The episode centers on the Pittsburgh Penguins’ strong start to the NHL season, with wins in their first two games fulfilling a promise to extensively discuss their performance. Key players like Tommy Novak and Nick Robertson have delivered impactful goal-scoring, while defenseman Sam Gerard, acquired in a trade, shows promise despite a rocky past. The team’s defensive strength, particularly from goalie Arty, contributes to their early success, though their resilience in close games raises questions about consistency. A notable moment involves Tyquan Thornton’s injury, where an awkward and inappropriate player reaction drew criticism, underscoring the emotional toll of on-ice incidents. Meanwhile, the Detroit Red Wings face internal instability, highlighted by Dylan Larkin’s public trade request and growing player dissatisfaction, which threatens team cohesion. The Panthers are also under pressure due to Sasha Barkov’s injury, making them vulnerable without their captain. The discussion also touches on broader team dynamics, including trade strategies, ownership decisions, and fan sentiment, such as the Sabres’ banner controversy, which sparked a debate over team recognition and fan engagement. Throughout, the show blends humor, analysis, and personal reactions to explore how teams navigate performance, player morale, and emotional highs and lows. The episode ultimately emphasizes that success in hockey is not just about wins, but also about how teams handle challenges, injuries, and internal conflicts.
It is Monday October 50th United States and Canada. Brad Marshal is back and this is the show called What Chaos on the Ringer Network from Boss Mask Shoots. My name is David Bean. I subside Pete Blackburn and holding it down in the city of seems will probably never hear from again. Respectfully, it's Sean Depas. Hey Pete, happy victory Monday. Yeah, it's a victory Monday that doesn't feel as good as it should because Pete behind the curtain. We had maybe an opportunity to be at that Buffalo Bill's New England Patriots game. No, that was the chargers one. I feel like there was an opportunity, uh, Patriots Bill's one to be there. If we got tickets and stuff, yeah, it was the chargers one that we were, it was two weeks ago that we could have been there. But we went to Chicago instead. Well, Connor Bedard, appreciate you buddy. That's right, but also I'm right because there was a, uh, a, somebody reached out offered us an opportunity. Oh, right. Well, what was it? Just I'm not saying on the show, but we had an opportunity to go to yesterday's, uh, Bill's Patriots game and why don't we talk about that because it wasn't going to work for, for me at least. Oh, okay. Yeah, I have no idea about that. Yeah. So it, uh, it didn't feel quite as good yesterday. So I wouldn't want it to be there. I would have missed the chapter in, uh, the Efton Chisholm touchdown because I would have been in line getting a Keon Coleman jersey. I would have missed the whole climax of the game. Sean, how do you feel easy to get? I mean, did I not say that this was possible? I said the same thing I said about the chargers game is the bills. There are a bunch of assholes, uh, quarterback play, like I texted you guys yesterday, quarterback, like a high schooler, secondary play, like the high schoolers that quarterback balled out against in high school. It was off. They're a bad team. And when the quarterback's bad, they're, uh, borderline and watchable team. They're still better than the Patriots. You happy? Yeah. Are you afraid of the Patriots? No. No, like his, uh, no. I mean, Drake made it was good yesterday. I'll give him that. Here's the thing. We're secondary. He's played. Even if you don't think the Patriots are good, which I think there's plenty of reason for that to be a valid, valid place to stand, because they're not very good. All the Patriots have to do is be good enough to be in a position to fuck up your life. And they will probably fuck up your life at some point down the road. And I think that's very plausible. I mean, I don't, uh, you're giving them far too much credit. I, uh, the bills are who fuck up my life. Whoever it's against is whoever it's against. And yes, it hurts more when it's against the Patriots, but I'm not giving the Patriots a lick of credit for yesterday. The bill or a bunch of assholes. There's only two things about that game. I care about one. Keon Coleman breakout game in year three, which is great. I know it's year three, but feels like you're nine with Keon Coleman, but also year two and a half, because Sean McDermott maybe kind of fucking just hated that guy and benched him at points last year. Actually, not play football for a little while, but I think the bills were hustling the league where it's like when you have that trick play in your back pocket, and you're like, we'd like to not use it early. So let's just keep it in our back pocket as long as we could. They got two and what? A seven season before they had to actually be like, okay, Keon Coleman can do stuff. That was number one. And number two was CJ Gardner Johnson after the game. Unbelievable behavior talking about Efton Chisholm saying an elevated guy made a hell of a play. Probably never hear from him again. Respectfully. I mean, there's one thing that that guy does well. It's talk shit. It may be the only thing he does well to be quite honest, because he is a member of aforementioned secondary. That is dog shit. Max Harrison. He had the worst day at his job. That guy probably can't play cornerback of the NFL, but he just sits in the long line of players that Brandon Green has drafted to be a starting cornerback who also probably isn't a starting corner back in the NFL. Shout out Kair Ewan. Big hub you simultaneously had the best and worst day at their job yesterday. Who? Ty Quanthtort. Oh, because holy shit. He was, I felt so bad. Like, obviously, he gave me a lot of negative feelings towards him when he was a patriot. Some of that's the patriots and they're drafting of water severs. I was happy to see him finally kind of become a water seaver. And then the his foot just being sideways. I've never seen a player celebrate like having their foot turned in the complete opposite direction, get up, stand on it and then look down be like, oh, no. That was one of the most surreal like injury experiences as a viewer I have ever had because it was very simultaneous in the me understanding the lineman understanding and the commentator/producers understanding what was happening where yeah, he got us to celebrate. So everyone was like, it's all fine. And then next thing, you know, his land on his back is a lineman runs over and is checking on him being like, what's good? And he's just pointing down and he's pointing at the foot. And like physically recoils and runs away from him. It was, and then you hear Jim Nance and JJ, why be like, oh, and then they cut off very odd. I don't blame the lineman whatsoever because like that is a very human reaction, but that is absolutely not what you want to do when you're trying to comfort the injured person is to look down and then just recoil and be like, oh, you are fucked. That is disgusting. And then just run away. Yeah, that was, it was bad. Definitely not the most, the most pressing. We take injuries equal across the board, but of injuries that we'll discuss today, tyquan Thornton, I'm trying to not undermine tyquan Thornton's injury, but Sasha Barkov and whatever's going on with the Panthers will definitely be a big part of today's conversation. I was trying to transition out of football. I was going to also add in their shout out the chargers, kept me watching that game until the final minute. Absolute assholes, as always, they're terrible, they're Owen for Pete. What's on the show today? Today on the show, a promise is a promise. The Pittsburgh Penguins are two and a. And there was a promise that if they were two and a, at least one-third of this podcast will not shut the fuck up about them. So you're going to get at least one-third of this podcast glazing the hell out of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Detroit's dilemma, that is very vague and not, not a specific, I would say, because Detroit's dilemma. A vague thing isn't specific. I was trying to find another way, trying to, I lost my source. Detroit's got a lot of dilemmas. They got a recent one. There's more good news out of Detroit. Stay tuned for that. Helmets in Swords. It is the opening, this was the opening weekend of the NHL season, which means that some teams got their first win of the season, which means that we got to see their first win tokens, locker room tokens. Victory cigars, some might call them. We'll go around the league. We'll look at some of the victory cigars and grade them. And then finally, fighting in hockey. Is that about? Sean thinks that because the, there was a banner at the Keybang Center that he won an argument. So we're going to have a fight with him about it. I'm very excited for that. Also shout out, shout out Tyrell Bauer. You have, you can have shooters. Doesn't mean that their, your shooters are, yeah, fucking, what's the, the Star Wars? Your, your shooters are stormtroopers. They're not going to hit anything because the, I, the aim is, I know a miscalibrated. I'll tell you right now, if I thought there was a chance you were going to convince me that I was wrong, I would have already admitted I was wrong. I stand past my belief. So much more excited. We're going to also fly through everything else to get to that. By the way, Sean Digger has shooters of which I am one. You are one of them. Yeah. Doesn't mean it wasn't the fucking biggest bomb and move film history and doesn't have a fucking 51 on Rotten Tomatoes right now. But we fucking rock baby. Anybody who's seen it, hit me. I, let's talk about it. Just because it bomb doesn't mean it's not good. Just because, oh, it's good. Just because my shooters might be missing. Doesn't mean I'm not right. Even I don't really care as much about the Sabers banner argument as I do about Digger, but I saw an opportunity to get in there that folks, if you're in line to see Digger stay in line. I can't imagine there's a line because nobody is going to see it. They're famously not aligned. But power through the first however many minutes. I don't want to spoil anything. It's a bad start for a cell. That movie, that movie fucking rules. I gave it four and a half stars on letterbox and I had been calling myself a fucking coward every second since. Why isn't five stars? I can't answer that. It fucking rules. Everybody goes see it. Movies are back and Tom Cruise and Alejandro in your E2 whose movies I typically don't really care about have saved them. Let's begin with the Pittsburgh penguins. They barely won their second game, but they did win their second game. They have now won their first two games this season. We said in our preview that they would not do what they did last year when they surprised us all and made the playoffs, but that if they won the first two games of the season, my exact words were I won't be shutting the fuck up about it. And I meant that to be they win the first two games of the season. Maybe it's opportunity for people to say. Are they doing it? Could they be doing it? I lost a little bit of the wind in my sales when Shayna came on like one second into the season was like everybody. I've done the research metro bad. Anything you could you see out of any metro team? Done means shit. All those teams are bad. So just proceed with that. We all know the way out of your sales though. She had a bad show. So she was she was wrong about a lot of stuff. That also shouldn't
the wind out of your sales because that further pushes the penguins agenda. Like if the penguins go to the Hmong garbage or just like, just like somewhat redeemable among garbage, we saw it in the Pacific Division last year, that can go a long way. It could cycle amongst garbage. All right, I put together a little presentation because I want to be organized in my not chatting the fuck up about this. And I will say if these graphics look not as hastily put together as the ones I usually do when I put together presentations. I think that there needs to be a separation between Sean graphics and Pete and I being like, oh, I just thought of this thing in the show is about to start in two minutes. I'm just going to take the blue background, put some text on it, throw it at Sean and then bam, it's done. I do think it's charming when some of the graphics are hastily put together. This is DJ coaching the fact that he used chat GPT to no, no, I more of a plot guy, not and I did not also mean that to say that Pete makes bad graphics because Pete, contrary to popular belief, makes the thumbnails for this show and that is like a real, real endeavor of his and they've been unbelievable this year because the ringer has getty images, getty images, change my life. Yeah. Anyway, I had a little more time. These weren't put together one second before the show. So some of these graphics will look kind of shitty, but some of them don't look as terrible as they will look in the future. I don't want to say, I want it to be known that little presentations that we put together will still look very homemade and ask, I do not want us to lose our charm as we work with the the the stars and the Bill Simmons general circle is right. Hell a lot of cushioning here, both like you're cushioning for like to be impressed. I like that element of it is that you're not cushioning for people to be let down. You're cushioning for them to do not expect this in the future. I'm saying, if they look okay, it's going to be good as shit. Don't be used with that. But but the what are we looking at here? Graphic is intentionally like actually that that kind of bangs, but I don't want to I'm saying I don't want to lose that look as because Sean, you are actually are like a graphic design genius and stuff, but no one fucking cares about that. Let's talk about the penguins hopefully for as long as I just yapped about graphics. The penguins won their first two games of the season. So as promised, where are we at, Sean? Show me a graph. Three, two, one. Oh, it would be so good. After all of this cushioning after all this cushioning, the graphics just don't work. Yes. Okay. So the penguins won their first two games of the season. You got the Drake hotline bling to shutting the fuck up about it. We're not going to shut the fuck up about it or at least I won't. How are they doing it? I can tell you it's with the multi goal game guys. Nick Robertson, two goals in game one, Tommy Novak, two goals, including the game winner in game two. What's his