Giddy Up Full Show (30/10/26)

This episode of "Giddy Up with Gareth Hall," aired on Derby Day Eve, Friday the 30th of October, previews one of the biggest weekends in Australian racing. Host Gareth Hall opens by outlining the show's packed schedule, including track updates, expert tipping panels, and an interview with champion trainer Chris Waller, while encouraging listeners to text in with questions and comments. Track curator Liam O'Keefe provides a detailed Flemington update, noting the surface is a Good 4 after measured irrigation, with rain forecast during Saturday's races likely to shift runners off the inside lanes after the first few races. He also confirms rail positions for the upcoming carnival days and offers two local trackwork tips. Form analyst Mark Hunter then works through the Derby Day card race by race, offering selections including The Roaring Sun, Regal Ambition, Meridius, Persian Spirit, St. Gothard, Cormier for the Victoria Derby, Lady Shenandoah, and Flying for Fun. He also shares a staking plan, daily doubles, quaddie, and exactas. Chris Waller discusses his key runners across Flemington and Randwick, expressing measured confidence in Stormy Marco, enthusiasm for St. Gothard's blinkers, and praise for Lady Shenandoah and Autumn Glow. The weekend preview team, featuring Mick Gannon, Zach Tunbridge, Benny Caluzzi, and Dean Watling, closes with a Mega Boost on She's Alibi at $2.50 and a top-four multi priced around $8.55.

Speaker 2Good morning. Yeah, it's great to have your company on this Friday, the 30th of October. It's a big hello to you listening on your local SDN track at RSN 927 Giles. Wherever you may be listening on the SDN and RSN apps, if you're listening to us a little later on, on the podcast or on YouTube, hello to you and watching us on Racing.com. Happy Derby Eve. It doesn't get any better for us racing lovers. It's the best week of the year. And bring it on. We've got a big show coming your way. Mark Hunter with the Hunter's Edge. All the pressure is on him. He's got a big week. He needs to tip us plenty of winners and he'll kick off the show along with Liam O'Keefe with the track update there at Flemington. So we'll run through that Derby card with Mark Hunter to kick it all off. We'll have our mega boost horse and our top four multi just after 9.30 this morning with the weekend preview team. Mickey Gannon's in the studio along with Zach Tunbridge, Benny Caluzzi and Dean Watling. Then, of course, we'll have all of our regulars on a Friday as we try and find you some winners outside of Sydney and Melbourne. So looking forward to catching up with Heath Pope who will analyse the Morfaville meeting. Terry Leighton and Peter Anthonis look at that Ascot meeting. And then Dean Evans, Scotty Amor and Nick Ashman provide us their best bets across this weekend. We'll conclude the show with Josh Roddard from the MRC. We'll find you some winners in the Dogs and the Trots as well. And, of course, just after 9 o'clock, we'll be catching up with the champion trainer, Chris Waller, who will have a host of chances on Derby Day. And, of course, he'll settle up some nice chances there in Sydney as well. You can join our conversation any time you want, 049-736-736 on the Garage Hall. That's 049-736-736. And Giddy Up, as always, is brought to you by Bet365. But let's get stuck into our Friday show.
Speaker 1On Giddy Up, it's time for the Hunter's Edge with Mark Hunter. Hello, Mark. Morning, Gareth.
Speaker 3Morning, all. How are you going? Going well, thanks. How are you? You excited? Yeah, it's a great week, Gareth. It's a hard week. It starts Wednesday when the fields come out. And basically that's it until Stakes Day. I remember I used to, Dino would message me at about quarter past four. We'd both be up working at quarter past four. So long, long hours and hard work.
Speaker 2Yes. And you've walked the track at Flemington. So we'll see what you have to say and what Liam has to say. Because usually you can be on different pages from time to time. You've been to a few different cashier jobs this week. They tell me you're on the circuit everywhere. Unbelievable. Well, Gareth, with what I get paid here, I've got to make up. Well, your ego's out of control. Supplement my income. Your ego's out of control all of a sudden. When you're with half back at RSA in the old days, you didn't really have the ego that you have now. But you're telling everyone in the, what room were you in there at Flemington the other day? I got told by four people you were going that it should be giddy up with Mark Hunter. It's called the hunter's edge, not the hall's edge. And I thought, well, geez, he's out of control. Yeah, you spoke for that long and I respect what you're talking about.
Speaker 3So unbelievable, Mark. You just concentrate on getting Zura pronounced right.
Speaker 2Which one? Zura. Which one? Oh, yes.
Speaker 3Give me Zura.
Speaker 2Yeah, it was a good one. What'd you call it yesterday? He was a good cricketer, wasn't he? I don't know. I never, did you, did you know he played cricket? Yes, everyone did. Who for? WA. He never played test cricket, did he? Oh, so he did. No, he didn't. No. So he did. We'll have to look that up. His name didn't change. Liam O'Keefe, have you seen a change in Mark Hunter's ego over the last 12 months? As I say hello to you.
Speaker 4Yeah, he's pretty confident, isn't he? He springs right in handy. Yeah, hang on. I'm coming to Mark, he aims to join. Yeah, he does.
Speaker 3I've got one for Liam in a minute too, don't worry. Why? Wait till he's finished, I've got one for him.
Speaker 2My mail is that you walked off like a sook there the other day, because you were walking the track and your stick broke, and so you threw it away. Liam had to pick it up and then get his mates to put it together again, and you just walked off and said, that's it, I've had enough. Is that true? Can you confirm or deny those rumours? No, well, the stick broke, I wouldn't say there was a tantrum. Yes, there was. Was there a tantrum, Liam?
Speaker 4Yeah, it nearly falls in the tantrum category.
Speaker 2Yes, yes. But it's fixed now, so you walked the track. Before I get Liam's thoughts, I want to get your thoughts. Track's in good shape.
Speaker 3Even across. Where do we want to be? Even across, Gareth.
Speaker 2Yeah, where do we want to be, Mark?
Speaker 3There's a bit of wear and tear from Cox Plate Day, which Liam will tell you on the inside lanes, that should, depending on the rain, that should hold up certainly early, but if it rains, that won't hold up for too long. So, boy, after about two or three races, I would think they are edging away from the
Speaker 2inside. Yep. So, you want to be getting on the track? Getting off the fence, you reckon?
Speaker 3Well, it depends on the rain. There is wear, because they obviously galloped on it last week, first time they've had the meeting in true leading into Derby Day. So, there's wear on the inside, as Liam, I'm sure, will say, that wear will chop out if we get a bit of rain on the track and a bit of traffic on the track, that will chop out. I'd say after about race, I think, the first three around a bend. So, after race three, I'd be looking to be off the fence. All right, then.
Speaker 2Liam, do you agree?
Speaker 4Yeah, pretty similar. Obviously, with the rain around tomorrow during the races, once that does fall into areas where you have raced on, it gives away a lot quicker. So, if the forecast is fine tomorrow, there'd be minimal irrigation going on, and I'd expect it to hold up for most of the day. But given there is five mil of rainfall forecast throughout the day, I think once we run those circle course races, the first three, I'd probably look to edge off after that.
Speaker 2It's difficult, isn't it, for you? Because you've got to work out, do you water or not, with the rain predicted on race day?
Speaker 4Yeah, that's right. With the forecast for tomorrow's rain, I definitely didn't want to water tonight. So, we watered last night. It presents really nice this morning, just a nice good four. It's top of 26 today, with some northerlies in the morning. So, I had to make sure that I didn't have it rock hard, because if we missed the rain, it would have been too firm for racing. So, we had an each-way bet, put on four mil last night, and that just keeps it ticking over till tomorrow. It'll probably be on the better side of a four, heading towards a three before the rainfall. So, that's about where we want to be. We want to have it.
Speaker 2It's exciting, mate. So, we've got the rail out three metres for Melbourne Cup day. Have you worked out where the rail will be on Oaks day and also on Champions day?
Speaker 4Yeah, most likely we'll go to six for Oaks day and then nine for Champions day. They're the two traditional spots for those race days. We're a little bit hamstrung with field sizes and things. We can't play around with it too much.
Speaker 2We just lost him there a little bit. Yeah, I think he's got a call. Someone's calling right now. There he goes. But it looks like it's going to be in pretty good shape.
Speaker 3I ran into a mate of his at a function yesterday. Yeah, yeah. And he's had a few drinks under his belt. He probably said what he shouldn't have said. What did he say? And you're going to repeat it on the show? 100%. He said, you know what Liam calls himself? Because Liam's referred, you know, the track Flemington's referred to as the best track in Victoria.
Speaker 2Yeah, yeah. He's the track curator of the year in Australia.
Speaker 3And the bloke said, you know what Liam refers to himself as? He said, no. And he said, the colonel. Because he's got the secret herbs and spices that makes the track the best in Australia. So, Colonel O'Keefe. It could be from now on. Hey, Colonel O'Keefe, is that true?
Speaker 4No, that is not true. Your mate put you right in yesterday.
Speaker 2So, Colonel, so the rail, just explain where the rail is Thursday and Saturday, Saturday week.
Speaker 4So, we'll go three for Cup Day, six for Oaks Day. And then out nine for Champions Day. And we can run full fields with those rail moves.
Speaker 2What about wind conditions tomorrow? Will that play a part? I still remember the day that Pride of Jenny won her first Empire Rose and it was a southerly and it threw everyone out. Jockeys, punters, no one had a clue what was going on.
Speaker 4Yeah, interesting wind tomorrow. It's from the northwest above that 20 kilometres early. And then it swings around to a westerly. So, northwest is a headwind around the home turn. So, you might see riders. For those first three circle course races, look for a little bit of cover. And then in the straight course racing, it's basically a headwind. So, maybe by the Coolmore, they might look for a little bit of cover up the straight.
Speaker 2It's going to be an interesting day. We'll be on Weather Watch as we seem to be every Saturday these days. Liam, have you got a winner for us?
Speaker 4I've got two, Gareth. Yes. St. Gossards in the Coolmore and then in the Wakeful, I think it's called Wafer. It's the local track work mail.
Speaker 2Okay. What prices are we getting there for those two horses there? St. Gossards has been heavily supported. The blinkers go on. So, obviously, the Spies have been out in force there at Flemington. I've heard really good things about that Galloper as well for Coolmore. We'll see what Mark Hunter has to say there a little later on. I think you mean… Farwa. Farwa. Yep. That's the Chris Waller. Farwa, that's it. That's the filly for Chris Waller in the Wakeful. And she's at a good each way price at $10. I love it.
Speaker 4Beautiful. That'll do.
Speaker 2You go and get them. And, Colonel, we appreciate your time as always. Thank you, sir. He loves that, Liam. He loves that. I can't believe you throw your mates under the bus like that, Mark. Well, the bloke shouldn't have told me. You know, I talk to Mark Hunter like a bit on the phone, all right? And so, I'm talking to him about three times this week. You're talking to him for a minute or so, two minutes. Mid-conversation, he goes, I've got to go. I've got to go. Mark Sarr is ringing me.
Speaker 3Gareth, there's a batting order.
Speaker 2Yeah, well, we know. who's at the top of the batting order. Never call us again, please. Never in your life. You're the night watchman. yes let's get my poor old spud um let's let's get stuck into this flemington card i love derby days where would it rate amongst your favorite days it's my favorite day yeah it's a great day it's
Speaker 3um as you i hear you often say when you walk in the gates at flemington there's nothing like it and it's a real pity the i think the rain's forecast to start at eight so you love seeing the crowd out in the lawn enjoying the sun all dressed up tomorrow hopefully the rain doesn't
Speaker 2spoil it i got my good luck hat on my grandpa gave me this part bob yep um hasn't let me down yet i don't wear it very often but hopefully this week's my week mark i need it flemington race one um this is the carbine club stakes dominated by one man really in chris waller and he's got three strong chances here unhinged at 340 james mcdonald rides i wonder if j mac got the choice here high falls is at five dollars conquer the world at six dollars the roaring sun 750 star of massachusetts at nine glenorky at 11 mr wicket whiskers who was strong there the other day to lead all the way at 12 dollars fast freddy at 17 strong tempo at 26 um and then big prices for the rest now i have got a lot of feedback here um zura did play cricket for australia yeah he was a very good cricket a very underrated wicket keeper there you go he's at 51 dollars
Speaker 3i think chris waller will dominate again i've actually tipped him one two three i like number 10 the roaring sun this will be my first bet for the day i think this horse it's your perfect carbine club horse we saw last year panova come from the back run regal award down i like when he puts d lane on his mouth when j mac's not riding them i like when he chooses d lane to ride them and he's riding the roaring sun it's a horse that will balance up two-thirds of the way back we see a lot of carbine clubs won by that style of horse it's got the sarah fox form on debut which is certainly measures up to this grade had a spell came back and gave a big start to graffiti tycoon that horses run in four super maidens and run favorite pretty well every time and roaring sun and glenorky come down the outside nearly reeled it in so i think it's ready for the mile blends into the race in the three wide train let rip down the middle i think it's a great bet the roaring sun to beat six glenorky who's got your tron bolt form from the queensland campaign come back from a spell ram well i just think the roaring sun might have more improvement too unhinged it's an interesting one it's it looked like more of a more of an on-speed grinding you know a good horse but somewhat limited horse they've ridden it back its last two it's gone a stack better now draws gate two for jmax so where he settles on it i'm not sure but does appear better ridden cold and of the locals i think number nine conquer the world's a really nice horse went to the front of cramburn just sailed away kept getting stronger through the line certainly more depth to this race but a lovely horse so i think 10 i think 10 is a terrific bet each way 10 6 2 and 9 so i think 10 i think 10 is a terrific bet each way 10 6 2 and 9 so i think 10 i think 10 is a terrific bet each way 10 6 2 and 9
Speaker 2so 7 50 there with a bet 3 6 5 he was around 25 i think at the start of the week i guess you never
Speaker 3know where his horses are going yeah that would pull
Speaker 2you up there um he surprised high falls as the second favorite after its dominant warnable victory there last
Speaker 3start yes i am i backed the horses yesterday who came second and third to high falls they both ran okay but that neither of them ran a place so okay little query on the form coming into a race like the carbine club so
Speaker 2if you're shane jackson and jerry ryan you would go to phlegmy
Speaker 3and tuesday i don't know the field for tuesday but no this is a pretty tough race all right then
Speaker 2um strong tempo it's got to run the
Speaker 3trip i'm not sure it will it hasn't been super strong through the line i think this is a much harder race has to go back we'll run on but i thought had to task you've been a fan of star of mastodon before i think that yeah it's a nice horse i think that corfield race is not a strong race it ran well against the pattern was the best run in the race ran well against the pattern look it wouldn't shock me if it won but i think more of a place chance against these waller horses
Speaker 2you'll have to keep an eye um and on the vrc um app and website regarding the wind conditions but if it is a northwesterly and you're looking for some cover will there be enough pace in the race
Speaker 3here yeah there will be because well depending if a horse like fast freddy i don't know if that horse will run from the outside gate so mr whiskers is usually a bit tardy away you'll boot up and lead and two's max got speed as well if fast freddy runs they have to go forward so the ones in front mr whiskers is a handy horse i'd be surprised if two's mac could win so they should come back to the field i wouldn't be worried by a wind or a pattern or
Speaker 2anything for race one um glenn orkey's um richie robertson's just identified um just um text me saying it's a suburb of hobart of course yeah
Speaker 3someone i think the caller called it glenn orchy
Speaker 2yeah glenn orkey real wrong working class suburb there in tasmania um the glenn orkey football club is where peter hudson played rodney eade i think rodney yeah there you go i think um the vanity over the 1400 meters for the phillies this is a good little race um i think there was a lot of people that were really confident on regal ambition despite her dropping back from 1600 to 1400 believe she could be the best of the day some say she could be the best for the week but we were talking to tom charlton i heard john o'shea on rsn this morning as well with lizzie and maddie she's there bullish about pinup sheila so regal ambition 230 with bet 365 has been clearly the best backed but they're not going to be the best for the week so i think it's going to be a good one we are backing pinup sheila at 460 imari at 650 afari at 9 blue dream at 13 and then autumn lover at 23 has had a little bit of backing at a big price here mark hunter i think there are
Speaker 3only two hopes gareth one and four i'll be pretty confident regal ambition is the best filly in the race and she probably wins she has to come back from the mile probably the one question i've got she only had three runs back from a spell but how many hard runs can a horse have now because she always falls out the gate so she'll be the best for the week so i think it's going to be a good last again here she falls out the gates she has to work to get into the race she has to surge and surge again she has a tough run pretty well every time she goes around so the only query i've got she's had three tough runs how long can she keep going if she runs to her best she probably picks them up number four pinup sheila is certainly a danger not much went right first up pretty well had a bowl around behind him went to the red jail and i think they rode to beat the favorite there sorted out the gates put into a spot came wide early a little bit of a flat spot beyond the reef was too good down the outside i think here from perfect barrier probably parks fifth or six comes out it's got them all covered i think in front of it and around it it will just have to hold off regal ambition so one of the two will win if regal ambition runs to its best and hasn't had enough i think it'll win but pinup sheila is certainly a danger
Speaker 2so one and four but keen on regal ambition um from a percentage perspective here with this filly there's what 13 in the race is she's back last over 1400 meters like what price can you
Speaker 3take then it's not easy because she's gonna be last and he's got to get himself into the three wide train and be winding up and probably put her into the race a little bit early so she's gonna have a flat spot at some stage look she's got better forms the thousand guineas form is much better form than all these others pinup sheila is the danger and the rest will fall away to being bush maidens or you know promising horses but haven't proven at the level so she probably still wants them up but that is the worry for me just a few things how many tough runs fall out to go to be last back to 14. she's probably well enough found in the market
Speaker 217 minutes past eight this is giddy up in the hunter's edge all thanks to chaos great to have your company we'll take a break on the other side of it we'll preview the wakeful stakes for the three-year-old fillies over the 2000 meters on derby day join
Speaker 1the conversation text us on 736 736 live across Australia this is giddy up with Gareth hall welcome back to giddy up this is
Speaker 2a hunter's Edge all thanks to Kia win big with Kia's Premiership offers on the ev3 and ev5 visit your local dealer today and the Kia Seltos hybrid it's available now find out more at kia.com.au now um races one two and three on derby date Flemington of course with bet365 if your runner does it when you receive a bonus bet back that's right miss the winner and you'll receive a bonus bet back head to the rewards page in your bet365 app to opt in eligible customers only terms and conditions apply what are you really gambling with for free and confidential support visit gambling help online.org.au let's have a look at the wakeful stakes over the 2000 meters for the three-year-old fillies this is the lead-up race um for most of these fillies anyway heading towards the vrc Oaks on Thursday ice lady's the favorite for Ma and Zara at three dollars the armors 380 has been heavily supported Chris Waller and Blake Shin combined your color at 8.50 far at ten dollars fringilla at 13 sumac at 15. onglay 19 and then big prices for the rest of these fillies what do you make of this year's wakeful
Speaker 3mark I think four main hopes three one eleven and five I'm gonna tip number three diamis who has had the two runs now at a mile they punched it forward in the thousand guineas I just don't think it ever he basically couldn't steer it because I'm one rain the whole way had a lot against it and held its ground well up the straight I think here nice little quiet ride 567 somewhere there behind the speed blend into the race I think the armor says got a great chance it should run the 2000 strongly to beat one ice lady I think the key to ice lady is leading because she wants to hang in in the straight she led she beat saintly dancer two ago didn't lead last time couldn't beat saintly dancer I think if she had led that race she would have won you watch her lay in there she's got Churchill's drawn outsider who's the other leader so i think zara will be positive he'll want to dictate and keep the horse so if it doesn't hang in it doesn't matter it doesn't have to stop riding then the two waller horses that i think are going to be best suited thursday in the oaks 11 thawa and five your color there were similar runs last time thawa went back and wide your color picked its way through the field i thought thawa was stronger over the line so at this early stage it's the oaks horse i'm looking at coming out of this race as having the best chance so three one eleven and five
Speaker 2so you'd be backing thawa for the oaks or they can't beat that sydney philly oh no
Speaker 3they're very competitive with the sydney
Speaker 2philly you reckon yeah yeah yeah yep yep they'll be very competitive okay so you think that that sydney philly who is currently right now i'm just having a look um proximate day at two dollars we bet three six five so you think
Speaker 3that's too short well proximate day if you take a line through the gloaming voyner cheese proximate day i won that race voyner cheese was only second a two point three lengths then ran pretty well in the ethereal last time on the quick backup at caulfield so i don't think there's a hell of a lot between the sydney form and the melbourne form and i think thou was you can't run much better than what it did at caulfield leading into an oak so back i think they're right on quietly tomorrow back finish off if they win they win they want them feeling good going into thursday i think thou has got a great chance in
Speaker 2what about on glaze he's a philly by zoo side nick ryan he was he was pretty pretty bullish about her chances there yesterday he's following the strictly business campaign when you made it at ballarat on the 23rd of october and be competitive and awake for then
Speaker 3try and win the oaks yeah well she's had the two goes at 14 so she's probably more ready to jump to 2000 but the blinkers on last time as horses can do she fell out the gates but was just far too good so she certainly wouldn't shock me she was strong through the line this is a much harder race and obviously you've got a 600 meter jump in distance but she wouldn't shock me all right then
Speaker 2um ice lady gets a soft lead well it should
Speaker 3unless willow's hellbent on leading on churchill rose there doesn't look to be that much other pressure there's a few inside that would like to box seat but not leaders i would think he's a brilliant front running rider mark so he'll just look to go forward lay on its neck like he did an observer control the race give the kick and hopefully ice lady can hang on yeah the big day this
Speaker 2time last year sorry he was at his best wasn't he he was yeah let's have a look at race number four and this is the rising fast and this is a ripper um you'll have 20 horses galloping down the straight here at flemington mark it's going to be a lot of fun to watch i'm just having a look at the market here um hanky alpha at 4.20 with the 20 saddlecloth napoleonic 480 this has got to been a good go on the kiwi or the former kiwi sways and day at ten dollars golden strand ten dollars king sephora at eleven gallant sun at twelve dollars peter moody made this horse he's play with he's a one hundred dollar staking plan yesterday on giddyup the dollar at fifteen meridius at twenty to one grand larceny at twenty six grand impact at twenty six hedge at twenty nine disney at twenty nine the bergerac at thirty four the cosmic one is a big price according to the south australians and travis stouter was confident when i had a chat to him on south australian time there yesterday on giddyup at 34 and then jenny the fox at 50 to 1 watch me win at 60 to 1. some good horses at a big price here mark look it's
Speaker 3a very tough race gareth it's dependent on conditions as well it's a race where i would rather be drawn wide than in a lot of the speed is out wide so that's where i want to be drawn now having said that if this got to a soft six off seven i'd be confident hanky alpha wins so i think it's a an absolutely superior wet tracker but we haven't got those conditions yet so add a bit of odds i'll tip number eight meridius who i think is a very good horse fresh i think it's trolling really well without the blinkers i think it will be suited by the fast tempo it's massive odds it'll come to the outside sit midfield and i think meridius can run very well 10 golden strand never runs badly drawn for a great run for d lane four and dollar it's a harder race magnificent ride last time i just love wearing dollars drawn to be out wide following the speed and number 20 hanky elf here it's got a little chance you imagine we'd be on a soft five at least if it gets worse it would be it would become top pick hedged on the other hand if we get a dry track hedges right in the race if it gets too wet it's in trouble so eight ten four twenty and one all
Speaker 2right then so if we want to back meridius what ground do we need to back him with some confidence
Speaker 3you wouldn't want too wet it has handled wet in the past i think that race that aft cabin won at caulfield remember you couldn't even see the horses ran pretty well in that race but i would be more confident between around about a soft five soft six at worst is mark
Speaker 2giving you a good push for meridius i haven't asked him okay um so there's a few other questions here gallant sun moods was
Speaker 3confident what's drawn down low which is not easy in this sort of race it's got speed but it's got a couple outside of that are going to keep it closer to the inside or middle which is not easy um so that just makes it that bit harder can be the difference between winning and running 10th where you are in the straight
Speaker 2napoleonic not good enough to make your top five oh is it any good well it's okay it's probably got better better form lines than
Speaker 3meridius finished alongside gigi's mistruth
Speaker 2last time i know but you're being a bit harsh on her she's a group one winner terrible up the
Speaker 3straight napoleonic was very very basic now it's got the blinkers going on its best form could win i want to see napoleonic do it if it wins good luck yep grand larceny 1200 meters i think i was disappointed with that first up run i thought it would go much better off its trials i don't think it's at its very best at 1200 meters it does race well down the straight but i thought 1200 might
Speaker 2test it swain's day a few of the kiwis are tipping this horse it's got a
Speaker 3chance good good for the archibald's first up you go back to new zealand it beat home hanky alfred in a race there i wouldn't say hanky alford was given the best ride swain's day has drawn an awkwardish gate down the middle so it just needs to find the right spot
Speaker 2a couple of forces we've seen before down the straight to bergerac and also king sepha i was i
Speaker 3thought the bergerac could win or at least run a place last time it was just it wasn't given a great ride it was the worst part of the track now it's drawn barrier two it's a good straight horse but i would think barrier two virtually rules it out the
Speaker 2cosmic one's a great story the son of cosmic force he was retired for 20 minutes travis dow just couldn't get him right and then he found the key to him and now he's just unbeatable obviously he's got to step up once again but um he said that you would make sure that you need to respect this horse the cosmic one come saturday yeah don't
Speaker 3disagree it's out in the best part of the track it's obviously a harder race but it's in fantastic form it would go in an early quality for
Speaker 2sure so who had better form for instance hanky alpha before her victory at flemington with her new zealand form or the cosmic one with his adelaide form
Speaker 3oh i know hanky alpha had better form over in new zealand if you take a line through swain's day hanky alpha had better
Speaker 2form there let's have a look at race number five and this is the damien olive over the 1400 meters um and we've got a couple of scratchings here pericles is in sydney and estremo the emergency comes out as well so um we've got warning at five dollars but he gets an inside gate persian spirit at six dollars to party at seven private eye at seven fifty king separate nine hughes at ten dollars war machine at thirteen and then big prices for the rest um they're backing desert lightning forty one dollars into nineteen dollars with bet three six five mark
Speaker 3look he's not a horse of mine but he's getting out to 1400 meters he's got some chance so it's an impossible race and conditions are crucial i'll go with number 12 persian spirit who's raced itself back into form i think it's drawn a beautiful gate to park just behind the speed do no work and we'll look the winner at the 300 give you a great site seven coat at antique we'll have to go back from that gate and need luck if they're running on by now which i think they will be a little bit of jar out the track with the insides off it's got a good value chance five warning he's got a great up warning but he's got barrier one he's going to be buried midfield you'd think the fence would be suspect by now and elevenster party's got a terrific chance he probably wouldn't want it too wet so i'll go i think 12 is the one it's guaranteed to get the good run from the barrier and give you a great sight twelve seven five eleven so but you're
Speaker 2having lunch here uh yeah i
Speaker 3wouldn't bet i won't be betting um
Speaker 2there's a few horses i need to ask you about we've got a slot in the supernova so we'll be keeping you close on this race we might be able to identify one hopefully i think i nearly got one for the media right um what about a horse like holly man's on a wet track what's getting
Speaker 3fit out you think it would need another run it didn't do enough first up you think i would be surprised if it could jump from what it did first up to be winning this race
Speaker 2well if it rains that's what
Speaker 3you're hanging your head on it's trailed okay i would be surprised if it wins first
Speaker 2up you think private eyes seen better days obviously
Speaker 3i think he's going okay he's going honestly but i don't think he's going as well as he was 12 months ago he's got a chance he's never he wouldn't want a stack of rain are we giving up on recon well went forward last time which was uncharacteristic went forward looked a good chance of the 200 just got run down i assume they wrote it like that and it ran well so they'll probably write it the same way which is not easy from barrier 16.
