Giddy Up - Full Show (23/10)

This episode of Giddy Up with Gareth Hall was broadcast live from the Ascot Vale Hotel on the Friday before the Cox Plate, with Mark Hunter joining for his Hunter's Edge segment. Much of the discussion focused on the weather and track conditions at Flemington, where forecasts varied between light showers and minimal rainfall, with track manager Liam O'Keefe confident the surface would be in excellent shape. Hunter worked through the Flemington card, offering selections in several races and naming Angels Fury, Aliana, and Chispa among his best bets. He tipped Aliana to win the Cox Plate, pointing to her strong preparation and the excellent record of mares in the race, while also rating Light Infantry Man as a top-four contender. Dean Evans from Winning Edge Investments shared statistical insights favoring four-year-olds and mares, agreeing with Aliana as his top pick and identifying Light Infantry Man as the value runner. The weekend preview team, featuring Mick Gannon, Dean Watling, and Ben Kaluzi, assembled a top four multi of Light Infantry Man, Lazura, Extra Galactic, and Stormy Marco. Lazura was also named the Mega Boost horse for race eight at Randwick, with the boost available until around ten past ten.

Speaker 3good idea it's a good idea to wear it just once what about you want your giddy up hat yeah well you spoke for that long i lost track of what you're talking about i had mick gannon on the phone yesterday mick gannon yeah we did a little podcasting what do you mean so you you're working for him now no well i'm not working for him now i'm working for him now i'm working for him now this is your this is your main show you should save all your best work for later on and he said can you speak to gareth about his attire during the week it's been disgraceful oh that really yeah from micky gannon that orange shirt we didn't know that's not a color you wear i think uh someone's demi's done some shopping for me traded your wardrobe
Speaker 2no demi what about this shirt i bought this the other day you like it yeah good with a feature yes you gotta go extra large these days mark now you demanded to have this guest on the kickoff proceedings because you know it's been a long time since the last time i've been on the kickoff i don't know if liam i i don't know where he gets his weather report so i said i'll get the best in the business from channel 10 josh halt to join us to give us an update when it will it actually rain at flemington tomorrow afternoon hello to you josh thanks for joining us here on giddy up again good morning giddy up team great to be with you
Speaker 4um when will it rain at flemington tomorrow okay guys so a bit of good news and bad news i'll start with the bad news first there is a little bit of weather around flemington as we move through the state of victoria looking at the the latest modeling i can see it does look like we will see some light share activity push across flemington and surrounds as we get through cox plate day the good news is i'm not expecting too much into the gauges it does look like those showers may arrive anytime from around about 11 a.m and then push across flemington from around about then on but i'm only expecting around about five millimeters into the rain gauge now we know flemington's a great drying track and i think it's going to be a good day for the rain gauge it's a good four at the moment so i don't think we're going to be on that heavy or anything like that but it may tick over into that soft range as we go into cox plate afternoon so will it be
Speaker 2annoying rain josh throughout the day
Speaker 4look no i don't think it'll be constant throughout the afternoon i think there'll be a burst of sort of light shower activity around about that lunchtime period as i just mentioned before um you know it may last an hour or so and then it should start to ease back after that
Speaker 2okay um beautiful mate have you got a darby report just yet we have to wait a few more days yeah probably
Speaker 4have to wait a few more days uh the good news is i'll be in the studio next friday with you gareth so we'll have uh we'll have a full look at the flemington week because we've just got uh a smorgasbord of racing on the way and it's uh it's looking amazing over
Speaker 2the next week who are you tipping in the cox plate before we let you
Speaker 4go time to shine she's been a she's been a late developer a little bit like this weatherman um so you know it's it's her time to shine i think she can get the job done and i also like a bit of a smoky in the mile race tomorrow um at 17 zakuma um it grows another leg at flemington so um i'm gonna have a little play at that as well good on you josh we appreciate your help as always and we'll catch up with you
Speaker 2next week sounds good guys liam o'keefe the track manager at flemington joins us now good day liam were you expecting that report i only just called
Speaker 5the end of it gareth so if you could fill
Speaker 2me in that'd be great well light showers from 11 a.m about five meals but it'll probably there'll be a shower around lunchtime and then it'll be on and off but he reckons only five
Speaker 5meals is that too much i got i got a slightly different forecast this morning from uh our man at the bureau yes more likely only one or two meals okay low risk chance of a storm so um it's probably just going to be one of those days just just take it hour by hour but yeah it's not enough of a solid forecast for me not to water or anything like that so um yeah we'll check back in again this afternoon and and we'll have to water again tonight after
Speaker 2a very very warm day today it's the worst possible type of preparation in a way isn't it because you prefer the rain to come the good rain to come at the start of the week and then you don't have to water but now you've just got this dilemma how much rain is going to come tomorrow um how much do i need to put on tonight
Speaker 5yeah yeah you're right like ideally get 20 mil of rain on thursday and then you don't touch it again but um yeah this is what we're here for to deal with these situations and the way i see it is it's going to dry out a lot today it'll need a drink tonight anyway uh if it rains it rains tomorrow we can't control that but um yeah we'll uh we'll be making sure that we're a good for at the start of the day and see what happens from there
Speaker 2um how do you think the track will play because it's a little bit different this year this is a this is the first of what five meetings at flemington and they're all big red final days basically yeah track's
Speaker 5an outstanding nick leading into it couldn't be happier team has done a great job it's been racing well through the spring so far we'll kick off with the railing true tomorrow our aim is to keep it in true again for derby day and then we'll move it in small gradual moves from there but into the five day carnival it's in great nick have you
Speaker 2walked the track yet no i haven't gareth okay when are you going to do that after the show all right then after he waters it or before he waters it well
Speaker 3he's giving me prior warning so better put the boots on i think he'll be okay this morning so i better be careful no you won't need
Speaker 2them this morning mark it's dry will we get an upgrade or you think if that rain comes it should be pretty good
Speaker 5uh i i think we will get an upgrade um i i don't think we're actually going to get that much rain i'm going to pack my man in tomorrow so um we'll be preparing it as a four to a three and if we only get less than a mil then um yeah hopefully we'll get to a good track at some stage that's
Speaker 2how we're preparing it so derby day true cox plate day true the melbourne cup it has to be what three meters that's right we're not allowed to
Speaker 5go past three for melbourne cup due to the field size so um yeah we'll we'll most likely go three minutes a cup day and then uh let the rest play out from
Speaker 2there it's bloody exciting mates um can't wait flemington taking center stage for cox plate day i reckon it's going to be a beauty hopefully we get 35 40 000 people there and um yep um flemington will always deliver who are you tipping
Speaker 5i'm tipping light infantry man strong each way so gamble responsibly but i'm quite confident the hot speed loves the hot speed
Speaker 2marxist uh it's got its photo in the herald sun yeah front page that's that's the end of it i think there's been a few of late that have got up and bucked that trend i'm going to make him my play in the top four multi the herald sun gareth hall and liam o'keefe what hope is that horse good he should be he should be a hundred to one um mate it's always great to catch up with you you're a bloody star appreciate your time thank you there's liam o'keefe um he does a great job we're in good hands and it's amazing really because you've got one of the best um at his job and josh holt there who works for channel 10 and has studied the weather for the majority of his life and he's got a different
Speaker 3report than liam yeah well the track before turnbull stakes day was in absolutely magnificent condition yeah then the rain came obviously so that inside nine meters hasn't been touched it'll be it will be just pristine in there yeah it's going to be interesting true um cox plate day true derby day yep if they get some rain at all tomorrow and some traffic on it you think the inside would be a bit bit off for Derby Day.
Speaker 2the last time we've had consecutive Saturday meetings in Melbourne
Speaker 3where the rail's been true at the same track. No, he's forced to go. Because of the size of the fields on Cup Day, he can only go out three metres. Yeah. So they have to have it true on Derby Day.
Speaker 2All right, Ben, this is Giddy Up live from the Ascot Vale Hotel. We're going to take our first break and then we'll get stuck into the card. The nine-race program there at Flemington as we get set for our greatest weight for age championship race over the 2,000 metres for WS Cox Plate. Join the conversation.
Speaker 1Text us on 0499 736 736. Live across Australia, this is Giddy Up with Gareth Hall.
Speaker 2Welcome back to Giddy Up. Gareth Hall with you on this Friday morning. We're live from the Ascot Vale Hotel, one of the great pubs in Melbourne. Mark, close to your heart, of course. Mark Hunter with us for the Harder's Edge.
Speaker 3Yep. If you're over in the west, it's a spot.
Speaker 2They're good. Mate, it's the only place to go. Now, tell me this, Mark Hunter. I think we might have had a few audio problems looking at my phone to kick off the show. So Josh Holt said there could be five meals in the afternoon on and off there. And then we had Liam O'Keefe and his weatherman said something a little bit different, only one to two meals. So what track are you working on now?
Speaker 3I'm working on a good track. It's going to be very firm today. Liam will put some water on tonight. It'll be in magnificent condition. And. Look, I guess, who knows? Yeah. Who knows? It could get a storm. It could dump 10 mils. I'm working on a good track at this stage and make different arrangements if it works out differently.
Speaker 2What do you make of this card?
Speaker 3Nine races. Moonee Valley Cox Plate Day is always a fairly tough punting card. I think the early start, early in the day is pretty tough going for me. Fantastic racing later in the day. And we'll start betting from about race four.
Speaker 2All right, then. Let's have a look at this meeting at Flemington. The first race here is over the 1,000 metres. And it's an interesting race because you've got Ice Cool, the Sydney Cider, at $2.20. We've bet $3.65. Spywire at $5. Brenham All for the Jollies at $5.50. Point and Shoot, 1,000 metres here for this gallop. He can't afford to miss the kickies at $7. Weight of the Stars at $13. McGaw at $26. Stoke at $34. Always enough at $34. This is a tough way. The kick-off proceedings with form lines coming from all over the country, Mark.
Speaker 3Yeah, and horses that, look, I wouldn't say any of them are in sparkling form, Gareth. I'm going to go 3, 4, 9, not a race I'll be betting in. Number three, Point and Shoot. It's going to need every step. It's never raced at 1,000. We'll need every single step of 1,000. It won first up last time in 1,100, but that was soft ground. It just got there. It's had two recent trials. One of them was over 1,000. There's good speed in the race, which will suit it. It'll be running on. I just hope the 1,000. Not too short. To beat number four, Ice Cool, rock-bottom odds. Look, it's mixing its form. It's going okay. I can't justify the short price, and I thought if there's a roughy, maybe number nine perilous fighter who gets the blinkers back on, gets the hoof filler off, it's shown form down the straight. It'll be fitter for that first up run. Trial since, not the worst. So not a race I'll play in 3, 4, and 9. Clayton Douglas gave his
Speaker 2horse a bit of a push yesterday when I was watching Racing.com after his impressive debuton. I've got the chocolates. It's there at Mornington yesterday.
Speaker 3Yeah, well, you go through the immortal star form when it's going well. The first up run was basic. It blew out, but it's trialed since and trialed quite well. Combination of the blinkers on, hoof filler off, can't be a bad thing. In a race where you can't really put your faith in any of them, it's not the worst.
Speaker 2One of your greatest strengths is identifying horses, whether they can handle the straight or not. Ice Cool's an interesting one from Sydney. Remember, they tried to get him here during the winter months, and it rained. It was a heavy track at Flemington, so they decided to stay home.
Speaker 3Yeah, I don't see an issue with, unless they've got bad racing habits. So Ice Cool doesn't seem to have those. So you would think the straight wouldn't be an issue, but it's got to still prove it.
Speaker 2Yeah. Let's have a look at race two, the Red Anchor Stakes. Vela Rosso is an impressive horse. Another progressive type for Cindy Alderson at 350 with bet 365 as the market leader. Jeez, I'm getting good pushes about Payton into 380 now with bet 365. Bugsy at 480. Halfpipe on the quickback up at 550. The Speed Machine at $11. Then Turbo Saint at $15 for Clint McDonald and D-Lane in a gold at $17. Regal Harry will be coming out after he won nicely. He's a horse that we need to be following there after his victory at Mornington yesterday. So he won't be competing. So that's the second race, the Red Anchor. It's a beauty.
Speaker 3It's an even race. Yeah. Again, I'll be happy to watch. I'll go 685. Number six, Halfpipe. Look, it had no luck again last week. It's just not having any luck in races. It actually began okay last time. Got sped out the back. Didn't have much galloping room up the straight. Was in the best part of the track, but should have gone close to winning. It draws inside here. It's got Vela Rosso to follow through. It's got Chad Schofield taking the ride. As long as it handles the seven-day backup, I think Halfpipe is well placed. Eight, Payton. Comes through the best race. It got back. It always misses the kick. So it'll miss the kick here, but it's got speed to follow. It ran okay. The last 50 metres, I thought, was paddling. So whilst the form line reads fantastic, you wouldn't say it was an eye-catching run. Five, Vela Rosso. It trialled well before that first up run. Just beaten there. Went to Seymour. Ran terrific time. Won well. And looks a real Cindy Alderson improver. So 685, another race I'll watch. How do you think the straight racers will play early doors? What barriers do you want? I would think they come down the inside, Gareth. That part's untouched. They raced, you know, at the nine-metre mark. Last time, and out wider down the straight. So there should be some wear and tear out there. I would think the inside nine metres would be the best spot. What about Turbo Saint for Clinton MacDonald? Won well on debut. Had every chance. The third horse was the best run in the race. Went to Geelong last time. Probably should have won. Missed the kick. It was a day to be up on speed. That was a really weak race. I think this is a harder race.
Speaker 2Race number three is for the three-year-olds. Always enjoy this race. It can be a guide towards the Oaks or the Derby. And you see some of them. Some of these three-year-old Colts and Gowdings back up a week later into the Derby. And True Rebel might be one of those. He's at $2.40 with bet $3.65. Jolie the filly at $5.00. Salah at $6.50. Ritten Empire is a $7.00 hope. Hierarchy at $8.50. La Polo at $13.00. Skua. Kiramar was undecided whether he races or not Skua. He's at $19.00. And then big prices for the rest here.
Speaker 3I'm going to tip Hierarchy. I think it's a horse that's. Screaming out for the 2,000 metres whereas a few others here are suspect. Now, it draws wide. It's not a good beginner. So, I think they'll have to take their medicine and settle last. Which may be not ideal if the track is firm. But, I think if it goes last, settles, gets a drag into the race, I'm sure it'll hit the line well. Last time it got out sprinted, you watch it through the line. It was roaring through the line. So, I think Hierarchy is one that will really appreciate the 2,000 metres. Eleven, Jolie. Jolie's runs are really good. On wet and dry. That run on the dry two starts ago, it had no hope the way the race was run. Still got through the line well. It's got a good barrier. Comes through good form races. Got a great chance. Two true rebel. Look, it's going to get a beautiful run. It's got to prove itself at 2,000 metres. That's the query I've got with the horse. But, it will get a cheap run to do it. Intense Salon. It comes through a good race. Ran well. It's just got to handle that seven-day backup. Get out to 2,000 metres. So, little query whether it does that. I think it's a tricky race. You need the race run right for Hierarchy. If it can get a drag into the race, I'm sure it will hit the line well. I could have something on Hierarchy each way. 3, 11, 2, and 10. Should we get on now for the Derby then?
Speaker 2Because there's been a few times we've got on some Derby horses. Or, even in the Oaks, like a Miss Waititi and it can quickly change.
Speaker 3Changes in a heartbeat. So, you would need it to go back. You need it to settle. You need to see hitting the line. I wouldn't talk you out of having some. But, it's probably well found in the Derby market now, I assume. What was $26 last time I looked Hierarchy? Well, I'd be happy to have something at $26. Yeah. Skewer, do you reckon they'll start Skewer? If they do, I think they'll let it run. I think the theory is it went too slow last start and ran a very plain race. It was good before that here at Flemington on the heavy. So, if they start it, there's three leaders. They all come from those similar gates. If Skewer starts, I think it'll take the front and make a truly run race, which will give Skewer a chance at odds. Have you won? Have you worked out La Polo? Frustrating. La Polo looked a good horse at Sandown that day. Terrible next time and plain last time. So, I think La Polo all of a sudden is at the crossroads.
