>> The rewatching bus is brought to you by the ringer podcast network where you can find the big picture with Sean fantasy, yeah, you find the watch. >> A small picture with Chris Ryan, what are you watching these days here? >> industry. We're watching the pit. We're watching "Night of the Seven Kingdoms." >> Industry is just a deprave show. >> It really is. It's really. >> It's really sexually volatile. >> One of the most volatile shows that's ever been created. >> I got to say "Night of the Seven Kingdoms" A+. >> Yeah, man. >> I'm having a great time. I haven't enjoyed a TV show like that in 10 years. >> Home run episode last night if this is going up on Monday. >> You know what else is going up on Monday? It's a golden eye! >> Golden eyes next. >> Golden eyes, 1995 James Bond, Pierce Brosden. Best Bond movies by era, here's my list. Gold finger, spy who loved me, golden eye, casino ray out, fight me. >> I don't know if this is for the actors. >> Just those, I think are the four generationally the best. That's like the Dr. J. Michael Jordan, Koby. >> Are you a majesty secret service person? >> I don't think I agree with any of those. >> Yeah, that's why I said fight me. >> That's interesting. >> Yeah, because you like Skyfall, so I love your favorite Craig Bond. >> I think from Russia with love is my favorite Conry Bond. >> That's probably the best Conry. I like you only live twice for the gadgets. That's the Japan one. >> Right. That one's fun. >> I have a soft spot for MoonRaker. >> So, MoonRaker, critically reviled, but I loved it too, because I saw it when I was 10 and I just thought Jaws was the scariest person. And plus it was like a Star Wars kind of parody. >> Yeah, it's like a Star Wars rip off and it's really silly, but it's very fun. I thought MoonRaker was going to be the end of Bond. I mean, I didn't like when I was watching them, I was just like, this has to be where it ends in space. >> So, what's your favorite? >> Skyfall. This is my favorite James Bond. >> Skyfall. >> Because you know, Royale is darn good and it's interesting that you've got two Martin Campbell movies on your list. >> I know. >> Yeah. >> I know, I didn't fully realize. >> You're doing it by era. >> I'm doing it by silliness to seriousness and to me, GoldenEye is right where I want it to be. It's not too goofy and camp, but it is not as like trauma bond as some of the leap period Craig stuff. And that's why I think it's like one of the more rewatchable and one of the more like entertaining bonds. >> What's your relationship with the Bond series? >> It was not a Bond guy for years and years, wasn't raised with it. I think we talked about it a little bit when we talked about Casino Royale. I'm not an angle file, I never read the books. And I think I, this is the first Bond movie I ever saw. But I don't know that I raced out to see the other bras and then bonds. And it was the Craig movies that really got me into it and then digging back in and exploring. And over the years, I've gotten more interested in it, especially doing a lot of conversations about Bond as the Craig era ended. But I think I've really come to appreciate its charms in the last three or four years. It's been helpful to be talking about it regularly and to learn more. It's great movie history. There's so much interesting stuff that has happened across 60 years of the franchise that I find fun. I'm not, I'm not like a Bondologist. I don't know everything about it. So it's actually, I'm a little bit on the outside of it. >> That's how, that's where I am as well, because even growing up, but Roger Moore was probably my peak bond because we saw those movies in the theater. But they were just, those movies in Westerns just seem like they were on all the time. >> Yeah, the, and that's how I kind of, my experience with them was just jumping into them as a kid during different parts. >> The TVS Bond marathon was a staple of my childhood. >> Even before that, when it was like the local, what was your local Philly channel that showed movies? >> Oh, channel like me 17 did. >> Yeah, yeah. >> Yeah, I'm 56 and it was just, they had Bond movies on. >> Yeah, I mean, I remember, I think one of the reasons why sometimes I can't quite identify specific Bond movies is because my memory of them is being on for nine hours during a day in the summer and coming in and being like, oh, like, he's having sex with twins. >> Yeah. >> He jumped out of a hot air balloon, like. >> Yeah, and that normalized that behavior for you going forward. >> Yeah, I guess this is what espionage is, but yeah, like, I really enjoy these movies. I think that they are, I like appreciate them exactly the right amount. One time, I think whether it was, can we remember when we talked about this, but I was like starting to get into like some of the theories around Bond and like people trying to basically create a text for the entire characters in the films and I was like, it doesn't really support this. Like, I think it helps to just have like a one and done for each movie relationship and not worry about whether or not this is actually the character has been played by many men who have to become James Bond when they get this job and- >> Yeah, but there was a big connery shadow over this franchise. >> Yeah. >> The entire time I grew up and it was almost like how people talk about the NBA now or it's like it was better in the Jordan era or like the Barclay guys and it's like, it was always like what Bond was tanking. >> Yeah, it was like, hi. Yeah, it was great. >> Yeah. >> But it was like, I mean, whatever. It peaked with Connery, I'll never, Connery is the best Bond ever. And then I remember when he came back as kind of older James Bond, that was a big deal. Roger Moore, it seems like people turned out. >> Is that never say never? >> It was 1983 when Connery comes back. >> Connery comes back in '71 after taking on her majesty's secret service off and comes back for. >> Last time he came in on that one. >> Last time he came in was tough. >> He comes in for Diamonds or Forever. >> Right. >> And then he comes back 12 years later. >> That was the one. >> And it was a big deal that he was back. But it's got, in '71, '80, '83 the rug is going so hard like it's the most obvious rug in movie history. >> Well, it's fine. All these movies are on Netflix down. You can go back now and watch an ad and it just looks like he has the fairway from the 15th hole in his head. >> It's crazy in the '83 one. >> It really is. >> And it's just like 23 chicks just being like, hey. >> Yeah. >> How's it going? >> It's like a swab. >> Yeah. >> Do we think, as this franchise above, do we think Mission Impossible and Born cuts the legs out of this franchise? I think that's a fair thing to say. >> I do. I do. I think when you look at specifically Golden Eye and you see the kind of stunt work that is being done in Golden Eye, which is excellent, they Mission Impossible grab the mantle and it kind of ran with an Mission Impossible one comes out one year later and Tom Cruise has just spent the last 30 years upping the ante every time and I think that's one of the reasons why the Craig movies became so much more about the psychology and the kind of the damage history of England and the bond character and the way that they're intertwined because they kind of couldn't go too much further to your point about like Moonraker fell like the end because they had pushed it so far so many times. It's interesting too because I think I mentioned this when we did a born movie on rewatchables but there is this like, it's since been called like Nokia Wave or Nokia Wave, which is like a kind of techno friendly thriller from this era that the Mission Impossible and Born movies really perfect with, you know, like the hard case laptops and like early surveillance and like hackers and stuff like that. And I think there's some fun stuff with that in this movie. But bond is Q and Q is this pen will explode. He's not like I'm hacking. He's not like we can do gadgets and girls and a couple of chasing like the way that Ethan Holland constantly. It was cards. I mean, we don't know what it's going to be now because they did do this Craig run and now there's going to be a new bond, obviously, that didn't even knew it was making a film of we don't know who it is. I think it's calendar. It seems like calendar. But like what are they going to do to reinvent having this was the fourth re-invention of bond with bros and the fifth, the fifth re-invention of bond bond? And number seven is going to be really challenging. Yeah. What's your relationship with bond, Craig? The video game. 1997. I think I got an N64. I'm so glad we're talking about this. I think it was a golden eye game came out. Yeah. I knew Pierce Brosnan was bond. And the Mrs. Doubtfire guy. Yes. And I remember that being kind of weird. But I never saw the actual Brosnan bond, the first ones I saw were Craig. But the video game was awesome. It had like the coolest music ever, the pause music. I remember on Golden Eye 007 was like way better than it needed to be. Great game. It's the enduring legacy of the movie. Yeah. I mean, that's how we ended up doing this for rewatchables. We were talking about the Golden Eye game. This and perfect dark. I don't know if it's built on like the same game engine or whatever. It is. Yeah. It's basically like a spiritual sequel. It's basically a spiritual sequel. And this game had- It came out two years after the movie. Yeah. And it had multiplayer. You could sit there with your friends and get stoned and listen to Wu Tang Clan, which I did. And play Golden Eye for eight hours. Yeah. Yeah. I'm going to put a nuclear bomb on your lap. Goodbye. Put on Requad. This was the best time in my life. Honestly, I've never been- Yeah. Just created David Dees. Just really was unbelievable. Yeah. You just did dumb shit and that'd be judged. It was a really fun time. I remember it well. I was a teenager when it came out. And we were not an N64 household. We had a PlayStation. And so- You had GameCube. We had two. I was a Sega Genesis kid and then I was a PlayStation kid. And so we went to my friend Dave Brown's house and did the same thing even though we were only 15. I never played this game because I thought it glorified guns. That's not true. No. Did you ever play this game? I did. I used to play more sports games though. Okay. I was like, Tecmo Ball and Madden and the golf game and Tockey. I was always gravitated that way. I feel like the reason this game is so important. The number one reason, there are probably a few reasons, is it's the first mainstream non-gamer first-person shooter. Like Doom had existed for years before this, but he played on a computer. And maybe there had been some console version of it, but I don't think before this, and the virtual cop was also-- I researched this. It's credited as being the first good first-person shooter game, but also with the multiplayer thing. It basically, this is Grand Zero for all the games that came after. Yeah, there's also, I remember, it kind of did have, at that time, it felt very tactile, the globetrotting excitement of Bond, because you would play-- there was like a Russian level, there was like a submarine level, you play on the Riviera, the extent that my frontal movement was going-- The music was good. I was like, this is really amazing. Yeah, the music was awesome. So they said it sold over 8 million copies, and it was the third biggest Nintendo 64 game ever. 8 million copies really means like 30 million, because think of how many people probably-- guys in their 20s living together or guys in college who probably pulled money together to buy a copy. Well, there's any example, sure, we'll hear about it, of a game based on a movie where the game is bigger than a movie. Or it had like a longer legacy, yeah. It says, even now, I was looking up someone like the best video game ever, the best pieces that people write. It's in all of them. Yeah, it's just like-- I think it's a midgie, it has to be put in. It's like a turning point in video games. I mean, my video game experience basically ends in 2005, but this is probably the right dead set in the middle, because I think I got an NES in like 1990, and it definitely-- every single 15-year-old guy friend I had wanted to play this game every day. And I can't remember other than Madden and College having that experience. Yeah. The other thing with this was they finally got Pierce Brothers in his bond. And I remember that being like the Iranian hostage crisis for trying to get him out of Remington Steel. It started in '86. They tried to get him before Dalton, right? Yes. Remington Steel hits in 1982. A show that I watched every once in a while, because I had a crush on Stephanie Zimbush. It was one of the 190 people I had a crush on back in 1982. Can you explain what Remington Steel was? He-- it was like a spy show, and they kind of worked together. It was a little on the heart versus heart corner, or whatever that show was, but he was just so clearly, like, this guy's gonna be the next James Bond. He checked every James Bond box, and then when James Bond finally became available in '86, and then he was gonna do it, and then they renewed the show. And it was like an actual Hollywood story. Yeah. Like, this guy wants to do Bond. He served as Remington Steel stunt. But at that time, he did shows for five years, and you couldn't get out. And that was it. So he had to pass it up, they ended up going to Timothy Dalton. And ironically, the reason Dalton's not this Bond, and a lot of people have commented on, "Golden-eye feeling more like a Dalton Bond, than what would come from