Greg Cote's Knockin' on the Mountain | Hour 1

The episode analyzes how football organizations evolve through strategic planning, particularly focusing on the Kansas City Chiefs’ successful transition in managing Patrick Mahomes’ aging career by prioritizing a dominant running game featuring Kenneth Walker. This shift reflects a broader principle: great organizations don’t just rely on star quarterbacks but build balanced, resilient teams that can adapt over time. The Broncos, despite boasting a deep roster and elite defenses, are shown to be vulnerable when facing a team with superior execution and organizational cohesion. A central theme is the undervaluation of running backs, exemplified by Derek Henry’s elite performance and longevity—nearly unmatched in the NFL. His career demonstrates how teams can exploit market inefficiencies by investing in durable, high-impact players. The discussion also touches on the evolution of coaching and team strategy, noting that Sean Payton’s decisions and the Chiefs’ off-season moves signal a shift toward more sustainable, defensive-focused models. While the Broncos’ depth is impressive, the Chiefs’ ability to win through balance and protection proves that organizational excellence outweighs individual talent in the long run. The episode concludes with a humorous but insightful exploration of "catchphrase" history, reinforcing the value of storytelling and cultural memory in sports fandom, and announces an expansion of the catchphrase countdown to include 75 entries, highlighting fan engagement and tradition.

- This is the "Down Laboratory Show" with this two-gots podcast. (upbeat music) - This episode of "Down Laboratory Show" is presented by Draft King Sports. Draft Kings. The crown is yours. - Woo! - Hey, let's go, what, what? - I have some chief thoughts that I think are more macro and a lot bigger than what it is, the hyperventilation of the moment will be today because we analyze for some reason some of these things around greatness week to week. We were just talking about Josh Allen at 30 and Dan Marino in his 30s. And what you saw from the chiefs last night, macro, okay? That's exactly how a good organization with a good coach allow their injured quarterback who is aging and not as mobile as he used to be, but still excellent. That's how you allow a great quarterback to age with grace. You get him a running game in the off season and you just protect him. And what they did last night organizationally, never mind what they did to the Broncos, okay? Because Sean Payton will not catch that team. Like Sean Payton will not do that with Bo Nix. Organizationally, if you're gonna be better as an organization going and getting Kenneth Walker, they don't do 20 yard runs. They used to be deep all all over the place. They can't even do that anymore. That's not, they can't get down the field that way. So they reinvented themselves in the off season and they got the Super Bowl MVP and everyone tells us the running back is disposable and you don't have to pay him and Derek Henry, you can get him for $10 million a year. And that's how you protect my homes right there. It's not even offensive line. It's just keep hand, start the season, just keep giving the ball to Kenneth Walker. But before we get into the whole of that game because I do think a number of things were interesting there, including Sean Payton telling his wife that Jalen Waddle is someone she should pick up and finish it. Two yards was as long as catch last night. It was his only catch. I'm telling you, it's important the way these things are built but when you have the quarterback, you can do everything in that sport. And they obviously the chiefs have the quarterback and everyone's chasing them again. But I watched that game like I've never watched a game before because in the first half, I thought I heard something again and again and again and I could not tell. And so instead of watching the second half, I went back and rewatch the first half so that I could do this with you guys. This is what Troy Ackman, the ESPN has the Super Bowl this year. This is what Troy Ackman said. The Denver roster is as deep as any in football. Reed understands as much as anyone in football that they've got to run the football. Pat Bryant had as good a camp as anyone in football. Denver has his deep a wide receiver room as anyone in football. Denver has as good a secondary as there is in all of football. Trent McDuffy is as good as anyone in all of football. That was the first quarter. First quarter, second quarter. Denver is as good as any defense in football, even though they don't take the ball away. Denver plays as much man as anyone in football. Kenneth Walker is his patient as anyone in football. Riley Moskets targeted as much as anyone in football. I don't believe you. Denver is as good an offensive line