birthday? His Tommy Novak. Yeah. Let me effort it. It would be horrible if it was. Okay, because they're still some other dates that yeah, I would say, I mean, I would say pretty much all of the other ones would be better though. All of the other ones. Well, I mean, yeah, that's probably the first one, but there's other ones that probably get there. Yeah, they're. April 28th. April 28th. I think we're safe. I'm looking up. Oh, yeah. So I looked it up and there was on up on April 28th, 1996, a lone gunman opened fire at the prison colony site in Port Arthur, Tasmania, Australia, and killed 35 people. That's pretty bad. So that's it. Yeah, I'm looking it up. There are tons of tragedies on April 28th. Yeah, I was going to see Benino Mussolini got executed. Well, that's not that. That's not that. I was going to say Sean. Okay. I know we're all aware to two or three of us are proud of telling us on the show, not not a tragedy, but it did happen on on the 28th. Okay, enough of that. I will note, he didn't do a bolt in one game, but Gino Malkin also has two goals this season. So guys are scoring goals. And my question is, who's next? Who's scoring a couple of goals in their next game? We'll talk about the upcoming game in a little bit. But let me also fill you in on this is my favorite one. Sam's got the stuff. I'm talking about Samuel Gerard, who is tied for third in the NHL and points per game by defenseman this season. Is he Evan Bouchard? No, no one can be, but it does give us a didubus fleece moment. Because if you remember last year, it was during our show, the penguins traded Brett Kulak to the avalanche for Samuel Gerard and a 20, 28 second round pick. Penguins, I got a note, have seven second round picks over the next three years. Jesus Christ. Thanks a lot. Stan Bowman among the others. I was like, where are these second round picks from? Oh, yeah, the fucking Tristan Jari trade. They still got a second round pick coming their way from that bullshit. Did dobus fleece? Jury's out, but I am rooting for Sam Gerard. He's been a guy who's had a tough couple of years at work, I would say. Yep, still 27 years young. I know the contract is an amazing, but much like the contract Brett Kulak signed in Colorado. Every contract has looked better since, I don't know, July 4th, 2026. I'll say my answer to didubus fleece. I think that's Michael Scott voice, a win, win, win, win. I think this trade. It was a win for the penguins. It was a win for the avalanche and it was a win for Brett Kulak because he gets to stay a horse on a good playoff team, win, win, win, but I needed an opportunity to get a didubus fleece. I think it's all fair. All right. Let's see, what's next? Oh, this isn't as positive, but it just is a temperature check on what's going on with the penguins. Their goal tender is keeping them gushing. Arters, she loves in game one. 19 save shout out at Philadelphia goes in there, kicks their ass, which as we're learning, maybe not the hardest thing to do in the world, given Phillies start game two against the Habs at home, faces 25 shots, allows five goals. That's bringing that goalie efficiency percentage down from perfect to an 800 clip. So with good goal tending, they win with me goal tending, they win, but the point stands they're winning and the rest of the league is on notice. And the rest of the league is on notice. Alex Ovechkin today out of nowhere called an emergency I quit meeting with press. You can see in that that's a press conference. Alex Ovechkin declared that man's holding court. I've seen enough James maddenly the third voice from that thing you do happy anniversary. I quit. Are we allowed to do like some light body shaming for for who's at what's his name? The actor, something Shack who played Jimmy maddenly because he's ripped in real life. No, I'm talking about a look at that, look at that. I'm poking out of the the sweatshirt there. Yeah. Yeah. Well, these famously doesn't really take care of his body. Yeah. Jonathan Shack apologies to the great cast of that thing you do. Yeah. Alex Ovechkin straight up is quitting because the penguins. So the penguins have driven Alex Ovechkin back to Russia. He's over this. Yeah. He's just like, I gotta get out of here. I see the writing on the wall. It's is not my division anymore. He knows where he knows where this is going and he is out. Yeah. Sure. They almost chunked it the other night. If you were watching, they led the Canadians five to one Saturday allowed four straight goals. What does that do? Sets up Tommy Novak. He was like, you know what? I haven't scored in a while this game. Let me put this one on ice. Scores the game winner. And while you could say there's a real Oilers game. It's a bit of an Oilers game. You could, you know what? Like, back when the Oilers were awesome. Like, if you want to go into like late 80s and early 90s, penguins. I guess that would be a reverse Oilers game, right? They've no, they've done both. They do it both ways. They will they do it. They'll blow a lead and win it. They will come back and still lose it. The door goes both ways with the Oilers. Let's stay on topic though. We're talking about the penguins because yeah, they blew that lead. But as you know, it's due a little simple math here. A blown lead, Sean. A blown lead plus and over time when equals, they're galvanized. Okay. All right. I like that. They've won two. They've, they're undefeated. Have won both their games and their galvanized. That is tough to do. Yeah, I was going to say, is that even possible? I guess, you know, if you create the adversity, but you overcomment without dropping a game, you still can be galvanized and undefeated. Okay. Exactly. So things are lying in, things are looking great for the penguins right now. But now comes the real test because this evening, I love an early season game of the year. Tonight at 7 30 PM Easter in the United States in Canada, stew Skinner and the red
That hot Winnipeg Jets visit the penguins. Red hot. They lost over the weekend to the, uh, the old Boston Bruins. They lost in overtime, overtime to the Boston Bruins, and then they beat, who would the Jets beat the other night? I mean, the other night, which would have been, I guess that would be, didn't, did they play last night? I thought they played on their, their season opener was against the Bruins and then they beat the lowly Detroit Redwings yesterday, three, two on the road, went into that barn, which is merciless by the red hot Winnipeg Jets on a one game winning streak over the Detroit Redwings. All right. Okay. There. Would you like to buy a Philadelphia Flyers, Wardo? I will, uh, I'll disregard that winning the game is winning a game. You know what's cooler than losing three games? What? A billion dollars. Great job on the graphics that was you were, you were did not overhype that those are good graphics. I will come to never expect that again. Yeah. I don't, I was, as I was doing, I was like, I want to redo these because I don't want people to think shit's always going to be clean around here, okay? We, uh, spill things, we get soup on our ties, et cetera, et cetera. So congratulations to the penguins. There is a new hottest team in hockey and it is the Pittsburgh penguins. Meanwhile, okay, meanwhile, the Rangers were terrible at home last year. Second worst home record in the league as we've discussed this year. They are undefeated at home. So what changed? Porsche Sturken got off his ass and finally started chipping in offensively scored a goal equal Friday against the lightning, his first goal of his career. He became in doing so, by the way, the first, uh, Rangers draft pick of his draft class to score a goal in the NHL. No way. Yeah. Fuck yeah. That's the best. I also just saw like a million tweets being like Igor Sturken has more points than this team, than this team, than this team, which all above board. I did see a really good, um, uh, Evar Stenberg is really good through two games and Gavin McKenna hasn't scored yet. And then my favorite sentence in the world, I'm going to start doing it all the time. It said, imagine Stenberg on the leaves and then like the brain, I'm going to be, I'm going to be really into Imagine blank on the blank with the mind blown emoji thing, find anything that could tie any two players together or two teams together and do imagine like J.J. Paturka, his scored goals in each of his first two games. Imagine J.J. Paturka on the sabers, uh, that shit's good, uh, what just I can, I can not imagine that getting old very quickly. All right, uh, Sunday against Utah, Igor Sturken could have gone for another goal, he didn't, he passed instead and got an assist on an empty netter, which gives him points and two straight. Then he just fucking went for a goal, a goal again anyway, he had to know there was absolutely no chance that was going to shoot or shoot, that's a he just say, you don't know if you don't try. Igor should start in absolute heat, check their, I mean, I, I absolutely respect not resting on your laurels, even when it's been like one day that's because it's a home game for the Rangers. He knows that that shit isn't over, right? You got a chance of that scoring, try to bury it. That was on target. It was going to, I mean, you never know, I guess it's Pock's mouth, but he was going to score. He was going to do it in other goalie goal news, the Winnipeg Jets put out a graphic that has all of their goal songs for the year, which I think we all agree individual goal songs. I'm not crazy about. Yeah. I like it being more of a team vibe, unless you've got Jeff Skinner on your team because he's going to pick some hilarious shit. Well, uh, in this, they included Stewart Skinner, good behavior, Stewart Skinner's goalie goal song or goal song is Abracadabra by Steve Miller band. I love that. I don't know if it's because there's some magic stuff in there and he's thinking it would be magic if I scored a goal or that Abracadabra is a banger. You might not, do you know that song? I don't. You know, see, he was singing it before the show. Yeah. You know that song, right, John? Yeah. Abracadabra. I want to reach out and grab you a little problematic, but Steve Miller can kind of flirt with that, okay? You don't know. It's sampled in a recent M&M song, I haven't I haven't listened to a lot of recent M&M songs apologies. Oh, you got a, you got to listen to, uh, what was what was his response to, uh, to machine gun Kelly, Sean, there was a rap demon. That was machine gun Kelly and then M&M, how recent are we talking? That was like years ago, everything was years ago at this point. We're 100 years old. Uh, I know what he's speaking of new M&M music. I don't know if this is correct, but M&M apparently is to be a kid rock song, which like those two completely opposite sides of the political spectrum, I mean, both Detroit boys. Yeah. They were in similar, I think that they didn't come up in similar ways, but if in the early 2000s, you were like, hey, name a white rapper from Detroit. People were giving you two. Yeah, but I for sure, but rock is like very pro Trump and M&M is like super, super anti-Trump. Give me one example, I can give you that's an awfully hot coffee pot. So like deaf, this is, is this the unifying collaboration that American needed from the two people it was not asking for? Some things are deeper than politics, Pete. That's true. That's fair. And love Detroit apparently is one of those things. Yeah, I, um, M&M's new music, obviously, as has been documented on the machine gun Kelly song rap demon is not good. And yeah, some could say his beard's weird as machine gun Kelly says in the song rap demon, which then got mocked by M&M in his rebuttal. Yeah, his recent stuff is bad. I still want to see what it sounds like every time M&M puts something out. Even though I was off M&M like way before I heard asked like that for the first time in my life, like two months ago, really offensive song. Are you M&M making offensive music? No way. I was, are you familiar with Kid Rock and M&M's first joint venture, 1998's fuck off? Oh, yeah, but, but was M&M on that original? I know the song fuck off by Kid Rock. It says, I mean, that's according to this article from the Seattle Times dot com Kid Rock and M&M first run forces in 1998 to record fuck off for the former artist, hit album, double without a cause. You're right. Right. So that was on double without a cause. I, maybe M&M was on that originally or maybe it was a remix or something, but that's Kid Rock chat for today. A bunch of Red Wings fans in the chat being like, can we catch a break? Can the people have destroyed catch one break? Well, yeah, Kid Rock can buy the PWHL Detroit teams. I mean, at this point, the people of Detroit may prefer that over the illitch family owning any more sports teams. And he's got M&M collaboration money right now. That's true. A second time. Don't know how much that's going for. He's getting the residuals from fuck off from 1998 and be the upcoming, do we know the name of this new venture? Sean, what the output's going to be called seven cents. Oh, well, the song is called seven cents. I really considered that like a lot of Red Wings fans and Tigers fans are also a Michigan football fans. Shit's bad. Yeah. Yeah. It's bad. The Romeo, Michigan native and model oil as Kid Rock posted notice on X that his Christian album Halfway to Jesus, but with the number two instead of T.O. Halfway to Jesus will be soon released. Its third track claims to feature Detroit native M&M. Okay. We'll hit some Red Wings in a few minutes and believe you me, Red Wings fans, you're going to love it. First, we got to talk about the Panthers put in barcov on long term engine reserve with a second leg injury in two years, Sasha barcov, the captain and the selky winner for the Panthers. His leg in the sharks game on, I want to say, it was Thursday night, left the game, didn't come back. Of course, barcov missed all of last season with multiple torn ligaments in his right knee. This injury is to his left leg and sources told Emily Kaplan and Elliott Friedman, among others that the Panthers think from the MRI that he's not going to miss the season. That said, he's on LTIR. And that's not amazing. And I'll say the Panthers got Brad Marshall back last night. They did. He scored. He looked really good. Yeah, scored the game time goal in an eventual loss to the ducks who look really good themselves. But Panthers could be in for fallow year part two if this shit goes wrong. It's just, I mean, it's the one player that you can't lose for extended period of time. I think that proven this team, I mean, to say that like all of last year was because of the bar cuff thing is a little bit.
