Let's go on the journey. For the Ride Heritage Collection. How do these things stay in the air? I do my makeup being somebody else's guy. We ordered different drinks at the same bar. I said that to, did I say that to Edward recently? Whoa Edward it's like five seconds and I got Eddie on the brain. I think it's a good thing. I think we, he wanted to order a different drink and I said we order different drinks at the same bar. At the same bar. Which you can do with friends. You can do with friends. You can do with strangers. That's what's cool about it. Well, that was a huge hint of what I'm writing for today. I think in a huge way. But don't say it yet. But I can't say it yet. Don't say it yet. Well, they never read the title. It's breadcrumb. That's what I love about the don't say it. Like, we don't want to spoil it. It's like in the title. We could have done like cryptic titles if we really wanted to. We could have named the episodes like a little wink, a little nod to the pod. It's so hard to go back to your favorites. I know. That would be crazy. Yeah. They're listening to these episodes up to five to ten times. Well, what's funny is on the Reddit, a lot of the posts are like, does anyone remember the episode where blank? But we could never have known what that moment would have been to include in the description because sometimes we just don't, we just don't know. I can't imagine what they're saying. Do you know when, when they said Taika and Nantaika back and forth for five minutes? Was that, which episode was that? Someone did comment on the TikTok. I've been reading the comments more lately and trying to like, you know, just see what the conversation is. It reminds me of this Gossip Girl ad campaign where for the first poster of Gossip Girl when it was in like Seventeen magazine, it said, you're nobody until you're talked about. I still say that to people. You do. I've seen you say it to people. I told my parents that this week. That's also a little bit of an Easter egg for what's to come. Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh, I'm just doing James Charles. Someone, don't do that again. Don't do that again. Someone, someone commented, can someone please explain Taika and Faita to me? Yeah. I've done so much research and I've done the work and I still don't know what it means. I can't imagine. May I refer you to the Encyclopedia of Ride, which we did at the end of the year, last year? Yeah. That's really a table of contents and it's a glossary and it's a bibliography in a lot of ways. The amount of stone-faced straight men at dinners with us as we describe Taika and Faita, they're like, their minds, one of them's just going to drop dead. Their faces, their forehead's just going to hit the platter. Yeah. Eyes roll back into their heads. Oh, yeah. That sort of brings me to what you had said you wanted to discuss in the opening today, which was, I don't want to take it from you. Axe throwing. So, I just, I just think we've lost the plot. Here's my thing. I just can't, I've done it once. That's a shock to me. I'll never do it again. Well, it was kind of at the dawn of it. Allow me to process. No, take a sec. When was this? This was in like 2017, I would say. Okay. We hadn't met yet. What was the dawn? Of axe throwing, as we know it. It's just like, what? I was laughing to myself thinking if I had to date, like if that's, I only took my dates to axe throwing. I was like, yeah, do you want to like go axe throwing? God, I mean, it's not a good place for people with intrusive thoughts. Let's just say that. I would say a nightmare. It's a total hellscape. I just think it's so funny that it exists and that it's everywhere. It's like where fro-yo place is closed, axe throwing filled in, and that pisses me off, obviously, because, you know, I'm a fro-yo head. And on that note, the Tough Mudder participant to bring your girl on a date, axe throwing pipeline, once again, linear. No better place to show off for your girl than axe throwing. My arms look so good, dude. Look at this. I just love hitting a bullseye. Like, God, it's weird. I think I did throw one of them. I am built like a brick shithouse right now, so I feel like I could really let one of those rock. But I did one time and it hit the wall and kind of came back a little bit. And that's where I'm like, no, no, no, I can't do this. I guess also, like, I've seen it sort of, like, marketed as like, oh, bring your team here for like a team building thing, like at your company where you work. Like, I don't want to throw weapons around with my coworkers. No, I don't want to be at axe throwing where, like, a bunch of guys who work at VaynerMedia are at. You know what I mean? Like, that's not cool for me. No, I don't want to see their