314. Is Social Media Making Us Want More Cosmetic Procedures?

The podcast episode begins with a casual discussion about "White Lotus" Season 3, noting its Thai setting, luxury aesthetic, and a trending short bob hairstyle dubbed the "See you next Tuesday" bob. The conversation then shifts to the main topic: the rise of raw, detailed cosmetic procedure vlogs on social media platforms like TikTok. The hosts explore both sides of this trend. On one hand, they appreciate the honesty and demystification it brings, moving away from the secretive, "all-natural" myths of the past and serving as a valuable research tool for those considering procedures. On the other hand, they express concern that constant exposure can prematurely normalize surgeries, create new insecurities, and be driven by commercial interests that profit from perceived flaws. The episode concludes with a "Build My Cart" segment, where the hosts curate an affordable skincare routine for acne-prone, dehydrated skin, recommending gentle cleansers, niacinamide, and salicylic acid products from brands like Bioderma, CeraVe, and The Ordinary.

Adore Beauty acknowledges First Nations people as the traditional owners across the lands and waters of Australia. We recognise and pay our respects to elders past, present and future whose lands were never seeded. You're listening to BDIQ Uncensored, a podcast by Adore Beauty. I'm Hannah First and I'm Melissa Mason and we're season beauty editors and co-hosts here to share our tips, insider scoops and unfiltered reviews. So I can't believe we have not discussed this till this point about how white lotus this season is set in your favourite place in the world. Thailand. I know. Just as we jumped on this recording and I looked at the notes, I realised it's Monday. This is really interrupting my Monday night white lotus time. Last week's episode to get you up to date was full moon party, which was one of the wildest episodes of white lotus that I have seen. So wild. It was excellent. The Sam Rockwell monologue. I have re-watched it 20 times on TikTok after watching the OG on the TV. I don't know that it's the Thailand that I know and love to be honest. I was going to say it's very luxe Thailand, isn't it? It's like luxury yachts and five star on another level. Although last episode they did go to the full moon party. Yes. And that was much more like authentic Thailand or authentic in terms of like casual travel Thailand, I guess. I actually stayed at one of the filming locations. Titu. Yes. So I got really excited because I recognised the first scene, first episode. Obviously, stuff's going down. I won't spoil it for anyone, but it's literally the first scene, so it's not really spoiling it. But obviously they start off with whatever the climax is going to be in the season. They start with a little snapshot of the beginning. And when the person is walking through the water, like they jump into the pond, I was like, I recognise this pond. And I worked out that I'd stayed at the Anantara. And it's one of the Anantaras that is featured, but they filmed it quite a few locations, but the main filming one is Four Seasons, which I haven't stayed at. So I've just stayed at the one from this pond scene. It was bougie as hell. So I feel like I did get the white lotus experience out of it. It was incredible. This season, in particular, for me, I was like, I remember being someone who is not exorbitantly wealthy, being in this environment of all these people, like this incredibly beautiful serene, luxurious place, and everyone else around me was rich. I did see on socials Leslie bibs her hair. She calls it, which I thought was so funny. And so true, she called it a "See you next Tuesday" at a Y Bob. So like, it rhymes with like a funny Bob. I was wondering how you were going to say this word on a podcast. I've been thinking about that all week. I'm going to approach that. She said it just outright. And the hairdresser is actually Jennifer Aniston's hairdresser. Amazing. And if you look it up, it's a very, very short underneath. Like, very, very short. I actually thought it hair looked so good. Yeah, I love it. I feel like these "See you next Tuesday" Bob's are going to be the next hair trend. Yes. Because she has one, and then also Laurie has one, but more in the wavy, curly textured version. I wouldn't say it's a "See you next Tuesday" Bob, but it's definitely the short Bob. And then I saw a meme that was like someone had said, "I have a theory that pour shaft, who's from last season, who is the executive assistant of 10 years?" They were like, "Porsha is Laurie's daughter." And someone wrote, "I love the idea that a Bob can be hereditary." Just because they've got the same hair. I mean, I actually don't think it's the worst theory in the world because Laurie's got one daughter. And I think it would be like a cute little throwback. But that's the only thing you're hinging this on is they have the same hair. So what is on today's episode? Well, "Build My Cart" is back. We are helping a listener who got in touch with us via Instagram with affordable skin care for acne-prone skin that is also dehydrated, which is very common and also really hard, I think, to pick products