Do we beach? A lot of it. I went to just north of Vermont, took the guy's trip over to border first time. Baby plane? Potten? Potten. I know it. Just part of Quebec. It was flew in the Burlington, got a land of land, and then drove over to border. So you went up right up to 89, right there? I believe so. We helped. I'll tell you right now, it's always been the sport that the more emphatic you are, the more I think you're making a mistake, because there's so many unknowns. And with the transfer portal just being a new normal with this, there's certain things. It's hard for me to sign off on an offensive line, if I don't know, especially if I'm looking at you as, "Hey, can you win a national championship?" So there's some of these teams that I really, really like, but I'm like, "I can't say, hey, they're going to win a national championship until I see, say, what the old line looks like." I think Texas is a perfect example of that, especially when you think about going into last year. So I know you have your top five. Then you give me your top five, and then we'll start a different area in the kind of circle back around to where you have one and two. How's that sound? Okay. My top five, I do not have an SEC team in there, but it's Notre Dame, Indiana, Ohio State, Miami, Oregon. Okay. So one and a half ACC teams, I don't know what no people do with Notre Dame anymore. They put them in the ACC previews, which is really beneficial to the ACC, which is fine. So your big 10 order of the top three that are, these are clearly like the three teams we have in the first tier of big 10 play, at least the same part of this. That order, again, is what? Indie, Ohio State, Oregon? Correct. Yeah. Indie and on top. All right. I will hear arguments for any three of those big 10 teams being not only the best team in the big 10, but maybe even the best teams in the country. Let's go through it. Give me your concerns if we started with Ohio State. What we think are the good things, what we think are the bad things? First off, I get it right with all the preseason stuff, and that's why I think it's so crazy when people get so mad, but it comes down to, you know, are you ranking right now? Like what you think the teams are right now, or are you trying to get a little forecasting in there? Like that's where you move your teams up. That probably aren't going to be in the top team and be like, hey, see, I told you, I had them there. I'm looking at it right now is what I think of the teams. My personal opinion. With Ohio State, I look at a corner in your change on offense. I look at a guy that's been a mainstay of recruiting all those receivers in Heartline, taking off. You know, I really like Ryan Day. I think he's pretty stubborn in his ways, and I look at who he brings in and Arthur Smith who's pretty stubborn in his ways. So I just wonder about that. I'm not saying they cannot win in a national championship. They're at the top of the list for good reason. I just look at, again, the idea of the national championship team, right, with Sawyer and those guys had to replace, last year's team had to replace eight starters off that team. And we saw what happened. The defense was better. And that's what's crazy about this is really only at Ohio State or do they have the expectation that they could do that? So there's that again, like I'm pious, like I have them in the top three. I think they can win a national championship. But again, they got three of the top 11 draft picks. And those like aren't, you know, plug and play defensive end, like Arvail Reese was all over the place. Downs was probably as valuable a defensive player as there wasn't a country in multiple sports. And he did it on two different teams, including as a freshman Alabama, like where an ARO to put him, what they were able to run behind him in front of him. I think you're going to see that shine at the next level too. But the biggest concern is the offensive line. And when I look at saying, I love what he looks like now compared to last year. I thought he did look a little timid in those last couple of games, 10 sacks in the last two games. They gave up. They got manhandled by Indiana and Miami. And you know, a lasting impression will get the Oregon and what they look like the last time we saw him. I'm still scarred at being at that game. But that's, that's the concern. And then like, what's crazy though is only Ohio State could do. You start reading. All right, yeah, saying all right, Chris Henry's going to be the next one and Innes is there. I don't see a big name at tight end. You know, they brought him Max Clare last year at tight end and I've loved what I've seen from that position. What Ryan's days brought in as far as transfers there. I don't see a big name there. So I wonder about that helping on the edges with, with new tackles. And then like Bo Jackson, they're saying, running with the two. So they got another running back and possibly two more. So again, as only a host Ohio State could do, it's, it's my new, but it's different. And I think the guys that they lost, I need to see it. I want to see the secondary. I know Sanchez, the corner is the five star was the top of that class played a lot last year. I'm expect big things from him, but I just feel better about say what Indiana has coming back. And that's why I have the Ohio State three. All right. I think the, the most important thing is there's no way like San is worse. I think he's going to be fantastic. At times last year, I thought he might be the best quarterback in college football. Now, granted, they were destroying everybody, but Bo Jackson is going to be fine. We already know what they have at receiver. And then three of the old line are coming back and two of them are all big 10 guys. So maybe, maybe it's, it's concern after them getting man handled in a way that you wouldn't expect, which is kind of a thing that's been happening at Ohio State up front more than you would ever expect. But again, this has happened in a few different spots. I know like we're going to touch on some of these SEC teams. You're like, how come they can't block anymore? But I was wondering if you think like this is a worthy point of Ohio State in the way the big 10 schedule can go at some time. So they have that Texas game where both teams can't convert a third or fourth down. Texas actually outgained them. They have the turnover, whatever, big statement win, kind of derails, Texas playoff hopes with all that. And then after that, Ohio State, their next 11 games, Outscores are opponents 39 to 8. And you can. Compare that with, I think Indiana having to be challenged by Iowa in that game, which I thought was a tough game for them at a really nice win. The Oregon game, even though Mendoza was in control, that was a tough place that, you know, it's just tough to go into Austin and beat this Oregon team the last few years. They get that done. And then they have that Penn State thriller. I do wonder if it was a bit of a wake of call for Ohio State to go up against Indiana and granted, like, it would have been tied if they had made the field go kick in the championship game, but they didn't look as good as them. They didn't look as physical. That's, that's an alarming thing with two years in a signany that Indiana can look like the more physical team than Ohio State. I wonder if you think if there's anything to going that long, not being challenged, playing that slower tempo, and then it being more of a wake up call for them, then say it would be for Indiana with a couple of the challenges that they have. Yeah, I think it's a huge aspect. And then you look, you fast forward to this year where it's like, all right, you're getting tested early. You're going on the road early to Texas Iowa, you know, you have a tougher schedule. There's no bones about it. But when you look, it also is crazy, Ryan, is you look, you mentioned, no, Ohio State Texas game last year. Like, I was there, I'm watching it. I'm like, man, this is toe to toe. And I'm like, I think these teams are gonna be different, say, a month from now. Like, they're playing the guys that have experience 'cause it's such a big game and they're gonna let the young guys play, you know, as the season moves on and they grow more and they have more practice time. But what happened after that game, it was like, all right, you mentioned the combined score. It was like, Ohio State got rid of Texas. They're loaded. Their defense is gonna be better than the national championship. And then you look at Texas who goes to Florida loses, Arches getting his brains beat in. And it's like, yeah, Texas, they're not any good. I'm like, they were right there. If you think Ohio State's that good, then why isn't Texas right there? They had the ball inside the 10-yard line twice and couldn't score a touchdown. So it's crazy the way we look at these auto-conferents, you know, early games. But yeah, with Ohio State, I think there was a sense. I also thought they played it close to the vest. Knowing that their defense was so dominant and the teams that they were planning is just weren't gonna be able to assemble. I look at Coach Sabin and what he did at those early years with Bama when he was bringing along, you know, young QBs where it's like, all right, we're gonna play it close to the vest. We know our defense is superior and that's how we're gonna win games. We're gonna finally beat teams down with our depth. So along the road, you also had to say it in his first year as a start. And, you know, he's got this guy to throw to him. This guy, I get it, but you're still going on the road to Washington who's a capable team. You don't want to screw it up. You know, they're not gonna score a touchdown. All right, we'll get the ball on the red zone and then we'll make a couple plays. And let's get out of here where to win. So I saw you saw that over the course of the season and it wasn't this wow thing that we had from the playoff run, the year prior where to Ohio State. So yeah, I think you're guilty of that. And I think Ohio State coaches want to get punched in the face. They want to see how they're reacting, especially with so much change over you. You know, we hear about all these quarterbacks that we'll talk about, right? And, you know, you're reading stuff at camps like, "Ah, he didn't look that great." And I'm like, "Well, half the battle of half these quarterbacks is their elusiveness." And when you have a control practice, they can't do that. The whistles are blown. It's a touch, you know, two hand touch on the quarterback or, you know, in some cases, don't even touch the quarterback, stay away from him. So I think there's two sides to it. But Ohio State is going to be put to the test a lot earlier. And I think you're going to need your offense to step up as opposed to relying on that defense last year. - One of the differences, especially with the teams of the top this year in the AP, you know, Ohio State is number one in the AP, which I probably shouldn't have mentioned a little bit earlier here. But when you go back to the top eight last year, I think you have four teams where you're going. You're just assuming that the quarterback's going to work out in a situation where we have no idea. You know, Notre Dame was in that group, obviously, Ohio State. I feel really good about saying. It's kind of my biggest takeaway from this. It seems impossible to replace the defensive talent that they've lost, but they've already done it before. And one of my favorite transfers in the entire portal thing is another Bama to Columbus guy here in Kueh Rousseau, who I was watching tape of him this morning. And there's a broadcast in the Georgia game where you can tell the way Herb Street talks about Kueh to the defensive coaches for Bama, where it's like, hey, we're not saying he's the best, but the eyes in Herb Street's line is like, you can see the coaches like the eyes line up a little bit. Like he, he might be the most talented guy here in Tuscaloosa right now. And look, he got hurt last year, he missed two months, but it was funny because when he first visited Ohio State, he was like, I don't I'm not sure. And then he would like appreciated Ohio State that much more. But now it's kind of turning this thing it just looks so bad for Bama because it's Caleb, it's Kueh. It's another defensive line. And saying gets thrown into that mix as well. But, you know, look, those guys wouldn't