How To Find Peace Amidst The Chaos (with Tim Ross)
99m 0s
The transcript explores the concept of peace in a society overwhelmed by chronic triggers and trauma. It argues that people mistakenly chase temporary releases—like substances, entertainment, or social media—believing they will bring relief, but true peace is internal and permanent. The conversation highlights that trauma, including micro-traumas from events like the pandemic and political polarization, has created widespread dysregulation, where people easily lose their peace over minor provocations. This dysregulation has become the norm, even among Christians who confess faith yet react strongly to external stimuli.
The discussion emphasizes that Jesus offers a distinct peace (John 14:27), not as a temporary fix but as a gift through the Holy Spirit. This peace is not the absence of emotions like anger or sadness but the ability to remain regulated despite them. It requires active making, not passive keeping, and sometimes involves disruptive conversations to establish lasting peace. The example of Jesus sleeping during the storm (Mark 4) illustrates divine regulation: a calm that allows one to navigate chaos without being overwhelmed. The key is to recognize that peace comes from the Prince of Peace and must be cultivated daily, as even subtle currents can drift one away from it. The message is a call to reclaim this gift, rejecting the false peace of the world for a supernatural, enduring peace that empowers believers to face any situation without fear.
A society which is always triggered is always chasing a release because they they have become convinced that release brings relief. The peace is the relief. The release will never bring relief. I have learned that what so ever stayed I'm in I can be content because I have peace. The what's never my issue is the why. To me people who crash out I become convinced the only way they can give peace is still yours. What's up everybody welcome to the leaders card as you can already see my best friend on planet earth is in the house and we are going to have quite the fun conversation today because we've all essentially already had an episode all to ourselves. So it's right down the hall. Yeah it's true and that's typically how we roll this one right here though this this is going to be a fun one and I know for a fact that many on the other side of this conversation are waiting for a divine post that know about the very thing we're talking about today. We're talking about peace and this is not just a burden to me wrote a book that comes out on a couple of weeks called the missing piece but we're not just talking about the book that you know this is something we've been talking about and and there I say you paid full price to walk with this absolutely absolutely quick and I listen I now that I'm in this this book writing deal I'm kind of learning what the landscape is like yeah there are books and then there are books the Lord asked for. I'm sure that there are books I agree people just want to write right in their books I believe God asked specifically for and I'm not just saying it because you're my friend everybody knows my theory about things things are getting more difficult with every passing week by design by divine design and what we're talking about our next two episodes together is an essential message for the day in which we're living I agree so let's pray and we're going to jump right in and we're going to get it today. Spirit of the living God this is what you do yes Lord this is what you do and Jesus you are the Prince of peace and so we we just invite a divine saturation yes Lord a supernatural saturation yes Lord of our conversation our time Holy Spirit would you invade our spaces in this moment I pray for divine regulation yes Lord where there is dysregulation I pray for calm in the midst of chaos yes Lord I pray for deep breaths yes Lord and slow size yes Lord as we just dive into your word and see there's nothing to fear for you are with us Jesus is in our boat so Holy Spirit if there is anything in me or in us getting in your way right now related to the peace we were created to carry and to live in and with Holy Spirit would you cut on our flesh yes Lord to make more room for the peace which only comes from the Prince of Peace in Jesus in Jesus name Amen a man to win this this is going to be a blast because I basically just get to set you up I know we have to before we get to the peace portion of the conversation we have to talk about one of the biggest things that keeps people from being regulated from living in peace yep strama absolutely I mean it goes yes the roots and tentacles can go way back yes right absolutely so let's let's talk as we begin this conversation about what typically can get in the way and how to navigate yeah learning what that is and and how to deal with it yeah so I'm glad you started there because trauma when people think of trauma they they think of the worst right you're thinking of abuse accidents death yeah tragedy but I don't think we're we're acutely aware of the micro the micro traumas that our society has been going through just the last six years so good right yep and so compounded it feels like a car wreck you they're responding the same way as I was responding to the trauma of being sexually abused when I was eight years old right and so trauma is trauma is trauma right like you don't have to go through the same thing to be experiencing the same things this is what I love about you because some people when they hear the word trauma some already are going this episode ain't for me right exactly I wasn't traumatized as a six-year-old child exactly this is what I love about you where you go trauma is trauma trauma trauma is trauma in the last six years on the earth yeah there is an in ordina yeah amount of trauma absolutely correct has been experience that's right man kind that's right when you think about post traumatic stress disorder we always think about somebody that served in our armed forces right and we think that the horrors of war are the only markers of PTSD but what about the absence of friends what about the absence of connectivity what about the polarizing nature of vaccinations elections family dinners that were supposed to be about Thanksgiving crumbled into chaotic conversations where no one could could define the side that they were trying to be on those emotions running high and with peace running low left us in a deficit it left us void lonely scared and really unprepared for how to navigate life coming out on the other side we didn't come out of quarantine happier we didn't come out of quarantine with this divine reset of light right the Lord just brought you know he brought us in so we could work on ourselves and we've come out better people no no left to ourselves many of us in silos we actually came out worse we came out more confused we came out more crashed out we came out more emboldened to call out right what we felt like was anything that disagree with our position so trauma is trauma is trauma yeah and trauma which is not healed creates a consistent baseline of dysregulation absolutely correct and I think dysregulation has become the new normal oh unfortunately it has and I think I think we were talking about this earlier my heart aches for the church for how many people I see that I have relationships with that are literally crashing out at almost every news headline they read almost every comment section that they view yeah and almost every post that they scroll pass that it's almost like I wake up in the morning waiting to see who I'm gonna allow to take my piece it's great who I'm gonna allow to take my joy someone's gonna take it today I'm still not I don't know I don't know who it is I'm already I'm gonna let the first five pass but that one right there that one oh I gotta say something on this one you're not gonna get away with saying that right and it's like wow these are the same people that confessed Jesus's Lord and that God raised him from the dead that's bothering you that stole your press right that took away your joy right like you didn't even talk to them if that person or that thing can steal my piece my piece clearly didn't come from the press and this is it's just some faux piece that's right if I can lose my piece every day yeah that easily or not quickly it's not from a real piece that's absolutely correct and and Jesus actually talked about this in John chapter number 14 verse number 27 he literally says in his different variations of this verse depending on your translation but I'll go with peace I am leaving with you this piece I'm giving to you right peace I give you peace I leave with you