clothes. I don't want to hear what they're talking about. Warby Parker Corporate is throwing axes. Oh, for sure. Go to a gun range like men. Do that. No women allowed, kid. Come on. It's guys only. That, too. I don't know. I don't know. I don't think, oh, I don't know. Maybe that gets it out of their system. I know there's all these things that are like, come trash a room and like, yeah. Why is it in their system? Come just beat the shit out of somebody. But why is it in their system? I don't know. And I mean this from a purely scientific standpoint, because as you know, I'm a data scientist. I need to see the breakdown demographically of like, who has time for that? Because I do feel like white people have more time to waste, generally speaking. Well, you have that great joke where you go, where straight men wake up with all their rights. So then they have time to look up the population of cities. I want to go get locked up in a room. I'm good. I'm okay on that. No, I'm good. I'm okay. Women are like. Mm-mm. I sort of spent my whole life trying to avoid being locked in a room. Yes, literally. So the idea of paying to do it and having to solve riddles and stuff. This is so cool. People have always asked us, what do we die for? And we're all about positivity. But I think today, actually, I die for escape rooms and axe throwing. But you might catch me at both on accident. Because straight men are just like, what should we do tonight? Should we go to an escape room? And I'm like, or we could see a fucking movie. Come on, dude. Or we could just hang out and talk. Someone told me this week something about, oh, Kortian. He is in every episode now. He is an era for us. Yeah. In a lot of ways. And people will get it once the show comes out. Of course. Like, why? This week, he goes, overcompensating is kind of for cinephiles, too. He's like, Terry. You might be pissed. Terry's furious. Terry, like. He's in the edit, like, cut this, cut this, cut this reference. He throws an axe at our Roku TV. Not Roku City. Not Roku City. He's Godzilla to that city, sis. The first violent crime to happen to Roku City. Oh, my God. Is what Terry's doing. Terry's watching overcompensating. I wish there was crime that you could see happening in the city. Like, burglaries. Like, you know. Well, it's a f**k. Crime is a social issue. I learned that this year. Maybe last year. Like, dear media, clip that. Clip that. So, maybe in Roku City, they have, like, universal wage and universal health care. Because if we had things like that, like, a lot of minor adjustments to the way our society works and where taxes go and who's taxed and whatnot, we could probably eliminate crime in a huge way. Do you remember? I would love, like, little Easter eggs planted in Roku City. Kind of like, do you remember the folklore of, like, that guy who got fired from Disney? So, he put a penis on the priest in The Little Mermaid. He wrote sex in the air in Lion King. But those are real. No, I know. They're there. And Aladdin, my favorite is Aladdin. Every, 365. I like lyrics and I'm, I'm just a sucker for good lyrics. Oh, and this just has so many good ones. Like, well, summer slipped us underneath our days and nights. I also saw this tour live at Barclays. It was unbelievable. Yeah. And then I thought I was safe. I love that. And then she did Yellow Flicker Beat. And which I'll talk about Lorde's Hunger Games album at a different time. I can't even get into it right now. I saw her at Glastonbury two summers ago. Glastonbury. Glastonbury. And she played a cover of Cruel Summer, but not the Taylor Cruel Summer. And I just want her to release it so bad so I can put it on my playlist of important covers. Well, you know, there's one track on this that she didn't put on it. I think it's, oh, Precious Metals. And it's. Well, you showed it to me on YouTube recently. I know. Melodrama. Sing that. Melodrama 7. Here's the thing with a perfect album like this. I can't. I could listen to it every day and not get sick of it. I still do. I put it in my story recently. I go, oh, I'm back on this album. Watch out. And what was I listening to when you got in the car this morning? Melodrama. Melodrama. Because it's just like, it's a perfect album. You can listen to it start to finish whenever you want. You know what it is? It's such a tour de force. A sophomore record that took its time and was kind of punished for taking its time in a lot of ways because you don't have like the whole machine behind you like you did previously. If you're coming off a huge record, I think labels want you to come out with an album like a year later to like, to like stay on the hype. She took her time and made. That's not how art works. She made an iconic. You know what it is? It's a masterpiece. But