HOW TO ADD MORE WHIMSY & JOY INTO YOUR DAYS | WAYS TO BE WHIMSICAL & NOT CARE WHAT PEOPLE THINK
49m 26s
In this podcast episode, host Fernando Mirez discusses how to incorporate whimsy into daily life, defining it as a mindset of playfulness, authenticity, and delight. She shares personal updates, including moving back to her parents' house, traveling to Brazil for Carnival, and hosting community events to foster real-world connections. Emphasizing that whimsy stems from inner childlike joy, she explains how societal pressures often suppress this trait and encourages listeners to reflect on their own experiences. By embracing bravery, adjusting self-perception, and allowing oneself to be "cringe" or vulnerable, individuals can reclaim whimsy. This not only enhances personal freedom but also creates a positive ripple effect, inspiring others to lower their guards and live more joyfully.
[BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] [MUSIC] Hello, you guys, and welcome or welcome back to another episode of A Better You. I am your host, Fernando Mirez, and we are in my car currently as I speak. For those listening to the podcast over audio, you would not tell a difference, but for those watching on YouTube, I'm filming this in my car right now. Did I go out of my way to get all of my podcast equipment in the car? I did. I've been driving around for a while trying to look for a quiet spot where I can film, and we finally found it. Before I give you guys the life update, thank you so much for clicking on this episode. I'm so happy that you are here. Today, we are going to be talking about how to add more whimsy into your life. I will talk about what whimsy even means, what it means to me, how I practice it, how to embody it, practical tips, and also ways that you can actually embody whimsy through your mentality, because that's really what it is. It's really a mindset, and it's not a trend. It's quite literally a lifestyle. So we have a lot that we're going to talk about in today's episode. I'm very excited, and if you haven't already subscribed, followed, giving it a thumbs up, make sure you do all those things. Also, I want to say, before we really, really get into it, I kind of want to give a little bit of a life update, because I haven't posted in a minute. I want to talk about what's happening, what's going on, and just like Valentine's Day, like I just kind of want to talk to you guys. As I'm filming this, it is, I don't even know what date is. I think it's February 10th. I actually go to Brazil tomorrow. I'm so excited. And I've been a little bit hectic. This past, like two weeks has been insane for me. I think I talked about it in one of the last episodes, but I actually moved on February 1st. And I'm telling you guys first, you guys are going to hear this before my main YouTube channel, because I guess you all really know me the best. Basically, what I was saying was that I didn't know what my next moves were going to be after moving out of my apartment, because I was debating staying in Vancouver or moving closer to my hometown. That's like 45 minutes away, or like 30 minutes away. Or I was debating like not getting another place and kind of being like a digital nomad, and just like, low-key living at home and traveling. And I ended up going to view like three different apartments. And I actually liked a lot of them, but oh my god. I forget that moving is like so much effort every single time. And it wasn't so painful. I did have movers, so they helped me pack everything up. But I didn't decide on a new place soon enough. So basically everything went straight into storage. And as for now, I'm just going to be living in my parents' house. So I'm still in my childhood bedroom. If you guys watched me on YouTube since 2020, I'm back in the bedroom. I'm actually not hating it at all though. Lowkey, I'm like, wait, this is so much better. My parents keep cooking and they're so great at cooking. And it's nice to be with like my family again and my cat. It just feels very wholesome and it feels very full circle. I feel like I'm in such a different position than I was the last time I lived at home. So honestly, it's just kind of sweet. I think it's kind of cute. I kind of like it. And again, the reason I think why I'm so okay with it is because I've got a lot of traveling going on. I've got this Brazil trip and then I'm going to Mexico next month, which is why I'm like, I don't really want to deal with the dilemma of getting a new place and unpacking and all that kind of stuff. So anyways, that's the first life update out of the way, the whole moving situation, the traveling situation. As for Brazil, I haven't talked so much about it or maybe I did, I don't know, but I am going with said man's, you guys know, I've been talking about it. I'm so excited to go together. I think it's going to be so much fun. And I'm still thinking in my head like how much I want to share because I'm enjoying keeping that distance. I'm enjoying keeping this connection private. But going on a trip like this, I obviously want to take a lot of content and I want to shoot content. So you never know, maybe we'll have a little bit of a soft launch or something. I don't know, but I'm really excited. I think it'll be so much fun. We're going for Carnival. So I'm currently picking out my outfit and like making sure that everything I want to wear is packed up. Honestly, I will say I also just came back from Whistler. I was there for like four days, a few days ago. And when I was moving out of my apartment, it was such a pain that I had to pack my luggage for what I'm bringing to my parents house, what I'm bringing to Whistler and what I'm bringing to Brazil and then all the stuff that's going into storage. So it was like so much effort, but also this Whistler trip that I just went on. It was a ski trip with the brand Nitorium. I actually vlogged the entire thing and I want to post that on YouTube as well. It was so much fun. It was like a skincare brand that they took as skiing, which was really exciting. I hadn't been skiing in a few years. So it was kind of scary a little bit, but it ended up going well. And now I kind of want to go skiing more often, but it was so fun. And it's always fun going on a branch trip with like people that I don't know, because I feel like it really puts my social skills to the test because you got to make new friends, you got to stay outside of your comfort zone. And sometimes it can be awkward and cringe and like, I don't know, kind of uncomfortable, but like it's just a part of it. At this point, I honestly feel like I'm just like a pro at being uncomfortable in situations, which I don't know if it's a flex or not. The other two things that I did this past week and weekend, yeah, because today's Monday is I hosted some events for a better you. This kind of goes hand in hand with the podcast and it's like obviously it was for that, but I haven't really talked about it so much. One of the things I really want to do in 2026 is host more events for a better you. I want a better you to be like not only the community that I have online or through my earphones, but a community that I actually see in person. I explain this to the girls when I saw them in person, but I was like, when I talk to you guys across the screen, it really does feel like you guys are my friends. Even when I see you guys in person or someone comes up and they tell me that they listen to the podcast, I'm like, I feel like I already know you. I mean, you