291: Infamous Reddit Crimes Ft. Angela Giarratana & Amanda Lehan-Canto

This episode explores several disturbing yet real Reddit stories that begin as ordinary incidents and evolve into crimes or deeply abusive relationships. The first case involves a woman whose sourdough baguettes vanish overnight, leading to a community theory that a neighbor is breaking in through a ceiling vent—confirmed when the intruder is arrested. A second story reveals a woman who discovers a person living in a crawl space behind her hotel mirror, highlighting dangers in shared spaces and the vulnerability of hotel rooms. A third, heavier story details a paramedic who stalked and manipulated a domestic abuse survivor over three years, ultimately marrying her—a situation condemned as manipulative and abusive, despite initial intentions of care. The episode also highlights how Reddit helped solve a cold case, showing the power of online communities in solving real crimes. Themes of manipulation, stalking, and emotional control are central, with the hosts emphasizing the importance of recognizing red flags in relationships. They recommend taking a relationship health quiz and accessing resources like Love is Respect.org to identify abusive dynamics. The stories underscore how small, everyday events can spiral into serious consequences, urging listeners to remain vigilant, informed, and emotionally aware.

Hi, friends. Before we jump into this true crime episode with Angela and Amanda, just your reminder to subscribe. And if you like these stories that give the vibe of crimes from Reddit, we just dropped an eight-hour long compilation video of some of the most unhinged stories we've covered over the years. It's the video just before this one. I'll also link it in the description, but eight hours of crazy crimes. So you don't want to miss it. But other than that, thank you for being here and enjoy the episode. Is this a burlap dog? That is our emotional support pal. I'm obsessed with him. This set is so good. Thank you. Thank you so much. We're rolling, guys. Oh, hell yeah. Oh my god. Oh my god. We're home. We're home. We're Halloween. We're comfy. It's cozy. Look at this set. Have you named that guy or girl? No. That's Groms. Looks a little like the Reddit boy. What for Halloween? He does have kind of a Reddit boy face. He's cute. I like that. What would you name your burlap friend here? Buddy buddy or like a Billy. He feels like an E like a cutie. Could you could that be me and Amanda? Where? We could put name tags on him. Yeah. Wait, which one am I? Oh, they're both the same. You're on standing on a box. So that's you. Let's go, baby. I'm so excited to have you guys for this theme. I feel like I was debating co-hosts, forgetting into some true crime stories, crimes, that happened on the internet and then got solved, things like that and who better than the true crime lovers themselves? Mrs. True. And Mrs. Crime. Yes. Yes. And Mrs. True and you're Mrs. Crime. I love this. Mary too. I'm married. I think they got that. Yeah, they got it. But I'll say it again. And it's for my come not your comfort. I like I want to I want to like insert myself, though. I'm like, how do we make that a trio and like a little, a little Monagé. Wait, crime. Okay. Ready? We're all true crime stories. You're I'm stories. You're lady stories. Okay. Lady stories. I'm like, lady stories. They're all like female murders. There we go. They could be. They could be, you know, we'll see what the story takes up. I'm really I've been putting this theme off for quite some time. There's a lot of stories you come across on Reddit that start as relationship stories or an average post and then they start going a little south. They get a little darker. They turn into crimes themselves. And I think about past stories we've covered, whether it be the slug smoothie guy who was putting slugs in his girlfriend's smoothies. That's a crime. That is a crime. There's so so many stories that start this way or end this way. Reddit has also solved a lot of cold cases, one of which we'll talk about today. So we are getting into all things crimes from Reddit and just it's gonna be a doozy solving cold cases. I mean, it does make sense. It feels like even that's like one of the benefits. It's also on like your bucket list to solve a cold case. It's on mine. Like I desperately want to be like, you know what? I have four years to spare. I'm going to dive deep into this cold case. I feel like the three of us could. I think we could definitely highlight some cold cases at the very least to get the other internet sleuths rounded up and work in a way. I think we could really make a difference, but excited to share these crimes with you today. I'm so excited. Thank you for having us. Thank you for being here. You truly, I just feel just rejuvenated having you two in this room with me. You guys. You're just brother fresh air. Oh, we love you. We try. Look at us. I thought you're going to grab my hand. I wasn't. There was an air on your eyes. Oh, okay. All right, I'll never touch you. Oh, that's so interesting. I thought we were going to discuss a camaraderie. It was a moment there. That's why I'm over here and you're over there. That's fine. Let's dive in. (upbeat music) (upbeat music) - This episode is presented by State Farm. There's impressive, like instantly winning over your boyfriend's parents, and then there's impressive, like being smart about saving money for your dream home or a sweet new ride. And a great way to do that is to bundle home and auto with the State Farm personal price plan. Bundling, just another way to save with the personal price plan. Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there. Prices are based on ratings plans that vary by state. Covered options are selected by the customer. Availability, amount of discounts, and savings, and eligibility vary by state. We're starting on a little bit lighter of a foot, okay? - Okay. - So this is coming from our slash mystery. - Ooh. - It's titled, "Baggets are disappearing from my apartment without a trace, and I have no idea how or why." - Aladdin. (laughing) - Street rat. - There's a street rat just running about. - Didn't he take baguettes? - Sorry. - No, he did, he did. - I just wanna call it out 'cause I know it's gonna be a lot. - Yeah, of course. - First time Redditor here, and I've never been one of post things on the internet, but I'm genuinely so confused, and I need to figure this out for the sake of my own sanity. For a little background, I, 26 year old female, have recently gotten into sourdough bread making, and after some of my co-workers bought baguettes from me, my hobby became a successful side hustle. I get around 20 to 35 orders a day. Around two weeks ago, I baked exactly 50 baguettes, which I know because each baguette form/tray makes 10 baguettes, and I baked five forms, so 50. When all of the baguettes were done, I went to bed, and left them cool off on the counter. When I woke up, I immediately went to package the cooled baguettes, and I came up two baguettes short. So I recounted, yeah, only 48 baguettes. Because I always bake a few extra baguettes for myself, and to give the friends, this wasn't a problem, but I was still confused as to what happened a few days later, when the same thing happened again. Except I came up four baguettes short. The very next day, I took extra care to count out the baguettes, exactly 30. After they baked, I lined them up three equal rows of 10, so 30. I went to bed, and the next morning, each row only had nine. So 27 baguettes. This confirmed that the baguettes were, in fact, going missing. Honestly, I have no clue how they could be disappearing. I don't have any pets that could eat the bread, no roommates, or a partner to steal it, and no one other than myself has a key to my apartment. I highly doubt that anyone would be able to break in through my front door without me noticing, and while I do have a balcony, I'm on the fourth floor, so I doubt anyone would scale the building. A lot of them would. Yeah, he would. I do have neighbors that I suppose could access my balcony from theirs, but each balcony has about an eight foot gap. The door to my balcony does not lock, so if someone could get to my balcony, they would easily access the bread. The fact that anyone would ever break into a house to steal bread is so weird and unbelievable. I'm not a sleepwalker to my knowledge. I am not schizophrenic, and I am not on any medications, nor do I need to be. All of the reasonable answers to this mystery are so unlikely and frankly silly. I ordered a small hidden camera to see if the baguettes are truly being stolen. It should arrive tomorrow. I'm pretty sure I'm of sound mind. So if this happens again, I will really start to get scared. At this point, I really just need the Reddit community to help me solve this. I would greatly appreciate any of your theories and we'll hopefully update in a few days about the situation. Whoa, Reddit theories? Well, we have our theory that's pretty strong. Oh, Aladdin? Yes. Or big, strong wrap. Okay, that's what I'm just saying. Do you think Greg is legs? Okay. I had a thought that I don't know. Is she in New York? I don't know. Because rats are the size of human beings. They're cats. They're big. So like, I was thinking possibly a wrap, but like, it goes to and then for and it feels like it's adding up because he's slowly telling a new friend each time. So multiple rats are coming. He's going, we brought you in tonight. We go. And the guy goes, all right. Here you go. No, it's what's going. I mean, as someone that had a rat sneak into their house via an unscrewed drain cap under my sink, you will know very quickly if there's a rat in here. Okay, okay, okay. Like I set up a donut trap and there was shit all around the area. Like, they fucking, they poop everywhere. I found rats because I had a pumpkin and I kept Who's chewing the pumpkin? - Stop. - You're asking my roommates. I was like, "Is somebody take a little bite "to this freaking pumpkin?" - Oh, it's a rat. - Was it any of your house's pumpkin in your house? - Yeah, it was like my post-college apartment. There's four of us. And it was up on our pantry. - Okay. - And we get to be like, "Hey, someone keeps biting the pumpkin." - Or, okay. So the door is not locked by her balcony. Eight-foot gap, that sounds a little weird. - That's big. - Someone is getting through her balcony. - Isn't it concerning the door, doesn't it lock? - That is concerning. - Even though you're on the fourth floor, like I'd be like, "Hey landlord, let's go." - But like eight-foot gap? - That's a huge gap. - No, that's big. But what if there's like scaling down via a row? - How would they know that the bread is ready? - Could I tell you something crazy too? - I would put my laptop next to it and be like, "Is this a human or a rat?" - What do you mean? - What do you mean? - What do you mean? - What do you mean? - What the fuck do you mean? - What do you mean? - You put a laptop next to it. - I would be like, "Okay." - Like recording? - No, no. I'd put like jewelry or something. And I'd be like, "Oh, something more adaptable." - You can tell if it's a critter or a human. - Oh, you put your laptop next to bread and see which one they steal? - The camera's better. But I think if the laptop stays, you go, "Obviously it's an animal." I can't handle this theory. - Yeah, I think you have to put like a ring or something there. - You're a diamond ring. It's just their. - Peabox, the bag is. - As someone that's gotten their house broken into, they don't take the technology anymore. - Oh, 'cause of Apple ID. - They take gold. - They take gold. - So they can melt it down. - The boomers. - Designer bags they'll go for. - You're a theory. - Literally doesn't work out. - No, for sure. - No, for sure. - No, I do appreciate it. - She'll cut that part out. - My mind went to potentially carbon monoxide. - What are you saying? - Full of the bread. - Do you, have you heard the Reddit story about the guy who was like, I think someone's leaving me strange post-it notes in my apartment? He goes, "I think my landlord might be breaking in "and leaving me notes." He had a carbon monoxide leak and he was writing the notes to himself. And he didn't remember because the leak was so bad. - Oh, no, no. Wait, I thought you'd die immediately with the leak. He's very lucky to be alive. - So she's going out. She's carbon monoxide in her sweet little brain and she's having girl dinner every night with a big bag of it. - Wait, she would know because honey, she'd be bloated every day. - Hey, depends on how good the bread is. - Maybe she doesn't have a gluten allergy. - There. - Who are those angels? - Or maybe she's already bloated. - Who are those goddamn angels? - She's in her loodial phase. It's