It's two minutes past eight. Let's get stuck into our show.
Speaker 1On Giddy Up, it's time for the Melbourne Breakdown with David Gateland.
Speaker 2And Clint Hutchison's with us on this Monday morning, all thanks to Woodside Park. Celestial legend brewing in the Doncaster Mile at Group 1 and tough in the Roundwood Guineas at Group 1 level. David Gateland. Gately, hello to you.
Speaker 3Very good morning to you, mate. A couple of odds on favourites at Caulfield on Saturday. Of course, she's an alibi. The one that didn't lob. I went down narrowly in the third degree sunburn. Did lob. But it was great being out there. And yeah, the crowd were right into it too. It was a great vibe. Yeah. Hello to you, Hutch.
Speaker 4Yeah. Hello. Good morning. I like the fact you got the NFL on.
Speaker 2No, just for you today. Because Gator and you, so what we're going to do. Obviously, this match is in full swing at the moment. You're a Seattle man.
Speaker 4Yes. Yeah. They should win. Oh, it'll be a good game. Yeah. It'll be a good game. But no, I like the fact. If I get distracted, I'm watching that, all right? Yeah, that's understandable.
Speaker 2Gator, you love the NFL. Did you play today?
Speaker 3The Raiders are currently playing. I'm watching it on delay. So no spoilers, please.
Speaker 2All right. No problems. Yeah, we won't do that to you. What about the weekend? Hutch, you were on Racing.com. I was watching you. You were brilliant as always. And Gator, you were on Racing.com. You were at the races.
Speaker 3Yeah, I got the heads up on Thursday to be on course. And yeah, it was, as I say, a great vibe. The crowd into it. You know, it was a good young crowd. And mate, the racing was fabulous. I mean, we touched on she's an alibi getting beaten. But the reality is she still broke the track record. There just was a horse in front of her.
Speaker 2It was an amazing race. We might even start with the might and power. Are we going to start with the Caulfield? We can start with the Caulfield Guineas. And then we'll get to the might and power. Because they were both great races. So many talking points to come out of those races. And Warwoven was the favourite. He was the Golden Rose winner when he smashed the clock. And he headed to Melbourne. And he started a warm favourite in this year's Caulfield Guineas over the Victorian star in Blind Race.
Speaker 5Then something's burning. Blind Race went for home. 2.50 out. Had a length and a half to spare. Warwoven's chasing a gap Central Europe. Blind Race at the 1.50. Warwoven's a neck away. Blind Race joined by Warwoven. Warwoven goes on by from Blind Race. Warwoven surges onto Indigeneese. Warwoven too late.
Speaker 2It was a terrific race. There was a few surprises at the start there. Trombolt and Sarah Fox came out running in the early part to put some pressure on Blind Race. And then Blind Race was able to get a little bit of a breather. Hutch in the middle stages before Warwoven.
Speaker 4He came at him hard and was too good. Too good in the end. Well, he was. He had the perfect run in the race, though, as well, didn't he? So it was a great ride from Rachel. Yeah, he was the highest sort of. He's a horse with the right, the premium form as it was. And he certainly delivered under a brilliant ride from Rachel. I'll tell you what, tactically, though, it was very interesting because I don't think too many would have had Trombolt going forward. And then if that wasn't enough, Sarah Fox serving it up early as well. So, look, I think both of these colts, first and second, and I thought there was an enormous amount of merit in the runner-ups run. I mean, I don't know where. what the situation would have been if you swapped the runs, but I dare say it goes pretty well. And I think Blake, you know, he jumped. He would have looked at it, I suppose, like most of us, thinking, I'm going to jump, I'll get a pretty soft time in front because that's, I think, how most people envisaged it. And then he sort of kept kicking up to hold his spot and then it was like, oh, he's done a lot of work early here. So I thought there was a lot of merit to it, taking nothing away from Warwoven. Unbelievable effort, great colt. And he might be the better one, but I don't think there's much between them. I think if. if they meet again, it'll be really interesting, depending on if they go to the cocksplate, for example. You know, I could see Warwoven starting shorter than the other bloke and I'd be happy to back the other guy.
Speaker 3Gator? Yeah, I tend to agree. They're probably both probably a 9. 9.1 out of 10, weren't they? Both runs. Look what they did to the rest of the field. You know, data's data. They went 15.99 first hours and it was a length above even Group 1. Average, so. But what's more relevant than all that, and I'm almost sick of it, is just the. just the pressure. So, you know, when you're tested, it's very different to running time, you know, on your own without another athlete breathing down your neck. So I think they were both fabulous. I think a mid-race, there was a steady sort of length below and then they both come out, what, seven lengths above. So overall time, terrific. It was a fast day. But they're there too. You know, going into the race, I had a bit of trouble splitting them. I think a lot of people did and the market did. But, yeah, he was quite strong late. That wasn't even woven. So it was about the 125-metre mark that Blind Race was fighting and then, OK, enough. I'll, you know, he's too strong late. But I think those factors Hutch mentioned are salient and it's a question we'll never know the answer to. Swap the runs. What is the result? I'd love to know.
Speaker 2Yeah, we might find out in a Cox Plate. I know they're going to go to 2,000 metres. I'm just having a look at the Cox Plate market now.
Speaker 4Well, just as, I mean, when you look back, when I look back and it's always a reference point where the horses that have applied the pressure finish, they were gone on the track. Yeah, like Sarah Fox. They're punctured. It's not like they've run to the 200 either. Like they were spent early. So, yeah, I mean, they might have had enough and they're obviously nowhere near the calibre of the other two. But I think the exciting thing is that they're two very smart horses anyway.
Speaker 2So, well, woven's $5, Blind Race is $11. You're telling us, Hutch, you prefer to take the $11 Blind Race. No doubt. I honestly
Speaker 4wouldn't think there'd be much between them if, you know, but they've got to get it right on the day. But I thought there was a lot of merit in the second horse as well.
Speaker 2So, they go to a Cox Plate now. You'll get Light Infantry, man. So, it'll be truly run Cox Plate. Now, Land Legend isn't going to the Caulfield Cup. I've just been told then. So, he's not going to the Caulfield Cup. So, he might go to the Cox Plate. They're still undecided. So, if it is a trillion, really run race skater, would you be worried about those three-year-olds trying to handle a high-pressure Cox Plate?
Speaker 3Look, any high-pressure 2,000-meter race at this stage of their young careers is a question mark, you know? And that's why, you know, it's called gambling for a reason. So, it is a gamble. But you will be well-rewarded if you get it right at $11 and whatever wool woven is. I'd be shocked if they both don't run really well in a year where there isn't a Lish Grashear. There isn't a Romantic Warrior. And there certainly isn't a, you know, a BS of Steiner. So, the door is wide open, I think.
Speaker 4It's good to hear that. I mean, there's question marks around the principals. Yes. There has to be.
Speaker 2Yeah, Sir Delius and Eliana.
Speaker 4I know many are keeping the faith with Sir Delius, which is fair enough. But there's got to be a little bit of doubt there, hasn't there? A hundred percent, yeah. And what else is at the top of the market?
Speaker 2Eliana's a clear second pick.
Speaker 4Yeah, well, she was great the other day. She hit the line well. But she looks like more of a mile-and-a-half type, doesn't she? Well, she's not going to the Melbourne Cup.
Speaker 2Right. So, she'll go to the Cox Plate Champion Stakes, what we heard there yesterday.
Speaker 4Well, the thing is with these two three-ers, I suppose, they've put up some good numbers. So, you know that they're in the mix and they're striking a year where there might not be the star wait-for-age horse at the moment.
Speaker 2So, call-me-coach goes to the Paddock Central Europe. I don't know what he does, but I think that might be the end of his campaign. Trumbolt's an interesting one because I think Chris Waller's identified him as his Cox Plate horse. And I think they surprised everyone when they went forward there on Saturday. I even asked Chris the question on Thursday's Giddy-Up Stable Mail. I said, we see Craig Williams from Tyne. the time he likes to go forward from these wide gates would that be happening with this horse and he goes i don't think so gareth well obviously they changed their mind at some stage and he goes forward trombone now he did land one out one back after a few hundred meters um but he didn't handle cool field after that and whether that was like you can understand why craig wanted to do that but um in the end he he just he was pretty good down the straight but it was it was a funny old run from trombone um so
Speaker 4would you go to paddock
Speaker 2with him or would you give him a crack at flemington that's
Speaker 4chris yeah over that he knows how the horse is but i don't think that's i don't know what do you think i wouldn't think that's the way they'll ride him again anyway
Speaker 3yeah i think there was echoes of aliana as a three-year-old which he tried cool for the first time she didn't seem to get around the track at all and he didn't either so i'm happy to to give him and see him at some reason i just want to see him in a carbine club yeah um so that's
Speaker 2the cool field guineas call me coach is a he's a progressive type maybe a derby next year for him much yeah yeah i think so yeah i think so i
Speaker 4think that's a fair call um
Speaker 2anything else that you want to be taking out of the guineas
Speaker 4well usually when it's a you know the top two pretty handy there's usually a little bit of depth in back in behind but um yeah not at this point no i think the top two oh well that said um mr munzer's horse was pretty good wasn't he so i think that's a fair call so yeah that you mentioned so yeah that'd
Speaker 3be about it i'm gator yeah i think um they just they just need to come back in grade don't they so um you can do that there's a there's a lot of races if you're a handy horse um
Speaker 2it's 11 minutes past eight we're going to take our first break on the other side of it we'll come back and we'll have a look at the might and power there from saturday
Speaker 1you join the conversation text us on oh four double nine seven three six seven three six live across australia this is giddy up with gareth hall welcome back to giddy up
Speaker 2gareth hall with you 14 minutes past eight yeah well woven's pulled up beautifully so he's a strong chance to come to the cox play they'll still weigh up along with blind rays at the moment they're going there there's a lot can happen with these three-year-olds there is
Speaker 4absolutely but it's a big exciting to see
Speaker 2it's going to be exciting um it's 14 minutes past eight this might empower one of the great upsets in racing where we saw land legend who had a couple of duck eggs next to his name defeat she's alibi 150 meters
Speaker 5to go with kings with the outside birdman trying to get there two and a half off them and then she's an alibi still with a lot to do land legend 200 ago a length kingswood then birdman now she's an alibi closing land legend 100 ago still a length of the quarter kingswood she's an alibi thundering at land legend is it going to be too late yes it is land legend has won
Speaker 2it so much to unpack um it was one of those moments where you just had to like land legends always had that in him in a way like he was mighty in a caulfield cup at a melbourne cup when he was trained by chris waller you don't
Speaker 4see too many horses pull that hard for that long and still what was he did he run sixth or seventh or something he wasn't beaten that it was the biggest
Speaker 2run the caulfield cup that year when zach had to get off the fence because he was just uncontrollable and then he kept on running it was duke de cessa's cock uh caulfield cup um and then kieran was trying to teach him to settle and that's why he's been out the back and then on saturdays that well just let him do what he wants to do basically and roll with him and that's what he did he's messed perfect storm
Speaker 4been in the game a long time gareth and i'll tell you what doesn't make it any easier to decide for what happened but um i look i think a few factors gator mentioned earlier about a horse you know when they're doing it on their own even though they're going quick when they're on their own it helps i think firm ground was a big thing it was a fast track left alone and um you know obviously he's a horse with ability and he uh he got a bit of help with the the wind down the back as well and you know he got away with a loose lean and and hung on but he hasn't really done it since he's been here has he i think he's run first up off the plane was okay and then he's he's just been a head wreck to be honest
Speaker 2no he's just a nutter and and um kieran changed up his training as he said in the stewards report when he was asked why you let and were you expecting to lady goes well he's he's too crazy for the track work riders so we've got this hill at bellarat and i'll just keep on sending
Speaker 4him up that hill gator i reckon ethan that was a big part of it because he knows the horse and he probably thought you know i'm going to work with you rather than try and fight in it i know he was going fast but it's obviously a horse that if you can somewhat manage it um that's the kind of result you might get
Speaker 3yeah that's it i think that's the key phrase somewhat managed like he he didn't go anywhere near as fierce as i've seen him he was keen the first couple hundred but then seemed to relax pretty well for him you know and and if you're running two double 0.3 for 2000 meters you're pretty good you know you've got to be pretty good to do that 13 lengths above and then stopping the clock in track record time there's been some handy horses called for 2000 meters um so yeah i mean it's not a fluke you've got to have the talent to do it um and maybe that'll be the key to him going forward and you know a lot of work into him and and letting him do his own thing i think they've stumbled upon the the way to ride him i don't think it's any fluke at all um look she's an alibi was beaten um took an hour and a half to wind up which is going to be a problem coming back to 1500 but um she still broke the track record you know uh herself so there was just a horse in front of her sadly for those that took the show i
Speaker 2want to talk about she's alibi play grab from peter moody after um her second there on saturday when she had a chat to sander mcguire on channel seven but land legend when i was watching the race i was kicking myself i thought well he has this in him and he's got gate one why wouldn't she lead if he was behind the speed in a slowly run race he's probably going to be uncontrollable so i'm thinking i should have read this play better and i didn't well a