guys definitely know me, but like anyone who watches my content, we clearly like the same things we are on the same wavelength. So when I see you guys in person, it's like, we are just already friends. And then I love that if I have multiple people that are coming to see me and they both listen to my podcast, it's like I already know you guys have something in common too. So basically what I'm trying to say is the whole community, all of us would be friends in person. So I love seeing each other actually in real life, taking photos, taking content, having conversations and just making friends in general. I feel like friendship and stepping outside of your comfort zone is something that I really preach on my podcast. So if I can be the one to facilitate those hangouts and those events and like make those things happen, I am more than happy to do that. So yeah, I really want this year to be the year that I host a lot of events. I think I've talked about it before too, but I'm getting my yoga license in the summer. And like I would love to host yoga classes eventually and like maybe retreats and maybe like events. And I've already been on a few retreats myself and it's just so fun. And every time I feel like I come out changed, it's literally kind of like going on a brand trip. So I just want to be the one hosting it. I like literally get excited just talking about it. But anyways, this weekend was kind of like a trial run of this. I hosted a workout class with House Concepts. They're a gym in Vancouver. And we did a 50 minute mat Pilates workout and it was open to the public. So a bunch of you guys actually were able to sign up and it was free. And we wrote them like a little letter. I had a little card in there, some stickers. They all got a rose. It felt very on theme with the fact that it's also February. So kind of Valentine's Day self love vibe, but it was so nice to meet everyone take photos. That was super fun. And then also yesterday I hosted an influencer event. That was a gallon times movie night. So everyone got a better you journal in their little goodie bag as well as they had some other partners giving them stuff. So they had little PR bags and we watched the movie love Rosie. I don't know if any of you guys have seen that, but it was pretty fun. We got food, we got popcorn, we got snacks, we got a little cocktail. I had to do kind of like a little bit of public speaking at both of them and it is so much easier for me to talk to my audience than it is to literally just talk to my peers. Like my other influencer friends. I'm like, why is this so embarrassing all of a sudden, but I think that's common. But anyways, it just also reminded me that I want to get better at public speaking. But anyways, all of that is to say that a better you events happened this weekend. It was so fun. I feel like it was a big learning lesson. And for the next events that I want to come, I think that they're going to be a lot better. And now I kind of know what I like and what I don't like. So anyways, I hope that you guys are following me on a better you. By for an Instagram and even my regular Instagram for an under a mirror is so that you guys can see whenever I post on my story like, hey, there's going to be an event. Here's the sign up link. This is what's happening. I would love to meet more of you guys in person, especially the a better you community. Like we all kind of are on the same wavelength. So anyways, enough that you happen about me. Wimsy is something that I really embody. I feel like honestly, that's maybe even why YouTube is my profession. I feel like I've always been someone with a pretty bubbly, spunky, open kind of cringe. I'm not even going to lie. Cringe personality. And that is why I feel like YouTube is something that I've always been drawn to. I feel like even when I was younger, I would always be called the chatterbox. I would always be just like running around with a big imagination, being crafty, drawing on everything, getting dirty, being messy, especially doing a sport like gymnastics. And I did dance when I was younger. I was really into like performance and just being seen and just like running around literally, especially barefoot. So I feel like honestly, one thing that I really appreciate about doing YouTube as a full-time career, as a full-time job is that a lot of times when you go to school or you have a job, you kind of get like socialized to start acting a little bit more mature, a little bit more corporate, a little bit more uptight. Maybe you have to be with people that you don't like or that judge you and then you have to like act a certain way. And along the way you lose your whimsy, you lose that child like joy, you lose this sense of like freedom. And with doing YouTube, one thing that the main thing actually that was enforced for me or that was rewarded was having my personality, was my personality being loud and being seen. And one thing that I remember was like my quote forever, it's still my favorite quote is authenticity as power. That is something that I've lived by for, I mean literally forever, but maybe consciously more like the past like seven years since I started this. The reason why authenticity as power it's meant so much to me was because whenever I would try to act a certain way, try to act a little bit more mature, try to act a little bit older. My videos wouldn't even do that well. When I let myself play and laugh and like make mistakes on camera and like just be silly, that's when my views would go up. That's when my videos would go viral. That's when people actually commented and like the video and subscribed to me. So then that kind of like stuck into my head like in order to be an entertainer or to be like, you know, what I want to be online, I'm going to let my personality shine and I'm going to let it flourish. And because I haven't had to go into a workplace and like have the judgment of my peers, you know, I get to film alone in my room or in my car literally or in my, you know, bedroom just in the comfort of myself. I feel like I've left that kind of inner child spark alive. Like no one has touched it. It hasn't been like burnt out yet. And it's kind of honestly a light and an energy within that I really try to protect. Like if ever I'm around negative people and I can see myself kind of acting a certain way or like feeling like embarrassed or like I want to hide or like I want to be less myself. I actively go out of my way to not be in those spaces because I know that this kind of light within me is what makes my career. All of that is to say that your whimsy, your child like joy, that light that you have within, we all have that. We have that since we are children. And one thing I want to say is it is especially maybe there if you had the privilege of having a little bit of safety when you were younger. I mean, hopefully we all have that, but I know that's not the case for everybody. Sometimes, you know, we have that tragic, tragic, tragic thing of like, you know, if you have some bad things going on when you're young, sometimes you kind of go into this, preentified a child role. And then like sometimes you don't have the safety to be this whimsy, which now that I say that is something to note if that is you or if I'm saying this and it's kind of like not triggering, but like kind of being like, wait, that this happened to me. That's something to look in in itself, like kind of being like, where do I have some wounds? What do I have to dismantle? Did I have