In this podcast episode, the hosts explore the theme of failure, especially in college, arguing that it is a universal and valuable experience. They define failure as not meeting one’s own expectations, particularly in academics, and suggest it serves as a wake-up call that fosters growth and improved work ethic. Personal stories are shared, such as failing a religion exam due to poor preparation and disinterest, which later motivated the student to earn an A-minus in the course. Another example involves a difficult economics midterm that, despite low scores, spurred better study habits and ultimate success. The discussion acknowledges that no one succeeds at everything in college, covering social, physical, and emotional challenges, but focuses on academic setbacks as teachable moments. The hosts also briefly digress into topics like video game comparisons and memory retention before circling back to reinforce that failure is a powerful teacher in preparing for real-world obstacles.
Hello, and welcome back to the College Made Easy podcast today. We've got Ben and Scott with me Emily might show up. We'll see Well, we're gonna be talking about failure today Should be failure to appear on a podcast at Emily at Emily Thanks Everyone should learn to love failure. We have a hot take on this so Without further ado, Scott has questioned the day and by the end of the podcast you'll love to fail. Yeah, it's not just a hot take on failure. It's a spicy take Very spicy. Okay, so Question of the day and leave a comment down below what you think your favorite In terms of these two games. What is better? Call of duty or minecraft? Oh Minecraft I knew you're gonna say that Minecraft is so superior by far I Have a very simple game that can be as complex as you want it to be Is that be okay? So would you say it's like? Better objectively because they've only released one Minecraft game and they have to keep pumping out Call of duties every year No, I feel like they're what when you I don't know how to compare that exactly I feel like call of duty Could have just added more and more maps to the same game over the years But like one of the big advantages that minecraft has over called duty is There's when minecraft came out there were an infinite number of available maps Versus when call of duty comes out. They have to buy hand design every single map So before that we started the podcast I suggested a Call of duty versus battlefront and Scott was like, can you even compare those two? Can you even compare call of duty and migrate? No, you can't and I took it a step further and you Completely different games I would do like minecraft more, but like I also like call of duty for totally different reasons I would argue though that call of duty and battlefront were in like an awkward space where it's really unnatural to compare Versus like call of duty and minecraft are very different call of duty and like something like battlefield might be Comparable mm-hmm, but something like battlefront exists in like that weird space where there's plenty of similarities But they're also quite different versus I Know I think Because that's like how would you rather spend your time would you rather spend your time watching TV or playing video games? Yeah, you'll probably do a combination of both but generally which do you pick? right And I think the fact that battlefront is a Star Wars Video game like it came out of the movie so if like you love the movies you'll probably like play in the game like that kind of thing so I can't imagine there's a lot of battlefront fans who can't stand the movies Or who think the movies are really boring. That's fair So anyway speaking of Star Wars and failure the sequels We did of worry failures no need to discuss our fun fact before we talk about failure Our first podcast that we ever did I think it was me and Tim we talked about Ryan Johnson as a director and The sequel there's last Jedi, right? That was our first podcast Yeah throw back season We just had we just had things on our chest that we really had to get get out there And movie hurt that was an emotional episode I think my favorite Like joke post kind of thing I don't know me That I've seen in a while was like a little news blip that John Favreau was like critically injured Like he lays back was like destroyed in multiple places from pulling Star Wars out of a gigantic hole made by Disney Did you guys hear the rumors George Lucas might come back as interim CEO of Lucasfilm or interim president? I did not there's only plans for interim. They have no intent of keeping him on But I don't think it'll happen He sold because Like writing a trilogy is like 10 years of work and he wanted to raise his daughter I don't think he's gonna come back But the trilogy is the trilogy is done so he doesn't have to worry about that and His daughter was like months away from being born versus now she's like six so He's not changing diapers and like up at midnight anymore like now it's Like I mean obviously with a six-year-old he still threw a lot, but yeah, I forget if she's six or seven She's more independent Okay, uh in terms of failure in college Before we talk about these major points just keep in mind that no one it's impossible to go through college And succeed at everything a hundred percent even outside of grades like social life and stuff There is never going to be a perfect individual so everyone can relate to this basically is what I'm saying Um, so how would you guys define what failure is? Finding a way that doesn't work at Thomas Edison Uh failure is an opportunity For growth for growth yet, uh, so Building off what Ben