Speaker 5gareth yeah no pretty quiet this week no uh obviously uh yeah a bit to catch up on there this week but um powered through and uh looking forward
Speaker 2to sunday yep so um the rail is out 13 meters that's been well publicized over the last few days how do you think your track will play
Speaker 5yeah as you said rail out 13 uh last time we were at rail 13 was a fair while ago uh 13th of april 2019 so um i did um curiously have a look back at that meeting actually raced rather well so um although not the conditions are um absolutely the same um albeit the fact that you know we raced uh raced a week ago there and there is um some marking uh on those inside sort of three or four lanes there so i don't suppose i'll hold up
Speaker 2all day all right then so if we didn't have that drama like we did last week the row would have been what 11 meters or 10 meters yeah likely 10
Speaker 5meters and that was the plan certainly leading up to that so i think it's going to be a lot of fun into it so um obviously the fact of what transpired on saturday hasn't allowed us to uh to follow through on that plan but uh um certainly clear ground for them this sunday um in that side straight and home turn which is obviously a really high use area so um as i said once they once they head into the straight it wouldn't surprise me if they would start looking down
Speaker 2the middle of the track are you nervous if the rain comes on the
Speaker 5saturday uh looking at the forecast as mike just alluded to it sort of it's been bouncing back and forth pretty much all week so um looks like we'll get rain sort of morning and afternoon there tomorrow which is you know obviously further away from the race there which is more ideal for us so um certainly if it's in that three or four mil range um you know we'll probably be the high side of a good track potentially just tipping it if it goes into a soft track and uh the more rainfall you know sort of be in the depth of that soft track range so um yeah i mean we're certainly in the lap of the gods when it
Speaker 2comes to that and sunday it's
Speaker 5a fine day sunday overcast um and i think a little bit cooler than we've sort of experienced the past two days but uh most notably a south easterly wind 20 to 30 k's okay then
Speaker 2so will there be any patterns there because of the wind then
Speaker 5yeah that's south easterly is more of a diagonal wind and there's certainly non-variant um and any part of the track but if it turns more towards a southerly we know that um there's assistance out of that 12 shooting down that home straight so i'm sorry side straight so certainly something to watch out for
Speaker 2yep so basically they'll be getting off the fence down there of the track and um if the rain comes they might be getting even wider on that saturday if it's a soft track basically
Speaker 5yes indeed we will be aerating the outside two meters of the track there so i'm still allowing 15 meters of galloping width but as i said there is a little bit of marking there on the inside from last race meeting so it wouldn't shock thanks for your time as
Speaker 2always sam thanks gents as sam bennett said it's been interesting week it has yeah you walked the track last week i did yes what did you see well you
Speaker 3couldn't miss the plugs because they were quite evident when you walked it yeah um when i i walked at thursday lunchtime and i didn't think about safety at all it was more the inside lane was definitely softer where the plugs were it was quite a bit softer than the rest of the track yes only my thinking was it was only one lane i thought between lanes two and six or seven were really good and so i still thought it would be an on-speed track and that was thursday lunchtime so it had the rest of thursday they were going to mow friday they had 23 degrees and it was going to be 26 and a northerly on saturday so i figured the inside would certainly dry out as to how much i wasn't sure so i just said you know mark sarah walks the track himself 99 times out of 100 every now and again he'll be fried from wasting i might walk it and we always talk about the track and i just said look the inside soft and now thursday but you've got two drying days it's going to dry out just can't make sure you're going to have a look at it see how much it's dried out and then the next i knew i was walking down the main street of yarrawonga at 11 o'clock and you rang me and said the rails been so when i walked to thursday the inside one lane i thought was softer yeah i thought it was i still backed after walking and i still bet on the track and i still back lindemann and porter two leaders so i didn't think after the rail was moved no no i'd already back lindemann beforehand okay yeah i wasn't scared to back a leader on that caulfield track i i had it down as being softer in lane one which you listen to brent sir rafa's interview with um sam i think he pretty much said the same
Speaker 2i think everyone said the same you said that on this show last week if i can recall that you said that on this show last week if i can recall that you said that on this show last week you could still back leaders but you'd want to be getting off the fence slightly well i didn't i
Speaker 3didn't bend down try and rip up plugs or do anything like that or uh you can't get down that far he's up i just i had it down as being softer but we had 48 hours of drying weather so i didn't
Speaker 2know how much it would dry yep and the track after all of that played pretty well you would have backed a few winners i would imagine saturday one
Speaker 3winner and 19 losers but i ended up just in front for the day so yeah good old angel capital rescued the day you always tell me we can't look back we're out 30 meters it's tricky here because you're going to have some wear and tear on the inside you've got gallops from tuesday at a little bit wider and you've got the aerated part out wide so and we've got a forecast that's who knows i've done the form for like a soft six and i'll just have to readjust on the run later in the week if the rain doesn't come yeah a couple of the big chances later in the day are reliant you know it can change sass appeal giga kick uh perfect 10 it can change a lot of horses chances depending on how much rain comes so we're dealing with a very tricky situation leading into sunday so you
Speaker 2don't want if it's been aerated you don't want to be completely out wide but you probably want to be down the middle of the track
Speaker 3well they steer you away from that because they don't want in the old days at flemington and corford and other tracks they would steer to the outside the ambulance track which was really compact and yeah yeah yeah so you've got traffic jams and it's dangerous yeah uh if you come down the center at corford you have had gallops there tuesday not a stack of horses but enough for I should have asked them.
Speaker 2They don't know why they had Gallup's there on Tuesday.
Speaker 3In a couple of weeks, all the Sydney horses coming down have to be allowed to acclimatize the Caulfield. Get a look at it. Yeah, I can understand that.
Speaker 2What do you do?
Speaker 3Say, no, you're galloping on the Heath. You can't say that. So we've got a very tricky situation leading into Sunday. Yeah. But there's still winners to be found. I'm sure there is.
Speaker 2Just hopefully we can manage that. I'm looking forward to the program. It is the Valley coming to Caulfield, basically. Wow. Yes. Tales of Times at 270 with Bet365. And you know what? It's not what you want, but the track played absolutely sensational, I thought. The track played well. Yeah, last week.
Speaker 3The reality is for a group one day, you don't want to track out 13. Correct. But we're dealing with what we're dealing with. Yeah. And move on and do our best.
Speaker 2Tales of Times at 270. Jabadar at $5. Amon at $9. This is the first for the three-year-olds over the 1,100 meters. Bugsy at $10. But Jest has been impressive. But Mark Hunter won't give it up. I'm not giving it any credit because it's South Australian form. Shooting break at $13 and come together at $16. Gin twist at $19.
Speaker 3I'm working on the theory that Bugsy's running next Saturday. I heard Big Price is interviewing him.
Speaker 2Yeah, so you put a line through him.
Speaker 3It was terrific last week, or last start, and it would be fourth pick. So we'll leave it out because we don't think it's going. Going to go 5, 11, 6, but not much between them. Number five, Tales of Times. Everyone's been on soft ground. They've all been good. Had the big weight first up at Sandown. Never really going to lose. Sat behind them in the best part of the track. Fairly soft win. Now it's fitter. It's drawn for a beautiful run here. So we'll go with it to beat number 11, Jabba Dar, who terrific win up the bush. Chased our natural fling last time. It's like Kelvin or Tony got straight on the phone and said, listen, they chased a good horse. We can work wonders with this horse. It's trailed well, and it's got good speed. So it'll be up there and run well. This horse, number six, Bar Jest. Look, no disrespect to Adelaide jockeys, but even the leading jockey, he's over there, would struggle to get one ride on a Saturday card here. So Jamie Mellum jumping on is just, it's all with Pretty Baby. It's just a massive plus for the horse. This is a good horse. I don't know where it gets to in the run. If it has any luck at all getting a drag into the race, it's got a great chance. It's a nice horse. So I'll go 5.11.6.
Speaker 25.11.6. We had a chat to Johnny Kelton about Barges yesterday. He says he's still learning a little bit. That draws awkward for him.
Speaker 3Yeah, it's got nowhere to be. It's posted. There's a lot of horses who go forward and it's most likely to get posted. But look, if you can just get that right drag into the race, it was outstanding last time. The little kid didn't do anything wrong. He steered it well, but Jamie's, Jamie would win. It's an upgrade. She'd win the premiership over there by about.
Speaker 2I'm just going through those South Australian jockeys. Todd, Todd, um, panel's pretty good. Noel Callow. Yeah.
Speaker 3Jake Torek. Even Noel Callow. Harry Grace. Noel Callow's probably the best rider over there. Yeah. He would be, he wouldn't get that many rides on a Saturday. No. No. So who would get a ride on a Saturday in town here?
Speaker 2Um, yeah, there probably no one really.
Speaker 3No. So Jamie's, Jamie's a massive upgrade on anybody that comes across. Um, how good is this Tales of Time? Should we back him for a cool more? Well, I know the stable or the trainer thinks it's quite comparable to Streisand.
Speaker 2Yeah. So that means Streisand won't go in the cool more. Why? Because why would you long? I don't. Why would, why would you long have a filly beat their colt? A lot of water to go under the bridge before the cool more. Yeah. Um, that's an interesting little race. Did you put Amon in the, your numbers?
Speaker 3No, Amon won well at Bendigo. We'll get to over the bridge shortly. But when you compare the times, Amon was a fair way behind a horse like over the bridge. I would think this is a harder race.
Speaker 2All right. Then what about Gin Twist?
Speaker 3Well, with a rail at 13. Maybe. You're not going to pot a leader that gets the front. You just might skip away when there's traffic jams behind it. But Gin Twist was a little plain first up. The back end of 1100 is the query for Gin Twist. Yeah. All right then. So your mates, sorry to let them down.
Speaker 2Yes. Race number two, the Jim Maloney stakes. Pretty baby. She's $2.10. She was awesome there the other day. Um, regular ambition, $5. Cherry bombshell at $6. Platinum pearl at $8.50. Buy choice at $11. Ruby's choice at $12. Now she's very good. Pretty baby. She probably wants the rain to come on Saturday as well, being a daughter of Barbados. Is she unders, however, at $2.10 if the rain doesn't come?
Speaker 3Well, she had one go on the dry. That was debut. Wasn't hopeless, but her outstanding form has been on wet ground and she went a heap better when Jamie jumped on last time. So she can win. I think there are three good chances. I'm with number 10, Regal Ambition, who I think is a really nice horse. Should have walked in on debut up there at Ballarat. Missed the start. Got the outside charge time. First up at Sandown. Missed the kick. Got knocked over after the start. Real slow run race. Back on the inside. Had to push his way clear and make a long, sustained run. Stipulation, who we saw win during the week. It's no hack. It kicked. And Regal Ambition just kept surging and surging to get the job done. Now the issue is, got a good barrier. It's been tardy away in trials and jumps. So if it ends up back and buried, the race might be off and gone. But with any luck at all, I think Regal Ambition is a great each-way play here to beat four pretty baby. If the rain comes, it's going to be up there. It's not fast away either. So it's going to be back half to third. But it will have clear air to get out wide. Will run well. And one cherry bombshell. Got to prove itself at 1,400 metres. Looks like it will run it. Plane first up. Much better second up. Is ready to fire. Platinum Pearl would be the other one to mention. A bit like Ice Lady. And the rail out. Get up on the speed. Get a great run here and now. It'll give you a good sight. But this is a harder race. So I think 10's a good horse here.
Speaker 210-4-1. A few horses won't go. What I love is one of those that'll be scratched, you would imagine, from that wide gate. Did she surprise you how good she was, pretty baby?
Speaker 3Well, the race and the day worked out beautifully. And the rain came and softened the track. So she had everything in her favour. She won very well. She's a promising horse. She's clearly a very, very good wet tracker. Let's see how she goes when she gets on a dry track.