as there is in football. Vance Joseph is as good a defensive coordinator as there is in all of football. Sean Payton is as good a play caller as there is in all of football. Cortland Sutton is as good as anyone in football winning one on one. I don't believe you. I went back and wrote it. I didn't believe it. I'm like, that can't be how I'm hearing this. I'm listening passively. I didn't see the second half. I went back and watched the first half and just took all of those notes. I did not watch the second half of that football game because I'm like, am I hearing this right? Is this what's happening here? Where it's just everyone in this game and the next game and everyone in does is as good as anyone in football? Are you comfortable saying you're the only one who experienced that game like this last night? Yes, I'm not making that up. And the reason that I did it is because like, did I hear that right? It just seemed like, because I've never noticed it before. It just seemed like that was the go to on everything. And I'm not saying those two teams aren't very good, but one of them didn't make the playoffs last year. I watched the game on mute last night because I was watching my stories. You see that Roman, you see how Roman reigns last night, holy s**t, man. He's so good. It was crazy, though, as a Cowboys fan, a reluctant Cowboys fan, is that he does not do that when he calls Cowboys games. He mercilessly filets pretty much the entire roster. And it's like here. I mean, Dan, look at my tribal chief here. Look at him. Come on. Look at him. Just soaking it in. That was in Mexico, CP pent on Mexico City. Match of the year candidate last night. Ah, he's unbeatable. What are you laughing about, Cody? Just Zaz's infatuation with pro wrestling. Is always amusing to me. The game last night, Denver loses. And I don't know whether I'm being fair about doing this to bow next, but I just don't want him at the end. Like if you're going to give me any of the great quarterbacks in this sport, and I've got that one that needs the defense to be great in order for him to be great, I'd rather have the quarterbacks that can win like Caleb Williams just did, whether his defense is great or not. I understand that Sean Peyton can mix and match. You guys see that story that came out that they were thinking about going with drew breeze in the AFC championship game last year instead of what was it? Jared Stidem is that that so they called a 47 year old drew breeze because Sean Peyton, that would have how great would that have been? What wouldn't we all have wanted that? I mean, we were all into Philip Rivers returning for regular meaningless regular season games. Can you imagine if drew breeze is going to play the AFC championship game? How is that even allowed by the way? He hasn't been on the team the whole year to have a new quarterback for the title game? My eyes agree with you on this, Dan. I feel the same way about Bonix, but he also has the most fourth quarter comebacks of any quarterback in the history of football. He's as good as anyone in football in their first two seasons. I'm not actually talking about the end of games. I'm talking about the end of seasons. I'm talking about what I use my quarterback to be at the very end of things, where, yeah, Donald can win the championship if his defense is that good, but I prefer to have the quarterback that I know that. Look, Josh Allen may never win a Super Bowl, okay? But I prefer to have him just simply because even if your defense is good, he does what he did to Houston on Sunday. And so I just rather have the quarterback. And I don't even actually mean it as a knock on Bonix. I don't. It's just in the game that I'm watching last night. If both defenses are about equal, I mean, they load it. That was a substantive trade that they made for Waddle. Like they're, they are building around Bonix as if they think that him and that offense can take them over the top. And it presumes a that defense is recreatible from year to year. And B Denver doesn't cause turnovers. They're a good defense. But last year for whatever the reason was they don't get the football. And I prefer a defense like Houston. I'd prefer a defense that goes and creates chaos plays that makes the other quarterback lose the football. Bronco fans are annoyed right now with Jalen Waddle, right? Even that's one game. But like they scored 10 points last night against a team that, you know, not really known for being great defensively. And Waddle does not like they're definitely mad last night, right? The building of those organizations is interesting to me because the chiefs are the standard, okay? And what Sean Peyton just did in the offseason. They were saying during the broadcast last night that the Bronco's offensive line is the best in football. They went and got him a bunch of receivers