do you remember when. And this goes into just like female pop stars. Just they can't do anything right in the court of public opinion. Remember when she had like the flu and she had to perform at the VMAs so she just danced around the stage and everyone gave her shit for it? She still fucking showed up. You know, I was obsessed with that. That was my VMA thing that I was. Okay, good. I believe that's what I was obsessed with. God, it's been a long time. I know. We've been. It's hard to like this many things. Give the flowers though. It's kind of us at a party when we're like, wait, play melodrama. It's just like straight guys sitting around and we're just like, I'm fucking vibing now. I don't care. I'm tweaking in the corner. It's our world and they're just living in it. Oh, can I say something? The remix, Homemade Dynamite. That's a perfect segue to what I wanted to discuss. SZA, Post Malone, Khaled. Khaled. SZA was put under similar pressure after Control came out, which I feel Control is a perfect album. Oh, I should have put that on. Control is a perfect album. Control is perfect. Yeah, shit. But then her second album took a little longer. Oh, so is Channel Orange. Yeah. There can be more than five. Yeah. Those were just, were on my mind. Because to me, so is Anti. I'm glad that Lorde has never given us a reason to have to not listen to this album. Oh, and she never will. Huge shout out to all the artists that are just sort of keeping it all above board. Have you ever watched her break the ice when she does the Britney Spears break the ice in the woods for Vogue? No. I'll play that outside a restaurant tonight for you. But I think if melodrama, melodrama should just sort of always be in the top 100 in my opinion. I agree. And if it's not, you and I aren't doing the work that we need to be doing. I'm going to be writing, as I mentioned, for nonfiction books. Now, this might surprise people because I'm a storyteller. I love. Tell people what nonfiction means. So nonfiction is when it's based in fact and truth. There's sources being cited and it's like a record of what happened. There's no flourish. Like Matthew McConaughey's book. Exactly. And sometimes you can add weight to it physically, but it's still nonfiction. Like The Last of the Mohicans. Exactly. Biggest book in herstory. Next to The Order of the Phoenix, Turf Hogwarts. I even said fuck you, J.K. recently. On this very day when I'm writing for Lorde's Melodrama, fuck you, J.K. Fuck you, J.K. Lorde could do Harry Potter, but J.K. could never do Melodrama. Well, it's like how I told Terry that Terry could do Nara Smith, but she could never do him. I totally agree with that. Do you get that? I do. Like she could never like go on tour with. Yeah. You know what I mean by that. I do. So I love building worlds. I love creating universes. And I love to put words on the page. But what I really enjoy reading when I'm consuming books is nonfiction. So whether they're based on science or politics, or it's a book of essays, like Trick Mirror, for example, by Gia Tolentino, which took me three years to read. I love. The perfect length of time to read a book. The perfect length of time. I love nonfiction. Me and my meditation book. I love bell hooks. I just want to read things that are rooted in truth and fact, so I can share that knowledge. Well, The Woman in Me was my favorite book of like the last 10 years. Give me a memoir any day of the week. Now, there are a collection of fiction books that I, believe, are perfect books. One of them being My Year of Rest and Relaxation, Catcher in the Rye, The Awakening, which is short. And that gets me into something else I want to talk about. So I made a video about this a really long time ago, but it's kind of weird to me that books are all different sizes. Think about it. They're different sizes. And I don't even mean page count, which I'll get to. But why did we say like all DVDs are one size, VHS are one size, but books, we said, just have fun with it. I know. That makes a bookshelf a very, very difficult place. Well, it sounds like you're the home edit. What's that show that was on Netflix where they make all of it rainbow coded? I keep going into houses and that happens. And I'm like, pride's over. I have my books arranged by color. It just happens. That's crazy. You do that. Let them rock. Let it be chaos. Oh, Mr. OCD. And I can't organize my books? Sorry, my OCD didn't manifest in that way. I don't know how to describe it either way. Books, I'm like, I just, I let her rip. Let her rip. Yeah. Well, Terry has a video. Terry, like designer's eye way of organizing books. And I love the way your books are organized. He does. He really does. But for me, it's like, there's a, there should be a place for