Speaker 4little bit of good form prior would have helped yeah i mean not necessarily with the map i know come on i mean he was a big price for a reason but because
Speaker 2they were riding him wrong would you agree with that then they tried to try and teach him to settle and he just i
Speaker 4think this setup has just been different yeah like he got a small field to be honest i i i think many people i would assume i thought he would lead but i didn't think he'd go that fast okay
Speaker 2i thought he would lead and then just they would i had an inkling that they might do this um because he's not going to be a horse where he can lead ethan and and go 13 furlongs you're not monday's quarterback i know but no no i'm i'm saying that i got it wrong yeah i'm just kicking myself now because i could and i know people are blowing up on the text like how can you predict it went 33 lengths quicker than his last start before that's a very good point that you make but i'm thinking like watching him in previous runs and seeing them try to hold him up and he just he's not that type of horse you've
Speaker 4been you would have been almost religious like to keep the faith with him uh gareth i think and have something yeah but you know a few did i suppose
Speaker 2yeah um she's alibi was as brave as they come like i think she went enormous really under the circuit as gator said
Speaker 4she's running track record and lost
Speaker 2yeah and some of her sexuals in the middle stage when she started
Speaker 4to change you know i think look it's been spoken about i suppose gator but it's a really interesting point you bring up about uh taking a little while to wind up because i think when i when we watched the drone shot that we had on the day you could see that luke nolan was sort of waiting for birdman to start to go and then i think he realized after about 50 meters birdman's not taking me i've got to go but there wasn't that instant sort of response and she took a lot of riding so it is a very interesting point that you bring up about going back to 1500 meters now and gee the way she attacked the line and was through the line you'd think that um she could get a bit a bit of a flat spot back in trip quite easily yeah
Speaker 2i'll get your thoughts on that gate i just want to play you peter moody's interview after the race
Speaker 6oh listen it was it was a tough run race when it uh all honest to the winner uh it was a tough run race when it uh all honest to the winner we weren't quite good enough on the day probably a harder run than i wanted to for the sake of going to a mile race in three weeks but listen she's run good she's run gallant uh you know as long as his ass points to the ground he'd never beat her again but he's had his day in the sun hadn't he so that's life and we'll bounce back to fight another day well we followed birdman and unfortunately he went terrible and we were going to use him to drag us into the race and it just didn't pan out so that's life we got beaten our merits well done to the connections of the winner and uh we've got a a sort of regroup and go back to sydney in three weeks and hopefully we can get the job done there oh a little confident in her ability now uh like i say that run the run of course record time i would have liked the softer run today to go back to three weeks but we'll let her guide the path
Speaker 2and see how she does so she's pulled up okay talked to moods there in the last two or three hours and um she she knows that she's had the run in a way but she'll be freshened up now trying to win a golden eagle gator um but it won't be easy as hutchie just pointed out after like that was the that was pete moody and kath commons worst nightmare on saturday with a truly run 2000 meter uh and then trying to get her ready now for a golden eagle yeah
Speaker 3so she's only got three weeks hasn't she um to come back it's not a mile 1500 it's even worse um so look she comes back to her own age group so that's a positive she's clearly better than them um all those four-year-olds but um you know i'm pretty sure kip chaga is a better athlete than an 800 meter runner but an 800 meter runner would beat
Speaker 2him yeah yeah it's gonna it's gonna be worth one of the most intriguing um storylines heading towards the um for the rest of the spring now
Speaker 4i mean i'm a bit concerned that she hit the flat spot but i'm not overly concerned about moods managing her back and trip and her copying and i've seen plenty of them have a have a hard run and hold it together um and sometimes they improve off it too yeah you know so i did hear once a couple of weeks ago mentioned about he's given up trying to predict uh an end of prep run and i think that's a very good statement that uh isn't used enough so she's a
Speaker 2dollar 80 with bet 365 now for the golden eagle baywax coming off a failed performance in a manicato um for a golden eagle so totally two different preparations ahead of the golden eagle for those two horses skyhook at eight dollars well written at 13 and then ninja at 15 and autumn board 20 to 1 is going to a cox plate so she has eased a little bit in those markets there for the golden eagle um but yeah it'll be interesting to see how she goes that as
Speaker 4an aside i mean it's exciting she she gets the 2000 strongly she's going to be a force to be reckoned with in australian racing
Speaker 2for a while what price would she be for the cox plate if she was going down that path this year that is a bit of a bridge
Speaker 4too far isn't it or do you think they'll go no they won't do
Speaker 2that but but if she if they did decide to say all right then we're going to leave the golden eagle alone and this is not happening all right this is just hypothetical type of stuff because i don't know if fred's going to be paying the two hundred thousand dollars what a price about a hypothetical situation there's got no chance of would you be backing her in a cox plate after watching her on saturday this year oh if if
Speaker 4she wasn't going to the other race and she's going to cox play absolutely yeah yeah absolutely
Speaker 3gator yeah i'd take any
Speaker 4odds yeah
Speaker 2oh who knows you might like we could all put into her like a go fund me page for a cox plate and she'd be like oh fred just to put in and see if we can get to 200 and i like these
Speaker 4these hypotheticals it comes up with gator a real but you never mind bend
Speaker 2hey we've had a few we've had a few um we've had a few people change their minds this spring you never know it does happen yeah it does happen um having a look at the cox plate market now so delius 375 aliana 450 war woven five cosmic crusader geez i hope he wins the caulfield cup and then he backs up into the cox plate he's
Speaker 4at seven well it's interesting with him he backed up last year in perth didn't he well well i think he had five runs in six weeks or something yeah i think it was four and five yeah
Speaker 2he went he missed down the rj peters and then went to the carbine had the week off won the northerly and then backed up a week later into the gold rush over 1400 they went over 2400 and 2000 in high pressure wait for age and handicap races like a coalfield and cox plate but he bob's not worried about that bob treats them like standard breads really sometimes like they're into dominion series so he doesn't mind but he's been pretty good at it 100 so um he's going to be the horse that i reckon would be great to see him try and win a coalfield and and cox plate in the same season um are you with who are you with gator at the moment the cox play birdman's an interesting one uh nine dollars for him with a light infantry man in the race um does can he handle a high pressure 2000 meter race gator
Speaker 3uh yeah he he learned to win an australian cup in a fast run race didn't he i think the wet track might have brought him undone there so he's going to be a great horse for him i think he's going to be a great horse for him um no real issue you know moody described peter described his run as terrible i wasn't i certainly wouldn't go with that you know he was just no match for a couple but not two lengths and a bit of change so he's run well just not as well as as we thought um but he too you know himself he's run a really fast time again so he's in the conversation i don't think there's any hope he'll be my top pick but he's
Speaker 4in the mix hutch yeah he'll run well i'm sure can he win of course yeah of course he can
Speaker 2that's a look at the might and power bring it on um the cox plate there in a couple of weeks time um it's 26 minutes past eight we'll take a break we'll come back with plenty more as we break down this caulfield guineas meeting we might have a look at the turac with lady shed and doer defeating changing colors and welcome to the show next join the conversation
Speaker 1text us on 0 4 9 7 3 6 7 3 6 live across australia this is giddy up with gareth hall
Speaker 2welcome back to giddy up this is the monday breakdown great to have your company all thanks to woodside park the home of laurel river that devastating winner of the group one dubai world cup the son of size sensation into mischief um how are your seahawks
Speaker 4going uh no they're behind at the moment uh the 49ers have just scored so all right long way to
Speaker 2go we can concentrate on another near miss of yours and that was in the group one to our candy cat let's replay the famous mile race they're on caulfield guineas day and it was james mcdonald at his very best
Speaker 5is sticking like glue the outer then came welcome to the show evaporate back to the fence with ponda laui then came sun god and changing colors salty pearl joined by welcome to the show on the outside then came evaporate and behind them changing colors at the hundred welcome to the show lady shenandoah is getting out welcome to the show lady shenandoah and changing colors lady shenandoah lady shenandoah she never
Speaker 2looked like winning she thought she was in trouble on a few occasions and somehow mcdonald was able to get into that that spot and um she was able to burst through and defeat changing colors and welcome to the show and i was watching this race and i thought bloody waller and mcdonald haven't they won enough group ones like lucy yeomans in her first group one was trying to win her first group one of course luke cartwright's been so close now on a couple of occasions um and welcome to the show would have been a story and a half for tyler donaldson aiken
Speaker 4and froggy knew it and um at the five hundred or even the probably the 350 you can't believe that jmax got out of or how did he win i don't know like honestly uh i was watching the race and luke cartwright gave that horse changing colors an unbelievable ride and and he probably wins the race you know 95 times out of 100 but for the magic and dare of jmac which was unbelievable i don't know how he got through that gap and welcome to the show was fantastic as well so second and third would have been a nice result thanks for reminding me gareth but uh jmax see waller um yeah they're an unbelievable combination aren't they and i mean but it was a it was an incredible ride i still don't know how he's got through that yeah i mean i was watching the other two when i watched it live i didn't even know what had won i didn't know where the lady shannon doe had come from and we'll talk to
Speaker 2mcdonald about that a little later on but like warning and lady shannon dog gator were basically going for the same runs and then they they both got a run but then warning was pretty good under circumstances room in the last 100 um and he put like sun god wasn't traveling so mcneil couldn't keep mcdonald into that
Speaker 4pocket he may have yeah but he was looking after his fellow rider yeah yes
Speaker 2yes um and lady shannon doer well she deserved that group one i reckon she'd be knocking on the door but um yeah it was it was one of those races where you just had to shake your head in disbelief to think well how did she do it and how did he do it mcdonald's
Speaker 3yeah yeah i think the first three were all really cool you know we're speaking be grading them out of 10 all three are probably gone you know 8.8 let's say i think for varying uh reasons all three have run really really well so lady shannon doer how do you take anything away from her she had 58 kilos as a mare so that's what 60 relative um you know to the males so it's hard to to decry her the win in saying that changing colors covered more ground down narrowly and welcome to the show sat closer to that strong speed and went down now they say they've all run really well i think um difficult to miss the run upon allow he's flying and so is too down the street so some good runs behind but um your first three the topic you know got got the a yeah i don't know
Speaker 2what changing color is doing i think lucy's thinking about going to the paddock instead of the empire rose um she's probably done well i've had a
Speaker 4long preparation haven't they and it's been a handicap it was just nicely in the good thing is that changing colors has run well enough now where you can sort of you can probably sit back and go you know what we can plan on yeah she's a real deal yeah i reckon
Speaker 2lady shannon doer will come back to melbourne to take on pride of jenny and an empire rose so that'll be interesting yeah um let's have a look at the herbert power stakes this was the staying race of the day is race four over the 2400 meters it was an interesting race because you had a couple of horses that already qualified for the melbourne cup and sakuma and chocolates horses like solcombe that it's on the comeback trail he's looking to try and qualify for some of these cups pinhole was the horse that had the new fresh form lines the rising stare um and he started the favorite for waller mcdonald and the star thoroughbred colors
Speaker 5and behind them sakuma and chocolates campaldino joined by machine gun gracie 250 meters to go future history's grinding away with suntora night's choice down the outside with pinhole suntora below the 200 night's choices driving through with pinhole night's choice up to suntora suntora night's choice and pinhole they go to the light photo oh this is close pinholes so
Speaker 2pinhole gets their um gator in the end suntora was brave night's choice and finishes third and sakuma and chocolates was a run and a half with the blinkers off it was a great melbourne cup trial no
Speaker 3i lost some doubt she was impossible to miss chocolates And without the blankets, she took 100 meters to wind up. It was absolutely steaming, the last bit. She's going to eat 3,000 and change, isn't she, with the gear back on. Her problem is all the internationals, but she's probably right at the top of the tree from the locals, which gives her, obviously, a live top 10, top 5 hope. But when it was good, though, you really had to dig deep. You looked in your world of pain at the 100, but that will to win will take you a long way in this game and any sport. I don't know where Santoro was last start when I backed it, but that was much better. Knight's choice was good. Future history wouldn't know how to run a bad race. And Zakuma, not as happy, you know. He sort of made ground and was a half length off. The winner straightening up. Then wanted to lay in at the 200. Don't love that. And didn't quite finish it off. So I'm not as effusive on him, but, you know, I get a lot wrong. So there's that.