Speaker 2I'm with you with Regal Ambition. There's some big wraps on this galloper. It's a good horse. Yeah. $5.50. It's a good enough price to find out, I reckon. Well, $7 when I come into work. Oh, was it really? How much money have you got these days?
Speaker 3I didn't back it. It's all the $7.
Speaker 2Race number three is the Jaray Cup. How can you follow Dark Bonnie? It's at $4.40. He was scratched there the other day. He needs to win this to get into a Caulfield Cup. Royal Supremacy, $6.50. Future History at $6.50. Suntour at $6.50. Mick Price made a good point about see that storm. If it's dry, you back him. If there is any sign of moisture in that surface there at Caulfield, put a line through him. Detonator Jack, $8. Sapphire Siren, $11. Land Legend at $19. Smoke and Romans at $20 to $1. Autumn Mystery, $31. We bet $3.65. And Torre Zeno at $34. New Look at $34. And Blond Star at $34. And one of my favorite places in the world, Newfoundland, is at $50 to $1.
Speaker 3Tough race. No opinion. Won't be playing. I'll go $11.32. $12 and $1. Number 11, Dark Bonnie. We'll give it another chance. It was good. Good two starts to go winning. Sent it forward early the other day. Then things turned pear-shaped from there. It was still a bit plain up the straight. Been back to the jump outs. We'll give it one more go here to be $3. Detonator Jack, I think he's going great. I know he's placed in SA Derby, but he's got to run a strong 2,000 meters. That's my little query there. 12 Autumn Mystery, I think he's going really well. You love her. Well, it was good. Second up, got home on the fence at Flemeth and ready to fire. And one Royal Supremacy who would like rain comes out of that hot race first up off a little break, did well, and will be fitter. So 11-3, 12-1 without wanting to bet.
Speaker 2I think most of these horses want rain. Well, a few of them anyway. Dark Bonnie's an interesting one because he won two starts back, and we all thought he could be a sneaky Caulfield Cup chance. Then since then, it all went wrong there at Caulfield, and then he was scratched, and then he's – he's back at the races here trying to get that place into a Caulfield Cup.
Speaker 3Somebody had the one hiccup at the last start where Jamie sent it forward from the low gate. It just didn't work out. Zara went around and put her in the pocket halfway around. Yeah. You know, the thing was laying on her up the straight. So it was a forgive job jumping from 1,600 to 2,000 third up. But it's time for Dark Bonnie to stand up if it's going to have any influence.