Speaker 2what race will graham be running if king seffa gets a
Speaker 3start uh i would think a 1400 meter race that would be my first choice could he win that he could he could he could be in that he doesn't want too much rain but he could be in that three wide train blending in he could win for sure explain the money for desert lightning well i guess up in trip to the 400 meters you know it's a good wood winner um And they won that race. Its best form is competitive. So $41 was probably just big overs.
Speaker 2Yeah, what about War Machine?
Speaker 3Had the most magnificent run last time and got the job done. It's hard to see how it gets that run again from the barrier. It's got a chance. Look, there's not a lot between a lot of these horses.
Speaker 2A few of those horses that we just had a chat about will go to Perth as well for railway stakes. So it's an important race because these horses haven't finished yet for the Spring Carnival. So you're with 12, 7, 5 and 11 each way all day there for the Warrnambool Galloper. No, not each way all day. It's got a good each way chance. Each way chance. All right, then. Then if it's not each way all day, then what is it then?
Speaker 3Well, you've got to stop betting by about 3 o'clock. It's not all day.
Speaker 2It's about 3 o'clock. Yeah, well, it's just a saying. What's your favourite saying in racing, Mark? The more you put on, the more you get back. Yes. Gamble responsibly. 1-800-858-858. 32 minutes past date. Time for a break. We're going to come back and have a look at the first, the group ones. It's the Cornwall Stud Stakes for the three-year-olds down that straight.
Speaker 1Text us on 0499 736 736. Live across Australia. This is Giddy Up with Gareth Hall.
Speaker 5150 leads by a length. Four Melody is trying hard to pick up Invincible Star. It's Invincible Star. Merchant Navy's flashing. Invincible Star holding on. Invincible Star. Invincible Star. Merchant Navy drives and got up. Right on the line.
Speaker 2Merchant Navy. That was the day Mark Hunter made at least half a million dollars. Well done, Mark. One of your greatest ever days.
Speaker 3It was great, Gareth. I didn't go. I stayed home and worked. Why? Well, you didn't go to Ascot.
Speaker 2You don't deserve to have a good horse if you did that then. I didn't go to Ascot either to watch it when it won.
Speaker 3Okay. No, I stayed home. Spud came around and we watched him in my office as I worked on form for Cup Day.
Speaker 2Who's your favourite horse? Super Seth or. Super Seth. Or Merchant Navy. Super Seth. There you go. I had a bigger share. Okay. Race six, the Cornwall Stud stakes over the 1,200 metres. So much on the line here. These Colts win. They're worth anything. The Phillies, it's a big race for them. It's a good day for the gelding as well, but not as good as a day. Good a day for those Colts. I don't think any day is a good day for a gelding. No. Well, yes, that's a good point you make. You would know. Let's have a look at the market. Let's have a look at the market here with Bet365. And I reckon this market will be decided on the weather, Mark. I reckon the next episode, if the rain comes, he'll start favourite at 380. And if the rain doesn't come, I reckon there's a strong possibility with the blinkers on that St. Gothard might start favourite. Looking at the money now for St. Gothard, he's 460. Zitono Glow at $5. Natural Fling at $8. Pembrey at $11. Under Focus at $16. Paradoxium at $17. Doubt Time at $21. And Booba at $26. Steel Wheel at $46. 40 to 1. The Machine Gun at $51. Alibaba at $61. Marfiano at $61. And then Stretton Rule as the Outsider at $100 to 1.
Speaker 3I think the three hopes are the three obvious. 5, 1, 13. I'm going to go number 5, St. Gothard. I'm just thinking the blinkers might make the horse explode. Happy to think the Warwoven form is as good as any form in the race. Ramwell in the Runder Rose. Got involved in that little bumping duel in the Golden Rose. Warwoven was far too good. Now, he gets the blinkers. They were listed as going on October 20. So, it's trialed since without them. I haven't seen it in blinkers. Did you watch track work on Tuesday? You can watch that. Okay. Well, I think it will park just behind them. The speed, probably 5th or 6th, 7th, somewhere there. And I reckon it will be super strong at $1,200 and banking on the blinkers. Making a difference. It's got to have to win. Won the next episode. If you look at the barrier draw, you think it's a perfect draw following Paradoxium. A couple of pairs back. As you say, a wet track would be no worries. Just has to tick the $1,200 box. But the way it got through the line last time shouldn't be an issue. And 13, Cetano Glow. I think it's got the worst barrier draw of the three favourites. Malum's drawn down in four, which is not good. He's going to have to get his way across, get to the right spot, be in the right part of the track to let rip. It's flown down the straight. I don't know the Paradoxium forms as strong as the other four minds coming into the race. But it's been super impressive every time. It can do no wrong. No more. It runs 1,200 strongly. Just needs a bit of luck from that barrier. So I'll go 5, 1 and 13.
Speaker 2So 5, 1 and 13 in the Coolmore. If Jason Collett can rate Paradoxium, can he win?
Speaker 3He'll give you a good sight. If you look through Paradoxium's form, I wonder if 1,000 to 1,100 is its best distance. It did beat Stretton Ruler up there in Sydney. But I would say it was getting tired over the line when it won down the straight at Flemington, beating Mbube. I wouldn't say it was roaring through the line. I've got a feeling that it's a bit 1,000 to 1,100-meter horse. But if it gets in front and gets a soft enough run, it's going to be there for a long way. Natural fling in Pembrey? I don't think Pembrey's in the equation at all. Okay. I just don't think it's good enough. Natural fling has got to run 1,200 meters. It's got a barrier draw to come and park just behind the speed. I just think 1,200 meters, the others might be stronger. She's a very good filly, and she'll run well. But I thought over 1,200, the others might be stronger.
Speaker 2A few people are tipping me Doubt Time.
Speaker 3Doubt Time's a really good horse, gets the blinkers on. It was a little bit flattering in the Dane Hill because it was in the best part of the track. Others weren't. They were staggering down in the worst ground, so it ran on well. It's a good horse, Doubt Time, and it could be in the right line again. I just think the others are more brilliant at 1,200 meters than Doubt Time.
Speaker 2Can they win yes or no in the Coolmore Stud Stakes? Number one, the next episode. Yes. Two, Paradoxium. I'm going to say no. Three, Alibaba. No. Four, Stretton. Stretton Ruler. No. Five, St. Gothard. Yes. Six, Marfiano. No. Seven, Under Focus.
Speaker 3A very good horse, but barrier one, so no. Eight, Steel Wheel. Good bet for top six, but I'm going to say no. Nine, Mbube. 1,200 meters, I'm going to risk it, no. Ten, the Machine Gun. This is a good horse, the Machine Gun, but from barrier two, I can't see how it wins, no.
Speaker 211, Doubt Time.
Speaker 3I'm going to say no.
Speaker 212, Natural Fling.
Speaker 3I'm going to say no.
Speaker 213, Suetono Glow. Yes. 14, Pembrey. No. Let's look at the Coolmore. Stud Stakes. We'll take a break. On the other side of it, we'll have a look at the How to Victoria Derby. Mark Hunter is with me, of course, for the Hunter's Edge because that's why we call it the Hunter's Edge. And we're up to having. a look at the Victoria Derby. And we've bet $3.65. It's an interesting market here because the barrier draw has made it really interesting for this $3 million Victoria Derby. Stormy Marco is now the favourite at $4.60. Cormier, the other Sydney horse who's drawn better, is easy in the market now after being favourite yesterday. It's out to $5. True Rebel, $8.50. Kingsnitz, $12. Mershidi, the Geelong Classic winner at $12. Vallis at $13. ICU at $13. Skure at $15. Signetti at $15. True Tone at $19. Quick finish, the filly takes her place in the Derby at $19. Russian Rock at $26. Rittered Empire at $34. Cold Shower at $60-1. King Winston at $60-1. And then $100-1 for Meet the Prince. And locked in here, Mark Hunter.
Speaker 3No real idea, Gareth. Look, if you take a line through Voynichese in the Gloaming, who ran well, and that's the Cormier-Stormy Marco race, there is. There's very little between the Sydney form and the Melbourne form. I'm going to tip number one, Cormier. I wouldn't say I was buoyed by the trainer's interview yesterday.
Speaker 2Well, basically, he said. What do I think he'd run last? Yeah, he said, if you missed that interview with Paul Massara, he said, Gareth, I'm not quite sure about the backup. It's been a complete afterthought. He had a tough run there last week. He's pulled up okay, but I'm not quite sure. And I'm more hopeful than confident. And then he drifted to the second favourite straight after that interview.
Speaker 3Well, Cormier's met Stormy Marco four times and beaten it four times. I don't think Cormier is a leader. It's been leading, and I don't think that's its go. It's got horses to follow here. It's got a good barrier. I think it can park somewhere fifth or sixth, do no work. There's very little between these. So it's going to be the horse that's had the best run of the 200 that's got any carrots left can win the race. So I'll go with Cormier to get every chance and maybe win a wide-open derby to Stormy Marco. Draw him wide, has to go back, get a track into the race. look it's racing okay it doesn't look like there's not much class in this derby and it fits the mold perfectly it's got a chance what does he have to go back where's he gonna go you can try and slot in somewhere that's what he does but he's got a lot of others looking for the same if you do if any horse does too much work here at 2500 they won't finish the race uh third pick number seven skewer i think will try and lead it's got quick finish to compete for the lead but i think it'll try and lead i think we'll try and run them along it's best run was probably on that wet track three ago where it was wide had no right to keep coming but kept coming so if they get rain that's a good hope six valis around the mark he'll ride it well he'll tuck it away somewhere do no work and produce at the right time and four king snits who was too good for them last time looks like it's getting better with racing goes forward gets a great run for d lane looks like it'll stay the trip has got a chance so without any confidence at all um everyone wanted to
Speaker 2tip me russian rock there the other day he was smashed at caulfield now you're getting 26 for him really good
Speaker 3two starts ago on that run you think it's building towards a derby perfectly last time missed the kick and then sort of revved up a bit on the inside which is never a great recipe then the dash for home it just held its ground look with a quiet ride mickey d on the run two ago it would be a chance but that last run is a little concerned no love
Speaker 2for true rebel
Speaker 3i don't think it'll run the trip and the barrier draws made it really tough it was it was given a beautiful ride this last week it was out of chocolates on the line it's got to go an extra 500 and it hasn't drawn barrier one to do no work so it's got a task don't love that
Speaker 2classic form obviously machine's not in your top four
Speaker 3no five they're all competitive they're all competitive like icu lines up with those other races with most of these horses so the geelong classic form it's got it's got a lot of fun i think it's got a lot of fun i think it's got a lot of it's got a chance it's got a wide gate it will need luck machete but it wouldn't shock me heartbroken to see hierarchy out with the temperature you would have nearly tipped him wouldn't you on the two tips for hierarchy and call me here hierarchy got scratched and call me here that interview left me with depression so i didn't know where to
Speaker 2go they tell me paul massara does play it down however
Speaker 3so let's hope so let's have
Speaker 2a look at can they win or can't they win in this year's victoria derby with mark hunter number one call me here yes two stormy marco yes three true rebel i'll go no four king snits yes five machete i'll go no six fellas yes seven skua yes eight signetti yes nine icu i'll go no 10 true tone i'll go no 12 written empire 13 russian rock i'll go no 14 cold shower no 15 king winston no 16 quick finish um i'll go no 17 meet the prince no and then 18 locked in no let's look at the victoria derby on the other side of it we'll have a look at the final of the group ones there at flemington tomorrow it's the empire rose for the mares join the conversation

Speaker 2welcome back to giddy up this is the hunter's edge all things to care the key is health is hybrid available now find out more at care.com slash au don't forget we've bet 365 this weekend in races one two and three on derby day at flemington if your runner doesn't win you'll receive a bonus bet back that's right miss the winner and you'll receive a bonus bet back head to the rewards page in your bet 365 app to opt in eligible customers only terms and conditions apply what are you really gambling with for free and confidential support visit gamblinghelponline.org.au just after 9 30 we've got a special mega boost horse today with the weekend preview team plus we're going to bounce back after getting three out of four and i'll take the blame i stuffed up last week with the giddy up weekend preview top four multi um it was hard to take mark i let a lot of people down light of a tree man yeah you knew your fate early yeah all right then let's have a look at the empire rose lady shenandoah is nice and short she's at 2.50 um and she's been well supported as well depending on who you ask like gator says that she's probably the one to beat but he can't back her at that price and a few others that i talked to say that she's just a good thing at 2.50 and expect her to start shorter surf and bird 4.60 concord conning at 5.50 unleashing at 8.50 idle flyer at 10 sass appeal at 16 salty pearl at 20 to 1 and silica at 40 to 1 here mark i think
Speaker 3she's good odds gareth lady shenandoah i think she will win i don't think there's another horse in this race who could carry 58 in a two rack and win which is a good idea i think she's a good idea i think she's a good idea she did she said she got a peach well she still had to carry 58 and run down changing colors with 52 she she's had three goes at the mile she won the flight stakes a three-year-old easily she got beaten by auto flyer but that day j mac punched her forward she chased the jenny speed and she was left a sitting shot for idle flyer and then the two racks so there are three goes at the mile a soft track would be no worries she ran well in a heavy 10 on debut she's run the russell boarding on a soft seven she's got a little awkward gate that's her issue she's got horses like concord connie and idle flyer drawn inside her who are probably looking for similar spots so you wouldn't want her doing too much work at the mile if she can just slot in midfield or somewhere like that i'll be very surprised if she's just not the winner uh placings that come from three surf and bird who is getting better and better with racing beautiful ride last time just let astral flame control the race in front so jordy charles just had the race under control the whole way booted clear held off buckaroo which is good form she's got a bit more pressure for the top here to idle flyer came into this race last year was heavily backed came in in much better form i thought was just ridden completely upside down in this race last year and dropped out not sure how she's going she's been given some pretty ordinary rides the last run was good but i don't know she's at her absolute top that's the query
Speaker 2how do you ride it quite
Speaker 3i think you have to yeah look i don't that looks like they're not sure what to do whether to ride it forward whether i'd back what distance to run her over well
Speaker 2you'll tell mark to ride a quiet obviously that's what
Speaker 3i would recommend it's not up to me that's what i would recommend and fourth pick number five unleashing who you get a bit of a line through the form through pillow fight i've seen pillow fight against sass appeal hit down here before it's flying unleashing it'll sit back and probably track lady shenandoah one of them into the race and be steaming home but this is a harder race at the same weight as lady shenandoah i think she's got the edge so i think one's a good thing tempo in this race tempo in this race well you had salty pearl ridden too close last time we'll take a sit here pillow fights a leader sass appeal right up on the speed and surf and bird are your three leaders i think craig williams will ride concord connie a lot handier which means that lady shenandoah and idle flyer both have to find a spot where they're not three wide it's not that easy for james from his barrier not to be stuck three wide but
Speaker 2surf and bird won't get her own way in front
Speaker 3no i don't think so pillow fights sort of one-dimensional charging forward so there should be at least enough pressure to make surf and bird at least work a little bit
Speaker 2can they win yes or no in the tab empire road stakes over the 1600 meters number one lady shenandoah yes two idle flyer yes three surf and bird yes four silica good place chance if it gets heavy but no five unleashing yes six ponder lowey no seven jenny multiballer eight salty pearl no nine sass appeal no ten concord connie look i'm gonna say no and eleven pillow fight no race nine is the asahi super dry sprint over the 1100 meters scratch uh generosity and trey mcfeek this is a good little race to conclude the program surely it's her day isn't it i don't think she wants the rain around flying for fun but she's at 280 with bet 365 bridal waltz five dollars ggs mistruth at nine in karuna at 10 naif at well naif are at twelve dollars the tazzy horse swift 416 nepo baby at 17 photograph at 19 and then gentle still there was a big winner there first up at 23 mark i think she'll
Speaker 3win gareth flying for fun uh she ran second in the race last year to new york luster there's good speed she's drawn beautifully you referenced the wet track now she's had four goes debut she was no good but you forgive the debut it was the first up run she ran eighth she ran well she was given no hope the goodwood was a soft six for me she was a good memory she had no luck and ran well and then the champion sprint was heavy she got beat four lengths she was given no hope whatsoever facing the breeze and she actually wanted to fight on on the line so i think it's far from certain she doesn't handle the ground i don't think it'll be a bog and i'm happy to think i don't care what the track's like i'm think flying for fun's the one to beat now by this stage of the day they'll be getting out wide so i think there's three really good value place chances number 17 nepo baby who is nepo baby who's a leader up on the speed give her a hand she's got a good lead she's got a good lead she's got a good lead she's got give a good sight 15 photograph ran fourth in the race last year on dry ground going well just screaming out for a wet track and at massive odds here number 16 aggerwood who's drawn out wide to follow the speed wasn't hopeless wasn't given the best chance last time she just could poke through and run a place so looking for the outside to totally dominate four clearly the one to beat 17 15 16 so for flying for
Speaker 2fun to take mark hunter home on derby day we're going to come back and get all of his best bets his staking plan as well um bud's got a best bet for us in wa and he's pretty confident in fact he's got best bets for us this
Speaker 1weekend join the conversation Text us on 0499 736 736.
