Giddy Up - Full Show (16/10)

Giddy Up with Gareth Hall previews one of the biggest race days of the year, headlined by the 150th running of the Caulfield Cup and The Everest at Randwick. The show opens with a track update from Caulfield's Sam, who confirms a Good 4 rating with warm, dry conditions expected for race day. Mark Hunter then joins for The Hunter's Edge, delivering a comprehensive preview of the entire Caulfield card. He analyses key races including the Ethereal Stakes, Thousand Guineas, Blue Sapphire Stakes, and the feature Caulfield Cup, where he tips Zaran as his top pick ahead of In-Fajar, Half Yours, and I Wish I Win. Attention shifts to Sydney, where Randwick remains a Heavy 8 following nearly 100mm of rain during the week. Weatherman Josh Holt provides an optimistic update, suggesting the track could improve to a Soft 7 with no significant rain expected on race day. He also identifies Spicy Martini as a value chance if conditions deteriorate further. The weekend preview team of Mickey Gannon, Dean Watling, and Zach Tunbridge assemble to launch the Top 4 Multi, featuring Cloudy Scout, Regal Ambition, Tempted, and Skyhook at $9.14. A major highlight is the Bet365 Mega Boost, offering $2 for Ka Ying Rising in The Everest, available only via the race page until 10am. The team also discusses a punter's $729,000 multi riding on Ka Ying Rising and debates whether to cash out.

Speaker 3gareth morning all of you if you got that
Speaker 2uber sorted gareth yeah i know it's been a disaster really this morning i don't know like in today's world i thought you could maybe try and find an uber for us in the cbd there in sydney but um anyway we we push on just a small setback on this friday morning but um are you enjoying sydney
Speaker 3mark well that's been beautiful standing at the front end quarter past seven waiting for that i can report the weather's okay there's no sign of rain this morning you could have hailed down a taxi well you i should have known gareth hall organization i should have known don't blame me
Speaker 2don't blame me you were getting the um you were getting the the notifications for the uber anyway i'm ready to go from the mrc to give us an update on this track um hello to you sam
Speaker 4hi boys i'm surprised you don't have a private driver up there
Speaker 2that's a very good point you make sam he's got a private drive everywhere he goes but anyway how are you going
Speaker 4mate uh yeah not too bad um the sun's out uh and uh looking forward to a good day tomorrow so i'm gonna upward so what's
Speaker 2the track conditions heading into tomorrow yeah so
Speaker 4track's currently a good four uh we put eight mil of irrigation on uh yesterday which is brings our seven day total to 38 mils so um certainly a good amount of moisture in it currently um we'll do another soil moisture inspection this afternoon and ascertain uh how much we need to put out to to try and retain that good for rating throughout the card for tomorrow so
Speaker 2you're going to try and stay good for throughout that that program how
Speaker 4difficult will that be uh we did it last year so we managed to say good for all all caulfield cup day there last year mind you is it's going to be a little bit warmer here tomorrow so um we'll use those parameters and um and do our best but uh yeah 25 degree day mind your only light wind so it really depends on how how long it's 25 degrees if that makes sense you know today's the top of 23 and it's still only nine degrees out there so if we get a nice uh cool morning like we've currently got gives us our best chance
Speaker 2geez it's a perfect day for racing mid-20s not a cloud in the sky and they're gonna pack out caulfield tomorrow
Speaker 4yeah yeah it's uh it's always a big day here for course or cut day and um obviously a nice warm up there on uh on call for guinea's day so um yeah really looking forward to a nice day and as you said really nice conditions with a north wind only 15 20 k's that north winds that headwind in the side straight but um only 15 to 20 so i don't think it will impact much and how is the
Speaker 2track holding up yeah
Speaker 4obviously we raced there on wednesday just gone at the 13 meter range and that was a really good day and it was a really good rail position and they use the majority of that outside of the track so um certainly that outside will be a no-go zone come saturday and rail back to the three um nice really uh really nice clean pattern of turf from that sort of three out to the 13 so yeah i imagine that's where most of the racing will be conducted come tomorrow
Speaker 2all right there mate you enjoy beer after the last day tomorrow
Speaker 4yeah one or a thousand
Speaker 2drink wise good on you sam well done mate there's there's sam the track there at caulfield and mark have you walked the track yet no before you flew to sydney
Speaker 3no i didn't you would think so they raced 13 on wednesday the fence was a no-go zone by the finish of the day so you think you've obviously got three meters to 13 meters is the only pet of grass they could use you would reckon there's still some wear and tear from saturday so my best guess would be that go sort of between the six meter mark and the 30 meter mark would be that
Speaker 2would be the grant they would need to have and then you know i don't think that's going to be a no-go zone so i don't think
Speaker 3that's going to be a no-go zone so i think that's going to be a no-go zone i don't think that's going to be a no-go zone but i think that's going to be a no-go zone i think that's going to be a no-go zone i think that's going to be a no-go zone i think that's going to be a no-go zone i think that's going to be a no-go zone i think that's going
Speaker 2to be a no-go zone i think that's going to be a no-go zone i think that's going to be a no-go zone i think that's going to be a no-go zone i think that's going to be a no-go zone i think that's going to be a no-go zone i think that's going to be a no-go zone i think that's going to be a no-go zone i think that's
Speaker 3going to be a no-go look it's drawn awkwardly and i don't know where it gets to i don't think it's got the speed to get across so i would imagine you have to go back and find a spot and that's not easy to find a spot so it will need luck i think it's no value i think it's a horse that will keep getting better as the races get longer so we'll go with valis to beat number five skewer your horse i think skewer's got a great chance ran well at flemington it was just entitled to drop out on that ground but kept going strongly through the line now the issue for skewer is on the outside gate their speed inside it i would imagine that's going to be a no-go zone i think that's going to be a no-go zone so it needs luck early if it gets that luck if it gets across and parks in front or outside leader i'd be happy to be on skewer third pick number six russian rock russian rock was terrific the other day at caulfield behind diameter and something's burning that's good form it's been ridden quietly by adam mccabe in two runs back craig williams takes over it's got barrier two i'm sure it'll be sent a lot more further forward here just got to cope with that that's a nice horse so not many that can't win i'll go two five six do you think skewer can get across well you've got seniority in one russian rock in two and aragog in three they're they're the three speed horses i think ethan will make a play for the top i'm hoping it's across because it's um i could have something on skewer i think it's crazy odds i could have something on it but you'll know you've played after about 300
Speaker 2meters do you reckon i go with him again with my weekend preview top four you didn't
Speaker 3listen last week you should have gone with grand lassie staggered into fourth
Speaker 2you went yeah no you told me to go you told me to go pikey's horse um we yeah anyway it was fifth um i might go skewer would you go skewer this week well i'll let you
Speaker 3know after 200
Speaker 2yes um so russian rock so gate two how do you think craig would do you think it would be in his best interest if he does settle closer oh
Speaker 3it'll settle closer you just don't want russian rock doing too much work you're happy to let yeah seniority and aragog go forward you don't want to see russian rock pushing up in the middle of them like you're just doing too much work going to two thousand for the first time so if russian rock comes out yes positive but aiming to sit right on the back of seniority that that will give russian rockets best chance of winning lapola
Speaker 2is an interesting one he was favorite for the superimposed where a few of these horses competed in he was dreadful like he just couldn't pick up his legs basically and that was on that heavy track so he's nearly the the first test case regarding that meeting going on to a firm track at caulfield this time around here mark yeah a
Speaker 3hundred percent like he was disgraceful there at flemington now you can blame the heavy tandy one on the soft seven before that he gets blinkers on for the first time so that worries me that's a little bit of desperation So you could forgive the last round of the heavy tent, but it's a fair forgive. I want to see the pilo turn its form around.
Speaker 2All right, then. So that's race number one, two, five, and six. But you might play school each way there at $12 with bet $3.65. The ethereal stakes, your horse, Miss Waititi. I think you got the $26 there the other day at Flemington. Now you're getting $2.90 for her tomorrow afternoon. Fringilla was very good. Ran time there to win at Geelong at $2.90. And then you go out to a horse like Quick Finish that's had a little bit of support at a price, but there's basically only two horses they want here tomorrow afternoon in the ethereal mark.
Speaker 3I like Vaughan O'Shea. It's Gareth here. This horse, you're banking on Nick Olive knowing his horse well. He's on the quick backup. Well, she's on the quick backup from the gliding stakes last week. Now, when it all remade in five starts ago, come back from a spell, ran well in the Jim Maloney, ran second last on Regal Ambition, but ran well, was tacking on strongly through the line, went up to the gloaming, settled back on the inside. It was a good run. It's got to be good form for a race like this. Now, the query is the seven-day backup, dragging it to Melbourne to travel. So, as I say, I'm banking on Nick Olive knowing his horse well, but I think Vaughan O'Shea can run a terrific race. It's drawn to the park, 56.7, somewhere there behind the speed, and get every chance. To Miss Waititi. She gets onto the dry ground here for the first time. Her last trial, you go back and look at her last trial on dry ground, she trialled really well. She should get a beautiful run just behind the speed. She's strong at Flemington. She's got a great hope. Eight, Brinjilla. Looks the leader there. There's some pressure from that wide. It was a good win at Geelong. This lead kept going. And I thought of Chris Waller's fillies, I thought they both got chances, but I thought number 10, Tharwa. It was the best of them. I liked the form through the last run. It's got a wide gate. We'll have to go back. We'll need things to go right. But it looks like it just relished the 2,000 metres. So, I think one. If one just does. If one shows no ill effects of that travel from Sydney last week, it'll run terrific. One, two, eight and 10. Is Brinjilla your leader here? The leader's here, Gareth. Brinjilla will be your first leader. I would think Miss Waititi and Obeah take a sit from gates one and two. Brinjilla should lead from three. Your quick finish, you led in one last time from six. And the two widest gates, Oceans, 407 is a leader. And 14 Levite jumping up in trip with Jamie Spencer from the outside barrier likes to go forward as well. So, I think Brinjilla will be. I think Brinjilla will be your first leader. Brinjilla will be your first leader, to answer your question. After that, maybe one of the ones drawn out wider presses on. But Brinjilla should be your first leader.
Speaker 2In the first couple of races, are we seeing a classic winner?
Speaker 3This right here could be for sure. I think Miss Waititi's, if it's not favourite, it'll be close to favourite for the Oaks. And, you know, something like Vuna Shades could jump out of the ground. Chris Wallace horses could. If they run well here, they could certainly be favourite for the Oaks. So, yes, you could.
Speaker 2All right, then. There we go. Have you got a derby pick yet? Do you like anything that you've seen?
Speaker 3No, not yet. I don't like the one you want to back. I don't like the one you want to back yesterday, so. What, hierarchy? Yeah, I didn't think it was good enough to win the derby, so you can have the $17 there yourself. No, I haven't yet.
Speaker 2All right, then. We're going to take a break. This is the Hunter's Edge on this Friday morning. It is great to have your company. We're previewing the 150th Caulfield Cup meeting. We're going to take a break and come back with plenty more straight after this. Join the conversation.

Don't forget they've got their six-horse challenge there tomorrow with Bet365. So there is a chance if you get all of those races right, you can win $100,000. It was a little difficult last week after Land Legend won the first league, but I think there was about five people that picked Land Legend last week, Mark. So there you go.
Speaker 3I think they paid out on four out of six winners last week, so anything's a bonus.
Speaker 2Yeah, I think it was $600 you got. If you got four out of six. Here we go. We've got a few text messages coming through. Jake goes, did New Balance fly Mark down? Well, not anymore because you can't see him, so he can't show off what New Balance t-shirt he's wearing today.
Speaker 3No, I even got dressed up today, Gary.
Speaker 2Don't lie. Don't lie.
Speaker 3Well, I'm going to the Greyhounds later, so you can't be looking scrubby at the Greyhounds.
Speaker 2The Greyhounds don't start at 6.30, Mark. Yeah, 6.30 tonight.
Speaker 3Getting dressed early, Gary.
Speaker 2Travelled over from Perth to watch Pride of Jenny. Devastated. There you go. So, yeah, it was heartbreaking to learn that Pride of Jenny, nothing serious, Mark. She's just got an infection in her leg, and she needed some antibiotics. So I don't think she, like, they didn't want to risk her coming to Sydney. So she'll be right for the Empire Rose.
Speaker 3I saw Declan Bates interviewed on television. They broke the news to him. It looked like he just turned white.
Speaker 2Yeah, well, you have to feel for him, because he would have, like, knocked back a few rides at Caulfield on Cup Day to ride Pride of Jenny, and then she goes out. So I don't know if he's doing much there tomorrow afternoon, Dex. So, yeah, anyway, she'll be right, hopefully, for the Empire Rose on the opening day of the Flemington Carnival. Let's continue on our Caulfield Cup preview. And we're up to race number three, and there's a short prize favourite here. And there's many of the judges tipping Gigi's mistruth as one of the best bets of the day in the Ellingley Stakes. She's $2.20. Photograph $4.80, signature cent $6.50, Eagle Express at $9, and then Stardom at $12. Dance to the boon. Bjorn Baker gave a very good enough push first up. She's at $15 here, Mark.
Speaker 3I don't know what I'll win, Gareth, but if you're pitting your face, you're punting day in Gigi's mistruth at $2.15, good luck to you. I don't know what I'll win. If I was going to have a bet in the race, I'd bet number seven, Eagle Express, the place. It's no star. It had every chance last time. It'll get the same sort of run here. You're right behind the speed for D-Lane. It's about flip of the coin, the place. Now, it'll sit just behind them, get every chance. It's got to pass a few that get tied, so we'll go with Eagle Express to win. Gigi's mistruth. Look, she might win. I thought she's been very soft over the line both runs back. I thought she was staggering over the line in the Manicato. That was a group one. It was $1,200. She's back to $11, which suits. She gets the blinkers on. Seems to be a bit of throw-at-the-stumps desperation move with her. She'll sit behind. She'll be aided by the scratching of photos. You know, Cove, Pinyon, Gibson, Carmichael. it's not good form it's a nice horse it beat cheese loaded first up it was a very basic horse it did cover ground and got the job done and it's much better than those horses it's got a chance but i think this is a much harder race it needs to take another step obviously you think amon's probably under then as well yes i do i think amon from the barrier needs luck amon the spot for amon is probably outside the leader who looks to be imaria now to do that it's got to get across a few other horses that go forward it's a promising horse you just wouldn't want to see it doing too much work it would weaken so getting out to 400 meters from that barrier
Speaker 2needs luck beautiful so boys bounce $19.450 should we take that price now
Speaker 3i think it's great odds i can't work out why it's such good odds like you go back scarola's good form two starts ago just did too much work in the stud stakes at a mile and just weakened late got by two lengths gets a great run behind them i think it's been missed in the market for sure you you know you're dealing with um star of essence coming off that kill more maiden it's a much harder race so i think boys bounces way over the odds what about richard
Speaker 2lemming's horse how do you pronounce it mark
Speaker 3richard lemming's horse would be kota hatanga gareth it would be yes yes got smashed by a really promising horse on debut that horse is in tonight ring your son or whatever it's called it's in tonight um went and got the job done easily in the cranbourne maiden gets a good run from the barrier it's a much harder race though so i thought it might struggle up in class but they backed it on to boo like it's a good horse
Speaker 2they did but they
Speaker 3underestimated the winter gas the winner the winner just put six lengths on it and stride so they they did back it like it was unbeatable and they built one well second go it's it's a nice horse just into a much harder race but everyone
Speaker 2underestimated that winner that day
Speaker 3they did it got out to ten dollars or something like that and yeah it should have been a 50
Speaker 2yeah to be
Speaker 3winning tonight so
Speaker 2let's look at the gothic so we'll play boys bounce each way they're at 19 dollars and so we're going to look at the gothic so we'll play boys bounce each way they're
Speaker 3at 19 dollars and so we'll play boys bounce each way they're at 19 dollars and so we'll play boys the way they'll be ridden they'll both come from behind the speed so that they'll get every chance to run well so maybe a top four top five finish for both of them the
Speaker 2harry white stakes private eye he loves this type of setup he won this race last year joe pride blake shin he's at 250 but he's a year older he's nine these days but he showed a bit again this preparation warm machine interesting talking to jd hayes yesterday he said gareth it's been an interesting campaign obviously he was so excited about the race he was so excited about the race he was so excited about the race at the gates first up there at flemington so he missed that but he reckons he's got warm machine back or lindsey park have and if he turns up at his best he's going to be hard to beat you and imagine here's sue sensation 850 willow doe at 10 amenable at 10 here to shock at 11 hughes is at 13 and then the tassie horse cartoon graveyard at 26 al rocco at 50 to 1 here mark
Speaker 3a bit like a jackpot on this race um look i don't know they're all going no good gareth they're all going no good so either that or they're not quite good enough um i'll go 261 war machine it's going to get a beautiful run it'll sit right behind the speed it'll get every chance it was pretty good first up at corfield in the heath went to the river clark they decided to ride quietly from the gate that just didn't work it was off its head the whole way it's trialed well since it'll get a youth on his side at being six years old to beat number six zoo sensation went better last time it'll roll forward it's run well against private eye before in races so it's certainly good enough and one private eye gee there's warning signs there he's first up run was good his last two have been just fair he may well win he'll go forward he'll get a good run but at nine years old there's a few warning signs there so i'll go to six and one have you
Speaker 2been happy with hughes trials
Speaker 3going well but he's shown before that race at um packing the supernova he's just not quite good enough in this grade so with 58 and a half kilos from that barrier i thought hughes would struggle to measure
Speaker 2up what about here to shock
Speaker 3went okay last time we'd better second up um on his best form he could compete he's got an awkward gate there's speed in the race so he'll need luck and i'm not sure he's going quite as well as he can the sydney horse has got ability willa doe on its last year went up on the speed come off it come off the straight track race that war machine won running this race last year and was quickly private i just sat on it and just pounced straight past it it's trialing well look it hasn't shown it's good enough to win a race like this but a few of these are on the downslide so maybe this is willa doe's chance but i didn't think
Speaker 2it was quite good enough would you would you have considered amenable if it drew better
Speaker 3oh look it's got a chance it's going okay back from a spell with growing big i don't think a whole lot changed it needs luck it won't shock me if it wins because as i say you know i'm not pinning my faith in any one of these horses amenable will need luck but it wouldn't shock me
Speaker 2for one all right then that's the look at race number five the harry white steak so we're halfway through this call for your cup card here for um the hunter's edge it is great to have your company on this friday morning we'll come back and have a look at the second half of the card next here on
Speaker 1giddyup conversation text us on 0499 736 736 live across australia this is giddyup with gareth hall
Speaker 2welcome back to giddyup gareth hall mark hunter with you for the hunter's edge as we preview the caulfield cup meeting all thanks to kia win big with kia's premiership offers on ev3 and ev5 visit your local dealer today tickets still available for the sports bet caulfield cup as we celebrate 150 years of history just head to ticket tech um 65 a ticket there for caulfield cup meeting and it should be a beauty there tomorrow afternoon there at the heath mark hunter we move on to race number six on the program as we preview this caulfield meeting and this is the henley homes sprint um henley homes the way to go and good on black is great supporter there of the racing industry and cavalry girls at two dollars sixty and it's the market leader here bev's nine at six fifty peloton back to the thousand here we go after winning first up for graham big over eleven hundred at seven dollars oak hill they're backing him again ten dollars into eight dollars and then gallant son at eight fifty hidden motive at nine i'm foxing at eleven dollars and don't hope do a twenty three dollar chance here mark hunter who wins the sprints i
Speaker 3don't know gareth this is a race where you've probably had gg's mistruth and private eye favorites before who may win but may well lose also now you've got cavalry girl the same she's probably the most likely of the favorites in the first half of the program to win look she's had a little break she's trailed well she gets onto dry ground that won't stop her she's probably would be better suited on soft ground but the dry ground won't stop her there is some pressure but it'll go with her to win to beat number six peloton i think if you want to bet in the race you bet peloton the place it ran wasn't a great race at one first start but this isn't much harder there's good speed it'll park somewhere midfield i think it'll pass enough horses to run a place and may well win five bevs nine come off some average trials was good first up should take a seat just behind them once one is eight gee if this horse could find its best form it's got to be hard to beat third the jigsaw and arkansas kid over there ran well given no hope and the wrong race wrong distance last time before a break so that's no guide it's come back it's had a couple of softish trials not sure how it's going but if it can find its best form it's certainly competitive in a race like this so i don't like the race again i'll go two six five and one he's a good horse
Speaker 2sways and day on his day he's at 34 there with bet three six five the archer balls are back in form after getting um a feature winner in the allen brown there last week in sydney so that that might interest me there 34 sways and day um okill's an interest yeah interesting horse okill he's trialed nicely hasn't he there at flemington but can you