Pretty Baby was winning here before Jamie Carr took over, or Malum. It was a sit and steer job for her.
Speaker 3Well, I think Jamie. That's a good point. Yeah, it was.
Speaker 2I think Jamie would be leading jockey in Adelaide if she was there fairly comfortably. Yes, yes. But everyone deserves to have, like everyone should have an opinion. That's what we pay you for. Yep. Let's move on. We're up to race number four. The Scarborough. stakes. Now this is a good race. I'm in love with the filly here, Mark. Over the Bridge, she's at $2.70. Chez Yarn at $4.20. J-Mac takes the ride from a wide gate. Scintillation at $8. Garners of Cannes at $11. Sunbliss at $12. Calamari Ring at $13. Dead Sea is trawled nicely at $15. Lucky Brook at $19. Big cheer out a few of the team at Grigorelle. They love listening to this show. Big fans of Lady Brook, who's probably slightly disappointing now, I reckon, the other day. Lady Catalina at $29. And then Mull of Kintyre, most likely, not going around at $31. And I am Aria. Gator Man gave this horse a tip there at a price yesterday for Gator's game plan, Mark.
Speaker 3This is another one. Gareth been backed off the map this morning, even. Number 12 over the bridge. It was outstanding up there at Bendigo. It ran good time. It sat behind them, was really strong through the line. Was down to run the 1,400 tonight at Cranbourne, save for this 1,200 here. I think it's a nice horse, and I think it's the one to beat. Number two, Gaean. As you said off air, J-Mac lucky to keep the right up to that display in Sydney. But Gaean, you could argue it maybe should have won the Blue Diamond. And first up was just no guide really wide. It's fitter for the run. We'll find out where it's at here. Eight, Jadzia. Nice horse. Won well on the synthetic last time. You would think Jadzia needs dry ground, or it might be in trouble, judging by that failure two starts ago. So 12 to eight. Next best would be. Number 10, Sun Bliss, who ran beyond tails at the time, ran well first up. And 11, Simply Steffi, who should have walked in at Sand End, went for a rails run that wasn't there, got knocked over. Should have won, will be fitter. But 12 to eight. I think number 12 is a pretty smart horse.
Speaker 2Apart from putting this Adelaide jockeys, if you haven't worked out just yet, if Mark doesn't like a ride from a jockey in previous starts, he'll blame me saying that I said it off air, but it's really Mark. So you can work that out for yourself. You said off air, you said four wide all the way. He's done well to keep the ride. Don't let me throw you under the bus. Because I will tell everyone the truth. You had a phone call by a certain individual and you were telling me that, how are they going to ride Cheyenne on the weekend from that gate?
Speaker 3Oh, well, you think you'd ride it quietly, wouldn't you? With the rail at 13 meters? We haven't got much choice, a lot of speed in the race. So back and be strong. Hopefully you can get to the right part of the track.
Speaker 2Timmy Clark's riding Garner's a can.
Speaker 3Yeah, it's in trouble from that barrier. It's going well and it's good enough to be competitive, but it needs a miracle.
Speaker 2Right. All right, then.
Speaker 3Johnny O'Shea gave us a good push for scintillation. I think what you see is what you get with scintillation. It gets there. It just lacks a length or two to win. It's got to run a strong 1200 meters, so it'll run well, but I would think place best again.
Speaker 2Race number five is the Fiend Stakes. Can't wait for this. Pride of Jenny, she's at $2. Mr. Brightside at $4.60. Sambardo at $6. Treasure of the Moment at $6. Another Will at $7. And Pounding, as Moods pointed out, why not start him and go around for $10,000? He's at $8. But two old warriors in Pride of Jenny and Mr. Brightside, they've been wonderful horses for so many seasons now. They've had so many wonderful battles over the journey, and they're going at it again here, Mark.
Speaker 3These are races I always have trouble with. I will tip 5, 3, 4. Pride of Jenny, look, I suppose she'll jump, she'll lead, she'll dictate, and she will most probably win. She was beaten first up last time in at Flemington by Evaporate and Tom there. I don't know, Gareth, she looks to be trialling well. You know her much better than me. She'll probably get away with the race. I think number three, Another Will, as long as the track's dry, I think Another Will's the danger. He should have won the All-Star Mile against similar horses there last year. And he was fantastic last time. Getting onto dry ground, he was fantastic. Did some early work. Better run than Brightside and Treasure of the Moment. If it gets wet, he's probably in trouble. And for Zambardo, who would want rain, comes out of a much weaker race. First up, was ridden to run well and did run well. I heard Mick Price say they'll ride it to run well again. So he won't be up contesting or doing any of that. He'll be finishing off late. I don't know that Zambardo's good enough to win, but I'll go 5, 3, and 4.
Speaker 2So 5, 3, and 4. It's an interesting type of setup for Pride of Jenny because she is first up. And her first up record is okay, but it's pretty good when it's above 1,400 metres. But this time around, she takes a few of these horses on who'll be third up. And a few of them like Brightside in a way. And even Treasure of the Moment. Treasure of the Moment, it's nearly like a D-Day run for them.
Speaker 3I think Treasure of the Moment's in trouble. I think the way she's going, I think she's in trouble. Her and Brightside are both good beginners. Pride of Jenny can be a little bit messy away. And Willow's drawn six. So if he began and roared across, that could make it a little tougher for Pride of Jenny. Mr. Brightside, I'm not sure where he's quite at. He had a good run first up. He was no match at all up the straight. He had first uppers and Autumn Boy having no luck and things behind him. Treasure of the Moment wasn't far behind him either. And I know the track was too hard the other day and he did a bit of work, but he was well beaten. So I think it's a bit of a D-Day run for Mr. Brightside here. Yeah.
Speaker 2And Jenny will be able to control the tempo like she always does. But they might be a little bit fitter to go with her here if they're deeper into their preparations.
Speaker 3Well, as long as she begins as well. Because Treasure of the Moment, another Will and Mr. Brightside aren't slow beginners early. So if she's messy away at all, there is some situation where Willow could just carve across and make life difficult for her.
Speaker 2Mr. Brightside, Zimbardo want the rain. Another Will doesn't want the rain, basically.
Speaker 3So again, we're in the lap of the gods and you would think Pounding, you think Pounding would struggle. He's out there, as Bird said, to bowl around. Treasure of the Moment was every conceivable first up. I thought Snagged across the line to run fourth and did a bit of work last time. But gee whiz, it's got a long way to come back.
Speaker 2Yeah. But it's great to see two nine-year-olds still competing. We don't usually get to see that these days, especially in the modern era. But these two horses have been. Um, dead set champions of this game.
Speaker 3They have. I haven't got the figures in front of me. Oh, here we go. Mr. Brightside, $19 million. Yeah. And Jenny, she just does. Let's be honest at 340. Something's burning at $6. Hedrick's at 12. Scarola at $12. Boyce Bounce was very good in midweek company there the other day at Sandown at $13. Obam Buell. Eight at $15. Um, and then big prices for the rest.
Speaker 3Yeah, it was a good watch. $14 diamond at Flemington drew one, came off the rails on the home turn, straight up backsides, really strong through the line. I think should have won the race. So here it is. There's good speed here. So he'll get headed. He's going to end up fifth or sixth inside on the fence. I would think he's just going to need luck at the right time. It's had one go on soft ground up in Sydney, which it ran down the track, but it ran quite well. So I don't think wet track would pose an issue. And inside may pose an issue by now. He'll just have to get off the fence. I think diameter is the one to beat the big value here. Number eight, Boyce Bounce. This is a good run beyond something's burning on debut. So that's your form line was out sprinted, made good ground. It's one of the better runs in the race. They then took it to Sandown, took bad luck at the equation straight to the front and was far too good. It draws widest of the speed runners. I don't think it can lead this race. So I think it will have to balance up. I think it's got a great hope at odds and five something's burning pretty much every chance. at Flemington, maybe wasn't quite the best part of the track out there but it's going to get a great run d lane jumps back on it's going to blend in follow the good speed blend in three or four wide and get every chance so i'll go one eight and five who leads in this race well the leader could come from scaroli's got speed lara antipova's fast out obambulate will try and go forward for nash got blinkers on whether it's fast enough signetti didn't lead and got abused last time so you think it would go forward boys bounce has gone forward so there are four or five who can set the tempo it should at least be okay early