Speaker 4Hutch? Yeah, interesting race, wasn't it? Particularly with the stewards report. They interviewed Blake and said, you know, you should have taken the run on the inside. What do you think? I think so, probably. But then again, I see what Blake said in the stewards report that the horse sort of still had his chance. And I think that's true to a certain point as well. But the runs there, I think you want them to take those runs when they're available, don't they? And it seemed at the time, the way you're traveling, take advantage of the run that you had and how you're traveling. And I think it probably, when they got alongside it, sort of wanted it. It's a game of small margins, so it's easy to sit in the stands and be critical, done that enough. But no, I thought, once again, yeah, that was a good effort from the winner. Jay Mack at his best, once again. It'll be a good Melbourne Cup reference this race. I think with Chocolates, it's very interesting because I see this year, and the race he won at Flemington, or the race that Chocolates ran at Flemington, I should say, was a very, very fast tempo. And I think the Melbourne Cup will be a very, very fast tempo this year as well. Yeah. That'll set up well for Chocolates.
Speaker 2So having looked at the Caulfield Cup market, I don't know if any horses, we're just waiting on night's choice to see what they're going to do and if they're going to back this horse up into the Caulfield Cup next week. Pinhole's going to go to a Moonee Valley Cup on the way to a Melbourne Cup. Chris Waller just believes that he's not quite ready for a Caulfield Cup just yet on the quick backup. So basically, the only horse to come out of Saturday heading towards a Caulfield Cup is Kingswood. We forgot to really mention him.
Speaker 4Yeah, Taylor was a good run for me.
Speaker 2Could he win a Caulfield Cup? Caulfield Cup at $26.
Speaker 4Before the weekend, I would have said no, but after the weekend, I would say yes. What about you, Gator?
Speaker 3Yeah, I'd mentioned him a few times leading. I thought he was going really well for the Caulfield Cup. You know, they're taking on the A-pluses and he's right with them. Even going back to the run prior, he was still travelling well into the home straight and he had other high-credentialed athletes off the bit. So I think he's flying. His problem is similar, a couple of internationals, but he'd be near top pick of the locals for me at 25 to 1.
Speaker 2Well, that is a good push for Kingswood. And then the Melbourne Cup, defiantly, and trust your instinct, they're arrived in Melbourne town. $10 each. Eliana's at $11. She's not going to go there. Half yours at $11. James J. Braddock at $13. Now, Chocolates is at $15 with Sakuma. You'd prefer Chocolates than Sakuma after watching that Saturday race? Or do you think the market's right there?
Speaker 4I mean, on one run, but you don't really just rate one run. Sakuma was terrific the start before. And they're both. I think if they both brought their best, there probably wouldn't be much between them. Hey, we'll take a break. We'll come back and have a chat
Speaker 2about some really good three-year-old performances and also the performance of Jigsaw, who was excellent there in the Scolacci in his return on Saturday.
Speaker 1Live across Australia, this is Gideon with Gareth Hall.
Speaker 5We'll be right back.
Speaker 2They're Gator, and he never really got out of second gear in the Scolacci first up there on Saturday.
Speaker 3No, he was too fast, wasn't he? Simple as that. He's broken one-two for the 1100. He led all from the front. And it's not as if he fell in. You know, he had a fair margin on a pretty good one. He's flying for fun. He arguably could have been a good one-winner twice, you know, late in the. through the winter. So, in career, he's good. He's just not as good as a few of these. And Ray McNeil was a non-event. But, no, all-honours winner again. These second and third-level sprints are just perfect for him. You know, there's talk of. There was talk around the track of a Tab Everest, but just beyond those A-plus is perfect for him.
Speaker 4Yeah. He just keeps turning up, like you said. It looked a lovely race for him. I'm not surprised the money came, because, to be honest, I don't think there was a lot of depth there. Ray McNeil looked a danger, and he was always going to. Well, he's got the wood over him, for starters. And it was probably a tricky set-up for him on the weekend. But, no, he's going to have an interesting campaign. Cindy's going to go. Is she going towards.
Speaker 2So, she goes to the McEwen next start on Cox Plate Day. She prefers it if it was around a bend, but she'll have to go down the straight. And then there's the slot race at Cranbourne. She'll probably get a deal that she. Like, I think Ladbrokes will probably just give her a blank check, basically, and say, if you turn up there. That's his kind of track. Yeah, you can take whatever you want. Or they try and persuade her to go back to Perth for a winner bottom. Now, Ray McNeil is definitely doing that. And then he'll go to the gold and gold rush over 1,400 metres. So, you can have a couple of cracks at two $1.5 million races. So, yeah, I don't know what Cindy's thinking. I know that they would desperately love to get her back to Perth. And I reckon it's a strong possibility to do that because you get $800,000 for winning the winner bottom. And I don't know. I don't know the break. You only get $400,000, I think, if you win the million-dollar slot race there at Cranbourne.
Speaker 4Well, the way he's going. Yep. You know, I'd be happy. In any of the races you've mentioned, he can win any one of those.
Speaker 2I think the Perth Carnival, he gets to party here. He's probably going to head there. I'm hearing Buckaroo might head there for the railway and the northerly. So, you might have to get back there. I'll be in Hong Kong, mate. Oh, yes. You can do still. There's three weeks of the Carnival. Point Barrow was impressive in the Northwood Plume Stakes, Hutchie. What did you make of her? She defeated Nafe from Bridal Waltz. After the early pressure a little bit on Bridal Waltz, she wanted to be on Point Barrow a long way from home. Oh, you can see it a long way out.
Speaker 4It was almost like a copy and paste of the last time they met, I thought. You know, I thought if. Actually, I said on Get On, Des, if Point Barrow's within four lengths of him at the 400, it's all over. And I thought they'd string out a bit more, but they didn't. But, no, you wanted to be on Point Barrow a long way from home. She's very good. She's got a great turn of foot. And, yeah, they're going to the 1100 race down the straight, so she'll run well there and she'll be a big chance.
Speaker 3Gator? Yeah, she's well proven up the straight, isn't she? She was too good for Karuna that day, so that ties the four minutes of the jigsaws of this world. So, yeah, she's a ripper. She's like a. Yeah, she sits back, stays for one run and has a powerful finish. It's not as if Swoop has had a great day. So I think that win had a lot of merit, because they didn't go overly hard either, four and a half lengths below. So, Bridal Waltz, she's so genuine. They're actually 2-1 now. They've clashed three times. That's advantage Point Barrow, 2-1. I think that the key to Bridal Waltz, you know, is probably good four or wetter. Now, as we got up to a good three, I think it advantages Point Barrow a bit over her. And Jean Mayfield was a good return as well. She trod well into this prep, so there's probably a good little race in her, too.
Speaker 2Pay the believers for Persian spirit. I don't know if there was too many. Obviously, there was a few. It was backed again in the weekend. Hustler, Gator, and Defeat is departing. Regal, Soos. But it was good to see him get that win, Persian spirit.
Speaker 3Yeah, sure. Yeah, I'd sort of dropped off to him a bit. He hadn't exactly been flying, but I think the money came because of the mat. You know, just sitting behind him, nothing swooping. You know, he's genuine. You know, he loves any track service. 1,400 is perfect. And he was sitting behind her, you know, at just an even speed. We'll see what happened. He was quite strong late the last bit, though. And he had a fitness edge on Stapardi and a weight advantage. So, we're all smart after the race. Regal, Soos led, held on well. First force at 1,245. I think it adds to the merit of the run of Harry's Yacht, who they were trying to sit close, but didn't quite pan out. And then Zudo, who's come back really well, also ran on well against the pattern of the race.
Speaker 4Hutch? Yeah, I mean, I thought the last race looked very, very hard on paper. And somehow I fluked putting it on top, Persian Spirit. I didn't get involved in the race. And I was interested to see, like Gatiss, there was good money and maybe it was a map thing, but I didn't have anything on him. He's got me too many times. But he did deserve the win. And I'm starting to think now, whilst I thought he might have something better in him, I think that's about his level.
Speaker 2Yes. So, Quinn was good? Yeah. That filler, yeah. She was just far too good for her rivals. I know you were really keen gator.
Speaker 3Yeah, that was a smart win, wasn't it? you know, she settled better, which is real key. Her first two runs with perhaps she has not done that and still run really well in hot races um so they would have left the track pretty excited with what they saw there she's she's very much on the upward spiral you know she's run good time uh relative to point barrow and she actually run quicker you know albeit off of you know three lengths faster first half of the race so factor that in um but a really nice win substance on the clock hutch
Speaker 4terrific i mean once again i know i'm singing his praises a bit but this is a horse that's very light mouth can do a lot wrong somehow j mac managed to get in for a bit of cover it was probably only for about a furlong but for a horse that for the last two starts in sydney has had nothing go right and and is not an easy ride he made it look pretty easy and i think part of that um look the sequin had plenty on that field yeah let's be honest but it'd be a really really good experience for her um and she's well bred and she she's a hard to bivouac and you know just settling she put that race away as she should have with ease and she was another one that i was surprised so i know the money came a little bit but on her form she she was well
Speaker 2clear yeah really in can i start how good can he be he just keeps on he just does what he needs to do in a way he was pretty good in that first race the benchmark race he is untapped yeah he is like
Speaker 4i haven't seen many horses for a while sort of stop like he well actually i say that in skybird nearly did the other day but you know when he hits the front he just plays with him really he had the race he won so easily um you know uh he hit the front and put the brakes on and you just think well what is under the bonnet there he's
Speaker 2the perfect one when you look at his data you think well that's who he is but there's so much more like yeah there's a lot that
Speaker 3we haven't seen people with ratings yep correct yeah um gator yeah it's a great example isn't it of where the data leaves you short you know um because the you know that's our job to find the race not after so he's um his ceiling is immeasurable really and as well not as if that was your average hack benchmark 80 race so a three or four really promising gallopers in that um and he won it well softly 143 had him what uh three and a half lengths above all averages not just a class average so again a pretty quick day with the wind and firm track but um all are real points still aren't they
Speaker 2yeah hutchy horses to find on a keep gator because i'm gonna ask him a couple of questions and then we can but um you're a busy man this morning so what horses do we need to be following from that i think from a
Speaker 4benchmark point of view that first race or yeah that first race will work out pretty well yeah um and outside of that do you know
Speaker 2what if i gave you a hundred dollars today can i try and read your mind if i gave you a hundred dollars i'd have something on blind race yes i was about to say that yeah eleven dollars i mean it's eleven dollars right it's
Speaker 4double the price i don't i don't i can understand war woven being half half his quote but um i just think i don't know i don't know i don't know if i can understand war woven being half his quote there was not much between them really and like i said i think there was a lot of merit in both runs war woven's a super horse and i think blind race might be
Speaker 2too yeah good on you mate enjoy pickleball tonight
Speaker 4no i'm too busy oh
Speaker 2no you you're making your debut on the um emergencies looking forward to that i've got
Speaker 4to go and get some makeup on get some makeup on you've had a glow up too gareth um
Speaker 2you know what i've got to go and get my facial again i missed that last week but you should try i'll give you the yeah yeah yeah do that i've got calvin mackerel boy onto it since he's been joining us here on giddy up it's actually like a it's more relaxing than a massage these days i reckon on that note i'll let you go hutchie thanks for that time for a break we'll continue on with the breakdown with um gator straight after
Speaker 1this join the conversation text us on 0 4 double 9 7 3 6 7 3 6 live across australia this is giddy up with gareth hall
Speaker 2welcome back to giddy up david gately gareth hall as we break down up in caulfield but we'll have a quick look at rose hill on saturday i think the best race that i want to talk about that roman consul stakes gate how good is this philly satana glow she was enormous
Speaker 3again yeah she's um quite brilliant isn't she um i loved her late strength it was a strong speed which certainly helped her but um she she was quite dominant and and again similar to flemington where she ran much quicker time and again she was quite dominant and again similar to flemington where she ran much quicker time and paradoxium for some reason all the money came in probably a map thing i think but um you know she was one that had those races been run together she would have beaten him easily she beat him easily again yeah um but the late strength was there so no tab everest for her but um she'll go to the coolmore and um i think she should be at least equal favorite yeah
Speaker 2attrition was too good for lindeman to win another hill stakes there on saturday yeah
Speaker 3that seems to be his race every year he was it was a good chase wasn't it because lindeman can be difficult to get past um and he nutted him right on the line cost us a big a big parlay but um it's not about me no
Speaker 2any other horses that you want to be following out of
Speaker 3that meeting uh in
Speaker 2sydney yeah yeah i
Speaker 3like the return of jerry and gongi she's tough she covered a lot of ground and still won she's flying for that new stable uh nepo baby there's a winning in that horse and ellipsis in the last so yes certainly for the rest of the race i think it's going to be a good race i think it's going to be a um yeah so there's a few there how
Speaker 2good's cooker cashly he's unbeaten three-year-old now for team hawks the philly by exceedance yeah similar
Speaker 3to encounter star we just don't know what the ceiling is but it's it's higher than where we're at yeah you know you couldn't have asked for a better run rails trial moderate speed gets a rails run wins by a decisive margin but you know i looked at that and thought okay solid other people raving and i thought then i went back and looked at the clock and go okay there's there's some real substance there as well so um it's It's the upside, though, that is the real key to that horse.