Brosnan after, is because Dalton was waiting for the script and waiting for the script, and then when the script finally came, he's like, "Oh, I'll do this one." They were like, "We can't sign you up for just one." And they wanted to do it, it's gonna be like another five years or another three movies or whatever it was gonna be. And then he was just like-- The Brosnan was available at that point. And Brosnan was available. Yeah, six-year hiatus. They had some legal disputes. Well, I mean-- The broccoli family versus MGM. Yeah, MGM off shit. I mean, that's a huge moment in Hollywood history where MGM is basically defrauded by its acquirer, and then it goes into a holding company from a Swiss bank or French bank. And then one of the major movie studios is in this kind of limbo ownership period. And of course, James Bond is right at the center of that studio. It's the reason why ultimately Amazon bought MGM in the first place is the ultimate value James Bond. And then bought out the broccoli. Yeah. It's an unbelievable time for movies compared to now. I felt like I had so much awareness of this while in that 'cause Premier Magazine would be running about every month. Sure. And it seemed like every company was going bankrupt or being defrauded or there, or there would be the reverse, like Castle Rock coming out of nowhere, or Miramax. I wonder how our relationship to stuff like Warner Bros. Netflix Paramount would be if we read one great piece about it a month, rather than like. We're about it every single day. Or it was just like, there was a book like Hidden Run. Yes. You know, where it was just like, here's the total story of this era at this studio. But we don't, it doesn't come like that. We have the town with Matt Bellinger. But I know exactly what you mean. I feel like I had like a more. Like a better grasp. Fun relationship to this stuff because I was like, cool, great article explaining why this actor can't get out of a contract or something. Well, remember when Peter Goober and John Peters took over Sony, which became the book. But when they were covering that in real time, it would just be like every three months, there would be another crazy story about like, these guys are fucking just setting money on fire and grush and blow torch yet. Yeah. And you know, this isn't sitting on it, right? She was writing those articles. But then it would be. Then you fare a premiere, but it was sometimes New York Magazine, but it would really be. Otherwise, it was the trades, right? But before reading the trades online then. Yeah. And then you had like even like the small. Like we talked on rewatch. It was for about Caroco, which was doing all like the Stallone and Schwarzenegger and Vandam. And all of a sudden they went down. I've never been more excited for a movie than James Cameron's Spider-Man funded by Caroco. And it never happened. Yeah. But I remember reading about that and being like, just put that inside me when I was 13 years old. So this was. So this was a great job of, of course, of the years, but bond where it's like, even as maybe the interest in the franchise wings, which it seems to every four movies or whatever, they're just really good at creating a trade deadline of like, who are we going to pick up to play bond? And it turns into something that's bigger than the movies themselves. Which was why. What did they go for? What did the franchise go for? Amazon bought it, right? Well, I don't know what the final number was for the buy-on. I mean, you know, billions of dollars. Well, then they had to buy out the broccoli, right? Yeah. Because they paid $8 billion as our call for MGM total. But MGM doesn't own James Bond, obviously. So they did a separate deal for a year ago for that. Part of that apparently was just because the broccoli was just sick of dealing with Amazon and didn't like Amazon. And Amazon wants to be able to make Ms. Moneypenny prestige TV show or whatever. And Bezos was like at the end of the dinner after they'd ordered the fourth bottle of wine and he got the cheque for MGM and broccoli. He's like, is that $9.2 billion? Did we do this? And now all of a sudden, all the movies are on Netflix. Like, hey, can we offload this anywhere? Yeah. I mean, that's a complicated aspect of it. But they just, they have to get the movie right. They hired Denis Villeneuve. I think he'll get it right. And I'm really worried. They went over the movie nerds immediately. Do you know who's writing it? I don't know. 17. 17. I don't know. 17. Do you know who's the most accomplished director to ever handle a Bond movie? Depends on how you define that. Yeah. Like Michael Apte had made one of the Pierce Brosnan movies and he's like a claimed filmmaker who's got a lot of ups and downs. But Denis is probably the best big tent film. Yeah. I mean, it had been rumored for a long time that Nolan would be interested. Tarantino has been interested by doing like a basically very Tarantino-esque re-imagining of it. I think they've approached Spielberg multiple times. But I think they've essentially made three Bond movies. They would have started another World War. I think if Tarantino had done a Bond movie, I think England would have just tried to invade us. My favorite two what ifs are Tarantino Star Trek and Tarantino Bond. Like that's just so fascinating to me. What would have happened in those frames? Tarantino Bond would have been just on heroin. Yeah. No, I would say he has to be the best director. He's probably the first time a top five director has done a Bond movie. I think somebody who's consensus like in the top five now. Do you think James Bond is still the coolest role you can book in Hollywood? It is in England for what it's worth. I mean, I think for a British actor. Because 10 years ago you could probably say it was a superhero. I don't know if that's the case now. Is it is it bonds? I still think Batman's the coolest role. I think that's something that's like the super goal winning NFL quarterback. There's like three or four or five rules where it's like your fucking life's about to change. Like you think you're famous now. Yeah. You think you've got pop rotsie following you now. You think people are specular like your life is going to change your Superman. Batman's Spider-Man Bond. Superman Batman Bond. Yeah. I wonder who else that like. Jamie Vance, that's one of them. What's the other one? Hamnet. Hamnet, yeah. That's the other one. Blue guy. It's Kobe Juke. Get ready for change forever. Have you watched Jesse Buckley sing? Yeah. There's a movie called Wild Rose. Yeah. Every human has to watch. Where Jesse Buckley plays like an aspiring country in western singer. Who is from. She's either Scottish or Irish in the film. I can't remember. And she sings like nine country western songs. One is a fucking heater. It's a movie that maybe fall in love with her. I went out at two hours deep dive of just talk show appearances. And like, she might be the best. She might be the coolest thing in the world. She got her start on a singing talent show in the UK. I mean, she's Irish actually one. I actually know she's cool. Hamnet last night. You did. I liked it. You did. You're the mood for a comedy. I liked it. That's great. Yeah. Nice. Good for you. Well, you're a little late on it. Sorry. Not a hype at this point. It was mixed. Mixed hype. Bill's got a lot of him. He really does. It's one of those. I thought it was the best female performance of the decade. Bill Simmons. Hamnet. Put it against any other performance. Wow. Yeah. For real. You're hamnet and train. Six years. This is really interesting to me. Six years of best actress performances. What was better than that? I keep launching guitars up there for me. That's pretty good. God damn it. That's a good one. She didn't win. But that's up there. She was unbelievable in that. And she learned how to be a conductor. Yeah. That's pretty good. Yeah. I don't know. Hamnet really reached into my soul. I love to see you emotional. Yeah. Wait. Well, I wasn't expecting it. I think that was the thing. Speaking of emotional. - Bunk of Jensen. (laughs) - Broccoli and Chelth was declining. - Halberts, yeah. - And he died seven months after this movie. And this was also the first movie that didn't use any story elements from the Inflaming books. They were just like, we're gonna audible. But as Chris said earlier, feels kind of the most bondy. It starts out with the big chase scene in the beginning. We have two hot girls. We have a gadget scene. We have a car chase. We have a crazy tank scene. - Yeah, you're right. Fun ending with like in like a big apparatus. - Brushes in the story. - Yeah, yeah. - There's like some sort of confusing Cold War plot. Like it kind of, if you're gonna do a checklist of things that should be in a bond movie, it might check the most boxes. - It's a really good point. - Good villain. - Great villain. - I don't really have a lot of-- - One of my favorite bond villains, I wish they had done more with that character. - Yeah. So the reboot, this is the first bond film after Berlin Wall collapses, collapse of the USSR, end of the Cold War. It's the first one that uses CGI. It casts a female M, which was a big deal to people. - He doesn't see gender. - Well, it's just like back then they were like, what? It's gonna be a female? Now it's like, yeah. - It's smart to cast one of the most better venerated actors. - It's the same as actress to play M. And then the bond girls, Fom could Janssen. - Easily in the top 10 bond girls for me. - Easily. - Oh, top five for me. - It's fine. It's a question of whether she counts as a bond girl because she's also a villain. - Yeah, there's so many of those over the years. - This is a rare movie that has two bond girls together, but one's the hero and the other is actually a villain, but they count as two bond girls. - But they do that, I think, throughout the Brosna movies. Don't they? There's like a couple of, what happened? - Yeah, there's a Dr. Christmas Jones. - Yeah. - Dr. Christmas came twice. - Um, there's Halle Berry. She's also, what is she? - But is there an astrophysicist as well? - I guess you're right. I hadn't thought about it like that. That there's more. - I think it's unusual for the villain to outstrip the love partner and sexist and appeal. - Yeah. - You know, like there's always something a little bit more kind of vindictive in people. - With that said, I love Isabel Scroopka in this. Really strange Wikipedia. - I am DB, this was the peak. - I had doubt, I really wanted to talk about her. - That's the round after, but I think she's throwing 99 in this and then Faulkay's throwing like 107. - Yeah. - Faulkay's on Star Wars. - I don't know what she's doing in this movie, but I love it. I love every second of it. - I'll hold my Isabella comments for later in the episode. - So top bond girl ever, what do you have? Here's my top three. Barbara Bach, Talisa Soto, I thought was just incredible. - Talisa Soto is incredible. - Very good one. - I just don't understand why she was in a massive star. And then Pussy, Galore just, half the name. - Yeah. - But just everything in that scene, that movie is so sexually loaded for this weird error to make that movie. Everything, it's just dripping in you window. But I think that's my top three. - Eva Green is really. - Eva Green's a good one too. - In my zone. - That's a good one. All right, I'll make it for her. - I think Pussy and Galore is probably up there. Who's the one and man with a golden gun? What's her character's name? - I'm Blankin. - All right man, now we're all gonna be Googling stuff. - So, Fanka Janssen, Dutch model, six feet tall. Was on TV. - Man with a golden gun, the character's married good night. - Yeah. - Brit Eclin. - Brit Eclin, yeah. - Oh, Brit Eclin. - Yeah, of course. - Does some TV stuff really important Melrose place appearance? - What happened, what you do? - Played a hooker that. - Fanka? - That Dr. Michael Manceini hired, call girl. - Lady of the night? - Sex worker, yeah. - That uh, when Michael Manceini's ex- - She's played a whole. - Well, she was. Michael Manceini's ex-wife Jane was dating this lawyer who did their divorce. Michael Manceini gets this lady to sleep with them, videotapes it, sends it to Jane, breaks them up. That was how I met Fanka Janssen. Like, who is this? Ends up in bond, plays rounders, gets shut down by Mike McDee, the most controversial scene of the 90s. Like she's like, no, no, I'm good. No thanks. She's in the faculty. - Yep. - Yes. - A lot of people are in the faculty. - Yeah, Janssen. - We haven't done a faculty house. - It's been knocking on the door. - Hey man, whenever you want. - Saw the theater. - I just watched it recently. - Who did? - Yeah, she was great. - That was an event. - She's an ex-man, nipped-tuck apparently, and then taken Frances. - Mm-hmm. - Yeah. - I think ex-man is definitely her, the thing she's best known for at this point, 'cause she was in Jean Grant, so many of us moved around. And maybe in this room going forward, is Zenia on a top? - Just special. Special performance. - On a top. (laughing) I don't even understand it. - It's so close to Ivana Humplett. It's like, it's like so almost on the verge of being off. - Zenia on a top. - That's another reason why Craig is right. I think they're golden eye. The game is the most kind of memorable aspect of this, but so much of Austin Powers. - I had that coming later, yeah. - Let's do it now. - Zenia on a top is just a lot of vagina. - Of course that is the same character. - No, it's clear they watched this movie 10 times as they were right in the Austin Powers. There's no question. - Yes. - They were trying to pull a whole