But not as the world gives. So he's strongly and loudly implying. The world has a version of peace. But it's temporary. Like the world, you can go to the world and they will give you a temporary reprieve from whatever you're feeling. And I know we could, when we start thinking about that, we always go to devices, right? Drugs, alcohol, sex. You know what I'm saying? All the elicit stuff. But also the Netflix binge, right? I'm gonna go spin. Doom scrolling. $15,000 for three days of FIFA, right? I haven't paid my bills, but I just want to temporary reprieve from this. Some retail shopping, that Amazon dopamine hit felt really, really good. But you're gonna come down, whether you're on the elicit side or the complicit side, right? The stuff that we would complicitately say, God, no harm, no foul, right? It's gonna wear off. And then you're still gonna need something more. Whereas what Yeshua promised in John, chapter number 14 was permanent. It is eternal. You mentioned it earlier, the Eagle Eye Prophet, as I've known, I've been known to call him, Isaiah, describes this coming Messiah as the everlasting Father, the mighty God. Wonderful counselor, yeah, yeah. Wonderful counselor, everlasting Father, mighty God, Prince of Peace. And then we get all the way over to his last conversation that he's having with the disciples before everything's about to hit the fan. And he goes, I can leave you anything right now. All power is gonna be bestowed upon me. I'm gonna pay the ultimate price. I could leave you anything. Power, resources, money, equipment. I don't know, I could leave you anything. He leaves peace of all the things that Yeshua could have left us. In the earth, He said, I am leaving you with my gift. There's a gift I'm giving to you. I've had it this entire time, but now I'm bestowing you to, it's so important that you get this gift that I need you to wait into a room until it comes. Because without this gift, anything else that you get, you won't keep. And if you do keep it, you'll destroy it. Because power without peace is destructive. And money with no peace is abused. And resources with no peace cannot even be appreciated. So He literally says, I'm going to give you an extravagant gift. Peace. And this is literally a gift that comes in the person of the Holy Spirit. Now, this is coming from a charismatic dude, right? Who grew up hearing about power, the Holy Spirit's power. God's wonderful working power. Power, power, power, power. And Preston, I grew up around people that rejoiced about his power, but had no peace. I saw with my own eyes moved in the Holy Spirit's power, but without the Holy Spirit's peace. Held services that were by and large. I got to say this now with all hindsight, I think there was more dysregulation than there was a move in the Spirit. It was a celebration of power at the expense of his peace. And the Holy Spirit's personhood is peace. It's not power, it's peace that empowers you to do supernatural things, but with the regulated nervous system. If dysregulation has become the norm, talk to me about what regulation looks like because I don't even know if people can recognize it. Absolutely. So I grew up hearing the saying, I just need some peace and quiet. If I could just get some peace and quiet. And in my studying for this book and my research and downloads from the Holy Spirit, I realize peace is quiet. It's not peace and peace is quiet. It is calm. It is the ability to be aware of what's going on around you, but not allow what is around you to take your peace with it. So regulation looks like a situation that's very bad, right? Filling the blank on what bad is to you, right? 'Cause that's relative. A situation is very, very bad. And I'm calm. Now, I gotta go slow right here because people think if I'm calm, then I don't feel anger and I don't feel sadness and I don't feel slightly aggravated and I don't feel peace has to be the absence of all of those things. No, peace is the presence of all of those things and the ability to continue to be regulated through them. So I can be sad and still have peace. I can be mad and still have peace. 'Cause remember, all of our emotions are informants. They're little snitches. They just come to tell us how we're feeling right now. That's why we never wanna place our faith in our feelings because they're fleeting. Happiness is, he could have left his happiness. How come he didn't leave his happiness? Because happiness is temporary. Happiness is subjective. All of our feelings, right? And so, and if they're not subjective, they can be absolutely dead on informing us of the right thing and we still get to choose who's gonna lead us. Where's my anger gonna lead me? Where's my happiness gonna lead me? Where's my frustration gonna lead me? And when you have peace, you have the regulation to be led in the right direction. - That's great. - Yeah. - No matter what you're being led into. I think the way we've wrongly seen peace is that it's a trade-off, that we have to trade this. In order to keep this, when in reality, peace is a refusal to trade. - Absolutely correct. - Two things gonna be true, so I think it's correct. - In other words, well, if I go that way, there's gonna be a storm and I know what's on the other side, but I don't wanna go through the storm so to keep my peace, which is very, "I'm gonna keep your peace." I'm just gonna trade, I gotta keep my peace. - Yep. - That's not what we're talking about. The Bible doesn't say blessed are the peace keepers. It says blessed are the peace makers. - Makers. - We make peace. We don't keep peace. Keeping peace is passive. It is, you'll let a lot of stuff happen to you. - Trying to keep. - That will actually rob you of peace. - Rob you of the peace that you're actually trying to-- - When you convince you're trying to keep your peace. - When you make peace, sometimes you have to disrupt first to establish the peace second. You're not afraid to get into what I refer to as courageous conversations. Conversations that are gonna be difficult to have. Why? Because I wanna get to a place of peace, but in order for us to get there, we're gonna have to disrupt the status quo real quick. We're gonna have to have conversations that we normally wouldn't wanna have because both of us are gonna feel uneasy, but if the end result is peace, it's worth it. - But see, I think people look at courageous conversations and go that actually cost me peace. And it's really more, you just don't know how to have - Yeah. - Created conversations. - And it's gonna lead to more peace. - When you make something, when you make a sandwich, you gotta do something. There's ingredients involved, right? I gotta take out two slices of bread and then I gotta get whatever condiments I want on it and then I gotta figure out what am I slapping in between these two pieces of bread? Is it lettuce, tomato, onions? What meat am I having? Is it an egg sandwich? Probably for me, it's gonna be some fried eggs. I have to make it. - Yeah. - It takes some, there's assembly required, right? Some assembly required. And in the same way, peace is something that you have to make. There's enough every single day to take it.
Just live in life. You ain't got to be in no crazy situation. You don't need a storm to hit. If you are on, I'll never forget when I started Brickhouse, I had never been a pastor at all, let alone anybody, a young adult pastor. I was 30 years old. And I was now gonna be pastoring 19 to 30 year olds. Medium age was 24. A college student trying to find a mate. I graduated from high school, never went to college and got married at 23. So I thought I have no, I don't need, I'm not qualified to talk to young adults. I don't even relate to them, right? And I'm still one of them. And I went to the Holy Spirit. I said, I don't know what young adults need. And he said, young adults need an anchor for their soul. He said, "Cathed Tim, on a clear day, "would a calm sky with no wind blowing, "a boat with no anchor will still drift away." (laughing) We think a storm needs to come to take our peace. The current will take your peace. - Your savage. - What's happening currently in our lives that are making us drift away from the epicenter of peace? It ain't a storm breaking out. It's just a subtle and completely clandestine, nature of the current that will literally take you up out of here, bro. - And that is the satanic subtlety where little by little, he gets you further and further from the mark. - And you turn around and you're going, I haven't slept good in months. Where did my peace go? Again, it doesn't have to be a cataclysmic event. Sometimes it's just the natural ebb and flow, the currents of our life, the current affairs in our lives. And you look up and you're like, I don't have my peace no more. That's like, that's what I'm passionate about, restore it. - Yeah. - It's as clear as when the majority begin to learn how to live without peace. We should be fighting as the children of God who have been left with the gift of peace. - It's a gift. We should be declaring shouting from the rooftop. This doesn't have to be normal. And I have to say this 'cause I wanna make sure that it's not assumed. The peace that I'm talking about as a person in his name is the Holy Spirit. This is what Jesus promised. If you read 14, 15, 16 of John, this is his description of who he's bringing to live in the disciples because he's no longer gonna be with the disciples. I've been side by side with you. He's going to be inside of you. And he calls him counselor and comforter and advocate and he will convict the world. He's a convicted. But when he says peace, he's not talking about chieobumps. He's talking about that person. I'm, this is the gift. My father's giving you this. This is the only gift I can give you. You've seen it demonstrated in my life. There's no way I could be navigating the stuff that I have navigated. And what you will see me navigate on the cross if I wasn't carrying this peace. Without that peace, does he willingly go into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil? You just have the greatest day of your life up into that point. This is my son and whom I am well pleased, right? The Holy Spirit descends like as a dove who has peace to go into