“Homosexualidad y Cinnamon Bread” (w/ Matt + Bowen)

This podcast blends personal storytelling, cultural commentary, and lifestyle recommendations across a variety of topics. A core message emphasizes the importance of individualized healthcare, urging listeners to ask their doctors about injectable prep options tailored to their lifestyles. The conversation then shifts to food, with a strong spotlight on Kewpie Mayo as a unique and beloved Japanese condiment. Travel is discussed through a personal visit to Dollywood, where the park’s emphasis on kindness, storytelling, and community resonates deeply. The film *La Bola Negra* is lauded for its powerful portrayal of queer history, emotional depth, and the persistent theme of shame. Additional segments highlight fashion (Depop) and luxury travel (Virgin Voyages) as accessible, empowering options. The podcast also explores the cultural significance of shows like Survivor and Glee, noting shifts in power dynamics and generational nostalgia. Ultimately, it promotes authenticity, self-expression, and emotional connection—especially within LGBTQ+ communities—while reinforcing that even small choices, like diet, travel, or fashion, reflect deeper values. The recurring theme is that real change and connection come from vulnerability, not judgment, and that cultural progress is built on shared stories.

I mean, that's what Tyler Henry Hollywood Media does. him sad look man oh i see my oh my oh and look over there wow is that culture yes goodness wow las culturistas ding dong las culturistas calling so much to discuss lots happened yeah i um been through a lot been through a lot wait what does nicole kidman say in her 73 questions pretty raw pretty raw how are they he's like how are you feeling these days she goes honestly pretty raw been through a lot been through a lot nicole come back come back we have a new set here we have a new isn't it doesn't it feel like i would feel so sad to have been a guest on las culturistas in the pre-set era yeah oh if you were a guest during the pre-set era tough tough tough you didn't get to experience our home guys we just took new pictures in our home soon we're gonna be out of the void in the thumbnail although i do think our thumbnail sort of gave a really severe dark energy for a little while for our severe dark era reputation um are we out of our reputation moment now we're now we're gonna be lover we're the snake turns into butterflies speaking of butterflies you just came out from dollywood you know it's funny like when you go to when you go for the first time as a theme park enthusiast you have high expectations they were blown away you if i may quote you you may quote earlier you said it might just be my favorite theme park it actually might be because if you think about it on every level i've chilled it's so funny a friend of mine sent me a dm and was like how is it on an amusement park level and then how is it on a theme park level if that makes sense yes it makes total sense i was like that makes perfect sense so i guess my way that i differentiate it is like an amusement park is there to provide amusements provide thrills provide little experiences the pictures of the food looks so good i of course because we were in um pigeon forge there was a lot of restaurants with big pictures of food and so i said on the menu and i sent one to bill and i said the pictures of the food looks so good if you know you know you know you know you know you know um but basically you go and it has all of that like all of the rides are top-notch the food is great it's known for its cinnamon bread i gotta get you trying my favorite thing you know when something is so good that it gets a little song that you're moved to sing this was the song cinnamon bread it's all it is right now it's just cinnamon bread i do want you to share with everybody oh yeah the diva who sang at your hotel there was a diva who was singing at my hotel and by diva i mean 17 year old girl with a guitar a diva very in the spirit of dolly and let me just say the spirit of dollywood is very like hey do your talent tell your story i love that you know it's never it's never a bad thing to like get your get your boots on and get out there and tell your story literally and and do it from the heart oh and so this girl was giving her a song from the heart and we were we were sort of milling about the lobby like sort of experiencing there's so many cute props and dolly stuff like there's dolly's guitars songs that dolly has written um posted literally original lyrics posted around the hotel beautiful costumes etc and there was a girl singing and this was the melody of her song all night for an hour and a half this didn't change it was that all night on repeat and literally the next day i just did it because i had it my memory and melissa was like thank god you remembered it because now it has to be immortalized like we have to write that song you get you gotta admit it's a pretty good it's a pretty good run it's really good and just the word anymore like it's so final it says like whatever it is that you've discussed not anymore not anymore you know what i mean i don't feel that way anymore it it is it resolves something and it and on that lyric it resolves the melody yeah that's beautiful i mean the theme of the entire thing which makes it a really strong theme park to tie it back to that question the theme of dollywood is literally not just dolly parton but it's truly is goodness and kindness and storytelling the hospitality is incredible in every corner of the park the it's it's in and everywhere because dolly is kind of like the mickey mouse and the walt disney that's right she's everywhere and just seeing her reminds you right we're here because kindness we're kindness punks lady gaga was onto something with that absolutely um and we're here because someone followed their dream and came back and was able to then tell a story about where she came from in a really involving inclusive bright way and the thing that i would say was the most illuminating to me that i didn't know is they called her the dreamer in chief all of the rides and attractions are based on stories from her childhood even like the big roller coasters like if they're not directly inspired by something that she experienced or a story she was told by a family member or some fable from the town it's like a love letter to like the firefighters in the community who were able to save you know that area when they went through a devastating fire a couple decades ago you know it's just all very community focused and the way that sometimes other parks can like have this is our like down home area this is like frontier land etc this didn't feel like like a synthetic like simulated america heartland it felt like the actual thing yeah and i gotta say everyone was in the best mood everyone wore athleisure um which you think that's connected i i think that what they're in the best mood because they're in athleisure they they might well they're definitely comfy yeah you know what i mean it seems like you guys engaged with a lot of animals well it's the whole thing is about birds bread boobs and jesus you would love it yeah i love at least four of those things which one don't you like um birds no no no i i love birds i i love birds i know but the thing is birds in captivity well sure angry birds birds that would kill you if they could i was discussing this with melissa earlier you guys showed me a video of a really gorgeous owl with one eye this is shocking well and i do i vacillate so much on