like when they, it's not just Jalen Waddle. It's as deep a wide receiver room as there is in football, according to, according to Troy Ackman, the way the Broncos are built, they're at their ceiling. You know what the chief ceiling is. I kind of think that this is like a argument. Not to say it's because I'm an organ alum and I'm trying to find ways to carry water for bonics. But, like, dude, we just forget that Buffalo game existed and that he broke his ankle. It was like, well, we had 27, 23 with four minutes and 11 seconds left in the fourth quarter, bonics, deep left to Marvin Mims for 26 yards and they go to overtime. Like, and he wasn't able to play the next game because his ankle was broken. So like, I think almost beating the bills in a postseason game is pretty, well, the bills are made to lose in the postseason. So it's Josh Allen. I mean, that's the argument against Josh Allen and the bills is that they're pretty great in the regular season and then would have you done for me lately in January. I think the story of the game we're talking about is Kansas City proving everybody wrong. A year ago, everybody except Nick Wright was going, the windows closed. My homes is done. He's not going to come back. And now in Walker, they've given him a way to age gracefully. And that Kansas City defense is pretty damn good and with a running game, my homes is going to be my homes again. Okay, wait a minute, though. He's never had a running game. They've never had a thousand year in Russia in the my homes era. Like, not one. It's the longest streak in the sport. Not necessarily because they didn't have a guy who was good enough, it's because that is not been their M.O. Understood. But what they just showed you last night is, no, we'll beat you this other way. Like, that's what I find interesting. People are going to be talking about Patrick's back or the chiefs are back. They're back in a different form. This is a different football team. And what I'm telling you about the quarterback that the chiefs have after having the discussion about Josh Allen and Dan Marino and do you trade someone like that in your early 30s. Patrick Mahomes is playing with a knee brace. I'm actually surprised he was able to play in that game that it only took him nine months in order to get back. first quarter he's throwing the ball all over. over the place. He was like three for 13 and they're saying pat's back just because he runs into the end zone, but they won that game because they got the Super Bowl MVP in their backfield. And they don't have big play offense running ever. They don't have that. They threw the ball down the field. That's more 20 yard runs than you will see from that team all of last season. This is what they're going to be all of this year. Like Kenneth Walker is a good runner. They're going to protect their quarterback who clearly came back really quick from that injury. It'll get really interesting next year. Like, are they going to stick with being this team or when Mahomes is a year removed from the surgery? Do they go back to putting the ball in his hands for most of the game? I think they'll put the ball in his hands this year. I don't think they're going to wait. If the Kenneth Walker we saw is the ground game they have all season. If he's a guy, you know, among the league leaders in rushing, defensive is going to start to stack the box and go, we don't have to worry about Mahomes that much anymore. And that's when Mahomes is going to have the 38 attempt big game like you. I'm not actually that interested in how Mahomes looked or didn't look to me organizationally when you go and pay that much for the Broncos and then pay that much for Sean Payton. It's because you think that he and his management is going to give you an advantage. And against this guy, it's not against this organization. It's not. You passed them last year because yes, Bo Nick broke his ankle, but they lost their quarterback. And so they fixed it. What they've done is fix it, but they didn't fix it the way you thought they were going to fix it. Tyree Kill isn't going back to the chiefs so that they can beat you with plays down the field. What they've now learned, this is the part of Mahomes's career to me that we'll be fascinating to find out if he is indeed like the all-time greatest. It's the next 10 years, not the first 10. It's whatever happens next with how it is that they manage the fact that we all know he's great, but he's not going to be able to play that style. Just look at what he has learned over the last few years, okay? That team is so dangerous because on 3rd and 9, it doesn't matter when he drops back. He will either convert the 3rd and 9 or he'll run for 9 1/2 yards. That dissipates as you age. It already has injured his body. They used to beat you way down the field. Now he's learned, I can dink and dunk