Speaker 3trust him well he can win for sure he just needs everything to go right he's been around a corner i know they stretched him out to 13 50 last campaign you're in okay but he's got a good horse he's got a good horse he's got a good horse he's got run on sprinter is his go he draws the barrier draw doesn't really matter for him you just have to go back get cover there does look like there's good speed hidden motive will make them work you've got don't hope to cavalry girl there's nine i don't know what they do with on foxing whether they go forward or not so there looks like good speed wouldn't shock you to see okill just tracking to the race at the 200 meter mark coming to the outside and run them
Speaker 2down but it's a good setup for him i reckon anyway it is it is yeah race number seven um this is the thousand guineas the first of the group ones and saintly dance is your favorite here for kira mar and blake shin i didn't think before that flemington run they were going to go down the thousand guineas path but she bolted home on that occasion and now she rocks up at caulfield tomorrow looking like she might start favorite regal ambition when you talk to the lindsey park team i think they think that this might be their next star and you're getting 460 about her over the bridge at five dollars the arm is at eight dollars for wallace and she's going to be the next star and she's going to be the next star and she's going to be the next star and she's going to be the next star
Speaker 3Thank you. this is a fantastic race gareth this is a really hot edition of the thousand guineas i'm going to go with number nine regal ambition those two wins back from a spell have just been outstanding the sandown hillside win beating stipulation had to make a long run those leaders that are soft lead they kicked you had to make a long run sustain it and then surge late to win did exactly the same at caulfield it missed the kick got out the back had to take off and make something happen pretty baby had a much easier run but regal ambition just surged and got it near the line it draws wide but it doesn't matter it'll miss the kick it'll be at the back the speed looks quite good it'll suit it we'll go with regal ambition to win here to beat number eight over the bridge really unconventional approach to the race jump 1200 to 1600 but i think that's a reflection of what karen thinks of the feeling she's a beauty she did the same she had three wide she had no right to keep coming then she just surged near the line to win i think she is a beauty she'll need a lot of luck from the draw eleven senior song was a good win two starts ago got too far back last time ran well it's a lovely run here and for dianas i think it's best run in new zealand is that fourth just come back from the spell ran well first up was in the worst part of the track last time it maps for a beautiful run midfield here so i'll go nine eight eleven and four what about the speed
Speaker 2in this race is there enough speed for these horses out the back to get into the contest mark
Speaker 3well there is that you've got ruby's choice and sing your song from one and two which will at least make them work rims in your heart's got blinkers on in three goes forward every time saintly dancer is a leader or right up on the speed you've got lara antipova she flies the start and she gets keen so good luck there she'll go forward um isolating obviously goes forward in the two out wide platinum pool i think i heard jack say they'll go back so that takes some speed out of the race and over the bridge we'd nearly led a 1200 meter race last time so it's an interesting setup there's quite a few going forward they should at least run along for the first two or three hundred meters how does mark
Speaker 2right over the bridge then 12 to 1600 from that gate no
Speaker 3i don't know he's got a real issue if he goes forward he's got too many pushing up inside him so i don't know what they'll do with over the bridge it's a terrible barrier and i don't know the best approach to winning the race is isolating the leader well not necessarily grinsing hard in blinkers goes forward every time it's it's third up and final saintly dancer likes i think you're certainly dancer lead when isolating raced against it certainly it's a may well have won the race so whether it wants to lead or hand up again i'm not sure lara antipova gets pretty keen and it flies the start so there will be a battle for the lead
Speaker 2i know you don't ride any horses outside of melbourne or sydney but um geez it's disrespectful isn't it the pretty baby not making your top four she's a good filly she's a really good filly but
Speaker 3look she's she would have been a really good filly but she's a really good filly but she's a really right in the mix on soft ground the last that last up with regal ambition beta regal ambition had a much much harder run it came from the back had to make a long sustained run pretty baby had a beautiful run midfield then regal ambition had to dig deep again and was running away from pretty baby on the line so it's hard to see how pretty baby can beat regal ambition home in this race
Speaker 2platinum pearl if she drew better would you have considered her she's in the mix look she ran well
Speaker 3the other day just got held up on the corner missed the action and ran well from the gate i just don't know i don't know how she can win the race from the gate
Speaker 2the armistice and sing your song both from the champion trainer yard of the champion trainer yard of chris waller so sing your song 13 the armistice at eight dollars who do you like your wish in your song over the armistice just
Speaker 3there's very little between them the armistice they both map for good runs sing your song's going to be back behind them needing the brakes at the right time the armistice maps to be midfield blending into the race it should get every chance so i wouldn't uh wouldn't fight you for who'll be first one home here
Speaker 2i've just got a feeling that we might see a very very good philly here um in real ambition yeah well
Speaker 3regal ambition over the bridge are two highly highly promising horses one could you know the sydney phillies come down they normally blend in perfectly and look the hardest to beat but they've run into two really good melbourne phillies here so you may see pretty special horse win this race let's have a look
Speaker 2at this three-year-old race the blue sapphire stakes over the twelve hundred meters in the philly overexcited who didn't have any luck really down that straight at flemington the other day she's at 340 doubt time at five dollars threads at eight dollars tales of time well clint mcdonald reported that he hated running um in between horses there the other day when he failed as a short price favorite he gets gate one here on saturday um and he's been easy he's at nine dollars excuse me jada bar at 11 barracks at 11 half pipe at 11 stretton rulers at 16 you're getting 17 organized crime and then mafiano at 26 and pocket full of cash at 26 here mark well i think if
Speaker 3overexcited isn't cooked gareth i think she'll win the race she ran second to satana glow two ago which is obviously outstanding form she went down the straight last time she drew bad she had um next episode in boobay zambali's draw next to her so she couldn't get out to the right part of the track now if you're down that inside part of the track at flemington and it's no good you know that horse smooth chino i backed the bergerac in that race if you swap their settling spots then you would swap their finishing spots it makes that much difference overexcited just could not get in the right part of the track made a burst and all the horses out wide were just in the better ground and too good for it here she's back on the dry ground she'll park just off midfield but daniel is easily the best form coming into the chase and i think she'll bounce back and i think she'll win it was in the right part of the track in that race it ran really well now it's going to go back from the gate it'll need every step of 1200 meters but be charging 10 half pipe he's got some ability this horse looking at those runs i don't think mickey d will be a negative riding change uh forced the blue door from the long way back ran well and eight organized crawling got around 1200 meters it gets a good run from the gate and i think comes through one of the stronger races leading into this so i'll go 12 6 10 and 8. how many
Speaker 2runs is too much in your first preparation do you have philosophy there no
Speaker 3i don't but when they have one like that last run that can be the sign that they're just about at the end things didn't go right sort of a forgettable experience she's on her first campaign i think the first lot of trials and races so it's all coming quickly this would probably be i wouldn't be looking much beyond this
Speaker 2one yeah um and this is where you get your edge you like backing horses that you believe the jockeys have got into the wrong spot there down that straight at flemington can see yeah it's unbelievable the
Speaker 3difference it makes like that smooth chino race smith chino was just in the best part of the track i backed the bergerac it went straight to the worst part of the track i think it ran 56 7 somewhere there but if you switch their settling positions you would switch their finishing positions
Speaker 2for sure um what about threads he was impressive the other day rail was
Speaker 3out a million miles it was a good win it jumped on the bunny and scooted along and beat javadar and amon which is pretty good form i think the dane hill is a much much better race though so i'm going with the daniel form thread's got a chance but i'm going with the daniel form to
Speaker 2be stronger can barracks take that
Speaker 3next step well it's tardy at the start it misses the kick a little bit then gets itself into a spot so if it jumps okay can take a spot it's a much harder race but it's fitter for that first up you know i wouldn't put a pen through barracks at all
Speaker 2can you forgive pocket full of cash there at flemington
Speaker 3well you're just banking on the wet track being the excuse but you still have stretch to win from that pecan synthetic race to be winning this race
Speaker 2all right then so 12 6 10 and 8 in race number eight so mark hunter with the philly overexcited in the blue sapphire there tomorrow afternoon we'll take a break here this is giddy up in the hunter's edge on the other side of it we'll preview the 150th running of the caulfield cup
Speaker 1join the conversation text us on 0-4-double-9-7-3-6-7-3-6 live across australia this is giddy up with gareth hall
Speaker 2welcome back to giddy up this is the hunter's edge all thanks to kia win big with kia's premiership offers on the ev3 and ev5 visit your local kia dealer today we're about to preview the 150th running of the caulfield cup your favorite caulfield cup moment you've been you've been here for most of them anyway
Speaker 3mark he's up he's up uh all the good gareth all the good okay
Speaker 2they're for godolphin
Speaker 3i tossed up i tossed up whether to take a trifecta or a first floor yeah and i took a trifecta it got up and actually paid 70 000 so which is great news but uh the first
Speaker 2four back in those days would have been 50 cents in a dollar there wouldn't be
Speaker 3um the flexi probably 50 cents but um the first four paid 700 000 which i should have got oh no
Speaker 2so you felt sick even though you won 40 000. i lost
Speaker 3and last year i tossed up i tossed up last year to take a raving banker with half you wasn't i would have got it i think it paid 90 000. i didn't take it yeah well
Speaker 2well you better take it this year then i'll be interested to see who you are tipping in the caulfield cup um cosmic crusader he's easy now he's at the 550 saint george eight dollars is equal second favorite with the stable mate in saran at eight dollars both in the aussie care colors wine dark c and 850 and the jar for ray dawson he'll be a great story ray if he can win this caulfield cup at 11. half yours at 12 for all supremacy at 13. The Euphrates is yet to get a start at 15. Juju Cabot at 15. Will be hard to beat in Sydney tomorrow. She's a hustler at 17. Starford at 19. I hope he wins at 20 to 1. Treasure the Moment at 26. Kingswood at 29. And then Kings Valley at $29. Middle Earth at 30 to 1. Knights Choice, $34, has had support. Sol of Spain, $34. Point of Law, $34. Green Spaces, the Derby winner at 40 to 1. Asterix at 50 to 1. And Mr. Monaco at $51 here for the Caulfield Cup, Mark.
Speaker 3I share Ray's philosophy, Gareth. One's too many and 10's not enough. I share that philosophy. Yes, yes, yes. I'm going to tip Zaran. I don't know what happened to it last time. You could say the heavy track. They've obviously put a tongue tie on. So you've just got to put a pin through that run, be forgiving that it will bounce back to its best. If it does, then I think Zaran's the one to beat. It was fantastic. In the naturalism, you go back to its 2,500-metre form overseas. They were ripping runs. The two best-drawn horses in this race are Zaran and Half Yours. They met for great runs, about sixth or seventh. And I think if you just forget that last run at 20th and then Zaran's the one to beat. Seven in for Jar. Had one go at the trip. It went to the front. It ran them into the ground. It's got barrier one. It will look to do the same. As long as he can get it out the gates and push forward and lead, I think it'll be off and gone and make a real staying test. It'll run well. One Half Yours only had the three goes at a mile and a half or further for the Queensland win, the Caulfield Cup and the Melbourne Cup. Wasn't quite ready for that race last time. Ran well. It'll get a great run for Zaran. It'll run well. And 17, I hope he wins. The two Oaks wins have been terrific. She's just got that beautiful Chris Waller preparation. She basically had a barrier trial first up, showed improvement second up, showed improvement third up. She's ready to fly. So I'll go 16, 7, 1 and 17.
Speaker 216, 7, 1 and 17 in the Caulfield Cup. Will it be a truly run Caulfield Cup this year?
Speaker 3Yes, it will be, is my first thought. Infajar will try and lead from one. Now, overseas jockeys can get it right, can get it wrong. It will need to begin. St. George from two will bounce and take a spot. So Infajar wouldn't want to miss the kick. You've got She's a Hustler is going to be handy from what she came into five. Royal Supremacy. She ran in the Caulfield Cup last year, missed the start, went fantastic. Now, if Jamie Spencer can get out the gates, it may well lead or be outside leader. And the ones from out wide, Warren Darksey usually goes forward and I would think Kingswood has to go forward. So there will be a bustle early. Ray will be trying to find his spot from barrier one. And he'll be, I would say, a little bit anxious and pushing up inside them. So they should belt along early as long as he jumps okay.
Speaker 2That is the key, isn't it? If he can hold a spot Infajar at the start of the race.
Speaker 3Yeah, he'll make them all work. Like it was a good one the other day. It jumped. I know they run a more relaxed tempo early over there, but it flew the start and went straight to the front. So he's got no, he can't afford to get buried behind St. George or he's, it'll just turn to custard for him. So he needs to begin and get going early.
Speaker 2After smashing our best way for age horses in a Turnbull Stakes, you haven't got Cosmic Crusader in your top four.
Speaker 3He's in my quaddie and he'll be in my trifecta. Look, he's, he's big wins recently have been on wet ground. You go back to his dry track wins recently, but haven't been by big margins. He puts a gap in him on the soft. He was hard and fit the other day. He had alien and Sidelius weren't ready for that sort of race. A lot of true man gave them. He draws wide Cosmic Crusader. I can't, I don't think he could possibly go back. So I think he's got to try and find a spot in the first half of the field at 2,500 meters. So he'll need luck, dry ground, wide gate. He's got a chance, but it's a, it gets harder each time for him.
Speaker 2Wine, dark sea.
Speaker 3Wine, dark sea was terrible. Two starts. Then suddenly last time it was 14 to one in the seven to two lead in one beating Dubai on us. So I don't want to be a bookie over there. Look, it can, it'll be well-written. You've got two line, which is a massive plus. So, you know, you'll get a good ride. You know, he'll begin. He'll, he'll get it forward. It's in my quaddie. It's in my trifecta. It's in everything I do.
Speaker 2What about staff for the other international for Joseph O'Brien? He's got a happy knack of getting his horses to run career best when it matters most. Most.
Speaker 3Yeah. Look, Stafford can win the, the, the best run for Stafford was the chest. The chest is like the meadows. You get back around there, you're gone. It was just roaring through the line. Now the query I've got with Stafford is a strong 2,500 meters. Didn't really had a big weight last time at 63 and a half, but you wouldn't say you wouldn't say it was super strong through the line. So Stafford can win. We'll go in everything, but I'm a little concerned about a strong 2,400.
Speaker 2And no love for St. George or you think he's in the calculations from that?
Speaker 3Draw. He's got, he'll get every chance. St. George. Um, look, he's got a hope he go back through his UK for me that run beyond Gregory, I think it was 2,800 or 2,900 or something like that. He, so he should run the trip. He's in career best form. He'll get a beautiful run. Um, I thought Saran, even though it had less weight was too good for him in the naturalism. So if you line the two of them up, I think Saran will beat St. George, but he'll get every chance. He'll look the winner at some stage.
Speaker 2All right. Caulfield cup. Yes or no. Can they win in this year's 150? Running of the Caulfield cup with Mark Hunter. Here we go. Number one, half yours. Yes. Two cosmic crusader. Yes. Three treasure the moment. No. Four Kingswood. No. Five nights choice. Nope. Six middle earth. Nope. Seven amphijar. Yes. Eight green spaces. Nope. Nine rural supremacy. Yes. 10 wine, dark sea. Yes. 11 asterisks. Nope. 12 St. George. Yes. 13 staff it. Yes. 14. She's a hustler. Nope. 15 soul of Spain. Nope. 16 Saran. Yes. 17. I hope he wins. Yes. 18 Kings Valley.
Speaker 3Um, I'll go, I'll go.
Speaker 2No, no. Okay. And then the emergencies, which are unlikely to get a star. Uh, you're afraid to use Juju Cabo point of Laura, Mr. Monica. So there you go. The yes or no's for the Caulfield cup. We're going to come back and we're going to analyze the final event there tomorrow at Caulfield next year on the Hunter's edge.
Speaker 1Text us on 0 4 double 9 7 3 6 7 3 6 live across Australia. This is giddy up.
Speaker 2With Gareth hall, welcome back to giddy up. Gareth hall, Mark Hunter with you. This is the Hunter's edge as we get set for the Caulfield cup. All thanks to of course, Kia, um, win big with keys. Premiership offers on the V3 and V5 visit your local dealer today. And of course, bet three, six, five. It's never ordinary when it's brought to you by bet three, six, five. We're up to the final race at Caulfield. And this is the Tristock stakes for review is one of the roughies. It's going in market order. Concord. Connie is a two 60 shadow bar at $6. Mary gold at seven 50 gold medalist at eight and then double figures for the rest here. Mark Hunter. Um, she is an interesting run at Concord. Connie tomorrow. Yes.
Speaker 3She'll be carrying the hopes of a nation. I would imagine if you come to the last six, she can win, but it's a good race with a lot of chances. I'm going to have something on a couple with value five and six. I think number five, Mary gold is dead set, ready to win. Mary gold for Johnny Sadler. She ran well, first up at Flemington. Didn't have the clearest passage was good through the line. She dropped back to 1200 last start last week in the Northwood plume and basically had a barrier trial. She just jogged behind them. She never got out. She would have gone close to winning if she got to be outside and let rip, she would have gone close to winning. So from a better barrier fitter, I think Mary gold is ready to fire. Number six. You're right. Nice. Maybe you're right. Ran really well. First up in the Northwood plume will be fitter 12 Concord. Connie, she can win. Northwood gate. I think she's in a decent race. She's well found in the market. She's got a good hope and 11 butternut princess who just continues to have no luck time between ones now, but got a good chance. The race doesn't in the five, six, 12, 11.
Speaker 2So five, six, 12, 11 in that last race there at Caulfield tomorrow. Um, interesting that you're taking on Concord, Connie, like how good do you think that she can be? Or do you think maybe there's too many wraps on her?
Speaker 3Well, she was fantastic winning that race. On Anzac day. She did, she got the right spot. She blew them away. She was super there. She wasn't as impressive betting flying done. She went for a spell. Look, percent pro beta who doesn't run 1200 last up. So she did cover ground morning to not her track. She probably should have won the race. She's a good mayor. Um, and she'll be fitter for that run. She might come out here and really stamp herself where she's going. I just think it's an open race. There's some handy, tough news and she's well found in the market.
Speaker 2All right. Then that's a look at the Caulfield Cup car. We're going to take a break on the other side of it. We'll go through all of your questions on the Garrett's Horse and Hound text line. Oh, four double nine seven three six seven three six plus we'll recap Mark Hunter's best bets and staking plan there for that Caulfield Cup meeting.
Speaker 1Text us on oh four double nine seven three six seven three six live across Australia. This is Gideon with Gareth Hall.
Speaker 2Great to have your company on this Friday morning. This is the Hunter's Edge, all thanks to Kia. We just had a look at that Caulfield Cup meeting with Mark Hunter, and we'll go through a few of your text messages now on the Garrett's Horse and Hound text line, 0499736736, to join our conversation. Mark, what odds over the bridge has she won over 1,400 last start? Some experts think it's the best horse, but the 1,200 to 1,600 defies logic. The horse is in the right stable to pull it off. Your thoughts on all of that, Mark?
Speaker 3I think whoever that caller is just summed it up beautifully, Garrett. The 1,200 to 1,600 is a really unusual preparation, but with Kieran Marr doing it, you don't second-guess it at all. If she'd been to a 1,400, she may well be favoured. If she drew a barrier, she may well be favoured. So she's got a lot of obstacles in her way, but she just might be. an outstanding filly.
Speaker 2Travis from Fitzroy says, Backmarkers go well on the first couple of races. Can I back Oak Hill with confidence? Gambling responsibly, of course, or does the rest of the field just have him covered, no matter the track bias?
Speaker 3No, there shouldn't be a track bias that stops Oak Hill. They've raced there on Saturday. You'd think you'd be able to run on, so I wouldn't talk about backing Oak Hill. It should get a chance to win if it's good enough.
Speaker 2Craig says, Will Mark tip the WA champ for its fourth win this preparation? Melbourne for the first time. The answer's no there. War Machine finally draws a barrier. Dead set special, Mark. Get on. That's another statement.
Speaker 3War Machine and dead set special shouldn't be in the same sentence, Gareth.
Speaker 2Keith says, G'day, Gareth and Mark. Surely head wall is a major chance if the track is a heavy eight or worse. Lethal on the heavy. Thoughts on the Everest, Mark? I haven't asked you about the Everest just yet.
Speaker 3No, you're probably better not to. But, look, I would think head wall. I wouldn't. I couldn't see how head wall is good enough to win that race, possibly. If last run was just okay, I'd be stunned if head wall won.
Speaker 2Is carrying rising regardless of the ground over the line?
Speaker 3Well, it's going to be hard. It's got to be the one to beat, Gareth. You'd think. I think you've come up with really clever thoughts for your carrying rising to be tempted, so it took a while to find those two, and your carrying rising should win. What about Giggie kick on a heavy track? Yeah, well, that's his go. He didn't fire. First up 1,000, didn't suit. Him, last time the track was too dry. He's got the blinkers on at 1,200. Him, Jolly Star, and Jimmy Star, you'd think would be the other three fighting out the. at least the third placing.
Speaker 2Good morning. Why is no one giving Treasure the Moment a chance tomorrow? She's much classier than a lot of these horses, even though she's not at her best. I'm so confident that she'll run a huge race tomorrow. Settle in the first half of the field from barrier five and be mighty hard to beat. That's from Tony from Wyndham Vale.