the wilderness? Well, the person who has peace on the inside of him, I can handle 40 days, no liquids, no food because I have a governor on the inside of me, let him know I don't have anything to be afraid of. And there's nothing to be troubled by. That's the peace that we need to have. I want you to paint the picture because you're getting close right here. There's a picture of Jesus, who we were talking earlier, Stephen, and we can go through Paul, let's talk about what it looks like. Yep, to actually be divinely regulated. Yep, no matter what's going on around you. Mark chapter number four. And I got to read it because we like to eat the book. I mean, and this is what we should be doing, right? So Mark chapter number four. Verse 35. Verse number 35. Now on the same day in the evening, he says to them, let's cross over to the other side. After leaving the crowd, they take him along in the boat just as he was and other boats were with him. A great wind storm arises and the waves were rushing into the boat. The boat was beginning to fill up, but Yeshua was in the back of the boat, sleeping on a pillow. Okay, now, prayers, if a pillow is involved at all, you didn't doze off, right? You got comfortable. This is a choice. This is a choice, okay? And these are seafaring men. They know the seas. It's not they first storms. It's not they first wind storm. This is not their first rodeo at all, right? But it gets so bad. They wake him up and say to him, "Teacher, don't you care that we are perishing?" Now I gotta go slow on this. Because this is how you know that they're dysregulated. You know that they're dysregulated because of the way that they're interpreting the moment that they're in. When we are dysregulated as human beings, when our cortisol spikes, we lose 30% of our ability to reason and judge off the rip. When your brain gets cloudy, you cannot see things. We all know that feeling. We've all been there, right? So now, if these do's are seafarers and that shook them, I'm not the person reading into the text going, "If I was the Arabian, sleep with. " Next to Jesus. If it shook them. Then I'm shook it. (laughs) What shook them would still be shaking me right now, right? 'Cause this not even my job, this not even my industry, okay? So they wake him up, but they're so dysregulated, they interpret through their dysregulation what this scene is. Teacher, we're dying. You don't care? So now you're implying that Jesus brought, told y'all, "Let's get in the boat and go to the other side." And he brought you out here to kill y'all while he slept. Not him. How many of us? Thank you, Holy Spirit. Let me go slower. How many dysregulated prayers have we prayed? Where we're like, "God, I don't know why you're trying to kill me. (laughs) I don't know what I did to you." And God's like, "What? It's just a storm. What are you talking about? I'm not doing anything to you. But when we're dysregulated, we read the situation incorrectly. Not nine times out of 10. 10 times out of 10 when we're dysregulated, we're not seeing the picture clearly, okay? Now let me tell you how much of a boss Jesus is. So he woke up and we got it, I'm gonna go slow prayers 'cause this is too good. So he woke up. And rebuked the wind. Let me go slow. He didn't talk to the disciples. He woke up, he passed them. He woke up right past them. Now why is that important? Because Jesus, as the Prince of Peace, completely regulated in the situation, understands that it is fruitless to speak to a person who is dysregulated. They can't hear you. So he doesn't address them when he wakes up because they're not in a position to listen yet 'cause they're still dysregulated. So he gets up, he rebukes the wind and he said to the C quiet, be still. Most of our texts say peace be still, right? But Tree of Life says quiet, be still. Then the wind stopped and it became totally calm. So let's get the sequence, right? Jesus sleep, dysregulation wakes him up. But when he wakes up, he's not dysregulated. How many times is a dysregulated person came to us, dysregulated and their dysregulation
took our regulation. How'd you care that we're, "Huh, huh, what do you mean? There's water in the bowl. Why you ain't gonna be up? Oh my God, we're not gonna lie. We're not gonna lie. He doesn't match their regulation. He doesn't even address it. He doesn't talk to them at all. - He walks right by it. - Walks right by it. Y'all are dysregulated right now. I'll be with you in a minute. - And I'll hold on. We're not even hitting when we're dysregulated. We end up rebuking everything else. Except the thing that actually is the real problem. They rebuke Jesus. They, they, they, they, they, they, they shower. The NLT. Don't you care? Shouting. Shouting. Don't you care. We're going to drown. They rebuke him. - And he walks right past them. - Walks right past him. Now notice what Jesus rebukes. He doesn't rebuke everything. - Yeah. - He doesn't rebuke them. - It's clinic. - He doesn't rebuke the wind. - And, and, and, he, let me finish. He doesn't rebuke them, the wind and the waves. He only rebuke the wind. Why does he only rebuke the wind? The waves are what's rocking the boat. But the waves are only rocking the boat. Because the wind is agitating the waves. When you're regulated, you have enough discernment to know what's rebuking, what to tell to calm down. How many people, how many parents are rebuking their children instead of looking for what's agitated in their children, and rebuking the agitated and then telling their kids to calm down. How many marriages, how many people are rebuking their spouses, fighting with their spouses instead of trying to figure out, what's agitating you? - Nasty. - And then rebuking the thing that's agitating you so that I can make not the agitated. He rebukes the wind, the waves calm down. When the waves calm down, the boat calms down. When the boat calms down, the disciples calms down. And only when the disciples calms down, why are you afraid? Don't question anybody in their dysregulation. They won't be able to give you a good answer. Why are you afraid? Even now you have no faith. 'Cause if you say this to the person why they're dysregulated, they're gonna get offended. They've regulated enough to know and respond like this. They were struck with awe and said to one another, who is this? Even the wind and the sea obey you. Now, again, this is only my benefit of being a third party observer thousands of years later, right? I think they should have asked another question besides who is this. Press the question that I'm intrigued by more than who is this in this moment is, what is that? 'Cause I don't have that. Every time a dark cloud forms, I get dysregulated. Bump a storm. Bump my boat rocking. If the waves churn a little bit, I feel myself getting dysregulated. What is that? What do you have? How are you able to still be calm at a time like this? That's what we wanna be known for, Press, especially during times like these. Exactly right. This is the perfect opportunity to show a dying, dark world being shaken all over the earth. Yo, if you wanna prove right now that you have someone on the inside of you that differentiates you from what's going on with the rest of the world. You don't need to get louder. You need to get calmer. Everybody else is trying to get so loud. Yellen and Screamin. Matching dysregulation with more dysregulation. You wanna really prove? You have that in you. Talk to him. Talk to him. Their question was, who is this? That's right. You said something great before we started in our pre-up so you said the question they should have asked is what is this? That's exactly right. What is this? That's right. Because I want you to imagine in the world that we are currently living in, what it's like to see everyone around you crashing out and you just in the corner, I'm about it. You just eating your little sandwich. Head on emotional pillow. Head on an emotional pillow, watching everybody else crash out at the waves and the currents that are going on in our society right now. That's right. Making dysregulation and crashing out normal. Social media making it normal. And here you are in the corner. Head on an emotional pillow. Chillin. Hard. And when asked, don't you care about this? The wars and rumors of wars. This doesn't bother you. This is the biggest burden of our day. This is the crisis that every believer should and I'm not troubled or afraid of this. Dooly noted, I see what you see, but the promise I got from the Prince of Peace is that I don't have to be troubled or afraid by anything that I'm looking at. And this is coming. You talked about this earlier and I wanna, I wanna like Paul did when he was like, look, let me just give you my resume real quick. Are they apostles? I am too. And then he goes through all of his, I've been beaten. I've been, right, 40 lashes save one. But let me tell you how I'm not a, the exact same type of apostle as this. Right? This is my resume. So my resume is this press. I was sexually abused at the age of eight years old by an older teenage boy that lived across the street from me for about a six month period of time. Obviously, when you're sexualized at that age, you don't know what's going on, right? So I'm living in confusion. I'm living in anxiety, all kind of stuff. I get exposed to pornography when I'm 12. It could have been alcohol, it could have been weed, it could have been crack cocaine. I saw my first crack rock in seventh grade, okay? My friend