you too. I'll do 12 play drives. I can do that kind of patient. Also, in my big ego-filled return to football, everyone's waiting. I'm the biggest star in the sport, right? I'm going to hand off to start the game four straight times. I'm going to just keep giving the ball to Kenneth Walker on the first try. We're going to write down the field on what you told me was the best defense in football, Troy Ackman. It's a little bit weird when you think about it. Last night, I'm watching the game and my son, my 14-year-old walks in the room. Kenneth Walker with the hand. Kenneth Walker is now on the chiefs. That's a Super Bowl MVP. They just let the Super Bowl MVP walk. You remember, you had that weird moment right at the Seahawks Championship parade where the owner was like, "Hey, Kenneth started negotiating to contract me. We know that I'm going anywhere." He's a Super Bowl MVP. This is what I believe, though, that the greatest organizations do, and this is how evolution happens in sports and in fiscal places where people are inventive. Oh, you're going to undervalue something? Okay. Give me the market inefficiency of you don't think a running back should be paid very much. I'm going to show you in my organization that I can do something with that. It's not a coincidence that the Ravens got Derek Henry. The Ravens have been a great organization for 25 years. You can make the argument that Derek Henry at $10 million last year was the entire market telling you that's all he's worth and that's exactly what the best hedge fund managers and the best leaders exploit when the rest of the sport is undervaluing something. They figure out how to make that something that's resourceful, economical, and allows Patrick Mahomes to age. The Chiefs also have a great opportunity here to get off to a hot start. Since they won that game last night, their next game is Sunday night hosting Indianapolis and then they're at the Dolphins. They're going to be 3-0 heading into another divisional game in week four. Well, I think what's also really interesting is some of the other smaller moves that the Chiefs have made. You get Emmett Johnson as a rookie in the fifth round and he looked awesome. He was a doke award semi-finalists and I think the thing that was stunning to me was undrafted rookie Khalil Benson as the left tackle and it just works. Their talent evaluation is incredible. And what impresses me most is that they didn't get an aging Kenneth Walker hoping to eat one or two more years out. They got a 25-year-old running back. Even for that position, that's young. That's coming into his prime. Kenneth Walker is going to be a supreme running back really for the rest of Patrick Mahomes's prime. You know, they're well set. I don't think they have great receivers. They need to remedy that but they're well set at quarterback and running back for the foreseeable teaser. Has there ever been a Super MVP that immediately left his team? Yeah. James Washington did when he went from Dallas to Tampa after winning the Super Bowl MVP. I don't know if that's the last one or not. Dan Levittar, 16. Great Cody. Take the rest of the day off. This is the Dan Levittar show. This player, his nickname is K9 which is great because his uniform is nine and his name is Kenneth. And the Super Bowl MVP, when you guys talk about what is happening in this sport when it comes to the running back. Derek Henry, what he did Sunday, I know that we're a bit numb to it but Derek Henry being still this kind of great after having an enormous workload in the SEC at Alabama, you would think that the body would wear down. I was saying to you guys yesterday, hey, that Eagles offensive line, they can't keep playing like that every year where they're mauling, everyone mauling, everyone and their bodies don't deteriorate. How does Derek Henry, like in terms of physical specimens in that sport, is there one whose success is more inexplicable in terms of longevity than that one? Like how is that body not breaking down? I just, I, the answer to that question, is for me is, I don't know, but I, I think we really need to have a conversation about Derek Henry being the best running back of all time. This is his 11th year. He, and you know the reason they don't want to pay running backs anymore is because like, hey, four, five, maybe six years, chew him up, spit him out. This guy every year is getting over 300 calories. He's in his 11th year. He doesn't look close to slowing down. It's never injured. If you tell, you tell me he's going to continue performing like this. He's in year 11. He's going to continue performing like this for another few years. We, we shouldn't rightfully be having a conversation that this guy is the best ever prisoner of the moment. So the three, that's a good segment. See, if you get imaging for that, where it's just a bunch of people