IS CHOPPER THE BEST STRAW HAT?! One Piece Live Action Season 2 REVIEW!

In this podcast episode, the hosts—Dr. Jace, Grandmaster Hoob, and Dr. Mondo—delve into Season 2 of the One Piece live-action series, covering arcs from Log Town through Drum Island. They unanimously agree that Season 2 surpasses Season 1, attributing this to a more cohesive narrative centered on Baroque Works, which replaces the episodic feel of the East Blue saga. Log Town is deemed the weakest arc, though it offers strong character moments like Zoro’s interaction with Tashigi and Smoker’s casting, alongside Easter eggs like Bartolomeo and Sabo that don’t compromise future storylines. Reverse Mountain and Laboon are praised for emotional depth, including a Brooke cameo, while Whiskey Peak excels with Zoro’s grounded fight against 100 enemies and Vivi’s introduction. Little Garden impresses with giant effects and Usopp’s bravery arc, but the hosts lament the removal of Luffy’s iconic "instinct" moment against Mr. 3. Drum Island stands out as the best arc, with Chopper’s adorable design and tragic backstory handled perfectly, though the kingdom’s doctor shortage is underemphasized and the finale with Wapol is anticlimactic. Criticisms include overemphasized violence to attract newcomers, Zoro’s overly stoic portrayal, and choppy CGI in fantastical fights. Overall, the hosts praise the show’s character moments and practical effects, while noting areas for improvement in future seasons.

Before they hung him from the gallows, these were the final words he said. Our perspective is yours for the taking, but you'll have to join us first. We left everything we debated at the Yonko table. Ever since, pirates from all over the world set sail for the Grand Line, searching for the Yonko table. The table that will make their dreams come true. Yo! Yeah, yo, yeah, yo, everyone. That is the voice of your Yonko host, Dr. Jace, attorney. And take a guess what we're talking about today. Kaizu Korni. Rorera. Murgiwara. Zuhahaha. Perfect. I got all of them right on. We're talking. Zuhahaha. We're talking about season two of the One Piece live action. It's been quite, what is it, two years or so? Two to three years since. Three years, that's right. Three years since season one dropped on Netflix way back when. But thankfully, we're here for season two, and we have high hopes for season three that is supposedly on the horizon, not too far off, I think next year. But we're here to talk about season two. All the way from Log Town through Drum Island. What did they get right? What did they skip out on? What could they have done better? There's a lot to talk about with season two. And I'm excited to get into it. But of course, with me, as always, is fellow Yonko, Grandmaster Hoob. Grandmaster Hoob, I remember you despised One Piece season one when we talked about it. I remember sitting there with. I remember sitting there with our good friend, Nino Desplosado, and we were having a back and forth saying, "One Piece live action cooked. It cooked. This is a good entryway for new fans." And you're there like, "No, they skipped too much. They skipped Go-man. Was it Go-man? Go-man?" Guy-man. Guy-man. They skipped Guy-man. Why did they skip Guy-man? I did not complain about that. I had my. gripes with season one. Overall, I still thought it was a worthy adaptation. I do think a lot of what they got right carried over into season two. But I am not a season one hater. This is a false narrative. Don't believe it. Are you sure? Yes. I believe Dr. Jace. If I remember correctly, Master was just like hating the shit out of it. This is untrue, but looks like Dr. Mondo's in the house, too. We couldn't have a One Piece pod without Dr. Mondo as well. Especially because this season introduces the most famous of One Piece doctors to the cast, so. Tony, Tony Chopper. Tony, Tony Chopper. Bokura Dokta. Tony, Tony Chopper. We'll get to him. Wow, spot on. Thank you, I tried. I mean. I will say this, per this pod that we're about to dive into, I think season two is almost ten times stronger than season one. Really? I sure do, and I sure do. And I think that is simply because the over-arcing narrative that is the Alabasta saga works a lot better than season one. works a lot better in terms of a serial live action series. I think that works more in favor of a bunch of intro introductory arcs, I should say. So I think they, with this idea and we'll talk about it. I think this makes season two a lot stronger than season one. That's where I'm standing right now. I don't know where y'all stand, but season two over one. No, I agree. I think, I think you described it very well. Like there's a lot, there's a lot you need to do when you're introducing a lot of new characters that are going to be so pivotal to the story. Kind of like each of the crew members is like, you introduce Luffy, you introduce Zora, you introduce Usopp, then Sanji, Nami, all those things kind of like you're setting the crew together versus now that it's like the crew is pretty much together. Now it's like the quest aspect of it. All I think it's like this is the quest you're getting into the grand line and now you're wrapped up in this political in this basically political drama and it's like everything that you're doing is to get from point A to point B and there are a lot of little points in between to get you there and I think that's a lot easier to kind of navigate to write out and for it to make sense and it's more cohesive. It doesn't feel like little stories. It's mostly like this is part of one big story. Yes. I'm 100% with that. Cohesion is the word. That's fair. That's fair. I'm going to be a little harsher with season two. It's some tough love because I stand one piece live action and not as a replacement, but as a supplement to the source material. I do. I do think they did a lot of things better in season two than season one and one of those is the character moments. I think you have a lot stronger character moments that foreshadow future events in the story of one piece and we'll get into some of them because I have Sanji talking about you know who with Nami that great, great addition. But then at the end of the day, right? One piece is a battle show. Shonen manga. It's you know, the lore and the characters supplement the fights in one piece and as these fights get more and more fantastical, I remember from day one, I've been wondering what does a live action Wano look like in one piece? What does a live action Skypiea look like in one piece where you start getting more fantastical? And I think here is where I start to see that line get really defined because I'll be honest, I didn't really like some of the fights in this season. I didn't like the Luffy versus Waple fight and again, it has nothing to do with you know, I think they tried their best. I think they're just limited on it being live action. Yeah, and I think to a certain degree. Also, because we know that with CGI, you can do a lot of stuff, right? It's like we've seen it with the Avengers movie. We've seen it with DC movies. It's like you can make grandiose fantastical battles. Hell, even like rings of rings of power with all that with all but you need an enormous budget for that you you need millions and millions and millions of dollars just to make that epic and you're limited on that. So that that has to be like a that's like a logistical barrier there but I think I and I agree with you some of the fights like the Waple Luffy fight it wasn't that great but I'm just going to use kind of like my girlfriend as an example she doesn't love battle heavy battle heavy anime so and I think she liked this season this one piece live action. one maybe I think because of the pace but also because of the like the character moments here and there there are fantastical elements but the fights aren't the only thing and or aren't like taking over so I think there's certain people that are going to appreciate that I for sure and let me let me balance out that criticism that I gave to it about the battles with when they do the grounded stuff. Yeah, like that is where I think they excel with the combat and I think that's something that they should put more emphasis on and I look to the Zorro versus 100 work members I I think that was the best fight in the in the was the best fight in the entire season I think it was the best fight in the series so far is the best fight in the series so far and I think it lends itself because it is so grounded in that it's it's Zorro fighting. a bunch of nobodies, a bunch of nobody characters, oak works and i think it works because it's live action and they can have fun with it and it still feels like one piece yeah um but yeah you know i mean like like you said there's there's other elements that make one piece as great as it is it's not just the fights yeah but you know once i saw luffy doing um uh gomo gomono gatling stamp against mr three in the in little garden i'm like i don't know i don't like this i don't like this jumping ahead but you know just the fights and the grounded ones great yeah i'm still gonna 10 toes down say season two is still stronger but i see where we're getting at let's get into it and let's get into you know by take it by arc and let's talk about what worked what didn't what that could have been improved upon what did they miss what did they nail what did they add let's let's get into it all right so we pick up in log town which i think they did log town really well um as far as you know they said we got to make this one episode and we got to fit in you know really the grandiose moment of luffy seeing the um you know where roger got executed the execution platform and right and then we gotta we gotta feel like we're okay this is it we're going to the grand line uh i don't think it was perfect but i really think log town had a lot of great character moments for each of them um there are some bad things in log town um but overall i think log town was really good like for example zorro and tashigi one of the best moments in log town just their whole interaction talk about character moments zorro and tashigi the the actress who plays tashigi that's that's perfect casting and i'm going to applaud her i forget her name but wow okay i applaud the actress that played the character my fictional character but god forbid i remember her name hold on i i think i know her name uh her name is oh gosh i'm terrible but julia rewald julia rewald um just a very strong i need goofy zoro goofy zoro came out where he's looking for the sword shop and you know hey you look lost and he thinks she looks like kawina he's like i'm not lost i know exactly where i'm going oh my god we need lost zoro we need lost zoro we need goofy zoro and she brought that out of him and then also they recreated the him picking out the swords for the shop i think they recreated that really well for me that was probably the stronger strongest moment in all of the uh log town uh art uh but i'm gonna start off with that that that that for me worked really well um what what about y'all what stood out in log town for you um i i like smoker like i like i like it i like smoker too i like i like smoker did a good job um also i think it was i i think it was like i think it was really cool with regards to just like the alv the alvida buggy scene it was like okay like i like i was fine with that i didn't love bartolomeo okay we got to talk about that's a big change that's a big change that's a big change i mean big change in terms of execution right yeah so you didn't like bartel being here i i didn't love i didn't love it i didn't like hate it by any chance it was just like okay whatever uh it had some fun like there was like some things that were like funny about it but one thing i will say it's like okay i maybe get a little bit what they're trying to do because like bartolomeo in the like in the manga and in the anime he's like a loofy stand like and and now we kind of according here right it's like we know why he's a loofy stand right because i think it's like loofy to a certain degree without trying to makes him quote unquote like go follow a dream he's inspired to have a dream like loofy gives him uh inadvertently kind of like that license or just like saying like hey by the way what do you what do you dream what what is your dream what what hopes it was a come to jesus moment for bartel yeah it was kind of like a realization of like a eureka moment uh moment of enlightenment or something but so i got it i just didn't love it um but yeah overall like log town i enjoyed it and it wasn't i think my favorite part of the season sure but but i enjoyed it time i think dr jace was gonna say something about bartow well it it goes beyond just bartow and it it goes more into i think the people that are creating this show are they are one piece fans uh first and foremost and i love that because they understand at what point certain things in the story need to take place and then at the same time they have fun with what they do know and then at the same time they have fun with what they do know and then at the same time they have fun with what they do know and then at the same time they have fun with what they do know and then at the same time they have fun with what they do know and then at the same time what happens in the future and they play around with it