Speaker 3Well, her 2,500-meter form is very good. I think he summed it up when he said she's not at her best. I think she ran about as well as she can last week, running fifth, comfortably beaten. So she'll get a beautiful run. Daniel Stachius will go and put her in the box seat, third, fourth, fifth, somewhere there. She'll get every chance. The distance is no worries. I'm not sure she's going as well as she can.
Speaker 2Hi, guys. This is Cliff from Now. Good on you, Cliff. My Caulfield Cup tip is I hope he wins, and my Everest tip is, going, rising, tempting, giga kick to finish in the minor placings. Best weekend of racing all year. Goodbye. Good punting. Good on you, Cliff. You'll have 1,000 bets tomorrow. Morning, lads. Tuesday, tomorrow, Mark, do you rate Enford Char? You've got him in for second or third, haven't you?
Speaker 3Second. Yep, he's got a great chance. He needs to begin.
Speaker 2The last horse to win from barrier one in a Caulfield Cup was 1941. I'm pretty sure, but barrier one's not a bad barrier. If he can jump, I reckon, tomorrow. Gareth, can't believe Mark said no to Treasure of the Moment. There's a few Treasure of the Moment fans. Two starts at distance, two wins. Barrier five doing no work. Best 40 to one chance of all time. That's from Peter. Dave, wondering why Mark rates she's a hustler as a no to have a chance of winning the Caulfield Cup.
Speaker 3She's a hustler. Won the zipping classic. She's a very good mare. She's coming in third up, which is not easy, and I'm not sure her. She'll get a great run. She'll be there at the 400. I think she'll finish within three to four lengths of the winner, but I don't think she's quite good enough to win a Caulfield Cup.
Speaker 2Morning, lads. Agree with Mark Merigold, bet of the day. And Johnny Sadler, he ends his career in November. What a champion he's been. What a career. He's been a great character for the racing game, Mark.
Speaker 3He's a fantastic man, Johnny Sadler.
Speaker 2He's very funny.
Speaker 3He loves to laugh, loves a beer. He's a good man. He's been a fantastic trainer, too.
Speaker 2Very astute trainer. When they backed him, they usually got
Speaker 3the cash. Yeah, there was one the other day at Pakenham that sailed along in front, Little Richo. Looked like it was well-fancied.
Speaker 2Morning, lads. What are your thoughts on Butternut Princess in the last at Caulfield, coming off basically a trial last start?
Speaker 3It's had a few of those. It's not having much luck in life, Butternut Princess. It's a good race. It's a really open race for two Moody Coleman runners, Butternut Princess and Gold Medalist. They've both got good chances, so Butternut Princess goes in the quad, he goes in everything.
Speaker 2Leaving 0-2. Good out. Any luck early, and she's a huge chance to win. That's a big mistake, Mark. That's from Jane.
Speaker 3Yeah, no, she can win. I thought she trialled average going into her last campaign, and I thought her runs were below par. I think she's trialled much better this time coming in. The scratching of Recuperado and Pillow Fight, the two scratchings have taken some speed out of the race. You've still got a couple there, Shadova, probably your leader, but it helps her to good. She goes in everything.
Speaker 2Mark didn't mention Saintly Dancer in his preview in the Thousand Guineas. Well, he didn't have a chance. He didn't have her in your top four there in the Thousand Guineas. Mark wants to know why, Mark.
Speaker 3Well, I think she's, I can't believe how short she is, Gareth. Yeah, I can't believe that either, really. She was in the Pretty Baby race at Sandown where she was, given no hope, she was back and went back from the gate. She was in the worst ground. She's got about six lengths. The Thousand Guineas Prelude was a good race to be up on speed with Ice Lady. They just controlled it, dominated and kicked. Now, I don't know the Heavy 10. The manifold was a great guide. I think it's a much harder race for Saintly Dancer. She gets a great run for Blake Sheen. I thought she was well under the odds. I think, I think over the bridge and regular ambition are better horses than Saintly Dancer comfortably.
Speaker 2We've got a few more questions before we recap your best bets. Cartoon Graveyard, worth a few on it. That's from Trent from Swan Hill.
Speaker 3Not hopeless. Look, it's that sort of race. If the pensioners have bad days, Cartoon Graveyard wouldn't shock you. It's coming off a Swan Hill Cup, which you think wouldn't be good enough to win the Harry White Snakes. It's that sort of race. Cartoon Graveyard wouldn't shock me.
Speaker 2Mark, I've backed pride of Jenny in the Empire Rose. She misses this run. Should I be nervous?
Speaker 3Well, Gareth, you never want setbacks in life, do you? So I know it's not, it's only a little leg infection or whatever it is, but you just don't want setbacks. You want things to progress perfectly and they obviously haven't. So yes, she may well win, but I'd be a little nervous.
Speaker 2Hi, Mark. Interested in why you're not as keen on Frigilla as much as other people. That's from Ruben. That's got a good chance, Frigilla.
Speaker 3The good form race two ago, and then led and got stronger last time. It's got a good chance. I just think it's a, it's a harder race. It didn't have a lot chasing it at Geelong. It's a harder race, got a good barrier. It's got a good hope, but it's been very well found in the market in an open race.
Speaker 2All right, then let's recap your best bets on Caulfield Cup Day, Mark Hunter. We'll go over excited.
Speaker 3Gareth, race eight, number 12, the best bet of the day that Dina Malti, race seven, number nine, Regal Ambition into race eight, number 12, over excited. The Rema Ruffy, race one, number five, Skewer. We just hope Ethan has some luck early. Uh, the Denny Delray Daily Double, Denny's favorite Caulfield Cup was Diatribe. Um, Denny Delray Daily Double, first leg, six, eight, 10 and 12. Second leg, five, six, 11 and 12. The quaddie, I think it's a wide, wide open quaddie. So I've done this before. I'm going to take four different quaddies with my top pick, one out in each leg and going wide in the others. These are all the numbers. Uh, first leg, three, four, five, eight, nine and 11. Second leg, six, eight, 10 and 12. Third leg, one, two, seven, nine, 10, 12, 13, 16 and 17. Last leg, three, five, six, nine, 10, 11 and 12. So just to explain that for example. In the first leg we'll take Regal Ambition, number nine, the top pick with all the numbers and we'll take all the numbers with Overexcited, one out and we'll take all the numbers with Zaran, one out and we'll take all the numbers with Marigold, one out. Um, a hundred dollar spend box trifecta in the cup always pays well because of the cup trifectas. So we'll go box up one, two, seven, nine, 10, 12, 13, 16 and 17. Uh, Cranbourne, race seven, number six, Crocodile. Crocodile short, but should win. And Spud's very keen on Perth. He likes two horses, race six, number four and race 10, number 10. High degree of confidence there from Spud.
Speaker 2Spud's just like, he's just jumped out of the ground. All of a sudden he's been tipping his winners for fun. In fact, he's just making you look silly at the moment. And now he's giving us two specials. I love that.
Speaker 3When they went across the line last week, that horse, he tipped Abyssinian, whatever it's called. Yeah. He just said free money, just free money. -
Speaker 2It just proves You've got to be resilient in this game. He couldn't hit one outside of the circle. Now he's smashing them over cover for six. That I know about it. Yes. Enjoy the Caulfield Cup, Mark. And with that box for effect, I'm going to box the first four after a few of your stories that you told us at the start of the show, just in case. Just in case. Why not? Enjoy every state, I think, in Sydney that you like.
Speaker 3I'll give you a few. Ruffy's Gareth in Sydney. I'll give you race one, number eight, Hooligan Tommy. I thought he ran well the other day. Had no luck. About 33 to one. I thought that the Bellwine Gangster raced 10, number 17. I thought he ran really well in the wrong part of the race at Flemington. I reckon he'll love the wet. And I thought Skyhawk would win the Silver Eagle. Not a Ruffy, but I thought Skyhawk would win the Silver Eagle.
Speaker 2Okay. Over by Wacky. He probably won't be at his best, I reckon, on a rain-effected track. There you go. Good on you, mate. We appreciate your time. And, yeah, looking forward to seeing you at the races tomorrow. Al, in fact, tonight at the docks, Jungle Johnny, I reckon, will win the million-dollar chase. Just need some luck out of that.
Speaker 3Don't forget those tickets, please, Gareth.
Speaker 2Well, if you caught your herb, I would have given them to you. So, I don't know if you'll get them now. Thanks for that, mate. Appreciate it. Hey, and don't forget now, next week, Mark, we're at the Ascot Vale Hotel, a hotel close to your heart. We're doing the Giddy Up Show live from the Ascot Vale Hotel. And so, he'll be there. He's got a check out of his hotel. So, yeah, looking forward to that. Speaking of the Ascot Vale Hotel, we'll tell you all about it straight after the break. And then, also, we've got Josh Holt that's not far away with the weather update regarding the Caulfield Cup meeting in Everest Day, especially. And then the weekend preview team are ready to go. And we have some mega boosts for you today. Like the best mega boost that Brayden's ever given us. He's taking us on. So, good on you, Brayden. I'll shout you lunch for this. You've been good to us. I'll reveal all of that at, 9.30 on this Friday morning. This is Giddy Up, all thanks to Bet365.
Speaker 1Live across Australia. This is Giddy Up with Gareth Hall.
Speaker 2I'm getting a lot of feedback regarding my top four multi-selection. I have missed out the last couple of weeks. I have been, I've been disappointing and it's nearly D-Day for me. I'm weighing up two horses here and I need you to help me. And you can text in the horse that I should go for, and then I'll leave it up to you. So I'm going to go Skua race one. I know he led us down there the other day at Flemington, but it was three wide without cover. We didn't have much luck. And the other horse, the safer option, I don't think she'll miss the top four. I reckon she'll probably win the thousand guineas. And that's Regal Ambition. So either Skua with a bit of value or Regal Ambition. Let me know what I should, what you'd be doing with my selection for the weekend preview top four multi. You can tell me on the Garrett's horse and hound text line on 0 4 double nine 7 3 6 7 3 6. Every time I turn the TV on, even even channels outside of his own channel, channel 10 and scroll through social media. I see this man, Josh Holt, the weatherman for channel 10. He's a punter as well. He's been brilliant with all of his expertise regarding the weather this week. And he joined us on the show. And he joins us now for this all important weather update, especially for Everest day. Josh, welcome back to giddy up. Thanks for having me again, Gareth. What are we expecting tomorrow,
Speaker 5mate? Yeah, well, look, it's a, it's countdown now, isn't it? We're not far away from the big race in Sydney. Of course, the Everest fast approaching. The good news is we do have some nice weather this morning here in Sydney. The sunshine is out. There's a bit of broken cloud around at this stage. Now we've still got those onshore easterly winds. So what does that mean? Well, the odd shower is likely to still pass across Sydney today. However, just looking at the latest modelling, I don't think we're going to see any drastic deluge or anything like that compared to what we did see earlier in the week. So that is good news. Look, some of the models are playing with some light showers moving across Sydney at around about lunchtime or mid afternoon today, whether they hit Randwick or not remains to be seen. But we, we may get a few spits and spats across Sydney again. So hopefully it won't have a major impact on the track. What I'm looking at with interest, because we know rain on race day makes a huge difference. It does look like there is a slight chance we may see a shower on Saturday around Sydney, perhaps around about the afternoon or evening. So it just remains to be seen whether that does affect the track before the Everest. But fingers crossed, it all goes to plan and we don't get too, too much across the track. I am expecting it to improve though through today compared to what we did see yesterday with that line of showers, which was just constantly moving in across the eastern suburbs of Sydney. Now while we're picking up that rain yesterday, in contrast, when we picked up around about 20 millimetres near the track up on the northern beaches in Sydney, they picked up half a millimetre. So we have been really, really, really unlucky in terms of the track in Sydney over the past 24 hours. But fingers crossed today we see an improving track into that soft, seven range and you never know if the rain does stay away. We could even see it improve to a soft six, but that remains to be seen.
Speaker 2So if the rain comes, we're probably going to be on a heavy track closer to that meeting. Um, so that's yeah.
Speaker 5Yeah, I would say if we get any further rainfall today or especially more so tomorrow, I think if we do get those showers tomorrow afternoon, it could flick back into that heavy eight range. But it does look like, you know, best case we're probably on a, on a soft seven.
Speaker 2And it's a beautiful day in Melbourne town tomorrow afternoon. They don't have to worry about that at Caulfield.
Speaker 5No, there's no dramas at Caulfield. As we said earlier in the week, I was expecting a good four track and that's exactly what we're probably going to get. We've got mostly sunny skies today, 23 degrees and check this out. Caulfield Cup day looking absolutely sensational, mostly sunny 25 degrees. So if you're heading out to Caulfield tomorrow, you know, frock up, take the hat. It's going to be absolutely tremendous for those temps in the mid twenties.
Speaker 2Mate, we know that you love a pun. Um, who do you like tomorrow?
Speaker 5Yeah, look, I just, I still think, you know, carrying risings, the horse to bait, what he's been doing overseas is just absolutely phenomenal, especially with big weights as well. I think if it's a soft seven, I still think he can get the job done without too many dramas. If we did get those showers though, and it did flick into the heavy, range tomorrow, people are going to laugh at me and I don't really care. Um, I don't mind if it was a, if it was a heavy track, I've got a lot of respect for spicy Martini. I think she's a really, really progressive horse, um, who goes absolutely super in the wet, um, drawn well in four. I'm expecting her to be two pairs back on the outside. And if it is one of those races where, you know, it is a heavy age or God forbid a heavy nine, and it turns into a bit of a slog fest, she's going to be really, really strong. And it was the, uh, the last race, the shorts, I thought she was just as good as jolly star. So I think it's $61. If it was a heavy track, it's not the worst bet in the world. And I've had, I've had something on her, but, uh, in saying all of that, I still think carrying rising is the horse debate.
Speaker 2She's you've, you've made a really good case for spicy Martini. She was excellent there in a stride broken. When you have a look back at history with Everest winners, this, Stradbroke's been a great race. Bella, nip at Tina, um, Joe prize. Think about, think about,
Speaker 5think about it. Um, also came through, you've got that residual fitness from the, from the Brisbane winter carnival. Um, and sometimes that Ramik, as I mentioned, you know, with those 1200 meter, um, races in the wet, sometimes they can play a little bit like a 1400 meter race. So anyway, it remains to be seen if it is a faster track though. Um, she'll probably struggle to keep up with some of these faster horses, but, uh, we'll see what happens tomorrow. It's all up to the weather gods, isn't it? Yes.
Speaker 2Good on you, mate. We wish you the best of luck. Enjoy Everest day and Caulfield cup day. Good punting. And we appreciate all your help this week.
Speaker 5Good luck. Good luck.
Speaker 2There's channel 10's Josh Holt. Um, don't forget with bet three, six, five, we've got the stake back office. So in races one, two, and three on Caulfield cup day, if your runner doesn't win, this is the best anywhere. This deal, you'll receive a bonus bet back. So the bet three, six, five stake back offer in races one, two, and three on Caulfield cup day. If your runner doesn't win, you'll receive a bonus bet back. Um, we're about to have a chat to Nick Schultz from the Ascot Vale hotel, because this time next week, we'll be at the Ascot Vale hotel for a special giddy up. We've got the giddy up Cox plate Eve luncheon straight after the show. Um, you can get tickets still. We've got some lineup. So, um, Libby will be there. Obviously the superstar, um, from the Western Bulldogs, he's just recently retired Tommy liberatory. So he'll be there. David King will be there. Um, we'll have all of the, the major plays ahead of Cox plate debut and Baker Trent Busseton and the, the best jockey in the world and James McDonald. So it's some lineup and then all of our, um, SCN track, um, stars miles will be there and the captain he'll be front and square, um, in David Taggart and Nick Schultz from the Ascot Vale hotel joins me now.
Speaker 6G'day Schultzy. G'day, J-Man, on tonight.
Speaker 2Happy Friday. Happy Friday, mate. This time next week we'll be at your pub. I can't wait for it. It was so much fun last year, but I reckon it'll be bigger and better this time around.
Speaker 6Yeah, I think so. It's already looking pretty big with the line-up we've got in JMAC and come out to have a beer with Bjorn Baker and Trent Busseton and the likes of Jack Jenkins and all. So, yeah, looking very much forward to it, mate.
Speaker 2Yeah, so Jack Jenkins will be there as well, and he's been in red-hot form on the tip. So what happens, we can get our tickets at the Ascot Vale Hotel on the social media platforms. It's $200 a ticket, but that provides you a whole afternoon of a drink package. There's food and obviously hopefully some entertainment as well.
Speaker 6Yeah, absolutely. So $200 will get you, yeah, drinks from 12 till 4, thanks to our friends at CUB and Vas Felix Wine. So there'll be a sparking on arrival. And then, yeah, catapes will be on throughout the day. So, yeah, very much looking forward to it.
Speaker 2Tags is ready to go. He says, I'll emcee the luncheon, Gareth. You can take a back seat. He goes, he wants to interview JMAC. And Bjorn Baker and Trent Busseton, they are crazy Kiwis, and they will be a lot of fun. They'll be completely mad. And I don't know if we'll be able to film the conversation that we'll have up on stage, but they will be a couple of guests that I've listened to. I've listened to Bjorn on several occasions, and especially if he has a couple of Carlton drafts. He is, yeah, well, he's different, but he's entertaining. Yeah, and we'll get Liber up as well. We'll get him on stage with Kingy. So it's a terrific line-up, mate. I can't wait for it. It's going to be a lot of fun.
Speaker 6Yeah, can't wait. Just quickly, what do you think about Just Folk in the King Charles tomorrow, G-Man?
Speaker 2I think that he's a chance to run top four now. Yeah, he'll lead. He'll give a sight. He'll get windburned by Autumn Glow and Child Wolf probably, but Jimmy, of course, who's part of the pub there at the Ascot Vale Hotel, he's got a share in Just Folk. He's been a great horse for Gavin Bedgegood and the Marlbag team, so I wish Jimmy the best of luck. They tell me if he finishes top three, Jim's going to shout the bar. So the first beer after four o'clock. That's the mail I'm getting.
Speaker 6That's the deal. If he runs a drum, beer's on Jimmy, I reckon.
Speaker 2Now, tell me, have you got a winner for him? For us? Have you got a winner for us?
Speaker 6Yeah, I do like Caulfield Cup tomorrow, Wine Dark Sea. I think Frosty on board, you know, I think it'll run pretty well and it'll be hard to stop, I reckon.
Speaker 2All right, he's a regular too at the Ascot Vale Hotel. Well, he's, no, that's his local pub, isn't it, the Ascot Vale Hotel for Frosty? So he won't have to pay for it. Yeah, if Wine Dark Sea wins, you won't be paying for a drink, Frosty. Well, good luck, mate. We appreciate your time, Schultzy, and get your tickets. So how do you get your tickets once again?
Speaker 6Just head to the Instagram handle, Ascot Vale Hotel, and you can see in the bio there. Just click on that and follow the prompts and we'll look forward to having a beer next week together. Thanks, mate. All right, then.
Speaker 2Good on you, Schultzy. Thanks for that, Nick Schultz, the man that looks after the Ascot Vale Hotel. He's got a great team with him, but he's a star. Now, we're about to have our weekend preview, and it's not far away. A couple of minutes away. I don't know if I can get Zach Tunbridge in. He's in the studio with me here in Sydney because the Megaboost, we're going to announce it after 9.30, but it is the best Megaboost that we've ever had. I can't believe Brayden has allowed me to get this through, but he said, Gareth, for you, since you're in Sydney and you're going to take me out for lunch, you're welcome. So I'll reveal that after 9.30, but we've also got our weekend preview top four multi as well. And I'm getting some feedback here, Paulie Sebastiani. I did send it out to the listeners, Regal Ambition or Skewer, and it's an overwhelming success to Regal Ambition, basically.
Speaker 7Very good morning to you, Gareth. Hope the Sydney side is treating you well, at least better than the Uber app. Shout out to all the Uber drivers out there and Mark Hunter, the poor bugger. Now, we did get some feedback off the text line, as you quite rightly pointed out, and a few people wanted, Mark, in the top four multi this week. So you've got a few selection headaches coming into the weekend preview, not for this week, but for next week, if some players do not deliver, Gareth.
Speaker 2Well, you put your hand up, Paulie Sebastiani. You said you don't miss out on the mega boost, and you missed out again yesterday. Yeah, very, very stiff.
Speaker 7Very stiff yesterday, but we'll bounce back this weekend. Don't you worry about that. I'm looking forward to what this mega boost is. I've got no idea what it is. You're going to reveal it all after 9.30.
Speaker 2It is one of the best mega boosts. In fact, I think it'll be hard to beat this mega boost that we'll announce after 9.30. But I'm going to go Regal Ambition. It just gets the non-over scorer. I know the stable are very keen. Even though Sue from Morty Alex says, go with scorer on top, Gareth, hit the face. I should, Sue, but I'll go with Regal Ambition. Thanks for that, Paulie.
Speaker 7Thank you, G. Go well with the preview.