have left. If somebody else are still down there in Tuscaloosa. Okay, so that brings us to Indiana 'cause I like Hoover going into this, like, I don't, you're a liar. If you're telling me you like Mendoza better, I really like Hoover. I think it's a perfect fit. And they have the offensive line. They have the defensive line. They have the transfers that receiver to go with Becker. I don't, honestly, I think there's a good argument that the AP should have voted Indiana number one, not just because they're repeating champs. - I'm always cognizant of that with the defending champ. I think, you know, we should not just throw them away, but it's hard to do now with all the change over. And I get where people, you know, wanna run and take things from, you know, moves that are made or guys leaving and stuff like that. But I look at what the, and I'm amazed to at the idea of like last year, 20, I believe in the preseason AP. And, you know, getting a gist of what they were gonna be. All right, there's Mendoza, not a lot of moves, you know, Perse nois, Cooper's been there, Sarat was a J.M.U. guy. The running backs, you know, they brought in the kid from Maryland. And, you know, a couple of trash, Kougan, obviously, was the big name on the offensive line. But then I look at what they lost. But, you know, from a national championship team, and you're looking at the NFL draft, you're like, yup, drafted, drafted, drafted, drafted. It's like, wow, I had no idea before the season that those guys are gonna be NFL players. And then I go to the game at Oregon, and I'm like, holy cow, like Aiden Fisher can run. This Jones kid is a player, daily upfront, man handled Oregon. So, I look at what they lost this year coming into this year, but I look at what they replaced it with, man. And, Nick Marsh, I know everyone's talking about Cam Coleman as a receiver, transfer, like Nick Marsh is an absolute stud. And you go back and look at who he was playing with at Michigan State, and probably the worst years, we've seen a Michigan State in a long time, and still producing, and doing it against Big Ten and NFL talent. I think it's a step up. Becker is an absolute stud that gets thrown away, you know, in this run when Sarat and Cooper were missing time that he relied. I mean, that Penn State game before the Cooper catch, he makes a catch on the sideline. That's incredible. And you're like, who's this guy? So, and you look at the offensive line. Sustainable pieces that are back from a team that has success, and then they get guys from Wisconsin. The running backs, you know, they get turbo in, they got a program kid. And when you mention Hoover, he's asked to do a ton man at TCU. And yeah, you're gonna have inflated numbers when he looks at interceptions. But a quarterback's best friend in the world is a play where he could turn his back to the defense and hand it off. And Indiana instills that. It's a part of their offense. You've heard Signati take shots at TCU, well, saying, well, he's gonna have a run game here. And I firmly believe that, man. Like, I think that's a huge deal. And I look at Julian Sain is being able to do that this year. That's a huge step. Where he's just like, you know what, it's first and 10. Let me assess things. They're running guys in and out here, hand it off. Let's get six yards and have a manageable down. That's the bread and butter of Indiana's offense. They run the football, they open things up in the past game. And then I look at the defense. Like Ponds is probably, at the end of the year, probably my favorite player in college football. And he was a monster asset. And what he was able to do at that size, because people kept challenging him. And he won challenge after challenge. But you rotate, you know, you're, they play a field corner and a boundary corner. The other kid will come over. He was the kid that had this interception that's sealing national championship. You still have Jones on the defense. And then what every single coach in America wants, if you ask them, if you could have one thing added to your team right now, defense of line depth. And now with this five and five, and getting daily back and the other kid back, like line to scrimmage, man, that's what's real now. And you look at how Ohio State buckled up two years ago. And that runs because of their line play on both sides. And chip figuring out the pieces to move on the offensive line and being able to run the ball. And make windows wide open for will Howard. And in the end of last year, I mean, watching that Rose Bowl back, I mean, I said the other day on our pocket, like they made Alabama submit. Like, and they just kept taking it to him. It wasn't pretty. And then the scoreboard is like, wow, that's what it turned into. And, you know, they knocked a quarterback out who now you read, it was 20 pounds lighter than he was to start the year, which nobody talks about when they talk about the demise of Alabama season last year. So, yeah, I just love the way Alabama is built. I look at the coordinators getting the no-Brian Haines. He's a different dude. The way he adapts to his talent. And also what your offense is bringing to a table. Just scary mix, man. And I just, I think there's a trust there. And you know, some days he's gonna have guys motivated. So I think right now they're built better than any other team. And it's mostly because of those lines of scrimmage. - Hey, I'm gonna give you an Oregon stat here, which is pretty incredible. This is from Bill Connelly.
ESPN. So if you look at teams that have not played in the national championship over the last three years, Oregon is 37 and zero against teams that have ended up in the national title game. Oregon is one and five. So you want to talk about the Indiana win against Bama being alarming for Bama, the game against Ohio State, which even though it was close, like you don't, you didn't end that game going, oh, I feel great about Ohio State after this, like, what just happened there? You know, they get their ass kicked a little bit, even though the score didn't indicate it that way. And then you have the Oregon game from the jump. You're like, okay, this is an absolute nightmare here. Oregon is another team, like you think about who they have back at receiver, like Stuart's going to be back, Moore's going to be back. So you already have a proven player in there in Dante Moore, who's like, tier the top of the Heisman finalist stuff. There's so many guys in the defense that you like, the remade secondary that goes with two studs that are already in place there on top, everything else. And so it's another one of these teams with all these hopes where I'm like, okay, so they're going to have a tackle from Yale. So what's, where do you put the offensive line here? Is it in the Ohio State conversation? Is it in the Texas conversation? Because it feels like Indiana from an offensive line standpoint is less concerning at least today in August than it is until we start seeing how these teams look. Exactly. That's that's the way I look at things. And Oregon, you know, I put behind Ohio State because there's, I mean, look at that offensive line. There were guys that got drafted that, you know, at the beginning of the year, like, yeah, okay, that right guards nice. And he's okay. And all right. Well, I get Connerley two years ago, but now you got to do it again. And when you look at Oregon, the other side of the line of scrimmage is the one that opens my eyes more. Because when you, everyone knows they're four down linemen now, you know, they're the big, they're, you know, the most known for some coming into the sport this year. But when you dig in and you look at who rotated with those guys, they're all gone. You know, Notre Dame got one, I think Mississippi got one, Georgia got one, maybe LSU. So in a day and age where you have to have that, they, they've earned the old Pax 12. I wouldn't worry about it, but now you're in the big 10, you know, you got to go to USC early in the year. You know, you, you, you play, you go to Columbus, like, you, you need depth there. And the other thing I look at with Oregon is, is coordinator change, double coordinator change. And those were special dudes, man, like, we'll talk about, you know, least favorite things that you're moving around. But like, Will Stein is a guy who was off its coordinator, Oregon took the Kentucky job. Like, I looked at him as having one of the toughest jobs at a major program when he took that job after Dillingham left because that year, Dillingham had bonics playing better than I've ever seen bonics ever. And then Will Stein comes in, it's like, all right, you're the new office coordinator. All right. What do I do? I just had a kid come off for career, he's going to be an NFL draft pick. Like, do I bring my offense and make him do that? Or I, I got to humble myself and do what they're doing. And I got to do the learning. And I thought he did an unbelievable job. And then you have Dante waiting in the wings. So I look at the double coordinator change, I look at the line to scrimmage where I want to see more. Dante's going to put up numbers. There's no doubt you mentioned Evan Stewart, who's who fresh off an injury, supposedly looks incredible. More was the number one receiver in last year's class. Saw him go on the road early. I also will say Oregon didn't have their full strength at the end of last year. You know, they were down to their third or fourth running back in that peach bowl. Obviously, the receivers were done. You know, I think Cedique was, you know, on his last limb, like being asked to do more and more. And you know, I always asked the quarterback people, you know, you know, McShane and those guys that do the evaluations. It was like, do you have a check box in there where it's like yes or no for like fourth quarter on the road. Like that's, I want to see that. And Dante, like I just want to see more, you know, like I'm at the Penn State game, you know, had chances to nail that game away, didn't get it done. Makes, you know, four or five unbelievable throws at the end of Iowa saves their season there. But I just want to see more from Dante more, you know, at that position, I get it. He's got the experience. He's got the traits. His size looks a lot better. He's built better. So that's where it comes into me when we're talking about all these quarterbacks. I just want more from Dante. And I'm curious how fast we'll see that with the with the questions that I have as far as the coordinators in the line play and protection. You have Notre Dame number one. Why do you think they're winning the national championship? I think the defense is the best in the country. I think the offensive line will be a top two, maybe top group in the country. I think CJ Carr takes the monster step this year. I look back in what he looked like against Miami in the first half, compared to say in the second half of A&M, where he's in a shootout and he's got to get this thing going. But I also look at a game, you know, against USC where his guys helped them out. He didn't play well on that stage. But you talk to people around the program and he's got the goods. He's got it. If people want to use that term. But I also look at Dembrock. The offensive coordinator there as a guy I think that gets passed over so much. You look at the places he's gone and the people he's worked with in the success rate he's had. I'm not going to worry about the running backs at Notre Dame. Like I'm just not going to worry about who's getting the ball at Notre Dame or Oregon or Ohio State or Michigan. Like I'm just not going to worry about that. So if that's what you're pointing to is the two run backs. I get it. We haven't had, you know, two run backs taken in the first round. I don't even know. I saw this stat. I think it's over 20 years. But I'm not going to worry about that. But the defense, Leonard Moore's the best player in sport, in my opinion. And you look at the linebackers back in the defensive line. I look at, you know, the edge guys that are a year old. They're going to they look ridiculous in the videos I've seen at how big and fast and strong they are. And Ryan, I might be looking too far into something or trying to take a point into it. But like I absolutely hated the decision not to play in the bowl game last year. You know, whatever that reason it was, I thought it looked pretty selfish. But I will say this, being on bad