hard to tell. - Can I say one thing though? - It's amazing that her hobby now turns into she's baking 50 a day. - Yeah, I like the growth. - Honestly, I would love to know what sourdough starter she's using because that starter is per-a-dough day. - You can make your own, I've made one. - I'm going to buy a new one on Facebook Marketplace. That's my goal in the next week or two here. - The second you started. - You can make one from scratch. - The second you started reading the story. I went, I mean, it's going to talk about how much she loves to make it. You know what sucks is when someone knows you so well and then you're on a podcast with them. You know what I mean? You can't get away. You can't be cool. - I love her. - You can't be cool. - I love her. - She loves me. - I got a KitchenAid. - Tell them what you got. - Angela got me one. - I didn't. - I didn't. - Those are so expensive. - You literally got me one with the rest of the cast. - The whole Smoshcast. - Oh, that's so nice. - That's corny Miller and I've emote. - Yeah, yeah. - That was so sweet. We could have a bread off. Like they do on Great British Bake Off. We could make our own bread. - You know I love great bread off. - We can have Angela blind taste test. I love that and see who's is better. - Oh, that would be so fun. - We could be kind. - We could bake some baguettes. - I'm down. - That's fun. - You know what else I like to bake? Like sweet bread. - She didn't ask. - But she wanted to know. - I really like all breads. - All breads. I don't discriminate. But Pan de Muerto bread, dead bread. Bread of the dead. - Bread of the dead. - Bread of the dead. - They make for Dio de los Muertos. - Haven't had it. - Oh, so good. - Okay. - You can change it up. - Oh. - Yum yum yum. Lemon poppy seed bread. Okay. We're done because we're done. - I love this. - Let's figure out what's going on. - How is my gut? I think a Disney character. - And I think a massive rat family. - Okay. Comment. Everyone's invested. Immediately from the jump. - Of course. - I'm invested in this mystery. Immediately. When does the camera arrive tomorrow? O.P. responds. The camera is to arrive at around 4 p.m. So hopefully I'll be able to get it set up to video overnight. - Someone says, in another timeline, you want to know how baguettes are appearing. Does that make sense? - Yeah. If it's a time issue. - In another timeline, you just want to look at it. - Is it like an interstellar or something? - It's like the baguettes are blipping out and ending up in another timeline where she is. - Oh, and a lot of times we're at these baguettes. - Can I say something now that you just said that real quick? Another quick theory? - Yeah. - I hate to say it, but maybe a frogger. Do you know what I mean by a frogger? - A jumper. - Is it a frogger? - Hating Christians in? - A squatter? - A squatter. - A squatter. Aren't they called froggers? - I don't know. I think that's right. - Is there a frogger? - It's one of my biggest fears. Is somebody goes in your house and hides in your house and lives with you at the same time? - Frogging, frogger. - K-H-R-O-G-G-I-M-S-R-E. - Yes, I'm sorry. - Frogging your house. - Yeah. It is pronounced frogging like the frog ribbit. A person secretly living in someone else's house without their knowledge. It makes me want to throw up. And I hate to say it, but it's possible. - Yeah. A lot of people do comment about mental health. They quote OP, "I'm not schizophrenic." And they go, "Correction. You weren't schizophrenic." And OP says, "I have an appointment with my psychiatrist on Sunday, not specifically for this for my anxiety and trauma. I'll bring it up to be safe." So OP is like-- - OP is so honest. - Yeah, OP is so honest. I appreciate all the things you need to do. - So you guys, we get an update. - Thank God, if you were about to move on from the story, I'd walk out. Just kidding. - That's where we left us. We just have to imagine, you know, the next thing. First update. I have no idea if this is the right way to update. So please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I want to thank all of you that offered advice and theories. I checked my carbon monoxide detector, and it was fine. I don't use weed or even alcohol. I don't wake up full. So I really don't think I am the bread thief. - Okay. - Also, it doesn't party. - As for my landlord, I believe she would never do something like this. She's a very sweet middle-aged lady, and has never given me a reason to believe that she would go into the apartment without my knowledge. At this time, I am afraid that it is likely a human thief. - I fucking knew it. - Because of how neatly the baguettes disappeared. - Oh. - I've taken some precautions by barricading the front door, the balcony, and my bedroom door. Honestly, I don't feel unsafe, because I highly doubt a bread thief would try to kill me LOL. Because of my baking schedule, I did not bake today, but I set out 15 cookies on a plate to see if any disappear. They are oatmeal chocolate chip homemade. The camera should arrive at around 4pm tomorrow. I will also be baking tomorrow, and I will be able to set up a video. I ordered a lock for my balcony, but that won't arrive until next week. I have not contacted the police yet. I don't really have much evidence, and nothing else has gone missing. Wish me luck, I'll update tomorrow morning, and let you know if the cookies were taken. - Oh my God, can you imagine it's just Santa on the camera? - He's like, "I need bread throughout the week." - He's like, "It's exhausting to make so many toys." - That's Santa. - That's Santa. - Okay, update number two. I woke up this morning, safe, thank goodness. When I took down the barricade for my room and went to the kitchen, I checked to see if any of the cookies had gone missing. All 15 were still there. The balcony and front door barricades were both intact. This could mean a few things. One, rats don't like oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Two, the barricades stopped and intruder. Or three, the thief knows my baking schedule. Every other day breaks in, and because I'm baking today, we'll smell the bread and try to still bread again. I fear the third option is most likely. For now, I'll have to wait until the camera arrives. I'll update soon. She needs to unbarricate her doors and bake her bread and catch them on camera. - Update three. - I love this. The thief has been revealed. At around 1 a.m. in the morning, the cameras picked up some movement. When I looked at the live footage on the counter. - Live. - All caps. There was a man. A parenthesis worst case scenario. I fucking knew it. Oh my god, my body hurts. - So I'm a fully grown man. - A man. - A man. - A man. - A man. - A man. - A man. - A man. - A man. - A man. - A man. - Wait. Oh. Frogging. Frogging. Frogging. - He's waiting in the house. - Well, you don't know if you live there. Let's talk. - Let's talk. Let's talk. - Let's talk. - Let's talk. - Let's talk. So I called the police and I stayed in my room. While they were on the way, I was watching the man steal two baguettes. I wasn't crazy. And then it clocked to me how he got in. All caps. The huge vent on my ceiling. That's where he's smiling at me. I am fucking dead. I'm scared. This is a big fear of mine. Well, it happens. For context, the vent. I'm never baking again. Fuck bread. For context, the vent is almost directly above the refrigerator. He has been climbing out of the vent on to the refrigerator. Then the counter and lastly the floor. Oh my God. This was confirmed by watching him disappear. Oh my God. The police arrived maybe two minutes later. And when I explained what was going on, they went into the vent after him. Oh my God. Let's get up there. Get up there. He was arrested for breaking in. You want to get my bread a little pig? Sorry. And I pig. Hey little piggy. I was asked to go down to give a statement. This took a really long time, so sorry I couldn't update sooner. As to who this man is, he is one of my neighbors. (sighs) Because this is now legal thing, I don't think I should say much, but what I will say is that I never would have expected this from him. I didn't know him well at all, but he seemed nice enough. The thing is that I still can't figure out his motivation. Like, I know the baggots are good, but how do you figure out the vent and go on to break in and steal baggots? Obviously, I notified my land lady, and she was very understanding that I will be leaving. The officer said that I will be able to go and get my things later today, since I don't have anything else to do today. I'm going to see my psychiatrist and then stay at my friend's house until I can find a new apartment. Thank you so much for your support, ideas and funny comments. I'm giving you all metaphorical baggots. Why is she so chill? I love her, she's so, wait. Okay. So her neighbor smelled the fresh bread and went, I need to get some. I'm going to figure out the ventilation system. Why didn't he just knock on her door? And ask. - And we'll do anything. - Hey, can I buy a baggot? - Literally. - They will do anything, but ask a damn question. - Even if I never was like, "Hey, I can't really afford to pay you for it, but do you think I could have a baggot?" I'd be like, "Sure." - Yeah, no, here you go. - Even an anonymous letter would be better than trespass. - But he snuck, "Hey, that bruise was so nice, could you leave me some?" - What if she came out for water in the middle of the night? - She would have found him. - I can't believe she found this out via bread. - Bread. - He definitely must have smelled it. He definitely smelled it. - Yeah, but like, what is he like? - What kind of animal? So it, what is his name? Aladdin? (laughs) No mention of neighbor's name. We do get a recipe though. O.P. shares their baggot recipe. - Whoa, that's brave. - Yeah, it's really nice of her. - I've never used that recipe 'cause obviously it's too good. - It's too good and men are just gonna climb through your event and steal your bread. - Yeah. - I'm gonna try it. I was gonna make it for us today, but my sourdough started to die a couple weeks ago. - Oh, that sourdough starter is so hard. Can I give you a little tip? - King Arthur. - She didn't say it. - Yeah, she did. And you know what, I can see in her face. She really wants to do it. - That's the only flour I use. - Okay, get it once a week, keep it in the fridge. I forgot about it. - It's okay, get their baking school book. It's the best and it gives you a full breakdown on sourdough starter. And Angela, if you want this book, - Good luck, I don't think they'll sell it to you 'cause you're on nasty bitch. (laughs) They don't sell the books to demons, okay? (laughs) Anyways, they don't, we don't sell books to demons. - It's a bread-hating demon. - I'll share the recipe with you, Amanda, if you want it, you know? - Three hundred and seven hundred grams. - Your husband can guard the door. - Yeah. - I would love the recipe. - Yeah, you'll just get the fruit of our labor. - Yeah, exactly. - I'll share. - This is terrifying, really, really scary story. - I know, it's crazy. We do get one last update, but you go on first. - Just really fast, I want to say it's crazy. He did something so illegal and didn't get an illegal reward. You're not like stealing like big cash money. - Yeah. - You're doing something so against the law for bread. - Yeah, he's breaking and entering it's terrible. - Like a total, I think of what, like two, four, three baguettes? - Just pay, how much is she even charging? Baguettes should be like five bucks. - Okay, so we have a lot of them. - Maybe 10, I mean, like, even if it is on the upper end. - Right, that is 30 bucks, that is a lot. - So last update, I'm doing well today. It hit me that all of this happened when I went to my psychiatrist yesterday. She helped me process this as much as possible. Also, apparently, the thief is not able to pay his bail. So he will stay in jail until the court hearing, which makes me feel a lot safer. I'll try to update as soon as we get a verdict. - Yeah. - No update yet. This is coming from this year, just a couple months ago now. So hoping we'll get an update soon. OP is still active on Reddit posting in other subs, not addressing this anymore. So I think there's hope we'll get a final update on it. - Oh man, I was really missing those baguettes right now. - Like, now I'm looking at all the vents. I don't even think to check vents, because that's-- - I mean, that's screwed, too. - Yeah, and it's also just like a thing in movies. Like, I don't see people actively, that's why. - I think Frogging has been a big thing lately, where someone was like, my friend heard something loud in her attic, stuck her camera up there and look at the guy she found. - Go! - Yeah, have you seen the picture