Democratic leadership is in crisis, marked by plummeting internal approval ratings and growing distrust among party members. Chuck Schumer’s net favorability has dropped sharply—from a high of +33 to -5—making him the least popular Senate leader since 1985. This erosion of trust is mirrored in Hawkeam Jeffries’ decision to cancel a fundraiser with Ballard Partners, a Trump-linked firm that supports Israeli expansion and has ties to figures like Michael LaRosa, a former Biden press secretary who now backtracks to Republican politics. The episode critiques the false equivalency between Jeffries’ meetings with Jared Kushner and Zoran Mamdani’s interactions with Trump, arguing that the latter was politically effective in protecting New York immigrants while the former serves elite interests without democratic accountability. Critics emphasize that democratic leadership has failed to stand against fascist-aligned policies, corporate influence, and foreign violence. Instead of relying on corporate donations, the show champions people-powered, grassroots movements like Abdul Al-Sayed’s, which have proven successful despite being outspent. The broader takeaway is that Democratic leadership has abandoned its principles, prioritizing status quo and elite financial interests over justice, transparency, and accountability. This growing crisis demands renewed accountability, with independent journalists and progressive voices calling for a reimagining of democratic leadership rooted in public trust, anti-fascism, and grassroots power.
How dumb does Hawkeam Jeffries think we are? It's a serious question. How stupid does democratic leadership think we are? I don't even want to call it leadership. What are they leading on? Are they leading on policy proposals to make the party popular to show how we're going to combat the affordability crisis? I haven't heard anything. Are they leading on taking on Donald Trump? No, I've just seen them cave. I see more fight against Zoran Mamdani, Abdul Al-Sayed and Hassan Piker. Oh, three Muslim guys, what a shock. Do they think we're stupid? Do they think they can just do shit behind our back and we won't notice? Because we did notice. And Hawkeam Jeffries, he had to respond. It is embarrassing what we are seeing right now from Democrats who are just insisting on doing anything but challenging Donald Trump and actually making sure we can win this midterms. Who are collaborating with fascists as my friend Jen Welch would say, paying, playing patty cake with the fascist and screwing us over. Now, I want to get into this story. I want to get into the consequences that Jeffries just faced. I want to have a broader conversation about democratic leadership going forward. But I want to start with some news that you already know because I'm sure you feel it. The Democratic leadership, it's not popular right now. What are we talking about here? Well, the call is coming from inside the house because Democrats on their own leaders, they don't like their own leaders. I dare say they despise their own leaders. And this is the big difference from what we saw back in 2018, just before Democrats were trying to take back the US House of Representatives that fall. Take a look here. Net approval of congressional dem leaders among Democrats. Back in 2018, look at this. Their net approval rating was plus 19 points. Hey, that's pretty good. Two thumbs up, Cisco and Uber. Now we're talking about two thumbs down. Look at this. Minus 12 points. What a different world that we are right now. Democrats do not like they despise their own leadership. This is a shift away among Democrats of 31 points. They are 31 points south of the border compared to where they were at this point back in 2018. And this is D on D crime. D on D crime. All right, how about Chuck Schumer? Yeah, what is driving these numbers? Well, take a look at Chuck Schumer's numbers. I mean, hello. Okay, Schumer's net favorability with Democrats. Back in 2018, right? It was plus 28 points. But of course, Democrats did not win back the United States Senate during the 2018 side. In 2020, when they did, it was plus 33 points. Look at where it is now, a market university law school poll out earlier this month. It's minus five points. Johnny B on the side shaking. It said, these are no one on no good numbers. And this is among Democrats. Democrats hate Chuck Schumer. They don't like Chuck Schumer. And this is why you're seeing a lot of Democratic Senate candidates on the trail. When being asked about whether or not they want Chuck Schumer to be the next leader in the United States Senate for Democrats, they'll either try and push off the question or say, no, this isn't the client, Johnny B of what? 58 points. 