the freedom to be as whimsy as I wanted to when I was younger? And that in itself is a good like place to start if you want to do shadow work or some journaling or starting to like understand yourself more. I think that is like super important to me, but again, we're going to talk about if we did have this like whimsy childhood or whimsy personality when we were younger. And then you've noticed that throughout the years, you know, you've started to act a certain way to protect yourself from judgment, whether that be from peers or teachers or just like certain environments, you know, we all have that within us and we just have to kind of like, it's almost like if we were like, I'm going to give you guys like a, what's the word a metaphor, an image that you can have in your mind, but it feel like it's like a hard boiled egg. Like imagine the yellow in the middle, that's like your light and like throughout your life, you know, you start to like, not harden, but you know, you got that white part around you around this, this soft boiled egg. I know this is a crazy example. But like, you know, you start to have all of this kind of protection around you, but it's that little yellow ball within. That's like the inner child in you. And I think when we're older or something that's like really trending right now is to like, you know, let your guard down until like unravel yourself. Maybe we can say an onion. Maybe that's a better example. But like unraveling yourself and being like, okay, that inner part of me, that's the whimsy part, that's the joyous part, that's the part of me that we want to protect. And now that we have the freedom and the safety when we're older, that's the part that we want to kind of show off to the world because there's so much freedom in allowing yourself to be fully yourself, no matter where you are, no matter who you're around. And honestly, the more of us that can be this like whimsy and like free self, I feel like it's like a trickling effect. Like if I allow myself to be fully me, I inhibit myself, I let myself be crangy, let myself have fun. That gives someone else the permission to kind of let their walls down, then they feel a little bit more freedom. They feel more joyous. They feel more playful. Then they go on into the world and like, do that to someone else. And I feel like it's like a, it's a domino effect. And that is truly what we want here, just to live more joyous days and live without having any constraints or any layers of shame. Anyways, that was a really long intro to kind of explain what I feel like keeping your whimsy alive means to me and why I feel like this is something I feel strongly about or why I feel like I have been able to maintain my whimsy. Having that said, after hearing my own story, I feel like this might spark some thoughts inside of you and thinking like one was I able to have this whimsy personality when I was younger. Two, did my whimsy ever get hardened or did I kind of shove it down? And when was that? Like these are good questions to ask yourself. I remember I was again, very whimsy childhood, whatever when I was like really young, like elementary school middle school. And I remember of course, I think this happens to everyone like high school. I would get in trouble all the time because I was so chatty and then I started getting kind of quiet and then I thought I was a quiet person like I identified with a quiet person mentality if that makes sense. Like in my mind, I said like, oh, Fernanda is a quiet person. And one thing I also talk about on this podcast is like self concept and self concept is like the biggest thing. And how you see yourself is how you're going to act in this world and how you show up and how you allow other people to treat you or name you when I thought of myself as a shy person, I would go around and I'm like, I guess I'm a shy person and then other people would think I'm shy. And when I started dismantling that and I said, actually, no, Fernanda is open, Fernanda is bubbly, Fernanda is chatty. I started actually acting like that chatty open person and then other people start to perceive me like that. I feel like that's also something that you can ask yourself for kind of journal about like what is the inner dialogue I have with myself? Do I describe myself as a serious person as somebody who doesn't have this whimsy mentality because if that is so, maybe we need to start affirming to ourself like actually know I am positive, I am optimistic, I am chatty, I do have the ability to be whimsy to maintain this whimsy and like I don't have to act a certain way. Now if we search up what whimsy means it says playfully quaint or fancy full behavior or humor, I don't even know what that means, playful or amusing quality, a sense of humor and playfulness, full of charm and imagination, often with a touch of unexpected delight. I kind of love that and honestly delight is something that I want to emphasize on this podcast episode. We're gonna talk about the quality of just like relishing in delight, I just love that, I saw this girl instead of writing like pros and cons or like ins and outs for the month, she would write little deaths and delights, like just something that brings you joy and gratification and pleasure or even satisfaction. I also want to say I saw a quote on TikTok and it was saying that to be whimsy is to be brave and that is something that I feel like I really resonate with. Earlier I think sometimes being cringe and allowing yourself to be cringe and to be seen is embarrassing and it is awkward but you have to be brave in order to do it. And there's always so many wins on the other side of that. Like yes it is awkward, yes it is uncomfortable. If I wasn't brave and putting myself out there and letting myself be seen, I wouldn't have this career, I wouldn't have maybe the friends that I have, I wouldn't have maybe the partner that I have. And I even reposted a picture on Instagram that was saying be yourself so people looking for you can find you and I've never related with something more. Again it kind of goes in hand with the quote of authenticity as power. But if you just allow yourself to be you, those people that are also looking for authentic people will find you and if they click with you, you know that they don't want the facade version of you, they don't want the shell version of you, they want the truest version of you. And you only have to be more you to be more like like you don't have to act like anything you don't have to uphold anything you don't have to monitor or perform. I feel like that is something that I'm also so over like we're not trying to be performative. We do not want to dim ourselves down. I also want to say for anyone listening to this that feels kind of skeptical of the whimsy vibe. It is not performative to be whimsy and I know like whimsy is a very trendy word right now on TikTok and like you might be like, oh everyone talks about whimsy like that's so like cringe whatever. You don't have to call it that if you don't want to you don't have to feel like you're following a TikTok trend even me talking about this right now. Don't feel like, oh Fernandez made a podcast on how to be whimsy. I'm going to be whimsy now. What this podcast episode of guest is trying to like inspire you guys to do is to just find that inner child within yourself find that inner child play find that authentic version of yourself and to have fun with it to let that be seen. Whatever fun means to you everyone's going to have different