of the guy? - No, she didn't. - Have you seen this? - So I watched a horror movie about Frogging. I didn't know. - Was it the Helen Hunt one? - No, what was the Korean one that went really big? - Parasite. - Yeah. - That would be so good. Also, yes. So I think Frogging is absolutely terrifying. The thought of someone living in your house? - This is the man. There was a full, like, he had a bed and like, baby closet up there. - Oh God, it's so scary. - It's so scary. - He is like a collared shirt. - He hung up. Can I be completely real? - He has a wallet. - He has a fancy dinner for what? - That's his going out shirt. - This was his face when she caught him. Like, just terrifying. Like, you're in your attic and you see that face like. - I don't want an attic. Okay, I don't want an attic. I don't want a face mask. - I don't think anyone needs an attic. You don't need it. - Oh, you don't need to put your Christmas stuff up there. - No, because I'm wearing a holiday stuff there. That's so scary. This is why big houses scare the shit out of me. - Why do you need all that space? - You don't have more places for people to hide. - You don't. - Or a back house. - Do you guys check your beds for underneath your bed for your bed? - I just try to get there as fast as possible. I do a little hop. - I actually do too. - I'm like, I'm not, even when I go to my car. - So when I go to my car at night, you know, when you go to your car at night? - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. - I'm like, I kind of like look under and then I just like hop into the car. - Yep. - So no one, I should look under my car. - Do you think us listening to true crime or being so into true crime makes us more paranoid or makes us prepared? - I think that's a question a lot of us ask ourselves. - I'm not sure. - I do ask that myself this like once a year. I will say it makes me more curious, more like aware of my alibis. - Yeah, do a poll on that. - Like I love leaving my location on texting my friends what I'm doing 'cause if I ever get framed for murder, - You're an alibi. - I think about that all the time. - I go, oh I have RSVP to this party. Someone saw me. - No, they can't say I did anything back. - And there's so many people that are wrongly convicted sitting in prison rounds. - Oh, I know. - Like that's the scary part. - It's very scary. - There's a case I heard where this guy was convicted for murder. He's on like death row right now. He has a speeding ticket in another state at the time of the murder. How does that make any sense? - Well, we just need someone to get in there. - Yeah, speeding ticket. So you better keep your location on. - Yeah. - You better get a speeding ticket. - We should all be getting tickets all the time 'cause it shows where we are. - Let's get more parking tickets. A while parking tickets doesn't matter. - 'Cause you weren't with your vehicle. - Yeah, yeah. 'Cause you could totally be killing someone if you got a parking ticket. - Of course. It would actually make sense because you could set a guard in time. - I think it makes us more paranoid. - We'll do a poll. - We'll do a poll. - I think it depends also on your mental health of the month. It's kind of how I feel. - Sometimes I feel like with true crime, it's like you have to be an emotionally intelligent person to make sure you're not infantilizing it and using it for some weird-- - Yeah. - It's like a heavy subject. So you have to tread lightly. - And there are months, like we talked about this. There are months before you had your baby. - Yeah. - We would talk about your crime all the time. - Yeah. - And then post-partum, we don't really talk about your crime too much. - Not as much as we used to talk about it like every day. - You needed a little break. - It's funny. I needed a break because when you have another, when you have a child, it's just like your heart is outside of your body. So you feel like you can't protect them as much. - And well, it's so new. - It's so new. - It's so new. - You're so, like, rings. - Right now. - I need hormones, everything. - That's what I'm saying. - I'm back. - It's always changing. - It's your relationship. - Agreed. - And I think. - Yeah. - Yeah. - True crime is tough. It's tough and-- - It's tough, but I'm so fascinated in the way of like, what humans do and why-- - And why? - And the reasons and, yeah. - And there's a lot of fucked up shit in the criminal justice system. - Yep. - And stories like that are so important to tell. - I know. I really want to cover the Nolan Wells case and what his family is going through right now. - I just-- - Just to get justice is insane. - It's insane. - It's insane. And so, yeah. - They hired a similar aspect. - Yeah. - There's a highlighting, the, you know, inequality or, you know, the bungled system of it all. - Oh, it's just like-- - It's also like a lot of stories of like, women being really resilient and I kind of like those stories. - Yeah. - Yeah, kill me. She still made bread. - We won't kill you. 'Cause we do not want to get arrested or a parking ticket. - Yeah, my alibi is right here, right now. - This episode is brought to you by Oli. It's titled Florida Woman crawled out of my hotel mirror to rob me. I'm sorry. What? The many of you here, Florida woman. You already know. Oh, I'm in. I'm scared. I'm scared and spooked. This past Monday, my co-workers and I returned to our hotel room from a day of workout in the field. Rebecca and I walked to our rooms, and as we stood outside of our rooms, I opened mine and I saw someone in the bathroom. I said, "Hello?" Nobody answered. My first instinct was that I was a cleaning lady in there for some reason, and then I saw my bag with my clothes in her hand. I said to my co-worker, "There's a woman in my room." Then I asked the woman, "What are you doing with my stuff?" It gets a little fuzzy here because I can't remember everything I said and what she said, but she kept mumbling about how her key still worked, how it still worked, and that's how she got in. I was in shock, and she was obviously very flustered, having been caught mid robbery. She dropped my bags and fumbled around with her purse and a white plastic bag. By this time, my co-worker was behind me, watching all the insanity unfold. This woman was scrambling and walking towards the door and I said, "What's in the bag?" I was thinking it is probably my stuff, and so she said, "No, no, it's just my things. It's just my things. I'll show you." And so she did. I looked and I didn't see anything of mine, and so since I'm obviously in shock at this time, I just let her leave. "Oh no." I went into my room and it's been ransacked. I did a quick look-o-round to see if anything had been taken. All of my electronics were still there, then I went into the bathroom and I saw my underwear, my bikini, and my clothes shoved into my own bags randomly. Even my passport was shoved in there. Then I looked onto the counter and I saw that she'd gotten into my medication. I'm not sure what was going through my head at the moment, other than I wanted it back, so I ran out of the door to go find her. I ran to the laundry room downstairs and out to the sides of the hotel and I didn't see her. I realized I was never going to find her. So my co-worker and I went down to the lobby to tell them what happened and then we called the police. We went back to my room to wait and I noticed that there is a metal bat on my bed, a little larger than one of those novelty wooden bats you can get at a baseball game, but there's also a flashlight on the end. She must have left it behind in her hurry. She also left behind a necklace that must have fallen out of her bag when she was scrambling with mine. I was mostly freaking out at this point because I thought she'd gotten away with my medication that I need. The police get there and took our statements and looked around the room as well. One thing that I noticed was that there were bits of drywall in the sink and I pointed that out to the cops, but none of us really knew where it came from. We started looking at the door and the windows to see if she had pried her way in somehow, but there was nothing. So we all just kind of went with the idea that she had a spare key or something, even though the hotel front desk was adamant that there's no way that could be true. The officer that came brought two more officers back up because they thought the woman might still be in the vicinity. But after our statements were taken, there was nothing else they could do so they left. I sat down to finally make some calls to tell people, and as I'm on the phone, I'm thinking about the drywall in the sink and it still didn't make sense to me. So I'm on the phone looking at the drywall and the mirror on the wall right above it. And then it hit me. I got my coworker and it asked her to help me pull up this mirror on the wall and we took the mirror down. And there's a hole there just big enough for a desperate person to squeeze through. I asked Brian and Rebecca if I should call the cops again to let them know what I found. And my boss said there's still two cop cars in the parking lot. So I went down there to tell them and the female cop kind of rolled her eyes, but the young guy said I'll come check it out. They both came back up, looked in the hole and found a pillow, blankets, cigarettes, clothes, toothbrushes. This woman had been living in the wall behind my mirror for God knows how long. She had access to me in my room at all times. I know it might be hard to picture. There was a crawl space about two feet wide in between the two rows of rooms. One of the officers called the original officer to come back and take pictures of this. She explained to him what's going on and all I hear over the radio is no fucking way. He comes back, takes pictures and is just as mind blown as the rest of us. Obviously we packed immediately and left. What's even crazier is she probably had been there a long time. The last time we stayed at this hotel I would randomly smell cigarette smoke and I assumed someone was smoking in their bathroom and it was traveling through the vents, but nope. It was a person smoking just on the other side of my mirror. She had access to other rooms too. The holes in the walls were from a renovation that the hotel hadn't properly patched and had just covered with mirrors. She could have been hanging out in people's rooms when they were gone. She the hotel. Anyways, this was insane and now I'm taking a little time off. And do we do have a picture of the room? Oh my god, again, another frogging scenario, guys. She's popping through like sweet life is agon Cody. That's the hole she climbed through. The mirror is on the ground in front of the sink. That is the hole she was climbing through. Oh, like it is, that's tiny. It's very, she's pretty discreet. Jumping around. Wait, how is that, how is that enjoyable to lay there and go? Why is she gonna stop watching forensic files, I can just get in there. Why is that the hotel show always? Always, forensic files. I mean, she's definitely like how she get out of the rooms to get food. How's she getting back in? That's a good one. And then when you get back in, you got to like put the mirror somewhere so you can like close it out. Oh yeah, how does she get in and move the mirror back? I would almost wonder if like she waits until she knows the person is going to be gone for the day. And leaves the door like not fully shut and goes out, gets food, especially if there's like a continental breakfast at this hotel. She can't go. Yeah, she can go and stock up. And then she gets the mirror back. Her back is like her light and her. So when OP said though that the little bat looked like a flashlight, my college roommate had a big like it almost looked like a police flashlight and there was a taser at the end of it. You couldn't tell it was a taser unless you zapped it and then you'd see like the. Oh my god. Crank crack. She's probably got like this thing that she pops it like, but it still doesn't explain how she gets back in the hole and puts the mirror back. I know. Especially when you're breaking it. We are marvelous. We are resilient, especially without breaking it. Women are resilient. My God. She's just having a grand old time. She's like, where do you live? The hotel. Women break the glass ceiling. We have to break the wall. Get through them. She comes out. She's like, where are we party? She's the girl in the, what is it? It's a Sandra Bullock movie. Miss. Can you hear me? Miss. Can you hear me? I know the one. Gravity. No, not Sandra Bullock. I'm so stupid. Oh. Julia Roberts. Oh, pretty woman. Yes. She's pretty woman. Yes. Okay. That's so interesting. I couldn't break it. It wasn't. It wasn't. One connection. And I love it. I talk about it more. The hotel has to do in helping her. Oh, yeah. Or you have to do like any type of, like, you need a full sweep of the walls. But then, like, what do you do to all your guests? Like, you had to-- Drama ties them. Yeah, my God. It's going to be scary. Hey, breakfast. We just need tomorrow. To check behind your mirror real quick. We're giving you so many Mary out points. We're so sorry about a girl that lives in our walls. Yeah. And also, yeah. This girl has stayed in that exact hotel room, again. Yeah. That is something a little interesting. I stay at one hotel quite a bit when I traveled in New York for work. And I literally was just talking to my mother-in-law because she stays there now when they're in town. 