here so for example with bartow right in the anime and manga it's revealed much later in the story that bartow was at log town yes that is how he became a fan of luffy when he survived uh on roger's execution platform so the writers and showrunners know hey they already said bartow was here in a flashback in the post time skip let's have fun with that let's we're in lockdown here out of it no let's let's put it i love this idea just no i think i think the idea is not bad i think the idea is good i agree with the idea i just didn't love bartow that and that's fair that's fair they gave you bare minimum bartow which is fair because bartow in the anime is hilarious he is i would say this was a toned down bartow i would say this was a toned down bartow i would say this was a toned down but i give him grace only because i'm assuming his fandom isn't established yet once his fandom is established that is where you get the stupidity of of bartow doing everything that he does so so that that's what i'm waiting for but i i like the element of just hey we know he's here in the future of one piece let's have fun with it and let's have fun with it and let's have fun with it and let's have fun with it right now and you know and the thing is even newcomers watching the show they don't know who this is they're like oh a random green-haired person in a long town i guess i don't know we might never see him again i i like that it doesn't reveal too much in addition to kind of like adding on to what you're saying sabo okay so there's a difference however because you know bartow was an active player in this little story no he was like that was but like that was a creative choice they took but i think i think that was cool because again it's like we know that sabo is in the revolutionary army we know it's like he was no no it's fine but you know sabo is sabo's appearance which he repped it into online they knew i think they knew that's what they wanted the reaction to be they wanted you know for for newcomers that are like but for a long time fans like did you did you look at grace and be like oh i was like oh damn it's sabo and he's like who okay exactly so but it's it's fine because yes it it uh continuity wise it's fine it works um but it is more just like a hey y'all easter egg oh yeah um but it's fine though like i geeked out a bit um one i also thought they did really well with dragon and his casting um i like that they also went with another latino actor um to you know stay in line with uh in yaki and you know his background uh but to dr jason's point use what is established and what was what is currently established use it now because back when this first came out anime or manga you know we didn't know these things so it's it's cool to play with it now take certain liberties but as long as they don't actually change anything moving forward i'm fine with it so bartow being here sabo being here i'm like it's fine y'all calm down like some people are over here mad you know well because some of those people they're they're saying it ruins like the surprise it literally doesn't feel too much it really it's like it really comes down to a literacy test because if you show someone and we'll use dr mondo as an example he watched it with someone else that has no idea anything about one piece right and this other person watched it with you and when they saw this character then they had no idea who it was they're just like oh someone is right there behind dragon i wonder who that is oh he's dressed like willie wonka why is he so posh why does he look so posh in the background and that's it that's where it ends it they don't drop a hint of like uh yeah they don't tell you anything they don't mention his name if i'm not mistaken they don't mention his name he's he's not supposed to know luffy was was in long town he's supposed to have amnesia i'm like man they didn't say anything about that now that goes now so we've established what a newcomer is supposed to see in a scene like that and for a returning fan who knows that is sabo that is claiming it ruins you know the surprise for luffy later or when sabo regains his memories it doesn't change anything you don't know what was said in that scene you don't know if sabo even saw luffy you don't know and drag you don't even know if sabo remembers luffy at that point he's not supposed to talk he just shows up in the room and you don't know what is about to be said or who says what to who nothing is ruined nothing is ruined now if sabo came in there and said who was that that just left long town he had a straw hat then you can say this ruins it because sabo should know who he is right away it should have triggered something you don't know anything about what sabo saw or did or said in that scene agreed nothing is ruined nothing people kind of freaking out for no reason uh but it's fun to watch their heads explode i i've had fun of watching them lose their shit uh i know you said uh with regards to the buggy alveda bit you're not a big fan of that uh part right dr jace as far as well i've right i think we talked about it like you said how to alveda knock luffy on his butt oh oh yes yes it it's something that i've had to come to terms accepting that this is not the same luffy in terms of strength and power as the anime manga and and you see that repeatedly throughout the the live action series you know he's strong for sure but he's not like you know uh lifting up uh lappins from the snow with with one hand this luffy ain't doing that um but yeah like alveda you know alveda is not the same as the anime manga but he's not the same as the anime manga shotting luffy knocking him out i no no i i saw that i'm like oh i have to accept this luffy's weak i have to accept that and so eventually i accepted it but yeah i i i did like buggy coming back and doing his shtick like i like the buggy actor he was great in season one buggy buggy was really good in season one yeah and and i loved him here in season two um i i don't think him and the alveda actress have a lot of chemistry chemistry yeah like they're they're back and forth it it was kind of it was kind of stale we might just need more you know obviously we got them a little bit here i know we get them in some of the one shots later on but right um no but i will say kudos to the actress of alveda because she basically did what alveda does in the manga the slim slim the slim slip which some people thought they were like there's no way live action is gonna you know try to like this forced body imaging you know and whatnot but she did it on her own so i even mentioned it in the last uh in the last pod that we did on the season one i'm like are they gonna do that are they gonna have her like you know lose a ton of weight to like you know it's what the slip slip fruit does you know it's the point of it um but uh she did it she did it so kudos to her yeah uh yeah i give her a shout out for commitment to character um i like smoker and i think it looked good as far as our first logia user goes um and that i i think it looks good i think smoker looks good it it does it looks good because and this is the the fantastical thing i was mentioning earlier because you are gonna get more logia users you're gonna get magma you're gonna get lava we're getting sand next season sand and fire next season for sure oh fire right yeah right right and but with smoker you see the the logia aspect of him when he's in the movie he's in the movie he's in the movie he's in the he's really just standing still yeah and loopy's like punching him and the punches are going through him but after that it's like okay but where's where's the if this was a film and this was a film with a higher budget i imagine they would have way more fun with this yeah you would have smoker throwing so many punches and the smoke trails coming out he would spread his body everywhere to like envelop loopy that's what i need in the these fights that are going to start getting more and more fantastical what's gonna happen when enel goes into one 100 million body he's gonna look like jimmy fox in spider-man amazing spider-man 2 of course yes of course i'm your friend right i'm your best friend you forgot my birthday hey they could do that they could do that um but yeah i just uh they got they have the grounded fights knocked down tight i need these fantastical parts to be more fantastical what whatever that means i don't know if that means higher budget make it a film i don't know how that would work but they gotta do something they gotta do something because i like the actor i i feel like he did a pretty good job as smoker i liked him pretty good pretty solid um there was one part where uh when dragon interacts smoker um and like like you know he stops him from killing loopy and their their interaction there was really funny because it was kind of like one of those low budget like pornos where they dress up as the characters that's what it gave like it gave it gave corny it gave corny where they're dressed up and i'm like oh no where is this going i don't know it was it was just silly but sure sure um i do think i do think the show has a problem sometimes with some of the more kind of impactful moments i'm not i don't necessarily feel we got necessarily what we needed from luffy looking at roger's execution platform per se i feel they kind of maybe rushed that a little bit um but overall i i'm ultimately fine with log town being our jumping point for the rest of the season um i do think they also could have maybe done a little more with usop i don't know if y'all remember the filler episode in log town where he had a shootout with the anime oh he has a shootout with some dude that knows yasop and so it kind of gives you some connectivity to yasop since we don't get much usop yasop bits at all so i thought it was a good filler um but they leaned in with usop calling kaya back which i'm like okay whatever i actually like that i mean it's fine i probably would have preferred usop yasop type of thing well i mean i i don't really care much for kaya herself but i like because in the anime manga once usop leaves uh sira village you never really see him address like kaya in any way like man i i really miss kaya or i hope is doing okay um you don't get that so i i assume he he forgot about her ignoring water seven and any slobby but yeah he's gone but then when uh they showed that that bit where he calls her i'm like oh oh that's nice he he remembers yeah like tiny little details there yeah but it's nice that nami pushed him to call too right but i but i agree it's like the part where i'm like oh my god i'm like oh my god i'm like oh my god it's like luffy you know like they're going to kill luffy like on roger you know like exactly in the execution side of gold roger it's like that scene didn't hit as hard it didn't yeah it didn't hit as hard i think it was like it was fine kind of like when like i like smoker does like says what needs to be said at one point it's like smoker does like says what needs to be said at one point it's like smoker does like says what needs to be said at one point it's like smoker does like says what needs to be said at one point it's kind of like you know like he it's kind of like you know like he it's kind of like you know like he literally smiled in the face of death literally smiled in the face of death literally smiled in the face of death it's like he's the next roger i gotta it's like he's the next roger i gotta it's like he's the next roger i gotta stop i i think it's like yeah i didn't stop i i think it's like yeah i didn't stop i i think it's like yeah i didn't get that either get that either get that either smoking like they try to like kind of smoking like they try to like kind of smoking like they try to like kind of like give back the impact I think they partially did, but it still didn't hit as hard. Yeah. I would say, yeah. I still say, like, Logtown is the weakest part of the season, and it's still not bad. Yeah, no, no. It's still not bad. It's still not bad. It's still not bad, but it's the weakest part of the entire season. Yeah. Yeah, I think once we get the ball rolling, obviously, you know, we go to Reverse Mountain and LeBoon. I think once you start actually entering Baroque Works is when the ball really starts to roll, which we could talk Reverse Mountain now, but real quick, Dr. Jace is back. Oh, no, not that background, but I guess my background with Robin. Oh, the opening scene in Episode 1. That opening, because that was, like, the only, what is it, Hana Hana fruit that we got? No, it was. No, no, we got it later. When she gets, when she goes, when she goes on the boat, she uses it. Okay. Well, this scene right here, though, was. That was the combat scene, yeah. That was phenomenal. I honestly like that. That was great. That was really good. It was really good. The CG, and I pointed this out in the video I did, the CG at the base of the arm where the arm is coming out of the body, they probably need to work on that because it does look really bad if you look at it. But the actual arm itself, and then, like, the choreo with it, all of it was great. All of it was great. Just, oh, God, because I was looking, I was like, ooh, how are they going to do this? How are they going to make arms come out of, like, people's bodies here? And if you look at it, where the