teams or underachieving teams in college and being a part of that, it brings a totally different mindset to your off season workouts. Like coaches don't have to be the asshole and get in your face and make sure you're finishing past the line or, you know, doing an extra sprint. Like there's a mentality there where it's like, we're not letting this happen again. I think that's instilled in you. I hear you talk about the NBA all the time in series play where it's, you know, a built-in motivation or, you know, you can't calibrate, you know, what a team is up 1.0 as opposed to down 0.1. And I think that's like kind of along the lines here in Motivate. I think these guys are old enough. They're getting paid now. And I think there's an expectation at Notre Dame where they've taken this thing by the reins and they're ready to go and they're built for it. And on top of that, you know, when you're piecing these top four or five teams, I think they're all in the same category. Yeah, I'll look at the schedule and I, Miami's schedule is probably easier than Notre Names, but I think they're going to be able to do what they want against a lot of their competition. And on top of that, they don't really play any quarterbacks. So I think that defense is going to feast and only get better. And I hate saying extra motivation, you know, when the ball gets kicked off, it gets kicked off, but there's something about me in Notre Dame that has a bad taste that I'm willing to back. Yeah, the strength of schedule stuff, you know, between Miami and Notre Dame on this one, like I see Notre Dame in the mid 50s, 60s, Miami generally is considered a little bit tougher, but it's not like we're talking about the top 20 throwing schedule. And then of course, things will play out a little differently. And so having Miami 2, obviously no issue with it. And the thing is with Mensa, when I look at his stats after the fact, I'm like, this guy is so good. And yet when I watch, I'm like, I'm not sure. And I don't know if that's sometimes watching too many games, watching the Illinois game. We're beginning of the year. I'm like, yeah, yeah. And then, you know, they lose the Twain game with all of the storylines and on the table, considering what Duke had done to them and then raids them. But then look, lights it up against Clemson, the Sun Bowl game. So there's a lot that's in there. I'm, I'm asking you like, am I wrong to think the stats are actually like an like a rounding up of who he's been. Because the stats are awesome for him. And I'm like, God, I don't know that I think of him that way. But obviously it's a no brainer to bring him in there. I'm not criticizing at all. And I expect he's going to be great with Miami as well. But sometimes, I'll just look at some of the stuff being like, God, I don't know that I felt that many. Like, I don't know that I felt like that was the guy that I watched every Saturday. I also think he does every single thing better than back. I really, I mean, I'm all right. We're talking about my favorite guy here back. So I should love the men's up here. DePaul accuracy. And also somebody I forgot where I read it. Somebody was really breaking down. It was like completion percentage based on drops. And he had the highest. So it meant like if he didn't have as many drops or accuracy, you know, where the ball was accurate and did it go right. His
his numbers would have been that much better. So I look at as an upgrade, I don't doubt Alex Maribel, the offensive line coach, figuring out the offensive line. They're not going to have NFL guys right away, but they got a five star tackle that like when Maribel, who's his thought of, and then on top of that, you have Mario, like when those guys are like, he's plugging in and playing, I'm like, oh, I guess he's got the goods. So I'm not worried about that. And then I know it's crazy to, to say a defense is going to stay as good when you lose a bayonet mezzador, but I look at, you know, what the new DC did and I look at just the speed and the guys they, I mean, Trayor's still there. And then the kid from Ohio, Boston College, is an absolute killer at safety. Like people are going to just go crazy for him. I think it's Omar Hopkins. So I look at them as being right there, and I think Malachi, you know, he's going to be able to do whatever he wants with that schedule like I was saying throw a flyer at him for the highest betroth. He's going to be throwing passes, running them punt returns, like he's going to be able to do a lot. And he looks like he got thicker. I love his mindset when you talk to him, he, there's not a lot there. But man, when you put on the tape or watch him in person, he's just different man. He's not your six, five guy, but I mean, just makes play after play after play. So I don't move Miami down that much far and they're right there, they're right there. And if they don't win the ACC this year, then they shouldn't be allowed in the playoffs. Like we haven't seen it. We'll see them win a coverage championship game. That has to end this year. They're absolutely loaded. >> Give me, other than that Notre Dame, there's no one else that's ranked right now in the schedule. In Notre Dame, you get the BYU trip, you have the Miami game, they've got SMU later in the season as well. So the strength and schedule stuff that I've looked at has Notre Dame with the week or schedule between the two. And of course, we all realize that these things can change. But I mean, if this doesn't line up for Miami again this year. And that's where the ranking stuff can drive me crazy sometimes because it's like, all right, are you, are you ranking these teams to your point? Like who you think and win this whole thing, what you think is happening right now? Or is that why Penn State's 18th? Because the schedule is fucking dog shit. Real quick, do you want Penn State in the playoffs? I kind of do. >> Yeah. Just to be like, yeah, cool guys, awesome. >> They're in that tier, that next tier of, I'm starting to think that two of those teams could get in when you, I hate that I'm not doing it because I'm not putting Iowa in that tier and every time I do it, they make me look dumb. But there's a tier of Michigan, Washington, USC Penn State. I think they all play each other, which is awesome. So I see where you're saying, you've been on this Penn State thing with the schedule since it came out, I love it. But I look at that turnover and I'm like, I just, the rollercoaster at Penn State was on. I remember the day, the Saturday after Franklin got fired. We went to Famille and he's like, I would think it's probably going to be one of the mats. It's Matt, rule or Matt Campbell. And then it just took off. Like they weren't even considered, they, you know, rule said no. And then it was NFL guys and all these major college people that were saying no, then it was like this, the talking thing was going to lead BYU and you're like, they're not going to have a coach. And then to end up with Matt Campbell, I think is a monstrous win from what it possibly was. And knowing that it's Penn State. So I think there's some verification there. I also, you know, would love to see a story about the Penn State guys that stayed because I think that's an awesome story. You could do that at Auburn, you could do that at Ole Miss. But I just, I think there's some verification there about who stayed, who came with them. And I've just always been a Rocco Beck fan. The way he's gone about it. It's not the prettiest. He's not going to value it as arm. But being at Iowa State and winning games like he did, for him to be on this stage at such a prestigious program with history is really cool to see. So yeah, I would be fine with Penn State being in the playoffs and then being like, all right, let's see what you got now. Yeah, right. Again, the Bill Conley stuff that I keep referencing, like the continuity charts and the returning production, all that kind of stuff is like really good and then he, like, makes this point on how Penn State, sure, like they're bringing in all these guys from Iowa State and I love the Rocco Beck store. I like Rocco Beck games. But he makes a really good point. It's like, okay, even though there's this like implied continuity here, the talent, the general talent across the board is being brought in from Iowa State. We're at ranked in these supposed disappointing Penn State years. The talent level is always considered like a pretty significant level above what Campbell was doing at Iowa State. I think the Campbell story is huge for them because it's like, wait, is this actually going to happen? And then you realize like the boosters of places like this aren't actually going to let this happen. But then there was even a time with Campbell, it was like, did he miss his window of being kind of the hot guy? And then he lands it obviously a prestigious place that doesn't play Indiana, doesn't play Oregon, doesn't play Ohio State. Granted, they've got USC, they've got Michigan there. I think they've got Washington as well. But out of comfort for them is never anybody. And I think there's like if Campbell can like write it and the two games go their way and they're sitting there at ten and two, like they're going to end up in the playoffs. Although we need to always assume who the other two teams are or the other teams in the ten and two category. These and Canes has turned in 30 this month to celebrate the milestone. So I could just say two extra chicken fingers. I don't care. No one's in charge of me. Raising Canes, chicken fingers, one love. So we made it 30 plus minutes and we haven't talked about an SEC team because look, I am with you. I cannot make the case for any of the teams ahead of at least those three in the big 10. I'm a little surprised that you didn't just find a way to put one of them in your top five, which again, I'm not like arguing with you or being mad about it. Georgia was the AP's number three team. Texas was the AP's five. I think Indiana is too low in the AP and coaches pole at six, although they did get first place votes. Georgia and Texas did not. Then there's A&M, then it's kind of Ole Miss and then it's just like a run of SEC teams where let's face it, a lot of us don't know what to do with them. If you have to make an argument for the best team in the SEC, who is it right now? It's so hard to do because Georgia is just manhandled Texas and everything they do. But I look at the idea, I mean, this Goosby News is huge, there's a left tack, it was a pro prospect for Texas who went down in practice and they said, now it's going to be a bone bruise, he should be ready for a house, and that's huge because that's my biggest question. What Texas was the offensive line? I don't think they're going to have your typical roll your sleeves up and get after your ass offensive line. They haven't had that, but they've won plenty of games not doing that, but they need it to be better. It's got to be better because when you watch Texas back from last year, I mentioned how I was thinking earlier, they didn't realize who they kept playing different guys up front and Arch is just getting battered and hit and there's a play, the second and the last play of the game against Florida is a guy running right down the middle of the field and he doesn't see him because he's got his eyes down on the offensive line and it just took them a while. All the sark shifts and motions to get guys in space, you didn't see it because he was trying to simplify things for Arch. Obviously, on top of that, everybody put Arch in the Heisman ceremony before the season started. I just think it was a whirlwind that they thought they could possibly see happening, but it just went way faster and they dug themselves out of some trenches at Kentucky and Mississippi State where I give them credit for winning. If you lose those, it's a whole nother thing you got to answer to, but I look at what they've given to Arch for toys. I mean, Cam Collins, an absolute specimen you've seen the videos. He is that good for anybody that maybe got it lost in the Auburn stuff. What you were talking about was at Marshall, Michigan State and what he was dealing with. It's the same thing for Coleman where you run through like them trying to figure out who's going to be running the offense every single week. Coleman is that special. I mean, how many guys would you put ahead of him? Obviously, it's Jeremiah Smith. It's Tony.