uh, disingenuous 'cause they lost literally everybody, but they did pack it in because of the barcups. He gave them ideas. He is their most consequential player and you, you just can't survive. I would say losing him or having him not be close to or at full strength. Like that is just unsurvivable. So I, as much as I want to root against the Panthers, I want to root against the Panthers at full strength. Yeah. And I want a barcub to be there. I want them to be, uh, I don't want them to have excuses. I don't want them to have another failure. I hope the barcub is not done for the season for many different reasons. Sean, it's your MVP, which you paid manning MVP. Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes. I would like to see it, you know, and no one separates themself and the Panthers are dog shit again. That's it's barcub for heart. Do you think this opens the door for the Dylan Larkin thing? That's right. No. I think that if that happened, I was like, oh, fuck, they're going to get Larkin on shit. No, mainly because of the new LTIR rules. It's not like barcub gets hurt. You put them on LTIR, bang, there's $10 million. You trade for Dylan Larkin. Everything's okay. You bring back, uh, barcub in the postseason and you're good to go now. If a player is going to return from being on LTIR, you don't get their full cap relief. You get the average of what the league salaries were last year. So the average cap hit last year in the NHL was $3.9 something million dollars. That ain't getting you to the, what even is Larkin seven and a half something like that somewhere around there? Yeah. Yeah. That's not getting you there. So you need to move money out and they claim, well, they would have to move money out anyway because they just don't have futures to trade for Larkin. Right. And they, like 0.7 for Larkin, 8.7, okay. What's Anton Lundell making? Because they then need to move Lundell out to do it and they say that they're not moving him out for anything. If you wanted to go get Larkin, I think at this point, you would have to do it. And if I'm the panthers, I'm not doing that. You need to do too many things and you are too absolutely loaded when Larkin, oh, I'm sorry, when Barkov is healthy, the thing is though like $5 million for Lundell, by the way. Okay. We've been talking about at some point, like this isn't the panthers are set up for 10 years. This is the panthers are set up for like four years and they're going to win four years and last year was one of them. Yes, exactly. And they've already done the fallow year that we expected to happen at some point. So this or next year, they should be expecting to win the cup. So if getting Larkin helps you do that, you're already moving everything you can minus Lundell. But if I'm the Red Wings, I'm like, yeah, your fucking 2029 first round pick might be unbelievable, but I'm Sean Horkov. What does that do for me right now? Right. Yeah. So it's a, it's like a thing that makes sense in my head and then the more you think about it, the more you talk yourself out of it. It's probably not going to happen. But on the panthers, you know, who looks utterly useless to the first like a few games? You better not say it's Seth Jones. Ready to chuck. Oh, that brother ain't doing shit through a couple games. So I mean, if Barca I saw him fight, it's a point feet. So tough start for the panthers and they're kind of like powerhouse claim. Yes. And while Dylan Larkin isn't the only Red Wing that we can discuss when it comes to trades because as reported on sports net Saturday night, Simone Edvinson prefers a trade out of Detroit. And Elliott Freeman was careful to say prefers a trade because you never know. Maybe the Red Wings come back to him and say, here's a big contract offer. The Red Wings got themselves in a position where I found myself before when you're buying airline tickets. And as you wait and as you hem in haw, the tickets get more expensive. And if you're planning on taking that trip, you know at some point, you are buying the airline tickets. The Red Wings are now at the point where if they are to sign Edvinson, it's going to be for a lot more than they initially thought was a little too high for them. But you've seen other teams, such as the ducks to their credit, take their medicine with Minchikov where they were like, fuck, we're screwed now. We've got to sign this guy. We've talked about it before like fine, too much, yeah, take it, whatever. If the Red Wings are going to sign Edvinson, we've set it last week with Shayna. Just fucking do it now. But I think that Edvinson is pissed off enough that they've had over a year to sign him now. A year and a half something like that to sign him, haven't done it on good faith to camp. Yes. Without being paid, without a contract, participated in camp with the assumption that a deal would just get done, like you fucking idiots, you idiots. There's like driving a hard bargain in negotiating and daring, but what they have done is negotiate your auditory. Yes. But as I think we all listen to 32 thoughts this morning and if you haven't, make sure you do it after you check this out, Elliot talking about Edvinson did plant ideas, I think, in all of our brains, which is, Elliot said, it's interesting that the Red Wings have both of these guys to trade now, Larkin and Edvinson. If there were things that they wanted for Larkin but couldn't get for him, you probably can get those things for Edvinson. Here now, if you're the Red Wings, a team that does have a franchise defenseman that does have a really good young forward in Lucas Raymond that does have a multi-time 40 goal score in Alex to bring it. Yeah. The Red Wings are low on guys, but they do have some pieces that every team should want. If they trade both of those guys for the right things, this isn't attractive, but like you can be where the Bruins are, where you've got, like, you're not going to add kind of a bad sign when that's the goal, but you can't be where you're like, hey, we're not totally rebuilding. We've got young pieces, we've got a good older piece if to bring it is going to stay there for some reason. He's just really loyal to Detroit. He likes the area, et cetera, et cetera. They can kind of pivot with their situation now. You don't want to be in a position where you have to trade a Dylan Larkin and an Ed Vinson. But if they play their cards right with these things, they can either start themselves off for a really intriguing rebuild, or they can position themselves to be like, you know what? One of the next two years, we actually are going to make the playoff. I think the point that has to be raised at this point, though, is you have an interim general manager, is the owner of the Detroit Redwings going to allow a guy who is not willing to give a permanent contract to in that role? It's going to allow them to trade to, I don't know if I want to call Ed Vinson like a franchise pillar, but two extremely important players to your franchise. You letting him take that swing? Red Sox let Ben Charrington and Jed Hoyer do it with Red Sox had one of the top prospects in baseball, Andy Marte, traded him for Coco Chris. By else think that was the same off season, they traded Hanley Ramirez, like, like a tippity top prospect in baseball for Josh Beckett. So it's happened before it's like a little crazy to me. My brain did go back to the Ed Vinson Quinn Hughes connection, because if you recall, the Redwings were unwilling to trade Ed Vinson in any deal that to get Quinn Hughes. Now they're unwilling to give Ed Vinson a reasonable contract. I did wonder, like, if you hold on to Ed Vinson, you get him on like some sort of deal or whatever. Like, is that like re-enter the picture? Because Minnesota obviously is trying to extend Quinn Hughes has not been able to do it, do not know where they stand with him. And like, if you end up getting into discussions where like you could possibly get a Larkin and an Ed Vinson in a deal that sends Quinn Hughes the other way, like, that'd be interesting. I also have seen people float out like three team trades that would send Nikkeeson to Detroit, would send hella buck to Carolina, and then Ed Vinson to Winnipeg, like all of that could be interesting. But if I'm the Redwings, I can't trade for a match, they need fewer problems, trading those guys and getting Quinn Hughes and contract questions with Quinn Hughes is a lateral dilemma. Well, I mean, I don't think they do it unless you have a sort of agreement from Quinn Hughes. But we've heard that Quinn Hughes wants to play in Detroit. I did want to play for them last year before shit hit the fan. But they weren't going to, but they weren't, well, why didn't they trade for him? Because they weren't willing to give up Ed Vinson. Because they weren't going to do it without an extension. Yeah, fair. Yeah. I know you're trying to solve their problems. I'm not trying to solve them, but thinking about it. And if I'm the Redwings, I'm probably, I'm, I'm not trying to trade Simon Ed Vinson. like shouldn't he's a guy who has unlocked your greatest asset to it.
a better degree, which is most cider. Like he's a great, great pairing guy for cider. He's also a really good player in his own right and you need those guys. Like you can resign this guy. I still think that they can resign him. For all the things that Ellie was saying, it just might be a case of he is pissed off right now as he should be because you're not giving him a good deal or not giving him even a reasonable deal, let cooler heads prevail and sign the fucking player. I think they had the opportunity to do that when they moved off of Steve Iserman and they had a window to say that was him. That's what he does. He is a pain in the ass with negotiations for young players. Ellie, I talked about it today on 32 thoughts, but now baby, it's me, Sean. It's me, Sean Horkoff. I'm going to set the precedent that I don't like my players pissed off and I want them on the ice, okay? They've wended Horkoff or wended Iserman's stepdown a month ago over that. There's a few months ago, yeah. Like, was it a few months ago? I think so. But it's to say a long ass time ago. Yeah, like if they had their time to do that and they haven't, so I think that Edvinson isn't just pissed at man, the last GM dicked me around. July 15th. Yeah, it's the last GM dicked me around. They got rid of him. And now the team is doing the same thing. So I get Elliott saying that things could change and they could if they give them a big contract. But if they haven't to this point and they finally do it, everyone's gonna be like, well, what the fuck took you so long? They're eating shit no matter what they do. I'm not opposed to them. If they can get something good for him, just saying, you know what, we fucked this all up. None of these people are gonna be here. We're gonna keep like two or three guys and let's just wash our hands of all this. Speaking of eating shit, do you have any opinions on the Dylan Larkin of it all from the home opener? Yep, credit to Dylan Larkin, credit to the fans at Little Caesar's Arena. If you don't know what we're talking about, Dylan Larkin did show up with the players who were not playing in the home opener and this happened. Number 54, Royal Linger. Getting absolutely bogged. (laughing) Not good for him. He requested a trade and I know that a lot of people are kind of coming around to the, you know what, I think I would have requested a trade too, thing with Dylan Larkin, but here requested a trade, everybody knows it. He is gonna take his medicine. Good for you. I'm not like happy for him that he's requested a trade. I am happy for people who are on hand at Little Caesar's Arena that they got to have that moment of, whether you wanna call it closure, even though he's still fucking there, or whatever sort of catharsis they got to experience, of like, hey, respectfully fuck you man, get out of here. I think it's all good. I don't, I'm not gonna give him too much credit. I think that it is quite literally like the baseline. If he had not shown up, obviously, that would have been more weasely and more cowardly, but all he did was show up, give a polite wave, and then immediately turn around. I guess he showed up to eat shit, he ate shit, and I think that he deserved to eat shit. I'm not giving him credit for that. But he would say, I think that he would say the same thing. He could have knocked on there and he's like, yeah, he went there because I think that these are the best fans in the world and they had the opportunity to blow a blow and I don't want to take that away from them because it's never been about the fans, et cetera, et cetera. Sure, he didn't take a step away. I don't think he took a step forward either. I, I give him credit because like hellbuck didn't show up, did he? He did not. I think in this situation, I wouldn't have expected him. Well, exactly. Like I, Larkin is making himself much more president than I would have. Yeah, well, the Capitol, he didn't go to the White House, I don't think, which by the way, I don't think I brought this up on the show. I don't think people realize this has not been awarded the Medal of Freedom, hasn't happened yet. Trump just said he was going to give from the Medal of Freedom, still has not gotten it, which I find hilarious. Now, this would run counter to other things Trump has promised. No, he's known for following through on promises. Okay, but he has not yet to follow through on this one. But still waiting on that. All Coke is Mexican Coke, then by the way, bloody. Oh, I forgot about that. That was the best thing he's ever promised. That was one of my worst moments on the show where I was like, folks, I have to say it. Trump has done something good. And the chat the whole time was like, but it's not, if you didn't see two seconds later, like Coca-Cola was like, no, that's not happening. And I was like, fuck, why did the one time I forgot to backcheck Trump? You got you got got got you got shown your vulnerability. But I'm giving like a touch of credit. Okay, fine, I'll do it myself. I'll allow a touch of credit. I think that it is not the worst thing that he could have possibly done optically in that situation. So if that requires me to give him a touch of credit, I will do it. I will say my one biggest takeaway from watching this was the poor guy who, I don't even remember who it was, who got introduced before him. Because it seemed very obvious to me that the little suzerina was not about to spend a second cheering that guy because they didn't, they a needed to be prepared for the booze. They didn't want, didn't want to do inlarkin to be confused for a second. Then again, that shit was for him. They were, they were like, nothing else matters. Got to catch their breath before they get these booze off. And they didn't know, like, who knows? Maybe they could, they weren't going to show him on the jumbo tron. Maybe the PA announcer was going to have a little frog in his throat. He says, I don't like it. Whatever they wanted to know. Like, yeah, when's the mother fuck coming to you? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. When's the mother fuck coming? I agree. Like Katie says absolutely disagree with the TNT panel that it was Bush league. It was not Bush league at all. No, not even close. Yeah, you know, yeah, you put that guy every time. I don't know if I actually, if I actually said that I was giving Larkin credit. And if I did, whatever I said at the beginning, I stand by and I will argue forever, whatever. But I just thought it was all super above board. Guy requests trade. Everybody finds out about it. He's like, well, Kat's out of the bag now. He's not playing in the game. He would have been introduced normally if he weren't playing in the game. So he's like, I'm still fucking here. This is what comes with making a decision that's gonna hurt some feelings. I'm not hiding from this. I don't think he's a fucking hero for it. But I also like don't hate, you're my Red Wings fans. Like, I don't hate Dylan Larkin for requesting a trade. Have I made fun of him a bunch of times for it? I hate the way he did it. I mean, I think that it's, I, I'm closer to hating him for requesting the trade than I am to not hating him for it. It's just the fucking, it's the way that he did it. It's the lack of accountability for any of Detroit's problems in the past. And just say, like, I want to win. We'll then be better, dude. - Be one of them, dude. - Like, it's the lack of accountability. It's the having a three team fucking trade list to the best contenders. It's just the front running bullshit. It's super easily. - Go down hell. - Exactly. - Sam, Sam, Sam, I pointed on the chat. Like, he's a Michigan guy too. - Right, that's his hometown team. It is, and it's like, it's bad. As much as, as I, you know, want to get mad at like Jack Ikel for requesting out of Buffalo, like, he's not a Buffalo guy. Buffalo was dogs. Buffalo is not a historic franchise in that sense. This is a Michigan guy and an original six team. Like, they have every right to hate that guy's guts from a sport, a fandom perspective. - Big time. - Oh, yeah. And I'll say, like, I hate the way that he handled it so much that I don't want him to be traded to my team. Like, my team needs centers. They need, like Dylan Larkin should be a perfect fit. I do not want Dylan Larkin on the Bruins because I don't like the way that he handled himself. I don't like the way that he is kind of, I think that he's kind of overrated to begin with in the way that the role that he's cast in Detroit. I don't want him on my team. I think so much less of him based off with the way that he's handled himself over the past like six, eight months. - Oh my God, Don, make the call. - No. - I would fucking love that now. Please. I'd take him. - He doesn't want to play for my team. It's been thrown out there that the Bruins are interested. He doesn't want to play for the Bruins because they're not one of the top five teams in the league. So number one, I don't like him and I don't want him because of the shit that he's done over the last eight months. And number two, I don't want guys on my team that don't want to play for my team. So not interested. - Look, I'm not throwing a parade for Dylan Larkin and I'm definitely not throwing a, like, whoa is Dylan Larkin thing, to our knowledge, he's like, yeah, fuck, I get it. The fact that he was there at least says that he gets it, but he, it's, I can't imagine it's easy to do what he's done. Again, please don't take this as like, it's all okay what he's done, but to be like, I'm in a bad situation that on paper looks amazing and I'm gonna say, like, fuck, sorry, hometown fans, sorry family who likes to come see me play every night. This isn't good for me, again, to then say, so I would like to be on one of these two or three teams, like, right here with that, but he did something that's fucking hard in a, in a time of player empowerment when people are like, hey, you know what, do what's best for you or whatever. He's fucking doing it knowing that he is getting Don't block every step you take. It's the trade request.
