How to Know What God Wants You to Do With Your Life

The transcript blends practical financial advice with spiritual reflection, offering solutions to common life struggles. Experian helps users simplify their finances by canceling unused subscriptions, while Mint Mobile promotes a no-store wireless plan as a modern, accessible alternative. Central to the spiritual message is an interpretation of Matthew 25, where God gives each person gifts (talents) and calls them to multiply those gifts through faithful, active use. The core idea is that God’s specific will for one’s life is not a vague command but a personal call rooted in one’s unique abilities—whether in business, creativity, or service. The speaker emphasizes that true purpose comes from honoring God with one’s gifts, not from seeking comfort or security. This stands in contrast to the fear of responsibility, which often leads to avoiding obedience. The message encourages believers to trust God’s design, recognize their gifts, and live with integrity and accountability. Spiritual decisions are evaluated not by outcomes, but by alignment with God’s character and well-being. A final appeal is made for divine clarity, urging listeners to discover their gifts and use them for God’s glory, rejecting a life of passive comfort in favor of purposeful, obedient living. The entire narrative affirms that following Jesus brings significance, not just security.

What's going on, guys?
Welcome back to another episode of the Bryce Carver Podcast.
I'm Bryce, and today we're going to be talking about what's God's will for your life.
Yes, we are going to answer that question.
If you've been asking yourself,
I don't know what God's will is for my life.
I don't know what to do.
We're going to be answering it today.
We are in Matthew chapter 25.
We're going to get into specifically what God's specific will for your life is.
There are two types of wills that God has for people's lives.
You have a general will, and then you have a specific will.
A general will is what?
For believers to love God with their whole heart, love their neighbor as their self,
preach the gospel.
The Great Commission is for all believers, no matter where you're from,
no matter what background you're from, what family you're from,
what life was like growing up.
The general commands for believers is God's general will for our lives.
There's two types of wills.
General will and specific will.
I know when people ask the question, what's God's will for my life,
they don't want to hear the general will.
That's why I wanted to get that out of the way.
It's like God does have a general will, and God's general will is that we would know him,
love him, and serve him.
And walk in obedience to him.
Christ says, if you love me, you'll obey my commandments, right?
Those commandments are for all believers.
But now we're going to get into what's God's specific will for your life.
And we're in Matthew chapter 25, verse 14.
It says, for it will be like a man going on a journey
who called his servants and entrusted to them his property.
To one, he gave five talents, to another two, to another one,
to each according to his ability.
Then he went away.
So.
This man, he gives certain people different amounts of talents,
and then they leave.
And it's not that, and you will read this,
it is not that the one that had five talents
was of greater moral value than the guy that had one.
No, they were all of equal moral value.
Some were just trusted with more than others.
He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them,
and he made five talents more.
So also he who had the two talents,
made two talents more.
But he who had received the one talent went and dug into the ground
and hid his master's money.
Now, after a long time,
the master of those servants came and settled the accounts with them.
And he who had received the five talents came forward,
bringing five talents more saying,
master, you delivered to me five talents.
Here I have made five talents more.
His master said to him, well done, good and faithful servant.
You have been faithful over a little.
I will set you over much.
Enter into the joy of your master.
And he also who had two talents came forward saying,
master, you delivered to me two talents.
Here I have made two more.
So what we're recognized about these first two people,
the person with the five talents,
the person with the two talents,
is that they went and took what God had given them,
and they multiplied it.
Let's cut down to verse 24.
He also who had received the one talent came forward and said,
master, I knew you would be a hard man,
reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you scattered no seed.
So I was afraid.
And I went and hid your talent into the ground.
Here you have what is yours.
So the guy with one talent got so afraid he was going to make the wrong decision.
And he got passive.
He buried the talent and just gave him back exactly what was given to him.
And we all know if you buried a $20 bill and waited two years,
that thing wouldn't even be worth $20.
The inflation is so bad.
So like this guy already made a big mistake,
but that's not the point of this parable.
But as master answered him, you wicked and slothful servant,
you knew that I reap where I've not sown and gathered.
Where I scattered no seed,
then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers.
And at my coming,
I should have received what was my own with interest.
So take the talent from him and give it to him who has 10 talents for to
everyone who has will more be given and he will have an abundance.
But from the one who has not even what he has will be taken away.

Kroger fresh for everyone.
What does this have to do with God's specific will for your life?
The Bible,
signifies believers as a body for a reason.
There's this lie that,
oh,
because you're a Christian,
then you have to become a preacher or a pastor.
It's actually not true.
Like you were called to preach the gospel.
You don't have to be a preacher.
Like,
do we understand that we need Christians in business?
We need Christians in wall street.
We need Christians in the restaurant business.
We need Christians at the counter at planet fitness.
We need Christians that are fitness instructors.
We need Christians that are pastors.
I mean,
you're a Christian.
You need pastors.
We need people in these different positions,
but we're a body for a reason.
