Giddy Up - Full Show 9/10

This episode of Giddy Up with Gareth Hall previews one of the biggest race days of the year, Caulfield Guineas Day, on Friday, 9 October. Gareth is joined by Mark Hunter for the Hunter's Edge segment, which works through the entire Caulfield card race by race. Caulfield track manager Sam Bennett provides an update, confirming a Good 4 surface, the rail back in the true position for the first time since August, and a need for light irrigation given warm, windy conditions. Hunter offers detailed selections, including VIP in race one, Sequined as his best bet, Savatry in the Vase, Pinhole in the Herbert Power, Jigsaw in the Schillaci and She's Alibi in the Might and Power. He rates War Woven as the one to beat in the Caulfield Guineas, with Trombolt and Blind Races the dangers. Trainer Robbie Griffiths joins the show to discuss Ray McNeil's chances in the Schillaci and other stable runners. The program also announces the Cox Plate Eve luncheon at the Ascot Vale Hotel, gives away two Geelong Cup Day marquee tickets, and wraps up with the Weekend Preview team delivering tips, the Mega Boost and the Top Four Multi.

Speaker 2Yes, good morning. This is Giddy Up with Gareth Hall on this Friday. It's the 9th of October. It's a big hello to you listening on your local SEN track and RSN 927 dials. Wherever you may be listening on the SEN and RSN apps, if you're listening to us a little later on on the podcast, a big hello to you. And of course, if you're watching us on racing.com. And these days as well, especially with the 100Z, you can watch Mark a little later on on YouTube. All you need to do is subscribe to SEN track. So it is great to have your company. What a show we have for you on this Friday as we get set for one of the best days in racing. Caulfield Guineas Day. You've got the Might and Power Stakes, which sees She's Alibi back at the races. And also the. The Tourac, the handicap over the mile. And in Sydney, it's a handy enough meeting up there as well. So there is plenty to get through on this Friday. We'll have Mark Hunter for the Hunter's Edge as we dissect that Caulfield Guineas meeting. The weekend preview team will concentrate on Sydney and also in Melbourne. So looking forward to that. Benny Caluzzi, Mickey Gannon, Dean Watling and Zach Dumbridge will be joining me. We've got Robbie Griffiths who will have a chat to us. We'll catch up with all of our experts as well around the country to try and find you a few winners this weekend in Perth and Brisbane and also in Adelaide. We'll find you some winners today with bag of tips as well across the three codes. Country Corner with Josh McGuinness and Jane Ivel. We'll look at her best bets there in New Zealand this weekend. Plus, we're going to give two tickets away to our marquee for Geelong Cup Day. Shane Bennett and the team there at the Ultima Hotel and Oz Equipment Rentals. He puts on some show there Geelong Cup Day. So we've got two tickets valued at around $1,000. We're going to give two tickets away to our marquee for Geelong Cup Day. So that is a terrific prize that we'll give away this morning. Plus, we're going to announce that we've got a Cox Plate Eve show once again at the Ascot Vale Hotel. So we're going to do the show live from there on the Friday morning and then after that we're having our luncheon and we've got some big name guests that I've confirmed in the last 24 hours. So I'm looking forward to that. We'll announce that a little later on as well. It's two minutes past eight. Let's get stuck in to our Friday show.
Speaker 1On Giddy Up, it's time for the Hunter's Edge with Mark Hunter.
Speaker 2And Mark Hunter joins me here on this Friday morning. Happy Coolfield Guineas Eve, Mark.
Speaker 3Morning, Gareth. Morning, all. Let's hope, Gareth, let's just hope we survived the Glenn 20 attack. Why? You've just sprayed half a tin. I feel like I'm Louis the Fly. I feel like Louis the Fly. I've just been attacked.
Speaker 2Well, Lizzie, Lizzie Gels, the wonderful Lizzie, she's been in the studio and she told me she was crooks. I didn't want you to get crooks.
Speaker 3She's got a half a tin in my throat, the Glenn 20.
Speaker 2Have you walked the track yet, Mark? No, I haven't. No. I'm looking forward to you walking this track today. Thank you. When are you walking it? Today. All right, then. Any chance you could have done it before this show?
Speaker 3Well, it's going to be 26 today, Gareth, and the closer to the race date you can walk it, the better guide you get. Okay. You could do it twice.
Speaker 2Oh, yeah, in all spare time. Yeah. Mark Hunter brought to you by Kia with Win Bigger. With Kia's Premiership offers on the EV3 and EV5. Visit your local dealer today. It's been a good day this day to you.
Speaker 3Great day. 2019? Yes. Super Seth, I think. Yeah, it was a great day. I thought he won easy. The angle I had in the mounting yard, down on the little mounting yard there, I thought, I didn't know what all the fuss was about. I thought he won by a long neck and then the photo came up and he got there by a short half head, thank goodness.
Speaker 2I reckon at the 200 metre mark, you didn't think you'd be winning.
Speaker 3But no, he was always travelling well, but it looked like alligator blood was off and gone. Yeah. And then you watch the replay, it's a miracle. The two big wins that I've had, Merchant Navy and Super Seth, both, you know, just a matter of inches can change the game.
Speaker 2Yeah. You've been blessed, really.
Speaker 3Well, I've had a lot of slow ones.
Speaker 2I've got a lot of slow ones.
Speaker 3I've got a lot of slow ones now, don't worry.
Speaker 2Yeah. Looking forward to catching up with Sam Bennett. He's about to join us to get an update on this Caulfield track at the start of their carnival. So there'll be a lot of fun. We'll be racing Saturday, Wednesday and Saturday. They had a wonderful night last night for the launch. They're celebrating 150 years this year. So much history, so many wonderful stories that have been told at that beautiful racetrack over the years, Mark.
Speaker 3Yeah. You asked me before, favourite Caulfield Cup. I heard you ask somebody on the phone. Favourite Caulfield Cup winner. I'd go Old Ming Dynasty, which is probably back before your time. Mine might have been at primary school. He won it twice, didn't he? He did. He's 50 to one. He paid $14 on the total.
Speaker 2Yeah. When I think about the Caulfield Cup when I was a young lad back in the day, Might and Power. Yes. One of the great performances ever. It's one of those moments where, as a young racing fan, and it was just before my time really, but I fell in love with Saintly back in 96. But then you look back at when people talk about Might and Power and that ride from Jimmy Cassidy when he wasn't meant to go to the front. Yeah. And he just. Extraordinary win. Yeah. It was an extraordinary. Extraordinary win. Yeah. So we'll have a chat about the Caulfield Guineas, meaning we'll relive some of our favourite moments as well. But we're going to try and find you a winner on this Saturday. And Sam Bennetts joins us, the track manager at Caulfield. Hello to you, Sam.
Speaker 4How are you boys? How are you?
Speaker 2Good. Thank you, mate. What are you looking like there? Or what's it looking like there for tomorrow?
Speaker 4Yeah. I just went up a good fall this morning. Yeah. So, you know, we received almost as much rainfall as Flemington did this morning. Sort of late last week there. So we had 73 mils over that weekend, which is sort of, we've just seen the track slowly improve. I think if anyone saw the track out on Tuesday there here, yeah, sort of, it was quite, it was a genuine soft track then. So like I said, we've sort of seen a gradual improvement all week.
Speaker 2Yeah. We have to irrigate because it's a hot day today?
Speaker 4I think so. So even yesterday with that, with the sort of consistent wind sort of drawing the most, the moisture out of it and yeah, the winds continued all through this morning. And as you say, it's sort of top temperature today is sort of looking at 26 there. So I would have thought we have to put something on. Unfortunately, I was really hoping that we could sort of just cruise through with a rainfall that fell last week, but not the case. So I wouldn't have thought we'd put anything more than six mil on and probably no less than four. Okay.
Speaker 2Then, and what about the wind conditions tomorrow?
Speaker 4Yeah. It looks like a, um, uh, Northwestly 15 to 25 K for that Northwestly. It's a bit of a diagonal wind and, um, certainly on that lower end, I don't think it's going to impact racing.
Speaker 2Yeah. All right. Then, and, um, obviously you got the rail back in the true as well.
Speaker 4That's right. Rail back in the true. Um, we haven't been at true since PAB Lawrence day there in the middle of, uh, August. So yeah, that inside sort of half of the track sort of, uh, had, or it had all of September off. So it's a really good Nick and I don't think you really need to be a track walker to see, uh, you know, where you, where you probably want to be on Saturday.
Speaker 2Yep. All right, mate. You're looking forward to it. It's the start of the carnival and, um, it should be a terrific couple of weeks.
Speaker 4Yeah. Really excited. Obviously, as you said, 150th year of the Caulfield cup. So, um, yeah, it's obviously an honor of mine to, to be associated with the club for, for such a momentous occasion. So really looking forward to the week and, um, try and get some sleep the week after.
Speaker 2All right, then we wish you the best of luck. Thanks for that, Sam. Cheers boys. Sam Bennett's there. So we're going to be on a good fall. They'll have to irrigate the rails back into the true. Um, yeah. Hopefully this plays like we expect it to play now, Mark.
Speaker 3Yeah. You think the, the inside half of the track would have to be the spot to be. It's been well rested. You had some great rain, some beautiful weather. It should be the spot to be.
Speaker 2So how do you think the track will play then? Well, sure. Caulfield good for, um, the wind conditions might play a small part.
Speaker 3Yeah, maybe if it blows up for sure, it could play a part, but you'd think it should be fair racing across the inside half of the track, which they're not massive fields. So it should pretty much. Cater for every horse to get a fair chance.
Speaker 2All right, then mate, we're going to take a quick break. It's eight minutes past eight on the other side of it. We'll get stuck into our preview for Caulfield Guinness day.

What's gambling really costing you? For free and confidential support, visit gamblinghelponline.org.au. Send us a text on the Gareth's Horse and Hound text line 0 4 double 9 7 3 6 7 3 6. That's 0 4 double 9 7 3 6 7 3 6. And the Hunter's Edge brought to you by Kia. Win big with Kia's premiership offers on the EV3 and EV5. Let's have a look at the first race at Caulfield. Can't wait for this to kick off. Caulfield. Guinea's Day with Bet365. And it's an interesting market as well. VIP, despite the draws, a solid favourite for Team Freedman at $290. Encano Star, the brother to Jimmy Stars at $420. Just Desserts at $460. Empress Zoo at $9. Ignusa at $10. One of the great beers that I've come across these days. And then Classic Gem at $12. Bring Forth at $29. And Regal Line at $34. Mark Hunter, who wins the first?
Speaker 3Fantastic race. - Thanks Gareth, some real and comers with ones in picket fences in their form i'm going with vip i think he's the one that's been at the better class race last time the 84 grade as opposed the other promising ones coming through i don't think the barrier is a disadvantage i can see quite a few going forward i reckon if blake jumps he can slot in fifth or sixth quite comfortably so look for him to get across there be stalking the right horses you know his one defeat was in a good race end of prep i think vip is the one to beat number nine in candice are you wouldn't say it's super impressive because it doesn't win by big margins but i think it's a horse that gets the front and basically pulls up i think there's a lot more to offer it's got a great barrier draw get a beautiful run three emperor zoo wet or dry doesn't matter it's one of those kirin mar horses that just keeps going in campaigns i think five regal lions got a good place chance had no luck last time i think it's a harder race for 10 just desserts but it'll go forward get a great run carrying big weight i thought place best only for just desserts because it's such a strong race so vip the one to beat where does vip get to in the run well the four that go forward here just desserts bring forth spicy loo if it's coming down and emperor zoo all go forward so i think blake can slide across behind them maybe having candice are inside him so i think they can settle four fifth six somewhere there i think there's a spot there's a few horses get back so i reckon blake can blend into the running line about
Speaker 2fifth geez it's a good race to kick off proceedings i know gator loves his benchmark racing on these big days but this is this is one hell of a benchmark
Speaker 380 well if you come here within candice are you would think you would automatically run favorite if you come with just desserts you think you run favorite but they've run into vip you've got a horse like ignusa who's highly promising i don't know that can win here probably settles last runs on look for it in a couple of starts time but it's a ripping race to kick the day off what are
Speaker 2you learning from this first race when you're trying to analyze the pattern maybe for the day
Speaker 3uh i don't think the pattern will be a big issue here because the good horses are going to be up the front and vip is only going to be sort of fifth or sixth in the run so what you wouldn't want to see the inside two lanes scoot away and just keep on going vip hook out and just hold his ground and nothing make ground from the back that would be the only warning signal you would get from race one but i think the way the race shapes up it should give every horse their fair chance does he remind you anything of his brother in can i start well look he trialed fantastic he should have won on the boo his next three wins have been good and he's just in the right stable to keep taking through the grades i think there's a lot more to the to be seen than what he's shown so far so he's a horse of high promise and he'll be fully tested in this field tomorrow and he
Speaker 2always sets a high standard kiramar but geez he's had a couple of big weeks he's
Speaker 3flying his horses are peaking at the right time um yep he's look he's an outstanding trainer to manage that many and basically to run them all year round a lot of those stayers just kept running all year round like mr monaco and and they just go in and out of form but they tend to peak at the right time he does an incredible job and
Speaker 2even that job he did with the next
Speaker 3episode yeah yeah that's right well he you can see he's uh he can chop and change his venues where they train and if something's not working he just tinkers with it and a horse like that who looked in trouble after those two sydney trials suddenly it's just a little tinker and it's back in action
Speaker 2the three-year-old phillies do battle in the thoroughbred club of australia plates sequined is an interesting horse she can be a little mad i reckon but mcdonald rides for her a tricky gate waller trains at three dollars with bet 365. fiery fun at 440. gas station rose at eight dollars moana spirits first up here at eight dollars fifty jacaranda at nine dollars and verse zane tommy stokes gave her a good enough push there yesterday twelve dollars here mark
Speaker 3came with two hopes five and nine i think sequined is the one to beat for sure i think it's easily the best form in the race it was a fantastic win first up on the kenzo getting out of the pack and roaring home to win there over the 1100 the 1200 meter race not everything went right saffron veil and blessed eagle both had better runs they've both come out in one since and sequin was too good for them jump to the 1400 in the t-rows the issue with sequin is it doesn't settle properly unless they're running along did too much work i think sequined is going to be the best form in the race just got left a sitting shot but that's bangkok hottie striking alibi global goals in the race it's easily the best form so they've dropped it back to 1200 here in the hope that there's more tempo and it settles i think from that wide gate he's just going to take his medicine come back hopefully they're running along the scratching of lucky brook has taken some heat out of the race but it still looks like jacaranda rosetta super beck the inside three gates should run along okay you just there just needs to be tempo you need to be able to run on the horse needs to settle get some cover it should just come to the outside let rip and i think it's the best horse in the race five fiery fun i'm sorry nine fiery fun it's a good horse the issue with fiery fun is that its first two jump outs are on wet ground its first two starts are on wet ground it looked terrific in both of those it's been back to the trial since on dry ground trolled okay but you wouldn't say it trailed as well so a dry track is the query you've got with fiery fun you'll get a beautiful run i can see the two of them coming down the center together i think with half even luck that sequin will just run them down and win so five to beat nine so five
Speaker 2to beat nine with all of those different variables however that you just pointed out with the favorite um what price could you take i think it's a fair
Speaker 3price i think three dollars yeah i think it's okay if the race works out okay i think sequin to win rosy attic was good the other day i know this is much tougher much much tougher so it's a much harder race for rose attic yep yeah moana spirit first up the other day it's had the four trials which is a lot put the blinkers on first time at 1200 meters which is a query uh its last jump out was good if i was it would be in the numbers if i was putting third and fourth picks in but a little little curious it's had the four jump outs and it goes blinkers first time at 1200. i'd
Speaker 2love to get your theory on these sydney three-year-olds and sydney horses coming to caulfield
Speaker 3for the first time um it's i think each horse is different sequined is a query because it gets its head up if they go slow and doesn't settle properly so sequined is a query that's why the scratching of lucky brooks a little worry yeah as long as the races are under genuine tempo i'm happy to give every horse their chance to handle caulfield first go race
Speaker 2number three is the vars over the 1600 meters scratchings are clear here and this is a good little race for the meds as i have a look at the market and surf and bird is at 380. on display display was mighty in defeat there first up at 440. savatry at 440 perfect 10 at nine dollars astral flame at ten dollars then we go to moonlight circuits at twelve dollars we've bet three six five private legacy at fifteen big prices for the rest here mark hunter
Speaker 3not a lot between them gareth but i think savitri is the one going to get the beautiful run she's a good mare she's come back from a spell she should have won first up she was too keen went to mornington controlled the race and far too good for them you go back last campaign beat paltrow misses good form uh the australasian oaks wasn't disgraced whether she leads or whether she takes a sit on a horse like surf and bird i'm not sure but she should get every chance from barrier one five on display on display was terrific first up in the blinkers three wide all the way dash clear should have won now a month between runs wide gate mile but hard to beat one surf and bird i think surfing bird's best win was here at caulfield it ran okay first up will be fitter and two private legacy good run first up private legacy i think there's a race in it for sure this campaign whether it's this one i'm not sure but look for it to be running on so i'll go nine five one and two
Speaker 2nine five one and two so if you're riding surfing bird is your best play jordy charles the cross savatry and try and put her into the pocket here and dictate the
Speaker 3race yeah or the day it won at caulfield i think from memory blake wrote it it just sat three wide i think blake wrote okay yeah three wide the belmont gangster was the heavily backed horse outside the leader but didn't go a
Speaker 2yard that day i think blake wrote it just sat three wide i think blake wrote okay sat three wide the belmont gangster was the heavily backed horse outside the leader but didn't go a yard that day
Speaker 3but no and um surfing bird just sat there and in its rhythm just built its revs and bolted in so anywhere forward the other horse astral flame if it runs it's drawn wide it's probably the other horse that goes forward but surfing bird and savitri should be able to control the race in some fashion up front
Speaker 2i know you pride yourself on being one of the great mentors um i know i'm a work in process i understand that but you must be really happy with the way marks are as he straps it's
Speaker 3springtime yeah that's when he shines here yeah you had to give
Speaker 2him a bit of a word didn't
Speaker 3you no i think a few others got him a few others a bit of social media commentary about it look he he did have a little lean patch by his lofty standards um but he's back in action and he's he's right back in action can you see
Speaker 2changing him then is it like is he just an athlete that switches on at this time of the year or does it take him a little bit to get his confidence back or get into the rhythm again you don't
Speaker 3you don't hear a difference i wouldn't he's never said something like gee i think things aren't going quite so well he's never said anything like that he's always a very confident person confident his own ability like he comes across as so blasé and enjoying life and doing that but you wouldn't meet a more professional person dieting and doing form and walking tracks and ticking all the boxes so somebody like that it's just a matter of time before things swing back into action and
Speaker 2i think he also plays a major part in when he gets involved in a horse like a next episode for instance goes up to sydney trials it back here and then you can see him lift at the last hundred meters he gets to know these horses inside out yeah he does he's
Speaker 3yep for sure like the next episode after that sydney trial i'm sure he would have had queer he's on what's what and in bube was right in the picture that they were meant to clash they didn't clash so he could ride in bube then he tried the next episode he makes a judgment call and he's obviously gone the right way on display how does he ride
Speaker 2this horse i think she's the best horse in the race would you agree with that if she went like she did there the other day she's a good
Speaker 3horse she's a good horse so 600 meter form you go back when she was having that little purple patch her mile form's great he's gonna need luck i don't know where he fits in whether he can get the back of sneaky sunrise and find a spot 567 somewhere there but there's certainly a chance on display you'll be able to see it on the head-on shot stuck out three wide there's certainly a
Speaker 2chance of that can you still win the race if you can like zara's great at doing this as well when you can rate your horse three wide with no cover you
Speaker 3can for sure some jockeys can do it some jockeys can't um the good jockeys horses tend to travel for them no matter where they are so it just makes it harder like a mile is the outer reach of its distance range if it's covering more ground than savitri and surf and bird who are getting great runs it just tells the last 150 meters but you certainly can still win we're going to take a
Speaker 2break this is the hunter's edge on this friday morning as we preview the caulfield guineas meeting on the other side of the break we'll have a look at the herbert power stakes
Speaker 1join the conversation text us on 0499 736 736 live across australia this is giddy up with gareth hall welcome back to giddy up

Speaker 3it was a great show last year you and organization yeah do not go in the same sentence please um
Speaker 2oh four double nine seven three six seven three six two join our conversation on the garrett's horse and hound text line and we've got our merch this is our first skiddy up we're going to get a hunter's edge um hat as well would you wear this one no one why not classes with your safari jack yes sorry not made by new balance anyway these hats thirty five dollars paulie sebastiani how do we get thirty five dollars it costs about three to make three to making something for thirty five here we go just because you get everything for free mark what
Speaker 5a rule merch.scn.com.au is where you can purchase this is what you are
Speaker 2a pinhole um and the favorite in the herbert power stakes is pinhole um at three dollars eighty with bet three six five so kumar's at six dollars shockwaves at six dollars shockwaves at six future history at six fifty knights choice at ten dollars machine gun gracie at ten dollars solcom at fifteen and some tour at nineteen dollars one of the early things that you've taught me um is intent and so when i have a look at this race and i might be reading too much into this but sakuma's in the melbourne cup if he wins he'll get a penalty but then you think well it's a great race for him to win chocolate she's in the melbourne cup if she wins she'll get a penalty she's at six dollars and then you look at horses like solcom and a few others that need to run top three um to qualify i heard chris waller
Speaker 3interviewed and he said solcom has to run top three to qualify so yeah we'll ride to run third and a better result if it comes around that's great that's just shows you why he's always thinking in such a
Speaker 2good uh yeah so that that means um we need to think like them don't we
Speaker 3we do so i think there are three and a half chances here zakuma can win zakuma's i think graham big's got zakuma exactly where he wants it it just wasn't quite ready to go with zaran and saint george on the home turn last time but then held its ground really well it's at the 2500 meters which suits it better it's going terrific so it can win the race i think number six night choice has got a fantastic chance you go back through this horse's dry track staying runs you go back to a race that should have nearly beaten vow and declare up in queensland johnny simons will tell you it should have won the bendigo cup on dry ground maybe it should maybe it shouldn't but it ran well and of course the melbourne cup where it won did you find the melbourne cup on a drive no and you look back and you should have well it's a wider i was on absurd they kept made their run together and then nice choice just kept going and absurd didn't uh but it's so it's come back off that spell blake shin wrote it sent it forward over 2000 which is probably not its ideal go it got held up on the corner lost all its momentum then held its ground really well to the line so this horse is flying it gets out to 2400 meters it gets dry ground it gets barrier one v shin sticks with it it's got a fantastic chance and 12 pinhole just looks like your chris waller take them through the grades give them a couple of runs of the trip tip them out bring them back it's going super it's got j mac to ride it'll relish 2500 meters it would be my top pick in the race the other one is chocolates they've taken the blinkers off chocolate so they put them on last time and she jumped out of the one well she's a terrific stayer she'll still run well without blinkers but that just may be the the winning edge that she needs so i'll go 12 6 4 then
Speaker 214. so 12 6 4 and 14.