rituals for what whimsy means to them or different definitions or different examples of something whimsical in their life. Everyone has different definition of that. But if you allow yourself or you give yourself that permission to even let yourself figure out what that is for yourself. I swear you will have such a happier days that you will inspire other people just by being yourself. You will raise your vibrations and your days will just be more joyous and I think that's all that we want to have especially these days low key low key the days have been a little bit dire. I feel like these days so many bad things in the news. You know we're all trying to do our best out here. It's like the least we can do is be a little bit joyous on our own time. So again whimsy is not just being silly. It is playful without needing permission comfort with imagination. So emotional lightness seeing magic in ordinary things and not being overly self conscious. I myself can definitely be self conscious in certain things and I can definitely have insecurities but sometimes the bravery is required in these kind of settings because my urge to be authentic or like my want to be authentic is stronger than those insecurities. Again whimsy is not just silly stupid dumb whatever I saw this quote and it was like don't mistake my whimsy for thinking that I'm dumb like just because I'm whimsy and I'm light and I'm playful and I can be kind of floaty do not get that twisted. You know we can still be intelligent and mature and strong and like you know have our shit going for us. I feel like that's also something that I really want to emphasize having this whimsy or childlike spirit does not mean mature. It just means that you are comfortable with yourself and you don't have to perform or put on a facade and I mean I don't know about you guys but I would love to be described as like enchanting or charming or delightful. Even curious I mean what a what a trait to have I think we all yearn to be around curious people to ask us questions and that are just fun to be around that are charismatic so why not be that person so that you know we are kind of sprinkling joy and magic into other people's days. Now I wrote down why do I think some people have it and some people don't have it now we kind of mentioned some people have their facades up but I do think that some people at our more grown age can maybe be a little bit unhappy or feel stuck or feel bitter and I think that if you are listening to this podcasting you're like I totally don't resonate with this I've definitely been a little bit more bitter these days or have been a little bit more jealous or have been a little bit more unhappy again circumstances or situations I can't kind of put myself in every single person's shoes so you know take what applies to you. But if you are feeling like unhappy maybe that is a reason for why you haven't maybe been able to embody this energy so freely and that is something to do a little bit of a life audit or self audit for but it's also reminder to yourself that if you feel good and like someone else is kind of giving you this bitter energy or like this like weird resentful energy just know that they're probably unhappy in their lives and that is why they are judging you because truly happy people do not judge other people if you think about it even like I would say that my YouTube or like my career my social media career has been a little bit more than I do. My social media career has been pretty successful. I would never ever ever bash another creator for just like starting because I'd be like oh my god hell yeah like if I was able to do it you're gonna be able to do it. Maybe if I hadn't been able to have this success and I like was bitter about my position I was angry I was jealous and then I saw someone else trying I'd probably be like oh my god another girl is gonna come for my my spot. Why how dare she try when like I'm already trying oh she's copying me. Do you know what I mean? Like I guess what I'm trying to say is like if you are feeling good about something you always want to encourage other people to feel good and to do that thing. I'm not feeling good about myself. I'm gonna try to bring other people down so I feel some sense of like comfort or safety because no one wants to feel bad about themselves. So just know that if anyone is giving you bad juju bad vibes they're not really enjoying your whimsy energy just know that they are probably unhappy and they're probably stuck in their own situation. I also want to say that sometimes when we are having bad situations where bad mental health times or we're in a bad situation sometimes we don't have this kind of safety to allow ourselves to be light and playful. You know sometimes the situation be kind of dark like sorry we don't feel like being so joyous and like that is also something to be mindful of and maybe to have self compassion for like not everybody has this kind of luxury or privilege to have this more joyful energy. I found online a statement that says that whimsy thrives in emotional safety and so I think that is just something important to know and I think this also kind of goes hand in hand with like within relationships. I think some people say like you know when people get into relationships maybe they start to act more childlike or more playful or more imaginative that's usually because they feel safe with this person and if you are in a relationship and you feel like you aren't safe to bring this kind of playful side of yourself out that is something to know and to be like wait why don't I feel safe with this person why are they not letting me have this like inner child self or like this self that I am alone with them. I just want to be surrounded by people who let us be our truest versions of ourselves and who make us feel more like ourselves. Now we're going to talk about some practical tips on how to be more whimsy both in the mentality and in practical everyday steps. Now mentality this is going to be our inner world you know because as I was saying the inner dialogue and the inner narrative that we're telling ourselves that is how we're going to move through this world. So it is important that we are feeding our minds with good positive material and that we are filtering everything in a more optimistic way. Now I'm not going to say that you got to just be positive about everything and have blind optimism but looking on the bright side when you can thinking about the positives not only dwelling in the sadness and like seeing the best in people and in situations. I think it's also important to let go of insecurities and let go of your own inner judgment because sometimes people are not judging you as heavily as you are judging yourself and we are all our worst critic. So we have to be mindful of that and it's something that even I'm working through and sometimes when I'm feeling like insecure about something I need to be like hey nobody cares it's not that deep like just let yourself be brave let yourself be you and just like you know keep moving with it. I also think that something to remember is like there are more important things there are more serious things to worry about than somebody else's perception of you or an insecurity like sometimes it just isn't that deep and as much as we want to give ourselves like little blanket statements of like do this to feel more comfortable or do this to not feel insecure or like have this mindset shift or listen to this quote or say this