'Cause we just love it. Yeah. And I was like, you guys, we should start keeping track of the rooms. Because she randomly sent me a picture of her view and I was like, what room are you in? And she got put in a room we had just stayed in. You should leave each other a little note. I was just going to say that. Behind the mirror. Little love notes. Maybe Carve a hole. Oh my God. I'm going to put little gifts. That would be so cute. Do a little pen pals. What kind of gifts? That would be something. I'm going to try it now. See how deep they clean. Just for the plot. Wow. That's really cute. That is horrifying. Yeah. This story is terrifying. With hotels. I mean, I was just in a hotel in Texas and I, I haven't been in a hotel in a while that had the, um, the joining door thing. Yeah. And you're like, what's this closet? And you're like, oh my God, it's another door? And they could come in. No. No. So I had an experience like that in, um, I was in Solving and we stayed at this cute little hotel and there was a, a joining door. And for some reason, I was like, I'm just going to like unlock it and make sure like the other side is closed and like we weren't even being noisy. We hadn't been there all night. We were just getting back from dinner and all of a sudden I hear like banging on the other side and like, shut the fuck up. And I don't like, I'm trying to recall exactly how it went down, but I remember like checking the dead bowl. But it's one of those that you couldn't really tell if it was locked or not. And so I opened it. And as soon as I opened it, I felt a push from the other side of the door. I was so. so scared, got it shot, locked it, immediately got a new hotel. Like I was like, I don't know, no, no, no, no, no. No, no, no, no, no, no. I don't like those adjoining. Like, I can't stay alone anymore. I can't stay alone anymore, I feel. They're for like families when you're traveling with like, you know, a bunch of kids. I have one with Tommy and Montreal. And we had one. And tell me to go, knock knock. Ready for breakfast? (laughing) Yeah, we had one at VidCon, and that's fine and fun, but if you don't know the other person. If you don't know the person on the other side of your domain. I just feel like at this point, they should limit the amount of adjoining rooms there are. And then you ask for like a family room. Just make family rooms. Like make family rooms like a little bed or something like that? Yeah, just make bigger rooms for families. Have fun. Make them affordable. Yeah, make them affordable. Thanks, hotels. There we go. Stop letting people live behind your mirrors. Okay, guys, we are getting a bit more serious here now. Okay. This is where we really clock into the true crime of it all. Okay. No more Aladdin. No, he's gone. This is coming from our/confessions. There is a trigger warning we have for mentions of an abusive relationship. So please just listen with care or skip if you can't handle that today. This is titled, "I stocked my wife for three years before we started dating." Oh my God. I'm a paramedic, and I was on a case for a young woman that was beaten nearly to death by her husband with golf clubs. She was hurt pretty bad. And incidents like this were common for them. This just happened to be one of their worst fights. I end up being called to their home a few more times before their marriage ended. After these incidents, I would find myself circling their neighborhood on my own time, listening for fights, making sure that he wasn't dragging her out in a body bag. If I saw them leave the house together, I would follow them places like the grocery store, the movies, restaurants. I found out that she was attending a local university and died accidentally bump into her and check in to see how she was doing. Honestly, I just started to appear in her life in random places. This went on for two years. Then, her husband passed away unexpectedly. But even though she was safe, I still found myself driving on her street daily. One day, I noticed her leaving the house with her friends and I followed them to a bar. It was nice to see that she was healing and to hear her laugh. The next week, I did the same thing. It got to the point where for months, I would make my friends go out with me to the same bars that she would go to. About two months into this, I decided to talk to her and try and get to know her. She was sweet, but her friends were dismissive and wanted me to leave her alone. Understandable, she had just gone out of a bad relationship, I backed off, but I still watched over her. She was safe, but she was definitely struggling mentally, obviously scarred from her marriage. She was partying almost every night and it was getting really concerning. For an entire year, I really started to force myself into her life. I'd be at the same bars as her, buying her drinks. I'd show up at the same store as her and make conversation. Instead of driving, I'd start running in her neighborhood so I could accidentally run into her. Oh my God. My theory was that she was a fragile person and easily manipulated. My mindset was that I should pray on this vulnerable woman and manipulate her into being with me. Instead of one of the assholes she was seen at the time so that I know she'd be safe. Eventually, it worked and she gave me a chance. Now we're married, but I'm starting to feel really shitty about our circumstances and how she doesn't know that I had basically stalked her life for three years. I do think she's catching on because every now and then I'll slip up and acknowledge that I know something that I shouldn't and I wouldn't know if I hadn't been watching her every move. Oh my God. I had good intentions, but can't help but feel like I'm a bad guy for doing all of this. Yes, a thousand million hours in that. A thousand percent, you are a bad dude. I'm sorry, I'm taking one side of this. You're horrible. This is a very bad dude. You did abuse in another way. There's a sentence in there that's vile. Which one? Everything was like kind of bad, but not too bad, but no, it was bad. And then something came out disgusting and. Instead of one of the assholes that she was seen at the time so that I know she'd be safe. Pray, pray, pray on her. On this song was a broken fragile woman. He did not see who she really was at all. In fact, you are just as abusive as the other guy in a different sense. You're not seeing her as a woman. You're seeing her as a pray fragile little fawn that you can just control. It's insane. This is terrible. This is like horrifying the way. I'm shocked this person has like any type of conscious. Like aware because it's crazy. I'm typing this to be honest. I think it's very weird that he's so aware of this. Yeah, because Hillary says pray. He had like a Prince charming like wanna be like POV at the top. I know. Well, in paramedic helping people, I, you know, I only discovered her because I went to her house because of this abuse. Or like the part where he's like her friends didn't like me and I thought that was understandable. So I stepped away. Yeah. And he just flips and he's like, so then I manipulated her and I used her weakness for my benefit. I feel like some people are like, oh, that's so sweet. He saved her. I feel like I'd probably come across this as a movie and be like, what? I know. I will say. So the Reddit account is nine months old. This post is only a month old. And there's not an extensive post history to be like, oh, this person was, you know, karma farming on Reddit. And honestly, a post like this would do the opposite of karma farming. Like, you're going to get downvoted into smithereens by posting this because people are going to be like, this is deranged, really bad abuse of behavior, internet. Do your thing. Yeah. I mean, of course, she said, yes, you hunted her for three years. She probably was like, maybe I guess the universe is like bringing you to me. But no, he's just forced his way in. It's fake. Your relationship was built on the context of you stalking and manipulating her. I mean, I see, I see you being an EMT and being like, wow, that was awful. I'm like going around to like check in on her and be like, Hey, I'm just checking in, making sure everything's okay. Also, what as a friend, what bothers me is the way he describes her, describing her with things like weak, like just because you're in a terrible circumstance, you're not weak. That doesn't make her her circumstance. Yes. She isn't weak because she was in domestic abuse. No. Yes. And so praying on her for that is disgusting. It's terrible to do that because it is very, very difficult to get out of a domestic abusive relationship. Very difficult. Women who are in it are not weak. They're not victims to be prayed upon to, I understand the sentiment of him like star. I think what happens here, I'm trying, I'm trying to figure this out, but I think it started with him being like, I want to take care of this person, which is like a romanticized role. Like we see it in so many. There was a new movie I just honestly, where a guy was just like helping this woman who was so in a bad spot from another man. And it was like she was just so fragile. And they couldn't help it. Make out against the door. And they're just so romanticized in their own head. And then all of a sudden, the way he's talking, he can't even tell that he's like a full prayer. You've become what you hated. Yes. I know a lot of the comments are just like, bro, what the fuck? He manipulated a domestic abuse survivor into marrying him. The things we do for love, that marriage is sure to stick to the landing, hope another guardian angel is watching out for her, especially should crack form. I figure you'll stop being the good kind of stalker when she decides to leave you. There you go. I mean, honestly, tell me if I'm getting too big here. It's kind of reminding me of like, no matter how much attention you give to somebody and how much care you have for them, it could still be the wrong intention. Like, you know, like, like the Gypsy Rose mom, where it's like, oh, like, like, I care so much about you. Yeah. That now I'm going to cross boundaries. My chosen by proxy is a very interesting, yes, where you're like, oh, it comes out of love and it comes out of care. Yeah. But then all of a sudden, no matter what, even if you don't have bad intentions, what you're doing is like, so wrong. Yes. I mean, there's the saying the road to hell is paved with good intentions. There you go. And it's just, I don't know. Wow, I think I just realized what that means. I was like, I've heard that a thousand times, but now I'm like, yeah. That makes sense. It's too fits. We do get an update from him. Oh, boy. Oh, my God. I hope he comes clean. I bet he was killed on the internet at it. She knows now someone sent her the post. So how did someone know who she was? I mean, EMT husband passed, you know, history of domestic abuse, that husband died, remarried. I mean, it's a very specific story that, you know, if I knew my friend, like the girls are on Reddit these days. No, I'm so glad. So the only people looking out for her are friends. I know. Sorry. I mean, they clearly caught a vibe from the guy being like, no, no, no. Okay. Okay. And this is, could you imagine getting this Reddit thread? Another fucking round of trauma. Yeah. Update. She had no idea until she saw the post. She is understandably. upset, but we're going to try and work things out. I am a little worried she's going to leave me, but if she wants to leave, I understand she's currently out of work, so she will be staying here, no matter what for a little while. Update 2. She left with the baby and the dog. Baby? I don't know where she went, but she's gone. Final update. She came back. Like I said, she is right where she wants to be. We are going to work this out amongst ourselves. Like you said, she's right where she wants to be. This guy is bad news, but there is a baby involved now. And that gets really, really complicated. I don't fault her for going back. I mean, like you said, it is very, very difficult for people to leave bad relationships. I think