West isn't get me out of this situation. It is get me to a team that is like a top three team in the NHL. That's where I say it. That's where I say fuck off. So no, I get if you want to like package it all together, I don't have a problem with him requesting a trade. I think that the way that he did it is, as we've all said, weasily and is going to get him all sorts of shit. I mean, he's fucking around and he's finding out. Yeah. How jealous do you think he is of Zach Ruinsky that Zach may or may not have requested a trade privately, but he there was a little bit of like a plausible liability still and he got to put out a letter being like, I didn't mean any of that shit. I want to be here because like, do you think right now, Dylan Marken would take any of it back? I mean, he's hasn't taken the trade request. Yeah. I like the request necessarily. I mean, the fact that he's since he's standing in his right, he would be like, he's kind of I like to be traded the, I'd like to be traded the old fashioned way folks. I'd like to I'd like to be traded even more. I'm even willing to accept a top five team instead of a top three team. I that really is like the difference I feel like in how people are treating him and and Halibuk is like, yes, at least seemingly is like, I'll go anywhere as long as it's in the United States and also I can win. Yeah, he had the, and this is where he's kind of chunked it. And if he thought about it, um, he could have had some media people do his bidding or whatever. Make it about, iserman. Make it about ownership. Make it about the murky situation that management has created there where you're like, even me, the hometown key, even I think that this just does not work and I got to get out of here. The fact that it was accompanied with, I'd like to go to the three places, that's where no one can understand where you're coming from. But people, if you've watched the last fucking week of the Red Wings, aren't you like, I could see why someone would want out of this. I'm always the captain. The captain of that team and it's supposed to be part of the solution. Right again. Yeah, like he's supposed to have a solution. And like that's part of the reason another layer of the Halibuk thing is like, I don't think anybody can really truly accuse Halibuk of not being part of the solution for the jets. Like has you fallen apart in the playoffs and had that, that sort of stink attached to him. Absolutely. But the guy has dragged that team to the playoffs for like a couple of times, like and brought them to better results than they've probably deserved based off of the team in front of them. And Larkin, you cannot say the same thing. Larkin last year had what? Like how many five on five points did he have or the final six months of the season? He was not part of the solution. He was going through a lot. He was figuring out how to request a trade. Yes. There was a lot on his mind. Other teams games to see what he was, uh, he was, uh, fuck. What are they? Uh, I don't know if there's a term for this, but there's a thing where like people, uh, mourn the relationship as it's happening. He was doing that. He was going through a breakup that nobody knew about. Yeah. So poor guy Dylan Larkin. Okay. So Pete's very sad for Dylan Larkin. Uh, I was kind of sad for the sabers as they lost their season opener, but I really wasn't because unlike other years, when the sabers lose their first game of the season, I don't think, Oh no, I got to check on Sean. What's ha, like we should have. We've entered. Sorry, buddy. We've entered so many seasons where the team I've been most excited to watch in the first week of the season is Buffalo sabers because we say every year, if it's not this year, it can, it can be next year. And last year it finally was that year, even though they were asked to begin the season. So we can see them be asked and know that everything can be okay. So as I saw them lose the opener, I was mainly thinking, God, blue jackets and your fans, you needed this. You needed to hear that cannon and you needed to see that boy 89. I don't know. I did not know who that man was, but that boy 89 on the blue jackets. Pretty good. Pretty good. I mean, I don't think that someone, we all knew that I'm kidding. Like we all knew that could not have debuted better talking about Matthew Nies. That was that rock to watch. And Sean, I know a little bit of you thought it too. Oh, yeah. I mean, like I'm, you know, I have a soft spot for any Arizona boys. So like, I've always, I've always liked him. But yeah, that made it worse. That made it. I was, it was like a scar, just stopping on my right hand and throwing me into the the valley of stampeding will the beast. Like I, it hurts more because he used, I held him close to my heart at a point. Yeah, I got rocks like Pete said, long live the kid. But also, also like, did we know that? Like I knew he, like we knew he rocked, but this is different than him rocking on a line with Austin Matthews, all due respect to Adam Fentilly. Yeah, like I consider him a complimentary player. I don't know if like one or two games is going to change that, but I mean, when he is complimentary or when he is on, he is an awesome player. And it's a player that I would say may, might be more valuable to the blue jacket. It's based off of the energy that he brings. And like the, the way that they're trying to change the culture, like I feel like blue jackets are probably pretty happy with the trade and what they got back knowing that Marchenko just didn't want to be there and doesn't have the same sort of, I don't vibe energy approach as as Matthew Nies does. Exactly. I thought that, I mean, I said when they made the trade, we all felt that we none of us saw them getting a single piece as good as Matthew Nies back when they traded Karl Marchenko. And that was just us not being prepared shut out the Lion King for what Woodell had up his sleeve. And good start for the blue jackets. Not a great start for the sabers until their home opener where they beat the black hocks four to three. Bowen Byron unfortunately wasn't there, but I'll tell you what was an Atlantic division champ's banner hanging in key bank center. Normally you would think, why does that matter? Who cares about those? It matters because this summer, we famously had a fight about it. Sean roll the clip. I need confirmation whether or not the sabers are having a banner night. A banner night. Sean, what do you think happened? Division champions. They have division champion banners. You're, yeah, but you put that shit up in the night. Yeah, that shit happens like in the dark. You expect me to fucking know that? Amazing clip. Love that interaction. Sean took some victory laps because the banner was there over the weekend. Oh, well, what did you tweet, Sean? You tweeted, I was laughed at when I brought up a banner. And I was biting my tongue. I was trying to see if we could make it to Monday. Pete came in with the utmost fucking truth, which is, this is not true. You were laughed at when you brought up having a banner night. And Pete, did you see a banner night? I saw a banner. I saw a banner. None of us put up in the night. None of us denied or doubted the existence of a banner. Sean, hand up. I will. So that I will, I will put my hand up on that in terms of the tweet there. I agree that you did not laugh at me for suggesting there would be a banner. You laughed at me for suggesting there would be some kind of event surrounding the banner. And what was not in that clip, by the way, was me going on to say that I was not talking about like a Stanley Cup style. We all gather around at center rice and watch the banner get lifted to the rafters like they did in Carolina. That was not my suggestion. My suggesting was that they would, they would have, like I said, some sort of event around it, some sort of acknowledgement. You said it would be put up in the dark. And as you as, uh, which I guess maybe probably wasn't put up in the dark, and you'd like to put it up, but when they showed it off, that's a spotlight, baby. They put out, they put, they made that the brightest spot in the arena. And as our friend, uh, and, and one of my shooters in this scenario, Evan Spore pointed out, um, they gave out banners. They gave out many banners. Like it was an event. It was a banner night. It was, it was a game with a giveaway. That is not what was a give a banner night. What was the giveaway? The giveaway was many banners. That's fun. What do they do before? There's a fundamental new understanding of the term banner night. Yes. I think that we're doing multiple definitions of banner night, which I will give you as a friend. If you want to say there's a secondary banner night, the way that you have bobblehead night or bat night, sure, knock yourself out. But I've been to some banner nights. And I'm using the first definition, the primary definition, which is a night in which a banner is raised for all to see. There is the, uh, in my mind, the term banner night has to, the primary function of a banner night is the raising of a banner. And that includes Jersey ceremonies. It includes obviously championship celebrations. If you are having a banner night, the banner needs to be raised inside. Well, that is, uh, when you find me the, the, the, the dictionary that has that specific definition written out, then, then maybe I'll, I'll bend the knee there, but otherwise we're living in a gray area. And the fact of the matter is it was a night in which they spent time to focus on the banner. It's so, so much so that they gave everyone in attendance, many, many banners. So I think reasonably, most people could define
that as a banner night. I'm not giving any ground here. Sean, I see where you're coming from, but I'm not giving any ground. If there's some pizza in your fridge and it stays in the fridge and you don't eat it, is that, did you have a pizza night? Is that pizza night? Or is there just pizza in your house? If I decide to eat that pizza, if I decide to make the event of my night eating that pizza, then I had a pizza night. Yes, but they didn't do that. They didn't do that. They pointed out that they took time to put a spotlight on the banner and said, everyone look at our brand new banner because look what we did last year, which nobody else on the fucking league did fact, not a single other team in the league won the Atlantic division. The fucking Kings put a spotlight on you at a game. Did they have a shot? I did. But that wasn't a shot. No, because the difference is, first off, they didn't put a spotlight on me. The house lights were up. Secondly, they did it at a point. What's that? I said humiliated. Turn those lights off. The jumbo tron was on me. I'll say that or I was on the jumbo tron more accurately. But that was at a time when they're like, for the people who aren't getting up to wait in line for the bathroom. Here's a little intermission show for you. You can watch this guy ride around as they hook a wave at you. Thank you. Thank you. Not the same thing at all. Pizza. The pizza thing didn't didn't play. Yeah, I lost a minute. I lost a mini pizza. Lost me a little bit on the pizza thing. The thing was there and they didn't do the thing with it. But the thing was there. Therefore, it's a thing night. No, it's not. I just know. If I took the pizza out of the fridge and was like, we're going to we're going to we're going to take a moment. We're going to celebrate the fact that I'm not going to eat it. Now we're going to put it back in the fridge. That's it. We're going to hang it. We're going to pin it to the fucking wall. I give a nail in it. I'm going to pin it to the wall. We're like so mad at what we're spending there. It was pinning the wall. It was pinned to the wall. They took it out of the wall. They said, Hey, Pete, you see there's pizza over there. And he said, wow, there really is pizza was once made and then goes on with this night. You know, last night, Pete, uh, pretty, pretty low key. Oh, had pizza night did. Yeah. There's someone did show me pizza. Yeah. I just chat is is like it sounds like the chats more in Sean's favor, but I think there are always going to happen. They're not all on your side. No, we got some shooters too. So I just think you can have a banner night. And this was back to the, the reaction to the, to the original clip. Like you can have a banner night if the banner is not being raised. I disagree. No, also just the victory lap was unnecessary on your part because you know where we're coming from. You knew where we were coming from. You should have known where I was coming from. Yeah. I knew that you were, the banner night was going to, it was going to be raised. You never once in the original clip, push back or the original segment push back against your definition of a, of a banner. Well, so not in that clip, but in the conversation we had during the show, I like I said earlier, I went on to explain that I wasn't talking about a Stanley cup style celebration where they raised the banner. We all gather around. I was saying that they would take time to acknowledge it and make it a centerpiece of the opening night, which they did by giving everybody who came mini banners, which are now being sold on Facebook marketplace for $35 a piece. Danny Quinn has the best contribution to the chat in the last five minutes, which is the only solution here is what chaos pizza night. I'll say to our dear friend, Evan, I'll handle the, the analogies around here. He says he said, if you own a bunch of movies and decide to watch one of them, then it's a movie night. But you didn't fucking watch the movie. You didn't take out the movie and put it in the thing. There was no movement of the movie. It's fucking stay there. And you said, Hey, did you know that I own there will be blood on VHS? Wow. Cool movie night. Shut the fuck up everybody. It's all we can say team Sean. I'm team Sean on a lot of things, but it was not a banner night. It