Speaker 3we'll go weather dependent here five one two and four i think lucy and blake have done a fantastic job with changing colors it's a much much better horse since joining them it's strong at the mile it was a good win last time it handles the wet it's going to be sort of halfway to halfway back blending into the race down the center and it's the one to beat one sass appeal i suppose we're weather dependent here it failed two starts or was playing two starts ago that race got put down to a wet track at caulfield so if we get rain it's in trouble if we get dry it just did once uh limb saltoro went forward last time it tipped the race upside down and sass appeal just did too much work was best of the on paced horses so on a dry track you can certainly win on a wet track i'm not sure it would run its chances are lessened too too darn discreet terrific first up one of the few races where it really set up for the back markers ran on well and four see what i see had no luck in that race was going for a run had nowhere to go probably wouldn't have won but would have finished a lot closer would have finished in the top four for your multi yeah and we'll be fitter so five one two four we'll have to wait and see what the weather throws up

Speaker 8yep there's plenty of questions plenty of angles gee the way i've approached it is uh touching on bjorn and the camp they sort of suggested that war woven they want to ride with a slight sit so i've got that all going leaders back plagiarism's your natural leader that then sends a message to the rest of the horse to suggest that the outside the leader's positions available chris waller's got a handful of horses in this race they're all somewhat back markers so i dare say he's going to send one or two of his horses forward i just think the way central europe's been racing he's over racing somewhat in behind horses he's looks like a bit of a control freak tim clark's booked one of the best front-running jockeys i think they send central europe forward early from that very kind 1400 meter mark and he can land sort of outside lead i think that helps st gothard slot in as well and strings the field out in behind that i think guest house under focus get the grass runs regardless of what happens tenon board and war woven should allow them to land off rails and then in behind that you've got tron bolt costello king and bazilius so that's the way i've done the map g then you can do it a lot of different ways i think it's going to be average or slightly above average tempo no matter what i think that just falls into the lap of guest house i think he's the best horse in the race he's got the figures on the board already sort of two lengths superior of his rivals and i don't think we've seen the best of him yet at all i think he's going to take an x factor or an out-of-the-box performance to beat him i think the only horse in the race that can do that's tron bolt he's the one who's sort of untapped we've got no idea he'll be descending down the outside if his track plays really fair again i think he's a knockout but guest house on top from trombone from under