Speaker 3What are the reserves, Gareth? Was there a game before? You there, Mick? You there? I can hear you. Yeah, well, you spoke for that long and I lost track of what you were talking about.
Speaker 2Mark, that's unbelievable. Yes, Gareth? They've got an opener for you now. What? You never play reserves, ever.
Speaker 3I did. I spent 13 weeks in the reserves in 1990.
Speaker 2Okay. But you'd never play reserves in country footy or anything like that?
Speaker 3I did play reserves when I went back. Well, I had to come back from injury, so I went up and filled in, played a reserves game at Dalesford in the fog. Okay. In the Ballarat Footy League? For Melton, yeah. Yeah, yeah. At Dalesford. Couldn't see. You turned off the whole league. How old were you then? 32, 33. Oh,
Speaker 2so they made you play reserves.
Speaker 3Well, no, I volunteered to have a quarterback and just get through a quarter footy.
Speaker 2How'd you go from playing AFL or VFL into the reserves?
Speaker 3No. Okay. I had one okay year and one year I just broke down every week.
Speaker 2This is the Hunter's Edge, thanks to Kea. The Kea Seltz is hybrid, available now. Find out more at kea.com slash au. Time for your best bets on Derby Day, Mark.
Speaker 3Best bet, race eight, number one, Lady Shenandoah. The Dino Malti, race eight, number one, Lady Shenandoah, into race nine, number four, Flying for Fun. The Ramah Ruffy, race four, number eight, Meridius. The Danny Del Rey. daily double we're going to play two daily doubles the main one first leg one two four six and seven second leg number four flying for fun one out then a smaller one one two four six and seven into the valley runners 15 16 and 17 the quaddie first leg five one and 13 second leg one two seven six and four third leg one three two and five last leg four 17 15 and 16 staking plan 45 all up race one number 10 the place the roaring sun race eight number one the win lady shenandoah and some exactors in the last gareth the first one we're going to spend 30 bucks number four to win flying for fun second 15 16 and 17 and the second one we're going to play two daily doubles second one we're going to spend 15 to come first 15 16 and 17 second number four spud has given us two race two number three i think it's called this is at ascot yep bondi's future is that right yeah it's two number three and race six number one a fire of gidgy coals one of your horses yes so
Speaker 2race two number three
Speaker 3and race six number one yep and packing them packing the friday fill up really like this one each way but there's been six scratchings to sum two race one number 11 fine and sunny comes through the same race as the favorite huge price discrepancy i think the mile will suit fine and sunny so we'll go with it each way to run one two at worst beautiful
Speaker 2plenty of questions coming through we've got chris waller coming up shortly morning guys why is quick finish so out of favor in the derby can't believe the price any ideas why that's from bomber no
Speaker 3it's look if you take a line through all of them they're all the same form and quick finishes in the race it's just with the exception of observer last year it's pretty hard to lead and win the derby so i'm just banking on quick finish running well but being gobbled up at the 200 um ray
Speaker 2says mark i think you're reading too much into barrier four for saturn i glow should slide in behind the good speed barry's also set in the middle of the track
Speaker 3yes but you've still got to get in the line garris so paradoxium is the speed out why you've got pembroke and natural fling just inside it and you've got stretton ruler who's not slow in five so malum's got to get his way across he'll probably look for the back end of the line of j mac i would think look for the back of j mac and be following him into the race so in these
Speaker 2straight races if you're a jockey all you need to do is follow zara malum or williams yeah or lane
Speaker 3yeah whoever walks the track and knows where to go most you tell me
Speaker 2every monday that there's jockeys they've got no idea and they just waste a run because they get in the wrong spot down the
Speaker 3straight they go down the middle that's the slowest part yeah and why because they don't know and it takes the takes the risk out of it you get in the middle everyone's got to follow you so it takes the risk out of it most so jason collins
Speaker 2so hopefully someone advises him where the best going is well
Speaker 3he'll be right by race six they'll be coming out yeah he's got to find the right spot but they'll be coming out most sydney jockeys with all due respect to them don't know
Speaker 2where to go no um if it wasn't for the wallace slash j mac factor st gotha would be ten dollars never been down the straight never raced on soft slash it won't be heavy so it won't win let's try it on soft seven and try quite well any reason mark pick just three horses for the cool more rather than his usual four uh
Speaker 3because i thought there were three winning
Speaker 2chances not four yep good morning gents thoughts on the machine gunning the cool more was held up last up behind saturno glow and arguably should have finished near the finish yes um was undefeated prior 51 bucks tomorrow has to be an each way chance it's from chris from perth by stay inside
Speaker 3i've got to stay inside so i watch it closely the machine gun two the first two wins were solid without being spectacular i thought the last run was probably its best run went back to last in the roman console i think it was and picked its way through and ran well just from that gate it's very hard to win a race like the cool more from an inside gate when it's

We've got our weekend preview, top four multi. Let me know who you think I should go. I'm pretty keen on the horse in race number one over the 1600 metres of Roaring Sun for my top four at a good each way price. Chris Waller, his trainer, is about to join me shortly. Looking forward to catching up with Chris. Maybe you've got a question for Chris. I've probably only got 10 minutes with the champion trainer. Guy Moldcaster yelled at me the other day because I went too long with the champion trainer. So I've got 10 questions ready to go. Obviously, he's a busy man and you can get all of Chris Waller's opinions on all of his horses by watching him on YouTube and also on his social media platforms. They provide a great service each and every week. Chris Waller and also Charlie Duckworth. So hopefully we'll catch up with Chris in just a moment. As I said, the weekend preview team ready to go. We're going to go right across the country to catch up with our experts. Heath Pope's done the form for us at Morpherville. Peter Anthonis and Terry Leighton will continue on their good form, hopefully, with their preview of Ascot on Saturday. Andrew O'Toole, Jane Ivel with their best in the territory and also New Zealand. We've got Country Corner. Our special guest is Austi Coffey for Country Corner. So always looking forward to that. Dean Evans towards the back end of the show from Winning Edge Investments will be joining me along with Nick Ashburn and Scotty Amor, the jump out king. It's 13 minutes past nine. Let's welcome in the team for the weekend preview. No Chris Waller-Louis. Not as yet. When's he coming on? Okay, so we can't get him. We'll see if we can find him anyway. We'll welcome in the weekend preview team. We'll start the weekend preview just a little bit earlier.
Speaker 1It's now time for the weekend preview with Mick Gannon, Dean Watling and Ben Caluzzi.
Speaker 2Hello to you. I'm Mick Gannon.
Speaker 6Good morning to you, G.
Speaker 2Welcome to Giddy Up in the studios. Good to be here. How long are you here for?
Speaker 610 days, I think. So
Speaker 2you're working Fancy and track
Speaker 6throughout that Flemington Carnival? Yep, the entire carnival. So we'll be on track. Oaks Day off, which would be good. So looking forward to relaxing Oaks Day and getting around it. But it should be a good week.
Speaker 2Any stables not flying at the moment, Gareth? I swear it's every stable when I listen. Yeah, well, of course. We only get the stables that are flying because you want to find the winners.
Speaker 6Don't you? We don't get slow ones on. No. So hello
Speaker 2to you, Ben and Caluzzi. Hello, mate. How are you? I'm very well. And we need to get you a Bet365 microphone. Yeah, you got one over there?
Speaker 7Yeah, there might be one in there. Paul, bring it in.
Speaker 2With the boss next to you, we've got to make sure we get that microphone. Hello to you, Zach Tunbridge. Welcome to Melbourne.
Speaker 8Thank you. Yeah. It's nice to be here a few times in the next couple of weeks.
Speaker 2Yeah. A few questions coming through that I can't ask, Chris Waller. Derby Day. It's something else. How many Derby Days have you been to, Mick? This has been our fourth. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. I've mentioned this on a few occasions. There's nothing better, really, than coming through those gates there at Flemington on Derby Day. The aura of the joint. Hopefully, the sun will be shining as well. But it doesn't look like there's a bit of rain predicted there tomorrow, but there's nothing better.
Speaker 6One to five mil? What are they thinking, Gary? Yeah, about that.
Speaker 2It's gone down a lot. Yeah, they reckon it'll start raining from about 10.30 right throughout, on and off.
Speaker 7Okay. Gee, I still remember my first Derby Day. Yeah. The prize icon, James Cummings, still had the long locks. Yes. Did he? Jimmy. I know he won it at a big prize, so that was my first ever Derby Day. How is James going? He's going really well.
Speaker 2He started trying a few winners there in Hong Kong. I think he's going to catch up with us next week, James. Is he coming back home for this time of year? No, I think he's busy time in Hong Kong, so. Hey, the champion trainer, Chris Waller, now joins us here on Giddy Up. Chris, we really do appreciate your time on such a busy day. No, my pleasure. How have you been? Part of it. Yeah, pretty good. Yeah. Yeah, looking forward to Christmas Day tomorrow. It is. Are you at
Speaker 9Flemington or Randwick tomorrow? I'm going to be at both. I'm going to start the morning at Flemington and go to Randwick. There you go. That's really critical, isn't it?
Speaker 2Have you got your helicopter or your- No, Qantas. Qantas. Hopefully, there's no delays. Geez. I hope they're on time tomorrow, Qantas. Yes, yes. It's going to be a great day, mate. We'll ask about your Derby runner, Stormy Marco, first of all. We had a chat to Paul Massara yesterday, and he didn't feel as we're too much confidence with Cormier. He basically said, Gareth, it's an afterthought. It was a tough run last week. We're going to travel to Melbourne. We just had a look at the film. We thought, geez, it's a very winnable $3 million race. Are you in the same boat? Is it an afterthought for Stormy Marco?
Speaker 9A little bit, but we've done our form, and we think Cormier is, isn't it, of course? And Stormy Marco, we've got them rated on top, but that's just our opinion based on form. We think the spring champion form will stand up. So it'll be interesting.
Speaker 2Have you always had this at the back of your mind? I think Guy Malkaster mentioned that you might have been keen to get to a Derby with him.
Speaker 9Yeah, well, it worked with us with Man's Voice, who was no superstar, but he ran like fourth or fifth in the spring champion and came down to win it. I didn't. I didn't. I didn't. The key is you've just got to be fit to run that 2,500 at this time of the year. So they're seasoned horses, and I'm hoping they've just got
Speaker 2a bit of an edge because of that. Does McDonnell have to ride in quiet from that draw to get the 2,500 metres? Oh, look, it's really hard to win a
Speaker 9Derby from back in the field. So I think if you go through most of the winners, all the horses sort of got to be up there. So, yeah, I won't tie James down, but it'd be good to be up there. That's for sure if you're one of the main chances. True. Tone, can he win a Derby? He's quite done deal. His run at Geelong was a pass mark. That was stepping from a mile up to 2,200, and he got a bit keen. So I'm just hoping that 2,200 metre race will just help bring him on and settle and obviously help his fitness. So that's what I'm hoping for.
Speaker 2My spies at Flemington tell me St. Gothard's been flying, Chris. I think it's pretty close to the mark.
Speaker 9Yes. Yeah. Yeah, so he's a very talented horse. James has been happy, which is good. And, yeah, he's well bred, as you know, and he's a great mover and he's got some good form. His run the other day, Golden Rose, was really good. And that was like only his. It was his fourth start.
Speaker 2So he's a horse on the up. How much improvement with the blinkers on him? One and a quarter length. That's all he needs. That's all he needs, Chris. Do you want the rain or not? Doesn't matter. No, no. Jeez, it was a good ride by MacDonald there on Lady Shedindale the other day. Yes, I'm looking at her now. I'm literally looking at her now. We need to have you on camera on racing.com, RSNSE and track. But how is she looking? She looks great. Absolutely great. I reckon she looks better today
Speaker 9than she did on two-rack day.
Speaker 2She's going to be hard to beat then.
Speaker 9Yeah, for sure. Weight for age is going to be a big plus. Whereas, like handicap, she had to carry a big weight against the boys last start. So leave the rest to James now.
Speaker 2Would you back her up next week? Take on Autumn Glow if there's only two or three in the race?
Speaker 9Oh. Autumn Glow. Yeah. Same ownership. I don't think they like racing.
Speaker 2No, that's a good point. I forgot about that. Otherwise, yes. Yes, I should have known that. I apologise. So you've got Lady Shedindale hard to beat. She's ready to go. Can you defeat she's alibi in a Golden Eagle?
Speaker 9No. It's not going to be easy. But look, luckily you're going to get a nice run. And Zach Burton, the board-ordered boy, and look, he's run second to her, I think, three times in Group 1 races. Doncaster and the Kylie Diva and the Roundwood Guineas. So he's right there. Like, there's not many other horses that run second to her. No. So he can do that. We just need she's alibi just to be off the game a little bit or not get the perfect run. And we need to be on the best of our. Well, we have to go to a new level. We have to get the perfect run. So there's probably three or four things there. If it works in our favour, yes.
Speaker 2Otherwise, no. Baywack could be tough to run down if it goes his way.
Speaker 9Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Look, he's obviously a very talented horse. And look, he broke the track record in the Golden Rose last year over 1,400. So that's just. And then he won a Memsie down. And here, like, he's a serious 1,400-metre horse. There's nothing to say he can't improve over 1,500. Yeah. But the key is getting him just to switch off and settle and things like that. So very talented colt.
Speaker 2I think Moods, when I had a chat to him yesterday, he was worried about Baywack. So he just didn't want Nash to get away with too much in front. But he's a good horse on his day. So that's going to be an interesting race, the Golden Eagle. Can you win the Russell boarding? How's me old mate Joker's Gringo increasing?
Speaker 9Chris, it's going to riot. Um, I think he's looking for 1400, so this is. at least 1300
Speaker 2yeah uh we're
Speaker 9just sort of gradually getting there with them so uh probably run here and then come down to the
Speaker 2oar okay hey we've got a slot in those meteorite and the um supernova so if you've got a horse for us let us know chris we'll do a deal with you hutchie will give you a good deal chris we'll look after you yeah good yeah just keep us in mind maybe ladies shinandoa Hey, we'd really appreciate that, tell Hermitage. I don't know what we can give our friends in Hong Kong, but see if you can put a good word in for us. Now, I'm looking at Autumn Glow as we speak now.
Speaker 9She's travelled down from Rose Hill with her, and she looks pixie-per-seat. She's travelled down overnight.
Speaker 2And so she'll have a gulp Tuesday morning before Saturday? Yes. How many of your horses will take her on in the Champions Mile? Not too sure yet. Probably a couple, like two or three. I think it's just going to be great to see her there on Champions Day. There'll be 80-odd thousand there. Fisher will be there in Autumn Glow. What else do you need, really, Chris? Yeah, Autumn and Fisher. Yes, yes, yes. You should keep her for the last, put her on the dance floor. That would make everyone's day. Now, the first race, the Carbine Club Stakes, Chris. I reckon McDonald's, he's picked the wrong one here. The Roaring Sun. Would you agree?
Speaker 9Quite possibly. Yes. Quite possibly. Yeah, I'm not sure how it worked out, but I guess the Roaring Sun's only second up. And, yeah, the Hingeders had a couple of runs. And finished off really well last start. So, gets the perfect run from the draw.
Speaker 2Little things like that. The Wakefield Stakes. Are we backing Thar or your colour for the Oaks before Saturday? It's hard to split, aren't they?
Speaker 9Yeah, they're good horses. From my perspective. And they've both gone really wide tomorrow. So, yeah. But they've both come out of that ethereal run really well. And they're all still going to come out. They're all still going to come out. They're all still going to come down to who stays the best. Not only tomorrow, but also in the Oaks. And, obviously, there's the Sydney filly of David Payne's come down for it as well.
Speaker 2Yeah. And she's a very good filly. She's the solid favourite there. Yeah. Unbeaten. Now, Aliata and Birdman. Are we going to see them on Champions Day? Most likely. Oh, that's exciting. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 9Yeah. So, yeah. Well, yeah. What was sort of. Founders. Like with their Sistine the last couple of years. She was probably a. Well, she's a similar type to Birdman. He's a big, strong horse like she was. Aliata's a little bit different, but she coped pretty well with the back up.
Speaker 2Yeah. Yeah. What did you make of her and the Cox played Aliata? She was really good.
Speaker 9Awesome. Yeah. A couple of things went against her in the run. But, overall, I thought she was good. She was there. She was there to win. Better horse on the day got us. Yeah. Two better horses on the day got her.
Speaker 2Yeah. Who would you. Now, it's going to be another really interesting Champions States. Cosmic Crusader will be back there. He's even had to take on Buckaroo in the North League. So, you can't escape him, Chris. So, yeah. It's going to be a good race, that Champions Stakes. Yeah. No, that's.
Speaker 9Yeah. It's good to hear. And racing's the winner for getting those horses to clash again.
Speaker 2Yeah. Yeah. If I gave you $100, Chris. Chris, what would you do with it this weekend? This weekend. Or Cup Week.
Speaker 9Maybe go Roaring Sun tomorrow.
Speaker 2I appreciate you, Roaring Sun. That's all I wanted to hear. We'll do just that. What about you? You're going to wear black and white there. And then, when you get to the airport, change into a more colourful suit for Golden Eagle.
Speaker 9Something like that. Black and white suit with a New South Wales tie.
Speaker 2Yes. Yes. Yes. Who rides Asterix? Trent Mason held his beat on me back. He's the only rider that he hasn't got for the Melbourne Cup yet, Chris.
Speaker 9Not sure. Ask Charlie. That's his department.
Speaker 2All right. Where is Charlie? Is he there? He's in Melbourne.
Speaker 9I haven't. He's not around me at the moment, though. But I'll tell him to send you a message before the show's over.
Speaker 2I appreciate that, Chris. Hey, we appreciate your time, mate. You've been superb with the media. Right throughout the carnival, you're in for another big day.
Speaker 9It's a privilege to be involved.
Speaker 2Yep. You go and get them and enjoy Flemington and Randwick tomorrow. Thank you. There's the champion trainer, Chris Waller. It's quickly approaching 9.28. So, that means we're going to take a break. On the other side of it, we'll have that music playing because our Megaboost horse will be ready to go. I wonder what the Megaboost horse will be. I'm tipping it might be a horse from Victoria heading up to Sydney. And hopefully, we'll get $3. $2.50? What are you laughing at? Benny, do you reckon Braden will give us $2.53? He was actually sledging me when I was down there last week after I lost there with Light Infantry, man. So, if you've got any, if you want to be a hero now, Braden, give us $3. We'll take a break. Our Megaboost horse will be revealed straight after this. Hello to you, Mick Gannon. Welcome back. Yeah, good to be back, G. Zachy Tunbridge a bit stressed because Braden's got the Megaboost up not yet.
Speaker 8No, Megaboost is there. Is it? Yes, Megaboost is there.
Speaker 2It's 9.30, Braden. You stressed the poor man out. He's turned, his face has gone all red. Hello to you, Benny. Hello, mate. How are you? Good, thank you. So, play the music. Play the music there, Paulie Sebastiani. And just before I reveal the Megaboost, I forgot to welcome in, out of sight, out of mind in a way, but Dean Watling is with us.
Speaker 10Hello, Dino. Yeah, pleasure to be here, G. A little bit of Gareth Shelby going on there, G. You like it?
Speaker 2Yeah. I should get you one of these. It's good. I like that too.
Speaker 6You'd have to be a bit bigger than yours.
Speaker 2You would look good, yes. And Dino's pulled out of coming to Melbourne, which is unfortunate. He says, I'm on Sky Racing on Saturdays and I've been given this big opportunity and I can't, and like, I've gone straight past my great mate, Lewis Willoughby, and I can't knock back this opportunity, so I'm not coming to Huntington, Gareth. It's the golden mingle. It's the golden mingle, G. That's why he's not coming. You can go and get stuffed. So, there you go. It is the biggest week in racing, Dino, and you want to be one of the biggest players, so you need to get down here.
Speaker 10Yeah, I didn't pass the CT scan, G. That's the real truth. They put me on the microscope and I failed, so I'm not down there in Melbourne.
Speaker 2The PET scan as well. You blew it up, unfortunately. All right, then. Zachy Tunbridge, take it away.
Speaker 8Yes. Well, anyone watching on TV will see it, but $2.50. She's an alibi for another half an hour or so. I had to go to the race card and it'll be there, so I think the real price is about $1.75. So, nice one. So, $2.50. $2.50. 500 people have already taken it in that last couple of minutes.
Speaker 2Yeah, because I told everyone before 9.30. Good work. Is it a good thing, Benny? Yes. Is she a good thing? She is a good thing, I think. Mickey Gannon? Yeah, she should be winning. Yeah. What about you, Dino? Surely you're tipping her on top, but you did take on Kaying Rising.
Speaker 10Yeah, I'm not going to zag this time, G. That's true. Well, we did stop Kaying. I don't think we'll stop she's an alibi, though, G. I think the only danger is Bywok, but he's got a mind of his own. Yes, he has.
Speaker 2He's a bit like you. Sometimes you've got him, and sometimes you haven't. But if he gets his own way out in the front, look out. What about our weekend preview, Top 4 Multi?