bunch of things off. - Austin Powers still. He, five out of five. - Sean Bean is the bad guy. And he had auditioned to play-- - Oh, oh, six. - Mm-hmm. - Turns out this was his worst plan other than when he decided to confront Queen Cersei tell her about, he knew about the incest baby. - Tough one. - That was probably Sean Bean's dumbest moment. - Probably. - What are you up to in the Throne's rewatch for a song? - That's season two now. - I think we can't be standing in the Queen Cersei. As Boramiro being like, I can hold this ring. I got this. - Been doing a lot of Targaryen, Barathe, and History, and I was told because of a night of the Seven Kingdoms. - You're just trying to figure out lineages, yeah. - Complicated. - Yeah. - He's got a lot of Targaryen's gates in there, you know? - Targaryen all the way through and the Baratheans can. - Until one moment, David and Targaryen. - I like oh, six though, 'cause there's like a little backstory. It's not just like a typical, I'm an evil villain. I want to take over shit. - Oh yeah. - It's a good idea. - He's a precursor for Bardem in Skyfall, which is like the, we were both spies. They broke me, you know? - And, but this guy, I mean, he's got like, basically a lifelong vendetta against-- - The whole thing about these things. - The whole thing about Cosax is just a good idea. It's a, it's really cleverly quit and constructed. - My biggest issue with these movies is when the person feels betrayed by England and wants to like, you know, commit a bunch of bad shit. I'm always like, I kind of see his point in England sucks. - There you go. - Yeah. - You know, I agree. - He's making some anti-colonial, Bill. - Yeah. Well, we live in America and my family is from Ireland, so England can fuck off. - Yeah, I mean, you know, 1773, they would have blown Boston into the fucking ocean. Now we have 14 titles, the century. - Fuckers. - That's right. - You only think stopping. - Yeah. - Tom Brady was fucking, King George. - Directed by Martin Campbell. First non-brit to direct a bond movie. And there's like 1700 writers and rewriters for this. They just kept-- - It's also like the acutely true lies was a little close to the original story. - They had to fix it. And stuff with the true lies script, this script, and the mission impossible movie of like, kind of what came first, what was sort of written down first, who had certain ideas first. But yeah, this was the accumulation of a bunch of drafts that they had done for the next bond movie, some of which like there was one with the American Mafia, there's one with like, it's all interesting to go back and listen. - And the movies are still done this way. You know, these huge movies that have, you know, two credited writers, but they're not the original writers of this story by credit. And then you have five other people who took a whack and stuff to add to it. - Yeah, usually that happens over two years. - Yeah, six with like the Cold War happening, and then two competing projects that were on the corner. - I got confused watching the rewatching the movie today or yesterday because I thought when it starts and it's the USSR, I was like, so was this like a period piece? Like I had forgotten that they zoom ahead to the future because it's like almost exactly that period of time that goes by between movies. 60 million dollar budget made $356.4 million. It's the fourth biggest 1995 movie, which was not a small movie here. - It was the biggest bond. - Biggest bond since Moon Raker. - Yeah. - Moon Raker crushed. People are like, add or space, bonds. - Yeah, Jaws. - Jaws got to go. - Going, going twice. - 130 minutes. So on the Craig Century Club, this is a plus 30. - Probably could have lost 10, 12 minutes. - I think you can say that about every single bond movie. I think every single bond movie is just a little too long for it. - From about minute 35 to minute 70, I could have done 20 minutes. - You get to Cuba and you're like, man, we still got 40 minutes. - Yeah, it's a weirdly structured movie. The actual mission of the movie does not get introduced until 45 minutes in, which is quite, it's atypical for bond movies. - Yeah, we could have zoomed in a little bit. - Our guy, Roger Ebert, three stars. The first bond film that is so-for-where, that has lost its innocence in the simplicity of this world view. - I mean, this is any, man, you know. - Roger wanted to get squeezed out. - This is, yeah, on the top of Roger, right? - It has some understanding of the absurdity and sadness of Ateera. - On the top of Roger. You know, just picture that, you know, put him in one of those general outfits. He didn't. He actually their view wasn't as horny as I thought it was. Yeah, it wasn't. But you know, I mean, you know, he said all the later bonds suffer from the reality that no one else, however, really replaced Sean Connery. I had a good enough time, I guess, although I never really got involved, I was shaken, but not stirred. Banger. Banger. So glad we get to keep him alive on the pot every week. Fucking banger. I was shaking, but that's third. He's like, thanks sense, yeah, yes, no edits on a Schlitz, so good. All right. We're going to take a break and then we'll do most rewatchable scenes. Most rewatchable scene, the opening scenes, fucking awesome. Yep. We got to put some context around bungee jumping 1996. 1995. I don't know if I'd ever seen a bungee jump before I feel like it's about to be a pex mountain for bungee jumping though, right? Like, they were starting to introduce it in theme parks where you do like many versions of it at action park. And then it became in the 90s, you would start to see people being like, I'm going to the craziest bridge in the world. Like MTV started showing like hardcore action. Yeah, there's also like, I feel like it's a trope in action movies of this time period for the main character to really a enjoy it and be the bodimove of like, you think we're just having a regular conversation. And then I just leap off the building and it's like, no, no, it's like he's also like right at the advent of the X games and skating and that whole world. Yeah, it's cool. So we have just an awesome bungee jump that's filmed really well with some wall. You're like, where the fuck is this? He lands. He upside down punches. The guy taking a shit. Pretty good. Pretty good move. I probably wait for the flush before I attack the guy immediately goes, he's like, sorry, forgot to knock, you know, immediately with a bond line gets away from somewhere between 30 and 100 Russians on a small space. And then does an outrageous motorcycle plane jump on about eight minutes. Yeah. I have some thoughts on that we can do the picket knits now of the freestyle jump into the plane, catching it, being able to get in and then turning the plane out. My favorite part of this whole sequence is it seems like Travathian was able to get to the same point without having to bungee jump and dive into a tour of the high discipline. Yeah. I mean, I was thinking about making my flex category, the Dan Campbell scale for holy shit. Are they really going for this right now, which is him like jumping off the ledge and catching the plane? I think it's the exact same thing. And we're like, both are second jumping, yeah, what was the idea here? Yeah. They're going for it. Yeah. Yeah. There's a few of these in this movie where even by bond standards, I'm like, for real deals. Right. But clearly Tom Cruise saw this and was like, I'll base the next 30 years of my life on this. Yeah. Don't you kind of think just from a stunt perspective, I know he didn't actually do that obviously. But for the character doing a stunt in a movie, that is a crazier stunt than anything Ethan Hunt has ever done. I think so. I think it's cool to jump down to hanging on the plane, you know, hanging on a biplane for 20 minutes. It's remarkable. Eight mission impossible. And I don't think there's a stunt cooler than that because it, it, it, there's no reality to it. There's like, it is, it will break your brain. But it doesn't look that fake. No, no, I believe that Washington, a bunch of jump was 722 feet, which was a record when they did it. Somebody had ever done that before was filmed in the concert, damn in Switzerland. And then that second stunt was awesome too. Then he's like, trying to get the joy stick. Yeah. Oh, I got it. I'm out. Really good. Second scene, the car chase. We have an Aston Martin DBS against a Ferrari F355 old versus new. Like a little LeBron versus Victor Wendell at the All-Star game and he thoughts on which, which one of those would you rather drive? The Ferrari's toasting the Aston Martin because it's an older car. It's a race no chance. He's also, is he on a date like what's going on sort of a day? I think that's his therapist or something. No, no, it's it's money penny. No, it's not. Isn't it? No, it's a different woman. No, it's it's not money penny. She's like HR or something. Yeah, it's not money. No, it's like I looked it up. It's like, it's like the woman who's supposed to like clear him psychologically to work. It's the only one that gets money pennies in the home. That's so confusing. Because she kind of looks like she's not having sex with her on a cliff. So I don't know how the session went. I don't know if that's yet to pay extra. It's not as therapist. I think it's like his work assigned therapist or something. Yeah, it is. She's sent to do like a wellness check on him or like I thought it was more like HR to make sure you weren't breaking the rules kind of thing. James, you're incorrigible. Who would have loved it? Serena Gordon is Caroline and MI6 Psychological and Psychiatric Evaluator, whom Bons seduces at the beginning of the film. Wow. Yeah. Great. Yeah. Probably an HR violation. Yeah, Bons was an HR problem. Like HR is like, is it another Bond thing? Fuck. We can't ensure him. I knew we shouldn't have hired that assistant. There's a backer at scene. And we've talked about this, but if you, are you a backer at guy, have you replay it? We do this every time. I mean, it's the one card game. I have no idea what's going on. It seems great. It seems super simple. Yeah. Is it blackjack and poker, but also it has a shoe? It's like something fantasy is going to take on when he turns 50. He's like, I've just become a big backer. I'm coming. I'm a major pie guy guy. I've got a wealth goal. And when I cross the wealth goal, I'll start playing backer at that's my that's my life plan. Yeah. Is it pie guy then backer at or is it right or is it reverse? I got supposed to be like the thing you can play all night, right? I guess it's great because it's just a hangout drink game. It's a game you can just put $100 on the table and play as long as you don't get killed by a dealer. I think backer is kind of the opposite, right? It's like sit down with 50 K. Chris, like you're sitting down with two of Jerry bus's sons and Toby wire. I've never played backer. It is really funny watching the play too because I'm like, are you trying to get 21, but you're drawing another card and it's like, are you trying to get three of a card? I can't tell what's going on. He loses the first hand and wins the second one. I have no idea what happened. He also has a little bit. Like, what did that hit with? Yeah, they're like five and six and you're like, oh, well, six is higher than five. So that's obviously he gets six. Have you ever aggressively gambled against a woman? So that would just be poker? Well, you know, any card game like this? No. You? No. I really only gamble with Zach playing Blackjack and getting nukes playing. Yeah. How about like what that was a very, very attractive woman throwing a hundred seven miles now has a long cigarette holder thing. What are those calls here? I don't know. Yeah. I haven't done that. I don't. I think it's cigarette holder. Okay. When I was in New York, I played in a card game that was a bunch of friends who worked at magazines. And there was one woman who played in the game who worked at one of the magazines, but she was also a rising poker semi pro. And she was very visible on the World Series of Poker a few years in a row. And she was a young, attractive woman. And, you know, I would sit in like a guy's apartment with two poker tables set up and it was like 13 guys and this woman. And she just annihilated every guy. She was a better poker player, but it was the classic thing. I'm just like, she just lulled you to sleep by gentle flirting with you anytime you were in a hand together. And you were like, absolutely. Yeah. For sure. You know my first name? Yeah. Yeah. We're in long hour. I mean, it worked. It really worked. Yeah. You're like golden eye. Yeah. I love that game. I hope the third is your Veele talent. She says that to James at one point. Yeah. Veele. Veele talent. So she's Dutch. And she's, and she's doing Georgia and she's doing Georgian, yeah, Jordan separatist. I guess. Do we want to do this now? Accent corner. I had the Kewakaster Award for Worst Accent. The nominees are Falker Jansen trying to pretend she's Russian when she's Dutch. Alan Cumming is Boris. No. I think he's got like an English accent. It's terrible, but I love it. Yeah. He's going for it. So what would you pick? I mean, Vince. Oh, I think many drivers Russian is pretty bad from this. That's a good one for the stage to give it with her too. So right after they finished Bacharat, James hits the same game Parley of Shake and Not Stirred, Bond, James Bond. He just fucking bangs both of them. Well, us 260 on Fandoise, just like fucking, I'm banging this. And he's just like, I fucking Zenia on the top and he's like, I'm doing the classic shit to you right