how i feel about owls they are both there are ones so majestic and beautiful and adorable and also what's the negative terrifying why are their heads so big how why is it turning 360 why like they could peck me to death at night all birds would would kill you if that's not true yes they would not not a beautiful little cardinal not a gorgeous little robin it's like it's like if the bird was big enough and had the ability to kill you 100 wouldn't think about it can't think about it is a bird i oh we'll tell you about the sign okay so so you also showed me a sign for um wings of america there's a bird showcase called wings of america we were so excited to see the wings of america bird show at dollywood it wherein lots of birds came out we got to learn about the bird and see them up close um there's a sign in the beginning that sort of tells you what to do and the last rule in like in bold with a period after every single word no it's serious do not look up with mouth open they never explained why the bird shit of course they it's so apparent is it about the bird shit yes i think i think it was because i think that i think that we we were thinking what it was was if you go like this it must be something some sign that like see like it must be some sort of like oh am i missing something no no i think i might have been missing something and you were right like maybe it was like a humorous thing the thing was it was presented in such a crazy way right emphatic like it was just like do not look up with mouth open like it's been an issue i know some gay guys who have tough time so dumb looking up at the sky looking up at me that's a line from old mary still running on broadway yes still going strong um but i think it's bird shit okay that's that's no making more sense to me because definitely the instinct i had was they don't want you looking up with your mouth open to the sky because of some sort of feeding thing but i don't know why i would personify myself as a bird in that you're not you're not a bird hunting the same thing damn bird i was of course thinking damn bird the whole time of course oh katrina would love it she would have well she actually doesn't like she has a very like the relationship between my mother and birds is one of great animosity a bird a bird attacked her well bird attacked her and took the bit this is where damn bird came from yes well no i you don't have to tell me but she claims this is something that happens to her all the time she's like the birds are out to get her for some reason i'm like well maybe you're just kind of at the beach a lot with a bagel you know what i mean i think hitchcock really birds should sue the the estate hitchcock the birds because of the because of the sort of reputation that the birds have earned you know they um uh you know tippy hedron that poor that poor girl that poor that poor deer that poor deer when they brought out dolly the red-tailed hawk there's a red-tailed hawk named dolly oh the only thing in its eyes was murder the only thing it was thinking was what can i kill and how fast it was crazy we would go up to it and it was just like oh really serious stuff they had turkey vultures ever heard of these girls i think i have i don't like those words we went back we saw a turkey vulture we're like okay like definitely serious went back came back to its to its cage it was facing the wall it was facing the wall it was in the back facing the wall like a horror film that's kind of funny a turkey vulture um i remember there was a a sort of an i don't know you want to call it an airy and aviary or whatever they came to our school in the fourth grade called they were called hawk quest yeah it was a bunch of really gorgeous elder lesbians coming with all these birds and i will never forget the way they call the birds which is come on come on come on come on it's a vocal stim come on come on yeah oh come on come on that now it's yours it feels really good placement come on come on come on come on come on is that a good resonator yeah is that a new is that your new um let's go i said no my new one is i've had it i've had it oh no you were telling me also it's settled you're doing it oh yeah no whenever anyone is unsure and i want them to do something now i just go it's settled well it's settled well it's settled my and i will i will sort of offer you my equivalent for years also has been um deborah wilson playing whitney houston uh in a sketch on mad tv and she goes i messed up i said fix it i said i said fix it just chatting to no one she's just like i said fix it i said fix it yeah i i like i've had it because it's what my mom used to say to me when i was very it's very i've had it it's very jen welch it's very it is very jen welch yeah god i hope we i hope jennifer welch has a reason to smile after this next oh she's doing great no she no i i i have to tell you like i'm thinking of everyone that's been that's been really like you know in the day in and day out of the election and it is time you guys like probably you can go vote you can go over you really messed up now now no one's gonna vote now now now they're really not gonna do it now they're gonna stay home this guy's messaging is terrible i'll be running for president that's why i went down to pigeon forge so i can connect with the real america they need to start to get to know me i know if i'm in a run tennessee's the new iowa tennessee is in play is in play well now i am curious are you hearing about this that like dolly's relatives are saying that like their voting machines kept switching to blackburn that's what they said they said i believe it was stella parton stella parton said who was the sister of dolly parton is like i had to tell them three times to allow me to vote again because i kept it kept changing to marcia blackburn and she said and i would never vote for her in my life must be tough to be marcia blackburn and know for a fact that dolly parton and taylor swift hate your fucking guts more than anything more than anything in the world it actually was interesting too because we were we were driving we got picked up by a car service yes local car service from the dollywood it's about an hour drive and we were talking to this man who's a veteran he has one leg and he you know he was just telling us in so many words what he thinks about things and he wasn't saying like republican talking points like he wasn't he was like yeah well you know if you ask me like he's like things things are really hard here because of how rough they are to the immigrants and he was like and a lot he he said obviously he's like an older white man a 72 year i feel like they really like aren't aren't thinking about the fact that like a lot of white folks like don't want to do these jobs that the immigrants were doing and so basically like you know them all getting chased out and stuff like it's really been hard for them and he was like you could just tell that there's like a lot more to everyone than just what the media would have us believe about everyone demographically and that is what frustrates me so much you're always going to have a sophisticated political opinion based on something that is around you and in your community then you are you're never going to be fed something sophisticated by anyone in the media establishment right period yeah and the roller coaster is ripped ripped love that when you when you when you say ripped you you mean business it's to the point where it's like are humans supposed to do that like you get off there's a there's a ride called lightning rod