Damien, let me see the crack rock he bought to school, okay? Point of became my coping mechanism, point of masturbation. Adding to that, my older brother founded a gang and so you have environmental trauma where the wrong color could get you killed. Not claiming a gang could get you killed. Claiming a gang could get you killed. Like, where's the win here, right? Without going into a lot of details, a gang situation went down where my life and my brother's life were threatened because they couldn't get to my older brother. So my younger brother and I is life were threatened. I grew up in that level of trauma. So you got sexual trauma, you got environmental trauma, and then you got addiction and low self-esteem, some suicidal ideation because I never thought I was gonna get over any of that. I give my life to Jesus when I am 20 and a half years old, January 14th of 1996. And I would love to tell you that on that day, the peace of God overwhelmed me and I've been walking like this for the last 30 years. No, but what I sensed on that day and what I've received the revelation of over the last 30 years is that the peace that Yeshua afforded me by dying on the cross and shedding his blood for my sins is something that I refuse to trade in for anything else. And you have to contend for this. Paul writes it this way, as much as lieth with thin you, live peaceably as much as life within you, live peaceably with all men. Not it's the contingent upon you. If you do right, I'll do right. No, I'm not trading in my peace for the crash out. - Yeah. - I'm not trading in my peace for the party. I'm not trading in my peace for the alliance. I'm not trading in my peace for a side. It is, I've had to pay an expensive price for this peace that literally is an internal comb that regulates my bodily nervous system. I'm not talking about, I feel happy 'cause I listen to a worship song, right? I'm not talking about I was in the presence of the Lord and I wept and I felt the presence of God in the peace of God. That's a moment. That's a 9/30 service. Now I'm a need this. - A constant abiding, never departing, no matter what or where. - I'm a need this at 9 p.m. on a Sunday, right? I'm gonna need this at 8.30 a.m. on a Monday in traffic. It's like when you realize that he literally gave you a person to live inside of you who is the eternal peace of God, that I get to partake in that and that I don't have to opt into what is triggering all of society. - Right. Why would I trade that? - Yeah, a society.
which is always triggered is always chasing a release. Because they have become convinced that release brings relief. Let's attach this to pornography. I have a terrible porn problem. I've just, porn has always been a problem in my life. Maybe if you dig around the soil of your heart, a little bit longer, talk somewhere way back down the line, you became convinced that the fastest way to regulate and receive relief was to go chase that release. We can talk about any vice that we want to. It's not the root. It's the fruit. Something about someone's porn problem is, and only talking about that, you've got to stop watching porn. It would be like handing you a box of clean-necks when you tell me you have to flu. Your running nose is the symptom of a flu. Your running nose is not the flu. Stopping your running nose doesn't stop the flu. We didn't get to the root. We're dealing with the fruit, but we're not getting to the root. My porn addiction was directly linked to sexual abuse at eight. Because I didn't even know how to face the traumatic memories of that abuse, I numbed it with pornography and masturbation. Once I realized how temporary that piece is, I realized I needed something more permanent. This wasn't about like, "I got to stop watching porn because it's bad." It was, this coping mechanism is never going to outlast the pain of these memories unless I address those memories and then ask for God's peace. It is a temper whether it's weed, whether it's alcohol, whether it's a threesome, whether it's pornography, a temporary. Oh, Oli, because we're on the list. I'm going to put one out there that I didn't even know how to say this, but I got to say it. Ministry. There's some people. Yep. This is not about community. This is about immunity. I want to inoculate myself from feeling other stuff. I just serve in church. I'm all about church and I just church. That doesn't mean you're addressing your situation. I read my Bible every day and I got worshiped on 24/7. That doesn't mean you're facing your situation. If you have to keep taking a hit, you have not addressed the hurt. If you've got to keep going, whatever that, whatever this is. It's good. And everybody wants to talk about the what. Right. I got this problem. That's the what. Don't settle for dwelling in the land of what. That's right. You're presently wrestling with. That's not it. You're present on the what? Yeah. To the why. Yeah, that's right. Why are we doing this? The peace of God that passes all understanding that show guard your heart and mind through Christ Jesus is dealing with the why. It's not dealing with what. And this is why. Oh. That's a nasty, stich, holy spirit. I have learned that whatever state I'm in, I can be content because I have peace. What God. Why am I in this situation? You must have purpose for this. Now I don't care about the what. I understand the why. And I have peace for whatever situation I'm in. That is what we want. That is what we're after. Like this is the. My burden, praise is that starting with us as believers, right? From the inside out, I want this for the world as well. I talked. I was on a pod with a guy who's not a believer. He read the book. He sped read it before he had the interview with me. And then almost couldn't get through the interview with me without crying multiple times. And then at the end said, I'm going to go back and read it against slow-roading. And he was like, I'm not religious. But you've made me think about some things. I'm like, "Abril, I want you to get Jesus." But if Jesus is not the point of entry that you feel like you can connect to right now, I need you to break the silence. I just need you to be able to put your pain into words. What you're going to feel when you put your pain into words is going to be something that you can't actually put into words. But once you say it, your whole body is going to respond and say, finally, my God, right? If you believe in God. Or my word, whatever, there's going to be a sense of relief because your body has been waiting on you to tell the truth about what has been through. It's so great. We talk about the body keeping score. Who's the official that's actually communicating the score? The scoreboard says what the score is. It displays what the score is. Somebody has to say it. Somebody had a call game. Somebody has to say, Lakers 103 Pacers 99. I'm down 42. Right? We got to be, we have to be people that are brave enough to go face the traumas, macro or micro or both and be able to put into words what it is that we've been through because our bodies will not heal what we do not reveal. It's great. We talk about in our next episode, I want to talk about the how. But I feel like in this first conversation, we're casting a burden for why. Yes. Because they got to catch the why. That's right. Before they learn the how. Absolutely. For sure. We talk about what dysregulation looks like. Let's flip the script. Let's talk about what regulation. So we use Jesus. But some might say, but that's that's Jesus sweet. So let's move to Paul. No, I don't even want to move to Paul yet. Let's move to Peter and John. Acts chapter number four. I'm going to start from verse one and I'm going to read a lot of this because this is spectacular. As Peter and John were speaking to the people, the cohenim, the priest and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came up to them. They were indignant because Paul and John were teaching the people and announcing in Yeshua the resurrection of the dead. So they grabbed them and put them in jail until the next day for it was already evening. But many who heard the message believed and the number of men came to about 5,000. Let me just pause and say. This is a story that's already in progress starting in Acts chapter number three and what happens in Acts chapter number three is that when they go into the temple to pray, there's a layman at the gate called beautiful. They heal the power of Jesus heals the layman. He goes in walking, leaping in praise and God. And then this gets the attention of the the Torah scholars and the Sadducees and then they get Peter and John and that's why we're reading this right now. And the next day the rulers and elders and Torah scholars were gathered together in Jerusalem and as the Cohen Goddard, the high priest with their and Caiaphas and John and Alexander and all those who were of high priestly descent. When they had placed John Peter and John in their midst, they began to inquire by what power or in what name did you do this now before I read something. This and Caiaphas are the ones that put the hit on Jesus. These are the ones that got them killed and now Peter and John are right in front of the same people that put the hit on their rabbi. This could be incredibly intimidating. Remember where we found Peter right after his crucifixion? There was behind locked doors and then he went back to his old job, right? So these weren't people that had the peace of God yet.
