How My Student Got Into UPenn, Dartmouth, Columbia, Brown, and Cornell

This is your host Julie and today this episode I'm going to share with you an interview that I did with my student. The student is class of 2021 and she recently got accepted into UPEN Dartmouth Columbia Brown and Cornell. She also shares that she received a Merrick Scholarship offer at USC as well. So you can second to be able to hear her talk about how she was able to get accepted and what she believes was the secret to her success. Okay, so for this episode, we are talking all about in particular how my student got accepted into these Ivy League and talk to your colleges. And in this interview, Alexis talks about how even her friends with the strongest GPA and the strongest SAT and ACT scores still got rejected from the dream colleges. And she believes that and she mentions that her friends were doing a lot of traditional extracurricular clubs like joining a club or racking up volunteering hours. And instead, she talks about what she decided to do and how that played a big role in her getting so many acceptances and creating that instant standout factor. This interview really goes to show and it's a testament to how having good grades and high SAT and ACT scores aren't going to cut it. They're not enough that it itself is not going to be a standout factor. So how do you stand out? But I don't want you to stand out in a way that's overwhelming and confusing and you know makes you pull all nighters. I want to help students just like you stand out with a feeling of purpose and passion and working on a few of the right things. So without further ado, let's go ahead and talk. Let's go ahead and listen how Alexis was able to get accepted into UPEN Dartmouth, Columbia, Brown and Cornell. On IBD, I was really relieved because the IBs were the last college class waiting here. And I've been so anxious since January when I finally submit an application. I was just anxiously waiting for the results to come out and it was really hard for me to think about anything else. I was really just relieved. I was so relieved that I finally had all my options of the total. And I just had to hang out in college for me instead of just stressing about where I get in at. I think that my passion project really did show that I was interested in taking into the field and just joining clubs. My passion project was really focused around literature and the frameworks and writing. And I had a two-year purpose as well. And I also did podcast and then I didn't have a research mission at UPEN, so I just called my name Asian. And I think this really helped me see that a month, because I know a lot of people who had a good grade, but in my class, I think that school was a great thing. I think it's some of the top clubs that they were hoping for. And I think it was because they were really, they had a passion project and they were just kind of clubs club, but nothing that really distinguished them from other applicants. I know you guys both invested in my program and I think the question that comes up a lot for students is like, well, I believe that this program or this process will be really helpful in my college mission process. But how do I convey that to my parents? Because obviously, you have to ask your parents, like, or this investment, or if you just pay for yourself, like what were some of the things that you had to think through before making an investment into this program? I was trying to talk about the program. It was through Instagram and I decided to go to one of the introductory sessions. And so that was really helpful. I talked to my family about it. And we wanted me to get into a good college and they would already be somewhere before senior year. We didn't have that much time. And then Julie Singh Green, who you went to, and she was someone who was actually like having individual contact with students. As for other college programs, it was kind of like a big company where you just get paired with someone who's just kind of going to your grade and tell you if you have a chance of getting in or not. And I think like telling students they don't have a chance of getting in just sounds really discouraging. So I like to lay to somewhere like they're still like, oh, you're not going to get in through GPAs or low to some point. And like people that have encouragement just work on your project, the investment that you can put together, you're seeing that factor. And so we just realized that it's going to be a good investment overall. All right. I hope that you found this interview inspiring and motivational.