affirmation like sometimes I feel like we just need to hear the hard truth and it's just like it's just not that deep. It's not that deep. It's not that deep. Sometimes we just got to get over little things that we are ruminating over. Now for the fun practical whimsy tips these things are in no particular order. They're just some tips that I felt were more unconventional not super crazy or anything but they're just like things that I feel like I haven't said before in a different podcast episode or they're things that I notice my most whimsy as friends do or things that I kind of do that I don't necessarily always talk about because it's just more like something that I do with myself which I also want to do. I feel like that in itself is whimsy having a relationship with yourself you know when you're not with people you're not with your family you're not with your partner and you're just spending time alone maybe you do something maybe you like to hum alone maybe you like to skip alone maybe you like to get lost alone like if you know these things about yourself sometimes you kind of stumble across these little self discovery findings also when you're journaling and when you spend more time alone because like if you're always around other people you don't even realize the things that you do alone but I definitely feel the relationship with myself and I try to make that relationship as strong as I can. I know when I'm journaling a lot and I feel very connected to myself it feels really great and I feel very in control I feel very stable. I think sometimes when I'm like always around people and I'm always traveling I'm like wait Loki I haven't gotten to check in with myself I haven't had a little solo date or anything so if you do spend time alone think about those things that you do with just you and form a relationship with yourself and kind of not just say that you have a relationship with yourself but sometimes even being conscious of it like treating yourself like someone that you love like if it was your own inner child and I think that's actually something that like people always talk about whether that be like in therapy or like in inner child kind of healing stuff like envision yourself as a little baby and how would you take it? You know we can't be talking to this little baby we can't be under feeding this little baby you know we got to give them fun give them play give them novelty you know treat them with respect just treating them so kindly like that even like I think sometimes like self care when you think of yourself as like outside of you you're like hey I want to give I want to give myself a little face mask I want to wash my hair I want to put myself on a pretty dress I want to put some makeup on and just kind of talking to yourself like that. Number one I wrote dopamine dressing this is one of my favorite ways to be more whimsy I searched up online what dopamine dressing is and it says it is a fashion trend rooted in psychology focusing on wearing bright colors bold patterns and joyful comfortable clothing to boost mood energy and confidence it aims to stimulate the brains feel good neurotransmitter dopamine creating a personal expressive style that prioritizes happiness over trends I'm all over that some key aspects of dopamine dressing could include wearing vibrant colors personal expression and mood boosting textures and pieces I have a very good example of this and when I was in Amsterdam for my birthday I was thinking about what I wanted to wear and I was spending it alone because I was solo traveling and I'm like you know what the day before I'm going to go shopping and I'm just going to go around the stores and see what really calls to me if I see something that I really like I'm just going to buy that so that I feel so joyous on the day of my birthday and I was looking around looking for what I wanted to wear I found this really bright red and pink stripe sweater and I was like that is what I'm going to wear and you know what it's really bright it's really flashy some people I bet you probably wouldn't like it because they're just like holy that's really a bright sweater but I wore it on my birthday and I felt so good I felt so happy and I just felt so good in it like I would have felt way better wearing that than like black or like beige and it was just fun it was different and that made me feel whimsy I just like felt good wearing it another example of this is like yesterday I was going thrifting and I found this shirt it was like a blue cutoff shirt and it had like numbers on it and they had like little glitter on the numbers and I just loved it I thought like having the glitters and the sparkles on the shirt were just like so cute and you know I'm 24 I don't know how old you guys think I am or how old I come across but sometimes I'm like step outside of myself and I'm like wait is this like is sparkles on my t shirt at 24 weird and sometimes I get like overly conscious about it and I'm just like wait is it weird and then I'm like cat I don't care I like it I'm gonna wear it I feel good in it so that's what I'm gonna do but you know leading with your intuition and leading with your instincts like if I like something first I'm gonna pick that thing another example is like these little hats they're kind of like strawberry shortcake hats that kind of look like little English hats I didn't even see anyone wearing them like some influencer it wasn't even really like a trend that I found but I just tried it on for fun and I was like look you look kind of cute in this and I wore it last spring and I actually just bought another hat just like this like literally last week but I wore it in the spring and I felt so good walking around like I was like I look so cute I don't care if this is a trend I don't care if I haven't seen anyone wear it I feel good I feel like I look pretty and I look cute doing it so like I felt really good in that the one that I bought last week is a very similar and it has some little buttons tied to it and it just looks so whimsy like I bet you if I was dressed top to bottom in like Prada or Dior I would also feel like very chic and gorgeous but like literally put me in a little strawberry shortcake hat and bows and buttons and I bet you I would be just as happy I feel like my friend Mila does this really well I always see her wearing something new and cute like sometimes she'll do like little colorful pins in her hair sometimes she'll like layer pieces she'll wear colorful tights and it's like so exciting to see her outfits every time because like every time she's wearing something new I'm like where did you get that from she's like oh I just found it in my closet and I'm like you know what I think that might be the true essence of like having good fashion sense like you don't have to look for other people like what's trending on Pinterest what is Haley Bieber wearing it's like no I'm gonna wear whatever makes me feel good with random things in my closet you know going thrifting and picking things that are one of a kind that are unique to you that tell a story that make you feel a certain way that I mean I don't think anything in top that I think that is like the essence of a cool girl I even think wearing colorful like underwear and bras are really cute I remember I had like a realization with one of my friends when she told me that she only wears nude black and white underwear and I was like what the hell like I am buying the most crazy random underwear because I want like underwear