How To Get Your Dream Clients

In this episode of The Dream Smarter Podcast, host Alex Crayling dispels myths about easily attracting ideal clients. She emphasizes that there is no secret formula; achieving dream clients is a natural result of years of hard work, consistency, and continuously improving one's skills, business, and client experience. Crayling shares her personal journey, starting from low-paid projects, to illustrate that success is earned through perseverance and tenacity. She redefines "dream client" not as a famous name, but as a collaborative partner—someone who fosters mutual respect and creativity, making the work process enjoyable and profitable for both parties. The core advice is to focus on authenticity, take pride in your output, and commit to daily self-betterment. While viral breaks can happen, sustaining success requires grinding through challenges. Ultimately, dream clients will come when you deserve them through dedicated effort and staying true to yourself.

You just got to work really hard. You have to stay consistent. You have to persevere, have tenacity. Do a lot of hard fucking work. Make sure you're proud of what you're doing. And just keep at it. [MUSIC PLAYING] Welcome to The Dream Smarter Podcast, a no BS conversation about entrepreneurship and becoming successful in smart and efficient ways. [MUSIC PLAYING] What is up, everyone? Welcome to this week's episode of The Dream Smarter Podcast. My name is Alex Crayling. I'm the host of the show, and I am the founder of Hyman Studio, which is a branding agency. We also have education for designers and just entrepreneurs who want to utilize strategic aesthetics in their business and scale their business and all the fun stuff. So today, we are talking how to get your dream clients. And this probably isn't going to be what you think it is. It's not going to be this like-- here all the stuff to get your dream clients. I'm actually going to tell you the cold hard fucking truth of getting your dream clients in it. I feel if other people are sitting out there telling you differently, then they're probably playing you. Let's just get right into it. [MUSIC PLAYING] So the cold hard truth to finding your dream clients is literally just a natural progression of you bettering your work and bettering your business and bettering your client experience. That's it. It's really easy to look at Hyman Studio and where we are right now and be like, oh god, they have their dream clients. It was so easy for them to get them. How did they just get them? How did they just do it? And the fact of the matter is, I have been working with clients now for 10 years. You know what I mean? I started working with other people on design projects when I was in middle school, actually. So it's been much longer than that. But like, paying clients, I was working with people in grad school doing stuff for free and then doing stuff for like $200. That's what I'm talking about paying. So the cold hard truth is it's not easy. There is no like secret to finding your dream clients. There's no fast track to success. There's nothing that's going to like get you to your dream clients. The only way that's actually going to get you there is doing the work, making great work, whatever you do, whether it's a product or a service or whatever, just like doing it in a way that makes people want it. Like actually being a great artist in my case, branding and website design. Like actually being a true creative and coming up with ideas that are only my own and coming up with, you know what I mean, a style and basically like honing in on my design style to the point where it's just different than everybody else's. And so of course, like some people will want it. A lot of people probably don't like my design style, you know what I'm saying? So it's, when you're actually in your lane, you're going to repel people, which is good, because you just want people who want what you can offer, you know what I'm saying? So realistically finding your dream clients, it's just like, it's just a natural progression. There's no fucking trick, okay? Like I have worked my ass off to get here. And I still like, of course I'm working with my dream clients, okay? But what is a dream client in all reality? Like people actually ask me this question a lot. And to me, this is, I mean, this is like, unpopular opinion, I think, but my dream client is myself. I find the most joy in creating projects for myself, like starting new businesses for myself and branding those businesses and creating the product. Like that's where I find the most joy, and that's what I want to keep moving into in the future. So all of our clients, like my dream clients, when it comes to the clients that we work with, like we're starting to work with some really dope people. And not saying that we haven't in the past, right? We've always worked with really dope people. We're starting to, let's just say move into new industries, wink, wink, coming soon. But basically, my favorite clients or my dream clients are the ones that are a dream to work with, okay? Not like, oh my god, I want to work with XYZ influencer blah, blah, blah. Like I want to work with amazing women and men, particularly in the future, you know? Not saying we don't work with men, we just, it's not really our target market as of now. But I just want to work with amazing people who support our creativity and we support theirs. And it's this beautiful collaboration full of respect and just, yeah, like love. You know what I'm saying? Just like this love for each other of, I respect what you're doing and you respect what I'm doing. And we can do this together and we can make it super fun and easy and carefree and wonderful. At the end, you're going to have a gorgeous, amazing product. And yes, we're both going to work very hard at getting there because there is a lot of hard work on both ends that goes into, you know, a project with us because we obviously need to get stuff from the client. So there's definitely work that the client has to go through. But the end product is always amazing and the end product always makes you more, way more money than what you paid for it. So that is my dream client. Like that's our dream clients. And I've kind of like released, I don't know why there's this thing of like, your dream client, your dream client, your dream client, you know? I mean, I think to some people they do have dream clients, but for me, I really don't. I mean, it's myself, like I said. And I always felt kind of weird about that. Like I've never really been somebody who has, even when somebody's like, who are you looking up to? Like I, it's, I don't have someone in particular that I would like want to eat dinner with, you know what I'm saying? Like when they say, if you could eat dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be? It's like, well, fuck, I don't know. Like, I don't know. I've just never been a person to have an answer to that question. And I always thought I was a little weird because of it, but, but now I'm realizing I'm not. Like I, I don't look at people, like I can learn something from everyone, basically. I don't think that I'm above anyone. I don't think anyone's above me. I mean, it's just one of those things where it's like I would love to learn from anyone, you know? Like you can learn lessons from anyone. So if you're somebody who doesn't have like a dream client, don't get down on yourself, but basically this whole episode, it's going to be really short because this is all to say. You have to persevere. Have tenacity. Go through, like do a lot of hard fucking work, which I've already said you got to work really hard, but I'm going to say it again. Make sure what you're doing is perfect. I think that's a big part of it. Like you have to be proud of what you're putting out there, whether it's an Instagram post or a client project or a product or whatever it is. And just keep at it. Keep at it. I mean, sure, there are some people who get their big breaks, whether it's like something going viral or this or that and good for them. It's a lot hard, it's really hard to sustain it, by the way. I mean, like we grew really fast. And it's, you know, growing pains are a real thing and it's hard to grow a business that fast it really is. It's not easy and that's why I work all the time. So just know that like it will come, there's no secret. The secret is just like keep fucking going. There's no secret, but the secret is. You get me. Just keep going. Just keep fucking going. You will get it. You will get there as long as you're being yourself, you know? Like listen to last week's episode if you haven't yet, but the curse of copying. Like just make sure you're being yourself and then just keep fucking at it and try and better whatever that version of yourself is every single day. Like just, you know, you against yourself, you against your team, against your team, your business, against your business. Like let's go. That's the trick. So there it is. Done, done, done. Alright, well I hope this pumped you up. You'll get your dream clients when you deserve to get them and I'm like a full believer in the universe and it offers you what you need right now. So just trust, trust, work hard, try and better yourself every day and just you'll get there. You'll get there. Alright friends, I'll see you next week. Thank you for listening to this episode of the Dream Smarter Podcast. My name is Alex Crailing and I challenge you to grow your business the smart way, not the hard way.