for, if you don't know what you're doing. And then we're sharing some newfound product loves in stuff we love. But first, it's time for trending. From "No Shops to Foxi" live social media is making cosmetic procedures feel more accessible and tempting than ever. Once upon a time, we only saw the final results. Now we're getting up close footage of the entire process from pre-up consultations to bruised and bandage recovery updates. I saw a video the other day that actually had like staples in the side of the head recovery update. Wow. But is this transparency in power or just another form of beauty pressure? We're going to be chatting about that today in trending where we unpack the beauty conversations of the moment for breakthroughs to break up. It's very much like I'm starting to see them too now, Hannah. You were saying the other week how you ended up on this kind of side of TikTok, right? I'm getting all the things that I don't really want to see. I told you yeah, rich talk and then also surgery transformation. The one that I'm getting at the moment is left surgeries because the problem is I watch them all the way through like as soon as it shows up. I'm so intrigued to see what actually happens at the end of the surgery and like how the eyes look but then it's like you want to see it once not like 500 times. Yes. Well, I think for me and I'm sure other people feel this. I sort of started watching them and in my head maybe this isn't a good thing but I'm like oh my god, they look amazing. I think that you see a lot of content with the transformation is genuinely like so different. I did see the other day though someone that had a nose job that they weren't happy with which is probably the first time that I saw someone that had gone to Turkey and it said they'd had a really bad experience but mostly what I see is they've had an amazing experience. They've had the best time. They're so happy with their transformation. It's interesting that there are some out there where it's like actually I'm not happy with this because I think that is important because that can happen. I was reading through some of the comments and people were saying nose jobs are one of the harder surgeries to get by and you do I guess he are maybe not on tiktok as much but about revision surgeries. I think it is one of those more difficult surgeries as would be a facelift. I'm assuming. Yeah, totally. Well, I guess with nose job though it's such a prominent part of your face that if it didn't turn out the way you're expecting it to I can understand that you might get like sort of oh it wouldn't be like this more fear necessarily but it would be quite confronting I suppose. But look there's this article that I wanted to chat about which was from pop sugar Australia. It's called the demographic that spends the most on beauty may surprise you and spoiler alert it's millennials and then Gen Z and they say how once women hit 40 the amount that they spend on beauty drop significantly and then they sort of start talking about this trend and they start talking about cosmetic procedures and the role of social media and they talk to a surgeon who says when I first started practicing 18 years ago people would whisper I want to talk about Botox and they would keep it a secret from the people in their lives because they were afraid of being judged for doing an anti-aging treatment. Now people live stream themselves getting their lips done and it was really interesting to me because I don't think we can compare life 18 years ago to now because obviously that was pre social media or at the very least it was pre this rise of social media and this era of social media which is when we're extremely honest online like we want authenticity we want raw content and when we're talking about this like these surgery vlogs this is as raw as it gets we've moved on from like the glossy like come with me to get Botox. I was going to say before Botox was just like photos of people's smoothies yeah like that's what social media was oh god yeah like that bell gives an era of Instagram you know everything was very aesthetic I think we've moved to this point with TikTok has really moved us there to raw like unfiltered here's my face like puffed up and angry and healing from getting blessed surgery just say and then here is the final result but here's the journey it took to get there I think that that is such a unique experience to now and of course we're not private about stuff anymore because it's so normalized and is that a bad thing like I don't think that's a bad thing that we're talking about it I mean two minds I think ultimately if you are thinking about getting plastic surgery I am supportive I'm not against plastic surgery at all but I think it's important to make the decision like independent of the peer pressure from socials like I think it's really important to make that decision whether or not it's with a therapist or there's more of a deeper analysis into like why and whether or not will you get this procedure and will you just want to get another one is that really the problem is that really going to fix say the negative thought patterns that you have and the negative self-talk that you have about a