on average, it takes seven attempts. It is not easy. I get messages from listeners all the time that this podcast has shown them that their relationship has some red flags or isn't the healthyest. And you know, they I've had stories shared with me where it was really difficult to leave. But it's just it's really hard. She has a baby in the mix. And I couldn't imagine being a Singaporean. Oh, he said she's currently out of work. So we don't even know if there's financial abuse now involved where it's like he's the sole breadwinner and what means does she even have to leave because he's keeping, you know, the purse strings tight. I don't like what did he say? Again, I already said she's right where she wants to be. Yeah, it's what I said. She's right where she want. She didn't tell us that. I don't believe in her from her at all. Yeah. And hopefully, you know, she found the post. Hopefully this is just, you know, her plan. And it's unknown to him. But she's, you know, stashing money away, creating a safe exit plan. Yeah. You know, and like sometimes the safest exit plan is not saying anything and just disappearing truly. The most dangerous time for a lot of people in these relationships is what they say they're going to leave is when they say they're going to leave or attempt to leave. Oh, yeah. Oh, as we know, made on Netflix. No, market quality. No. So good. Oh, made. Made. Yes. Yeah. And she can be ID. Yeah. And she kind of like slowly tries to get out. Yeah. It's so hard. It's really hard. And I do think that's what it is most dangerous when you do say you're going to leave because we listen to a lot of true crime, the three of us. And I feel like it always comes when family members go, she was about to leave. She was about to leave. Yeah. And it's just possession, control, like some of these men just think women are, they own them that they're their objects. Or if I can't have you, no one can. And it's just like, or this like good guy syndrome that I think blinds them a little bit like that's like her. She can't be with anyone else because I'm her savior. Yeah. When there's like really bad guys, I'm not one of those. I'm going to like nonstop take care of her and never give her privacy. Yeah. Oh, I know. It's terrible. It's really, it's really bad. There is a quiz. I like to talk about this quiz. It's on love is respect dot org. And it's just a relationship quiz that everyone should go take no matter how healthy you think your relationship is. You answer these questions. And it, at the end, just kind of gives you like information of like, yeah, you know, it's not the healthiest. And some of the questions are like, does your partner get mad if you want to go out with your friends? Like it's very thought provoking that like you might not even realize it's not healthy. It's normal for you. But you then take this quiz and it's like, Oh, okay. I'm starting to see some signs. It also has a lot of safeguards in place. So if you go to the website, hit the escape key twice. It just immediately goes back to Google and doesn't show you were ever there. So it is a really safe place to go and take it. There's resources there. If you need them love is respect dot org. Yeah. That's amazing. So if you feel that alarm bells are ringing for you, please go and take that quiz. It will be linked in the show notes for this episode as well. That's awesome. That's awesome. And do what she did with the, I mean, before it got, they've got married is like having good friends around you. But it's fun to talk to you. Challenge you too. It's like challenge you and ask you questions and yeah, I'm scared to talk to you. But you always keep your friends close. Like if you have someone a partner or anyone that is like, you shouldn't talk to your friends. You shouldn't talk to your family. They're the problem. Bad. That is the beginning of shouldn't be any sort of relationship. Yeah. I feel for her. You too. I hope we get a post from her someday. That is like, hey, you saw this post. That was about me. She goes, that play was about me. People do see their post sometimes and come out the other side and like, hey, blah, blah, blah. Like it could happen. Yeah. Wow. And she knows it exists now. So Reddit is wild. It really is. Okay. This next one, obviously, heavy. This one is probably the heaviest story. I think I've come across on Reddit. It does need a trigger warning for murder. This also does contain mentions of suicide and suicidal ideation. It is a very heavy post that then devolves into a crime. And so please just listen with care. And if you can't handle it, please skip to the last story. It is that case, that Reddit IMJER help solve a cold case. So it is a more uplifting ending to this, this show. Okay. So this next post is coming from our slash relationship advice. It's titled, I'm 30 male, having a hard time coping with my wife, 29 female, having cheated on me with our neighbor, 51 male. Okay. It has been 476 days since I confronted her about it. How do I know? Because every time I catch myself thinking about it, I tell myself it's only been X days. Maybe you won't think about it tomorrow. So to go back to the beginning, I'd just taken on a new project and new responsibilities at work. I was working a lot of hours, 60 plus per week and was noticeably stressed. It was in May of 2015 that I noticed that she had added a password to her phone. When confronted about it, she told me it was because she was planning my father's day present and didn't want to ruin the surprise. About a week later, she came to me and told me that she felt guilty, keeping a big secret from me, and told me that she was having our neighbor, a contractor, build a home office for me as my present. It struck me as odd. As in our six years together, she has never said she felt guilty about anything and always insists that she never regrets anything in her life. Time goes on, her phone is still password protected, and things don't feel right. I see her using her phone and smiling to herself more and more often, but when I ask her what she's doing, she says nothing and puts her phone away. So one morning, I wait for her to get in the shower, and I grab her phone before it requires the password. I go through her messages and find that she's text in the neighbor, quote, "I am all covered in frosting. You want to lick it off?" There were no other messages to the neighbor, but I found out later that was because she had set up her phone to delete messages after a certain amount of time. I felt uncomfortable with it, but I knew she had a perverted sense of humor, and I thought she would never do anything to hurt me. More time goes by, and the neighbor is spending more and more time at our house, but the office is being completed, slower and slower. I can't help but worry that something isn't right, so I start checking her location using Google Timeline. It was at this point that I realized there are large gaps in her GPS history because she was turning off her phone's GPS. Fast forward to July, and at this point, the paranoia is driving me nuts, so I tell her that I need to install a new antivirus on her phone. While she hasn't unlocked for me, I install anti-theft software, so I can remotely turn the GPS back on and set up AT&T message backup and restore, so I can read all of her text messages from that point on my computer. The next day, my mother asked to spend time with my two kids, so my wife drops them off with her and has the day to herself. I watched my wife's activity from work as she spends the day trying to meet up with the neighbor, but is unsuccessful because he is busy with another job site. That night, we get the kids back from my mom's house, and we go to dinner with the neighbor, his girlfriend, and his son. My wife and his girlfriend are having a good time drinking, laughing, and just joking around. His girlfriend mentions that she would like to see Magic Mike XXL. I say it's a good idea. I'll watch the kids, so my wife and her can go. So my wife and her go, and the neighbor and I go back to my house, so the kids can play video games together. The kids are back in my son's room playing games, and the neighbor is sitting across for me on the other couch. It is at this point that my wife starts texting him. She is describing sex acts that she would like to perform with him, and he is reciprocating. She tells him to check his snapchat, and at the same time, I get a snapchat from her too, and it is her fingering herself in a bathroom stall. They keep talking, trying to figure out when they can meet up and have sex. They decide on Monday morning after I go to work. So in my head, I had already planned to pretend to leave and circle back to catch them, but then they tell each other that they love each other, and it is all I can do to not leap off the couch and knock him out. But I contain myself and continue reading the conversation unfolding in front of me. Then he tells her, quote, you're my girl now, to which she replies, quote, always have been, ending with him writing, quote, and always will be. My wife and the neighbor's girlfriend returned from the movie, and I asked them politely to sit down. I then asked the kids to stay in my son's room and shut the door. I returned to the living room and I confront my wife and the neighbor. I say, quote, "So you two love each other, huh?" My wife goes into full-blown denial mode and the neighbor's girlfriend starts smacking him. I ask my wife if she has been texting him. She says, "No." So I show her the text messages. She admits to it but says it was the first time it had gone that far. I ask my wife if she has sent him pictures. She says, "No." So I show her the picture. She admits it but says it's the first time. I ask her if she's having sex with him and she says, "No." Because I didn't wait to catch them having sex together. I didn't have evidence to prove her wrong. So that one stayed unresolved. I tell her that I'm leaving her. She tells me that she will make sure I never see my kids again if I do. She planned on using the fact that I had attempted to harm myself in high school to prove me unfit to have children. She continues to say that I was my fault for being so busy with work and stressed out and that she just wanted someone she could talk to. Then she gives me an ultimatum to decide what I'm going to do or she will decide for me. The neighbor's girlfriend starts defending the two of them saying that it couldn't have been serious if they weren't having sex and that my wife and I are too perfect together to let this break us up. The neighbors go home and my wife and I argue for the rest of the night about what we're going to do. We go to bed separately, having not resolved anything. We keep going back and forth on the subject all weekend and finally settle on when we were going to separate temporarily while we figure out what we want. I was going to stay in the house and she was going to take the kids and go to her mom's house. That Monday I go to work and I get a text from her in the middle of a meeting with my bosses stating that she had explained things to our kids but that they were upset and I need to explain it to them also. I get home from work and I find my kids crying. She had told them that mommy had to move out because dad was mad at her. When my son wanted to stay with me, she told him that he can't. My son put it together that if mommy has to move out because I'm mad at her, that he must move out then because I must have been mad at him too. My daughter was crying because my son was. I don't think she was old enough to even understand what was happening. It was at that moment I realized that she was going to drag the kids through hell if I left her. So I swallowed my feelings and I begged her to stay. She agreed and insisted that I apologize to our neighbor since we were still going to need to hang out with them because our sons are good friends. I hate it but I do it anyway. We still hang out with them from time to time and they come to our various birthday and holiday parties but I do anything for my kids and I behave civil every time. Things die down for a while. I still think about it constantly. I worry how can I keep from making her so unhappy that she cheats on me again. Then almost a year from the original incident around Father's Day again, she sent him pictures again. She claims it was an accident that she meant to send them to me instead. I don't fully believe her but I move on anyways. Things have been quiet on that front for about four months now but I still think about it constantly. This is going to sound stupid but I feel like I have a part of my brain that I can't shut off that is always thinking. I used to use that to solve programming problems and it made me very good at my job but ever since this incident the only thing