Speaker 8Yes, that is live. I can see. I was just trying to put it on. There was a little glitch there. So, if anyone's worried, it'll be fixed soon. But I can see 400 people have already taken it. So, it's Donatello, The Roaring Sun, the next episode, and Baron Gary. Current price is about $8.55. And about, yeah, 400 people have taken it.
Speaker 2All those legends last week telling me that they would have cashed out it after, um, length three. How many did cash out, Zach?
Speaker 8There was a few, because you would have got more than four to one on your money. So, I think if you had 50 on, you would have got more than 200. But, um, most people didn't. They backed you in.
Speaker 2Yeah. Do you know the media conference after being the coach? After, yeah, after losing that battle there with Light Infantry, man, you sit back and you analyze and you think, why did I do that after those three-year-olds? I sort of knew that they, I didn't think that they would make them work that, that hard to get to the front.
Speaker 6I saw an egg looking back, G.
Speaker 2They were half slow away, weren't they? That was their problem.
Speaker 7Especially with Land Legend, he was slow away and then he just had to muster, but it was always going to be a good tempo.
Speaker 2I would nearly butter up on him again without the three-year-olds and the champion stakes, but I won't. But, you know, I'll probably do my own top, my own top four multi and have him in Light Infantry, man, because I reckon he'll finish fourth at his next start.
Speaker 7Someone had a good theory the other day. 24 horses? Yes. That Light Infantry man only runs one good rating of preparation, and that might have been the Turnbull.
Speaker 2Okay. There you go. Wish you would have told me that last week there, Ben. I'm sorry. Who are we going with our top four multi? I'll kick it all off. So, if I don't win my, like, this is the first. League first race at Fleming to kick it all off. It can be a long carnival if I stuff this up. If I do stuff it up, I can always blame Chris Waller and Mark Hunter here. But I'm with the Roaring Sun. And Mickey Gannon, because you were keen on this horse at the start of the week, weren't you?
Speaker 6Yeah, 26 bucks, something.
Speaker 2Yep. Alright then, so here's my top four play. What about you, Mick?
Speaker 6Going to Randwick Race 1, Donatello for Chris Waller. Okay. I thought you were going Race 2. Yeah, I was, but I felt like you were forcing me to take that, so I've just pivoted late.
Speaker 7Benny Caluzzi? I have gone with the next episode in the Coolmore. I think he's the one to beat. Draws the outside, and I think if we get a little bit of rain, he runs on into top four, no worries.
Speaker 2And Dean Whatley?
Speaker 10I've gone Barron and Gary G, the Sydney Gold Cup, a race 9, so hopefully you boys do the job early, and I'll hopefully sail home down the top, over the top, sorry.
Speaker 2Long wait. Long wait for you, Dean, eh? So we've gone Race 1, Race 1, Randwick and Flemington. The next episode in the Coolmore, and then Barron and Gary, the Country Galloper. I'm Race 9 at Randwick. Oh, he's a midway star, isn't he, Barron and Gary? Good horse. Yeah, he's a good horse. Way better than midway. Yeah. $8.55. How long will that price stay up for?
Speaker 8Until the end of this segment. So, and whenever we finish, they'll click it down to probably like $7.30 or something. $10.30,
Speaker 2$10.30 we'll finish. Louis, it's Derby Day, the weekend preview. We can't end them early. Let's have a look at the, we'll start off with Randwick and then we'll come home with Flemington. So, Randwick at the moment on a good four railed through.
Speaker 6How will this track play, Mick Gannon? Yeah, lanes 1 to 3 probably inferior. 4-5 winnable, and then 6 through to 10 always the best going with the rails in the true position. If it does continue to dry out, probably forward of midfield, running line, the place to BG.
Speaker 2Mark says, hi, Gareth. I was one of those punters that cashed out last week and put the profit on Cosmic Crusader at $9.50, so thank you very much. Good on you, Mark. I'm happy for you. Well done. She's Alibi. How hard can it get to. What's what we said? She's Alibi. She's Alibi, Royal Tiger. Who's saying she's an Alibi? What? The G-Man's tip should always be the last leg is the people have a chance to win. That's from Jason. Ben says you're a fool, Gareth. While attacking the PI SS early in the week, his tip was unhinged. Now he's picked the other horse in the race. Also, can you ask Bet365 what percentage of the punters cashed out? Do you have that?
Speaker 8Of the top four multi? No, I don't. 17.5%. I can ask. Well, there you go.
Speaker 2If you guys can get Cain Rising and she's Alibi beat, you've got superpowers. Gee, I forgot to cash out last week. Good morning, Gareth. Are you able to run through John Kelton's tips again for the weekend? Yes, we will. That's from Greg. I didn't know. Oh, we can't mention that, Jess. Come on. Podcast for Greg. Love the interview with Chris Waller. So many people saying that they enjoyed that interview with the great man, Chris Waller. He was terrific, wasn't he? He was nice and relaxed. We should have met him on V-Mix there, Louis. Had him on V-Mix, we could have seen Autumn Glow and Lady Shenandoah. Maybe next time, Louis, but you're doing a wonderful job, Louis Clifton. Let's get into the preview. Bet365 market for the Russell Boarding Scratch Chidiak the 16. Yes,
Speaker 8so race number seven. So there have been a couple here that have actually been backed, and I'll touch on the two that have been the most supported, and it's Ninja and Headwall. So Ninja is still around that five bucks, and Headwall at $420. $420, you could have got five bucks for Headwall. They're the two that they like the most. Instead, Jimmy Starr's there at $440, but I have to talk about Ninja and Headwall more so.
Speaker 2Dean Watley, who wins the Russell Boarding?
Speaker 10Yeah, let's kick off with the speed map here. Gee, there's an abundance of speed. We're from the 1,300-meter chute start. They'll start 100 meters closer, obviously, from the 14 chute. It is a tricky sort of setup. Two turns to the corner. You've got the blade, you want a rower, graft to burners, potentially out wide, then draw it inside Mahuna and cold crusher and cabala. So I think they'll go quick. I think there'll be a three-wide line. Does that mean every horse will get their chance? Well, rail true. You suggest off-rails and run, and getting in the middle part of the track's probably going to be key. Who gets there? Well, I think the key lead-up to this race always is the Everest. What was the best run from the horses here from the Everest? I thought it was Headwall, and there's two key changes, I thought, from his run there. It was the closest he's ever settled and the fastest he's ever gone to the 600 meters, and then he's produced the second-best last 600 meters off that. So I think the stable have learned you don't have to flop out the back. You don't have to be 10 legs last on him. You can put him into the race, and I think Chad will do that. Gano from Gate 3 just has to land off rails early. I think Headwall wins the Russell Balding this year.
Speaker 6I'm really keen to be with Jimmy Starr, Jimmy. I think from the wide draw, gets on the back of Ninja, Spicy Martini, and gets a really good drag into the race. Ethan Brown jumps on. It's rare that you lose Nash and you're happy with a jockey. I think it's an upgrade for this horse. Ethan rides Jimmy Starr better than anyone. He'll get to the best going, and he'll rip home late. More than happy with him, especially 1,300 meters. 12 to 13, Headwall versus Jimmy Starr. Clearly in the camp of Jimmy Starr, Benny, given that Headwall's never been there.
Speaker 7I am having a two-bet play here, and I am backing Headwall and Ninja. Like Dan, I agree. I thought Headwall was one of the runs of the races in that Everest. Look, 1,300 meters is no doubt a query. He's drawn low. He's got to try and step well yet again, but I think he's the one to beat. And I've also had something on Ninja, who of those top three in the market, he's probably got the best tactical versatility. So I think he can go forward, offset that wide barrier, and I was just against Jimmy Starr, just with 16, hoping he gets a little bit too far back. So Headwall from Ninja.
Speaker 2It's interesting you're tipping Headwall over 1,300 meters. I remember having a chat to everybody at the start of his preparation, wondering if you'd get 1,200. Now we're tipping him to win in a
Speaker 716-halls field over 1,300. But it was a fast-run race in the Everest, and he got the 12 no problem at all. There you go.
Speaker 10It's interesting, G, with his ratings. You go back through, and his two best ratings last preparation were Ascot, Randwick, 1,200 meters. And then I think there's any acid test of you getting 1,300 meters, it's in that high-pressure Everest that we saw. And if he was sort of late fading sectionally, I would have been concerned. But his last 600 meters after sitting the closest he's ever sat in his life was the second best. The only thing that beat him was Jimmy Starr, who obviously is going to get a little bit further back. So I don't think there's any issue with 1,300 meters. The only issue, I think, maybe, if that run did flatten him in an Everest.
Speaker 2It's 40 minutes past time. We're going to take a break. This is the Weekend Preview, all thanks to Mac, who's on the other side of it. We'll preview the Super Dry Golden Eagle. Great to have your company on this Friday morning. This is the Weekend Preview on Derby Eve, thanks to Macca's Run. Heat things up with Macca's Spicy McNuggets. Then cool it down by dipping them into the Creamy Ranch sauce. What? I was just laughing. All I was thinking about that when I saw the word dipping was Dino taking a dip with his. Oh, my God help us. We're up to the Golden Eagle. Now our Mega Boost horse is up here.
Speaker 8It's flying. This could be record. I think Kying Rising was the record at a tick. Maybe it was 3,000. I can't remember. We got him beat. Yeah, we did. 2,100 already with another 20 minutes or so for She's Alibi. But in terms of anything else, so the real price is $1.75. I did just pull up the hold for it. And Gareth, would you like to guess the She's Alibi hold? Percentage-wise? Yep. 97.5%. No, not that far. 90.3. Who are they backing against? Well, they've just split it around. Autumn Boy gets two. Baywalk gets two. Skyhook gets two. But yeah, Chipsy and She's Alibi. I don't think. I can't really give you anything else. They're just backing that.
Speaker 2Great insight. Thanks for that, Zach. Let's go to Mickie Gannon. You there, Mick? When I go, up to you, Mick. You've got to
Speaker 6talk. Yeah, no. I just can't stop laughing about your dipping sauce. Baywalk leads. A regal award. How forward do you think they'll be in a regal award? Is he getting out of the gates these days? He's one of your old favourites. Not anymore. Seeing other people? Yes. Skyhook comes across. Mr. Miller, Adhika, key speed influencers. But look, if Baywalk wants to lead them up, it'd be a matter of how far Nashville wants to lead them by. Getting to 1,500 metres, we heard what Chris sort of mentioned before. Some question marks about how quick you'll go, but at some stage, you'll try to break their hearts for sure. But she's an alibi. She just draws to perfection. Barrier five should just be, I'd say, three lengths off them at the 600 metres, peel to the outside on that rip. It's as simple as that, Gareth. I think it'd be too good for them. I was just thinking about Chris Waller then.
Speaker 2Like, imagine if they do close the airport or there's a flight delay and he's at the airport watching all these races. Well, you'd probably go back to Flemington, wouldn't you? After watching the early part of that meeting. How's he going to get. I should have asked him. I'm intrigued now.
Speaker 6I'm no flight genius, but how's he going to get from 340 Coolmore to 445 Golden Eagle? He'd be missing the Coolmore. Not a chance.
Speaker 2No. Unless he. Yeah, and he's flying Qantas, which is a great airline. You still have to wait, Chris, in line. It's not like you can jump on your own plane.
Speaker 7You know he doesn't. He watches on the screen anyway, even if he is at the track. Yeah, he does. You been with him, Dino?
Speaker 2Yeah. Anyway, who are you tipping the Golden Eagle to? He launches and wins! -
Speaker 10Oh, I'm with she's an alibi boys. you get rid of last start um and if we're going to the race she's probably a dollar 30 for this contest i think the only reason we're getting a price now is because she got beaten in obviously the might and power we saw birdman coming out of that run a massive race in a cox plate i think there's only one job for luke nolan that is to land off rails in run i think he does that she wins the race i think you got to have something on bywak as well he's been past 1400 meters or two 1400 meters four times he's produced massive career peaks he won a memsie beating a good field he won a golden rose he's won another contest there i think an all-aid stakes and the other time he went to 1500 meters was in a george rider where he just got blown up went way too fast if he gets control of this race and the track's playing a little bit more leaderish than it normally does i think bywak's the only other horse you can beat her you're getting seven dollars there so i think back she's an alibi and back bywak in this benny
Speaker 7yeah i probably agree with that i think um you know i think it's a good thing that we've got a good race and we've got a good race their big chance to beat she's alibi faded away on tuesday night after she's drawn barrier six comes into five after the scratchings look the setup isn't exactly ideal coming off a brutally run 2000 but she has had three weeks to get over it and perhaps that is just a little bit overplayed we've seen what with the 2000 meter cox plate what these fast run races and you know getting fitness and building into horses it has done um for a horse like cosmic crusader and even and the like so i think perhaps those on races taking it out of horses is a little bit overplayed and i think she'll be too good
Speaker 2what about amazing journey dino um johnny o'neill's declared it basically there on monday on the means test do you share his confidence or is he dreaming uh i'd say he's probably
Speaker 10dreaming gee i don't can't back it off the figures it's doing overseas it's i could sort of see you do get a glimpse um sort of what these horses are running overseas their ratings was i do respect them when they produce the figure to win a race um over there and they come over to a show and they're like oh my god i'm gonna win this race i'm gonna win this race australia what he has to do and what this horse has to do fresh off the plane he's run a massive career peak and probably hope the two that we mentioned fail so gate 13 doesn't add any hope at all i think they've got to go back from that draw can run on but um it's tricky taking on kira martin the moment isn't it g he
Speaker 2could improve it there's no doubt about that at the moment so you do you do have to respect every horse trained by the master trainer at the moment c mar so let's look at the golden eagle the sydney gold cup over the 2000 meters no pounding unfortunately and perisher comes out i think he's in melbourne perisher this week um what's the market doing
Speaker 8here's that there were so many bets on pounding too it was a really big firm so there should be he's the people's champ yeah that hurts so that only came out this morning so baron gary is the favorite though at 360 stars in their eyes 380 anthracite 480 then your double figures for the rest of them um most of the money has come for the favorite though baron gary you take it away
Speaker 2because this is one of your better bets on the program and you'll play with our weekend preview for multi it is g we'll touch
Speaker 10on the speed map and there's not a whole lot of speed to report camber dino anthracite portland probably roll forward and we saw baron gary go back due to the gate last start but i think he maps to get the one one i think stars in their eyes and covalica can be closer outside of that it's full of back markers so not a whole lot of speed why do i love baron gary well he's just a progressive type job it's got him absolutely flying and like i mentioned last start i think if he's in the race he draws better he wins that and he's been punching through that bar that pain barry sort of been three wide first and second up and he still closes last side he was wide back and still found so peaking fourth up in the preparation doesn't get in the best of weights he could get in better at the weights if it wasn't a quality but he still gets him in 53 dylan gibbons takes over and again i just think with that positive barrier he'll destroy him here in the sydney gold cup yeah
Speaker 6i can see dina's point and i think there's a three horse race really anthracite it's a great example of why you just keep racing horses this horse just continues to win love to see it from joe pride rolls forward if they let anthracite get away with a soft lead i think he probably ends up being too good for them but you hope that baron gary and stars in their eyes dropping in weight can settle close clear race in three i can't see anything getting closed for the sake of a tip i'll lean the way of anthracite just on top but any of those three
Speaker 7can win benny i agree it is a race in three the market uh tells you that i'm going to lean baron gary i just think he's the one with a little bit of upside look stars in their eyes does get i think it's a three kilo swing at the weights but i just think baron gary is probably the progressive one i thought he's run last start was huge and he was rattling off the the fastest late splits so if he can just sit a pair or two closer i think he can run down anthracite and hold off stars in their eyes let's have
Speaker 2a look at race 10 over the 1100 meters scratch the three compensation poker jack the 16 here zach
Speaker 8yep and favorite here is summerton smart so it's five dollars the field sylph six bucks 650 for what a legacy and then you got 750 for mercy me only had a little bit on sylph and water legacy and then you got 750 for mercy me
Speaker 6what a legacy mickey gannon i'm keen with summit and smart here from uh sue grills yard this also showed a fair bit of ability early on in its career as a current current i class one put up an enormous figure and it's hard to trust that figure but since then didn't do a lot these preparations come back at tamworth there wasn't benchmark 82 but it was a really good run sort of sat three wide and just put them to the sword i loved his work i love his work through the line i think he's got plenty to offer and i think he can win this race there's a high pressure race here i think you'll see probably six seventh in the run and just peel off and go bang for dylan gibbons and we'll see what happens next week we'll see what happens next week we'll see what what a legacy gets back to a dry deck if it's a complete good four closer to good three he can bounce back but he does need it really
Speaker 10dry do you know yeah what a legacy had that sort of flat second up run off the long layoff there didn't like that setup staying 1100 meters with two weeks between runs gap between runs now turn off he's better ridden as a leader he's got options there tommy bear from gate four i just thought if he runs up to that first up effort he probably wins this race and like gano mentioned he just needs it rock hard he gets that here on saturday so tricky end of the day benny but what a legacy on top yeah
Speaker 7this is a tough race i'm probably gonna have a small bet on so and smart and maybe something on where's the profit as well but follow the sydney boys in i didn't give this race a whole lot of
Speaker 2love 52 minutes past nine we'll take our break don't forget our mega boost tours we've still got around eight and a half minutes or seven and a half minutes for 12 12 minutes let's go 12 what about five past 10 then 15 let's go yep five past ten

Speaker 2dollar fifty we're getting what two fifty for the next nine minutes what about you dino
Speaker 10yep uh great with benny race eight number 16 she's an alibi i win save on buyback and my best of the day race nine number 14 baron gary g l's out there this morning too joe eibel suggested if he wins this race they potentially will back him up in the gong 1600 meters on gong day the 21st i think it
Speaker 2is can't wait for that the gong um you'll be there won't you dino
Speaker 10yes g i'll be there he'll

Speaker 1conversation text us on 0 4 9 7 3 6 7 3 6 live across australia this is giddy up with gareth hall this
Speaker 2is giddy up in the weekend preview thanks to the maccas run heat things up with maccas spicy McNuggets than cool it down by dipping them into the creamy ranch. I don't know what's so funny. That'd be fantastic! Can we get Dino to read that? I love my spicy McNuggets. It's the best. Yeah. I've eaten a lot of McDonald's of recent times. When you get busy and it doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day, you just probably eat. You need takeout. So McDonald's is always on the way home down the highway these days. And yeah, I'm going to try these spicy McNuggets.
Speaker 8You would have been at the 24-hour Brookvale Maccas before?
Speaker 2A hundred percent.
Speaker 8Yeah. Loved it.
Speaker 2Now, let's move on to our Flemington preview. Who knows how this track will play tomorrow? Well, they'll probably get off the fence. Rail's still in the true after last week. Rain is predicted throughout the day. So I reckon we'll be working. It will be no worse than a soft six. I reckon a soft five
Speaker 6by the time we get to the good races. That's my predicament. If you go to the Norwegians, gee, they don't reckon more than one and a half mils of rain.
Speaker 2I'll be good for them. Yeah. Yeah. Which makes it interesting. And you trust those Norwegians over us Australians. With my life. Yes. Do you want to go and have a look at race one now since it's been built up? What's the market doing? Why not? At Flemington?
Speaker 8Yeah. I'll mention race one. Unhinged was the one they smashed around as soon as markets went up. That's 340 now. So that's been the best back to 420 into 340. But yes, Star of Macedon did get back to about 10, 15 minutes ago, nine into six. So there was a solid go there. And the other one obviously is Roaring Sun. Gee, you could have got tens now into seven, but they're the three.
Speaker 2It's an interesting one. Mark Hunter's just sent me through the acceptances there for Tuesday. There's Mr. Whiskers, True Tone, Star of Macedon, Fringilla, Billy Cart. Billy Cart didn't accept there for Saturday, but there's a few horses that have nominated there for Tuesday as well. So there might be a few horses come out of those early three-year-old races there. And be saved for Tuesday. Who wins the first race,
Speaker 7Benny Caluzzi? I think Waller probably wins it, doesn't he? He's got a couple of chances here. Unhinged was very good last time around. Look, he's quite exposed now. His form is, it's probably not of the Carbine Club stakes winners that Waller has had in the past. So I definitely think Roaring Sun is the value selection and that's probably the one I'll be backing each way. Roaring Sun. Yep.
Speaker 6Beautiful. Good judge you are. What about you, Mickey Gannon? There's only two horses. He, G, that aren't, you'll accept it. Yes. Which changes the complexion of the race. Unhinged is clearly the one for me. It deserves to be favourite. You get Jay Mackey, land forward of midfield, close, I'd say midfield, forward of midfield, just get cover and just rip home. So I'm keen. At the start of the week, we also backed the Roaring Sun. I think it's a clear danger and it was the right price to find out. It's probably short enough now coming off, what was it, a Kembler run, which was a good Kembler run. It wasn't outstanding. A tick over trial in between. Would have loved to see him
Speaker 10tick, Dino. Yep, I'm keen on the Chris Waller duo Glenorchy and the Roaring Sun. They both went to Kembler. They both snagged out the back and they both absolutely ripped home. If that's not the perfect trial for this race, I don't know what is. I think the danger's high falls. Really good last start and I'm happy to take on Unhinged. Like Benny mentioned, probably the one that comes here that's maybe exposed enough. So happy to back the six and the 10 in race one, G. Yeah, I agree. I suppose there's a winner. Yeah, I'd take on Unhinged
Speaker 2every day of the week. Those boys have lost the plot. No, the Roaring Sun to flash down the outside.
Speaker 8Well, just on that, also Mega Boost, Nathan, who Raiden and the boys sort of answered to, he said he'll push it to 10.10. What, the top four? No, the Mega Boost. Okay, 10 past 10. So it was 10.05. It was supposed to be 10. 10.05, he said he'll go to 10.10. It's already a record now too. And with Nathan,
Speaker 2can you do me a favour as well? I don't want to be too critical of his work, but just keep the price the same for our weekend preview top four multi until the show finishes.