was not a banner. Or it was it was a second definition of banner night, which is a better celebration. Where banners are given out, I will give that to you, but I cannot in good conscience say that any sort of banner was raised because it simply wasn't elsewhere in the Sabers and in Sean's heart. The team announced over the weekend that because there is now an umlaut on Noah Osslan's jersey, if you go to the team store with your own Noah Osslan jersey, they will add an umlaut for you. And that is some shit we can all get on. Okay, that's good. I don't know. I'm not the kind of person that takes, you know, but I feel like I did this. And see, by the way, see they raise an umlaut onto the jersey. You could say they had an umlaut night when they made this every night. You see the difference. The jersey is there now pre-made with umlauts. They're not having an umlaut night. I'm done. Noah Osslan, big umlaut or AKA big umlaut. That's what I'm calling them now. And also I tweeted that at one point I said, shout out big umlaut and people, I think took it to me that I was referring to like big umlaut as in the industry, like like a big whatever, big oil, big, big whatever. I also like that. I like to think that there's a umlaut industry behind this. But yeah, I mean, I don't know why they never, they ever did it. Why not have umlauts? I mean, my favorite part of the, the Osslan Umlaut is that the, it just looks like a huge shocked face. Is the two eyes above the oh and oh, it's just the, the, here you go, the gaping mouth. Oh, yeah, it's the game that Tim Robinson is playing the future gaping. It's why I said, here you, here you go. I was like, I was like, you, you, you have a print. So you look, it's all shocked face. Yeah, pretty good. I mean, I'm not shocked that these sabers and specifically that team store did something cool and fun. That's a, yeah, that's a good team store. It's a cool and fun team. Period. Shout out, uh, Levi, right? I got Levi. Devon? No. From the sabers team store. Our guy Levi, absolutely rocks. Uh, because the Sabers won that game against the Blackhawks, we got the Sabers new victory cigar, which is kind of an old victory cigar because it is a sword. Wow, unsheathed baby, unsheathed, unsheathed, unsheathed me. Come on, pull it on, do it. Yeah, wait for a second. They have to yell at, uh, Yuri, believe it. Shout out that guy. Welcome back. Yuri, come on. What is this game? But now brother, there it is. Oh, that's so good. Now I need you to watch in the background. Look at Alex. Look at it. He's like, oh, the second I play, he hasn't played yet, but he's like, get me out there. I am getting a shout out and getting that thing. So good. Yes. Uh, I just, with this be the first victory cigar to be retired, like unceremoniously twice in back-to-back seasons for, uh, for player safety. Well, depending on how our man performs with it, or if they just ever give it to him, Sean, give us the Alex line last year. If there's any, uh, new viewers last year, Alex lion was absolutely dangerous with this. They took it away after we had Michael Kusoring on the show shortly after, and we asked him, hey, like, so what's going on with the sword? And he was like, oh, we don't use it anymore. We had to switch to a belt because Alex line was a maniac with it. Love it to consider Alex lion's currently day-to-day. He hasn't played yet. Uh, it looks like, uh, Colin Ellis is getting the next start. So maybe that's why because they know he's not particularly close to touching that sword. So they're just going to do it for the first few weeks of the season again and then take it away. Uh, maybe Pete, you wanted to check in on some other victory cigars, uh, as a result of this. No, nothing is going to beat the sword. I have seen there's a trend that's going on and I don't fucking like it. All right. Present that to me first because there's only one that I really care about and we'll get to that last. Okay. Uh, we'll start with the first place we saw this, which was the Edmonton Oilers doing a Wayne Gretzky helmet. Let me see it. Let me see it, Sean. Clear of the game. We wanted something that connects our rich history of winning this organization. They set the standard for us to fill that and do what we want to do and finish off with what they started. So this is an original grants bucket. It's going to Mikey tonight. First of many times you'll hear only like this is name on today's show. Without even knowing anything else about it, I was like, yeah, it's kind of lame. It's, it's a little, I, I still think the this year's Oilers team doff insists it's different too much. It's up living in the past. Like everything serious, everything's that everything is oilers related and everything like I outsource your fucking goal songs. Be a little weird with it. Don't be so, God, like Babcock about everything. Oh, that was kind of lame, but you know, it's the Oilers and Wayne Gretzky. So it's not shocking. Doc's doing the same thing. Hit me, Sean.
tonight. Everyone we have a new little price here. Old Mighty Docs team here teams. Landies helmet and a nice little bubble here. Bubble is kind of cool. At least that's good. The bubble I thought that was going to be like original Mighty Docs like from the movie. That would have been sick. Movie prop would have been sick. The visual of a hockey player celebrating something by putting on a hockey helmet is so lame. That is true. It does take a lot of the whimsy out of it. It's like, okay, here's a here's a suit to wear to celebrate being employee of the month. And it's just the NHL that the oilers would make it would ruin it and that the rest of the league would then say, Oh, well, they're onto something there. And they start doing it. Like you're the fucking ducks. You have Ben Afquac. You know how fun you are. There are still some cool young guys on your team. Well, I think what makes it go ahead. I was going to say what makes it worse is like there's there's no way that they actually stole this from the oilers. Like they both were just separately uncreative. Yes, which is worse to me. That's like when I make a joke and then refresh my Twitter feed and other people have made the joke, I delete my tweets because that's not it's bad independent thinking and my independent thinking has brought me to a place where everybody else is chat says use Mickey Mouse ears. That would be fucking getting Mickey ears would rock. I mean, Disneyland is sponsor. They'd fucking. Oh, they're on the helmet. They're the helmet sponsor this year. That would be pretty incredible. I'm going to Disneyland soon. I didn't even think about it. I might get some ears. I believe it might pop those things on and just let it ride. This is tough for me because I brought my submission and now the lack of creativity for these past two teams with the helmet has made me like this submission was even more. So let's present the Carolina hurricanes in their victory cigar. It's a fucking rock. It is just a rock and it is presented with it's a rock. I mean, they saw how much a cinder block did for them the last hour of many years. Look at that guy checking out his rock. Yeah, it's like looking in a mirror. I'll just say, I hope seems like a rock. It was probably his idea. Shout out episode six. I want to say of season two of the paper. Somebody gives mayor a fucking rock. And it stinks. It's a fucking rock. I kind of like it. I love it. I like filling people in though. What the best was the best part is like, you know, kind of throwing caution to the wind there. I just throw on a rock at your star player. Like you better. Better than throwing a sword. Yeah, definitely better than throwing the store, but they didn't throw the sword. If the you better hope he catches that properly. The last thing you need is ajo jam and a finger or something or dropping on his toe. I just I just thought of something. I mean, rocks beat scissors. So do rocks beat swords? No, if only if only the sabers had scored in game seven overtime, we could have found out. I don't think so. I think that if I have a rock and I'm going up against somebody with the sword, I'm trying to assuming this person as a man, I'm trying to just absolutely crush the guy's penis with a snipe and then tackle them. But otherwise, I think they're killing me with the sword. I mean, I think that the only time that this sword has beaten a rock or I was going to say King Arthur. I was. I was just going to bring up was like the rock kind of owns that shit. Like quite literally the rock decides when you get the sword. Otherwise, the rocks got that sword where it wants it. It's an interesting canundrum. Does rock. I think I'm with you. I think rock. I think rock beats because the reality is if you just start striking a sword or striking a rock with a sword, like that sword is going to is going to give up before the rock does. I'll tell you what, you know, what I would make my goal song I personalized goal song like a rock. No, I want a rock by twisted sister. I know that they're saying I want to rock, but that would be my signal to the rest of the team. Like, I want this fucking rock. I'm coming with more after this. I want that fucking rock. God damn, I like the rock so much. Yeah. Yeah. I like the rock way more than I thought I'd like to rock. We're sending the rock to Hollywood. Big pro rock. Yeah. All three of us. We like the rock. You're going to Hollywood rock. If who's like the, who's the youngest player on the Canes? Like if, if Jackson Blake gets player of the game, do we call him Kid Rock? Hmm. Hmm. We'll call him like 1990s Kid Rock, where there are real, they're rebellious and not problematic. What the fuck you era, Kid Rock? The fuck you era. Exactly. If fuck off. I'm sorry. Fuck off is the title of that absolute classic. And I will say there are some very good songs on, on devil without a cause. Bob Dubovs is the devil's chandelier class bottle. I think if the devil's had any sense of humor, which haven't seen it, they should have like plastic spork for being their, their victory cigar. Did they have like, mean, did they explain why it's a rock? I know that they said it is a rock, which is important information. But did they say why it's a rock? Did they give any sort of thing like they did with the Cinder block press where they were like, this is because blue collar people go like this with Cinder blocks, whatever bullshit it was. Did they say a reason why they needed to give each other rocks after games? Rock you like a hurricane would go crazy. No, no, but again, you're saying like, I want the rock. Yeah. Yeah. Rock to rock. Somebody has nothing to do with that rock. But it still would rock as a goal song. Yeah. If you want to get rock stuff in there, but I would be making it about getting the rock. I think the most, I haven't seen the reasoning behind the rock, but I would think that the most likely outcome is that Tom Dundin is cheap. It was like, yep. El, El Chippo, isn't it? El Chippo. El Chippo spent a lot of money on, on, on Stanley Cooperings this summer, rock celebration up to his old tricks. Do we have any other victory cigars, the National Predators have like a racing helmet. Yeah. Which is cool in a hockey helmet. Yeah. Still, yeah. I would say if you're doing helmets like space helmet would be sweet. The hockey, which they kind of ran into with the racing mask helmet is that you, you want the guys to give their speeches while they're wearing them. And doesn't really play as well if you're wearing. Oh, true. There's no opening. And depending on what the hair situation is famously on one of, uh, in syncs tours, they had, I think they were like biker helmets. They would walk out in and they had to cut Chris Kirkpatrick's to shit because his fucking crazy ass braids didn't fit in there. And Justin Timberlake had to like attack that fucking thing to get it on. So it could be difficult if your players with any sort of interesting hair. Um, all right. Let's check in on, you said Levi, check in on Devon Levi and penguins have a welding helmet, which I really like. Yeah. That's good. Right on steel city. Very, the wild has a puck now. Come on. Pock is something that you can do in addition to everything else. And also don't teams usually do or not usually, but some teams would do multiple things. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The Oilers famously had the hat and the painters and the painter and the plumber. Yeah. Those are go. How did you go from fucking Mike Babcock? God damn it. Um, all right. Oilers are two. Oh, and one game one, Tristan Jari allowed six goals game to Devon Levi allowed seven goals. So I was shocked on Saturday when the Oilers announced Devon Levi would be getting the net for game three. You know how much you have to fucking hate Tristan Jari to not say to not do the fucking thing in Whiplash where he's like, you know what, we're just going to stay here all night rotating through these dipshits until somebody shows me they can play this fucking part. Give me the double time swing. Two games. Neither drummer could do it. Imagine Whiplash. If after two drummers tried it, he was like, fine. You're both assholes. Second guy. You get it. Where's the fun in that? They go back to Devon Levi and two is credit. Parison is very funny because, uh, uh, what's his name's character? It's very very forward, very forward. Was his name Fletcher? Yeah. Whiplash direct. Oh, no, it's going to say Damien Chazelle, but the band's director, uh, Terrence Fletcher. Very good. Dave. Uh, yeah. Devon Levi gets the net, which is again, if you are a Tristan Jari fan, what the hell? But if you are, that's sending off setting off all sorts of alarms of like, oh my God, they pulled the plug on this guy for somebody who kind of played worse than him. Numbers wise was worse in game two. Still one, but give up seven goals to Tristan Jari's six. Yeah, at least, at least Levi made a few saves. Yeah. Levi had some moments in that first period, but gets the win.
