Jabari Banks on playing Will in Fresh Prince Reboot, Acting, Music & More EP 71 | The Crew Has It
1h 3m 10s
Javari Banks shares his journey from a theater major in Maryland to landing the role of Will Smith in *Fresh Prince of Bel Air*, a pivotal moment shaped by timing, personal connection, and a unique audition strategy during the pandemic. He credits the show’s success with transforming his life, bringing sudden fame and intense social media attention—especially from engaged, direct fans like recently divorced mothers. His experience highlights the surreal and unpredictable nature of fame, including a surprise connection with Travis Scott, who not only recognized him at a party but later collaborated with him on a record, showcasing Travis’s creative genius and humility. Javari reflects on his transition from theater to television, noting that TV demands more internalized performance and emotional control. He emphasizes authenticity in relationships, favoring group hangouts over traditional dating to better understand people’s true personalities. He also shares his dream dinner guests—Obama, Jay-Z, and Denzel Washington—highlighting their charisma and conversational depth. Throughout, he underscores a belief in alignment and destiny, stating that every moment of his career, from the audition to the record deal, felt like a cosmic convergence. His story blends personal growth, cultural insight, and the joy of real-life connections, revealing a grounded, humorous, and deeply human perspective on success in the entertainment industry.
Have you guys met before a mic or no? Oh, you guys have? Yeah. So, um, we got we got a special guest in the studio today. Michael, um, who do we got? We got my boy, Javari banks. Yeah. You have the coolest name. I ain't gonna lie. Javari banks is so tough. Like, yeah. That's a swaggy ass name. The coolest last name this way. Yeah. No, it's a fake last name, bro. Honestly, it's a fake name, bro. Is it? Yeah, yeah. I made it up. I made it up. It's a chick name. Yeah. No, it's two people. No, they do. Yeah. Now they do. Yeah. I told them after the show was so, so my name is Patrick Campbell. Uh-huh. My dad's out there. It's still pretty sick too. Yeah, I remember. He's dope. You know, pretty chill name, but like I felt like it was like a desk job name. Right. You know what I mean? So then when I was in high school, first person my favorite show. Right. And then I was like, I'm gonna change my name to their last name. So it was like, wow. Wow. What a, dude, you're speaking my language, man. Yeah. That's crazy. And then 26, seven years later, you know what I'm saying? I got the job and then, you know, I got goosebumps, bro. That's nuts. Yeah. What the fuck? Yeah. Okay, all right. So it's not exactly. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I was going to ask where it came from. Yeah. So you changed your last name. Yeah. Exactly. Because of Bell of Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Exactly. And then you booked the show. And then I got the show. Okay. So let's. That's not so let's get in the soap. Yeah. Um, you were acting in, you were from Philly. No, so I was, I'm from Maryland. Okay. But I went to school in Philly. Right. And then I was acting as Philly for like four years. Yeah. Um, COVID happened. I mean, dropped out of college. Yeah. And then I was just like, yeah, I got to make it happen. I got to make it happen somehow. And then at that same time, I got a manager and an agent. And then they were just sending me different calls. Then my manager sent me the call for Bel Air. And, you know what I mean? So that Bel Air was the first thing you ever booked. Yeah. The first thing ever booked. This is a crazy story ever. What? So, um, when you dropped out of college, what were you majoring in before? Theater. Oh, in theater. So, you knew, you knew you wanted to be an actor. Yeah, exactly. And all my homies was like, yo, you know, you should go to New York, you know what I mean? Like, do Broadway and whatnot. That was, that was the goal. And then something to me was telling me like, yo, I need to go to LA and just like figure it out. Because I always want to do movies, you know what I mean? Right. Right. And then, uh, yeah, it's made it happen. Yeah. I was doing theater growing though. Okay. So the audition comes in for, for Fresh Prince. Are you like, yeah. What? Like, this is insane. I actually didn't even know it was like the new Bel Air. Like, I just knew the character's name was Will, you know what I mean? And then as I started reading it, I was like, oh, okay, this is like the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. This is perfect. Growing up, people are like, you got this energy a little bit. Whatever you look like or whatever. Right. And then, um, yeah. So I knew it was me low key. Like, I knew it was going to get it. And then, like, just some of those things. I knew. Yeah, I just knew it. I just felt it. And then the crazy part is what gave me the one up over a lot of people that our audition was. I was living in Philly, but it was COVID. I was a director while they were scouting. You know what I'm saying? And nobody else got to do that. So I had to one up. Wow. So, right plays right time. Of course, everything in the universe happened for me. Exactly. And I'm a firm believer in that. Aligning, aligning. Uh, so you booked the job. Yeah. Do you reach out to Will and go, like, is there a pre before you start filming? Yeah, and he told me I got the job. So called you. He called me and told me I got the job. Wow. That's crazy. So, and then two days later, flying from Philly to LA for the first time. And then a week later, we start filming. So I'm back in Philly again. Wow. Yeah. Oh, so you shot that whole show in Philly? No, no, no. We shot the beginning of it. Okay. So, we were in Philly for maybe like one week. Okay, filming. Yeah. And then you fully moved out here. You shot that show in the universe a lot, right? Exactly. You were so sick. Right down the street, bro. Damn, that's so sick. It's crazy. So, you start doing the show. And then obviously like season one was huge. Like, bro. So big. Yeah. I was actually talking to my dad about that. It was like, actually really big. Yeah. I remember marketing was wild. Yeah. Like, you know what I mean? Yeah, they put a lot of money into that. So how did this thing shift in your personal life of like, okay, like, got a little bread now? Got some bread, bro. The access is crazy. Yeah. You know, like, it was a lot of pressure, you know what I mean? Because obviously like you're like playing Will Smith, who's like one of the top actors ever. Yeah. So it's like, it was a lot of pressure like on that front. But you know what I mean? I just like buried my head and I was like, let me do this work like quickly. Right. But you know what I'm saying? I go home and I check my DMs. Like, it's flooded, bro. It's flooded. Like, it likes. And, you know, before this, like, I was real chill about social media. Yeah. Man. Oh, types of just crazy. Did Mike say "model"? I don't know. That's the first thing that came into my mind. Models. Models. Oh, different types of women. No, aunties. Like, you know what I'm saying? Maybe the thick aunties with you Sam. Woo! Recently divorced. Recently divorced moms. Yeah. That's one of my favorites. It's just like in the DMs. Recently divorced mothers. Yeah. Oh my god. They know what they want. Right. There's no games with them, you know what I mean? There's no games. Like, they know exactly what they want. They like, I'm flying out to LA in March. Be ready, type shit. Wow. Have you been active in the DMs a little bit? Yeah. Yeah. I know. Sometimes I get into it and I'm like, oh my god. Yeah. But, who's someone you shot your shot at in the DM? You know what? It's crazy. It's crazy. So, when I first got it. That was when Natasha Beddingfield went viral. You remember that one? You remember when Natasha Beddingfield went viral. Yeah. So, having like, she was like, super thick out of nowhere. Yeah. I guess if people were realizing it. So, that was the first woman that I shot my shot. That was Natasha Beddingfield. It worked out. Randomly. No, I didn't. She has a husband. She has a great pain. But that was like that, though. Shoot a shoot. Yeah, shoot a shoot. But that's it. Yeah. What's your wildest shot? I gotta add you. I feel like, like, I know you'd be shooting. Not so much anymore, but I don't