But this is Acts 4. Acts 2 has already happened. The Holy Spirit has fallen and now we're here. Then Peter, filled with the Ruaqa Qudash, said to them, "Rulers and elders of the people, "if we were on trial today for Amit's fa, "done for a sick man, "as to how this fellow was healed, "let it be known to all of you "and to all the people of Israel "that by the name of Yeshua Ha-Mashyak. Ha Nazrati, whom you had crucified, whom God raised from the dead, "this one stands before you whole. "This Yeshua is the stone, "rejected by you the builders "that has become the chief cornerstone. "There is salvation in no one else, "stand two toes down, fam. "Two feet down in this ground, homie. "There is no, "this is after doing a night in jail, homie. "There is no salvation, "there is salvation in no one else "for there is no other name under heaven "given to mankind by which we must be saved." Now, when they saw the boatness of Peter and John and figured out they were laymen without training, they were amazed. They began to realize that these men had been with Yeshua. But seeing the healed man standing there, with them, standing with them, they had nothing to say in response. When they had ordered Peter and John to go out of the council chamber, they began to confer with one another saying, "What shall we do with these men?" For indeed, it's obvious to everyone living in Jerusalem that a remarkable miracle has happened to them, and we cannot deny it. But so it won't spread any further among the people. Let's warn them not to speak anymore to anyone in this name. So they called them in and ordered them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Yeshua. But Peter and John replied, "Whether it is right in the sight of God "to listen to you rather than to God, you decide. "For we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen "and heard after threatening them again." They let them go, finding no way they could punish them on account of the people. Because they all were glorifying God for what had happened, for the man in whom this miracle of healing and had happened was more than 40 years old. Okay, let me just pause and say, we could talk about bonus, we could talk about being empowered by the Holy Spirit, but you don't face a night in jail and multiple threats and not bad in I unless you have peace. This peace starts popping off way before Paul. (laughs) Because peace empowers you to do the supernatural. You're not getting power at the expense of peace. So it is with a regulated nervous system that they're empowered to be bold enough to look in somebody's face, who's threatening them, who does have the power to make a jail night turn into multiple nights, turn into the same death sentence that their Messiah received. Why don't they care? Because they have something on the inside of them that is literally, and I'm gonna keep saying this, and you're gonna read this in the book, if you decide to pick up the book, it is literally regulating their bodily nervous system. They are calm. We'll put you in jail for another night. So I mean, you gotta do what you gotta do. I mean, whether it's right in the eyes of God, I don't know, but we can't stop preaching about what we've heard. Well, we don't want you preaching in your shoe with a name anymore. I mean, I know, yeah, I hear it. I hear you. It's not gonna happen. So you wanna put this back in jail, or what you're trying to do? It wasn't on this, like, "Yo, better." "I'm regulated." I hear everything you're saying. That sounds scary. I mean, I'm pretty sure that doesn't sound comfortable. Peter got a wife. I would like to go home to my wife, but if not, put this back in the sale. But we're not gonna stop talking about it. By the way, y'all don't wanna kill it? Only regulation can do that. And you read story after story, you mentioned Stephen. How do you get stoned? Rocks thrown at your face. And while they're hitting it, you're so regulated. Like Jesus, you're not even looking at them. You are looking past them. You will never read the New Testament the same way against. That's great. All you're gonna see is regulation. Yeah. Okay. But let's go back. What happens in Genesis 3? Disregulation. The moment they partake of that fruit, they're dysregulated. And the moment they're dysregulated, they don't know what to do with their own bodies. So they hide them. And when Jesus comes to look for them, the first two questions he asks humanity are the same two questions that therapists would ask you. If you sat down for your first intake session, hey, why are you right now? He's not looking for him. He's not going through the guarding and the cool of the day. Adam. The one who is everywhere. Adam. Yeah. Your camouflage is so good. I get Adam. Where I hear your breathing, did I hear twig? Adam? Are you open? Where are you? Is it self-awareness question? Yeah. It's an introspection question. Do you know where you are right now? And I don't think it was the first time he'd had been asked that question. I've said for years, I wonder if on their strolls in the cool breeze of the day, it wasn't a before-eave. Right. I wonder how many times. Yeah. Where are you? And he would have been able to answer, but when you're dysregulated, you don't answer that question the same way. You hide. You hide. Second question ever asked, who told you that? 'Cause after we get a baseline of where you are, now remember, I'm not a clinician. I, the forward of this book was written by somebody that got the letters behind their name. They got a doctorate, right? Their clinicians, they've dealt with sexual abuse and trauma therapy for years and years and years, shout out to Dr. Sarai Crane. I'm the client. I've been in the chair for 28 years. Asking, answering the question, right, I'm right here right now, and I don't like it. I'm here today and it feels, it doesn't feel good. I don't know where I am at all and I need some help. You get used to answering that question. You become acutely aware of yourself and others around you. And then the second question is who told you that? That's when we get to the foo, the family of origin stuff. Who's the first person that told you you weren't worthy? Who's the first person that made you feel like you couldn't use your voice? 'Cause that happens to us at an early age. So I'm hoping that the stuff that we discover in this book starts giving people language so they can actually open up their mouth and talk. That's correct. Because if you don't break the silence, you're never gonna get healed. Whatever doesn't come up and out of your mouth through words will come up and out of your body through actions. And the reason why we keep acting out is because we haven't learned to speak out. It just becomes normal. Oh, absolutely. It's what I love about God asking Adam a question. He begins that conversation with a question. That's right. Why do we ask questions to make room? To make room for someone else. That's right to speak out. That's absolutely correct. He did not come and say, what did you do? Right. I can't believe you got your, no, he's in a relationship. And when you're in a relationship, you ask questions. 'Cause you care. Curiosity questions. Right? Errogance assumes. I already know where you are. And I don't care what you gotta say. Let me tell you right now, you're hiding. Right. And I know where you're hiding. 'Cause you did something bad, didn't you? Denge! No, this ain't- Disregulation. Slaps statements on everything. Where's regulation? It's come enough to ask a question. Oh, thank you, Holy Spirit. Let's go back to Mark chapter number four. Why are you afraid? After they regulate, he doesn't go, ah, y'all scared. Y'all ain't ready yet. Y'all ain't even ready to be my disciples like that yet. No. Now that you're regulated, why are you afraid? Elijah.