Speaker 2Yeah, we're going to take a quick break on the other side of it. Zach Tunbridge will join me in the studio, and Mickey Gannon and Dean Watling, are ready to go for the weekend preview next. He's made us change the stinger, Dean Watling, as we welcome you back to Giddy Up for the weekend preview. Gareth Hall with you, and Zach Tunbridge, as you can see, watching on Racing.com. Nice and close to me here in our studio in Sydney.
Speaker 8Hello, Zach. Welcome to Sydney, G. This is good here.
Speaker 2I'm glad Mark Hunter didn't get his Uber. I couldn't have been this close to him anyway, but it's an exciting time of year, mate.
Speaker 8Absolutely. This is Everest Day tomorrow. Dogs tonight. Yeah.
Speaker 2Pumped. It doesn't get any better. Let's welcome Mark Hunter. Welcome in the team.
Speaker 9Benny Caluzzi, hello to you. What's going on, boys? How are we? I am very well. I don't think I've been this excited in a long time.
Speaker 2No, it's nearly my favourite day. Like, Derby Day will always be my favourite day, but this is quickly catching up in a way, because, Mickey Gannon, there's something to look forward to every 10 minutes with the Caulfield Cup meeting in Everest Day.
Speaker 10Yeah, there certainly is, G, and you can't wait for tomorrow. Tonight will be great as well, but tomorrow is going to be an absolute cracker. I'm good to see you and Zach. You're very close together, look like. You almost joined at the shoulder there.
Speaker 2Yeah, we are, basically, like you and Paps are when you do your Sydney set on a Thursday night, and thanks to Betsy.com.au. Now, one and the only Dean Watling joins us.
Speaker 11G'day, Dino. Good morning, boys. Yes, you two look good in the studio. Gee, I wish I could be there, but I'm 18th man, just waiting to get a start in the studio. But, no, I'm up in Sydney too, G. The weather's good, and Keying Rising's connection, I'll be hoping that this weather stays like this the rest of the day.
Speaker 2Let's play the music, Paulie Sebastiani, because it's Megaboost time. Now, Zach Cumberidge, you can do the honours, because I said to Brayden, like, he's getting a little bit cocky, he's walking around thinking he's the king these days, and I said, all right then, hero, we'll challenge you. Like, I said, I'll give you, like, give us Autumn Glow or Keying Rising, and I said, no, give us Keying Rising. And he's been able to do that for us.
Speaker 8He has. We were told no because of the unbelievable liability going on for Keying Rising. We'll talk about some of the multis we have going at the moment, but Keying Rising, two bucks on the race card. So, right there, it's $1.50 now, it's two bucks, it's live. You have to go to the race card, you have to be logged in, you will not see it on the homepage. Two bucks, and I've been told it cannot go past 10,
Speaker 2so we've got about 27 minutes. So, five past 10.
Speaker 8Yeah, we'll see, we'll see. And even the higher-ups to Brayden might give us a message.
Speaker 2I don't know what I'll do if I jinx, but if I stop Keying Rising, Mickey Gannon, I might have to retire. Like, if we're getting $2 for the Mega Boost. It'll be one of your greatest feats. It'll be one of your greatest ever. I hope you do, to be honest.
Speaker 10I hope you do, but. Yeah, no, he'll win. $2 is a good price.
Speaker 2Good price, it's a great price. I think it'll, I don't know, what do you think the track will be tomorrow, Mickey Gannon?
Speaker 10Well, we're currently on a heavy eight. There's, you know, potential of more rain, so it'll come down to rain on race day. If we don't get rain on race day, I think we'll be on a soft seven, and we might get to the better side of a seven. I'd be surprised if we got to a six, maybe. It's not really warm enough to get there. Not much breeze around. If we get any rain, I think we'll be racing on an eight, potentially a nine. So I've worked off the better side of a heavy eight. I'm sure Dino's probably around the same sort of areas.
Speaker 9You happy with the Mega Boost here, Benny Caluzzi? I'm all happy with $2 for Keying Rising. You can't not be happy with that, Jay. It's an absolute ripper. I expect it to break the record. Look, I do think it's his stiffest task to date, but I think he'll still win.
Speaker 2All right, then. So up to 10 o'clock. So you've got to go to, you've got to log into your Bet365 account, and you've got to go to the race at Randwick. It's not on the homepage. Correct. So race number seven, the Everest is, and you're getting $2 for Keying Rising for this year's Everest. Now, the top four multi, we need to bounce back here. Absolutely. Is it up yet?
Speaker 8It is up, and there is, we've only been up for two minutes, 641 people have taken it. so far now i'll read them out and then you guys can give them a spruik so it's cloudy scout race two at ramwick regal ambition race seven at corfield tempted in the everest and then skyhook as well at the moment you're getting nine dollars fourteen that'll go down to about eight dollars something in about or the end of this segment but um yeah your regal
Speaker 2ambition i'm regal ambition because i don't know how it misses the top four um in the thousand guineas she'll be back but surely she finishes in the top four mickey gannon you're leading us off with some value there in race two in sydney tomorrow afternoon yeah
Speaker 10we have to be brave because my good mate down there dean watling is trying to attempt it at a dollar 25 so if we kept doing that we'd end up with about a dollar 80 so yeah we're going to go ramwick race to the 10 cloudy scout i think this horse is very very good there on debut for richard and will freeman that was the illawarra grains now you might think well that's garbage form unhinged was the winner of that race who was completely dominant in town on wednesday at rose hill garden so those four ones are completely frank 53 kilos i think she can run top four she lands on speed confident gives me vexie sort of vibes i know the the listeners blew up when we tip vexie but she got the job done i think cloudy scout will as well and
Speaker 2dino you're with tempted from gate number one there shouldn't be a problem there should
Speaker 11there no gee hopefully she doesn't need the chopper but i don't think she will think she'll win the race we'll touch on that soon but i think she'll run top four and like i mentioned gee you can't have race washers in your side you gotta have a halfback and kick to the corners and turn around so i've gone the safe actually this week
Speaker 2that's a very good point you make dino that's why you've been such a successful rugby league player throughout your career you're with skyhook yeah i've gone with
Speaker 9skyhook gee look i think this horse has probably gone to a new level this preparation and he's uh two for two on the heavy track so i think it's a race in two and he should run top four
Speaker 2so nine dollars fourteen that's clearly the best value that you're getting probably double our competitors here at bet three six five so make sure you gamble responsibly had some fun eight eighteen eighteen hundred eight five eight eight five eight i think that's the number yeah one eight hundred eight five eight eight five eight i probably i do when i talk in my sleep i read that number out i say it enough and the taglines yes um so nine dollars fourteen we're getting there with our weekend preview top four multi just quickly before we get stuck into the quaddi there is some punters out there with some big multis going into kane rising zacky tunbridge yeah
Speaker 8so i wanted to i've been hearing about these liabilities and stuff all week from the traders and i came across one multi yesterday that is still live now this customer has one leg to go it is kaying rising he outlaid a hundred bucks a little while ago so his legs were brisbane lions to win which they were bloody lucky weren't they a couple of times i found away the champs uh autumn glow to win the wink stakes yes angel capital to win the sir rupert at eight bucks it was a moral nine dollars for alexander's berev to win the u.s open and rubikina to win the u.s open as well so that was nine bucks so the outlay hundred bucks to return seven hundred and twenty nine thousand and he can cash out he can cash out he has not oh yeah you shouldn't don't know but um so look he's had a couple uh got a few of them going into into this but he's not the only one there's plenty of bets like this
Speaker 2going around would you cash out there was one punter that's cashed out absolutely yeah i would
Speaker 8yes uh yeah i'm a bit soft when it comes to that uh and what would you get
Speaker 2for the cash out
Speaker 8well if you're looking at it i reckon if it's 729 you're probably looking at about 450 475 probably i wouldn't kick back sit back get a get a nice lunch have a feed and just watch the race i don't know you wouldn't no no richard
Speaker 10out of the weekend multi yeah
Speaker 8what are you talking about no but i
Speaker 2wouldn't cash out that bad you could play around it you could work something well benny kaluzzi is
Speaker 8one of the biggest fanboys of all time for cutting rising ben if you had a ticket going for seven hundred thousand and
Speaker 9what do you do what was your cash out sort of rate i'll give you 350 i'll give
Speaker 2you 350 i'll say four all right
Speaker 9four no wouldn't cash
Speaker 2out no no he's starting rising like it's a difference it's a massive like how much like three hundred or
Speaker 8thousand uh yeah so i think i think you probably it would probably be about 450 i reckon right now difference is gee some of some of us have to work three
Speaker 2years for
Speaker 10that yeah well imagine
Speaker 2if you win but like why do you have to think from a negative mindset um and when you start by but when you're a punter this is what you dream of to put yourself into this situation give me the football well these customers are
Speaker 8dead set psychic picking you know the two u.s open winners at nine dollars yeah back obviously followed you in with angel capital liked angel capital but yeah it's one of the great sweats tomorrow for sure i don't
Speaker 2know do you know how i would look at it if i get beat i just done a hundred who cares exactly it's a hundred bucks you spent
Speaker 8right but yeah that's a
Speaker 2winner's mindset
Speaker 10you would hedge around it and miss the one that wins
Speaker 2i reckon yeah yeah spicy martini would burst through the center and knock me off anyway gee would cash out and have it
Speaker 8all on angel capital yeah yeah
Speaker 2it's a good sweat and i
Speaker 8tell you that's just one example of uh one of the multis going and brayden with
Speaker 2that liability still giving us two dollars
Speaker 8uh well brayden how much money has he got then our then our friend above him sort of said absolutely not because he's how he's sick at the moment with how much we've got going on yeah and i said you know what if we're going to be doing it anyway and we're going it's going to be expensive let's just make it a mega boost for half an hour as well and see what
Speaker 2happens so two dollars carrying rising the mega boost you got to ten dollars uh ten o'clock
Speaker 8yeah you got some 10 so 20 minutes what are we at we've taken 1500 slips so yeah have to be logged in you won't see it if you're not and you have to be on the race page
Speaker 2it is one of the i don't think we'll ever beat this mega boost we'll see just um enjoy this moment be present and because this you'll never see that again carrying rising two dollars let's rest yeah um the market he's a dollar 50 carrying rising what price do you think you'll start oh i
Speaker 8have no idea but i just put up the hold at the moment what do you reckon carrying rising currently
Speaker 2like percentage wise compared to other runners i reckon he would be 92 and a half
Speaker 8percent 93 not sure if you're looking at my screen right now i swear to god i haven't looked at his screen 93 is carrying rising tempted he's only holding three and then you're getting 0.8 for ninja that's how you're going to get there so it's going to be a little bit more expensive but it's going to be a little bit more expensive but it's going to be a little bit more expensive but it's going to be fluctuating doesn't it so it's 480 at the moment with us and then you're pretty much straight out to jimmy star and
Speaker 2stuff at 15s all right dino who wins the
Speaker 11everest yeah good question g i think the track's got a big input into the race this year i want to reference last year and build a sort of opinion of that so you look at the two trials that kane rising's have and they suggest last year trial poorly because he didn't have that hit out strongly there in hong kong well he broke the track record he nearly broke the speed barrier there so i think it's going to be a little bit more before he come out i think he's trialed the zach same he got a good fall the one one in a race with no pressure pressure sorry last year in the everest he only put a length at half for him so he gets an inferior set up there saturday and this ground is going to test him he's a sort of a momentum horse and he needs that firmer deck to get rolling in that stride so who does this suit well i like the draw for tempted i think gate one she can position up closer to the speed and she's got the fickle nature and that quick frequency in a stride to handle the wet tracks i think she sort of cuts the corner and gets the front i don't think she's going to be able to keep up with that i think around that price around five dollars i think she is the bet in the race i'm going to take him on on the wet track that's the way i'm playing it unbelievable you got to back your opinion i just think just with this wet track g like his action the way he sort of gets around i just don't think it suits him at all and you're getting half the price of the setup this year compared to last year um i just think gee that price can't chime into it at five dollars tempted i have to back that horse
Speaker 2there you go mickey gannon
Speaker 10well gee the starting point is you take the two dollars for your 20 bucks uh on carting rising that's how we'll start the race um interesting to hear and have you heard from bill baker this week in regards to blue door and cabalas and any potential uh desire for both of those horses to lead and out sit outside leader as you said anything to you this week
Speaker 2yeah they'll both go forward but he doesn't know how quick carrying rising will be i think that if zach wants to put his foot down he'll be able to do what he wants we can't do that we can't do that we can't do that but they'll both be aggressive um they'll both be aggressive there i
Speaker 10don't i don't see a scenario where zach purton really would want to lead especially if we're on a heavy track so why would you want to lead find a rail where it's going to be clearly inferior so i think he'll be looking to be uh at least one off or two off the fence so he might end up three wide no cover which is no issue at ranwick uh that set up getting to that position so look if we're on a i think anything worse than that you now have to just consider what are the betting options around tempted she's a star she's low flying she can definitely bridge the gap on last year i am worried about the inside draw if we're on a heavy purely because it is going to be a no-go zone does that allow um her to sort of get to lane six because everyone's overplays their hand maybe uh she's got no heavy track form so you know there's there's a big push in regards to she'll be on a soft six but she's never gone to a heavy eight so i think we're all just guessing there or hoping uh jimmy star career peaks come on a soft seven ran with 1300 meters he's absolutely low flying natural willer he had to sit outside carrying rising last year he had to do a lot more work than what he wanted to and he still ran third i think he's the easiest place bet you'll see in quite some time we'll get a price um from zach the place but i think he's a great bet and jimmy star the place is a better bet than carrying rising the wind for me what price are we getting uh three bucks 20 bucks yeah i think that's a fantastic fantastic bet i can't see him running anywhere outside of uh the top three i think he potentially is a better winning chance than tempted in the race as well benny it's an
Speaker 9interesting one isn't it it's a bit of a catch 22 for tempted with this wet track yes it might slow the favorite down a little bit but it might also mean she's in the inferior going from barrier one i can't go past kane rising i'm tipping him i think he's probably about the right price i expect him to settle outside lead to blue door but i have no doubts this is easily his biggest challenge to date like the form that tempted is in in her current state he's better than any horses that he faces in hong kong and he's never been on a track this wet before not on race day anyway i think ninja will run well as well but kane rising clearly on top
Speaker 2i think we'll see the best horse in the world prove that once again he's clearly the best horse in the world he'll get the chocolates tomorrow two dollars you're getting with kane rising with that mega boost you've got 15 minutes yeah you need to go to race seven at round week it's not on the home page race seven for that mega boost um g man to look yes yes dino i just want to touch
Speaker 11on the the rail position too i think that's key saturday so we're only we're plus three meters so generally we are in the true which when we do get rain those first four to two to three lanes are inferior but the further we step out with this rail it sort of does mean that those inside lanes aren't as bad as you can suggest for say a track in the true so i think if you reference when red zelg skip through it and a couple other horses they don't tend to get too far off that fence like normally rail tree the sort of down the middle part of the track can be key but the rail is out three meters that inside isn't as bad as punters seem so i'm just referencing that we've tempted obviously k1 i don't think the inside is going to be as bad so hopefully that plays into our hand as well love
Speaker 2it dino love the confidence we're tempted we'll take a break we'll continue on the weekend preview next join the conversation text us

Speaker 2gareth hall welcome back to giddy up this is the weekend preview all thanks to mackers it is great to have your company on this friday it's everest everest eve and caulfield cup eve i'm zacky tunbridge mickey gatton dean watling and benny kaluzzi with me for this weekend preview we just had a look at the everest let's have a look at the next race there at ranwick tomorrow which is race eight and this is the silver eagle here zacky tunbridge who are they backing yeah skyhook's
Speaker 8really popular here it's now 290 um baywalked as well 320 and then we're straight out to decorum and plaintiff for stuff at bigger odds they are only backing two horses here they're taking up nearly all of the hold skyhook and baywalked pretty much around the same price mickey gatton
Speaker 2who wins this weekend? silver eagle yeah this
Speaker 10feedback is interesting here gee so you've got baywalked out in front you've got skyhook uh we'll see probably outside leader night agent not a noted wet he will probably cut across and decorum right in behind them i think uh those three uh baywalk skyhook decorum will fight it out just depends on how wet it is i think you wouldn't want it too much wetter for baywalk that probably is a one of the better bets of the card on a soft six if we happen to end up there and look there is a scenario we do there's absolutely no way we're going to win this year more rain than the wind picks up we might get there you get rain um his chances didn't completely that brings skyhook right into the contention but i think decorum is the one on a heavy eight that i would like to back by stitzel uh just continuing to build i think we're definitely yet to see his ceiling i think he can win the race at a big enough price so i played decorum each way on a heavy deck if we happen to get back to a soft six i think we can back baywalk you know yeah i read it
Speaker 11very very similar to you gano i think decorum's the sneaky one um sort of rising up and then we're going to get back to the top six so i think we can back through the gains and like you said it doesn't have heavy form yet or wet form as such but bread to get through it for sure i think skyhook's obviously the horse to beat though i guess the a1 map should find the one one get off rails get to the right part of the track should be that sort of two to three lane place in the straight and like benny you mentioned before we've got a terrific wet track profile race fitness i just think this is an ideal setup for skyhook benny i think the
Speaker 9only query with skyhook is coming back from the 1500 to the 1300 but that win last start was just completely dominant i think skyhook is probably going to be the best player around a dollar 45 i think he's the one to beat on a soft track look at the boys have hit the nail on the head if this was a soft five soft six 1400 you'd be all over baywalked but um i think i'm going to tip skyhook and i'm very confident he runs the top four for us
Speaker 2all right then so the team keen on skyhook there and the silver eagle they
Speaker 8like decorum too so you can get 275 to run a hole beautiful
Speaker 2um and if you're looking for the mega boost we're carrying rising you'd have a bet 365 account yes get the bet 365 you're not see that you can't shop
Speaker 8anywhere else you
Speaker 2got to go to bet 365 and go to race number seven at roundwick
Speaker 8we have eight minutes and 2400 customers have taken it so far yep
Speaker 2so eight minutes left um i'll take a break we'll come back and we'll continue our look at this everest meeting here with the weekend preview team join

Speaker 2to giddy up great to be with you on this friday morning this is the weekend preview thanks to mackers mackers mcsmart meal get your get four of your favorites for just seven dollars and 95 cents um let's continue on a preview here of this round week meeting we're up to the king charles unfortunately there was a scratching yesterday it was the champion mayor pride of jenny she doesn't take her place so september's what price now autumn glow autumn
Speaker 8glow uh yeah it's like a dollar 25 dollar 30 isn't it very very short but if you like chay wolf and you're logged in you should see four dollars available but then you're straight out to 21 bucks for god's window not much i can give you here mickey gannon can
Speaker 2char wolf pete autumn glow with no pride of jenny in the
Speaker 10race now yeah it does make his task a lot tougher g but i expect just folk to roll forward uh be the uh the leader in the race and you know this horse has got a chance to sort of earn enormous amount of prize money if he can break a few hearts here and run in the top three and i suggest he can so um he'll go out in front he'll sort of build from the 800 meters and look to give a sight and i think autumn glow is going to be and j max going to be the one that has to sort of make up that three or four lengths uh from the eight to the 600 meters that might leave her a little bit vulnerable it may not we'll wait and see i think it'll leave her vulnerable on a heavy eight track and that'll give char wolf and chad scofer every possibility uh to look to get on the back of james probably you know 800 meters it's sort of just a a line of three just folk autumn glow char wolf and then chad will be able to pop off the fence follow james wherever he goes stalks blinkers go on first time this is his grand final i think he can get the job done he's a winner of this race in the past he's in career best form he arguably should have won the epsom uh last week so we can get on two weeks ago so we can upgrade uh that performance there and i think you can get the job done dina i'm happy to back him and lower the colors of autumn glow
Speaker 11it's a good push there gano he's absolutely flying this preparation no doubt it's been the best i'm with autumn glow i just think of the last start effort it's a textbook chris wall at third up peak run here for autumn glow you go back to the autumn you could see there first up she was phenomenal then she had that little regress run in the very elegant only beating aliana and so dillies by 0.4 lengths then she come out and following start in the george ride and put three lengths on them so that screams this setup here and i know the wet tracks come but chris wall suggested prior to jenny in the race but he put the fitness into her rather than having her fresh for the sprint so no pride of jenny but that doubles down helps definitely with this wet track and she won first up on a heavy 10 so i don't think that will stop her tactical versatility um and i think prodigy coming out does hinder the chances of a chow wolf i just worry for him benny that he doesn't have that toe into the race that probably needs to get on the back of jen oh sorry autumn glow and go past him so in all that autumn glow firmly on top of your voice yeah
Speaker 9i agree it does um it's a shame for the race isn't it that pride of jenny here but chow's two big career peaks came in the king charles last year and the champions mile at flemington last year both races prior to jenny tempo just folks still going to go along in a good clip here and he's a very good horse i just think autumn goes a better horse so she's going to be in front of him in the run i think they run the one two same race multi autumn glow to win chow wolf top two a dollar 76 i think that's a cracking
Speaker 2bet that is a great bet dollar 76 i don't know if we could make it a same race multi our mega boost um but carrying rising we've got minutes left for the mega boo sack yeah and
Speaker 8it's already broken the record i think the previous record was she's alibi a little while ago that was two and a half thousand it's 2700 now so a couple minutes left if you want uh on the
Speaker 2race card so you go to the bet 365 app um we can go to the website but it's not on the home page you got to go to ranwick race 7 and you'll see that mega boost there for carrying rising at two dollars and you've got until 10 o'clock yeah brayden's him to go an extra five minutes but um not for carrying rising and the weekend preview top four multi that price of nine dollars will last for another 15 minutes or to the end of the show end
Speaker 8of the show we'll start doing that i think and then yeah it'll go down to eight bucks or something but 1800 are on there backing us in nine to one love it and
Speaker 2time for a quick break on the other side of it we'll finish off our preview of the quaddie legs and also get the team's best bet for the ranwick meeting on every stage straight after this this is giddy apple thanks to bet 365 join the conversation text

Speaker 2Australia. We're in the halfway mark, basically, of the weekend preview today, all thanks to Macca's. Macca's McSmart meal. Get four of your phase for $7.95. And we're always here for Bet365. And Bet365 will be paying an extra 10% of your winnings on all tote bets in every race at Caulfield, Randwick, Doonbin, Morpherville, and Ascot. That's win, place, quinellas, exactors, trifectas, first fours, and quatties. Eligible customers only. Terms and conditions apply. What are you really gambling with? For free and confidential support, visit gamblinghelponline.org.au. So 10% on the tote price there.