and we did it in the dark at night and this is the worst thing i've ever seen in my life i've ever seen in my life i've seen it in the woods woods like these are the great smokies you can't see anything and you are flying ripping through the sky the roller coaster is screaming at you and they're wooden so they're like really kooky kooky is not what you want to hear for it's not that's not the adjective you feel safe you know what i mean i have to say that i will say that was another thing about dollywood is it was like you you knew that everything was above board yes of course like really kind of they had their shit together in terms of the running of the rides and everything and everything was clean so that was all great i i genuinely am so i i want the food so bad i know she i know she made sure that the food was amazing you're gonna flip for this cinnamon bread i know we talked about travel well culture but now i'm wondering if we could have brought some back i don't know how does the song go cinnamon bread you can sing it all sorts of ways low high cinnamon bread cinnamon bread i'm gonna try one go ahead cinnamon bread you gave it a little extra on the i just kind of scooped every should the title of epi cinnamon bread um no i have another title okay and it leads us into this movie that we both saw this week speaking about the importance of your story being told yes oh yes honestly though no true i was thinking about how they connected in a weird odd way this ad is sponsored by veve health care time for some prep wisdom but first some common sense people everyone is different Well, not to be rude, but you're wrong. So dead wrong. And honestly, we're happy for you because now we get to tell you about Depop. You can find the fashion you love for less on Depop. And it doesn't matter what you're into. Leopard print? They've got it. Not into leopard print? First of all, why? But fine. They've got that too. Not leopard print. Basically, whatever your particular fashion situation is, Depop has entered the chat. We're talking over 600,000 daily listings, including celebrity and stylish shop drops. That's a lot of listings. And somehow it gets better. You can sell the stuff you no longer wear and make money. Then use that money to buy things you do want to wear. It's a circle, like the circle of life, but for fashion. And since fashion is life for a lot of people, samesies. Depop fashion, if it made sense. Make money. Run Depop with no selling fees and find what you want for less. Depop, love you. We're going to talk about La Bola Negra. Yeah. And all I have to say is, gay guys are so back. In a major way. Gay guys throughout time. Gay guys. You don't think about gay guys throughout time. You, there are people who do. Well, thank God the Javier's did. The Javier's, Los Javier's. Los Javier's. Los Javier's. We had the Daniels and now we have Los Javier's. Los Javier's. Who won, who won at Cannes for best director. They did. Very well deserved. Very well deserved. Oh my God. Did you, did you see Veneno? I have not seen Veneno. Fantastic. Yeah. If you loved, I mean, it's, it's so, it's so kind of the same sort of like thing of like nonlinear storytelling. It goes, it jumps back and forth through time. It's about like one person like investigating and uncovering this thing about like queer history in Spain. It's like. Just phenomenal. I am so, I loved this movie so fucking much. As did I. I thought it was really beautiful. It really haunted me for hours afterwards. Yes. I think about it now in terms of like, okay, so it's, it's basically telling three different stories. And then you've, over the course of the film, you find out how they're all connected and just in really mind blowing ways and ways that I'm still kind of making sense. I'm like, oh yeah, this happened because of that happened. And that, you know, it's just a really beautiful manifold. Thing. And, um, I just really love it on a level of like, we've, we're lucky. You and I are lucky enough to be in like a gay culture now, even internationally. I think I was saying this to someone like Jared or something. We were like, you kind of, you kind of realize gay guys are the same everywhere these days, which is both fun and also like, ah, like, and also, but then watching this movie, I go, gay guys have always been the same in a sense. But my thing about watching this movie is it's just a lot of long-term, long-term singing. It's just a lot of like forbidden love and lust and all these things and, and various moments or like love lost and mournful ways of like things being cut short and queer life being snuffed out. But it's like, I, gay guys are at their best when they're acting like lesbians. And I think that's what this movie is ultimately portraying. Well, when gay guys act like lesbians, they get out of their way, I think, to enjoy and be vulnerable and connect with one another. And I think that like, that was like, what was it? I mean, there's like a brush of a shoulder, I'm like, oh, that's so that's, that's lesbian, that's lesbian behavior. I know. And I mean that in the highest sort of regard. Well, I did feel that like in the film, like, um, you know, the present day story, like which Julio is in, Julio Torres is in this movie. I texted him afterwards. I was like, listen, I was like, this was so beautiful. And I wonder how much of it he knew was going to, because it's very, it's, it takes place in three different timelines. It's sort of, it's sort of gay guys. You're so right. You know what I mean? In almost in like a kind of really explicit way. Truly. But I was saying to Julio who takes, who, who acts in the, you know, modern storyline, I was like, did you know at all that this was going to be the epic that it was? Because it can really only be described as this beautiful epic love story, but it's also a war drama. There's also like musical elements to it. Magical realism. Yes. Magical realism. It's really beautiful. And it's what, the way I could best describe it, it is from the heart. It is a historical film that is from the heart for real. And it really has a beautiful message about, you know, how we as queer people and as gay men, like we really can take for granted even the idea that we can sit here and express ourselves at all. Right. Oh, you know what I mean? Like, cause now I was going to say like, Oh, sorry. No, no, no. But just quickly, I want to say like now I just feel like it's, the sort of like cynicism of gay cis men, let's just say, has sort of like gotten to me where I'm like, yeah, we're all kind of annoying, aren't we? But then what I, what I think the film is about is that like the continuity in, in terms of like gay history, let's say, or just queer history. Cause I think there are just in general, there's like a, there's like an overarching queerness about this, even though it's about gay men mostly, but there's Penelope Cruz's character says like, uh, transvestice, uh, transvestitism is the fantasy of the impossible war is the complete opposite. Yes. It's like, this is about queerness as a way of thinking. And it's like, but what, what like kind of binds like all these different stories together. And I think it's still, it follows me into the, the modern era is like, shame is like the continuous thing that gay men have even today, even when we're like, we're really able to, able to live openly. It's like, we're awful to each other sometimes because that comes from some sort of self-hatred or some insecurity it's like it that is the thing and i don't think that's necessarily i mean it's obviously