said I think uh It I don't know. I don't want it to find failure somebody else do it It depends on the failure honestly like if you fail a test And it's like well that sucked and you know that you need to work harder But if you fail a class then you like That really sucks you gotta do the whole thing again and work hard at the second time, but if you like Fail as an entrepreneur and like your business fails that's I've never experienced that So I don't know how to define that it depends on what your family that I think right I think in terms of simplicity for this episode let's strictly talk about failure in the context of grades and classes Um that would make sense We could do a whole another episode and other types of failure, but just to keep it um concise To me failure is having a Expectation and then the outcome is below that expectation in some way And so you didn't live up to your expectation or your goal and therefore Your mind somehow processes that it was a failure in some way Even though it may not have been to other people So it all depends about perspective Yeah, if your goals are to have either A's or A minuses and You get a B or especially a C They're plenty of student so we consider that a success, but you might consider that a failure right Honestly, I uh I guess you could you probably should take this with a grain of salt considering I do get pretty good grades But it's like success and failure for me isn't if I get an A or not or a beer not it's if I actually learn something in the class um So even if I can think of plenty of classes where I've gotten good-ish grades and I just don't remember anything from the class and like usually that's a class that's like like uh Like European history from like 15 to 1700s like of course, I'm gonna forget that and I'm not gonna remember that forever but like Classes in my major like mathematical statistics um if I don't learn anything in that class, but I get a good grade I still failed no matter what Uh, Ben, I don't know. I find I find most of the classes where you really do learn Those are the classes you get A's it's rare that You're in a class with a professor that grades aggressively, but you didn't learn You know what I'm saying like I find a lot of those classes where you get the lower grades are the classes where You didn't learn all my lowest grades are core classes where you don't learn right Yeah, where the professor usually if it's a lower grade the professor seemed to just as out of the material as I was if not even more Honestly, I would uh Old to clarify I remember the class well at the end of the class, but like over time. I'll lose it And I I guess what I mean by learn it is I mean uh How long I retain the information after the semester is over Mm-hmm Ben you keep like reminding me I just finished reading my memory book on how to like improve your memory and in the last chapter It gave a stat about if you take a class and then like two years out You retain roughly 18% of the information if you don't two years later Yeah, two years later. You know 18% of that information you learned if you don't practice if you do practice You can retain a lot more like close to 70 I think most of the classes I've taken I've honestly retained pretty well because I love history and I spend so much time like even just on youtube essentially freshening up on history so when you really like think about the cores Um, that you have to take the math classes have all been relevant to my majors so I've continued using them The economics classes are my majors so I've continued using them and then the cores that don't really fit into either those categories are very historical. I mean even like if you think about an English class you read books Out and like the historical context behind the book is so much of what the class might talk about So I think I've been lucky where very few classes. I guess science has fallen through the most over the long run Have you even taken that many sciences at hours cool? I took so close there I took astronomy which again, I think stuck with me pretty well because for one I knew a lot of it because I like astronomy but it was almost it was like What it not astrology what do they call like the study of the stars like their locations No, but like the stars locations like cosmology I think oh yeah Yeah, it was it was basically cosmology like knowing like where they are the phases of the moon all that stuff I actually have retained that really well only If I's Depending on the time of the day that the moon is out. I know whether it's waxing or waning those kinds of odd things but Like I haven't really had that many classes that have completely gone even the Romans classes I took I took two Roman history classes freshman year That I just thought were so interesting and I would have credit a lot of it to YouTube the fact that At least twice a month I happen, you know the next video that's recommended by YouTube is some Roman figure Their life story probably 10 20 minutes long That's helped me maintain retain like all that information from freshman year very well So again, I don't really I'm trying to think of classes. I've completely forgotten Him is really good at going off on tangents I'm sitting here like I don't relate it. I'm like, how is this going full circle related to failure I think he's trying to disprove what I said Or at least disagree I'm not like intentionally, but as far as There's no classes for me that are completely gone Oh, I think that's what he was trying to say like if you completely forget the information then it was a failure right? I mean it's got I'm already at 18% for