Speaker 2All right. That's a look at the VARs there on Cox Plate Day. This is Giddyup, all thanks to Bet365. And Bet365 are paying an extra 10% of your winnings on all tote bets on all Australian thoroughbred meetings. That's win, place, quenelle. That's a good thing. Let's hope we can get the quaddie. Pays 500, extra 50 jumps in. That'd be nice. Time for a break. On the other side of it, we'll come back with plenty more. This is the Hunter's Edge on this Friday morning. Giddyup. Live from the Ascot Vale. hotel join the conversation
Speaker 1text us on 0 4 double 9 7 3 6 7 3 6 live across australia this is giddy up with gareth hall welcome back to
Speaker 2giddy up gareth hall with your thanks to bet 365 we're live from the ascot vale hotel i think there's still tickets i think there's i don't know schultz he said to me there might be about five or so tickets left so you can if you walk in here first in best dress when the show starts at um 12 o'clock today mark you got a cast of special guests yeah looking forward to it great day you've got a thousand to spend on the punters club yeah i think we're going to back clint mcdonald's horse in the first the ballarat yeah that's what you told me to do i did not he did so clinton uh what what should we be
Speaker 3backing then um i'd go with i reckon cushioned or run well late in the day you get a bigger cheer late in the day
Speaker 2too simon morris is there obviously he's on the board of the ballarat turf club it's ladies day so i was looking after 250 women he's not is he he is i said well good luck to those girls you'll be dancing and having fun and um he'll be looking after them and um they'll have a great day at ballarat it is always a good day on cox plate eve there at ballarat now let's continue our preview of course of the cox plate meeting at flemington tomorrow all thanks to kia the kia seltzers hybrid available now find out more at kia.com.au um i like this crockett stakes today some intriguing run and cheyenne hasn't had much luck this preparation she comes down the straight depending on who you are some say she trolled well some say not so good she's at 380 here in the cool more colors for james mcdonald and team archibald angels fury's been scratched from cranburn so she will go around at flemington tomorrow she's at 380 aroused at 380 with some to boot ballarat cannington at six dollars lady catalina at 16 ladhar at 19 and then almost an angel was an eye catcher there the other day getting 26 for her mark hunter i think angel
Speaker 3will win gareth she's a pretty good philly she's got three things against her here one she's had one go on the dry and she ran last two she's never been down the straight and three she's never run at 1200 so she's got three things against her now to counter that on debut on the dry she had obvious excuses she went for a spell yeah uh she was strong when she beat port nari over 1100 so i don't think 1200 is a query and you've got to give her the benefit of the doubt down the straight i think she's got the best form she's fantastic beating port nari which is good sprint form i think she'll win i just think she's too good for them 11 aroused one well on debut this is a much harder race but did win well it's in the right stable to keep improving and nine caddington was very good on debut at sandown stars of dom semantics come out of that race resumed on its home track but did bolt in looks a real improver but i think three will win 3 11 9 no one cheyenne you're taking her on chance at two runs back from a spell she's raced disgracefully she's missed the kick she's got her head up and raced erratically she's been back to the trials she won that trial but i wouldn't say she was convincing i'll take you through a few horses who ran in the in the blue diamond went up for the golden sleeper let's see how they're going strizand no good closer to free finished guest house well he was
Speaker 2pretty good first
Speaker 3up tracker at god time he's in the paddock zambalis and cheyenne there's five yeah so it's a long campaign to take them from the blue diamond to the golden slipper i see why you make guest house worth 40 million or whatever and strizand worth plenty so i can see why they do it and cheyenne was purchased by cool yeah and yeah i don't like the way i think she's got a bad attitude about life at the moment cheyenne they've they've tried the crossover noseband on tomorrow she's she's got a bit of the alpha sophies about her down the straight for my life i don't i don't think she'll handle the straight
Speaker 2well so like so how do you so is it a head carriage that worries you going down the straight what have you seen in her she's come back
Speaker 3a different she's got a different attitude this time and she was okay last teenage girl this time around she has got plenty of spite about her and um i think he's in for an interesting ride all right then and where does angels fury get to from an inside gate it'll go forward it'll be in the first few it's got speed at 1200 meters i think they'll let super beck run they led in one two starts ago missed the kick given i hope the other day and aroused will be up on the speed there's quite a few that go forward angels fury comes into barrier one it will be right up on the pace somewhere could you play
Speaker 2almost an angel for your multiples oh look it's got a place chance i don't think it's good enough
Speaker 3to win it's got a place chance
Speaker 2have you ever seen a stable like he's he's been a champion trainer for many many a year now kiramar but have you ever seen a stable that is just red hot at the moment
Speaker 3no it's amazing every feature race they're winning they're particularly like all the horses are racing well but they're distance horses they get to the 200 and they just click into another gear you know like the derby trial down at geelong if it gets becomes a close finish you just know what you're going to get from his horses and
Speaker 2angels fury i remember when she kicked off her campaign that they thought she might be a cool more horse i reckon she had a minor setback and obviously this is why we um we get to see her first up at this time of the year instead of seeing her a little earlier on in the spring i think
Speaker 3she was really early in the spring she might have had something go not quite right or you would have seen her by now the mckeown stakes
Speaker 2is interesting this is the feature sprint race on cox plate day this is the race at jigsaw remember there was a scratching at the gates and he was 20 to one and all of a sudden yeah tropicus and then all of a sudden you wanted to back jigsaw because tropicus would have been the horse that might have held him up but after watching jigsaw after that it wouldn't have mattered i don't think um but he has to go down the straight here tomorrow afternoon he's still the favorite at 270 boy cindy's done cindy olison's done one hell of a job with him extra galactic at 280 smooth chino at 750 ray mcnero at eight marzu interesting here talking to joe pride he's an interesting character he's got a lot of talent he's got a lot of talent he's got a lot of talent character marzu so joe said i've i can't do any more with him he doesn't want to go to the start at rose hill or ranwick he's worked all of that out um i had to trial him at kemler grange in hawkesbury so he he didn't know his surroundings um and then he went to the gates and then trial so he's now coming to victoria where we'll be trained by kiramar because joe can't get him to the start in sydney anymore but he's been a grand old campaigner he's at 11 splashback 13 arkansas and lefrakis is it a hundred to one here mark can't tell well there's
Speaker 3not much between them gareth i'll go eight to beat two extra galactic she's come back from a spell in great order she draws well jigsaw won't get it all his own way marzu's pretty quick yeah so jigsaw's not going to get it all his way own way control it around a bend and kick like he has been he's been down the straight twice jigsaw you wouldn't say he's raced badly and that's that's a long time ago 2023 so he's going much better now i'm not potting him on the base of the straight he'll run terrific i just think extra galactic has had the two back from a spell that took jimmy star at his best to beat her last time he's drawn to follow marzu everywhere a little bit of pressure up front come off their back and maybe this is extra galactic's turn to be two jigsaw just in sensational form i think if just try and line put them into a race like the goodwood handicap how would they all go i think extra galactic just beaten jigsaw would run super you're going to be very hard to beat three three ray magnerio didn't have the best of luck first up he'll be fitter and five smooth chino if you go off that quokka run he's obviously got some ground to make up but he's come back he just might be a better horse he was in the best part of the track there first up so a little bit flattering but he just might have come back a better horse racing better and he might have closed the gap on the other couple so eight two
Speaker 2three and five who's the best horse in this race you think the the mare is over giga kick i mean um
Speaker 3jigsaw ah there's not much in it no not much in it at all there's going to be very little in it at the finish here but he's going to be a good horse he's going to be a good horse he's not going to be a good horse he's going to be a good horse he's not going to be a good horse he's not going to you know she should be a group one winner extra galactic there's not much in
Speaker 2it i'm hearing um cranburn's heading to hong kong um cranburn yeah kingswood yeah gavin bedge good i read that yeah and i reckon there's a strong possibility that jigsaw might head over to hong kong as well well you would know yeah there you go eight two three five we might have to get a ticket to hong kong cover it all off to the hunter's edge i don't know what time it would be what probably about uh 5 32 i reckon but that's when you get to hong kong you get up anyway i'll be awake um that's a look at the mckeown stakes we're going to take a break this is giddy up live from the ascot vale hotel on the other side of it we'll have a look at some of the feature races in the middle part of the card including of course the key or a stud mile join the conversation text us
Speaker 1on 0 4 9 7 3 6 7 3 6 live across australia this is giddy up with gareth hall welcome back to giddy
Speaker 2up gareth hall mark hunter with you all thanks to kia the kia seldas hybrid available now find out more at kia.com.au and mark you should be playing this the six horse challenge um with bet 365 if you're an existing customer submit your selections for a chance to win one hundred thousand dollars subject to availability eligible customers only terms and conditions apply what are you really gambling with for free and free of charge if you're an confidential support visit gambling help online.org.au races 789 at randwick races 789 at Flemington if you get 6 right and you're the only person you get 100 grand 5 correct, 25, 4 correct 10k, I think 8 got 8 got 4 right last week and they got 600 or dollars, they did well last week with those Caulfield results, yeah I think only one favourite won at Caulfield, $19 every winning price what do they say, if you find a winner you find the value and you walk away a happy person, is that what they say, I don't know what they say who's they no one says that no one says that, no no anyway let's move on we're up to race number 6, the Keora Stud Mile I can't believe this horse is favourite I can believe she's favourite but I can't believe she's this short surfing bird 270, Buckaroo at $5, I was watching Chris Waller and Charlie Duckworth on their show there during the week on social media and they go if the real Buckaroo turns up he'll win but they didn't really give us a guide whether the real Buckaroo will turn up or not another wheel at $8.50, Von Hawk at $13 on display at $13 Sun Guard at $15, Ferocia at $15 and Suto at $15, Sukuma at $16 and then Pondolohe, Gaby gave Pondolohe a good push yesterday now into $19 I think it's
Speaker 3a very tough race surfing bird is under the odds so I'm going to tip Pondolohe as well who they have met Pondolohe in surfing they met on Melbourne Cup Day there last year and Pondolohe was ridden completely out of its comfort zone and didn't finish far behind surfing bird Pondolohe's been to the Cranbourne Cup against a similar field like this and run well ran well on the Tourac last time without the best of luck up the straight draws inside barrier one, it's going to be midfield inside just needing luck but there's a huge price discrepancy and I don't think there's that much of an ability difference in them so Pondolohe to win 12 surfing bird Pondolohe to win 12 surfing bird it can win it doesn't look to be a lot of pressure astral flame looks the leader surfing bird looks like controlling the race outside the lead surfing bird's two big Melbourne wins have been at Caulfield has to bring that to Flemington has to take on the boys this is a much harder race one von Hawke won the race last year with 57 I think he's going terrific von Hawke he's got the big weight here in the wide gate he'll get back and run on 13 on display comes through the surfing bird race missed the start was completely out of business D-lane good barrier better getaway can improve and six Buckaroo who would know Buckaroo's barely limped across the line it's last two it's completely at the crossroads it draws to be buried back maybe following Pondolohe into the race it's it's perfect set up duck dive and charge over a mile if Buckaroo can find its best form it could win the race for sure but just not sure where it's at 11 12 1 13 and 6
Speaker 2I think they're right the wallet camp if he turns up he wins like he was beating a photo to Vegas Sistina in last year's Cox Plate
Speaker 3I heard you mention your favorite Cox Plate with Saintly yeah and Juggler and most people here probably not old enough to remember Juggler but Buckaroo's a bit like him he gets in the close finish and he just doesn't tough it out in that race Juggler ended up running fourth I remember because I backed him each way okay and Buckaroo's got a bit of the same in the photo finishes you've got to time his run to perfection it's the perfect setup for him
Speaker 2another wheels on trust as well Kieran said he was disappointed him last start he's freshened him up and he's got a lot of time left he thinks he can find his best again
Speaker 3his best could win for sure that run behind She's Alibi was terrific and then last time I don't like those horses like Gringotts up in Sydney against Autumn Glow you know they try and win the race coming wide and forcing the issue and Otherworld did a little bit of that but it was still pretty weak up the straight but it's run before that could win for sure so it's one of those races
Speaker 2the Moonee Valley Gold Cup's a beauty Atherwolf's the favorite he's at five dollars Craig Williams, Matty Smith Kisly is the fascinating horse like he was too strong twice for Defietly who's the second or third favorite for the Lexus Melbourne Cup with bet three six five Pinhole is a progressive type at six dollars Juju Cabot missed out on a Caulfield Cup chance or Caulfield Cup run after winning a Metrop he's at 650 King Pedro's progressive stay at 650 Mr Monaco at 12 King Valley was a run and a half in the Caulfield Cup he's at what 15 dollars Valiant King at 26 Future History at 26 Deakin at 34 Jennifer Moose at 40 to 1 Autumn Mystery at 50 to 1 Torrezino at 60 to 1 the Oaks winner of last year Strictly Business at 61 and then you go out to the Kiwi Man's All Blue at 80 to 1 and Newfoundland is at 150 to 1
Speaker 3fantastic race it's a good race here I'm gonna go number 18 Kisly you run through its career yeah its first three flat runs were good then put over the jumps for three you don't take much notice of that copped the real bog track first up basically eased down its last three runs on dry ground have been really good comes across here drops back to 2500 which is some query but there's just such good stayers those overseas horses and down there on 56 wouldn't have carried that weight in its life I don't know how they'll ride it they tend to ride them like they've got to be strong and run them into the ground so I don't know if they'll ride it like that or whether they'll park midway midfield or forward of midfield and build into the race but I think I think Kisly I can win 11 King Pedro it's a beauty that Grafton Cup win was unbelievable it came back from a spell over the shorter trip and ran great I think it will run well three pinhole can only be fitter for that last win at 2400 it's got a great chance I'm putting in 12 Athol Wolf I thought he made a little tactical error last time the two wins prior he started striding at 1000 putting the horse into the race last time took the sit leaders back couldn't get momentum got out dashed didn't really have a chance to build its revs from that barrier with Craig Williams I think they'll stride forward have clear air and make it a real staying test and 9 Kings Valley you're right it had the beautiful Kiramar preparation into that Caulfield Cup was going for the bonus obviously got tangled up in that fall on the home turn ran home well should have nearly won the race so a terrific race 18, 11, 3, 12 and 9
Speaker 2alright then what about Juju Cabot the Metrop winner
Speaker 3it's got a big weight and a wide gate in a hot field I think it's a harder race for Juju Cabot it's going really well but I think it's a harder race
Speaker 2I don't know if they'll start Kislyar I've been talking to a few people in Trent Mason about who will make it into the Melbourne Cup field I think he's nearly in and it's Kevin Blake who is the racing manager for Joseph O'Brien told me yesterday on Giddy Up they would much prefer to go into the Melbourne Cup fresh than have a run under their belt so this is a punt they probably will win this race if they start but they probably can't win the Melbourne Cup if they start so you come all this way and you want to get into the race what would you do?
Speaker 3I don't know the ins and outs of who's on the borderline someone like Trent Mason Elder would know a lot better than I would how things are placed I think yeah
Speaker 2for me I think they'll take the punt I reckon he's nearly safe well it's a setback for my selections it is a little bit what about you? about Athelwolf as well you got him in the minor placings but he's an interesting horse from that gate
Speaker 3what do you do? nah you stroll forward there's not a heap of speed unless they let fly on Kislyar Mr Monaco will come across and control it again Athelwolf there's two wins three starts ago and two starts ago he let him stride at the thousand and put him into the race last time he took that sit behind the leader completely dictated to and didn't get a chance to wind up so I think Craig Williams will roll forward I think he'll get him rolling early and make it a real staying test
Speaker 2you can send us a text on the Garrett's Horse and Hound text line 0499 736 736 Paulie Sebastiani will help us out with the text messages today and of course Mark Hunter is here for Kia the Kia Seldas Hybrid available now find out more at kia.com.au we're going to take a break we're going to come back and have a look at the WS Cox Plate to be run at Flemington next in the conversation
Speaker 1text us on 0499 736 736 live across Australia this is the KIA this is Giddy Up with Gareth Hall welcome back to Giddy Up
Speaker 2Gareth Hall with you all thanks to Bet365 and don't forget the Sportsbet Peninsula Cup at Mornington Racecourse Sunday November 1 tickets are just $25 at Ticketek and Mark Hunter for the Hunter's Edge is here for Kia the Kia Seldas Hybrid available now find out more at kia.com.au this Cox Plate is one hell of a race Mark Hunter I can't wait for it now we've had some champions that have graced the turf this spring like at Autumn Glow and we had Kaling rising and Tempted up there in Sydney but they've been dominated by the one horse they've stifled betting this year's Cox Plate has it all really you've got some wait for age stars like a Sir Delius that's been there done that Aliana she's a rising star in this part of the game you've got these three year olds that have got everybody talking especially Warwoven who's won a Golden Rose and a Caulfield Guineas and then you've got the informed Kiramar runners like Land Legend led all the way to beat Shears Alibi in track record time in a Might and Power Light Infantry Man was brave in a Turnbull he's won an Australian Cup over the 2000 metres it's a race that has it all then you've got Charles Wolfe that has done nothing wrong this preparation he was pretty good there the other day behind Autumn Glow and then Cosmic Crusader he's coming off a Caulfield Cup campaign after belting most of these horses in a Turnbull Cup
Speaker 3Turnbull. What a race. Yes, it is, Gareth. You pretty well sound like it. it up you throw in the mix of how it's going to be run and it's got the hallmarks of being a really memorable cox plate
Speaker 2yeah how is it going to be run
Speaker 3fast yes uh look the obvious two they'll they'll end up settling one two from our wide land legend lot infantryman but they could take their time to get there i think the three-year-olds are pretty quick so war woven and blind rays if they race those older horses over say 12 or 1400 they'll be six lengths in front of land legend so it's just not going to they're just not going to come out the gate settle one two and run the race like that i think especially land legend is going to have to work to get there you watch that over headshot last time kingswood was a length and a half in front of him when they jumped it was a field of five waiting for a leader so they let him push through and lead now he's drawn 12 he'll get there eventually but i think they'll have to work from out wide it won't just be clear you know clear sailing to get there easily so i can see the first three or four hundred meters being really hectically run okay um
Speaker 2which is going to set up for him like who knows how quick they're going to go they'll go quick and it's a matter of a good three it might be a track record you got
Speaker 3quite a few in gates two to five looking for spots so it'll be interesting and then you've got aliena cosmic crusader drawn wider so it will be very interesting in the first 300 meters where
Speaker 2they all get to so the key to land legend is as kira martz pointed out is that he needs just to get to the front on his own terms he's no good if you hustle and bustle him um out of the gates because then he gets too keen he just needs to to mind his own business a bit like pride of jenny in a way and then just sip across when he's in full stride he gets that from the gate barrier 12 i love the way that they do the cockplate barrier draw yeah that's a great
Speaker 3idea and they've drawn the perfect gates if land legend was in amongst them i doubt he would find the front in this race i think there'd be too much hustle and bustle to find their spots i doubt he would be able to recover and find the front you know there are a few that weren't interested in leading last time in that field of five so he got there easily now this is a totally different kettle of fish they're racing for the grand final they've got three-year-olds with speed you got sir delius looking for a spot it's a lot harder for those two horses to get and dominate the race they should eventually find the front but i don't think it will be that simple early how are you riding sir delius is he going any good well he had the first up run which was a softish run he ran about as well as over the mile second up he was the one right up behind line infantryman doing the chasing he just wasn't ready for that pace he stuck on well i don't think there's a reason to doubt how well he's going he's had three weeks into this race i'm seeing how good he is when he's hardened fit i don't think it's fair to doubt how he's going it's
Speaker 2interesting because even having a yesterday he said in europe these big um wait for h stars are ready to go nearly every start where here we've got our two favorites sir delius and aliana that have been okay but they haven't won this preparation and we're all predicting them to explode here but they've
Speaker 3had a target date which is tomorrow they've had a target date so aliana's had the barrier trial first up where no one really cared where it finished uh ran better second up had that hit out last time so it's it's primed to produce its best performance tomorrow same as sir delius now they've just had they've been set for the one day war woven and blind race who's a better chance well they're very good three-year-olds blind rays was awfully stiff in the guineas it had blake shin had no reason to think he would be attacked like he was like tron bolt charging out the gates was extraordinary tornado valley was next one having a peck out three wide and then sarah fox who was five thousand to one charging forward three wide you couldn't possibly predict what happened to blind rays in the guineas so he went great war woven on the other hand was sitting back morning its own business smoking the pipe for the first thousand beautiful ride blending the race at the right time and then was too strong the last 200 meters so there's not much between them i don't think but the way the run they had war woven had a beautiful run blind rays had a tough run war woven's drawn to love on the fence blind rays is drawn to work a bit early so i'm thinking war woven is the better chance than blind rays yeah
Speaker 2blind rays will have to work out of the gate to follow the hot speed he might be the one that leads them up to a light infantry man three-year-olds don't go back
Speaker 3in this race so blind rays has to go forward and it's quick it's quicker than sir dealies and those horses drawn inside it so i would think jamie can't come out willy-nilly i think she's got to be positive get across those ones inside her then make a decision whereas war woven should be straight across birdman straight onto the fence and they can basically park wherever they want looks a lovely race for char wolf if he handles the travel it's got around two thousand meters got to run a brutal two thousand meters he's had a couple of goes against his own age he's had a few goes against open age i wouldn't say okay i know we ran second at derby so it sounds silly but that's against his own age he's he's just got to tick the box he's my second pick he's got a great chance but he's just got to tick the box of a brutally run two thousand meter race mcdonald's
Speaker 2got a tough ride like gate 10 with the speed that we expect in this race he's got to take does he go forward and try and slot in or does he try and wave his magic and try and weave his way through and get past a few horses like a maybe saint george middle earth
Speaker 3don't know like the spot she had last time in the turnbull is her perfect spot but she can't get there from that barrier i don't think so he's got to decide exactly right she's a good beginner she's not she's not a slug early she's quite she can settle handy enough um he's got to decide what he does in that first 300 meters yeah um cosmic crusader or coming back from the 2400 you think they would run a little bit faster than they would run a little bit faster than they would run a little bit faster than they would run a little bit faster than they would run a little bit faster than they so i would think it would drop behind those horses who were drawn sort of two to five that like to you know sit between third and sixth i would think cosmic crusader drops back behind those horses give it a chance to settle knows the pace is going to be on a bit like the turnbull give it a chance to
Speaker 2work into the race um betty melons had a couple of tries on birdman in a strong race two thousand meter race um how does he ride him from gate one to get the
Speaker 3trip can he do it well it went forward in the australian cup and was looked the winner was just found wanting you could blame him for him the wet track or you could blame being ridden a pair too close from gate one i think war woven will be straight across in front of him but he's just not he can't just flop out and settle ninth on the fence he he's got to settle where he wants to settle to do that he might have to make some use to keep those attritions and um you know chow wolf keep those horses off the fence so they don't barge in front of him then he ends too
Speaker 2far back can you please explain why saint george's nineteen dollars and light infantry man's twenty six dollars especially after listening to kira margast today no i he has to be a great chance surely light infantry man despite being on the front page of the herald sun this morning
Speaker 3he's the lindeman of victoria light infantry man he goes up north he goes the reverse way of going and he's just not the same horse you compare him against australiana's and that up there they would flog him yeah he just he doesn't fire in sydney he doesn't fire in brisbane his form in melbourne is outstanding his former flemington's outstanding he's beginning better if he can get the there without doing too much work he'll run a terrific race i'm going to make him my top four player that's not stupid surely no you just don't want to see him if he's tardy away he's in all
Speaker 2sorts yeah so he's got to begin um and he can be a little tardy away but harry coffee's got the key to him along with ethan brown but harry's had great success on him before um land legend he beat she's alibi what price would she's alibi be in this
Speaker 3race well what price would she be is she that dominant here at two thousand meters she'd be favorite wouldn't she probably but that's more on reputation i think she might she may well be favorite but she wouldn't be totally not as if she builds on who you're tipping aliana i think i think if she drew a gate i would have been thinking she's close to a good thing aliana she's had a magnificent preparation she's got the the derby win in sydney and the tancred so she's got the mile and a half she's strong jay mac knows her perfectly like she's underwriting but then he just keeps at her and she keeps coming and coming and coming she'll be so strong i don't know what she does from the gate that's the issue she needs she needs luck i think you would have that lady back at the barrier dice and choose 97 that might help um a little bit she said well you're one five on
Speaker 2the trot james i'm going to give you a little bit of an extra challenge here what would you pick team i don't know why i don't know it doesn't
Speaker 3matter nine and ten well it's one closer yeah uh so look i think if aliana can have some luck track you know it's going to be brutally run you almost need a mile and a half horse to win i think she'll win okay one chow wolf yes is it's fantastic last week chasing autumn glow gonna get it's got a great draw to do no work i heard joe pride interviewed it's fantastic listen to people like that talk about their horses how they know them so well there's a great interview i think chow wolf will run well three so delius i don't think the horse going badly i think it's fit now i think willow will send it forward it won't be far behind the three-year-old settling and it'll be right in the mix and look light infantryman can win okay uh cosmic crusader can win birdman will get a great run and love the three-year-olds we'll get to them you'll yes and no
Speaker 2straight after this next break this is giddy up all thanks to bet 365 the hunter's edge brought to you by kia um and after this break we're going to get the yes and no's for mark hunter for this year's ws cox play it is great to have your company on this
Speaker 1friday morning join the conversation text us on 0 4 9 7 3 6 7 3 6 Live across Australia, this is Giddy Up with Gareth Hall.
Speaker 2Welcome back to Giddy Up, Gareth Hall. Mark Hunter with you, all thanks to Bet365. As I mentioned before, that six-horse challenge, you've got to play it. There's a chance you can win $100,000. You need to be an existing customer of Bet365. And even if you pick four or five winners, there's a chance that you can collect some money as well. So subject to availability, eligible customers only. And the Hunter's Edge, always brought to you by Kia. Now, Mark Hunter, yes or no in this year's WS Cox Plate? Number one, Char Wolf. Yes. Two, Light Infantryman. Yes. Three, Sir Delius. Yes. Four, Attrition. No. Five, Cosmic Crusader. Yes. Six, Birdman. Yes. Seven, Land Legend. No. Eight, Middle Earth. No. Nine, St. George. No. Ten, Aliana. Yes. Eleven, Warwoven. Yes. Twelve, Blind Rays. No. No. There you go. The yes or no's for Mark Hunter for the Cox Plate. It's interesting, when you talk to a few of the trainers about these three-year-olds, some say they've got no chance if they're going to go as quick as we think that they will. They just won't be able to absorb that type of pressure in a Cox Plate. But Trent Bussetter made a really good one. Good point. He goes, you tell me a Cox Plate when the three-year-olds haven't had to go through that pain barrier.
Speaker 3Yeah, well, Warwoven has answered the challenge. Look, it looked like an on-pace grinding 1,200-meter horse. Good horse. But Grinder got the 14 golden rows, got the 16 in the guineas. She's got better every time. So why won't it sit fourth inside, do no work, and run well at 2,000 meters? Blind Rays, it's got to do some work early. It had the tough run in the Caulfield guineas. Just makes things a bit harder. The Tessio stakes over the same
Speaker 2distance of the Cox Plate, and it's great. It's great to see that the Cox Plate distance stays the same at Flemington, 2,040 meters. And as someone just correctly said, Gareth, of course, it's going to be a track record at Flemington on Saturday. Good point. This is an interesting market. Severado's at $5. Tudan Discrete, $6.50. Sunset Park at $8. She's an interesting horse in chocolates. Splickers go back on here, $9. Perfect 10. $9. Classic Gem at $9. Ocean Bay at $11. Sun Gift at $13 here.
Speaker 3You'd like to see what's inside Kieran Marr's head here. She's had the blinkers off at $2,500, and then the blinkers back on at $2,000. Obviously, the blinkers coming off to save it for the Melbourne Cup, but then they come back on here maybe just to wake her up and let her know she's not off to the paddock just yet. Look, I think this is an upset race, Gareth. I think number 15, Chispa's got a good chance. I think it was a similar run to Severado last time. Chispa was back inside them. Not really clear air to wind up. Severado was down the outside running on clear air. There's a huge price discrepancy, and I think Chispa's got a good chance here to beat Private Legacy, who's had the two runs back from a spell. Good first up. Too close last time on one pace. This is a race with not much speed. From a good barrier, can get a good spot. Eight, Jenny's Meadow. Had a couple of goes for the stable. Blinkers go on. It smells a bit of a betting. Coup with Jenny's Meadow. And 16 Moonlight Circus, who. Do you reckon Uncle Tony's betting? I don't know, but. I might text him and see what he says. Two starts back and blinkers on. 16 Moonlight Circus. Surprisingly, for a stable like this, it's never been beyond 1,700 metres. So here it is getting out to 2,000 metres. I think it's going well. Ethan Brown from a good gate. Severado can win. Number 13, it would be my fifth pick. I think it's a horse that barely runs 2,000 metres. They try to drag it out over the. Longer trips as a three-year-old. You can see why. You only get one chance. But I don't think it was ever going to run the longer trip. It just runs 2,000 now. It's fitter. It's racing well. It's got a top rider. It can win. So 15, 7, 8, 16 and 13. You're confident in this last race. You're back to a few. I was back to four roughies.