Speaker 3um caulfield cup
Speaker 2cosmic crusader into 450 now with bet 365 saran eight dollars half yours nine dollars wine dark sea into nine dollars and vichar for my man ray dawson at thirteen dollars saint george at 13 royal supremacy at fifteen i hope he wins into nineteen dollars now she's a hustler twenty to one green space is at twenty six juja cabo at twenty six dollars and staff it looks like lucky neindorf he has got that right there on the joseph o'brien train galloper at twenty six dollars out of this race i asked chris waller if pinhole one for instance would he back up he goes i don't think he's a caulfield cup well he's up to caulfield cup class would probably pivot towards like a mooney valley cup i don't
Speaker 3know would zakuma run it wouldn't run would it no i don't think so no no so i don't think you'd be that scared of anything that's in this race as far as the caulfield cup goes for a horse like cosmic crusader i don't think you'd be that scared of anything in this race is he the horse to beat now cosmic crusader in a cool field cut mark dare i ask he's got to be hard to beat he he was a beneficiary of um light infantry's man tactics last week where sir delius and alyana weren't quite ready for that brutal battle he was a beneficiary of um light infantry's man tactics last week where sir delius and alyana weren't quite ready for that brutal battle tempo they were only second and third up so they weren't ready he's rock hard fit but he ticked the two thousand meter box he's absolutely they've got him humming that you're a believer now mark i was always gareth he had to prove that he was as good as alyana and sir delius yes he's he uh he'd been very good he kept going he keeps going up a notch in grade and he keeps answering the question
Speaker 2how could saran beat him in a
Speaker 3caulfield cup well the only thing is zaran's trained by kieran ma now the way zaran went was awful so ethan could have written jimmy starr was iran it's got to be a lead that kieran it's
Speaker 2told him here to stay
Speaker 3here yes that has to be a good lead so i would back kieran marta turns around around whether it's it's got to turn around a long long way but yeah if there was any doubt i would imagine ethan would be riding jimmy starr calvin
Speaker 2mcavoy made a really good point on when on the wednesday agenda saying that yes cosmic crusader was really good and yes he belted up half yours but they're at different periods of their preparation and expect improvement with my horse let's
Speaker 3half yours alyana sir delius once lighter victory man rode the race like that they basically had if there was any query on your fitness you were gone you had no output in the race and so delius was only second up at the chase it's not ready to do that it is it will be in three weeks um alyana just had that beautiful lead-up run she's right on target and half yours ran well from midfield second up ran as well as it could the forecast in early in the week is messy so it just could be right in half yours as favor next week what did
Speaker 2you make of wine dark sea it's been a big mover in the last 48 hours damian lane rode that horse yesterday for the charlatans um it's got gate speed it's settled in well um it's into nine
Speaker 3dollars now i'd have to have another look to be but i have seen the horse i think it's more of a caulfield couple so i didn't have it down as staying 3 200 meters so the caulfield cup should be the perfect race for it and that last win for memory it's last win it bolted in and looked outstanding i think the run before was a bit below par i don't know what happened there but the last win was good enough to be a caulfield cup contender are you tipping in the herbert power again number 12 pinhole 12 6 4 then 14.
Speaker 2yep 12 6 4 and then 14. we move on to the northwood plume stakes which is race five for the mares over the twelve hundred meters bridal walter at 280 luke dolan takes over point barrow at 290 nafer at ten dollars abounding at 13. eagle express at 17 dollars photograph at 23. tomato toasty first up this campaign at 23 dollars here comes the star at 26 marigold at 26 and then bossy bonita at 31 dollars here here mark is it a race in two uh
Speaker 3race in three yeah i'll go seven two one number seven brighter waltz look look the query for brighter waltz is a hard track so we've got 26 degrees today if the track she looks like she's going to get a great run in front she's got tomato toasty and bossy benita going forward with her but i think she'll control the race she will i would imagine go a bit faster than last time in front and two runs back have been okay like i thought a live another day put paid to her in two strides and then last time i know he got blamed for going too slow be melon but still she went okay she didn't go great now she's third up from a spell it's time to stand up for brighter while she gets a soft lead i think she does and she's going to be very hard to run down to point barrow terrible barrier for point barrow there's just nowhere for him to fit in he's got to go back to last again give brighter waltz a big start again and try and run it down again but she's she was terrific last time she'll be fitter and abounding is the big improver here this horse gets the blinkers on first time gets jmac first time gets dry ground you go back to i think it was the cochran behind um magic time and miss rumbini she was terrific she gets a good draw she's just behind the speed i think she's the other winning chance in the race so i will go seven two one seven two and one um i'm
Speaker 2weighing up abounding or sakuma for my top four weekend preview multi you'd think either one pounding
Speaker 3abounding put some value into it i'd be surprised if sakuma is top four abounding you are banking on it finding its best form it had excuses down the straight you are banking on it finding its best form so zakuma's probably a safer bet but you're so in love with the heathcote stable you'll probably
Speaker 2go about it yep i love the heathcote stable and jmac rides yep top of the ground big improvement why did you even ask it's a no-brainer um 836 we'll take a break we'll continue on our preview of this coolfield guineas meeting and the next race we'll take a look at will be the scalacci stakes which sees a return of jigsaw join the conversation
Speaker 1text us on 0 4 9 7 3 6 7 3 6 live across australia this is giddy up with
Speaker 2gareth hall welcome back to giddy up gareth hall mark hunter with you with the hunter's edge it's great to have you here with us today and we'll see you in the next race have your company on this friday morning it's hard not to get excited when you've got a meeting like this and the scalacci stakes is a beauty jigsaw returns what a campaign he had there last time around it was one hell of a training performance by cindy oldest and he won in new zealand he won his first group one in melbourne and then he went to perth to win a quokka he did it all um he's at two dollars twenty he's an eight-year-old to come back and win here from an inside gate ray mcnerio they tell me my spies at cranburn that this scallop has never been better he's at 460 flying for fun he's still trying to get out first up she's at 550 in karuna at 12 grand larceny at 13 and then you got barbara streisand at 15 it was a good push from clint mcdonald yesterday desert lightning at 19 spywire at 19 and then andrew lewis's horse watch me win is a 26 chance here mark hunter one to beat
Speaker 3six gareth i like uh jigsaw to win he's been been a brilliantly placed horse by cindy alderson he's been a brilliantly placed horse by cindy alderson he's been a brilliantly placed horse by cindy alderson he's been a brilliantly placed horse by cindy alderson he just gets in races he controls them he kicks his last seven wins have been unbelievable and i think he'll do the same it doesn't look to be a heap of pressure spywire from seven looks like the other one that goes forward i'm not sure what they'll do with streisand from that outside gate yes you do
Speaker 2you're good you would have been asked
Speaker 3about it no he's
Speaker 2been off the boil
Speaker 3so he sort of has
Speaker 2been okay he's
Speaker 3been hiding okay
Speaker 2so so you see like you just when he's going well you're there when he's not
Speaker 3you're not he doesn't answer your call he's been hiding under the bed sheets uh so sounded well
Speaker 2yesterday clint mcdonald when i had a chat to him maybe it's you it's a front
Speaker 3uh so i think so jigsaw will lead spywire outside it should control the race trolled well should kick and certainly should be the one to run down i think the big danger here fantastic place bet is number six grand larceny this horse first up you might remember went to the valley short odds was expected to win and didn't win but it went into that race off only one jump out now it went into last campaign of three jump outs went to adelaide and won easily just sat behind them got through it was a soft win it comes into this race here with the same preparation three jump outs they've been beauties b malum's been on them each time i think it can go forward sit fourth on the back of spywire come out of the pack it'll give chase it's got a chance of beating jigsaw but i think it's a sensational place bet so one to beat six then you're out to two ray mcnerio he's a beauty he'll be back he'll be running on for sure seven in karuna i don't think can win but can sit leaders back and might run a place and eight flying for fun it's going to need luck again it should be a leader dominated race it's going to be back in the pack it gets james mcdonald had no luck first up probably should have won a sangster look it can run a place but it's going to need things to go right so i think jigsaw will probably win but i reckon grand larceny will get very close one to beat six
Speaker 2so grand larceny's got enough gate speed to get in front of ray mcnerio and sit on spywire yes yeah and ray will follow grand larceny uh ray will be
Speaker 3back in the pack with flying for fun yeah i don't think desert lightning is quick enough at 1100 meters and watch me win probably not quick enough it's back and wide i just i'm not sure what they do with streisand they wouldn't want to gut buster it here at staying at 1100 but you got to go forward with 51 on it where does she go because she's she's no quicker than spywire so where does she fit in what is three one two three why without covering on a bad spot well it's got the cool more coming up as a grand final the last thing he wants a gut buster yeah but then if
Speaker 2you're out i don't know if you're out the back no he's in trouble
Speaker 3he's got a terrible
Speaker 2barrier yeah and that's why you need barriers as wayne hawks keeps on saying you know you do
Speaker 3well he's got one here he's i love the preparation the three you know giving them one jump out leaves them so vulnerable uh giving them three jump outs they're ready and malum gives them sort of just improves them a bit each jump out so he'll if he's riding the horse in the jump outs it'll be peak to go first up he's eight years of age
Speaker 2jigsaw like is that in the back of your mind or sometimes do we like we read too much into that
Speaker 3no look there's a point in life where whether it be an athlete or a horse or whatever there's a point in life where things suddenly catch up on you now jigsaw's last seven are totally different to its form before that so it's just having a complete purple patch of its life but there there will be a point in time where it gets run down and it may never be the same horse again so it will just happens to everybody
Speaker 2because did he surprise you how well he went last preparation yeah i i
Speaker 3kept taking i thought arkansas kid would get him on a soft track in new zealand didn't get near him um that
Speaker 2run in the quokka was enormous like i know he's got that gate speed but he had to do a pair of work that day he looked like the quokka set up beautifully
Speaker 3for him he ran you know he's just had a great campaign that kept it off the william reed was probably the one that surprised me that he could fight all those that was a good field how he could do a great job and that's why i think
Speaker 2that's why i think that's why he's got to do a great job and that's why i think that's why he's got to do a great job and that's why he's got to do a great job and that's why he's got to do a great job and that's why he's got to do a great job and that's why he's got to do a great job and that's why he's got to do a great job and that's why he's got to do a great job and that's why he's got to do a great job and that's why he's got to do a great job and that's why he's got to do a great job and that's why he's got to do a great job and that's why he's got to do a great job and that's why he's got to do a great job and that's why he's got to Birdman 380, Treasure of the Moment 11, Kingswood $15, Land Legend at 80 to 1, and Torosino is $126 here, Mark.
Speaker 3Six to beat one, Gareth. She's alibi, four goes at the mile, outstanding, no reason to doubt her over the 2,000 metres. I would think she probably goes forward, maybe Evan Park's second outside Kingswood, who I think would be your leader. Control the race, kick and win. Birdman, he's flying Birdman, he's a sensitive combination of maybe working out how to ride him best, getting onto dry ground, a bit of maturity, he's flying. It's not his grand final, as you mentioned before, he's got the cocks plate to come in a couple of weeks, but he'll come out of the pack, he'll give chase, and he'll run second. I would be surprised if they don't run one-two comfortably, six to beat one. Treasure of the Moment? Well, she showed a return to things. Last week, she showed a return to things. Last time, but she had a couple chasing out wide that got gassed, chasing and dropped off. She had the software on the fence, she got through, but it was great to see a sign of life, it was great to see her return to form. I think they'll ride her the same way, they'll tuck behind. Like Chris Waller mentioned before, you ride to run second and hope something goes amiss with the fave. So I think they'd ride her the same way, they'd want to see her put in a repeat performance, be right back on track. She ran well last time, so they're good signs. How did this Johnny Allen ride Kingswood? Well, I think it probably leads. Like, you go through Landledge and they've spent two years trying to get it to settle. I can't imagine they tip that upside down in one go. Torrenzino is not going to lead. Treasure of the Moment, they rode it differently last time and it ran better, so you'd think they'd ride it the same way. And I wouldn't think Birdman's going to go out and lead. So it leaves really only Kingswood and she's an alibi as maybe the two from the wider gates that roll forward and control the race. So, look, Kingswood's trying to hang on to run second. It's not going to beat she. He's an alibi, you wouldn't think. It's trying to hang on and somehow make up three or four lengths on Birdman.
Speaker 2So does he make it a strong gallop or does he make it an even gallop? Because he's got the Caulfield Cup next week.
Speaker 3Yeah, just a nice steady gallop and, you know, try and lengthen from the 500 and hang on to run second.
Speaker 2It was interesting listening to Peter Moody yesterday on Giddy Up. picking his brain regarding what he was thinking with she's alibi going forward to get to the he's the big dance for them this campaign's a golden eagle and everyone's thinking oh why has he gone to this 2 000 meter race but when you look back at it now and you analyze this race it's genius in a way because he's going to get a soft run it's going to it's not going to be a brutally run 2 000 meters you won't have to do any work with her after this and then she she goes straight back to the 1500 meters at ramwick where if he went to say um the king charles where many thought that he might go then he runs into pride of jenny they're going to go lickety split with jenny in the race he's going to take auto and glow and it's going to be a lot harder for him it would have been a lot harder for him to get this horse to peak back to 1500 off a fast run 1600 meter race there mark well i
Speaker 3think you mean the minute you start doubting peter moody's thinking with one of these you really good horses i think you're on the wrong tram
Speaker 2so yeah i just found that interesting
Speaker 3yeah well you spoke for that long i lost track of what you're talking about then but yeah yeah i think
Speaker 2you were right yeah it's 8 47 i'm going to take a break on the other side of it we'll preview of course the caulfield guineas the feature race there on the cart at caulfield tomorrow
Speaker 1join the conversation text us on 0 4 9 7 3 6 7 3 6 live across australia this is giddy up with gareth hall welcome
Speaker 2back to giddy up all thanks to care the hunter's edge win big with key's premiership offers on the ev3 and ev5 visit your local dealer today and i'm excited mark the six horse challenge is back with bet 365 so you're a chance to win 100 000 um i'm confident i'll get close i don't know if i'll get all six right races 789 at caulfield and also at rose hill and if you don't get all six of them right you can still receive some cash if you pick four or five subject to availability eligible customers only terms and conditions apply what are you really gambling with for free and confidential support visit gamblinghelponline.org.au my mum doesn't really bet but she's got a bet 365 account because of this i think one lady won it she hadn't had she might have had one bet she won a hundred thousand that's great so um you play for free so you don't even you don't have to put any money on any of these you don't have to put any money on any of these these horses and um you just have to have a bet 365 account um and if you get all six right and you're the only person to do that there is a chance you win a hundred thousand dollars plenty of questions coming through this is a very good point why is the mind power with the dollar 30 favorite a leg of the quaddie mark
Speaker 3no i don't know because the last two legs are very tough and it could have been a big big quaddie you put something like the herbert power or uh i don't know it's another race there but yeah i'm i don't know
Speaker 2the answer um jake says you to remind me of two grumpy old men either feeding the pigeons or fishing off a pier and arguing over everything very funny i i'm not old you are well you're grumpy so you got half the tips um plenty text messages coming through do you know what we'll do mark we'll save them for the final part of the show let's have a look at the caulfield guineas this is the race that mark hunter has won i forgot to do my car park oh so i forgot to press park i hope if any um parking inspectors out there he's got a forward drive just up the road in coventry street get him twice for me please um how many times you won the caulfield guineas one yeah super seth well woven's the favorite this is the cult by sort of state it's at two dollars 20 bjorn baker rachel king blind races are gelding he's at 360 trombolt is barry 11 cray williams rides at eight dollars mcdonald didn't want to ride trombolt he wanted to ride central europe at 15 he's a believer wolf gap at 17 call me coach at 17 unit 5 at 23 diamond is he the forgotten horse at 26 something's burning at 26 tornado valley at 29 and sarah fox is the rough of the field at 71 dollars here mark hunter
Speaker 3i think the sydney form is easily the best form gareth for starters yeah and i think war woven will win it's just got to repeat the golden rose run now having said that i don't know where that run came from it the previous all its previous runs sort of been up on speed over 11 and 1200 it would win some races but it wouldn't be outstanding it would get there it'd get clear it win by half a length to three quarters of a length you would think from that run to the rose first up that st gotthard would improve more out of the race going to the golden rose second up than war woven would third up but just worked the other way war woven had a beautiful trail so at fifth inside got clear just blew them away ran it's unbelievable time i think it's comfortably the best form in the race i think that rachel king will go forward park up in the first two maybe three control the race and if war woven runs that golden rose run i can't see how it doesn't win i think tron bolt tron bolt's got a horrible draw it's going to be reliant on pressure but you look at chris waller's got such an arsenal you think back to last year autumn boy it's like it's you know it's like it was saint goddard's time to win the golden rose tron bolt you're in the race you run well but the caulfield guineas is your race it seems like from the outside that's how the stable approaches things tron bolt ran i thought terrific first up had caulfield guineas written all over it ran okay second up it will be a lot fitter it's as i say it's reliant on some pressure and i don't know where that pressure comes from but i've got it down as the danger five blind rays well it did go to queensland probably had excuses but didn't measure up it's come back it's two wins have been in much lesser grade i would imagine blake spears to the lead tries to control the race and tries to just kick it home it'll run well but it's certainly harder race 11 call me coach well if you're giving blind rays a chance wolfgaps had excuses both time against blind rays freedman's think call me coach is the best horse they've got in the race so that's got to give you the hope and wolfgap may be a place chance but i don't think he's good enough to win so i think the sydney form is the best form war woven's only got to repeat the golden race and i think it's going to be a good nose run and it should win two to beat four then five and eleven then nine
Speaker 2so jmax a bad judge then you haven't even put central europe in your top five i think
Speaker 3central europe has got a lot of woe to it and about it where promise the world hasn't really delivered for various reasons the horse that doesn't settle i think central europe's best chance was a mad run golden slipper where they go way too hard eight across the track at the 100 meter mark pokes its head through six last time i don't know how they were ever going to work and they can completely blow a horse up you wouldn't think they could possibly ride it the same way i can't see a spot where jmac fits in i think he has to go back if they don't go hard if blakeshin gets hold of this race they don't go hard i can't see central europe settling well enough like it's a stable it's a jockey how do they ride him i don't know he's got to be you couldn't possibly ride him the same way as last time he virtually got carried off the track there in sydney so he's got to bounce back i would think he's got to go back behind pretty well all the barriers inside him he's not a jockey that likes to concede and go back he likes to find a spot but i can't see where there is one so i would have him sixth or seventh giving a start you look through this race you wonder can they send anything forward there's one stable got four runners once they've got three runners can they send anything forward and i can't see a horse maybe tornado valley but that's about the only one i've got who can go forward and make it a different run race to how it looks there fox it's got no speed what about um does ball woven could it cross blind race i don't think so i think blind race is quicker early saying from gate two if if blake hands up he's in the lap of the gods i think his first choice would be to control the race from the from the top they
Speaker 2just look like they'll dominate it won't they well
Speaker 3tornado valley is the one it's got the blinkers on it's drawn eight it can't just hit three wide so i don't know what it does if it does too much work it's got no hope but like he's not that
Speaker 2type of jock really is he no no no um it's 8 56 i'm going to take a break we'll come back and we'll continue on our preview of the core field guineas in fact no breaks there you go um so what about call me coach where does it get to in the run
Speaker 3well it's an interesting one it got back on debut did an amazing job to win i think it's half asleep till about the 500 thought i better get chasing and it did that then in that small field of cramburn went forward and took bad luck out of five it's not a race if the two favorites sit up front and control it you've got no hope from the back so yeah i would think call me coach wouldn't want to be i don't know how close it can be but it wouldn't want to be that far away
Speaker 2okay trombolt's interesting he'll go back to last and he did wobble around core field there tuesday morning
Speaker 3yeah but he's he's just the right sort of horse he just sets horses to peak on grand final day and this is this is just looks like trombolt's target the whole way through but how does he win from there i don't he's just reliant on some pressure coming from the front so i think he's got a lot of hope from the back so i think somewhere otherwise he's just gonna have to peel off an unbelievable the two faves will have to run below par or he'll have to peel off an unbelievable section i think it's the i do think it's the best form it comes in autumn boy was four wide all the way last year in the golden rose so it was a better run than trombolt was yeah
Speaker 2all right then it's quickly approaching 858 we'll continue on our preview of the core field getting straight after nine o'clock here on giddy up this is the hunter's
Speaker 1join the conversation text us on oh four double nine seven three six seven three 636 live across australia this is giddy up with gareth hall welcome
Speaker 2back to giddy up gareth hall with you um great to have your company this is the hunter's edge all things to care mark's a little distracted because he's trying to back a horse right now i don't know at cranbourne tonight the friday fill up did you have any have any success trying to
Speaker 3background larceny here at
Speaker 2the place okay um now before we continue on our preview of the caulfield guineas we've got a question for you regarding the two tickets that we need to give away and this is a great prize varied around six or seven hundred dollars shane bennett very generous man um from all's equipment rentals and the mighty ultimate hotel is giving two tickets away um for his marquee there on geelong cup day and paulie sebastiani's come up with one hell of
Speaker 5a question gareth and listeners and mark you would all know this i hope who were the two jockeys to ride champion horse dunedin to all his feature victories in australia i speak of the 2011 geelong cup the 2011 melbourne cup and then the following year he won the 2012 caulfield cup so we need the two jockeys who rode him to feature victories in australia first one with
Speaker 2the correct dance oh four double nine seven three six seven three six on the garrett's horse and hound tech slime will win those two tickets yes to um geelong cup day i don't think there'll be too many horses that Geelong Cup, Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup, Mark. No, you wouldn't think so. No. War woven as we continue on our preview of the Caulfield Guineas. Now, I asked this question to Bjorn Baker there yesterday. When you have a look at the form guide, it's a very cool feel of first time. He said, Gareth, there's nothing to worry about.