Look into yourself Elijah on the run. What are you doing here? Who told you to come over here didn't know I'd take him up here Why are you here I alone am left making space We're speaking it out now and that's their dysregulation talking because now you're going oh So you think you're the only one you think I left you right here by yourself all right, oh man 7000 that have not bowed their head To Bell you're not the only one but now that I ask you a question you got to hear yourself too Right It's not it's one thing for me to tell you it's another thing for you to tell you yeah press 28 years in Some form of counseling and or therapy I've had to tell myself I've had to hear myself admit stuff. I never wanted to admit But my peace only came on the other side of me saying that's my issue This is my struggle That's what I wrestle with this is ugly in me. I See it. I don't like it. I'm selfish Child I can be selfish. Oh, and then after I get selfish I get petty. Oh, oh, oh I can't I'm not training in my peace for petting this I can't do it I can't do it. You got to answer these questions so great. You got to be able to you got to be able to sit and Allow the Holy Spirit internally and then someone externally. I'm not advocating for everybody to drop 150 bucks or 75 bucks or whatever they're going right for the therapist is The therapist in your area is right now. I don't need you to make a beeline into a therapist chair I need you to make a beeline to open to your mouth to somebody besides you Because you're not gonna get free by yourself and if you're walking with someone who is Consistently feeling dysregulated and up under it don't match statements with statements questions Bring questions you'll find some you'll find ways as long as you match statement with statement They'll wrestle with you absolutely correct. If you ask them a question that's your place of regulation That's right. They'll start wrestling with themselves The question Jesus as The answer was for them not for him right why you were afraid when you can answer that question our relationship would get deeper Why do you think I wanted to kill you on this boat? When you can answer that question You'll you'll change your perspective of our relationship Right now you still don't have any faith when you can answer that question you'll have more faith Yeah, we need good questions good questions give us good answers You're one of the best question asked I'll tell you this almost every time I come down here You're one of the best question askers. I have ever met in my entire life Because you care enough to be curious Well, I lived too many years being controlled by statements Hmm Beliefs inner beliefs which were I'll just say it was satanic statements agreements that I made Yep, because I wasn't willing to answer difficult questions Hmm, and I started to not just feel relief when I started asking and answering difficult questions of myself I started experiencing freedom statements The biggest mistakes I made early on in marriage to me were when I was dysregulated Feeling that slapping some statement on my wife Would give me the relief I was looking for And after a couple of years I just learned this doesn't just go nowhere This goes everywhere I don't want to go And so the you know, I wish I would have would have been the question asker since I was a child That's not actually my story. Yeah, I was too good at statements For too long and those statements created agreements And what I learned helped me break the power of agreement With lies, I believed yep was really asking and answering difficult questions that my flesh least wanted to answer This is a gift we can give this is this is what we're trying to absolutely this is what Jesus did that's exactly right in High moments of dysregulation Don't slap an exclamation mark on the end of it Like they are in dysregulation Bring a divine question mark. That's right that helps begin to calm the storm. This is accurate This is accurate so afraid. Yeah, why are you so afraid right now just just that yeah, I feel seen. Yeah, I'm afraid I was so afraid Lord. I was rebuking you. Yeah, I Wasn't even looking at this right absolutely Blaming you I made it I made it your fault right you shouldn't ask us to go today. You heard the reason for the storm right right right right right yeah And you're asking me Why am I so afraid? Why do I not yet have more faith after seeing you do all these miracles? Questions have the power to stop time they do and To help stop the storm that's right. Oh, absolutely correct in me absolutely Counselors always start sessions. That's right with questions. That's exactly right This is exactly right. I've never in all of my time sitting with the counselor I've never had a counselor start a session with a statement It's always a question always a question And I think I really do because it's in part. It's one of my favorite I do want to talk about Paul before we for sure wrap this absolutely I I love that you go to the initial I mean here's a Peter who Denies Jesus three times in the court of the high priest and And now it's standing before them all exactly right completely regulated completely regulate it. That's right That's exactly right and I'm completely regulated. Yep in front of the people who put out the head. Oh, okay, but let's go slow Disregulation in front of the teenage girl made him crash out at her question Now he's being questioned by them and in regulation there is no crash out so good. There's only calm What if what if instead of having crash outs? This is probably corny, but just go with me. I'm 50 and a half What what if what if the way we matched Societies crashing out in this season in this dispensation of time was by calming out You crash out our calm out And and let's see what it sleeves you at the end of the day and where's it where this leaves me at the end of the day I was exposed to the same situation you were we both got laid off from our jobs you crashed out our calm down We both felt We both are paying well I've heard that gas prices are I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I paid six dollars for these sold the other day. Okay, great I know you don't understand. Okay. I don't know I don't know that life and I'm empathetic to it because we still have a gas vehicle in a car two of them Okay, we're at the pump with next to you, but you're crashing on them coming out It is what it it is there is a there is a different way peacemakers navigate the world Every they're not on edge Everything is not a thing. Yeah It's just a part of what's going on in This season it's curved of life. I love that you connect to the second question Adam gets asked who told you and it's I mean, I just Who told you you have to match match crash out with crash out now now now now I I just got to say I you and I are both like this We we teach and preach from burdens we write from burdens and From places of experience That there's no theory right to what you preach It's been what we've had to work out Preston I come from a subculture Where we can meet a crash out did you just crash out? Mm-hmm We about to ride Right we throwing hands we throwing bottles we throwing bats We throwing cats like we however you want to get down with this there's levels to this you tell me what you love And you want to play on me and homies or roll up. I'll match you I came from that And now I'm like you got it, boss You think I'm a false teacher? Hey My man you think I'm a deconstructionist hey My man you think my content is irreverent irreverent I agree it absolutely is I will be irreverent but all the things that don't matter
and still hold reverentially all the stuff that does matter. So I can agree with you on the irreverent stuff, depending on what you're talking about. - But I'm not gonna crash out, I'm not gonna lose my peace. - Been tempted to, but I would have to trade a regulated nervous system to get mad at you. I don't even know you. - To many people who crash out have become convinced the only way they can get peace is steel yours. (screams) - Just as you're talking, I mean, the felt that's came into my head. This is one of the lies. This is why the yelling and the screaming, if I can get the calm one to scream. Maybe their peace will become mine. And worst case scenario, at least I've stolen theirs. - So can I tell you, there's two faces when you say this that almost dance vividly before my eyes. One is Malcolm X and the other is Martin Luther King Jr. I cannot imagine during the dispensation of time that they lived in, the amount of anger hurt and pain that they carried. But you could never hear it in their public interviews and in their public teachings. Because it would play into the hands of the people that were trying to take, or at that point, keep in place in justices that didn't even allow them to be. I'm not saying that Malcolm, Martin, both one or the other was carrying the peace of God that passed it all into standing, but the restraint you gotta have to be angry and frustrated and still appear poised, calm and controlled. If they did it without the peace of God, wow. Imagine what it would look like with the peace of God. - Right, you know what I'm saying? Like there is a, that's my life. Outside of being vulnerable, I wanna be the most peaceful man on earth. Not a peacekeeper. Well, I've seen you say some