Speaker 2Yeah. Hopefully, we get the quantity. We're alive. Well, yes. Yeah. All right, then.
Speaker 3Let's get your best bets for Cox Plate Day. Best bet, race four, number three, Angels Fury. The Dino Multi. Race four, number three, Angels Fury. Into race eight, number 10, Aliana. The Rema Ruffy. Race nine, number 15, Chispa. The Daily Double. First leg, 3, 9, 11, 12 and 18. Second leg, 7, 8, 15 and 16. The Quoddy. Try and get the Cox Plate right. First leg, 11, 12, 1, 13 and 6. Second leg. 18, 11, 3, 12 and 9. Third leg, number 10, one out. Last leg, 15, 7, 8, 16 and 13. My $90 spend, two bets. $40 to win Angels Fury. Race four, number three. $50 to win race eight, number 10, Aliana. Spud. Race nine, number one. Race nine, number one, Beattie. It's a good horse, Beattie. It is. And Friday, we'll go Ballarat. Race eight, number five, Cushioned. Low gate, no speed, gets a great run. Cranbourne, race seven, number one, Ismali. So, two Friday fill-ups. Might as well win twice on a Friday than once.
Speaker 2It's a good meeting tonight at Cranbourne. Yeah. Looking forward to it. Now, plenty of questions coming through and I need to ask you about the Melbourne Cup as well because it's starting to heat up and there's different opinions on this year's Melbourne Cup. I might start with the Melbourne Cup and then I've got the text messages before we wrap it all up. Point of law, around $6 or $7 now, I bet $3.65. From the Aidan or Joseph O'Brien Gallopers, trust your instinct at nine, defiantly around 11 with James J. Braddock and then the Japanese horse, St. George Chocolates, Eliana. Eliana's an interesting one. I wouldn't completely write her off heading towards the Melbourne Cup either because what about if she finishes, hits the line and finishes fourth or fifth tomorrow in the Cox play? Why would they go to a champion stakes? I don't know, but he does tend to look after his horses. Yeah, but I reckon if she finishes midfield or hits the line strongly and she's looking for two miles, then he might change his mind. And he has changed his mind in the past. Who do you like in the Melbourne Cup?
Speaker 3No, I've got a lot of work to do, Gareth. A lot of work to do before I come up with a pick. I think point of law, it's going to be very hard to beat. It's a beauty. Point of law. I know you say it's an overreaction. It is an overreaction. It gave me more confidence. Well, there's horses that have got,
Speaker 2you know, better form than.
Speaker 3That doesn't equate to being a better Melbourne Cup chance.
Speaker 2Okay. Trust your instinct defiantly. James J. Braddock. Well, you tell me. What's the latest update? With James J. Braddock. Yeah, part owner. Yeah, I've got a small share. I've been lucky enough. Get a full part owner. Yes. Good luck to him now, James. But I've been in it for a little while as he was good enough to allow me to come in. And I tell you what, I can't sleep at the moment, but he has to be a chance, James J. Braddock, surely. A point of law's favourite.
Speaker 3Well, yeah, but they come from overseas. They're different horses in Australia. They suit the Melbourne Cup style of racing differently.
Speaker 2Do you know what's going to be interesting? This divinely. Like, if he draws low, then he can't win because he's probably not going to be able to lead. He needs to draw like a land legend and then work to the front and then just go flat out all of the way.
Speaker 3And Kislyar. Same sort of horses. Yeah, just flat out. So it's going to be a trill. He's going to be able to really run Melbourne Cup. Well, that will help point of law because he can get very keen, as you saw down at Geelong. So if those two horses, those two 4,000 metre horses, are ripping along and making a real grinding test, then every horse should be certainly OK.
Speaker 2Ethan Brown will ride point of law. Will he? Yeah. Yeah. And I think Ozzy will have a few options to ride Saran. But point of law, Ethan Brown will ride. He'll get to 53.
Speaker 3Yeah, he's got 54 tomorrow on Moonlight Circus, I just see in the last race.
Speaker 2Yeah. There you go. OK. Plenty of text messages coming through. Hey, Gareth, question for Mark. What's the thoughts on St George and the longer shots in this year's Cox Plate? Going to change this complexion of the race completely. So do you think that the jockeys will ride, obviously differently to a Cox Plate at Moonee Valley, but how do you think they'll go about it? What do you mean? Like, will they take off at a certain part of the track?
Speaker 3They won't be able to. They won't be able to because the leaders will be going that hard.
Speaker 2Yeah, they'll be gone.
Speaker 3Just like the Turnbull, just get in your filing order
Speaker 2and we'll see.
Speaker 3When the pace finally starts, when they finally start coming back to you, that's when you've got to try and make your move.
Speaker 2Yeah. Morning, guys. Inner Gold, race two, number seven. Your thoughts there?
Speaker 3Yeah. Inner Gold beat Valorosso at Caulfield and Inner Gold carried the big weight, got beat last time, gets the blinkers on, goes forward and is not without a chance at odds.
Speaker 2Could you ask Mark about
Speaker 3Valley and King's chances in the Moonee Valley Cup? Went better last time. If it could certainly recapture its form from last campaign, it's right in the mix now. It had a very tough run in the Melbourne Cup and I forget, gettable run, hasn't quite recaptured form after that. Last time was better signs. This is a hot Moonee Valley Cup, so if it runs well here, it's back in action.
Speaker 2Hi, guys. Love the show. I think it's the toughest Cox Plate from a punter's perspective for some time. I like Charwulf at odds, but I'm not that confident unless it rains hard. The form behind Autumn Glow should stand up, though. All the best. That's from Martin Foster. Good on you, Martin. I think it's. I love this year's Cox Plate.
Speaker 3It's a beauty. There's many angles. The three-year-olds add to it. The pace adds to it. It's a great race.
Speaker 2Morning, Gareth. Mark, please ask Woolwove and Mark, if Warwoven reminds – oh, sorry, we'll start again. Morning, Gareth and Mark. Please ask Mark, Warwoven reminds me of Red Anchor leading into the plate, plus I'm at 50s. I'm on at 50, so probably dreaming.
Speaker 3Do you remember Red Anchor? I know the horse. I don't remember it leading into the Cox Plate. I don't think there was a really strong Caulfield Guineas here. A lot of horses had no hope. Tronbolt was put out of business after charging forward, and Call Me Coach needs another campaign. So they're probably only left with two good horses in the race. But Warwoven can't do any more than what it's done. So, yeah, I think it's an interesting runner.
Speaker 2I'm having one bet tomorrow, and it can decide my punting for the rest of the spring. Sir Dilley is 1,000 each way. Gamble responsibly. Good luck to that punter. Hey, boys, Char Wolf put in a great Cox Plate trial. Behold, Autumn Glow. I think it cruised the line last start. The 2,000 now looks perfect. This is the race he has been wanting all along. Hard. Hard to beat. That's from Clary from Wagga. It's interesting. So Joe Pride, with the way that he's prepared Char Wolf, thought he was a big chance to beat Autumn Glow on a wet track and Pride of Jenny in the race. Now that changed when Pride of Jenny came out, and then he couldn't beat Autumn Glow under the circumstances. And now he comes to the Cox Plate. It's not an afterthought, but he had it always in the back of his mind. So he goes to the Cox Plate instead of going to a Champions Day now.
Speaker 3Yeah, well, if you had the lead up, if you knew you were having a gut buster, last week, you wouldn't be backing up for the Cox Plate. If you knew you were having that soft run behind Autumn Glow, the Cox Plate would be obvious.
Speaker 2Yeah, so Chad Scofield gave him a trial in the $5 million race. Not a trial, but he looked after him once he knew he was second. Welcome to the show. Why do the bookies have no respect for this stud? $7 is a gift there in the Five Diamonds Prelude.
Speaker 3Yeah, well, Linebacker's, I assume, his favourite, is it? Yeah. So Linebacker, I thought went okay last start without raving. Yeah. And Linebacker's got the Sun God form, in that last campaign, which is what Welcome to the Show's got as well. Welcome to the Show just settled a pair too close in the Turek, or I think it would have won. It would have a great chance up in Sydney.
Speaker 2Yeah. I think it would be hard to beat. Hi, Mark. I don't think there's much between Warwoven and Blind Race. What do you think? Blind Race was third up, had a really hard run last start and went down swing, whereas Warwoven was fourth up and has a much easier run in transit. That's from Mitch. You've talked about that, but it's hard to argue. Hey, G, I like Ray McNeero this Saturday. Last start, no luck. Good second up, 1,200 metres is an older horse, better suited each way all day. That's from Smithy from Rothwell in Queensland.
Speaker 3He'll run well, Ray.
Speaker 2He always does. Loving the show, lads. Why can't two down the street win the last?
Speaker 3It can. Three for three at the distance, it can win for sure. It's got the 60 kilos, which can't be easy. There's, I just think, a few down on 54. And given the lack of tempo in the race, I thought there was a few down on 54 kilos that might have the edge.
Speaker 2Morning, G. Can you ask Mark regarding Torrezino tomorrow in Race 7, trying to get him into. Get him into the Melbourne Cup.
Speaker 3Yeah, he ran so well in the Cup last year. He just seems to be behind the eight ball this year, Torrezino. You wouldn't think off that last run, finishing last. I know it was a different sort of race, but he. This is a good field. He's got a lot of ground to make up.
Speaker 2St George under an injury cloud. No, it's what happened there before the Caulfield Cup. They take the shoes off him, and then he trots up differently, and they'll put the shoes back on him, and he'll be OK. Yep. What price did you get for point of law for the Melbourne Cup?
Speaker 3No, I didn't back it. I was going to back it for the Caulfield Cup. Oh, no. I thought it could win the Caulfield Cup. I thought it could win the Caulfield Cup, but. You said it was a star when you looked at the tapes. Then you look at the order of entry, and it wasn't going to get a run, so no, no bet.
Speaker 2Question from the Moonee Valley Committee. Mark Hunter, would you have given Middle Earth and St George a start in the Cox Plate?
Speaker 3Well, my opinion doesn't matter. But everyone wants to hear your opinion. Well. Like, Middle Earth can't win, so I guess it's the perfect lead-up race for the Melbourne Cup. As long as it stays out the back and gets out the back, it gets out the way. Yeah. As long as St George doesn't get in Aliana's way, I'll be happy. Put it this way.
Speaker 2If Middle Earth gets in the road of Aliana, you'll be blowing up. Demonstration. Yes, yes. Has Aliana got out from last year's Cox Plate still filthy with Hugh's ride? She wouldn't have won, would she? Why wouldn't she? I don't know, yeah.
Speaker 3It'd be a sustainer below her best. Buckaroo. Yeah, I suppose.
Speaker 2Attrition. What about if you own Selwell and Glen with Sir Delius? Yeah. You should have done the scan after the Cox Plate. It would have won the Cox Plate. It would have won the Cox Plate, yeah. And then would have been $1.60, $1.80 for the Melbourne Cup and then got scratched. There's so many questions. Most of them were answered. Why in dark sea have any chance in the Melbourne Cup after the Caulfield Cup? He didn't handle Caulfield, but I don't think he'll go down that path. Nah, he's got a long way to come back. Yeah. All right then, Mark. You enjoy yourself, mate. What's on for the rest of your day? Can't walk Flemington.
Speaker 3Yeah. Go and get a little bit of exercise in Gareth for the day to keep me sane. Yeah. Then I'll be at the races gambling, so I want to have a look through St. Arnaud, Yarra Valley. St. Arnaud. and Albury.
Speaker 2You say, like, Mark Hunter's always complaining. I'm working too much, Gareth. I'm working too much. Well, you're bloody doing five meetings when you don't have to. Albury, St. Arnaud. Something to back. Well, he won't be at work. I'll give you the tip. If Aliana wins the Cox Plate, my mail is, you have a wonderful day. Kia, Cardi, great supporters of us here on the Hunter's Edge. E3 and EV5. There's some terrific offers on those two cars. Visit your local dealer today. Thank you. Go and walk the track and give us an update, please. Thank you. All right, then we're going to take a break. That's Mark Hunter for the Hunter's Edge. This is Giddy Up Live at the Ascot Vale Hotel. You can't have a beer. Is it too early? Yeah, it is. Fifteen minutes past nine. On the other side of it, Dean Evans will join me from Winning Edge Investments.
Speaker 1Text us on 0449 736 736. Live across Australia. This is Giddy Up with Gareth Hall.
Speaker 2Welcome back to Giddy Up, Gareth Hall with you. And it is great to have your company. Live from the Ascot Vale Hotel for a special Giddy Up. Can't wait for the Giddy Up Cox Plate Eve luncheon. We've got some terrific guests that will be joining us after 12 o'clock as well. So, yeah. It's going to be a big day. Dean Evans from Winning Edge Investments joins us now. WinningEdgeInvestments.com. Professional betting education, tips and ratings so you can treat your betting like an investment. We're at Flemington tomorrow. The Cox Plate is a race that we can't wait for. And Dean Evans joins us now. G'day, Dino. How's things, mate?
Speaker 6G'day, Gareth. Good, mate.
Speaker 2How are you? Good, thank you. Let's get stuck into the Cox Plate. Who are you tipping this year?
Speaker 6Yeah, look, a few interesting facts from the last 15 years in the Cox Plate. Gilding. He's only won one from 71 runners. It was a 95% loss on turnover. And the only winner was the great romantic warrior that I know. Eight of the 12 runners this year are Gildings. And you've got runners, you know, it's a four-horse race. Runners who finish fourth or worse at their last start, one win from 61 runners. And who ran fourth or worse at their second last start, one win from 62 runners at 93% loss on turnover. And Sir Delius, who's most a favourite at the moment, fails that factor and he's run fourth at both of his past two runs. At 58kgs or higher, only two winners from 95 runners at 86% loss on turnover. So, you know, bidding against those older males has proven fruitful. It sort of shows the dominance of mares and four-year-olds in the Cox Plate, you know, in the last sort of 15 years. And that really narrows it down to Eliana and Warwoven particularly. Mares have a great record in the Cox Plate. Eight winners from 31 runners at 25% POT. And Eliana's going to love that hard run, 2,000 metres. Not as much as she'd love 3,200 metres in the Melbourne Cup, but I don't think we're going to get, to see that, unfortunately. But she's certainly going to be hitting the line harder than anything else here with the really strong tempo. She's working into good form. Her round win last rates well for this. And I think Eliana on top. Warwoven's flying, you know, we love the horse. We've backed him in the Golden Rose and the Caulfield Guineas this spring. But there's going to be a hard run, 20, 40 metres here. He can run a big race. But beating all these hardened campaigners is a bit of a query. I thought the big value was Live Infantry Man. He just seems the one that's crazy over. He's the best performer. His performances are at Flemington, over 2,000 metres, and in high-pressure races. You know, Harry Coffey won a Group 1 Australian Cup on him. He was probably the run of the race in the Turnbull last start, setting a really hot tempo and running second. Obviously, the mast able are absolutely flying. I wonder where they ride him. You know, there's talk they're going to ride him close to the speed. If you actually watch the replays of his two Australian Cup runs, he sat off them. He was sixth in the first one, came home over the top, third in the other one, well off prior to Jenny. So I'm concerned if he sits too close to land legend, that's actually. I'm not going to help. I prefer him a pair or two back. But, yeah, look, I think Eliana is the one for me in the Cox Plate. She stands out, and Live Infantry Man is probably the really big value.
Speaker 2Yeah, it's going to be a great Cox Plate this year, Dean. Then we go to Sydney in the Group 1 there for the three-year-olds over the 2,000, the Spring Champion stakes. Great betting race. You've got Global Gold coming out of different form lines, of course, winning the flight stakes. She's the favourite over the other filly, Proxima Dea, around that $5. A quote with Bet365.
Speaker 6Yeah, I'm most interested in Proxima Dea from a betting perspective at this stage. She's won four from four. She's come off really quick tempos in one. She's come off really slow tempos in one. She's won on a bone-dry, you know, good two. She's won on a heavy 12. She finishes off really strongly, gives the impression that the further the better. She's won on debut. She's won off a 42-day break. She comes off a 14-day break here. She's led in one. She's settled midfield in one. Written by Zach Lloyd. She just looks bomb-proof and a really, really nice each-way bet. Fillies in the last 14 years coming out of. of a group one at their last start. They've won three from 15 at 25%, PO2, POT. Third in the last 14, winning the round first or second at their last start. The Phillies do sort of profile on top. I was initially keen on Stormy Marco and back him in the Futures, but I think on the ratings here, the Phillies have a clear edge and Stormy Marco sort of maps well back on that slow tempo. Chris Waller's actually got an ordinary record in this race for his standards. Only one winner at $2.70 from 21 as well. David Payne, the trainer of Pox Madeira, has had two winners from nine runs. On the raw ratings, Global's Flight Stakes win with a couple of lengths better than anything else has done. But when I look deeper in that race, they ran eight lengths below standard in that Flight Stakes. They were slow out and slow home. Diamus ran second there. And then she was fourth, beating three lengths at Caulfields. I'm just not convinced about the strength of that Flight Stakes form, despite the rating. I think it might be a questionable form race. Maybe this will be as well in time. But for me, right now, the profile has really got Pox Madeira on top of Bond Proof Philly over Stormy Markham.
Speaker 2And then we go to the last race at Round Week tomorrow. You're keen on one here. It's a fascinating race. Estadio Mistela is the favourite around $2.70. Anthracite that was scratched over the longer trip there last week goes around over the $1,600 this time around with no weight on his back at $4.40. Robusto at $7.00. And then horses like Ozzapenko and Lord Penman around that $10 quote.
Speaker 6Yeah, I think Robusto is a great each-way bet here. He won a couple of trials at Rose Hill. He ran sort of plus-four lengths in both of them in his closing section. It was the second quickest of sort of 14 trials in the day on both days. He looked like he was going really well. Then he ran first luck in that $1.5 million Allen Brown. He just had absolutely no luck. He got held up, badly checked, never got clear running in the straight when he looked like he was going to make a run. He ran 14th and 15th, beating seven lengths there. So it looks really poor on paper, but he obviously drops very sharply in grade here to an open quality. He can push forward, get a really nice run on speed. I think he's going really well based on how he was looking in the trials. He's just got to put a complete pen through that first up run. He's obviously got some really good form lines in the history that match up really well in this, including placing in the billion stakes. So he profiles as a really good, high-quality horse in this race. I think that's perhaps well and looks an excellent
Speaker 2each-way bet. And you've got a Friday fill-up for us, which we love. It's going in race four.
Speaker 6Yeah, a bit of an each-way play here. A horse called Admire Me, having a first start for new trainer Scott Singleton. She settled last and finished really well to win a Tamworth 1000 metre trial on 23rd of September by half length. She ran 10 lengths above standard, last 600 metres. She looks like she's going really well with this prep for her new trainer. And I think she's one to follow this prep with Admire Me and could easily get the cash for us to kick things off well first up on Friday.
Speaker 2Love it. Around $5 there with Bet365. You've got a competition for us as well, brother.
Speaker 6Yeah, look, all your listeners can either go to sen.com.au slash win or pop onto the Winning Edge Investments website to see all the details. But we've got a Derby Day tipping competition. You can win two tickets to a marquee at Champion Stakes Day. They're worth around $3,000. Premium food and beverages all day long in a marquee around the 350 metre mark at Flemington on Champion Stakes Day. You're going to see the likes of Tempted go around and Autumn Glow. Also, the winner of the tipping competition to win 1% of Warband's prize money in the Melbourne Cup. He's run placings at Group 1 Level 2 of his last three starts. Had a clean-up run in the Geelong Cup and will go to the Melbourne Cup to pay $100,000 for running last. So you're definitely going to get something for that 1%. Yeah. So in Warband at least and also the top 10 of the tipping competition will win holiday accommodation packages worth around $1,000 each. So plenty to win and all they need to do is become a Winning Edge Investments member. They'll get details and sign up for the Darby Day tipping competition and all those prizes can be theirs.
Speaker 2So you go to the Winning Edge Investments website or you go sen.com forward slash win. Is that right?
Speaker 6sen.com.au slash win. Yep. And all the details there for the competition there and all those prizes available. You've got about a week to get yourself set up before the Darby Day tipping competition to work out who wins the major prizes.
Speaker 2And it's been some spring for your team at Winning Edge Investments. We appreciate you having coming on Giddy Up as well, Dean. We wish you the best of luck over the weekend, mate. And we'll catch up with you next Friday.
Speaker 6Thanks, Gareth. Appreciate it, mate.
Speaker 2There's Dean Evans from winningedgeinvestments.com professional betting education tips and ratings so you can get you can treat your betting like an investment. We'll announce our Bet365 Giddy Up Top 4 Multi with the weekend preview team straight after 9.30. Our Mega Boost Horse I'll never do it again after we got Coyne Rising beat last week. So I don't know who has taken charge. Maybe it is Sack Tumbridge this time around or maybe Mickey Gannon. But we'll have our Mega Boost Horse revealed after 9.30 as well. This is Giddy Up all thanks to Bet365. We're live from the Ascot Vale Hotel. I'll start with start to rock up shortly. Benny Kaluzi's just arrived. It is some morning that's going to be here on this Friday morning.
Speaker 1Text us on 0499 736 736 live across Australia. The weekend preview with Mick Gannon Betsy.com.au's Dean Watling and Ben Kaluzi.
Speaker 2Welcome back to Giddy Up all thanks to Bet365. It is now time for the weekend preview. All thanks to Maccas. And it is a big weekend preview coming your way because we did get the top four multi last week. Benny Kaluzi, hello to you. Welcome to the Ascot Vale Hotel.