Speaker 3I don't know the answer to the question. I'll bow to superior judgment. My theory is if your feet were that good, they wouldn't have to touch them.
Speaker 2That's my theory. That's a good theory. It's my only theory I've got. But you're still tipping him on top. Well, yes. Yeah. And the other question I've got for you here, out of war woven trombolts and also blind rays, can any of those three-year-olds that have got entries into the Cox plate be competitive in the Great Wait for Age race in a few weeks' time?
Speaker 3My first thoughts are they're going to struggle because it's going to be a brutally run race, you'd think, if Light Infantryman employs those same tactics. So it's going to be very hard for a three-year-old. War woven improved that much from 1,200 to 1,400. If it does it again, it's 16, it's going to burst on the scene. Blind rays, I think it would be a massive class rise going from beating a horse like a Merrigan Eagle to jumping into a Cox plate for blind rays. Maybe it does it. And trombolt, well, horses like, let's say you think, might have run fifth or sixth in a Caulfield Guineas, for memory, coming from the back, not having much going right. Yeah. Yeah. So trombolt, you can see, if the race, if the race didn't work out, it would be a similar run to a, so you think, but whether, whether someone like Chris Waller would go onto a Cox plate off that sort of run.
Speaker 2He will. That's because he, because he's had that Queensland campaign underneath him. And he, that's like, he doesn't really like running three-year-olds in a Cox plate. Militarized was the last horse that he did that with, but he thinks these horses had the grounding. And he could do so, you think in a way, or even a Seamus award where he flashes home in a Caulfield Guineas from that gate and tells Chris that he's going to run. That he's ready for a Cox plate.
Speaker 3It's going to be a good Cox plate. It's going to be a really good testing Cox plate. You've got the two horses that weren't quite fit enough last week. Should absolutely peak on the day. It's going to be genuinely run.
Speaker 2Mail is you've already had a bet. The Cox plate.
Speaker 3And what's your point?
Speaker 2Yeah. Who is it?
Speaker 3Why? Oh, I think she should have won last year when she supposedly wasn't going really well. Yeah. I think with a better steer, she wins or goes very close last year. She's just had that magnificent. Waller grand final preparation where she had the barrier trial first up improved. Second up wasn't ready for that type of race last time, but still ran really well and sat back on the fence, had a lovely trail into it. Good finish off. She should just pick completely in two weeks. You put a line through, um, so deal is no, not at all. He was only second up. He wasn't ready to do that. Chasing at all. He'll as long as he comes through that race. All right. Uh, he'll run a great race in the Cox. But what about Birdman? He's going, well, he's getting better with each run. He's going, well, you would have said a while ago, he was probably below the absolute a grade, but I think he's improving and no reason he couldn't run. Well, could pride of Jenny have won the Cox play?
Speaker 2I don't think so. No, I don't think so. Can they win or not in the Caulfield Guinea's over the 1600 meters, the sports spec, Caulfield Guinea's yes or no. Number one, unit five, no two wall woven. Yes. Three tornado Valley. No, four, Tron bolts. Yes. Five blind race. Yes. Six diameter. Nope. Seven central Europe. Nope. I ate something's burning. No nine Wolf gap. Hmm. Uh, I'll go now. 10 Sarah Fox 11. Call me coach. Yes. Race. Number nine is the Turek handicap over the 1600 meters. No scratchings to report just yet. The market with bet three, six, five. Well, it's wide open as you expect for a mall handicap race, a group, one level, a Caulfield and regal award at five 50 is the market leader. Ladies shed and Doha wallet decides to head to Melvin with McDonald's to ride. And she's at $6 changing colors at $8 being some story. Hadn't she for Lucy yeoman's this preparation evaporate eight 50. So barge ready to pick blinkers on third up at $10 warning at 11, salty Pearl at $12 for O'Shea at 16 Pinova at 19. Um, welcome to the show at $19. That's another terrific story. For Tyler tunnels at Aiken sun God at 20 to one Vaughn Hawke at $26, two done discreet at 26 Ponder low at 34 and Helsing's the Ruffy at $81.
Speaker 3It's probably easier to find who can't win than who came into this hard race. It looks like being run the same way as the Rupert Clark, where it whereby regal award, as long as it jumps, looks to be the only leader. He doesn't run at a slow tempo, but there's a lot of midfield get back horses here who are going to be, hell of a long way off the lure. So I'm going to tip regal award. He's got a run, a strong mile here. He, he wanted core field with that rail out a long way over a mile. He went to the car bond club Pinova running down quite easily. Now he ran well, first up he'll be fit up. You would think the track would be pretty dry. You would think he would take a stack of running down eight. So barge, gee, it's ready to fire. So barge gets the blinkers on for the first time. The all-star mile run, the Cranbourne cup run, the wall run, the barge. The worry is from the barrier where it gets to and how much that it has to give. So it does need some things to go right. Number nine sun. God, I think can improve a lot. I just think it wasn't ready to be written that close. First up in that race belted on quite well. We'll be fitter to lady Shenandoah. Her mile runs a good, the flight stakes. She was terrific. And then she chased the pride of Jenny speed and just got run down by idle flyer. So I'm not putting her at a mile. I think she'll run well. And 50 miles, 50 miles, 50 miles, and 15 salty Pearl. Who's followed her usual preparation. A couple of bowl arounds without blinkers, put the blinkers on and aim to peak. So I think she'll improve, but there are an absolute stack of chances. Six, eight, nine,
Speaker 2two, and 15, six, eight, nine,
Speaker 3two, and 15, um, no changing colors, much, much harder race. They've done a sensational job. Lucy Yeomans and Blake Shin. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I, I don't know. I, make a case for Panova. It's had one run back, it's had the jump out. It draws terribly. It's got to go a long, long way back. It'll be lucky to see the leader at the 800 metre mark. So it will have to make up a stack of ground. But again, it's in my wide quaddie. I wouldn't talk you out of it. Would you put Von Hawke in your quaddie? For sure. Von Hawke won that mile race on Cox Plate Day last year, won the Bendigo race, ran really well first up. Again, from the barrier, it's going to be giving a big start. And they're going to be a long way away from Regal Award at the 600 metre mark. Welcome to the show. Yep. You take a line through Sydney. It beat Sun God Home. It beat Helsing Home when Helsing was going well. Terrific win last time. Once they got near it, it sort of half kicked again. It's at least drawn well and doesn't have to get too far back. It would be in the wide quaddie.
Speaker 2Faroche, the gain hurts him.
Speaker 3I think Faroche is a rung below them. So a combination of that and gate 15. He runs well. He runs 50, runs well. But I can't see how he can win from that barrier.
Speaker 2Yes or no in the Highland Race Colours track handicap over the 1600 metres with Mark Hunter. Number one, Evaporate. You're going to have a lot of yeses here, Gareth.
Speaker 3Why? Well, I want you to be brave then. Well, Evaporate can win. All right then. If it recovers from that gut buster last time, it sits fourth or fifth inside, it can win.
Speaker 2Two Lady Shenandoah. Yes. Three Warnie. Yes. Four Faroche. No. Five Von Hawke. Yes. Six Regal Award. Yes. Seven Helsing. No. Eight Sabarch. Yes. Nine Sun God. Yes. Ten Panova. Yes. 11. Two Darn Discreet.
Speaker 3Not from the gate, no.
Speaker 212. Welcome to the Show. Yes. 13. Changing Colours. Yes. 14. Pondoloey.
Speaker 3You go through the Cranbourne Cup run with Sabarch. And Warnie was in that race Yes it can And 15 Salty Pearl Yes, so that's the sort of race it is
Speaker 2You know what, people say it's not a vintage T-Rex But that's what handicaps should be all about Even chances Most horses with an opportunity I think it'll be a great race Great punting race If you find the winner, you'll be well rewarded, Mark Yep, you will Race number 10 is the weekend hustler, Stakes He was a beauty, wasn't he? He was good War machines are scratching The Bet365 market here Harry Jeanne at $6 Persian Spirit at $6 Enzuto at $7 Stapati at $8.50 Regal Seuss at $10 It looks like Regal Seuss will go to Caulfield But Johnny Mercado will make a decision tomorrow morning Whether he goes to Caulfield or he heads to Seymour for the Cup Recon at $16 Lord of Biscay at $16 Pinstriped at $19 Fireball Miss at $19 Athanatos at $20 Holy Man at $20 Ole Dancer at $20 Run Harry Run at $21 And Wonderboy at $21 Lord Penman at $21 And then big prices for the rest
Speaker 3Mark was looking forward to riding War Machine from Barrier 17 He'd be devastated and scratched Yeah, he will It's vital where Regal Seuss runs Because it's the only leader Where would you run? Here I think it'll run fantastic I'm going to tip Harry Jott to beat it Harry Jott's had the two back Not suited for the race Not suited by the tempo of the race Regal Seuss one last time They look like there's a lot of speed Nothing else went forward So Regal Seuss got a soft lead Harry Jott just couldn't make up the ground The way the race was run But he ran well He's fitter For Regal Seuss When he finds his form He just spears to the top He takes a stack of running down Five's the party Came good last campaign's the party Recent trial was a ripper And two pinstriped I think they've got to just take their medicine He's not quite good enough for the absolute A graders Dropping back at him Second notch to this sort of race Draws horribly and needs a miracle But he's in his right grade So I think he's got a hope So I'll go 12, 4, 5 and 2 I need your help really
Speaker 2Regarding these slot races for Southside Racing I've had no luck really And this is a race that could be A race where we can identify a horse Like Stapati would be a good horse
Speaker 3Stapati, pinstriped I heard you mention Cote Atlantique He's a perfect horse for it Yep Harry Jott Yep Persian spirit Not sure Not sure where he's at He gets He draws for a good run The way the race will be run Persian spirit He had excuses on the wet track two ago I thought he would do a bit more last time This is easier He's fitter He's got a good barrier It's time for him to stand up No end zero Look it ran all right up the straight Was in the right part of the race It's got a chance You've finally dropped off Recon Where's he at? He ran terrific first up He probably should have won Comes out of a harder race He gets the blinkers on for the first time Won't shock me But I'm not sure where he's at
Speaker 2Hey Paulie Can you help me with a few of those questions And bring them across Because when we've had that competition It's just stuffed up my timeline So it takes me too long to go through all of them I appreciate that Your best bets here Mark We've got Spud's best as well In WA Best

Speaker 3You wouldn't think so
Speaker 2Sarah Fox in the Guineas Massive price Three starts Back two lengths Off Blind Rays Over fourteen hundred Third up again tomorrow And got left flat footed After a mid race move Last start Complete forgive And probably would have got close To winning that day Otherwise Was subtle enough before that Up to sixteen hundred Look for a boil over Cannot dismiss The Mar and Bates combo Probably needs a wet track Got an awful barrier

Speaker 1Join the conversation Text us on 0499 736 736 Live across Australia This is Giddy Up with Gareth Hall
Speaker 2Welcome back to Giddy Up Gareth Hall with you And Paulie Sebastiani We've got a winner for our competition Those two marquee tickets In the Aus Equipment Rentals And Ultima Hotel marquee there On Geelong Cup Day
Speaker 5We do indeed have a winner It is Troy and Paulie Troy in St Kilda who answered correctly with Craig and Christophe Lemaire and Troy. If you are a supporter of the Mighty St. Kilda Football Club, at least you've had a win this year. That's a bit harsh there, Paulie. No, it's true.
Speaker 2But I appreciate all of the entries into that competition. Plenty of them. Yeah, there was plenty. So do you know what? I just had a chat to Shane Bennett. He's going to give us two more next week. Is he really? Yeah, he's a good man. Fantastic. Very generous. Thank you to Shane. Generous man, yeah. So good on him. So well done to Troy. Well done, Troy. Yeah, Craig Williams and Christophe Lemaire. So Craig wrote him in the Geelong Cup and the Caulfield Cup. Correct. And Christophe in the Melbourne Cup. That's correct. Robbie Griffiths joins us because Ray McNeerio is back at the races tomorrow afternoon, and he's a big chance as well. Robbie, hello to you. Hi, Gareth. My mail is that you've never had him better. Would my mail be wrong?
Speaker 6Well, he just does what he does on the training track, so he doesn't really change a lot from campaign to campaign. But I certainly would say that he's every bit as good, as what he has been before, and I think his form line suggests that that should really put him in the picture. So he's really well. He trialled super last week at Caulfield, so everything's good.
Speaker 2So how's his feet and everything like that? Sorry? How's his feet and everything like that?
Speaker 6Yeah, really good, because he hasn't got any equi-casts on him. We tend to use those sometimes before he's first at run, but certainly as we deepen into the campaign, so that there's a bit more show on his hoof for the farrier, but he hasn't got any neck in. Just a little bit of filler on one of them, but yeah, no, he's good.
Speaker 2You've had some great drills with Jigsaw. Can you beat him?
Speaker 6Well, I reckon he's got the upper hand on us tomorrow over the 1,100. It's sort of a tricky distance. We got awfully close in the 12, of course, in the quokka. Yeah. But with Jigsaw's racing style and barrier one, and knowing how Caulfield plays, it's going to be awfully hard to run him down, and hence, I think, the market's got it pretty right. I hope the market's got it wrong. Naturally, we want to win, but I think he's certainly going to be hard to catch.
Speaker 2Do you go to Perth with him again this time around?
Speaker 6Yep, he'll go here into the championships, if we're happy enough with this run, into the winter bottom, into the gold rush, yeah.
Speaker 2Okay. He loves WA.
Speaker 6Yeah, yeah, it's a good place to love.
Speaker 2Can Enzuto win the weekend hustler?
Speaker 6Yeah, he can, he's going fantastic. I would prefer him at big tracks. I'm a bit concerned around Caulfield with his racing style, that he, you know, we've always tried to kick him to big tracks, hence, most of his races have been sort of Flemington, and as you can see in the form, you know, but I think that he's going well enough to be a winning chance, definitely. It's just a question of whether they don't sneak away from him too much, trying to get balanced around Caulfield versus the big tracks.
Speaker 2What about Almost an Angel? It's at $46.
Speaker 6Yeah, she's mixing the form. Her best runs in her career have been Caulfield Sprint when she won. I thought her fifth when she returned in the, when she was leading into the Blue Diamond, she ran fifth in the prelude, and I thought that was a fantastic run. So we tried. We tried to stretch her out a little bit, and that didn't work. She wasn't handling the wet in the Atlantic Jewel, so we've had a few mixed runs with what we think are excuses, so we've dropped it back to the $1,200, and Saturday's going to determine tomorrow whether she's at this level or whether we're going to drop it down in grade, you know?
Speaker 2Yeah. So, yeah, it's a good little race, that second race there, Caulfield there on Saturday. You've got some big chances across the weekend. Any winners at Seymour and Seymour Cup Day?
Speaker 6Um, barriers haven't been overly kind to us, but we've got a, oh, third, I think, you know, going quite well away is Troll. And Vision's going to need a bit of luck. He'll go back and probably give away too much of a head start from that draw. Yeah. Plucky enough, sort of going well enough to enter the trials to sort of be in the mix there. And I think today we've got some nice chances at Boa. I think that, you know, little Ruby Gill's probably good value at $12 because she might find the dancing a bit short, but she's been running well. And I think Skelmo, she's trialled up really well and sort of warrants her third place as favourite. And, yeah, and LeBraves has trialled up well. So, hopefully, we can have a bit of luck today with Skelmo probably being our best.
Speaker 2So, that's race four, number five there at Ballarat. If I gave you $100 this weekend, including today, what would you do with it?
Speaker 6Good question. I'd probably have, I would have $50 on Skelmo into Ray. Yep. And $50 on the Cronulla with Ray and Jigsaw to cover our backside.
Speaker 2Beautiful. Hey, mate, we wish you the best of luck. Great to have Ray back at the races tomorrow. And thanks for joining us on Giddy Up.
Speaker 6Good on you, Gareth.
Speaker 2Thank you. There we go. There is Robbie Griffiths. We're going to take a break. We'll come back with plenty more. The weekend preview not far away.
Speaker 1Live on Giddy Up.
Speaker 2Welcome back to Giddy Up. Now, Nick Schultz joins us. Schultzy from the Ascot Vale Hotel because it is, well, this time of the year once again where we've got the Giddy Up Cox Plate luncheon on Cox Plate Eve this time around on the Friday. And Schultzy's with us now.
Speaker 7G'day, mate. G'day, G-Man. How you going? Thanks for having us. We're back again.
Speaker 2We are back again. So, it was on the Thursday last year. We're doing the Friday this time around. James McDonald's been confirmed. I think Bjorn Baker will be coming. We've got a few other big names that will be joining us as well. So, looking forward to it, mate.
Speaker 7Yeah, thanks again. Well, 4.0 this year. So, yeah, very excited and fingers crossed. Oh, Trent Busseton, a friend of the pub and Blakey Sheen can get blinds raised. Yeah, hopefully as a winner of the Guineas this year. So, hopefully he can get to a Cox Plate.
Speaker 2So, yeah, we'll have a big build-up and we'll get a few of the major players ahead of that Cox Plate day for the luncheon. It was a lot of fun last year. So, how do we go about getting tickets?
Speaker 7Yep. So, the link's up on our Instagram page at the moment. So, if you head to the Ascot Vale Hotel handle, follow the link there. Or you can head to the website and the link will be up there shortly. So, yeah, doors will open at 11 or if you want to get there a bit earlier to watch you finish Gideon, G-Man, the doors will be open and away we go.
Speaker 2We'll have the SEN track team there as well, Tags, Mark Hunter. I'm trying to get David Gately there. So, we'll have a preview of Cox Plate Day. As I said, we'll have a host of the major players and it'll be a lot of fun. David King's going to be there, Jackie Jenkins. So, we'll have a ball, Schultzy. And I think Libba's, he's pouring beers, isn't he?
Speaker 7Yeah, we've got Libba. He's our new venue manager at now. So, yeah, he'll be there. Pour him pots. Beautiful, Schultzy. And King, he's got his master game, so he'll be in early.
Speaker 2Yeah, I've got King ready to go. I've got him a carring rising hat, so he should be happy. But appreciate the support, mate. I can't wait for this Cox Plate luncheon, the Giddy Up Cox Plate luncheon on Friday before the Cox Plate, mate. So, bring it on.
Speaker 7Bring it on. Thanks, G-Man. Thank you all. Looking forward to seeing you there.
Speaker 2Yeah, good on you. There's Schultzy there from the Ascot Vale Hotel. Let's get stuck into the weekend preview.
Speaker 1It's now time for the weekend preview with Mick Gannon, Dean Watling and Ben Caluzzi.
Speaker 8We'll play the music nice and early as well, Paulie Sebastiani while we're on fire. And it's time for the weekend preview.
Speaker 2That music suggests, well, it tells us that the Mega Boost is live and the weekend preview top four multi is live. You'll get the best price anywhere in the country for both those plays for the next 40 minutes or so. Let's welcome in the boss. The Bet365, Zachy Tunbridge.