everything and everything in its place. And that's next to other pink books. If it's a pink book, it should be with other pink books. And maybe that's just growing up in a, in a society. I should let my books sort of just find their friends and stay with them. But so I actually think there should be a standard book size. And I think there should be a maximum book length. And if your page count is over that length, that's two books. People are out here. They're doing the work, especially Penguin. Penguin's doing a lot. The big publisher, Fox Books. Penguin. But they're making like remakes where all the books are like all the classics are the same size. So you could have that if you wanted to. Fox Books. Oh my God. I said Fox Books, bitch. Tom Hanks in You've Got Mail. Have we talked about how I want the sequel of that? No. Because it's like, I know that he came crawling back to Meg Ryan because she was like, oh, now you want mom and pop bookshops, bitch. You're out of business. Borders Bookstores, gone. Now Spirit Halloween. Well, he probably retired off all the money he made at the big conglomerate. No, I think he killed himself. Oh, okay. Well, that's in the sequel. In 2008. I do love nonfiction books. And I think if you love fiction, maybe once a year, just pick up a nonfiction book. I'm not going to give you any examples because it's really whatever piques your interest. But what's cool about nonfiction books is there's nonfiction books about everything. Now, having said that, make sure it's not a crackpot doctor like Dr. Oz or a TikTok doctor who's writing about stuff that's just actually not true. Because a lot of times nonfiction, there's, it's like with documentaries, like everyone has an angle. Everyone has an agenda they're trying to push. So- Except Britney. Except Britney, obviously. That's just true. She was just writing what happened. God, it's so good. As it unfolded. Jessica Simpson's memoir. I really loved Amy Poehler's memoir, Tina Fey. There are so many great celebrities who've written memoirs. Molly Shannon's is fabulous. What a great read. Oh, Molly, right? What a fabulous read. It's fabulous. Oh, I couldn't put that book down. That's an absolute must. Made me laugh out loud. There's enough fake news going around. That's how I think about fiction books. What, you could come up with anything? That's not fair. I agree. Let's put some confines in it. Let's give it a page. Let's give it a maximum page count. Compensating is kind of somewhere in the middle, wouldn't you say? I really would. And I love that about it. Playing with form. I love things that are like inspired by slash loosely based on. That's like- We're very loosely based. Perfect thing for me. That's the perfect middle ground for me. And historical fiction can be so beautiful as well. Now that's a great genre because you're a good historical fiction. The research into the Steve Jobs book. Do you remember when everyone was reading that? Yeah, not me though. Well, not me either. Couldn't be me. Again, too long. Oh, couldn't be me. Oh, and the Sir Isaac Newton biography. That's two books, my love. A Little Life. Don't look at me. Sorry, 500 pages. Can't. Oh, A Little Life. That ruined Terry for a while. Do you know what it's about? I don't want to. Don't ever read what that book is about. Really? Ever. If you can write anything in the world, let's write a happy book. Have we ever considered a happy book or a happy play? We've talked about this. Walk Two Moons. I'm not, I'm really not speaking on that. I just feel like there's enough bad. So much for my happy ending. That's why I just keep watching Hitch. Oh, totally. And he did it with flair. Should we get into Ride or Die? You know what you are, Mary Beth? Bisexual? Well, yeah, but you're also my Ride or Die. Ride or Die. Of course I ride for Lorde's Melodrama. It sort of goes without saying at this point. That's one of my girls. She's a true artist. To make a timeless album in a time, much like Charlie did, where it feels like, could anything timeless ever be made again? And the girls are telling us yes. So I'm happy. I'm happy when my pop girl puts out a new album. I agree. She's one that I'm riding for. Whatever she's got next, I'm excited. I love Solar Power. It was like driving home from the beach, having a good time. I love the cover. Oh, God! An upskirt shot, but it's artistic. Perfect cover alert. That's on my perfect cover. Actually, every album I listed has a perfect cover. Agreed. When you think about it. Agreed. Yeah. Totally. So I plan on streaming it on the way home. And hard feelings, love. For example, like, I'm sure there are some nonfiction books out there that are making people right-wing. Whoa, I just thought about punching Ben Shapiro on the face. Yeah.