Speaker 8It's not easy. Well, it is easy. Just lock it in. No, it's not. Anyway. Yeah, yeah. You talk to Nathan, Jack Gareth. Last time you were at the office, you just walked straight into the CEO's office and asked him,
Speaker 2do you like Giddy Up? Yeah. And he loves it, right? No, I didn't. Did I really? You walked straight in his office. Mike said he loves Giddy Up. I didn't have to ask him. Yeah, well, anyway. That's not throwing me under the bus. No, not at all. It's good. It is confident. Yeah. Race 2 is the Vanity. I did actually say that because he does sponsor the show and if he doesn't like it, then I might have to find a new job. Or sponsor. Yeah, or sponsor. You don't see how it goes. Race number 2, over the 1,400 metres. No scratching just yet. This is the Vanity. What's the market
Speaker 8doing here? Yeah, all over Regal Ambition. That's the favourite around that 2.30 mark and two others that they have backed is I Am Aria, Blake Shin in there and they've had a little bit, little, on Autumn Lover for Moody and Coleman at around 20. 21 they took. It's now 23.
Speaker 7Benny, who wins this race? I think Regal Ambition is one of the better bets of the day. Gee, she started $3.70 in the 1,000 guineas. Look, that was a day where you needed to be up and in. St. Lee Dancer and Ice Lady, they sat the 1-2. They ran the 1-2 but she was finishing off best. She comes back here in a pretty weak looking Vanity. I think Pinup Sheila might be the only danger but she's just got panels on these from a class perspective and wet or dry doesn't matter. I'm not too worried about back to 14
Speaker 6Mickey Gannon. I'm nervous about the map for Regal Ambition and just the race shape so running potentially into just a bit of a breeze. Some of these text messages
Speaker 2are coming through today just ridiculous. Can
Speaker 6we block 881 please? It's distracting Gareth.
Speaker 2Yeah, no, but it's not just him.
Speaker 6It's outrageous really. It is outrageous stuff. So I think the race shape could be a bit of negative if they're running back into a bit of a breeze. They might just slow up at some stage. Happy to take on Regal Ambition and I think Pinup Sheila is a horse that can win the race albeit I'm not like sold on that form at Ramek out of the Reginald Island. It was okay. Beyond the Reef was good. The rest of them were pretty average on that day. I'm actually going to have a bet on full confidence back to the inside. I think she has well and truly above average ability.
Speaker 2Too short 1400?
Speaker 6At least she gets a gate and she gets a shed. Like we love Harry but Jaya gets on and Harry probably doesn't have full confidence when riding this horse. I would have kept Harry on. No, I agree with that but anyway, it is what it is. And just a bit of a change up for the horse and hopefully gets the opportunity because it hasn't really had its opportunity victim of circumstances more so than anything but the right price to find out for this horse was it $61 Benny?
Speaker 8Yeah, $61. I was just looking at Zachy T. Oh yeah, thank you Gano. Yeah, 61 bucks and you can back up to top seven. Yeah, you can have
Speaker 6a whole lot worse bets than that. So full confidence will be the horse that back and no shock to see Pinup Sheila or Regal Ambition get the job done Dino.
Speaker 2Yeah, especially when bet 365 you've got races one, two and three on Derby, Derby, at Flemington if you run a dozen when you receive your bonus bet back there. So that's a free hit. Perfect. What are you thinking
Speaker 10here Dino? Yeah, I'm agreeing with Benny. I think if there's any time to trust an SP in a group one it is when there's a bias against the horse and that was the exact setup for Regal Ambition there at Caulfield. Gets to Flemington. I'm not sold that there's an issue with the gate. I can see where Gano's coming from and obviously you're asked to take $2.20 but I think she is the best horse in the race and I'm going to back that theory. Let's run through the wakeful here. Scratchings are clear
Speaker 2Zach Tunbridge. Yep.
Speaker 8So the favourite is Ice Lady and being well supported Diamus is there at $3.80 and then you're pretty much out to $8.50 with your colour with J-Mac on. They do like Ice Lady. They backed that as soon as markets went up the other day but they also have had a little bit on Diamus and however you say number four Nick Olive's horse at $26. Benny?
Speaker 7This is such a tough race. I think my initial angle is wanting to be against Ice Lady just hoping that she doesn't quite say the 2,000 metres. Diamus probably goes on top. A horse that is a really big price a couple are backing it as well at Massive Odds is Nicky Trier. I think she's just crying out for the 2,000. A few are in this race and I'll be backing Diamus and probably Nicky Trier but it's a tough one.
Speaker 6Don't think I'll be betting in the race unless they're making up a lot of ground early which you know might be a bit.
Speaker 2They might with the win they tell me you need a little bit of cover. I reckon Ice Lady might just walk in front and make it a sprint home.
Speaker 6That's what I'm thinking. That's the challenge we have. I wanted to find Thar up but I don't think we get the right price too so I'll leave the race there.
Speaker 10Yeah it's tricky. I thought your colour albeit drawn awfully was probably the one on screen for 2,000. Look at the last start effort come from a long way back on that day. Had to be up on speed at Caulfield and the best section or home was the last 200 metre of that Galloper so we just need a bit of J-Mac class doing the J-Mac magic there G. We're going to take
Speaker 2a break here. This is the weekend preview thanks to Maccas and those spicy McNuggets and on the other side of it we're going to have a look at the rising fast stakes. We'll also have a look at race five the Damien Oliver and race six the first of the group ones the Coolmore stud stakes.
Speaker 1Text us on 04009 736 736. This is the weekend
Speaker 2preview all thanks to Maccas. Heat things up with Maccas spicy McNuggets and cool it down by dipping them into the creamy ranch sauce. We're up to race number four on the program. This is the rising fast stakes over the 1200 metres. 20 of these Gallopers to thunder down the straight at Flemington Zach Tunbridge. Yep.
Speaker 8Big field here. Hanky Alpha was backed instantly as soon as markets went up $7 all the way into $4.20. They took 765 now 420 and favourite but they also had a little bit on Napoleonic and one at odds in Meridius.
Speaker 7Benny. another tough one i think hanky alpha $4.20 just has to be under the odds i know it was a fantastic win last time around one by six on that really wet track but jumping from a benchmark 78 all the way up to sort of group three level now i just thought napoleonic had to be favorite he gets james mcdonald back on board who's three from four and he gets the blinkers on first time so he's the starting point for me maybe he's not quite going at his best but he doesn't need to be to win this and sway nest day i can understand the love for it ran a huge splits home first up and can improve
Speaker 6mickey g uh napoleonic can win blinkers you're gonna have your first time what a tease he is please this is the easiest
Speaker 7race he's contested i know but you know what he's
Speaker 6take it away jay well i just think he's one of
Speaker 2those you know if he was a footballer you're dropping back to the vfl and he would you'd think he'd get 45 touches but he wouldn't get a kick you know what i mean yeah sorry
Speaker 6you know i'm done that's fine yeah you're tipping napoleonic no no uh i think napoleon is a good chance blinkers first time j mac down the straight i actually like this setup for him his effort at ram because really really good and i'm you know what i'm buoyed by the fact that you're taking him on so that's good g uh you can stop freight train these days jimmy ricard talk to me about this horse gareth any opinion no you don't take him on at all do you know who
Speaker 2i like in this race if you gave me a hundred dollars i would have 50 each way on the cosmic
Speaker 6one beautiful all right well you do that i'll take that bet uh jimmy ricard for me it's a horse that could definitely jump out of the ground uh zacky t what price we're getting 71 another one a big price you could back on each way based something small so tiny bit napoleonic tiny each way bet uh jimmy ricard we're not spending too much here benny the cosmic one will beat jimmy ricard home i reckon that'd
Speaker 2be great you should can we get a market on that with bet 365 well i'd be three dollars yeah yeah do you know um i'm not gonna
Speaker 10have a bet jim's gonna sit and watch you two in a room battle this out but no no i agree with i agree with benny i think if there's any time napoleonic wins a race it's this set i think the other one that's missed by the market too is golden strand really really good first up somewhat flat second up when went up to queensland back down the straight i like this setup on speed galloper and d lane takes the ride for an informed maddie smith so i think you can do worse things than back golden
Speaker 2strand the damien oliver is race five no pericles or estremo both horses scratch for sydney he's zack yep one
Speaker 8is the favorite but the one they like is persian spirit it's all the way through the end of the race so i think it's a good race and i think it's a good race it's all the way into 650 now was tens and then you've got stepardi and private eye as well but uh most of the money's come for
Speaker 2persian spirit who wins the ollie here
Speaker 10dino yeah i'm gonna lead the way of warny gate one uh i don't think it's gonna be too much of an issue the composition up there it's going terrific i think it's in career best form mark zara aboard and there's plenty in this race to probably have the potential to win the race solving their best but they're not running up to it you've got cafe millennium private eye you got war machine they're probably better horses if you look at a cv but war machine is probably the best horse to win the race so i think it's all the way through the end of the race so i think it's a good race and i think it's a good race running right up to his best and i think that's a big tick
Speaker 6here gonna yeah i'll just be with persian spirit i think he's a genuine flemington horse he's improved every run this preparation they put up ten dollars so we have missed the boat there but i still think at that six dollars fifty he's worthy of a bet willow sticks and some of his best form is flemington uh 1400 meters benny so keen
Speaker 7yeah another tough one i went looking for warny barrier one grade me up a little bit i went looking for persian spirit the price went i'm gonna end up siding with step party who carried 59 kilos in this race last year he now gets 54 and a half he wasn't beaten too far i think he's going really well the first up run behind persian spirit was excellent um so yeah i am pretty keen on step party despite drawing out wide the first of the
Speaker 2group ones the two million dollar cool more stud stakes over the 1200 meters scratchings are clear yes and we have the
Speaker 8next episode at 3.80 if you're logged in you'll see 425 st gothard has had some support at 440 the ones that odds that they like under focus at 16 bucks and doubt time at 19 in terms of the hold though next episode 41 st gothard 37 take it away
Speaker 7ben you're keen on one here yeah i'm really keen on the next episode one of the biggest things when you with straight track racing is being drawn near the speed if you're drawn to the inside and there's no leaders on that side then often the race can all develop on the outside and i think the race will develop on the outside with with this race with paradoxium natural fling pembrey and the like and that'll just give the next episode the perfect card into the race he's got the best turn of foot here i think he'll improve off the first up run and wet or dry doesn't matter so i'm keen on him and i'm surprised you can get four dollars 25 about 365 boosted mickey gannon i'm taking on
Speaker 6the next episode i'm a bit worried ben you're like so who do you think he follows in the run because paradoxium will be leading like he'll get back but i just
Speaker 7think the outside division will be the place the place to follow yeah
Speaker 6i wasn't sure he was going to whose back he was going to get into run i thought he'd be exposed probably 600 meters i have to make the run himself so uh unless we got back to a heavy deck i'm going to take him on which seems highly unlikely i will i think some got that just maps to perfection you can follow natural fling wherever she goes she'll probably be there until 300 meters peel off and go bang blinkers first time ready to explode we've been on this horse for a while benny's been on the next episode so we'll go head to head uh we'll stump up loser can stump up for dinner and i think some got that gets a job done i'd say length and 1.25 lengths from chris that improvement yeah that was very specific yeah i think that's more than enough we got the war woven form dina i think it's i think it's the way to go yeah and you love
Speaker 2backing a cool more horse in the cool more don't you mickey gannon how good was central europe yeah you're all over the switzerland as you should be as you're like you're the cool more number one man i reckon these days mickey g hey jay i
Speaker 7had some guys stop me at the races the other day at flemington they said has gareth uh back central europe the other day yeah probably not no a little bit but not much yeah that's enough i've lost a lot of money
Speaker 2this way i'm definitely not going to central europe because of central europe in fact he's probably cost me a chance to go to central europe but anyway you live strong yeah dino um i agree with
Speaker 10gano's sentiment so i think it's easy to say that he's got the best turn of foot in the race the next episode um but you put it into this race these best wins have come when they've been slowly run races to say the 600 meters and they've just been explosive turn of foot this is going to be one of the fastest run cool malls we've seen in the last few years and we've seen for a long time so you've got paradoxian penbury natural fling steel will saint gothard all rolling out in front i don't think this is a race where you can sit back and go bang if he does that i think the race will be finished and he'll be flashing late and then you double down on that like gano just mentioned who's he going to follow into the race there's no horses out wide maybe steel will if he gets on the back of that but i think it's a tough ask for the next episode and at 360 i'm going to take him on i think the forgotten horse is penbury she was phenomenal first up she didn't handle the two week backup and they said not back straight back to the next episode and at 360 back to the paddock will freshen you up for a cool more she'll land in behind this speed and her trial the other day was outstanding i'll have a saver on saint gothard like gano mentioned i think this horse is flying in that wall woven form will do me as well so backing penbury strongly and saving on saint gothard
Speaker 2i've just got a feeling that paradoxian will do an osmosis am i mad yes i think that he'll be out in front i reckon a strong 1200 he couldn't run out he couldn't do it last time well he was impossible to do it last time when he goes that quick if he can just count to 15 and get him to settle a little bit yeah on that horse woo boy woo boy paradox him and then go jc yes um anyway i i've got to have him in my body do you agree with me dean i appreciate it i appreciate that well
Speaker 10i just think we we look at these straight races and we can get so caught up in that it's oh it's a flashy turn of foot horse where more often than not it's the horse that's up on speed or in the speed that breaks their hearts and it's very very very hard to run over the top especially in a cool more big field yes in a smaller field like we saw first up where they just sit up and it's a sprint home but like you mentioned paradoxing is going to be out in front i dare say there's a stack of them they're going to be up on speed i just think one of those in those leading brigade are going to win the cool more this
Speaker 2year and like he could do a marzoo in a way um catch me if you can i know you're looking at me with that funny grin there mickey gannon i would have loved to have rachel king on paradox again um jason collett does a good job he's just i completely agree i think rachel would have been a better booking for the source yeah um pembroke give me a spell dino you've lost the plot has to start now to win mate that's from reuben me and kingsley are laying next episode boys come on bet for all welcome there you go i just want to know has gareth been catching the train lately because there's been a lot of delays giddy up the whiz flemington if they winning off the pace race 6 saint gothard from steel will race 7 call me air race 8 unleashing to cause an upset that is from billy the boy and my five tips g'day boys i'd love to get the boys opinion on nafa i'll get to that in just a moment tim gareth how on earth do they name a 1200 meter race after one of the greatest days we've seen in this country that's a good point you make paul gareth is like peaky blinds today when he's spicy mcnuggets are a bit upset that's from grinners i don't understand that grinners i'm the mug pun is listening g'day mark um from sydney hey boys you know what happens on derby day um yeah i don't know what happens on derby day um i don't know what happens on derby day um um i don't know what happens on derby day um i don't know what happens on derby day um i don't understand that text message either i don't know what happens on derby day um i don't know what happens on derby day um anyway anyway anyway no keller's he ever won a derby he has no keller's he ever won a derby he has no keller's he ever won a derby he has does anyone know which which one it was does anyone know which which one it was does anyone know which which one it was and keller for the freedmen's yes and keller for the freedmen's yes and keller for the freedmen's yes benicio benicio benicio um he won that derby i don't know what um he won that derby i don't know what um he won that derby i don't know what year it was but he definitely has won a year it was but he definitely has won a year it was but he definitely has won a derby we move on to the second of the derby we move on to the second of the derby we move on to the second of the group ones and this is group ones and this is group ones and this is the three million dollar derby over the the three million dollar derby over the the three million dollar derby over the 2500 meters hierarchy is a scratching 2500 meters hierarchy is a scratching 2500 meters hierarchy is a scratching so he's out the 11. what's the market so he's out the 11. what's the market doing here zach yep so
Speaker 8doing here zach yep so doing here zach yep so stormy marco is the favorite it's 460 stormy marco is the favorite it's 460 but you can get 550 with a boost there but you can get 550 with a boost there but you can get 550 with a boost there if you're logged in and it currently if you're logged in and it currently if you're logged in and it currently holds about 48 of the money uh holds about 48 of the money uh holds about 48 of the money uh cormier has had some support but i must cormier has had some support but i must cormier has had some support but i must mention a number five machete so a lot of Smart money has come for this. It's still around $13 for Blake Sheen and Kieran Maher.
Speaker 6Mickey Gannon. As tough as it gets, Gareth, trying to identify one of these horses who's going to run a strong 2,500 metres. Skewer sort of gives me right place, right times, right trainer vibes. So I'm going to lean there, but I won't be backing it.
Speaker 2I'm more keen to back Stormy Marco. Oh, if you backed him earlier on in the week at a big price, you're more confident now because as Chris Wally's had this race in his mind, so he sort of prepared Stormy Marco for the quick backup to get the 2,500. And compared to what Paul Massara had to say that he said, well, basically this is an afterthought, it's more, we're more hopeful than confident with Cormier. In saying that, Cormier will probably win by five, Dino.
Speaker 10Yeah, well, I wish they could swap Barry's. And if Paul Massara is not keen on this race, and Chris is, I'd love to see him swap Barry's. It's tricky. The 2,500 metre start's awful for these horses. I'm going to trust my judge. And I loved him last week, and they just didn't put him in the race in Sydney. They went back, and we know these colts, when they're out of the race, they're just not interested. So do they push forward? I'm not sure. I'm just going to back my judgment that Stormy Marco is a good horse, G.
Speaker 7I'm backing them both as well, the Sydney colts. I think they might just have a little bit of a class edge. Look, are they going to be genuine 2,500 metre horses in time? I'm not sure, but I don't think many of these horses are in derby. So you can get $5.50 and five. Currently, I've backed them both in the futures. Cormier will sit on speed. He'll be there a long way. And Stormy Marco, he'll be finishing off over the top. If it's not one of those two, I think one of Mars, we'll win it, maybe a Machete or a Skua.
Speaker 2The Empire Roses race out over the 1,600 metres. Scratchings are clear. What price, Lady Shannon Doe? And what is the percentage of market support for her?
Speaker 8It's a lot less than I would have thought. So 62%. 51%. I thought it would have been way more, to be honest. But this was when I looked about 40 minutes ago. But it's $2.50. Surf and Birds, they're at $4.60. They've boosted Surf and Birds. So that's at $5.50 if you want it. And there's been a little bit of money for Concord Connie, Idle Flyer, and the like. Not much support.
Speaker 7Benny? I can't get Lady Shannon Doe marked much bigger than about even money. I think she's a fantastic bet here. Her win with 58 kilos and a Turok was just excellent. She probably won't get as fast a tempo to aim at here, but J-Max hits probably two back, one off the fence. Concord Connie is a really promising horse, but she's getting into a tight price now, $5.50. You've got to forecast a lot of improvement to have her that price. Yeah. So Lady Shannon Doe. Lady Shannon Doe, I think she's over the odds at $2.50.
Speaker 10Dino? Yeah, she's somewhat different grade if you reference the form. I know I suggested last time out that there was a query at a strong 1,600 metres. Well, she blew that out of the park, obviously, in that Turok. Yeah, she's had four goes at 1,600 metres, and they're all terrific efforts. Her out of best should just win this race. I think she's got improvement to come in this preparation, and I think a lot of the grandstand will be on her, Gunner.
Speaker 6Yeah, and deserved. I think she's got a 2,600 favourite, and she should be starting shorter, I'd imagine, G. She could start $1.90. Wet ground doesn't bother her, does it? No. No, that's the only reason why. She ran second in the Russell Boulding, I think. Yes, yes. That was a soft seven.
Speaker 2We're not going to get any worse than a soft seven. I think she's a good thing.
Speaker 6Even if we get 10mm worse than a soft seven.
Speaker 2I ran into McDonald the other day. I reckon this is his ride. If he had to have one ride that he had to win on, I reckon this is the ride he's most confident on.
Speaker 6Where does he get to in the run, Gareth? Doesn't really matter, I don't think. Yeah, doesn't matter. No, he's that confident. There he goes.
Speaker 7I think Idlefly can be an improvement. I know she's not going that well this preparation, but she was three wide no-cover last start.
Speaker 2If she wins, the punters will spew up after last. They jumped out of trees to back her.
Speaker 7She's the only horse in the race at her best. At her best.
Speaker 10Yeah, fair. Lady Shenandoah.
Speaker 6But she won't.
Speaker 10Probably not. She's the only horse to beat Lady Shenandoah over 1,600 metres as well.
Speaker 2Yeah. We're all at our best once upon a time. The Wizard from the West is his tail up. Signetti will win the Derby. And the Fairytale Spring for Pikey will continue. Hi, Gareth. This time of the year can be very stressful. Laughing is a wonderful remedy. Disregard, Aunty Elsie. She's a lovely lady, Aunty Elsie. Thank you, Sue. I appreciate that. From Morty Alley, just around the corner from me. Santana Go, no love at all. If she was Amara Wallahall, she'd be $1.80. Is it the barrier that has you a little concerned with her?
Speaker 6Barrier, strong 1,200 metres. Yeah, she's a good rider as well, and, you know, her form's good, but it's not
Speaker 2the well-woven form. Yeah. I backed King's Knits, Quick Finish, and Skura in each of the 2,000-metre lead-up races and thought the two horses that wanted more ground were Solan and King Winston. Look out for King Winston to my great odds. That's from Pete. Just want to know, has Gareth been catched? We've already read that one out, a few of those text messages that we've read out. On the Gareth's Horse and Hound text line, our Giddy Up Weekend Preview Top Four Multi will stay up for another five minutes, I reckon.
Speaker 8Yeah, well, it will stay up until tomorrow, but the price will go down slightly. -Is it still $8? -$8.55.

Speaker 2Welcome back to Giddy Up, all thanks to Bet365. Can't wait for the Six Horse Challenge. I'm loving that. -Yeah. -So does my mum. It's free to play, $100,000 up for grabs. And don't worry if you don't get six, right? Even if you get four or five, you should. You get some money. Last week, what, 20 customers received $1,250 each for getting five out of six.
Speaker 8Correct. Yep. So you get a bit of kickback if you tip well.
Speaker 2Yep. Races 7, 8, 9, both at Randwick and Flemington.
Speaker 8I think it's 6, 7, 8 at Flemington and 7, 8, 9 at Randwick this week. They changed it up to include the group ones.