now. I'm just playing all the hits. Great thing. This is a small scene for a rewatchable, but I really love when James is flirting with Money Penny. And she's, she's hair for it and it ends with what's the penalty and he goes, and she goes, someday you'll have to make good on your innuendos and then they go into the office and like 95 rolls. So many things. Yeah. So good. Money Penny looks great in this movie. I'm trying to imagine like what your version of this would be and be like, where do you have me on your trade value list, is it higher or lower than Sean Kemp, like, what, what was Money Penny's job? She was like the administrative, she ran the office. She sure did. This is such a funny secretary, but like, it's such a funny time for movies because disclosure comes out the same year and it's like, everybody is aware that this is the actual rest then and maybe things in the workplace should change, but then the movies are like, let's be a little dangerous with it too. And now when you watch it 30 years later, it's hilarious like they he would never he'd be afraid to be an elevator with her yeah for two seconds. Yeah. Yeah. He doesn't really seek consent. James Bond is not one of his things. If I what a watch season three of Tell Me Lies with James Bond and money penny. They're like, oh my God. Natalia must get blown up seven times. If that is a rewatch. When Golden night keeps going out, yeah, keeps getting out of how does she she's like a small motion jump under the desk. So the idea there is get under the staircase. So even if the entire building collapses, you'll still survive because you're under a staircase. Yeah. Curious that she gets out of a Siberian location just by walking. No, like sled dogs. Oh, yeah. But gets to St. Petersburg where she can go to an internet cafe. Next thing steam room sex fight. Yep. Shout out to Eastern promises. Interesting porn search for any of the young kids out there. Yeah. That's sort of what it's like when you're watching Game of Thrones. Right. Great. She tries her leg crush move. Good, good wrestling finisher. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm surprised that Vince McMahon diva's era. They didn't have something to do there. Then yeah, on the top. Yeah, the legs of the Janice group. Then he on the top of Sean being the real villain reveal some good Sean being enjoy that. That's a good thing. Oh, six. Yeah, trust the ancient concept. You it's actually reasonable to expect that he would want to do the bond villain thing where he explains the whole plot because it's more interesting to reveal to bond that their connection. Yeah. Is bigger. It's more complicated. That's history. Instead of just I'm an evil villain and I'm after world domination, which gets a little boring and some of the ones. He says bonds parents died in a mountain climbing accident. He does. Good more there. Tough one. Does that get revised in Skyfall or is that I don't believe so? Okay. I sit in orphanage in Skyfall, but is it it's like an orphanage that breeds special agents? Yeah, but it's only for kids whose parents have died in climbing accidents. It's a climbing orphanage. Do you think it was like an avalanche or one of them slipped and they they're trying to save them and they're both died so funny about that. Just go playing crash. I re I rewatch the next two Martin Campbell movies because Martin Campbell fucking rocks. We can talk about him. But the next one is Masca Zoro and then the one after that is vertical limit. Yeah. Which opens the first scene in vertical limit is a father of two of his of a daughter and a son dying in a climbing accident. So it's like was he trying to call back to golden eye? A vertical limit had been more like hamnet where it's like at the very end when it's like I'm hanging on somebody take care of our son Jimmy and then like next scene is my most rewatchable. The tank chase complete with a parier crash. Yes. This scene is just fucking awesome. It is the most reliable. I just can't believe I lost another Dan Campbell. Like when he sees the tank you're like he's getting the tank. Yeah. It's a great 90s device. Have you just see the tank or like earlier when they're on the car chase and you see the by squares going uphill. I'm like okay. Like they did a good job of planning seats. Yeah. The my favorite shot in that whole sequence is when you know bonds got his head out of the tank and he's about to crash into the building and he's like whoop and he pops down in some hell. So I did some research on this. It's very hard for tanks to just move at a speed like this right away. It takes like a mile for them to you call hex up whatever. I think the turns are tough. Yeah, hex up was something that was too hard to do the 90 degree turn. Another tank call sure Bill. I like that they have these cuts to bond. It's just so unrealistic he's driving. We don't know how he's driving the tank. Is there a gas pedal takes usually take more than one person to drive. He's just doing this around the gun part running through the city taking out buildings. He's gonna drive it like a boat. Yeah. It's just awesome when he has complete operational knowledge of any other countries. Yeah. Technology is like what Russian. It's just exactly like the way we do it. What part of secret agent class was that when they came there might be a time when you have to drive a Russian tank. Tank week. Yeah. Zanya out on top dies. This is a great death. So funny. This time Mr. Bond the pleasure will be all mine. It's not. Then he gets off the bond joke. The show is did enjoy a good squeeze. That's that was the Austin powers DNA. Yes. Because he has a couple of those groiners in this and Austin powers Mike Myers was to been like we got a squeeze. With the cutaway to hurt like her whole body strapped to that V shape tree which is such a funny image. It's really it's the probably the goofiest moment. Yeah. The pen scene. Alan Cummings. Flip in the pen. Close up. And then a bond versus being at the end. Good ladder fight. Coming gets frozen to death. I wrote down it looks like they're fighting in a Fortnite set. Yeah. He's going in these secret doors. He's going. You play Fortnite. I'm sure. I'm sure for some people are tired by stuff like this. Some people are going to get this. But yeah. He's hanging one point. Wow. He's going around. It's that the fine. You could jump. You don't want to fall to your death. Yeah. Fortnite influencing right now. I was a little bit. I like that you said talking about it. Like it's a velvet underground leg. He's like some people may not get this before the game. Yeah. That's good. So we off tank for rewatch where would you go bunch and jump? I would I would go tank just because it's the most like holy shit. How did they even do this scene? I do want to add a quick note for a small scene that I really like, which is when bond meets Jack Wade, Joe Don Baker, the same age and their chemistry and driving the tiny card together. I like that scene a lot too. What'd you have for most rewatchable? Opening 12 minutes. I think are pretty elite. Everything leading up to the bond song is as entertaining as it gets. It's a golden eye. I just respected Tina Turner. Written by Edge and Bono. Yeah. Living next story to Tina Turner in France went over and they just concocted this song and they're like, you have it. That should have been her first sign. And you can tell we don't want this. She is just singing in Bono's register. And that's why the song doesn't, doesn't work because they don't, they're not the same standard. There's really not. We had a song either. We had such good music. 1994, 1995, or probably the people involved in the song make great news. I don't understand how they miss on this. It's just, it's the wrong vocalist with the way that the song is written. What's the most 1995 thing about this movie? I have four nominees, but what do you have? I had fall of the Soviet Union into the rise of a corrupt Russia or needing an internet cafe. Oh, I had the same thing. And I also just, those PCs, just like looking at those computers. Yeah. Yeah. I had the computer hacking and the computers. I had harmless sexual attention at work felt very 1995. Tina Turner doing a theme song written by Bono in the edge. Yeah. Has to be in the 90s somewhere. Yeah. But my number one is the BMW Z3. Cause that, that's a huge part of this movie. They basically held the car for six months to debut it in Golden Eye. It's the first German car thing. The first not, not English car in the, in the series, right? You don't might take on this now. Yeah. Never liked them. The Z3. Yeah. You drove a Z. Just, I was thought they were corny. I just thought they're trying too hard to be like Alfa Romeo. It's like stick to your guns, BMW, make the best cars. I wonder if you would have an amazing car pod. You think I should just have a car hot. Take a spin with Bill Simmons. And it's just you being like, let's talk about, let's talk about Aston Martin's. Yeah. We're all for romance. It's called Lane's Aging. And it's just, you know, unexpected car takes not a cool car. It's the kind of car like an English secret agent driving in the car with con, you know, it's just you driving. I wouldn't feel comfortable driving con around. And they did. You think con can apple as a chance at bond in the future? You catch. I'm well aware. Yeah. Well, I heard it slip on a previous pod. And I was like, what happened there? Yeah. It was a guest on a podcast to give him a ride. You don't drive us anywhere. You never have. You showed up in an Uber. I would have been like, I'll give you a ride. In the like 13 through 17 days, I feel like frequently you were like, come on, I'll drive you. And now you're like, eh, you're in a car. Like how am I going to drive? You have a car back then too. You're like, you're really into driving us around. I remember this well. Yeah. Okay. Uh, the BMW Z3 is my answer. It's a new CR. She can't do impressions like double K. What's age the best? Killing someone with your legs during sex as a female villain move still spectacular 31 years later. I didn't who thought of it. Give them an an honorary ask. What do you think about the fact that she's so that she gets off from that? I was going to say one of the thing that age the best is that Fomka Janssen's major acting note in this is, I'm just going to come every five minutes no matter what I'm like playing cards. Yeah. Well, it's dressed. She kind of has an orgasm when she gets her back broken against the trees. She's like, ah, yes. Final one. You know, like, she's both her orgasmic body. Yeah. Uh, Russia Villains a is the best. I have 1990s Joe Don Baker. Mm-hmm. Just coming in hot and different movies at a great stage in this career. I mean, this is just crazy, though. Joe Don Baker was the villain in the previous bottom of it. Yeah, I know. And then he's the he's the CIA guy. Sometimes I feel like they have like, oh, let's just bring him back. I don't have a problem with it. - I love Joe Don Beggar. - The reason it's not Felix is 'cause Felix loses a leg in the previous, is it in license to kill? - Yes, that's right. - The last art movie. - Or is it living day lights? - That's why he got a leg severed, you're it. - But then he comes back. - We mentioned the power thing. And then for what's actually best, the integrated sponsors were BMW, which we mentioned, but then IBM ThinkPad, which launched in '92, this was the '95 model. This was the first computer I ever had. I've had ThinkPad's ever since, but this movie does integrations. Perier, BMW, but they're actually organic. They don't feel like they're ramming them down your throat. They actually factor in the pots, which I appreciate it. What, oh, I had many drivers just being in this movie randomly, and then the poster's really good. - The poster's also good. - This is a good bond poster. - Would you have anything? - I'm Pierce Brosnan, I think. He was well received, not overwhelmingly received, but this obviously, this movie's a big hit. I don't think that the next three movies are all that good, but I do think he's a very good bond, 'cause he kinda splits the difference. And I have like a very overextended Simmons-esque NBA center metaphor for you. - Let's hear it for the bonds. - I like it. - Connery, obviously Bill Russell. Lays and B is Will kind of got one chip. More is Samson. Dalton is Patrick Ewing, clearly Brosnan is Shaq. Daniel Craig is Wembee. Where can we go next? - That's really good. - Try to think of who, we can just left out. - Yeah, I don't, no one's really done that. No one's really had bond for 25 years. - Would you accept Daniel Craig is Embed because that character is often defined by his physical- - Here's the quality. - Embed is one nothing. - And doesn't play. - Okay. - Other than that, I think you're right on. - Skyfall, all those movies are like, oh, you're getting old, you're addicted to drugs, you're an alcoholic and a womanizer. And Embed's none of those things, but it's frail. - But now we can be like, could Callum Turner be Wembee? - Couldn't Daniel Craig be Yokech? - It's like eight physical gifts for the part, but it just gets the job done and it's convincing. - I mean, I like that. - So then Callum Turner has to be, will he be the tallest bond? - Do I know who Callum Turner is? - Did you watch that Master's of the Air movie at all? The show that was on Apple? - He was in the Boys in the Boat. Did you see that? - He's dating Duolipa. - Yeah. I think they're engaged. - He's incredible. - Yeah. - It's a great job by him. - Is he Bond? - People believe he's gonna, I mean, we could do like who should be Bond. There's a whole other one. - But that's