shouting prisoner of the moment, the three candidates are Barry Sanders, Emmett Smith and Jim Brown, correct? That's who you're, you're putting it in the pan. You're putting him on the Mount Rushmore, correct? You're, you're already saying Derek Henry put it on the pole at Lebitard show. Does Derek Henry belong right now on the Mount Rushmore of best running backs ever? Greg, you are not a prisoner of the moment. Am I missing anybody? When I say it's Emmett Smith, it's Barry Sanders and it's Jim Brown. I don't know if I'd start with Emmett. For me, it's Walter Peyton, Barry Sanders, maybe Adrian Peterson, maybe Lydany and Tom Linson. I think Derek Henry is knocking on the mountain. He's knocking on the mountain. But he's not there. Why is he knocking on the mountain? Because the door wasn't there, so he picked the mountain. Knock it on the mountain. I kind of see what, what they were getting at, you know. Do you? Because I don't. I don't know what he's doing there. No, no, no, like the Maclatchee people. Oh, okay. The fastball, the fastball is starting to lose. What does that mean? See, here's the thing. If you say knocking on the door, you're accused of spouting a cliché. I'm not big on clichés. So knocking on the mountain. What happened is. But you're not doing anything if you're knocking on the mountain. No, what happened is I just invented a future cliché. Oh, people are from generations from now. People are saying he's knocking on the mountain, man. Greg, Greg, you knock on the door. Somebody's saying knock on the door. Somebody opens the door. You knock on the mountain. You're just a fool who's knocking on a mountain like what? No, because it's Mount Rushmore. What they say? The four stone faces are looking down, going, who's knocking? Knock, knock, knock in on the mountain door. Doors have mountains have doors. Oh, don't, Greg. Doors have mountains. Mountains have doors. Okay, yeah, listen to me. Mount Rushmore has a door. It's the railings of a loon. Well, boy, Rushmore has a door. So you're knocking on the mountain of Mount Rushmore. Yes. That's what he was saying. Yes. That's what he was trying. And when he the poo, there's a door in a tree. There you go. Very helpful. Thank you. Okay, people I wish McClatchee had laid you off. Okay, Mount Rushmore is clean. The faces on Mount Rushmore are cleaned once every couple of years, I believe. When the team goes up there to steam clean, the big nose of what's his name? There's a door there. That's really disrespect. Oh, boy. The giant, giant features on Mount Rushmore, ears, noses. Yeah, so he's knocking. Anyway, anyway, getting back to that dare, Kenry's knocking on the mountain. For me he's not there yet, so forgive me. I should have put Walter Peyton where I put him at Smith But now we've got a problem. We're doing a show who's knocking on the Show about best running backs ever. Yes, that's the problem. Well, we're really doing a show about doors and mountains Yeah, and by the way the Jim Brown estate would like a word. I mentioned him already Derek Henry 20 almost 2700 carries in his career in the NFL 600 carries at Alabama Can you put them next to each other in terms of yards per carry? Please touch down Give me some stats to support your argument Zaz instead of just doing the prisoner of the moment of shouting the guy I'm watching now is the best guy Derek Henry is 4.9 Barry Sanders was five Emmett Smith 4.2 Give me a moment here, you know, Emma was a little bit of a compiler at the end of his career Give me a moment for the other guys. That's fine. Just make the argument a little bit more Have more arithmetic in it because I don't know where the touchdown numbers are This is also an aesthetic thing right because a couple of the other guys that I mentioned don't run like Derek Henry does Derek Henry and this is something that I celebrate in the storytelling the reason Jim Brown got to be the best Evers because Jim Brown was the most menacing man on a field filled with violence Barry Sanders and Walter Peyton were very good at avoiding it. They weren't running over a whole lot of people What Derek Henry is doing is More physically violent than other people. Yeah, he's he's more in the style of Larry Zonka Franco Harris guys like that But by the way, this is just no no no Greg, but that's that's the part that's not right though He runs away from secondaries like he's not getting caught from behind by anybody He's got a 99 yard run. He's got screen passes that are 80 yards. That is not Larry Zonka That is not a guy who's just big and bruising. That's not even a real Campbell That's Earl Campbell and he's faster than anyone on the field. That's the part that doesn't make sense 11 years in I don't know I I disagree with you on the on Derek and his running stuff What was that? It's your inner monologue is what it is You can tell my inner