Speaker 7Thanks, mate. Is this your local? It is, mate. It's one of the great pubs anywhere in Victoria, especially this part of town. But it's a bit different walking in here sober.
Speaker 2Yes, yes. It is like, it's a bit different. It's in the northwest of Melbourne. It's in between Flemington and also Moonee Valley. Schiltzy and the team do a great job. Nick Schiltz and he's got Liber working today. Tommy Liberatore, one of the great western, one of the great Bulldogs really. He's one of my favourite players. And it's a great punting pub. Absolutely.
Speaker 7It'll be rocking here the next three Saturdays in a row. Especially after a race day at Flemington everyone flocks to the AVH. They would still let Dean Watling in. This is how good
Speaker 2this pub is. And he joins us now.
Speaker 8G'day, Dino. Good morning, boys. I'm very, very jealous. I think I've been to that pub a couple of times, G, with yourself. But I wish I was there having breakfast beers with you two.
Speaker 2Yeah, hello to you, Mickey Gannon. G'day, G, Benny, Dino. And Zachy Tunbridge from Bet365. How is Braden? Is he on the floor? Were you, like it was 10 to 1 over 4,000 punters I think got on there last week. So it was a great result for the Giddy Up family.
Speaker 9Yeah, it looks very nice being there. But yeah, Braden, not too happy about the top four last week. Yeah, 4,000 customers at around that 9 or 10 to mark, $10 mark. But Carrying Rising did lose. So it wasn't a total strip out.
Speaker 2I can't believe we got Carrying Rising, Pete. Yeah. Yeah, it is what it is, mate. It is very, like, even the weekend preview team. I mean, the racing
Speaker 7preview team. Yeah, he let us down as well. But I think he's just clearly not quite the same horse in Australia.
Speaker 2Anyway, we've got to bounce back. Is the Giddy Up weekend preview top four multi-up just yet? It is.
Speaker 7It has just gone up.
Speaker 2$17.88. Yes. How about that? Now, I'll start. Do you want me to start? Yep. Light infantry man. You've heard from the experts. They give him a wonderful chance. He's trained by Kira Marr, who could train me to win a New York marathon at the moment. Harry Coffey will get him out of the gates. He'll be on pace. Hopefully, the track will suit him. And he will give you a great side. I think he's a great each-way player. But I think he can run top four. And at that price, he's a ridiculous price. He gives us value. He's got a big heart. He loves Flemington. He loves 2,000 metres, Benny. He is my top four
Speaker 7selection. I think he's slightly over the odds as well. Yes. So he loves a fast pace, 2,000 metres at Flemington. He's won two Australian Cups. So, look, you've had some rogue top four tips in the past, but I don't mind this one. I appreciate that, Benny. Who are you going with? I am going with Lazura, race eight at Randwick. I think she's genuinely a good price. Look, she's drawn outside barrier 12, but she's got a bit of a class edge
Speaker 2on those. We need it. If we're opening the batting, you need me to be trying to hit it for six while you just block another maiden, really, with Lazura. So she can't miss top four.
Speaker 7I wouldn't have
Speaker 2thought so. We'd be in trouble if she could miss top four. Mickey Gatton, who do you like?
Speaker 10Yeah, I wasn't allowed to put any value in this week. Gee, you benched me for the value, so I've just got an extra galactic, $1.16. Believe it or not, but Brayden wasn't happy about having to give us a 50 to one top four multi, so we've just gone straight back. Who did you want to go? I wanted to kick off in the first. The horse is actually, I think, was it the first? No, it wasn't. Flemington, race three. Race three, I was keen La Polo, but it would have been an extraordinary amount of odds. So we're just pivoting, late pivoting.
Speaker 2I'm getting some great feedback from my top four. selection. Your cooks is one of those. A bit harsh, Dino. As I say hello to you once again like who are you going with your top four play
Speaker 8well gee i like yours off the bat i think it's a very good play i'm gonna go the feature in sydney it is the spring champions we did this horse the other way i don't know how it missed top four the horse is stormy marco i don't think it misses this weekend though gee it's the class horse uh two thousand meters ready to go all right then
Speaker 2let's play the music there paulie it's mega boost time um zacky tub bridge which way have we gone this weekend
Speaker 9yeah so dino and myself were going through this this morning we flipped a coin between lindemann and lazura landed on lazura so three bucks out to four dollars fifty in the invitation which is uh race number eight at ram week so if you head to the race card i can see about 450 customers have already taken it and they it's about 700 on the multi g so don't worry about anyone telling you you're cooked so it's popular but yep lazura up there until about five past ten so you you can
Speaker 2on lazura benny absolutely
Speaker 9i think she'll
Speaker 7start with the two next i think she'll start with the two next to her name and um i think some of these horses in the market are too close to her
Speaker 2embedding beautiful so lazura is the mega boost horse you need to go to the ram week card it's not on the home page like the weekend preview top four multi and then you can get the four dollars fifty up until around quarter past ten i would imagine this morning let's have a look at this meeting at ram week and i'll go to you first of all mickey gannon how do you think this track will play
Speaker 10yeah rails out six meters there's been plenty of rain in sydney but no rain at ram week so uh i think we'll be on a good four on speed top six and run will be an advantage for sure four nanometer start point sort of a bit of a query for me um so i think up and in will be the place to bg the
Speaker 2moan and shandon spring champion stakes is the first leg of the quaddie group one over the weekend what's the bet three six five market doing here zach tunbridge yep global
Speaker 9goal around that three dollar mark but there's been plenty of bets for proxima dia obviously off its last one keeps winning right zach lloyd in that's around that 550 mark and then you got scaroli and second the third line of betting there will probably be a mega boost on this tomorrow and it'll be uh the top two in the market to either of them to win
Speaker 2who wins this group one mick gannon
Speaker 10i think the horse that maps best probably wins this race that is global goal so scaroli rolls in the air won't be too far away in proxima dia and now what's 14 days was 42 days between runs can be written more positively and i think global gold sort of sits in behind and she's got sort of just one speed and i think probably suited over 2 000 meters so i think she'll be too good for them stormy marco uh needs to be ridden with a bit more intense a little bit closer he can win he's also scrimming over 2 000 meters as well his sort of run came to a halt but global goal on top dino in a lucky enough race not a huge amount of
Speaker 8confidence yeah i like the race it's a small field it's a tricky 2 000 meter start i think proxima deer drawn out wide zach's gonna have to push the button early roll forward korma did that last starting they do that too like you mentioned global goal is probably getting the run of the race stormy market is going to be back last on the outside but it's only going to be three to four lengths you'd suggest off the leaders here so was 14 to 18 14 days between runs uh third up there and i think it just felt the pinch late you looked at the 200 meters and you were like oh my god i'm going to win this race and you sort of thought well stormy's going to go straight past and peaked on the round the last hundred meters now rock hard fit 2 000 meters i think this colt rounds him up he's on top i think he's a bet in the race and he's that is why he's my top four multi this week benny beautiful yeah
Speaker 7i like it as well i had a futures bet on stormy marco um probably a couple weeks ago when we were discussing spring champion or the derby he was only beating half a link last time around but he did run the fastest final 400 meters so i'm keen on stormy marco i'm also going to have something on the double goal she brings the different form lines she ate up the mile i think she'll eat up 2 000 meters even better what price stormy marco for the derby uh right now oh he won't back up gee surely well why would i ask you're telling me you're telling me it's right i
Speaker 2don't know i don't know i think there's a possibility i don't know he knows benny come on man 15 for the derby 15 dollars the invitation is the next race we'll look at this is the race that you have to be invited to yeah who would have thought and um our mega boost horse is the favorite here's act umbridge yep and it's been
Speaker 9popular ever since we went up so the real price is 320 you'll see 450 there until jump time there's 1100 have taken that that's very quick so they're liking that jerry gong 420 and then verona rose 650 they're not backing anything else they haven't really touched anything else besides lazura anyway
Speaker 7we'll start off with you here benny caluzzi yeah i think lazura is genuinely over the odds i think we're getting a bit of a price three dollars twenty because she has drawn gate 12. um but she started d pods on last time around belted the likes of verona rose uh look maybe her rose who forms a little bit better than randwick but i think from barrier 12 she just comes across finds a bit of cover and she'll be too good for these i couldn't get jerry gong anywhere near as close to her in the market i think the only horse that can beat her if they all run to their best is idle flyer so i might have a saver on her i'll just query whether she's going at her absolute best this preparation mickey gannon
Speaker 10yeah she's not benny out of fire that's for this this could be her opportunity right so she does draw to get on the back of jerry gong i think there'll be a high pressure race perfumist as garter miss free love even drawn low if she gets into the race she goes around no jockey booked at the moment same with us garter so that'll be interesting either way i think she can settle forward of midfield and give a sight she's you know a group one winner she's a horse that we've got plenty of time for and she's really hasn't shown a lot i thought she's going to come back and be really really hard to be wherever she went today for her uh lazura wide draw minor query she's a real second up horse third up she probably won't regress but i imagine she'll maintain there the two just leading the way of idle flyer at the price dino so the two from the one yeah
Speaker 8i think the speed map's interesting you do it with as garter and miss free love and you think oh well azura's car so you take them out of the race they're not likely going to make the field and it looks a whole lot better i don't think there's huge amounts of pressure perfumist lead stylish there jerry gong with a new camp they haven't really been riding this horse aggressive to lead so you've got verona rose arabian rose as well in the midfield i think uh lazura can slot in midfield there off rails maybe shove idle flyer to the inside how do i dissect this race well verona rose jerry gong perfumist and probably modella all got to run career peaks to win this race off ratings i thought the two horses that benny mentioned idle flyer and lazura they've already produced the figures to win this race so i like that setup i think lazura is going much better than idle flyer and lazura's third up run last preparation and all age stakes would win this event and it gets a very very similar setup so lazura firmly on top i think if they go back or forward g i don't think that will matter i think she'll win this
Speaker 2race cheerio to our great mate jayden shay the runner for the brisbane lions he's got a share in arabian rose for billy healy they're living the dream i'm currently 19 so i think she's a big each way price there and i can't believe dino i know she's got a terrible draw but you've got to have something on super smink don't we after the other day i know
Speaker 8g i thought she was pretty good late just again draws out white anything i have to take their medicine if it was a rail true day probably up in distance maybe g but um knowing my form at the moment when i jump off they do tend to improve five diamonds
Speaker 2prelude is race number nine and our old favorite is aki tunbridge linebacker is the favorite what price for him with bet three
Speaker 9six five yep 350 and 375 if you logged in and see a boost there but they're only back in the two here and that is the cliche boulevard which is just in front at 340 and linebacker just
Speaker 8the two dino yeah interesting race so we'll touch on the speed to kick us off here uh solid enough crystal clear you got welcome to the show as well evaporate should roll forward linebacker slots in there on the rails you got dulucci boulevard who occupies the midfield position outside of that you're full of back markers so thought as a race into dulucci boulevard versus linebacker i think whoever gets the best one is going to win this race running transit wins and i think that is dulucci boulevard i know it's only got one figure gano that probably wins this race but you dare say if it gets clear running in the epson last start it probably produces another figure that's good enough to win it so i'll lean the way of dulucci boulevard
Speaker 10yeah i'd throw one more horse in the mix as well welcome to the show i really liked his performance there last time he can be competitive and maps pretty well but yeah the cliche boulevard hard to beat probably arguably should have won that runs up to her figure the run prior she does win this race so yeah found it tough betting prospects how do we bet the race i think i think you probably just you probably just have to stump up the cliche boulevard and hope that she turns up and wins a job i guess job done but nothing between the seven and one in there for second
Speaker 7i'm probably the seven from the 12 in this race i thought welcome to the show's running the two rack off a pretty decent speed was brilliant he sat right up there mate the heart broke for tyler donaldson aiken didn't he he almost got his first group one very very good horse maps well from barrier four into cliche boulevard well we saw what she did two starts ago and then last start she was just uh completely hammered at the 200 meter mark so i think the boys got it right evaporate seems the hole in the market at 4.60 he's probably the one i'd want to take on
Speaker 2in the race after being with dino last week after he tipped uh tip tempted to beat um carrying rising he walked into this pub that i went with him and he said his head fit through the door not really and he said um he took half his shirt off and said welcome to the show - Oh, fully. It was on top. We're going to take a break. I'm going to come back and we'll finish off this card at Randwick next. This is Giddy Up live from the Ascot Vale Hotel. And this is the weekend preview.
Speaker 1Gareth Hall with you.
Speaker 2Benny Caluzzi, Mickey Gatton, Dean Watling, Sack Tumbridge with you. All thanks to Bet365, the weekend preview. And also Maccas, introducing the new Nashville Chicken Range. Nashville's, they tell me it's the best place on earth, Nashville. So we've got to get there. Do they Maccas run, not walk over there? I don't know. They probably don't even call them Maccas over there. Dino's been there before. 100% Aussie chicken with bold southern flavour. I haven't told Aaron just yet, but he's, my phone's just, it's playing up. I don't know what's happened to it. So I've got his phone and he, of course, Aaron working with this. He's a Bet365 customer. He had some money in his account. I've just backed the weekend preview top four molding for him. 70, give us the thumbs up. He's okay about it. He can thank me later after he wins. $17.88. How long would that last for there, Sack?
Speaker 9Yeah, the decent price, we'll only go down it just a bit, but that'll be the end of this segment. So whenever we finish up, us 10 or so.
Speaker 2Okay. Yep. And then the Megaboost finishes up at quarter past 10 and it's $4.50, the Megaboost. Lazura in the invitation, but you have to go to the Randwick card race six. Race eight. Race eight, sorry. And you can see it there. Let's have a look at the final race at Randwick. This is an interesting race. Joe Pride didn't know which way to go between his two horses, the Stardew Goat Mustela and the one down the bottom, Anthracite. And Dean Evans, a wonderful judge, he gave us a good push for a break. He gave us a good push for a break. Robusto, he's at Tunbridge.
Speaker 9Yep. Well, that's good to know. So Stardew Mustela is one of the best backed runners of the day at Randwick. It's $2.70 now, $2.80-ish with a boost. And then, yeah, the only other one they've had a little trickle at is Robusto. So those two are the ones.
Speaker 2One of the texts coming through on the Gareth's Horse and Hound text line says, love the way Dino just dismisses you, Gareth, when you take the mickey out of him. Good stuff, Dino. There you go, Dino. Good stuff, Dino.
Speaker 8Yeah. Thank you. I like the compliments. Keep them coming, G.
Speaker 2Yeah, well, you're on fire at the moment, Dino. You can't do anything wrong. Now, who are you tipping in the last?
Speaker 8Yeah, it's a bit of a trappy race, like you mentioned, G. There's a couple of horses coming off somewhat disappointing runs, but he's a hidden gems in there. I'm not too sure. What I do know is Stardew Mustela is flying, gets the gun draw, anthracite and thrice lead up this field. Major Bill Robusto there. I don't think they'll go very hard, but Stardew Mustela gets a much better setup, map-wise and last start. In 10 runs, boys, it's run and finish top two in those 10 runs, eight times over 1,600 metres. So it gets to that trip. I think it sets up beautifully at Gano, and Stardew Mustela goes on top in the last.
Speaker 10Yeah, my only query with that horse would be is if a couple of those out in front were leading by a fair margin and with the 61 kilos just couldn't quite bridge the gap, but if Stardew Mustela does land on top, no spoils the price, Benny.
Speaker 7Yeah, I'm going to be against him just with that weight. He goes up five kilos off last start, so he's got to run to somewhere near his best, I believe, with that weight to be winning this. So I'm going to have something on anthracite, the stable mate. He's getting out to a good price, $4.60. Look, whether he's fast enough for a mile coming back from 2,000 is probably your query, but it's a big pull at the weights.
Speaker 2Was he going to go around 2,600 or 2,800 last week in the St. Ledger? He was scratched in the St. Ledger. Yeah, it's an interesting setup,
Speaker 7but he did run at 2,000. The fact is he didn't run. He ran at 2,000 last start, so it's not as big a drop back in distance, and it's a, what is it? It's a nine kilo pull at the weights.
Speaker 2Now, the Craven plate, Lindemann v. Tom Kitton. I'm with Tom and Kitton. I reckon he can beat Lindemann. You disagree, Ben?
Speaker 7I thought Lindemann was one of the best of the day.
Speaker 2Doesn't Elias put pressure on Lindemann and annoy him?
Speaker 7I think Elias sits a clear second in the race. I don't think there'll be that much pressure on Lindemann. I think he's going to skip to the front here. Look, I think Nash got it a little bit wrong last start. He doesn't often get it wrong, but I think he went a little bit too slow and let attrition creep up into him. And you can tell the margin spread in that race. Second to sixth, there was only two lengths between them, which usually says they went very slow in that race. Mickey Gannon, then Dino, who wins the Craven plate?
Speaker 10Yeah, I think Lindemann leads Elias. We saw last time there's no benefit of Elias going any harder. Is there? Maybe there is. Who knows? Speed map's the biggest query. If they go slow and they go too slow, like Benny suggested they did last time, Tom Kitton does get his chance. So I think, yeah, clearly the two. The market tells you that. Lindemann on top for, you know, assuming we'll get a 10 out of 10, from Nash, but Tom Kitton can win. Not a race I'm keen on betting into, Dino.
Speaker 8Yeah, I agree with Benny. I think he hit the nail on the head. He sort of turned into what a sitting sprint last time. Benny, you see Nash sort of go for him at the 400, like to click him up, and they're already in stride. So he wins his races when he sort of progresses from the 600 and he hits his top at, say, the 200. So I think Nash will get a bang on on Saturday. I think Lindemann can bounce back. He wasn't poor last time out, G, but I just think ridden to his strengths, he'll win this race. We're going to take a break and then
Speaker 2we'll get your best bets in Sydney. There's some good races there. You've got the Presnell Calendar. The first race is a beauty, the Kirkham Plates. What else have we got there? The Calendar Presnell, I should say. What did I say? The other way around. Yeah, yeah, same thing. Brian Crowley Stakes is a beauty. Got a tip there at Kieran Starr. Unbeatable, they tell me. So we'll get the boys' selections in those races, plus their best in Sydney next year on Giddy Up. We've got Mickey Gannon, Dean Watling, Zach Tunbridge and Benny Caluzzi. We're live at the Ascot Vale Hotel. We're getting set for the Giddy Up Cox Plate Eve luncheon. Can't wait for that. It's going to be a lot of fun after 12 o'clock. I think this is going to be a lot of fun. I think there's still a few tickets, maybe three now or something like that at the door. So if you're quick and you get here maybe at 11.30, you'll be able to get a ticket. But other than that, it's a sellout. So I've had a few people text me, seeing if they can get through the back door.
Speaker 7I reckon a few have tried that over the years. Yeah, yeah, jumped over the fence.
Speaker 2So we'll see how we go. Oh, boy. Yeah. What's your best bet in Sydney, Mickey Gannon? Because the Brian Crowley Stakes have got a good tip here for Kieran Starr. And as Crowman pointed out, I'm going to follow Gareth all weekend. We're going to clean up. I think he's taking the PI SS. What else have we got? As I said, we've got the Calendar Presnell as well, which is a good race. It's got our horse in there. Central Europe. The omen bet for that race could be Why So Hard? Or Revengeance. Revengeance could be the omen bet as well. So what's your best in Sydney, Mickey?
Speaker 10Yeah, it feels like it's a really tough day. Speed maps are sort of playing a part in the way the track pattern will unfold. But I did lean on race four, number five, Kieran Starr. I think she'll get the job done. I think she brings the superior form to this race. And I think I would have preferred her with Superbeck in the race, but that's okay. They'll go quick enough in behind them and should prove too good for them late. So race four, number five, Superbeck. I was keen on one in the first. It's been scratched, Anamosa. They opened $19. I think it was $10 into $6, and now it's come out. It's just devastating. I think Royal Accord will win the first, but it is $2.60-odd, so short enough, G.
Speaker 8Dino? Yeah, kick off, G. Really keen. The Kirkham Plate 2-yard race to start the day. Royal Accord trialled up superbly. And importantly, it's had two trials, which is a cheat code for the Hawks camp. Going to save on Rosa Riddo, though. This horse has trialled up like a rocket as well. One will be forward, which is Royal Accord, and one will be back, which is Rosa Riddo. So we'll cover all bases. Going to go over the boys. Race four, number five, Kieran Starr. Zach Lloyd rode this horse. He's ridden Crescent King. And I think he chooses the wrong horse in Punta Tortilla Field, so I'll have a word to Zach. But I think Kieran Starr wins this race, too.
Speaker 2All right, then. Rosa Riddo. Kieran Marr said this is part of his play. I think he had 10 each way with his $100 staking plan. Then he had $80 to win on Kieran Starr. Who do you like, Benny Coluzzi? There you go.
Speaker 7It's a good push. I really like Lyndon. He'll be my biggest bet of the day. Race number six. I also like. I like Lazura. So make sure you jump on that Megaboost in race number eight. And race seven, we'll take the Dutchie Global Goal and Stormy Marker around $750 and $300. I think one of those win the spring champion.
Speaker 2How long have we got this Megaboost up for you, Zach? Probably another 10 minutes. Oh, that's good on you, Brady. $4.50, good price. What about Give Us a Spell podcast? What's your best in Sydney, Zach?
Speaker 9I like Global Goal. That's one of mine. I like Lazura. I agree with Ben. I backed one at odds earlier in the day. I'm scared. Easy backing in in the midway. But I've had something on Hell of a Nature at around that $13 or $15, Christian Buchanan. Beautiful. Yeah, that's it.
Speaker 2All right, then. Thank you, Zach. We're going to take a break on the other side of it. Thanks to the Rising Sun Hotel in South Melbourne, which is a great pub in South Melbourne. We're going to preview Cox Plate Day at Flemington.