not official, right? - No, but it's not a strongly rumor. - And now he's like, they're getting like chased all over Paris by paparazzi. It's like kind of, I feel like it's like turning up. - Do the Bond song or is she in the movie? - It's a no-brainer. - Which would you rather, both? Does she play a Bond role? - I think it's the song, just the song. In the movie is a little too tongue in tune for me. - Yeah, she's a home run. - They would never go, she's a home run. Great at everything. - Yeah. - Get an interviewer. I like everything. - Big breeder, she has a book podcast. - Yeah, yeah. - She's great. - They'd never cross over and go outside the box, right? Do they have like a prototype for Bond? Like they would never do Dania Kahlua or like go- - He was the one, there was, that was before no time to die came back. I think it was more like, what could we do? - I think him and Deb Patel were the only times where it was like, this would have been interesting if they tried this, but there's too much. - They talked about, they went American. - They talked about Idris Elba so long that he got too far. - Yeah, he got too far. - But like, it's funny if they did American now and the Brits all got mad and it's like, now you fucking assholes know how we feel when you take off our American parts. - That's some jerks. - You're still mad about this. - Would you have Austin Butler stay in your own country? - Do a British accent, though, or would you have him be like the American guy? - No, I think Bond has to be English, which goes back to the Brasden conversation. I don't think he was the best Bond, but if AI spat out what Bond would be, he would spit out Pierce Brosden. He's like AI Bond. - And like you said, it felt like even in '86 they knew, they were just like, this guy's born to be, even though his Irish, he's born to be Bond. But he was 42 when he got the part, which is, I think by far the oldest of any actor. - Four movies or three. - He did four, four, yeah. - 'Cause some of the people will talk about casting woodiffs, but one in particular was Hugh Grant at some momentum. And I just don't think he could have been Bond. I don't see it. - I think he knew it. - Never would have worked. - And more interesting one. - He wouldn't ruin it. - You want to wait for casting woodiffs? - We can do it. - I mean, the most interesting one is Liam Neeson. - Yeah. - That would have been different, but it would have been closer, I think, to ultimately what Daniel Craig was, was like earlier, tougher, bigger, you know, kind of like somebody who needs to be physical in the part, in a way that Bond is not historically. - And carrying a lot of pain around. Like he would have to have like a dramatic take on Bond. - Plus famously in doubt, Liam Neeson. - That's true. - That's true. - You think you would have been the first Bond to whip it out? - I just think that you would have been full frontal, yeah. - I think we would have fit the part. - That would be a good way to end a Bond movie like the end of "Buggy Nights." (all laughing) - He's just saying he's a big sh-- - You have a license to kill. - A star. (all laughing) - These are the living day lights. - I have the biggest gun. - Do you have any of what takes the best? - Yeah. - I mean, it's just, it's an, it never fails for me when you're trying to kill the hero of the movie in the most elaborate or neat time-consuming way possible, instead of just shooting him in the head, you also have to give him a speech. - I love it. - Bond should have died nine times in this movie, but they're like, you don't understand Mr. Bond. Is that I am going to tell you all about the fall of Russia? - There's one very bad version of it in this movie that is when they're trying to crack Natalia's encryption code near the end and Boris is doing the pen thing, and Bond is just standing there, and it's like just shooting him in the head. It is the Scott Evil thing where it's like, "Why do you even need Bond to be here? "Just kill him and get it over with." Like, he's just watching. - Wait, we gotta get the other part, we gotta get the girl or we gotta get Bond. Like, oh my, the other, which is the best I have. I hadn't noticed this before when I watched it, but when they blow up the damn, the first action sequence and he blows the whole thing up and he's flying away. He does like a fucking victory lap. Like, he's flying away, barely gets away from his explosion, and he's like, "You know what? "I'm going back to school and give him one of these." Like, it's like, you can even watch it fall for that. - Yeah. - Great shot, Gordo, where most cinematic has to be the opening scene, right? - Yeah, damn, yeah. - The plan hitting the damn. - Chess Rockwell, Brocklin is the word best character name. You could argue it might be the Zenia on a top award. - Yeah, I think we should actually change it. - I don't understand how David came up with that. - It's brilliant. - It's sexual, but then you actually look at it, and it's like not sexual, but it feels super sexual. It's like the perfect balance of it. - Did the name came before her sexual proclivity for Squeezing Men? - Yeah, so she comes from a long line of onotops. - Yeah, it's true, those Georgian warriors. - My brother taught me. - Like her, my grandmother taught her. - Yeah. I think Boris Grishenko is a very good Russian hacker name too. It's like, if you had to come up with a Russian hacker name, you couldn't do better than that. - Hans Gruber's scale, villain ranking. We don't get to give this out very often. I had Zenia as a nine and a half out of 10. And I have-- - Who was a 10? - 006 is Gruber's a 10. 006 aka Sean Bean, probably like a 7-f-8. - I think he starts really hot and heavy, and then hits a rookie wall. - Yeah. - Little shaky on his plan. Little shaky on his life. - Well, he's like Gruber. It's like, for all of the talk about Revenge and setting the political landscape right, he really just wants money. - He wants money, yeah. - C.R.s Flex. - This is really exciting for me. The Rick Chichetti Garden Meat Award for the most memorable death by a security guard or other bystander whom the movie treats is inconsequential, but probably had a spouse and kids who love him. And it's gotta go to the train driver. - Who? - Traveithy is like full speed ahead, as in tank is looking at him. And if the tank projectile doesn't kill him, the ensuing inferno doesn't kill him, then he flies full speed ahead into a tank and a tunnel. Like you imagine that guy just be like, "I just wanted a good job with good hours." (laughing) - Presumably he's got a pension, right? - Sure, in Russia, those things really worked out. - Yeah. - But they don't shoot that guy, jump the hours gone. - Yeah. - He crashed into a tank. - James Bond killed him. - That train is also going like 90 miles per hour and people are easily jumping off of it. - Yeah, we'll take one more break and then we have some more categories. All right, butchers girlfriend award, week link of the film. You mentioned multiple scenes were born, just should have died. I'd go with that. I think the plot's confusing. And sometimes I just feel like I'm like, movie dumb sometimes, if there's plots just too many variables, I'm just my brain starts glazing over. But I still don't 100% understand what happened in this movie. - Oh, there's a-- - Can you explain it in a sentence? - Yeah. - The former MI6 agent is seeking revenge on the nation of England and attempting to become extraordinarily wealthy by gaining control of a powerful nation destroying satellite. - Called Golden Eye. - Yes. - Is that, is that, did I miss anything? - There's a lot of confusing stuff. - But there's a lot of others. - Is there two Golden Eyes? - I thought there were. - Okay. - Yeah, there definitely are two satellites. - But if Golden Eye was this important, wouldn't they protect it better? - But that's the problem with the end of the Soviet Union. - They said that up into Death Star as well. You know, we know how that ended. - All right, maybe I'm just dumb. I think I think I do find all James Bond plot mechanics a little dumb It's strange that they I almost wonder whether they make them overly complicated so that they don't ever have to like Be thoroughly interrogated. Yeah, we go into James Bond movies and even the Craig ones. You're like what I feel I totally feel that way in the Craig ones which and I love those movies But I find most of them to be a little incoherently. It's almost like how your iPhone overheats what it gets too hot Yeah, and just like phases dad. This is what happens when you have like nine writers four producers were all like I'm actually the person who's in charge. Yeah, it doesn't really matter though because one of the great things like I have learned this Come like learning to love the series over the years. They are style over substance. That is the point Yeah, so if you know that you're what you really are there for is shaking not stirred and zenia on a top and big explosions Then just roll with it. It's okay. It's not trying to be anything different from that. You just described me because the plot It's like I could really try to pay attention and try to thread these needles or I could just turn my brain off and get to the next thing And that's kind of where I land. I think that's why they're fun in that nine hour chunks, too Like you said when you were a kid it's almost better when you're like, oh, is this never say never or diamonds are forever And you're like, oh, this doesn't really matter. Yeah, yeah, what's age to worse? We mentioned the teen and Turner theme song Q calls Bond a misogynistic dinosaur I don't know man. I'm trying to root for him here Need a hero for two hours. Wow. Is that a character assassination a bond? This is kind of my guy. I'm trying to buy into him save in the world. You're fucking taking shots at him Maybe maybe a little better pregame speech. Sure I don't know if we're able through that a Drake Bay before the Super Bowl But did you see the light though? Did you see the light up for the Super Bowl with bear more and Williams being like This isn't on us like indicating it was on Drake Damn, we're not talking about that. Okay. I mean, they were right I thought Pat's deep played very well. I saw the the mic top when Drake may got hit near the end of the game and landed on a shoulder and couldn't get up and Variable went to help him and realized he couldn't pull him up with his right shoulder because his right shoulders probably broken And kind of helped him with his shoulder pads. I saw that one. Did you see that one? Correct. That's like Friday. That wasn't great That's like he was severely injured. He did look very injured in the helmet At the end of the game really Jerry Seinfeld. That's a shame energy from over here What sage the worst. I thought the gadget scene could have been more fun. It's You and it's just they just didn't have a lot of juice in those gadgets Yeah, it was like look at my leg cast that shoots a missile. It's like when the fuck am I ever gonna wear a leg cast Yeah Like rolling around being like no don't mind my broken leg. I'm still on the on the job you think should pivot a bond Would that be better career move for him? I don't know if he has the personality My last one was um, I thought the score and the soundtrack just sucked dude Thank you. So the most egregious offence in the history of bond movies might very well be the music that's playing as Bond and the girl are in the asamartan and zenia's in the frory. It's like super mario brothers pause music. It's terrible And this is the fucking coolest guy in the world The hottest woman in the world and two of the best cars in the world And we got fucking Luigi jumping around in the background like what has happened? You really got out with that one you really enjoyed that Well, I was thinking like two years later the saint came out which we already didn't rewatch most And one of the great things about the saint. It's same kind of thing. They're on all these locations The music and the sound and the score and they're tapping into all that music from the orb and like all that shit um I have one more Yeah, one more what Passwords for satellites that can blow up the world having passwords like chair. Yeah Not even like three dollar signs at the end. Yeah, well they were There was the first those the early days of passwords. Yeah, well, what was the first password you ever used? It was probably like I don't know. I was killing the best. Yeah, it was literally like iverson. Yeah. What was your first email address? Uh, well, I had like a paragraph long dot edgy email address for a while Oh, that was your first personal and then my first one was hotmail crying crying 33 at hotmail.com What was yours? Sure. I'm dead serious. I think it was like reservoir dog 327 Dead serious. What was the server um This would be a good podcast AOL maybe it'll also be fun if we could go back into those email accounts and see like what what's been happening in there? What was your first email? It's correct. If you mentioned a well instant messenger account. Did you need an email for that? You have to have a username You have to like a chat name. Yeah, I had that my first email was probably Craig world back at y'all But what was your AOL name or were you too old? I don't remember. You don't know what it was like. Miguel Tejada 445 Ork Ellis. Yeah My first one was dr. Luma's 22 at a well done. Seriously? Yeah, so fucking good man. Yeah, that's what we're all here today Yeah, I watched a well for 15 years Staring at a well stink through the world By other what's age the worst is the one moment where they try to make it serious and