arm at the base, where the arms come out of the people's bodies, it looks wonky. It looks really wonky. Yeah, I'm going to give them. I think they did a really good job. Just like the arms, just like, you know, like, it was. It was, like, brutal. Well, because she was killing them. It wasn't no clutch and all that. Yeah, she's shooting them, stabbing them. I was like, yeah, we don't care about the zero kill rule. We're good. I will say one thing, right? And, like, it doesn't impact that much. And I think this is something that can be applied a little bit to the entire season. Like, I kind of want to see some blood, like, a part of that. No, yeah, but it's, like, very sporadic, let's say, because, like, even, like, when she's killing them, you know, like, literally, there are bullets flying everywhere. There's bullets flying everywhere. And it's, like, there's not a single drop of blood there. It's a family show. I think while you may not see blood, like, you know, it's no attack on Titan. Oh, no, no, no. I don't need it to be the goriest thing in the world. Again, I really don't. But, you know, like, if there's, like, a shit ton of bullets flying out, there's going to be blood. It's just, like, I don't know. Right. My thing with the violence, I feel like they're emphasizing the violence in the live action more than the anime. Oh, yeah, of course. In a way where it's, like, for example, Miss Valentine, right? We know Miss Valentine. Miss Valentine's fruit, if used in a way where she wants to, she could kill someone, like, a normal person. She could kill someone with that thing. And then in episode one, you see a random Marine, like, you know, she's, like, crawling on the floor, and then Miss Valentine comes over, and knowing what her devil fruit is, the kilo kilo fruit, she curb stomps that person in the face. Yeah. And I'm like, oh, my God, that Marine is dead. That Marine, they straight up showed, like, a One Piece character killing someone here. And I don't know. Not to say no one dies in the anime or manga, or that there's no violence there, but I feel like when there's, they overemphasize death here. Yes. No, no, no, no. I agree with you. I'll tell you why. And it's weird because, you know, obviously in the manga anime, death is not so great because when it is an actual death, they want it to hit really hard, which we all know. It's usually, like, a main person. Right, right. Exactly. But it is this appeal to newcomers, I think, to where they want them to invest in the show, to which, despite the show already being so fantastical and cartoony, if people were walking out of these fights unscathed or not dead, they're going to dip out and say, it's not realistic, which it's such a weird kind of. Saying that with the CGI deer in your background. Right, because I'm like, at no point is this supposed to emulate what it'd be in our world, you know? It's their own fantastical world. So I feel they do these over-exaggerated deaths to cater to those fans. They know there's a Game of Thrones audience, flocking to this show, who probably want blood and want violence, and if they don't get it, they're going to bow out and say, it's too goofy, it's not real. A man with a sword in his mouth should be able to kill everybody in his path, but ten people walked away just fine. If that's what would have happened, people would have been pissed. And it's annoying to cater to those people, and it is what it is. So I get it. But it's so weird to, like, hear people complain. It's not real. It wasn't real when he stretched his head to catch a fallen body out of the air. Like, when was it ever real? Hey, it's Ryan Reynolds here for Mint Mobile. Now, I was looking for fun ways to tell you that Mint's offer of unlimited premium wireless for $15 a month is back. So I thought it would be fun if we made $15 bills. But it turns out that's very illegal. So there goes my big idea for the commercial. Give it a try at mintmobile.com slash switch. May slow when network is busy. See terms. Poetic. Reverse mountain. Laboon. Did the tears roll for y'all? I think they did a good job with Laboon. Yeah. They did a good job. They did do a good job. Um. Again, some scenes weren't adapted as faithfully, um, to some extent. I, I, I missed the stare down that happened inside the belly, the rage bait. Right. Um, but it was good. It was still good. And again, it goes back to that element I mentioned with like Sabo introducing Sabo in episode one, introducing, um, Bartow in episode one in lockdown. I like that they showed a flashback with, uh, the, I, I, the Rumbar pirates and they showed our boy Brooke. They showed Brooke. And then I still saw the comments of people saying this ruins her. No, no, it doesn't. It's the same thing. Same concept. A newcomer to the show has no idea what that character is. They be. And not only that, cause it would be one thing if they showed the Rumbar pirates and then they overemphasized Brooke. And then you start questioning like, Ooh, they're showing a lot of Brooke is, is he maybe important? No, they, they show captain Yorkie just as much as Brooke in that flashback. So you have no clue as to which character is going to play any inkling in any future version of the live action one piece. Even if you did, Brooke is a skeleton in the future. No, and I think it's like, they did what they needed to do with Brooke. They showed he's a musician. Yeah. And he sang to the boom. They did it. That's it. That's it. Done. It doesn't change anything. Not a single God damn thing. Not a single thing. No, I, I think as far as liberties that they took in this season, that was one of my favorites. Cause just it's, it's just a, a, a really sweet moment for the fans. Cause I know for one thing, it's just, it's just a, a, a really sweet moment for the fans. Cause I know for one, if they showed that flashback and you know, knowing what we know, and they didn't allude to Brooke, I would be upset. It would be boring. It would be boring. Right. Right. It'd be boring. It just feel like a missed opportunity, you know? Cause why, why not? Why not show Brooke? It's something the established fandom already knows. And it just, that flashback strengthened that whole story. Yeah. You know? Right. It made me feel for Laboon as someone that already knew what Laboon's backstory was seeing it here. It made me kind of like revisit that feeling again, like, oh man, Laboon, oh my heart. Like, ah, damn it. I understand. They nailed it. They nailed it. Yes. Keep doing stuff like this for season three and onward. Stuff that makes sense, that doesn't affect the characters or the story, but still work when being introduced with what we know later on. Perfect. Perfect. Yeah. They, they, they did great with this. Um, oh. luffy singing bing sake to laboon i will admit a little cringe just just a little just i'm okay with it being cringe it was cringe but that's fine but it was it was like heartfelt it was heartfelt cringe yeah it was like it's not the cringe that i'm like oh it's such an intentional cringe because luffy in the anime and manga never it wouldn't it it wouldn't translate well to how dumb he can be right to which and yaki portraying luffy as just kind of more um just cringe i think it works i think it works really well like because it's i think this is a more quote-unquote realistic luffy i think it's like luffy can be kind of like oblivious to certain things but this is not like uh you know it's not a shonen character right yeah like the shonen character is like oh yeah there's guys that's like kind of dumb but real strong but has like a good heart it's like this is a luffy that it's like yes he can be somewhat oblivious somewhat naive with like somewhat innocent in a lot of things but overall he's very kind-hearted he's also very charismatic and he's actually a very good leader a very good captain and cares for his crewmates and his friends at like and gives his all for them and that's like some like more realistic qualities that they're portraying him it makes it believable it makes him a very believable character to the believable part i don't think newcomer audiences would be happy watching just a really dumb luffy you know uh going throughout the series i think they and it and it goes back to what i was saying about this whole realism and in such a fantastical world but it's it would be so hard for them to get on board with this guy is just dumb a hundred percent of the time so at the core he's still luffy but i think the cringe just really works because we know cringy people um like that i feel cringy people is real and yeah i i i liked him singing bing saki i thought that was really nice i i i like i felt for laboon you know yeah i i honestly liked it i liked it it was good it was good he did the i think it's like laboon's story because like one piece as you know it's like one piece is great when it comes to flashbacks when it comes to characters back in the day it's like one piece is great when it comes to like sad ass backstories it's like every like every straw hat to a certain degree has a sad backstory and one piece where it shines in its storytelling and character development is in those flashbacks a lot of times and laboon they did a great job with it yeah yeah they they did and i guess a lot of the effects too went to that kind of whole sequence them coming down reverse mountain um as well i think they really did good job visually with that um yeah i feel reverse bound was strong i i think it was strong uh we had our introduction to miss uh wednesday and mr nine they were fun um i guess i think it's interesting um knowing obviously who we knew who she was going to be um they i think they did nail kind of her unimportance uh early on you know like they didn't kind of emphasize that oh she probably will be someone yeah uh which lines up with the anime i kind of re-watched those episodes not too long ago and i was like okay they kind of got that right where she doesn't feel like she's about to have a big relevancy you know right so i'm glad it wasn't in your face that hey hey she's gonna be important yeah peacock slasher like they did good with those they did good with those i didn't think that was something i cared to see her little peacock slashers but they lended to some nice cool little action bits yeah we did yeah um but yeah reverse mountain i probably put reverse mountain currently over um log town log town yeah yeah uh now whiskey peak though oh whiskey was good whiskey peak was good whiskey peak was good i was very surprised um how well like i i was surprised how invested i was with whiskey peak i think it comes from the zorro bit the zorro fight is absolutely okay right right they nailed it they nailed it now does it does it take over my uh my goaded four kids scene with uh great to see you buddy does it does it replace that no no it doesn't but i'll take it i'll take it fine whatever of all the moments in kind of kind of just in all the arcs that we've uh you know gone through because what a what a kind of more simplified moment in the manga and anime and they said hey this could translate really well if we just give it it some attention and some love and what a yeah just what a great sequence like the fact that we counted each one that was a lot of fun yeah that was because they could i mean they could have taken that lazy route and just done a montage of like zorro doing one slash and like killing like 15 guys or or cutting back to uh like another scene with like luffy getting enchanted by the vertigo dance or oh and then when you come back to to uh zorro he like everyone's dead already they could have done that and you know it would have been boring but it still would have gotten the job done no they took their time and had you count and i this is a neat little factor too i like that me hawk is in the back of his head in these scenes yeah people call it uh pts me hawk ptsd me hawk oh oh perfect it works that was great yeah because it's kind of like if you think you can beat me it's kind of like zorro challenging himself still reeling from that loss yeah so and it goes perfectly oh me hawk can take should be able to take on a hundred yeah so baroque works i let me do it i should be able to do it and so people say we shouldn't call it ptsd me hawk it's more of it's just a motivator and there was a nice moment between luffy too um and zorro before it went down where luffy's like every guy that you fight is like a step closer to fighting him so i love it that was good that was good even even when he does defeat the baroque work members again i i get the joke that it's ptsd me hawk but ptsd me hawk still comes to him at the end of that sequence and is like well that should have been nothing for you okay you still got a long way to go to fight me and i love that because it's a long way to go to fight me and i love that because it's a long way to go to fight me and i love that because it's a long way to go to fight me and i love that because it's like yes you did well taking out these 100 folks that that for you know from baroque works but there's still a steep hill to climb you can't stop there you can't stop there you you got to learn to cut through steel you got to learn to uh slice down whole battalions of ships you got a long way to go you got a long way i loved it i cut through the laguna aqua uh when they get there if they get