Speaker 8Yeah, I think a lot of these other promos I'm seeing are just the win, so we're doing
Speaker 2all exotics. So if you get the quattie and it pays $500,000, you get an extra $50,000. Let's continue our look at this meeting at Randwick. We're up to the last race, and this is an interesting race as well. There's been a good go for this favorite, Sactumbridge.
Speaker 8Yep. Megaboost is down too. That's a record, so good luck to anyone on that. Cross Tasman is the favorite. It's around that 270 mark. I think it got in a little bit short of it. Now 270. Erdijaj is there at sixes. Man of Worth is on the drift, and there's a little bit of coin I saw this morning for the Belmont Gangster.
Speaker 2Okay. Dean Watling, who do you like here?
Speaker 11Yeah, well, if you like Dean Watling, I'm going to go with him. If you look at the decorum early on in the day, you can reference why the punters like Cross Tasman. It was really, really good there late last night. Yes, straws out here. It's sticky, but 1,400-meter Randwick starts not that bad. I think you've got a three-wire line that will eventuate. I dare say there might be some more scratching to make this map look a lot better. I like this setup, and I think you can punch holes in a lot of the other horses. Merrif doesn't go in the wet. Farnacle, 11 to 1,400 meters is a slight query. There's a couple others. So Cross Tasman on top in the last gunner. Yeah, clearly the horse to beat is Cross Tasman.
Speaker 10Cross Tasman, and I think you get the job done in the last, and I'd be shocked if he doesn't start closer to $2, especially if the decorum runs really, really well, which we expect. Ruination, I think, can improve again and be competitive in the race. And Erdijar is a really good horse, Erdijar. She's got a lot of potential. I'm not sure. She'll probably get a start in the race here. Second up, she might even out. I think we'll follow her, but you definitely want to throw in your wider exotics for Cross Tasman, clearly on
Speaker 9top, Benny. Yeah, Cross Tasman's clearly the one to beat. But I'm going to have something on Erdijar. I thought her first up win was the best she's ever been. Come back, new career peak. She matched beautifully, and she does have that win on a heavy track if we remain in that range. So yeah, Cross Tasman, it's the one to beat. But Erdijar, $6 looks a bet to me.
Speaker 2All right, boys. We've got a terrific program there at Randwick outside of the Quaddie Leagues. The big scratching here today is Juju Cabot. So it's had to head to Melbourne. I think it's getting scans ready to go if it wants to go to a Melbourne Cup. So they've scratched from Randwick. It might go around if it doesn't get a start in the Caulfield Cup, in either a Moonee Valley Cup or a Geelong Cup. An anthracite also comes out. Joe Pride will save that galloper for next week. So So You Are is the favourite at $3 now. Dino, are you with So You Are?
Speaker 11Yeah, well, I've just seen that scratching. Juju Cabot is one of the best of the day. So You Are, just got to tick the 2600 metre box. Fitness is there. I don't think there's any query there. Interesting one. Gee, was really good first up with a long layoff. They're giving it gap between runs. The heavy track shouldn't, or the wet track shouldn't be an issue and brings form around Juju Cabot and the Frady. So it's only been three lengths there first up. I think this horse is sneaky good chance. And look at its distance profile, sorry, and it should handle the 2600 metres fine. So I'd probably lead in the way of Klondike over So You Are.
Speaker 2Do you have an opinion there, Mick?
Speaker 10Yeah, well, summed up, Dino. No, I agree. Dino's sentiment there. I think it's three and a four are the clear winning chances in the race. So it has Juju Cabot as the best bet of that. So that's a little disappointing. We'd love to see him somehow sneak into a Corfew Cup
Speaker 2though. You'll need a miracle, I think, Benny.
Speaker 9Yeah, I'm backing him in the Corfew Cup if he gets in the race. I already have had something on. Look, so You Are's the one to beat here, but it won't be a big betting race for me. I think Juju Cabot would have been a $2.50 chance in this.
Speaker 2One man that's so excited about the Kosciuszko is the man next to me here in the Sydney studio, Zach Tunbridge, because he has a share in one of the chances.
Speaker 8A share. Yeah, so shout out to Nathan, who we both bought a bunch of tickets for. For the Kosciuszko, and he was lucky enough to win a slot and has offered 1%. So I've got a little 1% of Lord Remlap, which would be cool if that wins. That's actually been backed. We were 12s on Wednesday. It's coming to eight. Never run on a heavy deck though, so not sure what to expect. I can tell you that backing this morning, not this morning, yesterday, I saw a few bets on Chains of Love. Chidiak is the equal favorite with So You Pence. And then Litzamania is the one that they actually had a crack at as soon as our markets went up. So I think that majority people took $12 straight away. It's now $8.50, but a really open race.
Speaker 2Mickey Gannon loves the Kosciuszko. Yeah, just not backing winners, G.
Speaker 10Band of Brothers is the best wet tracker in the race. And I think if we're on a heavy deck, I think Band of Brothers could just prove too good for them. So you've got Nash, you've got Matty Dunn, they're the king of the highways. They might be king of the mountain here. I think Band of Brothers could win. Litzamania was a big price. Now it's been probably just been chopped in half. I think they bet double that earlier in the week. And the horse with the standing in it, which is Lord Rembrandt, he could just be a superstar, but yet to be proven and happy to just bet to what I know, which is Band of Brothers, Dino.
Speaker 11Yeah, I like this race. I think the three winning chances, Band of Brothers, Litzamania, but the one I really like, So You Pence. So setbacks and penalties means if you do anything outside of this highway system, you're somewhat a victim of your own circumstance or your victim of your own success. So Chidiak's gone up five and a half kilos. So You Pence has only had the four runs in the last 12 months. Gets in really light of the weight. Sweat won't stop this horse. And Matty Dale is an absolute wizard at these highways too. So So You Pence on top. I agree with Gano. Band of Brothers, really good in the Ramone winning first up and over unsuited trips, second and third up and had no luck out the 1200 meters can win. And Litzamania has come back a different horse he's prepped, Benny.
Speaker 9Probably with So You Pence and Chains of Love, it will not be a big betting race for me. I loved So You Pence's win last time around and Chains of Love getting back on a Sydney leg, I think has trailed nicely too.
Speaker 2That's a chance of winning my local chook raffle. Then finding the winner of the Sydney Stakes tomorrow afternoon. Zach, what's the market doing?
Speaker 8Mahuna is the favorite. It's a $6 field though here. So you've got Overpass and Charmstone on the next lines of betting. I know that Overpass, we took a few bets as soon as markets went up, I believe. Yep, they took eight bucks and now it's like $7.50. But this is wide open. I guess if you are having a bet and you want the boost there, we've boosted Overpass to $8.50.
Speaker 9Benny Caluzzi? I'm going to go with Biedmann here, lads, around the $9 mark. I just love what he did first up behind, obviously, Tempted and Headball in the Concord. Second up, I think you just have to forgive that run down here in Melbourne. And he obviously has that massive win on wet ground as well. So I'm probably Biedmann from Graft the Burners. I thought his run was better than it looked last time around. Sort of hit a bit of a flat spot. I'm just worried about he comes into barrier one if the emergencies don't get a start. Mickey Gannon? Thanks, Guy.
Speaker 10I thought it was a completely good start. Suspecting the market, the draw is not ideal. But for a horse that's going to sit back off them and rather home anyway, it's not a complete disaster for the top 100-meter start point. Benny Mellum sticks. And she's the best wet tracker in the race. So mine will be on a rain-affecting tracker to some degree. And she's proven at Royal Randwick as well. So it's fascinating the price on her. Like, I would have thought that she'd be probably close to the $3 if she drew a gate. We're getting around $8 or $9, something like that, from a wide draw. Reference third there in a T.J. Smith behind Jolie Starr, Giga Kick. In behind them was overpass Jimmy Starr, Marzu on a rain-affected track, Magic Time, Briassa, Tentiris. Pretty good horses there. Skybird's a pretty easy bet to have.
Speaker 11Dino? Yep. Benny and I read the same notes. I've just got Grafterburners on top from Beedman. You referenced Grafterburners, Benny. The last two runs, you could tackle in a length or two with even luck. Just hasn't had any luck at all. I think the latest was probably the best. 3.2 lengths off Tempted. I think should have finished closer. Savvy Haley's in there as well. And I like the draw. I know you can look at Gate 2, Wet Track, and think that's a query, but that means they're going to push the button, land on speed, and they're not going to need any luck at all from up there. Beedman, you referenced it perfectly, Benny. Sensational sectionals first up. Forget Caulfield. Back to a rain-affected deck is a big tick. I just hope Zach Burden doesn't get too far back from Gate 11 there, G-Man. All
Speaker 2right then, boys. Your best bets on Everest Day there at Randwick will go Dino, Mick, and then Benny.
Speaker 11Yeah, G, it's a tricky day for a best bet. Juju Kibo was mine, but we'll pivot. The three bets I'm going to have across the program. We're going to go race five in the Kosciuszko. Race five, number 10, Soyou Pence. We're going to roll that into race seven, number nine, Tempted. And then we're going to have a two-bet play race six. We're going to back both Grafta Burners, the six, and the seven, Beedman. G, that's why I'm going to play Everest Day here in Sydney.
Speaker 9I will go with Kaying Rising. No spoil at the price. Hopefully, they let you on for a little bit better. We've already got the $2. Skyhook, if the track stays heavy, eights off seven. He's the one in the Silver Eagle. And in the King Charles, you just take the same race multi. Autumn Glow to beat Chai Wolf for $1.76.
Speaker 10Race three at Randwick. It's two horses that can both get the favorite beating, Polimnia and Vivier. Vivier gets Jay back aboard. Big job upgrade there. I'll take the Quinella in that race, the seven and the four, the four and the seven, to get the job done over unleashing. Race four, the four and the seven, to get the job done over unleashing. Race four, Juaquibu is gone, of course. I think Skybird's about race six, number 13. in the Sydney Stakes. Jimmy's star of the place is the best bet of the day for me. I ran that $3 mark. I think it's a fantastic bet, Gareth.
Speaker 2All right, then. Plenty of text messages coming through now on the Gareth Horsenown text line. You blokes absolutely dreaming if you think Charwolf can beat Autumn Glow, laughable. There's not a hope in hell tempting cuts the corner is in front. They'll ride her dead quiet like they have done the last two starts. Well, Kieran Marr was on the breakfast show this morning here on Essie and Track. He indicated Gate 1 will, because they've been riding her back because of the gate, she can settle closer from Gate 1 there tomorrow. Gannot loves backing winners. With the last year. Yeah, yeah. Gannot loves backing winners and backs Charwolf. Stop it, Gannot. Boys, do you like Charmstone in the Sydney Stakes? Do you give her a chance? I'll just go to you here, Mickey.
Speaker 10Sorry, the question, I just had my phone on mute. What was that? Charmstone. Charmstone in the Sydney Stakes. Let me just bring up Charmstone. So, apologies. Second up here, pretty, I believe it was pretty rock hard fit there. So, I don't know if there's a whole lot of improvement physically. Wet track form is just completely nil. Happy to take on.
Speaker 2All right, then. Darcy wants to know about no ballast horse that I've got to share in. In Sydney tomorrow, she'll love a rain affected track and I think the gate's better for her. But she probably needs to improve a little bit from her last start effort. And Gareth, apparently now Charwolf has a 50% chance to back up in the Cox Plate without pride of Jenny. It's from Jake. Yeah, Joe Pride told Maddy Nevin and Lizzie Jelst this morning that it's gone from 30 to 50 because of no pride of Jenny. He'll love that. If he gets a strong 2,000 metres, he'll love that set up with some pace there with Land Legend and Light Inventory Man in a WS Cox Plate, the quick backup. So, there you go. Hey, we're going to take. On the other side of it, we'll preview the Caulfield Cup meeting with the Weekend Preview team. All thanks to Maccas. This is the Weekend Preview. Maccas McSmart Mill. Maccas McSmart Mill. Maccas McSmart Mill. Your favourites for just $7.95. And for 60 hours only, the Lexus Melbourne Cup Day tickets are just $60. So, the offer ends midnight tomorrow. And get yours now at thevrc.com.au. And we are giving away a double pass to the Melbourne Cup Carnival. So, Paulie Sebastiani, you're taking over here. The best question today on the Gareth's Horse and Hound text line, 049-736-736. We'll be getting a double pass. Please do. The Melbourne Cup Carnival. Send them through.
Speaker 7Send them through. 049-736-736. The audience need to get involved.
Speaker 2So, $60. That offer ends midnight tomorrow for the tickets there to the Melbourne Cup Carnival there with the VRC. Just go to thevrc.com.au. Let's have a look at this Caulfield meeting. We'll be on a good four. Interesting that Sam Bennett's Betty Caluzzi indicated that he thinks that they can put enough water on this track. So, it remains a good four throughout the program.
Speaker 9Oh, that sends a little bit of a shiver down my spine to be completely honest with the G. What is it tomorrow? We're looking at 25 degrees on Saturday. Yeah. Yeah. That means they're going to have to put on a lot of water, which means the inside will chop out a lot. If that is the case, look, they probably want to keep the track somewhat in the good four space for the Caulfield Cup horses to prevent injuries and the like. But I don't think they should be putting too much water. I think we should be racing in a good three, come the quaddie.
Speaker 2All right, then. So, race seven is the first league of the quaddie. Regal Ambition, since I've made her my top four place, she's now into favouritism.
Speaker 8Yeah. So, the boys have made it actually the boost there, too. So, if you like it, it's 420. They've pushed it out to 475 with a boost, if you are that way inclined. Over the bridge at 440, St. Lee Dancer. But I can tell you, it's wide open. Their best backed is St. Lee Dancer. A lot of money on it. $5. And now 460 over the bridge and Regal Ambition. Yes. But, you know, I think it's going to be a good three. The two at odds is Lara Antepova, around that 20 to 1 mark, and Pretty Baby. So, it's a very wide open race.
Speaker 2Since they've moved this Thousand Guineas back to where it should be anyway, it's become a really good race again, and it is a beauty, I reckon, tomorrow afternoon there, Benny
Speaker 9Caluzzi. It's a great Thousand Guineas, isn't it? It would have been great if maybe Global Goal had a come down as well, but Regal Ambition's clearly the horse to beat. I was shocked that she wasn't favourite at one stage yesterday. St. Lee Dancer was. She comes from a very good race. She comes through a race which was fast run. She was elite sectionally late. Look, the map is a little bit tricky from barrier 11, but she'll relish the mile, and I think she'll be good enough to come over the top of them. Pretty Baby, just off the SPs, I think, just has to be a saver. I know it has been a long preparation, but she started $2.10 favourite in front of Regal Ambition last time around. She's now $10. So, I think you just have to have something small on there as well.
Speaker 10Mickey Gannon? Yeah, I think Pretty Baby and St. Lee Dancer are two horses that would be more benefited on a rain-affected track. I don't know. Pretty Baby, Regal Ambition, she's won two of her three career starts. Naturally, you know, the day that we're on, on debut, got beat. Remarkable how. But, looking for the mile, ready to peak here. I think she's clearly the bet, and I expect her to start clear favourites, you know?
Speaker 11Yeah, I agree. I'll make it a line of four. You referenced her sectionals, Ben. You did there, late last start. They were outstanding. They were a horse who's screaming, get me to 1,600 metres and I'll be even better. The gates? Like, query, I sort of wish you were drawn a little bit closer, but I think she'll start with a three in front of her name, no doubt. I can agree on Pretty Baby, SP profile, thrown out the door off one bad Caulfield run. There's two things to that, end of run prep, end of the prep run, sorry, or as Pretty Baby maybe just doesn't get around Caulfield, they're the two things, but you're getting $10 now compared to $2 last start, so then you've got to spec on that and save, but I'm with you, GMM. Regal Ambition, firmly on top.
Speaker 2Thank you, Dino. You can get Dino's tips at betsy.com. Of course, we move on to the Blue Sapphire, and Mark Cunningham was keen, this is his best bet, overexcited. What price are we getting for her now, Zach Tunbridge?
Speaker 8$340, $360 if you logged in and you see a boost, but they are backing quite a few. They've backed Threads at $11s and to run a hole at around that $3 mark, $8 now. Doubt Time for Zara, that's been backed into $480, and even Barracks at $11, but overexcited is just holding the most, but very open again.
Speaker 11Dean Whatling? Yeah, interesting. Interesting race. I thought of all the quality legs. This is one of the tricky ones outside of, obviously, the Caulfield Cup. Overexcited, you sort of leant for that horse, inferior part of the going there on a heavy deck at, obviously, Flemington down the straight, but looks well enough found now into $3.30 around that price. I thought Doubt Time was as good, if not better, in that Flemington run. Yes, going to get out the back, flashing light home, but I like this section. It's probably got to the best part of the track, but tricky race. Gano, Doubt Time on top. Yeah, there's plenty of speed here, so looking
Speaker 10for horses that can run over the top. I'm overexcited. I'll forgive last start. Doubt Time right there as well. They're the two for me in a race that looks like there's plenty of pressure up on speed.
Speaker 9Benny? I agree with Mark Hunter. I thought overexcited is one of the better bets of the day. Look, I don't think there's any other horse in this race that could match it with Sotono Glow. That's exactly what she did two starts back. We've seen what Sotono Glow has gone on to achieve. I think you just have to forgive last start. I know Doubt Time got past her late, but she rated well down there, and maybe it's just the setup wasn't good enough. So, I think fourth up here, she'll be in the three-wide running line and go bang.
Speaker 2All right, Ben. So, keen on overexcited there, Betty Caluzzi. You're about to preview now the Caulfield Cup with the weekend preview team, of course, here for Bet365. And also, Mac is introducing the new Nashville Chicken Range, 100% Aussie chicken with bold southern flavor. It's an interesting market for this year's 150th running of the Caulfield Cup, and it's the WA star. That remains the favorite here with Bet365, Zachy Tunbridge.
Speaker 8Yep. On top is Cosmic Crusader, $5.56 if you logged in and see that. Zaran is $8. Wine Dark Sea, $8.50, and St. George, $8.50. They're the only ones in single figures. In terms of a hold, though, Cosmic Crusader is holding 45%, and then you're straight down to Zaran, which is $8.50. But look, another wide-open race. I hope A wins. It's had a little money at odds.
Speaker 2There you go. Mickey Gannon, who wins the Caulfield Cup?
Speaker 10Well, it's you, Caboo. Got this. You started in the Cup, which seems a miracle, but gee whiz, you'd be on the phones, wouldn't you? Because if he starts, I think he'd win, and he'd be one of the better bets you've seen in quite some time. Assuming he doesn't go around, Amphijar, Barrier 1, I think that's a positive, can hold a four position. Wine Dark Sea, you'd imagine they have to come across, albeit it might be a better Flemington horse, has ability, and Zaran just maps to absolute perfection. I hope A wins. I wish she drew better. I still think we get the right price to find out for her. I think a dry $2,400. With decent enough pressure, it gives her an opportunity. So if I'm betting prospects go, I hope A wins. Will be a bet. I think Amphijar can win. I think Wine Dark Sea can win. I think Zaran can win. And I wouldn't shock to see Kingswood go forward and give an enormous sight in the seven-day
Speaker 9backup, Benny. It's a good Caulfield Cup. Look, it probably lacks a bit of class at the top, but luckily we got Cosmic Crusader. I think he's very much a rightful favorite in this. I don't think there's any other horse in this race that could have won a Turnbull. He comes back two kilos off that. The only negative. is whether he's going to stay at the 2,400 meters, I'm not Worried about the gate, not worried about a dry track. He's the one to beat. I agree with Giano. If Juju Kebo had been here, 52 kilos, we'd have been really keen. The other one I'll have something on is Amphijar, the international. He won his first start at 2,400 metres last time around. And he's got a bit of change-up speed, which I think you need in Australia. He'll only be better over the 24th, second time around, and can go forward.