Gee, I'm worried about him. But Kieran Starr's come back a different horse this prep going off the trials. So just can't take $1.80 at all. I think Blue Door will start two plus, and I think Kieran Starr's best each way of the day.
Speaker 2Mickey Gannon, your thoughts on this odds-on favourite in the Herity Stakes?
Speaker 7Yeah, I think she regressed a little bit off that run. So she had every possible chance in a day where she was perfectly suited right. And she was really well backed. And, you know, they carry on about the SP and how strong that SP was. But the only reason was purely down to track pattern. So we knew that was coming, and she didn't get the job done. So I think she regresses off that run. And I think Omo Long's clearly the horse to beat in the race. So, you know, hasn't shown great natural speed so far, but they're going to have to show some sort of intent. I can't imagine James is going to want to be at the back last here. You've got Halfpipe and an Outspan drawn to your inside. He'll be able to cover those. He's got Blue Door, the nominated leader, and Our Emperor from Outback. So I'd imagine James shows some intent, tries to come across with those. And lo and behold, probably ends up in the 1-1. If he ends up there, he'll be like $1.50 in run type stuff. And we're getting $4 to find out if James is going to show intent. We don't really get these opportunities, Gareth, because usually every JMAC horse that opens on a Wednesday is 10% shorter by Friday. And this horse isn't. So I think we have to bet Omo Long.
Speaker 2I would be all over Omo Long, but I don't know if he'll be able to keep up.
Speaker 6I've had something on Omo Long. I just can't take a $1.80 Blue Door. I agree with the boys. She's very fast, but she's just so weak that final 100 metres. And it's going to be the same story here. I almost think she's better off running at 1,000.

If they get seven, it might get to a six, but I don't think it's enough to sort of bring back markers into the race. So it's really interesting sort of set up there. I would say four to midfield and look maybe towards the middle of the day, they get towards the middle of the track, but there's not much middle. The track is that no, no, um, is there 13 lanes from, from India out?

I think a lot at the pover to Benny's point, the mall is some question mark, potentially the wetter, um, the better as well for her, but a diameter on top, and I think probably the only query and Dana might, um, be able to go further into this is diameter on anything worse than a sort of soft five figures have been awful. Um, so we're not too wet. So probably just may play straight back until we get there. Uh, and that's right. He doesn't have that turn of foot. Yeah. And you can just watch that visually. So I'm taking him on. I think a live another day gets a perfect opportunity to bounce back. Bit of rain on Saturday, back around a bend, gets the perfect map. Extragalactic, I'd give a chance to. Giga kick just can't be $10, can he? Like, is that price off the fact that he was a little bit disappointing first up at 1,000, he's much better suited here at 12. He's over the odds at 10s. And there's probably other, a couple of others that are giving a good hope, but I'm a live another day and probably giga kick.
Speaker 7Mickey Gannon? Completely grayed out by the race, and I spent a lot of time on it, G. So I think a bit of rain, giga kick's a great bet. And I think a live another day, you can completely forgive that Flemington failure. So those two horses with a bit more rain are definitely in contention. Bayvox, the big query, not necessarily buying into the cadence and the frequency of stride, but it's more about, is he a control freak and does he need to be out in front solo? And will he get there? And you go through it. Does Gallant's son have enough speed to pull the pressure on him from outside? Maybe Luke can take his time and sort of, you know, get across after four, 500 meters potentially. A live another day, I'd be surprised. So where does it come from? He can't manufacture speed. I mean, Napoleonic, Dino might be the only horse and you think Zach might be more positive on him. Maybe he's the one that could be the fly on the ointment and set up for a live another day or a giga kick to sort of run over the top. The speed map's confusing. Those four horses I mentioned, Bayvox, a live another day, giga kick and Napoleonic are probably the four key chances in the race. Jimmy Starr needs speed on. We did see him hold a four position in Everest. Maybe, maybe, maybe he's the one. Maybe he's the one that they go forward on, Gareth. Have you heard anything from that camp? Do they get blinkers on first time?
Speaker 2Yeah, I think, I think they, I'm not quite sure, but yeah.
Speaker 7If you got that push, then all of a sudden, you know, you could sort of entertain him, but yeah, it's a really challenging race. For the sake of a tip, a live another day because sits off the back of Bayvox, but yeah, any of those for the quaddies, all of them.
Speaker 8Dino? Yeah, well, my theory boys, it's 13 runners capacity field for the 13 meter rail. So, the last thing you're going to want to do in the straight is to look to pick off runs in behind horses. I think there's not going to be any room doing that. So, what does that suggest? It's a very kind starting point, 200 meters. I think horses will make their move on the turn. So, I'm expecting the jets to get put on, on that turn. They're going to try to get clear air leading to the straight. I think the last thing you want to do is at the 200 meter mark, try to burst through the pack. I don't think you're going to be able to. Live another day, he's got a grouse SP back to its superior setup and you're getting $6 versus $1 ready last start. Yes, it's a hard race, but anyway, the way this map plays out, I just think a live another day gets the perfect run. I think Biowac might knock up at the 200 meter mark. And outside of that, I think Jimmy Star blinkers on. If they're going to roll forward and be positive in this race, he's the one who can knock them out as well. So, live another day on top and Jimmy Star saver.
Speaker 2And in all seriousness, Benny, like I remember that article, Will Elford, your great mate, he did on betsy.com.au and it's regarding the stride length of Biowac. And in this article, and you can still Google it, Will Elford, Biowac, Biowac stride length. And he says that elite sprint is almost always operate at 2.5 strides per second or higher. Slower stays are typically closer to 2.2. It goes on here to say that Biowac operates between 2.3 and 2.45. So, he doesn't operate with his stride length as a genuine group one sprinter. No, and to be fair,
Speaker 6I think that that article was also before the lightning states. Correct. And Will, he was saying this horse is just simply not fast enough to win a lighting. Yeah. 1,200 meters gives him his opportunity. A thousand, he's just not fast enough. I would take him on.
Speaker 2I reckon, I reckon there'll be more pace in this race than people expect. So, I think the key is
Speaker 7stride length or not, Gareth. If he's out in front by three lengths at the 600 meters and he's doing his own thing and he's going at a good tempo with Nasher board, I won't catch him. But I don't think he'll get that set up.