Speaker 1736. This is Australia. is giddy up with gareth hall welcome back to giddy
Speaker 2up gareth hall with you benny caluzzi mickey gatton dean watling and zach tunbridge for the weekend preview all thanks to maccas and as we get set for the look at the feature meeting in melbourne this weekend it's all thanks to the rising sun hotel in south melbourne backing winners with premium stakes high quality service and the thrill of every race day um it's going to be a great day at flemington tomorrow benny caluzzi nine races this cox plate is some race it really
Speaker 7is it's probably the the most open cox plate that i can remember yeah i've only been into racing probably 10 11 years but i would say probably since winx's first cox plate or even the adelaide cox plate yeah when we didn't quite know winx uh what she was yet that was four dollars fifty of the field as well and this is what we've got again this year so i think it's the first time in 10 years it's been four dollars you know four dollars fifty four dollars sixty of the field it'll be interesting
Speaker 2to see what happens with the weather it'll be interesting to see what happens when the rain comes and how heavy it comes i i think it's going to be a good four for the majority of the the the card maybe a good three for parts if the rain comes it'll be back to a good four it'll be interesting won't it it just depends when the rain comes and how heavy it comes yeah i think it'll be a good four for the majority of the the card maybe a good three for parts if the rain comes it'll be back to a good four it'll be interesting won't it it just depends
Speaker 7when the rain comes and how heavy it comes yeah i think it'll be a good four for the majority of the the card maybe a good four it'll be back to a good four it'll be interesting hopefully it doesn't get worse than a five or six if it does come heavy during the meeting but i think we're going rail true the next two saturdays aren't we which is just so good yeah
Speaker 2because then the rail comes out three meters which it um they can't go any out any further because of the size of the the melbourne cup field um the weekend preview top four malts here with giddy ups already into sixteen dollars ten there you
Speaker 7go it was almost eighteen
Speaker 2dollars before yeah i thought it stays at the eighteen dollars obviously their scratchings and all that and that's why it comes in well one of these horses might have been really well backed as well yeah which one light infantry man um so it's still a great price i reckon yeah well the
Speaker 9real price is still around 10 bucks and you're still getting 16 on
Speaker 2yeah it's basically nearly double of um the bet 365 competitors so and we got it i like a lot of people got it last week um which is good so if we get sixteen dollars um on cox plate day look out 365 we'll be in some trouble yours is the last leg
Speaker 7and yours is the bigger one do you
Speaker 2know i got a lot of feedback saying that i'll be cashing out gareth um well i hope you do cash out and i'm giving away a couple of tickets to flemington as well for the melbourne cup carnival it's where world-class racing meets world-class entertainment and unforgettable memories are made october 31st and november 7th tickets are just fifty dollars at the vrc.com.au as it says in that promo unforgettable memories that's what will happen when light inventory man wins or finishes even the top four and the people who are getting stuck into me and there's a lot of them i don't think you might i don't i think you might be running out of um i will be a long shot to get this um win this competition today but i'm not choosing it it's paul sebastiani so you probably if you keep on begging me you probably will get the double pass there to flemington let's have a look at um flemington on cox plate day tomorrow and we'll start off with the first league of the quaddie which is race six and this is the stud mile and this favorite surf and bird she's nice and short i reckon here zach tunbridge
Speaker 9yes it is and just to tell you braden said it's definitely coming down at 1005 this mega boost so it's just ticked over 2 000 slips so uh you got about 90 seconds so best of luck gareth you've tried but um no dice there unfortunately from braids but race number six uh surf and bird the favorite 270 and then buckaroo at six dollars and other wheels there at eight dollars i can tell you two at odds that have been backed is von hawk the old boy and we're going to have a little bit and uh your old mate zakuma gareth yes we
Speaker 2finished fifth when i had him for the top four uh mickey gannon why is surfing bird this short can you please explain that to us
Speaker 10yeah i'd say speed map wise and the figure that uh she put up last time so there's they're the two reasons it was a big figure albeit probably well suited on the day so i'd be imagine she'll regress off that figure about how much does she regress and then she's well suited here again uh astral flame so it looks like to be the only on speed influence of the race so it is interesting uh i had another wheel there i thought another wheel can roll four i'm just trusting flemington dry mile figure two back and i think if you trust that and he goes anywhere near that he probably wins a race so getting a really big price to find out just from a price perspective another wheel on top buckaroo slow run mile back in trips a big query dinner yeah
Speaker 8it's not d-day but it's d-day of surfing bird outside of caulfield she's got two really big figures uh that have both come on caulfield is she just a caulfield horse i'm not sure we'll figure out there tomorrow i think she should be favorite she should be 2.60 i'm not sure she's on top but i think gonna hit the nail on the head another will is the one that's over the odds for me mark and do no wrong at the moment and you reference that figure two back i know that goes very very close to winning this race and if surfingbird isn't up to her best i think another will win benny
Speaker 7yeah i agree with dino's sort of sentiment that like surfing bird she's the one to beat 2.70 i don't think you can take that she is unbeaten four out of four at 1600 meters she's flying she's got to take another step up here but i can understand why she's favorite because some of these older horses buckaroo another will they have really been mixing their form of recent time so i'll probably have to have surfing bird on top but just just wait for tomorrow try and get a better
Speaker 2price and dean works for first light racing so he probably knows something that we don't since he's potting it um so we'll get a lot
Speaker 8of potting engine just saying short enough i just think yes i think she's a i think she's a really really smart horse she's just got to do it away from caulfield now i thought she was a group one winner last uh sort of spring carnival but she sort of didn't put it together outside of caulfield she's back last time maybe it's just 1600 meters like benny mentioned though race seven this is a
Speaker 2beauty the moody valley gold cup you win this you're into the lexus melbourne cup ather wolf is at five dollars with bet three six five the the big talking point in the next 24 hours will be kisly uh whether they'll take the punt the joseph o'brien team and go straight into a melbourne cup and hope that they sneak in i think it's looking pretty good for them at the moment that they will sneak into the cup or they take all of that out of calculation and try and win a mooney valley gold cup which he probably he's a great chance to do just that and then probably not be at his best for the melbourne cup because they think he's better fresh so what's the market doing here zach
Speaker 9very open market here you got five horses under 650. you just mentioned kisly are uh yeah after scratchings or whatever it equates to about 11 bucks into 550 so that's a pretty big go the other two that they like is king pedro and athel
Speaker 7wolf benny it's an interesting conundrum for the joseph o'brien team isn't it he's a real gray up for me in this race take him out of the race i'm really keen on two horses they are uh king pedro and athel wolf i thought king pedro's first up performance off a bit of a freshen up in that hill stakes was awesome he was finishing off as fast as anything against you know good horses attrition lindemann and the like and he gets a beautiful run from the inside draw and athel wolf he started three dollars in the metro and i think he's he can turn the tables on juji kibo because from the wide gates he's the one who can press forward whereas juji kibo i think they have to take their medicine and go back
Speaker 2okay so kisly um what have you got him in your melbourne cup field oh i don't know he'd be what would he be in the 30s yeah i think he's i think he's if i was a punting man and joseph said do you think i'll get a start gareth i don't know if he was my horse and he said well he's a better chance of winning the melbourne cup if we don't go the mooney valley cup i hope
Speaker 7he's not here you see the geelong cup yeah i'd probably go straight i'll
Speaker 2take the punt that he gets in
Speaker 7yeah the geelong cup the first three across the line were all from werribee all straight off the plane so they come here and they're usually just better than us i
Speaker 2think they had a similar situation at cheltenham and he was the first emergency never got a start so it's a difficult dilemma for that camp to weigh up with kisby i hear mickey gannon
Speaker 10what 31st at the moment on the uh yeah the order of entry there so and how many of those have coming are coming out gareth
Speaker 2you know um i've got to get that confirmed leave it with me because it keeps on changing i'll um i think i did the numbers last night i had him in um but that was a few 50 50s
Speaker 10yeah i'd be happy to see him in this race just from uh taking up a percentage of market point of view so i think you know 30 200 meters is probably where you're going to want to see that horse anyhow um that means that probably off of what you're saying there a few of these might be in the races really like jew and kibu might already be in the race if uh if kisley makes it so that makes it a bit different him i thought that he might be able to come across without the wolf i can't see a reason why you wouldn't if you're drawn outside it you just can't across you go back you can't win but if you're already in the melbourne car field do you want to win so the question marks everywhere there so it leaves me with king pedro and draws well inside look second up 2500 meters 19 to 25 some query but uh maps maps really really well has good figures over 2400 meters enough for me to spec dino yep it
Speaker 8should make the field just looking at it now there's a plenty that still want to come out so i don't think they will run in this race uh i can't see why juju kibo isn't favorite in front of after wolf uh 1.8 lengths a bit by last like yes gets a kilo quite a kilo difference in the swing in the weights but juju's on the arp athwals at the end of the race of the preparation, you'd say. So which of those has more improvement? I think Juju Kibo does. Samar's flying, and I like what Gano mentioned. Athol's drawing our wire. You sort of dictate to that horse outside, shove it forward, make it work, and slot in somewhere. So I think it should be favoured for this race, and I think it'll be well-backed on Saturday, Juju Kibo on top, Juju.
Speaker 2All right, then. I'm going to take a break on the other side of it for the weekend preview. Thanks to Macca's, we're going to have a look at the Cox Plate with the weekend preview team. Benny Caluzzi, Mickey Gannon, Dean Watling, and Zach Tunbridge with you, all thanks to Bet365. Zachy, we've got to play the six-horse challenge, so you can win up to $100,000. If you don't get all six right, there's a chance you're going to lose. There's a chance you could pick up some handy cash if you get four or five winners. Races 789 at Randwick and 789 there at Flemington. Obviously, subject to availability, eligible customers only. How many played last Saturday?
Speaker 9It is a no-brainer. If you're an existing customer, it's free to play, and there's all that money up for grabs. I think eight customers got four from six. It was pretty tough last week, and they just got four from six. They just got $1,250 cash in their account. $1,250? $1,250 for getting four from six. Like I say, races 789, Flemington, and Randwick. Probably best to do it after scratchings tomorrow. But yeah, no-brainer. If you are a customer, have a crack at it.
Speaker 2Let's have a look at the WS Cox play. What's the market doing here, Zach Tunbridge, with bet $3.65?
Speaker 9Yeah, it's all over the shop here. So if you like Aleana, we've got a boost on there to $5.50. But in terms of what they're backing, it's all over the shop. Che Wolf, they like. Light Infantryman, they do like. Gareth, they've taken a big chance. Junk at $26 and $31. Sorry, $26 and $31. And then you've got Sir Delius, Birdman, has had a little bit of love, and Aleana. I can't really steer you anywhere. So I'm very open.
Speaker 2All right, then. Where do we start here? We'll go with you, Benny Caluzzi, in the Cox play.
Speaker 7Yeah, well, obviously, it's going to be a fast run race, isn't it? We've got Land Legend drawn out in 12, and obviously, Light Infantryman in 11. I just think, I just keep coming back to the two class runners in this race, G, in Sir Delius and Aleana. I'm happy to get stuck into the race and back both of them. Look, Sir Delius, some people are saying he's not quite going as good as he was last preparation, and maybe they're right. However, I just think second up, he wasn't ready for that fast run race on a heavy track in the Turnbull. We've seen V.S. Astina come unstuck second up in a fast run Maccabi Diva before on a heavy track at Flemington, then come out and bolt in in the Cox play. So I think he can get back to his better figures third up here. He gets a beautiful map from five. And Aleana, look, I think she would have been so well suited in the Caulfield Cup last week. However, a fast run Cox play, this has always been the goal and even though she's drawn out in 10, they might just go so fast here that the first couple in running just completely capitulate and she comes over the top.
Speaker 2Mickey Gannon, who wins the Cox play?
Speaker 10Yeah, I understand what you're saying there with Aleana Benny, but a slow run Caulfield Cup fast run Cox play might end up being similar and I think it might suit her here, Aleana. What does James do, G, from the wide draw? You know him better than anyone. He loves to live in the 1-1. He's got land legend, light infantryman, blind race, cosmic crusader. He's got a crusader with plenty of speed. If he doesn't go with him, he'll end up last. He doesn't like being last, does he, James?
Speaker 2Well, sometimes in this field, you probably, I don't know, is it worth the pun? It's a pun if he goes forward because he could be caught wide. I don't know. It's a good question. I reckon he'd probably go forward, J-Mac. But then if he goes back to last, I don't think it's the end of the world. He can weave his way through. He's just got to get past a few of those horses.
Speaker 7Can I just say, I don't think anything will get caught wide in this race. No. Because they'll be that strung out. They'll be sort of in pairs or even in a file.
Speaker 2So what do you think you'll do, Nick?
Speaker 10Well, I think Benny's spot on. So I think we'll see a scenario after 300 metres where land legend's in front, light infantryman's there, blind race in behind them, and they could just be in a single file. So James will get the opportunity to come across, probably potentially sit two pairs back outside of a wall woven, be beautifully placed. She hasn't settled further back. Just looking at her last five career peaks runs, 1.2. 1.2, 1.7, 1.9, 2.5 lengths from the leader at the 600 metres. So her peak runs have had her all close to the leader. I suspect that's where she will be in the run. And I think she'll be the one there to relish the high-pressure race. So Delius, I want him to get back to his, you know, career peak third ups. He's nowhere near it at the moment. I think he can get close, but I don't think he's going as good as what he was in the autumn. But he maps to perfection. He can win. And Charles Wolfe might be found out, high-pressure race. Blind Ray is probably the betting prospect out of the two three-year-olds, just purely from the price differential. I don't think it's a whole lot between the two, but Aliana goes on top, Dino.
Speaker 2You're there, Dino. This is your big moment. This is our Cox Play preview, and we can't hear you. Oh, no. Oh, no. We'll get to Dino in just a moment. Like, Cosmic Crusader into 650 now. Zach Tunbridge, how much money on this galloper?
Speaker 9Yeah, it has been a little bit of love, but I can tell you it's not as popular as the others. What is it, 650? And then even War Woven, I can tell you, that's probably the most least popular out of Sir Delius, Aliana, and Che Wolf. So, it's a pretty interesting market.
Speaker 7I reckon those back at Cosmic Crusader are probably doing the rain dance, Jay. Yeah. And hoping that this track's going to be nice and wet. I don't think it's going to be quite as wet. They got Josh Wolfe's weather report. Yeah. Yeah, I don't think it's quite going to be as wet as what they think it's going to be.
Speaker 2Like, Light Adventurer Man and Land Legend, both big prizes. Like, Land Legend beat She's Alibi, you know, track record time.
Speaker 7He's none. He can't do it. Okay. Sorry, I can
Speaker 9tell you with Cosmic Crusader, we just had quite a lot of bets just coming in for Cosmic Crusader. Yeah. And also one in the last, which is just firmed as well. It's a very, very big firm. You're there, Dino? Jay, you got me there?
Speaker 2I'm back. Yeah, you're there? Yeah, I'm back. Take it away.
Speaker 8That's all right. You're there, Mickey. Well, I think it's fascinating with Sir Dilius. Like, he was favourite for this race the last 12 months around $2.50. He's been favourite first up. He's been short enough for this preparation, but he's not a horse who wins throughout his preps. He's a horse who wins in his grand final, and that's third up. So we're getting the best price about Sir Dilius all preparation in his grand final where he gets the superior set up all preps. So I think at that price, you've got to back him. Yes, he failed last start, but if we remember a horse, one of them, Romantic Warrior, came out and failed in a fastly run at Turnbull Pride or Cox Plate. Three weeks between that, and he rocketed on Cox Plate. Don't trust the camp. And the other one's Aliana. Like the boys mentioned, if you dull this race down, it's going to be a high-pressure Cox Plate. I think it's going to be the best horse comes out on top. And who is that? Well, Aliana's the one here who could run in a Caulfield Cup, could run in a Melbourne Cup, and win those. So they're the two for me, G. No mention of Birdman by any of the team, Mickey Gannon?
Speaker 10No, that's a bit of a query. Where do we end up back there? Like, gee whiz, three, I don't know, three pairs back the fence. Mate, if you're lucky, but I'd say probably end up four or five if there's high pressure. So I just had map queries, but I just, yeah, I also wasn't really wrapped in the last start run.
Speaker 2I know you gamble responsibly, 1-800-858-858. The other tip that I'm, like I'll be looking for here anyway, I'll watch this Cox Plate closely, and if Alianu is finishing third or fourth, but hitting the line strongly, like, and Chris Waller's thinking, don't you dare. Champion stakes for Melbourne Cup. I wouldn't rule her out. You've told us for three weeks she's not going. Well, I'm just saying that. Didn't James get booked on something else, G? Well, no, he hasn't been confirmed yet.
Speaker 7Oh, it's a funny story. I read it last night, he was booked. Funny story. Don't believe
Speaker 2everything you read.
Speaker 7Dino, that tweet got deleted last night. So someone, someone from the UK put it up saying he was booked, and then it got deleted. So maybe the door's half open.
Speaker 2Well, if he was going to be riding one of the choices, he would have said by now, I reckon, J-Mac, unless he's going to break it to us at our luncheon this afternoon, which he did last year. But I think Alianu's unlikely to start in a Melbourne Cup, but Chris Waller's always said that he's kept his options open. And I'm just saying, if she finishes a fourth in a Cox Plate, and looks like she needs the two miles, he's got an option to go to the Melbourne Cup.
Speaker 7Let's just say it will be the first time. So what price is she now?
Speaker 2You could have backed her now, but I'm saying if she wins the Cox Plate, she won't go to the Melbourne Cup. She'll go straight to the champion stakes. But if she finishes fourth or fifth.
Speaker 10Fifteen bucks. Why would you win a Cox Plate and not go to a Melbourne Cup?
Speaker 2I don't know, but that's what I'm just. That's just my thoughts, Michael. I would go to the Melbourne Cup.
Speaker 7It reeks of very elegant, doesn't it? Flash on for third.
Speaker 2Perfect sample. Fifty-eight kilos. She's got too much weight.
Speaker 7Who cares about the weight? She wins by four.
Speaker 2Sometimes you've just got to try and read the man, like we're trying to read Chris Waller. And he doesn't think like you, Mickey Gannon, or Wayne Hawks. And I think most of us thought that he would go to the Melbourne Cup. But that's how I'm thinking. I like this, dude. Paul is so quick on the buttons, it's the best. Yeah, so anyway, is that confused anyway?
Speaker 10Two weeks ago, you've declared she's never. going there. She's no possible now. You reckon she's going there?
Speaker 2No, I said she was always unlikely. Like, people, like, have – I think in the perfect world, she wins the Cox Plate and then wins the champion stakes. I think that's the perfect world for Chris Waller and the team. But if she looks like she's just grinding away, that's why he's kept his options open. Yeah, well, you just had to get one last track and make it 20. Cut that out. Oh, let's move on. Come on, Chris. Let's move on to the next one. Take a leap of faith, Chris. Yeah, let's move on to the last race, yes. And this is the Tessio Stakes over the 2,000 metres. What are they doing here in the market, Zach?
Speaker 9All right, I'll take over. So we got – I just mentioned some bets come in. Some good bets just came in for chocolates, which is into $7 now. We were top of the market there at $11, so it's into $7. A lot of money just in the last half an hour or the last 20 minutes. But at the top of the market is Soverato at fives, and then you've got two down discreet, which they have backed. And another one. A couple of odds. After summer, big odds, and classic gem, Pikey.
Speaker 7All right, then. We'll start off with you, Benny. Yeah, my best value of the entire day comes up here, and the top weight in two down discreet. I'm backing her each way very, very keen. She's unbeaten three out of three at 2,000 metres, G. And I thought her run in the two rack was brilliant from the back. Look, she's got to carry the bit of weight here, 60 kilos, but I think she's classy enough to do so. So I'm really keen on her. I might have a saver on Soverato, but I'm really keen. Two down discreet. All right, then.
Speaker 10Now, Mickey Gannon. Yeah, I think Soverato just gets a perfect map, gets a jockey upgrade, and a much better draw this time around. So 2,000 metres might be her top, but it's going to be a soft 2,000 metres. I think she's there to win. Jenny's Meadow interests me here. So blinkers go on again. Has good figures, this set-up. I think could be a great place bet, the eight. So I'm back to eight, the place, and I'm back to 13 to win, Dino.
Speaker 8Yeah, the only query I thought with Soverato was why J-Mac wasn't riding, but comes through the unleashing form, which we saw G live last week, rip home there. One of the early races on Everest Day. So like Gannon mentioned, gets the gun run. I think Soverato rounds to see how to win her in the last. All right, then.
Speaker 7And just on two down discreet, have a look at this. The last time she ran 2,000 metres at Flemington, she beat. Land Legend. Land Legend, Cox Plateform. Who rode Land Legend? Jake Noonan. There you go. There you go.
Speaker 2What about your best bets at Flemington? Flemington on a Saturday. We'll start off with you, Mickey Gannon.
Speaker 10Yeah, I knew you'd do that. I'm not ready. All right, here we go. Race five, Extra Galactic. Extra Galactic. Are you ready? And race nine, number 13, Soverato.
Speaker 2Yep. All right, then. What was that again, Mickey?
Speaker 10Race five, number eight, Extra Galactic. Race nine, number 13, Soverato. And race three, number one, La Polo each way.
Speaker 8Okay. Dino? Yep. Race four. Number three, Angels Fury should be favorite. Will start favorite and has trod like a rocket. And I agree with Gannon. I think it's advantage that horse over Jigsaw who goes down the straight. Don't really like that setup. And in the first, I want to find something, Benny, to beat this favorite. I don't think it's going that well. So if you can do that for me, that'd be great. Well, I'm keen on a nice call.
Speaker 7Yeah. Here you go, Mick. You're keen on the horse. You took a nice call.
Speaker 2Now, that was great. That's great, Mickey. I don't know what you're. It's the delay doesn't really work when you do that. Anyway, you go, Benny.
Speaker 7I'm going to be back in ice cool. I don't think Damien Lane gets down to 53 and a half kilos all that often in the first. And this horse is unbeaten at the thousand meters. I'm going to stick with Jigsaw in race five in the McEwen. Look, he's a different horse right now to when he was been down the straight previously. And in the Cox Plate, I'm really keen either one of Aliana or Sir Delius, who's got out to $5 now, win it.
Speaker 2All right, then, Mickey, what were you going to say there?
Speaker 10Yeah, apologies, G. Brett Amore, I thought, is a horse with a fair bit of upside.
Speaker 2All right, then.
Speaker 10Beautiful. Speaking of Mitchie Lewis from the Jolly Stable, they go to Flemington a bit. So, keen. Keen, he can beat the favourite.
Speaker 2All right, then. Geez, I'm getting a lot of feedback regarding the Aliana situation. All I was saying was that I think it's unlikely, and Chris Wallace said it's unlikely that she goes he doesn't want to run her in the Melbourne Cup, but he's kept his options open. And I'm saying if she finishes a fourth or a fifth and she looks like she's not going to win a champion stakes, he might try and go down that Melbourne Cup.