Speaker 2And Proxima Dea is a winner. She wins again, defending Wonka. Cormier was fourth. And poor old Stormy Marco looked like he was going to win. He gets beaten less than half a length and finishes fifth.
Speaker 3Yeah, half a length over five of them. It tends to tell you a lot, doesn't it, that there's not a lot between them. But she just looks like she'll get further and further, Proxima Dea. She took ages to wind up, but she was as strong as anything on the line. And she looked like she was going to run fifth of the 100.
Speaker 2Yeah. Goodness gracious me, those were the famous words of Bill Collins when Dandy Andy rolled Vaux-Rogue at 125 to one. Land legend will go down in history with Dandy Andy. He's one of the all-time great upsets on the Australian turf. A truly special moment. Hey, Gail, I've got two questions for you. Do you think Willie Pike zigged when he should have zagged on Ray McNeerio?
Speaker 3Oh, look, with the benefit of hindsight, they would have done something different because he had no luck.
Speaker 2Yeah. What did you make of Hedley Grange as well?
Speaker 3No luck for you. No luck, yeah.
Speaker 2Simply sensational moment was land legend. Extraordinary front-running performance. To have the courage to take up the running at such a fast pace. Hats off to Ethan Brown. To ride the race to win and not lob around conceding to she's alibi. Too good and just try and get some prize money. Brilliant tactics. Caught the others off guard. Totally agree with that SMS there from Edgy. Land legend, pride of Jenny Lott, infantryman. The three most daring front-runners in the sport. All from the same stable. Are you surprised you don't see more of these type of tactics, Gator?
Speaker 3Well, look, it's not all. You've got to be a certain type of athlete, right? So, not many. There's not many that can run 13 lengths above and hang on and win. Yeah. You know? And Light Infantryman didn't win, but he ran really well. And the other two, you know, win. And then. So, you've got to. It's not just. They're not motorbikes. You can't just do it on any athlete.
Speaker 2No. Trombolt just didn't handle it. He didn't handle Caulfield well. He will bounce back and get into Flemington, the car buying club, 1600. He'll eat them alive and turn into a Usain Bolt. That's from Ange. I think you're on the same page there. Lady Shenandoah, well and truly a miler. Gator, did Chris Waller get it wrong the last couple of seasons with her, trying to make her a sprinter?
Speaker 3Oh, Waller was a $20 million reason why they tried that. Yeah. But, yeah, that's just not her. Again, you know, we're related to human athletes. Come back to 100 or 200 if you're an 800-meter runner and you've probably got a problem.
Speaker 2I've seen a fair bit of commentary about Luke Nolan's ride on She's Alibi. I didn't see anything wrong with the ride. Races run like that. Find out most horses. In recent memory, with pride of Jenny doing it to most. The only thing I thought that was coming around the turn, he seemed to lose maybe a link trying to go around Birdman. Could he have gone inside around the turn and maybe saved the ground? Maybe would have been held up if he did anyway. Not sure what jocks are meant to do. I can't believe the criticism of Luke Nolan. I thought that. Under the circumstances, with that tempo in her first go at 2,000 meters, knowing at the back of his mind that, like, there is a golden eagle in three weeks' time, I think he rode it perfectly.
Speaker 3Yeah, I think we look for things that aren't there. Yeah. You know, sometimes you just fall 0.002 seconds short. He was into a 600 out 700, and she just wasn't. She didn't immediately respond. Yeah. And quick and. And that's where she was brought under. Her last 100 was fabulous. Yeah. But that's going to be a problem for 1,500, I think, still.
Speaker 2Good on you, Gator. You have a wonderful day, mate. I can't wait. It's the biggest game plan of the year, nearly, on Thursday with the Evereston and the Caulfield Cup to preview.
Speaker 3Yeah, can't wait for that.
Speaker 2Thanks, mate. Good on you, mate. There's David Gately. It's quickly approaching 8.58. Karting Rising had his final gallop, his final strong gallop this morning at Canterbury. So we'll catch up with Nick Ashman. And also, Kiramar and James, McDonald in the next half an hour here on Giddy Up.
Speaker 1join the conversation text us on 0 4 9 7 3 6 7 3 6 live across australia this is giddy up with
Speaker 2gareth hall welcome back to giddy up it's a busy 30 minutes coming your way we'll have a quick chat to nick ashman who was at track work this morning to watch kane rising and then straight after that kira marvel join us and then james mcdonald so it's a big 30 minutes coming your way before we have a chat to wayne hawks and johnny o'neill for the monday means test but nick ashman thanks to the beaten favorite.com joins us here on giddy up hello nick
Speaker 7hello gee yeah busy morning out of canterbury this morning with car ying strutting his stuff and uh a post gallop chat with david hayes which was geez he gave us some
Speaker 2good information in that interview so just um just with that i'm looking at the norwegian um weather report and this is the weather report that i trust wednesday two you on wednesday six meals thursday six meals friday 14 meals saturday 37 meals is david hayes concerned
Speaker 7well look he said the two things were that he said he said look soft no issue but he said he made this really good point that the heavy track or the wet rain affected track in hong kong is different to australia the grass over there is tighter yeah so for him being a daisy cutter and that's referring to the action of the horse that tighter grass is better uh when it gets wet so he said i'm a little bit uh or zach in particular is a bit concerned if the track was to get deep into that heavy range as it can do at manly particularly with rain on race day so as you've just touched on there's sort of up to 55 mil throughout the week and possibly rain on race day as well so i think really if we can if that rain on race day disappears everyone will be convinced that we'll get back to the soft range even if we get a deluge during the week it's all about what happens on saturday really and depending on which bureau you trust uh it's you probably won't have a real good guide until friday
Speaker 2okay it's going to be fascinating weather watch because of what zach's been telling us regarding that he is a query maybe on a real rain affected track calling rising um how did david compare him to this time last year yeah this
Speaker 7was another point that he made as well now we all know any ratings analyst knows that kane was well off his best last year he still got away and won by more than the length but he's he was sort of about three lengths below his standard run in hong kong and i think five or six lengths off his absolute best at the time so he was well below that top figure um this year david sort of made the point that he's a fair bit heavier but in a good way this time uh he's a bit he's a bit heavier that said they've also been able to do more work with him so you get the impression that the camp feels as though he's traveled here better this year he's settled in better they're better as a camp for the experience that they had with him last year he's got five handlers on him at all times which is remarkable most horses sort of have one handler to four or five horses he's got five on one they're confident that the horse is going to go out and be better than he was 12 months ago the only real query is that really wet track and and whether or not he gets through it but um he was good in the gallop mate he ran about 36 seconds for his last 600 meters and he was doing it real easy so i only saw him for the first time last year and he did look better this year in the coat just in himself
Speaker 2barry draw tomorrow um i i guess k rising it doesn't really matter where he draws
Speaker 7well there's not a lot of pace in the race five or nine winners so far since he ever started in 2017 a jump from gate six or wider including k ying last year what one of the interesting stats from a position in run is uh if you look at it um more than 50 of the winners gareth of the ever so far have been in the first three in running so it is a good race for those on paces obviously redzel and k ying and two of the horses but also nature strips in there as well and i think think about it was pretty handy so um i think it's proven to be a good race for on paces it really just going to come down to that weather report on saturday morning but geez you look good for tempted fans out there though the wet is a good thing she loves a bit of cutting the ground and it'll probably help the inside chop out but the glaringly obvious stat and i hate to drink it dig out something like this no four-year-old has ever won the everest yes there
Speaker 2you go well that might change there on saturday we're about to have a chat to tempted trainer kiramar he's on the line right now but we appreciate that update nick and we can um read all of your work on the beaten favorite.com and of course watch it tonight on foxcatcher thanks legend good on you brother there's nick ashburn there and kiramar joins us kieran good morning to you we just had a report there with nick aspen regarding the work from rising this morning um but the big talking point was this weather in sydney it might be it might be um the the kid the conditions might suit your mayor come saturday and jimmy star for that matter i
Speaker 8am morning all um i just like the way nick ashman signed off there he said thanks legend yes yes yes you disagree with him oh he said thanks legend he's just given
Speaker 2a bit of for the land legend yeah a hundred percent um well you're a legend i'm going to get to um land legend in just a moment but um have you looked at that weather report there in sydney or you just um wait and see what happens
Speaker 8there on saturday um yeah it does look um well if it's dry i don't think we've got any chance at all if it is wet um we give ourselves a bit of hope and jenny and not jenny jimmy and tempted word work this morning yeah um work lovely beautiful um they should yeah i think they're going to line up like as good as i can have them hopefully um certainly at this stage yeah and uh if there is a bit of juice around uh it gives us it gives us a glimmer of hope yeah what
Speaker 2about pride of jenny how did she work this
Speaker 8morning jenny's super um she's in great nick actually i've been wrapped with all winter and wrapped with her all this prep we give her a good sharp piece last week because we knew we were traveling this week so she just had a tick over today but deck was on her and uh he said you know all the normal things and um she felt great and she'll be ready to go can she wink can
Speaker 2she beat autumn glow and char wolf can we start the
Speaker 8dream kieran well you probably you probably couldn't say
Speaker 2she can't no no it's big be interesting seldom glade goes on a rain affected track as well i don't think she likes it as much as she does on top of the ground so i mean jenny's performed in it before i think charles might be the big winner if the rain comes but um there might be four in that race i reckon it's going to be a great
Speaker 8spectacle i did i did enjoy um hearing last week that chris was going to have to um yeah okay autumn glades training in a little bit i did i did quite enjoy that
Speaker 2you probably gave it away too early kieran you should have waited when it was too late so he he couldn't um he didn't have time to train change her training um routine but did you find that did you find that interesting ah
Speaker 8it's always interesting um no gareth we want the the opposition at their absolute
Speaker 2best yes yes i love it and i tell you what kieran um you are at the top of your game you've had a wonderful career but your team is firing at the moment including land legend who caused one of the big upsets in the mind power stakes on saturday and this is how he did it 350 meters
Speaker 5to go with kings with the outside birdman trying to get there two and a half off them and then she's an alibi still with a lot to do land legend 200 ago a length kingswood then birdman now she's an alibi closing land legend 100 ago still a length of the court at kingswood she's an alibi thundering at land legend is it going to be too late yes it is what a race
Speaker 2um when did you think that he was a chance of pulling off one of these upsets this great upset there on saturday
Speaker 8kieran uh i thought he was a chance i thought he was a chance to run a run a good race when he was going up the hill and he looked happy i know he was going quick but he actually looked controlled and not out of control and he has one of his best figures for us was on a three at flemington so i knew the track would suit and you know dry track small field you know he just got things obviously to his liking but he is everyone knows he's a quirky horse and can be a bit silly so in those bigger fields when there's a lot more pressure to get a position he's usually not the quickest in the gear um you know you have to press him to go forward and he doesn't really the rider and settle at all he just keeps going faster so the setup of the small field really suited the good track and brownie just got those nice even sectionals and um you know you can't really say the other horse was unlucky but the horse um she was probably unlucky she ran into him i suppose on the day but he he has broke the record
Speaker 2yeah he's going he's gone out of this world um and you're not backing him up in the call field cup is that right well just
Speaker 8going off what i just said yeah you know going into the first quarter Horner at the Caulfield Cup, it's a bit of a charge. And that's sort of the setup that gets him unraveled. So, yeah, whether it's the Cox champions and then possibly over to Hong Kong for the VARs, 2400, see what they can do over there.