Speaker 9Hello, Zach. Good morning, G. How are you?
Speaker 2We'll get to Zach in just a moment. Let's say g'day to Benny Caluzzi. Hello to you, Benny boy.
Speaker 10Hello, mate. How are you? What is the Mega Boost today? The Mega Boost is going to be Lindemann today. Race seven. Unbelievable. At Rose Hill, $2.75. Okay. He couldn't keep up the other day. Mate, did you see what he did first up? He got beaten nine and then he put two on chair. Second up, he's a horse who can bounce back to Rose Hill. I think he's $1.80. $1.85 with some other book. So $2.75 is an absolute steal. That is crisp.
Speaker 2And you know what? Chris Waller believes he'll bounce back. Yeah, so do I. So does Nash Ruella. So how do we go about getting that Mega Boost?
Speaker 10So you've got to go to race seven at Rose Hill. It's not on the homepage. Go in there and you'll find the Mega Boost. I reckon this might set a new record.
Speaker 2All right, then. Well, it's your choice, so you hope it will, actually, and you're pleased that it will. Yeah. Zachy Tunbridge joins us. G'day, Zach. Morning, G.
Speaker 9Morning, Benny. Good work pushing the Mega Boost. $2.75 steal. Brayden's confident.
Speaker 2What, he's confident we'll get beat, or.?
Speaker 9No, he's confident this will be a record.
Speaker 2Oh, is he? Yeah. Why does he give us $3, then?
Speaker 9I tried. Even he got knocked back for $3.
Speaker 2Brayden, I tell you, who'd buy? The big bosses, I guess. Yeah. He's $1.85 with the other majors.
Speaker 10He's even money with us, and $2.75 with the Boost.
Speaker 2Brayden, I thought he was the boss. Anyway. Thinks he is. We'll have to get you down for the luncheon, Zach. It's going to be some lunch.
Speaker 9Yeah, sounds good.
Speaker 2now sorry I had to Damn, frog in my throat. Let's welcome in the other members of the team. Mickey Gannon, hello to you.
Speaker 11Good morning to you, G, and lads.
Speaker 2Are you with Lindemann?
Speaker 11Lindemann on top, yeah, for sure. Obviously, there's natural queries, but Nash Rilla back aboard. He's ridden his horse 19 times, Nash. I think only J-Mac and I can't remember who the other jockey was. We were talking about it yesterday on the Sydney set. It might have been Joe Marrera, the only two other jockeys to win aboard.
Speaker 2So, Lindemann. And this man, he's become a cult hero. Everybody loves him. He's been dominating for Betsy.com.au. I speak of Dean Watling. He's a man that does all of the big interviews with the jocks on the Friday before these big dances. Hello to you, Zach. I mean, I should say Dean Watling.
Speaker 12Oh, that was good.
Speaker 13Oh, jeez. You've hit a brick wall at the 200 metres. There, G. No, thank you for the kind words. Shout out to Zach if he's watching. I'm not sure which Zach
Speaker 2you're talking about, but no. I was just trying to be funny, and obviously it worked. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 13Too good, G-Man.
Speaker 2I've got to get you a hat. Now, Mark Hunter doesn't believe these should be worth $35, these giddy-up hats, but they're on sale now, Pauly Sebastiani. And how do we get them again?
Speaker 5You go to merch.scn.com.au.
Speaker 2I tell you that the sales will go through the roof if you're wearing one of them, Dino.
Speaker 13Yes, G, you've got to flick one down. I like the one, Fascinating G. That's what I want on my hat. I've got the F on the hat this morning, so hopefully it's fitting for today's show.
Speaker 2Yes, it is, actually. The Weekend Preview Top Four Multi, Zach. What price are we getting here?
Speaker 9Yep, live now, and there's already 700 customers have taken it. Now, real price, $5.40. You're getting $8.66, it looks like, at the moment. There's a couple here. I'll mention some, and then I might get Mick Gunnan to mention his one. Zakuma is race four at Caulfield. Stormy Marco at Roverside. Ray Magnerio at Caulfield. And, Gano, which one did you go again?
Speaker 11Sorry, Dean. I can't remember.
Speaker 9Can anyone pronounce this horse? I tried to listen to Darren. Kukakashli. Kukakashli. Yep.
Speaker 13Kukakashli, is it pronounced that way? I was going to say, there's a couple more syllables there, surely.
Speaker 2No, it's Kukakashli.
Speaker 13It's not the Marky Mark. It's the Marky Mark of the racing industry.
Speaker 2There you go. What is it? It's a. It's a Swedish cabinet or something, isn't it?
Speaker 11German kitchen cupboard.
Speaker 2Okay. There you go.
Speaker 11That's where I'll be hiding if it doesn't win.
Speaker 2Which one did you go, Benny?
Speaker 10I went Ray Magnerio. Race six at Caulfield.
Speaker 2Yeah. He should finish top four. I would have thought so, yeah. Yeah. Very consistent operator. Yeah. I was weighing up between two horses. I was going to go Sakuma or Abounding, and I went Sakuma in the end. Surely, Pikey gets that Galloper into the top four. And I did get it confirmed. A few people were telling me, Gareth, if Sakuma wins, he doesn't get a penalty for the Melbourne Cup. Well, there is an opportunity for the handicapper to give him a penalty for the Caulfield, I mean, for the Melbourne Cup. If he wins the Herbert Power, you don't get a penalty for the Caulfield Cup, but you can get a penalty for the Melbourne Cup. Hopefully, he just runs second, third, or fourth. And Dino, which way did you go?
Speaker 13Stormy Marco, G in the gloaming. I thought this was a ridiculous price. A golden rose form. I stayed at 1,400 metres second up. I think now at 18, a big, big tix from that horse, G.
Speaker 2All right. Then let's get stuck into this preview. We'll kick off with this meeting in Sydney at Rose Hill. First of all, I'll go to you, Mickey Gannon. How do you think this track will play?
Speaker 11Yeah, rails out two metres. We're on a good four. Pretty warm day. So, some irrigation to come. I'd say 11, 1,200 metre start points, Gareth. Significant advantage to be rails and run top six in transit. Otherwise, fair across other start points.
Speaker 2First league of the quaddie is the hill. Stakes over the 1,900 metres. Take it away, Zach Tunbridge, with the Bet365 market.
Speaker 9Thank you, G. Just having a look at that multi, too. So, 866. I had a look around. You're getting less than four bucks elsewhere. So, very good price. Lindemann is $2 now. I can tell you that we actually had some pretty big bets come across for Militarise. It's pretty short now into 460. I know you can probably get elsewhere, but we've taken a fair chunk on Militarise. But they're the only two. It's chips in Lindemann with a little bit for Militarise.
Speaker 2Just for those punters, Bet365 are going pretty well. They don't need donations. Like that, really, with Militarise.
Speaker 9We'll see. Yeah.
Speaker 2You can't win, surely. Anyway, go through the market, please.
Speaker 9Well, Lindemann, two bucks, which has been very popular. 275 for the next half up. Militarise at 460. Then you've got Elias at 859s for attrition and doubles for the rest of them.
Speaker 2All right, then. Who wants to start? We'll go with you here, Dino.
Speaker 13Yep, we'll kick off, G. Not a whole lot of tempo to touch on. You've got Lindemann up front. Elias back to 9-hour-meter showed speed. And two back and go. I think they're the natural leaders outside of that. It looks like a dead set walk and a sprint home. That suits Lindemann down to the ground. Reference both of his Caulfield runs. It just doesn't go that way of going. Back to Sydney, back to his happy place, and back to his home deck, where he's got a phenomenal record, G. And I know it can be tricky, boys, to back horses off sort of bad runs. But he's a horse who's shown in his profile in the history that he is one who can bounce back off a plain run. We're going to get to a good fall on the Saturday. Again, I know there's a lot of ticks for Lindemann. And if he didn't have Lindemann, last start, I think he's $1.40 in this race.
Speaker 11Yeah, spot on, Dino. Would be $1.40 for sure. I think attrition's the natural danger. I think if anything does bring Lindemann down, it will be attrition who's just building. Has some good figures. Rose Hill, 1,900 meters as well to his name. So if you're looking for a place better, a horse to run sort of Quenella's exact as attrition is it. But Lindemann should be winning all things being equal here, Benny.
Speaker 10Yeah, I agree. I think he's going to start a lot shorter than this even money. I think he's probably more $1.70 chance. Just wipe that last run. Take the $2.75 and take the $2 as well. We've got militarized $4.60. There's no way he can start anywhere near that. So Lindemann, the only pressure in front is Elias. They can control the tempo. And I agree with Gano. Attrition might be the one for your exotics.
Speaker 2All right, then attrition's at $9. He's a great each way player, I reckon, attrition at $9. He was good the other day against. Just back in the place. Yeah. So keen on Lindemann. We're getting. What, $2.75 for the next 20 minutes, Zach?
Speaker 9Is that right? Yeah, at least. 20, 25 minutes.
Speaker 2Yep. 30 minutes, Braden. 30 minutes. You're a good bloke. Race number eight is the time on it. Alan Brown staked worth $1.5 million at group three level. And scratch the six, Lady Shenandoah, who's gone towards the million-dollar Turak handicap at group one level. Seven, War Machine, and 10, Warnie is also out. Warnie goes around in the Turak. What's the market doing here, Zach Dumbridge?
Speaker 9A lot more open here. With Seppels at $5, $5.50 with a boost. Hedley Grange is around that same price. Gringotts at sixes and $6.50 linebacker. The two that they've backed the most so far is Seppels and linebacker.
Speaker 11Mickey Gannon? Yeah, great race. Really looking forward to this one over the 1,400 metres. Sandpaper from out wide will come across. Imagine trying to lead them up. And then there's question marks over some other runners. Magna T, you'd think, would be positive. Private Eye won't be too far away. And Seppels, linebacker with options to be probably ridden more forward and be right in the race. It sets up perfectly for a horse like Altoff as well, who can also settle closer in the run here. We saw him settle closer in the run earlier in the preparation. And you're getting the right price to find out. So there's four horses I've really sort of narrowed in on. Hedley Grange, Seppels. The marker's got them spot on, though. They're not really getting any edge there. Magna's here. They're definitely a good each-way player. But Altoff's going to be the bet that I do have in the race. Gareth, expect him to jump out of the ground here, getting around that $18 mark. And more than happy, Dino, to be with Altoff.
Speaker 13Yep, I like your thinking, Gano. The speed's going to be on. Sandpaper, you mentioned. I think Robusto, general salute. And I think formal display. He's got to press the button early to roll across. That sort of set up for horses in behind that speed. That's Seppels, that's linebacker, and that's Hedley Grange. They're the three I'm working around. Seppels is a funny horse. He's yet to put two big runs together. He screams he could be better than his lot. He's just got to put it all together. I think you're going to have in his price on Saturday to back him on trust. Comes through a shot. Strong Sir Rupert Clarke stakes. Gets a grouse run. I'm going to trust him. I think the danger is Hedley Grange and linebacker both are going very well, Benny.
Speaker 10Yeah, the market's found the right horses, I think. But Seppels is on top for me. He made Angel Capital find his best there and the Rupert Clarke to beat him. That was only first up. And I think he's a horse who probably stretches him at a mile. So this Alan Brown stakes at 1,400 metres is perfect. So I'm with Seppels. Not a whole lot of confidence, but happy that way.
Speaker 2Race number nine is over the 1,200 metres. Mares do battle here. Scratch the three, four, 15 and 17. There's a couple of interesting runners here, Zach.
Speaker 9Yep. She's an artist. She's at the top of the market there. Garen Jong is at sixes. One of the best backed in the race. They have had a little chip away at one at odds and that's wee, wee, wee for Jason Addart at around that $19.21 mark.
Speaker 2Your horse, Dino. Wee, wee, wee. That is G.
Speaker 13Yes. Bonjour. Mercy McCool.
Speaker 2Kabah, bake, bake, Sajah. I beg your pardon? Yeah, yeah. The Duke. Super Smig's also one of your horses. So which way are you going?
Speaker 13I'm going to lean the way of wee, wee, wee, G. I think if this horse was trained by a city cam, it'd be half its price. Now you can throw a blanket over these horses on ratings. They've all sort of around the same levels, just whether or not they get the right runs in transit and what price you want to take. And wee, wee, wee has been disrespected. 71s, they put up all in G. Now into 26s. I'd be happy to take that too. reference off the top what's going to be key over this 1200 meter start and it's going to be rousing running on the speed um should land three pairs back the inside tom sherry sticks from the trials and i just think this is a terrific bet the other one super smink new stable john thompson intriguing setup love the recent trial probably going to get back a little bit further um but that horse can run into the placings too so we we we best ruffy of the day gonna yeah completely agree
Speaker 11with you there dino best ruff for the day and well found early in the week for me 71 bucks there for the orlean panthers i'm leaning the way of she's an artist i'm happy to be against her but she's building to a really good run and she gets a beautiful profile here imagine a race that's pretty much devoid of speed that's gata nepo baby they'll roll across and i think she's an artist can be right there so can sylph and no knock vvv as well but she's an artist the one on top for me with the fact that she's probably the one that's the fittest on the spot here so 105 days i'm a little bit surprised jaring gong's getting out to such a price
Speaker 10five dollars fifty and six dollars with the bet boost she's back from a little uh spell love the recent trial and i think she's just just about got some of the best form in this race so 54 kilos drawn awkwardly in 13 but i think can roll forward and get a nice enough
Speaker 2map race number 10 over the 1100 meters benchmark 78 scratched the three and i think she's going to get the job done i'm a little bit nervous about that i think she's going to get the job done i think she's going to get the job done i think she's going to get the job done i think she's going to get the job done i think she's going to get the job done i think she's going to get the job done i think she's going to get the job done the four and his rose sylph and 16 half pipe come out um what's the market doing here in a tough little race to conclude this program here zach
Speaker 9yeah very quiet race fierce is the favorite at 260 mercy me at 460 and they've had a little bit on ellipsis for bjorn
Speaker 2we'll start with you benny caluzzi in the last race there at rose hill on saturday well the
Speaker 10bottom line is g when you draw barrier five on a wednesday you're a very good chance and that's what fierce has done i think i think it can justify this quote last two ratings have been very good late splits last time were awesome and if it can just sit a little bit more forward from a nice draw i think it's your most
Speaker 13likely winner
Speaker 2all right then um dino yeah it's
Speaker 13interesting fierce i think you look at ratings benny and you go yep this is its race to win but then your reference it's coming out of midweeks yes their figures are good but this is a step to saturday grade and you're asked to take two dollars fifty i just don't think there's any juice at all in that price yes can win the race but can win without me i thought ellipsis's trial was really good g touched on this yesterday on trial time down the outside of hawksbury in a really really hot heat gate nine scares me um but this horse has good tactical speeding i put my faith into tommy berry and i think ellipsis is a terrific price it has to start sub five dollars kind of yeah it's
Speaker 11interesting isn't it so like fierce probably was a bit earlier in the week now rock bottom ellipsis also you know has that ran week kenzo work farm sort of form last preparation and mercy me was really disappointing last time i thought that she had every right to win that race so um race the bottom no real push this top rated
Speaker 2runner that's a look at the quaddie legs at rose hill there tomorrow afternoon we'll take a break and on the other side of it we'll have a look at race for the gloaming stakes race number five the tap craig over the 1400 meters and we'll also take a look at the group two for the three-year-olds the roman consul stakes over the six furlocks join the conversation text
Speaker 1us on 0 4 9 7 3 6 7 3 6 live across australia this is giddy up with
Speaker 2gareth hall glad to have your company on this friday morning this is the weekend preview we're going through some of the feature races outside the quaddie now at rose hill we'll start off with the gloaming stakes race four here and this is an intriguing race at tumbridge it's
Speaker 9the top of the market there at 420 you can get a boost to 475 genesis runner at fives call me a 550 stormy marco 550 and wonka 750 very very open race a little bit of money for stormy marco and also proxima dia does
Speaker 2it surprise you mickey gatton that this david payne unbeaten philly will get together in just a moment he's just dropped out but dino um he surprises philly's the favorite here
Speaker 13midway form yes unbeaten but i it just doesn't have much to say about it the runs on the board as you touch on in the class of say these three-year-old top ranks we know david payne can do sort of different things to the the traditional trainer um zach lloyd may be choosing this horse horse as well gee that's potentially a push but i thought it was rock bottom odds and brings that different form line as does wonka and a couple of others gee they sort of come from that left field form where my push for stormy marco is he comes through the best form line he gave away weight first up he comes through a golden rose you reference he starts the out standing and jj atkins behind tron bolt what price is tron bolt here a clear favorite so i just think the market's completely missed him um and i know you can look at that last start run and just go oh that was a bit plain but second up staying 1400 meters in a high pressure golden rose a lot of them looked plain out the back gee so stormy marco on top yeah and i am um sort of scratching my head while that horse is so short in the market betty kaluzzi yeah
Speaker 10i agree i couldn't have uh proxy at my dr the favorite i think the two best horses in the race at cormier and stormy marco i'm happy to back them both i think both of them would just run off their legs last time in that golden rose both can progress to the 1800 meters uh one's going to be in front of the other cormier gets the nice map from barrier one and stormy marco will be storming home down the outside so happy to be on both at 550. mickey gannon yeah i
Speaker 11think stormy marco is an easy bit to have gareth uh third up wildlife set the peak and i think coming through the golden rose is clearly the form uh reference you want to be with so stormy marker there cormier for sure gets the opportunity you would like them to be more positive i think if you end up sort of three pairs back the fence you could be a bit of strife so it'd be interesting to see where it ends up in
Speaker 2the run all right then we'll take a break we'll come back and we'll continue on our preview of rose hill next year for the weekend preview
Speaker 1join the conversation text us on 0 4 9 7 3 6 7 3 6 live across australia this is giddy up with gareth
Speaker 2hall welcome back to giddy up gareth hall with you betty kaluzzi mickey gannon and betsy.com.au dean watling are with you here on this friday morning um we're about to preview now race number five on the program this is the tap craig at rose hill and uh we've got the favorite here kukuka clasti at three dollars 40 revenge it's at 460 and plagiarism at six dollars who's been the best backed in this race
Speaker 9is zach absolutely the favorite um they've been they've had a really good go since wednesday they've had a really good go since wednesday they've had a really good go since wednesday so at 340 now if you're logged in you'll be able to see 360 with a boost revengeance at 460 but um yeah they really like
Speaker 13the favorite dino yeah kukuk cashly g interested with the hawks when they do win first up off one trial more often than not they do improve sharply second up more often than not they do get beaten first up and then they jump out of the ground second up as a essentially the first up runs a trial so i'm worried about it but you're asked to take two dollars three dollars 20 around that price i just think that's too short revengeance comes through really uh the run to the rose sorry it was really good late gap between runs 400 meters i think that suits i'm gonna lean the way of the class horse over the hype horse as such gonna yeah completely
Speaker 11agree with you there dino um inside massive positive draw here soft running transit only improves just wanted to say this we can do this all together cookie cash lee not kookaburra cookie ashley nice and slow okay that was the weirdest thing that's ever been i'm really getting up
Speaker 2there but i know where you're coming from mickey and i appreciate it are you tipping i appreciate that so who are you tipping again mick i'm glad you listened
Speaker 11gareth thank you no but who are you tipping again
Speaker 2mick i'm glad you are who are you tipping oh
Speaker 11revengeance oh there
Speaker 2you go i'm tipping revengeance as well no he's tipping the 11 i just wanted to hear him say it again
Speaker 10yeah i'm with dino then i'm tipping uh revengeance i think it's ready for the 1400 meters now it's not a race i had a whole lot of interest in but uh it looks the one that's uh that's peaking for this and wayne hawks sees he's bullish about
Speaker 2his favorite too like he tipped it on monday usually he's um you know he doesn't get too excited about his horses but he ran a lot of races and he's going to win this race so i'm this is a bet come saturday and this was before the barriers as well so i love the way mickey gaddon's thinking there hey zach i'm so i'm so excited and so is my mom the six horse challenge
Speaker 9is back yes been getting absolutely hounded about this for the last few months they've brought it back so look if anyone doesn't know about this uh we've been doing it hasn't been there since autumn i'd say but uh it's free to play and if you are an account holder you need to just go to the racing page it says there it says win up to 100 grand so there's a hundred thousand pool if you tip six from six it's races seven eight nine you put your selections in best to do that after scratchings on a saturday but it went off plenty of times last year um there was quite a few and then you obviously get some cash back for getting four from six or five from six it's good yeah i
Speaker 2love it i think it's a great way to play and spend your saturday afternoon there for the six horse challenge we'll take a break and we'll come back with plenty more next

Speaker 2This is the weekend preview. We're here for Macca's. Don't Macca's walk. Macca's run to the new Nashville Chicken Range. And we've got a couple of double passes up for grabs today for the Melbourne Cup Carnival, October 31st to November 7th. Tickets are just $50 at the vrc.com.au. What a carnival that promises to be. So we're giving away a double pass. Paulie Sebastiani or Dean Whatley or Mickey Gannon. And I think, Paulie, you've been in good form. You can pick out the best text message today from one of our listeners with the best question to the weekend preview team. And they can have a double pass for that Melbourne Cup Carnival, which is a terrific prize. Let's continue on our preview. And before that, Benny Caluzzi, how is your Mega Boost horse going, Lindemann?