Speaker 7With Chris Wallace and Futures betting, you've always got to read between the lines a little bit, don't you? He said she's not running, she's not running, or she's unlikely. And then the next day, they pay up for the third set of acceptances.
Speaker 2Autumn Boy was Cox Plate, and then it changes after he watches She's Alibi in that might and power, and then he goes down to. Yes, things change. Back to Sydney for the Golden Eagles. So, yeah, I don't think they've got every right to keep their options open. Absolutely. Yeah. All right, boys, have a wonderful weekend. It's going to be a lot of fun. Dino and Mickey, I'll see you next week in Melbourne. So, I'm looking forward to that.
Speaker 8Looking forward to it, boys. Can't wait, G. Get that spare room ready.
Speaker 2Yes, yes. It's a fight between you and Mick. Zach, good on you, brother. See you, guys. Good on you, Mick. Thanks, mate. Good on you, Benny.
Speaker 7Enjoy the beers, whoever's coming to the AVH today.
Speaker 2That's the weekend. Preview. Great to have your company, boys. We'll take a break and come back with plenty more. Great to have your company on this Friday morning. We're live from the Ascot Vale Hotel, and we're looking forward to our Cox Plate luncheon this afternoon just after 12 o'clock, so it's going to be a lot of fun. And we've got a few big-name guests that will be rolling through before we wrap up. Giddy Up here on RSN, SENTrackAndRacing.com and SENTurf. So they will be joining me for the last 30 minutes or so, and it will be a lot of fun. Now, thanks to TheBeatenFavourite.com, Nick Ashburn joins. It's always great to catch up with Nick. Hello to you, mate. Hello, G. Hey,
Speaker 11if you haven't been to the Ascot Vale Hotel, you've got to try it. Don't try the AVH cheeseburger, mate. It goes off pickles and fries. It's the second-best burger going around.
Speaker 2Yeah, apart from TheBeatenFavourite burger with a lot of just-ordered one right now, so hopefully I can. I've only got two-minute breaks, which makes it a little harder to get through a hamburger, but we'll try our very best.
Speaker 11I've heard you're quick at everything, so I'm sure you'll find a way.
Speaker 2Who wins the Cox Plate, Nick?
Speaker 11Oh, I don't really know, I'll be honest with you. It's such a good race. I see we've got just about every group one 2,000-metre winner from the last 75 years in it. And it's obviously at Flemington, that's a new dimension. We've got good pace in the race with Lamb Legend and Light Infantry Man, so it sets up for a real epic showdown at headquarters there in Melbourne. I can't wait to watch it. Mate, I ended up going with Blind Rays. I know he looked like, you know, he was comfortably beaten by Warwoven, who's obviously very good, but there wasn't much between them in the market. I think it was 240 on 310. And I thought Blind Rays did a lot of work up the hill from that mile start early in the race. And that, you know, even Piero that year when he sort of went hard up the hill, he got run down by all too hard. It's very difficult to use yourself early in a mile race at Caulfield and finish off. And I thought the fact that he was still in front with about 120 to go was a sign, you know, he was still in front of a horse that can really cop a bit of pressure and still fine. And if you look at the two horses that sat up with him in that Caulfield Guineas, they both dropped off coming around the home turn and he kept on finding. So there's a little bit of stoutness in his pedigree. He's obviously got to turn the tables on Warwoven, but at the price of going
Speaker 2with him in the Cox Plate. - Beautiful, mate. What about your best bets
Speaker 11outside of the Great Race? - Yeah, look, it's, I think in the opener down there, point and shoot down there. Now, Ice Cool's a very good horse and I'd definitely be having a saver on him, but I think point and shoot, ran the best last eight, six, four, and two of the entire meeting when he resumed last preparation. Looks a bit of a set play and he's a get back run on sprinter, I reckon. They tried him over in the Australian Guineas behind Feroce. That was the only time he's raced at Flemington G and I reckon that was just too far. He's just a get back run on sprinter. And I think Flemington will really suit him. So have something on him in the opener around that $6 mark. Make sure you have a saver on Ice Cool. He'll definitely be in front of him in the run. And down there, I didn't mind Chocolates as well in the ninth race. She can't get a penalty if she wins, is what I've been told. And I just think this is like that traditional, the old school McKinnon stakes, you know? She's coming back from the mile and a half to a 2,000 meter run before the Melbourne Cup, but it's restricted to mares. She's well placed under the scale. And I just think around that nine, $10 mark, she's worthy of a sort of a one by two bet. -
Speaker 2She's one of the most interesting runners all day with the blinkers on. - Mm. - I reckon I had a chat to Harry Coffey yesterday and he says she's just flying the mare. Flying. - Yeah. - Yeah. -
Speaker 11She's flying, Stable's flying. And there's no reason why she can't, you know, she can win. There's no weight penalty coming if she wins the race. So she comes out and wins that race. She's going to be fine. It looks to me like she's got more than enough ability to win it, and She's been taking on the good, older, hard male stayers. And now she drops back against the girls. Fair enough, she comes back and trips. But she seems like a nice, friendly price for mine.
Speaker 2Yeah. Thebeatenfavorite.com, how do we get involved?
Speaker 11Yeah, go to thebeatenfavorite.com, theworksburger. I'm just literally about to send it all out now. You've got track reports for five meetings. You've got bet sheets for four different meetings. We're sitting at about plus 26% profit on turnover so far this carnival after a shocking start to the year, as I kept on talking about probably foolishly. The only other bit of news I've got for you, mate, I bred my first horse this morning. I had a full-born in Scone, yeah, by all too hard out of a mare called Amber's Joy. Yes. So Colt was born, a leggy Colt with a bit of size about him at about 6.40 a.m. this morning. So I'm up and about for Cockplate Weekend.
Speaker 2Are you keeping him or selling him?
Speaker 11We'll sell him, sell about 70%. Obviously, I want to keep him, but we'll work out how all that works. I've got no idea what I'm doing, mate. I've got zero idea, so I'm sure I'll get handled somewhere along the way.
Speaker 2Have you had any future plays for the Melbourne Cup or some of the big races during the Flemington Carnival?
Speaker 11Yeah, I landed on Sir Dealers in this race tomorrow, but I'm just a little bit worried about him off that heavy track. Next week, I've backed. Surfing Bird. Now, I don't know if she backs up in the Empire Rose, but.
Speaker 2I think she does. That's the plan.
Speaker 11Yeah, I think so, too. So we're waiting. So obviously, you've got to wait and see until after tomorrow, but I'm really keen on her in the Empire Rose. She was $27. We sent something out to our database a few weeks ago. In the Cup itself, obviously, the horse that won the Geelong Cup on Wednesday was very good. Got a fair penalty, I thought, for winning that. I like Trust Your Instinct. He's the horse that I like. I think if Point of Law is winning the Geelong Cup and they're running the trifecta, I've got a feeling Trust Your Instinct might blow them all away, but we'll see how things unfold. Of course, the mounting yard is always a big key for the Melbourne Cup international runners. You've got to make sure they don't melt down.
Speaker 2Good on you, brother. You enjoy your day. Congratulations on the news that you are a father once again, and good luck this weekend.
Speaker 11Thanks, mate. Enjoy the burger.

Speaker 2He just lives around the corner, Josh McGuinness from Country Racing Victoria. So he joins me here at the Ascot Vale Hotel. This is just Coke Zero, by the way. Hello to you, Josh. You sure about that, G?
Speaker 12Oh, 100%. Quarter to 11. Yeah. No, no, no. We'll take your word for it.
Speaker 2We'll have a beer at about 5 past 12.
Speaker 12No, I'll look forward to it as well. But no, to the team at the Ascot Vale, they do a wonderful job. And yeah, this is our local. We'll be here tomorrow night after the races. So looking forward to it. But big weekend.
Speaker 2How was Geelong Cup Day? Were they happy?
Speaker 12Terrific day. Yeah. Yeah. Wonderful conditions. The weather was awesome. Such a difference from last year. There was about 9,000 that poured through the turnstiles that enjoyed a terrific day of racing as well. And how about the winner, Point of Law? Wasn't he sensational? You know, he rode that hot, hot speed and found plenty in reserve. And, you know, he's been given a two-kilo penalty into the Melbourne Cup. And yeah, he's rocketed to favouritism. It was an awesome win. And the runs in behind him were good as well, maybe for Queen Elizabeth or something along those lines, but for Omni-Man and Small Fry. If they get it, if they can sneak into the field, they're, you know, probably top five, top ten chance. But no, the winner was fantastic. And there was plenty of carry-on in the mounting yard afterwards. One of your very own, Johnny O'Neill.
Speaker 2He loves the camera, Johnny O'Neill. He wasn't shying away. Kissing Ethan Brown on the lips.
Speaker 12He did. He certainly did. Reminding everyone that he'd taken some of the, I think he said the 50s.
Speaker 2No, he got 100 to one. He got 100 as well.
Speaker 12Even better. But no, good luck. They've got a lot, obviously a lot of chance in the Melbourne Cup. But no, a wonderful day on course. Geelong do a terrific job. They've obviously got their Cup day. They have their Super Saturday meet in January as well, where they attract a huge crowd. The three-year-old Geelong Classic, is normally a pretty good pointer to the Derby as well, where we saw Mashidi outstay his rivals to present as a live chance in the Derby next Saturday. So, no, wonderful day on course.
Speaker 2What about this weekend, Sonata Cup day, Sale Cup day on Sunday, and we've got Yarra Valley and Alexandra both on Saturday. So, plenty of options for race goers around Victoria to get to the races.
Speaker 12Yeah, there are. And Sonata is one of the little hidden gems on the Victorian circuit. They're a community-led club driven by, by the Knights family, who have held every role at the club for the last 50 or 60 years. Shout out to Billy Knights and everyone involved with the team there. They do a terrific job. And everyone involved in the Sonata Turf Club, they're owners of Steparty as well. And they're declaring him next Saturday at Flemington. Absolutely, they are.
Speaker 2I think they're going to Ascot in Perth with Steparty as well.
Speaker 12And then afterwards to the railway. But, no, a wonderful family, the Knights family. And good luck to everyone involved. The $40,000 cup itself, it's going to be spearheaded by Regal Lyon for Beji, who's, of course, going wonderfully well at the moment. But, no, a terrific day. And then on sale, on Sunday, we've got the sale cup day. Listed race worth a couple of hundred thousand dollars. It's headlined by. Pinstriped. Pinstriped, absolutely. So, he'll carry 60 kilos. I think they put up $8 or $9 as well. Okay. So, if he can get through the wet conditions, fingers crossed for sale because they had their cup day, last year marred by rain and he's hoping it can miss. the Gippsland region, but fingers crossed for them. Plenty to do on course. There's still some tickets available. A really good field. Ten Commandments, who's been up for a long time for Kieran Marr. He'll like it wet. El Rocco was last year's winner for Johnny Mercado. He swims. And Freedom Rally, won't mind it wet either.
Speaker 2And then the Bendigo Cup day on Wednesday. It's become a really good race for the Melbourne Cup, the Bendigo Cup.
Speaker 12Certainly has in recent years. We've seen the likes of obviously Knight's Choice used it as his final lead-in run. He ran fifth in the Bendigo Cup before he famously saluted on the first Tuesday in November. And even in the years prior, we've seen the likes of High Emotion and Interpretation win the Bendigo Cup to springboard into the Melbourne Cup, where they ran really creditable races. And it's going to shape up as another excellent field. We might see a couple of internationals as well, but always a ripper day at Bendigo. They'll expect six or seven thousand people on course and to Paul Scully and his team at Bendigo. They're going to do a terrific job. Still some premium experiences available in a few of the marquees. So if you're looking for tickets and to head out to Bendigo next Wednesday, it's always a cracker. And there's still
Speaker 2tickets available, but you've got to get in quick.
Speaker 12You do, yeah. So you just head to the Country Racing website and you'll find Bendigo Jockey Club from there. Same with the range of meetings this weekend. There's a cracker day at Yarra Valley tomorrow as well, where it's Oktoberfest themed, Gareth. Don't know if you've been to Oktoberfest before. I have, actually.
Speaker 2Lucky to be alive still.
Speaker 12Absolutely. It was fun. Yeah, I bet. But no, they'll be dressed up in their lederhosen and dirndls and it's a ripper day at Yarra Valley. But plenty of country racing action at this time of year as we lead into the big Melbourne Cup.
Speaker 2And well done to MOWI as well, last week. They raised, what, $50,000? They did.
Speaker 12So they held a charity fundraiser for the Gippsland Cancer Centre, which is all in the name of the La Trobe Regional Health Hospital. They raised $50,000. So a terrific effort from everyone involved at the club and the community. Really got behind the fundraising efforts and everyone was dressed in pink and they're going great guns at the moment, MOWI. They're doing really good things and yeah, well done to everyone involved there.
Speaker 2I just told Scotty Whiteman that you're required here all day, so you can stay for a couple of beers.
Speaker 12We certainly are required all day, so Scotty, if you are listening, I'll see you on Monday. But no, good luck today. It's a crack of the Ascot Vale and yeah, may everyone back a winner this weekend. Thanks for coming in, Josh. Good on you, Jake.
Speaker 2There's Josh McGuinness there. Josh from Horsham joins us now. Mate, we need some winners. Especially today, they tell me, for Ladies Day at Ballarat.
Speaker 13Oh, what a day it's going to be over here.
Speaker 2Yeah. Yeah, Simon Morris is looking after, what, 250 ladies, so what could go wrong?
Speaker 13What could go wrong? I did tell him he should just stay in the committee room today, but no, I think he'd be up there looking after every single one of them, to be fair.
Speaker 2Where do we start with your plays?
Speaker 13No, we're going to have one today, but we're going in the last. We're going to go race nine, number one, Princess Toro, who I think we can back on an each-way basis here. We're first up on the back of a Matoa jump-out win. Now, there's been a host of winners come out of that Matoa jump-out morning. I'm hoping we've found the next one here. She's back in grade from where she's been last prep. Gets the red-hot apprentice Shayla in girls, in glee. I'm not sure how to say it. Claiming on her back today. Look, we can back her each way for about $9 or $10. Should get a nice run parked just behind the speed and can have the last shot
Speaker 2at them. Alright then, what else have you got for us this weekend?
Speaker 13Let's take a double at St. Arnold's tomorrow, one of the great race days. We're going to start early in the day. We're going to go race two, number 10, Gert by Sea. Now, we can't really promise a price about this one, but it does look like a bit of an early anchor if you like to play your multis. It was a really nice run on debut with Kilmore. It was runner-up behind Sky Dream, who was fitter. It was beaten around three lengths, but left an even bigger gap back to the rest of the field. It comes here fitter. Extra 100 metres is ideal. I think this is our banker for the day. Race two, number 10, Gert by Sea. And then we're going to roll it into race three, number nine, Foxfire, who's first up since May. Was good in her first prep, her first two runs especially. Runner-up on debut. Now, finished a length ahead of Autumn Charm there. That runner won a two-year-old race at Flemington soon after, and then was only beaten three lengths in the side produce in Brisbane. I'm going to suggest that form stacks up in a St. Arnold maiden, and I think Yendal can get the job done for us. Race three, number nine, Foxfire at St. Arnold.
Speaker 2Beautiful. Anything else?
Speaker 13Just one at sale when we're pulling the lamb off the weather on Sunday. Race eight, number eight, Belle Mezian. This is the heat of that NCC, the Melbourne Cup Carnival Series. Another first-up runner. Really, really very, very good debut preparation this horse. Mixed in strong company. A recent morning can jump out to guess he's returning to Ricker Gordy. Gets every chance from gate four, and I think the team will be looking to book their spot in the final at Flemington on Oaks Day. Looks very, very hard to beat. Race eight, number eight, at sale.
Speaker 2So race nine, number one today at Ballarat. Race two, number ten. Race three, number nine, at Sonata tomorrow. And race eight, number eight, at sale on Sunday. You go and dominate, Josh. We appreciate your time as always.
Speaker 13What a wonderful weekend. Good on you, G-Man.
Speaker 2There's Josh from Horsham. Josh McGinnis joining us from CRV. We'll take a break. Jane Iver with her best across the weekend in New Zealand next here on Giddy Up. What a place it is. They're starting to roll up a little early, too, for the Giddy Up Cox Plate Eve luncheon. But it's time to find some winners in New Zealand this weekend. Wake up with New Zealand Racing and kick your day off with a Kiwi bet. What's gambling really costing you for free and confidential support? Visit gamblinghelponline.org.au. Hello to you, Jane Iver. Yeah, good morning to you. Sounds like you're at a
Speaker 14function. Not exactly, no. But I am in a busy spot right now. Oh, there you go. It sounds like what you're doing is far more interesting. Alright then,
Speaker 2Jane. How do we make some money this weekend in New Zealand? We're at Rickerton and, of course,
Speaker 14Ellerslie. Yeah, well, Rickerton is the feature meeting in terms of a black type. There's a really nice sprint and there's the Watercree Steaks, which obviously is another lead-in for the three-year-olds into the Stars and the 2000 Giddies. But I'm actually having all of my bets at Ellerslie. I think it's an incredible meeting. There's some really nice horses kicking off in race three, which is a three-year-old over the 1,400 done with the eight-grocer deal. She's produced a couple of really good runs this preparation, comes into the third up and at her peak. When you look at the horses that she's finished behind, it's the best form. Astoria, who subsequently went on and finished second in the Hawks' back innings behind Old Fashioned, then won the group two soliloquy stakes last weekend. And, of course, System of Plains, the other horse that she's been beaten by, who's an unbeaten colt and the favourite for the 2000 Giddies. So, I think it's the nicest field she's faced in terms of she stands out and it goes tough and she's drawn well and she's very tactically versatile. So, Grocer's Girl in race number three.
Speaker 2So, race three, number eight, Grocer's Girl. What else have you got for us, Jane?
Speaker 14Well, there's a horse going round at very short odds that you can run through your multis and that's race five, the open 1,200, a mare called Drops of God. I think that, on potential, she could just be the best horse in New Zealand in time. She's had three wins from four career outings and she picked up a win at stakes level at the end of last preparation and she beat horses that have gone on and won. So, there's seven virtual winners that have come out of that race and the runner-up, Platinum Ponty, and went on to be placed multiple times at stake level in Australia. So, I think, on potential, she could be one of the best horses in New Zealand this season, running through your multis and in race seven, which I think is the best race of the day, it's a rating 75 over the 1,400 metres. My numbers here are 6, 8, 5 and 9 and I would literally be putting them together as a trifecta or a quinella. There's some really nice horses going round in this. Askell went to a derby preparation, was really eye-catching first up and had an achievement who, you know, from Australia, had its first run over 1,200 metres last start in New Zealand, going to 14. That horse is going to travel much better and I think finish the race off and day one, the Opie Blossoms two from two on it. So, there's a number of horses that are going to run really good races in race number seven, 6, 8, 5 and 9.
Speaker 2So, 6, 8, 5 and 9. We can listen to you on Giddy Up on Saturday as well. Jane, you enjoy your day, but I'm looking forward to watching Drops of Gold Drops of God more closely tomorrow there in New Zealand with the wrap that you just gave that galloper. We appreciate your time as always, Jane.
Speaker 14Yep. I'll put an asterisk next to her name. You'll hear more about it.