some of these classes Well, I don't even know if it's a failure. I mean, there's plenty of people who really Scott like thinking like economists who Really, they don't want to retain their Roman history class from freshman year. They could care so much less Yeah, if you guys read the first Sherlock Holmes book by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Um A study in Scarlett. That's the first one Sherlock Holmes Doesn't remember anything that's unimportant That's incredible. Yeah, so like at one point in the book John Watson his housemate flatmate excuse me. They're British Uh brings up the fact that the Sun's the center of the universe and uh like the cup the Copernican Solar System and Sherlock Holmes is like really? And like that's been known for like centuries by the time the Book took place since fiction and we'll have someone's like how do you not know this and she likes like uh It's not gonna help me in life, so I don't care But like that does almost connect back to I really believe there's no useless information I have been in terrible classes before I mean learning as a junior in college how to use Google docs that was very useless But only because I already knew how to use Google docs Um There's no useless information out there I think there is useless information out there It always manages to connect to something you you're always shocked some day when you use it Tim I don't think I'm ever gonna use the date that Nero was born Oh, it's on jeopardy now I'm never gonna be on jeopardy Rest you can quote me on my words if you're watching this You're just hanging out with people watching jeopardy If I'm watching jeopardy and it says the year of Nero's birth I'd be like huh, I don't know Again, let's bring it back to to failing are we reading this episode for getting stuff? I know We're failing at staying on task Yeah I don't even know what that second bullet point made I had to read it for a sec. I know it. I know it Emily wrote this script ladies and gentlemen. Let's give her credit Yeah, then she's not here. So no, is she anything? Nope, no, she has not so basically what Emily tried to say here and I'm gonna paraphrase is that failing in college sets you up and experiencing that failing in college sets you up for real life when you're probably going to experience way more failures Because you're not in an isolated bubble in college like college um Which I I agree with um Realistically what what can you fail at when you're in college? Few things come to mind You can fail at your grades. You can fail at a social life Which honestly that can lead to depression and mental health issues which we're gonna do an episode on that right in the future We have it. Yeah listed. Yes. Yeah um You can fail physically if you get on a really like bad eating diet um What else can you fail at physical, mental, social, emotional, uh educational Related I think I think what was that relational even like socially yes, but like in a relationship Right But like those failures in college they're not that extreme for the most part like there's nothing that's like gonna absolutely crush you Like for me like I lost like a pretty good friend sophomore year Um, and yeah it hurt at first, but it wasn't like the end of my life uh But I guess I guess we're just gonna focus on grades and on on this episode. Uh, yeah, so To clarify uh You're you stopped being friends unfortunately. Yeah Yeah, it almost sounded like he passed away. I don't know. No, no, no, no, no for the audience Was this not the breakup from your new year that you were thinking of it is a sophomore year Yes, okay. Got you. I'm glad to clarify that too uh So I mean it's all about how you deal with it right everyone's gonna experience that failure sometime in in college It can't be perfect um, so I guess we can go into just some funny stories that we have on failing in college uh, I guess specifically with grades I have a good one Go for it Yeah, so I had to take religion sophomore year and like we all know like I'm I'm I'm more like spiritually religious. I don't follow like institutional religion very well And but this this class wasn't even about Christianity. This was like Buddhism Islam Hinduism and My missing do I say Judaism He didn't do now, huh? It was four of them, but like I know and as as you guys said early It's like I and no interest in this class. Obviously. I'm gonna forget like probably 99.9 percent of the information I learned of that and the teacher was really bad as well And the first exam comes around and I'm like I tried to take good notes like I really tried I have the time. I couldn't even understand when she was saying Uh, and she yelled at you if you'd if you asked her to repeat herself because she is such a thick accent It's like the whole thing was awful. I was in a class of complete strangers I was a sophomore and it was mostly freshmen in the class And first exam comes around and I was like I was like actually studying for this But it was it was one of these exams. It was a memorization vocab exam So you had to and you have all these religious terms and you have to know What everyone means and it's like this huge list to go over and I was sitting there studying my flashcards over and over again Trying to memorize these and then I get to the exam And like I remember a decent amount of the vocab words But I started to forget a lot of them on like during the exam like oh my god like this is so bad So I go through the multiple choice section and I was like okay I probably got like maybe 60% of those right I get to the short answer where it gives you a term It gives you seven there's seven terms