there um the sea train enos lobby but right right yeah but yeah just you know if we're gonna do practical stuff this is when we need to do it just a giant set piece a hundred as you said in your little short npcs and counting and it was just really good choreo too there's like a lot of great one shots in there um they ate they yeah the choreo was really good i was like okay yeah there's a really fun scene where he's fighting and i looked him up his name is hercules uh the the big buff oh yeah with the mace um and i guess he looks the part but i like that whole sequence where like zorro couldn't really take him on properly so he starts like dancing around him taking out other members first before then focusing on him i i don't know i i re-watched that scene like a day or two ago and i'm like man that this oh man the grounded scene i listen i think we did a pod one time or maybe we did like shorts on the yuyu haka show live action yeah the one on netflix um and that show had its own problems uh but one thing i really like from the yuyu haka show live action was the grounded fights there's a scene where yusuke fights uh the red ogre demon character and i'm like oh god this this is really good the show's not good but this fight right here is really really good and i see that kind of reflected in the zorro fight here i i need them to somehow translate these grounded fights the way they do the choreo and the set pieces and make it work for the big fights because the 100 baroque members that they're nothing and it was a good fight but who the hell remembers these guys right they're going to have bigger battles down the line that need to need to have great choreo as well like our big battle sequences cannot just be these mob fights where you know we're just taking out a bunch of scrubs you know we got to have some really nice 1v1s uh you know especially in alabasta which you know that's the second time we've had like the everyone had like a 1v1 going on right right everyone got a 1v1 um so hopefully there is more down the line um obviously this is where the the plot thickens um with you know vv and igoram come clean about you know them being spies and baroque works and they're trying to take down baroque works and crocodile uh i thought they handled this pretty well too um the the vv actress uh shandrita i think how you say her name she said uh her relationship with the igoram actor uh sharithra um she they were crying on set together uh she was saying uh i don't know if i got all huh about what oh just they're like you know they really bonded over their characters and whatnot and they really kind of looked out for each other on set um i don't know if i got all that in the i didn't i think it was obviously i think it was a little obviously some things are being trashed right um i think vv okay i'll say this not that i don't buy into vv and igoram but i think the mr nine bit where mr nine did not betray vv uh was really well acted uh by the mr nine actor oh yeah i think i think whiskey peak overall was just very good i like from the acting of mr nine to the fight sequence i think like ingram and vv kind of mesh well together they do they do yonda thomas plays mr uh our place igoram uh yonda so oh but you were saying continue oh no so i think and like his scene like his final stand is also kind of like like again the actor did a very good job at just like making it like felt yes because that's like again one piece is beyond just the fighting shonen anime it also delivers on these like emotional moments and you i think it's like that's where the anime i think shines right and i think that's where this live action i think dr j said it perfectly in these moments it's where i think those are the best moments in the live action yeah i think they're nailing a lot of the character a lot of like the moment like those character moments yeah like i even really appreciated small things like usopp and sanji about to go do whatever with those random broke work girls um no but it was a bro moment i guess what about kaya what about kaya it is um it is a non-committal whatever said in the barbie movie it's one of those it's a i'm not one of those that's what the situation was so i don't make the rules uh but i like moments like that just kind of straw hat bonding moments you know and you know also one thing it's kind of like i think it's like you see this a little bit with sanji one thing i kind of like and we we talked we spoke about how luffy they made him like a little bit more believable in the sense of you know he's not as dumb yeah and sanji i think they made him a lot more believable and then you know because sanji in the anime is just like he goes gugu eyes for every girl yes and it's just like what the hell like desperate and i think here it's like obviously they've toned it down and they put him like he's just like a very very good gentleman he's flirtatious he's flirtatious right but he's a gentleman like he's not like he's not a pervert it's like with class like and the way it's like he's not just like oh my god a girl it's all like and the sanji actor i think he does a phenomenal job yes yes and chas chas chas chas absolutely kills it asanji he absolutely kills it asanji yes well we'll more on him later because yeah he gets his yes he does um but um overall i think with yeah whiskey peak was good um yeah i i again i think once we're with baroque works is where this plot starts really coming alive some because that now that's now especially now too now that vv's here on the the mary with the straw hats there's purpose now yeah we're not just hopping island to island obviously that's what the straw hats were always gonna do but now there's a sense of purpose and and it works better than season one because you remember season one really tried to have an overarching thing for east blue saga where they made like our long show up uh after moofy left buggies remember right right right they they tried to have our long be the the the connect the connect the connect the connect the connect the connectivity thread yes is this end game is they did that for people like you no they said people like you cannot follow along just let each individual arc be its own thing you need something where like is luffy gonna collect the infinity prism stones along each island to fight our long at the end that was for you no for you it's not for me um but it is for fans who need an overarching type of narrative so it's annoying because it didn't work for our long i don't think it worked at all like when our long also showed up at baratie remember i remember yeah and they it came at the cost of getting rid of the don creed the don creed fight right yeah and i was just like it doesn't work because again they didn't even know who our long was because they at that point i don't think they knew nami um was you know working with our long yeah and so and they didn't know our long was chasing them either so it didn't really impact anything like they were there wasn't any urgency like oh we got to get to the grand line before our long catches us you know so uh but it obviously works better with baroque works they have a mission you gotta do it let's go do it bing bang boom so yeah and again it's kind of like i get what they were trying to do in season one right because in in the sense of an anime versus a live action an anime you know it's gonna have its little arts it's like it has its own little story segments and kind of like once that story segment ends it's like oh the next thing has to happen for a live action you can't do that you can but it doesn't it's not as good it's like you're gonna lose you're gonna lose a lot of people doing that because it's gonna be like wait where did this come from right it's like it's like this came out of nowhere this came out of left field zero build up zero anything about whatever threat we're talking about and you just like dump it on us right so that's why you need to do like a gradual build up and or like introduce you to the game and you need to do like a gradual build up and or like introduce like pieces of like future threats sprinkle them in in whatever you're doing right now so that it makes sense when it comes up which to one piece of credit they do do it in the east blue saga like not there are hints that nami she like early on says i'm trying to buy back a village i hate pirates she looks at johnny and yusaku's wanted posters but it works better in a manga and you know the anime than it would here but yeah moving forward east blue is more episodic than it is you know serial which is fine because we establish our main troop of characters you know we establish our strides which is really what east blue is for but um yeah baroque works i think it is a great kind of first major villain organization for yeah um straw hats uh yeah i would say it's like their first like major not like major threat because you know they fought our long they fought you know buggy but like it it's their first like oh this is bigger than just this is the villain on this island with only ties to this island uh like these people know each other right they do and and they have ties to bigger players in the one piece world you know lupi beats the crap out of buggy he's not gonna see any repercussions from that it's buggy buggy might chase him but that's about it same with arlong if they're attacking baroque works we know who the final villain of that is and we know what happens when lupi defeats that villain puts a target on his head so yeah great stuff great stuff um little garden is the first two-parter little garden is the first two-parter which i deserving deserving i think it is it is i need to re-watch or read the little garden uh portion of one piece again because i don't remember usab getting this much dialogue okay so usab does and i did because i am i re-watch majority of little garden like yesterday and a little today um obviously this is where usab has his kind of i want to be a brave warrior of the sea like dory and braggy you know but same thing kind of what we're talking about with luffy and sanji we could not have an overtly cowardly usap you know like it just wouldn't work i feel like people would hate that character in live action right to a degree yeah right it's just kind of too goofy for live action like luffy we can't fight run away like which he still does which he still does right does it but it's like it's again it's believable in the context of a live action yes and i think they play it up perfectly with jacob romero which is kind of just being reserved about you know i i'm kind of weak and i am afraid and he he it's this weird he doesn't know how to navigate it you know and i feel that's believable um now they don't do that in little garden right like they don't they do it talk about like bravery and fear yeah like he does yes they do okay let me rephrase i know they talk about bravery and like being a brave warrior honor and all that but the emphasis on usap i i go into battle all the time and i'm afraid yeah i am afraid i think i think they play it up a little differently here okay to really kind of give us up this kind of moment this kind of arc because this really more is more kind of his yeah because and they do touch upon that because pretty much it's like usap in a way is on his own to try to save all these power like his entire crew all these powerhouses and with bro uh bro uh broggy is he's like he's he like tells him all of his concerns like he's like you know my friends they're all they're all in trouble i don't know what to do and i'm the weakest among them you know and i'm the weakest among them and i'm the weakest among them and i'm the weakest among them and i'm the weakest among them and i'm scared shitless and that's where he that's where he actually tells him it's like it's fine it's like it's good that you're scared it's like there's nothing wrong with it it's like i'm afraid every time i i like i go into battle it's like true courage is is getting up is getting up and doing it regardless of how scared you are there is no warrior that tells you they have no fear like or they're a liar or they're a liar which is funny because usopp being the liar yeah yeah all right yeah come on they kind of ate with it like he does have his moment he has his moment and i think it's like a very believable character arc yeah for luffy and little garden and they did it well they they portrayed it well here also it is like there are some like funny moments there like kind of like again like the sanji zoro bickering it's like yeah they're doing they're doing good with that they're doing good with that it's like oh i killed the t-rex what are you talking about it's like it's like all that kind of stuff in your dreams moss head in your dreams with that and and pretty much uh another thing that was pretty funny oh yeah when they're all waxed out zora's like he just like strikes the pose he does the pose i don't think he exclaims i can't remember if he exclaims he's like well if we're gonna die here I want to look cool. I'm going to look cool doing it. Which, again, see, I like McKenny as Zorro, but I need them, the writers, to let him be goofy. We see glimpses. We see glimpses. We're getting glimpses. It's as if they're building to it, which I guess if they are, it's fine. I would like it more. But, I mean, they