Speaker 2We've done exactly that. Thanks for that. Wake up with New Zealand Racing. Kick off your day with a Kiwi bet. What's gambling really costing you? Speaker 15gareth how are you mate
Speaker 2good thank you mate what are we expecting um there tomorrow afternoon in adelaide
Speaker 15well it's a pretty competitive card here in adelaide obviously all the focus will be uh over there in melbourne with the cox blade and obviously in sydney but uh some really interesting uh runners at morpheville i think the best of the day is uh race two number two virtual illusion for the richard and chantelle jolly stable this horse was really good behind its stable mate bretta mall last start you'll see bretta mall over there at flemington tomorrow early on it's a really progressive horse but virtual illusion was really good late in that race he was tried in some good races during our carnival and draws the inside gate here jake toro to ride i think he's uh he can be pretty good at the inside gate pretty confident about his chances richard was quite bullish about him yesterday when we had him on the front runner podcast so i think he's the best he's short enough now at about a dollar 85 but that probably looks about his right price so that's race two number two and i thought there's some value a bit later on this horse trained by matt sayers who's a very good uh trainer out of murray bridge a horse called synthesized race six number seven she was very good winning over the mile of balaclava last start she gets to 1800 meters tomorrow and um she was a philly she was riding some good three-year-old races during our carnival earlier in the year but matt's always had the sort of impression that she'll uh you know come in her own at about 1800 to 2000 meters and she gets to that 1800 meter trip from a good gate with top panel so you can get about eight dollars synthesized each way so i was happy to be playing her race six number seven
Speaker 2yeah beautiful anything else for us mate oh well if you
Speaker 15want one earlier today gauler cup day today obviously it's a good day at twilight uh meeting out at gauler i thought the best was another matt sayers horse actually race for uh number four vandeross this horse was narrowly been behind a pretty smart horse in your worst nightmare uh last start at murray bridge i think it can bounce back and in the cup it's a really great addition to the gauler cup it's a big field but i think there's two horses at about ten dollars i'm happy to be backing the first of them's bootlegger number three this horse comes through the uh balaclava murray bridge cups forget it went around at balaclava but it's murray bridge cup one was run was very good and i think uh from that middle gate he'll be over right in the mix there's a few fancy rivals drawn out of him he's a ten dollar chance at the moment bootlegger and i reckon each way he's worth a little spec and in that same race i'm going to also back chicago storm the top way he won this race a couple of years ago jason old will ride him and um look he's always an improver second up he jumps up from the 1200 to the 15 here at gauler and i reckon he'll run well so a bit of a two-bet play in the cup for me bootlegger and chicago storm all right then
Speaker 2that's the one in the three there it's going to be a big day gauler as well looking forward to it you can watch all the action on racing.com and of course listen to it on rsm and sen track good on you lincoln thanks for that
Speaker 15have a good weekend mate

Speaker 16morning to you g hall morning to terry as well
Speaker 2terry layton hello
Speaker 16to you
Speaker 17good morning gareth pete listeners how we doing on this uh overcast friday
Speaker 2we're so excited because it's a great weekend of racing at ascot i can't wait for the belgravia stakes 1200 meters for the three-year-olds race nine beaties at 290 with bet 365 achy breaky 750 the horse that i reckon can win the guineas god speed at 850 he's a machino nine big red zoom the max simmons winner at nine boy crush 10 and then big prizes for the rest here i'll start off with you terry who wins the belgravia
Speaker 17who wins the belgravia oh yeah you're right it's it's a cracker um obviously we're subbing out of fire giddy coals who's going to the the prelude next week and i feel like we had in the other big class um top weight in bt um no there's there's there is literally 10 chances in this but my market was pretty cleared out with two horses i was about three dollars bt um thought the trials were great love the the patience to skip the thousand meters and come straight to the 1200 here i think it maps okay for him as well we've seen ascot this year and we've seen him in the year it's almost better to be off speed than on speed it's been yeah incredible um i really like elita earlier in the program so i'm hoping uh we can buck that trend then but uh i don't think the gate's an issue but the other runner that i've got very strong in my market is uh it's horse number 11 achy breaky um i it's worth noting the most recent trial the shades were on and they weren't on for the first trial but i think they're obviously just trying to try and get um her to settle over further i i guess is um or it was a feedback from the jock potentially but i think it's worth noting that she's done a great job and she's done a really good job with that i thought she deserved second favorite um her wins last brett were wild when she did all the work and still had a big kick late and um and won really well she's tried like she's come back even better and another yard that's been patient mr max simmons got another hit out into him um at the trials and i think you could easily justify backing her each way at
Speaker 2seven dollars fifty all right then what
Speaker 16about you pete not too dissimilar to be fair gareth um i've also found achy breaky and and really off that last trial um i think you could easily justify backing her each way at seven dollars fifty all right then what about you pete not too dissimilar to be fair gareth um i've also found achy breaky and and really off that last trial how could you not i think that was just such an obvious flashing light in her form last prep and unbeaten is really good um but i also have to have something on boy crush i was so taken with this horse being able to see him in the flesh and i thought his run was great it was a complete mess he was bumping around things all over the place still loomed to win and was just held off late by big red zoom and there's just a few barrier switches here um obviously big red zoom i'm not sure what the tactics are going to be there but they might have to work a little bit earlier to cross a few of these and they're going back going back okay yeah so that's uh all of a sudden a little bit more of an interesting speed map so look i think boy crush from four maps really well and i think i could break you from two they should be the ones that are just behind the pace and ready to strike so i'll be backing both of those runners but uh as terry said you probably back about 10 of these and be justified in
Speaker 2doing so hey am i on the um am i on the money here um with uh godspeed for guinness i'm terry the son of playing god
Speaker 17yeah 100 the aesthetics of uh the two performances last preparation were uh were brilliant um i love the way he showed gate speed in the second run from the wide drawer and they sort of just said let's take luck out of the equation for what we think is the best horse and i love when a horse does a bit of work to lead and then when he's challenged and horses come at him and obviously it's not the same quality of horse as we see here um but he says nah not interested and i'm pretty sure clinton even use a stick that day so um yeah 100 he can win the guineas gareth but there are so many good guinea sources heading in that direction i well i think roger's head of the market at the moment i don't know if he'd be the head of head of my market personally i think he was a nice winner the other day but he got the perfect race shape and everything i think there might be more class this might come back to bite me but i think there might be more class in this race heading towards that race your bts uh your god speeds um but both both races the placid arc and the guineas which way a lot of these go i feel like only a few of them have made their 100 decision up now um they're going to be cracking uh three-year-old class i just don't think we've had a better more exciting three-year-old season to look forward to i
Speaker 2can't believe paulie sebastian you missed your opportunity there with roger um anyway we'll move on and it's going to give them a good roger ring first up yes and here comes roger he's the best three-year-old in w.a don't worry about that um forget about oh no i can't basset hound um the son of wood and bassett he goes around once again i'm i'm i'm so pleased that finally terry and peter believe is in basset hound Welcome to the train, Terry.
Speaker 17I'm a bit confused. I thought Basset Hand was the one in the orange colours. That was Divine Belief. I'm really confused by their last runs. If you watch them, Divine Belief was the better run, wasn't it, Peter?
Speaker 16Well, that's the hard part of doing the form going forward, was Divine Belief that they found a new trick to that horse's form that she's never been able to go back before and do anything, and suddenly she has. Or does that just mean the rest of that race is no good? I don't know. I don't know. It was the best of the day figure from Basset Hand, so I'm so confused by that race now going forward. Look, I'm not taking $1.75 for Basset Hand second up. I've got basically him going as well as he has first up, and perhaps he just might be a little bit flat here second up. Look, I think overall the race is a little bit more potential guts in the speed up front as well. Now you see me, Norwich, I mean, they could really just set the track on fire early. So, look, we'll see what sort of fitness levels he's at second up, but. The grand final's still to come. I wouldn't be getting too excited about $1.75 here, Jack.
Speaker 2All right, then. I'm just excited whenever he's racing. Basset Hand, he's the new cult hero of WA racing. Basset Hand and Mitchell Pateman, he can't do anything wrong at the moment. So looking forward to seeing what he can do in race number seven. What about your best bets, Pete, on this program there tomorrow?
Speaker 16Best bets? I must say I don't actually have a best on this card. I actually found a lot of the favourites are about the right price. I didn't want to get into it. I don't want to get involved in too many of those. The horse that I will be having something on later in the day is Platinum Shot. That's my best roughy for you, G. Race 10, number seven, Platinum Shot. Love the map on paper. Don't think there's a whole heap of speed, and that mare was much better suited leading there last time out. On an Ascot deck, as Terry said, is probably actually suiting horses off pace at the moment. So that's why I'll be playing in the last race, 10, number seven, Platinum Shot.
Speaker 2Can't believe we're not backing Nicky Motor again, Pete.
Speaker 16Oh, no, no, no. Never wanted Ascot. This is a different track all of a sudden.
Speaker 2That's a good point. The best tip I got all week from the trainers in WA is So Seagod. Race two, number six for Team Casey, around 260 with bet 365. Terry Leighton, your best?
Speaker 17Race number four, I just think that Classic Impact leads and wins. I think I'm too excited about this race. Whenever I get too excited about one, they tend to end pretty poorly. But Classic Impact was like 30 to sixes last start. It was wonderful. The money was wild. I didn't see it coming. Sat off the track in a race. They went, I think it was six, seven, eight lengths quicker than Bench to the turn and were still there late. They gave streamlined the card into it. It was such a big run. It was a better run than streamlined. And now there is a race with no speed at his pet trip of the 1,800 metres. And because they go from the Natika Riordan claim to the Jefferson Sang claim, they get an extra one and a half kilos because of her. Sorry, her. Because of her. Her minimum riding weight being a kilo and a half more. So basically, it's three and a half kilos on streamlined, a far better map. And we're going to be leading throughout. This is the horse that pushed Lillian last prep when Lillian was flying. I just think it should be favourite. We're getting north of four bucks. So pretty keen Classic Impact race number four. As I said, in race number nine, Beaty and Aikibraki, either Aikibraki each way or back Aikibraki save Beaty at around 750. And Mitchie Pateman's first starter. I was actually going to ask Pete about this. He probably has a bit better. It's New Zealand form, I guess. So maybe not. It might be you, Jay. But Havocrack, the trial of Havocrack was incredible in race number eight. And I think there's a few knocks on a lot of the other favourites. And this Fine Star failed first up. Morning Thunder, I think, is over and you could save on it. But there's a few others that I think are going to struggle. And it just trialled like a horse. It's going to be winning at its first start in WA. So at five, six bucks, I just thought that was a huge price. So there's three for you. We need one winner for a good day. What do you think, Pete, there of that trial?
Speaker 16I just picked the. The median number there that I got from the Kiwi data, Jay. But if I went really aggressive, I can have Havocrack marked about $3.
Speaker 2So we'll see.
Speaker 16It's difficult to line up, isn't it? That was a super trial, as Kerry said.
Speaker 2Yeah. Cosmic Crusader in a Cox Plate, Terry. What's the track rating going to be? Who knows? Probably a good four.
Speaker 17No, no, then.
Speaker 2All right, then.
Speaker 17Bob's swim. Back Bob's when it's wet.
Speaker 16Pete? Yeah, I'm of the same opinion. That early forecast in the week was pretty enticing there for Cosmic Crusader. And suddenly it's all dried up and we could be on a good three, firm two. So, yeah, suddenly I'm actually gravitating towards Warwoven, which I don't think I'd ever say. But there we are. Warwoven and I think Aleana is probably the best of, you know, the logical Chris Waller peak sort of fits that profile really well. So they're the two I'm looking at there for the Cox Plate.
Speaker 2All right, boys. Have a wonderful weekend. Enjoy tomorrow. We'll catch up with you next week. Cheers, Gareth. There's Terry Leighton and Peter Anthonis. Scotty Amor, the Jump Out King extraordinaire, will join me next. They're starting to arrive here for our big Cox Plate Eve Giddy Up lunch. And so looking forward to that. But Scotty Amor, the Jump Out King extraordinaire, joins us on this Friday. Hello to you, Scotty boy. Hiya, Gareth. How are you, mate? Mate, I'm excited. What a time of the year. Where do we start with your best bets on a Saturday?
Speaker 18We'll go to Ramwick first off. I like race five. Why so hard? He was very, very good first up in my Roman concert. So I think he will lap up the mile. And I think he could be a very, very good horse. And he's my best bet for tomorrow.
Speaker 2So why so hard there at Ramwick? Looking forward to seeing what he can do. What else do you like, mate?
Speaker 18Flemington, race four, Cheyenne. Look, she's been a bit disappointing since they paid $5.6 million for her. But I was encouraged with her recent jump out. I thought her last start was a lot better. And it looks on paper. I think she'll love the straight. Jay Mack on. I think she'll run a great race tomorrow.
Speaker 2All right, beautiful. Cheyenne down the straight. Mark Hunter taking her on. But the jump out king extraordinaire says, I'll back her in. The filly in the cool more colours for the archipels. And you've got another one for us, mate?
Speaker 18Yeah, we'll go to Ellerslie, race five. I'm all in. Drops of God is in there. And all things being equal, she will win. But she's first. First up, this isn't her grand final. And he's had a run back, second up. And he was very, very good winning at Ellerslie over 1,200 on New Zealand Oaks Day in February. If he runs up to that form and if there's any chinks in her armour, he will be the horse that will beat her. And I think he's a great each way play.
Speaker 2Beautiful. Just repeat the number there.
Speaker 18Ellerslie, race five. I'm all in. I think he's number. Number three, full board.
Speaker 2Yes, yes. I'm all in. I tell you what. We're all in with you, brother. I'm just having a look at it now. Because we just had Jane Ivel on. She says Drops of God is the best horse in New Zealand, nearly. And we're going to take her on. I'm all in. 7.50 each way all day for the Martian-Kennedy combination. What happens when we back your horses, Scotty boy?
Speaker 18When you back off the king, you wear all the black. You wear all the black. You keep on dominating, brother. Thanks, mate. Thanks, Gav. Hey, mate. I hope you have a great lunch. It sounds awesome.
Speaker 2You're awesome. We'll have to get you here next year, brother. We'll fly you in.
Speaker 18Yeah, I think I'll put it on my list. It sounds like it's going to be a great afternoon there.
Speaker 2Yeah, it is, brother. Thanks for that. There's Scotty Amor, the jump out king extraordinaire. Thanks to NT Thoroughbred Racing. It's simply the best racing entertainment in the territory. Andrew O'Toole joins us. G'day, Toolman. G'day, Gareth. Fanny Bay tomorrow, mate. How did we back a winner there?
Speaker 19Yeah, pretty big little card, too. Two weeks in a row to coincide with the big meetings down south. Race two, my best of the day, number one order online. He does a few things wrong, but if he does everything right tomorrow with Jarrett Todd aboard for Gary Clark, I think he'll be winning. He's down in grade from his last start second to Bonshaw back, and I just think he gets his chance tomorrow. So race two, number one order online. If we go to race four, the last start winner, number three, debating, I think can go back-to-back for Jess Booth and Ella Clark. That combination's having a really good run. They won a race last week with Struck Gold. Jess had a double on the day. So race four, number three, debating. And in the last, the mile, for the 0-70 Gallipers, I thought number six, Villa 79, should be improved by his last start third to Hennessy Lad. Paul Shires, he rode a treble last week here in Darwin. He takes the mount for Chloe Baxter. Competitive race for the last, but I think number six, Villa 79, should be improved by his last start third to Hennessy Lad. Villa 79, the one to beat.
Speaker 2So number six in the last, and we'll kick off with race two, number one. Hopefully we can make some cash there tomorrow at Darwin.
Speaker 19Let's hope so, mate. Great day. Be interested in the Cox Plate at Flemington, of course, as everybody will be. Who are you tipping, mate?
Speaker 2Who are you tipping in the Cox Plate?
Speaker 19I'm a Birdman man. I'm going Birdman.
Speaker 2Well, there you go. You're the first one that's tipped as Birdman today, so we wish you the best of luck, Andrew.
Speaker 19Thanks very much, Gareth. I'll need it.
Speaker 2He was the forgotten horse until you came along. Good on you, mate. Thanks for that.
Speaker 6Thanks, mate. Cheers.
Speaker 2There's Andrew O'Toole. It's 24 minutes past 11. Don't forget races one, two and three on Cox Plate Day at Flemington. If your runner doesn't win, you'll receive a bonus bet back. For free and confidential support, visit GamblingHelpOnline.org.au We are live for a special Giddyup at the famous Ascot Vale Hotel. It's the best racing pub in the northwest of Melbourne. It's a big day today because we've got the Cox Plate Eve Giddyup Lunch and we've got some big name guests. AFL stars, some of the biggest names in the racing game. Looking forward to and catching up with a few of the Giddyup listeners as well. And we're going to do that all after 12 o'clock. But a few of the special guests have rocked up early for us here on Giddyup. So Trent Mason held up and Jack Jenkins will join me straight after this.
Speaker 1This is Giddyup with Gareth Hall.
Speaker 2Welcome back to Giddyup. Gareth Hall with you live from the Ascot Vale Hotel. It's going to be, I think it's a sellout now. So, um, if you're thinking about turning up, um, I told a few people that they could just rock up, but I don't know if they can fit in now. But anyway, we'll try our best. Trent Mason held up from racing.com. He's part of the Giddyup family. Joins me here. And it's been a busy morning once again with racing news, as you would expect Trent at this time of the year. Hello to you,
Speaker 20mate. Morning G. Happy Cox Plate Eve to everyone who celebrates. Hopefully that's plenty. I'm sure there's plenty behind us who are ready to rip into Cox Plate Eve. What a day it is. Melbourne's turned on the weather. Hopefully it stays like this. I heard you're, varying weather reports this morning.
Speaker 2Yeah. Well, we wanted to get some clarity and we just confused everyone a little bit more. I would imagine, but there's going to be rain at some stage tomorrow.
Speaker 20It doesn't sound like it's going to be, even if we get the worst side, it doesn't sound like it's going to be too significant.
Speaker 2Plenty of news happening. Joseph O'Brien is, um, we had Kevin Blake on the show yesterday. I, I mean, sometimes you get into difficult situations where you know things, but you don't want to, you know, upset the apple cart. It's, it's, it's, and sometimes in this game, like if, if they don't want it to reveal, if they don't want to reveal it, then, um, there's no point really. But, um, you're a man that's just dug a little bit deeper and been able to find the jocks that will be representing Joseph O'Brien.
Speaker 20Well, most of his horses anyway. So Wayne Lorden, I don't think this will surprise many, will ride Goody Two Shoes, the runner up from last year. Ryan Moore on Sons and Lovers. Craig Williams, which we already knew is on your horse, James J. Braddock. Uh, you would have been instrumental in that booking, no doubt. And Dylan Brown McMoneagle on Defiantly. He rode him to victory in the Kyrgyzstan in Deauville.
Speaker 2So Joseph O'Brien, when he picks his jockeys, he, he obviously, um, wants to pick the jockeys that he thinks will suit his horses. And he likes to, um, have jockeys that understand the athletes that they will be riding. So Defiantly, um, Dylan's an aggressive rider and has rated his horse to perfection. I think Australian Bloodstock, desperately wanted him. Yep. And I think a few of the, like he is Joseph O'Brien's number one rider. So he would nearly get the choice, I would imagine. Yep. Um, McDonald's not there. Uh, we all, you're like, you've got some news on that.
Speaker 20Yeah. So I heard you say this morning that don't be surprised, or there's a small chance, I'm paraphrasing here, that Aliana might run in the Melbourne Cup. I think that door is still slightly ajar.
Speaker 2Just a little bit.
Speaker 20Very, very slightly. So don't take me out of context here. I don't want to be quoted saying, Ali, Aliana's running in the Melbourne Cup. I would say it's very unlikely, but as you said, there is a scenario where if something happened on Saturday, then they change their mind and go to the Melbourne Cup. She's still paid up. So obviously they have that option. Um, so, and then obviously, hence James McDonald hasn't been confirmed on anything as yet. And to my knowledge,
Speaker 2people got stuck into me when I reveal what I thought might happen. Now I'm just reporting what I'm just, sometimes when you're doing your job, you can just report what you, what you hear and what you hear from the major players. Chris Wall all along has said that she's got too much weight, 58 and his preference would be not to go down that Melbourne Cup trail. Um, he would rather keep her at weight for age and go to a Cox plate and then into a champion stakes. That would be his plan, but that was probably his plan with very elegant back in the year that she won the Melbourne Cup. Um, and she was okay in a Cox plate. And that was the reason why he decided to go to the Melbourne Cup after that. And so he's, and with Chris Waller, um, he gets asked questions all the time and he gets put into difficult spots. Like Orton boy is the perfect example. He thought he was coming to the Cox plate and then he watched his alibi go around in that might and power. He talked to his team once again, and then they changed plans. Now that's, that's okay. It doesn't help us if you backed Orton boy for the Cox plate, but he's, he said all along that it's unlikely that she would go to a Melbourne Cup, but he's always kept that door open. He hasn't completely closed. It's so, and they,
Speaker 20and that's why they paid up at the last round of acceptances. Uh, and you're right. It's a similar position to us. Like we, we can only pass on the information that we get told. Yeah. Um, and a lot of people, I've had people come at me saying, you told me this horse is running in the Cox plate and now it's not there. Well, people change their mind and Chris Waller is entitled to do that. Circumstances change. I'm sure he had every intention of running Orton boy in the Cox plate. And then she's alibi gets rolled or whatever the circumstances are that he makes that decision to change his mind. And he's entitled to do that. He doesn't owe it to the part. He's got to look after the interests of the horse and that ownership group who's paying for the horse. Chris is very good at being transparent and putting media releases out when horses are going for a spell or that sort of thing. So, um, as I said, we can only report what we know.
Speaker 2And I'd be interesting, like McDonald's, probably he would have talked to Chris Waller and Waller would have told him what his plans are. And then obviously James is going to try and get another ride. If Eliana doesn't go to the Melbourne cup, Joseph O'Brien, would be looking for the best possible jocks. He would have given McDonald a call, I would imagine. And James has probably told him like, I'll probably got to ride Eliana, but she's not going to go there. It's most likely. I'd love to ride for you, Joseph. And Joseph said, well, you can have probably trust your instinct. I would imagine.
Speaker 20I'd love to be able to tell everyone who James McDonald is riding right here and now, but I can't, but we'll know tomorrow. Well, he doesn't know.
Speaker 2He would have announced it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 20We'll know soon enough. And it'll be a good, good horse. Yeah.
Speaker 2What else have you got for us?
Speaker 20Yeah. So Jimmy star, I believe, and I think you said Aussie might be here today. So we'll try and confirm that with the great man later on. But my mail is he will be staying in Sydney to defend his Russell boarding title.
Speaker 2There you go.
Speaker 20On Saturday week. Yeah. So we won that race impressively last year. I would imagine that rules him out of the champion sprint a week later, but maybe they look to back him up. I don't know. But my mail is he'll be in Sydney next week.
Speaker 2So, so, he doesn't come to Melbourne, but tempted and also Jolly star will be here. I reckon head wall will be here.
Speaker 20Yeah. So just on Jolly star, I spoke to Henry from Cambridge stud yesterday. She had a couple of days off at the farm as she usually does after a big run. And she was due to go back to Chris's stable today. Chris will assess her, make a decision. But Henry said it's looking positive for Flemington. So hopefully all going to plan. She'll be there. And what a great day. That's going to be tempted. I'll tell you what, that's going to be an absolute belt. I'll tell you what, we'll get a nice day.
Speaker 2How many will compete against autumn glow in that champion's mile? Oh, gee, it's, it's not going to be going home after this.
Speaker 20Yeah. After the Cox play. Um, yeah, it's, it's going to be a, a handful, isn't it? I would think.
Speaker 2Yeah. The big story coming out of tomorrow regarding the Melbourne cup is the Joseph O'Brien train Gallop. Uh, that, um, yeah, Kisly are that is, um, like on the verge of gaining a start. And the O'Brien camp told us yesterday, or Kevin Blake, that they would prefer to go straight into the Melbourne cup. That's when they think that he races best. Um, they don't have that luxury. Don't you think he gets a start?
Speaker 20Oh, you'd be,
Speaker 2I thought he was in nearly when I had a look at it.
Speaker 20You'd be rolling the dice. It'd be a big call.
Speaker 250, 50. Yeah.
Speaker 20I think they've got to run. So these are,
Speaker 2you think that, yeah, that's interesting.
Speaker 20These are the horses in the Moonee Valley gold cup tomorrow that need, that are outside the current 24 that probably need to, to win. Uh, so Juji Kibo, future history, Kisly are Deacon pinhole, Valiant King, Torrens, you know, King Pedro and Kings Valley, uh, man's a blue Jenny of a moves and Ethel Wolf. So there's quite a few. So it'll be, uh, handlebars down in that race tomorrow. They will be leaving no stone unturned, trying to get, uh, win their way in. It's the last roll of dice to get into the Melbourne cup.
Speaker 2So, um, for this year's cup, like Kisly is probably on the 30. I think he's 32nd at the moment. Um, you've got your freighties. Is it like, I think it's hard to tell.