Not everyone is the mouthpiece.
When Jesus himself says,
but from the one who has not,
even what he has will be taken away.
What God gives us is from him and for him.
You are made on purpose for purpose.
Now,
here's the thing about God is God doesn't need us.
God wants to use us.
That is a beautiful thing.
Number one,
to recognize God doesn't need you.
You're not doing God a favor by,
by preaching the gospel.
Do you understand that?
Like I'm not doing God a favor by making this podcast episode.
You're not doing God a favor by,
you know,
preaching in the street.
God can accomplish it without you.
So it's not that God needs us.
He wants us.
God wants to use us.
God wants to use us for a mighty work.
Jesus is the winning team.
He's already won.
Why not be a part of the winning team?
So God has created you on purpose for purpose and things are from God and for God,
right?
So if you've been asking yourself the question,
I don't know what God's will is for my life.
I don't know what God wants me to do.
Matthew 25 would say,
look at the gifts that God has given you.
Your gifts are going to be different than my gifts.
The whole reason that I talked the way that I do and preach the way that I do
is it stems from a gift.
I believe God gave to me before I was a believer.
Like when I was in high school,
I took a bunch of writing classes.
I took a college writing class.
My senior year.
I just,
I had this itch to write.
I liked it to write.
I liked it.
I had a,
I had a blast doing it and I just,
I had a blast doing it.
I just liked trying to take complicated ideas and make it simpler to
understand.
And now I just have used what I believed God had given me a gift in there
and use it for him.
For you,
God might have given you,
God might've given you a graphic design gift and God's calling you to step
up and use that and help your local church or do make graphics for God or
whatever that looked like,
or be a light in a dark place in a creative space.
Maybe God is calling you to a corporate creative life.
And with your intentionality and your design,
you give glory to God through using your gifts for that.
And you're able to be a light in the business place.
Maybe God's giving you a musical gift because he sure as heck has not given me one.
And I want you to use those gifts for his glory.
Maybe it looks like serving at your church.
Maybe it looks like being careful what you sing about,
what lyrics you write,
what kind of music you make.
Like that's a beautiful thing.
I am not jealous of musicians.
I am so glad God has trusted people with musical gifts.
I want them to use it for his glory.
I want you to use your graphic design gifts for his glory.
Maybe God's calling you to use your administrative gifts for his glory.
Because without administrative people, things wouldn't get accomplished.
I know me.
I'm not the most organized guy.
Hey, quick break.
I want to talk about victory by covenant eyes.
And I want to be real with you for a minute.
If you're struggling with corn, most people will tell you the answer is more willpower.
Try harder.
Be more disciplined.
But that is not actually how change happens.
Real freedom does not come from white knuckling it alone.
It comes from bringing the struggle into the light.
Scripture already told us this.
As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
Carry each other's burdens.
Accountability is not. If you want some modern self-help idea, it is God's design.
And that is exactly what victory is built on.
Yes, there is content filtering, and that matters.
But the heart of it is accountability.
Connecting you with trusted people who encourage you, walk with you,
and help you build habits that actually last.
Plus, community support, so you are never doing this alone.
And it is all built on a Christian worldview,
which means the goal is not just behavior change.
The goal is becoming who God made you to be.
Freedom is rarely immediate, but it belongs to the people who refuse to give up.
So if you're ready for that next. Start your journey today.
with victory by Covenant Eyes.
Go to covenanteyes.com and use code BRYCE30
to get a free 30-day trial
and start living in freedom today.
Again, that is covenanteyes.com, code BRYCE30.
I praise God for people on our team
that have administrative gifts.
Maybe God has given you a gift in that different area.
And whenever we're saying,
I don't know what I'm gonna do.
I feel like God's given me a musical gift,
but I'm just gonna go get a business degree
for four years at college
because that's what the comfortable life looks like.
You were slapping God in the face
for what gifts he's given you.
If you're gonna put the gifts he's given you on a shelf
to go do something that is comfortable,
God doesn't always call us to a comfortable life.
The Bible even says that Jesus had nowhere to lay his head.
The son of man had nowhere to lay his head for rest.
God isn't calling you to a comfortable life.
If you wanna know God's will for your life,
look at the gifts that God has given you.
That is a big indicator probably
that God wants to use you
in that way.
Now, can God use you in circumstances
that you're not supposed to be in?
Absolutely.
God works all things together for the good.
But God wants to use you in the gifts that he's given you.
Let him use those gifts for his glory.
Don't rob him of his glory.
Whenever you opt out of using your gifts for God's glory
and you choose to do something else with your life,
then you're robbing glory from God
because God gave you those gifts for a reason.
Those gifts are for him.
And you have been trusted with these gifts for a reason.
And so what it looks like to multiply five more talents
in your life,
in the life of God's given you five talents,
it looks like to use those gifts
to impact people for his glory.