Speaker 11Dino? Yeah, I cannot buy into this narrative G of a query at 2,400 metres. For Cosmic Crusader or worry about him getting the trip. If you're going to have a basis run or an opinion based off his last start run, the Turnbulls run incredibly quick. They go on 10.6 lengths faster than average to the 8. Then they're poured on the pressure another two lengths on average from the 8 to the 6. And then he's produced sectionals 5.4 lengths and 2.3 lengths faster than average from the 6 to the 4 and the 4 to the 2. So if there's any query about running out a strong 2,400 metres, they get thrown out the door referencing that Turnbull. I think history suggests the best horse more often than not wins this race, regardless of gait. So I think seven of the last 16 winners have drawn 10+. I think he blends in the three-wide line. There's good pressure on in this race. I think that's going to be where you want to be part of the track. I think they've mightily stubble upon a 2,400-metre beast here in Cosmic Crusader, and you're still getting a very, very generous price. So surely when it went on the weights, I think he wins the race, and he's a great bet on the car.
Speaker 2He just needs a good ride early doors from Pike, he does, doesn't he, Dino?
Speaker 11Yeah, we've seen that Pike has probably figured him out. He's gone forward, he's gone back now. So I think Pike is full of confidence, and that's key. I think if he comes here off a race where he maybe got it wrong, G, he'd be in two minds. But Pike is full of confidence now. He's shoved all the four-man, all the speed maps where the sun doesn't shine, and he's ready to go. I think the other big tick, G, he gets around Caulfield. He's already ticked that box. A lot of horses don't. So I like the draw. I like him out wide. I think clear running, he gets the best of our track. I think he feels within. Horses, he's not that explosive turn of foot horse. He sort of builds into his races. So I'm throwing out the narrative he doesn't get 2,400 metres, and I'm throwing out the narrative that the wide draws are playing at gate.
Speaker 2I love it, Dino. Let's have a look at the Tristarch Stakes, the final event at Caulfield there on Saturday in Concord Connie. What price is she now, Zach?
Speaker 8Yeah, three horses I'll mention here. Concord Connie is $2.60 if you're logged in, and you can see $3 with a boost there. Merigold is the other one that I'll mention. It's into $7. Could have got $12 yesterday. And then one at odds. This is Bewitchery. Looks like they took $23, even higher. $23 and $34 is now $16.
Speaker 2All right, then.
Speaker 10Mickey Gannon? The best version of Concord Connie blows these away. What do they do from that draw? Do they come across with road to Arataki and Shadabah? We'll know our fate early days. I think Jess Stanley rolls the dice to give these horses the best opportunity, and I think that she can definitely win the race if they go forward. If they go back and it becomes a low-pressure race, it wouldn't shock the sea like the Shadabah, sort of just steal it from up on speed. So I'll be back. Concord Connie just being the best horse, and hopefully we get a bit of intent there from Jess Stanley.
Speaker 11Do you know? Yeah, no-bet race for me, but I think you're the nail on the head. If Concord Connie, if you do that horses going forward, Ganno would be probably a lot easier to take that price. I think if it does, that wins the race, but no-bet for me, Benny.
Speaker 9I think she's going to settle in the second half of the field, and I think she's going to round them up. The fact that, you know, we're going to have this track water means the inside's probably going to be off by the time we get to round. Race number 10, I don't think she got around Mornington at all. She was crabbing around the turns, getting on her wrong leg, but once she straightened up, she was pretty good. Up to the 1,400 metres looks ideal. Look, she'd be better at Flemington on a big track, but she's still the one to beat. She's still a bet for me, and the market expects a lot of her. I started $1.30 last time around, and she's currently $17 in the Empire Rose Market.
Speaker 2All right, then. That is interesting with the Empire Rose Market because you've got Pride of Jenny that is the favourite still, but she's had this setback now. So she won't have another run before the Empire Rose. Let's get your tips and your best bets outside of the quaddi-legs there at Caulfield. And don't forget, with Bet365's stakeback offer in races one, two and three on Caulfield Cup Day, if your runner doesn't win, you'll receive a bonus bet back. That's right. Miss the winner and you'll receive a bonus bet back. Head to the rewards page in your Bet365 app to opt in. For free and confidential support, visit. Gamblinghelponline.org.au. Mickey Gatton, who do you like at Caulfield outside of the quaddi-legs there tomorrow?
Speaker 10Yeah, I think we carry my train for less in race one and get the job done number two. In race five, Willard Dow sets up really well here. Granted, he has had a crack at this race previously. He's been set for these three trials, 1,400 metres first up, and he's got dry track first up form that is good enough. to win this race. I think he could back that horse on an each-way basis. My best bet on the day is actually going to be race six, number eight, Hidden Motive here for Rachel King and Nathan Doyle. You're getting around a $9 mark. I think it's a sensational bet. Another horse that's well and truly proven to fire on dry deck and we get that opportunity. But more importantly, not just firing on dry deck, firing is stirred up into a preparation. He's got under the radar here, punters. Have something, race six, number eight, Hidden Motive. Good bet, Dino.
Speaker 11Yep, reading off the same script there with Willaudo, Gano, hashtag Sydney form. I'm going to go against you, race six, number two. I think Cavalier Girl sets up beautifully. I think they've got to make up a couple of lengths to catch up to that. And outside of that, Jay, I thought Cosmic Crusader was the best anywhere on that card.
Speaker 2Thanks to Betsy.com.au for Dean Watling's tips there.
Speaker 9Best at Caulfield, Benny Caluzzi. I think JJ's mistruth should just win race three. She brings a group on form. She's got a carry of the 61, but she'll be too good. I do like overexcited in race number, eight, and also in the last Concord, Connie. I agree with Dino. Cavalier Girl, the only query is going back to a dry track. And in the Caulfield carp, Cosmic Crusader is, I think he's over the odds at 550, and MFJAR, the pick of the internationals.
Speaker 2And Zachy Tunbridge, who have been the best back horses there in Sydney and Melbourne tomorrow.
Speaker 8So in Sydney, Benny just mentioned, sorry, in Melbourne, JJ's mistruth has had a lot of love. Cavalier Girl as well, and obviously the favourite in the last. Of Sydney, look, they've sort of been holding off a little bit. I know that I've said how much our hold is on carrying, rising and stuff at 93%. They've sort of steered away from the King Charles. There's not much going on there with $1.30, but like Ben said, you can do a same race multi and try and get $1.76 or so. Skyhook, I know, has been well supported. And also in race number four, So You Are now with the scratching of Juja Kibo. So You Are has been popular.
Speaker 2On the Garrett's Horse and Hound text line, what are the boys' thoughts on Saffron Vale there? I'll get your thoughts on that horse there, Mickey Gannon.
Speaker 10Yeah, absolutely. Just bringing that up now. Race number three? Race number two. Race two. Yeah, yeah. Jaymack aboard. Race two, guys? Yeah. I think it improved. Well, it works pretty good today. So she's just continuing to improve race by race. Look, she's probably the right price. I think she potentially brings the strongest form lines. Mats well. So can definitely win. $2.80. It's probably about right. At a mark $3.20, you've got to pay some Jaymack packs, of course. I was with Cloudy Scout to run top four and think can be competitive in the race. Calamari is also a good chance in the race as well. So beatable, but yeah, probably the right price to find out.
Speaker 2Do you give Pericles a chance
Speaker 9in the Sydney Stakes, Ben? Absolutely not. I don't think he turns his legs over fast enough for 1,200 metres. I think he's more a 1,400 metre miler.
Speaker 2We'll ask a very good question, especially with Bet365, because on top of that, on top of the Quaddie dividend, you'll get an extra 10%. With Bet365. And he says, Hey fellas, given the Randwick track and a few short favourites, what is the best way to play Quaddie on this type of day? We'll go to you here with this question, Dean Whatley.
Speaker 11Yeah, gee, well, you wait until sort of race morning, I think, and then figure out what this track's doing. The luxury of the Quaddie as well, you can place it throughout the day. So you can wait and see how the lanes play early on. But it's interesting. Obviously, the first leg of the Quaddie is the Everest. I just play it like normal, G. Back horses that you think are fit in form and going to get through a soft deck. That's the way I play it. But you can maybe wait races one and two and see what the track actually is off times.
Speaker 2Mickey Gannon, do you like Treasure of the Moment? Do you give her any possible chance in the Caulfield Cup?
Speaker 10No, absolutely not. I've been after for quite some time, G.
Speaker 2All right, then. Pumped for racing tomorrow. So confident about the chances of Stretton Ruler. Look who he's raced against as a two-year-old. I'd love to be considered. I'd love to be considered for tickets to the Melbourne Cup Carnival. All right, Michael. I reckon you'll have to be in the running there. Morning Legends. If you guys are giving Beedman a chance in Sydney, how about Hidden Motive? Frank, well, they are reading your mind. They're all over Hidden Motive, the boys. Great show. Going to be the best Caulfield Cup since the Japanese filled the stands for Lise Griseau. Wasn't that the Cox Plate? Do you know why Blake Sheen doesn't have a ride for the Cup? Well, he did have, Ollie. He was on Royal Supremacy. But Kiramar, I think, double booked. He booked Jamie Spencer and Blake Sheen. And he had to. It's like Dino choosing two girlfriends. He had to tell which one he was taking out to dinner. And he had to ring up and say, Blake, I'm sorry. He's taken the party animal out. Yes. Yes. Hey, gents. Given a bit of doubt around the depth of the Melbourne Cup field, what do you think of the chances of the horses coming out of the Cox Plate and doing the double again this year? That's from Jonesy. I don't know if there'll be too many Melbourne Cup horses going to the Cox Plate. Maybe. If it's on the quick backup after the call, Caulfield Cup um boy boys yeah she's not going to the Melbourne Cup Dino yeah but they still pay it
Speaker 10up gee you know it's remarkable isn't it she's not going
Speaker 11there but they said very elegant wasn't going to go there too
Speaker 10they did not going there why do they keep paying
Speaker 2she might win by four yeah just to keep their options open um boys name me a better value ticket than Melbourne Cup day 60 bucks and you get to see Robbie Williams and Amazing Racing 100 percent and you've got about 60 hours to get that offer because it ends tomorrow midnight I think we might be doing a
Speaker 8six horse challenge on cup day as well how is the
Speaker 2six horse challenge going well we
Speaker 8only brought it back last week and it was a bit tough with land legend and stuff winning but I think there was 16 customers who got four from six and they got 625 bucks so no brainer if you are using the app and you are a customer what race is this week 789 Sydney and Melbourne so if you are an existing customer uh jump on there I'd do it after scratchings tomorrow but um yeah if you get some
Speaker 2five from six yeah it's been um as I said my mum's got a bet 365 account because of that well there
Speaker 8were some amazing wins in the autumn crazy wins people didn't even know they'd won until Sunday they didn't check their account and they see a hundred
Speaker 2grand in there and four out of six how many people got that last year that was
Speaker 8the best last week yeah 16 people got it and they got 625 bucks so that's a
Speaker 2good day at the

Speaker 2Hall welcome back to giddy up we're racing at a Taki and Ellerslie this weekend and you can wake up with New Zealand racing and kick your day off with the Kiwi bet what's gambling really costing you for free and confidential support visit Gambling help online.org.au Jane Ivel hello to you you there Jane hello hello can you hear
Speaker 12me yeah I can hear you
Speaker 2loud and clear how's things
Speaker 12yeah really well thank you looking forward to a incredible weekend of racing uh particularly here in Melbourne and then of course the Everest in Sydney but two nice meetings in New Zealand as well and a couple of stakes races at Ellerslie so plenty to look forward
Speaker 2to you take it away with your best bets then in New Zealand this weekend
Speaker 12Jane well we're kicking off pretty early in New Zealand race one at Ellerslie which is a Benchmark 65 over the 1200 I've got convinced on top runner number seven lines up fresh and has had a couple of trials the most recent was pretty good run a really slick time um nice winner on debut and then stepped into stakes level and wasn't far off Belle Chevelle which is pretty good form for this sort of race contested uh NZB Kiwi but she was a little bit weakened behind in her three-year-old campaign um so hopefully she's come back a little bit stronger and the trials suggest she might have so I just think she's got the best CV for this race she goes on top Centurial um was very good first up and can go on with it and Los Santos blinkers go on and he probably deserves a win so seven three one and two and race number one I'm tipping in one of the stakes races at Ellerslie as well and that's the Swayness Stakes over the 1215 meters Platinum attack uh comes back in grade after contesting the group one placer plate in behind well written that was at 1400 meters he was a bit fresh he over raced did a few things wrong I really like him back to 1200 meters here it's his preferred trippies won five of his eight careers sort of wins at 1200 and again, I think considering he brings the best figures into this race and he's been competitive at Group 1 level, coming back to this sort of grade really suits him. So happy to have him on top. Chatelle Rose is one that has been pretty impressive this preparation. She's unbeaten. She sort of keeps lifting when the bar's raised and she might be able to do that again at stakes level, but she deserves an opportunity at stakes level 196 and 2. And then going to Otaki, and I'm going race 1 at Otaki 2, so it's all over and done with pretty early on Saturday for me. Magnate, number 11 on top, debuted at Ellerslie in a really strong three-year-old field. Things went wrong from the barrier. He got back, jockey road for luck up the inside and got absolutely no luck at all. He was a little bit green, but he really didn't get an opportunity to have a crack at them at any stage. He trialled up really smartly before that. He goes around second up on his home track, doesn't have to travel. So I think that he can completely transform his form around, happy to be with him 11, 12, 1 and 2 at Otaki.
Speaker 2Beautiful. Looks like it's a day that we're getting nice and early to kickstart our punting day on one of the great punting days on the Australian racing calendar. Jane, who's your tip in the Caulfield Cup?
Speaker 12Caulfield Cup, it's a tough race. I think it's a very open race this year. I think Cosmic Crusade has been exceptional. I'd love to see him continue on. He's winning. Of course, the story around Andrea Leake's pretty cool, too. Picking up her first Group 1 win with him. And I've got to support those horses that have the NZ suffix next to their name. So Cosmic Crusader. Look, I thought a Hopey Wins run the other day was pretty good for a Caulfield Cup trial as well. I know Australia hasn't probably seen the best of her now that she's a four year old stepping up to sort of that next level. She was very good in an Oakes. I'd love to see her win a Caulfield Cup. She always looked like a Caulfield Cup horse. So look, I'm hoping she can do it. I'm hoping she can do it. I'm hoping she can go an improved race as well for the Yulong Camp. But I think it's a pretty open Caulfield Cup.
Speaker 2Yeah, bring it on. It's going to be a great race. And are you with the Kiwis in the Everest?
Speaker 12Of course, Kaiying Rising, wasn't he? Best sprinter in the world from little old New Zealand. So I know that there's a few concerns over the weather that they've had in Sydney over the last few days. But look, granted, he's better on top of the ground. They've all got to get through a wet track. And look, aren't Kiwi horses renowned for getting through a wet track? So I think he'll be okay. And he's got Zach Purden in the saddle. I think he's a phenomenal horse. It's been so exciting watching him race. And it's fantastic that they can bring him down here and we get to see him.
Speaker 2Good on you, Jane. Bring on this day tomorrow. We'll find you a few winners in New Zealand nice and early. Race one, number seven at Ellerslie and Otaki. Race one, number 11. Then we'll back Platinum Attack. Race seven, number one at Ellerslie. Have a great day, Jane. Thanks for that. You too. Thank you. There's Jane Ivell. Country Corner coming up next with Josh McGuinness. Time for Country Corner with Josh McGuinness. It's got the highlight reels and action-packed moments right in front of you. Country Racing has got it all this spring. Enjoy live entertainment, action-packed racing and more. Country Racing has got it all. It was one hell of a weekend, they tell me, last weekend. As I say hello to you, Josh.
Speaker 13It certainly was, Gareth. Good morning. Great to be with you. It was a cracker of a weekend last week. We had three country cups headlined by, of course, Manangatang last Saturday. And what a day it was out on course. 3,000 people there enjoying. It was a party and it was fantastic. The Big Shed was rocking well into the night. And yeah, a terrific day at Seymour last Sunday as well. There's a couple of nice winners, Jay. Educator was a nice winner for Kieran Maher. Expect her to go back to town next start. And the listed Seymour Cup worth $200,000. Weimark bet a really good field coming down the outside for Gavin Bedgegood, who's flying at the moment. And yeah, he's a bit of a Country Cup star, Weimark. So congrats to all connections there. But we look forward to a huge weekend this weekend.
Speaker 2Horsham Cup, we've got the piano bar enclosed. Yeah, one of the great entertainments is a piano bar. And you can go to Horsham Cup. And you can have some fun. You can sing along and back a few winners, hopefully in the Wimera.
Speaker 13Absolutely. You said it best, Jay. The piano bar at Horsham Cup Day, that's going to be terrific on course. But a really good day. This is a club that's won the Community Club of the Year a couple of times in recent memory. Horsham, they do it so well. And an excellent day in the Wimera region this Sunday. The $65,000 Horsham Cup is the feature on an eight race program. We've also got $100,000. Heat of the Melbourne Cup Carnival Series as well, where the winner is exempt for the half-million-dollar race on Oaks Day. But the Cup itself is a really good race. At the top of the market, we'll have the Penn Dragon, who's been mixing it with really good company over his last few starts. He's been on the heels of the likes of Cote Atlantique and Run, Harry, Run, Ten Commandments. So that good sort of level. And he drops back in grade. He's going to have to shoulder 61 kilos. But with Harry Coffey in the saddle, he might be worth a play at around $4.50. But a nice field. Miracle Spin won the Menangatang Cup last week on the quick backup for Andrew Bobbin. And Paul Pruska's going to have a pretty strong army for his hometown feature as well. Budget Boy might be the best of his three chances there. But a terrific card at Horsham. Plenty of live entertainment and activities on course. It's a ripper day out there.
Speaker 2And a Voca Day or Voca Cup Day tomorrow as well, where some of the biggest, biggest stables are represented there at a Voca tomorrow.
Speaker 13Yeah, and that's been the case the last couple of years. It's great to see the big stables heading out and supporting these country meetings. And that's absolutely the case at a Voca Cup Day tomorrow, nestled in the beautiful, the Pyrenees wine region. So if you're looking for something to do this weekend, that's a cracking part of the state. Maybe booking a winery lunch tour or the Calcuttas on tonight in town as well at the pub. And an excellent day tomorrow. There's about 600. People camping on course at a Voca tomorrow. So, yeah, no need to worry about accommodation. Pack your swag and away you go. But Kira Marr saddles up Omnic, who's won three of 29. Bit of a bridesmaid, but we'll, we'll get its chance tomorrow. And great to see Taze Weir with a couple of runners. She's going to have one of the fancies in Skellextrix, who was last seen behind Aethelwulf and King of the Sea in Sydney. So. Has been, been running around a pretty good company and drops back in grades. So good luck to Taze and an excellent day at a Voca tomorrow.
Speaker 2And a beautiful part of the world is yay. And they've got their big meeting, their country meeting, our picnic meeting this weekend.
Speaker 13Yeah, they do. So we kick off officially the picnics season tomorrow. They're a terrific day out, a day at the picnics. You can BYO your food and drink and take anything you like. And there'll be plenty of bucks and hens parties at yay tomorrow. That'll be the case at Benton. Bendigo as well. I've got a beach party on course at Bendigo tomorrow, of course, with six meetings across the state. They're racing everywhere this weekend, but, um, no good luck to yay. They, they do a terrific job and the picnic circuit. That's the heartbeat of the country circuit. You can dress up or dress down. There'll be a heap of parties on course. And, um, yeah, good luck to the yay racing club who start their season tomorrow.
Speaker 2And we can't wait to get to Geelong on cup day. That's coming around pretty quickly and golden ticket into the Melbourne cup. We've got a lot of good news for you this year, if you win the Geelong cup. So that will be a big day. They do a wonderful job at that club and they will pack out the joint there.
Speaker 13Cause the weather looks pretty good. No, absolutely. It's stark contrast to last year when of course they had to be postponed after three races on the day. They come back the following day and Torrens, they're no booked his spot in the Melbourne cup, but, uh, it looks to be a terrific Geelong cup field this year. Joseph O'Brien is going to have a couple of runners targeting there, the likes of small fry and even, I'm not sure how to pronounce it. But, uh, Cazilia. It's the current Melbourne cup favorite defiantly a couple of starts back. So might be one to watch trying to sneak their way into the cup field, but the golden ticket into the Geelong cup, it's going to ensure it's a terrific race and 500,000 up for grabs as well. It's, it's now, uh, such a wonderful race and a really storied and his, uh, story tradition with the Geelong cup, the likes of media puzzle, American and June and coming from overseas to use this as a bit of a launching pad into the Melbourne cup and complete the double. So. Uh, that's, uh, that's absolutely a chance this year, but a big day ahead at Geelong next Wednesday.