Someone will be right and someone will be wrong. And that's why it's such a great game. And there's a couple of D-Day horses like Giga Kick. They say he's flying. $10 is a great price to find out. And he'll go to an Everest after this if he does perform as well as a few people expect him to.

And I think right around that $4.40 mark, it's probably the right price to risk versus Buck Lua being around 260 Dino. So, uh, the nine on top.
Speaker 8Yeah. Any other track, but clue would have been a really, really nice bet, but $2.60 scares me. I think run Harry run can run a big race here up on speed. Uh, forget last start. I think back to his best, that horse can run well.

So many leaders in this race, which might, just help Harry's yacht and Buck Lua get into the race. Buck Lua, best horse going really well. I'm probably with him. I do think, Harry's yacht can settle maybe a pair or two further forward than Buccleuch. I just want to see how the track's playing, but I do think there's enough pressure in this race to get the backmarkers involved more so than the earlier races.

They're coming off arguably the worst runs of their career. So she gets the best setup ever.

I just think it's the big odds. Like, I think they went up around $20. I think it's into around $14 now. I think it's a good each-way play at about $7.50, mate.

I thought that was a really winnable race too, Gareth. So, they're stable, obviously keen to travel to South Australia. This isn't a strong race. This is a lightly raced horse, 2,500 metres. I think the spacious Murray Bridge track is going to just suit ideally. Just looks too strong for these. I've got a rate at $1.75 chance, Gareth.

And, and about half of that goes into regional Victoria as well. And it's, uh, as we said, it's more than just the race meet. It's the fuel stops along the way, stopping at the bakeries and the counter meals at the pubs and the local, the local accommodation and restaurants. It's, um, it's a wonderful time of year to get involved and support the local towns.

We've got the top weight, Annie Luck, who was the Warrnambool Cup winner earlier in the season. She contested 12 Country Cups on the Victorian circuit last year. She's a real stalwart of this time of year. Tyeke, my son, won the Sheep Hills Cup last start at Warwick Nabil. Speaker 15well we'll start in race one number four animalistic um look i do think the map is really going to suit lucky i am i just don't think her numbers are really what i've seen previously in the last couple of preps so she's just going she'll get every chance there on saturday the leader but number four animalistic comeback really good first up performance probably lost position there got right back towards the tail and still ran down a field um that's the best i've got her going first up in any preparation from barrier four don't think the apprentice jefferson sang to get too far back probably just uh settled midfield and really if she produces what i saw first up i think she deserves to be favorite and um we'll go to race eight look this is the race of god's gate if they don't lead on this horse on saturday they're never going to lead on a on a horse ever um i think he's going much better in the markets giving him credit for so i have to have something on him near a double figures so race eight number six and i'll have something on the 13 vienna calling as well i like the jockey switch of lucy fiora first time and this horse really good figures from a different form line and i don't think it should be double figures so two there in the last at odds race eight number six race eight number 13 do you agree with him terry this weekend i've placed
Speaker 14in my life i'm uh i've already put it in the spreadsheet as a winner actually it's been a quiet couple of weeks but tell you what we're heading to melbourne things aren't nothing's going to go wrong for me on saturday garrett so i've nearly had a bet in every single race so i'm pretty confident i'm going to back the card i'm going to find the north this winter but animalistic as pete said it should have everything he said is bang on but it probably should be closer to a 60 radar uh i apologize for the shaking it turns out my i might have some early onset parkinson's um but it's uh yeah it's absolutely flying lance one one or two one and i genuinely thought it was an even money pop not a three dollar fifty pop so animalistic will be a full stake investment for me uh in race number four the staying race um i'm pretty keen on kalima i'm disappointed with the 650 currently like i reckon we'll get back out to ten dollars each way um and it's one i don't think many will be even having in their top four so to be third currently i predict we'll see a bigger price but um she was ready to win a staying race she had a massive setback um she then failed at her return run she was in great through the line second up this is ready for a peak performance with the perfect maps third up lucy on arguably our best rider of stayers um i i think she's the one that'll win the race it's just about when to bet for me i'm really confident kalima i think this is a good bet um hoping we again see eight nine dollars each way late um and then in the last i can't be with god so i'm going to bet on the gates i've done enough cash on god's gate it was scratched last week pete are we worried about the fact it was scratched last week with a uh was it a foot or a virus or something last week which worries me as well but um dearie me if it wins then well maybe it wasn't my day after all it might be a good day for the lions um but i i like streaker god i'm gonna follow pikey there he had the choice between streaker god and streamlines low draw uh good speed on with cable rock and god's gates um i think he parks in low and typical pikey low draw attacks him late but it's massive value in the last is center bond um i've marked it a clear third favorite i think it should be way shorter than snow god who's five bucks it's over 20 to one um its last two runs have been huge i think it maps a bit closer um and darren nosky going on a horse it can be a bit wayward i actually really like he's a very strong horseman so center bond is probably the biggest over is on the whole card at 20 plus for me beautiful