Miami, I don't know, outside of those two that I'm going to say like emphatically, like I know Ryan Williams, freshman year Ryan Williams, I would put ahead of him, but Cam Coleman is that dude? Yep. It's an absolute home run transfer portal deal, especially with already the stuff that they've had in place there. And this is, you know, I think about it, you know, the kid that the Packers drafted, he had a good season for Sarkit, Texas. I'm thinking about other receivers and I, they don't come to the level that Cam Coleman is. And it's funny, you know, last year Coach Saban is just telling a story about having Sark on his staff. And when they had Mac Jones, and then he's like, and they lose Jaylen Waddle, he's out for the year. And Saban's just like, man, we got a young quarterback, he has played a lot, he's down, you know, maybe our most valuable receiver. And Sark literally was just like, couldn't be more excited. And Saban's like, what, what's the, why are you so, why are you so, all right with this? And he's like, we're going to be fine. Devote Smith, we have Devote Smith. He's going to win the highest trophy now. So just be ready because he's going to get fed the ball. And what happens is Devote Smith gets force fed like an animal. And he's, and he's either returning punch and he has a, you know, the last receiver to win it. And so now I think about Sark getting a piece like that. And I'm like, well, Cam Coleman, I know he got paid pretty handsomely, he, they're going to get their money's worth out of him as long as he stays healthy. And I'm like, that's exactly what arch needs. That's exactly what Sark wants to, to have that guy, you know, to, you know, look at the NFL level. Like, you know, you look at, go through receiving groups. It's like, all right, who's the one, who's the one a, they got a one a. So I look at Texas as having the pieces. I also think there could be a, you know, a learning curve. Like Simmons is as good as there is off the edge in the sport. But Will's coming in, you know, it's Will Muschamp coming back to Texas. And I think Sark, you know, wanted more of an attacking style and, you know, to play these hyper speed games. And Will Muschamp's going to do that. Is it going to be pretty early on? I don't know. Is it going to be effective enough to be Ohio State? I would think so. But you have, you know, these changes where it's like, okay, we're going to, we're going to have some changes here and we're going to, we're going to go for it. You know, all gas, no brakes is what Sark says. You're going to get that style this year. And why I would have them over Georgia, I just could, I think, big play capability. I look at Georgia having more of a foundation now when he comes to offensive line. Like those guys that are playing, they have the five, like they want to play in that position. You know, where each guy has a position, they're not worried about who's rolling the right guard or left tackle. And depth on defense. You saw that last year. I thought Kirby was really good at SEC media talking about, you know, you didn't get the quarterback on the ground. You know, that's not enough. That's not the Georgia standard. He's like, we got to him. He's like, but we didn't make plays off of it. And so I think there's an airy confidence about, you know, Kirby and his group this year because they don't have the wild factor. You know, Gunner Stockton's as solid as there is. So they're going to methodically beat you down. And I think they're totally fine with that. They're not going out and getting a cam comb and at wide receiver. I think he's instilled in his program like, we're going to, people are going to get compensated for, but we're going to go about it this way. And I think you see that in his team. And I just think it's been unfortunate the way their seasons have ended. You know, you hit a lightning rod against Trinidad last year in Sugar Bowl in the year before what no one talks about is they didn't have their quarterback. It was Gunner Stockton's first start against Notre Dame. So I know everybody wants to pound the SEC, but that's the champion in the last two years and that's what's happened to him. And I'm not taking anything from away from the teams that beat him. But that's what happens. And I think Kirby's more than happy to go about the way he's going about this season and instilling aggression standpoint that he likes to say. This is a good point to kind of like transition into the inevitable conversation here. But you know, if you compare the big 10 in the SEC, it's hard for me to argue any of the teams in there ahead of the three that we discussed, which I've already said. But normally, I'm not going into a year going like, hey, I think there's three teams that are emphatically better in the big 10 than any team in the SEC. But it's Texas in the old line because I'm not remotely worried about arch. I was watching this Dean Bruehler set up of these rips of arch and just how good he is. It's not his running, it's his mobility in the pocket. It's clearing the past rush with a step here, Tom Brady, where Tom Brady couldn't crack a five in the 40 and then it's like, yeah, but he's actually the most mobile quarterback inside of the pocket and some of the stuff that you see in this piece that he has up on the athletic. It's just really, really mature shit for a guy halfway through his first season figuring out. Let me get out of this rush, keep my head up and then just find myself into a throwing lane where I'm throwing with the anticipation, not throwing to an open receiver or throwing to a spot, hoping he's going to be open. So like I thought arch was having some decent statistical games that I would watch in the evening of last year that I thought were overrated and as the season progressed, I do, like if the old line is kind of just average with him having, it might be a blessing in disguise that he had to play with an old line that just couldn't hold up and that he had to figure out ways to keep himself alive back there. But on the SEC's bigger part of this, I'll tell you right now, like running through the schedules again, especially with the nine games now with the SEC, you can play out the exercise. Like when there's the big noon kickoff, big 10 game and then there's the NBC peacock like second big 10 game, put that up against the second best SEC game. Like I'm going to tell you, most weeks you're going to go, I can't believe like this is being billed is this awesome marquee, big 10 game. So the SEC has not had, despite my feeling of like one through the bottom of the conference is still deeper than the big 10, it's just so weird that we're now in a year for this and I can't point to this team that I think like is at that level. Doesn't mean the Georgia can't figure it out. Doesn't mean that LSU couldn't have this great season. I know people still like ANM a lot and maybe it's Texas, but I don't, I don't know. And that unknown part of it on top of like, Hey, Illinois beat Tennessee in a bowl game. They beat South Carolina before that. These bowl results between the two conferences is now years of this where you're not getting that 55 to three shit, you were like, why are we talking about this? So this shift has happened. And I wonder what it's going to look like a couple months in, like we'll probably just talk ourselves into the undefeated SEC team at 5 and 0 and 6 and 0 being like, Oh, they can win a national championship and it may have just as much to do with schedule, but it does do with how good that team is and it's, it's a very weird feeling for this conference that into year four, it's like, I still don't know who that team is, that's better than maybe any of the teams that you've run through. Yeah, it's, it's pretty crazy, especially like when you look at the quarterbacks and everybody has their difference of opinion and you look at the big 10 teams, you know, you bring in a Hoover, we establish, you know, we expect him to have a super solid year dot day right now. I believe is the favorite to be the first quarterback taken. Julian Sain has all the toys and we expect him to be better and I look at the SC is, you know, like God, my office, yeah, I mean, just even though he's missing a ton of receiving production from last season, my office is awesome. So don't worry about USC replacing receivers, just don't ever worry about that. I don't think they are worried about they haven't been in my lifetime. I've seen it happen in my face, it's plenty of times. So I just, I look at the teams like those, those top teams like Arch, he's, he's still got a higher ceiling to get to, you know, even Stockton, when his new toys to play with, I, you know, they're going to do it differently, but there's a ceiling they can get to turn it out with Ole Miss. He's going to get you a ceiling to a ceiling. So there's another level for the SEC teams to take. They just have to do it. And, you know, a team that we haven't even mentioned is Alabama, like it's, it's crazy to me. I like both their options a quarterback, by the way. Oh, yeah. And they're off its line. They're off its line. It's not going to be as bad as it was last year, I'm just, I'm just telling you, it's not going to be. And then we start looking at their schedule, like, how are they going to matriculate these things? And, you know, all the SEC coaches, you know, bitched about the ninth game now because they know that there's going to be some damn good teams at nine and three damn good teams. How many are going to get in? Maybe not even one. So there's just all this politic in, but yeah, I mean, just look at the AP poll alone and that, that next group of, you know, LSU Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Alabama, they're right there. They all can win the conference. And if you can win that conference, in my opinion, still, you could win a national championship. So I'm not that worried. The numbers haven't worked out and the big 10 is striking while I earned tie and talking their shit, which they should. It's been a long time coming because when I do the math, this is three straight as opposed to 13 to 16 before that. So it makes it fun. It makes it crazy when we go on the road for these games. And it's just about, everyone still has the what about us mentality, which is great. But I just, withering your way through a schedule now and trying to, you know, recruit guys that are on your team right now and re-recruit them so you hope they're staying is just something that the sport has never seen. So it's as healthy as it's been.