Speaker 2Yeah. Bring it on. I think I'm going to, I'm going to have a chat to Shane Bennett, but I might give away two more tickets to the Oz, uh, Oz rental, Oz equipment, rental marquee and the ultimate hotel marquee there on Wednesday at Geelong. It's the best marquee to be part of as well. Hey, good on you, Josh. We appreciate your time as always.
Speaker 13Good on you, Jay. Good luck up in Sydney. Big weekend ahead.
Speaker 2Yeah. Josh McGuinness. Thanks to CRV. We'll take a break. We'll come back. We'll come back, uh, with Josh from Horsham with his tips in country, Victoria, this weekend, plus Heath Pope looking at more for bill.
Speaker 1Join the conversation text us on 0 4 double nine 7 3 6 7 3 6 live across Australia.
Speaker 2Welcome back to giddy up all things to bet 3 6 5. It's been a busy show. And we're going to come home, um, flying here today. because you've got a host of guests. We've got Dean Evans, Lincoln Moore, Chris Nelson, Heath Pope, Terry Layton and Peter Anthonis to finish off Giddy Up on this Friday. And Shane Templeton, the legendary journalist, is going to tell us about his favourite moments regarding the Caulfield Cup as we celebrate the 150th running of the Great Race tomorrow afternoon. But Josh from Horsham kicks off the final hour with his tips, thanks to CRV, across a big weekend of racing in country Victoria. Hello to you, Josh.
Speaker 14G'day, Gareth. How are you doing this morning?
Speaker 2Good, thanks, mate. It's a great time to be alive. Where do we start with your plays?
Speaker 14Wonderful, wonderful weekend of racing. So we've got a couple at Avoca tomorrow. We're going to go early doors. Race one, number two, Lollies Galore. Now, except that elsewhere, but if they go here, I think you'd be knocking over his maiden. He was good at packing them in sale before. Went out to 2,000 metres at Ballarat and it battled on okay in what's clearly the strongest form race, I think, coming into this. It draws for every possible, back to 18.60. I just think it looks the winner if they go there. I can't promise a price, but we can kick off with a winner, I think.
Speaker 2And then what have you got after that?
Speaker 14Yeah, we'll go to the Cup. We'll go Avoca Cup, number one, Rafa Tak. Three runs this time. They've been just okay. I thought the latest was probably a little bit better with the leader-dominated race and not much could make ground. So I'm not reading too much into that. That was a lot stronger than what it's going to make. Yeah, it's ready to improve now, defaulting to the best horse in the race and, importantly, draws well around that Tide Avoca track. So, number one, Rafa Tak in the Cup. Beautiful. And then Horsham Cup on Sunday. We're going to have one in the Cup there as well. We're going to go number one, the Pendragon, who's fitter for recent racing and has his first go at 2,100 metres here. Like Avoca, it's important to draw well at Horsham, and it does. H copy rides. Look, he generally mixes in much stronger company than this. He's running the gold nugget. Last start is well and truly good enough to be taking care of the Horsham Cup this year. So, toppy in the Horsham Cup, the Pendragon.
Speaker 2Beautiful, mate. You sound confident this weekend. Anything else for us, or that'll do us?
Speaker 14No, I don't think so. It's just that it's a good weekend to watch some really good racing. There's probably some value in the Caulfield Cup and just happy to watch the Everest.
Speaker 2Go and get them, mate. Thanks for that. Thanks, G-Man. There's Josh from Horsham. Now, Heath Pope joins us. He's done the form for us at Morphinville tomorrow afternoon. How are you to you, Popey?
Speaker 15Yeah, good morning, Gareth.
Speaker 2Where do we start with your plays, mate?
Speaker 15Mate, good program here. I think we can make some money. We're going to start off in race three, the Hillsmith Stakes. Now, this is always invariably a pretty open race, but I've lobbed on number five, Contry, mate. Now, this horse actually, it displayed some staying promise last campaign. It actually won a couple of races against older opposition. I think that reads pretty strong for this. Now, none of the rivals in this race have previously run over the mile, so I think that's also another tick. Didn't have much luck in that first up run after an eight-week freshen-up last start. Pretty similar line-up here, but will only improve. I've got a rate of the $4.20 chance, and last time I looked, bet $3.65 were $9, G.
Speaker 2Yes. I like that. That's a good value play to kick off proceedings there, Popey. What else have you got for us?
Speaker 15Mate, we've got some good ones. We've got some more. Now, we're going to race four, number four, Capulet. Now, listeners, this is your clear leader. Now, also, again, this horse will be going around near double-figure odds. Last time I looked, it was about $9 again. Now, it's dropping sharply in grade here. The last couple of starts have been against Benchmark 78 and 80. Contry has led clearly in those races. Now, also, not is it just dropping in grade, but it's also dropping. Dropping back to 1,800 metres, I really think that's a significant plus here, G. Also, 54.5 kilos. This is going to take a lot of catching. This is not a strong field. I've got a rate of the $4 chance, equal top pick, mate, and, again, we're getting $9.
Speaker 2Yes. So, that's Capulet, number four, $9 and $3 there, Popey.
Speaker 15Yes, mate. Okay, we're going to get some more value here. Race five, number two. Arruga Mama. Now, admittedly, form doesn't look crash hot, G, and this is, I can see this is D-Day. However, I think it's a major positive stepping up to its right trip here, 2,500 metres. Also, it will settle a lot closer in the run. Gets in terrific after the claim, 55.5 kilos. Now, just to put into context about how well this mare gets in, this time last year on Benchmark 84, this horse won a very similar race to this by over six lengths. Now, I couldn't believe they went up about $10. I think it's about $7 now, G. I've got a rate of $3.75. Yes, I've got a rate of $3.75 chance, mate.
Speaker 2So, that's race five, number two.
Speaker 15Let's go to the last race. Now, I've logged on race nine, number two, Bar Cash. Now, this is an open race, and I tried to find a race that was a little bit more competitive. I tried to find many reasons why not this horse couldn't win, and I just think she's a class above those now. Put a line through that first up run. She had genuine excuses. Second up form has placed three from three. Just gets a really good map here, mate. Makes her own luck. Getting in after the claim, Benchmark 70, I honestly think this horse is a, you know, it's a borderline black type horse. Last time I looked, Benchmark 76, 265, or $4.40. I've got to rate it a $3.80 chance. Also, please include Star Sirius and Jazz Affair as your value plays in this race in all your multis.
Speaker 2Love your work, Popey. I've been enjoying your website, sectionaledge.com.au. That's sectionaledge, one word,.com.au. You provide all of the markets there for those metropolitan meetings, especially in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney. You can sit there and you can analyse your markets and then find the value. And then you punt accordingly. It's a terrific site. You've been on fire as well of late. It will be a perfect tool for anyone out there that are looking forward to having a punt tomorrow. So, sectionaledge.com.au. And it's up and running now for just over two weeks. And I think the results speak for themselves, Popey. So, well done.
Speaker 15Yes, mate. Thank you, G. Yes, we are. We're coming off a bit of a fill-up on Wednesday. So, good value for money, yes.
Speaker 2And I think out wide for us.
Speaker 15Oh, mate, I've got a few over at Caulfield. Very keen. I don't think anything beats the best value play of the day. I think Treasure of the Moment in the Cup is an outstanding play. I've got a rate at a $10 chance. Mate, I could rattle off a big spiel here about that horse, but I'll save it for the preview show tomorrow. But Treasure of the Moment, real keen in the Caulfield Cup.
Speaker 2There you go. You're the first one I've heard. That's given her a good push, Treasure of the Moment. So, yeah, we'll have a chat about this on Winners tomorrow. Anything else before we let you go?
Speaker 15Okay. Well, okay. I can't let Pretty Baby go and race seven. Now, I can see the firmer going is not going to be ideal. However, the market says she's only a 10% chance of winning. I mean, you're kidding. There's totally disrespect that this horse is a lot better chance than that. Admittedly, the firmer going. It's not ideal, but Pretty Baby, I'm keen on. I do think race four, number 13, after the scratching of Calamari Ring, I think I Am Aria is really, it's going to be very hard to hold out. And I think at the $4.40, I think at the moment, I think that reads really well, Gareth.
Speaker 2All right, beautiful. You go and get them, Popey. And that website, sectionaledge, one word,.com.au. And away you go, become a member and win some money, Popey.
Speaker 15We're doing well, mate. And I've already found some very cluey punters, mate, that have jumped on board and, you know, jump on board. It's a good value product, rated markets. What are you getting? It's less than a dollar a race, mate. So it's good value for money.
Speaker 2Good on you, Popey. Have a good day. Thanks for that.
Speaker 15Thanks, mate. Good luck, everyone.
Speaker 2Big weekend. There we go. It is a big weekend. Heath Pope from sectionaledge.com.au. Chris Nelson, thanks to Racing Queensland, sent through his tips. He's a little worried about the weather tomorrow, but here they are. Race three, number one, Hopper each way. Race six, number seven, he's true blue each way at Doonbin. Race eight, number 12, Propaganda. And he's with the Golden Strand in the last race, race 10, number four. We'll find you some winners at Ascot tomorrow afternoon with Peter Anthonis. And Terry Leighton next. You can tune in to Racing WA TV on 7plusandracing.com, your ultimate destination for everything racing in the West. Let's welcome in the team here to preview. It's a great team. Great days racing there at Ascot. The rhythmic stakes. And the Crawford Stakes, the two features, the Eurythmic at Group 3 and the Crawford Stakes at listed level. Hello to you, Terry Layton.
Speaker 16Good morning, Gareth. Yeah, good morning, listeners. Yeah, it's a cracking day's racing. It's sort of got me thinking. I reckon the second day at Ascot is always the better day from a punting point of view. I think this is the way over the journey. So it'll be interesting to see what Peter thinks, if we have Peter joining us.
Speaker 2Yes, he's ready to go.
Speaker 17G'day, Pete. Morning, Gareth. Morning, all. Yes, I agree with Terry, to be honest. I think opening day, it's just about getting a bit of a feel for what the track's doing, which is always perfect, let's face it. But this second meeting, you get a little bit more depth to the card and really there's a little bit more form to get your head around. So plenty of horses resuming. I think there's a few angles, though, so I'm keen to see what Terry thinks of those two features.
Speaker 2We'll have a look at the Crawford Stakes. Now, Hot and High, we know she's very good. She's the favourite at $2. Sensation at $3. Playing at Sweet, $6 with bet $3.65. London's Image at $9. Eccentric Nature at $23. Awesome Boy at $26. Which way are you leaning here, Terry Layton?
Speaker 16Oh, there's no bet at the market for me. It's a really good map race. Sensation will lead. Hot and High should be on its back. Playing at Sweet, probably 1-1. Maybe London's Image goes forward. Awesome Boy, it depends how they ride it. But I just think. I just think the back of Sensation is so crucial here. So I'm with Hot and High, but again, I'm $2.40. It's even money, so I'm not going to tell you to have a bet when it's under my price. But I don't think the Winterbottom winner is in this particular race. It's one of the major sort of lead-ups to the Group 1 in a month or so's time. But the interesting part, I guess, if you want to discuss sort of an angle in this race, is that Lucy and her manager had a choice between Hot and High and playing at Sweet. And I know there was nothing between the choice. It was a proper coin flip. But they've gone for playing at Sweet, and it's triple the price. So if you are looking for an angle, there's one for you.
Speaker 17Pete Anthonis? Yeah, I'm all over playing at Sweet here. I love the trial. I love the setup. I love the figures around this horse. I don't think there's that much difference between playing at Sweet and Hot and High. I'm still yet to be convinced by Hot and High, to be honest. And that's probably a little bit harsh. And as Terry said, probably going to map a dream here. But just on pure numbers, I can't get that horse close to even. So for me, playing at Sweet, and I have to have something on London's image, clinch on supporter on first time. I've got no idea what the map's going to be. They could go forward. They could go back. It could end up anywhere. It could be three wide, no cover. But again, on pure numbers, she has at least two ratings that would knock the socks off most of these in this race. So look, I'm backing both. And I'm every chance of getting done. I understand that. But it doesn't really matter. I can't have cessation this price either after I was all over her and Kalgoorlie. And she might come back to bite me. But two horse play here, playing at Sweet and
Speaker 2London's image. The SEN Turf Eurythmics Stakes is the feature at Group 3 level. King of Light at 220 is the market leader. Jason Pateman and Jason Lyon. Who would have thought that? They would be combining with Western Empire at $5. Watch Me Rock at $7. Bon Joy at $7.50. Vatican Storm at $13. West Star at $15. And Forever Boy at $17 here. We'll go with you here first, Pete. Who wins the feature tomorrow afternoon? mascot oh geez
Speaker 17the map looks an absolute disaster to do the form for this race g um probably the best ride will end up winning and you know the speed you're looking at one of the horses like watch me rock west star does let's gallivant somehow lead maybe in good order i don't really think anything else could lead this race and so i'm expecting them to hack along uh i probably have to have something on my old mate bonjoy i think she's as good fresh and as good over this sort of distance range as any of these she's got the best turn of foot in my opinion so at the price i'm going to end up having something on her but i concede i'll need a lot of luck
Speaker 16terry
Speaker 2yeah pete's right with
Speaker 16the map um it's it's an absolute wild one who ends up out in front to be honest with you it's funny uh i think if i don't know if i think if it was grant lalana and pikey they'd consider going forward with western empire he actually begins really well traditionally like he leads a lot of his trials he obviously breathed in a hyperion and i know the old thing oh we can't go forward we'll cook the prep but it went forward once last prep sat in the breeze in a hard run hyperion he came out two weeks later and walked in the strickland so i didn't exactly cook him so you go forward you're going to be going slowly it's going to be soft as butter so if i get any type of inkling or announcement they're going forward on western empire i'll be all over him because i just think king of light coming off a setback and i respect the horse deserves all in favoritism for the railway at the current weights but gareth you've got to remember they've already qualified for this race if they win this they're going to cop a weight penalty probably for the runway to win 100 grand which might cost you a million in a month's time they're going to be trying to win but is this the be all and end all at even money for king of light i don't think so so current prices i'd actually be backing both adjacent patents watch me rock thought the trial was fine no shades on maps to the lead or sit leaders back and western empire a bit like london's image for pete mccrawford i have no idea what the map ends up but um he's as good a horse as king of light still i reckon grant lalana
Speaker 2williams i think they're appealing their disqualification they're looking to get a stay but jason pateman's training these horses at the moment have has it been long enough to see how these horses have been going under his care terry no not
Speaker 16really he's had a couple of runners that have gone unders which was a concern last week um he had one go around on wednesday called figaku jumped 120 to one on betfair have a look at the replay it'll luck and it maybe wins the race so that's a positive sign but um it's actually my horse in the second will be his first real chance silent diva is currently about 280. so uh keep an eye out for how silent david goes and hopefully it's his uh it's his first winner um for a bit over a year i think snazzler was his last winner for uh yeah a year and a half or so so hopefully
Speaker 2that's the one what about your best bets there tomorrow that's
Speaker 16got terry uh usual story i've got four thousand of them uh in race number two i do think my horse will be very hard to beat silent diva but i just really love how silver eye is going at the moment um my only caveat with silver eye is does the horse only go for sean o'donnell because it's two runs not for sean in its last x amount um or it's too plain as but the horse is just flying probably maps one one hasn't drawn a barrier for a million years so it's a horse i um yeah i've just got to be with so uh still right around 480 currently that's still enough to have a bet you can chop on mine i think there are two chances um race number three i think he's angelic gives you a six bucks he's no superstar but mitchy pateman's are just flying and this horse trialed against twisted steel and trialed really nicely so no reason it doesn't give you a big kick and go close and jedi dream deserves favoritism but um yeah it's it's the value uh treasured legacy in the fourth gareth should have beaten roger comfortably last time they met a bit wary about this map i'd like to see him be really positive or really defensive i don't think there's a spot just midfield for them here so i think it's the best horse we just need some luck and while we're near four bucks i'm happy to have a bet there uh western miss on on a very ambitious path the rauway should be sub even money while it's north even money in race number seven we can bet and um in the last the money's already came so the price is sort of gone but i think our girl can run across hearing that holly knottle is going to sit on swingman and it should just be winning and you could you could probably get that as short as even money now that you know that swingman's going to
Speaker 2sit 250 foul girl can run mitchell pateman said she could be a winner bottom horse pete so she should be winning that yeah i'm expecting
Speaker 17that right here with intent as uh as terry said and i was trying to work out myself if swingman they might take a sit off that's off that setback but um i don't exactly have the best bet at ascot g but i tried to convince mick gannon on the sydney set last night the joker's grin was one of the best each way bets of all time and uh he didn't want a bar of it but it's the slowest he's gone first up in his career slowest he's gone full stop in his career in that first up run off a long break if you ignored that first up run the margin of error you just had a look at these trials you'd think well based on his sp versus overpass in fact he's beaten him one out of two times he deserves to be at least the equal price in a race of plenty of speed but if you watch that replay of last time out g he was in front past the post i think joker's grin is on track and need i remind anyone his uh big pb before he really stamped himself was over a thousand meters at belmont on a soft seven the only time he's seen a soft seven i think is an absolute bet to nothing and should be almost equal favorite in that field so for me race six of the sydney stakes get on
Speaker 2joker's grin number two yeah go you good thing it could be a big day for wa cosmic crusader into joker's grin you'll hear the roar from ascot and then if roger gets up yeah it'd be one hell of a day for uh
Speaker 17for the replay watches that's for sure uh cosmic crusader yeah i don't really know to make it that core
Speaker 2field cut yes yes yes sorry you go pete then go terry's sorry pete
Speaker 17that's okay but the roger was a better line than i had uh the core field cup is this the weakest core field cup of all time you'd know these internationals better than me g but uh cosmic crusade has been racing it's much better horses the last well basically this entire prep so if he gets any luck any luck from the barrier draw um i think he deserves to be favorite and clearly so unless one of these internationals is something
Speaker 2good i think it's not a bad core field cut when you've got horses like cosmic crusader and a half yours um these internationals are okay they're progressive they're progressive they've got good records and it'll be interesting to see how they do go terry um Cosmic Crusader, you'll be cheering for him, no doubt.
Speaker 16Absolutely, yeah. I'd love to see him win the Caulfield Cup, then back up a week later. It would be, yeah, tremendous for WA Racing. As you're right as well, Gareth, whenever a WA horse, especially one in a big race, like a Group 1, like Cosmic Crusader was, when they win, the vibe on course is very cool. Only matched by when a Kalgoorlie horse wins in town with the Kalgoorlie vibe on course. That's the only vibe that's better. But yeah, I love being on course when one of ours flies the flag with pride over Easter.
Speaker 2I tell you, the vibe that I want to be a part of these days is the Mitchell Pateman vibe. He just can't do anything wrong. He's having one runner for one winner there on a Wednesday. And Patrick Carvery went straight to the front. It was like watching Nas Ruella. Well, I actually
Speaker 16just bought one online for two grand and rang Mitch and said, can you do magic things with this? He said, sure, I'll do my best. It's a half the last style bender. It's a triad horse. And I just said, I need to be part of this. So I just injected myself, Gareth, which probably doesn't surprise you.
Speaker 2Shares are available at $4,000. Good on you. Thanks for that, Terry. We appreciate your time, boys. Have a great day. Thanks, Terry. Thanks, Pete.
Speaker 17Cheers, Gareth. Thanks, Joe.
Speaker 2There we go. There's our look at Ascot tomorrow. We'll take a break. Dean Evans from Winning Edge Investments will be my special guest next. Welcome back to Giddy Up, boys. Great to catch up with Dean Evans from Winning Edge Investments, winningedgeinvestments.com, professional betting education, tips and ratings so you can treat your betting like an investment. Well, Woven was great for us there last week for the Dean Evans show. He's won the Dean Evans Followers. And let's hope we can continue on his terrific form for one of the biggest days of the year, if not the biggest, Caulfield Cup Day and Everest Day. Hello to you, Dino. How are you going? And, jeez, that first race too last week, a forced march. It was a big effort at $14.
Speaker 18Yeah, charged home down the outside. Just ran out of time. Couldn't get there in time, but it was a big run. It was good value each way, Beth. And it's pretty handy.
Speaker 2Let's get your insights, mate, for some of these feature races. We'll start off with the Caulfield Cup. Bet 365 has Cosmic Crusader at $5. Saran at $8. Wine Dark Sea now equal third favourite with St. George, both at $8.50. Envijar at $11. Half Yours, $13. Royal Supremacy, $15. The Euphrates and Jujica Bow, yet to get a start at both $15. She's a Hustler, $17. Starford at $21. I hope you enjoy that. I hope he wins at $20 to $1 and then Treasure the Moment at $26 and Kingswood, who was excellent last week, at $26 along with Kings Valley. Who wins the Caulfield Cup, Dean?