a bad destructive thing but i think that's also a beautiful thing it's like oh because it brought i don't know about how you felt but i watched the movie and i was like and i've been thinking about this a lot recently of like all the ways i've all the times i felt so shitty and ashamed especially growing up being gay like just there's stories throughout this movie about like young young men being bullied to death essentially you don't necessarily see it um but there's just so many stories about like the fear um and being in the closet and i took i took that for granted in myself which is crazy like i forgot how that felt yes i think that like it's really interesting um because we i think are in a generation that experienced all of that you know what i mean like i think that and obviously we all have varying degrees of this within our generation you know what i mean my experience is not your experience but i think that we what we do share is that we grew up and were born into a world that was still very much on the other side of the issue of whether or not we should be treated with our full humanity very much on the other side of it it is now and it was almost like i always use this example but when we were 11 and 12 years old eminem was on the radio saying faggot and then when we were 18 19 suddenly politicians you know like barack obama himself who had been saying things like marriage is between a man and a woman needed to give him credit joe biden to go on a late night show to say i disagree and then bring it to the other side and it felt like all of a sudden there we were in our 20s coming out and saying this thing about ourselves because the world has kind of decided actually maybe we were wrong about this thing but there's still no antidote to the way we were programmed to feel exactly and so we're in this interesting position as a generation that had all of the same types of limitations and emotional stressors and the grief that you have to go through to let go of these dreams you may have had for yourself and yet we are still asked to kind of like live normally now like you got everything you wanted you have equal rights what do you mean like you even have gay pop stars look at all this gay tv you know what i mean and it's like right right like we definitely we've definitely come a long way but i still have this very thing you're talking about shame i still have to heal how especially when you look around at each other and we're not interested in helping each other all the time and i'm saying what the movie taught me was that like the shame is like the common thread and the shame is not necessarily like it doesn't have to be a deleterious thing like i can like relate to most queer people even even a younger generation that had to that didn't experience it quite as much i don't resent them for that at all but i can relate to them in the shame that they feel now where oh i'm sure you do feel a certain way about your queer identity or you do feel like it's not conforming to some new standard now it's all about the way that like politically things bear down on these people it's about so it takes place in spain um during the spanish during the spanish civil war in one timeline in one timeline uh and then during like republican era pre-spanish civil war spain in another that then kind of develops into something else in a surprising way and um and ironically like in that sort of pre-spanish civil war era when it was more democratic before spain was fascist like there was still there was still that stigma um and like i and it's about this one person wanting some kind of institutional acceptance yeah from this place and we're speaking vagaries it's so worth just going in blind i think um it's even hard to describe which i love about some films well it's it is non-linear yeah i would say this is a slam dunk for adapted screenplay there is no there is no way around that i don't think it is ingeniously constructed yes and i love discovering new filmmakers and new talent and new talent people i mean there's like seven or eight people you've never heard of giving brilliant performances my favorite of which i'll get to in a second but the thing that is so beautiful about it is i think it really illustrates the difference between what a gay life can look like for example there's like one scene in the modern timeline where gay characters are just on grinder able to find sex whenever they want it and then they have very empty like sort of like you know excuse my language but sort of come dump sex yeah yeah meanwhile you go back decades to the 30s when this is happening during the spanish civil war and it's like these men are in so much pain because all they want to do is really reach out and touch each other and they don't even know why or what that means and it's just just my favorite performance in this film and i think he should be nominated for supporting actor is guitarica de la fuente he is his face will haunt me his eyes like his eyes he is just like a beautiful screen presence and he's a popular singer yes and he's able to hold so much and it's a very physical performance he sings the song la nieve which is very beautiful in the film um i'm sure that that would get a nomination for best i think they're saying that it may even be the front runner it was like a really just like beautiful performance of it it was so stressful and so i i just would imagine that it's like a really tough thing to live in and in contrast with the other the other you know characters that are that are kind of experiencing different worlds and different influences i just thought it was really beautiful the movie looked amazing 35 millimeter yeah i saw it at the paris theater oh fabulous 35 mil and um physical media it's a movie by physical media honestly though honestly though this movie is full out like a story that doesn't get told unless there's passion to tell it and real work behind the scenes because it's obviously based on the works of lorca yes and um the like you know the one play that uh la bola negra la bola negra that was um never published there was there were four pages found uh it was going to be this historic play where it was his first gay protagonist yes explicitly gay protagonist yeah um but i think you also come for come for the queer history stay for glenn close speaking spanish glenn close isn't is in the movie suddenly and you're like oh my god we love glenn and we need it and oh you know what she and she and this is not a spoiler but she does what i hope every actor gets to do including us oh i know what you're gonna say pouring over pages being like so this so this is what was written just like just adjusting your glasses in like a dimly lit library being like so this was the yes and i i want to do that she goes she goes this is his handwriting and he and the other character goes i think it is she goes it's his handwriting why did he give this to you why do you think he wanted to hide la bola negra and then i thought you were gonna say this at one point like glenn close like finishes reading what she's reading and then she goes oh reader i walked away and came back to the table and that was phenomenal and she gets to say this this amazing word a beautiful word i think that's the better version that's i i hope we can do like the macaronic language and just say homosexuality dad what about homosexuality dad e cinnamon bread really good homosexuality and cinnamon bread um i also just i do want to shout out to penelope oh my god and by the way this is why you have the casting