particular part of your face or your body I think there's that part of it because what I'm feeling like so as I get older like I've noticed the upper eyelids and I think that pre-tick-talk and pre-seeing all of this online I wouldn't be thinking about it now there's like a tickle in my brain that's being activated by tick-talk yeah oh that person's close to my age you know what I mean so it starts to almost without me even knowing it's like this subconscious oh oh it's okay whereas I probably would have said yes in the future but that's not something that I want to do now yeah but you're saying like almost like it's becoming apparent to you earlier than you think it would have 100% and the same with facelifts I think that there's a lot of content out there about celebrities getting those kind of invisible facelifts you know in their 40s there's nothing wrong with that but I think it is it's almost like normalizing it seeing it so much and of course like if you're lifting your face in our age I think it does fall and so then seeing it on tick-talk instantly lifting through a very intense invasive surgery I don't know if that's healthy I'm sort of like not sold but then on the flip side I think it's such a good research tool like I think yes absolutely you can actually be really prepared for what's to come how people went through their research process I think it's really opened up the ability to see the pros and cons in a more balanced way and this is where I think I've eternally got a struggle with the rise of cosmetic surgeries the cosmetic surgery on social media all of this stuff because on one hand exactly what you said firstly it's not bullshit anymore it's not a celebrity walking down the red carpet saying all I did was drink water and exercise and that's how I've looked 30 since I was 30 and I'm now 60 you know me like we're not getting that anymore we know we're aware that surgeries go into this stuff and we see it in other people and I think there's something really like healthy about that that we have the honesty there now and we have the awareness thanks to the rise of social media this rise of transparency we're not looking at people and thinking oh my gosh why is that person aging barely and my face is like you know my elasticity is going and like my eyelids are drooping like why is it not happening to them because we didn't know because everyone was keeping it a secret right so it's great that I think that this is open and honest and upfront like when Lindsay low and walked out on that red carpet and everyone was like whoa she looks like completely different we knew it was surgery there was a time when we literally didn't know that and we believed these celebrities when they said I've had nothing done you know and so I think that's been really great and I also think what you said is really interesting because that's really true like getting the actual what's an all view and I think of this with hair transplant because I've get a lot of those videos and it is like quite confronting when you see a hair transplant immediately after when you see the process of all the flaking and the falling out bits it's quite a big undertaking and so it's good that people know what is at stake here and what they're going to go through I think that's a good thing however at the same time like you said would I be aware of all of these things I supposedly need to fix about my face or fix about my body if we didn't have social media would I even think about them like there's so many things that come up all the time with these like cosmetic trends where you go okay is this new thing I think of Bucool Fat removal Bucool Fat removal but I don't know it's either Bucool or Buckle one of the two like it sounds more normal remember when that was like a really big thing and yes you know like this was like this thing where I was like I never thought of my cheeks ever and then suddenly I'm like women to now think that we have too much fat you know you know me like like stuff like that where I go I think it's because at the end of the day there is money to be made and so for every authentic I just want to show you what happened when I got a face lift and I just really wanted a face lift and my intentions were pure it was just something I wanted to do for myself for everyone of those then you're going to have companies and surgeons and people that make money off this business pushing new trends and new things for us to hate about ourselves so I think it's always going to be problematic like push pool because money is involved and whenever money is involved it's complicated but I think you're right I probably lean a little bit more towards I like it because I do think better that we know better that we have a view into what this looks like into the process of a surgery better that we're being honest about what's being done so that when we see people's faces we're not thinking that everyone else is an aging and we are like better that it's all out in the open now than back in the like 2010s when we were all pretending like celebrities weren't getting Botox but yeah look if you want a deep dive more on this there are a couple of articles that we read including the pop sugar one