This is what you touched on because I hate where he's going because they're gonna be, I think they're gonna be really good this year. It's Dorian Thomas who was a tight end at New Mexico. He had 10 catches against Michigan last year. He caught at least two balls in every game and he's going to call. And I look at Song of Polo Telly as a guy who just needs more comfort, like more pieces, like kind of in a lower realm of arch. And I just, I hated when Cal got Wilcox as a head coach because I thought he was just what they needed, a buttoned up guy. And now I just desponded at Cal getting Tosh as a head coach because you want a, you want a game record in recruiting world and now with this NIL where you can, you know, get who you want. I think it's a great hire by Ron Rivera and Cal to bring Tosh in. But this is like one of the guys. You get, you get a guy who's an absolute game breaker and another weapon for, for JKS to have who is a team that I think takes the next level to get to that next year. We're talking about underneath Miami. I think Cal's going to be pretty good this year. Okay, Ed Quinn will be happy to hear about that. Mine's DJ lagway at Baylor. I know he's a Texas kid, but I was like, damn it. I've not given up on DJ lag. I have not either. There's too many plays where I was like, are you fucking kidding me with this guy? And I know that, you know, that's the recruiting thing and maybe be a trick by the whole thing. I can't, I hope he is great this year and I don't know how many games they're going to win. I think the project's to win like less than four games in the big 12 this year, but I'll just say this watching DJ and you could just be on the sidelines for the Miami game last year like, all right, he's holding on the ball too long. He's trying to make the perfect play. He's trying to make the perfect call at the line of scrimmage. And then he goes, you know, with our, with our guy Spav, who I think the world of with quarterbacks, I think there just has to be the onus lifted off. Like you can't do everything. And I think it's a big picture thing in college football now is, you know, you look at Alabama last year with Ty Simpson. I think I caught in it too much. We're trying to be too cute pre-snap and all that. And I think he's also trying to not get killed. Correct. But like Spav's a guy that was going to call it and you run it. Like call it and run it. And I think that's going to help him. Like in DJ's talked about how he feels more freedom. He sees the field way better in this offense. And he feels like it's high school all over again. And I get it. It's the big 12 and you're playing Auburn week one. But I just think the harness of trying to do everything is a great match for Spav's offense. So I'm going to say West Virginia plays in the big 12 title game. That's my big surprise. Kansas State people are going to point to the schedule again. I don't buy it. BYU. Yeah. They're stacked. I just, I think if it gets to Texas Tech, they're going to play like I need to see a lot more out of bear throwing the ball. And I get it. You know, he got you got the campus feels like now last year to play for BYU. So they need, but they're built like their lines of scrimmage are really good. I just think the beat Texas Tech, you need something different and possibly outscore them. I'll take my chances with with a West Virginia team with Hawkins who I think can really succeed in that offense. And I know he's in a quarterback battle. So he'll probably lose the job now. And I mentioned his name, but I looked at mix when I saw it, because that's what Rich Rod want. You want to play another defender in the box and do all that stuff like that plays in the Rich Rod's hands. And I know they're starving there. And I think a big year is coming in Morgentown. Wow. Okay, try to make sense of this Laker story. Yovon Buhat joins us who covers Lakers covered Lakers for a long time and also has his YouTube page up where it was like, Hey, who should the Lakers for starter be? But right now we're like, who is the owner? We kind of know who the owner is. Can you help us just kind of clean up a bit of the timeline to understand where we are right now? Probably starting with Walter realizing he had to sell this based on an investigation into his company, which is becoming more clear that they were kind of marking up assets in a way that was problematic. Yeah, so there are four components to the situation right now. You got the Mark Walter leg of the operation. You have the Josh Kushner and Bob Eiger leg of the operation. You got the bus family in fighting and they're part of the sale and then you have the Lakers organization and all of the instability and uncertainty right now with everything going on beyond just the the fifth starter. So what was started the Walter thing like this has been an ongoing investigation for several months that it had been out there, but it had not really led to anything notable until recently when it started to be like, this guy might be in trouble and clearly he was in trouble and the sale came together within the matter of a few days and Kushner and Eiger were interested in potentially buying the Las Vegas team, but they got win that he was potentially going to have to sell the Lakers and they reached out to him and they were able to negotiate that pretty quickly. Then you have their side of it of them trying to get the capital to purchase at that 12.5 billion valuation and still some uncertainty with how they're going to put all that money together when they're combined net worth is under six billion. You have the Lakers then five of the six siblings agreeing to a tag along clause which allowed them
to then lump in their portion of the team to the sale with Walter. And then now genie is fighting that and they have a couple of different things that they're going to have to be figuring out in potentially in court now that you have the Lakers who are trying to have this nice players only mini camp in Slovenia going on that Lucas leading is flying the team out there. They're going to be golfing together hanging out on a lake and they don't know what's going on who's going to be owning the team and how long this process is going to take to toss this all out. All right so at least the Walter part of it seems like that transaction we understand it and it's good and now it's just a matter of what percentage of the yeah what percentage of the team that pushed her and I her own. And so this tag along clause can we can we hammer down what that is and and why it wasn't something that the bus family we're talking about six siblings here. Why they didn't do this on the Walter sale and now why they'd be doing it on this sale 14 months later. So they didn't do this on the Walter sale because they want to the to have someone be the governor of the team which she need bus part of the sale last summer was she was going to remain governor through 2030. So she was going to be governor for the next five years. She was just governor representing the team this past year. She had four more years left with the agreement that they had done with the sale. So to be a governor you have to own at least 15% of the franchise. So the Lakers currently the buses own 17.8% of the franchise. So they're just above that minimum threshold. If they sell the remaining shares, Genie will no longer be able to be governor. So previously they had agreed okay Genie will be governor for the next five years. The buses will maintain that 17.8% they had previously owned 66% all right they sold almost a roughly 50% of that portion overall to Walter and then now they're down to 17.8% but once they got wind that they were going to be that Walter was going to be selling this portion to Eiger and Kushner. The rest of the siblings were like well why not just tag along and get you cash out now at this 12.5 billion valuation like there's no really there's no reason for them to stay on at that point and I think there was a revenge element to get back at Genie based on right before when she got wind of this she tried to change the trust and restructure it to eliminate the tag along and to clearly state that she was going to stay on as governor and they did not agree to that and then once it came out they were blindsided by it to my understanding as well that the team was going to be sold again they were like oh well in that case we're going to execute the tag along clause and we're going to just you know cash out sell our shares and Genie is no longer going to get to be governor so this is like straight out of succession right now in terms of the infighting the backstabbing the revenge and the siblings kind of going at it so she is going to look at that there's a 2017 LA Superior Court ruling that she's supposed to be the governor year over year and that all three co-trustees have to agree and she's one of them and she's not going to agree so there's a lot going on with that but my understanding is that like last year the reason why they didn't sell the full thing they wanted to still be attached to the Lakers they wanted to maintain a minority stake and she wanted to be governor but once it came out that they were going to be selling it again the siblings decided why not cash out now yeah look I read what the lawyers had to say and lawyers in this spot they can say whatever they want right so I just I get the sense that like Genie's going to have a lot of public support because I think Genie is well like I think Genie's done a really good job with the media and who knows like she may be I don't know any of them right I know people that have interacted I know that when Jim was running the show it seemed like every media member was trashing him constantly especially when hostility is being it was like a national thing and then it felt so nasty that I was like is Genie like are they so pro Genie that they'd be trashing one of the other siblings because you know it just seems like this infighting has gone on forever and look this is kind of like somebody has a nice summer house and there's five kids it's a problem never mind it being the Lakers so this isn't all that surprising I guess I'm asking is there a good guy or bad guy in the bus dynamic right now I don't think so I think there's blood on on both sides so to speak I guess at this point the the family is trying to move forward and just sell and get out and and like we've seen over the last handful of years all this new money coming into NBA ownership and it's just it's a different dynamic so I think for them they feel like the best thing to do is to just sell cash out and move forward but yeah I don't know if there's a good guy here necessarily like I think Genie does have good intentions but if you look at the current dynamic I don't think she has an ally right now I