know. I'm trying to think of like who, like, when I first, like, someone that was. I mean, probably. Like, what? Yeah, okay. Okay, okay. But I shot my shot on TMZ. Really? So it was so public. I didn't go in the DMs. It didn't work. It made a lot of noise. And then she went up to Michael at like, Fashion Week. He was like, "Your boy is talking about me on." And then we obviously, like, we talked about it. But, yeah, that was someone that I. It didn't work out. No dates, or is it? Who knows? You booked the job. You're getting a little fame. Do you, like, start being in the mix in Hollywood a little bit? Or are you kind of, like, out of it? Two Mixy, bro. Way to. Yeah, yeah. But it's not always your bad thing. It's not a bad thing. But, you know, when you, like, first get in, everyone's like, "Oh, you got it. Like, network, network." So I'm at every event. It feels like every event. Right. And I quickly get burnt out. Like, after my first two years, just like, super burnt out, bro. Like, in my third year, I kind of chilled out. I'm like, "Okay, cool. I don't need to be everywhere and everyone's face." But, like, definitely the first two years, like, in everybody's face, bro. What was the craziest event that you went to? And then, who was one of the people that you got star struck by? Okay. So this is. This is going sound crazy, but it's actually, like, super chill. Super chill Diddy Party, right? Yeah. Super chill Diddy. Yeah, I agree. Yeah, like, very chill regular party, right? But Travis Scott was there, and he came up to me. He was like, "Bro, I love this show." Do-do-do-do. I'm like, "Bro, what?" And then he used Travis' fan, so that was like, "What crazy moment for me?" I can't tell the story yet, because I'm waiting for a guest to come on and tell the story with me. Yeah. But I pulled up to his studio, like, two weeks ago, and got a record made. Wow. I'll tell the story. Oh, shit. When the guest comes on, the artist. But yeah, it was a wild story. That's crazy. Every time I see him, he's the nicest dude ever. Okay. I remember, Mike, "Who is this now?" Who's the rapper that I made the record? Well, we'll cut it, because when he comes on, I want him to do it. But it was, we'll blank the name. Oh, tough. Yeah, tough, tough. So I got the record made, but like, because I rode in both, and I was like, "My boy Gianni A&R, that'd be hard." Bro, in one week, I. This was all Super Bowl Week. 50 brought me out on stage for the Super Bowl. I went to Dirk's court hearing. This was like three weeks ago. And then I got that record made with Travis and the other artists. This was like four days. I'm like, "How am I not a rapper at this point?" I'm like, "Yeah, no, I'm an artist entry." That's crazy. That's wild. But yeah, Travis is, he dude, he's the fucking coolest guy ever. I remember. Mike, you had on, tell that story, Mike, of the shoes. Was this one we went? Were we the bowling alley? Yeah. Yeah, we was in the bowling alley. I had the Travis, the Travis ones on it. He pulled up on me. Matt, I was like, "Yo, so is this fire?" You know how Travis ate it? Like, turt the fucking energy. Yeah. Yeah. Going crazy. I was like, "Who was that?" Yeah, that's crazy. Yeah, Travis is that guy. Yo, tell him how crazy of a mad genius he is when he's in the studio on the computer engineering. He doesn't have an engineer. He's like a gamer. Bro, he's like a gamer. And then they play the record himself. He does everything himself. He's got the mic right here. He's like I actually did not believe how much of a genius he was until I saw it all happen. And then, so the artist played the record. Right. And he was like, "Oh, this reminds me of this drums from a song that I had nine years ago, but I never, at least he just went in the computer, blah, blah, blah, blah, pulled it up." And he's like, "See? The drums are the same." And I'm like, "That's the craziest thing I've ever seen." A record from nine years ago that he never even released. Yeah. He's like, "We should switch this snare to this." I'm like, "Yeah." This is crazy. But he's a giant power fan. And anytime I saw him at the Raisin Keynes party, I see him at F1. I see him everywhere. Yeah. And he'll move people out of the way. And be like, "Yo, Gianni, what's up?" That's crazy.
Super like humble of a dude. That's crazy. Yeah, I think I think he was gonna be on power at one point But I'm not sure what wound up happening. I think it was a scheduling issue. Bro trust like he was he was trying to be on Bel Air too Like I mean, we were super close to get him But I think there was like a stipulation with like he was trying to promote like a salsa or something like that And like universal wasn't happening to something like something like that Yes, sometimes it's weird. I remember like was gonna be on power But it was around on our show, but it was around the time that um all the that that's the cancellation stuff Yeah, so it like didn't get through to stars and that's why Dirk wound up being on so like okay It's so crazy like a lot of them behind the scenes up that people don't know like imagine if Travis was on Bel Air like what that? I'm crazy. Well, I was I was dope, but that goes and I'll say but I'll say like I'm at Tower Banks. I'm at Tower Banks. That was dope. That was dope. Yeah, she's cool Yeah, you know, I mean like she's her essence in you in person is just like otherworldly Caroline. Yeah, she got or a Caroline and Adrienne obviously are like Adrienne's on the Bel air Exactly. Did you you work with Caroline this season? Yeah, well, I never did in scenes with her But like you know, I'm saying obviously zero sense. Yeah, so Caroline for the power fans that returned she played Noma in power Yeah, and she was on the last season of Bel air. Who did she play? Bro like low-key like didn't even pay attention to the storyline to be honest I don't know her character's name like I know like she was like this like she was honestly like a similar character to Noma like I can't even know her name. I don't know. I don't know what her name was Yeah, so are you the type of actor? Clearly you kind of just answered it a little bit But like when the script comes out are you front to back reading like there's there some actors that are like Yeah, I know everyone else's lines are you just like I'm focusing on my stuff I mean I read the whole script obviously, but like I'm solely focused on me like you know I mean like I've really only saw her on set like two or three times But I'm like every every all of my scenes. I'm locked in down on obviously, but yeah I don't really know like the whole scope of everything that's going on cuz yeah, especially this season like we really branched out Like everyone has their own story line, so it's just like, you know, yeah, and it went in a total four seasons. Yeah, yeah, bro Yeah, I can't pay attention to everybody Yeah, I do it is hard like especially like with us to like it's it is a little hard to to stay locked in and everything like Yeah, I think there was a season where I didn't even watch because it just got like you read the episode and then you did do the episode and like now I got to watch episode right but then once we started recapping that episodes were like okay We kind of have to watch it and recap for the fans. Yeah, but it'd be like that sometimes people like I'm trying to think of the actor that just talked about how they've Matthew McConaughey was like I only ever seen interstellar one time. That's crazy. And it's like I've seen them Like, yeah, and you're the that's like one of the greatest movies ever right and he's like I've only ever seen one time And people are like I don't believe you know, it's like no like yeah, sometimes it's just it'd be too much. It's crazy, bro One time though one time. Yeah, one time's crazy. Come on. Yeah, who's a dream director that you want to work with dream director? I mean, I definitely say Ryan Cougar. Yeah, off top Ryan Cougar for sure like you know, that's a that's a He's powerhouse. Yeah powerhouse Jordan pill. Mm-hmm Jordan pill Shit, you know, I mean Steve is Poverg. Yeah, yeah, I'm saying all the big names Trying to figure out like like the you know up and coming ones. Um It's like you don't safty safty brothers. Did you see Marty supreme? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I was dope. Yeah, super fire Mike You saw it. Did you do you see Marty supreme now? I still gotta watch it. I still gotta watch this is fine But have you have you seen good time and uncut gems? I see an uncut gems. Yeah, uncut gems Yeah, yeah, super dope. Yeah, it's it's it's it's very it's the same as essence of that kind of Exactly a fast pace New York. Yeah, I love that though. I don't need to yeah, like just like running gun almost type of guerrilla style Yeah, just get it when you get it. You know what I mean as dope Mike? Who's your director? Did I ever ask you who your dream director was that we have to have talked about it by this point, but My dream I'm alive like I don't really know, bro. I Would say I would say Jordan Peel though. Yeah, I was definitely wanting to have you just so fucking like versatile. Yeah, like It's actually insane. He came from like sketch comedy, bro. It's crazy when you look back like yeah, like can't pill But like what that's him like it's crazy, but it's people are so people are so like, you know They have so much and I feel like a lot of times the industry puts you in a box of like You're the sketch comedy guy and then I you have to you have to be the person to get yourself out Of that you shit out of that. Yeah, yeah, immediately. Have you have you felt like they put you in a box a little bit for Bel Air You feel I gotta do some more work to see, you know, I'm saying it's still very early on, but like in my mind There's no box, you know what I mean, but so I have to really see like okay, like yeah, this is how they're pitching me You know me in those rooms, um, but I don't think so. I don't think so to be honest like I just feel like obviously with the the skeleton of Will Smith's career And me playing him like it's like it's not it's like you're easy to like Get out of that mold because they're like they kind of expect like okay, what's next like was the action? Where's the act you know, I mean like where's that type of vibe? So, um, yeah, I don't I don't think so I don't think so to be honest Is is there a dream role that you want to do next? Um, no, man. I just want to do something exciting, bro Like like there was this there's a movie that just came out. You should watch it. It's called a weathering heights. Oh, I ever it's about the Robbie Jacob Lorde movie. Yeah, so gas, bro. What's it about? It's I mean it's a romance. It's a romance. Um, based off of a novel, obviously, but It's just like a it's almost like a Romeo and Juliet style. Yeah, but it's real real freaky So you so you want to do something like that? Yeah, like something like that would be cool like obviously like You know, I mean like me playing against another black actress or something like that. I'll be dope. You know me Yeah, the ladies in your pocket, too. Yeah, that's a different bag bro. Like that's a hole Yeah, obviously I cried that I movie bro twice really well. I went to the movies twice, bro I went with a girl and she was crying. I didn't feel like I could cry right right? Because she was crying so much. So I'm like, I can't I can't I can't really let it out. So I'm like, you know, I'm gonna come back by myself And I had a black hair. That's how fire it was fire, bro. Fire like it made me feel something for real like yeah, it's one of those I'm not even a big romance type movie. I was just about to say like I don't I don't think I've ever seen myself watching the romance movies Bro me either. Yeah, but it was just what you did then that means that shit was shit. Yeah, it's it's pressure, bro It's pressure. What is it called? What is it called again? Weathering we're the ring heights. We're the ring heights Yeah, it's with Margot Robbie the girl from Wolf of Wall Street, Mike I know he loves her too. Pressy, pressy, pressy. Wait, wait, so so this is actually funny. So you're you're a movie date night kind of guy like not like that But you know it's crazy. So I was I was living in the Philippines Philippines for two months. Were you shooting some of you? No, I was just living out there, bro. Tell me about this one fucking random brand and bro. I'm like that, though Like I came up though. Yeah, I came out there for a way to influence that so I went out there for a wedding and then like I was just like I'm gonna stay out here just cuz like obviously money stretches different out there different culture you get to kind of get away from all the noise of You know, I'm saying the industry and whatnot. So it was good to just like step away for a little bit experience of different culture And you know Filipino people are mad nice bro. There's probably amazing fire bro. Food is fire woman or fire So you know, I'm saying I made my rounds away and then yeah met this girl took a route. And that's how we got her you met her in Philippines. I met her in the Philippines and she lives in LA now No, she lives in the Philippines. Oh, yeah, she's still up. Oh, she went to see the movie in the Philippines Yeah, exactly Yeah, player lamb now living bro living like you are out there dolo dolo bro I love that don't know it's crazy cuz bro. Okay, so I was never that, you know what I mean? So getting to experience that bro. I'm like bro. I haven't said a word today Like I haven't even talked to anyone like it's 9 p.m. I haven't said a word You know what I mean like and just like experiencing that cuz I'm such like a you were my homies that like what a guy's that you know I mean so so doing that like it was a good like departure from yeah My natural state that's a different sense of peace It's like when you wake up and you don't got to communicate you got to interact with nothing for like a good mini It's like you just enjoy your own piece your own presence bro That shit is definitely like it's a good recenter for the foot of for the soul exactly you walk outside bro It's like where am I bro like I'm just like what am I doing like you know it's the best feeling ever though It feels like liberating like every time I get to the airport and I get to the LAX international terminal I'm like there's like this nervous adrenaline that I get yeah And that's like the feeling that I'm that I like crave and then I'll go to Mike knows I've we talked about this in Michael Ely episode I'll go for like a month and I'll just go to different and now I link up with people in different places because I hate truly Haping alone. Yeah, but
There's something about like having to land and rent a car and do everything in all these like random places Where like obviously go to London in Paris like you got to get security you're taking care of but like I'm in the middle of Spain I'm in the middle of Ireland like Ireland. Yeah It's one of my favorite spots and I'll just be out there, you know Italian countryside No one knows who you are and you just got to figure it out now exactly you're flying the model Yeah, I'm saying like you got to go out there and experience that solo travel because I feel like that's what really like Shapes you as a person. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, so what was some of the craziest things that you experienced out there? Bro, I went to a music video shoot, right? Randomly cuz I was like you are I'll show you the video bro, so I go to this music video shoot and obviously they have like a huge hip-hop culture Like they're very like westernized out there. Oh, okay, you know, I'm saying like all their media. They intake is is through us So I go to this music video shoot, bro, and like bro Philip, you know, people put it on bro like they're swaggy like they got braids Dress like how to this all of that like it felt like I was in like some random music video shooting some you know in the state here But I did you find it so one of my homes was there and was like you'll pull up here like one of the artists like the top artists out there They were like doing a music video shoot just all Filipino girls just walking around and shit. This is crazy, bro Yeah, it's crazy. It's crazy. What's your is Filipino your favorite type of woman? No, not even. Yeah, not even do you have a type? Not bro, anyone could get it. Yeah, yeah Anyone could get a rope, but like yeah, but like you definitely have a time. Come on. What's your type? No, I don't know I just think I have a I think I have a higher Successory with certain type, okay, okay, what's that? I don't discriminate what's that type? I don't say that you discriminate, but I'd say like like you gravitate more Towards like the women that you're around it's so funny because every time like I told you say my type is I'm