Up to race number nine, the Asahi Super. Dry Sprint over the 1,100 metres for the mares. Generosity is in Sydney and Trey Magnifique is out.
Speaker 8Yes, so Generosity, unlucky to those punters because there was a lot of them that backed it. Flying for Fun is $2.80. Bridal Waltz, they have started backing just this morning and one at odds I will mention is Photograph at $19.
Speaker 7Benny Caluzzi? I'm going to give her one more chance, Bridal Waltz. -One more. -One more chance. She's my main bet and I will have a saver on Flying for Fun. I just don't think they've been riding this mare to her strengths, especially last start, just going too slow. She's not really a turn-of-foot horse. She likes to get along in front and get horses out of their comfort zone a little bit. And I think if we do get just the edge off the track, soft five, that is perfect for her. She started even money her last two and now we get $5. Flying for Fun is clearly the one to beat. I'll have a saver on her. If we do get the upper end of the forecast, I don't think that is to her likening. So she'd probably prefer soft five,
Speaker 6soft six at worst. Flying for Fun clearly on top, I think she gets her opportunity here. J-Mac down the outside, which is likely to be the best going, Gareth. -Okay. -Late in the afternoon. I'm not sold on Brighter Walls. I think she's on the way down.
Speaker 10Dino? Yeah, and back to a big old silver wedding. That horse is going super. It just didn't jump first up. Forget that run. And Argylewood, around $41. Forget it. He went around in Sydney. It's got really good straight track form. Down the outside follows Gano's horse, Flying for Fun, who I think is the horse to beat, if you take the price. So two big odds in the last for me, Silver Wedding and Argylewood.
Speaker 2We'll have a Silver Wedding, a gold wedding if Argylewood wins. Mark Connors tipping it along with you, Dino, for O'Shane Charlton. Tommy Charlton gave it a push as well there yesterday. So we'll definitely have that horse in our quaddie. Best bets in Melbourne. We'll start off with you, Mick Gannon. I'm ready to go, Gareth.
Speaker 6-Yes. -Yeah, you wouldn't believe it. We'll go to race five, number 12, Persian Spirit. Race six, number five, St. Gothard. And race eight, number one, Lady Shannon Doerr.
Speaker 7Benny Clues. Is he? Race two, number one, Regal Ambition. Race eight, number one, Lady Shannon Doerr. So we're with the class runners there. And also, race six, number one, the next episode. So I'm backing the number one, Saddlecloth. I think the best horses win on Saturday.
Speaker 2All right, then.
Speaker 10And Dino? Race eight, number one, Lady Shannon Doerr is the best, G. And outside of that, the Coolmore, Keane. Race six, number 14, Penbury. And going to save on the five, St.
Speaker 2Gothard. All right, then, G-Man, backpike, drink what you like. Best wishes to the Wizard for Derby Day, the Cup and the Pinnacles. Such a hard worker. Returned to Bellman in all the midweek and snagged a few more winners and placings. Most folks would have slackened off, but not our pikey. Any news on Stinger Glass? I haven't heard anything yet on the Japanese horse. I've had something on J-Mac Quoddy at Flemington. So that's St. Gothard, Stormy Marco, Lady Shannon Doerr, and Flying for Fun. That is something he can definitely achieve.
Speaker 6How many winners, J-Mac, on Saturday, Gareth?
Speaker 7Five. Gee, just with. Speaking of Stinger Glass, was it confirmed that it did fail one scan and it had to pass another one? It hasn't been confirmed, but.
Speaker 2Hasn't been confirmed. Yeah, and there's always these rumours going around. I do not want to speculate, but if I was a betting man, I will say, yeah, it's having a PET scan.
Speaker 6Yep. Question on Naifa as well, Gareth, a couple of times coming through. Not for me. I'm not a huge fan of her Flemington record.

Speaker 7None.
Speaker 2No. Here comes the
Speaker 7star in the last, Benny Caluzzi. minor sort of place chance. It has one, what a big race Caulfield did. And I think Mark Hunter was keen on the last preparation, but this looks a bit harder. And no love for Surf and Bert on this show.
Speaker 6No, no. Well, look, unless all of a sudden you can just lead and you're off and gone, but just going back to the race here, Ben, you might be able to bring it up before me. There's another couple of speed influences in the race that'll take it on.
Speaker 2Okay. There's a couple, Danny O'Brien's mare will go for it. Sassapiel maybe, but I don't think they're going to go. Oh, Pillow Fight. Pillow Fight and Sassapiel, the horses.

Speaker 2Time for a break. We'll come back with plenty more next. Some breaking news. I think this is it. We're expecting something like this today anyway, but this is unfortunate news for backers of Stinger Glass and the Japanese because Racing Victoria's just released a statement. It reads, Racing Victoria's stewards acting on specialist veterinary advice have this morning ordered the withdrawal of the Japanese train galloper Stinger Glass from the entries for the 2026 Lexus Melbourne Cup at Flemington on Tuesday the 3rd of November in accordance with RV's veterinary protocols for international horses wishing to compete in the spring. Racing carnival and quarantine at the Werribee International Horse Centre. Stinger Glass underwent a MRI scan in Japan on the 26th of August. MRI scans are permitted for international horses only where the high definition and preferred computed temography scan is not reasonably available. In the case of Stinger Glass, Japan does not currently have a standing equine CT scanner. The results of all mandatory scans taken under RV's veterinary protocols are reviewed by an independent panel. They're imaging specialists basically, which comprises representatives from the UK, US and Australia. And three of the seven members are nominated to review the scans for each horse independent of one another. The nominated panel members reported to RV veterinary services at the time that based on MRI scan results, Stinger Glass was suitable to continue his progression through the veterinary protocols and ultimately travel to Australia. After completing two weeks in quarantine in Japan where he remained in work, Stinger Glass was transported to Australia and arrived at Werribee on Monday, the 12th of October. In accordance with the condition of the Lexus Melbourne Cup, Stinger Glass was presented on Tuesday, the 27th of October at the University of Melbourne Equine Centre in Werribee for a compulsory CT scan of its distal limbs. The three members of the independent imaging review panel were assigned to review the scans for the horse. The three members of the independent imaging review panel were assigned to review the CT scan results for Stinger Glass reported to the RV veterinary services that the CT scan results indicated the horse is currently at a heightened risk of injury. So they gave him a PET scan and they had the same concern with Stinger Glass basically. So having reviewed the PET scan results alongside the CT scan results, the panel members have advised RV veterinary services that they remain of the view that Stinger Glass is currently at a heightened risk of injury. So he is out of the Melbourne Cup. So there you go. So no Stinger Glass. It's going to be interesting who gets in now. I'll do my homework a little bit and try and get a list of who's in the Melbourne Cup. But I think future history is in it. Maybe Pinhole that gets a start now. So I'll keep you up to date. I'll just have a couple of minutes to have a look at my notes. But Josh Holt from Channel 10 joins us now. G'day, Josh. Thanks for joining us, mate.
Speaker 11So good to be in Melbourne on Derby Day Eve. How good. It does again. It does any better.
Speaker 2There's plenty happening always is at this time of the year. There's always a little bit of drama regarding the Melbourne Cup horses. So no Stinger Glass and St. George that have been taken out on Vets advice. What about the weather? The all-important weather report tomorrow because there is rain that is predicted at some stage, isn't there?
Speaker 11Yeah, well, it wouldn't be Melbourne Cup without a bit of weather around, Gareth. We know that. And look, I just said to my brother-in-law as I got off the aeroplane this morning, I said, it's pity Derby Day is not on today. It's just absolutely stunning out there. It is going to change, though. We've got a trough low pressure, which is going to move across the state of Victoria tomorrow. Sweeping across Melbourne, probably around about lunchtime, but there will be showers preceding that trough. So showers will start in the morning. They will persist through the afternoon as well. Now, instability also increases late morning, afternoon. That means, of course, there is the chance of thunderstorms as well. So look, if we look at the showers, I'm thinking around about that 5 to 10. Millimetre mark is certainly possible. But if you get a thunderstorm cell moving over Flemington, it could be a lot heavier. Yeah. So it just depends where those thunderstorms are as to how much rain we'll get. But I think on average with the showers, we're looking at around about that 5 to 10 millimetre mark.
Speaker 2So the way that you described it to us there the other day, so 5 to 10 mils, 75% around the 5 mil and then 25% 10 mil.
Speaker 11Yeah. Everyone gets really caught up in the percentages. Yes. I think looking at the latest modelling, we're looking around about that 5 to 10. Look, hopefully it is less than that. Yes. But it could be also more depending on where the thunderstorms are. Whenever there's thunderstorms in a rain band, of course, there are going to be heavier totals in isolated areas. And it's a bit of luck of the draw with that.
Speaker 2So it'll be a rain affected track at some point.
Speaker 11I can't see us not being on a rain affected track. It's not going to be, it's not going to be a good forecast. It's not, I'd be doing your soft form. Yep. If those storms get going and the rain was a little bit heavier, there is a slight chance we could go into that heavy range. But look, fingers crossed we should just be on a soft track.
Speaker 2It's the worst possible nightmare for everybody involved with Cup Week to have rain on the opening day, Derby day because it can cut up the track a little bit. Obviously horses galloping on it when the rain is falling on the day isn't great. So it'd be interesting to see how it holds up for Cup Day. The rail will be out three metres, but what is the weather looking like for Cup Day?
Speaker 11So we get a bit of a break on Sunday. Those showers will ease back. A pretty good day will unfold Monday. A big low is coming across Victoria. So we're, we're expecting a bit of rain as well. Everyone's probably looked at the forecast and seen the 75% chance of two millimetres and the 50% chance of six millimetres. It does look like there is a possibility, depending on the position of that low, we may get some heavier rain than that on Monday. So we'll have to keep an eye on that one, but it certainly is possible. It looks heavier to me on Monday than it is tomorrow. All right. Then what about Tuesday? Tuesday? Good news is the low moves away pretty quickly. So hopefully we get that burst of rain Monday. We can seep through the turf and then we get okay conditions by the time of the Cup.
Speaker 2Is there rain predicted Tuesday?
Speaker 11Look, there might be a bit of a shower around in the morning, but I think you'll find it will clear through the day.
Speaker 2So we'll have a look at Cup Day on Tuesday. It's a cold day. They tell me Thursday as well. It's not a great week in Melbourne,
Speaker 11unfortunately. Yeah. And then the day after Cup Day on Wednesday, we're expecting more showers. I don't think they'll be overly heavy, but they will be around. But the good news is on Thursday for Oaks Day, it does clear.
Speaker 2Okay. And then Saturday, can we, Saturday week or is that two weeks?
Speaker 11Yeah, we're probably getting a little bit ahead of ourselves there.
Speaker 2Ambitious, Gareth. So at the moment, we're looking at a soft track there for Derby Day. It's probably going to be a soft track on Cup Day as well.
Speaker 11Yeah, I would say so. The good thing about Cup Day is it looks like those showers will ease back by then.
Speaker 2Yeah. What's your best, mate? I always love the Coolmore.
Speaker 11I just think it's such a great betting race every single year. And look, I know the Toppy, the next episode will be hard to beat. And St. Goddard will be hard to beat as well. But I'm going hard on Satano Glow. Okay. I think this filly is a bit special.
Speaker 2Yeah. I can't believe Sandra's making you work next week on Cup Week. So you're allowed to work. Like, you've got to go back to work for Channel 10. So next week.
Speaker 11Yeah, yeah. So I'll have Monday off. I'll head back Monday. And then, yeah, on Cup Day, I'll be slaving my guts out on Channel 10, Gareth. Once upon a time. It's a travesty.
Speaker 2Yes. Once upon a time, Channel 10 had the rights.
Speaker 11Yeah. Well, it wasn't that long ago, actually. It was only two years ago.
Speaker 2Was it only two years ago? Yeah, Niles had it for two years now, I think. And you could have done the news all week. Yeah, that would have been great. You could have lived in a birdcage. Yeah. Anyway. Well, we wish you the best of luck, mate. You're very popular on this show because everyone wants to know the weather. Well, it's important when you're punting, isn't it? Yeah, it's very important. Like, if the rain comes, it's a difference. It could be the difference for the next episode, winning or losing. It could be worth millions of dollars.
Speaker 11It's the timing of the rain on race day, too, that makes it a huge difference.
Speaker 2Is it impossible to read to get the exact time when it'll fall?
Speaker 11The exact time? Yeah. Look, with something like a cold front that's coming across Victoria, they're quite easy to predict because the rain band is actually associated with the front itself. When it's a trough of low pressure, you can get rain preceding the trough. Okay. So, yeah, it's a little bit harder to gauge. But I certainly think by around about mid-morning, we should start to see some shower activity.
Speaker 2It's not an exact science. It is, but it isn't.
Speaker 11It is. It's a hell of a lot better these days than it was 20 years ago. It's actually really, really good now. Yeah. But like anything with the environment, there's always going to be that environmental factor.
Speaker 2Mate, we appreciate you coming on. Good luck this week, especially on Derby Day. Hopefully, you're back plenty of winners. There'll be a lot of pressure on you now because people see you on Giddy Up and on Channel 10. Yeah, absolutely. Geez, the punters can be brutal, can't they, if you get it right? It might be four mils and I'll have a crack at you for getting it wrong. I'll tell you what. I did Cox Plate Day. I said 11 o'clock.
Speaker 11And the show's turned up to 11 o'clock. I mean, I don't know what- No, you can't do any better than that, Josh. I can't do any better than that. Unbelievable. And I said close to five. I think we got about four.
Speaker 2So- If you miss out on the top four multi, like I did last week, well, turn your phone off for a good day. Good on you, mate. Thanks for joining us, Josh. Good luck this weekend, mate. And we appreciate you coming in.
Speaker 11Thanks for having me, Gareth. And good luck to all the punters. It's a great week.
Speaker 2Enjoy yourself. There's Channel 10's Josh Holt. It's 49 minutes past 10. Country Corner next year on Giddy Up.
Speaker 1This is Giddy Up with Gareth Holt.
Speaker 2It's a busy show. So with the news that Stinger Glass didn't pass his scans, future history is in for Greg Hickman. Jamie Malm's been booked to ride. Kislyar is next in line and then pinholes after that. So at the moment, yeah, future history replaces Stinger Glass. There's a few more horses that have got to pass their trot ups in the next couple of days before final acceptance is there on Saturday. But yeah, Stinger Glass is out. Time now for Country Corner. Country Racing has got it all this spring. For tickets and more info, visit country.racing.com. Josh McGinnis from CRV joins us now.
Speaker 12G'day, mate. G'day, Gareth. Good to be with you. You must be getting confident. They're dropping like flies for Tuesday. How are you feeling?
Speaker 2I can't wait for it. I'm so lucky and grateful to be involved in the greatest race of all. Absolutely. The rain, I've got a big smile on my face with that weather report from Josh Holt. So that'll suit my horse, or our horse, I should say. So yeah, bring it on.
Speaker 12Good luck. We wish you well. But no, one of the great weeks of the year, but a huge day tomorrow, Derby Day across Victoria. A couple of Country Cups and a few of the real iconic days, Witchy Proof Cup Day and Mortlake Cup Day. They run the Derby Day races at Terrelgan and Healesville as well. So plenty of racing across the state. If you're not heading out to Flemington, there's so much to choose from. It's a huge week for everyone involved.
Speaker 2Just outside the Mallee is Witchy Proof. Austin Coffey will join us in just a moment, but can't wait to hear the stories coming out of Witchy Proof this weekend. It's an iconic race day in country Victoria.
Speaker 12Exactly that. The once-a-year event in Witchy Proof, home to the world's smallest mountain, of course. Gareth, you know all about the Mallee region.
Speaker 2Yes. It's the only town that has that. It has a railway go right through the middle of it. Incredible. Yeah, railway line. So there you go.
Speaker 12How about that? But no, a ripper afternoon. This is a town of 600 people. There'll be about two and a half thousand out at Witchy tomorrow, and it's 10 years on from Harry Coffey when he really made a name for himself. He rode six of the seven winners on the card. Five of them were for his old man, Oste, who we'll hope to chat to shortly. He'll have to join us now. Yeah, and you can don the black and white of Derby Day. You can go there, or you don't have to. Anything goes at Witchy Cup Day, and it's going to be a ripper of a day, and right across the state at all the other meetings as well. It's plenty to choose from.
Speaker 2The great man, Oste Coffey, now joins us here on Giddy Up. Hello to you, Oste. G'day, Gareth. It's a bloody great day, Witchy Proof Cup Day.
Speaker 13Yeah, no, it certainly is. It's been good to me. Yeah. But no, we have a great day there.
Speaker 12What is it, Oste? What is it, Oste? What is it about Witchy Cup Day, and some of these obviously smaller clubs, but running on Derby Day, what is it about Witchy Proof Cup Day that makes it so special?
Speaker 13Oh, I'm not sure, mate. It's just it's probably in a great spot in Victoria, too, to get them from, you'll walk through there and see people from Kyneton and people from Mildura there, you know? It's sort of in a great spot, surrounded by good people.
Speaker 12And it's obviously the scene of one of your, you've had plenty of big days across the country circuit. Country Cups. But it's 10 years on since Harry dominated, winning six of the seven, and you won five of them as well. You rode five of them for yourself. What are your memories of that memorable day 10 years ago?
Speaker 13Yeah, geez, if you'd have told me it was 10 years ago, I would have told you a lie to me. I can't believe it's 10 years. But no, that was a great day. Really good. We had a great time. We had nice horses there. A couple of them went to Adelaide and won after it and that. And they're only just winning there as well. So it was. It wasn't a walkover, but we had a good time.
Speaker 2And it's good to see you back, Austie. You had a little bit of time out there from training horses. You were driving buses, they tell me, and Harry around. But good to see you have a couple of runners in recent times.
Speaker 13Yeah, I'm only a Saturday trainer. I'm still a bus driver, Gareth, and I'm still. I'm only just hanging in there as a horse trainer. But I think I'll keep a couple in work. Blokes have dog sticks and fishing boats and Swan Hill, but I can't come at either. No, you get bored.
Speaker 2You get bored if you weren't doing anything. Austie, any winners? Should we be having a bet there on Saturday with your runners?
Speaker 13Oh, I don't know. I probably haven't got the A-team there, mate. That's for sure.
Speaker 2All right, then. So, Bannerton, is it going to Mildura or Witchy Proof?
Speaker 13He'll go to both. Okay. He'd be disappointed me if I was driving out of the yard without him on that weekend.
Speaker 2Yes, yes. So, Winds of March, will he do both meetings as well?
Speaker 13He could do, yeah, for sure. If he pulls up good from Witchy, he'll definitely go to both. All right, then. Yeah, he might be my best for the day, I'm hoping. He worked pretty good the other morning, I thought. So, yeah, hopefully he'll get amongst them.
Speaker 2And do you know what? This could be Harry's year, Melbourne Cup. Yeah. Shockwood's flying, isn't he, Austie?
Speaker 13Yeah, I'm not going to say one word about it, mate. I'm just holding my breath.
Speaker 2Yeah, we're keeping a lid on it.
Speaker 13I like horses with no weight on them in the Melbourne Cup. Yeah, I reckon. And it runs through the line at the end of every race it's been in, doesn't it?
Speaker 2Right throughout, we go through the Mallee. Don't want to get ahead of ourselves, but we should all have a picture of Harry Coffey winning a Melbourne Cup one day, whether it's this year or down the track. But he's won a Caulfield Cup, and let's hope he can win a Melbourne Cup as well.
Speaker 13Oh, too right. That would be fantastic. It would be a dream. It would finish the whole show off, wouldn't it? Yeah, bloody oath, mate.
Speaker 2Have you been to a Witchy Cup, Gareth? No, I haven't, actually. The Ryan boys tried to get me there. Yeah, they tried to get me there the other year. Because they all go to the Birch at Pup after. Yeah, yep. But it's on Derby Day, so it's really difficult. But I've got to get to a Menangatang Cup. I haven't been there for years, and also a Witchy Proof.
Speaker 13You've got no excuse.
Speaker 2You can get on the triangle and get to the Menangatang Cup. A hundred percent, or I could jump in the car with you and get a lift. Yeah. Good on you, mate. We appreciate you coming on. You're a bloody legend, Austi. Good to see you back at Witchy Proof. And yeah, go and get him, Harry. No, thanks, boys. There's Austi Coffey. What a legend.
Speaker 12He's a champion. Isn't he? Just such a wonderful character. And the family are incredible ambassadors for country racing and racing in general.
Speaker 2I'll take a break. We'll continue on Country Corner straight after this. This is Giddy Up. This is Country Corner. Thanks to CRV. racing has got it all this spring for tickets more info visit countryracing.com um one of our listeners there ed says the mansfield picnic's ready to go gee the sun is out in the town he's pumping that's from

Speaker 2been a good recipe for success it's been a good recipe for success it's been a good recipe for success uh the bendigo cup heading into the melbourne cup on the short backup yeah especially
Speaker 12in recent times i mean knight's choice used it as as his final lead in and we saw some bendigo cup winners run really well in in the melbourne cup in interpretation and high emotion yeah and so you are he's going to put himself on speed could you imagine the scenes if if bjorn won the the cup on tuesday he'd be unbelievable he'd be going mad but no he'll get him with a reasonable weight and yeah he'll he's a live chance yeah all right then

Speaker 14stories and stuff like that yeah and um yeah and um yeah and of course lots of lots of little bit of stuff like that that's what racing's all about you work at racing.com you write a few and the small parts, which I love. Do you have a winner for us, Dars? Oh, jeez. I
Speaker 2put you on the spot, he didn't think you were coming on.
Speaker 12He liked a couple of the Coolmore runners in the, in the big, a couple of the Yulong runners you were talking about.
Speaker 14Yeah, you certainly, you certainly put me on the spot because I can't remember the name of the one. The one that's not Paradoxium. Under Focus. Under the focus, Chris Lee. Possibly people were a bit soon to say you couldn't get the $1,200, so I'll have a couple of bucks each way on that.