religious words and it's and the instructions say right three to five sentences About each term And you know I kid you not And remember like these are religious terms are often in like different languages and stuff So I have no idea what these mean. You can't like use context clues or anything And so I legit knew one out of seven of the words So I had to sit there. I did the one that I knew which one was it I can't remember two man 18% it was probably related to Buddhism. I probably knew that religion the most. I have a full path Yeah I do remember that in Buddhism like they believe in Like after you die you come back reincarnation yeah reincarnation you can come back as like an animal and they rank them all like a god Like a human and animal and stuff like that that's besides the point I knew so for the remaining six I just sit there and just BS every single one of them and try to make up what they were And I ended up failing the exam However, there's light at the end of the tunnel I did I got an 85 on the next exam which for religion and that and for me I was like all that's so good And then I did extra credit and I ended up getting in a minus in that class I went from failing to an a minus Let's go scat So you failed a test and you realized that you needed to work harder Yeah Honestly, I think failures simply the most useful wake up call Do you think it's a catalyst for motivation? Yeah and work ethic Um Someone has to mention Yoda in this episode. I'm sorry You fail or do not there is no try I guess Yoda to okay, you can't do a good Yoda quote because Yoda doesn't make it clear When you says failures the greatest teacher in Empire strikes back I thought okay, you're right, but um I was thinking of the scene Luke says right after Yoda lifts the the x-wing. I don't believe it And Yoda said that is why you fail Oh, that's a self doubt. That's a self doubt. Yeah. We know I have a great quote for that And I just like those those two lines together. I think they're the best two Those are really good. I read this quote the other day Play driving it right here It was like self-doubt kills more dreams than failure does and I was like Just like geez. That was good What was your source set your source? Uh, I have no idea, but I found it on Google images Huh So Google images. Yeah, they publish imagine if Google was like a source if you could say Google Be great research papers Google Um, I guess a good catalyst for like studying more for me was uh What my midterm and intermediate macro? Oh, when I got that when I got that back and saw like how low the grade was I studied for that about as hard as I had studied for Uh intro micro macro and intermediate micro And then when uh when I got it back uh It was uh, I think it was it was in the sixties post curve So totally not what I'm looking to get But the entire most of the class failed the test which I think is always a good feeling like when you fail it If you can at least say okay, I wasn't the only one Mm-hmm And this is one of those tests that that is designed to be very difficult But looking back having gotten that grade the professor gave us all the opportunity to replace the midterm grade with our final grade so I think it depends on the person. There's some people who don't want to deal with that stress but It was really motivating to Learn everything by the final exam It's to try to turn that class grade around and I was able to I got nay in the class But that helped create the work ethic that stuck with me throughout many of my upper level economics courses And I remember I had to take that exam too and Tim helped me study with study for it I'm not going to go into any further details about it But I remember going in thinking okay if this is as hard as everyone says I have to lower my expectations for What I'm gonna get on this, right? Like I was walking in there and thinking okay If I get like a 75 I'll be happy because because I knew that this teacher Used your final grade or switch to your midterm with your final if your final is better. So I was like This exam doesn't even really count from the last part Yeah Then there's a bunch of other times I got low grades and I went and spoke to professors the worst one All right, this this I didn't fail but I just want to share it as an aside We had to make a decision tree diagram for a management class once Decision trees are basically like if you make this choice you get $50 if you make this choice you lose $20 and like They just span out and it's much more complicated But I included the choice do nothing Which wasn't on the professor's answer key And it turned out doing nothing which would have a payoff of zero right Um It didn't affect anything because there was a positive payoff But he took off points Because I included the choice do nothing which I still believe is a relevant choice So I went in I liked spoke to him about it And he goes yeah, you're right, but I can't give you back the points I was like why he was like I'd have to change everyone's grade He would have to take points away from everybody else who didn't include do nothing And I was like excuse me He was like yeah, this is one of the problems with academia in the real world You might have gotten a raise but like I can't do anything I was like excuse what That's insane. I still wish That I had fought harder with that that professor because that class the grade I got in it is the difference like On graduation day if I keep up my grades Will be the difference of like an entire 10 If that makes sense wow I'm gonna end up Yeah, my GPA is gonna be I mean, I don't want to give it away on the podcast, but like That