bond is like was fully staring at the sea in the Caribbean And it's just like give me a break dog. You're not you're not mad about any of this. Yeah, you're having a great time by this So it's okay when Michael man does it, but it's not okay when James Bond does it. If skyfall like where it's just like that is what it's like but he's been like Banging ladies and driving cars and you just want to hit on people to work and drive a cool car stop Is this the least sex James Bond has in a movie? And the most people he's killed, I think he takes down Italia. Yeah, but that's it. Yeah, I guess so One time pretty chased. No, he has sex with the therapist with serena good. Yeah, well He also he brings Zeniana top tourism just from their steam room fight. Not true. Yeah um We haven't gotten to give this out yet. I'm really excited The earn this award for cringy quote that should have been vetted by William Goldman first after that whole action scene when uh When somebody crashes in bongos the things we do for frequent flyer mileage Just fucking terrible like back to the workshop 45 writers of this movie He had a couple groaners that definitely had Austin powers DNA. Yeah, where you're like oh Mike virus is like I'm definitely making fun of this He did Ruffalo Hannah Rubinic Pouchridge overacting word has to go to Alon coming as Boris Yeah, there's a very funny Sean Bean moment on the train where uh He goes to James like see you in hell and then he looks at uh or a mob the guy who's got the gun on body and he goes like this Like to like indicate that he should kill him, but it's like all right being take take a couple miles per hour. I'll tell you that Sean you have a flex category Yeah, I already talked about the Dan Campbell skill, but there there's a criteria orgasm here. Is there oh I didn't realize During the opening sequence when bond is dragging the rack that has all the tanks to make sure he doesn't get shot by any of the Russian soldiers um One of the soldiers accidentally fires on him and then or a mob turns around and shoots him and that's like pulled right out of the wildbunch That's in the opening and the opening scene in the wildbunch. It's like an homage. That's awesome. Yeah You should start making them up. You should be like obviously you'll never know. Yeah, obviously Natalia is a reference to Paris, Texas This is Tarkovsky's Ivan Rubelev. You know that we what we all remember that moment. Yeah. Yeah. I should do that The Rob the Honey thinks smells like team spirit sucks. How to stake a word shouting him out Uh, I have one, but I'll go last do you have one? Uh Judy date dentures take on M predicts the coming advanced analytics revolution. Oh In 95 she would be right at the cutting edge of getting data and just making database choices It's much more instinctual before that, you know And uh, what about her sense of misogyny though Well, that that also is a precursor to like how the workplace would change But I think my real one would be that um after watching Bond and Traveithian I think we missed we missed a step by not making a Bond buddy movie along the way And I and I would the buddy dies at the end or yeah, like I think a Bond and Alec movie would have been awesome like a pre like a pre one And it's all of their relationship and then gold and i is like what happens after I think part of the reason the movie works is that those two guys actually have chemistry Yes, and maybe more chemistry than he does with uh is a bell screwed go um in my opinion, but that's a good one They never they've still never really taken a risk like that They've actually done some they did audacious stuff with Craig, but it still was Bond Yeah, they never and I'm very curious to see if amazon is like fuck it. We're trying something totally different What do you have for artists take do you have one? I think brazenin would be considered the second best Bond ever if Martin Campbell made all of his movies And the other three are so poor even though the directors are fine It's like roger spotis wood and michael aptead like not and bleeds hama hori But those movies are really in my opinion really not good But Campbell is responsible for two of the seven best I think maybe seven or eight best bond movies. Yeah, and brazenin loved Campbell and he was Like he was a warrior. There's a great feature at of him directing this movie on the blue ray That is like he he screams action so loud and it's just like Let's go sharp as a knife We're going again like really in his New Zealand accent and he was like he was the general of James Bond for a few years there Um, unfortunately he didn't get to work in them again Mine is uh I put a lot of fun to who I think should have been the best Bond ever after Connery Mm-hmm out of all the actors we've had I landed on Colin Farrell I think he would have been the best bond. He's got the accent, the Irish, like Connery was Scottish, right? So it's in the vicinity, so I think he could have pulled that off. I think he could have looked like bond, like the everything that we think bond is in our head. I think he did the action stuff. There would have been a little sun and crock at Miami Vice in there, could have different hairdos for each movie. And I just think he would have been really good, right in that time when they were casting Daniel Craig, but he was having a lot of issues and it wasn't going to happen. Okay. Would you trade Miami Vice completely the movie for Colin Farrell as Bond for 10 years? No. Let me, let me, can I, I'm going to talk to my GM and I'm going to call you back, phone call, ring ring. Would you trade? Rafe finds is any of his, like, sort of modern renaissance for him being bonded back there. I wouldn't trade Grand Budapest Hotel. Everything else is on the board. Voldemort, I don't care. This is a good idea for a pod. Movie trades. Movie trades. Oh, yeah. Liam Neeson is too tall for Bond to leave me since like six, four is also an interesting tip. It's like six, five or six, six, six that Natasha Richardson, like forbid him from doing it. I couldn't tell if it was a joke, but it was an interesting little like he claim that he said that Natasha Richardson, his wife at the time, didn't want to do it. Oh, yes, that's right. Casting what ifs. Oh, okay. Okay. Before Brosden, Liam Neeson passed, first choice was Mel Gibson, Hugh Grant was smart enough not to know. We know Connor was pushing for Mel Gibson. Mel Gibson was one of the biggest stars in the world at the old time. The old time. I think a little too old. Australian. I mean, is he that much older than Brosden though? He's got to be in his mid 40s. Yeah, maybe you're right. He just looked a little older. This is the other thing is that some guy is like, no, I would say he was probably like 39 to 42 range. That's right. Yeah. I think Mel Gibson would have been a mistake. And they met with Ray Fiennes, who quit shows 94. He could have done it. I don't. It would have been different because he's a little bit more intellectual. So it would have brought a different character to it. He's the swordsman you want in the in the bond, but like, you know, bigger splashes like that. I'm going to say he's done a couple of parts where you're like, that's that is a that's an old story. But now he's in. So it doesn't matter. Mel is two years younger than Brosden. Yeah. Jude laws three years to like three years later talented Mr Ripley. If that had come out 94, the same way it did and bond is opening. I think he's in there. Was he discussed when they went for Craig? I assume he was. He must have been. It was too late at that point. Yeah. Maybe he was discussed. I think Jude law in the late 90s would have been really good. They said Paul McGahn was the studio's second choice at Brosden couldn't do it. I don't really have a Paul McGahn history. Nathaniel and I I mean, he's in that he's been in a lot of British television. I was reading about him a little bit this morning. Like he was in Horatio Hornblower that series it was on that. This was in the research, but Billy Zapka they looked at nice. Yeah, for sure. I don't know. I don't know about it. I was always high considered as well. I was positive. I believe that for Zenia the Sean Bean character was supposed to be older and Anthony Hopkins down. Rickman both turned it down and then they decided to make him younger. Ryan's was red hot at that point. It's just a different movie. If he's like basically like his bond, this is mentor, basically. Bardemann vaults are definitely the most esteemed and Malik are like the most esteemed actors who have ever played Bond adversaries, correct? More or less? Well, I mean, Robert Shaw. Oh, right. Robert Shaw. Robert Shaw was was the the error bond villain. He's amazing. Yeah. And that was right. Yeah, different jaws. Paulina Poroscova and Eva Herzegovah were offered the role of Natalia and both turned it down. Paulina Poroscova would have been my choice over It's a Bella Scorrupco. Can she act though? Can he is a Bella Scorrupco? I kind of liked her. No. That she was the last one. I read also El McPherson. Hmm. I would have, I would have. They were just going through the size. I swear to you. Literally. Courtney Cox couldn't get this verified. It was on the internet that she allegedly turned down Zenia on a top. Did you have friends out to find out if this was true? I did not. I didn't pass the stink test to me. Okay. And I don't, I just don't see Courtney Cox's Zenia or I know it would have infuriated Craig. Courtney Cox. Two thumbs up. And Zenia over top though? No. That's a stretch. Over top. On a top. Recognization of her name. Yeah. That was her character from over the top. Yeah. How do you feel about John Wu being approached as director and turning it down? Boy, it's an amazing what if I mean, he basically gets to do this with my mission impossible to. Yeah, but then you see don't get broken arrow, which means maybe you don't get face off. So I get broken arrow on the rewatchables. Why not? I love broken arrow. Well, our girls are that Samantha Mathis. Yeah. Some really good Slater. Samantha Mathis chasing down a stealth bomber. A great movie. I think that's also the birth of Travolta just being like, I'm a maniac. Yes. Yeah. He's a huge exposure. Hold on, everybody for the next five years. Yes. He is a fruit cake in that movie. He's really going for it. Absolutely. Amazing. Best that guy. Joe Don Baker. And now I'm coming. Not eligible. But I think I'm coming. Was that guy when they made the movie? Now he's out. Coming. I have been. And please forgive me if I'm brutalizing this name. Cheki Kerrio as the defense minister. Okay. He's been in tons of stuff. You guys would raise the name Gottfried John, who's a German actor who plays Oremov, the general. I have him as my winner. He proof of life. That CR was going to take it. I'm sorry. I'm giving it to you. Yeah. He shares the prison. So David Morris. I forgot. That's right. He escapes. He's the French guy. Very unmistakable face. Yeah. I don't think he was eligible for bond. Do you have waiters? I think Zenny overtops them in too much. I had Robbie Coltrane as a Kovsky. I'm a mini driver. Oh, that's good. Would you have that if mini driver not become mini driver? Probably not, but she's pretty foxy in the movie. Sure. Terrible singer. Stand by. Oh man. No. Recasting couch director city. So I just think Joe Don Baker. I love Joe Don Baker. He shouldn't be in the movie because he was a villain in a previous bond movie. It's fucking stupid. I don't know. I think he looks later. Can I offer you Nick Nolti? Oh. How do I know? How do I know? What do I want to do in Jack Cates? Yeah. Tarnish. Nick Nolti wins fucking Oscar for Prince of Tides. No. Nick, what's next? Listen, we're kind of Nick a check. I don't know if Nick put away a lot of his money. Like, we need you for 20 days. It's really cool. 3 million bucks. We ain't banging around then. So that's after. It's not old enough. It's after blue trips. I love it. I just throw any value. You have an immediate rule. No, it's got to be like it. Late 40s, early 50s with some alcohol. What's your name? It's 96. Is that I love? I love trouble, right? Yeah. It's right after another 40 hours, like four years after that. Okay. No. I just, the desk, he's just as good of a suggestion. How about, if he wasn't old enough, though, he's like a lady man. No, shut up. (laughing) About Brian Dettie. Yeah, definitely. Definitely. Definitely good, too. Definitely. I was just trying to think of, like, grizzled older. What about Dustin Hoffman? Yeah. (laughing) Craig has a flex category. (laughing) I'll defer to you guys on this, because I'm sure you've thought about this, but I wanted to build the female sex killer Mount Rushmore. Oh, Jesus. Great. We're going to kill men during sex. I'm going to buckle up. Xenia on the top. Yeah. Caffin Tramble, Basic Instinct. Gotta be. Gotta be. Sil from Species. Yeah. Yeah. And the fourth, I think this is the one that can be open. You've aimed me done from Gone Girl. Is there a better fourth? She's got that great on the top scene with Doogie Hauser. Right. And that's incredible stuff. Is there anyone I'm missing on this Mount Rushmore? Because I think it's a tidy four. Oh, I personally really like Jeremy Irons' girlfriend and die hard with a vengeance with the Scythe. Yep. She's pretty good. I wish you had prepared me for this. I should have texted you. What did the Google say? Did you Google it at all? It looks like it's really these four. Did you Google female killers, sex, Mount Rushmore? And it's yeah. A little bit. Liz is like, what are you doing? Nothing. I think that might be the four. That's very good. It's a really good one. Me and Goth in the Pearl X movies. Oh, yeah. Hmm. It's a good later period. There's probably some horror stuff we're forgetting. Yeah. They did. Somebody did that and it follows. I think it's really more the ghost haunting, the ghost of the screen movies. Rebecca Gayhart. Well, I don't want to say movies, but Mikey Madison's pretty good. She is. That's a good one. Good one, Craig. Have I started a research? The opening scene when an admiral's seduced and killed had to be rewritten because the US military was like, no, and they changed it to Canada. Can't it? Just take a shot. It's really funny. Golden Eye was the nickname of Inflammings Beachfront House in Jamaica, where he wrote a bunch of bar novels in the '50s. But did you also read that it was also the name of a military operation strategy in the event that England was invaded through Spain, through the Nazi's partnership with Jesus? I didn't know that with Franco. With Franco. And that he, that he and Fleming was working as a spy at that time. And so he worked on that strategy and then he named his estate after that strategy, which which was never ultimately deployed. But then. So I think Michael France, who wrote the original version of the screenplay, he must have known that and put that in because there's all this stuff about what happened in World War Two with the Cossacks and everything. So it feels like a big homage to that. It would be funny if the actual reason was his first name begins with I and he just was drunk one night. It's like, I will name this place Golden Eye. That was just how it became. 