Tell you every time every time like girls will pull up because every time me and Mike are out anywhere There'll be a group of four or five girls that Mike invites out and pulls up. Yeah, and I always know which one is his Obviously because it's always the baddest. Yeah, but it's like it's like a dark skin. Okay, like thin petite, but petite, but Beautiful woman every time and I know that's Mike's girl. Okay. I'm saying that that's that's what you only stick to yeah, but Every time I'm like that so I'm like the type though, bro That's a good time. I'm not saying it's not but like that's I am. Yeah, that's undeniable. Yeah At least it wasn't like a BBL bandage is like one of those like trust me like the two If you had to yeah, what would what would it if like you had to pick one for the rest of your life, what would it be? She bro, I don't even know bro like build your own woman type. Yeah, yeah, bro I mean like obviously like our glass like some some petite like you know what? I like the petite because you know, I'm saying when they become a mother they get a little thick Something that's not too thick when you first meet them like you know, I'm saying so take care of themselves You know what I mean like that type of vibe like skinny still got something in the back, you know what I mean? So it's like something like that. Yeah, I feel like I I would gravitate more towards Middle Eastern women. I love like I love like a Armenian Persian Lebanese type Lebanese like dark feature like Kim Kim case. Yeah, she's Armenian. Yeah, I mean yeah Yeah, like that type of woman is like I think it but that's not my type That's like sometimes what I gravitate. You feel like that's the end game. That's end game. I don't know I I need big personality Okay, because I have such a large personality that like if I'm with someone with with zero personality It just doesn't work. Yeah, there's a lot of girls. I had with no personality, bro X is so much Like that's why you hated your ex so much because like she would be the complete opposite use of time around like but this This don't work for my Think about my ex is that she would have like a she had a great personality, which is and she also was I think Lebanese, but um, you think I I think she was Lebanese, but how long are you in her like what eight months Mike nine months? The longest relationship ever around almost close to a year close to a year, but it also was a COVID relationship So like I'm not a relationship guy. Okay, so I think it probably went on six months longer because it was COVID because me Mike's we're getting so much trouble. We're like we just got to stay in the house. Right, right So but with her like she had a big personality and she made me laugh Which is like what locked me in yeah, but she would be so fun around other people and then the second we'd get home She'd be like really I thought it was the opposite, but I need a big person out here. You kind of I mean I'm shit, bro I mean as long as they're like cool, you know, like you know, I'm saying my girl got to know how to dress bro Like she got a she has to know how to put it on bro like that's my main thing you know, I'm saying like last last two girlfriends I just didn't know how to put it on bro. Like it's like I don't feel like dressing you today like Yeah, I had to dress someone but what would they what would they wear? Man, she's a bullshit, bro Just complete bullshit. What are you wearing right now? Yes, I'm dressed. Hey, why are you no? Sun dress is fine? Like that's fine I can't do a sundress. You don't like sundresses. No, I'm a sundress. Yeah, it depends where we're going. Sundress is smooth Yeah, but it's like they would wear like some some shit like just like what shoot like some weirda has like No, like some like some Jordan like v fusion Jordan Team Jordan Your face is so you could be the best woman in the planet. You wear a team Jordan Sounds crazy, but like it shows a lot about your decision me exactly on some team Georgia. Yeah, it's a tasting, bro It's a tasting that I was I was seeing a little Disney girl for a little bit. Okay, my god. This girl did not know how to dress. Hey, hey there, bro It was horrible and then I bought her I bought her Jordans. Yeah, and then they were fire Like, you know, it was I think it was the Nike the yellow. I mean the green Jordan for espis you know They did that that for espi classic green yellow. Yeah, okay. Yeah, um She we stopped talking. Yeah, she had a music video come out and she wore them at and I was like this month I put you on game. I put you on this creature Atlas creatures Yeah, I must say all my soldiers be fly say I don't think I ever do it good That doesn't know how to judge. Yeah, yeah, bro. It'll shock you don't bro because like they'll they'll pull some shit out in the first couple dates Like okay, yeah, cuz they're bringing up the sauce. Yeah, we got the hits and then go to the clouds Are you like are you kidding me? Yeah, you're like you're like what is this? What is this? Yeah, what what's actually? It's a good quality suit and Jordans is crazy come on really What's the what's the worst date you've ever had worst date? Damn, bro. You know, it's crazy. It was it was really good date. It was a really good date, right? But then I met another girl on the date and she was just vicious. She was vicious like she was she didn't care She didn't care like like shawty went to the bathroom and she came to me It was like you'll take my number down like you know I mean and I sent that girl home and then like a couple days later like me and I girl, but it's great Yeah, it was crazy. That was probably the wildest shit. I've ever seen it sometimes that good date Yeah, it's a good day. It's a good day. It's a good day. It's a win-win It wasn't good with the original, but it wasn't good with the original. I mean she didn't even know she didn't even know, bro She didn't even know and the other girl. She was like a mom. She was like a mother like thick You know, I mean like just crazy just crazy. You like you like some dick. She was by herself. She was by her She's a dangerous dangerous woman. Where were you? I was at a restaurant. She was sitting at the bar by herself You know, I mean yeah, she was sharkin. Yeah, sharkin is actually exactly one of those. Yeah, Mike What's the worst date you ever had? I feel like you don't really do dates though, do you? No, I only remember the last time I've been on a date, bro. Like my thing is look look. I'll keep it like I Like doing something like group settings, but because like when you do a day it kind of like I Don't know, but like I'm just not in that stage right now I'm not really trying to be on a date with nobody Because then they start thinking it's like oh he liked me like me and it isn't that and they think it's like like you know I don't know like I think it's I think it's gonna take the right right Woman for me to actually like maybe want to fuck with dates. I don't know, bro But I just can't like I'd rather be like yo, you're in your friends. You know, I'm saying I have a lit-ass day I'm gonna call like two of my homies. We're gonna have a great day You feel me like we go have fun, you know, and then like maybe you know after maybe two or three of those if we On the right accord then I yeah now I don't want nobody in our business now we on our own little thing You know how we you know, but off the rip I'm not like yo, let's go get dinner like I can't really do that brother Now I'm gonna get the wrong impression. Yeah, I might adopt that. I might adopt that. That's actually Good. It's a good. It's a good little trade. You know cuz cuz it keeps stuff like like I would say like It keeps him more like free, bro It keeps him more like free spirit like you get to see what the girl is actually like cuz she's with her friends So she's feeling a little more comfortable, you know, I'm saying like you really see a personality You're a little more comfortable. You would check guys like it's you know. Yeah, I think that's the method right there So the back up a little bit so what what like made you want to be an actor like I'm curious Cuz obviously like you majored in theater like you made a big step to do that. Yeah, I mean, you know, I mean I just like telling stories, bro like you know, I've always wanted to be an actor You know, I'm saying just in the entertainment industry in general like you know I mean, so I just like telling stories and shit like I just think it's fun. You're you're an interesting dude because I A lot of times I'll meet someone like me and Michael be out and be like Yo, this person's like someone that we look up to where this person's like a great actor Yeah, and they're so boring and I'm like How like I'm not saying you have to be on it all times, but I'm like how is this person an entertainer right because I see my I don't see myself as an actor. I see myself as an entertainer. I do a lot of stuff. It's what I love to do I love commanding a room and making people laugh right now Mike like Mike's a little like more looks