Speaker 2Gate one's the only concern, but I like the way you're thinking there at a good each-way price. Good on you, Darce. We'll catch up with you later on. Hey, Josh, love the hair, mate. You just keep dominating that hairstyle.
Speaker 12We'll play with it whilst we've got some, Gareth. It's tricky times these days, but no, we're looking forward to big week, G, and can't wait to get out on course all across Victoria.
Speaker 2Where are you going this weekend?
Speaker 12We're here, there, and everywhere. We'll be up at Witchy. Oh, will you? Yeah, and then I'll be in Wang on Tuesday for their cup meeting. So it's always a race day to go to. Good luck. It's the best time of year.
Speaker 2Love your work, mate. Enjoy yourself. Good on you, Jake.
Speaker 12There you go.
Speaker 2There's Josh McGuinness and Darcy. Good on you, Darce. Josh from Horsham, just repeating his tips. Race one, number one at Kilmore. Mortlake tomorrow, race three, number 10. And at Witchy Proof, race four, number four. NT Thoroughbred Racing. It's simply the best racing entertainment in the territory. Andrew Toole joins us. G'day, Toole, man. Gareth, how are you, mate? Good, thank you, mate. Happy Derby Eve. Alice Springs tomorrow.
Speaker 15Yeah, good card. Really good card. And thankfully, talking to the team there this morning, the weather they had about the middle of the week is cleared and they should be in for a really good day there tomorrow. So six-race card, getting underway, 125 Northern Territory time. They'll get a good crowd on course as well.
Speaker 2All right, then. Take it away with your best bets.
Speaker 15Yeah, I like in the first, I'm a three-million-year lover for Kerry Petrick and young Lek Maloney beat a similar field last time, including Yule Point and Vatican Rose. The extra 100 metres, I think, will suit the source even better. Millionaire lover. I suppose the only one he hasn't run into is Veronia, but I think he can go back-to-back. Number three, millionaire lover. The shorty of the day should be winning race three, number three, Golden Tunes. He's won four out of four in Ellis and all by big margins. This is his biggest test. He's up against the open handicappers, but there's only five opposition, and I think he'll be winning again, but you won't get rich. Jess Booth rides race three, number three. And in the last, I mean, in this horse's camp for a while, and it hasn't had much luck, and I'm going to give it one more chance, race six, number seven, Matron Sam Singh, not given the greatest of rides, I must say, last time. And Janusz Luxemann goes aboard this time. So with even luck, I think it can get over the top of the motor, the 1,400. Race six, number seven.
Speaker 2Beautiful, mate. We might catch up with you on Tuesday. One of 30-odd meetings happening in the country on Tuesday. They're racing at Fanny Bay, of course, in Darwin. It's a busy time, mate. Got close with the Birdman last week. Got close. Yeah, very close, the Birdman. Yes, very close. I thought you were home there for a sec anyway.
Speaker 15Yeah, me too. Never mind. Not to worry.
Speaker 2Cosmic Crusade will probably back up into the Darwin Cup later on in the year, so you might get to see him.
Speaker 15You just never know. You never know.
Speaker 2Thanks, mate. Thanks, mate.
Speaker 15All the best.
Speaker 2Time for a break on the other side of it. Jane Iver with her tips from New Zealand, and Ascot, our preview of that meeting in the West with Terry Leighton and also Peter Anthonis. Welcome back to Giddy Up, big weekend of racing in New Zealand Coming up there tomorrow afternoon, we're at Otaki and Taronga in New Zealand. And Jane Ivel joins us, all thanks to, of course, Racing NZ. Wake up with New Zealand Racing. Kick your day off with a Kiwi bet. What's gambling really costing you? Hello to you, Jane. Happy Derby Eve.
Speaker 16Yeah, same to you. Exciting weekend ahead.
Speaker 2Take it away with your plays this weekend.
Speaker 16Yeah, a couple at Otaki. That was sort of the meeting that I concentrated on. Race 3 is where we're kicking off, a benchmark 75 over the 1,200 metres. And the rear row is the galloper I've put on top. He's made a terrific start to his four-year-old season. A couple of runs for a couple of wins. I know it's hard to win three in a row, but he's lining up in a field where I think he can potentially do that. He's tactically very versatile, so I don't think the draw is going to be a concern for him. He's got a pretty good turn of foot. So he's one golfer that really puts his hand up as their best bet at that meeting. Going for a bit of odds, too, in the mix in this race with Sinbin. She comes back in grade after an unplaced run through shop. That was her first start for a new stable. I just like the fact that she's back to 75. She was really competitive in this grade. If she can get anywhere back to her top form, she might be able to give a little bit of a sight in a race like this. 1, 2, and 9 in race number 3. Race number 5, Open 14, I've gone with Amazing Sun. And I thought, to the eye, he looked like a black booker last start, and the clock certainly backed that up. Fastest closing section was over the 1,400-metre trip at Hawke's Bay, and he was beaten by a couple of really nice horses. Kelly Meyer's ride, she's in form, and her strike rate with Lisa Ladder over the last 90 days sits at about 20%. So amazing sun in race number five, 4, 13, 2, and 5. And then just the one bit at Tauranga that's in race number two, the maiden over the 14, and I've got the 10 purple strike on top. I thought his debut was pretty good. Ran Hong pretty strongly in second, covered a lot of extra ground, was a little bit new. Shadow Roll goes on, and I think stepping out to 1,400 metres is really going to suit 10, 9, 12, and 4 race two at Tauranga.
Speaker 2At Tauranga, so race two, number 10, and then at Otaki, race three, number one, race five, number four, Jane. Enjoy your weekend. Enjoy Cup Week.
Speaker 16Yes, certainly will. One of the best weeks all year, so looking forward to it.
Speaker 2And then New Zealand Cup week after that, it never ends, really.
Speaker 16Yeah, look, we're lucky in New Zealand that we roll straight off the back of what is a wonderful week in Melbourne, straight down to Rickerton for some of the best three-year-old racing in New Zealand. So, yeah, busy couple of weeks ahead.
Speaker 2Good on you, Jane. Thank you. There's Jane Ive. We'll wake up with New Zealand racing, kick your day off with a Kiwi bet. Tune into Racing WA TV on 7plusandracing.com, the ultimate destination for everything racing in the West. Great meeting at Ascot. In fact, this is a great time of the year in Perth because you've got the Burgess Queen meeting on Cup Day and we've got the Prince of Wales and the Asian Bow meeting Saturday at Ascot. Terry Layton and Peter Anthonis are ready to go. Terry Layton, hello to you.
Speaker 17Good morning, listeners. Yeah, no. Exciting time in Perth at the moment. And, yeah, looking forward to Saturday's racing. Looking forward to the Burgess Queen on Tuesday. Looking forward to a meeting at Gero and Bunbury. It's just a great time to be alive.
Speaker 2It is a great time to be alive. Hello to you, Peter Anthonis.
Speaker 18Yes, morning to you, G Hall. Morning to Terry and everyone at home. This is a good meeting. It's one that's got so many angles to it, and half of it's going to be a bit of the forecast as well, a bit like Flemington, G. So we'll wait and see how much rain falls Saturday morning, and then we'll adjust for what the track update is first thing.
Speaker 2The Prince of Wales is the first of the features. Immortal Bliss with bet $3.65, $2.80. Talking Co. that was placed in a quokka last prep at $3.00. Twisted Steel at $4.60. Kraken Time 13, Maddie Girl at $15.00 here. Who are you backing, Peter Anthonis? Or who do you like in the Prince of Wales stakes?
Speaker 18Well, I've just seen that Oscar's Fortune's come out, so that's just throwing things into a list. A little bit of chaos just in terms of where that horse is going to map. I thought they might have actually just tried to ride him with a little bit of a sit, and potentially that was the case. But look, on paper, I think this really sets up well for the horses on pace, G. And as mad as this is, I'm going to have something on the three-year-old Dawn Dancer. I think if he can cross early and quickly, there's a whole heap of runners here. Cut the talk, Thermosphere Lad. I don't know how well they're going, and the horses back and behind them, say like you're talking, Co., Kraken Tom, I'm Immortal Bliss, even a Maddie Girl, they're going to have to negotiate traffic. I think if Dawn Dancer brings his best, he can get away with some cheap splits and cause a little bit of cheat. But that's the only angle I have here in this race. It's otherwise the best ride's probably going to win.
Speaker 2Dawn Dancer for Ryan Hill and Victoria Corver. Love that. What are you thinking here, Terry?
Speaker 17I think Pete might be unwell, if that's what he's coming up with. That's a concern. No, actually, I don't mind the theory behind that. No block theory, the couple behind that are going to stop on you, like cut the talk and make it harder for the back markets. But no, I thought it was a three horse race. I had talking Co. as the one, but the forecast changes that drastically. It's actually a meeting. I've only got two main early bets, but a lot of these races, we can have a look how the track plays, because up to 15 mil, this could be a wild pattern. It could be really on speed and they're very hard to catch. It could be you need to get way off the fence. This is probably the first meeting for the year. I'm actually really excited to determine a pattern. And see how it plays, and there could be a lot of good late betting opportunities, I think.
Speaker 2Yeah. All right, then, Asian, who are you tipping?
Speaker 17So nothing. Okay. Talking Co. is my tip at this point. Talking Co. definitely, at this point in time. But the forecast with what Immortal Bliss did on that heavy deck, not long ago, definitely favours Immortal Bliss. So in my mind, it's a two horse race. But no, I can see Pete's angle.
Speaker 2Asian Bo is usually traditional lead up to the railway, stakes over the 1400 metres. Favourite here is this winning machine, Hot and High. Currently at $2, Awesome Boy $4.80, playing at Sweet $5.50, Bonjoy $10, Hurricane Harley $10, Zip Away $29. Eccentric Nature $34, in good order at $50 to $1. Terry, can this favourite just continue on her winning ways?
Speaker 17Yeah, of course she can. Like she, I thought the win was a fall in job, and it was to some degree, but she was pretty strong in the last 50. She was definitely going away from playing at Sweet again late, but playing at Sweet, it does get a nice weight swing on her. But the further she goes, the better. The low draw in theory should suit without a heap of speed, could lead or park on Awesome Boy if they decide to go forward. But we have to remember, Gareth, Awesome Boy should have won that race by three lengths. And Awesome Boy was a sort of a 72 plus horse at best. So do we think that's the best form reference? Or do we back in Bonjoy carrying weight, obviously less suited at handicap level compared to SWP. But do we back in Bonjoy, who's now getting out to double figures, and is probably going to be cuddled up, three of the fence handles a wet track as the point of difference and the value. So look, I've had something small Bonjoy each way. It doesn't feel like a winning bet, to be honest with you. I'd be throwing Eccentric Nature in the Aquatis from a map point of view at sort of 40, 50 to one by the time they jump. But yeah, hot, hot, noisy, obvious, but no way could I get $1.95.
Speaker 2Yep. All right then, Pete.
Speaker 18Yeah, you can't bet into this race as far as I'm concerned. There's no leader on paper unless they roll with forward of Awesome Boy, but the crossover noseband's still on and he went so well, coming from the back of the field last time. So this looks like a mess, Jay. All credit to whoever wins because they're on track for a railway, but the rest of them, it's going to take a heap of luck and running.
Speaker 2The best horses could be outside of these features on Saturday, especially in the Cerise and White like Clockworks, the favorite in race number five with Bet365. She steps out to the 1200 meters here. She's in race four at 270. We get to see Weston Miss. And then in race six, in the Placid Arc Prelude, you got a fire of Gidgee Coles. The Caracatta winner at 2:30. What are you making as your plays this weekend, Terry?
Speaker 17Well, first of all, anyone that's loading up the 365 price, a fire of Gidgee Coles for the Placid Arc, I've just seen it's still the best Australia-wide by parents. Warbucks is such a big price because they don't forget after this, they're going to go back to set weights. So he's carrying the big 59 at the moment. They're going to go back to the levels for the sexes. So I just think that's a huge price. I've been happy to have that. I've been taking 350 when I can get on during the week. So, but the two bets for me are race number two, Bondi's future. I'm always wary of second up long break, but he had four trials leading into that first up run. So I'm sort of less worried about that in this situation. He was grabbed by Weston Miss late, who obviously the market has a big opinion of, and there's no Weston Misses here. And the main danger, Lynchpin, it's just been announced. He's got a bar shoe going on. So there's clearly been a setback in the last two weeks. There couldn't be much more in Bondi's futures favor. I think it's an even money pot and we're getting four bucks. So happy to bet there. And it's also early in the day before the Southwest till he kicks in. So there's no real issue with him punching, punching into the breeze. So, geez, I just think we have to bet there. And if he does put a flat one in second up, so be it at four bucks. And in race number six, Zafira Gijikos. I think he's a proper dollar 60 pop. I know he's going to have to win from rearward and this isn't the grand final, but I don't think Oren Bell crosses Hans Adios. And Oren Bell's trial on Monday, it's first of all, a massive concern. You're trialing a horse on Monday mid prayer, but it was horrible over 850 meters. The first up run I thought was pretty plain. I just think the market's coming on past data rather than how the horse is currently going. So I think a Zafira Gijikos should be a dollar 60. So pretty keen to get involved with that pair at sort of 230, 240 and four bucks. And it's a $10 multi. I genuinely think the multi could be three or $4. So they're the two for me. One of them win. It's a good day. -
Speaker 2So that $10 multi, 260, the boost horse as well. We've bet 365 for a fire of Gijikos, Pete. -
Speaker 18Yeah, I agree with what Terry said. I just want to see how the day unfolds. I'm just a little bit wary of a fire of Gijikos. He was such a big flashing light first up. And I'm just always wary of horses run a bit flat, second up sometimes if they're on track for grand final later on, but I can't really find anything to beat him. So that's the way I'm looking at that race. My only plan of the day is race five, number three, Spicy Fang. It was a dead quiet. It's a dead quiet trial there. It's the first full prep for Trevor Andrews. Clint was on the trial. He sticks here in a race. It's just got so much speed. You've got Anaconda Jones. Lucky I am. He's angelic. Gigi Pops scream. First Beach led in the trial. Like there's just so much speed on paper that I just think that if Clint gets a clean run with Spicy Fang, that should be almost lights out. So race five, number three, Spicy Fang, the one and only play outside of Dawn Dancer to try and give some cheek and lead and win for my old mate, Boy Hill. -
Speaker 2I tell you what, Pete, you've got a haircut. You trimmed up the beard. You're ready to go for cup week. You're looking splendid. -
Speaker 18You're right on one front. I haven't trimmed the beard at all. - Okay, must be the hair then. - It doesn't get any attention these days. Yeah, and I'll be wearing a t-shirt and shorts for Derby days and maybe some flippers as well. So I'm looking forward to it. -
Speaker 2Don't you ever change. Good on you, Pete. Thanks for that. - Cheers, Gareth. - There's Pete Anthonis and Terry Layton. Good on you, Tess. That's a look at that feature race, me and Ascot there with Terry Layton and Pete Anthonis. Preview more for Ville with Heath Pope, Lincoln Moore, and we'll have John Kelton's best bets as well. -
Speaker 1Join the conversation. Live across Australia, this is "Giddy Up" with Gareth Hall. -
Speaker 2The big weekend in racing in South Australia as well. We've got a feature race meeting there with the Jonny Letts on Tuesday. A list of race worth $125,000. $25,000 in Adelaide. Good benchmark racing there on a Saturday afternoon. Heath Pope, he's back on a Friday. Always great to catch up with Popey. He joins us now to go through his best on Derby Day in Adelaide. Hello to you, Heath Pope. -
Speaker 19Yeah, good morning, Gareth. -
Speaker 2Where do we start with your plays, mate? -
Speaker 19Mate, best bet of the day. Let's start off in race three, number three, Rebel Tuesday. Now, genuine tempo, small field, Noel Callow riding, all pluses for this horse. Now, looks really well-placed to turn the tables on checkout, mate. Makes that horse two and a half kilos better. Just looks like a really nice setup here. This was a horse that just struggled in Melbourne with the better quality races. Now, dropping back to South Australian company. I think, mate, this horse is a $2.80 chance. -
Speaker 2Beautiful race three, number three, Rebel Tuesday. What price is it there with bet $3.65? Tuesdays around 3.10, so it's been well supported there. What else have you got for us, mate?
Speaker 19Mate, we're going to go to race five. Now, I think you know who I'm going to tip here. Now, it's number six, Mesrua. Now, it was a late scratching last week, Gareth, so bear with me here, please. Now, this horse, it's basically one of these horses that invariably flies under the radar, hence why I do tend to tip this horse a fair bit. Now, this horse does have a really good fresh profile. Its first up run when we did tip it at big odds, it charged home for a placing. It was a really nice each-way play then. It's a really nice each-way play now. I do have it settling, importantly, a lot closer to the pace from this better draw. Second up record, as I said, it's five starts, two wins, a second and a third. I think this is a pretty, it's a very suitable race, Gareth. Now, I've got to rate it a good each-way play at $8 or better.
Speaker 2All right. Then beautiful. We're getting $11 for that galloper. God bless it. What else have you got for us, Popey?
Speaker 19Mate, another each-way play here. We're going to race eight, number 10, grueling now. Again, this horse, first of all, comparing it with I.M. Ralph, who is the eagle favourite here, grueling, importantly, meets him two and a half, sorry, three and a half kilos better at the weights from that last start run. This is a horse that always puts itself in the right position. It'll settle handy up on what doesn't look to be much tempo in this race, Gareth. Now, also fourth up from a spell, it's ready to peak. I think this will give us a really good each-way sight, and I've got to rate it a $6 chance.
Speaker 2So that's race eight, number 10, grueling, around $8.50 there with bet $3.65. And the final of your specials at Morphaville, Popey?
Speaker 19Yeah, mate, pretty keen here. Race nine, number 13. Violet Lovebug. Now, this horse resumed in a much tougher benchmark 80 race. Now, it had no luck. I mean, it was climbing all over the place getters' heels. The final 250 metres never got out. Dropping back to a benchmark 70 after the climb, it actually gets in under the minimum. It just gets another really good map here. That last start run also, the former's been franked big time. Holy Racket's come out and won again nicely. So, yeah. It only needs even luckier, and I've got to rate it a $4.50 chance.
Speaker 2So, Travis Dowdle was on Giddy Up yesterday with SA Time, and he was bullish about Violet Lovebug as well. So, we're getting $5 there. So, big tick for the Lovebug. All right. Then anything at Flemington, Popey, for us before we let you go?
Speaker 19Yeah, very quickly. I do like Napoleonic in race four. I do have to give special mention to Gallant Sun. No one's talking about this horse. I think it is the clear value play, and that race also I'm keen on Stepati in race five. Wasn't far away in this same race last year with 59 kilos. It's now only got 54 and a half. I think it gets in really well, and obviously Lady Shen and Darren race eight value. I'm not so sure, but they're my early plays.
Speaker 2I know Peter Moody was keen on Lady Shen and Gallant Sun. He said make this horse his $100 staking plan with his $100 bet there yesterday on Giddy Up Stable Mail. Beautiful. Napoleonic's hard. Catch then. I don't know. Louis Clifton these days. Stepati and Lady Shen and Dale are your best as well there in the Empire Rose. Head to sectionaledge.com.au. That's www.sectionaledge.com.au to get all of your pricing for Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide, Popey, and away you go.
Speaker 19Absolutely, mate, and we're this close to having an app ready as well. Oh, sensational. Yep.
Speaker 2All right. They're the only tools you need. You can analyze the prices, see where the value is, and then back accordingly. Absolutely, mate. Go and get them, Popey.
Speaker 19Will do, mate. Good luck. Big weekend, everyone.
Speaker 2Good luck. There's Heath Pope. Lincoln Moore joins us now. Tune in to Frontrunner for all things SA Racing, wherever you get your podcasts. They've been on fire, the lads of late, and Lincoln Moore joins us now. G'day, Lincoln. Good. Thank you, mate. Had a great chat with Travis Dattel there yesterday. He talked me into a few of his horses, including the Love Bug. So hopefully she can get the job done that last race at Morphaville. What do you like, mate, this weekend?
Speaker 20Well, it is one of my plays, but I think my two best there a bit earlier in the day. The first is race four, number one beyond Misty for Rich and Chantelle Jolly. I thought this horse was pretty good first up from a spell behind Bohemian Angel. They tried it in listed grade last time in, and it wasn't disgraced. That was in the Rodelva Stakes during our carnival. So I just think from that good barrier, it can be very hard to beat. That's race four, number one beyond Misty. Then go race five, number three, extra fling for the David Jolly and Justin Potterstove. I've got a bit of time for this horse. I think it's certainly right up to winning city races. He was beaten first up at Balaclava, but was forced to cover a bit of ground on a pretty strong tempo. And I just think from a good gate with tight panel riding tomorrow, it'll be very hard to beat. That's race five, number three, extra fling.
Speaker 2Beautiful race. Four, number one, race five, number three. And you can on race nine, number 13, Violent Love Bug there at Morphaville tomorrow.
Speaker 20Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, I'm with Poppy. I think it looks very, very hard to beat. Forget it went around first up from a spell. Never saw daylight. She should be unbeaten first up, but she's a pretty talented fill-in, I think, from that good barrier. She'll be very hard to beat. I've got one other each way. That comes up race seven, number two. Shady thinker for the Aaron Bay and Ned Taylor stable. This is another horse that didn't have a lot go right last start. It ran second behind Time Quest. Was good at its previous. It gets to the 1600 for the first time. I know we had Aaron on the podcast yesterday and he was quite bullish about it. Shady thinker. It's his time to stand up. I think tomorrow at Morphaville and at the each way price. I'm more than happy to back race seven. I'm a too shady thinker, mate.
Speaker 2And wherever you get your podcast from, just type in front runner, all things SA racing. We can listen to you and the team each and every week, mate.