58 point difference from where we were back the last time that Democrats were trying to take back the United States Senate during the 2020 side. Any historical precedent for this? Yeah, this is the whole thing. Historically unpopular, there is no historical precedent for this. I mean, just look here. OK, the least popular dem Senate leader ever since at least 1985, when we can track this, the minus five among Democrats, Chuck Schumer is taking the cake when it comes to unpopularity, four Senate leaders among Democrats, among their own party. This is what I keep hitting on right now. This is not the overall electorate where Chuck Schumer is very much in the red. We're talking about among Democrats, Chuck Schumer is in the red. I mean, you just don't ever see these types of numbers among Democrats who usually like their own leaders, but in this case, they do not. I do like the idea that history began in 1985. At least the polling history. Yeah, I wasn't born in 1985, so history for me began. There wasn't polling on the un Senate leaders like there is now before 1985, but since then, certainly, didn't see nothing like this ever before. OK, so what then do the prediction market say about his chances of actually being the Democratic leader in the next Senate? Yeah, they're about-- they've been trading back and forth, either just north or just south of the 50/50 borderline. OK, right now, he's just north of it. The chance that Chuck Schumer wins the next dem Senate leadership election, according to the cash prediction market, just a 55% chance. This is a guy who's been the dem Senate leader forever, but at this point, if there's going to be one time where, hey, maybe he should be worried about his job, it's this leadership election coming up. Harry, and thank you very much for this. Thank you, my friend. We got a lot of news this morning. We'll be right back. Historically unpopular. People have been talking about a Democratic Tea Party. I think this is something more. This isn't a Tea Party. This is-- well, it's funny. I was going to say this is the Democratic Party, the people who are taking on the failed leadership. But do you know what? That's what happened with a Tea Party. Trump took over the Tea Party. Trump was the Tea Party, and now Republicans are different. Now, it's a party that just listens to one guy. Now, I'm not saying that the Democratic Party should become the party of one person, unless that person is our Lord and Savior's or on them, Donnie. But no, I want to reset. We all do. We've all wanted that the whole time. We've wanted that since the first moment that they started caving to Donald Trump. And that is why I am so disgusted to read this report that we're going to get into. Hawkeemed Jefferies cancels fundraiser with Fox News's favorite dem. House Minority Leader Hawkeemed Jefferies canceled a fundraiser appearance with a Democratic lobbyist who was frequently appeared on Fox News to bash members of the party. And a piece titled Jefferies abruptly cancels fundraiser with Fox News's favorite dem. The bullwork reported on Tuesday at Hawkeemed Jefferies was to set to attend the event with corporate lobbyists from a Trump-allied firm called Ballard Partners among the lobbyists scheduled to attend was Michael LaRosa, an ex-spokesperson for former First Lady Jill Biden, last month LaRosa made waves by announcing his support for Republican Mike Rogers and the US Senate race in Michigan against Abdul Al-Sahed, who called for an end to USA to Israel. Ballard Partners has an office in Tel Aviv. Oh, what a shock. Oh, what a shock that the people with the office in Tel Aviv want to send endless money to Israel. Hours after the report was published in great reporting by the bullwork, Jefferies withdrew from the event. Leader Jefferies does not plan to participate in any event hosted by Ballard next week or at any point in the future, Jefferies spokesperson Justin Trinol told the bullwork. The event is not on his calendar and it is not taking place throughout this cycle. He has personally raised over $200 million for House Democrats and the Democratic Congressional Committee. The average contribution to his reelection campaign is $28 per person. I cannot believe, although I can believe. So I guess I should just say what I always say about Republicans and Trump because these are people collaborating with the fascists. I'm never surprised I'm always disgusted. First cushioner, now this, it's not shocking. But do you think we're dumb? Do you think this reporting is not going to come out? Well, we see what's going on here. These people have the same interests. It's protecting the status quo. It's protecting a status quo that sends billions of dollars to Israel that gets a very certain group of people rich and of course protects the interest of constant expansion, violent expansion in that region. Israel, expanding, always expanding its borders, killing innocent people in the process for a project that is inherently fascistic, inherently racist, inherently evil, inherently violent. That is the status quo that they want to protect, the type of state violence that they want to protect. By the way, that Michael LaRosa guy, the guy who said that he was voting for or supporting Mike Rogers instead of Abdul Al Sayed, he is a guy who worked for Jill Biden as a press secretary. I mean, like, press secretary, the first lady is an exactly the most important position in government. But he lost that job because he was bringing guys up to the secure floor where the first family stayed to try to sleep with them to be like, ooh, aren't I so cool? We're gonna go