but he's very creative. He makes beats and does this like, Mike's an entertainer. - Right, right. - You were very similar to that where I see you and I'm like, you light up a room, you're funny, you can carry a conversation. So do you see like, you growing up, did people tell you that? - Yeah, yeah, yeah, like always, growing up like, just making people laugh. Like, I was always class clown. - Of course. - Like always class clown. - You're a class clown, class clown shit. So, I was always class clown and I just knew I had a gift for it just 'cause I knew I could like, make people feel something. Even though it's like, make them feel sad or like, make them feel whatever. Like, I'm saying like, people feel what I'm feeling. And I could tell that I can make people do that. So it's like, I just feel like that's a gift that not a lot of people have. Like, I could suck the energy out of a room. Like, immediately, like, if I'm like, you know what's wrong with him? And shit just gets, you know what I mean? - Right, dark. - You know what I'm saying? I just feel like that's a gift. - I'm like, a cam woman at post. - Paul, I said, look, he always got a cam woman right here. - Honestly, I was not, but I got to get the idea off first. - I'm an entertainer that was to make that room laugh. - No, but you know what I'm saying? Like, I just feel like that's always been a gift of mine. - Was there an early movie that you saw that was like, I want to do this? Or a TV show? - Shit, bro. Like, not even really like, I mean, every movie that I watch, I'm like, I get mad, 'cause I'm like, bro, I can do that. Like, I know I can do it. Like, I know I can do this shit. So that shit just motivates me, like, really every movie I watch. But I probably say the earliest one was maybe like, "Pursuit of Happiness." - Oh. - Something like, oh, I might just have that on my soul. I was literally just about to say that. 'Cause I was one of the first movies I ever seen in the movie theater. - Okay. - Like, damn, like, this is tough. Like, will, his son, this, your ass insane, bro. I literally was about to say, like, your pursuit of happiness was kind of one of the first things I saw. I'm like, this could be, like, some shit. - Yeah, this is what I could do, bro. 'Cause it's also like a come-up movie too. So I'm just standing in that and like, being like, this is what I want. Like, hustling, you know what I mean? Like, I had that drive of me from a young age, you know what I mean? - Yeah, I just, I love seeing performances, but a lot of times even now, I'm the same way as you was, like, I'll watch that, like, days ago, I'll watch them, and be like, I could have done this way back. - I could have done this way. - I should have done this way. - Way better. - What's up, you see on TV now? You're like, this is who their cast is over this? - Right, yeah. - I'm like, man, what? - Yeah. - Is there anything that you've auditioned for that you didn't get? You're like, damn it. This was like a thing that I really wanted. - Nah, not even really, bro. You know what's crazy? Like, there's a lot of shit that, oh, you auditioned for it, that I'm glad I didn't get. Like, that's more like, I'm trying to think of something and I'm like, oh, I wish I got that. Nothing recently, nothing recently that I've seen. I think like, I auditioned for like, all the American, again, I'm glad I didn't get that. 'Cause I had to weed out for Bellaire and you know what I mean? Certain shit like that. Like, there was like a show called Midnight Club, like that was on Netflix. So you say, I'm like, glad I didn't get that. Like, obviously, I just feel like, culturally, Bellaire, like the, what it did for my career was way further than any of those shows. - I feel the same exact way. I feel the same exact way. Like, some of the teen drama stuff, like, you know, the Riverdale's and stuff like that. Like, they did great for those guys, but like, power was always, it feels like me. - Yeah, yeah, it's you, like, always meant to be in this. - Exactly. - And that's why I feel like the universe doesn't make mistakes. - It's at all, at all, man. - At all, bro. - You made it into theater, right? - Yeah, theater, like, yeah. - So coming from that and going to TV, like, how different was that? Like, obviously, it's a big difference. - Yeah, it's a great role. - It was the transition, like. - Yeah, bro, it was, I mean, like, you know, I watched a lot of videos and like, I really didn't get like any like, TV training, obviously, like, but, you know, YouTube videos and, obviously, like, taking the emotion of theater, obviously, like, you're performing for the person in the back row. - Right. - You know what I'm saying, but in TV, like, it's just like a little more internal, obviously. So it's like, kind of taking that energy of what it means to, like, perform for someone in the back row in theater, but, like, bottling that up and, like, you know what I'm saying? Like, keeping it contained. I think I understood that immediately. I understood that notion immediately. So, it wasn't like a crazy transition from theater to TV, just because I understood, like, okay, this is what it needs to be. Like, I can't-- You, like, there are moments in TV, obviously, where you can be big and whatever, like, but it's, like, it's more dialed in. And I understood that. So it wasn't like a super huge transition for me. But, it didn't make it easier? - Yeah, it made it easier. It made it easier to kind of, to kind of, at least just tap into those emotions. Like, I did a lot of, like, non-conventional theater too. Like, it was like a real, like, a lot of new works. Like, it was really, like, musty. Like, musty building, like, here we are, like, getting it out the mud. - Getting out the mud. This is a play that no one's ever heard of. - But that's what makes you a great actor. - Yeah, you know what I mean? I appreciate that, man. So, but yeah, that's what I started at, you know what I mean? So, just, like, understanding that. And it was interesting, bro, 'cause, you know, I come from, like, a really, like, the school that I was at, it was very, like, progressive. Very, very progressive, very, like, LGBTQ center. And so, like, being there, and obviously, like, getting that culture and then, like, coming here and understanding this culture. And, like, I'm like, okay, cool, like, it just, it just feels interesting, like, the transition, you know what I mean? 'Cause, like, a lot of my homies that, like, I'm at the school with, you know, you know, shout out to them, they're like, you know, I'm gonna do, like, theater and filly, like, you know what I'm saying? Like, that was, like, that felt like the end goal for them, but I always knew them. - I'm just gonna do this, like, L.A. shit, you know what I'm saying? Such a different coach on here, though, bro. Such a different coach. Such, like, so many different artists, like, so many different types on here. - You like it better out in L.A., right? - Yeah, hell yeah, hell yeah, hell yeah, hell yeah, hell yeah. Just gonna take a look at you, Michael, that's all I'm gonna do. You know, but I wasn't in New York. I feel like there's a lot of different artists in New York too, but, like, filly's interesting, like, the filly art community, as far as, like, theater is very interesting. - Yeah, I think, I think L.A. is just so, like, every night, there's something different with the, with the different event going on, or this is that, that's why I love it. And I'm such a connector of people. - Right. - Like, if I'm out and I see you, and I see, like, Jackie Long, I'm like, yo, do you want to hear me, Jackie? - Like, that's the kind of guy I am, 'cause I love my friends being friends with other, with my friends, who we all hang out. - Right. - And I know this guy would mesh well with this guy, and L.A. is