disruptive things or do some disruptive, yes, I'm a peacemaker. I will disrupt, I will disturb the peace you think you have for the peace that I want you to really have. I'll disturb that. But that is a, sometimes the P I E C E needs to be disturbed in order for the P E A C E. To be implemented. And that's what I'm very passionate about. Okay, Paul, please get to it. - Well, I think one of the practical pictures like Peter, but even in some ways on steroids, because it wasn't just having to go to Rome, having to stand before magistrates, it's a literal storm where the angel comes and says, "Hey, you're going to Rome." - Yeah. - Uh-huh. - The ship you're gonna go on is going to be lost. - Yeah. - It's going to crash and nothing will be saved. - Yep. - But no one will die. - Yep. - This, this, I remember the first time I preached it several decades ago. There is a measure of peace that Paul travels in and with. That I actually think this is a prototype to me for our day. - It is. - This is, you've been hearing me say it. They've been hearing me say it. Trying to, I'm not trying to start some theological or eschatological fight. But just trying to get people, the question I'm asking about rapture theology, which I grew up believing. It was all I was taught for the first 20 years of my life 'til I went to a Baptist university. I realized the reason in those days I chose to believe rapture theology was because I was afraid of the alternative. And as I have gotten older, the burden I feel, which I believe comes from Jesus saying things, like in this life you're going to have trouble. The peace is not the absence of trouble. - No, it's not. But far from it. - That's what we convince ourselves of. But that's why I love the end of Acts where Paul things get widely for him to me. - Very much so. - And he stays like this. - When everyone is sweeping, he is totally regulated. And I think this is a prophetic picture of what the people of God must look like in the midst of the storm that sinks a ton of ships. This is the goal. - I agree. So what proceeds that storm, I think that whole season for Paul is a prophetic word from a dude named Agabus. And you gotta have peace to receive a word like this. Now I know we all want some prophetic words, right? We would have Lord speak to me. And they better have edification. - Right. - He cursed me. - Agabus didn't bring encouragement or come. - That belt was not communicating. - Right. - Exordation. - So this is Acts 21. And starting at verse number 10, while we stayed there for a number of days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. He came to us, took Paul's belt, tied his hands, tied his own hands and feet, and said, the Rurak Akadesh says this, "In this way show the Jewish people in Jerusalem, bind the man who owns this belt and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles." What a prophetic word. You yanked the homies belt. Bind yourself and then say the dude that goes to Jerusalem will be bound by the people in Jerusalem. Verse number 12, "When we heard these things, both we and the local people urged Paul not to go up to Jerusalem." 13, then Paul responded, "What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? "For I am ready not only to be bound, "but to die for the name of the Lord Yeshua." Since he would not be persuaded, we fell silent, saying only, may the Lord's will be done. After these days, we packed and started going up to Jerusalem. Some of the disciples from Cessaria also went with us bringing us to Nason of Cyprus, one of the early disciples by whom we might be hosted. You can only do this if you're regulated. Yeah. Preston, once you read John 1427, and you see the piece that, "When Messiah says, "Shalom, I'm giving to you." Mm-hmm. "Shalom, I am leaving, I am leaving Shalom "with you in perpetuity." You cannot read the rest of the New Testament without seeing, oh, that dude's regulated there. That dude had a regulated nervous system. You can't have a conversation with Festus, locked up, and still try to make him come to Jesus. You've almost convinced me to become a believer. I wish you and everybody else in here would become, without how come he's not help, lawyer? Somebody raised an offer and put some money on my bus, give me out, peace. This kind of peace, if you fast forward to 27, chapter 27. In the middle of the storm, and this is not just any storm, it was a nor Easter. This was a legendary. Can I just give it the name that is in King James, because it's the most, it sounds like an opponent of Godzilla, "Your Rockladon." Dude, it's one of my favorite words in the New Testament in King James. That's a solid KJ. Your Rockladon sounds ominous, dog. Yes, it does. Nor Easter comes it down. You're like, okay, it's going over Boston. Your Rockladon sounds like Godzilla's worst opponent. Verse 18, "The next day as Gail Force wins, continue to batter the ship. The crew began throwing cargo overboard." (laughs) The following day, they even took some of the ship's gear and threw it overboard. The terrible storm raged for many days. Can you just stop right there? Disregard.
regulation will have you tossing over everything. - 100%? 100%, convincing you it's the only way to save anything. Did you everything in an attempt to save something? The following day, they even took some of the ships through it overboard. The terrible storm reached for many days, blotting out the sun and the stars until at last, dysregulation that I'm reading this in obviously, caused everyone to give up all hope. All hope was gone. Verse 21, no one had eaten for a long time. Hunger strike. Maybe that will help. Finally, Paul called the crew together and said, completely regulated, because they lead a little bit of sarcasm in his first sign. They are on a hunger strike. They have chucked the stinking steering wheel over the board. Man, you should've listened to me in the first place. (laughing) - Regulation. - Regulation. - You gotta be regulated. - You should've never left Cree. - That's right, I told you so. He does that, told you so then. - Yep. - You would've avoided all this damage and loss. But take courage. This is how peace. - A bro. - Peace. - Internal peace that passes all understanding right here. - But take courage. None of you will lose your lives. And this is how regulation talks. In reality, even though the ship will go down. (laughing) - Regulation is not unrealistic. Are you ready? - Say it. - You gonna lose some stuff, but you're not gonna lose you. - Call 'em as a cucumber. - You gonna lose some stuff, but you won't lose yourself. - To me, in the middle of a legendary storm, it wasn't like the waves calmed down long enough for him to save us. He said this. In the middle of your rock ladon. So, okay, all right. So I want you to say it again, but I'm about to give you, all right, especially for those that just only do an audio. I'm about to be sound effects right here. Now, read what Paul says again. - Paul coming through together. - Paul and Seth. - Ah, man. - You're gonna listen to me in the first place. - You're not that pretty, Paul. - You've avoided all this damage and loss. But save the top to curse. - None of you. - Lord, who's your life? Even though the ship will go down. - That's kind of what it probably a little bit sounded like. Peace from the prince, capital P. Doesn't need everything else to calm down before you calm down. He says it while all this chushin. Water sent them in the face. They don't have food 'cause they chucked it overboard. - This is exactly right. - They thought it would save their lives. - Yep. - Disregulation has been making their moves. - Yes, absolutely correct. And in the midst of it. The only thing, the only storm raging more than the one around them was the one in them. Preston, don't play with me. - Was the storm raging in all the rest of them. But Paul refused to let it in. - I'm not joining you. I'm not joining you. I'm not joining you. I'm not joining you. - Rabbi is my Messiah. And I will make the external match my internal before you make my internal match your external. I'm not joining you. I'm not joining you. I know it's not alive. I'm used to doing lives. I need to see at least 100. I'm not joining you in the chat. By the end of this podcast, I need to have at least 100 comments in the comments section that say, I'm not joining you. You will not have my, you cannot have it. You cannot have it. I work too hard to get it. - Your path to peace is not to steal mine. - No, you're not taking mine. - As your friend, one of the best things I can do, while you lose your peace is to keep mine. Absolutely correct. - I will put my oxygen mask on first. - Exactly right. - And I will not run around this airplane with no oxygen just because you are. I will sit in 27D. - That's right, with my mask, all my face. - Yeah, I'm not joining you. I'm not doing it. - This plane might crash. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - But I will now die. - I have had, obviously it lasts long enough for me to know what else I might have started thinking. But we fly so much. I've been in a couple of flights. I got 1.3 million miles with American now. There's been a few flights that had some turbulence that made the flight attendance turn a different pigmentation. And I look at them, if they cool, I'm cool. Right? I've been on a couple of flights where they was like, what the, and I'm like, okay. And then in that moment, I'm like, if it is the end, I'm good. Let me see who else wanna come to heaven with me. I don't know how much time I'm gonna, I ain't gonna be looking out the window, but I'm gonna ask the person next to me, eight, and Jesus, your Lord, and savior. 