think you look at like Walter is dealing with some some bigger fish and he's trying to potentially not go to jail right now and and sell off all these assets that he has then you have Eiger and Kushner who like Eiger isn't putting up as much capital as Kushner is so theoretically like Eiger is supposed to be the face of the operation and he would make sense to be the successor to Genie in terms of being the governor and being a part of the board of governors meetings and just being like that you know that more so is going to be his role as the operator and then you have the siblings who have clearly turned on her and it's five or one so I don't know if that makes for the bad guy necessarily but it does seem like all of the parties involved with the exception of her want her to agree to sell and move on and she's the last one you know holding out well I can understand why she doesn't want to sell because it's cool to be the governor of the Lakers and when we have these transactions I mean it's been pretty predictable every single time is that the new ownership comes in and if there's any public equity of someone from the remaining ownership groups and they just kind of announced this soft transition a Cuban still own 27% of the maps when he sold his majority stake and he was saying everything everybody seemed to want to hear or maybe even the Cuban wanted to hear and then it was like actually you're not in charge of this thing which makes a lot of sense because if I own 73 plus percent or whatever or something and I've spent billions on it I don't actually want you in charge of this anymore so I think it's something that teams have been doing a lot of maybe it feels more NBA-ish where we're just announcing like this soft transition and don't worry like people are still going to be figuring out it happened with Boston a little bit maybe not to the degree of what you've had publicly with Cuban and then publicly with Genie Bus the Genie one makes a little bit of sense especially with Walter who was somebody who was always going to take a bit of a back seat to other people that are involved as organizations but you know if I'm one of the other five siblings going like so wait a minute we're just going to hang on like we can't you know eventually it's like I want my money you know look I'm just kind of like thinking the whole thing out it's like last man standing clause which is that if any of the siblings die the the shares get distributed to the remaining siblings so one of the six dies now it's split instead of one six that's one fifth so that's the other element here is like it I think the older siblings are looking at it like we want to cash out now enjoy this for the final whatever 20 30 years of our lives whereas the younger ones were the holdouts last year but I think now everyone unanimously is just like let's just move on cash out and enjoy the extra you know 300 plus million that we're each going to be making yeah that's what I'm saying like if I'm in my 60s waiting for this big cash out and then my sister wants to be in charge of the Lakers for three more years because it's cool and like that's not a very good argument because that's kind of kind of what it is and she probably would have been phased out a little bit anyway if Walter had stayed in position and she's certainly going to be more phased out here like Iger and look I like Iger I didn't have a lot that wasn't a high priority for Iger's day today of running Disney but it is a job where it's really hard to be as well liked as Iger was and there's a decency to him and there's a confidence of just his his energy in the room I'd maybe this sounds a little ridiculous like this is where the value of somebody like this comes in where you know he's not even close to writing the biggest check for all this stuff so I think Iger's position with the Lakers post all of this controversy like he's a settling he's just a settling presence for an organization that rarely seems to be settled either either good or bad on the court so I don't really know what Genie's role would be and then back to like another thing that we know if she's blasted out so many of her siblings in this reorg like why would any of them have her back anyway exactly I mean yeah like they agreed to sell and then two months later they Joey and Jesse got fired so it was like I mean yeah I don't I think at this point I mean at least with the brother she is either fired or sued all of them so it's like yeah I mean this has been a decade long battle between the siblings and it feels like it finally turned where they all turned back on her and we're like all right well you really want this okay too bad we're gonna cash out and sell our shares and it's five or one I don't know how much information you have on it but is there anything to like say well hey anyone could have done what the Dodgers doing and you're like maybe not maybe not everybody could just go ahead and do a
that the Dodgers are doing on top of deferring everything else, where a high income tax in the state actually works to the Dodgers benefit. Yeah. I mean, I had had conversations over the last couple of months prior to the sale with people who were like, where is this Mark Walter magic supposed to be? Because I think he had made some changes on the business side. We're bringing in lawn rows and they had revamped the business side, some new sponsorships, partnerships, but we had not really seen the dodgerification of the lakers. That had been the big thing of, okay, Mark Walter's going to come in. He's going to make them run like the Dodgers. They're going to become this big market juggernaut. They're going to be restored to glory. And it's going to be like the 80s and the 2000s. And we just haven't really seen that. Like they didn't even hire their second assistant GM yet, which had been a months long search for them going back to last season. So it's like a lot of this had been put on hold. And there'd been the sentiment out there of like, when are we finally going to see what Mark Walter brought to the Dodgers, brought to the lakers? And clearly there was more going on behind the scenes than anyone knew. And I think some of that stuff had been put on hold for the time being. But I mean, yeah, it just, I don't think it's, I mean, it's two different sports right in two different salary caps. So you don't have the salary cap in baseball, which allows you to spend to a degree that just isn't feasible in the NBA unless maybe you're Steve Balmer. But yeah, I mean, we just had not seen that level of investment or like the cutting edge beefing up the basketball front office like your basketball ops, like we just hadn't seen that yet. And I don't know if we will, I don't know what it's going to look like now against, you know, with Kushner and Iger, like, it's just, it's TBD. And I mean, they're entering this without a plan. Iger had an interview last week where he said, we don't have any plans, anything that's out there speculation. And like, I mean, yeah, that's not great to be hearing about a month and a half before the season starts when, you know, the roster is what it is. And there's a certain element of lack of flexibility based on the contracts they give out the investment that they made in Walker Kessler. But it's just like, yeah, I don't know where things are headed for the Lakers. And this seems like this is going to drag out for several months at a minimum. It's a really good topic, though, on like the Walter vacation of the Lakers. And it's like, is that even possible? Okay. So like, say, what do you want to be? You want to be a second apron team? It's like, well, you actually probably don't. And the only time you could ever put yourself in position to just blow through the second apron and pay all these luxury tax fines or penalties or whatever you want to say to categorize it. You'd have to have all of these amazing players early under contract and just extending them through the birds because there wouldn't be mechanisms to just go out and start spending on anybody else like you could in baseball. So the other thing when I've talked to Dodgers people about it, I'm like, what is it? Like what is about this group other than just money? And it's like, you know, some baseball teams will say we're going to be like better than everybody else internationally. Other places are like, well, our area guys are going to be unbelievable. We're going to do just a great job in this part of development. And the Dodgers basically like, we're going to be elite at all of it internationally high school college. Like, we're going to comb through every single prospect in a way that nobody else is even close. And I think the fact that they've been able to stockpile so many prospects year after year and then lead to whatever transaction they want to make at the major league level proves like a proof of concept with this basketball. That doesn't really matter. Like, okay, you want to spend 50 million more a year on your scouting department? I'd be telling you like, hey, to your owner like, this is a massive waste of fucking money because it's you're not going to find some lefty in Korea that nobody's figured out yet. And even then, I don't even know that that necessarily exists now except for the ability to just go ahead and sign any international prospect you want to on top of any free agent if you're the Dodgers. So there's such a difference between the rules and what you'd be able to do. I think there's a lot of hope for Lakers to answer like, hey, look at what's happening down the street. This is going to be incredible. And I'd be like, I just, I don't, I think it's like two different worlds. So that was never really going to translate. And so now it almost feels like a letdown even though based on the finances of this whole thing, like, he's not even close. He's not even close to getting the books right and getting everybody, everybody back with the way that they were logging so much of this stuff because when you dig into the whole thing, you're just going like, Oh, that, like something that was listed as a five million dollar transaction that wasn't an affiliated part of it, then months later was, I mean, it's, it's pretty bold to have even thought that this was going to pass. And you're right. Like, when he had his plane or excuse me, when he got off the plane and his phone is laptop or confiscated, like, I just kind of was like, Oh, whatever, you know, maybe somebody's out to get them and they're just being investigated. And then here we are. So as well, he probably should have never bought the team to begin with and we'd be having a different conversation right now. But uh, yeah, now, now we're here. Yeah. Well, great job. Um, today, and thanks for helping us clear up some of this stuff because it