Grève à la STIB - Pourquoi les lignes 2-6 ne roulent pas durant une grève ?

Lasty, a public transport company in Brussels, addresses questions in their podcast "Voyage Voyage." During strikes, metro lines 2 and 6 are frequently canceled due to limited alternatives, unlike other lines where tram and bus services can be utilized. The company prioritizes lines based on available staff to ensure safe and quality service during national demonstrations. By focusing on the most critical lines, Lasty aims to maximize service efficiency and passenger satisfaction. Operational decisions are made based on the availability of metro driving agents, with an emphasis on maintaining essential services rather than operating all lines in a degraded manner. This strategic approach allows Lasty to offer a more reliable and secure public transport system, considering the limitations in staff and resources during strikes.

[Music] Hello. You are listening to Voyage Voyage, a podcast by Lasty. Lasty is the company of the intercommunal transports of Brussels. Our bus, our train and metro transport you every day within the European capital and its region. In this podcast, we are going to try to answer many questions that you ask yourself on Lasty. We are going to answer them in a clear and direct way in order to make you discover Lasty as you have never seen it. Well, at least heard of it. Well, let's not take it too late on the clock. Sit down comfortably and listen carefully to Lasty. [Music] Today, we are going on the network and you asked us this question. Why during the strike, the metro 2 and 6 are always cancelled? Let's try to answer it with a specialist. [Music] It is indeed a question that is very relevant and that comes back regularly every time we have a national strike, a national demonstration. What you heard is Vincent LeMence, the manager network operations at Lasty. Why not the 2.6? Why always the 1.5? When we look at the 2.6 line, the 2.6 line, we can, I will not say easily, but we can offer alternatives to customers via tram lines, bus lines, which almost every edition are exploited. I think here at tram 7, tram 9, at 51, at the bus line 88, there are alternatives for the customers who would not see their 2.6 line exploited. It is true that we are quite limited on the 1.5. If you take the dessert of the hospital of UCL Saint-Luc, what do you have? Like desserts other than the subway? Yes, a bus line, but a bus line that does not really part of the strongest lines of our network. And so there, it does not give us a lot of alternatives if we do not have the metro line that goes to UCL. We have the same thing on the other side, the ERASM side with the ERASM hospital. If you do not have a metro line that goes there, our network of base does not offer really robust alternatives. What are the advantages of the ERASM? We must know that when we are in the context of a national demonstration, we have much less conduct agents who are present. So what we are going to do on our side, on the operational planning side, is that we will try to have a view on the number of agents present, the day, and depending on the agents present, we will try to deploy the most relevant network for the client, that is to say try that a majority of neighborhoods in Brussels continue to be serviced either by the metro, either by the tram, or by the bus. So we will really have an analysis that is complete, that we will superimpose at the level of the metro tram bus to ensure the best possible desert. Knowing, of course, that we do not have all the resources that are there, and that from the office it will be necessary to start making choices on the lines that roll or that do not roll. What are the advantages of the ERASM? We must know that several years ago, this situation was managed rather in real time. We had very few views on the number of vehicles that were affected by each line. We had quite few views on the lines that rolled correctly or not. So we started from the principle that all the lines rolled but in a very degraded way. And therefore a communication at the level of the clients who were really quite basic. And so we said to ourselves a few years ago, would it be better not to prioritize the correct operation of certain lines to offer a service and a service of acceptable quality rather than to believe that we can roll the whole network. And so that's how we started to say that from the moment we do not have all the personnel, what are the priorities at the level of the operation of the different lines? It starts with the metro, it is also valid for the tram and the bus. And so for the metro, obviously, we look at the number of metro driving agents who are present. We cannot go and look for bus drivers or tram drivers to make them roll the metro. These are really very specific skills. What are the advantages of the ERASM? And so we try to have the most complete view on the metro driving agents who are going to be present. And compared to that, we have different scenarios of operation that will go from the complete operation of the four lines to no operation at all because we have no one to drive the metro. In these different scenarios, we will rather choose to maintain the line 1-5. At the end, it is true of line 2-6. It is a choice that we assume because we think it is the most judicious. Making the four lines roll, as I just said, in a very degrading way, can be very dangerous. Because with very very long waiting times, it is metro that we can imagine bounding. Very uncomfortable situations, even at the level of security. Ideal for the team. The team can be bonded, it can crack everywhere. We must also know that we are effectively reduced at the level of the accompaniment. So we can not take too many risks in relation to that either. It is better to exploit a limited number of lines correctly rather than to open everything in a very degrading way. With the whole metro-tramébus line, so really the combination of the three modes combined, we can reach a maximum of people. And so these are choices that are made in relation to a view of the whole, especially Brussels. And here you are, you don't know more about this type now. You have listened to Voyage Voyage, a podcast from Lastib. We hope you liked it. We will meet again in the next episode for other information related to Lastib. Until then, do not forget to travel with public transport, to validate, of course, and to appreciate moving by bus, train or metro in the whole Brussels. Bye!
