Introducing Inside La Place de Bordeaux

La Place de Bordeaux is an ancient trading hub that has, for 800 years, served as the central marketplace for fine Bordeaux wines, linking local producers with merchants and collectors worldwide. Despite its critical role in the global fine wine industry, La Place remains opaque, with its operations, negotiations, and membership shrouded in mystery. The system involves key intermediaries like courtiers and négociants, and its influence now extends beyond Bordeaux, attracting winemakers from Tuscany, Napa Valley, and other regions. A new seven-episode podcast series, "Inside La Place de Bordeaux," hosted by Pauline de Gav and Felicity Carter, seeks to illuminate this institution. Through interviews with wine critics, iconic estates, courtiers, négociants, and international importers, the podcast explores La Place’s culture, negotiations, and outsized impact on fine wine markets. The series launches April 16, 2024, on Spotify and Apple, accompanied by articles and a newsletter. It was produced with support from CVB, a leading Bordeaux négociant, which granted editorial freedom. The podcast aims to answer key questions about how La Place works, why it endures, and who controls access to this exclusive club, offering unprecedented insight into the world’s most important wine marketplace.