did Dorian Broggy. I was afraid. I was like, how are they going to do? I think they look good. They look good. They look good. I don't know how they did it. They look really good. They did really good camera perception shots where, because that was the weird part, too. Like, you know, you know they're supposed to be giants, but, like, are they going to green screen them? Which, I mean, they did. But the way, like, to emphasize that this is a battle between giants, all the camera shots, for the most part, are either at their level or below them. And that was good because at no point, did I feel like these were just actors that were being downsized or upscaled to just appear bigger. I felt like they were giants. And it worked. It worked here. And they did a pretty damn good job doing that. Yeah. I was surprised. I was surprised. I was satisfied for sure. Because as we continue, we're only going to get more fantastical. You know? Like, it's just going to keep getting bigger. And I'm glad they went for it. I like it when this series, the live action, goes for it. I'd rather them go for it than them just skip it. You know? So I applaud them when they go for it. So I'm happy they went for it here. How did we like Mr. 3? David, I always say his name wrong. Polka dot guy in Suicide Squad. Yes. Yes. Polka dot man. Das Valschen. He was good. He was good. I liked him. His fights weren't all that impressive. But in terms of him portraying the character Mr. 3, I thought he was good. Yeah. I thought he was good. Did you miss some Luffy alluding to kind of hockey? Ultra instinct? Whatever you want to call it. Observation. Whatever. I know some people sounded off about that. I was one of those people. I did not like the trade-off that they did for the fight that we got here against Mr. 3. I liked the conversation that Luffy and Mr. 3 had in the anime manga that led up to Mr. 3's defeat. Because it's kind of like a spit in Mr. 3's face. Where Mr. 3 is mocking Luffy. The entire time. Saying that he's a monkey. All he does is act on instinct. You lack emotion or distinguish character traits to appreciate the fine arts. And then he does his wax clone thing in the jungle. And then, you know, he's like, you can't find me, Luffy. You can't find me. Luffy does not look anywhere for Mr. 3. He just does one gomu gomu no stamp and plants. Mr. 3, square in the face. And Mr. 3's like, how did you know it was me? How did you know? And Luffy tells him. Instinct. Instinct. I loved that moment in Little Garden. That moment with Luffy is cemented in my head. And for them to take that away in this, that's where I'm like, okay, well, what are you giving me then? Correct. I was going to say, it doesn't really. They don't give it. There's no reason why they took it away. Right. Right. They don't. And I mean, they do. I did mention it earlier where, like, the fights are getting more fantastical. So you see, like, a scene where Mr. No, Luffy does gomu gomu no gatling stamp. And the scene looked weird. It looked wonky. And I'm like, can we get the actual stamp? I mean, we would have been fine with just one stamp, right? Oh, yeah. It would have been. And I mean, David is mentioning it perfectly in the chat. Mr. Three, he's not a strong fighter. He's not. He's supposedly weaker than Mr. Four. But what he lacks in strength, he makes up for in intelligence. Did you get, like, intelligence from this Mr. Three at all? No, I didn't. Maybe in conversation with, like, Mr. Five and Miss Valentine. Maybe. I don't think he's going to have those moments, but not necessarily. He's eloquent. He's eloquent. Yeah. Eloquent. Maybe not necessarily. smart he's eloquent yeah maybe not necessarily uh intelligence for sure what i mean in intelligence is more like um he's very dastardly he's very scheming right he has plans uh contingencies and and he's very methodical with them here he's just like all right i want to put up a wax figure and i'm gonna you know uh make the candlestick turn them all into wax figures and all right we're good loopy's there like i don't know it just he just i don't know i i and he has a like a kind of like he's a little bit of a megalomaniac yeah it's like he has this like god complex right it's like everything i do is art or whatever uh he's very eloquent very or like has this narcissistic perception that he's like very cool so i was like fine with i think little garden i liked it i think it's like the good things a little garden i think brogy and dory and dory like usop's moment i like miss golden week they did good with her abilities i like miss golden week um i like the fantastical elements of the island in itself yeah um i honestly like i was fine with sanji's with sanji's scene and uh oh with this uh mr 13. mr 13. i was kind of fine with that friday that was fun that one little and he did though he called crocodile did the mr prince mr prince mr prince he killed them oh yeah right yeah the unluckies right yeah the unluckies yeah yeah he snapped the bird's neck what else are you gonna do that's what i'm talking about this live action violence thing oh yeah for sure for sure um it works mr prince came out so he's great yeah i i also like the fight where they when they're where zoro versus mr five that was really done well um and then they're giving vv a good amount of action bits her and nami 2v1 yeah yeah the 2v1 vv yeah that was pretty good you know that was i liked it i like grounded the grounded yes practical right yes they're they're doing good with them they're doing good uh usopp coming in with the flame star to zoro's blades that was good too i'm liking more of these wombo combos that the characters are doing which i feel like they do more of that here uh in the in the live action than the source material i know it happens in the source material but like not as often as they've used it here um like usopp with the flame star and zoro does his flame slash thing yeah right right i do like this more i feel it makes sense here because it costs more money to have separate scenes with separate actors and separating them so they're like let's put them all together let's do what we can and it's it's i guess it's less expensive the more expensive it's the more expensive the more expensive it is so yeah i think it's a lot of work but i think it's a lot of work but i think it's a lot of work but i think it's a lot of work which yeah i ultimately i think they did pretty good with little garden and i love that they did the sovereignty at the end uh with the giant um oh to create the hole inside of yes right they did that in the in the original i know i didn't think i was like i hope they do it here i i can see that beat being something that they omitted for sure i for sure thought they might omit it yes that's great i'm glad they didn't they went for it they went for it they they swung for the fences and they got it and it didn't look bad either it didn't look bad it didn't look bad yeah little garden was good little garden was good oh david saying miss valentine got one shotted by vivian nami uh she did i don't know if she's gonna be able to do it she's gonna be able to do it she's gonna be able to do it she's gonna be able to do it she's gonna be able to do it she's gonna be able to do it they're giving nami's little uh her little stick uh oh god they're giving it too much credit than it deserves i mean they broke it in this in this arc i think she still knocked her out with it yeah i was gonna say like nami they put her at this point in the story here they put her as a better fighter than in the anime at this point in the story oh yeah she couldn't do any i mean she still had the staff but she like she wasn't doing what she was doing she wasn't doing this yeah she wasn't she wasn't fighting goddamn uh um miss valentine i know eventually like when once they got to alabasta i think nami realized like hey i i hate being the sideline character that can't do anything in these fights and usopp makes her the climate baton yes actually like fight and she she gets like a 1v1 with a character in alabasta double finger there's double finger so yeah um it it's just funny that she she's op with a stick right now imagine when she gets like her actual forte with the you know climate and and weather and everything i mean that that that will be fun uh for sure and they're already kind of alluding to usopp being a tinkerer uh a lot throughout this season yeah i feel they did not do enough of in season one so like when he made the pepper star and then he made vv that little grappling hook in drum which let's talk about drum uh was drum the best yeah drum island was the best drum island was the best and we're talking about overall yeah drum island was the best overall drum island got three episodes i think drum island did nothing wrong drum island had your introduction as your first episode then it had your flashback for episode dedicated a whole episode to the flashback i think it works i i think that's a testament to how much they thought yeah chopper's backstory would be like received well because i think starting from because who was the last straw to to join the crew uh sanji right well nami's flashback is technically got oh nami right in our long park yeah right i think once you get past nami because nami has a tragic backstory but once you start getting past that the all the straw hats that come afterwards their backstories become way more intricate and in my opinion way more sad uh like don't get me no oh zorro's backstory's the the most you know saddest among the straw hats who sobs is stop shut up no who's in line is choppers robins you know who's in line is choppers robins you know who's in line is choppers robins you know who's in line is choppers robins some people say frankie so frankie's got a really sad come on it is it is i just never see i i never see people like bring it up at all but it's robin and chopper robin and chopper have the saddest backstories of the straw hat i think choppers is just really good because he's already a victim of circumstance and then on top of all of that he finds you know this one person hero luke who the dude who plays hero luke spot on uh he nailed he nailed his performance but yeah you know he's already down on his luck being a blue nose reindeer who ate a human human fruit and then the one person who becomes his friend is on his way out he's already knocking at death's door before you know not too long after their established friendship and then he goes and sacrifices himself and then also chopper gave him the wrong mushroom they they did it right they did it they they did it perfect they didn't rush it they did not rush it i i felt like this was a scene that they could have rushed easily like they would have thought oh they don't need the part where chopper gives him the mushroom he just needs to die you know who cares if chopper gives him the no chopper needs to be the one to give him the mushroom that is the point that is the point i thought the skull and crossbones meant freedom i thought that's what it meant you stupid stupid you stupid stupid no katie seagal killed it too as um kareha did you want jamie lee curtis instead jamie lee curtis can play nico olivia she'll be fine oh wow it would also be great because they asked her which character would you love to play in one piece and she said well my ship has sailed here because of my age but nico robin boom make her nico olivia yeah or the mom she said nico robin curtis said it's like her favorite character in the show that she would love to play but obviously the ship has sailed right is nico robin got it so it would be perfect to cast her as nico olivia gotcha yeah literally they would definitely i forgot the reasoning why because i remember they did have jamie lee curtis like in line at first to play korea like not not officially casted but she was like in like as a front runner i think they were like she was like other commitments or something she was she was on the short list like they said let's reach out to these actors to see if they're ready or if they're available which katie seagal is a good second like if if jamie lee curtis was number one i can see someone really pushing for katie seagal to be number one it works it works i really liked her as kareha uh i think she easily could have phoned it in um and i also think she could have really made it goofy but again they're doing good at making the believability if there is this push to have these characters be real in our world i think it's they're doing good at you know making it believable for the new audience like like yeah like when she popped off on chopper for the mushroom you know you stupid stupid reindeer no but i think but we gotta talk but we also gotta talk about chopper my freaking god chopper's adorable oh they're absolutely adorable i love michaela hoover's little chopper voice because yes there's something about her chopper voice where you know it's like when she says stuff like uh these are my first friends i never had friends before like there's such an innocence to it yes that i think works really well and i and i really like it it does uh because chopper is a child he's a child and cut no go for it oh no i was gonna say she kind of sounds like tails from uh sonic uh universe like just over emphasizing that child childish nature in the voice it works it works and i think they