does feel a bit like, I don't know if there's anyone that I'm, I'm rooting for against, but that's a very like her story as we know. And someone told me this is a complete mess and they just want to move forward. And I think what we're all there. Yeah, I really don't, I mean, to finish up, I was done, but to add one little thing to it, I don't really know that it's that big of a deal for the basketball part of it. Like for 26 27. No, with everything that's been done, like, I think they were going to be whoever they were going to be. There's some long-term concern, certainly, but for this season, I don't think players care about this stuff at all. That's a fair point. I mean, I think there's some uncertainty with the front office in the, the second assistant GM, what's Rob's future going to be? Are they potentially going to make a move here to try to find that fit starter, which we open with? Like, I think there are some quite, like smaller questions maybe, but certainly, I think this is more of a 2027 summer thing with the organization. Since that episode dropped, I've been approached. This is about the guy who ran into his exit of wedding. Since that dropped, I've been approached by several friends in my circle because they thought I was the guy who submitted it as you receive the emails. You know that I am not the person that submitted that prompt. However, I can see how they reached that conclusion. Similar to the original sender, not only in my late 20s, and just got out a relationship about two and a half years ago, but I was very recently in a good friends wedding, where my ex was also the wedding. It was my first time seeing her a long time, and I was talking. I was seeing talking this several times throughout the weekend. So as you can imagine, I was already being interrogated and then they listened to life advice. Exclamation point. My main concern is now my friends think I submitted the life of this, wrote that my height was six four as a disguise, because remember, that guy was a Bobby Portis comp. And I'm searching to find some answers because I'm hung up on her once again. They're worried about me, which I can appreciate because the original guy was alluding to. It's a slippery slope. Long story short, I'm not saying I didn't listen closely to the advice you guys gave because I did, but I'm mainly writing this with the hopes that you'll read it and show my friends it was not me who submitted the message. All right, 48, 62, 225, player comp, Blake Riffin, Celtics edition, way past my prime, but still know how to play the contributing member of a team and honestly, happy to still hang with 20 year olds at my age and not be played off the court. First, let me start by saying, this is the definition of a first world problem. My youngest worked as a bartender through college in a bit after while he found a job to fit his degree. He lives about five hours away, but we still see each other every few months. Big part of seeing each other is going out in a few bars and just hanging out. The wife doesn't drink much anymore. So it's usually just him and I love hanging out with him because I, if I do say same, if I do say so myself, I genetically created and molded a great adult to hang out with. He is socially comfortable and can hold a great conversation about sports, music and current events. And that's a great sense of humor. That's going to be an awesome, awesome feeling as a dad. I feel like my son is cool. Anyway, all right, the issue is his, his cup of coffee is a professional bartender. He's annoying about critiquing my drink choices if they are not bartender. Friendly, and he always analyzes the check. Dad pays mostly, but too, his credit does offer sometimes. Like I'm not capable of computing a 20 to 30% tip. I've tried to curb this behavior by roasting and making fun of him, but it doesn't seem to stick. It seems silly to have a serious discussion about it. Ryan is a form of bartender yourself. Do you have any advice? Is he just two years past his last gig slinging drinks and he'll grow out of this? Thanks for the great content fellows. I mean, I've been out drinking with guys who haven't bartended in like five years and it's like the same spiel. And it's like, you know, we always have to tip. You know, obviously you have to tip. And I actually end up spending more money this way. And it's like, yeah, I don't care. I never got to be a bartender. It was a dream, but I don't have to piss people off with how like, you know, I'm still psychobonious. I am about it. I'll say don't give up on that dream. Sure, you still do. But I, I will say, Ryan, you do like to bring up the bar stool. Yeah, the bartender is just going to happen. I didn't know if you were going to do it, but yeah. Yeah, like, it's just like a part of your personality. Like in this stuff happened, what? 30 plus years ago? So 30s of stretch. How do you? Well, yeah, yeah, all right. Some of my five years ago. Yeah, yeah, some of it was 30. But like, so the idea of like, it's going to go away probably not if we have evidence here. I would say the only good thing about this is this is the only flaw of your son who's been who's a stand-up citizen like this is a good hang. Then it's like, yeah, yeah, yeah. Being a little bit precious. I think it's brought up a lot. Yeah, I think it's, you know, it's a go to. It's a little bit of a crutch. I've got crutch words. It's fine. You've got the bartender crutch. Yeah. Do you think I have the construction worker crutch? You don't bring that up as much. I don't think you feel as comfortable with that. I would argue, I mean, does your son have a podcast where he's trying to intertwine stories from his past to relate to lessons of today? 'Cause I think that's what it's meant to do with it. I love it. 'Cause I've heard this before. And then we're like, oh, you bring up college a lot. Or like, oh, you bring up ex-relationship a lot. You're like, are you aware what we fucking do here? Right. It's fair. I knew sorority was going to do this. I was a little surprised that he came at me like that. It's fair. I do bring it up a decent amount. I think the difference is, is I'm hosting a show. And so, I think that's a fair point. A lot of them. I'm not saying it's like, I don't want it. Or it's bad, it's just, it happens a lot. You know, it's kind of you go too. Yeah. This is a space where I'm down to hear that about that shit. Not when I'm sitting next to a guy at a bar where he's telling me about like, you know, his enlightened view of the service industry right now. That's the thing. And I just don't think that's going to go away. And the positive is, you already did what my advice would be like, this is where you make fun of him right now because most other people, besides the bartender who he clearly wants to know, I used to do the shit man. I get it. You know, everyone else is going to be on your side as the dad. So you're already doing the right thing. I just, I'd say just keep it up. There is a very lame like, hey, I used to bartend to the bartender who, you know, when it's happening, you used to be bartending. Ordering long islands in here. I hated that. Right. Irish car bumps. Speaking of terrorism. There's definitely part of it where, look, I think younger people, when you're kind of in this void, this void of like, what am I? Like, what is my identity? That's why I think younger people can get really, really into bands because it's like, hey, I have some sort of attachment, right? Like, do you like who was staying too much? Maybe. What a great shout. You know, like, oh, this isn't the original drummer. Okay, man, I just like numbers four, six, I'm just going to sit down again, though. I didn't realize this was a fucking thing. I could be, I could be accused of dropping a band fun fact a few too many times on repeat with the wife. She'll be like, yep, heard that one before. I'm like, all right. You don't have to do it. You don't have to. So I do think that that kind of stuff goes away where your son probably shouldn't be telling you how to calculate a tip. I mean, that's stupid. The numbers are pretty easy to do, especially if you're going 20 or 30 and not 18.5. But I don't rule out that he's still pretty close to this being kind of his identity for a little while. And honestly, I'm not even saying there's anything like wrong with it. Look, look at me with sports with the red socks and that kind of stuff, talking about something I bring up too much. But I didn't have anything. I wanted to feel like I was something or a part of something. So I think younger people, I think men probably do it, maybe more than women do. I don't know. I'm not sure about that. But I think you guys get what I'm saying is that you can have that guy in your group. That's kind of like overdoing it a little bit. I remember, again, not to do it, but we're going to, there are dudes in the bartender crew that would go to other bars, specifically based on like who was or wasn't a good bartender. And now I look back on that being like, that's the dumbest fucking thing any of us ever even discussed. Luckily, I feel proud that even my early 20s, I was like, this feels dumb. Like I like to chicken sandwiches and be like, oh, feels not there. Yeah, like we can't go because Phil isn't there, but like he's the only one who knows how to make a good Moscow, and you just be like, this is, and we had some guys like this, which is just absurd and stupid. And I wish I wasn't even associated with it, but I think that's part of that is like, I think people want to be a local like there. They want to be a regular. They want to be that. They want to feel like they're part of some of a thing. And if they're like, hey, I know Phil, like, and that's something we just hang up your friends heads. Yeah. So. Well, the good news is as, as annoying as that can be, I think the servers are way more annoying about it. And there's way more of them. So I hate when I hear the, as a guy who has a dishwasher for a long time and just hated servers irrationally, when I hear them talk about like that version of it where like bartenders not as bad, but servers like drives me nuts a little bit. That's I might have a short fuse for that. That's the like hierarchy at like a bar restaurant. Like it feels like, it feels like, because all of I feel like this comes from the movie waiting, right? Just think of like who is great. Great. Who is it yet? Shout out to Ron Reynolds. We're like, you know, the cook seem like kind of wow, total wow cars. The hostess is usually like, they really do bartenders are usually kind of chill, but I don't know. Well, it depends on what kind of place that it is like rarely, I mean, if it's about the food, then the chefs are always going to be in charge of everything, although the chefs and the bartenders get.