that are really great and the links will be in the show notes. Well it is another week for build my cart this is where we play personal shopper and we're curating the perfect ador beauty haul on a budget and today it's say Rania from instagram she messaged us she had a budget of a hundred dollars her skin type was acne prone but dehydrated so she was looking for hydrating products with some barrier repair but also something that was going to treat her acne and not exacerbate it and I think this is a really common problem like acne for a long time and we've talked about this so many times in this podcast we used to like scold our faces off with acids and like horrible physical exfoliators that should not ever be used on the face and thinking that was the way to get rid of acne and to clear it up and then you know ignoring the fact that our skin type may not actually be oily and may not need that much heavy duty product so we've pulled together I will be honest I feel like we weren't really looking at a hundred percent of the budget but we did pull together a list of products that are affordable and I'm pretty sure would come in under a hundred dollars definitely you could get three or four of these for that I reckon look and neither of us are like financial experts but we try so we'll start with cleansers um and we had two options so the first one is bio dermacybium hydrosoothing nourishing cleansing balm for dry acne prone skin it's 3199 so this is a balm so this goes on dry skin and then you rinse it off or you wipe it off so it's very very gentle it's super nourishing it has a mega six and nine it's skin barrier supportive if your skin is really dry and flaky if you're really like I don't need a classic cleanser right now I want something that's just going to remove my makeup remove any dirt and oil in the most gentle fashion this is the one but I think people that don't like this style like a cleansing balm style of cleanser wouldn't want this but I wanted to include it because I felt like it is specifically designed for this skin type if your skin is just having a freak out which often happens if you've got dehydrated acne prone skin this is not going to upset your skin at all but the second option is the Sarah Bay hydrating cleanser it's 2399 so this is more of a traditional cleanser I love this for pretty much everyone honestly it's such a fantastic simple cleanser it's fragrance free it's not going to irritate your skin it doesn't leave your skin feeling tight but it does leave your skin feeling cleansed and Sarah Bay is known for having ceramides and you know skin barrier supportive ingredients in all of their products so that's why this would be fantastic for somebody who is looking to rebuild their skin barrier and protect their skin barrier through acne because it's non-commodogenic so it's not going to block your pores it's not going to exacerbate the acne but it will leave your skin feeling hydrated and not dried out which I think is really important with a cleanser and then looking at serums we've got two really affordable options so the first is the ordinary niacinamide 10 plus zinc 1% it is $9.50 that's so cheap it's amazing so niacinamide is just one of those really great or rounder ingredients pretty much anyone can use it and it's also really great when you've got a lot of oil production or acne and congestion so this one's a water-based formula it'll help with the skin texture on the other hand it'll help with strengthening the skin's moisture barrier it also targets excess oil and then helps to reduce the appearance of pores so I feel like if you're dealing with acne but you're also like not wanting to exfoliate the skin anymore this is a perfect serum for you but when you can handle some exfoliation you'll want to add in some salicylic acid which is one of the best ingredients for acne so the ordinary have their salicylic acid 2% solution serum which is $10.70 also a bargain yes so an adore user has said that I've been through countless and expensive skincare routines trying to get it in check but this is by far the best thing I have tried and this person had painful acne that was really difficult to contain and get under control so when you feel that your skin is ready for something a little stronger you can use niacinamide I use niacinamide and salicylic acid together I love salicylic acid when I'm starting to get breakouts and then for moisturizers we have two again we love options we've got LaRoshpa say Efeclar H Biome moisturizer it's 34.95 this has been designed specifically for acne prone sensitive skin and I think sometimes we can think our skin is dry but it's actually sensitive or it's sensitized because that can come up with flakiness with tightness you know with irritation and again acne prone skin often comes hand in hand with sensitivity so this could be a really great one if you're like is my skin dry or is it sensitive there's squalane in there which is super nourishing but doesn't have the heaviness niacinamide again as we've just discussed as Hannah explained great ingredient for acne prone skin it's soothing and redness reducing I think 34.95 is pretty affordable for a moisturizer a really good affordable moisturizer