Held By What We Hold: The Wisdom of Tara | FOTM | Martyna Dharmina Febre

This transcription discusses the concept of suffering in relation to Green Tara, a Buddhist deity associated with compassion and relief from suffering. It suggests that suffering often stems from our resistance to change—our tendency to cling to people, possessions, and circumstances, wanting them to remain constant. When change inevitably occurs, this attachment can cause anxiety and pain. To suffer less, the text advocates for cultivating the ability to let go and embrace impermanence. It emphasizes that nothing in life is truly ours to keep, including ourselves, and that accepting this can lead to greater freedom. The practice of chanting to Green Tara or invoking her energy through her mantra is presented as a helpful tool in this process, but it also notes that personal work and intention are necessary. Overall, the message encourages a shift in mindset from clinging to accepting change, with spiritual practices serving as support.

[Music] This month will be about Tara or the green Tara in that case. And her energy is often called upon when it comes to the relief of suffering. And for that it might be interesting to look into what actually makes us suffer. So why are we suffering in the first place? And can we let go of that? Suffering is oftentimes the resistance to change. So one of the main causes for suffering is us resisting change. So we cling to things, we hold onto things, we want things to stay the same. And once they're changing and shifting, sometimes that induces anxiety or resistance to that. So creating the ability to let go and to loosen our grip a little bit in life could be one of the things that help us to suffer less. To embrace the fact that change is inevitable, that things are not ours to keep, that we are not ours to keep, that our life is not ours to keep, that essentially nothing is ours to keep. And just become more free when it comes to that. And chanting to green Tara or evoking our energy, or using her mantra, could help us to do so. Even though we have, we might have to do the work ourselves. [Music]