it thinks about is her and him and if I did the right thing. My job performance has suffered and I feel like I haven't gotten sleep in months. I'm afraid after this much time and the fact that I begged her back that to say that I wanted a divorce now would only make her more vindictive towards my children and I. I just feel like I've put myself so deep in a hole that I can never get back out. I haven't really talked to anyone about this. I didn't want to talk to my mom about it because I felt like she would treat my wife differently and I didn't need the two fighting anymore than they already do. I tried talking to one friend about it but his advice was to put my trust in God but that was not so much solace for me as I am an atheist so I have no clue what to do with my feelings or how to move on from this and that is the end of his post on relationship advice. Oh my God. That is awful. And so he's telling this post obviously no one has a crystal ball so everyone is giving their advice just based on this. And it's like what would our advice have been? You don't deserve this. You should move on. If I'm putting myself back in time like anyone listening to this story would have been like you do not deserve this. But I do but I do understand why he stays. Absolutely. I get why he stays now because of the kids. I'm like oh he would rather have his kids there with him than not have them be so upset the way they reacted. This is terrible. I know. Yeah so I imagine most of the responses. Yeah whatever. You don't deserve this leave her. I mean one of the top comments smack the shit out of that old man. Go to an attorney. I hope you saved all of the evidence and talk about ways to get custody of your kids. Your wife is a twat. Wow. He should get a lawyer as soon as he has all the information together. It's been over a year now and the wife knows he knows he has no more hidden cards and that element of surprise is gone. Unfortunately, OP made the wrong decision and caved to her black mailing even though he had good reasons to do it. Still wrong decision and given her more power in this scenario. I think the best thing he can do now is suck it up and keep on keeping on. I mean when I read these comments, credit I know the outcome. Sure. I read these comments. I'm like it felt to me like people just dug into him about like not necessarily just being supportive like hey you don't deserve this you should leave but almost being like. No being mean and mad at him. Yeah and I that's what's hard relationship advice because it's like you are you don't know someone's real relationship. You don't know what people are going through. You don't know. You don't know everything. I do understand people but I can't stand when people they act like they're fighting for you but then they're just being really mean and shaming you. Yeah. I mean there's a comment here. You have got to be absolutely kidding me. You stayed, question mark, exclamation, question mark. After that shit, you stayed fucking baffling. Wait, what do you mean? How is that baffling? The children, the kids. No, I think I mean commenting has become its own is a separate type of communication. Yes. Where it's like that's not how we speak to each other. No. And I think like especially empathy. What I love about you Morgan is the way you read. You just read so human. So I just hearing that but like some people don't have that like some people when they read stuff or even when they see stuff on the internet they cannot personalize it. I think they just go. Wow. Yes. Yes. Yes. It's easy to like oh it feels so detached. It's just a Reddit post. But you have to remember I think we all now like in today's times where like oh it's got to be fake. It's got to be fake. This is very clearly not fake. Yeah. So imagine anytime you're chiming in in the comments and giving advice. Who cares if you think it's fake. Imagine there is a real person on the other side of this that needs thoughtful genuine and pathetic advice. It's actually rather than you just shaming. Yeah. It's actually kind of crazy. They use this is what I must say is insane. But so much of Shakespeare when in theater school they'd be like it's meant to be read aloud. Do not read it like by yourself. It's meant to be said out loud. And I feel that way with a lot of Reddit posts. Like I can imagine being so judgmental in your own time. But then when you read it out loud and you hear a human heart. And especially you. Yeah. It's just like soft and sweet. You guys are gonna make me cry. No, but it's really truly. Thank you. And like I can't imagine people's weird internet holes where they're like in their little weird living room and you're like just judging people and you don't hear a human voice. Yeah. But then also I would be like oh you should I wouldn't be as crude as these comments. But I would be like oh he deserves better. Yeah. So that's what's what's complicated about this. That's where we would be at. I mean based on the comments. It almost feels like they ignored her behavior and any involvement on her part. I'm just going to turn hands to her. They just have to do that. Yeah. Yeah. Well that's really what he needs. Like this guy. Oh he needs you to wake him up. That's in that way for relationship advice. I'm being really vulnerable and opening up now. Yeah. I mean he opens the post. Like this is haunting him. He's waking up every day. Yeah. Another axon is calendar. Like here's another day. When you speak to that man that way you don't know him. Maybe his best friend can maybe speak that way. Like you're allowed to call me a bitch all you want because I love you. You are too. Yeah. But I don't mean it. But you know what I'm saying is like the way like people are like you deserve so much better girl. And you don't even know the girl. I wouldn't even speak to my sisters like that. Like if my sisters ask me for advice which is like usually you know it's it's rare for sisters to ask for advice. More they like need you to like listen and hear and just be there. But it's like I would never speak to them like that because It's so layered and complicated but again I know them but that's what that's what bothers me so about the internet and commenting. It's just like, you actually could do more damage. - Yeah. - And you gotta read it. Like I'm, you gotta make that person. - That's honestly a really good point you make though. It's like, these stories should be read out loud. Like if you, before you pop off in the comments, like read them out loud with yourself. If you're writing it at home, like, see what it really sounds like. So we do get an update. He says, instead of trying to fix something, she doesn't want to fix. She has refused counseling several times in the past before this even happened. I'm going to get myself and my kids out. I meet with an attorney next week. Thank you, everyone, for helping me see how far I had my head up my ass. - Hmm, okay. - And then we get update number two, which comes almost a month later. And this is where we get, again, very, very dark, trigger warning for murder. I would like to give a heartfelt and sincere thank you for the advice and support I've received here. No one could have foreseen the tragedy that resulted from me filing for divorce. You guys perform a wonderful service to those in need and I hope you continue to do so in the future. And then OP shares a link to a news article. The article is titled Montgomery County Mother kills her two young kids before stabbing herself in the neck, Sheriff says. The article goes on to detail. The user's experience. The user's name was Jason Inhell. So they detailed Jason's experience and they just share that a Montgomery County mother admitted to killing her two young children before trying to kill herself. Dispatchers received a 911 call around 4.30 a.m. Thursday morning from the mother, Brandy, who told the dispatcher she killed her two children and stabbed herself. Investigators say Tyler Seven and Charlie Three were killed in their bedroom. Brandy confessed to investigators that she killed her children in a, quote, matter of fact, tone of voice. The article goes on to say that the sheriff says there's no history of violence in the home. Neighbors never saw any signs of trouble. The family says that her husband asked for a divorce this week. The father was sleeping in the basement at the time of this. And it just goes on to describe that she was transported to a hospital, has not been transported to jail yet, she did survive. She survived. She survived. She survived. So obviously the community, like everyone in the rest of the article is just in chalk. - And it is in the house. - He was in the basement. - Oh. - Oh. - So. - Oh no. - He comes back and does give another update eventually. - On Reddit? - Uh-huh. - Wow. - Yeah. - I don't even know how he's of sound mind to be on Reddit, to go back to Reddit. I think people were like, I think at that point really questioning like, did this cause the harm? - Yeah, of course. - Did the Reddit post? I mean, he said no one could have foreseen this. He's not even blaming anyone. He's like, you guys do a great service, giving advice on this subreddit. Like do not blame yourselves. - Oh, okay. - It's crazy he said that before putting the article. - And that was the post. Literally there was nothing after he shared the article, like that was his post. And I mean, I guess like, what do you, like, I'm surprised he even came back. - Yeah. - Like, I mean, it's really just unfathomable, incomprehensible. I don't even know if I'm. - He's holding the right word over. - It's shattered forever changed. - Wow. - So he comes back, what does he say? - Yeah, so obviously a lot of people are commenting. I remember you OP very well. My heart felt sympathy on the loss of your two beautiful children. You were doing what you knew was right for the sake of your children. Unfortunately, your effort was thwarted, but don't ever start blaming yourself. Someone else did this, which was an act of cowardice and selfishness. So sounding off in the comments, you know, just so much support, so much grief with him. It's also like what that post said about a little bit ago, about no history of violence. - Yeah. - That's coming from the sheriff. - I think we can't like, because it's so scary to be like, oh no, we shouldn't have had him stand up for himself, right? And it's important to be like, context matters, right? This is a one in a million is what it feels like to me. Maybe I'm wrong, but like he had no, like, is this what I'm saying? - There was no warning signs. - No, no warning signs to that you would do this. - No, he had no idea. Because one could hear this and be like, oh, so no one should ever leave. Because anyone could do that. - Right, which is not saying that. - I'm not saying that. - That's not the message, because you hear this and you go like, this is so a bizarre case because she obviously wasn't in her right mind and he had no idea. - I wish we had more information of like, was it a conversation, was she giving signs that day? Like, was there any? - Yeah. - I don't know. I don't know like where she was at mentally. - So Jason does give a final update and does, I mean, shut as much light as he can on all of it. So, final update. The first thing you may notice is that this is being posted from a different account. I deleted the Jason and Hell account in a knee jerk reaction to see in my Reddit posts in the news. I guess the first question to answer is how am I doing? And to that, I would say I'm doing well. I have bad days, but I would like to think that is to be expected. It is just important that I or anyone going through something continue to use the support of friends and family as well as good coping skills to not let myself be completely defeated on those bad days. I won't lie, I struggled to get back where I am. For some time, I refused to sleep because of combination of fear of what I would wake up to and nightmares about that night. For a time, I used alcohol to sleep, but my family loved me enough to take it from me before it became a damaging and permanent habit. I was hospitalized because I did have thoughts of ending my life because I missed my children so much. From that, I learned that you should never be ashamed of your mental health and not seeking treatment will only make it worse, not better. We have all heard it, but if you or a loved one is struggling, seek immediate assistance, your life is too important to throw away in a moment of weakness. By putting off treatment, I only caused everything else in my life to suffer. I lost my job and became reclusive to my house, but don't worry, I have been back to work since December and I've nearly regained my former position in salary, so I am good and require no assistance. The second question