Speaker 2Yeah, it doesn't get any better. I love it, especially when your footy side's in the big dance. It's NRL preliminary final weekend as well. Golden Rose Day, Group 1 action at Caulfield on Sunday, so it's a big weekend. Hey, where do we start with your specials?
Speaker 16Oh, look, it's a tricky weekend. It is. Because, um. Oh. I don't know. There's a stack of shorties up here at Rose Hill. You know, everything from Skyhook, Decorum. Lazura's getting pretty short now with a couple of scratchings out of the Golden Pendant. So. And I don't think all of them are necessarily. I don't think any of them are particularly good things. I think they've all got little issues. Decorum's got map issues. I reckon even Skyhook does. I think he lands third defence, and I'm just a little bit worried about him getting out at the right time. We're hearing the track will be a little bit away from the inside on the home straight, so. You know, that's probably not the A1 spot, necessarily. So, I found it hard to have a standout. Look, in the Rose itself, I don't want to be against Guesthouse, but I just can't back him at the short quote. On trial, 1,400 metres, 28 days between runs. It's not normally a set-up that the market will go, yeah, bang, we're going to back him. And that's despite the fact he's got the best peak ratings in the race. So, I'd love to see him win, because the Golden Slip, the Golden Rose Double would be a great one. It would be a great one to tick off. But I do think he's probably a little vulnerable. The likes of Warwoven, St Gotthard, if he can get into the right spot, he's got a little mapping shoe himself. And maybe even under focus, he does map a bit closer than he did in the Run to the Roads. He might be thereabouts as well. So, I'm sort of half staying out of that race, but that's the thoughts on that. In terms of the best up there, probably the best I've got for you is Cross Tasman. He takes on Decorum. Now, I've got a huge opinion of Decorum, but he just maps. He'll be along the inside and back in the second half of the field. We're going, I think, probably race five now. And Cross Tasman, he's a good, honest galloper. He's second up. He is a few weeks between runs. He was good in the Golden Cup. He was a strip fitter. And I think on a one-by-four basis, you're getting about $1.80 to place. I know I'm not going to win an award for bravery for tipping this one, but I think one-by-four is a good sort of bet for Cross Tasman. So, he'll do me. And then, look down on Sunday, just, you know, I don't want to be a kicker dog while it's down, but just with the track being a bit uncertain there at Caulfield, I think there's one horse where whatever gets dished up on the day, plugs, no plugs, whatever's going on, it doesn't matter. And that's Pride of Jenny. She's going to go out and run the same race, no matter whether it's on-rail, off-rail, whatever it might be. And I think she's a great bet. And that's being stakes.

Who's never been offended by anyone in his whole life. In fact, he is the offender. And I said, what did you think of that stand-up? And he looked at me. He was dead serious for the first time ever. And he said, son, she was bloody disgraced. And I went, wow, if she's offended, Mel, could you imagine the other thousand people in the room? Coley Rogers stormed out. So that is a first. Race four, number five, Little Bourke Street. Probably should have won, arguably, won its last two. It hasn't had all favours. There's Shiresy on today from the inside gate in a five-horse field. I think it will be winning. And then in the last, Shiresy's other runner, and that is number two, Rossinato. She's had a great preparation. This mare just continues to go from strength to strength. Got to tick off the 1,600-metre box today. She's had five starts for two seconds, but I think she can do it today. Paul rides and trains race seven, number two.

We'll start off on Saturday at Rose Hill for the running of the Golden Rose, and it's an interesting market here with Bet360, because Guesthouse is at $2.50. He's remained favourite for the week, and he's been around that price as well. So just having a look once again, if there's been anything that he's into $2.40 now, St. Gothard's $3.60, Woolwoven $6, Underfocus at $12, Trombolt at $15, Central Europe at $21. Who wins this year's Golden Rose, Dean? Well, look, Sally and
Speaker 20Macon race was a great race. The last 15 winners were, TAB, or horse numbers one to five, or the top five in the official handicap rating. So it's a class horse that wins it. From that perspective, all 15 winners were sort of in the top 10 positions and run, and none of them had settled worse than sixth at their last start. Even just on those parameters, it narrows it down to the favourites, Woolwoven, Guesthouse and St. Gothard, for looking at ways to try and separate them. St. Gothard has only had three career starts. Only one horse has won a Golden Rose at 71% loss on turnover, up only three starts. There's another key rating sort of parameter, that St. Gothard fails also with an 87% loss on turnover. There's a Waller-McDonald horse. Waller's won four Golden Roses. McDonald's won three. Interestingly, they've still never won one as a trainer-jockey combo. You've then got Guesthouse. There's only been four Golden Flipper runners run in the Golden Rose, since it's run in the spring, and they've run 5th, 9th, 11th and 14th, and a 71% loss on turnover for runners with a 600k or more prize earnings. He also doesn't come out of that standard run to the Rose lead up. So there's a few negatives, but a guest house as well. got wall woven i just think maps absolutely beautifully in the trail behind the leader on the rails most winners of this race find the fence more often than not five of the last six years the winner found the fence 29 degrees today 33 degrees tomorrow so it could be as hard fence and run type day at rose hill casilla king's just been scratched which takes some speed out of the race and i think that suits wall woven a lot more than guest house and saint goddard well other than on his first couple of starts he was hot favorite for the magic millions and had a setback won the group three pago pago was a two-year-old he's three wide throughout the more wide gate and slip were only beaten three lengths and came out and won the run to the rose the key lead up last start and i just think of the three of them wall woven is the one that maps and profiles really nice and i think it's a really nice strong each way bet to knock off those sort of two uh two hype colts who leads this race uh i've got uh plagiarism the uh gay waterhouse leading from from wall woven or sit behind and then then you got guest house maybe sitting out outside war woven tenon balm sort of behind them and and then the question what he does with saint goddard because i've got him sort of naturally mapping three wide no cover now you know j mac won't end up there but does he end up sort of seventh one off the fence a fair way back off a soft tempo or is he even going to take the risk of actually pushing forward and trying to sit
Speaker 2outside the leader yeah well they push the trigger there with central europe with timmy clark aboard so there's a few decisions out why those jocks will be making which would be interesting

Speaker 20here and it's going to be interesting obviously with the rail up 13 meters and a bit of rain coming around on saturday as well just in terms of how the track will play but jimmy star is a horse that is absolutely flying he had a couple of trials in sydney was the quickest last 200 out of 130 trailers and then the quickest last 400 out of 120 trailers it was going really well into the uh into the memsie and it was just a bit of a car crash for him that day he was sort of just you could see he was not comfortable the whole run he was sort of stuck out wide he had angel capital laying in on him the whole way uh and it just didn't work out for him i'm i'm prepared to forgive him for that blinkers go on here like you said you want to cram them jump out with them on and look really really strong i think you can get back and uh with a bit of cut out of the ground just sweep home over the top and i think the horse is flying and i think jimmy star really hard to beat but just concerned with his his you know uh map position and the way the track might play so the other one i want to be on is a live another day who again you know flew in a flemington jump out look really good one first up uh here at caulfield by length and a half i'm forgiving his first run down the straight i think he bounced back coming back to caulfield and gets a really nice trail just behind bay what and i think he can out sprint him over over the 1200 and uh he was a dollar sixty last start i live another day and run as a that must be of uh under two dollars at one five from eight and then i can't i would a hundred percent profit on turnover so the two i want to be with are definitely jimmy star and i live another day i just think bay what is a really supreme 1400 meter horse but i'm not sure he can do the same over 1200 so bay