in every single color whether it has a little bow on it or it's plaid or it's blue or it's got sparkles like it just makes me happy and it's fun and it's like a little secret with you and yourself same with wearing like matching lingerie sets like under your everyday stuff or just like matching sets in general I also think this kind of whimsy self expression can come across in your nails I always get fun nail art when I definitely could be getting like a manicure or like a normal beige color maybe it can be in your makeup if you want to do like a purple eyeliner or blue eyeliner I know a lot of my friends again we really value this personal style so if I go around thinking about all my friends I could probably tell you something unique they each do like my friend cam I feel like she always wears different glasses and like again all these things yes they are all trends yes everything could be a micro trend but it's like you're not looking to somebody else for them to tell you or to give you the okay that you should wear this you do this because you like this so like she always wears like different glasses Elena my friend recently started wearing like a bunch of little cute thin scarves that she was wearing these like long necklaces with like different beads on them I feel like she always wears her hair up in like a clip like I said my friend my Ella is always wearing something colorful I feel like I love she has like so many different shoes she'll wear like little ponchos we recently went out and she wore these like cheetah shorts over her tights and they were just like so cute my other friend she always wears the most like neon colorful things or like sparkly things I don't know I just feel like I really admire that in my friends when they like pick something that feels true to them and like nobody told them to do that it feels intentional also I feel like intentionality is whimsy like whimsy could be kind of picking something random but I think it's also whimsy to be intentional about your own personal taste the next way that you can practice being whimsy and we've talked about this throughout the entire episode but it is relishing we're gonna say that word also can I just say low key whimsy thing to do is like saying the most random things and having a crazy vocabulary sometimes and I feel like this is something that I've gained through having this podcast is like I just be saying random words and sometimes they're really dramatic but I love saying words that like I maybe wouldn't say in everyday conversation like I probably don't say the word relishing all the time with my friends or like the other day I was on the podcast and I was saying like oh we're going to midwife our goals into completion and I said that to my friends and they were like when have you ever said that and I'm like literally I don't know but like for some reason when I'm on my podcast I just be saying new words and I feel like there's something whimsical about being dramatic in your language about being dramatic in the way you describe things in the way that you say things I mean if you are using bigger words or like vocab that you don't normally use sometimes you can be really descriptive and really specific with certain like items or certain things that you want to describe and it's just like so much more fun. So honestly another we're just gonna slide that one in there whimsy tip using new words learning new words and like being dramatic when you speak or being very specific in the way that you describe. But anyways back to the other one I was saying child like play and interest going back to the things that you love and just reclaiming play. I want you guys to think about what you used to like when you were younger and how you can do that at this age. You know when I was younger I loved playing with dolls I loved Barbies I loved polypocket I loved like making little drawn paper girls kind of if that makes sense like I would draw like a little girl on a piece of paper and like cut her out I feel like sometimes maybe I could get into improv nowadays I feel like that would feel kind of like that. Or actually I remember doing like a drama camp one summer at school again if I wanted to do like acting classes or drama that would feel very similar to what I used to like to do when I was younger when I was younger I used to love playing with polymer clay and making jewelry. I could definitely do that now I mean I did a silver ring making class the other day and I also did a pottery painting class and I really want to go to a spinning like wheel pottery class. So all of those things would feel very similar to what I used to do also I grew up doing gymnastics and dance. So like I did pole dancing like last month and I love doing yoga now that feels very similar to like what my younger self used to like to do like kind of the performance aspect of it and dancing and feeling very embodied. I think because I grew up doing gymnastics also I'm very used to being barefoot and so whenever I'm barefoot in general I feel just like my younger self. Another example of this could be when I was younger I used to love singing so whenever I do karaoke or singing now it feels very nostalgic. So yeah just like ask yourself what it is that you used to like when you were younger how can I do that now how can I do that with no shame how can I reclaim those things that I used to like and like how can I incorporate that into my everyday life these days. And if there is things that you can remember just trying new hobbies and interests in general will always be fun. Loki my last apartment had little trinkets all around my house that looked like little toys and did it look a little bit playful and childish maybe but I felt very whimsy in my house and I loved it. The next way that you can practice whimsy is just being barefoot more often specifically I wrote barefoot in the grass or laying in the grass. I don't know about you guys but I love laying in the grass like whenever I'm on a walk I'm like Loki I just want to lay. I feel like there is actually something I'm not even going to do the research right now but like it's like proven I don't know that like being in the grass like raises your vibrations like you're actually grounding you're putting your feet on the floor. And whenever I lay I feel like I get recharged by the earth like I really do feel like it is raising my vibrations as we speak and it just feels so nice I mean sometimes that you can be a little bit OCD about what you're wearing you're like you don't want to get your shirt dirty but if you put a shirt down jacket down and you just like lay or just like let yourself get a little bit dirty you know your clothes will be washed things will be back to normal in no time but like letting yourself get a little bit messy get a little bit dirty is always fun and it feels good to have the grass in between your toes. The next one is collecting vintage tea cups and plates or any cute vintage kitchenware you would be surprised how much vintage kitchenware I mean my mom both collectively have we always buy from the thrift store like little vintage mugs or vintage little plates tea cups and like what you pour milk and sugar out of it is just so cute and I always like just drink my water out of there or my milk out of there and it just feels like I'm having a tea party with myself and it just feels very whimsy you know it's like we don't need always just your basic Ikea. Sometimes the little vintage plates are cheaper they're cuter