90,000 cans of peria water were used in the collision between the tank and the peria truck and every other soda turned it down and soda water, everything in pairs like sinus up and it was great for them. How many people do you think he killed in this movie? 60. 75. 47. Yes, ever for bond apex mountain bras, then I'm gonna say yes. It's yeah, probably it was kind of bras, then time in 95 because it's all I did it is you success it basically revives the franchise right. It might be Mama Mia. Oh, are you just yeah, I just saw this for the first time. I did not know how popular these movies were. I have now learned how popular they are. And is this in your divorced women's group? Yeah, well, pretty much it's called watching a movie a man to ask me to watch. And I enjoyed the movie. But he's a big part of the movie like more than I expect he's like the third lead of the movie. And I feel like to a younger generation, he's way more famous for that movie than he is for James Bond. That's how much time is crown affair. Yeah, it was. I would argue he might be more famous for that too, than gold and I might be probably he's favorite brasna is probably hot fuzz. He's super funny and half us. He was just in black back. He was also in black back. Yeah, yeah. Um, he's having a good little stretch. I like bras and he's in. Taylor shirt. Isn't he in a Taylor Sheridan? No, he's in mob land. It's not Taylor Sheridan. It feels like it. Yeah, he's always been good. In the first John McTiernan movie, nomads, he was the lead of the four die hard before all those movies. Isabella Scorapco. I'm going to say yes for Apex Bond. She did appear in a film called Cougar Club several years later. Did you write and direct that film? I'm waiting for the 4K to arrive. That's got to be N2B. BMW Z3. No question. It wasn't until you shit on it on this pod. Everyone makes mistakes. Is this song, Golden Eye and the performance, the anti Apex of Bond theme songs? Oh, I think it's the worst. What's the best? Honestly, I kind of might go skyfall diamonds are forever. It's amazing. I mean, Carly Simon for your eyes only. Yeah. That was massive. Gold fingers also amazing. Funky. I'm probably butchering our name every time we're doing that, which would be on brand. Funky. Exment. Yeah, Jingray. Bond movies. No, no. What would you say Apex Mountain for Bond movies is skyfall? I think it's got to be Conor era. These were like events when they came out. I think Skyfall is the most financially successful, but maybe not for inflation. That little like doctor know from Russia with love. That first Conor era, I think is probably in the 60s. It has to be somewhere in there. Jo Don Baker. No, walking tall. So I have Mitchell, when you played Mitchell, then the Mr. Science Theatre guys made photo Mitchell, which is Mitchell in the film Mitchell. The best hour and a half of comedy and comedy central history was them doing Mitchell. I really love it because they would always do like these weird forties of 50s movies. And then one time they decided to do Mitchell. And it was fucking awesome. Have you seen Mitchell before you saw them do that? No, I did all they're doing is just ragging on Jo Don Baker for 90 minutes. And he's like a like a ladies man grizzled drunk detective in it and they're just fucking killing him. It's really funny. It's probably a new tube post cold war shit. No, no, peria. I think you could say yes, sparkling water. Peria had a bad rap for a while. It's starting to come around. Do you is peria just being completely blown off the face of the earth by all the fancy. And now it's like people just call it spark and water. But you really should put peria crack. Never really drank it. Yeah, sand pelly. That's my. Yeah, it's a lot of competitors. Yeah, yeah, by the way, no taniva. We'll happy to sponsor. We'll put you right there. I'll drink from peria. No offense to Sam Pellegrino, but it always strikes me that they are. I find their rewards or their prize money for top chef to be pretty cheap. It's like you get $200,000. It's like this guy's the best chef in the country. Yeah, like something more than that. Wow. Alan coming. No, traders. Yeah, he's, he's having his moment. You think he's proud of his work as Boris Groschenko? He's basically test driving his traders hosting role as Boris. Just like the next. Yeah. By the way, my one of my goals for 2026 is to get Rachel Lindsay on traders. I'm just laying the hammer down now. Can I? Can I? She needs to go on traders. They need to have her and I think she'd be amazing. I have no problem with that whatsoever. But can I just make a suggestion? I think you should go on traders. I think you would be incredible on traders. I just don't know if he can stay. It's like a guilt by association with who's on the show though. Kind of, but like you are you are a strategist. How would you have dealt with rapids? You love a game. How would you have dealt with rapids on traders? Probably trying to get them out. Yeah. Think about it. Just the ratio. They have all these like real housewife from Beverly Hills types like get Rachel. She would have been better than that. She would be great. She'd be a package to the two of you guys. You can do our own traders in Bill's house. That's true. We could do ringer traders. It would be hilarious if it was like Bill's taking it two months sabbatical. For what? What's he doing? He got his five of traders. Everything is shutting down. I was watching it with Eileen and it did occur to me. I was like, I feel like Bill would be good at that. I would be better if you were like, you know, when I'm stepping away from mental health purposes. It was like six months later, Bill's on a trader. I have said to carry out. I'm just I'm experiencing burnout. I would win the trade deadlines. Well, because I remember anything everyone's ever said to me. I would never slip up with the what we took them out. And then like you said we want to say we you would never do that or you would never do that. Interesting. I would just keep a low profile. What do you carry? I would never do the thing where it's like, why are we here for when they have sometimes the three traders are all eating breakfast first. And then the fourth person comes in and it's like, hey, it's like, why are you three here first? Are you the traders? I just would have immediately been suspicious. Yeah. Sounds like maybe you want in. Sir traders all star edition. Is that what you want to give me and Rachel? Now, the one I couldn't do a survivor who that's the one I've always wanted to do. But the contact ones is you're just it's a deal breaker. No food is increasingly an issue too. I feel like just like it's been four days since I've had one bite of food. That's not like I can't do that these days. I've said this before, but my dream in life was was always been for my wife to be a survivor. Because after she doesn't eat for about 10 hours, she turns into Hannibal Lecter. And it was just and she would win. They'd be trying to vote her off, but she would keep winning the challenges. They're like, fuck, we can't really care. And then she'd be like, just like the most menacing person. If you want to reward like to go to like the Outback Steakhouse Hut. She was by herself. None of you. I'm getting all the steak. Crews are hanks. Crews. Crews. Crews. Easy win. If you could put another bond actor in Golden Eye, who would you want? Another bond actor. Yeah, like if you can have Conry Dalton. Lays and B more or Craig in Golden Eye. Because I think Golden Eye, I was going to save this for prestige TV. Yeah. I think it's got remake potential. Oh. Interesting. I think that during the hacking stuff, you could have like some AI stuff. You have the EMP post things, satellite. Yeah. I mean, we briefly mentioned it, but it also just Russia being the, you know, the villain. And also the Travati and thing I think would be really cool for them to explore. It's interesting. We need to get one of the inner internet weirdos to figure out the cruiser hanks standings. I can do it. No, we just get it. Isn't there like a rewatchables Reddit? Can't one of those people do it? Yeah. Maybe they will now, but I have them all logged. It's got to add them up. Who's winning you think? Crews I bet. Crews, yeah. Crews is up like five or six last time I checked. Oh, really? Yeah. You know what that means? Gonna have to start rigging it a little bit. But we need another crew. That's why she go on traders because my response was going to be that means I won the argument. And that means to you, you need to start cheating. Yeah. It would be cool. It's like first one to a hundred or whatever we're going for. And then it's like the reward is cruise or hanks is on the pod. Wow. Crews doing rewatchables would probably break off our brand. You know that hanks can hang with you. He was so good. We're about to have the new studio that will be able to do. You think that's what crew is waiting for? Yeah. Well, I would never, if we had crews, I would never want to. We'd be like, oh, I can only have Chris or Sean. We can only do three. Like we'd go for for crews. Yeah. And I don't think any of us would talk the whole time. I think he would have so much energy. Would you make me do Wayne Jacobs in front of crews? Hey, man, that's a really good impression. Great job. I'd probably make you do somebody from one of his movies like Rod Tidwell. Yeah. Oh, God. That looks as many black characters as you can do. You should do in front of some crews. Do Bing Rames for mission possible three. Best hang worst hang. Do you have either for this movie? I have best hang money. penny. Yeah, obviously just a great call. Great hang and then we're saying Boris. Yeah, Boris. Probably reeks of cigarettes. I can't do better than that. Yeah. They've never really figured out the kind of semi evil computer hackers and movies. They always have to like have these crazy personalities do a lot of typing and play with pens. They don't really know if it's not a good movie, but all of fun in a live free die hard is probably the coolest hacker. It's a good one. I enjoy Fisher Stevens and the movie hackers. Yeah. It's pretty good in that. I've been scouting rewatchables movies, including gone in 60 seconds, which I watch recently, which is tremendous. Yeah, it's awesome. I don't know what all of fans that are completely different movie than ever in the movie. I don't know what he's doing in that movie. I love it. And he's in a cage movie, which is crazy to say, if you're in a different movie, the Nick cage is all the way over here, like filming a pilot for FX with his character. It's a pretty sick era for him, too. It's like that's right after go. Yeah, yeah, we'll be doing that. Picking nits, uh, mentioned already, not sure how James gets away from 100 Russian soldiers in the first scene from close quarters. It's basically like a room like this. When they all machine guns, he gets out. Natalia is same thing with the explosion. The tank. I don't know. Can tanks do that? I'm going to guess no. I don't think so. Also, like the, I know, like slow is smooth and smooth is fast, but James Bond gets out of that tank very slowly as the train is approaching. Right. It's kind of like up here and now I'm off the tracks and you're been in a tank. Uh, you know what? I think I might have in like a World War 2 museum or something. What's it in Berlin? No, I don't remember where it was. Honestly, it might have been in Croatia. I might have been in tank. Interesting. Yeah. Just keep it moving. I have Sean being Sean being fallen to his death, like a hundred feet, not dying instantly. No, it's like, he's just dead. That being said, you hit the ground. You're dead. I love long fall paralyzed and then something falls on. I thought it was kind of funny that they purposefully were like, he survived. Whoops. Yeah. He's not from the any else. Uh, Bond and Natalia in the plane over the fake lake where the dishes, they get hit by a missile and crash land into the jungle and they are just like beautifully knocked out for five minutes, not eviscerated. Well, I some questions