oscar yes yes this movie is new talent meaning go you have some new talent you have some new talent you have some new talent you have some someone who is like went out and found this unbelievable talent who will definitely work and then also in the role of like the spanish diva who comes to entertain the troops because they also had this like similar to the uso yeah you know what i mean where you'd have like you know performers go perform for the troops they have this diva come and perform for the troops and it's played by penelope cruz which is so meaningful in a meta way too because she is the spanish icon you know what i mean like for this culture it is so perfect and you also see that she knows the responsibility because the way they frame her in that shot where she's about to go down the stairs and she says transsexuality is the um is the is the fantasy of the impossible yeah and war is the opposite yeah she knows that the power that that line holds especially coming from her she knows what a queer icon she is she knows that she is able to hold a power she knows the importance of the role in the film and the importance of that line and the and those hobbies being so inspired by almodovar it's like it's it's all yes so clear and to be honest with you like so the buzz on her the word on the street for this oscar season is that they've changed the rules so that you can earn two nominations in an acting category if you get enough votes and almost everyone has predicted that penelope cruz will earn two nominations for the invite and la bola negra because the supporting actress category is a little strange this year because it feels like they have preordained it for anne hathaway to win just based on the odyssey being the odyssey i think they want to make sure it wins something and and this has been a watershed year she has been had the most incredible year and she's fantastic in it um but then the rest of the list is like samantha morton in the odyssey and penelope cruz twice fun and then now that i think we can say it now amanda cyphered is fully in the supporting actress conversation in a way that people are really getting behind it could be a very strange year in supporting actress i love strange i love we haven't really talked about it but i love the invite and penelope cruz is fantastic in that and if she got two nominations work work i would i would be in support any any any learnings about how gay guys should move forward i think you guys need to literally love each other more i think so and that was my thing that i left with i was just like i don't know i don't know i don't know i don't know so the last line of the film i won't say what it is because i actually think it's rare that the last line of a movie actually takes your breath away and you really realize in that moment what the true impact and meaning of what you've seen i left the movie and i literally like i didn't want to be crying on the subway but i had like my eyes were full of tears on the subway as it like kind of hit me it was gnawing at me it was like wow it the movie leaves me with tears and it leaves you wanting to be a more loving more positive force in the world and i think that's a good thing i think it's a great thing i think um if you're part of a snark community and you're a gay guy like you're beyond saving i'm so sorry i don't think you're beyond saving but i do think where there is snark there can be love and it's It's rule of culture number 10. Where there is snark, there can be love. Just remember that. Just remember that when you rate us on iTunes. iTunes? When you rate us on Apple iTunes. Is it Apple or iTunes? It's Apple Podcast. Oh, so iTunes does not exist anymore? The iTunes store exists if you want to pay per song. And sometimes that is kind of the only way. Well, if you're a gay guy that cares about the charts, you can do a lot of damage if you're willing to spend $0.99 on a song. $1.29 or whatever. Well, all you gay guys that are upset that Olivia and Chapel debuted at number three and Tate McRae debuted at number two, you obviously are, the Tate fans are outbuying you. Oh. Spend that dollar. Literally, honestly, the country people are spending the dollar to support Ella McBoots. What's her name? Ella. Ella Langley. Ella Langley. Ella McBoots. Ella McBoots. Well, Ella McBoots is kind of like what she, you know what I mean? For sure. Time for some prep wisdom. But first, some common sense, people. Everyone is different. Every one. Yes, even you. Yes, even your situationship. Especially your situationship. And just like people, injectable prep options, not all the same. That's why you need to talk to your doctor and know what to ask. So here's some prep wisdom. Did you know there's more to consider? There's more to consider about long-acting injectable prep options and how often you get it. Also, why you want to take it matters. Your routine. Your chaos level. Your I-might-forget-my-own-birthday energy. All of it counts. Ask the questions. It's allowed. Encouraged, even. No? Don't worry. Okay, readers. We got to discuss it. Vacation. That's not just a vacation. It's a statement. Virgin voyages. Adults only. Yes. A child-free sanctuary at sea. It's giving, I deserve this. And the awards. At this point, it's less award-winning cruise line and more, do we just engrave their name on the trophy? Slay of the sea, excellence in poolside looks, outstanding achievement in top deck behavior. Over 20 eateries, epic entertainment, fitness classes, Wi-Fi all included, luxury without the nickel and diming. Virgin voyages. Leopard print, they've got it. Not into leopard print, first of all, why? But fine. Not leopard print. We're talking over 600,000 daily listings, including celebrity and stylist shop drops. And since fashion is life for a lot of people, same-sies. Make money on Depop with no selling fees and find what you want for less. Depop, love you. Let's see. Survivor thoughts? Ooh! I think the season's gotten crazy officially. Okay, so I'm watching it. I'm watching the last episode. And mind you, this means two weeks ago. It's the episode where they forced. They forced. Kilby and Lewis forced them to vote Linnea out because they threatened them with going to rocks. Because they. They threatened with going to rocks because Kilby and Lewis both had an extra vote. Because of Maggie. Because of Maggie who. Maggie, I'm having a tough time with. She's running the show. I'm voting for Maggie. I said rooting and voting at the same time. And it said vooting. I can't vote in Survivor. Yeah. So I don't know why I would say that. You've been watching the show a long time. Well, wait, why is she tough for you? She goes ad hominem with people. She goes, I don't like her voice. Meanwhile, Maggie, listen to yourself. I don't know. She didn't say that, but she intimated something. Does she? I don't know. She said something about someone. She was like. I think she didn't like. Oh, it was about Linnea. It was about Linnea. I was a Linnea fan too. I was a Linnea fan. When Maggie was like, you got to get out, Linnea. I was like, oh no. There's a lot of. I guess this is fine. There's so many people who have fixations this season. Devin was fixated on Jenna in a way that I was like, what is this about? Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's the cool girl thing. I feel like they're all now very aware of the fact that the most powerful player in Survivor is the cool girl. Yeah, but I don't know that that's been true the last several seasons. The winners don't end up being the cool girls. They do. Rachel was like. You know what? I guess what I mean. Here's what I mean by cool girl. Yeah. Obviously intelligent. Yes. But socially malleable young women have been dominating the new era. Right. And I think someone like Pat, someone like Linnea, someone like. They've all been female. Jenna. Someone like, what's her face, who had the. I believe it's Tracy, Stacy. She had the drug problem. She was also very cool. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Amber. Yeah, you know who I'm talking about. I know who you're talking about. She actually had the vocal. I liked the vocal fry on her. Me too. Yeah. And I'm just saying, it's like they all are like. It's almost like when they sort of decided to turn on like the alpha male, that's now happening with like the cerebral young woman. All of the eliminations have been women. All. So, sorry, Jelly. You're part of that. Well, I think that Jelly. Jelly has been getting an incredible edit from episode one. Redemptive. And she actually was my winner choice from episode one. And I also think that them planting. them planting the seed that Devin is in her way will pay off. Oh, yes, yes, it will pay off. I'm ready for Jelly. Because Devin, he can't go much further than. No. It's become too much. Like, the crying was too much. Yes. I like Devin as a screen presence. I like him as a contestant. But I wonder how much he can have left in the tank to take this the rest of the way. It's too many things. Like, we haven't swung out of getting the alpha males out. Yeah. Like, there's still residual of that where it's like Devin and Brady are, like, kind of on the outs. Well, he's sort of trying to play like I'm everyone's best friend. And when that is not true. No. You can't take that very far. Verifiably, people. Like, multiple people are like, no, like, that you're not going to win. He's also, like, such an actor. Yes. Like, and I respect. Like, you know what I mean? Like, he's working what he has. And he's working the camera. And he's working the camera and doing his thing. He's got amazing confessionals. I just think he. Go for it. Go for it. Go for it. Go for it. He unfortunately. And I was right about this with Michael Foote on Traitors who was out exactly when I said he would be. I'm going to give Devin two or three more episodes. Okay. Yeah. That seems right. I'm still rooting for Sharonda. Me too. I love Ori, my king. Yeah, he's hot. Stunning. Well, whatever. Also, my crush is Carter. Oh, you like Carter? I don't get it. Why do you like Carter? That's okay. More for me. There's something about his, like. There's something about his, like, little, like, light goon face. Like, you know, goon. I. I will say, everyone, you know, there's a lot of people on the Kilby hate train. I just thank God we have, like, an honest-to-God villain. And also, like, that was an iconic move. That was iconic. Like, I hated every second of watching it because I'm like, oh, my God. Like, I don't. I'm not rooting for this person, but it's become clear that had that gone any other way, it was the best move they could have made. It was an amazing. I haven't seen it done. I've never. Well, no, that was historic. And I. The only thing that annoyed me was that, like, they kept digging. Both of them kept digging into misspelling Linnea's name in a crazy. I was like, you guys. Yeah, was that on purpose? I think by the end, it was like, L-A-N-A-Y-A-A-H-A-I. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You guys, you guys, you guys. Have some tact. There is a way that they're going about it. Yeah. Which reminds me of, like, playing with kids when I was little and, like, someone just, like, breaking the rules just because. Well, you know, I think. This is why I value, like, our improv training. It's that we had to share a lot of space with this kind of guy. 100%. And I know, I know how they think. And girl. I know how these people think. Yeah. I would even identify as those people in some ways. Well, we had to learn their language. Exactly. And now I'm like, I think I've gotten some distance now where I can. Where I get to be, like, cut it out. Yeah. Hey, nerd. Hey. Sit. It's kind of. It's enough. kind of stupid it's enough it's enough we heard you the first eight times you know what i mean like him getting up to like skip to the thing i was like i know this is gonna entertain like half the fans but i am in the other half no no i'm in the other half unfortunately i have been excited to see what i would call a hot cast yeah sure i think this cast is the best i think they took a few notes and one one note that i had was where are the villains mm-hmm kilby and it feels like they got we got some yeah and i want eye candy i do and we got some great icons some real good stuff some great stuff um you haven't watched potomac i haven't watched potomac i really can't i'm gonna watch for karen and stacy and wendy i you might like this season okay because they are all coming for giselle thank god even robin rob this is not that i'm watching like so basically like robin's come back as as the friend right and you can tell that robin's come back as the friend robin's doesn't want a green eye band today well i think robin comes back and she's like i think that when you're on the show you lose sight of real life she says to giselle and ashley who are up to their bullshit in ways that are at this point like you have to laugh because it's like at a certain point neither of those two have scruples they don't claim well i think now it's kind of like we're we're seeing now that that is so evident because every single person there is at their hands of like oh you say one thing and then you completely do another it's a brown one thing too yeah it is but my thing is like with giselle robin has come back a couple times now i've been like no giselle you did this god bless giselle said this this came from giselle and what i really loved about robin was she came back and she had a lunch with wendy and she was like and wendy was like the way you guys talk about me on your podcast is crazy and robin was like well if it's a good podcast i'm gonna do it and i'm gonna do it and i'm gonna do it and i'm gonna do it and then robin was like but it's the way we talk about it i understand and then wendy was like yeah whereas like giselle keeps kind of pulling wendy to the side to act like her friend and ask her for advice on like all this stuff and then keeps calling her a scammer like like and even if even if it's true or not or whatever but it is just like giselle brian ashley darby are just completely incorrigible in all of their work worst qualities it's we're not seeing them evolve and you know what's wild is it's like when someone tells you they're evolving it's like they get to that stage where it's like i'm healing i'm evolving the lady doth protest too much whitney rose also does this yeah whitney rose is constantly like you have to forgive me because i'm healing and like then you get to the point where it's like okay no no you're not you're not you know what i respected about karen karen on this episode was like i'm on my way to therapy and the cameras are not coming yeah love that love that and she's like because if i'm actually working through this i can't do it with you guys there so no and i was like guess who would bring her camera into her therapy sessions all the fucking time giselle brian big time big time you can't lie to the audience this 11 years in that's a scam that's a scam honestly you're the it's like you know her having separate legal counsel from eddie it's tough it's