this isn't it, but like it's gonna be at a 3.95 instead of a 3.0 It's gonna be 3.85 instead of a instead of a instead of a 3.5 This isn't it, but instead of a 3.5, I'll end up with a 3.49 Oh, yeah, that's a hundredth 10 another 10 Yeah, but like it it changes the way that the 10th looks which which is a big deal because there are certain distinctions Graduation that have to do with the 10th cutoff That that's why it's a big deal that that hundredth of a difference that it causes Will make a difference that way if I just like Made a bigger fuss with that guy. He's just gonna be cum laude. He's not gonna be summa cum laude Yeah, it's that kind of a thing we even do that Yeah, we do all that there's uh, oh, we do tears. Yeah, I believe there's five tears. I thought it was wait What's I assume I might be three? I thought it was summa than magna than just cum laude Okay, maybe it's three But also might be magnets cum laude and then summa cum laude and then just cum laude I don't know the order of magnets umma But then the college also has specific ones that they do on top of that so you get those ones plus other There's a lot I think Not deans listen presidents less whatever I don't know my commencement tassels I had a class it was actually the semester at the end of the semester so I know this may come as a shock to a lot of people it definitely came as a shock to Tim. I At the time of this class was a first semester senior-year college student and I had never done a research paper before I've never had to like cite sources in text Like profess not like professionally, but like an actual research paper like I've had to do English essays where I was like right in this prompt Find me the resources and I was like okay, whatever google But this was like you need like google scholar or like go to a library and do research and I've never done before so and Since it was it's normally expected of you As a first semester senior to know that that's what professor wants the professor did not strictly say that So I did not know I strictly had to do that So I handed in a research paper with no sources No, it's exactations He's he gives me zero he gives me zero then he emails me on the day that it would the day after that it was due I handed it in on time and emails me next he goes yeah, please see my comment and let me know what you want to do He gave me four more days to redo the research paper with citations. Wait, so he he literally he just gave you a flat out zero Yeah, and said let me know what you want to do. So his submission comment on canvas was uh You don't have any sources So an unit uh site in text so you can't so this is all plagiarism because I don't know what you got it from And I was like oh That makes sense And he said so you may be back if you want to like redo it you have until friday or you can just take the zero and like I did the math I could have just taken the zero. I wouldn't pass the class But yeah That's like uh in my accounting class. I had one assignment left It was an essay and I really didn't feel like doing it. It was on it was on ethics I did the math. I had an A and I would still have an A if I didn't write the essay on ethics You could have sat there and wrote it in 10 minutes and probably got like a 90 That's okay, okay, but I have an opportunity to ask for 10 minutes. I cannot do I cannot do garbage I have a character flaw. That's why it takes me three four five hours to do a core class I cannot do anything that is not of height and quality Just have a long island iced tea and then relax and then My best work was drinking long out that's And you're welcome for that. That was my idea I got a hundred on that assignment Now and then every anyway, you know what class I'm talking about Tim every assignment after that. I got shafted on Anyway, so I redid the research paper and even though I don't remember very much from this class And I know I'm never going to remember very much from this class So what I said earlier about learning things and remembering things and failing or not Since I knew I'm not like it wasn't this information. It was a history class. It was What it was a history class it the information I knew was not important to me and I'm not going to remember it Sherlock Holmes style so My definition of failure failure changed to getting a good grade And because it was just some crap class. I was like all right I don't want this stupid class and this stupid research paper to completely screw up my GPA Because since I transferred I all of my previous classes come in as T's and they aren't part of my GPA So like if I got to see One C out of two years worth of classes it affects my grade more than one C out of four years worth of classes Right, if I got all like B's and A's and stuff like that So I knew that I couldn't take the C so I actually redid the entire thing. I actually looked up sources and he gave me like a 95 on it, I think Actually, I want to check that. I don't remember Uno momentum for a boy So it's all about just like adjusting your expectations Yeah going from there So that's a good definition so wait no so Gary V says no, no, I don't think he said that I heard this quote from somewhere if you have zero expectations in life you'll never let be let down true, and I was like I was like wait, that's a great point But also at the same time like you should have some expectations It's like Do you ever hear about the computer that it was an AI they plugged it into I think it was Mario Kart But I don't remember for sure what the video game is that that's irrelevant They plugged it into Mario Kart and gave it like access to all the controls And