for this skin type it's got great reviews on a durability and someone said this moisturizer is amazing it's light yet nourishing and it doesn't leave a greasy feeling and I think that's really important when you're looking at acne prone skin you don't want like a film on the top of your skin and then the other option is Cosarex AC collection lightweight soothing moisturizer it's $39 so still you know budget it's got vitamin B5 for barrier function nourishing without weighing a skin down and again design for acne prone skin and it's got a little bit of tea tree in there which is a great ingredient for acne because it's antibacterial and it's anti-inflammatory so it's going to help to heal acne but also reduce that redness and like reduce that irritation so I would say they're both pretty simple moisturizers in the sense that they're not full of active and so on but at the same time I think that's really important if you're dealing with dryness that could be sensitivity and you're dealing with acne because you don't want to like come in with stuff that's going to exacerbate it so there's your little bundle I feel like you could pick and choose I reckon you could get the two serums and I'm moisturizing the cleanse I'm moisturizing yeah yeah yeah for under a hundred you did it the maths is mathing yeah so if you've got money to spend but not show how send us a damn at a door beauty with your request and we'll help build your cart so well I can't remember did I tell everyone that I was living in my parents bookshelf for six months you didn't even tell me you were living in their bookshelf you said you were living in their house no you said you were living in their house and you had like a curtain wall yes a curtain wall and the reason I call it a bookshelf is it had shelves for books on the side in my mind you're in like Harry Potter's like under the stairs yeah it was a bit nicer than that but pretty much and my parents were away they were traveling for some of it so we got it to ourselves for part of the time I actually am home sick I really miss living with them I miss the bookshelf so Nick's been working a lot he's been away so I'm used to going home to my parents and always having someone to sit with and to talk to so I've moved I'm still adjusting because I lived at my previous apartment for many many many years so I'm adjusting to a new environment but the one thing that has been distracting me is homewears so I have never really been into homewears or shopping for things around the house and I can't tell you how many things that you can buy like fancy things that I didn't know you could buy like I just thought you bought a bin from Kmart yeah but when you've renovated a place I think that you're then like no Kmart bin's not good enough for my new hardwood floors I need an expensive bin oh I've actually written here don't look how much do you think I spent on my little bit I just bought one of those little bins for the bathroom um I used to spend like I say a 10 dollar bin from Kmart because I was like Kmart ones are 10 dollars and you're saying it's fancy um 60 dollars more um 80 dollars more what 100 dollars so embarrassed 100 dollars better 100 dollars no more more yeah my mom has one and I just loved it so much I had to how much do you just need to tell me now I bought two it was $280 i'm not $140 bin I think I got 10% off as well okay so there's this website called design stuff and they just have the most beautiful minimalist anything you can think of like toilet roll holder anything around the house that you could think of like I've been looking at this laundry basket on there I haven't bought it because I think it's a little bit too expensive but like $230 for a laundry basket I'm on here and it's like it's what I would want it's everything I would want in my house if I was like rich like there's this beautiful chair and I was like wow that's such a lovely feature chair $8974 I've only done two bins and I did like a dish drying rack I was just about say I've got a lot of dish drying racks showing up here and they look really nice and I got a sponge holder I didn't spend that much I think I spent like $300 once you buy these bins those you just can't go back to Kmart they're so nice it's just a beautiful bin I am eyeing off the laundry basket but I've decided not to so yeah there's things that I just didn't know the other thing that I ordered I did go for the first time in my whole life I bought Esau pant wash I bought three bottles so that I don't run out I'm converted yes she's a convert which one did you get so I got three resurrections yes and then I got post poo drops oh I've heard good things yeah and then the other thing that I've added which I had sitting in my storage was the glass house fragrance scent scene duo yeah so it's basically like a really fancy pants diffuser I have this and I love it yeah yeah did you get it from our producer she sent a couple of things I think she did send it to me and but I had it a while ago I feel like it was sent to me a while ago and I was like this is the most beautiful diffuser ever seen so it's an innovative liquidless diffuser set and it comes with two cents so you've got the lost in a mouthy and