Allows one goal and it's a 3-1 victory over the Kraken and that sets up this from Mike Babcock to begin his press conference. Didn't give up a touchdown. Had you seen that? No, I hadn't. Okay, he can get you. He's. Okay, God damn it. Uh, I'll, I'll give him that one. Shall you give him that one? I mean. How can you not? If I'm the Kraken, I'm like, we lost to that. We lost to a team that just celebrated. They did not allow six plus goals. Good one, Mike Babcock. We still got our eyes on you. We don't like some of the shit that you've done in the past. Uh, I have to say on Mike Babcock, Owen Michaels, who is an undrafted free agent, 24 years old from Michigan state has two goals in three games. I fear that Babcock, we all would know the type that Babcock doesn't like and he's abusive to players and he's horrible, et cetera, et cetera. But a thing about Mike Babcock is he finds the Pixar guy and it was Luke Glenn Denning in Detroit that he was like, this fucking college rando is my guy. I'm going to make him an important bottom sixer. I'm going to play him against people. He's got no business playing against and he's going to be fucking good. And teams would play the red wings and when Luke Glenn Denning got on the ice, the opposing coach would freak the fuck out because they're like, there's something about this. He must know something about this guy. He must be good. That's Owen Michaels. And I don't know if that means Owen Michaels is actually good, but he's been good so far. And I had no fucking clue who that guy was a few weeks ago. It's just so Mike Babcock, he has his guy. So Owen Michaels, I might get his jersey because an oiler's jersey that says Michael's could suggest I'm just supporting Jack and who doesn't want to support Jack. Speaking of guys that we did not know about two weeks ago, shout out to Tristan Luno getting the bag from the Anaheim ducks. And like I tweeted about it and it was truly genuinely not meant to be disrespect. And I was like out of a place of just like, I have taken no pride in this. But I had never heard of this guy and like part of that is lack of ball knowledge. Part of that is just like I don't pay attention to juniors, all that much. I don't pay attention to like hockey candidates training camps. But Tristan Luno came out of nowhere, got the bag and is playing a significant role. And I'm very excited to watch this guy this year because he's getting. He's on the top pair with Jackson LeComb and he looks good. Shout out to Tristan Luno, I apologize for not knowing you and shout out to the ducks. They look good so far. Yeah, they blew that shit. I mean, they went to overtime, but that's just set up the coolest overtime any of us have ever seen. Still a fun team. Yeah, I mean, they're doing the, they're doing the, the oilers thing at Texas last night. They're doing the oilers post PK thing where when they kill a penalty, they're throwing their top dogs out there with Leo Cutter and Beckett, Seneca, that shit rocks. The ducks are still fun and maybe like the, the claims of their defensive demise were a bit overblown without knowing Tristan Luno. I find out because when we talked about the ducks having nobody on defense, we never said Tristan Luno is named so that that's an important thing to Luno. Yes, Sean 2026 is the year of discovering Anaheim Ducks. We've never fucking heard of. I know. Right. That's not even the first one. I know it's shut out Tim Washi. I looked it up because I wasn't sure already has a point, which is he had six and 43 games last year. He's averaging four more minutes per game and Tom on ice. So it's the, it might be the year of Tim Washi also. The Anaheim Ducks had the first black kebab, a defensive pair in NHL history over the weekend with Tyson Heins and Noah Warren. Shout out my amhand. So when people said the ducks don't have any defenseman, we can hit them with a, what do you mean by that? We try to say, just say it. Good thing that we didn't say that all summer. Yeah, to people who say the ducks don't have defenseman, just, right. Fucking say you're racist. Ryan Krasz is Washi Benaround. Yeah, but we didn't know him. Yeah, but we also Luno is also from Quebec. So we could just say that we are a Francophobic. There you go. That's way less problem. That way more acceptable. Also, I'm, I'm, I don't know if I can say that like I never left the ducks station, but I'm still, I'm still at the station. Uh, you left the dog. I left the station. Yeah, you left the station, but I think there was a way over the kick me out of the tracks. Yeah. Uh, he just got back onto the train. Also, like as proof for this whole, hey, they have more defenseman than we thought they haven't allowed a bunch of goals in a game. They've, they allowed two goals last night to the Panthers who have a lot of guys who can score. One of whom was returning in Brad Marshall and did score and they allowed three goals on the road in Vegas. And Dorothea isn't there anymore, but Vegas can pump in goals. So so far through two games that ducks just look good. Shout out them while we're, uh, shouting out, uh, like darling teams, sharks, over time, just let's just fucking do it. They love it. Uh, can we see the key for Sherwood moment of the weekend? Oh, yeah. That was cool. Sean, do you have that? Yeah. I mean, this is like a high steel snipe and then the best. There's my angry guy. Get out, get the fuck out of here. He's the best. How do you not love that guy? The max patch already love the score and fuck out here loser. The newly signed Sherwood athlete, yes. And I will shout out to our guy, Evan, did you see the, the Sherwood deal? No, but I know that he has a, uh, a Sherwood stick that says key for in Sherwood lettering. Yeah. Very good. I mean, he's got a stick that says key for he's got gloves that say Sherwood. It's so good. What's the goal? It would be pretty awesome. If he was like, you know, if this was like, like I'll do respect to keep a Sherwood. This was like Mac and celebrating. He'd probably have like cost up like everything would take key for like if he had gloves, it's a key for him. It would be pretty flocking to that. It feels like you would be a uniform violation. I mean, it's not on the stick. It's the like, why would the case? I don't know where they would draw the line there. Yeah. I mean, they and I shall probably would ruin something that fun. But that's a nominative determinism. Sure. Yeah. You know what that is? Yeah. I think that shit is so cool. I he was named after a hockey brand. So it was going to be a boy. So like, yeah, your name decides a name decides things that happen in your life. Like that shit for you, sir. Like Jerry Seinfeld had a joke back in the day. It was just like, got to wonder what parents are thinking their kids will be when they name them jeez, meaning like that's person's going to be a Butler. Yeah, shout out. Keeper Sherwood, shout out the Sherwood brand and nominative determinism. Shout out the ducks, though. Really, what I also like to shout out a couple of Vancouver connox while we're at it. EP 40, man, someone in the chat said, uh, talk about that. I will happily talk about that, throw in the body around. Throw in the body around and throw in the puck in the net. Yes. Well, first two games of the season were, uh, touchdown games. This is a free space. Yeah, they were kind of free space. But I, I said after the first game, I was like, I really liked how, uh, how better? I mean, he's got a point in each of the first four games, even the ones where they don't play the Oilers. He's tied for third and league and points. Hey, every comeback has to start somewhere. There's got to be a first page of the chapter. If it comes against the Oilers, I still think it counts as a first page. And then another conknuck that I want to shout out, Paul Carter, on pace for 84 goals to season. Yeah, love Paul Carter. Shout out, shout him out. He's got a previous career, high of 16 goals. So 84, I say he does it. Yes. Uh, while we're shouting out players, we don't have like a full ass graphic for it today, but an early season check in on Sai Young. Do you know who your Sai Young leader is right now? And that is players whose stat lines, goals and assists looks like a good pitching record. I'll tell you who it's not, who Egor Shastirken, because that guy's getting assists as well. Yeah, no, not it would have been a lot of fun, but no. Is Paul Carter on there? Uh, Paul Carter has too many points. I mean, his sister's Paul Carter have, I mean, the connox is just scoring a bunch of goals. So Paul Carter has two assists. Okay. Uh, no, who do we got? Nick Schmaltz has four goals and zero assists. Right. You're looking at Caril Caprizov and Ali Tolvenin at three and a, I absolutely love that for Ali. Uh, and then there's a bunch of guys that are two and a, including a two loasterainen, Alex Tuck, Nick Robertson, Jack Quinn, JJ Paturka, something called a JJ Paturka, Bobby McMahon, Mackie Samiskevich, who I think is hurt right now, which is, uh, a little disappointing. Also, uh, Owen Michaels and Dallabor Davorsky on the list. So some fun names. So far, Nick Schmaltz leading the way I want, uh, I'd rather like Ali Tolvenin be leading the way right now. It's way funnier. Yeah. Uh, but, you know, if these guys are going to start getting assists. So Igor, start being a little more selfless and you can get back on the list. Uh, the Philadelphia Flyers, as I mentioned, have not won a game that
season. They got their asses kicked in the opener against the penguins. That was at home. And then they've lost back to back overtime games. But Travis Kineckney did do this Saturday against the hurricanes. Two minute minor, okay, terrific. Terrific. Are you fucking not agreeing with that call? Pretty good. I just love when commentators have to address somebody doing something and they can't say themselves like that. TK not very happy with that one. Oh, apparently, Mackie Samiskevich returned and scored both of his goals last night. Okay. Oh yeah. There you go. Let me see. Is that true? I just I just raw dogged it off the chat. I should check if it's true before I say it. Yeah. He scored two goals against the Calgary Flames who are off to not the best start. They're all three at L. They, let's see, I mean, they've gotten blown out in all their games so far. Closest game they played was a four to one loss to the conucks who in fairness, conucks are pretty feisty this year. They're they're a tough out, but the crack and lit them up six to one twice. You know what? I mean, it's bad. It's bad on our part that we didn't know that, but I will give you credit. Like I'd be more worried that you did know that Mackie Samiskevich scored both goals in a crack and verse flames game because that meant that you watched a crack and versus flames game. Respectfully, if you're watching, if you're watching many more games and this would be many because percentage wise, it's only a few games so far this season. If you're watching many more Kraken games, then are played against your team. You're kind of being ridiculous. And I'm not saying don't do it, but you're being a little ridiculous with it. Listen, I don't like the energy you're bringing because that's putting it all on the on the on the Kraken. Like it's a Kraken's flames game that really is what is bad behavior. I would like if at the beginning of the season, we spun a wheel of teams that, you know, might not get a lot of national recognition given where they are right now. And each of us had a team that we had to keep tabs on. Like I do keep tabs on the Kraken on the Kraken. Sorry, you have to keep tabs on, I don't know, like maybe the flames something like that, you got to keep tabs on the Bruins. Yeah. That's how I became a bruerist guy because one year, my friend and I, who was the Yankees fan, I'm in Red Sox fan, we wanted a team to watch together. So I mean, when I'm gonna be the show and randomize teams, we got, we randomized three and got to pick from one of them. So we became big bruer's guys in like 2015. Don't remember anything about them. So maybe it didn't work quite as well as I wanted it to, but I do like having a little side team. Who would be another, it's just like a shocking amount of Seattle people in the chat who still listen to this show for some reason. I like the name that they came up with. We should do this. Track in the Kraken. Track in the Kraken. How about let's just all split the Kraken and we can trade off custody like week to week. We're just like, hey, let me know it's custody. It's time for, oh my god, I'm gonna hit up the ringer business people after this and be like, we have a segment we need sponsorship for. Track in the Kraken and we can have like a local car dealership in Seattle. Track in the Kraken. I just hate that this has become like the nobody wants to watch the Kraken thing, which like I don't disagree with, but part of the original point was that half of that responsibility belongs to the Calgary Flames who are straight up ass. Can everybody knows it? Can we do, actually, I'm going to give, I'm going to set up our first track in the Kraken of the year. Sean, can you please find Philip Grubauer's new mask? Have you seen it? No, I have not. It is fucking good. Let me, I mean, I can send you a picture of it now, but I'm sure that if you use that sweet, sweet, getty subscription, you'll find some fun picks of him. I saw I saw a really good photographic this morning if we're if we're required to say nice things about the Kraken. I did see a really fun quote graphic this morning that was Joey DeCord and it said, I love when the my favorite thing in the world is when the crowd chance Joey and the thing under it was Joey DeCord on when the crowd chance Joey tell him fill us it. Clue us in on what he's talking about when he says that there. So we will be tracking the Kraken. I like that. I do. Sean, did you get the clip from the rundown? I did have like an older Kraken clip in there that I was going to be squeezed out of the show. All