Speaker 2But he's a horse that I love your interview straight after the race. You thought, well, he's been telling us he doesn't like to be held up. So just let him be happy
Speaker 8and let him go. Yeah, well, that's sort of, it's crucial in most horses races, you know, like they have to travel sweetly. They have to relax to then give their best and conserve some sort of energy. But, and you could see that, you know, like it was a good ride. And, you know, he's, he's sort of, yeah, it was just smooth and he needed that. Well, you know, she's an alibi as a bloody good horse and almost beat him, you know, took him down to the end. So good ride,
Speaker 2good result. When you do these speed maps and you try and work out a plan to try and win these races and you nearly pulled it off with Light Infantry Man the other day in the Turnbull, you did it with Land Ledge and the Might and Power. And we're seeing Pride of Jenny do it on so many of it. On so many occasions before, Kieran. And is it a, like, did you, when you were talking about the planning going into this contest, did you think that this horse would be able to do what he did and have that element of surprise there where he might get everyone off guard with the way that he could gallop out in front like he did there on Saturday?
Speaker 8Well, yeah, the, it didn't surprise me. You know, you're not going to win pulling. And but, you know, your horse has to be fit. You know, it has to be really hard fit to do that. So you've got to have the right prep to be able to do that. And everything just sort of fell into place, well, obviously, on Saturday. But, you know, Light Infantry Man's the same. I think I ran him in a benchmark hundred. You know, he ran a third. And then, you know, you go, how can he come out in a Turnbull and nearly win it? And the horses are rated 30 points higher. And we did it with another Will also. You know, he ran in a benchmark race and then come out to stakes, you know, in the Maccabi Diva and ran a huge race. So it's about that. It's sort of it's more about the preparation than more so. You've got to have the right prep to do those sort of things.
Speaker 2Yeah. So we might see him in the Cox Plate, but he'll go to the Champions Stakes, Champions Stakes there at Flemington on the final day, that Flemington Carnival, and then maybe trip to Hong Kong.
Speaker 8Yeah, yeah, that's right. Obviously, Mr Ho owns, he's Hong Kong owned. And it's normally a very fast track over there. And he likes that. He might be a bit of a terror around Chartin, but we'll see how we go.
Speaker 2Jeez, Chocolates was a run and a half in a Herbert Power. You must be excited to get her to Flemington on this first Tuesday, November now.
Speaker 8I was wrapped with her. She was always going to get back. You could just say it was a real, like, two mile run, wasn't it? Like, she's had the grounding, the races have been spaced, she's got no weight, and, yeah, she's primed to run a big race. Are you starting to believe that she could win it now? Well, her prep is going to be pretty right, you know, and she's going to beat the handicapper, and they're two of the key ingredients. So, you know, one of the biggest things is, well, it doesn't matter how right or wrong your horse is, you know, you just need to be in that sweet spot of the race, you know, whether it's where that is, and you need the right momentum at the right time. And I would say, you know, she's definitely a chance. Yeah. It's the beauty of the race, you know. You've got your handicappers meeting you, waiting for age horses. It rarely happens anyway. It happens everywhere else, but that's why the Melbourne Cup is what it is.
Speaker 2Is she your best chance now, you reckon? Has she surpassed Middle Earth?
Speaker 8I think Middle Earth is super chance. Yeah. So, they're both pretty good chances.
Speaker 2Yeah. There's a few questions coming through, and we probably haven't got all morning with you because you're in red-hot form, and there's so many questions to ask you. But we might ask you about Warnie. What would you make if he's running a Turak, and where does he go to next?
Speaker 8Well, Warnie, the setup for him, as I was just talking about, you know, in the Melbourne Cup, the setup for him is a bit like a point barrow, and he's a bit like Jimmy Starr. Yeah. You know, he needs speed on, he needs clean air, and then he flies, you know. And I thought he ran very, very well, considering all that. Yeah. There was a bit of argy-bargy with him and Mark and James, I think. Yeah. Because there wasn't a lot of room, but, and he's probably not that sort of horse, so I thought he's run really well. And I just think he's still getting there. He could look a bit better. So, he has won a Damien Oliver down the straights, Flemington, or Scruton, not down the straights, 1400. And the other race that he ran well in is called the Supernova. I think he won. Yeah. Big tracks, packing them. So, those sort of will be his targets.
Speaker 2What would you make? Are you getting his horses?
Speaker 8Well, they weren't good enough. No. No. I think the winner and the second horse were standouts. And I thought Mark's horses, like he said during the week, he said it's a good horse, but it's just not seasoned enough to, like, your way-wovens, they're sort of, and your blind raises, they're seasoned horses that are, yeah, and you can see Mark's horse. So, what's it called? Call me Coach Freeman's horse. He's good, but it's just not there yet.
Speaker 2Can any of those three-year-olds, like a blind raiser or a wall-woven, win a Cox Plate? No. No. Why?
Speaker 8Because it's going to be run at a very hot tempo.
Speaker 2Yeah. Yeah. Is that because you've got light infantrymen and maybe, of course, playing legend?
Speaker 8Well, I suppose they could. You know, the three-year-olds have a great record, but, you know, when, like, seasoned horses, it's tough when races are run like that. Who's the horse that beat in the Cox Plate then? Well, Sir Dilius will improve again, I reckon. And he's a good horse and, you know, he's been hitting his mark where his target is. He's passed a couple of preps and I think he'll be still the one. Infantry, if you get a shower of rain, you know, he'll be thereabouts.
Speaker 2Yeah. A few more questions coming through. The next episode, straight to the Cornwall?
Speaker 8Yes, at this stage, yeah.
Speaker 2How's he pulled up, Kieran?
Speaker 8Pulled up. Pulled up great, actually. He had a good grounding going in. And, you know, he's a good horse. Yeah, he ran a solid figure. And just running back two weeks and two weeks off a figure is hard, is very hard to do. So we thought we had him pretty right when he ran first up. So we thought it's too risky to run again.
Speaker 2Yeah. Umbrella Racing's flying. This is your micro-share business. You've got now and your star of the show, Early Doors, is over the bridge. And you're going to the Thousand Guineas with her. How is she?
Speaker 8Well, she's super, actually. Mark Galloper this morning and he said, you know, like, he'd go to a 1200 or he'd go to the Guineas. She's clean-winded and she's got, you know, beautiful action. So just to really confuse myself, we're going to nom her in the Blue Sapphire over 1200, the Gothic over 1400 and the Thousand Guineas over 1600. And then try and work it out.
Speaker 2All right. And so she's not a lock for the Thousand Guineas then?
Speaker 8Yeah, I was sort of thinking that way. But let's run her in that, mate. It is. Mark's just sitting here. He said, let's run her in that. I've got rides in the other two.
Speaker 2Oh, OK. So he wants to ride her in the Thousand Guineas.
Speaker 8Thousand Guineas. And that's sort of a plug in itself, you know. you know, and stepping up, and he's happy to stay with it. yeah she's progressive that's for sure so unbridled yep get on we've got an amazing journey there can he win a golden eagle he definitely can win a golden eagle he was a good trial the other day behind Kai Ying Nash sort of strangled him a little bit in the mid stages but his sectionals late were very good so yeah he's really thrived since getting to our stable as well
Speaker 2beautiful can he beat she's alibi yes and what do you make of she's alibi obviously Moods was interesting with his comments saying that Land Legend will never beat her again but from a trainer's perspective I'd love to get your insights here like how difficult will it be now for them to get her after that run there on Saturday in a track record time to freshen her up to the 1500 metres in three weeks time well Moods
Speaker 8you know he's a he's a superstar trainer and if anyone can do it he can do it 100% but it would be a tough enough task coming off a record and I think that is key I remember Emilia's duel beat Prida Jenny in the yeah
Speaker 2Moonee Valley Friday night
Speaker 8it was the Fian
Speaker 2no it wasn't the Fian it was that mayor's race on that Friday night yeah I know what race you're talking about stock stakes the stock stakes yeah that's it
Speaker 8100% so she she beat Jenny they both broke the record I think or at least Emilia's dream did or jewel what was it
Speaker 2Emilia's jewel yep
Speaker 8Emilia's jewel and she she struggled to find her best form again ever after that yeah so look she's an otherwise super horse and she's got a huge future but it'll be a tough enough tough
Speaker 2I'm cool for your cup on Saturday how many runners oh four field cup five five who's your best chance maybe six six okay who's the maybe maybe
Speaker 8Juju Kibbo okay yeah maybe point of law on the verge yeah yeah
Speaker 2hey um Saran got beaten nearly 20 lengths why can he win the the Caulfield Cup he got beat 20 lengths of course nearly in that in that Turnbull
Speaker 8stakes um I think I did a little bit much work with him leading in yeah um maybe the wet track wasn't to his liking and I and I have applied in tongue tie as well so maybe a combination of all three is he
Speaker 2your best chance St. George is at 13 it's Craig Williams you got Royal Supremacy our man Jamie Spencer gets the right um who would be your best chance I
Speaker 8reckon Royal Supremacy has got a really solid chance I think Kings Valley has got a solid chance of the weight and then you've got I reckon George and Saran they probably have the right form well and they say right form if you take out the last race um and I think they will bounce back to form um so there's not a lot between them really
Speaker 2um in Cano Star how good is he he just like he just does what he needs to
Speaker 8do yeah well he he he's a bit casual actually like you can see he clocked off at the at the hundred meter mark you know like it was actually good that he went for the other worked around him because he's so raw that you can see his ears pricked and you know he's pricking his ears the last hundred and really switched off so which is not a good thing you know you want horses to gallop through the line but he is doing it like basically with a leg in the air so yeah he is a good horse I think he's the owners have had his action wasn't there as a young horse and now that's one of his best attributes so he probably has a break now I think and we'll get him ready for the autumn but yeah he's certainly very progressive
Speaker 2well well done on the weekend again Kieran good luck in the build up to the cool field cup and the Everest teams on fire at the moment and you just producing amazing results so well done again and good luck this weekend especially thank you very much there's the champ Kieran Ma James McDonald to join me next join
Speaker 1the conversation text us on 04 double 9 736 736 live across Australia this is giddy up with Gareth Hall welcome back
Speaker 2to giddy up Gareth Hall with you great to be with you on this Monday morning the means test isn't far away the champion who James McDonald joins me on this Monday morning after a big day at the office there on Saturday hello to you J Mac I'm very well we're going to talk through now the group one handicap you're aboard and we can roll the replay here on racing.com as well because I want you to talk us through this race as they swing for home you held up at the moment in between Warnie and also Sun God
Speaker 9yeah it didn't look promising to be fair I had Hal Singh I think it was on my outside the one of Annabelle's and Rob's and I thought he would have dropped off a little bit earlier than we anticipated and I thought I was on the good spot at the 600 and a very sticky spot at the 400 so she had to be very good to burst through a tight and narrow gap but she was full of running and just ridden a little bit conservative especially in a handicap situation she
Speaker 2showed explosive turn of foot you know so was that the plan with 58 on her back to get a strong mild that you needed to ride her and hopefully get a little bit of luck yeah
Speaker 9yeah she was it just takes away her turn of foot a little bit so we thought we'd try something different obviously she's been racing so well at the top level for so long and we just had to try something different and Chris was very open to that idea of giving her a chance early and just off an awkward gate as well but she would be able to race a little bit closer if we had to but as it turned out it was a great day all
Speaker 2around yeah like what do you think she'll do now does she go to an empire rose do you know that yeah I think she is I
Speaker 9think that's her next logical target I reckon she'll be extremely hard to beat in that sort of race she obviously drops a kilo in weight I think they carry 57 all the years and yeah she's as good as Mira in the country at the moment obviously over that sort of trip that will be heading that way obviously the golden girl will be there but Lady Shenandoah has beaten her before over a mile so it will be a good contest yeah
Speaker 2and talking about pride of Jenny I'm just having a look at this Norwegian website J Mac 37 mils on Saturday
Speaker 9that can't be
Speaker 2right that's what they're telling me I've got it in front of me Friday 14 mils Thursday 6 mils this website is usually pretty good would you be nervous if it was a heavy track for Autumn Glow I
Speaker 9prefer past the ground obviously it's so dynamic but she has raced on one heavy 10 before and she beat a very good wet track of that day it's not like she can't go in it so I wouldn't be too worried about it if it was in the slow range but yeah I wouldn't want a heavy track but anyway it is what it is she'll be lining up no matter what are you happy to see Jenny in that
Speaker 2race yeah at least it will set a good
Speaker 9pace yeah aim up at something she's very good chaser and as we've seen in the past she can hunt down anything that's in front of her and just over the mile it's a completely different scenario at a high pressure mile than a high pressure 2000 she'll lap it up
Speaker 2are you scared of char wolf with blinkers on
Speaker 9he'll be a worthy competitor that's for sure he'll be tough to beat he's racing in career best form and he loves, obviously, soft ground. He loves Bram with mile. But I wouldn't swap the glow for him.