they gave the AI the instructions do not do not lose the race And then it lost twice because they didn't teach it how to race All they did was plug it in and like it was able to click a and X or whatever Uh But then the third time it paused the game Damn And so it completed the task of do not lose the race just because it was paused So it this is why like your exact goals like mattered like yeah They didn't give the AI the instructions to win they gave it the instructions don't lose So I looked it up. I got a 92 on that research paper Also the final exam for that class was four essays And I also did the math and if I got a good enough grade on the research paper I could just not do one of the essays So I just didn't do one of the essays I got a 75 on the final So got the eight oh It's all about really just to be definition of the ethics essay Nothing beats that was the one essay I skipped that was great Probably shouldn't be telling people like yeah do the math skipping essay It's all about the grade But but here's where I'm going to like be an economist again If you have a limited time to study as you do throughout finals week If you realize there's a class that's not important to your major and You can Instead of writing an essay to vote a certain portion of time to studying And still get that grade that you were aiming for I don't think it's a terrible decision Yeah, I agree with you. It's similar to how John This is completely unrelated sort of related similar how John Wick fights in the movies He intentionally allows himself to get wounded like it stabbed Just so he can like do another move and like end up like killing the person I don't know if you noticed that you just watched John Wick yesterday No, no, I've seen a long time ago So it's like I watched all three John Wick movies in one day. I was like so over violence at the end of the day So just like seeing John Wick so just like take the hit or take the small hit On the class that's not important in order to save your grade in the class. That's actually important. Yeah It's like before covid happened The main reason I would skip a class Uh would be I had a different class to study for And I knew I had like a small set of skips to take advantage of and I've always stood behind it I think it's a really good use of skips just be careful don't use them all up too early in case you get sick but Like with covid I never knew because you can always just show up online but And then once I had the noise in the background and like the fear what if the professor does start just calling on random people You have to pay attention you can't focus really on your study, which is a shame I was about to say something I can forget what it was Scott, what did you say before Tim said something? I mean, Tim said that John Wick Uh, take the small failure so that you can get the big success you can avoid the big failure Yeah, I think I said this on a previous podcast like if I have to choose between two assignments that I do at the same time And one's a homework and one's a project. I'm doing the project right Yeah Yeah, I feel like going back to the whole like expectation versus reality sort of thing and why people Experience failure and just all about perspective. I feel like people You should set high standards for yourself, but just like not too high like to the point It's unattainable and then you're going to be let down regardless of what happens Yeah, you should aim high, but Expect to hit low Because honestly, I mean like I mean like if Emily was here, she talked about relationships, but it's like also like Being able to step that was a roast Being able to accept rejection And like because that's a failure. That's a that's a emotional relationship failure, right? Which also I feel like this roast is getting worse and worse Emily could talk about Relationships anyone being rich. No, I don't know if any of that was intentional by Scott That's even what you mean. That's not what I got no I think Emily just like would feel more comfortable talking about relationships. Yeah, also learned up All you guys out there small tangent if you change the goal from getting a yes To just asking you'll get more yeses Like if you stress out so much about asking this one person and hoping that they say yes Probably going to say no, but if you just make the goal going up like if Tim and I had a Had a bet who could get the most phone numbers One night Like just asking but goodwill on doing more successes. I don't know. I feel like that's advice for like some people, but it also like It sounds like it's bordering on fishing like it's uh like it's the tinder problem Yes, we're just we're just looking for matches and then Not a really good. Yeah, like it's a good confidence boost. Especially to start out if you're Looking for to date in that kind of way. Yeah. I see you're saying tangent So Emily fails what Okay, so like if you actually fail a class Like You actually like get like what's a what's a failing class normally? It's like usually either 60 or 65 Okay somewhere around it depends a lot Yeah, so what do you do if you actually fail a class? Well, you can go talk to your professor after and try to like ask for extra credit Um, if you never go to ask, he's not gonna give it to you Yeah, if you are failing, you have a ton of options if you have failed Your options are pretty limited. I mean, I will say like if you don't believe it was fed it was fair for you to fail Uh professors can change grades after they've been submitted most people don't realize that um But Yeah, definitely if you're aware that you're failing you have to deal with it while