monologue was here today. Okay. I'll tell you guys what happened He got the joy of the first hour. He's got nothing left like he just we talked about him him his laying off and he's out of material I got everything left I just invented knocking on a mountain and by the way Mount Rushmore is now referred to as Mount Rush door from this point forward Why wasn't it just knocking on the mount pause knocking on the mountain has a ring to it I think can you get closer to the microphone? Yes, please Just very self satisfied with everything that's happened around here. I'm trying to enjoy myself Derek Henry 454 40 at that size pretty good and that power. That's insane. Yeah I look at him next the marketing room. I I think that we can when when I'm talking Some about how we're in the age of mastery I do believe these two things that I'm about to say are Not prisoner of the moment. I think you can make the argument the Russell Westbrook in terms of athleticism is the Most athletic person in the history of basketball. I think you can form the argument Just in terms of athleticism And I think that we can make the argument that Derek Henry there has never been a physical specimen like that at the running back position I might not make him the best running back of all time But I will say there has never been that in a backfield Adrian Peterson was big. He wasn't this He was handshake though. I need to shake Derek Henry's hand before I can really assess this So we've gotten to the point though Greg where the running back everyone tells us is disposable But the Super Bowl MVP was a running back and last night a running back has been gotten by a great organization to protect this part of Patrick Mahomes's career How could that have gone much better in terms of soft landing for Patrick and that you weren't asking him to do very much last night I know he and and he wasn't that good Patrick Mahomes. He was 15 for 27 That's inaccurate by his standards. He he had some rust on him You know, he he had the kind of off game by his standards that if they didn't have that running game I'm not saying they would have lost because they won't handle it and and Kansas City's defenses forever underrated But but now he didn't have to do everything for the first time in his career Did you did you watch the game fully? Did you go to bed early? I watched his watching Roman Reigns come on son I was not watching Roman Reigns or whatever his name is but I live in a house with a woman who loves Who loves um award shows your box score watch your watch at the Emmys. No here's what happened I was forced to watch a lot of the Emmys you know about that mariska hargotae Whatever you said I agree with it and then um four or five times during the Emmys I'm like, let's go back to the football game just to see you know Just as see only you had nine TVs in your house Well, I we only had one of them on so to to your point did I watch every minute of the game because the part that threw me was when you were like They won the game handling and there was a moment there when Denver turned the ball or turned Kansas City over That interception that interceptor exception late in the game right which I had to stay up for because I thought we needed to be prepared by watching the game Yeah, clearly you didn't want to do yeah, I really didn't no, but I love that the Emmys had had an honor area Why are the Emmys on on a Monday? I know because it's on NBC and they had Sunday night football. Yeah, but Dolly Parton got her props on the Emmys which was nice even though nobody associates Dolly Parton with TV Do they what's up with that TV Emmys or TV that was misplaced misplaced honorarium Anyway, I did not watch all of that. Whoa. That is the first negative Dolly Parton opinion I've heard he's bringing back the Scott Mitchell column. I'm I'm blaming. I've referred to it as the damn Reno column I'm I'm blaming the the channel. I'm blaming the Emmys a TV Award show for honoring someone not associated with TV. That's all she deserves everything. I love Dolly Parton always have Down levitar can't wait for 39. Yeah, I can't either 40 comes first Do you know what 40 is yet? Not yet. See, what are we doing Greg? Did you just laugh? Did you just laugh out loud at something Lewis said in your ear? Greg Cody. Yes I couldn't help but it was funny Thanks Lewis And the goose Of course Choking the frog. I mean, there's a million of course half of them would sound dirty if we keep doing it. This is the damn levitar show I got some numbers here for you Dan for best running backs ever. Are you ready for this? All right, here we go Walter Peyton played 13 years 10 of those he had over a thousand yards 4.4 yards to carry 110 total touchdowns. Okay, and it's Smith 15 years 11 with a thousand yards 4.2 yards per carry all time leader 164 you ran this down then Jim Brown Nine