the epitome of that. - Yeah, yeah. - I feel like New York is, like, get your boys, and we going out tonight, and it's my boys. - Right, yeah. - You don't really run into a lot of people, like, that maybe out with the club, we'll see, like, Boogie, or we'll see, like, guys like this. - Right. - But, like, I feel like L.A. is more of, like, you're going with party, and it's a melting pot. - Exactly. - Like, like, even a couple, we went to some random house party, like, everyone was there. - There's L.A. - It's crazy. - It's crazy. - You know what's crazy, bro? Like, I've always, like, out here, I've, like, longed for, like, a sense of, like, "Yo, where's that?" - Where the? - Where the actor guys that I actually, like, fuck with, you know what I'm saying? I'm like, "Yo, like, we're not on time." - We're not on time. - I never met him, like, I'll only meet people at, like, you know, at events. - Right. And so, sometimes when you meet people at events, it's like, "Ooh, shake the hand. Cool, we're all both in the suit." - All right, bro, like, yeah, text me, bro, boom, boom, boom, get up, and then it's never happens. - I had this conversation with someone, like, three weeks ago, you're not outside. - Yeah. - Like, like, every time I go outside, I only, I mean, maybe it's the places that I go, but even, like, I'll go to, like, a lot of, like, white shit. - Yeah. - And I'm like, "I never, you never see, like, I'll see Leo. I see Leo in order to cast Leo out more than anybody." - Really? - Like, not saying he's, like, outside, outside, but, like, I don't see other actors. - Just ever. - Right, yeah, yeah. - I don't know why that is. - Like, where are they? - I don't know. - But I'll see, like, I've seen Leo at three parties in the past, like, three, four weeks. - Okay. - So he's the only other actor that I ever see. - I'll be kicking it. - Yeah, he's outside. - Yeah, that's fun. - Yeah, I'll see him outside too once, yeah. - Right, but I only ever see rappers, or I only ever see, like, like, influencers, or my reality friends, or, like-- - Yeah, that's-- - But if you rarely see, like, like, you never see, like, a Jill and Hallout, like, I'll see a lot of people, like, at UFC fights, because I go to watch UFC fights. - Okay. - And I should, like, Jared Leto and Miles Teller, they were sitting next to me, like, a couple weeks ago, but, like, it's rare you see actors out. - That's so funny that he was-- - Yeah, because it's crazy, man, because I feel like we're in, like, the same class of actors, as far as, like, as far as, like, years go, like, you know what I'm saying? Like, we're similar ages, and so it's, like, you know, I've always longed for that community, you know what I'm saying? All about the same, bro. When y'all saw it, bro, hit me up. - I was just going to say, yeah, I was like, we got to ring-- we got to ring your bar, yeah, I got to-- I got to-- I got to move. - I got to move to LA, man. - I just-- we're getting there, we're getting every episode, we're getting closer. I'm going to beat it next month, so we definitely-- we could definitely go and get up. - Say that, bro. - Yeah, yeah. - But we're also not, like, me and Mike don't go, like, crazy, like, we're not going out, like, crazy, and, like, I love-- like, I love a big dinner. - Yeah. - Everyone-- like, all my boys pull up. We're all laughing, having fun, having a couple bunch over there, but, like, that-- and then, like, we go to, like, a bird's tree, we go to, like, a living room, like, kick it, like, with your friends, like, we're not, like, black out every night, like, a lot of people-- - I know, are, like, that, but that's how you go through a slippery slope of LA. - Oh, yeah. - For sure. - People go to-- - Yeah, I'm talking about-- - Pass out, man. - For sure. - All right, well-- - Oh, sure. - Black out. - That's a little cinema. - Yo, wait, wait, what's Birch, I've never been to Birch, I've never been to Birch. - Birch, Birch treats-- it's a private club, and it's right next to Kees. Have you been to Kees? - Never been to Kees. - Never been to Kees, never been to-- - Oh, yeah, I've been-- I've been to Kees once. It was, like, something else before, right? - Okay, yeah, yeah. - It was one of Kees once. - And now it's Kees. I like Kees, I think he's just fire. But it's, like, a private club, and, like, no phones, no anything. And I love Birch. It's always a vibe. Every time I'm in there, like, everyone crazy's in there. - Gotcha, okay, okay, okay. - And then it's-- - And it's more of, like, a fun, kick-it vibe of, like, you know, everyone's in there, but-- - And living rooms kind of, like, more of, like, a little bit more of a lounge club. - I heard about living room. I've heard about living room. I've been there. I haven't been there either, but yeah. - Yeah. - It's a vibe, but, yeah, that's-- - Don't know that when I get there next month, don't even trip. - Like that. - I'm forcing you to stay here, Michael. I need you out here. - Say the word. I ain't mad at you. I'll stay. - Yeah, shit, man. - Um, this is a question that I-- someone asked me the other day, and I'm like,
I don't wanna ask this on the podcast. Who's your like three people you're having dinner with if you could choose anybody on earth? Oh, you know this off that. - Yeah, oh no, go ahead, go ahead, we're gonna say. - I was gonna say I'm gonna give you some time if we wanna open it up to like Mike, who would yours be? But who's three people? - No, I knew for sure Obama at first, Obama at first for sure. He's gotta be the first guest of Obama. - Why? - Just solely for just energy and game. I just feel like he's definitely somebody like, cameras inside, whatever you can just talk to. I feel like he's mad chill, like low key, like really chill. I feel like he can hold a conversation. - Yeah. And there's no awkward pauses instead. I just feel like he's one of those guys. So I'll say Obama. Shit, I gotta say Jay-Z. - Yeah, I'm saying like. - Are you doing the 50 grand or? - No, no, I'm doing the 500. - I'm doing the 500 grand. - Oh, I'm doing the 500 grand, man. - Yeah, I'm doing the 500 grand, man. - Yeah, I'm doing the 500 grand. - How much money it is? I'm going to get that money before I go sit down with Jay-Z. - I'm doing the 500 grand, I'm doing the 500 grand. - Jay's definitely the second and I probably say like shoot, bro. Like, I don't know, the third, the third, man. Maybe like a Denzel. - Cool. - Yeah, I know him saying, yeah, yeah, like a Denzel. That's a crazy three though. - Yeah, that is a crazy three. - Obama, Jay, and Denzel. - That's crazy. - That's game, bro. - Yeah, it's pretty, it's going to be, yeah. - Yeah, yeah. - Yeah, it's more security than us. - I'm going to be all the way in the back of the restaurant. - Exactly. - This one's going to be closed down. - That's a crazy three, yeah. - Mike, who's your three? Have you said this before? - No, this is a good question. I would have to say Denzel, I got to go Leo, so I could talk to him about Wolf, Wolf, Wolf, and me. - Mike, we're going to be out next month. I'll get that to happen, brother. I guarantee you we'll run into him somewhere. - I'll probably just ask him one or two questions I said, 'cause I know you don't want to talk about that shit, but I've got to ask him about Wolf Wars. That's one of my favorite movies, bro. - That's how I talk to him, bro. - That movie's going to, bro. - Third, oh my God, that's actually, like, that's tough. I got to, no, I don't know, bro. - Yeah, the third spot is, yeah. - I would say it changes a lot. So you don't have to lock this in forever. - You get this very moment, who do you feel it is? Me, I'm going, I'm going, I'm going, Theo Vaughn, and he's like one of my closest homies in the world. - Okay, yeah. - Every time I'm with him, I'm in tears dying. Do you know who he is? - Yeah, of course, yeah, yeah, yeah. - I'm in tears, so I'm bringing him to Denzel regardless. I'm bringing Lilly Rose Depp, Johnny Depp's daughter. That's my fine shit of the month. And I think, I want to date her. I'm going to date her. I'm going to put that up in the parliament later. It's so funny. - It's time I go out of pocket. Every time I go out of pocket, producer Brennan, like he's like excited that I'm like out of pocket. This is a clip. - Oh my God. I can't help myself, I just want to be funny. But no, I want to date her. - Nice. - And I think, I don't know, the third one right now at this very moment. Fucking, I'm