Speaker 20Yeah. There's, there's one royal supremacy. It won't be going. Royal supremacy. Do they push on with him? I believe Vauban is going to the Melbourne cup. He is. Yep. That's locked in. Yep. Vauban's going to the Melbourne cup. Treasure of the moment dropped out yesterday. Yeah. She's gone for a spell. So Mr. Brightside and, uh, treasure of the moment have both gone to the paddock.
Speaker 2Yeah. So Vauban will run strictly business.
Speaker 20I don't know. You know, she's not going well, but she's got a ticket into the Melbourne cup.
Speaker 2Royal supremacy. question mark wine docks See, I don't think it's going. I don't know. Asterix, question mark. Question mark. One smooth operator can't keep up in a Geelong Cup, so hang.
Speaker 20That's the thing. You look at it.
Speaker 2And you're afraid he was beaten a long way.
Speaker 20Yeah. You look at some of these horses and think, well, they're not going to be competitive in a Melbourne Cup. Why would they run? But it's the Melbourne Cup. And this is the race where particularly owners that haven't had a run in a Melbourne Cup, they want to have a runner in a Melbourne Cup. And if they've won their way in, they're entitled to do so. So for those that say, oh, this thing's going to be 150 to 1, it's going to be a roadblock and all that sort of stuff, they've gone through the process and won their way. They're right to run in a Melbourne Cup. So they're entitled to do that.
Speaker 2And if you own Kisley, it's a difficult decision because I've got him 50-50. He probably, they should be on the phone now ringing up a few people to see what one smooth operator and your phrases and those type of horses. If they come out, he probably gets in.
Speaker 20Well, similar situation with So You Are, I think. They've scratched. They've scratched. So they're hoping that they'll get in. Correct. And they might, but they might not as well. So it's a big call to make, isn't it?
Speaker 2Kisley will win, I reckon, the Moonee Valley Cup if he goes there tomorrow. He's got the defiantly form. And I thought the O'Brien runners run really well there behind Point of Law. I think Ethan Brown's been booked for Point of Law. Right. Yeah, I reckon that will be the case, yeah. Take that to the bank. Does Ozzy know that? Yeah, he does. I think he does. I think that there's a few jocks. Like Damien Lane hasn't got a ride yet.
Speaker 20Yeah, so he was Wyndark C. Caulfield, but only committed to Caulfield. So, yeah, he's up for grabs. Yeah, he's up for grabs.
Speaker 2So, like, if Ali Arna goes to the Melbourne Cup, what happens there? Like, so, and then, I don't know if he's talking to Joseph Laney. There's a few. And I think Benny Mellon hasn't got a ride either.
Speaker 20Yeah, Jamie Mellon?
Speaker 2Yeah. So there's a few good jocks. Karen McAvoy? Yeah.
Speaker 20Who's won it before? That they can choose from.
Speaker 2Yep. Yeah, so Ethan Brown will ride Point of Law, I'm pretty sure. Okay. Okay. Brown is back. If I was a punting, if I was a betting man, that's what I would be going with. So Zerat becomes available. Correct. Okay. Yep. Anything else for us?
Speaker 20I'll give you a quick snapshot of the Coolmore field for Saturday week. We saw, did you see Paradoxium's trial this morning? No, I missed it. He absolutely brained them. Well, that's what he does. That's what he does. Yeah. Up the straight.
Speaker 2Whether he can get 1,200.
Speaker 20So natural fling in the next episode and a few others we're in behind him. So I've got at this stage confirmed runners are Ali Barber, Doubt Time, Mbube. Natural fling, Paradoxium, Pembrey, Sotono, Glow, Sequin, Steel, Will, St. Gothard, Stretton Ruler, the next episode and Under Focus.
Speaker 2That's a great field. It's a good field, isn't it? Yeah. And so Ethan Brown will go to Sydney to ride Jimmy Starr. I think so. And that means Mbube needs another rider.
Speaker 20Yeah, if that's the case. Okay. That's if Brownie does go to Sydney and follow Jimmy Starr.
Speaker 2Brownie's been popular of late, hasn't he? He's had to make some decisions.
Speaker 20He's got the runs on the board. He does. He's fine. He's main trainer and Kieran's gone. He's also running through. Rick Walls and Brownie's just slaying them as well.
Speaker 2Will Land Legend go to the Melbourne Cup?
Speaker 20I would. Yeah, good question. I don't know. I think it'll be a big call after tomorrow. I think we'll wait and see what happens after tomorrow. Angels Fury, Scratch from Cranbourne tonight. I know a lot of punters are keen on this filly and rightly so. She runs at Flemington tomorrow. That's about all the news I have for you. All right, then.
Speaker 2You're looking forward to this today, mate. We'll get you up with the latest racing news. Trent Mason, how do the men at they call the hour?
Speaker 20Looking forward to it, mate.
Speaker 2They need to be calling you more the hour, I reckon.
Speaker 20I'll tell you what. I had a few people at Geelong, particularly late in the day on Wednesday. Clearly, they were well lubricated and I was just walking back through the crowd. Is he out? Is he out? Is he out?
Speaker 2What did someone say to me the other day that, I think it was at racing.com, yeah, about the ice cream? What was that?
Speaker 20No, I'm not going to say that because I'm going to look like a tool.
Speaker 2No, I'm saying it on your behalf, but I forgot how you say it.
Speaker 20Oh. Someone said, the hour's been banned from the ice cream machine because no one else can get a scoop.
Speaker 2I like that. The hour's on fire. That's not me. No, you're seeing them beautifully. Love your work, mate. Are you having a punt this weekend?
Speaker 20Yes, I will. I'll be trying to recover after last weekend's bloodbath.
Speaker 2He's a Pope Catholic. Of course, I am.
Speaker 20Yeah. I'm on Aliana in the Cox Plate at the Overs. There you go. So, I'll be cheering hard for her. Yeah. And I'm pretty confident, too. Are you really?
Speaker 2Yeah. Even from gate 10?
Speaker 20Yeah. Got the best pilot on and she's going to be strong at the end. And they're going to go like last week's pay and she'll be steaming home at the end, I reckon. Good on you. Just warming up for two miles in about 10 days' time.
Speaker 2Yeah. Well, I can't wait for Chris Waller to announce that she's going to the Melbourne Cup. That'll be interesting to see the feedback that he'll get.
Speaker 20Oh, yeah. We'll get smashed, too.
Speaker 2Yeah. Good on you, mate. Thanks for that, Trent. Trent Mason out and joining us there from Racing.com. We'll take a break. Nick Schiltz, who runs this joint here at the Ascot Vale Hotel, and Tommy Liberatore, they'll be joining me here straight after this. Gareth Hall with you live at the Ascot Vale Hotel. That's the racing pub of the Northwest. What about this for a line-up? Nick Schiltz, who's become the biggest publican in Victoria at the moment. Yeah. He's been a big fan of the Ascot Vale Hotel. He started off with the Ascot Vale Hotel with a few of his mates. And now how many pubs, Schiltz, do you own?
Speaker 21We've got the Mona Castle Hotel over in Seddon. Yes. And we've got the Spotswood Hotel just over the bridge there in Spotty.
Speaker 2And one of your great supporters. I think he's an investor, isn't he?
Speaker 21Yeah, he is. The new venue manager as well. The new venue manager.
Speaker 2Tommy Liberatore. Liber, hello to you. Hello, hello. How are we? How is the new job going? So you've retired from football.
Speaker 22It's pretty tenuous, mate. He's not good. He's a pretty hard boss. Hard taskmaster. So
Speaker 2how is life after football?
Speaker 22It's good, mate. Yeah. No complaints. It's okay now because I'm still getting paid here and there. So it might be a bit different in the new year when I've got to actually get a real job.
Speaker 2Yeah. And so would you think about doing this, working with the boys?
Speaker 22Absolutely. I had a couple of hours the other night pouring pots and good reports I heard. Is that right?
Speaker 21Great reports. Yeah. Absolutely. You can do it again.
Speaker 2Yeah. So because you've been with the boys throughout their journey in a way as well. It obviously gave you a bit of an interest outside of the footy.
Speaker 22Yeah, I think so. It was probably mainly spearheaded by Nick. Nick had worked at the Prince Alfred's a long time ago and that sort of spurred on from there. And then a bit of experience in the railway under Jason Sneddon. And then, yeah, just joined in. So it's good.
Speaker 2And Shiltsy, it's a great story, mate. Obviously, you've got a group of mates, young, enthusiastic, but you've had a fair dink and crack. And you've done an extremely good job.
Speaker 21Yeah. Thank you, mate. Yeah. Appreciate it. We've had six years this year. And yeah, we're just excited to see where we can, you know, where we can take it to. We've got a great, great bunch of us together doing it, doing it well. So we've just got to keep it going, really.
Speaker 2And this is the racing pub of the Northwest because you're in the middle. You've got, what, Flemington? And then we've got Moonee Valley. And Moonee Valley will be up and running next year. But it's the place to come after Flemington, really, on Derby Day and Cox Plate Day.
Speaker 21Absolutely, yeah. Any before, during. Or after. It's, yeah, it's becoming the place to go to, which is great. And yeah, we're always thinking of new things and always, yeah, staying, trying to stay ahead of the kerbs. So it's, yeah, it's exciting.
Speaker 2Yeah. Libby, do you love the horse racing?
Speaker 22I do. I do. I've got a small share in our champion horse, Just Folk. Oh, have you? Yeah, yeah. Just a little one with the boys. Good champion. Yeah. Yeah, no, I'm keen to. Used to go to Cox Plate back in the day. So, yeah, no, keen for tomorrow. Run the Strait as well, haven't you? Yeah, we've managed to get a few Ks on the Strait. Have you really? Yeah, a few, just prepping for off-season time trials.
Speaker 2Pre-season? Is that where Bevo? Bevo doesn't mind a punt, does he? I reckon someone told me that.
Speaker 22I've heard he's a bit cheeky on the punt. Yeah, he's a cheeky.
Speaker 2Because he, someone told me that wherever he lives, I forget what part of Melbourne.
Speaker 22Yeah, he's in Bayside. Bayside. Used to ride his skateboard to the tab.
Speaker 2Yeah, he wears his skate, yeah, rides his skateboard to the tab. He's got his own hook for it, yeah, yeah. Whatever, whatever. He's, like, he's a different unit, isn't he, really?
Speaker 22Yeah, I think so. I mean, I can't really talk. But, yeah, no, he's on his own level.
Speaker 2And they tell me, obviously, Jack Jenkins is a proud Ascot Vale hotel ambassador, really. He's from Bacchus Marsh. And they tell me he might be getting Jack Butters for our lunch.
Speaker 21I think he's rolling in, isn't that right, Tom? That's the rumour.
Speaker 22That's the rumour, yeah. I've heard a couple of things, but, you know, as long as he puts a bit of money over the bar, then that's fine with us.
Speaker 2Exactly right. He didn't, did he force you to retire because all the money that he's going to cost is the bull dogs? Pretty much.
Speaker 22They said that. I remember getting home the day they picked him up and my house was repossessed. Yeah, yes. I think I stole my dog as well, so just to get him over the line.
Speaker 2Are you happy or are you sort of like, well, who do you think you are, really?
Speaker 22Well, initially, I was like, you know, you can't repossess my big two-bedroom mansion in Kingsville. Yeah, yeah. But, no, I'm pumped, mate. It's going to be great to watch. Yeah. Yeah. Do you think the doggies can go all the way next year? Oh, I can sort of say what I want now, can't I? Oh, yeah. Big headline takes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think we can for sure. Yep. Darcy's back and Bud is back and me out. We're a big chance.
Speaker 2And then they tell me, I've been told by a few today that you've already signed. We all thought that you couldn't go on, that you put everything into it and your body can't go on another yard, but you've just signed on for the cash somewhere.
Speaker 22Nah, I've signed on for the love of the game. Let's just be. Well, as Bud has taken half of my belongings, I've got to try and make money. now, so you've got to pay the bills. So where are you playing at? At Geelong Ammos. Okay, so it's amateur,
Speaker 2so you can't get paid.
Speaker 22No, it's just a name. So it's in the Ballerina League. So they still flick a few dineros out for me. Oh, do they? Sammy Lloyd's the player coach there. So I'll be able to hopefully get a few games and stay out of trouble.
Speaker 2Was it a diff? Like, how many offers did you get?
Speaker 22Not many because Sam sort of got to me straight away. I'm like, yeah, sweet. It wasn't too much of a deal. But Nick might be able to come down and play a few games soon if you get a bit of time from the bar.
Speaker 2Yeah, and the Warriors. Yeah, yeah. Tommy Papley, is he part of the Pups? Tommy Papley? Because he says he is.
Speaker 21Yeah, of course he is. He's a part of the furniture. I don't know where he is, but he's probably somewhere. No, he's in America somewhere.
Speaker 2Usually he does rock up, but he's somewhere in America. He has tried to make this place his home a few days.
Speaker 22Yeah, I know. He's done a good job at it, too. Might have had to kick him out once or twice.
Speaker 2So this afternoon we've got James McDonald that will be rocking up. Bjorn was meant to come, but he's pulled out late. So he's rocking up to Melbourne tomorrow. You know why? Because I think he got trashed last Friday at a luncheon. I don't know if he's, like, been told not to. He's cut out for it. Yeah, yeah. Trent Bussinen's coming. Yep. Jack Jenkins will be here. Yep. Libby's going to be talking. Yep. Kingy will be here as well. So looking forward to that. Because Kingy, David King, this is his local.
Speaker 21It is his local. He's got his table, which is perched up just behind me. The great man doesn't mind a handle. So I reckon he'll have a couple. Yeah, so he sits
Speaker 2in the corner. Yeah. Johnny Kang is here. Yep. Wonder when he's going to get his next job, really, in racing. They tell me he's, like, VRC's an option. The MRC, there's a few options there for the great man.
Speaker 21Tommy Prebble's rolling in, I think.
Speaker 2Tommy Prebble, yeah. Looking forward to catching up with Tommy. We might get him as well and have a chat. He's a regular here, Tommy Prebble.
Speaker 21Yeah, he is with all the boys. Yeah. Yeah, a great bunch of fellas, all the jocks. So, yeah, it's exciting that they've got a place to come to. And, yeah, we love it.
Speaker 2And, Libby, when you do these sportsman's days or nights, how do you go about it? Do you give too much away? Do you just, what can you say and what can't you say? Have you been caught out?
Speaker 22No, I've never been caught out. There's strictly no phones or cameras throughout the whole, any sort of event because that company obviously has to monopolise the videos and all that sort of stuff. Oh, okay, yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's sort of worked out in my favour. I don't prepare a hell of a lot. No. Yeah, it just probably helps. You can just sort of roll off. You can go from there. Yeah. So, I see on
Speaker 2my social media that you're going to Mildura, my old town. Yep. So, you've got a, you're doing the tour.
Speaker 22Yeah, they've looked after me, Vin and the boys, the entertainment boy, Vin. So, yeah, no, I'm looking forward to it. It should be good fun.
Speaker 2How many shots here would do a little bit with the AFL footballers and the athletes and that that finish up their careers? How long have they got? Like Campbell Brown, that window after their career. Yeah. Like Campbell Brown's still telling the same stories after football. 15 years.
Speaker 21Yeah, I think Tom's probably got enough stories to last another 50 years. Yeah, yeah. But probably the general, maybe, yeah, it's a couple of year window, I reckon. Yeah. What do you think?
Speaker 22I think you forget that you've still got time during these years to make new memories and stories. So, I've got from now until, look at my box this weekend. Okay. Yeah, so we might be able to run. You're not married yet? Nah, a few weeks after. Okay, there you go. I know, yeah, it took a while to hold me down. But, yeah, no, I'm sure we can wrangle up a few chapters this weekend. So, where are you getting married? In Toowoomba, actually. Okay. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, my partner's from up there, so. Okay, there you go.
Speaker 2So, she didn't know much about football before she met you? Well, she said she didn't, so.
Speaker 22No, yeah, yeah, yeah. I met her here, actually. Did you? Yeah, yeah, yeah. In the front bar. Yeah, the Ascot. We're dreams of mine. Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 2There's a few people that I know that have found love here at the Ascot Vale Hotel.
Speaker 22Yeah, I messaged her before and intended to meet me here, but, yeah. Did you really? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2I think our first or second date with Demi was here. I reckon. So, there you go. What other love stories do you know of, Schiltzie?
Speaker 21Oh, there's still a few to happen, so we'll see how we can. Schiltzie, the Republican and the love doctor.
Speaker 2Yeah. And so, this luncheon will be fun, mate. Can't wait. I think it is a sellout, or you can still rock up.
Speaker 21You still can rock up, but, yeah, we've sold the right amount of tickets we wanted to sell, and, yeah, we're looking forward to it. The beers are flowing already. There's probably already 50, 60 here, so oysters are out and some food's going, and champagne will be flowing.
Speaker 22And our beautiful Republican, Nick Schiltz, has got a new haircut. Yeah, he's looking good. Just for it.
Speaker 21There's a few messages after last Friday, so I thought I'd have to do something. Oh, yeah, all right then, Schiltzie.
Speaker 2I thought you wouldn't listen to anyone.
Speaker 21Yeah, yeah, we need to now.
Speaker 2Have you got a tip for the Cox Plate?
Speaker 21Cox Plate, yeah. Look, I think your line inventory man can go maybe each way bet.
Speaker 2What do you reckon? I reckon he's a great each way bet. I don't know if I've mozzed him or not because I've made him my play in our top four multi. We've bet 365. I think it's. What price have we got? I think it's still $16. It's about $27, so, yeah, that's into $14. Nearly 3,000 punters have gone on the weekend preview top four multi, so you have to be quick there, but I think it was $18 when we launched it. I reckon he'll run a mighty race. Yeah. Aliana. Aliana. Well, we'll ask J-Mac what he thinks. She's obviously the one to beat. Mark Hunter was really keen. Yep. He loves his pub too. He does, yeah. Oh, Mark Hunter, yeah.
Speaker 21Mark's a great man.
Speaker 2So, yeah, I think that. It's a wide-open Cox play. It's going to be a great race. I reckon they said they're only going to get 35,000 to 40,000. I thought they might get a few more, but it'll be interesting to see how many do turn up there to Flemington tomorrow. Have you got a tip for us, Libbo?
Speaker 22I don't mind our boy who's not attending today, Bajan Baker. Yeah, Bajan. Yeah, hopefully we'll owe Bajan. No, I don't mind a lot of three-year-olds in these sort of races, so I reckon, yeah, he can fly. Your old man loves the horses, doesn't he? He does, yeah. He's a very stingy punter. I think his max bet is $5. Is it really? Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's that guy that goes crazy and puts $10 on a $2 thing. Okay, yeah. And then, doesn't he.
Speaker 2Has he got a few horses?
Speaker 22He does, yeah. I think he's. I can't remember who, but he had a few, maybe a few years ago, but I think he might have thrown the towel in because he's losing too much money.
Speaker 2Yeah. It is a difficult game. Well, boys, thanks for having us. Bring it all on, so it'll officially start at 12 o'clock. We'll see you then. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. And you guys are open throughout the spring in your other pubs as well. Yes. Around this part of the world.
Speaker 21Absolutely. Yeah, the Mona's good to go, and the Spotswood is. Did you do renovations to the Spotswood? Currently doing some renos at the moment. Yeah. They should be finished around Cup Day, and then, yeah, all systems go for the rest of the year, so very exciting.
Speaker 2All right, beautiful, boys. Thanks for having us, mate. Thanks, Jamie. And we'll catch up with you in just a moment when the luncheon gets underway. I'm looking forward to a beer. It's been a bloody long morning, and it's very tempting when you can see it, like the sire in the Carlton Drafts, and I've been told under no circumstances, Gareth, are you allowed to have a beer before 12 o'clock? Correct. We're getting close, mate. Yeah, 12.01. Under four minutes, nearly there. Good on you, Libba. Good on you, Schultzy. I'll get Kanga to come over and say g'day. Johnny Kanga, we haven't had you on Giddy Up since you just set the microphone alight. Come on, Kanga. Are you allowed to come on? Kanga can join us for the last little bit. See you, mate. We haven't had you on for a while, Kanga, because you banned yourself, didn't you? Oh, here we go. G'day, Kanga. Because you know what? Last time you came on Giddy Up, you were the third-person champion off the bench. So where have you been? Just resting and enjoying my time. Okay. Is there any chance you'll come back into administration?
Speaker 23Well, if people want me to, I might later down the track. Of course they do, Kanga. But not at the moment. No. Not this week. How many people at Cox Plate tomorrow, you reckon? Oh, there'd be 40,000 to 45,000. You reckon? Yeah, I think so. I think the energy's there. It was at Geelong Cup with you and the crew on Wednesday. And there's a lot of people that haven't bought the tickets, but they're engaging with the club. So I think it's going to be a great day. Who are you tipping? Eliana. Eliana, yeah. Yep. Great preparation. Great trainer. Great jockey. Barry is a bit awkward. Not that I'm a tipster, of course. I'll leave that stuff to you. But to my eye, she's been going really well. All right, then. So it'll be great. Who's second? Sir Dilius. Sir Dilius. I'd love for Gay to win. Yeah, she hasn't won at Cox Plate.
Speaker 2No, I'd love for Gay to win. She loves you, doesn't she, Kanga? She does. Is it true that you've got your strapper's licence? Yes. So you've been working. Someone told me you're at Flemington with all of the. Every Friday morning. Every Friday morning doing the course.
Speaker 23Not dressed like this, though.
Speaker 2No. Have you got a job yet? I don't work. So you know with the stables at Daniel O'Brien or Team Constance? I just help.
Speaker 23Kanga just helps wherever he's needed. Would you ever become a trainer, Kanga? No. Sure? No. No. It's too hard. And I get all the love without all the expenses at the moment. So it's great going from tower to tower. How many luncheons are you going to?
Speaker 2Three today. All right. You're on the campaign trail, I reckon. Hey, Kanga, thanks for joining us. We've got to get going at 11.58.
Speaker 23And, yeah, we'll catch you at the races. And please, if anyone's. If anyone's watching here and needs some excitement, tomorrow's the day at the Cox Plate. It may never be done again. No. So it's just a one-off, potentially. Get to Flemington. Good on you, Kanga.
Speaker 2Great. Thanks for your company at the Ascot Vale Hotel. It's been a lot of fun. We'll do it all again on Monday. But for now, have a great day and good luck tomorrow.