kaioto in bloom and the way that it works is you get this like it's a very solid kind of base that has five holes and then you get five stems and you fill them with the stems to be honest initially the the scent is a little bit overpowering so when I first put it in my toilet up on the ledge and I thought whoa that is really intense but it actually after a couple of days it becomes more subtle yeah like settles down yeah you can do it for 30 days and then obviously after 30 days then you replace it with the other stems but it's a like a really beautiful vessel that you put the stems in yeah it is it's like a little heavy gold like half moon shape right yeah yeah for me circle yeah yeah it's gorgeous it's stunning I understand this I understand moving into your place and wanting to finally just kind of nest essentially like in my last place I still can't understand oh no I'm not gonna say that I was gonna say those bins are so solid they could double as a that thing called that you put your feet when you turn everything in the world a little poo stand for your feet it's so solid that it could double as a poo stand for sure now I'm kind of sold maybe you don't want to do that because you then have got your feet on a bin maybe get a separate poo thing what are they called I just call it a poo stool because that's what it is it's the stool and I put my feet on it to poo and now do you know what Hannah I was gonna talk about a really fancy dog wash that yeah smells amazing but wiping that off the table because now I'm just gonna talk about poostools because I've not talked about this on the podcast have you got a fancy poo stool I personally haven't I don't have a fancy one so I have a crap plastic one I don't even know where I got it and I think honestly and I'm ashamed of saying this because I'm really against it but I think I got it from Temu the one time I did a Temu shop which was a long time ago and I feel like it's probably the only thing that I've kept which is exactly the problem with Temu right but it is my favorite thing I literally have become like a poo stool salesman like I talk to people about this poo stool all the time like if anyone brings up like any kind of like poo issues of constipation or like irregularity I'm like invest in a poo stool you need a poo stool let me tell you about my poo stool and I am obsessed with it do you hide the poo stool when friends come over well see I had it okay well I had it when I was living in the non territory so we didn't really have many people come over and so it just tucks into the toilet like around the base of the toilet so it's out of the way but when people go just to the toilet just casually but I didn't like hide it and I you know what I don't think I will hide it in Sydney either like I don't think I'm gonna hide it I think I'm just gonna proudly display my poo stool so unfortunately design stuff do not have a poo stool I'm very sad about that because I'm gonna say I want to get a nicer one because mine's just like white plastic I'm looking now Etsy's got one wooden or bamboo ones where they're a little bit more stylish for the bathroom but if anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about it's basically like a little stool and you put your feet on it and then it puts your legs at a right angle so it lifts up your legs so your knees are like in line with your hips are a little bit higher and it's meant to be the optimal positioning for pooing and I vouch for this this is when I do my best poos is when I've got the poo stool going because everything just comes out a lot easier there's no like sitting around waiting for it they should design bathrooms with the ledge yes you should have to step up onto the toilet so that your feet are naturally in that position yes I'm just looking here mom and me I had an article yes I tried the hundred and fifty five dollar poo stool that sold out on group I on group that article I want the group poo stool it looks beautiful I'm going to try and find a beautiful poo stool and I'm going to give it to our producer to put in the links I think the links are going to be design stuff so that you too can go and look at the hundred and forty dollar bins my mom and my sister got me onto designstuff.com. I read it it's beautiful I actually might be doing a bit of a stalk through later because some of the stuff was actually not outrageous the kitchen stuff's good can you imagine a nice dish yes drawing tray that would make my life infinitely better I couldn't imagine it that you don't have to like get rid of when guests come round yes and that doesn't just go like all gross and like rusty and ugly so quick talk like I have guests around I don't see anyone I am like a total hermit I texted Mel the other day and said I don't ever want to see anyone I just like staying home and not talking to anyone but it's for your benefit it's for your eyes it's like you want to go into your kitchen yes yeah I write it you know what I back you and your hundred forty dollar bins I don't even care what part of the house they're in I think people are judging me right now on the bin but I did it so it's happened it's done guys it's already done so look on a different note that is