Understanding Grief Release and Somatic Preparation
OK, in this recording we are going to work on releasing grief from the body.
And before we get into this, I just want to say this isn't too what we're trying to do here is release the amount of emotional pressure or build up that's within you.
This has nothing to do about trying to move on or forget about the person or kind of close that chapter.
It's, it's, it's solely about helping you release this emotional charge, this emotional reservoir that's within you so that you can feel more at ease, more at peace.
Nothing to do with the relationship to the person or trying to move on from them or forget about them.
OK, It's just about the emotion and you not feeling as emotional and carrying as much inner tension about this person.
So I just want to start off by saying that.
And so to get started, just get comfortable.
So sit down somewhere, lay on your couch, on your bed, on the floor.
Just get really comfortable physically.
And close your eyes and we're just going to do a little bit of breathing together here, OK, just to slow down.
So we'll do it together.
Just going to breathe in through your nose for like 2 seconds, 1-2, and then a long exhale through your mouth with your lips partially closed like you're breathing out of a straw.
So keep doing that in just find your rhythm.
It's very relaxing breathing, nothing forced or stressful.
Something that you could do for a long time if you needed to.
It's nothing to do here except breathe.
OK, if you want, you can just feel your chest rising and falling as you breathe.
Keep breathing.
Now just become aware of your feet.
Just become fully aware of your feet.
Feel the weight of your feet on the floor or whatever they're touching.
Feel your feet and then become aware of your hands.
Just notice your hands.
Feel your hands.
Feel the weight of your hands on whatever they're touching.
We're not doing anything here other than just being aware of these parts of our body.
It's becoming aware of your hands.
Feel your hands, notice your hands and then notice your shoulders.
Become aware of your shoulders.
See if you can feel the fabric of your your top on your or your shirt on your shoulders if you're if you have something on that's touching your shoulders.
Feel the back of your head, just notice the back of your head and then the top of your head.
Just become aware of the top of your head.
Identify Physical Sensations of Grief in Your Body
Great, so now we're going to move into things.
I want you to think about the person.
Just imagine them in your mind, maybe see their face or see them kind of standing there in your mind.
Just connect to them and if it feels like a lot already, just dip one toe in here.
Just connect to them.
You know, 10% or if you feel like you can handle it, you can just really, really connect to them here, See them in your mind, think about them.
And as you do that, notice how your body responds.
Notice what happens physically in your body when you think about them.
What kind of sensations do you experience?
Where in your body do you experience them?
So it could be in your chest or your stomach, your throat.
Just notice where the dominant kind of location is for you.
If it's multiple locations, just be aware of all of them, but just be very present here of the physical experience that's going on.
What do you feel physically?
What are the sensations you're experiencing physically and where are they in your body?
Allow Physical Sensations to Exist Without Judgment
And all I want you to do is just be fully focused on the physical experience you're having right now, OK?
The physical sensations, what's happening in your body physically?
I'm not trying to get rid of them.
We're not running from them.
We're just trying to see if we can be present with them, if we can allow them to exist to these sensations.
You don't have to analyze them or make sense of them.
Just become aware of them, be present with them and just breathe.
And if at any time it feels too intense, just back out, Open your eyes.
You're completely OK.
These are just feelings.
They're just sensations.
We're going to just stay with this.
And breathe, see if you can relax into this a little bit.
Just by like 5%.
Can you be OK with these physical sensations and experiences happening, knowing that they're just feelings and you're in control?
Stay with the physical experience.
Doing great when your mind wanders, come back to the physical experience.
That's our anchor in all of this work.
Just come back to the physical experience and just let it.
Let it do its thing.
Don't try to make it go away in intensity or make it go away completely.
Let it exist on its own without interfering.
The key here is to almost get yourself out of the way and just let these sensations exist and kind of just do their thing.
Let them send sensate.
Let the sensations sensate.
If that's even a word.
Just let them.
Let them exist, let them be.
You're doing awesome.
And if it feels like the sensations you originally connected with have kind of changed and they've moved locations in your body, just follow where you feel like the predominant sensation is and the location of in your body and go there.
If it hasn't changed locations, just stay where you are.
Just stay with the physical experience, just fully experiencing the sensations here.
That's all you need to do.
Stay with it, stay with the sensations and just breathe.
See if you can relax all the other areas of your body right now.
Let them soften and just let this area with all the sensation just be activated kind of in its own isolated area.
So just relax, try to relax the other areas of your body like your your legs.
And just let this activation that you're experiencing, these sensations just kind of be in its own isolated area.
Just breathe.
Continue to allow these sensations to exist.
Stay calm, stay cool.
You're in control.
You're just being present with these sensations.
It's just, they're just feelings.
They're just sensations.
They will not kill you, they will not hurt you.
It's just a feeling.
And we're letting the feeling exist, the sensation exist.
So again, just notice if you feel like the location has changed for like the dominant sensation and just follow it to the new location and then just be present with what's happening there physically.
And if it still hasn't moved, just stay where you are.
Just stay with it.
Observe Sensations from a Detached, Watching Perspective
Notice where your mind goes when you're doing this or if you're getting like a visual or like an image kind of pop up in your mind, just kind of see that image.
Maybe it's like a, a ball of energy or something like that or some sort of visual, whatever it is, just see, see the visual.