years only nine years Jim Brown seven of those thousand yard seasons 5.2 yards per carry 106 touchdowns Barry Sanders 10 years all 10 a thousand yards five yards carry 99 touchdowns and finally Derek Henry He's in his 11th year. He's at 7,000 yard seasons 4.9 yards to carry 122 touchdowns third most all time if he plays another four seasons. He will definitely surpass them at Smith That's a lot maybe three seasons maybe three. Oh, but now he makes if you were just listening I know Chris wasn't because he tunes out as soon as a first number is uttered He does not like to do arithmetic who won there? Well who won is Derek Henry in four years if he stays healthy like if he'll have he'll have numbers that he clips What won are you ready for the catchphrases always It was a layout. Let's do let's do the catchphrases now Let's go where are we? Is there one? Yeah, you mentioned that okay. You can never mention it enough The catch the catchphrases are down to number two But after we reveal number two we have a major announcement to make oh now Are you ready? Well, okay. I think I am Can I ask just a really quick question about the who won? Yeah, why did you like that yet? No, that's what I'm asking what I'm asking about is is why do you say it kind of like With a tremble like an old woman haunting. Yes. Yeah, haunting like that if you put that in an audio haunted house Please create that for who won? Yes, the who won being spoken and gonna create our own haunted house This Halloween and that will be this is haunting that she's right when she says that if I'm walking through a house That is creepy at midnight and I don't know whether I'm alone And I don't know if the spirit world is involved in what it is that I'm experiencing and I hear this from behind the wall Who won? Terrify Tristan answer your question. It's his mom my grandma We would always play golf me my dad and my uncle I am like 20 strokes better than both of them So it's very obvious every time who won but we would come back from Golf in my sweet little 90 something year old grandma would just be like who won And it was always me. I would love that explanation for all 70 of these I would I think we need to have like a bit of an oral history on all of them So people have some record keeping yeah my mom's been asking me to go by the house and just look through some things So that I know what everything in the family means I think you should have somewhere an oral history as an heirloom. Yeah, all 70 Explanations for what these things meant because when he's gone no one's gonna care well here's the thing Yeah, people will care the catchphrase countdown will live on I know but it needs to live on the most rushed door of podcast bits Number 70 number 70. Podcast Summary

Key Points:

  1. The Chiefs’ organizational evolution, especially through protecting Patrick Mahomes with a strong running game led by Kenneth Walker, demonstrates how great teams age gracefully by investing in complementary assets rather than relying solely on aging quarterbacks.
  2. The Broncos’ deep roster and defensive strength—highlighted by Troy Ackman—show a team built to compete at the highest level, yet their loss to Kansas City reveals that even elite teams can be outmatched by superior team dynamics and execution.
  3. Derek Henry’s extraordinary longevity and performance, including 7,000+ career yards and 122 touchdowns over 11 seasons, challenge the notion that running backs are disposable, and his case exemplifies how innovative organizations exploit market inefficiencies to build sustainable success.

Summary:

FAQs

The Chiefs focused on protecting Mahomes by developing a strong running game with Kenneth Walker, reducing his workload and allowing him to play with less pressure, especially after his injury recovery.

The Broncos invested in a deep wide receiver room and a strong running game, showing a shift in strategy to build a more balanced offense, which improved their overall competitiveness despite lacking a dominant defense.

Kenneth Walker has consistently produced over 1,000 rushing yards and is among the league leaders in rushing yards per carry, demonstrating elite physical durability and effectiveness.

Derek Henry, despite being in his 11th year, maintains high yardage and touchdown totals, showing exceptional longevity and performance without significant decline, which is rare for running backs at that stage of their careers.

It provides a reliable offensive floor, reduces reliance on a single quarterback, and creates a more balanced, resilient team that can succeed even if Mahomes’ performance dips due to age or injury.

While Bo Nix shows strong fourth-quarter comeback ability, the Chiefs' approach emphasizes stability and protection, showing that effective team management can extend a quarterback’s prime through smart, balanced play.