not as fun as talking about who stools and design for your house there's this filter on tiktok and it has sent me mad it's driven so many people mad I saw it the other day to be fair I saw it on my tiktok once and I was like what the hell is this and then I saw people talking about it like it is obviously like gone bigger than just a one-off if you don't haven't heard about it or you're not on tiktok it's a filter that like you know someone poses in a video and then it like takes a photo of them and then it changes their body to being a bigger person basically problems not so much that it's doing that it's people's responses to that so I have not seen a video where anyone has had a positive reaction to this they're just saying things like this filter's so humbling oh my god grow steep fat phobic comments coming out all over the place it just seems so normalized whenever people have used it I've just only really seen reactions that have been really negative I thought we'd come further than this I really thought that we'd like moved on from judging body size and from considering a particular size as bad essentially and what this is proving is that we've gone nowhere like we're basically still back in like you know the 2000s when we thought that when a celebrity put a little bit of weight on it was gross and I just think that's so upsetting in 2025 I've read through the comments at least people are like really speaking up in the comments there's one that's hey so this trend is not okay and a lot of people saying this is like a real mean girls yeah mean girls on tiktok it is like that there's a Sydney bass rider Rebecca sure she's amazing and she did this podcast episode of ABC's podcast ladies we need to talk and it was years ago and it's always stuck with me because she was talking about she's pluscised and she was talking about the experience of being a bigger person in this world and feeling like you're always taking up too much space like people make you feel like you're taking up too much space or they ignore you entirely like you become invisible and it was fascinating to me because it's like I haven't had that experience and so I think when people do these things with these filters they're like essentially I guess ignoring the fact that they have no idea what it's like I think if we understood what it was like do you think like I don't think people are evil enough to then be so cruel and to be so horrible in their attitudes I guess but I think these people that are doing this have never experienced that in their lives but also aren't bothering to learn what it must feel like so yeah it's really gross but you saw a different filter that sort of in the same thing I've been getting the opposite filter yeah I'm surprised it's sort of taken off yeah right I would say it and go oh and not yeah I haven't seen this particular filter I saw the reverse so like people putting like a skinny filter on themselves yeah yeah and is there reaction like oh my god I look so good vibe I can't actually remember yeah if there was any like text over top I've seen it a few times it is like exactly what you just said I think that's what is so shocking and disappointing to me is like why is this even taking off like hmm I thought we'd come further than this I thought that we had moved on from like stigmatizing particular sizes and like not understanding that like size is not something that needs to be critiqued or like damned you know so it's like how did this actually take off on tiktok is where I think my disappointment lies it's really gross but yeah it really just proves to me that like we have a long way to go with body positivity and body acceptance literally what is it to people that other people have a different size to them I don't understand but anyway it's gross like you said I'm glad that people are now starting to call it out in the comments at the very least there are still people out there that do think this is awful and do want to stand up and say hey this is like really rank well we will see you next week why if you liked the episode tell your friends and leave us a review if you're in the mood for more content head Summary:

FAQs

It's a podcast by Adore Beauty where beauty editors share tips, insider scoops, and unfiltered reviews on beauty topics.

Social media has made cosmetic procedures more transparent and normalized, with people sharing raw, unfiltered content from consultations to recovery, reducing stigma but also potentially increasing pressure.

Pros include honest insights into procedures and recovery, helping with informed decisions. Cons involve potential normalization of surgeries and increased self-criticism due to peer pressure.

Affordable options include Bioderma Cicabio cleansing balm or CeraVe hydrating cleanser, The Ordinary niacinamide or salicylic acid serums, and La Roche-Posay Effaclar H moisturizer.

Niacinamide helps strengthen the skin's moisture barrier, reduces excess oil, minimizes pores, and improves texture without over-drying, making it suitable for acne-prone skin.

It's a short bob haircut popularized by celebrities like Leslie Bibb, featuring very short layers underneath, and is predicted to become a trending hairstyle.