Speaker 10I'll be honest. I thought it was going to be going better. You're a bit deflated, aren't you? I'm a bit deflated. I thought we'd be shooting past 2,000.
Speaker 14He's flat as a shite on our Carter's hat.
Speaker 10That's exactly right, Paulie. $2.75. It's going to be up for another, hopefully, five minutes at least. This horse is $1.85 with two of the other Magic Corps. You just have to log on, take this price. Also, take the top four multi and the racing previews multi, Bridal Waltz, into Lindemann on the homepage. Are you disappointed in Benny Caluzzi then, Zachy Tunbridge?
Speaker 9No, no. I'm with him too. So I'm a bit surprised. But yeah, I think $2.75 is a great price. So I've told Brayden, five minutes, please. But yeah, I mean, $2.75, like you said, $1.80 elsewhere. And then top four multi, you're getting $3.80 elsewhere too, and you're getting $8 plus here.
Speaker 2Yeah. Wayne. Hawks is so proud of you, Mickey Gatton. He's texting in and he says you need to give Tag some lessons about how you pronounce that horse that he has. How many syllables? It's a stupid name. He's loyal, Uncle Wayne. Yeah, it's a stupid name, really. But we wish it the best of luck. Now, the other question I posed to you, how is that weekend preview top four multi going, Zach?
Speaker 9Yeah, similar. So we're at 1,600 slips at the moment. It's pretty good. I mean, this is good. Zakuma, Stormy Marco, number 11, Rose Hill, race five, and Ray Magneri.
Speaker 2And we're getting $8.66, which is more than double than its competitors really at Bet365. So love that. Hey, the best bet anywhere in the country is coming up in race number six at Rose Hill. And the punters agree with me, I think. Paradoxium, Zachy Tunbridge.
Speaker 9Yes, they have backed Paradoxium pretty firmly. It's not like they haven't backed Saturno Glow. They're back to others at odds as well, and that's Steel Will and Why So Hard at $11.19 apiece, but Paradoxium. They're by far the most popular.
Speaker 2You've got to love B Baker's content, don't you, Zachy? And you just had to watch him there on that Tuesday morning or Wednesday when it came out, and the smile on his face after Paradoxium galloped. He probably needs to step up a little bit to go with Saturno Glow, Dino, but it looks like he's going to get a beautiful run for your man,
Speaker 13Jay Collett. Yes, Jay, you don't miss anything. This is going to be my whole podcast. Point of my argument. When Bjorn speaks on a Tuesday, Jay, and the way these horses do their final piece of work more often than not, if he's happy with them or he's excited, Jay, they run an absolute bottler on the Saturday. So he did that this week. Paradoxium was great first up. That was first time down the straight. Back to a shoot start, 1,200 metres at Rose Hill. It's a lovely set up. There's an abundance of speed, but he's tactically versatile. He doesn't have to lead. He can sort of sit outside the leader, 1-1, or back the fence. It doesn't matter. What matters is he's going to be three to four lengths. He's in front of Santono, Glow, G, around a shoot start, 1,200 metres, dry deck, rail out. I think that's the big thing to note, Gano. So Paradoxium on top.
Speaker 11Just adding happy Bjorn to the form guide. Paradoxium maps an absolute treat. There's not a whole lot between the two. So, you know, one's going to be at the back riding ridden for luck. Imagine Zach Lloyd probably goes back to the rails and rides for luck because I can't imagine the three-wide last is going to be a great place to be. So up the inside. Speaking of rounds late, I'd imagine for Santono, Glow, she will struggle to catch Paradoxium. As Dino suggested, it'll be a few lengths in front. He's an easy bet to have, Benny.
Speaker 10Yeah, it looks a two-horse race. Interesting thing with these two is they both ran on the same day down the straight last time, G. And Santono, Glow did run faster time, better rating. However, the great leveler could be Rose Hill back around to bend. And that's what steers me in the corner of Paradoxium with the map advantage.
Speaker 2But imagine if Johnny O'Shea did that video on Tuesday morning and Santono, Glow worked like Paradoxium.
Speaker 10Glow went up $4.20 with us. Like, if you got that price, you'd be pretty happy with yourself. Yeah. Yeah. Best in Sydney. We'll start off with you, Benny. Lindemann, the best of the entire weekend. Even money, $2.75 with the bet boost. And let's go with Paradoxium race number six as well.
Speaker 11Mickey Gannon. Race three, number nine, Baron Gary. I think he can get the job done, getting a decent price there. Race five. Yeah, it's pretty good, isn't it? Into one that you don't like. Race five, number 11, Cooker Cashley. I like it. I'm with you.
Speaker 2I'm with you, Mickey.
Speaker 11Oh, beautiful. Race six, number one. I know the name. Sorry, I referenced it on the bet. It's a good bet as well. Race six, number one, Paradoxium. I think all three of those horses will get the job done there on Saturday.
Speaker 13Dino? Yep. Four for me, boys. Race four, number two, Stormy Marco. Race seven, number one, Lindemann. And then we look to round out the day. Race nine, number 16, Wee, Wee, Wee. And race 10, number 13, Ellipsis.
Speaker 2G-Man? And who are you brought to? It's by Dino.
Speaker 13Betsy.com.au. Don't forget the.au, G-Man.
Speaker 10And Santa Claus.
Speaker 2Yes, and Santa Claus, but very good. And you can get all of your tips at Betsy.com.au. Now, let's have a look at this Caulfield meeting. The great Caulfield Guineas meeting. Always look forward to this card. And it's going to be interesting, Benny Caluzzi, how this track will play a bit. I reckon it'll play like we usually see Caulfield. Tell us how it's going to play. I reckon it'll be a track where you want to be in the first, say, four or five. Yep. But if the tempo. If it goes on and you can get a card into the race and you're close enough as they swing for home, you can get that nice card into the race. Then you can finish off if they overdo it. But I think it'll be okay, Caulfield. Yep, sounds good. And the weather's beautiful as well.
Speaker 10Not many people are allowed on that track. You, Matt Welsh? No, Mark Hunter. Mark Hunter. Yeah. You've got to get accreditation.
Speaker 2It's a select few. Yeah. Let's be honest. Does it really matter?
Speaker 10Like. Well, back to the true for the first time in a while is going to be interesting. Hopefully, it's a nice, fair track. And fair Caulfield with a really slight southerly usually means a forward of midfield advantage.
Speaker 2All right, then. Let's have a look at the quaddie leagues at Caulfield on a Saturday afternoon to kick off their carnival. The 150th running, too, of this year's Caulfield Cup. So it's going to be one of the best ever Caulfield Cup carnivals. And we kick off with the first league of the quaddie in the Might and Power Stakes. I can't believe we didn't make this horse, our mega boost horse, Sactum Bridge, the favourite here in the Might and Power, the Mighty She's Alibi.
Speaker 9Yeah. So the She's Alibi is $1.35. There's not much I can give you here. Birdman, you can get $4.25 with the boost. They're not really backing anything else.
Speaker 10Benny? I think they should be a little bit closer together in the market, She's Alibi and Birdman. Is the edge on Birdman enough to be tipping him on top? No. I still think She's Alibi. This is going to be a slowly run race, and I think she's just the superior horse. But they both have big turns of speed. I think She's will be able to get him, but I could understand why the $10 punter would want their $10 on Birdman.
Speaker 11Mickey Gannon? Well said, Benny. Yeah, I think Treasured Moment leads, Kingswood there. Kingswood will lead.
Speaker 2Kingswood will lead, 100%. Well, there you go. I'll just give you the speed map there. Kingswood will lead. Appreciate that. Yeah, no problem.
Speaker 11That's great. Where do you have Land Legend, Gareth?
Speaker 2Land Legend will be trying just to not overdo it, but he'll probably be leaders back or three back with fans.
Speaker 11Where do you have Birdman?
Speaker 2Birdman will be one out, one back on the back of She's Alibi.
Speaker 11So where's Treasured Moment? We're in strife now.
Speaker 2Well, Treasured Moment, in fact, Treasured Moment will be on the back of She's Alibi. Birdman behind Treasured Moment.
Speaker 11Okay. All right. Well, I've got Treasured Moment leading, Kingswood outside leader. Switch those around, too, if you like. Land Legend leaders back, and Birdman 1-1. I think She's Alibi is going to have to go back to last. She rates on top, but she's not a betting prospect at this, at the current price. I think Birdman, there is a slight edge there, and I agree with Benny. They should be closer in the market. So I'm happy to have a very, very small play, Birdman, considering I think he's just a bit more value than She's Alibi.
Speaker 13Dino? Dino. Yeah, there's a lot to play at, and it's not just the race. We forecast towards a Cox play. Like, Birdman's sort of third elect there. I think he should be favorite for that race. She's Alibi going to, obviously, the Golden Eagle. But if she turns up and towels him up in this, do they? Change plans and go to a Cox play. So there's a lot more to play out there than just the race itself. Betting-wise, I prefer to take $1.30, Birdman to place in the top two over She's Alibi to win. I think that's where I lean. I think they should be closer together, like Benny mentioned. But fascinating race, G. I think there's a lot more to play out there than just the race itself.
Speaker 10The only other thing I'll say is, if you are wanting to bet exotics into this race, do it same race multi-option, not the tote exotic option. You can get $1.60 for both of these to run top two. I guarantee the tote quenelle will pay no in.
Speaker 2You're $1.60. All right, then. That is very good advice from you, Benny. I don't know if Dino and your friends up in there in Sydney just refuse, really, to listen to Peter Moody and Kath Coleman, but there's no chance she's going to the Cox play, Dino. She's going to the Golden Eagle. So that won't be.
Speaker 13Yeah, I know, G. I know. I'm just trying to tell me, it's like Wayne
Speaker 2Hawks telling me that Eliana is still going to the Caulfield Cup.
Speaker 13Well, gee, if she, like. You've got to go 2,000 back to 1,500 metres, which isn't easy to do at all, but obviously Peter Moody and Kev Cole are terrific trainers. But say she comes out and blitzes her career peak and puts 10 lengths on them, I think it'd be very hard to go back to 1,500 metres off that. I think it's a very winnable Cox Plate this year. So it's prestige, I guess, over money, you could suggest, but I wouldn't mind winning either, would you, G?
Speaker 2Well, Peter Moody said that this is the perfect lead-up in a way for him to get to a Golden Eagle because he won't have to work her after Saturday's race. Plus, it's going to be a slowly run race, he's expecting. So it won't be a gut-busting.
Speaker 11It'd be interesting, isn't it, guys? Because we haven't spoken about it. She's an ally going 2,000 metres first time. At what point, you know, if she is last, at what point does Benny Mellon try and push the button and get her out of her comfort zone? I'm not sure if it's as black and white as it seems.
Speaker 2It's going to be an intriguing, like, tactical battle.
Speaker 13I think we'll learn a lot.
Speaker 2Yeah. But, like Moody said, like, it'll be a lot tougher for him to go to Sydney in a fast-run King Charles with pride of Jenny in the race and then get her to freshen up to the 1,500. 100%. Yeah. So that's his philosophy.
Speaker 13A question for you, Benny. Who do you have in front of Cox Plate looking towards then? Birdman or Serdilius? I thought the all-in market was fascinating for that. I know we've gone off script, G-Man, but I just wanted to ask Benny.
Speaker 10Can I tell you at 4pm on Saturday? It's an interesting one. I think Serdilius is going to improve. I think he's going to improve a lot. But if Birdman gets within a length of Shea's alibi here, he should be Cox Plate favourite. Yeah. Eliana, I
Speaker 2think that they can't think Eliana's a better chance than Birdman. Eliana.
Speaker 10I think he's got a better turn of foot than her. If it turns into a bit of a test, maybe Eliana's the one, yeah. Have you written off Serdilius, Benny? Nah, no way. No. No way. Remember how far Vier Sestani got beat second up on a wet track fast tempo? Yeah. In the Maccabi Devastates two years ago, she won a Cox Plate by eight later that prep.
Speaker 2She was slipping. I don't know.
Speaker 13It's going to get Serdilius to dump the jockey.
Speaker 2He probably needs that just to wake him up a little bit. Cosmic Crusaders, were you surprised he went to a Caulfield Cup there, Ben?
Speaker 10No, not really. Like he's got 56 kilos. He's probably like, I can understand it. He's going to be favourite. Do you want to be backing him now, Mick?
Speaker 11Hey, Cosmic Crusader on a Caulfield Cup, what price?
Speaker 2He's rock bottom now at 450. Yeah. I think he'll start shorter.
Speaker 11I don't think it's that. Yeah, that's probably, probably start shorter than that. Okay. What price do you think he'll start? Three, with a three. I think he'll start. I don't know if he draws a decent gate. Sorry, Dana. Yep.
Speaker 13No, no, I agree. I was going to say, I think he'd start three. Like he's, his performance last start screamed 2,400 metres. He's just got to draw a gate. Just got to, yeah. I just think it's such a good decision. Out of all the three big races, this is the easiest, the Caulfield Cup. And you look at half yours gets him poor at the weights. I think Zahran's not going as good. Maybe an international in one dark sea, but I think it's Cosmic Crusader's to lose. And they've figured out that he's a dead set 2,000 metre plus horse.
Speaker 2Let's have a look at the group one, the Caulfield Guineas Race 8s and the Sydney Galloper War Wovens. The solid favourite here is Zach Tunbridge with bet 365.
Speaker 9Yep. And popular. It's around 220 now. And I can tell you the plan is tomorrow, when it was $2, we were going to mega boost it tomorrow to 350. So if you like it, you're probably going to get 350 tomorrow. If it drifts even more, you might get more, depending on how confident Braden is, if he wants to take it on. Blind Rays has been popular as well, coming out of that gate two at 360 and Trombolt. So they're pretty much only back to the top three.
Speaker 11Mick Gannon? Blind Rays, you imagine Leeds, War Woven comes across. And it is quite a dangerous set up here, the two top rated horses going forward and probably being able to dictate. Question mark over who wants to sort of put themselves into the race. And there'll be plenty of putting their hand up. It has to be James McDonald. He lives in the 1-1. So he would be the one that's coming across with War Woven. Make a lot of sense to tag it across. Unit five, you'd imagine, wants to hold a forward position there from barrier one. So there's your one to four. Diameter strikes me, Gareth, as probably the only other key speed influence in the race. Are the horses that could potentially roll more forward? Have you heard anything from the stable there as to any potential speed? I think you're right there.
Speaker 2I think he might go forward if he's the horse that does go forward from the wall of camp. Usually, they like to ride their horses from a wide gate quietly. But yeah, it does look too good to be true, really, this speed map with War Woven and Blind Rays just dominating from the front end. I wonder if someone is thinking outside of the square here.
Speaker 11Yeah, I mean, if it is, I think it might be John McNeil. And I think it might be a Waller runner with four horses in the race. Like they want to win the race and they've got to give themselves the best opportunity to do so. And if they all sit there and watch it unfold in front of them, they won't be winning. So I'd expect Diamond to be positive for Smart Stable. They'll work it out. Trumbolt, the only chance Trumbolt has of winning is a very, very fast tempo from out there. So I expect Blind Rays, War Woven to dictate. War Woven's clearly got the figures on the board. Has to regress, has synthetic hoof filler first time. Not sure what to make of that. Just leave that as an asterisk there. Not sure. Blind Rays, no ceiling, can definitely improve. And Central Europe gets here to peak at the mile, but needs to improve. Needs to be a quantum leap. Gets J-Mac, can. From betting prospects, I think probably in the way of Blind Rays. Horses probably slightly over the odds. No ceiling and I think can win the race. But interested in your thoughts here, Benny.
Speaker 10Yeah, I'll be having three in my quaddi. My hands are tight a little bit, so I'll be complete full disclosure. I've had a futures bet on Trumbolt at $9. It's probably not that great a value now, but I do think he can close that gap on War Woven a lot. Hopefully Craig Williams just has a look when they come out the barriers from 11. He's really looking for a mile. So I've had something on him. I'm going to have a saver on War Woven as well. He just could be too good for this field. Blind Rays beats me too good. All three go on the quaddi. I think the one at odds that can run well is the one with the no exposed form in Cornwee
Speaker 13coach.
Speaker 2Dino? Yeah, I
Speaker 13think the bird's flown if you're chiming into War Woven. Like you asked to take $2.25 after two big peaks. Now first go Caulfield. I just think the price and the juice and everything's gone there. Can't take that price. Blind Rays is probably bang on with its price. Gives a feel of a Golden Rose, these boys. There's no real speed on paper, but I dare say a lot of stables are thinking, let's roll forward. Let's push the button. That could turn into a fast run Caulfield Guineas. That suits Tron Bolt down to the ground sectionally. He was really, really good in a race. He probably could win the Golden Rose. He's a good horse. He's yet to show up this preparation, but I think this is his race and Central Europe. You got to have a spec on him too. I'm going to back both of those horses in this race, G.
Speaker 2Could you back any of these horses at the top of the market to win a Cox Plate there, Dino?
Speaker 13Tron Bolt, probably G for sure. I think Chris Wellers doesn't like to send three-year-olds to the Cox Plate, but it's a different setup this year. I dare say Flemington might entice him a little bit. Tron Bolt does anything on the weekend, I think you go there and War Woven, I think if he turns out to blow these away, that horse will go to a Cox Plate, you should suggest
Speaker 2as well. I think Tron Bolt, if he runs well, he will go to a Cox Plate. In the Turac Race 9, it's $5.50 the field here, Zach Tunbridge.
Speaker 9Yep. Tell you the ones that are back. Good go at Regal Award, we're now $5.50. They have had a go at Evaporate, which is now at $8, and Sauvage Tens, and also Salty Pearl at around $12.
Speaker 10Benny Caluzzi. Two main bets for me here. Number one, Evaporate, $8. I think he's just the complete map horse from Barrier 2. You forgive last start, pulled up lame, so clear forgive there. He can bounce back, and 58 kilos for a horse of this sort of class, I don't think is too detrimental. Sauvage, he looks like he's going like a 2,000-meter horse this preparation, but he plummets down to the 54, gets the blinkers on first time. I think he can be a significant improver if Ethan Brown can have him a touch closer, and obviously he wasn't beaten far in an all-star mole going back to the start of this year. Two that go on my quad, he's Sun God, $21, and Von Hawk, $26. I think they are the two value runners.
Speaker 2Mickey Gannon. Yes.
Speaker 11Chair Benny Saluzzi, Evaporate, Regal Award being another one that sort of puts itself on the race. I liked his body of work so far, and I like what he did there first up. He can improve off that, so he has to be right in the race for sure. Warney's going to need a bit of luck back towards the inside, a horse that I thought was big odds if they overdo it in front, and the one I probably want to have a play on is Panova. Here, Willie Pike out the back, just watching them all go around, and should get last crack at them. If he can make rounds and they overdo it, Panova could definitely win the race, so small each way, play the 10, but wouldn't be shocked to see the six or the one win the race, Dino.
Speaker 13Yes, the map points me in the direction of my bet, and that's Regal Award. I think there's not a whole lot of pressure on paper. This horse should land in the first four or five in transit. I think in a muddling run race, that is definitely very, very key. Really good first up. I dare say this horse has all the ability in the world. It's just sort of two to three gears behind in its brain. I think it's starting to finally work that out. The penny's starting to drop, and I think Regal Award's a race to lose. Gannon, I wanted to get your thoughts on Lady Shenandoah. 1,600 meters. Do you reckon that sees her out? Have a look at her sectionals last start out and the Sir Rupert Clarke, and it just didn't scream 1,600 meters. I know she's a group one winner, but her rating did rate down there when she won that as a
Speaker 11three-year-old. Yeah, I think 1,500 meters is the very, very, very top, so I'm happy to take her on, Dino.
Speaker 2All right, then. Let's have a look at the last race at Caulfield, and this is the weekend hustler stakes, and it's $6 the field here too, Zackey Tunbridge.