about that missile. Like the missile basically acts as though it were like a boomerang. Yeah. It just like hits it and the plane catches on fire. It's like, it's a missile. It's supposed to explode. Yeah. Blow the plane. Yeah. It's kind of a weak. It's kind of a weak missile. I already mentioned just, okay, them not shooting Sean being Sean be not shooting Bond in the face when Roshenko is hacking Natalia's code is insane. Is this movie better with Wayne Jenkins, Fergie, the florist, Doris Burke or somebody else here? I'm working something out here. I'm thinking about bringing Zayn Low into the rotation for Bond. We've been scouting him for a while, scouting him every sense his Harry Styles interview and just imagining him being like, James, you're back and we couldn't even call it espionage because it's a journey. It's a journey about who you want to be as a spy. Golden eye looking down on us, but we're looking over at you. What do you have for us next in this great piece of art that we call spying? I don't know. It's good yet. We're just we're we're that was out of control. I love that. I love that. I also love that when he's interviewing people, he's just like Sean, who you are, who you've become, but where you come from? Talk about it. I find the mic up. Yeah. Don't ever look me in the eye like that again. Please. That's probably why he gets such good stuff. You know, he's just my friend, which made me love that more. Julie, I still have I still have an MP3 on my phone that Julie have reported. Yeah. Of when hello by Adele came out and he just goes, the return of the artist. That was incredible. That was in Grantland days. I remember that well. Yeah. That was my number one moment all time of I wish CR was here since I've known CR since 2010. Zane rented a house in Malibu for one week. And it was the house that was Neil's house and heat. And I walked in and I'm like, what's going on with this hat? Like I just had the furniture? No, yeah, it had furniture. Okay. But it was Zane low who you would have loved. But then we were in the Neil, Neil house. And I was like, if CR was here, I feel like he would have a stroke. I'm recovering from Zane low. That was great. Good addition. Fergie, the florist and Zane low. Yeah. People said you couldn't topway in Jenkins. You're just slowly proving you guys in. It's going to, it's going to revitalize this pod. Just one Oscar who gets it. Martin Campbell. Martin Campbell. Sure. Best director. I think at its special effects. This stunt guy. We did the bungee jump stunt stunt. Yeah. Probably an answerable questions. I have two. But if you guys have any, come on in. How does James Bond break up with women in between movies? You know, you get to the end, Natalia him. Like they've gone through several globe-trying adventures together. I think he gets bored after a couple of months, right? Yeah. I think he breaks up with them. He definitely ghosts them. He just kind of stops responding. It's like, oh yeah, it's like, sorry, baby. It's espionage. This one didn't have me thinking of James Bond as gay though. Carole. It's like he won't commit. He's got incredible chemistry with all these guys. Jack Wade shows up and they're like, wasn't buddies right away. Yeah. Obviously, he and Sean be and they spend a lot of time together, right? What was the Daniel Craig one where they were like, there's some subs text in this entire movie. It's kind of in the first movie. It's Bardem. It's Bardem. Yes, and Bardem is playing that very, like, he's like opening shirt and he's just like, let's go. Yeah. You know, kind of the origins of that a little bit. Why can't you just get lock it down? You know, commit. I have to. Could you actually kill somebody by squeezing your legs around them if you're a six-foot Dutch model/russian. It's like, find out. It's trying to think like, how would this really go? How strong would you like to find out? I don't think I would enjoy that. So your ribs would have to get squeezed in that way. Even if like the prospect of having sex. We have, what am I doing? We have Craig here. This is why you're here. They, they, they, this is, you've definitely thought about this. Sure. Crush the ribs in. Yeah. You have to like split a kidney or a liver at that point. One of the ribs would have to split some. Probably internal bleeding from all the broken ribs. Oh, I thought it was just like suffocating them. No, I think it's broken ribs. Broken ribs, splicing and organ, I think. Would you like it? Sound on your face. What? Here's my other one. Joe Don Baker. So if he's just Joe Baker. Uh-huh. It's fine. Joe Don Baker now becomes like one of the coolest names you can have in a movie. So why don't other people just put, like, could, could Chris be Chris Don Ryan? Some of your best work. I'm sorry. I'm finished. I'm Chris Don Ryan. I'm Don Fennessy. I'm Craig Don Horlbeck. I can be Bill Don Simmons. I'm a static right now. So that's anything. John Don Fennessy and Chris Don Ryan. Yeah. Chris Don Ryan. So you're, it's just for something about the Don just makes a movie really nicely. I think I will legally change my name now. That is undeniable. I would, I would have a kid just to name him like CD. Chris Don. Yeah. And did his pet, was he Joseph Donald Baker? I'm sure. And he just became Joe Don or where his parents like your Joe Don Baker. I don't know, but I let's find out. It seems possible that there's a sad card issue there, where there was already a Joe Baker and sad. Wikipedia just has him as Joe Don Baker. That's it. That's just his whole name. I think it was like a southern, like, this is just your name. Joe Don. Billy Joe. Joe Don. That's it. Graphs Beck, Texas. Chris Don Ryan. His mother's name was Edna McDonald. So perhaps Don from there. Oh, yeah. I could see that. Yeah. Yeah. Joe Don Baker. What a name. And it's like because the other one who is kind of like the discount Joe Don Baker was Wings Hauser. Yes. And Wings Hauser. Another great name. Yeah. Was that his real first name? That does it matter? No. Wings Hauser was elite. Wings Hauser. Cole Hauser's dad. Yeah. Yeah. Yes. Yes. Yeah. I guess I never thought about it. Yeah. God damn. Yeah. That's Rips Dad. Yeah. God damn it. What's going on with Cole Hauser's character in that world? He is on the not the Madison, which is the Michelle Fife or Kurt Russell spinoff. Okay. It's another spinoff story. He's not on Madison. No, I don't think so. Did the Madison start yet? No, it starts in March. But it's supposed to be like kind of like a romance. Get ready for some sad staring out into the sunset and some fly fishing feels like I'm excited. How do you feel about your never was Michelle Fife or getting involved in the Sheridan verse? It was time. When she made that weird Amazon movie, I was like, we need Sheridan. It was always strange when somebody's not on stuff for a while, and then they have two shows at the same time. So she's going to have an Apple show and a Paramount show at the same time. Interesting. Oh, interesting. No. My dad was upset about Landman. Why? He thought it was a four-episode stretch in the 10th. Once Sheridan really doubled down. I agree with your father. By the way, Sheridan, some of the stuff that came out, Sheridan's like, yeah, we're we're taking the we're taking corners back next season. So do you know from whom I read an article? Oh, and he was like, I see you guys out here getting more involved than season three. Yeah. Did he write every episode season two? Did he? Did he? Well, it was breaking news. But doesn't he? Did he write season three or season two? But doesn't he like control the entire work like that whole world? Desi? Who do had six shows at the same time? Who are you defending? Taylor Sheridan. I think Taylor Sheridan's taking back his corners. actually. I think they know that was a week. Got it. Okay. Okay. Okay. I think that the other side of that argument is that it might be a little bit of a twilight for those shows because he's going to universal in a couple of years and he's not going to be wasted. Good idea. Isn't good energy on them. I've seen more professional than that. Okay. Great. Yeah. That's right. He will not mail it in. No. No. Good. Plus he's on the limitless drug. He can't mail it in. He's just creating shit left and right. Number 16. Do you think he uses chat GPT? I don't know. That feels like a negative thing to say. Like, yes, I do. My question is do screenwriters kind of dabble? It's a tool. You know, screenwriters dabble. I'm not going to tell the Shakespeare he can't use a typewriter. This is great because you were like, there's way too much workplace sexual harassment stuff and golden eye, but I will not speak on whether or not Taylor shared. I just don't know. I don't know the process of screenwriting and like whether that stuff is helpful or message you up. I think people say that it is helpful. He's cranking out a lot of material. It's true. That's why I said the limitless drug. Yeah. What piece of memorabilia would you want from this movie? I would like a functional mint condition in 10.64 and a mint condition version of gold and I owe seven. That's got to be my wife. I still have my n64. Can I come out? Yeah. Okay. You want to go back to being an unmarried lay about in a New York City apartment? Listen to the iron flag. I didn't have an answer for this. I don't know if I'd want to remember really from Martin. That's pretty cool. But that's we don't. Yeah. The pen. Oh, the pen's good. Yeah. The pen's good. Yeah. Coach Finstack, Mr. Miyagi, word for best life lesson. I will either offer you half of everything is luck, James. Let that was solid. Governments change. The lies stay the same. There you go. Bingo. Wow. Bingo. What's age the best? Best double feature choice. Oh, I had a couple. I did I did. I did include moon raker because I think like bond stretching for the limits is a theme of this movie. I also had lawnmower man for an early look at Pierce Brosnan that also includes kind of hacking virtual worlds. Kind of not that's some movies not really thought of as a Pierce Brosnan movie, but it is. Well, we're trying to do Netflix movies that they that they have to try to team them up with rewatchables and moon raker. I wouldn't do it like in the next two months, but moon raker is one that I really funny like dead dead week, like this is just that movie. I can't believe that movie happened. Yeah, you mentioned in a previous episode about this like overreaction of Star Wars where people kind of lost their minds for two years. And that's how moon raker they basically did James bought it out of space. It's fucking nuts. I can't believe it happened. It's entertaining though. It is entertaining. It's good. But it's also crazy and stupid. What if we just did fucking bond movies for like the right to be here? I don't know. We definitely could have done a month. Yeah. We could if we if I did this over again, I might even think like we could have done gold finger. We could have won for me, Jared. But I think that's the best way to do it. I think once you start getting into like the third Roger Moore movie, it's very redundant. Like it gets very same. Yeah. Roger Moore TV actor. Wow. That's fired. He is he is not held up. I don't think as well as some of the other bonds. That's the that's the famous famous Sean Penn dis on Michael J. Fox, you know, that story when he's about to do that. So he has to get up right next to his ear and he goes TV actor. And then he walks away from it. So come on man. I'm trying to do Michael J. Fox to get to not bad. Who won the movie? Peer Sprozen. Agreed. I think so too. I think you could argue the bond franchise because it re re re re re big graded too. Yeah. It's you know, Craig Gold and I had never seen it. I have only seen the Daniel Craig bond movies really like those. I thought this was better and worse than I expected. Absolutely. It was worse in that it was it's it's it was odd going from seeing the Austin powers movies which they are parodying. It was weird going from the parody to what they were parody in order of watching. Oh yeah. So it was kind of odd how silly and whimsical this movie was. I kind of was cut too color by the Daniel Craig bonds which are way darker and more serious. Yeah. Didn't really realize bond was so whimsical. Like when they're down with Q and the guys like in the phone booth and like the airbag goes off and he's like stuck being the guy in the background. Things like that. It was just way sillier and seeing Austin powers do it. I don't know if it kind of hurt or affected the way I interpreted this movie. And yet just like so fun old school like movie escapism. This is what you go to the movies for hot people sprawling going to countries fancy cities. You're in casinos like it's super fun. I think the I thought the first 12 minutes. I watched the first 12 minutes. The Tina Turner song plays. I paused it. I went into the other I went into the bedroom. I was like Liz. You've got to watch this movie with me. I think you'll like it. She came out. I restarted it. We re watched the first 12 minutes and then we watched the movie and it's super fun. But yeah, it's weird. The Austin power stuff. You're like, oh, this is yeah, it goes back. It must be hard. Yeah. One other thing with bond movies. Great date movie. Yeah, they're so fun. Yeah, like old school. I don't know if you'd born identity as as much of like a date movie is. No, that's more of a solo excursion for you. Yeah. Yeah. That's that's playing Golden Eye. That's it for the Golden Eye rewatch. Thanks for having us here. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Craig and Gav, thank you. And we'll be back next week.