their sort of trade agreements going where everybody has to be fed, but if you can throw somebody a rum and sprite on the line to get them to the shift, then there's going to be, you know, again, there's going to be alliances there. Yeah. I think extra chicken in that bull. Yeah. But when you think about bartending or cooking on a line, like you're just going to look at the weight staff is the harmonica player in the group. You know, you're just going to be like, cool. You brought your harmonica. Awesome. Like we don't respect your skills. Damn it. Yeah. Nobody would ever think of a server being the same level of like skill as somebody who can actually cook a full meal and they're always counting their fucking money as they're walking out the door while I'm like cleaning the mats, you know, I'm not getting any of that. But then, but then would you have, I mean, again, haven't been there. So I don't know, my thought would be like, if the cook fucks up, the way the waiter waiters has to deal with the bullshit that comes with that, right? They're the ones getting yelled at about the steak being overcooked or like, you know, something not. Or those who throw the staff under the bus immediately and be like, oh my God, I told him exactly. I'm going to go get that fix right away. Yeah, but that's your anonymous person in the back. You never actually have to deal with any of that stuff. Not like the cook has to come out and like face the music. No, but then, you know, you're going to be careful how you deal with the chef and it depends on like, how long has that chef been there? What kind of standings does he have? And like, some chefs got off on making sure that everybody else felt like shit around them. I don't know why that happened, but again, it's like I was working at Red Robin for six hours standing behind that grill. That guy is like, he's a loaded gun himself. I mean, it's I'm in my first gig. My first restaurant job I walked in, I don't know, it's like 5 a.m. We're getting ready for breakfast service and this guy, I'm not going to say his name. I'll never forget it. And he just smelled, he was fucking gross. He put his body right into me and stuck me in front of an orange juice machine and was like this machine's worth more than your life. Don't fuck it up. You know, but he was at whatever he was going on in his life and how miserable he was. You don't understand this when you're sick. I think it was 16. He's like, I'm going to try to make you feel like shit immediately. I want to immediately intimidate you. I want you to feel like you're not worthy to be even in here. And you know, the way my brain works would be like, there's just fucking oranges, man. We're going to get through this together. Yeah. I'm going to do the job. It's going to be fine. I don't think I can break this machine if I wanted to. It's all stationary and like we're going to, there's going to be OJ today. I fucking promise you that there will be OJ. I know I'm new. I know it's a lot to ask, but I've seen it made. I've consumed it. I like it. I'm a fan of the product and I've had it before in other restaurants. So I'm fairly certain. I know how this whole procedure works. I might be confused. I might, you know, there could be a moment where I'm a little off first day jitters, but we're going to be fine. We're going to play in a small glass. You know, yeah. Thanks for your speech. Yeah. We want to give him a pint glass OJ. I know that would be terrible. Wait a minute. So as a dishwasher, did you dislike the wait staff way more than you dislike the line? The line was sick. What do you mean? Those guys are awesome. So those are all my friends that my buddy hired and then I actually had to fire them all at different points, but it was like a, but I was at the, here's why it was really bad is because it was the melting pot, which is a fondue restaurant, which I honestly every once a while, I'll get fucking ramically. That must have been brutal. Dude, ramikens. You can't put the pot. How many times a night would you get screened for ramikens? Four? Yeah. It's like a lot, a lot. And then they don't really fit very nicely into that into that dishwasher, you know, the pots, when they were doing the cheese fondue, that's great. You put a bowl in there, but when you got an oil based, you know what I mean? You got like a bullion in there that's got a, that's not going through the, that's going in a big sink that you're going to scrub out with shit and everybody gets new utensils every time. So there's three pointy forks for every course of this person's meal and they fucking hurt. So listen, I don't even know if they're forks, whatever those stabber things are. It was really tough. And then it really just, sometimes the way the servers would just drop their shit a little bit too hard and it's like, you respect this dish, man. You put it down nice because I'm dying in here. Anyway, so, you know, I'm like, I'm a raisin over here and there's grease and it's, it's awful. And you just went out for a smoke break. I got to wait till somebody needs garbage outside the dumpster before I can have a smoke break. So fuck off. I was so jealous of smoking when I worked at a restaurant. I just, yeah. They kind of have to let you go like depending on your job, I think if you're working crazy and there's like give that guy five minutes, I think he might need it. My experience with the chefs are always crazier than the bartenders, but the chefs things that the places I worked out that were real kitchens were real places like the first two places were real places. So there was more on the line than just some college bar where yeah, maybe one of the other guys sucked, but I also was higher on the totem pole and didn't have to worry about it when you're dishwasher man, you're fucking nobody likes you. I think I did like five, four months in the dish pit before I got out, got out of there and got on the line, which was sick because I was basically just making salads and chocolates and shit like that, you know, but that was sick. Pine nuts, dude. Pine nuts and it's easier. Think about it. It was my specialty. I can't stop. Think about it all day, yeah. What else do we have here on the table? One more? Yeah, we go one more. Okay, am I scaring off girls of the gym, 33, 59, 15, 225, bench four reps, player comp, Aaron Kraft out of here, yeah, I go to a name brand gym, not equinox in the upper east side of Manhattan. It is more of a friendly vibe with lots of girls. I'm probably one of the more hard to guys in there in terms of seriousness. You're aware that you're one of the more hard to guys. Okay. I'll put that in my old back pocket might write it down on my no pad. That being said, I always keep to myself, never talked to anyone besides a friendly hello to the trainers. I've never approached anyone and just mind my business completely locked in. I've been noticing that girls seem to be avoiding me, particularly on the treadmill. If there are multiple treadmills available, they almost always go to the furthest one from me. Same with the free weight area. I seem to be radioactive. At first, I thought it was because I smell, but I shower at least one time a day, normally twice a day, always wear a deodorant and cologne, Abercrombie fierce parentheses. My apartment smells crisp and clean. I work a finance job and come to the gym straight from my office. It's not as if I'm outside sweating all day. What do you think it is? Can I be doing something creepy that I'm not realizing? Can I just be giving off intimidating vibes? I'd say my first two questions would be like, can you tell me what was his stats again? What's his size? Five, nine, one, eighty, five. Okay. So he's not like super tall or super wide. I'm wondering if you're and then my next one would be like how when you're on the treadmills, are you like pouring sweat because that might just be enough. I don't know about how your other gym routine goes, but if you're like, if you're absolutely soaked, that's enough to, I think, have someone just go give you a wide berth. You're like, I smell, you know, funny runner, you're like, come with sweat. Funny runner. You're like a weird runner. Yeah, because I, you know, I don't know that people know that they're weird runners until they are, it pointed out to them. You know, if you see yourself running, it's kind of a, it's a, it could be a little bit of a wake up call. Okay. All right. That's tough. Maybe we need to fix that. Yeah. That would be a lot better. You just put people off. Yeah. There's just one guy in the family. His name is Raheem Sterling. He just runs like he just runs literally with his arms just flapping and it's insane. And I was like, how did you learn to run that way? He is fast. He's really fast. He was. He's older now. But and you're just like, man, how do you learn to run like that? That's so strange. And it's kind of off-boating. I'll be honest with you. My mom told me when I was younger, I used to hit the Naruto like that, like a younger way younger, but she was like, we got to get that fixed and we did. We got to fix. Okay. That's amazing. He's like, he thinks he's fucking flying around out there. Yeah. I'd like to bite the lip and everything. I'm like, I'm fucking out. But that was. That is. I'll run a black pepper snake the other day. We're at. No, I'm just imagining you telling your family that. Not me. No, there's none. There's none around here. I think the fact that you said you're kind of a hearted, that you are aware of it, that you noticed it. My fear is it's like you, like our 10 times more of a hearted than you even realize. But the gym thing can be really, really fragile, like you can have the worst first impression and it can happen in like two seconds. And then it's just this awful basis that you're working from. The next thing you know, you're not talking to somebody in there for three years. Like it's crazy. I've seen it happen. Yeah. But it's true. I don't know. I mean, every gym situation for me is sort of weird. Like I've had all the trainers, all the male trainers like me and the female trainers. Not like me. I've had the female trainers like me and they're not male trainers. I've had the black trainers like me, but none of the white guys, I've had a bunch of different dynamics where I can't really ever put my finger on whatever, ever any of it is. I'm not a runner. I do stick to myself quite a bit. Somebody doesn't want to come up and talk to me, but I'm just the hearted awareness thing. And if it's a very female gym, like are you deadlifting with chalk? Are you setting up in a deadlift station? Are you staying over there forever? Are you running?
Are you sweating on shit, which I think is a fair assessment? - What are you wearing? - Violent on the cables, and they're like, actually, I'm gonna have to use that next. - Are you full compression? - Yeah, that's a turn off. - Femal body inspector, cut off. - You still doing the original features? - When I saw that on my DC trip, I think that was the first time I saw that shirt. I'm like my eighth grade Washington DC trip. It blew my fucking mind. - I was like, what, you can put that on a teacher? And I'd seen bumper stickers that made me laugh before, but I never came across the FBI one. And we were in DC, I was in the gift shop. I'm like, holy shit, didn't buy a trigger. - I was too scared, dude, I was too scared. - When we were growing up, there were way too many of those novelty t-shirt stores, though, right? Like in the mall, there were just like all of them. Like I had one that was, did I tell you about this one? I think I sent it to you. It's the rehab is for quitter shirt. That's a tough one. - Yeah. - There's a she's so lucky with an arrow pointing over, you're just like, well, I wore this stuff. Like this was just readily available to any dude who was an idiot who wanted to buy this stuff. And I bought it. I bought it a lot. And it was, I wish it was less available. It just sounds like if you have, which sounds like pretty great self-awareness to admit that you might lean hard-o, maybe take a closer look at that. I think the space on the treadmill is not that alarming. It's like, I'll give the max. I agree. You could try no cologne at the gym too. I know I hate it. When I get a waft of somebody else, it's just blasted out. I think it messes up your day.