Speaker 9Yep, very open. The best backed runner so far is Persian Spirit around that $6 mark. dollar mark. Harry's yacht is the favourite, or equal favourite, but they definitely like persian spirit most
Speaker 2all right then we'll start off with
Speaker 13you dino yeah very very tricky way to round out the day g i'm sort of working between the two favorites harry's yacht and persian spirit harry's yacht probably gets a better draw persian spirit's going to get back along the fence gate four maybe smothered up so harry's yacht's probably going to get out in the clear first but benny it's it's a tricky old way to end the day
Speaker 10it's very tricky i'm getting a little bit sick of persian spirit so now's probably the time to jump on harry's yacht and step arty are the two bets for me i think uh the rail going back to the true late on in the day gives harry's yacht his chance just to peel off b3 wide with cover and then come into the race and step arty i know he's been trialing against not very good horses but he looks like he's absolutely airborne regal zeus is your leader with the 59 if he goes here i think harry's yacht might be able to turn the tables on him with that uh with that weight swing mickey gannon wouldn't
Speaker 11shock to see any of these horses being regal zeus out in front you just never know um just you know pulls their pants down from time to time could do it again harry's yacht gets every possible and persian spirit gets its chance as well so i think you just take those three in your quatties
Speaker 2it's a great day cool field what about your best boys outside of the quaddie legs because you've got the herbert power um you've got a couple of handy philly and mares races um that benchmark race to kick off proceedings of beauty you've got the northwood plume as i mentioned for the mares and then the scalacci which sees the return of jigsaw benny very
Speaker 10keen on two horses race five number seven bridal waltz i think point barrow might be the more talented mayor of the two but map is going to count for plenty so she's going to be probably a long way in front of her i think she can turn the tables with a nice ride and race six number one in jigsaw i think he uh leads i think he kicks i think he wins wait for age suits him down to the ground and ray magnerio to run on into top four
Speaker 11mickey gannon race two number five sequent i think can get the job done there i think he's going to be j mac to be positive from the wide draw and race three number one surf and bird lands on speed and be very very hard to beat sequin's
Speaker 2an interesting horse she's got a few tricks it'd be interesting to see how she does go around caulfield mickey g she does have a few
Speaker 11tricks gareth that's for sure but uh you got the right amount of board to iron out any issues and her figures um they'll blow these away so she can probably still get a few things wrong
Speaker 2and still win dino your
Speaker 13best yeah speaking on that whole sequin uh race two number five went to 1400 meters last rg back to 12 now likes to land on speed it just screams a caulfield horse just got to get around the track but like gannon mentioned figures wise you'd think this horse would be sub two dollars so i dare say the pylon will start 9am on saturday for sequin
Speaker 2don't go anywhere we'll take a break and we'll come back with your questions on the garrett's horse and hound text line
Speaker 1join the conversation text us on 0 4 9 7 3 6 7 3 6 live across australia this is giddy up with

Speaker 13dino yeah maybe top 10 like benny mentioned but yeah it's it's hard he had one stint here g and it probably wasn't as fruitful as like so maybe that leaves a bit of a bad taste in people's minds but over in wag he's the man

Speaker 10it did you i saw it so dino would the is that pricing based off their performances in the everest itself
Speaker 13yeah so i did it off the the years that they ran the best obviously tempted probably when she was a three-year-old yes yes yes there's a three or 53 kilos but it was very very hard to price and i got a lot of feedback for that
Speaker 10now i can understand it based off that because yes yes yes run a track record when he won it so he's second favorite i'd still be back in car you know at 280 did he give 280 for carrying rising
Speaker 2he was drinking again well yeah
Speaker 13he's gonna have he's gonna have nature strip and it's a heavy tan tractor you can't let's be honest you can't price
Speaker 10kane rising even in this year's everest off his absolute peak numbers yep um yeah it was tricky mickey
Speaker 2gatton what do you think he's speechless g yeah he just didn't want to say anything come that's um i love that mickey someone just said i
Speaker 10think you're on mute me
Speaker 2is he on mute he's speechless yeah i don't know if he's there i can hear you yeah hey um the fans need another yes or no this week g man and the turak loved it last week that's my biggest probably do you know

Speaker 2boys the delay
Speaker 13paid off yes yes has
Speaker 2gallo finally ended his relationship with poor denari that's from josh yeah we're
Speaker 11seeing other people yeah hi guys
Speaker 2love the show each day exercise a pull each morning at six and rush home to listen learn laugh smile great show we're tipping for weekend races why don't you have a comp where you can only pick a roughy over 10 to one like in four races and the winner is based on um a ten dollar each way bet um that's from michael go make the spin in the seymour cup on sunday as a part owner good on you michael i like that we might do that we'll start with it next week um hey g man and the boys are you boys more confident that she's alibi will handle 2000 better than autumn glow that's from donna's definitely
Speaker 10because this is going to be a slowly run race whereas the other one with light infantry man in that queen elizabeth she just got taken out of her comfort zone so she's
Speaker 2yeah also my mate damos is stoked at that six horse challenge is back happy punting boys love it um she's alibi is a dollar 36 stepping up to 2000 for the first time with birdman around 370 is this a genuine champion in the making or is the market priced in a performance she hasn't actually produced over this distance would love those melbourne cup carnival passes please good on you kim uh mickey what do you make that's a good question
Speaker 11it's a really good question and she clearly is because she's marked to run you know up to probably her two top performances yeah over two thousand meters which we haven't seen her out yet now we're guessing and as to benny's point it will likely be a more slowly run at least early uh two thousand meters so she should get a chance or opportunity to run it out But great question. Two tickets. Lock it in, Jay.
Speaker 2There you go. All right. Then Kim from Geelong can have those two tickets. Can Old Knight's Choice get up on Saturday and be back for a second Melbourne Cup? Would love the boys' view on his race. That's from Maury, regular listener. He has to be a chance, doesn't he? Mickey Gannon on a dry track. I know Mark Hunter gave him a good push this morning in the Herbert Power.
Speaker 11Yep. Has to be a chance. $9 is the right price. This way, that is, to win the Herbert Power. I can't see him winning a Melbourne Cup this time around. But I think Pete Holt wins the race, though, Gareth. So I think he's clearly the horse on the up.
Speaker 10Yep. Danny? I personally couldn't take $9 Knight's Choice. He's a chance. But yeah, I've got others ahead.
Speaker 2Last year, the Cox Plate didn't have a single runner go into the race off a win. It's looking like that might be the case again this year. Well, Cosby Corsata win the Caulfield Cup and will go into the Cox Plate. Great show, fellas. Just wondering if we can get Mickey G to pronounce that horse's name. That's fine. Cigarette this afternoon, SEN track from 1 o'clock.
Speaker 11We'll pronounce it on the hour, every hour.
Speaker 2Does Treasure of the Moment go forward? She ran a much better race last start. Well, she will go forward, but they don't want to leave with her.
Speaker 10She'll go forward. That Prada Jenny race, Prada Jenny actually ran at a slower tempo than what she usually does. I'd be very careful in marking that. A really good piece of form.
Speaker 2Anyone else thinking Aliano's this year's Melbourne Cup is giving the same feel as Very Elegant's Cup? Yeah. Class horse. Belts and mediocre internationals and average locals. That's from Justin. The big question is, Justin, will she go to the Melbourne Cup? I don't know.
Speaker 13She will, G, and she'll win the race.
Speaker 2All right, then. Your mail is off, then. You want Cheese Alibi to go to a Cox Plate. They'll have to pay. I know Freddie Nofsky's just bought a Mercury. No, no, no.
Speaker 13I'm not saying I want her to go there, G. I just said, will it maybe tickle their interest? But back to Aliano, G. Zach's ain't preparation as Very Elegant, so that text message is bang on.
Speaker 2They're going to pay $200,000. Is she not? Still not. No, she's not. Are you sure? Yeah, I'm pretty sure. I'm pretty sure. I was at the luncheon yesterday. I didn't see her. Hi, boys. Castillo King might be a cool more contender if it overcomes a bad gate on Saturday. What do you think? Dino, that's from Clary from Wagga.
Speaker 13Yep. Can't draw a gate this preparation, but we'll get back. Speed on. I like this setup much better for these horses. This is a rung below, obviously, the Golden Rose, I dare say. So, can bounce back, has a turn of foot, and yes, looks a straight track horse, if I've ever seen one. I've never seen one.
Speaker 2That hat will sit nicely in my retirement village, Gareth, that giddy-up hat. Is that a whack or a compliment? I'm a little unsure. I'd say a whack. Yeah, yeah. A lot of people loving the giddy-up hat, by the way. Morning G, the market is completely missed in the Roman console. Blessed Eagle, your thoughts there?
Speaker 11Mickey Gannon? Just raised the number so I can bring it back to the screen. Ah, raised six. Six. Yeah, beautiful. Six. Land on speed. Yeah. Map's pretty good. Land on speed. No ceiling for the horse yet. But in saying that, last two figures have been pretty close. Comes through the mid-week stuff. I don't think it's the right form on, so I think Paradoxium has its measure.
Speaker 2All right, then. We have run out of time. I've gone well over, so I apologize for that, Riley. It is 10:37. The weekend preview top four multi's about to come down, so you've got a couple of minutes
Speaker 10left. The good price, anyway.
Speaker 2Yeah. It'll stay up. It'll stay up. It'll stay up. I'm so confident. And the six horse challenge, just recapping all of that, Zach, is back.
Speaker 9Yep. So six horse challenge is back. Probably best to do that after your scratching is tomorrow. You have to be logged in to see. And the stakeback isn't just race one this week. It's races one, two, and three, so they've upped it even more.
Speaker 2Beautiful. And you two, Mickey Gannon and Zachy Tumbries, are looking a treat on Giddy Up Saturday morning, so you just keep on dominating. Dino, thanks to Betsy.com.au, we can get all of your tips. Jumping into a pool this week with your speedos on, what have you got in store for us?
Speaker 13No, I haven't got nothing this week, G. I've got a little educational video actually going out this afternoon, which would be cool. Oh, that'd be riveting. It's on three. I'm only joking. I'm looking forward to it. No, it's for the three Melbourne features, G, so I've got a little futures play for all three features. I'm going to chime into a little futures multi there. Okay. When can I watch that?
Speaker 2That'll be up. She's an alibi.
Speaker 13Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It should be up about five o'clock this afternoon, G. It's a little bit longer forms. I don't know how it's going to do, but there might be some jumping to the pool next week, G. You've got a bit of something planned for Friday.
Speaker 2In all seriousness, you're doing a wonderful job there, and Benny Caluzzi, you have a wonderful
Speaker 10day. Thanks, mate. Ten of the best at the rat today in studio. Any winners? Maybe Skijelmo, race number four.
Speaker 2Okay. Robbie Griffiths gave us a good push there. Oh, that's good. Yeah. Have a great day, Benny. Thank you. Hey, good on you, Mickey. Good on you, Zach. Good on you, Dino. And that is the weekend preview. We'll take a break. We'll come back with plenty more next.

Speaker 15G'day, Popey. Good morning, Gareth.
Speaker 2How's things, mate?
Speaker 15Oh, mate, I'm back home. Obviously, the weather's improved since I've left down there, so. Yes. Anyway, yeah, mate, also a big thank you. We've already had some pretty good support with the website too. Beautiful. Sectional Edge.
Speaker 2So, Sectional Edge. What's the website again, mate?
Speaker 15Yeah, www.sectionaledge.com.au. Yeah. Have a look. We're ready to roll, mate. Oh, that is exciting, mate.
Speaker 2How do we back some winners at Morfaville tomorrow?
Speaker 15Mate, bit of a weather watch again. I'm working on a soft five at the moment. It's a good four, but there's a bit of rain predicted. Anyway, we're going to start off in race three, number seven, one day at a time. This is a Victorian visitor. Now, dropping in grade to a class two, gee, I think it gets in well here. There's no tempo in this race. Not worried about the wide draw. I think it goes forward with Jason Holder aboard. It does tick a lot of boxes, especially even dropping in weight, 55 and a half kilos. I've got to rate it a $3 chance, Gareth. All right, then. So, a $3 chance, race seven. Race three, number seven, one day at a time. Calvin McEvoy gave that horse a good push to us there the other day. What else do you like, Popey? So, he should, yeah. Mate, also very keen here. Race five, number seven, one day at a time. It's going to be a good race. I don't know. being risen uh it's gone up in trip mate um was so impressive winning over 1400 meters two starts ago however it was this last up run mate was against a very similar lineup to this last start race no closer than four wide no cover uh still kept hitting the line taking ground off the winner um now draws the fence uh there's not too much tempo here the only query but geez it'll settle a lot closer clear top pick i know it's rock bottom odds about three dollars is the rate of price but i think it'll be horribly hard to beat so
Speaker 2that's race five number eight what else have you got for us okay mate
Speaker 15let's go and get a bit of value here and i i can't believe there's one in here in race six number two nick off home now i can't believe the price of this now this is a country victorian visitor uh seriously has its hoof right on the till coming off the back of two close-up runner-up efforts uh importantly since uh being stepped up in trip now it's record the trip it's been placed four from five and also it'll make its own luck up on the pace now dropping in weight after the claim after jordan weatherly's claim now it gets him with 57 kilos geez i think it um ticks a lot of boxes here mate it's going to give us a great um on pace site with bet 365 it's still they're still trading at twelve dollars mate so i think that's a it's a great each way play it's going to give us a great winning result and the last of
Speaker 2your specials mate okay
Speaker 15i've been sucked in here again but i can't i can't let race seven number three eye symphony go um we did tip it a few times last campaign but they were also remembering they were in better races than this now first up last campaign this horse came runner up behind mitchell lee in a benchmark 72 much better race now i'm not one for trials really but it trialed like a bomb recently um and now we're getting like 18 i think i was 17 i think i last saw with bet 365 mate i've got a rate of a 7.50 chance so what price
Speaker 2we're getting there tomorrow it's around 17 so high symphony we'll take that price mate um appreciate your help poppy quickly have you got anything
Speaker 15out wide for us uh at caulfield race two number five really keen on sequined yeah um the rg where can i also go race race three number nine civitri they're my two rook in place beautiful

Speaker 16yeah i'm hoping to get it early with all they go race one number one this horse for michael hickman who showed enough i thought as a two-year-old to be very hard to beat here was uh look one here on debut and then then um it's next two runs we're in stakes races behind verzan who's obviously a quite talented horse it trolled up really nicely this horse there was good money for it earlier it's short but i think it'd be very hard to be race one number one all they go and then we get some value uh later in the day i think race eight number eight fast tempo can win again he's won three of his last five probably should have finished a lot closer to freedom flame last start at murray bridge when he got held up at a crucial point of that race and um i think at the each way price he's a really good bet fast tempo the horse is flying and as is uh damian richardson gordon uh gordon richardson damian mall sorry their stable is absolutely airborne so i think at the each way price uh fast tempo will run really well in race eight and then a little bit of value for me race nine number one boy this horse is uh talented sprinter for stephen theodore's stable you know what you get with boyd he draws the right gate to put himself right up there on speed and i think at the double figure odds he'll run a cheeky race race nine number one boyd so
Speaker 2race one number one race eight number eight race nine number one um good on you mate thanks for that enjoy tomorrow
Speaker 16thanks gareth see you
Speaker 2mate there's lincoln moore thanks to racing sa time for a break country corner coming up next with josh mcginnis join the conversation

Speaker 2giddy up it's time for the country corner thanks to crv with josh mcginnis and what a time to be alive really joshy hello to you
Speaker 17g'day gareth it's a big weekend cawfield guinea's weekend but more importantly on the country circuit three big cups and angatang's the highlight anywhere in the state really it absolutely is and with no disrespect to hamilton and seymour seymour's a terrific card always is actually as well but uh no all roads lead to manangatang tomorrow mighty manang the heart of the melee there'll be uh 3 000 on course tomorrow this is a town of about 200 people and um everyone's going to descend into the heart of the melee and what what a day it is out at manang it's true authentic country racing there'll be footy trips netball trips bucks and hens parties you name it they uh it's a bit of a destination place out at manang and the the real authentic country experience we can't
Speaker 2wait billy carroll reckons he's got the track um looking great always
Speaker 17do and uh a shout out it'll be remiss to me a shout out to the teams at gun bear and matoa from last week who unfortunately were forced to be abandoned through all not all the wet weather but um they still had a phantom medic gun bear and it was a terrific day it felt like you you're at the races but we uh we move forward to uh to manang tomorrow and the the track's absolutely ready uh the crowd are going to be there in full force and uh good luck to everyone involved they do a terrific job the the fashions there as well good luck to to one of our old friends kyla who runs the fashions at manang and everyone involved on course it's going to be a ripper of an afternoon if you haven't been to the manang races do yourself a favor and get out there who's going to win the
Speaker 2mananga tank cup it's worth forty thousand dollars it is it's
Speaker 17forty thousand dollar race we've got last year's winner holly star it's a terrific story for for trainer toby lake there's some really prominent owners uh as part of this horse as well benny spall uh racing journo he's involved in in the horse as well and uh and billy knights the sonata stalwart as well and the plan is to go to the sonata cup and win his hometown cup but uh no a nice race the manang cut worth forty thousand and maybe holly star can do the the double tomorrow yeah and looking forward to
Speaker 2seymour as you point out on sunday the noon boys will have a comprehensive preview of this card on sunday morning for correct weight but we've copped a lot of tips this week regarding the seymour cup like i think johnny mccarland might go to caulfield tomorrow with regal seuss and there's a few horses that have joined on but um the best tip that we got is immediacy ethan brown and boston and young combining
Speaker 17yeah absolutely a good horse media see and um has been running around in some stronger races obviously the last couple of preps as well um horses along the lines of um country cup sort of stalwart statuario just a deal and why mark they're always around the mark uh storm leopard who was really well backed at flemington last start uh into about two dollars fifty at uh at at flemington um lightweight drawn well and maybe a slightly colder ride doesn't doesn't have to lead but uh the seymour cup it's proved a terrific form race in in recent years we look at horses like termy loose last year's quinella was code atlantic also listed winner last start defeated st george on the caulfield cup path as well so and an excellent field and who could forget five years ago uh a little known uh horse called mr brightside over from new zealand the the the champ who's still going along so so wonderfully well and it it again highlights that these these country cups can really prove to be a bit of a springboard for future success and stardom and another big field on sunday the track's going to play really well and um good luck to everyone involved at seymour they do a terrific job year in year out and yeah we'll be out on course it's going to be a wonderful day
Speaker 2and hamilton sunday as well hamilton saturday saturday sorry yeah uh saturday saturday saturday
Speaker 17saturday sorry yeah uh saturday uh tomorrow um a country and western sort of theme a ranch theme
Speaker 2style this jacket would have fit well uh i would have been i would have um fitted him well
Speaker 17absolutely and that cord uh hat you're rolling the giddy up hat that's doing plenty as well jay but
Speaker 2with hair like yours you don't need a hat brother yeah
Speaker 17we'll play with it whilst we've got some but it might be a different story soon david uh no hamilton tomorrow um good luck to everyone at hamilton as well a nice field uh assembled vegas jack for for craig conron uh won a few races during the winter months a really progressive stay might be the one to beat there uh there's a bit of a tip going around last week from the busted and young yard for the doctor of love they give it a nice push and uh any luck is a bit of a country cups uh star across the the circuit so um now a nice field there's a melbourne cup carnival series heat as well uh you win that and you're into the half million dollar race on oaks day um so plenty happening at hamilton as well stay with us josh
Speaker 2i'll take a break i want to touch on the picnic season um and that's always exciting and then i think we're going to try and get josh from warsham a few text messages coming through he's needed his best across the weekends
Speaker 1join the conversation text us on 049-736-736 live across australia this is giddy up with With Gareth Hall.
Speaker 2Giddy up, Gareth Horwood here. We continue on Country Corner as we welcome in our friends listening to us on their local SEN Turf Dial right throughout WA. They join our audience on RSN, SEN Track, and of course on Racing.com. Country Corner brought to you by CRV. It's got highlight reels and action-packed moments right in front of you. Country Racing has got it all this spring. Enjoy live entertainment, action-packed racing, and more country racing has got it all. And the picnic meeting season isn't far away.
Speaker 17Yeah, the picnic season. It kicks off next week, Gareth, at Yay, the traditional kickoff point. But tonight, the meeting at Cranbourne, they run a race called the Cranbourne Corinthian. It gets all the picnic participants involved running on the professional circuit. It's a really nice initiative from Racing Victoria, and it's going to be headlined by the star of the picnic season from last year, a horse called Diamanda for Mick Binney. It's the only horse that Mick has in work. He's approaching 80 years old. He won his hometown cup last year, the Ballinari Cup, and then graduated. He's graduated to the professional circuit. Now, he's going to have a big, big task. Got his shoulder 79 kilos tonight. But, again, a wonderful opportunity for these connections and trainers and jockeys to run on the professional circuit with some nice prize money. So, we're looking forward to that tonight. And the picnic season, it just adds so much to the spring carnival and the season more broadly. So, I can't wait to get stuck in as of next week.
Speaker 2Good on you, Josh. Have a great day, mate. Enjoy Menangatang. Thanks, G. We'll enjoy. There we go, Gers. Joshie McGinnis from Cranbourne. Country racer Victoria. Josh from Horsham joins us now with his tips in country Victoria over the weekend.
Speaker 18Hello, Josh. What's going on, G, mate?
Speaker 2Nothing much, mate. I've got my pen ready to go. Where do we start with your plays, brother?
Speaker 18Well, we're going to start at Ballarat today, I reckon. We're going to go race nine, number four, Lady Vostok. We're fitted for four runs this time. Beaten favourites are in heavy going at Bendigo last time. Look, this is one of those Melbourne Cup Carnival country mile series heats. Targeted one of these with this horse last year and ran second in it before finishing a narrow third to Guerite in the final. So I think they'll plot out a similar plan here this year. Good prize money on Opos. But lots of their rivals are well up in grade for this one. And she knocks around this company as a rule, I reckon. So she draws well. I think she looks really hard to beat at about five or six dollars. Race nine, number four, Lady Vostok.
Speaker 2Beautiful. What else have you got this weekend?
Speaker 18Let's go to Sports Street at Menangatang. Race five, number nine, Pop the Bubbly. Look, this mare run at Mono Maiden last prep fourth up and she hits it at the same stage tomorrow. She's been just okay at three runs this time in, but probably good enough for this grade. She draws to find the front or somewhere near it. Sarah Field claims, I think she's probably the best of a modder of a bunch here.
Speaker 2Love it. They'll be popping plenty of bubbles, I would imagine, there at Menangatang tomorrow and the final of your specials on a Sunday.