you're failing not once you have failed Mm-hmm So like Scott said asking for extra credit we did that this semester And and we got rejected But it's okay because we we were we knew we were gonna get rejected in the first place We already like we we trained our minds to be okay with the with the rejection Yep Uh And then like Scott said you could also retake the class if you have failed But I'd also be aware uh I mean, this is a this is a really last worst-case scenario But I would always take the wf Over the f And a lot of the time if you do Withdraw the t-tril just pass you that way you get the wp I don't have experience with that so I don't know I mean, I don't have experience with that either but I I know like If you tell the professor listen I'm failing and there isn't anything the professor can do Many professors will just give you the wp if you were close at all Withdraw pass that way your that way your transcript looks a little bit better than a wf But I would rather keep even if you're gonna get the wf I would rather keep the top line GPA strong And then have a wf buried in there followed up by perhaps a b when you retake the class Mm-hmm Then An f followed up by a b That would be worse So can we just agree on that it's okay to be failing a class, but it's it's probably not the best to actually like fully fail the course Yeah Failing is significantly better than failed Yeah, yes, it shouldn't get to the point where you failed Like that means you like you just don't go to class which honestly Like that's just laziness that has Honestly, it's pretty hard to fail a college course Like straight up good naff Like you I mean my my Cal3 class there were students who got like a six out of 60 Who got D's on the final? D's Cal3 is different on the blank Cal3 is different Cal3 is very different Anyway, but like in order to fail a class, you literally have to put in no effort Like absolutely none like I do also think I think it depends on the person though What do you mean? I think that three of us are generally good students and one of the things that we benefit from is being interested in the course material for majority of our classes But there's plenty of people the three of us are also good test takers um There's plenty of people out there who Aren't good test takers particularly like anxiety with tests um And on top of that might not be interested in the course material even for their major which I've said before I don't like that. I don't think that you made the right choice if you don't like your major But they're in those types of situations and they're even if they apply themselves They might have to apply themselves significantly for a C plus Cell I mean like you have to if you're that kind of person There's no getting around that yeah And if you're not willing to apply yourself I've been amazed at a lot of my friends who who didn't go to college who the salaries that they're making It's incredible This is just salaries I'm not even dreaming of Options College is not the only route and if you particularly if you are a freshman or sophomore and this is not for you I would take the risk You you know by Freshman or sophomore year. It's definitely junior year. I mean it's Scott not Scott would know some costs but It's definitely wrong of high school guidance counselors to be like you got to go to college You got to go to college like there's trade schools You could just graduate with your high school diploma. There's so many things that you can do you don't have to go to college We're just making it easier. I think if you're in the entrepreneurial mindset or you're not focused on making large amounts of income And I think not going to college is fine Hmm Colleges for risk of risk per people Except if you're gambling Oh, I love gambling So now we've degraded into gambling what about what about gambling failures Ambulance that more yeah, just bet more You're bound to win eventually Which is true ever heard the other thing if you gamble your car or something like that Have you ever heard of anybody who actually lost their car again? No, it doesn't happen. You always win If you bet that much you're guaranteed okay kids go grab your mom's credit card and go On some illegal gambling website who not do this Buy some Bitcoin You can't buy Bitcoin You can buy Did I share it's a Bitcoin? But you have to know those are Bitcoin those aren't shares those are bitcoins really Yeah, but you can mine bitcoins for free But you're not going to find a Bitcoin because there's computers the size of football fields in China currently mining bitcoins And they find like one every few days so with your laptop are not going to find a Bitcoin So do you need a diamond pickaxe to mine the Bitcoin Now you need another right one now. Yeah. Oh Here they're adding copper to minecraft anyway Yeah, okay, this is why minecraft is better than the company Okay, so Yeah, failure's okay. Just don't fill classes and if you are failing classes probably just drop out of college and choose another route If that works for you. I think that's the main just this episode and we don't mean that to be mean But like if you really are failing like most of your classes in college is just seriously not And you're not enjoying it. Yeah, and you know if you're not enjoying your major if you're not enjoying school If you're not enjoying anything of being at a school And your failing classes like college is definitely not for you. So like Find a different path in life. It's okay. Your parents might disagree your friends might disagree, but Success is what you define it That's a good quote end on okay, Tim you want to wrap up.