Speaker 2What about Zach and Cain Rizey? He says if it rains and it's worse than a slow six, seven, that he'll be a little bit nervous. Like, what are you thinking, J-Mac? Is he BS? Is he like, like, you know him better than anyone. Is he playing mind games with everyone, Zach?
Speaker 9He is. It seems funny. Like, last year, Zach was so negative about the horse, and then Rizey was positive, and this year it's swung around a little bit. Zach's a little bit more positive about the horse, and Rizey's was a little bit more negative. they play the game so well they've got great confidence in the horse and look nothing will beat them on fast ground we all know that but I suppose that's an element of unknowing if it is a heavy he is beatable but I'll believe it when I see it I think he's doesn't matter what about
Speaker 2your mare, Jolly Star on a heavy track or a slow track
Speaker 9she'll be fine, I know it's been well publicised that she hasn't really doesn't really like it but as she's got older she's actually probably appreciated this thing out of the ground a bit and she's trained to the minute she galloped this morning at Rose Hill she went really well she's a runner's chance but we need probably the two favourites to stub their toe a little bit and we might be jogging on the spot but you never know it's a horse race so anything can happen
Speaker 2um what about Pinhole he doesn't go to a Caulfield Cup geez Guy Modcast he got this one right with buying this horse I think in the UK recently last year or the year before and he's a could he be competitive in a Melbourne Cup this horse or is it too early yeah the guy's a
Speaker 9he was walking out there like a peacock the other day he said I bought Lady Shenandoah I bought Pinhole he was strutting around so no he's done a good job there he's a good guy nice progressive horse yeah I don't know he's um he hasn't got a foot wrong this preparation Pinhole and he won he won a good lead up race there the other day um whether the Melbourne Cup comes around a little bit early in his career I think he's still got a bit of learning to do he travels firmly on the bridle but um you can't deny his tenacity he finds the line but um he will improve this time next year that's for sure
Speaker 2what'd you make of the um might and power stakes um from a from a onlooker looking on yeah it was fascinating
Speaker 9they basically they basically uh it was a copy and paste of the Queen Elizabeth in Sydney wasn't it when you've got a such a dominant favourite that's obviously all her forms over a mile they're lightly raced they haven't had a a lung burner at that at that at that test of 2000 metres so um it was a test for she's an alibi I thought I thought she lost Noah Myers I thought she was phenomenal and I thought she was phenomenal and Gellan's in defeat so um I think she run it out well she's just unfortunate that you know um like I've said about Autumn Glow if it was a Rambit Stakes sort of scenario she wins she runs 2000 and wins the Rambit Stakes every day of the week but um yeah obviously that testing 2000 it makes it a bit tougher but I think it would she'll bounce out of that next year and run 2000
Speaker 2on her year she's an alibi Aliana to the Cox plate you must be looking forward to that yeah yeah looking forward
Speaker 9to the Cox plate um to lock in a ride but um see how the cards fall over the next week and um see what Chris wants to do um but yeah she'll be looks a good chance same with Autumn Boy okay I think you'll have a few in the race
Speaker 2so don't I James you tell Chris who you want to be riding you'll go I want to be on Aliana I suppose you've got a few options but um so surely she looks illogical I think she's very hard to beat
Speaker 9yeah she does yeah yeah she just seems to be um there's a sense of timing about her preparation and her run the other day was awesome by the looks of it and it figures back down up too
Speaker 2yeah sounds like um Chris doesn't want to go to the Melbourne Cup with Aliana um reading a report there on racing.com did you read that James did it surprise you
Speaker 9yeah I read that too yeah well it's not complete stud I suppose but um yeah I did read the same yeah same article but that means has Guesty got Joseph
Speaker 2O'Brien's number because you need a Melbourne Cup ride I would imagine now
Speaker 9I'd say I'd say he would if he hasn't I'd better be sending it to him
Speaker 2so have you been locked in for a Melbourne Cup ride or you're just waiting on Aliana not yet no
Speaker 9yeah just floating around
Speaker 2just hopefully be jogging on the spot somewhere okay but you're confident you'll get a ride uh yeah yeah alright then yeah um and what about um do you keep your cards close to you Chess I'm trying to see who's riding in a Melbourne Cup Johnny O'Neill's in love with you he wants to come on the show to say g'day because Wayne Hawks is thinking J-Mac's taking J-Mac's taking up my time you can come and say goodbye Kieran Maher
Speaker 9took up my time I know he speaks slow but geez he took a long time
Speaker 2yeah I know I apologise I apologise for that what about Johnny wants to say g'day hello great man
Speaker 10how are you how are you mate I'm really good buddy I'm really good don't worry we've got plenty of horses in the Melbourne Cup we've got you pegged so don't worry oh good just one of those sit and stares for you
Speaker 9yeah yeah have you bought anything out of Europe lately
Speaker 10yes we have we've had a bit of luck we've got that nice point of law so we're just trying to get him into the Cup I don't think he'd get into the Cup what about anything that's coming up we're worrying about the Melbourne Cup we'll win the Moonee Valley Cup and then into the Melbourne Cup anything coming up he said mate he'll be the first to know alright
Speaker 2tell him hey just quickly J-Mac before we let you go Sir Quinn was good the other day
Speaker 9she was great yeah no she's just telling a silly but very hard to ride she's just got this awkward head carry she goes keen but she's talented I think she runs on Thursday at Cup Week so I'm looking forward to Cup Week and obviously the next few weeks down to Melbourne it's going to be a brilliant carnival
Speaker 2and what about last question before we let you go what did Zara say to you when you took his run there on Warnie on Saturday he didn't say anything
Speaker 9I don't think he was too worried about getting suspended he didn't want to get time it's a busy time of year you don't want
Speaker 2to be in time poor old Luke Cartwright he's been so close in two group ones now it'll come for him but I thought he was home there with changing colours
Speaker 9he rode it well he rode it super too so mate his time will come that's for sure
Speaker 2we better let you go but let us know who you're going to be riding in the Melbourne Cup that would be much appreciated James as soon as I know I'll let you know yeah just before we let you go just before we let you go Tags has called in and said can you play did he and Spy you on Saturday after he said this before the odds couple on Saturday morning not quite what happened this this day 32 years ago how do you know Gary
Speaker 3well I just want to know a little boy a prono by the name D-Tag I'm sure I can't be captain hey and the Herb of Power and the Herb of Power
Speaker 2J-Mac couldn't do that and then you must have been inspired and thought well if you whatever you can do Tags I can do better
Speaker 9exactly right little Gary how do you know and your little boy
Speaker 2little boy you and you had to go and get a treble too poor old Tags he wanted something to go for you and now you've taken it
Speaker 9yeah well he'll still be there on the handle
Speaker 2yeah yeah well done Macca it was it was Jay MacDonald he's very best there on Saturday we appreciate your time and yeah good luck this weekend on such a big day on Everest Day good on you Jay have a good show thanks James MacDonald there the means test next join the conversation
Speaker 1text us on 0499 736 736 live across Australia this is Giddy Up with Gareth Hall the Monday Means Test with Wayne Hawks
Speaker 2and John O'Neill about for the Monday Means Test let's welcome in the team Wayne Hawks hello to you morning little Gary Cooker Cashley what a superstar she is is she a lisp no that's how you say it isn't it Cooker Cashley
Speaker 11we'll talk about her later yeah no it was it was good how are you I'm very well little Gary little Gary how do you know little Gary how do you know that was your man Jay Mac taking the PI double five out of you little Gary little Gary hey Johnny O'Neill
Speaker 2how are you going
Speaker 10I'm alright little Gary how are you
Speaker 2I'm very well
Speaker 10good good good
Speaker 2now there's so much to talk about so let's get stuck into the Kings Gambit and I don't know I don't know where to start with the Kings Gambit was I going to look ahead towards the Everest and the Caulfield Cup day on Saturday or we're going to talk about that that Caulfield Guineas which was a terrific race and we saw a couple of stars in Blind Rays and War Woven go at it where War Woven was successful but I'm going to talk about first of all this Might and Power Stakes where Land Legend took off to lead all of the way in defeat Cheese Alibi who was brave in defeat at her first go at 2000 metres and after we watch this replay we'll play you the grab of Peter Moody talking on Channel 7
Speaker 5350 metres to go with Kings Gambit Kingswood the outside Birdman trying to get their two and a half off them and then Cheese Alibi still with a lot to do Land Legend 200 to go a length Kingswood then Birdman now Cheese Alibi closing Land Legend 100 to go still a length at a quarter Kingswood Cheese Alibi thundering at Land Legend is it going to be too late yes it is Land Legend has won it
Speaker 6oh listen it was a tough run race wasn't it all honours to the winner we weren't quite good enough on the day probably a harder run than I wanted to for the sake of going to a mile race in three weeks but listen she's run good she's run gallant you know as long as his arse points to the ground he'd never beat her again but he's had his day in the sun hasn't he so that's life and we'll bounce back to fight another day well we followed Birdman and unfortunately he went terrible and we were going to use him to drag us into the race and it just didn't pan out so that's life we got beaten our merits well done to the connections of the winner and we've got to sort of regroup and go back to Sydney in three weeks and hopefully we can get the job done they're confident in their ability. Now, like I say, that run, the run of course, record time i would have liked the softer run today to go back to three weeks but we'll let her guide the path and see how she does love news he says it how it
Speaker 10is there johnny plenty to say please got plenty to say and and and he's entitled to i suppose but having said all of that um just worry about your own horse you know the horse has gone let me tell you the horse has gone around a dollar 30 and they're all telling me how good it went like you just want to spew all over yourself it went around a dollar 30 it didn't go around even money track record i mean yeah but that's okay i mean do you know what masterclass from kieran absolute masterclass yeah you've got two horses one's going to back to 1500 and in three weeks you've got birdman going to a cox plate off he goes he can't win a cox plate on that birdman mate please stop it well he can't he doesn't like oregon the top seven horses that are in the market yeah excluding cosmic crusader because he definitely can't win a cox plate but if it runs in the corfield cup on saturday it will and then backs up in the cox plate the week after and it wins hawksie don't bring me into this you and i got to do something we have to do something there isn't any chance that it's not northerly stop it it's not northerly can't win mate one thing i'll say about birdman if you have a look at the race that he trucked up behind pride of jenny last season he was chasing six or seven hundred meters out he needs to just truck into the race yeah without chasing and if you want my honest opinion ben went too early because he put a length and a half on cheese and alibi it came up on the outside and it just went see ya he went too early he should have waited a bit longer and it would have won high pressure
Speaker 2two thousand meter races you got light inventory man and let's just scratch him he can't win the cox plate i'm looking
Speaker 10forward to the cox plate yeah this is great i think there's six or seven chances in the cox plate both three year olds yeah i mean it's interesting war woven was extraordinary beyond blind race to beat war woven home next we'll get to that in
Speaker 11just a moment wayne your thoughts on that might and power stakes well first of all you couldn't see but when uh when johnny was listening that peter moody interview the uh the people watching uh the people watching on tv right now this is how his earphones went it was just like this it was quite amazing johnny had steam coming out of places i never knew well he's sticking
Speaker 10up for birdman what i'm
Speaker 11saying and you know what i have been in that situation where you get beat with a good horse and you know initially sometimes it's you're angry sometimes you're whatever there's a lot of emotion flowing before you go back and dissect and there's a great line never make a decision on race day okay go home have a sleep on it and whatever but uh peter was obviously uh quite fired up and she went enormous but didn't she
Speaker 10mate it started at $1.30 yeah i know what races everybody watching here like at the end of the day the pace was on this horse sat back at $1.30 and he was like oh my god i'm not gonna you should have blown him