got the assignment right with chopper in just the way he looks like chopper is absolutely adorable absolutely like yeah like girlfriend she's she was like she has cuteness aggression just looking at him he's cute he's cute and he's and again that whole the backstory works really well and tying in a the cuteness the innocence and the drive to be a doctor you know um i i think chopper is probably the strongest part of the drum art i do think there's some areas in drum like i really wished we got a better sense of this kingdom has no doctors running around like i don't know if we felt that enough you know i didn't feel it no yeah you're saying you didn't feel it i did not feel it okay i i did not i did not feel it either okay um yeah i i didn't like the emphasis of the 100 is it 100 or 99 missing doctors oh however many yeah something yeah yeah i i saw the background characters like doing their thing because like oh yeah they do it in the manga they the the doctors have their gloves on and they're standing yeah in the back but like as i'm watching and i'm like wait a minute i know that as a one piece fan i already know who they are but did they like really emphasize like the importance of these doctors missing david mentioned with there were there actually 20 doctors there in the live action there wasn't as many they didn't have like 100 doctors but yeah i i didn't feel that the country was like i know they said it like the country was ill right like dalton says it multiple times like this country is sick we we have to you know save it but i didn't really see like the sickness element of like where are the country's doctors no but i think the sickness that he's saying is not like a true like you know like the the literal sense of the oh no i i know that like that but but but the the doctors being missing that's a big part of drum island because there's no medical attention in in the country and i remember dalton over emphasizing that saying like listen the country metaphorically is six uh is sick but um we're missing our doctors here we got no medical attention people are freezing their asses off in this cold weather it just plays into the desperation of nami's here who desperately needs a doctor this village here is desperately in need of a doctor there's only one doctor and she's a crazy witch that lives up you know the tallest mountain and the only way to get to it is from the other side but if you go to the other side you're not gonna make it and i feel they kind of misestablishing the drum island as a character um okay to which you know it's just like and it's not even that the flashback it's not up to the flashback to like establish that it is in that initial kind of when they showed up um to the village is i just show every just show like children in beds coughing and sick and whatnot yeah yeah just you don't got to overemphasize it just again yeah i think just give a little bit of a visual and that's it and just move yeah literally literally you know um i i think i didn't feel like granted i agree with y'all like just by listening to you all i wasn't really thinking about that as much when i was watching it admittedly um i think it's like pretty much i see a kingdom oh another thing that they did they mentioned blackbeard well they mentioned blackbeard in the manga they do they do yeah they do yeah oh well look at that see like i missed that but no no it's been so long it's been so long for me that i missed that i'm still glad they mentioned blackbeard though but that was but like i was like that's good that's good they mentioned it was regardless uh so that was a blooper from my part but i think you do see a kingdom kind of in desperation right a run-down kingdom it's been ravaged um by blackbeard to a certain degree ravaged also by wobble you know the entire the entire nine yards i wasn't thinking that much about the absence of doctors i think like the absence of doctors they pretty much just use it as the like damn nami just came here to an island that's known for its doctors and they're not here just rotten fucking luck it's like but yeah i agree with you all they could have just like made a little like 20 seconds 20 seconds it's like my biggest negative to the drum island arc i think because like honestly they do pretty well the drum island arc it's by far the best arc yeah i i like how um let me ask y'all about the scene um okay let's talk about the big scenes like the climb luffy's climb up the mountain i thought that i thought they did that well i think they did a good job with that the climb was good i liked it my biggest thing with it was i needed them to show the bloody fingertips yeah because that was something i remember like oh god this is this is not as easy as just like oh i just need stamina no you're you're you should be seeing your bones uh in your in your hands yeah so i did like that they showed the bloody fingertips on luffy's hands and climbing the mountain um how about uh them meeting chopper like you know luffy's childlike excitement um i'm i'm okay with it um i do remember in the original he thinks chopper's food yes um so he tries to eat him i think this is fine too um just because it works it like it i i still see luffy as just seeing chopper i was like oh my god what is that thing yeah uh i liked it i liked it yeah yeah and i think it's like again they nailed chopper they absolutely nailed chopper like this like really smart little cute reindeer and this was also like very shy and it's like chopper you're hiding the wrong way i never realized that was him hiding the wrong way yeah i didn't know i never knew that what do you mean they say it in the in the source material i i don't know i can you read mr what no no no no no pause everything pause everything i'm sorry dr just real quick wait a minute wait a minute the first scene in the manga and anime when you see chopper he is hiding the wrong way and nami says do you realize you're hiding the wrong way i promise you i don't think i ever heard or realized that that was the joke that he is hiding the wrong way which i think is so freaking funny as a longtime fan wow right the card is revoked fine yeah and it's like it's it's kind of like the the the stark contrast it's like he's a doctor he's like super smart but he's also a child that it's like that he does these little things that you're like oh it's so adorable but he's grown moment but like luffy like luffy kind of like oh first encountering chopper it's a nice moment and when like the he takes the pirate flag it's okay um oh oh wait you're talking about like not during the fight no not during the fight not during the fight okay when he's like don't touch it and he's like no and it's like because he thinks like luffy is like oh yeah you're just gonna and no like luffy like he puts respect on the flag yeah and he actually uses it like he uses his gum gum powers to kind of like hang it yes and it's like no it's like that flag that's important what it symbolizes again like and that's i like the like this portrayal of luffy as a live action again oblivious but he still has like this sense of what's truly important he's not dumb they're not dumb they like he has moments of insightfulness to to what um to dr jay's point yes and you know they you know they could you know they could you know they could have easily just played up the whole chopper's food let me chase them around instead they gave them kind of they re-emphasized that luffy believes in people's dreams if someone has a purpose um what it is to lose somebody and yet still have mementos from them because you know chopper's flag is equivalent to the straw hat you know in terms of value so he gets it and he's not dumb to which you know the manga and anime luffy's not like he's dumb but he's not like an idiot you know what i'm saying yeah he's an idiot but he's not dumb you know what i'm saying no i mean i i get it probably the words are not being used right but i i get it i get it right right but um that was a good scene um let me ask y'all about there is the scene with vivi usop and and zoro and zoro is kind of like you know i should have gone up there with them uh oh can you just shut up zoro just leave he didn't say that but he was like i got it you gotta go do something zoro stop hovering over me you're you gotta do something did you like that moment i'm i'm or i'm curious the take of that moment because i a i think it's a really powerful kind of moment for usop but i think it also kind of points out a flaw in how they uh handle zoro but what did y'all think of i i feel that's a moment that needs to be talked about i think it's a good flaw that they emphasized um because you don't really get moments like that in the original source material unless it's over emphasized uh this was like a minor moment like zoro stop hovering over me like god go do something um i i liked it it was minor but it shows like these are real characters they have their fights they have their good moments uh obviously they're gonna have a much bigger fight uh later down the line between the crewmates um but i liked it it was it was fine i was like oh wow usop said that but that was it i moved on i guess i find it interesting because overall with because okay zoro on drum island remember he's working out and he's not really worried about nami uh he more or less is nonchalant about the situation he's fucking around with karu like karu falls in the ice oh icy water and whatnot so i'm over here like obviously they don't want to do goofy zoro right but they're now not doing the is it too unrealistic for zoro to be kind of having trust in luffy and sanji to take nami up the mountain that we need him sulking and kind of being useless i don't know i i feel it's it's weird i feel they haven't figured out what they want to do truly yet with zoro and i think zoro well in that in the anime and in the manga like zoro is really one of the very few characters that kind of like does not question luffy at all right like he's actually like one of the very few characters that doesn't question it and like whatever luffy says it's like yo i'm gonna accept it because he's the fucking captain um here i think what they're trying to get at is that pretty much um he wants to be useful he like he's pretty much the first mate he wants to be useful he doesn't want to be kind of like useless to his captain and i think he's kind of teetering on that like when he lost against draco meehawk it's pretty much like hey i don't want to lose again um no doubt but i don't want to lose again i i i feel again i feel they're teetering and they they don't necessarily know what to do with him because i feel zoro to your point he doesn't question luffy except like towards water seven a little bit but um he's more proactive like you don't have to tell him stop hovering over me you know um he'll already go be proactively doing something to keep busy or he's not worried like like i i feel just it it highlights maybe a bigger issue i have with the the portrayal not the portrayal but how they write zoro for the live action i think they're still trying to figure it out but you know he's saying it's like he's i don't know like he's hovering to a certain degree that he's not like it feels like as though he doesn't like trust his like or trust the crewmates you know it but then he said that he has moments like kind of a little bit later i don't know if it's in that episode or the next one they're kind of like usopp is doubting you know like usopp is doubting himself you know when all the the wopple like mechanized soldiers come in and he's like oh this shouldn't be anything for the hero of little garden he says to us up which i like that interaction it's like he it's like he he knows like when to like bring them up as well so yeah i think it's like i understand a little bit the issue with like oh he's hovering it's like don't hover and you know like he's not being like quote-unquote proactive but i i think it's like he acts as the captain when the captain's not there which is kind of like the first mate's job right i don't think he's acting like a captain no no i mean no no i mean like he tries to fill the role of the captain he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like tries and i think it's like when he brought us up up in that moment i think he is acting someone oh you mean in the battle in the battle that's what i mean because because luffy's not there he's not in the village he's he's up there right right right right it's like so it's kind of like zorro's in charge when luffy's not there zorro's in charge i i am challenging them upon season three i think zorro they need to lean into goof zoro and then they need to lean into just kind of not that zorro needs to be so is he too stoic i should let me ask that is he too stoic all the time is he too aura farming like posted up in a corner type of silent strong silent type hi ryan reynolds grandmaster hoop maneuver i'm no i'm telling you there's a bigger issue focuses on one little detail i'm telling you there's a bigger issue at hand if you don't see it now you'll see it later let's talk about the zoans because we got our first zoans here david in our chat wants to know about dalton okay zoans zoans i like dalton's look i think they nailed i think they did a good job with dalton yes i agree and i don't know me personally although