they're more fun they've got more character I don't know I personally love it. Okay moving on the next way to stay whimsy is by listening to fairy music while you read this doesn't have to be just fairy music but it could be fairy music it could be Hogwarts music it could be instrumental joyous I don't know sparkling music I swear I've said this before but on Spotify you can have a playlist for literally anything if I search up sparkling princess fairy I bet you there's a playlist for that you know what here we'll do it together I'm going to search up really well. I'm going to search up reading in a castle and guess what we've got playlist called fantasy book ambiance reading at night reading in a cozy library reading fantasy I'll search up fairy now we've got fairy music fantasy music forest fairy vibes etc you get the point it's all like instrumental music that sounds very like fantasy and listening to that music in the background while you cook clean read like meditate anything maybe while you're falling asleep it just feels like you're in a fairy land it feels like you're in like a magical world I don't know this is something that I love doing and I feel like I also love it because I like having some noise or ambiance in the background while I'm like reading or something but I don't want words in my songs or while I'm doing like work or like at the time doing homework or something so I feel like this is the method that I use and again it just feels very magical it's sprinkling magic into your everyday life. The next way that you can be more whimsical is exploring your city with no agenda or plan honestly just walking with no direction and letting the wind take you where it wants to go letting your intuition guide you you know maybe you're walking down and you're like oh these houses are cute let me just walk down this street of houses and just like observe and notice the differences like actually pay attention to your surroundings. I saw someone do this before and they were calling it like a color walk where they said they go in a walk and they were going to go in the direction of every single time they saw a yellow item so it's like I'm walking and I see a yellow car I'm going to walk that way and then I see a yellow ball I walk that way and it's just like letting the colors and around you and your surroundings in general to kind of dictate where you go. There can be so much fun in that especially if you're exploring a new city like whenever I'm solo traveling I'm just walking with literally no directions and just whenever I see a store that I'm like oh I kind of want to go in there I just let myself go in there or you can maybe make an itinerary and do kind of like an explore date in your own city but like actually have it planned out like I always go on take talk and I start to up like what are the best vintage stores in Vancouver and then like I'll go to that area and just like explore a bunch of vintage stores or I'll go to maybe like another area where they have a bunch of coffee shops and I'll do like a little coffee shop crawl and that is very fun. and that is very fun. The next way to be more whimsy is to journal every day, make this a routine, make this a habit, make this a relationship that you have with yourself where you bring this journal every day in your bag and it kind of feels like you and this journal are in a relationship and I was not crazy, but I just mean like it's like your right hand man. My brown journal with the little strap that I always talk about, I brought that journal with me everywhere for like a year, I swear I had attachment to that journal by the end of it. But I would bring my pens with me, my colors, my stickers, and I would just like stick a bunch of stuff to it, play with it, you know. Everyone journals so differently, if you wanna just journal with a black pen, that's also fine, but for me, I love journaling with like highlighters and pens and colors and gel pens and it just makes it so much more fun. Even like buying stickers, like whenever I go to a little store and I see like a cute different little sticker, I would always pick it up and it just made me really excited to journal. The next thing I wrote down is talking to strangers and being more open. I think there is something very whimsical about not feeling like you need to move through your days very self-contained. I think if you're walking around like say hi to the people that you walk past, if you're at a coffee shop, maybe ask the person next to you, hey, what are you reading? Or give a compliment, like I'm a big compliment giver and I always like to like pick out something super specific whether that be like the cashier's nails or maybe the cashier's makeup or like if I'm walking and I see this girl and I like I really like her hat instead of just staring and like saying it in my head, just say it to them, it kind of breaks like the wall and it makes you feel so much more connected to your environment, to your surroundings, to the people around you. And you know, we all say we want community, but like, I don't know if so this before, you can't have a village if you're not a villager. If you wanna say something to someone, just say it so that there's no weird lingering like quietness or feeling like there's a wall between you. If you're in an elevator with someone, maybe strike up a conversation. If you're having breakfast alone, maybe talk to your waitress a little bit more. I know sometimes when people would ask me like my Uber driver they'd be like, how's your day going? I would just be like, good. And then go back on my phone. Maybe instead take out the earphones and be like, oh I'm good, I actually just did this and I'm going here, how's your day going? Or like maybe if you go to like a nail appointment, like do you have any clients after this? Oh like what's been the popular nail trend these days? So have you been, do you have any trouble coming up? Like actually being interested in other people's lives, being curious and like also being very open and like not very withholding with the information about you. You know, I think there's so much fun and like freedom in just like being able to speak openly. And not just waiting for people to ask you questions either, like sharing details about yourself freely because you want to. The next way to be whimsy that I wrote down is to drop efficiency for a bit and just to let yourself linger. I think sometimes we want to, and I think this is like common. This is like, also I think this is important too. I have a mixed stance on this. But like to optimize our days as much as we can and to like stack our days to be so productive. But like almost in a rebellion to this capitalistic society we got going on, it's like why don't you just let yourself linger a little bit. Why don't you, you know, have a free day that you set ahead of time to be like, that's my day to do nothing. I don't have to be productive. I don't have to do work for that day to mean something. I don't have to get 10 things done that day for me to feel satisfied. Like why don't I just hang out with my friend a little bit longer. Let the day guide us like where we're gonna go. Let yourself be at a breakfast or a dinner or a lunch hang out a little bit longer than you expected. Letting yourself do things slowly. Even I saw someone say that like doing the things that you can do fast slowly can also kind of like rewire your brain a little bit and like let you even perceive that activity a little bit differently. And