Speaker 11away this is great well okay why so so that that that's that's one opinion another opinion would be that the winner jumped lead and you can take nothing away from the winner because it broke the track record itself it wasn't sitting back getting a suck cozy run so to run down to get beaten within 40 centimeters of a horse when they break the track record arguably she's an alibi has broken the track record in running second horses can't physically go any quicker than what uh than what she's an alibi did she definitely ran the 2000 meters out put it this way if she's a bob of the head the other way she's won and we're going oh does she run the 2000 out strong she just broke the track record so she she has run the 2000 this was exactly the same as autumn glow when they said oh she don't run 2000 crap she run the 2000 now she might have just been at the end of her preparation and she got beat two lengths so it was an amazing run from a pure training point of view i'm not going to lie to you it was an amazing run from a pure training point of view to give you the shits it'll give you the shits because you you dead set you dead set thought you you know they won't go hard she'll just jump lob outside the leader like everybody thought with this speed map there's another one of these bs things speed maps where was the speed map in that race she was going to park outside the leader and trot walk can a sprint home the last 600 it was going to be the easiest one million dollar race she's an alibi was ever going to run in it was a dollar 35 it was put in take out everyone had her one out in the quaddie all people went for the field yeah and exactly so at the end of the day she's had an absolute gut buster but all these great horses have gut busters every single week even though you think they're winning and they're winning well the the clock tells you they are having absolute gut busters and peter also admitted in that grab before that you know she probably had a harder run than what i wanted and she did the only upside is it wasn't in sydney so then they don't have to bring her home and then mess around with her for two weeks and then take her back so she's home she only had to go 45 minutes after the race back to her box and all that makes a difference so long-winded she ran absolutely amazing my line would be you know what unfortunately if you took the dollar 35 but she did everything bar win and in fairness she sort of won didn't she can she win the golden eagle off that run yes she can and and and i think the greatest bs line that people are going to go on about the next couple of weeks is going from 2000 back to 1500 why can't they who says they can't i mean there's no issue off that tempo yeah but but it'll be a different race and why it'll be a different race is what they won't go as hard but then in saying that they will because remember there was 16 in the uh in the golden eagle and then peter volandes and news race new south wales remember they invited that overseas horse and he was going to be second emergency so overnight they changed the race to be 20 runners no emergency so there's going to be 20 horses in that race they'll go lickety split like they do because bigger field sizes will create speed she'll be fine yeah all
Speaker 2right it'll win it'll win what can she win oh yeah yeah what price i mean i look at look at the
Speaker 10end of that the horse is a very very course it'll she's
Speaker 2a dollar 80 she's a dollar 80 hey we'll talk about more of this straight after this break this is the means test on this monday morning

Speaker 2back to giddy up on the gareth's horse and hound text line gareth hall johnny o'neill and wayne hawks with you how far is johnny up kieran's ass worry about your own horse it went shocking suggested from 2000 to 1500 will be a challenge wayne says that is nonsense who is right i guess we'll find out morning g and wayne johnny is a sook he lost me when he said cosmic crusader won't win a group one in melbourne it wasn't an opinion that day he was just putting the horse down glass house that's from scotty
Speaker 10thanks scotty and you were right mate as i apologized for last week but i will say one other thing yeah if it runs in the caulfield cup it can't win the cox play yeah
Speaker 2here's johnny o'neill saying worry about your own horses while talking about other horses every week remember cosmic crusader can't win i guess it's a little bit different but i think you're wrong about moods can have an opinion
Speaker 10about everyone can have an opinion on whatever they want i'm just giving you my opinion on what moods your jockey said that birdman was flat he did yeah he did i think he ran a record the start before what he won didn't he johnny flat when johnny runs over him johnny o'neill telling people
Speaker 2to worry about their own horses is hilarious what a guy is john suggesting nolan rode poorly no not
Speaker 10at all i'm just saying i'd think that the horse with the pace on was entitled to win just on that
Speaker 11why are people saying loot nolan rode that horse badly that that that is stupid no no no you got to call bs when it's bs and that is absolutely stupid they've nearly run a track record he was chasing chasing chasing now understand how many times we've said this on this show about pride of jenny she stuffs races up for the other horses and you were chasing didn't j mac get off one day in a queen elizabeth and blow up about every other jockey didn't cart j mac he said it was embarrassing correct so these horses that just go out in front and run like buggery i don't have an issue with that even if it stops up the races the ones that shit me right off are horses hang on horses jesus a bit of language here this morning are horses no no i get dirty on this yeah when jockeys and horses go out there and go lickety split they fall in a hole at the 300 and get tailed off and run last now you know what that's when it's annoying but these horses that jump go hard and keep running good on them for having a crack and there's a
Speaker 10good one here i just want to read and i think this is the answer well this is the answer to the question if birdman wins the cocks plate you have to go in the birdman rally yeah i will
Speaker 2100 and if it doesn't
Speaker 10run a place i have to go he won't win he won't win the cocks play okay so you're in the birdman rally yeah the birdman you know you're gonna go as little gary
Speaker 2all right then my mother-in-law my mother-in-law wants wayne's number she said he's looking elite that's from bradley on that
Speaker 1join the conversation text us on 0 4 double 9 7 3 6 7 3 6 live across Australia. Welcome back to the Monday Means Test on Giddy Up.
Speaker 11Yeah. Wow, Johnny O'Neill, you are on fire. There's a bit of pressure here. No, seriously, this is a fire brigade coming in because, folks, with these text messages that are coming in, you've got Johnny half rattled. Not fully, just half rattled with this.
Speaker 2I reckon the best text message saying that someone's mother-in-law has got the hots for you, Wayne. I reckon it's that, like, you don't look as orange sitting in that seat.
Speaker 11Oh, boy. Why is it over 60s want me? Where's the over 30s?
Speaker 2Come on. I love it, Johnny. I want him on my team. He sticks up for his own. I want him with me when I get home to the Y from the pub on a Saturday after being home four hours later than I said. He would make me look like a saint with the excuses and get me out of trouble.
Speaker 10And we know clearly that if he was home four hours later, he might have been helping some elderly ladies across the road or he could have picked up a sick dog and taken it to the vet to make sure it was okay. That's the only reason that gentleman would be home late.
Speaker 2Poor Johnny. Good on him for having an opinion of what makes the sport worthwhile. Keep it going. No other horses broke track records. But if you ask Moods if he'd be happy with his horse running under track record pre-race, he'd be stoked. Just beaten by a freak spike performance. Said he was beaten by a better horse, the key to the day. Time to take Ben Mellom off Birdman. I think that's a bit harsh. A bit harsh. A bit harsh or right? No, it's a bit harsh. He didn't do anything right. The horse wasn't good enough on the weekend. He just doesn't like it. What about people wanting to know what my hair will look like
Speaker 10after I plunge in the Yarra?
Speaker 11Yeah. The Birdman rally. You're going to have to go to the Yarra to cool down, brother. Yeah. You are. You're very angry today. I'm not angry.
Speaker 2I'm not angry. I'm just wanting. What are you?
Speaker 11What are you?
Speaker 2So you think Birdman can win a Cox Plate? Wayne, do you think he can win a Cox Plate? No. No. Land legend doesn't go to a Caulfield Cup with 52 and a half on its back. Does that surprise you?
Speaker 11No, not really. Because I actually heard Kieran Marr's interview earlier. And he's right. Caulfield Cup's a bugger of a start. It's like the Derby start at Flemish in the 25. You just run to that first corner. Someone invariably is always four wide outside the leader. And you've got to keep going forward. And one thing the land legend is, once you flick him on, there's no off switch. And that's what happened. And if you look at land legend, go and watch the replay when he went around one of those corners. He was four wide. I mean, he wasn't even hard up against the inside fence. Maybe he was wanting to be out. But he's a very, very difficult horse to ride. And I thought Ethan Brown, and I don't think many people have said this, I thought his ride was amazing because he is such a bugger of a horse to handle. And he handled him to serious perfection.
Speaker 2Hey, Johnny, Kieran's at the top of his game at the moment. He's just training winners for fun. And all of his horses are performing well. Training winners for fun? He is at the moment, yeah. What do you mean training winners for fun? Yeah. Well, that is a saying, Wayne. Is it? Yeah, I think so, isn't it? Little Gary, that's one of your sayings. Little Gary, yeah, yeah. I'll get to you in a moment, Wayne. Settle down. Johnny, so he's getting his tactics right. The element of surprise, he didn't quite pull it off there with Flight Infantryman last week in a Turnbull, but he did with Land Legend. Like, from a tactics point of view, would he talk to the owners about that? Obviously, he tried it with Gringotts, and it didn't work the other day. Not on Saturday, but the race before, yeah. So, like, you can train your horse to the minute, but the tactics, he seems
Speaker 10to be getting them right at the moment. One thing I will say, about him is that data team and the science team behind the scenes are the key to all of this. So, he has a really good understanding of, and people will look at me and say, are you serious? Like I am right now.
Speaker 11Are you serious?
Speaker 10Yeah, and the reason I say this is that he summarizes the races, the stride lengths, the pace of races. There is so much data that he puts into races. So, when we talk to him before the races, he's got a really good understanding of, I know we talk about speed maps and things like that, but he takes that and his team take control of that. So, they're in a position where they think the only way we can beat these horses is to ride like this based on all of the data and all of the information they've got. Now, this is again, it's not space age stuff, but it's a lot different to the traditional way that racehorse trainers have trained. And if I heard Catherine Coleman on the weekend when they were talking about data and stuff, she said, well, look, we train to the eye. That's how we do. And there's no doubt that that's right too. Peter Moody and, you know, he's a genius. He's trained. Hall of Famer, of course. And Catherine the same. So, the scenario is, it depends whether you want to get on the team or whether you don't. Some people will use data and they will continue to stick and they will be consistent. And whether people like it or whether they don't like it, Kieran's program and process and the team that he has around him, the results. The results, the results are speaking for themselves.
Speaker 11I'm putting my hand up like I'm, like I'm in year six at school, fair dinkum, righto. Excellent, excellent answer. Let's find the slowest ones he's got and let's, let's improve
Speaker 10them because you know what? But you know what?
Speaker 11The slowest ones he's got, he'll put in races. I'm not, I'm not bagging, but my, my, my, um, reverse psychology is this. Let's get the slow ones and see how we can improve, improve a slow one. Birdman, Land Legend, all these horses, these are all top class horses. I'm not a spoiler. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I'm talking about these horses, the light infantries, they're top horses.
Speaker 10One thing I want to tell you about the slow ones, Hawksy, and I don't know how many you've got, but we all have them. Right. The challenge, the challenge for owners with the slow ones is you get involved. It's a numbers game. There's no doubt. Right. But the challenge with the traditional process with the slow ones is there's no exit clause. It's just bad luck. It's just a numbers game. It's like, this is just a slow one. We paid 750,000. 40,000 for it. It's just slow. What I'm saying in these instances is the data that Kieran's got gives you that information. So I don't have it in work for another 18 months or two years. He sets it up.
Speaker 11So you need data to tell you that this horse is not that good. But the question I would ask
Speaker 10you Hawksy is how many times have you had horses that you would be in a position where we'll just tip it out and give it another prep. We'll tip it out and give it another prep. He looks at the data and the stuff and says, look, I don't think this horse can improve enough. So I'll send it to you. I'll send it to Adelaide. I'll send it to the gold coast. I'll send it somewhere to win. And then we move it on. And in those instances, when you move them on, just because they're slower to leap, Melbourne, Sydney doesn't mean they can't be nice horses in Cairns and in Darwin for people that want to buy those horses and have some fun. So the thing I like about his process is that you don't get caught with horses sitting there for 18 months or two years of training fees, trying to work out whether they're any good or not, which is a challenge everywhere.
Speaker 11But if you are being, if you're a racehorse trainer and you know what you're talking about, you know where you're at. Now, it's a bit like owners say, oh, just tell me the truth. Tell me the truth. Tell me the truth. You go, Gareth, it's no good. Got to get rid of it. They sack you. They keep the horse and they go and give it to someone else or they send it up the line or send it to a lesser jurisdiction. They sack you. They don't sack the horse. Yeah, I don't know. Look, you can use all these tools from a training point of view. You can use all these tools. But is it helping us slow? Horses go faster? And is it really giving you the extra 1%? It's the old Dennis Pagan line. Yes. North Melbourne AFL, the 1%.
Speaker 2But I think in the top level, when there's nothing between these horses, I think the advantage, if you get it right tactically, can be the difference between winning or losing.
Speaker 11Yeah, but after you've gone to 50 yards, you look at most horses in most races. If you're looking at that specific horse, you can tell straight away whether you're going to win or whether you're not going to win. I mean, we'll get to all woven in a minute. But when they went lickety split, all woven's run a fourth, fifth, and you go, mate, just get on at the half mile. Because fair dinkum, if it runs the mile out, it is just put in, put out.
Speaker 10But in the 2000 on Saturday, you were betting up on Chees and Alibi and Birdman 500 from home, I was. The other horse had gone that hard in front. I mean, they've rung a record. I'm thinking, well, it's gone. It's got to come back. It's gone. It's finished. And to be honest, I thought Birdman was going to get to second and Chees and Alibi would get over the top and beat him, which is pretty much what he did.
Speaker 11So we're pretty much where he did. Well, they've got to be 10th or 12th.
Speaker 10That's the other question.
Speaker 2Why don't, why don't, why don't you like, they were trying to hold him up to teaching because he's, it was massive in a Caulfield cup and he took off on Joe Mirra in a Melbourne cup. So they're trying to teach him to settle. But Kieran goes, well, I've had enough of this. This is a chance for him to lead. Let him be a happy horse and let him run. I don't know. Like, why don't you see this more often when horses are, when they're trying.