right. Let's do a I forget who even scored the goal. I'll be able to see if I look at the rundown right now. The Kraken posted this goal with, let's see, uh, watching this Stevie goal on repeat with a like, oh my God. Imagine Stevie on the Sabers kind of emoji. Hit me, Sean. Just over three minutes gone in this third period, three nothing Seattle. Then it's done. Chandler Steven said, that was pretty sick. Now is it? Now a guy fell down. Two guys fell down. A guy fell down and he jumped over him, which is pretty cool. Yeah, rule of cool. It was sweet. I get why they be watching it on repeat. A goal was scored tracking the Kraken, but like, it wasn't. I mean, they, they had a goal to score that day. We have a show to do today. They don't, they can't help but they're playing the Calgary flames and those guys can't stand up. Those clumsy, clumsy flames. It's all about how you respond to what's in front of you. Slip in and slide and all over the ice. I think Sean's working on the group hour mask. Pete, it is fucking good. I think what do you? I mean, what else are fucking Kraken? Well, I'm saying like they scored a goal. So if I'm a Kraken fan, I'm watching that shit on repeat had exploding emoji. What do you think is going through Dustin Wolf's head in that scenario? Because like, do you think he has time to realize like, oh, these fucking assholes, like they're, they're just like, you don't, whenever you, you end in a situation like that, you don't expect your defenseman to just literally fall over. Well, that's not ball knowledge. You're on the flames, brother. Sooner you come in with it. Got expected better, better, you could put, you know, what they say, playing in the AHL or for the flames is harder than playing in the NHL because there's more madness going on in front of you. Dustin Wolf, by the way, he of 12 goals against in two games. That's good for a seven, nine, seven goalie efficiency rating. Not much better is Devon Cooley, who has allowed, what do you want him to do? Devon Cooley allowed three goals in a game. That's actually a lot better, I would say, and he's got an 880 clip. Look at this mask for Philip Groobauer. It is amazing. And then on the other side of it, Pete, it's like a sort of inverted type thing. Yeah, it's like it's like navy. Yeah, there's like a slate or like a navy thing going on. This is one of my favorite masks. Yeah, that's cool. Of the season. We're not seeing any penises so far, but we're only looking at one side of it. Doing like a two-faced kind of like that. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Like go a little, like having a different mass pen, which like is then it also looks sick with whatever jersey you have. Like you just be like, this is my good side when we're on the home, at home, and then this is my good side. We're on the road. I don't have measures, Walter. I like, did you see what Groobauer did to Max Jones? No. He like tried to kill him. He like really fucking gave him a good whack to the back of the knee. It was not good behavior. I think that both of them ended up getting penalties. Yeah, Sean. I just, I can't believe we haven't talked about it while we're on the topic of goalies. Pete's favorite goalie had like the worst day at his job ever. What happened? Jordan Biddington's terrible night. He gave him like two empty neck goals, basically. Yeah, I mean, that's that's my guy. Derogatory. Yes. Yeah, I just, I thought I was shocked that you didn't bring, you didn't, we weren't gonna bring yet an opportunity to make fun of. I think my point has been made. I don't need to steer any clear in that direction. Now that he's the backup, I mean, I don't know how they're actually utilizing them, I guess, but he's so bad that I just don't think about him anymore. Chad is saying that the mask that Philip Groobauer wore was debuted years ago for Indigenous people's night. Oh, but much less of a stink made about it than. Yeah, they always do that now. Exactly. Is, but is he doing that full time now? I just look like it. The shit that I sent you, Sean, was just from Googling Philip Groobauer mask. And that's what comes up now. So, yeah, I mean, all the pictures looking at getting all the pictures of him so far this year, he is wearing that mask. So, so this is tracking the Kraken. We're loving a mask that we've just seen from their goalie that he has been wearing for two years. That sounds right. Track in the Kraken on what chaos presented Bye. Seattle Ford. There you go. He was not wearing that mask.
That's regularly last year, looking back at the pictures he was not wearing that mask. So he's actually not been wearing a mask last year and I wouldn't have known. No, I'm looking. I'm looking at the Getty pictures. See, he was not wearing that mask last year. It was a much more, a much more basic kind of white mask. So the NHL told him he couldn't. Yes. He said, let you get one night and then we're going to suspend you if you wear that mask again. I did want to show, did you see speaking of the sharks, the pregame? Yep. It show the on ice projections from the sharks game. This is the coolest shit happening in the NHL right now. The under the ice, moving sharks during pregame at sharks game, truly the best use of on ice projection in the NHL. That's so sick. No, actually Sean thinks the best use of projection in the NHL is projecting a light towards the banners for a banner night. I like that shit. I like that shit on the ice. That looks awesome. That should be good. Not enough sharks, in my opinion, there should have been even more interesting. And also, I don't like the, I mean, I don't know, I was going to say, I don't like how I feel about the sharks being on the shark side. Like I want. I like it. I feel like the other team is swimming with sharks. Yeah. They were thinking about that. They were throw, weren't they? They all over the place? They looked like they were mostly kind of where the sharks were coming out, like by the bench. They definitely seem a little concentrated. I wouldn't hate kind of adding a few more in there, having them spread out. But I also like, let them, let them swim. Like give them space. Yeah. You don't want to overpower the tank. Yeah. This isn't SeaWorld. And the other team, if the sharks are below them, the other team knowing these aren't real sharks. Being projected there is given an opportunity to really puff out their chests and look really tough. They can just like skate over it and like hit the sharks, be like, not afraid of nothing. And then you're getting pucked off with a team that's all revved up and ready to go. Chad said that this isn't new either. I, I feel like it is. I could be wrong. Then why was everybody celebrating it like that? I saw this come across the timeline people being like, this is so sick and I don't remember them doing that. Yeah, I could have. I'll be honest. I wasn't watching a lot of sharks warm up last year. So hand up. It could be, it could be old. But to us, it's new and that's tracking the sharks. Sean, how are we looking for the slate today, buddy? I'm kind of like, ooh, it's a four-gamer, four-gamer. I can't wait to get to Sean's stats. We got the flyers. I was so pissed off when you brought it up earlier. I was, I wanted it to be a sweet special. The flyers visit the Tampa Bay Lightning at 7 p.m. Easter in the United States and Canada. You can catch that on the NHL network. Yippee. Senators visit the Bruins in a Linus Olmark bowl, also a Travis Green bowl. The Jets will, that's at 7.30 at 7.30 though, you know where your eyes will be. It will be on the Jets visiting the Pittsburgh penguins. I don't know if we have goalies yet, but could be a stew Skinner revenge game, although it's all love between those sides. And then an 8 p.m. tuck in which the sharks visit the Dallas Stars. That's a Mason Marchment revenge game. No, no, no, no, because he was on the Kraken last year. I can see how you forget it, though. Yes. Bad news. What? Clay Stevenson will start and make his Winnipeg debut in Pittsburgh on Monday. Good news for the penguins. It's good news for the penguins, that's true. They're avoiding that smoke. Although famously, when stew plays his old team, something really like a milestone ends up getting celebrated by his old team and they have to celebrate it next to him, but not with him. It's very sad. The hit leader is brought to you by Sean Depas, Leah's Pederson leading the way with 19. What's Popsicles? Popsisels? No. Popsisle. Popsisle. Martin. Martin. Popsisle. Popsisle. Popsisle. Popsisle. I can't say it. I can't say Mackenzie Weeger with 15, but what's important is that Leah's Pederson is leading by kind of a lot, throwing his body around, scoring goals, power forward. I want him to be awesome, mainly because I want to see what Connux fans do, because I think if they had been given the opportunity, Connux fans would have put that man in prison for the rest of his life at certain points. And if they have to swallow that medicine and be like, where Pederson guys again, that'd be kind of awesome to watch. The Pederson, by the way, is, has played more games than Popsicles, I believe. No, we're not doing any of that. Okay. Well, either way, it's a Lee. It's not more decent for power forward. No, it doesn't be. Hit the narrative. It is. He is a bad man. As we all know, Dallas stars, by the way, looking for their first win of the season. They got shut out in their home opener for nothing. Got out the Philadelphia Flyers, lost a close one on the road on Saturday to the Preds. And now looking for their first win. If I were to guess what happens, I'd say this one goes to overtime in the shark's win. Take it out. I would, that would be a, that'd be a fun one. That's going to be the, I think the highlight in the night. It's already your Pittsburgh penguins. That one is going to be fun. Yes. I mean, I don't know what we do if the penguins win three in a row, because then at that point, it's kind of like, like if Evan Bouchard, who's a Boston didn't do anything Saturday, had no points. If Evan Bouchard had like two goals and a couple of assists, we actually through three games would be like, the heart is Evan Bouchard's to lose. If the penguins start like too hot, we're actually going to have to be on legitimately taking them seriously watch. And I, I think it's more fun when it's, it's a little more whimsical. Chad says it's not good for stars fans right now. I would say it's worse for some, they have to say no, you're a free man. Yeah. Get that got him out of the fucking out of my lead is he back in the news? A third DUI has hit the rap sheet for the glass banger, you know, get him out. He will do anything except call an Uber apparently. So folks, don't drink and drive. It's not good for you. Slate is an A- but there are three of these games I'm watching. I think no, I mean, I, I, I'm invested in the lightning and I do have NHL network now. So I think Bruins might get squeezed out, even though I like the senators. I like the senators and their start and I like the Bruins and their start. We got a map Poitra debut. We have a Frederick Brunei debut for whom? For the Boston Bruins. I was wondering if he was like put on waivers and that was my the acie mont. Yeah. Get ready to learn Edmonton buddy. Yeah. Ellie, it says if he passes through waivers, which do we know if he has? I do not. Ellie, it would be the one to tweet it. Would he not? Yes. Yeah. He would say cleared, cleared. Yeah. Yeah. In the meantime, I don't know if you saw what Evan sent us, but kind of a dart. Looks like he might be practicing for the Black Hawks. Yeah. He's way back. Worst kept secret in the world. That guy is not out for the rest of the month. Isomant did clear. Or what guy? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, the tweet is very confusing. It was from yesterday, but he cleared and then he put Isomant on waivers. So but no. No one's cleared yet. That was 23 hours ago, which means probably within the next hour we should get within the next 10 minutes. We think I think 2 p.m. Yeah. Um, do we reveal who's a guest? Oh, yeah. Are we, Sean? Is that good to go? Yeah. A little bit. For tomorrow? Mm-hmm. Yeah. Pete. To do the honors. Uh, tomorrow on the show will be Bowen Byrum of the Chicago Black Hawks. Ben, uh, he said in the news. He said in the news a bit, uh, very excited. It was an awesome chat with him. So. Yeah. A spark that can, uh, maybe spark a turnaround at the start of the season. I hope it is, it is the interview because it's a really great one. You do not want to miss it. If you like the Conor Bedard one, Bowen Byrum was just as good. I would say pound for pound funnier. Well, yeah. Not comparing it to like the players, but I would say like the chat was, yeah, was some good, what chaos fun with someone we had never met before and did not know his personality. I had no idea what Bowen Byrum's personality was. You wouldn't. What's that? I bet Bowen Byrum. Really? Yeah. Me and him were buddy buddy at the Stanley Cup Final in really? Yeah. Whatever year that was because he did you feel bad that he didn't know you? No. I don't expect it. Yeah. Okay. But yeah, we had, uh, we had some nice chats during that Stanley Cup Final and that's why I was like, I was pretty excited to talk to him, but I did not expect, uh, the, the conversation. We had a lot of laughs. A lot of laughs. You got a good one. I don't know how good it's going. He's hurt. You got a good one. Chicago. I don't, he's not hurt. It was a, it was a personal. Oh, shit. Yes. Yeah. I'm sorry. Yeah. He was away for a personal thing. What I was going to say, we didn't talk about it before and haven't talked about it since we, we missed, uh, uh, what his video is. It could have been a Bowen Byrum, right? I know. Would have had a big thing on the Jembo Tron. I don't, I just, I wonder what it would have looked like, what the extent of it would have been. Well, as long as the video board uses lights apparently, it would have been a Bowen Byrum night. super chats from Agatha.