tough and all that means is ultimately they're in it for themselves that's that's a lot people are like what do you think that means i'm like oh it means that oh if push comes to shove yeah they will incriminate each other that's what that means otherwise you would not have separately the only reason to have your own lawyer is so that person can work in your individual best interest that's that's the only reason to separate accountability or whatever like the charges as much as possible and what i'm getting from her is you know it's been really interesting it's like it's different with wendy from other people um going through legal stuff on the show because these other women are like sort of like i didn't do it like they're sort of i had no idea i had no idea etc what i see with wendy is deep disappointment shame i've yes i think that like for someone who's like actually really smart and actually like very proudly represented their culture and very very like always tried like her very best to appear as a a plus version of herself for her to be attached to this now is like deeply disappointing and shameful like you said and it's it's and she's you'll see she's not fighting um oh that's sad i mean it's um in terms of her self-narrative as a nigerian woman it's like there's this respectability trap that a lot of immigrant families kind of fall into where it's like it just has to be about growth and acquiring the next thing and it's like oh like that's that's you're just gonna you gotta break i was really happy to see though in the second episode her mother is there and very present and it looks like they're doing really well together because i was worried about that i was like oh gosh i wonder what happens to the relationship with her mom who you know freaked the fuck out when wendy quit her job as a professor you know like how how can this i know land with that but then i guess at a certain point it's like survival instincts kick in and honestly i'm happy that hers kicked in and like a way where she was able to think of herself as this person's mother first and not like because i know it's it's difficult in very strict cultures where your your children are supposed to be a certain thing certainly criminal is not one of them i want to be in a culture where it's encouraged yeah criminal culture criminal culture where where is the culture where criminality is encouraged new jersey sure that's coming back december oh you don't really care about jersey i do i i'm i i am going to be watching because they melissa has her arm on theresa and those like this like they were me and you taking pictures for the new last coach um thumbnail amazing um we looked like to melissa and theresa you were giving melissa and theresa what do you think of glee coming back um there's a lot of discourse around whether it was a good show well isn't it fascinating because it's like people are really wanting this back and i'm like you remember the thing about this that you hated the the thing about this that is gonna come back on our screens is millennial cringe exactly like this show defined millennial cringe so if they bring back glee and it's a huge hit that's it it's over millennials did win if glee if glee comes back and it's a hit and everyone's super excited gen z can't say shit ever again millennials won same with girls i mean you it's over for them if girls and glee come back and are like restored to cultural prominence jay-z gen z failed well what do you think about chris fulming said this on a podcast recently he was like the slur of millennial kind of came out of this like earnestness obviously but he was just like you can never you can never be too cute with that i mean and he goes he kind of pinned it on zoe de chanel he was like zoe de chanel did a lot of damage which i don't think is i don't think i think is really fair i think the whole industrial complex around like quirkiness was what kind of like harpooned us yeah i think it had a lot more to do with an optimism yes around because that optimism ended up being so wrong when you look back and it's like wow we really that's kind of bleak to know how far that nose dived someone just looking someone in the eyes and saying singing like like leah michelle leah michelle singing um take a bow by rihanna you look so dumb right now like leah michelle looking into adina menzel's eyes for some reason singing poker face a song about being bisexual yeah when she finds out that adina is her mom yeah explain any of it explain how it fits into culture now you i know how it does i'm ready for glee i will be watching for glee and if you don't cast me and bowen as substitute teachers who sing take me or leave me from rent it's over like like we will we we will we will burn the show down give us what we deserve it's just so fascinating because even when the ben platt diet pepsi came out right yeah everyone's like oh my god bring back glee it's like you guys and i was like you guys tore it to shreds you hated glee i mean there are there are some like you could do like azar larson oh 100 no it's gonna be i mean i mean leah michelle is i'm sure she's already practicing good luck babe and yeah yeah by olivia rodrigo oh please the good luck babe that is that is performed on glee just like let us do it because you know it's gonna be mr shu mr shu's gonna do good luck babe like yes hey mr shu is gonna sing Good luck, babe, to Lea Michele, who's going to run the Glee Club. He's going, good luck, babe. Good luck, babe. That's really good. You have. He's going to give the whole thing. I think they just need to make every episode of this Glee reboot just to repeat in concept of that episode in the first season when Mr. Shu made them all do mashups. Love. Walking on sunshine into Halo. I mean, talk about shame. Do you want to know why I stopped watching Glee the first time? Because Kurt singing Kurt's turn was too much for me. I was like, I can't. And maybe that means that it was just too early for the culture because they did some gay shit and I was like, I can't. I have to turn it off. It's too much for me. It's too much. And now looking back, I'm like, sure. Was he singing everything's coming up Kurt? It's not even enough syllables. It didn't matter. Nothing mattered. Nothing mattered on Glee. Here's what you missed on Glee. Nothing mattered. That's rule of culture number 30. Nothing mattered. It was like a spaceship could land. And Lea Michele would be like, huh? Glee Project. Yeah, of course. The Glee Project. Glee Project gave you Tony winners. Of course. Alex Newell. Someone else. They've got a Tony. We can't name him, but at least, hey, at least they've got a Tony. Yeah. I mean, what I'm saying is a spaceship could land and Lea Michele could walk up and a woman comes out and Lea Michele could say, Papa. And we'd be like, yep, Lea Michele's father was an alien who had sex with Lea Michele. And that's why Lea can sing. And they sing stateside. Especially the Dinamon Zell, rather. And they sing stateside to each other. Exactly. They sing stateside. And it makes no fucking sense. Oh, please. Okay. Let's dream up, dream up. We've done a couple here, but what's the, now that Glee is returning, or should we just be our top five? Oh, that's interesting. Every one. Everyone. Yes. Even you. Yes. Even your situationship. Did you know there's more to consider about long-acting injectable prep options than how often you get it? Your routine. Your chaos level. Your, I might forget my own birthday energy. All of it counts. Ask the questions. It's allowed. Encouraged, even. Okay. Did