although dalton looks better i didn't mind like big chopper that much he had to grow on mind like as in you as in like I think Dalton's better. I think Dalton's like the, design adult and as a zoan is better agreed okay but because like i don't know like people saying what the hell is that with like chopper like big chopper i think i was like i was fine with big chopper it's like they need to they need to probably work on the prosthetics a little bit um when it comes to chopper because that's right that's the one that they've decided hey we're gonna go with full-on prosthetics as opposed to cgi right um yeah i it did look a little weird because i think chopper is the first one that we see as the zoan in that form and i remember seeing it and i'm like oh that's i don't know something's off with that one but then when i saw dalton's i didn't get that same reaction when i saw dalton so i think maybe they just wanted to kind of like make it like make chopper stand out again it's not amazing i'm not i'm not saying by any means like oh my god it was amazing i'm just saying i didn't like i wasn't like quote-unquote disgusted by it i'm not i'm not wowed by it i'm not mortified by exactly that pretty much that uh initial reaction i thought it was like oh no he doesn't look good but upon my second or like by the next episode i was like okay you know he looks fine grandmaster was like what have they done to my boy because i feel like that's probably the hardest thing to nail because like what because like with dalton for example all you have to do with dalton when he turns on his zoan is mix mix the face of like an ox or a bison with a human face yes and that's it it's simple you know where the nose is you know where the fur is with chopper he's like a mix of like a human slash reindeer slash whatever the hell monster he turns into in that giant form because that's not a reindeer and it's not a human either it's a hybrid yeah it's a hybrid they're trying to mash like three different elements together and i think if you look at like the anime and monster manga and you look at chopper in his like monster form you don't even know what he looks like like what is he supposed to emphasize like i know he's an abominable snowman slash yeti but like facial wise you don't really get that from him but live action like that was probably going to be the hardest thing to translate uh into live action i definitely let it go for kind of those reasons i don't even know what it's supposed to be but live action like that was probably going to be the hardest thing to translate i definitely let it go for kind of those reasons i definitely let it go for kind of those reasons right i i think they did the best that they could do given what it is i'm happy that they went practical versus cgi for a heavy point yes yeah yes i think that's a good idea um right because that is the combat heavy form of uh chopper i did not like that there was no rumble ball we saw what we didn't you see the rumble ball we didn't get rumble ball action right and this this is the arc where they first introduced like this is why chopper is going to be a mainstay you know he's the doctor he's the cuteness overload but he got hands he got and he can throw he got hooves correct clothes clothes yes and uh yeah like i'm glad they at least acknowledged it and didn't just say forget that we're not doing rumble point that's too hard but i i don't know i i feel like that was a missing element in this final season finale of a fight um so they what it means is they better capitalize next season and if we don't get horn point guard point jumping point and you know arm point then it's going to be very upsetting it is they said they gave themselves a bar then they gotta clear it now you know right to which although your point though a lot of people did feel although drum island was done well it was kind of anticlimactic as a finale a season finale yeah i think it's like the fight with waffle wasn't great it was inside a room yeah i don't know why they keep doing a lot of these interior shots you know the the scene where waffle uh sees the flag and he's like take that flag down and he shoots it i don't like that i know loopy like you know blocks it he like take tanks the hit i don't like that it's inside a room it just to me it lacks impact versus him being outside atop a building planting the flag for all to see it's called cinematography is because there's cinematography in those shot those panels in the manga right right that does not translate well to loopy what is he what is he standing on the fireplace i think he's standing in in the crater that was made from the i don't even know what i don't know i don't know i at this point i'm making excuses for the show the cooler shot is what you're saying he's standing on the whatever part of the castle with the flag planted smoke coming out of the house and he's like oh my god i don't know what's going on with him like come on y'all we gotta go for we gotta go for cinema that's a cinematic shot and and the cherry on top is like the final blow gum gum air assault he flies out of the window like a power ranger villain also with him launching himself off asanji i'm like uh okay okay yeah again like the the final fight wasn't it the chopper sanji versus chess in whatever that was fine that fight was fine that was better that fight was better it's like better i think it's kind of like that you had like such a peak fight at whiskey peak in and then it's like i needed choreo yeah it's like the choreo in that last fight against waffle wasn't it it wasn't and i get it waffle is not like an exciting villain in the manga or anime because he's waffle he's he's a piece of shit that doesn't know really how to fight he just munches on random objects and you know uh like there was a scene where um he he got a spear i think and he ate the spear and then his arm became like a sharp object and in my head i'm like what does it matter you just had a spear who cares if your arm is now the sharp object it's the same thing like but waffle in the manga and anime like again more fantastical if he eats like a a saw blade i don't know he starts like spitting out like multiple saw blades from like his stomach or whatever right i they this is my worry going forward into like season three if there's a four or five these fantastical fights have to be fantastical waffle is a fantastical villain because he's a workshop uh enemy he's a factory he's a factory he's a literal factory i didn't really get the factory element i got like one little arm sword i got one we got some yeah he made we got some like all of like the soldiers yeah i mean yeah he got the soul but those soldiers weren't even in the same room with him he was like he was like i'm talking about like his fight with luffy like i mean his fight in the manga is really not that much of a fight either um as far as like a one piece fight goes is more of him running around gives luffy a munch munch cannon ball here and there david just pointed out in the chat there's a scene where waffle eats himself yes correct i'm skinny i get it it's live action you can't do everything but you can't do everything but like that that's what i'm talking about i need more stuff like that that's fine i i'm netflix put in the big bucks listen stranger things is over yeah so now well these are in the same production bucks into one piece live action put all of into one piece live and not only that you you lost the merger to warner brothers you have even more money now you have even more money you gotta put it somewhere put it into one piece for the love of god please put it into one piece to make these fights even better than what they can be right now i mean they're gonna have to we got two loggias coming uh next season that's gonna be huge um real quick before closing out um drum uh the sanji nami scene that was great uh why why sanji cooks i go to sanji cooks i go to sanji cooks i go to Going back, doubling down on the Sabo, Barto bits. um and and and brooke showing them early this is good this this little bit was sanji and his mother because again he doesn't reveal too much to where as a newcomer you're like wait sanji has siblings sanji has a has a deadbeat dad that hates him they beat him sanji was an experiment you get none of that you get none of that all you get is an emphasis on he cooks for his mother and his mother was sick and he misses his mother and she calls him little prince done done and that was perfect that was perfect i will i will fight anyone in those reddit threads saying that that scene was bad oh listen that was a great scene somebody was somebody was commenting on my post that i did about that and i was like are you an idiot they're like this ruins the reveal this reveal i and i said i said man i don't remember them mentioning germa i don't remember them mentioning judge i don't remember them mentioning uh the siblings i don't remember them mentioning any of that nothing and i was just like yeah there's there's a literacy decline one piece fans are slowly becoming the joke that dragon ball fans are becoming where do dragon ball fans read one piece fans are becoming that slowly but surely blame blame our government um jeez some people had an issue with nico robin showing up in drum having a little moment with vv trying to give her an out and whatnot i yeah i thought it was a little weak a little i thought it was a weak way of including her a weak way of including yeah i i didn't need nico robin in drum island i didn't need nico robin in drum island i didn't need nico robin in drum island i didn't need nico robin in drum island she appeared and then was just like all right see ya i yeah she's like i warned you like i'll protect you just give up this endeavor of saving your kingdom which some people thought it was kind of against character to have nico robin try to persuade vv to not stand up to oppression right i did feel that because um even when i watched that episode i questioned like she's not even on anyone's orders like here on she's by herself right and so she's not acting on crocodile's order she's not acting on so she's more in her character in this moment and she's telling vv to abandon her kingdom and everything and i'm like is that something robin would do right um i don't know i don't know i mean i see what they're trying to do and like they're trying to give her some more screen time which is fine uh like i don't have no issues with her actress um whose name escapes me uh lira abova i i think she looks great as nico robin um and i they're obviously trying to establish some overarching themes ahead of you know alabasta and then of course ahead of where she eventually winds up at the end of it but yeah i just feel like don't force it if it doesn't make sense like it just didn't make sense really like if you want to include her in these arcs you for sure can just kind of make her just be a thorn in their side like you know kind of like the cheshire cat just appearing and being like you sure you want to help this doctorless kingdom your navigator's never gonna make it give up now like monkey d luffy yeah something like that you know uh or maybe just you know if you're going to include her let's allude to what she's been through you know like is it so much is it so bad for her to maybe have said to vv is like i know what it's like to have everything you fought for destroyed right in front of your eyes you know yeah the same mistakes i did done done boom don't say anything else is it is it too much but i guess they're not thinking that so but i know people have been popping off about her appearing here wasn't my favorite yeah they they they didn't need to yeah no i don't think so but exciting things to come with uh you know season three which i think we're getting it 2027 right yeah oh no way 2027 i thought that was the implied they've been they've been filming for sure that's yeah i don't think officially they've said season three 2027 but i think in filming season two the mindset was we are filming all of this in one go so you should get the next season within a year that that was my understanding going into it without them officially saying it it says projected mid to late 2027 or early 2028 which is a shorter span of time since uh you know season season season one was it was a shorter span of time since the end of the year i think it's a shorter span of time since the end of the year i think it's a shorter span of time since the end of the year i think it's a shorter span of time since the end of the year i think it's a shorter span of time since the end of the year way back when in like 2021 comes out 2023 and now we're in 2026 you know i need a season three yesterday so make it 2027 uh i would love 2027 2027 would be great um i mean netflix just has too many shows that they put out as compared to hbo you know they should be able to do that hbo doesn't have that much projects they do but they all hit but um yeah we need more money funneled to one piece you know again stranger things is over final things is over they got wednesday screw wednesday oh yeah no wow okay they they have um i mean yeah season three is should be most if not all of alabasta i think oh this is what i wanted to say i'm telling you at the pace they're going if it's an eight eight episode season i do not think we're going to