Whether it is your workplace environment,
the people that experience your gifts physically,
emotionally, spiritually, whatever it may be,
that's what it looks like to multiply the talents
and not put those things in the shelf
because we're afraid of what comes with obedience to Jesus.
And I wanna give you some peace right now
when it comes to making decisions for the glory of God
because when it comes to God's will,
that's a big decision.
That's your purpose, that's your meaning,
that's your significance.
And right now we're living in a time
where AI is taking jobs
and AI is taking jobs.
And AI is robbing people from significance
because people's jobs and their callings
provide significance and meaning.
Let me just say,
excluding the gifts God has given you,
your meaning comes from Jesus.
Your purpose comes from Jesus.
Like he gives you purpose.
A byproduct of getting to experience true life with Jesus
is getting to honor Jesus
and the gifts he's given you, right?
But I get asked so often,
well, what if I make the wrong decision?
How do I know if I'm making the right decision
for the glory of God?
I remember hearing a pastor at a conference
tell me this one time.
Making a decision for the glory of God
looks like setting yourself up best spiritually.
There are some times where God doesn't care
if you turn left or right,
but what God cares about is your spiritual wellbeing.
And if turning left pulls you further away from Jesus,
then God would want you to turn right.
If turning right would pull you further away from Jesus,
then God would want you to turn left.
Like choosing that job or either, you know,
taking the job,
and pay increase at your job
or moving to a different location.
Well, if you take the job increase,
that means more responsibilities and more money.
So maybe that's what freedom looks like,
but you're going to be drained spiritually.
Whereas moving jobs,
there's similar pay over there,
but you know people
and there's deep Christian rich community over there
that'll walk alongside you.
God cares more about your heart
than he does your bank account.
So it's, no, make that decision.
God's not going to call you to something
that goes against his character.
That goes against the morality of God.
And that's going to pull you further away from him.
God's going to call you to something
that draws you closer to him.
God's going to call you to something that
maybe it does seem weird.
Like when God called me to LA,
I was so confused
because I'd never even stepped foot in LA.
But I knew two Christians here.
And so I knew, hey,
even if I take this leap of faith,
because I believe God is calling me here.
I know some Christians and I can get plugged in
and I've grown closer to Jesus
because I know some Christians.
But being out here,
then I think I would have gone somewhere else.
But there was wisdom attached to the faith there.
You know, God does ask for faith,
but God also blesses us with common sense.
That's why this question of what's God's will for my life
is like, I'm actually like,
I don't think it's that hard of a question.
We wrestle with it so much.
Like God has given you common sense.
Look at the gifts that God has given you.
And here's even some more peace and clarity for you.
If you make a decision thinking God is leading you
to a decision and it's the wrong decision,
there's this thing called grace.
Grace for you.
Because you've made a decision thinking God was leading you there
and it was wrong, there's grace.
If you make a decision thinking God is leading you
to a decision and it's the right decision,
you just now built that spiritual muscle
of what it's like to lean on the spirit of God in your life,
in your decision-making, in your marriage,
in your finances, in your friendships,
in your relationships, in your workplace.
Because we need Jesus in it all.
But God's not trying to do mental gymnastics
to tell you what to do.
He's not trying to tell you what He's called you to do.
The scripture is clear.
God has given everyone talents and gifts.
What gifts has God given you?
And use them for His glory.
The reason that we have a ministry team
is because God has given each individual person
on our team gifts.
And they find joy in using their gifts
for the glory of God.
You will find more incredible joy
using the gifts God has given you for His glory
than you will taking a comfortable,
career route
because you're afraid of responsibilities,
repercussions,
what comes with following Jesus.
Are you not afraid of what comes with disobedience to Jesus?
You're more worried about
what your financial status looks like
than honoring the Lord,
than experiencing joy.
Yeah, maybe your starting salary
is going to be a six-figure starting salary,
but you're going to be miserable
and spiritually drained.
Like, reflect on your life.
Where are your priorities?
Because I'm telling you right now,
like, God's will for your life,
general will is that you'd know Him.
Specific will is going to come
from what He's trusted you with.
And following Jesus is the best thing ever.
And we don't want to rob Him of His glory
and what He's given to us.
I really want to pray for you
because I understand that,
that like the God's will for our life
can seem like this intimidating thing,
but it's not.
I pray that God will speak to you so clearly
about the gifts that God has given you.
And that you feel divine strategy
to use them for His glory.
Jesus, we thank you for today.
God, we thank you for who you are.
Lord, right now there are people watching
and listening to this
that don't even know your will for their life.
But God, would you just clearly highlight
the gifts that you've given them
and give them divine strategy
to use them for your glory.
God, we don't just want to live comfortable lives.
We want to live obedient lives.
And that comes at a cost.
And so Lord, we're willing to lay our lives out
as a living sacrifice for you
because you've laid your life down for us.
Lord, we love you.
We thank you.
We praise you in Jesus' name.
Amen.