Speaker 20there's a horse guy waterhouse here as by piero who she trained out of lescuit spirit who won the uh on the vrp oaks um won a round of 28th trial by two and a half lengths easily bit a horse called pulsator who then won on debut by 2.3 lengths and then won at round with over 1200 meters on 11 september by nearly two lengths ran plus 3.7 the last 600 and beat home uh a group performed for gay's new endeavor uh is a pretty handy horse so um you know i think going into a kembla grange maiden i think italian spirit looks like a really nice horse for the future and uh i think you should be beating

Speaker 21i said to um ryan on the day it's it's it's a family affair here yeah like between all of us we um all work full-time jobs and um get home and work you know team of seven um which is never easy there's a lot of late nights involved and it's you know me riley and blake that um we do to work but it also just as a family my wife and my daughter they've got to sacrifice some time for us as well like um you know going out and doing stuff you know their their days get sacrificed at the same time you know what i mean so to win a race like this it's just um yeah it gives us that that ability to say we're doing something right and we're enjoying you know we enjoy every moment of it yeah so yeah yeah when the hard work we put into just start to get confident with him last week um to be totally honest i don't think you should have been 100 to 1 that's mine but but that's me looking um from my perspective yeah obviously punches looking from the outside in would have seen it totally different um the horse has had a couple of little excuses along the way um but his last couple of runs he's shown that he's starting to come up again um but look i actually said to blake you know our chances of having any hence i put a set of block winkers on him just to switch him on and make sure he got to the fence first yeah but um yeah look traveling down the back i was hopeful of maybe running a place uh half around the turn when he was you know keeping up with the two leaders i thought well yeah we'll probably hang on to third here but when he got the run and he started to run past me and he joined the leader i thought he'll be right in it now yeah and that's when um reality kind of hit a bit yeah yeah did you back him more importantly i don't back any of mine i don't back any of it so no no we didn't ever send on him
Speaker 2no and what about blake it was a gem of a drive as you point out he he had to be aggressive at the start he got to the fence and then handed up to the right horse but um how did he what was his emotions like after the race as well and what's he what's he been saying to you this week uh look he's um unbelievable
Speaker 21like you know for a kid so so young yeah he's done a fantastic job with him you had to handle that kind of pressure but um like i said to him leading up to it because um he normally drives him with the claim and i normally drive him without the claim but i said look i'll give you we'll give you a go and you know and credit to his owners they um let a young kid have a crack at a group one race which was fantastic of him um but yeah no look he's um he did a good job with him um my problem is now getting a seat back i don't think i don't think

Well, yeah, he's been going good. His last run was really good. He, you know, made a lot of ground from back in the field just to get done. He's still a horse learning what it's all about. He's a little bit behind where he should be maturity-wise.

Speaker 2Well, we appreciate you spending a little bit of time with us, because we've got to find a winner at Hastings or Rickerton tomorrow. So what meeting do you want to play at first?
Speaker 22Well, Hastings is where I've concentrated on this weekend. It is the big Group 1 meeting there at Hawke's Bay with the Howden Mile. So my tips are all out of the Premier meeting, as opposed to down at Rickerton on Saturday.
Speaker 2Yep, beautiful. So the Insurance Mile, the Group 1, it's an intriguing betting race. Tuxedo is the favourite for 20, Media World at $8.50, First 5, $4.40, YTAC at $6.00, and she's a dealer with $6.50. Around that quote with Bet365, which way are you going there tomorrow in the feature?
Speaker 22I think Tuxedo deserves to be the favourite. If you go back and look at his run in the 1,400 metres, I thought he was the one that had the flashing light on him. He's going to love the step up to 1,600 metres, and he always improves off the back of a run. The fact that Opie Bossom has come back from a break away from the saddle to ride him this preparation, I think, speaks volumes and he's a horse I've always had a lot of time for. He deserves to be favourite. The draw is a little bit tricky for him, whereas Media World from Barrier 1, he's going to jump and he's going to put himself right there. They're the two I'd probably be looking at in terms of real betting propositions in the race, but when you've got horses like YTAC that can just pop up at any time, you've got to consider him, and I think First 5 will improve as well.
Speaker 2All right, then. So Tuxedo, geez, Opie, you can make a comeback, can't he?
Speaker 22Oh, he can make a comeback. Yes, he can. And he is. He's definitely the guy you want in the saddle in these types of races. He is just a big race rider. Yeah, he knows how to play it. I mean, I say Barrier 12 is a little bit sticky, but Opie Bossom will probably have him sitting one off midfield somewhere. You know, he just. He's a genius in these types of races.
Speaker 2And we're glad to have him back as well. We want him in the saddle. What else do you like?
Speaker 22There's a couple of horses I like throughout the program. Race 2 is where I'm having my first bet. It's an open-handed. cap over the 1300 meters war princess she was a really nice winner fresh up and she's unbeaten second up i like the fact that the blinkers are coming off stepping out to the 1300 meters and craig grills goes in the saddle so senior rider aboard there's a bit of speed on paper it's only a small field there's a bit of speed she is one that can push forward but i actually think uh the tempo of the race is going to suit her she can win from coming off them as well so i'd say she'll potentially if the speed's on just sit in behind it and have the last crack at them i really like her you've got to be a little bit wary of the scunner he's trolled up really nicely leading into this and he flies fresh so a little bit of respect around scunner but my numbers are seven two six and three so
Speaker 2war princess one of your specials and the other special there at hastings
Speaker 22well there's a couple of others that i'm going to have a bet on one is old-fashioned in the hawks bay guinea so that's our group two over the 1400 meters i love this horse uh he's trolled up really nice as he did before his debut back in june where he won they've put him aside specifically for spring stakes targets so that's where i'm going i think he represents a little bit of value in the hawks bay guinea so 3 11 1 and 8 and then race 9 uh the 65 over the 1400 meters young jackson is second up finished third fresh up at terapa has made and win came second up over the 1400 meters so i think stepping up in seven furlongs is really going to help him so are the improving track conditions he gets into the race with a competitive weight with the killer apprentice claim and he is by far good enough to be winning a race at rating 65 level so 4 3 13 and 1 and race 9 beautiful and i'll tell you