Speaker 18Yeah, look, obviously, really interesting Caulfield Cup with a lot of the chances drawn wide. I'm taking a set against a naturalism form. It just didn't sort of rate well enough on the times for me. It's the likes of St. George and Saran. I'll be betting around. And Cosmic Crusader back on a dry track and drawn $17. Although he rates really well. You know, also, again, just having to bet around him at the price. I do think the best of the internationals is Wine Dark Sea. Obviously, a shocker draw there out in 19. But they're talking about getting cover, but just the way I see the map, if the Euphrates doesn't get a run, then I think they have to push forward on Wine Dark Sea and see if they can lead because otherwise he could get posted. But he's a really high-quality horse. Beat Dubai on it pretty comfortably at Wait for Age last start. You know, if he gets luck in the running, I think Wine Dark Sea, hard to beat. And probably the only other rods I'd be interested in backing at the price is Royal Supremacy, who's just, you know, he's settling much, much better than last year. He was a pretty immature type of horse last year and yet managed to win a Metropolitan and then only get beat two and a half lengths in the Caulfield Cup. So, you know, I think as a more seasoned six-year-old now, Royal Supremacy profiles really well and she's a hustler of the best value. I think Ruffy finally getting back onto sort of a dry track. Her dry track runs have been really good. She's just had no luck. She's either been on bog-heavy tracks or she's sort of been, you know, chasing the pride of Jenny or, you know, just hasn't really had the right to a profile. And she's probably the other one I think at value who's going to get a really nice run
Speaker 2in transit. So Wine Dark Sea, Royal Supremacy and the best Ruffy. She's a hustler in the Caulfield Cup for Dean Evans. And then we go to the St. Ledger, another race you want to have a look at, race four tomorrow. A couple of key scratchings here. Anthra Side and Juju Cabot come out. So the favourite, So You Are, is at $3. Bella Montagna at $6. Klondike at $6.50. And then the Budgie Smuggler at $6.50. And piggyback at $9. At the Bass Can at $11. New Look is a $12 chance. Sam Hawkins at $17 here. Who do you like in this race?
Speaker 18Yeah, look, I just think there's a lot of stays there out of four. You know, Klondike's in the market, but it's second up off a 440-day break. The Budgie Smuggler, Sam Hawkins, are all not going that well. Bella Montagna hasn't been able to win and we hit the company. You've got So You Are there. He's been winning, but it's sort of beating the B graders and C graders, really. And the one I thought that was valued around $11 each way was out of Bass Can. You know, it doesn't win out of turn, but I thought his run in the Metrop was really good. He got well back and ran past, you know, the likes of Solar Spain and Deacon. He ran a better race than Greenwood. Green Space is in the Caulfield Cup. He was hitting the line really well. He gets Zach Burton here, which is a huge, huge positive jockey change for any rider, really. Although, you know, it's been a while since we've seen out of Bass Can win. He loves his soft conditions. He's sort of been around the mark in some of these really good races recently. You know, Moonee Valley Gold Cups and Sydney Cups has sort of been in the minor placings. And he was just the one that was running home. And I thought of each way odds at around $11 in the field of just out-of-form stays. He might be the one, you know, he might be the one that's going to win. He might be the one that bobs up.
Speaker 2There you go. And the OTI colours with Zach Burton riding for O'Shane Charlton. So, Ather Bass Can in the St. Leger. And now we'll have a look at the feature race, the Everest. And we bet $3.65. He's $1.50, Kying Rising, Tempted $5, Jimmy Star $15, Jolly Star $16, Ninja $17, Blue Door $29. Headwall has had some backing at a price that's halved its quote now from $61 to $31. Giga Kick $40, Spicy Martini $40 to $1. And then Angel Capital at $61. Savvy Halley at $100 to $1. And Cabela's at $150 to $1.
Speaker 18Yeah, look, you know, we followed Jimmy Star. This prep, he's just tried like a superstar all prep. And he was just so impressive in the Manicato. I looked at his run in the Everest last year. He was three wide, no cover on a really dry track. He only got beaten sort of 1.3 lengths by Kying Rising there. He gets his, third wet conditions here. And I think he's going even better this year with that Manicato win. So I thought Jimmy Star was a really great each way bet. I was also really impressed with Ninja. He trialed, another that trialed really, really well. And I tipped him here to win the, you know, the Group 2 Missile first up. And then he just had no luck second up. He was four wide, no cover. And that trial, you know, I've got to follow the trials. And he was just really good there against Kying Rising. And, you know, we're obviously betting against a champion. It's not a race where you're going to totally unload when you've been against a champion. But he's got that, you know, heavy or very soft conditions to contend with. We're guessing a bit with him in terms of how he's going to handle that. And I just think there's a couple of horses there, Jimmy Star and Ninja, that are high quality, will handle the wet track. And, you know, if Kying's wheels are spinning a little bit, then you're certainly getting huge odds about a couple of very, very high quality sprinters.
Speaker 2That is fascinating. A couple of the judges are taking on Kying Rising tomorrow. So what price do you think he'll start?
Speaker 18It probably ends up, depends on what the track sort of ends up. If it remains heavy, then I think he, you know, gets towards $1.80, $1.90. If it's softish, then, you know, maybe $1.70, $1.80 type thing. But I think, I think it really depends on how that track's drying and how horses in the early race would perform. If it seems like the type of day, where real wet trackers are winning, then people would take a set against them. But if it seems like most horses are getting through it okay, then I guess they come for them again.
Speaker 2In the Silver Eagle Race 8, this is the other race you want to touch on there at Randwick. Skyhook 290, Baywack 320, Decorum $8, and then Plaintiff at $12. Platinum Pantheon, the Kiwi, at $15 here, Dean.
Speaker 18Yeah, look, Skyhook is a horse we've followed. It was a two-year-old. He's all over the place. He's trawled really, really nicely, trawled brilliantly before this prep. And we're back in both his VO marks and Shannon Stakes wins where he's been really dominant. But the interesting thing about Skyhook is he's even better on a rain-affected track. It's probably surprised me how well he's run on really bone dries in his first two runs. But he absolutely loves a rain-affected track. And that probably negatively impacts those rivals, including Baywack. So I think Skyhook is extremely, me hard to beat here. Maps beautifully and just looks really, difficult to beat. I thought the one at value, the horse that also just looked like a really high quality trailer and was going to have a really good plaintiff. First up, sort of had to run against the bar, she settled last, had to hook wide. Was only beaten sort of less than a length by Savvy Halley who runs in the Everest and Lazura who then bolted in at its next run. And then she just sort of got stuck on the fence I think there for a while in the Premier. The fence was off that day. Track was a bit gluggy and she didn't handle it because she has one you know, PJ Bell Group 3 on a wet track before a plaintiff and so I thought there was one to sort of jump out of the ground at double figure odds that was plaintiff but Skyhook certainly very, very hard to beat.
Speaker 2And then you've got a Friday fill up for us at Launceston Race 3
Speaker 18tonight. Yeah, there's a horse here at pretty good each way odds around $6.50 called Warrior Smile. He was early on, he ran for the Hayes brothers and he was running well at sort of Saturday Metro and listed level and then he just went off the boil and he's gone to Tasmania. He's trained by John Blacker now and it's having his first run for him and he's run sort of plus 4.3 once above standard last 600 in his first trial and plus 9.8 last 600 in his second trial where he's only beaten a neck by the odds on favourite in this race and trialled just as well as it. So I thought he matched really well here from an inside gate. Should get a good run and I like backing these horses when they trial well if they're first run for a new trainer. So Warrior Smile each way hopefully can give us a
Speaker 2nice healthy bank to get stuck into Saturday. Geez, I love that. He's a great trainer Johnny Blacker. Warrior Smile, $6 each way all day at Launceston Race 3 number 2. The former Lindsay Park train galloper. Dean, you're flying at the moment mate. We appreciate your time as always on Giddy Up and enjoy tomorrow.
Speaker 18Yeah, thanks and your listeners will be hearing an ad popping up in the next couple of weeks for a competition that we'll be running to win a couple of tickets to the marquee worth around $3,000 on Stakes Day. How good is that? And ownership in Vauban and whatever he runs in in November. So that'll be hearing that shortly.
Speaker 2Love that mate. Thanks for your time Dino. Cheers Gareth. There's Dean Evans from Winning Edge Investments. We'll take a break. Nick Ashman to join me next.
Speaker 1Text us on 04009 736 736.
Speaker 2Thanks to the beatenfavorite.com. Nick Ashman joins me here. Hello to you Nick.
Speaker 19Hello G. Happy Caulfield Cup and Everest E. One of the best day of racing all year. I'm sure you've had it all week anyway but it's been a good build up too hasn't it? I mean probably a lot of the media attention has been more so on the Everest just with car yin in town and the horrible Sydney weather and the unpredictable weather but it's a pretty good Caulfield Cup down there. I mean there seems to be a lot of chances and that Melbourne Cup market will just take a little bit more shape about 5 o'clock on Saturday afternoon won't it?
Speaker 2Yeah 100% and these internationals add a lot to this year's Caulfield Cup and I reckon maybe the Melbourne Cup winner from an international perspective might be just eating grass there at Werribee while the Caulfield Cup is being run and won but what are you like tomorrow mate? Where do we start with your place?
Speaker 19Look let's start up in Sydney. I just think in that Sydney Stakes race 6 Mahuna number 15 I'm pretty keen on her she won the Galaxy four starts ago and every all three runs since then she's taken on Tempted who's the best sprinter in Australia at the moment anyway and certainly in terms of her times and she'll go off a clear second favourite against car yin in the Everest she's pretty good Mahuna you know she's a slipper winner at two she's sort of trained on pretty well Galaxy winner when she was a bit older and here she is again stumping up and I thought her runs this time in have had a bit of merit albeit she's been no match for Tempted just on an each way basis there I see she's already trimmed up a little bit in terms of the Everest itself look obviously I'm saying what everyone said all week it just depends on where the track gets to and it is sunny at the moment I wouldn't be surprised we we're still reasonably confident we'll get into the the soft range I'm not sure if you've had an update from the ATC but and I think once we do particularly if we get to a soft six he'll be a dollar thirty five dollar forty K and rising and be very hard to beat the problem for Tempted is it's not so much the wet condition she loves it but there's two things one is that I reckon she's a little bit better fresh like then then two weeks between runs just looking at some of her numbers and the other thing is is barrier one so if that track does get wet the inside will just drop out a bit or become slightly inferior and so all of a sudden even though it doesn't suit Kay and rising there's a couple things against her as well so that's probably the issue if one of those two isn't going to win well good luck trying to work out who's going to win over the rest of them so I'll leave that alone just down in Caulfield mate I've got a roughy that I've put out to our works Bergerians as we call them it's in the Thousand Guineas number 12 Katoto I sort of found her late in the piece and she broke a maiden beaten Tron bolt down in Kemba last season they put it straight into a listed race and she wasn't disgraced as a short price favorite she carried 61 first up this time in uh when finishing a length off sequin to smash the clock at Caulfield last Saturday and I thought her run since then probably had some hidden merit given she over raced I think she's 51 dollars it's a crazy price but love it
Speaker 2for Chris Waller there you go yeah
Speaker 19something they're just coming for the battlers hey in the cup mate I'm with the old boy Knight's Choice I reckon I reckon he's back I reckon that run last week was huge uh dry track seven day 24 meter run tick tick tick look he's obviously not the classiest horse even though he's a Melbourne Cup winner but he hasn't been four deep into preparation since that Melbourne Cup campaign and I think off what he did last weekend he's riding this at a big price as well yeah
Speaker 2listen Robbie Dolan he hopefully yeah um get the job done once again for the connections there and then he'll be singing there's no doubt about that he'll probably DJ with Benny Allen if he can um win a Caulfield Cup and board Knight's Choice hey thebeatenfavorite.com you can get there um hamburger with the lot just go to your website all these track condition reports um will be updated on that website and it is the one-stop shop there's no doubt about that mate so you keep on dominating Nicholas thanks for
Speaker 19that thanks there
Speaker 2there's Nick Ashman Scotty Amor the jump out King extraordinaire joins us G'day Scotty how are you Gareth how are you mate good thank you mate take it away with your
Speaker 20specials uh we'll start off with my best spec Caulfield race one Russian Rock I thought it was a very good effort last start when he got out into the open I thought he finished off really well third up Craig Williams jumping on I think this horse is crying out for the 2000 and he can start our day off well Russian
Speaker 2Rock in the first at Caulfield what else have you got
Speaker 20uh my best each way is at LZ in the last race there race 10 Crown Princess second up here I thought her first up run was okay but the key is that she'll get back onto a good decent track and yeah with that improvement from the first up run I think she's a great each way play in the
Speaker 2last at LZ so that's Crown Princess in the last at LZ and the final of your plays on a Saturday there
Speaker 20Scotty uh we'll go to Randwick for Everest Jolie star I think she's the best place bit of the day uh second up I've got a theory but Australian sprinters when they come back from Europe I I think they need a run and then they can't bounce into their second run and can they they improve so I think she'll be I can't don't think she'll be Carling rising or tempted but I think she can run third and she's a great place bet top five for your Maltese um yeah Jolie star she'll she'll run a great race
Speaker 2I love it Scotty what happens when we back your tips
Speaker 20if you're back with the king you wear
Speaker 2all the blame keep on dominating Scotty have a great weekend mate
Speaker 20thanks Gareth and I hope you and your listeners have a great

Speaker 21tomorrow Gareth good morning uh yes good card at uh here at HQ tomorrow uh race one number one Mr Marrakesh Gary Clark and Jared Todd look to be in for a pretty decent day yeah he's knocking on the door the source 1300 meters suits him so race one number one Mr Marrakesh a newcomer to that stable uh in race three number three bold suitor uh fully trained by Tony Noonan uh now finds his way to the top end uh pretty speedy conveyance by uh what I've seen of uh him and his replays and what have you and I think from the inside drawer Toddy will go straight to the front and he'll take some running down race three number three bold suitor and if we go to the first of the two miles race five uh the zero to 58 mile Tokyo bandit for me one well last time and he's first starting down it was over 1200 meters I know Chris Nash was quite surprised that he'd uh get up and get going early over that trip he set him for the 1600 meters and I see no reason why he can't go back to back pool Shires days aboard race five number one Beautiful.
Speaker 2So race five, number one, race one, number one, and race three, number three, your tips there at Darwin tomorrow. Good on you, Andrew. Thanks for that.
Speaker 21Thanks, Gary. Cheers, mate.
Speaker 2We're going to celebrate the history of the Caulfield Cup as we get ready for the 150th running there tomorrow afternoon. And the legendary journalist Shane Templeton will be my special guest next here on Giddy Up. Really looking forward to my next chat here on Giddy Up. We're about to catch up with the former racing editor and chief racing writer at the Herald Sun for many a year. He also did some terrific work on racing.com, and he joins me now to have a chat about the Caulfield Cup and the history of this great race. I'll speak of Shane Templeton. Good morning to you, Shane. Thanks for your time.
Speaker 14And good morning to you, Gareth.
Speaker 2It's good pub debate, but when you look back at the history of the Caulfield Cup, and you're a man that's probably seen a few more than me, but who is the greatest Caulfield Cup winner?
Speaker 22Well, that's one of those unanswerable questions, I believe. But I commend the Melbourne Racing Club and Malcolm McLaren for what they've done with that top 18. It's a spectacular field. It's a world of outstanding horses. Eleven of them were in the original Tony Herald's Champions publication, and two more made the sequel. And most of the others in that field raced when, well, there's been no third one. So they were all recognised. When I started looking at the race, and somebody asked me, well, pick your one, two, three. I said, well, let's face it. That golden era of the 54, 55, 56, 57, when the Cups were won by Rising Fast, Red Cross and Tullock. Well, I was sort of born in 56. So I wasn't in the frame for those. There's no doubt all those three horses are absolutely, you cannot query their records, are unbelievably great horses. But I did my own exercise, and I halved the field, by only going from 66 onwards winners that were in there. I was well aware of Galilee, I was at Togan Bronze's Caulfield Cup. And from then on, even as a mid-teenager, I was always going to the races, or eventually by 1973, late 1973, I was working at the Sporting Globe. So I brought the field down to nine, still an elite field, and there's no problem. And they are, in chronological order, Galilee, Togan Bronze, then Guy Icarus, Sobar, Leilani, then you scoot up to Letzalope, Might and Power, Northerly, and Very Elegant. So that was the field of nine. And then I had to figure out who my one, two, three were, which will be. So for winning post readers, they'll see that today. I can tell you now, Gareth, that. -
Speaker 2That'll be much appreciated. I'm eagerly awaiting your numbers here. -
Speaker 22Okay, Might and Power on top, Sobar second, Galilee third. -
Speaker 2So Northerly just misses out? -
Speaker 22Well, somebody has to miss out on the top three, and it's a crying shame when you can't put the three in. But I cannot imagine on the weights that they had in that field, which I can see what they were, those other weights they carried, even if, you know, we're talking about Red Craze and Rising Fast, as good as they were, there's no doubting how outstanding they were. I cannot see how either of those horses who could have given that much weight to the front running, Might and Power, and Sobar, who would have been right behind them. - Is Might and Power
Speaker 2the most memorable victory as well? I think everybody remembers where they were when Jimmy Cassidy took off there with the champ. -
Speaker 22I think, yeah, I think so. It was mind-boggling to me. I was out there watching it on the lawn, and when he's charged away, and when he went past me, he was actually going further in front of them. And I thought, this time is going to be sick. I turned to Neil Donnelly and I said, I can't wait to see this time go up. This has got to be a new record, which it was. Yeah, it's probably the most memorable, because of the margin. You just don't, you don't expect a horse to lead all the way in a staying race and win by seven and a half weeks and smash the course record. You just don't go there thinking that, do you? -
Speaker 2And no one thought he would lead too, did they? -
Speaker 22Well, I don't, no, see, I don't think we'd ever, A, he did most of his racing in Sydney, and we'd certainly never seen him do that before. And that was just the start. I mean, he's, he's the only horse in my memory that has led all the way to win a Caulfield Cup, a Melbourne Cup and a cross plate. - Yeah. - It's pretty, it's pretty imposing stuff. -
Speaker 2What do you make of this year's field, mate? And who do you like? -
Speaker 22Well, I think this, this, this year's field is a total puzzle to me. There are horses there, I don't know much about, and I think, you know, the market reflects that. But Brian Martin, another great contributor to your station in the park, he rang me this morning and he said, look, I've been up and down this field. This is, despite the barrier, I can't see them beating Cosmic Crusader. - Yeah. - And I listened to him and I started all dawn on me. He's got the perfect form leader, he's a very good galloper. And if William Pike can just wield a little bit of magic from the barrier, I don't think he'd be missing top three or four, and I think he's the one they've got to beat. -
Speaker 2Yeah, that's the key. Pike just has to wave some magic early doors from gate 17. But if he can land a spot or find a backside, even if it's three wide, he has got the wait for age form there after just destroying our best wait for age horse. So yeah, he's going to be hard to beat. And Bob might get his Caulfield Cup after missing out in 1988. Did you think Congressman won that year, Shane? -
Speaker 22Bob was, well, he's definitely, yeah, that was a strange Cup, wasn't it? So there was a lot of, a lot of things happened and a fair few casualties in that race. -
Speaker 2Hey mate, it's great to have you on the show. Hope you're well, we appreciate you coming on. We might have to get you and BM and we'll get Neil Donnelly. We'll get you on the show one day and we'll have a chinwag and a catch up and I reckon that would be great. -
Speaker 22Looking forward to it. If you can put it together, well done. -
Speaker 2Yep, I'll organise that. Thanks for that Shane, appreciate your time. - Thanks guys. - There's Shane Templeton. Now wrap up for Lilydale Instant Lawn, Australian family owned quality turf delivered on time. Every time our roots run deep, Jason Grimson, will be my special guest to kick off the Friday form panel. Of course, he trains Captain's Mistress, who's the short prize favourite in the Victoria Cup. A great night of harness racing. You can listen to that full preview on SCN Track coming up straight after 12 o'clock. We've got the Derby Heats, we've got the Oaks Heats as well. So Ryan Phelan and Timmy O'Connor will be joining me and we'll kick off that hour with Jason Grimson. Looking forward to that. And also of course, the Million Dollar Chase tonight. Say farewell to an iconic venue in Wentworth Park. And she's seen a lot Wentworth Park in 94 years of conducting race meetings, greyhound racing. And I'm looking forward to tonight. It will be a night of celebration. There will be some sadness there as we leave Wentworth Park, but you can watch that coverage on the Seven Network as well. So looking forward to that. And it's gonna be a ripper as well, the Million Dollar Chase. It's the final race there on the program. On with Kenya Mayhem to be the first dog to win a Melbourne Cup and a Million Dollar Chase. For Jess Hopkins, it would be some story as he jumps from box number one. Thanks for your company on Giddy Up on this Friday morning. It has been a busy show. We've gone out like nature's trip from the get-go. It's gonna be a terrific Caulfield Cup, one hell of an Everest. Enjoy tomorrow, gamble responsibly. And it's not only the thoroughbreds, but the dogs tonight and the trots tomorrow night. For us racing fans, it doesn't get any better. You have a wonderful weekend and I'll catch you again Monday morning on Giddy Up for mate, but I'll be with the team for the Friday form panel next.