going, Leo. - Leo. - I see him out all the time, but we got questions. We got to ask him. You know what, it was crazy? - What? - I got to add a fourth, I'm sorry. - Yeah. (laughing) - I got to add, Chris Lawton. (laughing) I got to add him, bro. - Shut up, Chris Lawton, bro. - I remember you really late. - That's really late. He looked at the table behind us with two pretty women. And he said, "You might." I'm setting up some shots, man. I'm setting up some shots. I'm like, you know, I like that about you. You know, just like a teen, just with it. You can put your setting up some shots. Yeah, I like that. You need somebody like that at the table. - Yeah. - You need a five-year-in-er. - For sure. - You feel me? - Yeah, yeah. - It's like between you and Chris. Like you two are like the two motherfuckers that are like break the ice low key, you know what I'm saying? - Right. - So yeah. - And I'm not an icebreaker between people that I don't know. And I think I want to get better at that. - Okay, okay. - Chris, we'll literally talk to anybody ever. - Yeah. - Like he'll like talk to, like me. - That's a super power, bro. - It's a super power. - And you know the motherfuckers for years. - Yeah. - Like no, I just met them. And I'm more of like, oh, I know that person. 'Cause I don't want to bring someone else's energy into our table. And then I don't like them. - I'm waiting. - And then I'm like, fuck, I fuck the dinner off. - Yeah, exactly. - Yeah, I'm that way too. - Chris is like, I'll fuck the whole thing. I'll make this whole thing grow off the rails for, I'm like, fuck it. - Yeah. - But it's funny, like, even last episode, we talked about with Isaac. Of course we're gonna talk about Chris. Every episode, he's like, what are you guys gonna say about me now? But that's just the guy that he is. Where did you meet him? - Outside, bro. - Yeah. - He's outside, he's an actor that's outside. - Yeah, he's outside for sure. I mean, we met through, maybe through Jordan. Jordan, no, Jones, I know they're good friends as well. So maybe like, he introduced me to Chris. That was early on though. So I met him a couple of years ago. - Who did Jordan play on the show? - Jazz. - And you kick it with him a lot outside? - Yeah, that's my, oh, yeah, brother. - He don't get a girl. - He got a girl on it. - No, no, no, bro, he's outside too. He's outside too. It's birthday this weekend. They're actually going to Arizona. - Oh, fire. - They just invited me, but I can't, you know what I'm saying? I gotta just end up LACP awards, which is gonna show us, but, but, um, yes, sir, but, um. - Like, you got that NAACP last year, huh? - He beat me out, bro. - Well, you guys were against that. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. - Were you both there at the awards? - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - All right, all right, all right. - At least that's actually where, like, it was like the first time we, like, talk, talk. Like, yo, shut up, yeah, yeah. - I, I have a question for both of you. Because this is always what I'm curious about. And I'm sad I don't have an NAACP. But, um, I'm sad about, um, I'm curious about, uh, because I watch the Oscars, you won. And, and the moment it's on you, they're, they're reading, they're reading the thing. - Yeah, yeah. - What's going through each of your minds as, and be honest, it can be, I fucking want this. It could be, I hope, but like, I'm curious. - And, and my mind, I'm just saying, like, you know, if they don't call my name, like, don't make a face, bro. - That's what I'm saying. - That's what I'm saying in my face, like, oh, okay, just save face right now. Like, when the camera's in your face, like, 'cause if another person wins, and they go, I'm sorry, bro. - Right. - Right. - Like, you know what I'm saying? - Right. - So, that's my first, like, I say face right quickly. Obviously, like, I'm a competitive person. So, you know what I'm saying? - Of course. - Of course. - I want to win, but, you know what I'm saying? That's my main thing. Just save face, bro. - Yeah. - Cool. - Like, that moment in my heart was just beating fast. Like, who didn't even have to pick like, I think it lit, like, oh my god, it was crazy, because, I've been nominated, I think once or twice before, no, I think it was once before that. But it was a long time ago. - Okay. - It was the year Caleb McLaughlin made me out. - Okay. - And I was like, and I wasn't really like, I was, I was just like, babe, I'm like, I bet. - Cool. - I'm saying, like, he was well deserved, bro. - Yeah. - That year, he was, he was on it, bro. So, I was like, 'cause shit, you know what I'm saying? But, that last year, I was like, yo, bro. - I knew this. - I wanted this. - I was being fast and sick. - No, it was crazy. - Yo, so, did you, did you prepare your speech, like, when you, when you went up there, like, like, did you have something to prepare? - Yeah. - He's like, nah, bro. I, I think a lot of freestyle, I freestyle when I went up there. - I was, I was so nervous, too. - Yeah. - That's the one thing I was really nervous about. I was like, damn, if I come up here, stuttering, take him, just, he's like, take my damn order. - Yeah. - But, I got up there, bro. And it was actually, like, cold as shit in there. So, like, I was shaking for two different reasons. - Yeah. - So, like, I was like, fuck it. Like, you know what, if I, if I stutter, it's 'cause it's cold. - Yeah. - 'Cause I was too nervous. - No, the charm was on, bro. - The charm was on. 'Cause when she said that, everybody started laughing. I'm like, nah, but he got it. You got it. - Yeah. - I mean, you got it. - I had to say something to, like, to, like, ease the, the anxiety. I'm like, I gotta make somebody, like, I gotta do something. I got to make somebody laugh, make somebody smile. So, I'm like, oh, it's cold as hell, yeah. I ain't got a lot of y'all. (laughing) - That was a dope as a night. I ain't got a dope as a night. - Yeah, that was a good night, man. - And the nominees was crazy. So, I'm like, bro. - Bro. - Who else were you guys talking about? - There's some confidence. - Who was it? Who was it that last year? Me, you, who else was it? - Me. - You. - I was like, forced. Where did Chris? I was like, what was it? - It was so crazy. - It was so crazy. - Yeah, I was like, I was just hot. - Yeah, yeah, I was just hot. - Who else? - It was somebody else. It was a lot. It was like, it was so much going on that night. Everything was a blur because I was just like, so like, it was crazy. But that was a good ass night. - Yeah. - So, what's like the next thing you want to do? Like, if blue sky, you could pick anything. I don't like this question for me because I'm like, I just love good shit. But I'm curious if you got something in mind that you want to do next. - Yeah, I just want to make a roll for yourself right now. Tell me like, okay. So, it would definitely be like, it would definitely be like a festival darling. - Right. - It's indie movie, something that I could really show off the acting chops. Like, my character is like bipolar or some shit. I'm just like, you know what I'm saying? I could show different sides of like, yo, I can switch to this and I can switch to that. Like, something like that will be fire. Still have a romantic side to it. There's like depth within the genre. It's not like just sticking to one genre. It's like, genre crossing over. Something like that. Something like that. Something real low key. Great director. - Yeah. - You know, directors are important, bro. - I agree, though. - Like, great director. Yeah. Something like that. - That's a true guy who came from theater because he's like, I want a fucking real indie. I'm like, Batman. Give me Batman. I want 100 mil. I want to be on 75,000 screens. It's so funny. I wanted to be on the top one. Come on, come on. I want some shit like that too, man. Like, just so off with the hell you could do. Like, I was just watching. I was just going through this Instagram page that like just shows like super dope performances. And it was, I forgot the name of the movie, but it was Toby McGuire. It was the, it was Toby. I know what you're talking about. It's the Toby McGuire movie with Jake Jones Hall. It was called "Brothers." Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Where he's like, that scene where he's flipping out his girl. - Yeah, I thought my brother was badly born in. - Yeah. - Well, yeah.