would be how do I feel about the sentencing? That is something that is hard to answer because no matter what the sentencing, nothing will bring back my beloved children. Do I think she should have gotten the death penalty which Indiana has? No, I do not. She wanted to die and after nine years of giving her what she wanted when she wanted it, I was not going to give her another thing. Do I think the life sentence will have any appreciable effect on her? I don't know. One thing she has always stressed for the entire time that I knew her was that she lived her life without any regrets. Even after I caught her cheating on me, she continued to say that she had no regrets. As for my ex-in-laws, they continue to be a problem to this day. Shortly after everything happened, they changed the locks on the home I was renting from them with my property still inside. After trying to civilly negotiate the return of the property, it was required that I involve law enforcement. This is an ongoing legal battle. A member of the family accused me of stealing property that I had purchased from them prior to the death of my children and threatened to take action against me unless I paid double what I had already paid them. I alerted the authorities and as far as I know, that is resolved. They continue to make visiting my children's grave difficult. During the one-year anniversary, they sat in their truck and just watched me the whole time I was visiting the grave. Because of that, I don't visit the grave as often as I would like to. Fucking despicable. We're not even done, but I'm sorry, just despicable. If I can impart on you something I've learned through all of this is that you should always take the time to be with the ones you love. It doesn't matter if they're asking you to read the Pokey little puppy for the millionth time or asking you to place smash-brows even though you both know they will wipe the floor with you every time, just do it. Because you never know what time will be the last. Always make sure they know how much you love them. I had the fortune that the last thing my children ever heard me say was, I love you. Good night. I will see you in the morning. It's so heartbreak. Devastating. I'm like, what strength he has? Like, I can't even imagine. And to have your in-laws create more hell for you. The speckable. Yeah. Why did they do that? I miss, I literally thought. It seems like literally to torture him. What did he, literally? I don't understand. I don't understand. So like, I leave file charges. I mean, it wasn't even in his hands at that point. What I'm saying is like, I don't know. I don't know. I mean, she ended up getting 120 years. Obviously, he didn't want the death penalty. And I'm sure that was taken into consideration. But I don't know what he said was really powerful. When he said that. Him saying, I've given her what she wanted for this many years. And if she wants to not live with her, what she did, I don't want to just do what she wants. No. Don't know how he's like on Reddit writing, I mean, it's probably been some It's when he came back for the final update. It was two years later. And clearly gone through it, lost his job, mental health struggles, you know, suicidal ideation. It's a lot, now he's, you know, healing. You'll never be healed, but healing and I don't know. I think like having that support from a community, like Reddit, maybe this is cathartic for him because look at what he's dealing with his in-laws. Like, yeah, he's got his family and friends, but he's got his in-laws where he can't even go to the grave sites. I don't, I don't understand that. Yeah, that part's hard. Are they, so I'm assuming that the in-laws are blaming him for igniting all of this? Damn, call it. I mean, there are people that are so sick in the head where they, especially if it's their daughter. Their parents are get blind when they really do well. Like, you never should have initiated a divorce, which, no, that's not how it should have gone. Look at what you did. Look what your daughter did. This is on her and they can solely her. I also think like we've talked a lot about like the powers, the negative things of Reddit and the great things of Reddit. Like, when you are deeply hurt to want to talk about it because you know other people in some way can hear what you're going through and possibly maybe what you're going through can give somebody some type of hope. It's just something so powerful about. You just like want to tell the story. Yeah, community, you know, community. And it's like a crazy. It's how you process. Like everyone processes differently. Absolutely. And it sounds like, I mean, from the start before all this happened, it sounds like this is how you had to process. You had to process with a bunch of people that he didn't know. And there's like something about, I think there's a part of grief. It depends on like what's going on. But like anytime I've gone through like the deepest parts of my grief, there is always a phase I get into where I can't stop talking about them. Of course. I have to tell everybody, I completely agree. But it is, it's wild to have him come back to this. It's wild. And I think he kind of, you know, says at the top two where he's like, I deleted my original account out of a knee jerk reaction because I was seeing my red post on the news. Like he started this journey on Reddit not knowing this horrible tragedy was about to unfold in his life. And so it's like not to say that Reddit was the catalyst. I don't, I don't think that's the case at all. I think he very clearly says, I don't hold you guys responsible, like no one could have foreseen this, but I think there is part of the community and venting and the therapy of it all where it's like this is, you know, helpful for him in some way, getting it, getting it out there. And there is a message from a moderator on the sub two. We're using this post to draw attention to two things. Jason and Hal came to us seeking support. So we encourage anyone who can offer him support, especially local to him, to reach out alternatively. There's a GoFundMe page in memory of his children. The intent behind much of the tough love advice in the original thread was obvious to all of us reading the thread and uploading comments as well as to Jason himself. However, the tone used for quite a number of comments was unnecessarily harsh and may have failed to consider the reality of the situation as best as we could have known hindsight is 2020. Ultimately, this speaks to the fact that everyone participating here is doing so with limited information and should be open to the possibility that there's more than meets the eye, whenever providing guidance and advice going forward, all we ask is to please observe tone when providing advice and realize the potential for complications which might make any advice difficult to follow. Something which seems obvious to any one of us is rarely ever obvious to someone in the weeds of their relationship themselves. That said, thank you for supporting Jason and Hal, the way all of you did, especially in following up after his first update. Let's see if we can extend that support further. - Oh, God, this is so, yeah. - Yeah, I mean, this happened back in 2016. So the update, that last one came 2018. So he's been very removed since then. - It is wild that we don't have enough cases that we talk about where your inner, what you say, your tone on the internet and you talk to other people about their relationships, not just kids and teenagers and cyber bullying, but it also goes for adults. This didn't happen because of the Reddit comments, but it is just interesting to be like, the internet footprint of it all is just scary. - Yeah. - It's a big conversation I think that is now becoming a parent, but I think just when you are online giving advice, I mean, as the moderator reminded, think about the other implications or context that you might not know and just be kind. I think there's a tone in which you can say things that are received better or maybe more constructive. - I know this was really tough, but I'm just thinking a lot 'cause I always get excited when there's an update. And I'm like, that's somebody's life. - That's a good thing to say when you're commenting. This is someone's life. - Yeah, yeah. - When you comment, think about saying that to their face. - Yeah. - And ultimately, like what you said about your DMs is more empowering than like, I don't think we like in fantasized true crime and read this stuff because it's like, oh my God, there's a crazy update. It's more like, when we talk about these things, the amount of DMs you get and the amount of people that are like, hey, I heard this, it made this hard day bad or it made me realize that my relationship is in that great. And I mean, look, it's just, it's layered and it's not just in fancillizing. - It's awareness and it's talking about, yeah, but it's awareness and it's talking about human beings and cycles and-- - It keeps it like present to in mind. - And it's a good reminder for us. - I'm sorry, go on, I cut you off. - No, that's it. It's just like, I think it's good to talk about the cycles of human relationships and what people say and how things matter. It's important and I, I will say like, I go back to my thing where I'm like, how could he be back on Reddit? But now I'm like, oh, like everyone needs a community. And for him, Reddit is his community. And it's just like, be kind. Be kind and realize you're not getting the whole story. And this guy's reaching out for a reason. He needs help. - And that's what I think anyone on Reddit. If you're going to Reddit and you're posting, and I hate when people are jumping to like, I can't believe like talking about average relationship stories, not Jason. - Yeah. - But that's kind of how it started. And you know, I'll have some guests that are like, why would they go to Reddit? Why would they talk to their friends? Reddit is sometimes the best place for them. It's neutral. It's unbiased. They don't have to share something embarrassing or detrimental about someone or a relationship in their life. This is probably going to be the most constructive place for them. And so it's like, of course you'd go to Reddit. And thank God they did. Like in a lot of the stories, like, thank God they did go to Reddit. Thank God they had that support. And we're going to wrap it up on a positive note because this next one, it brought a lot of closure for a family. Thanks to the online community. Thanks to the internet, IMJR and Reddit. And it has sparked its own subreddit now that is helping solve cold cases. - Our dream. - Our dream. - This is our dream. - That's why I think I listen to True Crime. What it's really become for me is to highlight cases that still need resolutions and where maybe someone's listening and it's in their community and they can talk to family and friends. Do you remember this or share? And it really is like trying to bring closure and justice. And it's like, that healing is like, there's so many versions of healing. There's so many versions of how resilient humans are. - Yep. - In the worst cases. - Yep. - So this is coming originally from IMJR. I'm not sure if I'm pronouncing that right. I am GUR. It's titled, "Do you recognize me? I've been without my name for nearly 20 years." In June, 1995, I was involved in a fatal car accident in Emporia, Virginia. The driver fell asleep at the wheel. He had his ID on him, but I didn't. And his family did not know who I am. For 20 years, no one has come forward to identify me. I have adopted the identity of the Grateful Doe. At the time of the accident, I was wearing a Grateful Dead T-shirt. - Oh my God. - I had two Grateful Dead ticket stubs for the 24th and 25th of June shows at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. in my pocket. I had some money, a lighter, and two necklaces with me. A note was found in the vicinity of the accident addressed to Jason. Medical examiner suggested I might be between 16 and 25 years of age. Maybe we went to school together, live next door to one another, or maybe you saw me around town. Maybe you know of a missing person who fits my identity. Can you help me finish my journey? - Oh my God. - And they share pictures. They share pictures of a tattoo, it's like a star. They share pictures of the Grateful Dead T-shirt. Images that investigators shared when they were looking for answers back in 1995. - Whoa. - This post is coming from 2014. It's almost 20 years later. This has been a cold case for 20 years. - Whoa. - They share the note. Jason, sorry we had to go. See you around, call me. - No, no name. - Ticket steps. - No name after call me. - It says something. It's hard to read. It's like Caroline T and Caroline O. And then there's a little like image