get eight episodes of alabasta oh no no no yeah not a not eight episodes of alabasta i think realistically like two to three max and then jaya right do you think we'll get jaya in season three so wait directly after drum island is it right there alabasta yeah they're essentially there they're pretty much essentially there that's hard yeah that's hard uh three episodes of alabasta then man i mean sky pia no no i'm thinking four episodes of alabasta four but then you still have four left oh no which i think is crazy like jaya would be one and the other three maybe sky pia what if they did that that's that's hard just that is hard because i don't think they've even casted anyone just for as far as we know as far as we know as far as give me m&m as god enno that's all i need you are not getting m&m as enno just make him bleach his hair again return a slim shady in the early 2000s just stretch his earlobes a little bit and that's it the the only thing the only thing i could think of is with alabasta like david is mentioning in the chat it is a really long arc because you get establishment of like multiple characters in the kingdom of alabasta you get introduced to uh cobra which we didn't even talk about cobra and the rever oh the reverie damn that was the other thing i forgot yeah the reverie um great flashback by the way great vivi and igorim uh moment showing her her princess qualities putting putting her country ahead of herself and her personal feelings of getting in the face from wopple and they did not have to make it the reverie in the anime the wopple is leaving a meeting with and they're like in the streets of alabasta where that happens right this is a world leader meeting so right it was a reverie meeting and i i like that i like that addition oh i love that it's so it's such a cooler thing to have done but see like you have you have all those elements like okay you have the kingdom you have the people you have the whole like i don't even know if they'll adapt it like the what was that thing called like the green sand that like oh the the thing that dried up the the water like right from like raining i the name is escaping like it makes rain but it has an adverse effect of like not bringing in like natural rain right like it steals the rain from like neighboring yes yes that's what it was yeah thank you david yes dance powder um you have karu they mentioned karu they did they did so we're gonna get karu um and and remember assuming they're adapting one to one luffy's fight against crocodile is three parts yes correct three parts uh first part is he he's up against the logia and he meets his match he can't land a hit on him part two he realizes oh this guy needs to get hit with water so i need like a water jug on my back to like spit water on water luffy Water Luffy. too goofy and then part three is i just need a sweat on my fist once i'm sweating then i can hit you that's only four kids i love the four kids though yeah i know the the blood sweat whatever they want to use they're gonna do blood they're gonna do blood um but see like that i mean there's a lot to cover in alabaster there for sure is a lot um you also have the rebellion uh her friend the people right oh i i forgot her i forgot goza i think it's goza is goza yeah goza's father who's at that oasis trying to dig up the water the old man yes the old man who keeps sending the sandstorms you know oh my god uh uh god david mentioned ace you get ace and yeah yes yes yeah wow yeah and ace is already casted yeah ace is casted yep yep all of the baroque agent gee honestly if they wanted to this is what i would do if it put me in the room put me in the writer's room make season three just alabaster just i mean it probably is just going to be alabaster right right like what five six episodes max i think that's a stretch huh uh but um make that five five six episodes i think what they honestly should do not that i like it but the first half of season three should be alabaster and do a 12 episode order six dedicated to alabaster six dedicated to jaya skypiea and like give us still season three that's all season three but it's 12 it's a 12 episode order oh no then we're never we're never getting season three we're gonna be waiting like another three years let it be man we gotta we gotta up the timetable okay put me in the writer's room keep him out of it we need to up the timetable no no i just need look i just need them to get to water 70 in his lobby and they will then i need to up the timetable it's gonna be 2036 before we get to water seven good riddance taking too long um so we yeah we got ace smoker do you like smoker and tashigi being our marine focus now garpin kobe and helmepo only made a cameo this season i i thought it was fine i think it was fine i i like if we're going to have a navy focus i like that the navy focus or the marine focus shifts between you you got to see um they're they're they're they're they're they're kind of like utilizing elements that you didn't get to see in the manga and anime um so like for example uh smoker and uh tashigi they fought two characters two baroque work agents one of them you saw mr 11 mr 11 but the female which i her name is escaping me at the moment um um it's miss monday i think miss monday no no no miss monday is the the lady from whiskey peak sorry it was a day of the week miss thursday is i think it's miss thursday yes she is referenced in the anime manga you don't see her in the anime manga so i thought that was cool that they uh yeah you utilize elements like that they did that with mr seven in season one that was a good idea for sure um yeah i'm i'm here for them kind of making good on you know things that are hinted at you know um we got our look at crocodile uh gentleman joe mag jello or however you say his last name flash thompson from i knew he looked familiar yeah yeah it's flash you think you're farting you think you're funny don't you freak i don't want to fight you flash i wouldn't want to fight me neither rubber man wow what if he says that i don't want to fight you crocodile i wouldn't want to fight me neither wow wow they should do that hell no they're not gonna do that'd be funny imagine imagine it imagine if crocodile throws a punch at luffy and it's that slow motion raimi punch where he he looks at the fist as it glides past him whoa whoa hell no but why don't you why don't you take that clip and put a straw hat on toby mcguire and put a hook on flash thompson wow that yeah that could be a meme season three of one piece leak boom no jace no yes jace yes yes that would be funny that would be that would be funny yeah season two overall pretty great better than season one yeah yeah come on i think i think overall yeah it it's it's the fight scenes that are bothering me the most but if we're talking about like character moments and like playing with the sandbox of like you know this bartow was here at loft town let's let's have fun with that just going off of that concept alone and what they've adapted so far it's i would say yeah it is better than season one it is better than season two season one yeah um i'm gonna get harsher as as the seasons go on it's a different showrunner for season three correct i remember the showrunner for one and two it's like matt yeah matt i forget his last name i can't remember his last name right and i remember it it seems so weird that he just dropped out after season two because i mean because he did pretty he did a really good job so yeah he did a really good job so that is the concern going into season three without that showrunner who was like for all we know he was the one keeping them in line uh well no oda oda's the one keeping them in line because he gets final say over everything um but yeah i don't know we'll see we'll see but uh season two is great can't wait for season three for newcomers go watch or read the anime now or the manga correct correct or read up to what you've watched i'd say have fun with it or read off from where you left off here oh even if you if you're so desperate to know like who is crocodile how is lupi gonna fight well we don't know he's a sandman yet but spoiler oh they they gave a little nod to it uh yeah he he did something with some sand like they showed a shot of his hand hand yeah and it was moving some sand oh okay okay yeah ever so slight got it got it okay well no yeah but definitely season two like better than season one i think like building on season one i think for sure and i don't know like what ratings kind of like would you give it out of ten oh i wish i remembered what i gave season one uh i know i gave season one a pretty high score um i don't remember what it was but i i remember you gave a low score to season one it was not that low it was lower than the room that we had with someone someone had to bring y'all down a bit and i was fine to do it i remember nino was on there dr mondo was on i think toasty was on there we were like no you pack it up they did season one correct um i i'm pretty sure you gave it like at most a seven yeah probably yeah that that's probably accurate um i i don't know like it's it's a solid like eight i think 8.5 for me um again those fights i i needed them to i needed them there uh but the character moments the playing with the sandbox of like sabo bartow brooke um and uh yeah just just overall for a live action it's it's a great adaptation it's a great adaptation solid eight and a half i i would give it give me the better fights give me the better i would give it a nine yeah i give it a nine i think like my biggest gripe i think are the fights um and low town the loof yeah locatown overall i think in terms of like the arcs covered in this season drum island number one whiskey peak number two little garden number three locatown number four that's fair that's fair um yeah i'm probably probably i i think 8.5 is fair i think 8.5 is fair um happy to see chopper love zoro putting chopper on the shoulder oh beautiful happy for the straw hats in general yeah i'm excited to see i think the most fun i have with this series is just seeing what they go for and whether or not they nail it uh and what liberties do they take and whether or not they nail it that's the most fun i have with this series and for the most part uh they've been nailing everything all the liberties they take and you know all the bigger moments that they go for i love that they're nailing it for sure we can do better with some of these fantastical elements absolutely but again i'm glad we're they're not just burying burying them saying it costs too much we're not even going to try i'm glad they're still trying and that's really all i could ask for it is indeed still probably the best yeah you live adaptation yeah um as far as uh adapting a manga or an animated series goes i think yeah in terms of series because there are some movies out there that adopt certain animes sure yeah the rurouni kenshin movies yeah the rurouni kenshin movies are great but you know one piece is harder i think to adapt for yeah because it's a lot more fantastical right right but no still to your point there are still one piece is in contention with oh definitely as i i think as a show yes a show adaptation that it i think it's the best one yeah in terms of show adaptation is definitely i think the best one in terms of like anime in general adaptation it's like definitely like up there it's like top three minimum yeah i i would hear an argument minimum i would hear someone's argument yeah for sure um i the next adaptation that we'll probably be talking about is the avatar season two um which i didn't like season one nobody i sure didn't um but let me give it i think i dropped it it's it's not good um i think i dropped it i am gonna watch just to see if they improve but it's not good but um yeah i'm good with one piece season two close it out dr jace hi ryan Podcast Summary

Key Points:

  1. The podcast discusses Season 2 of the One Piece live-action series, covering arcs from Log Town through Drum Island, with hosts Dr. Jace, Grandmaster Hoob, and Dr. Mondo.
  2. The hosts agree Season 2 is stronger than Season 1 due to better cohesion and an overarching Baroque Works narrative, though they criticize some fantastical fights (e.g., Luffy vs. Wapol) while praising grounded ones (e.g., Zoro vs. 100 Baroque Works members).
  3. Log Town is deemed the weakest arc, with highlights like Zoro and Tashigi, Smoker's casting, and Easter eggs (Bartolomeo, Sabo) that don't ruin future surprises.
  4. Reverse Mountain and Laboon are praised for emotional flashbacks, including Brooke's cameo, and effective visual effects.
  5. Whiskey Peak excels with Zoro's fight, Vivi and Igaram's acting, and character moments, though violence is overemphasized to cater to newcomers.
  6. Little Garden features strong giant effects (Dorry and Brogy), Usopp's bravery arc, and a missed opportunity with Luffy's "instinct" moment against Mr.
  7. Drum Island is the best arc, with Chopper's adorable design, a well-executed tragic backstory, and strong performances (e.g., Kureha), but lacks emphasis on the kingdom's doctor shortage and has an anticlimactic finale with Wapol.
  8. Zoro's portrayal is criticized as too stoic and underdeveloped, with a need for more goofy moments, while Chopper's practical effects (e.g., Monster Point) are acceptable but need improvement.