Like I'll ask you a question here.
If there was a visual or an image related to this sensation you feel right now, what would that visual or image be?
If there is a visual to describe the sensation, what would the visual or image be?
And let it kind of pop up into your mind, like let the image pop up if you have one.
Don't judge it, just it could be anything and see that image.
But I want you to see the image or the visual as if it's being kind of projected on a screen, OK?
Like you're in the movie theater and you see the image on the screen and you're kind of watching from the seats.
You're not in the image, you're watching it.
So see the image in front of you on the screen.
And also, if you can, from this kind of place of you're in the seats of the movie theater, see if you can see the sensation in your body right now as like being separate from you.
Like create a little bit of space between you and a sensation.
Like you're watching it, even though it's in your body, you're watching it, you're observing it,
see the image, feel the sensation.
But from this place of I am separate from this.
I'm detached, I'm watching and I'm experiencing it.
Don't try to make sense of the image, just watch it.
Stay with the sensations.
Breathe, stay calm, stay cool.
Doing awesome.
Recognize How Your Body Processes Emotional Layers
Stay with now just come back fully into the physical sensations.
Let's just stay with the physical sensations that are present.
You can forget about the image or visual for a second.
Come back to your body.
Come back to the sensations wherever they are in your body right now.
So it could be like tightness or constriction, ball of energy kind of tight, just whatever it is for you, stay with it fully focused on the physical experience.
Staying calm, staying cool, staying relaxed if you can.
And
now I want you to go back and imagine that same image again or visual you had if you had one and notice if it's changed.
Notice notice if it's a little bit different, or it could be the same, but just notice what's happening with that image now.
And notice what's happening in your body right now physically.
Notice if the intensity has changed, you know, decrease, increase the same since when we began.
Notice if the location of those of the kind of dominant sensation has changed in your body from one place to another in your body.
It's OK if it hasn't, but just take note.
Take note of what has actually transpired over the past 15 minutes or so.
It's OK if it's still the exact same as when you started.
Just notice if anything feels different.
Notice what's shifted, if anything.
Notice if you feel a little bit calmer while being with these sensations then at the beginning
and you can continue on as long as you want to stay with the physical sensations.
Or you can kind of close this session and and do the recording again in the future when you feel like you're ready for it.
But I just want to acknowledge something the.
The change in location of the sensations, the change in intensity, the, the image changing, those are all what I call shifts.
OK, So when something like that happens, like the image changes, location changes, the intensity changes, you're working through a layer of the emotion within you.
So I call that a shift.
So I really want you to acknowledge if you felt like you experienced any shifts during the past during this session, that's you literally working through the layers and processing the emotion that's within you related to the grief.
If you keep doing this, you keep processing emotion, the emotion which is which now you know is just being present with the physical sensations.
That is how you release the reservoir of this, of these emotions within you.
If you keep doing this, you will feel lighter, You will feel better because you're freeing up all this energy, this emotional energy within you.
You will heal.
You will, you will move through the grieving by releasing this emotional energy within you.
So I highly recommend continuing to do this recording, continuing to Createspace to feel the physical experience of what's within you.
That is the key that will be what sets you free from the pain and not to be become free from the person and you know, and what was it's just to be free from the pain.
When you're free from the pain, you can, you can you feel better, you feel lighter, you can still love the person that's no longer with you.
It's just the pain is gone.
That's what we want to do here.
Grounding Back to Body and Continued Healing
So just to kind of close the session, it keep going.
If you want to keep going, just pause and just ignore this kind of next section of the audio.
But if you're ready to kind of stop, we're just going to wind down.
Just want you to take a big inhale through your nose, fill up your whole upper body, and then big exhale through your mouth.
Just kind of sign.
If you want do one more in and out.
I want you to just now focus on your feet again, Just go down to your feet, become fully aware of your feet, feel your feet, feel your feet on the floor or whatever they're touching.
And just to acknowledge that your feet have just been hanging out here the whole time, OK?
So really acknowledge that even when we feel like a whole bunch of sensation, a lot of emotion and energy in one area of our body, there's always just typically always going to be other areas of our body that are just totally calm.
OK, So just really appreciate that your feet are here, they're cool, they're chill.
Just feel your feet and then feel your hands again.
Notice your hands, shoulders, you can roll your shoulders, just kind of loosen up a little bit and then the back of your head and the top of your head.
And if you want, just like open your eyes just right now and you feel ready and look around the room or wherever you are and just find 3 objects, three objects.
See what you can find.
Just kind of say them just off out loud.
I see a feather, I see picture frame in a book.
OK, so just re enter the room, really kind of be present in the room now after this kind of inner experience.
And if you still feel like there's a lot of kind of emotion within you, which would be totally normal.
If there is just notice kind of see it as like today we chipped away at a layer of it or layers of it.
And the more you do this, you're just continue to chip away those layers.
So I highly recommend just continue to do this.
If you have any questions about how to do this or you need kind of like support kind of working through this, just e-mail me at
[email protected].
And I'll be happy to kind of share some some thoughts, perspectives.
But ultimately I just want to say you got this.
These emotions within you are just kind of waiting to be processed and released like this.
And your piece is on the other side.
I promise.
So big love and Kee going.