of like a character and it says buy. It's very special. Like you're thinking this could be Jason, but it was found in the vicinity, not the pocket of the person. So they don't even know if that's his name, or if it was his note. [BLANK_AUDIO] - Yeah, so then it goes on to add an edit. I'd like to apologize to anyone offended by my use of first person. There's a lot of questions regarding our dough. I'm new to Imjourn. I was unsure how long my descriptions could be. Furthermore, I have now only just learned how to edit. Frequently asked questions. One, grateful dough is deceased. Two, the number was called from the note. Oh, it returned no results. Three, DNA dental fingerprints returned no results. What? Four, the main photo is not an actual photo. It's a computer restoration. Five, missing persons throughout all of America have been thoroughly researched. If you would like to see a list of MPs who have been excluded as possibly being grateful dough, please visit the name us website. Okay, so the first person's confusing me. So basically the person OP wrote it as if they were grateful dough. But grateful doughs deceased. It was like, okay, okay. I think people were calling it out for maybe being dead. Dead driver. No driver died too. This is, this is a random. So somebody being like, hey, this is, was this, was this grateful dough in another car? I mean, it was kind of known as being like this weird thing of like, okay, this guy was driving back from the concert as well. There's another person that's unidentified in the car with tickets was this a random hitchhiker. The person that was driving the vehicle with grateful dough in it, they think fell asleep at the wheel, hit a tree, killed them both. Okay. Yeah. Okay. So the person who knows about this true crime, it's imagined if you were hooked onto a true crime story and then you wrote it as the person who died to post about it and just talk about it. Yeah. Okay. Okay. They were trying to write it from the first person. I think just, I kind of make it feel more like, please help me. Yeah. I kind of find. I completely understand now. Thank you. Yes. Okay. This went pretty viral on Imger, I will say. You can get up votes on Imger and there's a homepage and everything. It went viral. People saw the post and then we get an update. Oh my God. Hey, Imger. You may remember me. I posted this photo the other day asking for information that may lead to the identification of grateful dough, a young man who was killed after a car accident in Virginia in 1995. The grateful dough has been unidentified for close to 20 years now. The response that this initial post received was amazing. I never, ever, ever expected to receive so many views of votes or comments. And I cannot thank you all enough for asking questions, sending support. And even the negative comments, regardless of the type of comment, it was all exposure for a case that should have been closed a long time ago. After viewing this post, a wonderful user messaged me and stated that he believed he knew the young man in the photo. He told me that his name was Jason. He was about 17 or 18 years of age in 1994 and '95. The user went on to tell me that he had lived with Jason and a few other friends in Illinois in late 1994 to early 1995. In early 1995, Jason left. And the user had not heard from him since. The user went on to tell me about Jason. He worked at a local McDonald's and he was a huge fan of The Grateful Dead. He went on to tell me that he had made contact with the other friends who had lived with Jason. He even told me we might be able to get a photo of him. Another friend of this user saw my original post on Reddit and sent through some photos. The user told me on a number of occasions that the center computer restored image did not look too much like the Jason he knew. The photos on either side in the sketches provided, however, do. I received them this morning and after gaining permission, I am posting them here. You all deserved an update, so here it is. Let me be very clear here. Grateful Doe has not been ID'd. This is purely a lead. We are not certain of his identity just yet. This is just a lead. We are not certain if this young man is our Doe. Grateful Doe has not been ID'd, all caps. But they do share pictures of their Jason. Oh, it looks just like him. In it looks like you're right. It looks like the other photos on the other side. And he's literally in what looks to me like a bantee. Same kind of bantee that they shared on that. Oh, my God. This is so bizarre. Which makes me think like 20 years ago, did they put out this picture? I don't think they have the resources in the 90s to put out pictures. Remember there was a big thing with Drew Crime. It's like in the 90s, different states across state lines never communicated. Yes. Remember, like I saw this somewhere. What was that? State lines. They never shared any information. No one's talking. Because it was like Faxmachines. Yeah, killer. You could go to another state. And they wouldn't you would they wouldn't get your picture together. Yeah. It goes on to say like these pictures are from when he was living in Illinois nearby to the campus of the University of Illinois. However, it's possible that Jason was not from Illinois. It's believed that Jason was actually from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was a young, free hippie surfer. And he made a lot of close friends in Illinois through his warm and friendly personality. We're not sure just yet of Jason's family and we are trying to recall his surname or any other information that can be passed on to investigators. Because you also have to remember these are people seeing this post go viral and they're like, I knew with Jason 20 years ago. Yeah, right. And you're like, what was his last name? Yeah. Yeah. And there's pictures of the side by side of that. Oh, the second one is. And the sketch. And the first like this is this is wild. Yeah. So here's the composite side by side. This lead is obviously huge. Maybe one of the biggest that investigators into this 20 year old case have had. We're following it through with relevant law enforcement agencies as well as justice and missing persons. UID organizations. These photos have already been posted to web sleuth. I have asked there if they felt it was important to repost the photos and they believed it was. This case needs closure. So Imjur, I ask this of you. Do you recognize this young man in these photos? Have you ever seen him before? Was he your neighbor? Did he attend your school? Did you meet him at a grateful dead concert? There are three possibilities. This Jason may already be deceased and may not have been our grateful doe. This Jason may be alive and well. And if this is the case, I know three guys who would love to reconnect with you. This Jason may be our grateful doe. We may be able to put a 20 year cold case to rest. If you have any information at all, please message me or comment. I repeat, the grateful doe has not been IDed. We are investigating this further and evolving relevant law enforcement agencies. Look at these, look at these web detectives. I know. They're incredible. It's like a marvel they ever solved called cold cases before the internet. No, I think that's great. Reddit has solved a few. It's a marvel they ever saw in the case. I know, it's actually incredible. Reddit has solved a few cold cases. Now, I will say Reddit has done some harm in terms of helping solve crime, but like this is unreal. As web suits have, like everyone has theories and sometimes it does, it does do harm, but sometimes it's like, how amazing you didn't even know this person. Yeah. And you want to fight for them. I know. That's cool. And this inspired them to create the grateful doe subreddit. So now they start sharing things on Reddit, and I'll talk about what that sub has become in a minute. So update two, a woman comments on the forum, and she stated that she recognized the man in the photos, supplied by Jason's roommate and friends. She states that his name is Jason C, and that she is his mother. Shut up! She states that he was from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She states that he has been missing for 20 years. So it's looking like it's lining up. Could you imagine someone, maybe she found this or someone said to her, could you imagine it's your son who's missing, and then you get a post. This is like. Yeah. I mean, if you look at all the comments on Imger, like the top one, my boyfriend swears he hung around with Jason and Myrtle Beach. He knows his family and is trying to remember to get in touch. So like, I mean, just look, putting this out there. Everyone is connected by like a couple degrees of separation. I really think it's like only three degrees of separation. I know they say it's like six or seven. Yeah. Yeah. Like, I think we're all very connected. So it's like, this is getting put out there and it's like his mom then sees and comments. Oh my God. That must be why old. This is crazy. Yeah. He's been missing for 20 years. So it then goes on update three. Photos have been provided by the woman who provided lead number three. From these photos, it is believed that her son Jason Callahan is the young man in the photos provided to us. DNA has been provided to the medical examiners for testing. The testing will determine whether or not Jason Callahan is the grateful dough. This may take a few weeks or a few months. We need to remain patient. Jason Callahan now has a name us page. So this last update we have is coming from the mod of the grateful dough subreddit. The grateful dough has been positively identified as the missing man, Jason Callahan. Oh my God. Because also his mom did not know what happened to him. There wasn't even a missing person's report filed on him until his mom saw the imger post. So do they not have a relationship, you think? She just thought he's, I don't know. He's just a hippie spirit, off grid, like there was no missing. person report. That's why nothing was pinging and connecting. Oh, I see. She just thought he was living his life because you have to connect a Jane Doe to a missing person, but if you don't have a missing person, it's just that Jane was never going to get solved. There's like, there's a lot of projects now. There's the Doe project. Name us is really big where they're doing DNA tests on Jane and John Doe's to see if there's any familial ties out there, especially with 23 me ancestry. All these DNA kits, they're starting to be able to identify Jane and John Doe's based on tracing family members on public databases. Yep. So there's a lot of hope out there that people are going to continue to be identified, but the DNA testing did come back and it was confirmed to be Jason Callahan. Yeah, poor baby. His family has answers. He's been identified. Like, thanks to an Imjor post. I mean, a great reddit shirt. And it now it started this whole subreddit that just continues to do work. Internet sleuths coming together to try to find information on all these Jane and John Doe's and they're making a difference. I'm so happy. That's so awesome. That is a good ending. It's incredible. Yeah, it's incredible. I know this was a really big, heavy episode. So please practice some self-care. If you need any resources, whether it be domestic violence or a suicide hotline, all of those will be found in the description. Please take care of yourself. Each and every one of you is so valuable. And we love you. And on that note, until next time, guys. Bye. Bye. Go eat some bread and take care of yourself. , guys. [Music] [BLANK_AUDIO]

FAQs

A neighbor, who had been living in the ventilation system behind her apartment's mirror, stole her baguettes by sneaking in through a hole in the wall. The neighbor was arrested after being caught on camera.

The user noticed drywall fragments in the sink and, after removing the mirror, discovered a hole large enough for a person to squeeze through. The hole led to a crawl space where the neighbor had been living for a long time.

The neighbor reportedly smelled the fresh bread and was drawn to it, suggesting a desire to steal the baguettes, though no clear motive beyond the smell of food was provided.

Frogging refers to someone secretly living in another person's home without their knowledge. It appears in both the bread theft and the hotel mirror stories, highlighting the fear of undetected intrusion.

The experience led to a heightened awareness of hidden dangers in shared spaces and a personal commitment to checking for ventilation holes and hidden access points in future stays.

Both stories involve a hidden intruder who lives in a concealed space (ventilation or behind a mirror) and is discovered through observation and investigation, illustrating common themes of undetected intrusion.