Yo bro, I was watching, I rewatched that scene about five times and I'm like, "You know what I've done?" That's what he's like, yo, yeah bro, and he starts like going like, and like hitting himself with a face hit. I'm like, "Yo dude, that was, yeah, I watched that probably like seven times back to back." I'm like, "Yo, this motherfucker was so loud." You know what's so funny? It was just like that. In my mind, I'm like watching it because he breaks everything in the kitchen. And I'm like, I wonder what this continuity was. Yeah, I'm like, "What was this clean up in continuity?" Like, I hate that about being an actor because I'm like, "Fuck." And you were like, "That's about all the other shit." It was actually hard to line up. And I'm a performer and you're like, "He broke a lot." He broke the cabinets off the wall. I'm like, "How the hell are you going to fix that?" That was in the white. He had a hell of a data date. Yeah, that's crazy. Yeah, I'm more as curious because like, you kind of have to talk to the director about that before it happens because like, if you rip the cabinets off the wall, like, "Hey, you're probably, that movie was probably not like a $70 million budget." It was probably like a smaller budget movie, they had big actors, but like, I'm trying to think I'm like, that was probably in someone's real house. Did they rip the cabinets off the wall and then have to re-put new cabinets off the next scene? Did they know? That was a day probably. I always think about that stuff. Yeah, that's crazy, bro. They probably spent like a couple hours on that scene. Did anything happen like that on Bel Air? I think the only thing that was like, nothing ripping the cabinets off the wall. Nothing like that. But when Marlon came on the show and for the first season, and he was playing my dad and whatnot, and we got into that fight, that was all just improv. We didn't talk to the director about that, everybody was shocked in that moment. Bro really put his hands on me. That was my first time like, "Okay, we're acting like, here we go." Like, I said, I come from that gritty like, "Okay, yeah, now we about to get into this actin' shit for real." It's not just over-the-shotish shit. Right, right. Bullshit, we laughing or whatever. We really getting into some real shit and that's what that felt like. Just some real improv. Everyone was thrown off. The cameraman almost fell. I think that was like the closest thing we got to. Some like that. Yeah, those are some of the best scenes. Yeah, bro. Yeah. That's why I remember I had that scene with Omarie where we in the hotel. And Tareek is like, "Yo, tell me why you had to do this and that." And then we was rehearsing. Yeah. And like you say, like he, bro, like he grabbed him and put me on the table. I'm like, "Oh shit. I'm like, "Oh shit. I'm like, "Oh shit. I'm like, "Oh shit. I'm like, "Oh shit. I got ya DC. Fuck what he's talking about. I remember my first time coming out there. I just turned 21. They had me come to Rose Bar. Rose Bar. It was active. It was active. Yeah, Rose Bar. Yeah, Rose Bar. I was just going there, and it was dead. It was dead. It was dead. It was dead. It depends on what day you had. No, I didn't go there with you. I was in Abu Dhabi in Dubai last year, and I was fucking, I went to the club, and I ended up, running into the owner of Rose Bar. We was fucking turning up. Yeah, Dubai. Yeah. Yeah, we gotta go now. I'm dude. I was supposed to go to Dubai. I think last week, or the week before, but you were in town, so I didn't go. I had a full brand trip. Dubai was going to fly me out there. Really? Do all that, and I said no, because Mike was coming out here with a podcast. I was like, "I can't see you. I can't see you. I can't stop you." Brother, we had great three nights anyways. I would rather have done that than being dolo in Dubai. Because sometimes when they reach out for the brand trips, they're like one ticket, and it's now, I'm like, "I'm not going in Dubai." Exactly. I got to go with my boy. For sure. All right, so you make music as well? I do. Yeah, yeah. What kind of music you make? R&B hip-hop style. Yeah, yeah. I can start making some more of them. Yeah. Take the ladies closer. Because I know Mike makes beats. I know you make beats too. Yeah, you guys get it. Hell yeah. Hell yeah. I got to get back on my show. I got to get my studio, my home studio, a bad build, but I haven't made a beat. Okay. Probably like a year and a half, bro. I'm slacking, so bad. I actually feel like a piece of shit. I feel like a lie. I feel like, what was you about to say? What do you make beats on? I use a F.O. studio. I feel like a studio. Okay, okay. I started off on reason when I was like 13 and then I don't know. I felt like pretty kind of limited with reason. I feel like I wasn't figuring out certain things that I really wanted to figure out in the fashion and I wanted to figure them out. So I was like, let me switch to F.O. I switched to F.O. I kind of started going crazy. The only thing I would say that I kind of regret is like, F.O. kind of really made me start tapping in like keys a lot. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And my melodies and shit. Like, when I was on reason, I really, I was using my keyboard. The MIDI, okay. Got you. Yeah, so I feel like that's, I let that shit slip away. So that's another thing I want to get back on, like back on, like just back on the keys and like fucking around with the keys rather than tapping in my melodies and stuff. For sure. For sure. I got to get back on my music shit, man. And then when I come to LA, I bring my latch. We could cook up. Let's cook some shit. You make beats too. You make beats yourself. Yeah, you make beats for myself too. Yeah, yeah. I use logic. Logic a lot. Yeah, logic. Logic is tough too. I like using logic. I never got the full swing of it, but like I would collab with like some of my producer homies that would be using logic. I'm like, okay, I see why they could use logic. Yeah, like it's actually super easy, bro. Like, everything is just like built out. You can see what everything's on. Like super. You know another DAW. Yeah. I think that's what it's called. Yeah. Studio one, bro. Studio one. Yeah. I'm not up on that. Okay. It's fire. This producer I used to be working with. His name was Eleno. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. I got one more question for you. Before you get out of here, if you could, this may be thinking that if you could make a song with pick a producer and two features on it. Who would it be? Shit. It would probably be. Shit. Hmm. I want this answer from you two, Mike. So thank you. Producer, a potty for real. Yeah, that's fine. For real, I'm a producer. I'll probably get like, shit, like, like, who? Like, maybe like Friday for the intro. Like, Friday, like, for real is Friday and then like, maybe like, Tyler to create it. Like, just being on some different shit. Yeah. That's fine. Mike, what about you? Mike, you're making the beat. You're producing it. So you have. I'm producing it. But I need a co-producer with me. Okay. I'm gonna have to go with Don Cannon, bro. I gotta go down. Fire. Don Cannon is so tough, bro. Like, he, uh, he producer.
- Looks like a lot of like Lil Uzi like early stuff. - Yup. - Lil Uzi versus the world and all of that. - Yeah. - He produced some for Cardin and stuff like that too. But I'll have to go Don Cannon and then the two artists on it will have to be. - Ooh, that's a good question. Again, I always tell people, what you feel in the moment and you're not locked into this forever. It could be different next week. - I say Don Cannon. I have to go to my boy Smokey Marjella. - Yes. - Smokey. - I have to go my boy Smokey Marjella for Smoke and I'll have to. I ain't a lot out there with Travis on there. That's funny 'cause the Rocky and the Travis thing is like, yeah, but I ain't a lot. Smokey and Travis on the same song. - That's crazy, that's it. We'll probably sound the same in a lot. - It's a crazy music. - Give me that, yeah. We'll put that out there. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. Smokey, featuring Travis produced by me and Don Cannon will probably go fucking crazy. - Crazy. - Yeah, I love it. I love it. - I need everybody out there to listen to the no-time instrumental by Playboy Cardi and tell me that Don Cannon is not one of the coldest motherfuckers out there, bro. - That'd be fun. - It's fine. - I never heard someone's gonna play it. - Bro, once we cut, just play it on your phone. I play it on your phone, bro, like bro, yo. Matter of fact, you don't even play it on your phone. Drive through the canyons later tonight and throw that phone away. - Throw that phone away. - All right, I'm picking up Lily Rose Dapp and I'm driving through the canyons this time. - Yo. - It's tough. - This is an ad, bro. - I'm telling you. - Mike, when you come out next week or the week after, we're all linking up. We'll grab dinner. We'll do something like that. Bro, yeah, thank you so much for taking the time. - Yeah, bro. - Thank you for coming on. - Pleasure, bro. - Do you have anything you want to promote? Music, stuff coming out? Anything you want? - Man, go get my project ultra, man. It came out last September, man. - Hell yeah. Go listen to that. - Go watch, go watch, Bel Air. Watch the full show. It's up. It's on P-Cock, right? - Yes, sir. - P-Cock. - Full show is on there. Go watch it. - I'm sorry, thanks, Benji, Benji, Benji, Benji, all four seasons. At Jabari Banks, all platforms. - Hell yeah. - At Gianni V. Payolo. Fit Jam, macro, fit, fitness baby. We got Michael, Michael Rainey Jr. in here. Where is 22, are we forgetting anything, Mike? Is there anything, I feel like you haven't plugged anything in a little bit, but you always got so much going on. You got a plug for us? - Not yet, not yet. I'm working on two cool last collabs right now, so. - Okay, fire. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, so in the very near future, I'll be plugging that. I'm excited about it, too, so. - Unbelievable soon. - And now we focus on The Crew Hazard for you. - Yes, you know, okay. - I love that. - We're prize picks. Make sure you download prize picks. We got merch coming soon. Thank you guys for listening. We love you. Michael, give us one. - Listen, Man, The Crew Hazard. And you have it, Jabari Banks. Appreciate you both for putting up. - Yeah. - Of course, of course. The last ones are the Airport Buying Breakfast. - Buying Breakfast. Day one, day one.