Speaker 20Absolutely. Spotify, YouTube, it's everywhere. So make sure you tune in. As I said, Aaron Bayne was on this week along with, who else did we have yesterday? We had Joe Lewis talking about his runners over in Melbourne. So it's, yes, he's a good man, Joe. And he always gives a lot of good advice. A lot of good insights. So they've got Churchill Rose obviously going to that weightful stakes, a race that's been good to the stable over the years. I think this is the fifth year in a row they've had runners on Derby Day. Obviously the Derby was their big one a couple of years ago, but I'm sure she'll acquit herself well at a big price, Churchill Rose, because she hasn't done a lot wrong here in Adelaide. And her run in the Hillsmith was very good there last start.
Speaker 2If she stays as well as those boys did last week at the Giddy Up lunch, and then she'll be mighty hard to beat there for the Gluers team. And the McCall of team. Good on you. Stay all day for sure. They do. Thanks. Good on you, mate. See you. Johnny Kelton, thanks to Racing SA, likes race five, number three, Extra Fling, and race seven, number eight, Shadow Eagle. So five, three, seven, eight. We'll take a break. Bag of tips next.
Speaker 1The Giddy Up Bag of Tips for Oz Equipment Rentals. Buying equipment to the construction, mining, and roadworks industries.
Speaker 2ozequipment.com There's a big bag of tips today thanks to Oz Equipment Rentals, the Ultima Hotel, and Bet365. Brent Serafa at Kilmore today likes race six, number one, Superstock, and Japanese Mokka race four, number four. And at Pakenham tonight, race six, number 11, Simply Steffi for Sam Lyons. Race eight, number 12, the Flying Pop-Off. And Kippus race five, number three. Luke Ovenessian at Walker. Race five, number seven, Hey Deer. And race seven, number four, Sister Shea. At Moree, race four, number two, Decker's Latest. Minimal, race six, number six. And those are his best bets there at Moree, so four, two, six, six. Nick Noonan at Launceston tonight. Agadou, race 10, number two, and race three, number five, Jagger's Edge. So 10, two, three, five for Nick Noonan. Harness Racing from Swan Hill. Race three, number seven, Storms Collide, the tip there from Darren Carroll. Harness Racing, New South Wales, the home of the Carnival of Cups where Australian music rules who meets quality harness racing action. Race seven, number seven, I'm a boxer at Wagga for Amanda Randall. And race six, number three, Paige's Boulder at Newcastle. And Glenn Moore on a big nine of harness racing from Gloucester Park. Group one action. Delightful Peg, race two, number one, Minstrel, the star. Race four, number four, race five, number five, I'm Stealthy. Race 10, number three, Grace Eller. So two, one, four, four, five, five, and 10, three. And he's each way bets come up. Race one, number one, Classical Alley. And race seven, number 11, Always Changing. So race one, number one, race seven, number 11. Dean Evans now joins me here on Giddy Up, winningedgeinvestments.com, professional betting education, tips and ratings, so you can treat your betting like an investment. It's the biggest week of the year for Dean Evans and his team, and he joins us now. Hello to you, Dino. Morning, Garth. How are you? A good filly to you. Are you backing her in the Oaks? You probably already have.
Speaker 21Yeah, she's a superstar filly. There's not many fillies like that that in their first prep can win, whether they're on a hot tempo, whether it's a slow tempo, whether they race forward, whether they race back, whether it's wet, whether it's bone dry. She's a rare, rare filly, and I think she's pretty exciting.
Speaker 2Let's have a look at your bets this week, and we're going to analyze a few races that you've identified, you really like there over the weekend we start off with the first race at flemington it's the Carbine Club Stakes. You've got Unhinged at $3.40, High Falls at $5, Star of Macedon at $6, Conquer the World at $7, The Roaring Sun at $7.50, Glenorchy at $11, Mr. Whiskers at $15, Fast Freddy at $19, Strong Tempo at $31. This has been a race that's been dominated by one man in recent years, and his name is CJ Waller.
Speaker 21That's right. He's had five winners from 16 runners at 55% profit on turnover on this race. He's won it pretty easily three of the last five years. Jay Maxx won it twice a couple of times, and I think they can do it again here. Unhinged looks the one to beat. Since I started riding him cold his last two starts, he's put together two impressive 1,400-meter wins at Kembler Grange and Rose Hill. He's run over seven lengths above standard time for the last 800 meters in both of those wins. He was the quickest last 800 of the day in both of those wins, so he looks really promising. He's fifth up, which also has the best betting profile in this race at 50% profit on turnover. But nothing's ever won this race coming off a maiden last start, and that rules out about half the field immediately. In a race that Waller loves to win, I think Unhinged is really hard to beat. They have sort of come for him, but I have a feeling he's going to drift back out in the market just based on how the ratings are looking and that sort of thing. I wouldn't be diving into him now. I actually think he'll get back out, and he might even get to the $4 plus.
Speaker 2So good push there for Unhinged there for McDonald and Waller to kick off Derby Day. And then the feature race is the $3 million Derby. Stormy Marco. $4.60. You get a boost of $5.50 with Bet365. Cormier, $5.00. True Rebel, $8.50. King Snits, $12.00. Vallis at $13.00. ICU at $13.00. Machete at $15.00. Skua at the $15.00. Cignetti at $15.00. True Tone, $19.00. The Philly Quick Finish at $19.00. And then you go out to Russian Rock at $26.00. And Ritter Empire for Team Hayes and Harry Coffey at $34.00. How do you see this year's Derby, Dean?
Speaker 21Yeah, look, Cain. I've done a couple here, both at nice sort of double-figure odds, $14.00, $15.00, and both trained by Kieran Marr, Skua, and Vallis. Looking at the lead-up races, the spring champion has run 1.5 lengths below standard, and Proxima Deer is a really good winner for us, and she's excellent. But I believe the race was weak apart from her. The Norman Robinson, they ran 8 lengths below standard. The Geelong Classic was 11 lengths below standard. And the Vars was 3.2 lengths above standard. And I think this is, you know, in the full field here, this Derby, I think they're going to run pretty quick here. Most importantly in that Vars, they ran 12 lengths above standard for the first half. And the horse that led under pressure the whole way was Skua and stuck on really well for second. He's bred to stay. Same sire and same breeding lines, actually, to Observer, who won this race for Marr and Godolphin last year. I believe the further, the better for him. He's drawn wide, but he's drawn just outside. Quick finish, he should lead. So I can see him just getting across, following it, hopefully ending up in a nice trail and getting a bit of cover. And I think he looks a great bet, Skua. And the other one, Vallis, has been set for this race also by Maurice, who's won a Derby for Marr before with a Totsu. He hit the line really well for second in the Superimposed. And then he led against his usual pattern when he was second beating the nose in Norman Robinson. I suspect he'll settle further back here. He's been Mark Zara's Derby horse all the way through. And I'm really just surprised with the way Kieran Marr's dominating, particularly in this staying race, is that both of these runners who profile so well are, you know,
Speaker 2double-figure odds. Yeah, and they are big prices, aren't they? We've been on Skua since he was 50 to 1 when Andy McIv gave us a push there all those months ago. We're giving him a mighty cheer. But, yeah, I'm sort of scared of the Sydney Silas, but not as much after hearing you now. So there we go. We'll take them on on Saturday. I'm on Stormy Mark at a double-figure price. So hopefully he runs a little bit better than you suggest. But it is an interesting Derby.
Speaker 21I think he's a danger. Like, he's sort of the third pick. You know, he does look a Derby horse. If there's one from Sydney that I think is going to come and run well, it's him. But just at the prices now, you know, if you've got double-figures without him, that's a great result. But at the prices now, I think Skua and Vallis are both really nice bets.
Speaker 2I love the Russell boarding race 7. Interesting race. Headwall 420 with bet 365. Jimmy Star 460. Ninja at 5. Graf DeBerners at 9. Hedley Grange at 10. Cabela's 13. Pericles 16. Spicy Martini 23. Mahuna at 23. Jokers Grin at 34. King of Rousseau at 34. Jokers Grin at 34. Jokers Grin at 34. Yellow Brick at $51. So you've got a mixture of the Sydney Stakes and Everest form lines coming together here as they step up and trip here, Dean.
Speaker 21Yeah, pretty easy race to profile this one. We've found the winners the last couple of years, and six of the seven winners of this race have come out of the Everest. The only other one was Bella Nipatina, who came out of the Sydney Stakes, but then won the Everest the next year. So it makes it easy to profile. I think, you know, Jimmy Star won this race for us last year and was actually winning in Manicato for us so far this spring. Well, again, and the Everest just got too far back. He's clearly the class horse here. He's drawn wide, but he gets back anyway. The strong tempo here is really going to suit him. Ethan Brown back aboard is a big plus, and I think he's just very, very hard to beat. I think really the only danger is probably Headwall. He was just so strong in the Everest running fourth. He gets a really nice map to the midfield here on the strong tempo, and so if Jimmy Star doesn't run to his peak, then I think that he's the danger. I'm a fan of Ninja, but on the profiling, it's tough for a four-year-old here. They haven't won before. I'm just with them. The map and his sort of profile. I think next year is going to be a big year for Ninja, but I'm going to bet around him this year, and so I just think it's a good betting race for Jimmy Star to win and maybe save on Headwall.
Speaker 2So 440 Jimmy, Headwall $4.20. SCN, we've got a winning edge competition. We're teaming up with you, mate. Tell us all about it.
Speaker 21Yeah, last chance to enter basically today. It's a Derby Day tipping competition tomorrow, and the winner gets two tickets to the champion state into a marquee, premium food and beverages all day for you and a friend and hospitality at the 350-meter mark. That's valued at $2,860. And then the first-place finisher will also get a share of the prize money that Thorbjorn earns in the Melbourne Cup, 1%. If he doesn't run, then we'll make sure we get 1% of the prize money from him in the other races he contests. There's still the champion stakes, the Queen Elizabeth, the Zipping Classic, plenty of other races for him if he doesn't run in the Cup. But at the moment, pending a vet check tomorrow, he's still. scheduled to run in the Cup. And the top 10 also win a.
Speaker 2I think he passed today, my mail is. Has he passed or not? I think he passed today.
Speaker 21Well, I got mixed. We were told he was getting checked today, then we were told he was getting checked tomorrow morning. And we haven't got anything as I reduced yet.
Speaker 2All right, then.
Speaker 21But, I don't know, hopefully you're right.
Speaker 2We'll just wait and see.
Speaker 21And the top 10 get a accommodation package with Fun Escapes worth around $1,000 as well. So just enter the Derby Day. All the terms and conditions are either at winningedgeinvestment.com on the homepage or at sen.com.au slash win. Join in there in the Derby Day Tipping Competition and a heap of really big prizes for SEN listeners and Winning Edge members.
Speaker 2Well, go and get them, Dino. You enjoy the biggest week of the year, mate. We appreciate your time as always. Who's your tip in the Melbourne Cup?
Speaker 21Look, at the moment, I think Trust Your Instinct, Sons and Lovers, and. Chocolates are probably the top three for me. But wishing you all the best too, mate, with James J. Braddock. I appreciate that. Have a runner and. Yeah. Yeah, have a good day.
Speaker 2I'm nervous already, but Trent Mason has just sent me through this. The Gay Waterhouse and Adrian Bott train, Vorben, Danny O'Brien train, Litsteel, who had not passed as suitable to accept yesterday, were re-examined by a panel of RV veterinarians this morning and now passed suitable to accept tomorrow. Litsteel is unlikely to get a run, however. Thank you, Gareth. It's brilliant news. There you go. So you're in the cup, mate. The dreams are live. Geordie Charles booked a ride as well. Yeah, well, they've got something to cheer for on Tuesday. I hope you run second to James J. Braddock. Love your work, brother. Thanks, mate. Yeah, let's go now. Cheers, mate. There's Dean Evans. Time for a break. Nick Ashman, Scotty Amor and Josh Rotter next.
Speaker 1Text us on 0499 736 737.
Speaker 2Nick Ashman has sent through his best all day, every day. He says, get on ICU in the Derby, race seven, number nine. So race seven, number nine, ICU, each way all day for Nicholas Ashman from thebeatenfavorite.com. Scotty Amor, the jump out king, is ready to go as he gets set for a big weekend of racing as well. I don't know where Scotty is. He's about to tell us. He joins us now, live.
Speaker 22Hello, Scotty. Hiya, Gareth. How are you, mate?
Speaker 2I am well, brother. I can't wait for tomorrow's specialty cup day. So where do we start, mate? Where do we start with your specials?
Speaker 22We'll go to Flemington, the Coolmore. Our best bet there is St. Goffard. I think they'll run this along at very good speed. He'll love the hot tempo. He'll be just behind them. His older brother won it. And I think he'll be winning tomorrow. He was very good. He won it in the Golden Rose. And I think he'll be better suited at the 1200 than the 14 that was there. And, yeah, he'll be going to stud next season after he wins this.
Speaker 2The full brother to Switzerland to do what his brother did and win at Coolmore. Blinkers go on. McDonald and Waller hard to beat down that straight. I love the confidence there from you, Scotty boy. And then we go to Ramwick on Golden Eagle Day.
Speaker 22Yeah, we'll go to Ramwick for Russell Balding. I really like him. Ninja here, I fought out of the runners. He's the one that's going to most appreciate the rise to the 1300. I thought his last bit of the Everest was very good. From the wide barrier, I think they'll ride him a bit colder, and he's got a lethal turn of foot, and I think he can get the prize tomorrow. Beautiful.
Speaker 2So that's Ninja in the Russell boarding. Taronga is the feature meeting in New Zealand, and you found one for us there, Scotty.
Speaker 22Yeah, we'll go to the last at Taronga, Bulgari. This horse has improved with each start, this preparation. Third up, Opie Bossamon. I think they'll really run this race hard, and he'll be getting back. He's drawn out wide, and he can motor home over the top of these. He was group placed as a three-year-old last season, and I think he's ready to run a great race in an each-way price tomorrow.
Speaker 2So that's race eight, number two there, Bulgari. Hey, you're a bloody star, Scotty. Who have you got a tip for us in the Melbourne Cup,
Speaker 22mate? A little bit early, still doing a bit of a form, but I quite like Juba Kiko. I thought his win in the Moonee Valley Cup last week was excellent. He was great in the Metroff. I think he'll put himself into a nice spot in the run, and he'll give you a great run for your money, and I think, yeah, at this point in time, he'll definitely be in my numbers. I think point of law, he impressed me. I think he'll get Geelong, and I think he'll be very, very hard to beat as well. So Kieran Marr, I think he could try Victor next Tuesday.
Speaker 2He could train you to win a New York marathon as well, I reckon. Scotty's on fire at the moment, Kieran. Now, what happens when we follow you in, mate?
Speaker 22When you're back with Virginia, we're all the bling.
Speaker 2You go and get him, Scotty. Happy Derby Day, mate. There's Scotty Amell. The Sportsbet Peninsula Cup, Mornington Racecourse, this Sunday, November 1. Tickets are just $25 at Ticket Tech. The MRC's Josh Rodder. He joins us here on Giddy Up. Hello, Josh. Good morning,
Speaker 23Gareth, and good morning to all the listeners in the land of Giddy Up.
Speaker 2Yes. Peninsula Racing at its best, the Peninsula Cup on Sunday. It's worth $100,000. The weather's going to be better on Sunday than it is on Saturday, which is good news.
Speaker 23It is, Gareth. Peninsula Power, one of our biggest race days on the Mornington Peninsula. We have the Mornington Cup early in the year, and this is as big in terms of attendance. We're expecting around 10,000 people. The young ones will be out there ready to party, ready to rock as they listen to the decks getting spun by DJ Topic, a top international act. So not only will there be action on the track, but also off the track in that hard-rated zone. There'll be a dedicated fashion and social precinct. $25 tickets via Ticket Tech, and that's the place where all the young ones will be. And the Peninsula Reserve is one that I think is probably the best package you will get in spring anywhere in Australia. $190 includes admission, beverages, local food trucks, DJs all day, and you're right there on top of the action at Mornington. That's the beauty of Mornington Racecourse. So how much
Speaker 2for all of that? $190. Wow, that is terrific
Speaker 23value. So, you know, it's the time for the Peninsula to party, and springtime in Melbourne, there's no better time, so why not do it at Mornington?
Speaker 2And let's be honest, everyone takes Monday off in Victoria anyways. We get set for Melbourne Cup Day, so you can party on, have Monday off.
Speaker 23Josh? That's it. Straight through the long, long
Speaker 2weekend. Yeah, and then you're dressed up today. You're going to the Carbine lunch, or some lunch, I would imagine?
Speaker 23Heading to the Carbine Club lunch. Haven't done it for a long time. It's nice to get a berth, so looking forward to that. Yes. Yeah, so it's a fantastic weekend for the sport, and I look forward to celebrating with everyone, and good luck to the VRC. I did want to mention, Gareth, Equine Pathways Australia, a really important partner of the Melbourne Racing Club and its foundation. Exciting news that Equine Pathways Australia has been nominated for the International Equestrian Federation Inspire Award. Julia Baddams there at Equine Pathways Australia does a magnificent job, so 50% of the final decision is done by public voting, so if anyone's got a little bit of time there, you're on your computer, get on there and vote. Please encourage those listeners to get out there and vote for Julia Baddams and the team at Equine Pathways Australia, fei.org slash awards. They do a power of work for equestrian sport and really changes lives of many people that want to participate in equestrian sports. They might not have that ability physically at times, but yeah, Julia does a great job.
Speaker 2Yeah, well done, mate. And who's your tip during Derby week?
Speaker 23Derby week. I want to see what the weather does tomorrow at Flemington. Before I tip one, I think as earlier mentioned, I think Kieran Marr's got a mortgage on the Melbourne Cup. I've just got to pick which one, so I haven't decided
Speaker 2yet. Okay. Will you let us know when you do decide?
Speaker 23I will, Gareth. Thank you. All right,
Speaker 2brother. You enjoy Carbine Club lunch. One of the great days. Be a thousand people or something like that at the casino. I know Jason Richardson's hosting. He's ready to go. So enjoy it, mate. Have a few beers for us. Drink wisely, however.
Speaker 23Thanks, Gareth, and good luck in the Cup on Tuesday with your runner.
Speaker 2Mate, I appreciate that. Living the dream. It's going to be great fun. We'll cross our fingers and toes. There's Josh Rotter from the MRC. We'll get Louis Clifton and Paulie Sebastiani to join me as we wrap up a big week. All thanks to Lillydale Instant Lawn, Australian family-owned quality turf delivered on time, every time. Our roots run deep. Paulie Sebastiani, well done this week. You've been superb. Thank you, Gareth. Stepping out for us at Flemington. And then, yeah, I appreciate all of the family as well. I know people say that I say I appreciate too much to say I'm American these days, but anyway. You're American? What? Yeah, you know. What? Who was giving me some of them? A few people giving it to me today. But I love the Giddy Up. I really do love the Giddy Up family. They're so good. Heaven forbid you thank someone for doing great work and engaging with the show, Gareth. We've had thousands of text messages. I reckon into the thousands this week of our text messages. Way more than that. Yeah, it's been brilliant. Way more than that. And so I love them joining us every day. We try our best to provide all the information. No, no, we don't try, Gareth. We do. Yes. That's what we do. We don't try. As Yoda once said, there is no try. Do or do not. What is the best all day tomorrow at Flemington? Oh, St. Gothard. Just hope that the rain is not as bad as we are thinking it may be. If Josh Holt's a good judge, there's going to be some rain around. Yeah. Great work, Pickle. Thank you very much to whoever that is. Hey, Louis Clifton. He's had a week, Louis, hasn't he? He has. He's got his best mate, Sammy Walsh, on the show. He's got to get rid of that hair.
Speaker 24Big show. Big week.
Speaker 2It has been a big week. Mark Hunt has been in good form. He has got a personality since he's come on this show, really. Yes. He hides it a bit, but he does. He actually does. He loves it, doesn't he?
Speaker 24Yeah. What's your best? Gareth, I'm wanting more rain. So I was happy to hear Josh Holt say he thinks we'll be no better than a soft. So I'm race four, number 20. 20. Hanky Alpha down the straight. Cindy Alderson. And I'll be backing Paradoxium each way. I don't think he wants it too wet. But if he can get a soft lead and not do nine, eight second bloody furlongs. Eight seconds pretty quick. Oh, mate, he was nearly doing eight. If he can get an easy lead, I think he'll be there for a long time. I agree with you. He's at a big price.
Speaker 2You didn't agree when I told you yesterday. Yes, I did. I've been a big fan of Paradoxium. I backed him to beat Satona Glow there the other day, and she was too good. She's probably going to be, she's not the forgotten horse, but none of our experts tipped her today. Josh Holt liked it. Josh Holt was very keen. He did, didn't he? He's a weatherman. I don't know if you call him an expert, but he's. He's a weather expert. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But in saying that, everyone's an expert at this time of the year. What's your best? I like the Roaring Sun in the first, each way.
Speaker 24Who'd you copy Mark Hunter? Is that why? Chris Waller copied me.
Speaker 2Chris Waller. Yeah. I've been all over it all week. I wish I got the 20 odd dollars. I hope Stormy Marco runs a big race, I think, Lady Shenandoah will win.
Speaker 24I think from earlier in the week, you were saying you need J-Mac to have a big day, don't you?
Speaker 2Well, I just, yeah, I need him to have a big day. I hope that James J. Braddock can win the Cup now, if it's a soft track. The Cup's going to be interesting. As I said, on the Monday morning, we've got Gator, who will review Derby Day, but will preview Cup Day. And then after that, we'll have a weekend preview for the Melbourne Cup Day. Kevin Blake will join Mickey Gannon, Benny Caluzzi, and Zach Tunbridge. I think Dean Watling will be there. Means test from 10 to 11.30 with Wayne Hawks and Johnny O'Neill, and then we'll finish off the show with our regulars. And then Tuesday, we'll have a Giddy Up Stable Mail for the first hour. I'm ahead of Cup Day, and then we'll have Mark Hunter for the Hunter's Edge for an hour between 9 and 10, and then we'll have a big bag of tips as we go right across the country. 300 meetings on Tuesday. Good luck getting through all of them. Paulie, good luck to you, mate. Go well, mate. All the best. Good on you, Louis Clifton. Gareth. Thanks for your company on Giddyup. Have a great day.