Speaker 18It will be like a week. It's like a war zone after the last there. Seymour on Sunday, race eight, number four, Costella. This is the value. Comes here second up. Solid enough first up on the Heath track. Draws awkwardly here. It's wide, but look, a good second up winner last prep in better grade. It was a better race than one last time. Seymour's generally a very, very fair track. It's one of the better ones. So if he finds himself back in the field, he should get his chance to run on. I think he's a good each-way spec on Sunday. That's Costella. Beautiful, mate.
Speaker 2You go and enjoy your weekend and enjoy your peak. Big weekend of racing as well, Josh.
Speaker 18One of the great weekends, Gareth. Thank you, mate.
Speaker 2There's Josh from Horseshoe. He's one hell of a judge. Josh McKinnis thanking him for the country corner here. Thanks to CRV on this Friday. We'll take a break. We'll come back and we'll find you a few winners for the opening day of Ascot in WA on the weekend. It's time now to preview the opening day of Ascot. One of my favourite meetings anywhere in the country all year. I love getting back to Ascot and WA. You can tune in to Racing WA TV on 7 Plus and Racing.com, your ultimate destination for everything racing in the West. Terry Leighton and Pete Anthonis join me. Hello to you, Terry. How are we? I am well. How are you, Pete?
Speaker 19Yeah, morning to you, Gareth. Morning to Terry. Morning to everyone at home.
Speaker 2Now, boys, forget about the Caulfield Guineas. Forget about She's Alibi and the Might and Power, Lindemann going around the Hill Stakes, the Roman Consul, with Paradoxium and Suetono Glow. The big clash everybody's talking about in Australian racing is race six at Ascot. Terry Leighton's railway selection, like a clockwork. A light clockwork taking on the Basset Hound. What a way to go. What a way to kick off the Ascot season, Terry.
Speaker 14Yeah, what a cracker, isn't it? To be honest with you, I reckon the light clockwork placement's really questionable. I don't understand why you're coming back to 1,000 after such a nice win, first up 1,200. Clearly a career best run for me, even though there have been a lot of good runs in her short career to date. But I'm so glad they have because it is such a great clash and one that has us all talking. So I'm personally always going to side up with the horse. The horse with the fresher legs, who I think is ready for the five furlongs. It's such a specialist trip, I think, compared to getting out over further or perhaps dropping back in trip. So I am going to be with Basset Hound. I'm happy having a bet at $2.50 plus for Basset Hound. But it doesn't mean I think light clockwork is any worse than I initially thought. I think, if anything, my opinion of light clockwork has only gone in one direction. It just depends what type of race they want to target. I'd be going for a railway.
Speaker 2Well, I asked Bob that and he wasn't quite sure. But you never know with Bob. And as we pointed out at the start of the week, it's difficult to work out what Bob is thinking. I wish I knew what he was thinking on Monday when there was $17 for Cosmic Crusader. But light clockwork, I know they've got a big opinion of her $2.20. But I can't believe it, Pete. Terry Layton has finally come to his senses. He jumped on the Basset Hound bandwagon. It's taken him a little while, but he's finally woken up to himself.
Speaker 19Yeah. I mean, look, I'm not going to lie. I remember this meeting last year, and I think Terry and I were in the same boat. We both had immense confidence going into the meeting. We both got completely stripped. And this time around, I'm just looking at this race, for instance, G, and just going, this is a nightmare on paper, this race. I don't know who's getting the best run. There's speed on paper, but Kings Court, Thermosphere Lad can both miss the jump. In which case, you've got horses like Tycoon Harry and Divine Belief out in front. I don't know what tempo they're going to go. I think every chance they slow down. I mean, in the middle of the race as well. So I just think whoever gets the best run is probably going to win this. And whether that's a light clockwork or Basset Hound or even possibly a schnitzel latte, I wouldn't completely forget about her either. Yeah, no bet. I'll be keen to watch it, but I've got no interest in betting into this race. I'll put it that way.
Speaker 2Yeah. For the carnival's sake, let's hope the Basset can get the job done. And let's be honest, Mitchell Pateman could train me to win a Melbourne marathon at the moment. He's in unbelievable form, the great man. So yeah, I'll be watching that. I'll be watching that race, race six there at Ascot on Saturday afternoon, light clockwork taking on Basset Hound and schnitzel latte, as you pointed out, the forgotten horse in a way, Pete. All right then, Terry Layton, the opening day of Ascot. We all do probably get too excited about this meeting, but I can't wait to see what you've got to say regarding your plays.
Speaker 14Oh, I have too many. If you wanted all my bets, I literally, it's about eight pages on a spreadsheet. There goes your bank. I just laugh because Pete's so right. I genuinely think I'm going to back all 10 winners tomorrow, and I'll probably walk out of there exactly the same as last year. But one thing I do say is I love opening days at any race track because you tend to get, even though there's been some rain in Perth, you tend to get a really fair deck. And if you do your form well, the best horses win, your speedmaps pay out. You're not relying on, you know, you get late Belmont and you have to be hard fence, so you have to be eight off the rails to win. Like usually at Ascot, you can win leading or you can win second half, as long as there's enough speed in the race. So in saying that, where will we start? Race number two, Gareth, probably the one race of the day nobody cares less about, but I reckon we can make some money. So let's worry about that aspect, a little very poor staying race. I reckon they've got to send Snazzler forward here. He's only led twice in his last, oh, about 20 starts, I reckon. One was a dominant win in Bunbury when he circled and led over 2200. Harder race than this. And the other one was three starts ago, running fifth to the Crimson Pirate. Yes, I know, which is just significantly better form than this. All the horses that beat him home that day would be like $1.50 here. So just in a race with no speed, just lead on Snazzler at $10 in a seven-horse field, and he's in front for so long. So I really hope that's what they do from the widest gate. And in that same race, the BC is the one the market will continue to attack and has to be a result or at least a save as well at sort of high twos. So that's probably my most confident play race for the day, which is quite funny in the weakest, poorest staying race on the card. Race number four, I want to back Billionaire's Row. I'm very wary how horses will go from Grant and Alana Williams to Jason Pateman. I think it's worth, I don't know how much you've talked about it, Gareth, but I think it's worth noting that the horses haven't left, in my understanding, having won with them, obviously, the horses haven't left the property. Their routines haven't changed. Jason has moved in or just basically taken over the regime. So the majority of the staff would be the same. They might have missed a run perhaps in there at some point. point in time a gallop sorry at some point in time but in general not a huge amount has changed so i'm going to treat them like grant liliana williams take one length at the moment if that makes sense until i can get a hold on what we do with their horses so um but he's returned brilliantly he trialed great against desert waves um the wind first up beat nothing but to carry 60 in the breeze and dominate like he did just suggest he's come back as well as that trial looked like he had um i think they can lead or breeze again here and we should get each way something close to 657 bucks at the moment but i've probably done a bit of damage to that i think that'll rebound a bit and we get seven eight nine dollars each way late uh what else we got two more aberdeen flyer in race number five i think wins progressive horse young horse um a lot of horses in that that are on their mark um anything north of 250 having a happy having a bet for a horse that should have won far more than the one race um in its career to date and in that same race gareth speed dream is humming won't know itself for the 52 and a half and i i've marked the second favorite so i'm going to make speed dream at 15 bucks ish are really big results on the day as well uh plenty more but in the feature a couple of roughies in good nick i think it's been forgotten about everyone's tipping coz i am who i'll be having something on as well um but in good nick i think clint johnston porter was offered quite a few rides and he's opted for this at about 30 to 1. love the trial i think the low draw could be a blessing with the speed out in front if gaps appear it can save the ground that the others won't save and i just think 30 to 1 we can we can lose a couple of bucks on that without um without losing any sleep
Speaker 2in good nick i love it that would be a great start to the carnival luke fernie clint johnston porter um oram bell at 270 it's an interesting map for her terry where do you have her
Speaker 14well the whole race i need i need about four hours to talk about this card gareth this is the problem here the whole this whole race is so fascinating because it's it's all about mindsets and i'd love to hear what pete thinks as well it oren bell sat in a recent trial are they going out there to say what's our best chance of winning this do we try and get to the breeze outside of dawn dance so which five horses will probably want or do we teach her to settle and do we try and win no chance do we try and get over a little bit further and win other races so i i personally think they're going to try and settle no they're
Speaker 2not sorry i really appreciate you listening they're not yeah we had i know you're a big supporter but nifty was on the show yesterday i must have missed that one yeah i said are you gonna go back nifty goes don't be stupid gareth we'll be going forward he reckons he'll
Speaker 14cross well that's a good decision yeah that's he reckons he'll cross dawn dancer yeah
Speaker 2he reckons he's i love
Speaker 14that that's good intent yeah that's that's the right way they should be going about it if they're trying to win this particular race so uh i do like that but dearie me dawn dancer won't be handing up for um for the life of it and then he's a machine i only knows one way it's drawn outside of oren bell i think they'll sit maria lucia even joshie brown's in barrier one but there's a few horses people forget a very quick draw low yeah who will win the race but i think that's going to who will be happy sitting but they're also going to be using early gate speed to hold that spot so um geez that's fascinating it'll be
Speaker 19tremendous viewing pete i love the trail of oren bell behind basset hounds i think she's clearly got the best ability from what i've seen so far of any of these horses her sp profile is perfect for this race i don't mind the draw i'd rather have drawn out than in i will take anything above three dollars i just had to factor in a little bit of uh you know there's a little bit of risk attached obviously doing two-year-old form and extrapolating to three-year-olds but i thought she was clearly the best chance of winning this race uh she's my best bet on the day well i
Speaker 2should have told um terry that neville was going to go back or it shouldn't have told him whatsoever then you might have got 350 you might have got 350 but there you go um so it's a great race a fire of gidgy coals the the caracatta winner boys your thoughts there um yeah it
Speaker 14could win um it was it was a nice enough trial the other one aesthetically he's machine i think it was trialed better um but it's everything needs to go right with 59 against this type of quality of horse so we saw um it do its best work over the 1200 in the caracatta so my thoughts just especially at the price it's definitely not a tempting price is um is to wait uh for later in the prep maybe when there's a set weights race where they all carry the same as well
Speaker 2pete your best bets on this card at asco
Speaker 19yeah so far like it's pretty lean gee i'm not gonna lie but aurem bell um she was the main one and in race five i also found speed dream but i wanted to have something on pond master as well um which is a little bit left of field i think we'll get a better price than the five but i've just loved the map for pond master there so uh pretty lean otherwise gee i'm not gonna lie i found a lot of the market in a lot of the races i've done so far
Speaker 2all right then so basically your main play comes up race nine number six you're playing speed dream which is a little bit different which is race five horse number six um terry you like aberdeen flyer as well in that race you're playing a couple in the second snazzler to lead all the way bc you're saving on that galloper and billionaires row hopefully that will be we won't get to a billion but maybe a million if we follow you in race four number four at ascot quickly the two-year-old race i got a good push from nifty uh neville parham about turning point at sixteen dollars and he'll be going for board um but mitchell pateman's two-year-old did troll nice didn't it uh malice star there the other day terry yeah it did
Speaker 14um turning point especially from nine i couldn't get anywhere near turning point personally so i don't think early two-year-old form is necessarily my strength either over the journey i saw mark almost put something on twitter with all the recent winners and i just thought geez i haven't backed too many of those over the journey yeah i don't remember having a fill on any of the first races at ascot in the last 10 years but uh i don't think i've ever had a fill on any of the first races at ascot in the last 10 years but um i thought that luke fernie's in that race all that class was as good a trial as mitchell's was um mitchell's was written to lead luke's was snagged they both jumped the same um and obviously it hit the line great so perhaps the edge in that race i can see is that all that class should be closer to malice star
Speaker 2in price beautiful boys you have a wonderful time there at ascot for opening day we appreciate your time as always good luck cheers
Speaker 19gareth there we go terry layton and
Speaker 2peter anthonis will take a break nick ashman's not far away
Speaker 1join the conversation text us on 04009 736 736 live across australia this is giddy up with gareth hall welcome back to giddy up
Speaker 2we've got a busy final part of giddy up coming your way nick ashman from thebeatenfavorite.com joins us as he always does on a friday nicholas hello to you mate
Speaker 20hello g happy gd we've got the footage season done and dusted in both cars and we've got the road and we can focus firmly on the four-legged animals where
Speaker 2do we start with your plays this
Speaker 20weekend mate yeah we'll just quickly up at rose hill i reckon there's a 20 to 1 pop in race 8 the allen brown stakes the stadia and the star luck geez he's got a good third up record uh finishing the canela in six of his eight third up runs he started 11 in the strat road third up last preparation getting almost double that on saturday so he goes into the bet flip i thought chris waller's wonka uh willie wonka was pretty good winning the dulcify last week so i'm giving him a chance there in the uh gloaming stakes on the seven day backup obviously david payne's philly proximate day um she's uh she looks pretty talented she's unbeaten and the market late would be really intriguing with her first up 1800 meters and probably just quickly i'm not short on time but down in melbourne in race five i thought brighter waltz could turn the tables on point barrow she was down in lane and when point barrow nabda uh when they last met a couple of weeks ago she was out in lane six and every winner from that point onwards was even wider than lane six so i reckon maybe uh broader waltz was on the ig by that stage of the day i think she'll turn the tables on saturday she'll prove too hard to run down mate they're my best for the weekend
Speaker 2who wins the guineas mate quickly
Speaker 20oh i think wall wave and dave i just i've just sort of got prepared an email for the works burger the free subs it goes out in the morning and you know i just sort of mentioned this cock's plate market could really take shape tomorrow g because you've got birdman and she's alibi obviously if you beat her he's the cock's plate favorite but even if he gets within a length or so there's a margin the third he might become the outright favorite for the cock's plate but then after that you've got the caulfield guineas this does look like a year where a three-year-old could win the cock's plate if wall woven wins the guineas in the same manner as you won the golden rose mate he's going to be your cock's plate favorite come five o'clock saturday afternoon but hey one caveat on all that the last four three-year-old winners to win the cock's plate have come through the caulfield guineas and none of them are one octagonal so you think and seamus award i
Speaker 2reckon trombone might be your cox plate horse out of the guineas tomorrow it could be too my
Speaker 20man he could be too i reckon he goes back has a bit of a yes look around finishes off nicely and goes straight into the clock plate
Speaker 249 and a half totally agree brother you keep on dominating with that hamburger and the lot at the beaten favorite.com good man
Speaker 20thanks mate there's
Speaker 2nick ashman andro tool nt thoroughbred racing it's a bit of entertainment in the territory we're at alice springs tomorrow hello to you tool man morning gareth how are you good thank you mate take it away with your plays at alice springs
Speaker 21yeah start early get the money in the first hopefully number one hell of it uh dropped way back in grade from a last start fifth and zero to 70 grade behind the smart gold and tunes way back to a benchmark 54 here he looks uh the testing material for me so race one number one hell of it if we go to the third uh gareth uh datican rose i thought was very good last night last week uh ran third after a wide trip in transit behind a couple smart ones there millionaire lover and your point I think in this small field doesn't look the strongest lot on paper. The Vatican Rose, as long as she's come through that run okay, can do the business. So that's race three, number five, Vatican Rose. And then the next small field here, Bonnie Impact knocking on the door, number two, Greg Conner and Paul Denton, the combination. Four thirds at her last four starts. And a couple of those placings behind a couple of smart horses there in the red centre. And this is a race that she can win race four. Number two, Bonnie Impact.
Speaker 2So race one, number one, race three, number five, race four, number two. That's it, mate. Good on you, Andrew. Thanks for mate. That's Andrew Atul there. Now time to catch up with the jump out king extraordinaire, Scotty Amor. G'day to you, Scotty boy.
Speaker 22Hiya, Gareth. How are you, mate?
Speaker 2I am well, brother. What are we doing for your tips this weekend? You take it away.
Speaker 22We'll go to the best bet. It's in the first at Caulfield, BIP. I've loved his two starts, his preparation. Last start, he sat wide. And just how he finished off, I think he'll be winning. And he's going to be a top line of this horse. And he's up against a few smart ones here. But, yeah, if he's as good as what I think he is, he'll be winning.
Speaker 2All right. VIP in the first race. What are we doing after that?
Speaker 22Our best each way players in race two, Moana Spirit. I've liked its jump outs leading into this. It was very good at its first two starts. Forgive its last start before the start. And I think it's at a really nice each way play here.
Speaker 2Oh, beautiful. Anything else for us, mate?
Speaker 22Yeah. Hastings, our best place bet. We'll go to the group one race nine, the Odyssey. Really like its last start win. Third up here over the 2,000. He's group one placed at 2,000 in the past. I think he can run a really good race here. And I think he's a great place bet at the price.
Speaker 2Beautiful. The Odyssey there. David Hastings in the group one. And what happens when we back you, mate?
Speaker 22When you're back with the king, you're where all the bling.
Speaker 2Go and have a great weekend, mate. Thanks for that.
Speaker 22Yeah. Thanks, Gareth. You and your listeners have a great weekend and enjoy Guinea's day, mate.
Speaker 2Yeah. Same to you. Dean Evans from Winning Edge Investments to join me next.
Speaker 1Text us on 0400973.
Speaker 2736-736. Always great to catch up with Dean Evans from Winning Edge Investments. WinningEdgeInvestments.com. Professional betting education tips and ratings so you can treat your betting like an investment. Hello to you, Dean. Hello, Gareth. Good morning. How are you going? Feel up with the next episode last week?
Speaker 23Yeah, very nice result. It was a good win. And we've got the tracks of Western and the Cornwall. It's going to be very, very hard to beat. So there's one going around tomorrow that I think could be a real danger for him if it's a dry track.
Speaker 2All right, then. Let's have a look at these feature races tomorrow that we're going to analyze with you. And we'll start off with the Caulfield Guineas. Bet 365 is Woolwoven at 220. Blind Rays, 360. And then Trombone at 8. Central Europe at 15. Wolfgap, 17. And with its stablemate, Call Me Coach, at 17. And then you go out to Unit 5 at 23. And Diamond are at $26, mate.
Speaker 23Yeah, look, Woolwoven was obviously very impressive winning the Golden Rose for us for a length last start. He raided through the roof. Even if he regressed to his second up run to the Rose win before that rating, he still wins here. I love that he's fourth up, which is the best Caulfield Guineas profile. He has no negative factors. And he features in all sort of the top 10 factors needed to win this race. So I do think Woolwoven hard to beat. Tron Bolt looks a key danger to me. The JJ Atkins winner. He's just been set for this race from day dot. Real autumn boy vibes. Autumn boy was seventh beat and eight and a half lengths in the Golden Rose before winning the Caulfield Guineas third up last year. And Tron Bolt has that similar prep, similar profile coming up for Queensland prep where he won a group one last prep. And even more seasoned than autumn boy was. The Golden Rose form really looks the strongest form. It's produced eight of the last 14 winners of this race. And so I think Tron Bolt's a key danger. And happy to bet around Blind Rays. Gelding's won one from 37 in this Guineas at 89% loss on. Turnover in this race was third up in the Caulfield Guineas. Probably visually looked good, but though was suited by the race shape on pace. 1400 at Caulfield was a weak field. The danger sort of took off early, which made it look a bit better than if they'd set back and run on. Now, only four of the last 15 Caulfield Guineas winners have been third up, but three of those four were trained by Waller and three of them came out of the Golden Rose. And they were horses like the Autumn Stun, Animo and Autumn Boy. You know, we're talking really high quality horses, and I just can't put Blind Rays in that category. Yet, I'm proving it to my own in this grade. So there's enough for me to take a set against Blind Rays. I just think Wall Wove and Profiles perfectly and really hard to beat. But if he regresses for some reason, then Tron Bolt definitely the best each way value for the Guineas.
Speaker 2Race number nine is a Turok Handicap. We've got Regal Award. He's been well supported today in the 460. Lady Shenandoah's 650 with Bet365, Sabarge 850, Changing Colours 850, Evaporate 9. And then you're getting double figures for Warnie, Salty Pearl, Ferraro. Roche, Panova, and welcome to the show. And Sun God's a $21 chance here, Dino.
Speaker 23Yeah, look, Mares have an awful record in the Turok. No winners from 39 runners in the last 15 years. Only a couple of placings. I'm happy to bet around the likes of Lady Shenandoah, Changing Colours, and Salty Pearl who are all Mares and well in the market. Keen on a couple here. Look, Regal Award should lead. Two of his highest ratings were over a mile as a three-year-old, winning by eight lengths and then second to Panova in the Carbine Club. Both in good time. He hasn't been tried over a mile and six starts since. He was excellent first up. Third in the Sir Rupert Clark, setting a strong tempo. Three lengths above standard for Angel Capital. So I think Regal Award leads, and he could be very, very hard to run down. I thought the danger was Evaporate. He has a really strong profile for this race. He was unlucky not to win it last year. He was slow away. He over-raced. He got hampered, sort of came back and wide. He was only beating the head. He maxed much better here. He could take a trail from Gate 2 right behind Regal Award. He was good both of his first two runs this prep. He was just lame on the hard track last start and on that pace. I think there'll be a bit more give here. Those close placings in the All-Sarm Island, Caulfield, getting his rate well for this. The top weight won't worry him. Backing runners at 57 kg or more in this race has won 49% profit on turnover. Actually, backing runners down on the weight, sort of 54 kg, and blowed a really strong negative betting profile in the Tour X. So he took most boxes for this race as well, and as long as all is well, with him after pulling up lame last start, and what's not a strong addition here, I think it's a two-horse race between Regal Award and Evaporate.