and sleep together on the same floor as the president. It's like, what a loser do you have to be to find that like hot? Like, ooh, we're sleeping a few doors down from the 81 year old president and his wife. Like, if I can talk about a loser, talk about a loser who just wants to be cool in political circles. My God, dude, what do you talk, gross. And so that's why he, as now, oh, left the left is working for Republicans because he just wants to go to cocktail parties this guy. I'm sure, emphasis on the cock. He wants to go to cocktail parties. He wants to be with a little in-group and he wants to make money. He doesn't care if it's from Tel Aviv. He doesn't care if it's from the Israelis. He doesn't care if it means supporting a genocide, supporting the surveillance state that my grudgers wants to create. But back to Jeffries and Schumer. It's just disgusting, it's embarrassing. And it's especially embarrassing given the freak out that we saw from the centrist this week. Now, these are people who have been saying, oh, God, oh, God, Zora Mamdani, he met with Donald Trump, how terrible. You can't do that. You can't, you can't do that. And they're trying to make a comparison. They're trying to make this equivocation. The left, the progressives, us, friends of the show. So then it was disgusting for Jeffries to meet with Kushner. And they're trying to equivocate that. With Zora Mamdani having Donald Trump a crazy mansion. Now, what seems different there? Jared Kushner is an unelected official. He's not in our government. He's got no power. He makes money off of his perceived legitimacy in relevance and he's a fascist. Genocidal maniac? Yep, okay. Jeffries was meeting with him why? Why? Well, I don't know. He said it was about affordability. I don't really think Jared cares about affordability. Maybe for Israeli, he does. Not for Americans, we know that for sure. What about that was about affordability. You are bringing legitimacy to a guy that you should only be speaking to when he's been subpoenaed. And he's testifying on a rose. Only conditions in which you should be speaking to him. So they try to make this equivocation with Zora and Trump. Zora Mamdani.
have saved New Yorkers, especially immigrants in New York, like unspeakable pain because he has been able to smile in Donald Trump's face and not even smile. Keep a straight face in Donald Trump's face and charm him enough that he is not sent ice into New York City, right? To remove people and deport people with temporary protected status. So I'm, I'm Donnie is building affordable housing right now, building more transit because Donald Trump has not taken away federal grants. He said he was going to strip New York City off. So Zoran is one every interaction and I can tell you I can promise you no one, no one, no one came out of that little press conference with Zoran in his straight face and never played poker with Mayor Mamdani after that. Jeez, no one came out of that press conference thinking, oh, I really like this Trump guy who Zoran criticized for his attacks on the first amendment. No, Trinan gained any popularity from that. He just was made to look like a goober by Mamdani who always plays him. I'm plays him so well. But Kushner came out of the meeting with Jeffries with more legitimacy that he can throw around to try to get business deals. Not only am I the president's son-in-law, but I also have the soon to be speaker of the house. Maybe he's balls as well. That's how that looks. So the equivalent is such a false equivalency. It's so stupid. And it's ridiculous. When you are the person getting something out of the interaction and you're also not giving something from the person with more power, that's what Zoran did. He played the guy with more power, the president. And this is about governing, which Zoran does effectively. I don't know where we've seen that from Democratic quote-unquote leadership. So this is just gross. We don't want the fascist money. The last time I spoke with Hawkeam Jeffries, and I think it's notable that it was the last time. I asked him why he was taking money from executives at Palantir. I've not got invited back for an interview since then. We don't need these people's money. Because we know what it comes with. We know what the expectations are. You should only be serving us. Learn the lessons of an Abdul al-Sayed. Who beat Haley Stevens in his primary. Being outspent 12 to 1. Where do they spend 60 million dollars? All that APAC money? All that corporate money? We don't need it. We can win with people power. And we have consistently. Democratic leadership has let us down again. Sure, Jeffries canceled. But it's like, damage done man. Keep embarrassing yourself. You keep embarrassing yourself. But our friends like those at breaking points and the majority report who covered this story, who called it out. They are doing great work. We need more voices on the left. Emma Viglin, Sam Cedar, of course, grid front of the show, Crystal Ball. These are the people who are holding leadership accountable. We will continue to do the same. Keep on fighting y'all. Don't let them silence yet. And until next time, I'll see you soon.