you write all that down? No? Don't worry. Okay, readers. We got to discuss a vacation that's not just a vacation. It's a statement. Virgin voyages. Adults only. Yes. They're sailing the Caribbean. The Mediterranean, obviously. But now they've added the West Coast and Alaska. And the awards. They've won so many travel awards, the ships might sweep our culture awards. Slay of the sea. Over 20 eateries. Epic entertainment. Fitness classes. Wi-Fi. All included. Virgin voyages. Say it with me. Virginvoyages.com. You probably think dressing well takes lots of money. Or lots of time spent digging through thrift stores. So dead wrong. And honestly, we're happy. Because now we get to tell you about Depop. Leopard print? They've got it. First of all, why? But fine. Not leopard print. You can sell the stuff you know best. No longer wear and make money. And since fashion is life for a lot of people. Samesies. Depop, love you. Well, quickly, thoughts on Jay-Z doing the Super Bowl. Well, I mean, I'm not like a Jay-Z super fan. I always prefer when a pop girl gets the Super Bowl. But in a world where I think he can choose to do it any time because he runs the Super Bowl halftime show, there's got to be a reason why he's doing it. And I think that reason has to do with either Beyonce or Rihanna. Announcing new things. That's really interesting. I hadn't thought of the Rihanna of it all. I just feel like I, as someone who wants to protect my mental health, am not going to assume any music from Rihanna because I just I don't want to be disappointed. No, no, no. We were just talking about, like, listening to anti again. Like, I listen to anti again just because and it's such a masterpiece. What she has inside her is so brilliant that I can't wait for it. Whereas Beyonce, we know it's just a matter of time. Yeah. Word on the street I heard is that they still feel they don't have enough songs. That's just what I heard out on the streets. And we say, take your time. There's always a built in opportunity for her to say we have enough. And now's the time. She has all the infrastructure to announce something whenever she feels it's ready. Correct. Yeah. Like the Easter eggs of her looking rock are that like she's not we don't have to wonder what's coming next. It's just when it's ready and when she feels it's time to unleash the beast. Because when the beast is unleashed, like we usually get a lot of information. And I think we saw with the Cowboy Carter of it all with there being like two different vinyl covers and a couple of different titles, it felt like a lot was changed or added at the last second that maybe felt a little unclear from her end. Like the execution of it sort of got like the wires kind of got a little bit crossed. But yes, things were taken out or put in. Yes. Yeah. Like whole vinyls for sale that didn't have the whole album. Didn't have spaghetti. Right. Yeah. Like there was there was things about it that didn't feel like like in the way that we've come to. What's interesting, because she established herself as someone who was like, I can release, I can unleash and release a word I'm calling release. I can release a fully realized rollout plan and album and concept and whole theme and era, if you will, all at once come to expect this from me. Well, she's made that expectation because it's all come at once. And then with Cowboy Carter, it was like a little different. It was like, oh, this is like it feels like it's taking different forms. And she's also able to say, well, yeah, the messiness is the point and walk away from it. Totally. But I think maybe you're right. Like with the with the little glitch in the Cowboy Carter rollout and with the car being sort of broken into and having things get stolen. Yeah. And I was bringing up the fact that this is act three of three. Yeah, this is there is something final about the finality. Of this. Yeah, she had it has to be. Everything has to be completely squared away. Yeah. So then I say take your time. I mean, but but part of it. And so thought about what it must feel like to be what it must feel like to be Jay-Z. Can you imagine like to announce you're doing the Super Bowl and then everyone's like Beyonce? Well, no. And I brought this and I brought this up. Like, if you look at Jay-Z's top songs on streaming, they're all. Either he's featured or he has a feature on. Yeah. Either he's he he has hits that are, you know, his verse or or if he's holding the center of the song, plus like a soaring melody by an amazing vocalist. Yeah. So like I was saying, like, this is going to be a very special Super Bowl where it's going to be guests galore at the Wazoo, because where is the Super Bowl this year? Couldn't tell you. L.A. It's in L.A. Got it. So then Empire State of Mind, we don't think we'll have. Well, no, he has to reference New York. It's where he's from. I think that we got to have him got. Yeah, we're going to we're going to get like your big pimpins and like his song. Yeah. But I think the rest of them, it's like you got like the big hits are the big hits. And those have usually typically have like a female vocal on them. Him doing it in L.A. is kind of fascinating. It's kind of it's kind of interesting because he's so New York. The same year that Tupac's murder gets thrown in jail. OK, that really happened in jail. He was convicted. Wow. Yeah. So lots sort of I mean, I hope I hope Biggie and Tupac are. Remember Lil' Kim's episode of Tyler Henry Hollywood Medium? And he goes, do you have any questions about Biggie? And then she goes, well, I think everyone will want to know who killed him. And then it went to commercial. I was like, can't do that. A real person is dead. Like, well, I think everyone want to know who killed him. After this on E, we're going to like. No. We're not finding. Finding out on E who killed Biggie, it's rule of culture six we're not gonna find out on e who killed biggie no to do that you have to go watch one of the diddy documentaries spoiler alert it was someone they knew yeah that's true right i mean that's what tyler henry hollywood medium said i'm spoiling both the little killing episode of tyler tyler henry hollywood medium and the diddy documentary documentary okay top five what's what's the top five things modern things you want to see on glee oh yeah great from the glee reboot okay so how about you start on five okay number five i want to see all of the girls do nicole kidman by adela i want to see them all feel like different kinds of nicoles every single night just jenna ushkowitz come out and she's like um dr chase moradian yes and then like leah michelle comes out and of course she's satine you know what i mean like and it's a whole thing about like whether or not she's satine or one of the other girls is sitting and then leah wants to be virginia wolf well the thing is like she and she can't have it all yeah so who ends up being virginia wolf is mercedes oh mercedes and mercedes slays as virginia of course she always does and then diana agron if we can book her is of course um the undoing the undoing the other most iconic big green peacoat yeah exactly and then sue sylvester comes in and like what are you guys doing and that's how sue sees it and she is she is um tom cruise she's um she's tom cruise oh that's great she comes in a size high tom cruise and is like hey all you nicoles okay number four that's before i want to see i want to see kurt do attempt to do the white lotus theme song i want this to be a crossover white lotus glee reboot a glee boot episode glee boot um are they calling it