'Cause you can meet him today. 'Cause I think we're gonna meet him today anyway. I think all of us might be meeting. But you can be on the other side of judgment if you just confess, it's so easy. I have a overwhelming peace, even when I get in the plane that I have no control over when it dies and the mortality rate is very, very high in airplanes because of the nature of what they do. I'ma be out. There is a peace. I almost died on the streets. I had people that literally had hits out on this. A gun in my head now is just, you bought the send me home to have a family reunion with my dad? I have peace. I don't wanna feel pain like nobody else. I'm not hunting for any a testimony. And I have resolved for him I live and for him I will die. Like this is my life and it's peaceful. It is not chaotic. It is not gritted teeth. I'm not in a war. There's war for all around us. Okay. I'm going to be it. Wein and Lions, Dean. They about to be a pillow. You about to get thrown into a fiery furnace. Okay. Name your configuration. Walking with the Prince, it is entirely possible. And highly preferable. That even when I am in war, it doesn't mean I have to sleep with war. I can fall asleep just like Jesus. And do with an end. Peace. Amen. Preston last year I lost 70% of my income. And that's a huge financial adjustment. My conclusion at the end of the year is that mana is delicious. And nutritious. Like you think about how we talk about garlic, garlic, sweet and onions, mana, and then milk and honey. And mana is meant to be garlic, sweet and onions, that's your past and the sinful. And we make mana sound like nasty provision. It was like a little wafer cake with a drop of honey on it. Like he gave you something to snack on until the milk and honey came until the promised land came. I didn't lose a wink of sleep last year. Operating off 30% of the income that I would normally make. That wasn't because I'm financially savvy and I have so much savings built up and all that kind of stuff. And our bank accounts got down to double digits. Like not even three digits. Like $56.23. And I went to bed like it was $56,000. $2,300. I'm serious. This is not a revisionist history. Julie, I can tell you Nathan and Noah can tell you. They barely felt it. That's how you know they boozey. But I had overwhelming sense of peace. That it was just like Lord, you number my days. And if I have to sell this house in downsize, the Lord give it to the Lord, take it the way the blessed be the name of the Lord. This is the first world problem. What are we talking about? Other people lose their jobs and go through their savings and got to make other moves. I think I'm exempt to this. Like when you have
- Yeah, if you stop looking at, I wasn't thinking to myself. - The Lord's not with me. I've done something terrible. That he's punishing me and that's why I've lost all my money. - It was just 20, 25. And the same God that brought me through '05, brought me through 20, 25. 'Cause he's still God. And when there's a piece that has settled within you on that, none of this other stuff matters. It ain't gonna be here long enough to matter. The government's on his shoulders. Think I care about this government? Think I care about that president? I ain't care about none of them. Whoever I voted for did win, did not win. I have a king, I ain't got no president. And there is no vote on his office. (laughs) - No one shall remove him from us. He will not be removed. And his government shall reign for a thousand years. Like, what are we talking about? I just want people to reset and put their mind back on the main thing. Don't let the enemy have your peace. - Yesterday I went to the dermatologist and some maybe wondering what I have in my face. I have to go, I have a lot of moles. I have to go to the dermat twice a year and six months ago she had frozen off some stuff in my face. And she's frozen other stuff. I guess today she froze off eight or nine things in my face. - We're really twins, because I do the same thing. - Yeah. - But I get my burned. I don't get them froze. They burned mine. - Will it torch? - Some little poker rod thingy? - That's like a freezer, that burns. Oh, it's a freeze, they freeze them. - Oh, okay, I thought I was getting burnt. - It feels like it. (laughing) Well, if it feels like it is it. - Well, they were too, that she froze and they grew back. And I could tell she was, she was not, not pleased with what she saw. And I've had other things cut out on my chest and she starts describing the surgery and something I'm, she's making a sound like she already knows. It's cancerous. And it's the first time she's ever asked me to go get a blood test. Which would typically not be a great sign. - Right. - You know, she's already making certain assumptions. And at the very least wants to - To throw that off the list. - Yeah, for sure. - You know. And I had this thought when I picked you up this morning. This felt like the words had pressed in. Did you think that you and your tent, this physical body would live a long life and never get nicked up? And it's, the enemy loves to, even if it is. And she's talking me through if it's cancerous, they're gonna have to cut things off my face. - Yeah. - My goal isn't to finish my race. Beautiful. - Don't do this to me. - My goal is to finish my race. - You talk like that, bro. - Beautifully. And talking good, sir. - It is calibration to go. I just, I preached it 20 years ago. And it hit me then and it still hits me today. That, that Paul had something at work within him. That was so much stronger than Eurocladon. That in the midst of Eurocladon. While the ship is getting nicked and about to be destroyed. He's still saying, "But take heart." While he's having a belt put around his limbs. Everyone else is weeping and he's going, "I'm ready." Even if. And no one can convince me otherwise. Impressed in this is not boldness speaking. - Yeah. - This isn't courage speaking. - Yeah. - This is not, and we've misdiagnosed it. - It's like faith. - It's not speaking. - This is not faith speaking. He didn't leave us faith. The gift he left us wasn't faith. By faith, we have this relationship with him. That's an option we get to opt in on. We get to choose to believe, but he left us with peace. Now that you believe, here's my gift to you. You ain't got to be bothered. I didn't say you wouldn't go through something. What I'm saying is you ain't got to be bothered by it. In this life, you will suffer persecution. You ain't got to be bothered by it. - And the body of Christ has become convinced that we can't always keep our peace. And this is part of the problem. If it's your peace. - That's exactly right. If it's your peace, you're gonna lose it. - You're gonna lose it. - But when it's his. - That's right. - Nothing can take it. - Absolutely. - No matter what. It is not contingent on any external circumstance, atmosphere, environment, individual, has nothing to do with it. - I can't wait to slow roll my way through this book. (laughing) Because I've gotten to slow roll my way through the life for nearly two decades of the one God asked to write it. And I'm so proud of you for putting in the work. This one was a lot of work. - It was. - It wasn't just sitting down to write. There was a ton of research to the extent that there was even a rewrite. - That's right. - To really be able to set it on the table of one's heart. - That's right. - Who has become convinced that this regulation will always be there normal. - Who won't? - It doesn't have to be. - It does not have to be. - We just pray over us. - Yeah, absolutely. - As we wrap this up. - Lord Jesus, thank you so much for my brothers and sisters for your sons and daughters. I pray right now for those fighting anxiety, those fighting fear, those fighting, almost crippling doubt. I pray, Lord God, that the peace of God that passes all understanding would literally guard their hearts in mind through Christ Jesus. - I thank you, Lord God, that you were extravagant enough to give us a peace. That's not a thing. You gave us a peace that is a person. - Thank you. - And that person is your precious Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit, I pray that you can be tangibly felt. All the way down to our nervous system, as our governor and anchor of our souls. God, I pray that this conversation keep us in perfect peace in Jesus' name. Amen, amen. - We'll be looking out in a couple of weeks. - Sing it in my, oh. - Sing it in my, oh. - May fifths can be reordered right now. - Yep, absolutely. - Several weeks before the book comes out and our next episode will be the week that it comes out. And then you will be in a conversation when we talk about the how. This is the what and the why. And next, we're gonna talk about how, how do I live this life. - Absolutely. - I love you so much. We love you so much. It's always a privilege for us to get to sit down together. - You're praying for you. - Don't trade your peace for anything. He's giving it to you. - Don't give it up. Love you so much. We'll see you next time.