Speaker 2So the confidence there with Regal Award and Evaporate in the Tour X for Dean Evans. And then we go to Sydney in the Roman Consul. Paradoxium 240, Sotono Glow 270, and then Blessed Eagle 11, Steel Wheel 11, and Castillo King at $13 here, Dean.
Speaker 23Yeah, look, keen on Paradoxium here. I couldn't believe it was $13 in the futures markets for the Cornwall earlier this week. Yeah. Some of us, and, you know, it's a dry track. I think he's a real danger to the next episode. Group 2, Todman Stakes winner, which is a key lead-up for the Slipper. I think it was three wide, no cover, and the Slipper had no luck. This was up when the Poseidon was really good. The main dangers is Sotono Glow maps last. Paradoxium's just going to control the tempo here. Blessed Eagle outside him, and I think Paradoxium just leads and kicks away, and it's far too good. There's one runner of interest at big odds called Machine Gun. I identified him from the trials before his debut. He tried well around the likes of Paradoxium, Halfpipes, and Barleys. Cherry Bombshell called me coach as a two-year-old. He won nicely for us on debut at Canterbury, and then he went to Eagle Farm and Elicit Race at his second start, over $1,400. Drifted out to $21 SP and won again for us. He was strongest on the line on a recent Roselle trial. He was taking good ground off Windchat, and his last 200 meters have been the strongest in both his wins to date. I think he's a really underrated Colton Machine Gun. He's around $26. He's drawn wide. Just don't be surprised to see him run well at each way odds, and he might be ready to do something, I think, this spring. So Paradoxium to win, but keep an eye on the Machine Gun as a Colt worth following.
Speaker 2Yeah, I love the confidence there with Paradoxium. And then we go to the midway to kick off proceedings. You've got one there for us.
Speaker 23Yeah, look at us. We've been following this prep, 4th March, set last in a Newcastle trial. Ran on strongly for second, beating the nose. He ran three and a half lengths above standard for the last 400, which was seventh quickest of the day. Sent midfield and flew home for second, first up at Newcastle, and bolted into him by two and a half lengths at Muswellbrook, second half. Ran 4.6 lengths above standard. Then showed he's another one-trick pony after being sort of a backmark and led all the way to win at Scone. Regular rider, Michaela Wireless, weir sticks here on 4th March. Drawn well on 5. She got a nice 1-1 run. Was $23 early into around sort of $13 now, but I think he's a really good each-way bet, 4th March, a horse that's in form, consistent, trialing and racing well. And could be a really nice way to start a big day of racing.
Speaker 2Love it, Dino. Winning Edge Investments, how
Speaker 23do we get involved? Yeah, winningedgeinvestments.com. It's a wide range of options, whether it's horse racing, sports or greyhounds. And just check the Contact Us page if you've got any questions, the team will help you out with plenty of options and memberships that go on really, really well. And I think we'll have another big promotion next week. - Wonderful. - For you, Gareth, major prizes, just organise some huge marquee tickets for the last day of Champions Day at Flemington, so we'll chuck that and have another promotion with Warband, so we'll get involved with that
Speaker 2next week. And last week we'll touch on the Caulfield Cup with you, but on your social media platforms, YouTube, Winning Edge Investments, that conversation with Luke Murrell, sometimes you agree, sometimes you disagree, but strong opinions, fascinating listening, job well done by both of you, so I highly recommend if anyone hasn't listened to that and they want to know about some international horses, go to the YouTube Winning Edge Investments YouTube and you can watch that content. Terrific stuff, mate, well done.
Speaker 23Yeah, thanks, Gary, I thought it was great chatting to Luke Murrell, he knows everything about the international horses and gives great insights, and we've also done a part two on all the historical profiling, so if you like your data and statistics like I do and want to nerd out on that for an hour on just every possible factor that generally wins the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups for those interested. Good on you, Dean, thanks for that, mate. Thanks, Gary, cheers.
Speaker 2There's Dean Evans there, what a weekend it is there in New Zealand, highlighted by the Livermore Classic at Group 1 level over the 2000, and Jane Ivel joins us as she always does on a Friday.
Speaker 24G'day, Jane. How are you?
Speaker 2I'm very well. What are you doing in this Group 1?
Speaker 24Look, I think that the result we saw a couple of weeks ago in the Howden is going to dictate the result of the Livermore, Y-TAC and Tuxedo, she's a dealer, Asmopharic, they're the ones that you sort of want to be playing around. I'm going to stick with Tuxedo, I tipped him ahead of the Howden, he had a pretty tough run unfortunately in transit, and he only went down narrowly, so I'm banking on Opie Bossom to do a little bit better job with his steer on Saturday, and I think that Tuxedo can turn the tables on
Speaker 2Y-TAC. I love that. A whack for Opie, don't stuff up again and we'll get the chocolates on Tuxedo. Hey, what else do you.
Speaker 24I was going to say, it's only because I talked him up and said he was going to do such a good job from the wide barrier last start.
Speaker 2What else do you like at Hastings,
Speaker 24Jane? Look, I'm. my best bet on the program comes up in race number five out of the Stephen Marsh barn. It's a galloper that didn't start his career with Stephen, he has only been there for one start, and that was fresh up this preparation. He finished second, and it was at the track and the trip, and he produced really good sectionals, and was taking a lot of ground off the winner in the finish. 14 starts to his career, and he hasn't picked up a maiden, and I know that's a concern, but if you look at the races that he's been competing in, he's been competing at a pretty high level. I think he's only been in maiden grade four times in his entire career. I think he's actually a really smart horse, so fingers crossed that he can win. He's my best bet on the program, Navy Dreams. Performer is another galloper that I really like. It's probably a danger here. I think he had some excuses at Waverley last start, so he can probably bounce back. Five, three, six, and two.
Speaker 2So race five, number five, and save on that. Race five, number three. What else do you like, Jane?
Speaker 24Race seven, which is a benchmark 75 over the 1,200 metres. I've sort of got two plays in this race. Golden Wings is the galloper that I'm going to back out right to win. I think he's been so consistent. I think he's a really progressive sprinter. Eight race day starts. He's had three wins and three placings. He was a really comfortable winner at Ellerslie over 1,200 metres, fresh up. And although he's drawn out, he's got enough gait speed to work forward and to be somewhere around the pace Golden Wings. So Golden Wings to win, but I think you do have to have a little bit of money on the Stephen Marsh trained galloper and hidden achiever. He's having his first start in New Zealand. It was formerly with Chris Waller. And if he turns up anywhere near his best for his first up assignment, I actually think that he can be really prominent. I mean, he runs second in a JJ Atkins as a two-year-old, and he was only a few lengths off Skyhook in the Hawkesbury Guineas at three. That's pretty good form. And he did have a very quiet trial. He got back in the trials, but G just runs straight up into their heels on the winning post. And I think they gave him a quiet one on purpose. So I think hidden achievement might be the sneaky bet there. So definitely worth each way.
Speaker 2Value. All right, then. Sensational stuff. Hey, Jane, we appreciate your time as always. You've been on fire for us here on Giddy Up. We owe you more than a glass of champagne. So next time we see you, we'll be definitely getting you one. So we appreciate your help.
Speaker 24Yeah, let's just hope it can continue.
Speaker 2Yeah. Thanks very much for that. All right. Cheers. From International Animal Health Products, Chris Waller joins us. Great friend of ours here on Giddy Up and International Animal Health Products. They do a wonderful job not only with their products, but also promoting and supporting the racing industry right across Australasia. And Chris joins us here on Giddy Up. Chris, hello to you.
Speaker 12Yes, good afternoon to your listeners.
Speaker 2The Livermore Classic. It's a race that's close to your heart, and it's going to be a beauty there tomorrow.
Speaker 12I think it's a cracking race tomorrow with She's the Dealer, Tuxedo, and Y-TAC in the race. I mean, Y-TAC won it last year. And the other thing I'm really pleased about, or we are really pleased about, is that we're back in the rightful home of the Livermore Classic.
Speaker 2Yeah, and so why have you got a love for this race,
Speaker 12Chris? Well, it's New Zealand's leading wait-for-age race for starters, and in previous years, the winner of the Livermore Classic has gone on to his exemption ballot from the Cox Plate. So, it's an ideal lead-up race over the same distance as the Cox Plate distance, and I mean, it's been won by some wonderful horses, including Starcraft. Melody Bell won it three times, Princess Cope, Deandre Cross, Balmerino. So, I mean, there's been some outstanding gallopers in the past that have. It's a time-honoured race, let's face it.
Speaker 2Yeah, it is a great race, and as you point out, so many terrific horses have won it. And I reckon it's great it's back at Hastings. What's your thoughts on that?
Speaker 12Absolutely. I mean, look, we got really looked after at Ellerslie and Tayrapa, but the Livermore Classic, Hastings is the home of that race, and it's got a really good. It's not just a race, it's a race day, and everybody comes out. The community supports it so well. We get a lot of the colour, the orange, the black and white, the Livermore colours. You know, people go to a lot of trouble, and it's just a great day of racing.
Speaker 2And we've got to wear the Livermore orange, when we turn up tomorrow, if you're going to the races. We certainly do. If there is fashions on the field, and you wear orange, you're halfway home, you're telling us.
Speaker 12I think so. I'll be wearing my orange tie, and my colleague's got his Paisley tie, so we'll be ready to go.
Speaker 2Oh, bloody sensational. And more importantly, who's your tip?
Speaker 12Well, MyTac won it last year. I think the filly's filly this year. She's a dealer. It's got to be a very good chance, and probably Tuxedo. But then again, there's no surprises there. I think it's a very good field, and there's probably one or two others that might show up as well.
Speaker 2Well, if they're all in Livermore, they're going to run a mighty race anyway, brother.
Speaker 12It gives them every chance. I can assure you of that.
Speaker 2They should put that in the form guide. If they're eating Livermore, then we're right.
Speaker 12I can tell you, all the ones that we've raised and bred, they're all in Livermore.
Speaker 2Have you got any winners for us, Chris?
Speaker 12We've got two in Sydney tomorrow that I think have pretty good chances. We've got in the Hill Stakes, we've got an interest in attrition. And later in the day, we've got She's an Artist running in the Nivison. I think they're both pretty good each-way chances. And then I've got a gayer filly that's unraised, a two-year-old that she's got a half-sister called Suntora racing in Melbourne in the Herbert Power. And in the first race, there's Ishanusa who's had his full brother to the filly that we've got. He's two from two and resuming over 1,700. He looks a pretty smart horse.
Speaker 2Could be a big day for your team.
Speaker 12I'm hoping so. I'm looking for a handful of winners if we can get them.
Speaker 2Alright, mate. We appreciate you coming on Giddy Up and good luck with everything
Speaker 12tomorrow. Absolute pleasure. Thank you very much.
Speaker 2Chris Lawler from International Animal Health Products. Time for a break. We'll come back with Georgie Frugia and Jason Adams. The famous Melbourne Racing Club Carnival kicks off tomorrow with the running of the Sportsbet Caulfield Guineas. And Joshie Rotter from the MRC joins me.
Speaker 25G'day, Josh. Good morning, Gareth, and good morning to everyone in the world at Giddy Up on Sportsbet Caulfield Guineas Eve. I can tell you I'm struggling to sleep on that excited Gareth.
Speaker 2Mate, I was at the launch yesterday or last night for the carnival there at Caulfield. What a way to launch your carnival. It's going to be some three days, especially the running of the 150th running of the Caulfield Cup. And I reckon with Cosmic Crusader going there now, with 56 on his back, they're talking up a few of these internationals. I reckon it's one of the better Caulfield Cups regarding a build-up. that I can recall for quite some time.
Speaker 25So we get the current second acceptors all take their place in order. We'll have seven Group 1 winners in this year's Caulfield Cup. It's a proper Caulfield Cup. It's an old-school Caulfield Cup. We've got the wait-for-age performers. The Turnbull has always been a great lead-up to the Caulfield Cup. Remember Dyer Tribe, Northerly, both using Underwood, Turnbull, Caulfield Cup. One was able to win, one was able to place. They were both able to win the Caulfield Cup. One was able to win the Cox Plate, one was able to place. I think he's a very good cosmic crusader. I've been listening to a lot of the media since he landed here and won the Bled Ching Lee. He just keeps raising the bar. I think he's been really underrated throughout, and he really stamped himself as a premier galloper in the country there last week in the Turnbull. Obviously, he enjoyed the cut-out of the track. All eyes will be on the track there Saturday week. We're just so excited about this year's Caulfield Cup. Four to five internationals, so seven Group 1 winners. It's a great mix, and it's Australia's greatest race day now because it's not just around the Sportsbet Caulfield Cup and the Group 1000 Guineas, we've all got the Everest. Where would you rather be than in Australia to watch a fantastic race day next Saturday?
Speaker 2My favourite day, nearly. There's so many favourite days, but with Sydney and Melbourne taking centre stage, you can't get a ticket for the Everest. You won't be able to get a ticket for Caulfield Cup Day as well. So, yeah, it's a special day, but tomorrow. Tomorrow, Caulfield Guineas Day, mate. What are you looking forward to most?
Speaker 25You just raised it around 150. It's the 150th running of the Caulfield Cup. The MRC is celebrating 150 years. So, we obviously ran the first meeting at Caulfield 150 years ago this year. Late last year, we celebrated 150 years since the first meeting was run at Ballarat. So, it's just been a fantastic 12 months celebrating the history of the club. You know, we've seen. We've seen cheers and tears and jaw-dropping moments. And I'm expecting to see plenty more of those this week. There's plenty of white MRC 150 retrospective things going on. The MRC 150 Wall of Fame. No-one's seen it. It's a striking 15-metre mural at Gate 23 when you enter. It's formally like a concrete slab. That's going to honour our 10 champion horses from MRC's racing history. So, I love my history. I love racing. And I love celebrating the champions. I love the people of the turf, whether they be equine or human. And we've done that around the racecourse tomorrow. The Jockey Club returns as the hero of the GA Precinct. That's that multi-level viewing area with bars and elevated track views. That'll be pumping, and entertainment. We've got DJ Regard playing after the last in the GA. And Benny Allen will be spinning the decks after he finishes in the last. I'll be there to pump the crowd up. And Benny will be launching just after the last race there on Saturday to sign off with a. with a few great dance floor moments.
Speaker 2How good is Ticket Tech? How do we get tickets?
Speaker 25Is it still available at Ticket Tech? Yeah, head to Ticket Tech. You won't get better value than, you know, three group ones. She's alibi. She's alibi. It's great to see Moods and Catherine, Rick Nolan, Jeff O'Connor. They're still part of the Caulfield family. You might not have training there anymore,
Speaker 2but it's great to see them back with a champ.
Speaker 25Who's your tip in the Guineas and the Touareg? I think I'll go wide a little bit, Gareth. I think I'll run along a bit. I'm looking for a couple of horses to blend in and chime in later. I think Von Hawke will outrun his price. It's probably not a group one rating race this year, just on ratings. And I think Von Hawke's a really good genuine group two sort of miler. We saw that at Cox Plate Day last year. So I think Von Hawke will outrun his price. And I think Panova, she knocked off regular award in the Carbine Club last spring. Mile, pressure on. W Pike down the middle of the track. They had to win a group one at Caulfield. I think they'll both outrun their prices. The Guineas, I'm still weighing things up, but I think Tronvold will put the riding on the wall. He worked like a 2,000 metre horse on Tuesday. If they overcook it in front, I think he'd be strong. And I know you're going to cringe, Gareth, but Central Europe's work on Tuesday was winning work. Yes. J-Mac goes on. I think a bit more of a conservative ride, we could see the best of Central Europe. So Central Europe and Tronvold might make a double play in the Guineas.
Speaker 2You don't talk. You don't have to talk me into backing Central Europe. I might have been disappointed the other day, but I still have the faith. And if McDonald's got the faith, I've got the faith. So away we go. We'll butter up once again. It was good work Tuesday, Gareth.
Speaker 25Yeah. It was good work. Yeah, very sharp. And he got around Caulfield superbly.
Speaker 2Yeah, he railed like a greyhound. Hey, Joshy, you've done a wonderful job. The club looked. Like, the grounds looked sensational. The track looked great. Bring on tomorrow, mate. You go and get them. We appreciate your time.
Speaker 25No worries. Happy racing to all the listeners. Go well, Gareth.
Speaker 2Thanks, Joshy. You're one of the great men in racing. And it's time now to wrap it all up on this Friday here on Giddy Apple, thanks to Lilydale Instant Lawn, Australian family-owned quality turf, delivered on time every time our roots run deep. What a night of greyhound racing tonight. Semi-finals of the Million Dollar Chase at Winnie Park Adelaide Cup night. Georgie Farrugia, hello to you. G'day, Gareth. How are you, mate? Good, thank you, mate. I think Jason's there with you as well. He's there in spirit. But how do we make some money tonight with these semi-finals of the Million Dollar
Speaker 26Chase? Yeah, look, the interesting one, Gareth, I think, and we've spoken about it ad nauseam probably, is off the chart. And he's around $2.40 tonight off box one. Interesting to read an article from Connections saying they're not sure box one's too much of an advantage for a greyhound like him. I'm not sure about that. I just think if you can jump cleanly enough and you can hold your position and off you go. He's up against one of the more talented New South Wales greyhounds in Ritz Esophie, and there's nothing separating them. They're separating them at $2.40 and $2.60 in their respective heats. And, of course, as you keep mentioning, Gareth, there's no prizes for second. You have to win or else you're out. The other interesting one is the Victorian Flaming Smooth for Kayla Cottrell, who was really, really good last week. But she's up against Heza Pearl for Jason Thompson, who is one of the pre-post favourites for the race. I'm sort of leaning towards Heza Pearl there. I know Flaming Smooth uses a bit of the track and is probably suited from out there. It's a touch of class there. The other one, obviously, the big one, Ariser Sparkles has come out, Gareth. So Jungle Johnny, even though that's the case, he's gone from $1.40 to $1.55. So he's been on the drift a little bit, probably considering the box draw there, Gareth, and where he's going to sit on that first corner. But the way he's racing at Wentworth Park, you'd think he'd be tough to beat. I think the other Victorian will go well in the last semi-final. That's Storm Hustler. He's a greyhound that has handled himself really well against wrongly accused off the chart. He's against the best and handled himself really, really well. So he's probably my best race, ten, number seven. And we're going to stick with off the chart because we took him at $17 pre-post. So he's where we want to land. Sensational. Who wins the Adelaide Cup? Yeah. Look, it's really hard to go past wrongly accused. As we mentioned on Wednesday, his first split, albeit against one other greyhound, Gareth. So it was a match race. So he had room to move early. But he went 5.12, which is unbelievable. And if he replicates anything like that, I think it'd be hard to beat. The other Victorian, like a rock, he's going places. But you'd think a wrongly accused would be tough to beat. The news came out yesterday, Gareth, that Sportsbet have snapped him up. No, I'm disgusted.
Speaker 2I'm disgusted. I'm so dirty on myself. How dare Sportsbet beat us to that greyhound? I didn't even want to mention it. Molly Haynes broke it to me yesterday. Well done to the Sportsbet team. And I hate, like, they're my great rivals in these slot races. They beat me with, well, she's fast, that day when we had her. We had Jimmy Ennis' horse, Jamie Ennis' horse. What was it? Yeah, he had Emron Boy. Emron Boy. That should have beat them. And they, you know, and I love the Sportsbet team. But, jeez, they beat us again here.
Speaker 26Look, there's a lot of water to go under the bridge. And clearly he's the greyhound that would be in the minds of a lot of slot holders. But there's a lot of good greyhounds in a lot of races to go. So don't lose faith, mate. No. You got Troy Little behind you. I'm sure he'll look after you and try to pick your winner.
Speaker 2Hey, Georgie. I can't wait for the Million Dollar Chase next week. It's going to be great. It'll be on racing.com. We'll have a comprehensive preview as we lead up to that Million Dollar Race on Giddy Up. And then, of course, there's great race in Victoria. Everywhere we look, it's a good time of year.
Speaker 26It is, mate. Looking forward to that. As you said, we'll touch on it all week. Obviously, both of us will be up at Wentworth Park next Saturday in what is promising to be the biggest greyhound crowd we've seen probably in Australia for, I don't know. I mean, I can't go back past my last race. I can't go back past my time. But for decades, there's no doubt about that. They're pushing towards 7,000 people at Wentworth Park where it's been sold out for a couple of weeks.
Speaker 2So it's incredible. Good on you, Georgie. Love your work, mate. Say hello to Jase for us. Have a good week. Have a good weekend, brother. There's Georgie Farrugia. And that wraps up a busy Giddy Up on a Friday. The Friday form panel coming up next on SCN Track, we're going to talk some harness racing. We'll preview that smoking up sprint meeting there at Melton. Bronte Nurenberg will join me. So stay tuned there on SCN Track. They've got their harness show there with Matty Young on SCN Track. On SCN Turf as well there for that Gloucester Park meeting. But thanks for your company as always throughout the week on Giddy Up, especially today on this Friday. And I'll catch you again for another big week and kicking off at Monday at 8 o'clock there for Giddy Up.