just to be more mindful in your everyday movements like maybe writing a Valentine's Day letter and like taking the extra time to maybe write it a little bit nicer, maybe practice some calligraphy skills, maybe do a little drawing, like making things handmade. Maybe instead of going to the store and buying bread, how about we like learn how to make bread, we take our time with it, we take our time making breakfast, we take our time making our dinners. I know something that felt very whimsical to me was when I would be making my breakfasts instead of just throwing together something random, I would like make a yogurt bowl with like every single little fruit and I would put little nugs on it, little pistachios and I'd be like, you know what, let's add little like chia seeds and like making my meals and making the things, this is also kind of a side note but like I would make my meals so pretty that looked like a fairy would eat it. Like I just wanted it to look so aesthetic so I could like take a nice photo of it. And like I found so much joy in making everyday things look more beautiful in making things look better by taking longer to do those things. Instead of just rushing it, rushing to the next thing and I think that that's also very, I wanna talk about feminine energy and like another podcast but like a very feminine thing to do or like a way to kind of embody femininity is just like slowing down and making things around you beautiful. Obviously, again, don't get it twisted, we're gonna talk about femininity and like feminine energy in a different podcast. Don't feel like what I just said is what being feminine means is just like an aspect of it and like maybe something that you can practice when kind of wanting to embody this feminine energy but definitely just slowing down, letting yourself linger, not feeling like you need to be so productive in every single thing that you do and optimizing your time, enjoying that in between space and being in that uncertainty and just like not feeling pressured and just kind of enjoying that. Also with that, now let's say all those words, it kind of reminds me of yearning. Okay, this could be something actually really fun. I didn't have this in my notes but low-key yearning is kind of whimsical. Like letting yourself yearn if you're yearning for whatever it may be. Maybe you're yearning for a vacation that's coming up, a trip that's coming up, maybe your boyfriend, your girlfriend that you haven't seen in a few days, you're yearning for this thing, okay? Enjoy that yearning and that wanting and that desire and like see what comes out of that. Maybe you make a playlist out of that. Maybe you make art out of that. Maybe you start journaling and suddenly you're a poet out of that. I feel like that in itself is beautiful too and I feel like that's a very whimsical thing to do. I definitely was enjoying this a lot this past year and like every time I kind of felt like I was yearning, I was like let me head to that journal. Let me make a playlist. Let me draw something and art comes out of that, I will say. Another way that this kind of goes hand in hand, like yearning for something is like I have this yoga retreat coming up in the summer and the yoga teacher sent out an email and she's like guys were six months away, we're in the anticipation phase and like this is sometimes the best part. This is half the joy of actually doing the thing. Like the anticipation, the process and then once you actually do it, you know, soon after it's done. So like letting yourself enjoy that anticipation, lingering in it, sitting in it and like she recommended us like a bunch of books. So like I feel like that is even a little bit more whimsical. Another thing that I wrote down on my list of how to be more whimsy is to have secrets with yourself. I don't know why, but I think that this is kind of cute. I feel like this kind of goes hand in hand with journaling. The journal that I bought had a little kind of like log and it kind of felt very secretive. You know, I was just writing what I actually wanted to write and I was writing my secrets down, which could be controversial or not controversial but like kind of nerve-wracking, but I really enjoyed it. I felt like it was kind of fun. I felt like for a long time, I didn't have any secrets and I would just over share every single thing about me. And when I started kind of keeping more things to myself and like being like, I don't have to tell everyone, I don't have to show everyone. It kind of felt more special and more private. I even feel kind of like that about like I said, like this, this man I'm seeing. I'm like, it feels more special and fun when like I don't have to tell anyone, I don't have to justify anything. I don't have to, or not justify, that's not the word, but like I don't have to, I don't know, I don't have to worry about saying it to anyone. I can just like enjoy it. Okay, I'm like sweating in my car right now as I'm filming this, so I'm gonna say one last one and then we're going to finish off. But the last thing that I wrote is two, well actually I'm gonna say two. The first one I wrote was let yourself be cringe, but we already talked about that. So I'm just gonna remind you that at the end of this episode of letting yourself be cringe, letting yourself twirl if you want, dance if you want, dance like no one's watching. I don't know, make a weird cringe joke, a weird cringe statement, put your affirmations up, Loki, I had sticky notes with affirmations all around my apartment and somebody came over and I didn't take any of them down. And did I feel embarrassed and cringy? Yes, but I just let it happen and whatever. She got to see what my inner brain looked like externalized. Go out with your friends, dance like nobody's watching, do that new dance move. When you do karaoke, seeing like nobody's watching, that is something I also did that felt very fun and playful. When I was in Whistler, we were doing karaoke and like a lot of the other influencers were like kind of embarrassed to sing and I was like, Loki, give me that mic. I'm ready to sing. And that was super fun. Also something that can be kind of cringe, but feels whimsical is like, like I said this guy that I was seeing or this guy that I'm seeing, I made like a little like a Christmas card, like a Valentine's Day card and like I wanted to make these crafts because they're fun for me. And I felt like, is it like at the time? 'Cause it was a long time ago. I was like, is this too soon? Like is this weird? Is it weird that I'm doing this? And then I was just like, you know, this is something that I wanna do. I'm just gonna be brave and give it to them anyways. And like if they think it's cringe, you know, I don't care, at least I did it. I wanted to do it and it felt true to me. And I'm also big advocate for truth. I feel like truth is whimsy, like just saying, just saying how it is. Anyways, I'm kinda done talking about this. I feel like I'm now I'm gonna go in circles and I'm also getting really hot in this car. But I hope you enjoyed this episode. I hope you got something out of it. I hope that by the end of this episode, you're feeling fun, you're feeling excited, you're ready to go romanticize your life and your days. And you know, you're just feeling like you wanna go be brave and be truthful and be cringe and be fun and be playful and be childish. And I love you guys. I will see you guys very soon. And I'm going to Brazil. So keep updated on my Instagram. See you very soon.