For never jinxing pens before a third period again. Yeah, I have some people tweeting at me pens wise like careful Don't say don't judge Respectfully, I'm not listening to none of that. I don't have the power to jinx the penguins and I'm blowing through every stop sign if there's a penguins tweet to make and I have access to the Twitter I'll do it and penguins fans. You're living the good life right now pay attention to stop signs. Yes Shout out Glasspanger guy Snoopy is not a beagle says after tomorrow. We will have gone 724 days since the last Anaheim ducks shut out. Will they get one this season? They played the oilers on Wednesday Who knows, but I know that it has been over 500 days Between five on three goals for the Buffalo Sabers You know that no sabers had a five on three the other night and didn't score They've gone over a calendar year without scoring on a five on three They were the only team to not score on the five on five on a five on three last season That's shout out that power play Power play of all time speaking of like X days since this happened in the oilers locker room after the win There was a big like it's been blah blah blah this many days since Babs got his last win from Leon in the locker I wanted one person just to yell. Why would happen? Yeah, it's so funny Some of the Owen Michaels that could have been your heat check moment dude the clip of Owen Michaels Giving the helmet to Devon Levi Would if you show that to me a year ago. I would be like what the fuck is all of this A.I. Slop A.I. Slop who is that kid? Is that who I think he's handing it to? How's that guy on the team? Oh, boy Jenna Cage says Three for three of being at San Jose sharks home games where they blow a lead in the third period go into O.T $5 to the learn how to play non sharks third period hockey fund Stop trying to to steal the whimsy. Yeah, you still ends up being exciting in their winning Evan Bouchard's heart, candidacy says does Pete have a new chair yet? No, we did say before the show starts This is the week. This is the week. We start to we start to look at chairs if there is a Seattle chairmaker Out there that wants to send us some product We could maybe use that to soft launch the track and the crack and segment. We do Frankie Smokes says biggest disaster on April 28th Demark Jim Arcus Russell drafted first overall by Oakland 2007 that would be that would be when the NFL draft is not singleton says Did my duty to let everyone know at Harry Styles this weekend. We were lucky enough to be dancing on the ice where Igor Shusterken scored a goal Eagle that's really cool Harry Styles doing the damn thing in Madison Square Garden Morgan says Larkin in Schlitler speed running who can be hated by their hometown team the fastest Only difference is one of them plays for the team. Yeah, it's Larkin. Well, yeah, no, but the It's Larkin because Schlitler didn't want to do that shit I think he did I think he lean so hard into it, which is like fine. Well, that's good behavior. Yeah, I think that I like honestly I don't I think that Schlitler is annoying, but I don't disrespect the energy that he's bringing like if you play for the Yankees Play into the Red Sox Yankees rivalry. You know how much that shit means because you're from Boston I have no time for cancel it. I think he's genuinely he Behaves badly on the internet, whereas I think that I think that's also true But like as far as his role in terms of throwing fuel on the fire of the rivalry, I Indorse that side of it. I endorse that. Just stop calling women ugly on Twitter. Yeah. Oh, I didn't know about that that's Stinks Car pig says speaking of American born players being boot I need chance thoughts on Buffalo booing Patrick Kane over the weekend every time he touched the puck. Is that right? I didn't fully realize that, but I I support it. Pat Kane It really upset me seeing him skate around in warmups and the black Oscars because Yeah, you could have come home. You chose you took a bag You chose the money to be on a worst team so you could have your little retirement tour and get your your your parade and your roses Donate your feet in Chicago because everyone loves you there You could have you could have taken a new step in your legacy. You could have been a real hometown hero And you chose not to I definitely wouldn't have booed him. I didn't that I was not a predictable outcome to me But I support it nonetheless. It gave off the energy of like playful boo and like I think that that's fine Like anytime a player doesn't choose your team. I think booing is on the table But I mean I cannot I cannot blame Patrick Kane for going back to Chicago, especially given what they paid him Jude oh three says still thinking about how legendary keep for sure would sell me in the game against the kings Yes, very good. T.S. film says can't wait for Toronto to come to Columbus in two weeks so we can rip Marchenko apart No, I think they get to you Yeah, it's gonna make me sad, but they get to you get to but I've already saw like people are like circumcising Carole Marchenko media availability where yeah, where there are like the Toronto media is being me They asked him a question and he did not understand the words and he was like hey, can you rephrase that and just took a couple of times And people are like the Toronto media is being horrible to Carole Marchenko and I'm like Just let let Carole Marchenko have a good time. He's he's fine I think so Stephanie Mills says congratulations on winning the argument. Sean. Yes, very good Lidlid says money for the what chaos pizza party. I mean we've had what chaos pizza parties and we'll do it again Ben Ludman says go say it's René Ben the goat. Yeah, Ben the goat Renee says shout out the Kings for bucking the helmet trend What are the Kings doing for? They got all they got the player the game gets a life. Are they one? I don't know the Kings results yet. I know they lost to the avalanche and I could not tell you what else they have done Stan says I need Jarvi to hit the Charlie Brown. I got a rock line if he ever wins it Too much green says the rock is actually just debris from the Lenovo center renovations. Not bad the Kings have not one resourceful Morgan Lizzie says DJ finally draws the line in the sand and turns on Mike Babcock for boring victory cigar. Yeah, you gotta I Have standards I have morals and those are them Anna Reeves says Kings need to have a Taylor Swift banner night and Rehang that thing they've been asked since they took it down. Oh, is that right? I mean they took it down a long time Yeah, I mean, it was kind of literally been asked for a little bit. Yeah, they've been asked for a bit. I mean Made the playoffs last year Taylor Swift can't monetize it though. So try not gonna happen. Harry Styles has a banner at MSG, right? I know that Billy Joel does But Billy Joel Billy Joel is like An actual retired number like a New York musician played their plays their every fucking month or whatever it is I can see that yeah that the like hang a banner for this guy has played here a lot Unless it's Harry Styles. I don't want any smoke is a little weird to me. Stan says Pat Murphy managed at ASU for 15 years hop back on the brewers bridge bandwagon Sean Get there buddy. Probably not. No, but I appreciate that. I mean he doesn't think he will. I'm rooting for him. I don't know where that I've never been paying I'm a walkie-y famously. They were really good this year best team baseball this year Shannon Rose says Sean emotional support fund for his toxic work environment Sean shooters have unionized. Oh, I don't hate that the Sean shooters union I haven't gotten any and this just speaks to the bomb that it was Was there a single digger comment all show Sean? Was there anyone who was like, oh, yeah, I saw that movie. I Don't I didn't notice in the moment. They certainly weren't going back to it after the fact as I retweeted a meme saying I am I have joined the war on digger on the side of digger Joe the press as general question is ESPN worth it big NFL fan first NHL season. So we talked about this a little bit last week Get YouTube TV like YouTube TV comes with ESPN unlimited if you get any any Plan on YouTube TV that has ESPN. You get everything that ESPN has. I don't know that I'm still paying for yes You don't need it YouTube. Well, yeah, I mean if you're if you're paying for YouTube TV Don't also I guess pay for you but YouTube TV is significantly more expensive than it. Yeah fair Like if you just want the ESPN of it all, but like you do not have to have YouTube and ESPN the only exception is that there are like a few ESPN app exclusive games per year They have solved my only concern though. Did you have you noticed that now when you go to choose a game It says do you want the home fear of the away feed which it normally does on the app But hadn't been doing on YouTube TV, but now that's been resolved. So thank you. It's a pin worth it for the hockey of it though You get all the gifts for the hometown ones. So absolutely worth it Emma Haven says Victor Eclan getting first goal on his birthday. Love that. Yep. Go sense. Go birds. No, what? Victor Eclan Vic Oh not William Eclan not William Eclan Shout out Victor T. S. Films says go guard
- Gards, big 5 p.m. Guardians plans? - 5 p.m. I think. - How do you know that? - Just an educated yes, to be honest, 'cause I don't know. - I agree with Keeta, I'm just gonna keep, I'm gonna keep celebrating until it runs its course. The YouTube TV experience of watching the edit challenge has just been unbelievable. - It has been very nice. - It is so, so nice. Like, there is no loading between switching games. That's the biggest problem with Fubo and with like the ESPN app. Switching from game to game is such a fucking burden. - Yeah. - And now you can just hold that like middle return button and swap back between all its sides. - And you can load up a nice little multi view. And yeah, you're right, it's like quick, it's responsive. - Yeah, can confirm the guards play at 5. They play the white socks and I gotta say, I'm going for the white socks and also the white socks have quite literally been touched by the hand of God because the Pope has decided that they're, they're there as team and they're gonna win and they're up one nothing in the series already. So the white socks, the white socks win the World Series this year. - Get us started asking questions. It's all set. - About God? - Yeah. - Finally, someone asking questions about God. (laughing) Shadow Kid Rock, he's got a song called Only God Knows Why. - It was before me. - It says, he knew he was weird and that's a great song. - I think I kind of knew that Kid Rock was weird when that was coming out. He was at his height of his popularity, but I was still like, that guy's pretty weird. - I mean, I am. - That song's still, regardless of what you want to say about Kid Rock, that song is still incredible. - Yeah, I mean, I am, when this show is done, I am getting us, I'm gonna go pick it by myself to be like, digger is a good movie. (laughing) So I'm doing some promoting of someone who's off the field stuff, maybe isn't amazing. - Every time I drive home from the studio, there are like, I don't wanna call them like picketers, but there are like protestors on the highway above, or the bridge above the highway. - Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, that's the way to. - They're anti-Trump, no kings. - And they protest literally every afternoon on the bridge above the highway, and they have new signs every single day. I'm just like, listen, I respect the energy and the devotion. - But, get a life. Will you doing that shit every afternoon? That's crazy to me. I would find it funny if you just joined them and brought a digger sign. - Oh my God, that would be amazing. - That's what we're doing here, right? - If you didn't see it though, I'd be so mad. - It was last so hard. DJ's just after the show, like, I gotta go. I have to leave right now, Pete. Don't leave for like 20 minutes at least. - That would be, what would I even put on my sign? - I just, no kings, unless it's Tom Cruise and digger, in which case he is king. - Oh, I mean, all time performance. From, like, one of Tom Cruise's best performances ever, one of my favorite performances by anybody recently. I like when something I like isn't for everyone, but people who don't like that movie, I don't think that anyone's actually seen it and haven't, no, that's not true. It has a 51 rotten tomatoes. I was gonna say no one's seen it, but the people who have seen it get that it rocks. Most of the people who have seen it are saying, it's a no for me. I do not like that movie. I had no idea, when I walked out of the theater, I had no idea. Like, I knew that there were murmurs like it might suck. I didn't know that it was like, hey, we've all decided it fucking sucks. So we walked out and my friend Rich was like, what'd you think? It wasn't quite as bad as I thought it was and I was like, oh fuck, I loved it. - I mean, I think that's good shit. I, I, regardless of where I land on it, I like that there are movies that are still made and I like, I like the movies are still made period, but I also like the movies are still made where people are just like so violently undifferent ends. - Yeah, again, I don't know how many people are on my end, but like the 10 of them that are on my end are really loud on social media and the memes are amazing. I don't like that we live in such a, oh, you like this? Well, here's what it says about you kind of thing, but the pro digger crowd is absolutely. - You're kind of people. - Doing the, no, they're doing the like, you didn't like digger. I've decided this, this, this, this and this about you and you're racist and you're this and you're that and I'm like, fuck yeah. - So you're kind of people. - Yeah. - Just, I've decided you're a bad person if you don't like this outrageous movie. - We got a tweet. - Yeah. - And all as it says is that Connor's area was placed on waivers, nothing about the guys that were placed on waivers yesterday. So I don't know if that means anything but the tweet he placed yesterday, he said that the guys from the day prior cleared and who was getting put on waivers. So might be something, I don't know, maybe not. Okay, well, hopefully we will know about Sunday's waivers by tomorrow's show. I think there's a chance we will. This has been a blast. We love Monday episodes. If this is your first season watching what chaos, Monday is typically just a big dump of like media and ridiculous things that happened over the weekend and some fun little arguments like we had. So stay tuned for those. We have one late breaking super chat from Anna Reeves. Says DJ, we will not be doing two to three hour shows now that we're back to regular programming. Also DJ, let me tell you about Digger on hour two. I, if I have time, I'm gonna try to get to the movies and see it a second time this week. I know I gotta see the new "Hat Away" one, which by the way smokes Digger at the box office, but that is also getting ripped to shreds on the reviews. Hmm, interesting. Well, you know what? Not everything has to be for everybody. Okay, folks, we will play a wonderful conversation with both Byron tomorrow and in the meantime, watch hockey, be cool to each other. Talk to you tomorrow.