Speaker 11Because most horses will fall in a hole. And that's why I said to you before, I mean, most horses go out and go lickety split. I mean, prior to Jenny, no doubt has, uh, has opened this up and more people, more people are doing it. But as I said before, I don't mind if you go and do it, but don't wreck the race and then get beat a furlong. And then the stewards say nothing because at the end of the day, it's the stewards job to police this. And the stewards can be so weak sometimes because as long as a horse is going forward, no one cares. If you'll hold up, hold up, hold up, hold up, hold up, rip down the outside and run third.
Speaker 2Oh, all held apart. Do you think Kieran should have got in trouble for the, not, not, um, telling, the stewards with the change of tactics?
Speaker 11But was it a change of tactics though? Well, I don't think it was. You've got a hard going horse that jumps and goes out and goes to the front and keeps going faster, faster, faster, faster, faster. That's what he said. But that's not, but. But they've been riding it to try and settle it. Yeah, but the horse jumped out and did Ethan Brown kick it in the guts and give it a slap down the shoulder and make it go? So that's a change of tactics when you go on, no, no boys, we're actually going out to lead. See, I'm not big on change of tactics because one thing that quite often happens when, when it's, um, in the next, uh, change of tactics, Landman is going to go forward or be written back and everyone writes And then when it doesn't happen, everyone carries on like a poor shop.
Speaker 2But it shouldn't be change of tactics anyway. It's just a waste of time. It takes the competitive advantage out of it. Of course it does.
Speaker 11And why they brought this in 20 years ago was when blokes were cheating and they were going in the bush and they were riding it back and giving it a run and riding it back, giving it a run, riding it back, giving it a run. Then they might bring it to a midweek, a standard jump, go forward and lead. Well, the thing is now, you can't do that anymore. But you can't do that anymore.
Speaker 10It's so well televised and organized and the assessment. If blokes are going back and riding horses and giving them runs, you can see it as clear as day. Kieran Marr should not be in trouble.
Speaker 11No, he wasn't in trouble. No, but you asked a question. Yeah. No, he's done nothing wrong. The team have done nothing wrong and that horse has jumped and gone forward, but it all still gets back to the same old, same old. Where was the speed map, everybody? They're going to jump. What was the horse that was going to lead? What was it called? Kingswood. Kingswood was going to lead. She's alibi was going to sit outside. They trot walk counter, sprint up the last three and 34. She just wins in a hand. Can everyone's everyone's high five and moods given Catherine a hug and a kiss and everyone's happy. And you know why that didn't happen?
Speaker 10Because Kieran looked at the data and he said, that's exactly what's going to happen. So I'm not going to let that. But then hang on.
Speaker 11But then did he say, well, then I'm going to jump and go forward and I'm going to lead.
Speaker 10Well, no, I think, I think what he was thinking clearly is the horse is a hard going horse. Why am I going to do this? I may as well let him stride because otherwise Kingswood's going to sit up. They're going to go slow and the good horse will beat them all. Just on the end of that.
Speaker 11Every week. The rails are different. Position. We race on different track. You draw a different barrier. True. Back in the day when Ray Murray, he, one of the great, great chief stewards pulled my father in the stewards room and question him about a horse. And my dad said this, if you give me the same barrier, the same track, the same distance, the same rail movement, the same surface, I can write it the same every week. But every week there is a different variable that changes things.
Speaker 2Very true. And that's why I think you should reward, um, the stables and the jockeys to get their tactics right. And if it's an element of surprise, well, good. So what it's a horse race and the punters should be able to try and work that out. And I think sometimes, um, it is a contest at the other end of the day. And it's like any other sporting contest when you're trying to work out, if you're a football coach trying to beat the opposition, I think sometimes I think, you know, the best
Speaker 11thing, you know, the best thing about that race, we're talking about land legend and no one was going to be talking about it this morning. So good. Can Kingswood win a Caulfield cup on that? Well, you can't say no, because these races are thin at the top end. One or two horses don't get it right. Yeah. It's very, very open. It's 10 to one, the field.
Speaker 10I don't think he can win, but he'll run very well. And I will say that Gavin is absolutely on fire. His horse won the Seymour cup yesterday. Geez. He's training. Well, he really is. Hey, what are you really training?
Speaker 2What would you do with treasure? The moment spell, spell retire. Yeah. I'm 12 minutes past 10. We're going to talk about the Caulfield guineas next year on Gideon.
Speaker 1Text us on 0400. 9, 7, 3, 6, 7, 3, 6, live across Australia.
Speaker 2Welcome back to giddy up. Um, the text messages are flying through on the Garrett's horse and how tech slide here for the means test. Gareth Hall, Wayne Hawks, Johnny O'Neill with you. You can watch us these days as well. After we finish up the show, we're on YouTube. Are we really? Monday means test. Yeah. So just, you need to subscribe to SCN track on YouTube and away you go. Don't put any comments up about me for God's sake. For God's sake, I've got enough. Calm down, Johnny. And you can subscribe to giddy up with Gareth Hall with your local podcast subscriber to listen back to the podcast as well. Um, Goldie says no slouch led legend. First start in Australia, St. Ledger run a course record at 2,600 meters at Randwick. Uh, it was an Australian record too. She's alibi equaled the old Caulfield 2000 meter record running second in two minutes 0.33 according to racing.com. That's from Goldie. What horse did hold the record? Was it Might and Power and City? Um, no, I have to check that out.
Speaker 11It wasn't at Caulfield. Was it Might and Power himself? He held the record.
Speaker 2Wayne is correct. Data cannot cover every horse he had. Uh, Wayne is correct. Data cannot cover every horse he has in the stable. There is no way that Kieran can be using the data for every horse, but there is no way it would be helping every horse. Every horse is different and sometimes need a totally different training program. Not data program.
Speaker 10How do you think he sets the training? Look, in my opinion, any information you can get to enable you to put horses in races, to give them the best opportunity. I'm not saying data is the answer to everything. There's no, I mean, you've got to have that great eye. You've got to be great horse people. But having said that you need people doing form, you need people doing complete data sets to understand how to get the horses to perform the best they can.
Speaker 2Johnny is spot on with his comments about slow horses as a small owner. Myself, he has summarized it properly. Brian from Adelaide says, sacking a horse is a tough decision. As Wayne says, no one ever buys a horse that isn't full of potential. Or is a nice type. That's the beauty of the game. We have just purchased a three-year-old on race needs further laugh out loud. Nice type. No, no one's ever
Speaker 11gone to the yearling sales and bought a slow one ever though. No. It's a lovely, this is the loveliest horse I've bought in the last six minutes.
Speaker 2Last one on this, before we move on to the guineas. Good morning guys. Don't worry, Johnny. I think Berman is going super. How good was his win in Brisbane in the winter and Saturday will top him off beautifully for the Cox Plate. He's nearly a moral and I have a ticket with $18 for him to win the Cox Plate. Is that from Bray Cicholski who's going to share it? Thanks Bray. The Caulfield Guineas was built up as a race into the Sydney Star Colt and Warwoven taking on the Victorian Star Gelding in blind race.
Speaker 5Behind those horses, Central Europe, then something's burning. 250 out, had a length and a half to spare. Blind race at the 150. He's on by from blind race. Warwoven surges under in the guineas. Warwoven, two legs.
Speaker 2So Warwoven wins and wins well, Johnny O'Neill. It was a great Caulfield Guineas. I think there was a few surprises with some tactics early doors and as Wayne pointed out just before, you wanted to be on Warwoven a long way from home.
Speaker 10I think the first four horses are really nice horses in that race. Clearly the first two that quenolled the race are at this stage in better shape than the other two. Jonathan Munns that flashed home, flew home. I mean, obviously the pace was crazy. Blake went to the front. All the lunatics tried to take him on. Similar to what happened to start before, the pressure was out of control up front and for that horse to have continued to kick and hang on and just get picked up by Warwoven sort of a hundred out, I thought it was a huge run. So I think as we said at the start, the Cox Plate this year is a really interesting race. We don't have a VIA Sustena in it. We don't have the Japanese. We don't have the Chinese mare that was a star that came out. So we don't have those and we don't have an Animo in it. So this year there's six or seven horses that can win the Cox Plate. It's going to be an unbelievable spectacle. And I know that we always say the three-year-olds run well, but I think this year the three-year-olds are both positioned very well to be able to win the race.
Speaker 2Hangman was the horse that had the track record there at Caulfield over 2000 for the great late Mike Maroney. So what do you think of the Guineas form this year?
Speaker 11I mean, look, you can, you can only beat what's there to be beaten. He won the best race in Sydney war woven for the three-year-olds in the spring, and he's come down and won the, uh, the Caulfield Guinea. So the form is amazing to go on and run in a Cox Plate. You'd have to peak three times in three group ones. That's not going to be easy. Different, different ball game running against, uh, in theory against the boys that your own, uh, of your own age and sex. That's the bottom line. When you're taking on those older tried horses and everyone just hates Sir Delius, but he, he's, he won't be the blowout horse if he wins. Cause everyone would go, ah, yeah, we all knew, but like what no one's talking about him and he is a proven serious, serious horse. It's going to be third up and cherry ripe for the race. So war woven, it's going to be a big call. What they do. Should they run in the race?
Speaker 2Absolutely not. Well, they're going to the Cox Plate.
Speaker 11Absolutely not. Why? Because you're worth $20 million, my friend, you need to protect the horse. You need to protect the stallion. You don't have to run in a Cox Plate. Jake Muhammad didn't do it with Adamo. I know that. I get that. You asked me why, and I'm telling you why. So they're entitled to do whatever they want and good luck to them for, for doing it. But you don't, you don't want to run down the track with war woven and take the gloss off it. You know what I mean? Yes. Go to the flip side. If he wins, it makes no difference to me, but if he goes and wins, well, that takes him to the next level. But I'll tell you what, you've got a huge Everest to jump before you can, uh, before you can get into that race.
Speaker 10Maybe the girls will quinola it. I mean, Jamie's going to ride blind race. So, and, and Rachel will ride that. Well, I'm just, I mean, it'd be a store. I tell you what, it'd be a story. I just want to get to the,
Speaker 2this is what Kieran Ma had to say when I asked him whether the three-year-olds could win the Cox Plate this morning here on Giddy Up. Can, can any of those three-year-olds like a blind racer or a war woven win a Cox Plate?
Speaker 8Uh, no. No.
Speaker 2Why? Yep. Yep. Um, is that because you got light infantryman and maybe of course, uh, playing legend?
Speaker 8I suppose they could, you know, the, the three-year-olds have a, have a great record and, but, um, you know, when seasoned horses, it's tough when, when races are run like that.
Speaker 11Yeah. So three-year-olds run good and they're always in amongst, to be fair, there's plenty of them have been great horses that have been placed and everything in Cox Place, different race this year because it's a Flemington and it's a massive, massive difference between Moonee Valley to Flemington. But I think, I think there's one other thing that we're not talking enough about the The girl on top, Rachel. Rachel. Rachel King, she, truth, she was very one-dimensional three years ago. She used to jump, go forward, run, run, run, quicken up and everything like that. She has changed the way that she rides. She's not as aggressive early. She's more tactical. I think those stints of going overseas have just done her wonders. And she's definitely the best female jockey in the world. There's no doubt about that. She's riding way better than Jamie Mellon. She's the best female jockey in the world. I'd challenge anyone to tell me that she's not because she just keeps racking up these winners and truth, this sounds bad, but she's out here. It's no frills. She just gets in, does her job. She doesn't get all the hoo-ha. You're getting J-Mac on. You're not getting Rachel King on.
Speaker 2No, she was on yesterday on Crack White. I'm talking about with you, my friend.
Speaker 11How many times have you interviewed her?
Speaker 2Probably never. Do you know what? Hardly ever. I got you. Do you know what?
Speaker 10I've actually never met her. One thing I will say is- Quite lovely girl. But what about Bjorn? Like sticking so solid the whole way through. Like he's always been a huge rap for her and it's very easy, isn't it, to be replaced by the top three or four or five perceived jockeys in the country when you've got good horses. He's always been very loyal with his jockeys. So, you know, he deserves all the congratulations as she does.
Speaker 11Great ride. So, I was in that same position six or seven years ago. It was COVID. William Pike walks up. I've got a horse called Ole Kirk that had just won the Golden Rose and came out and said, right, you just sit off him. Just wait. Don't be in a rush. Just peel the outside and just go whoosh. He went, yep, done. And then there was silence for the next minute and a half waiting for the steward to go, riders up, and then leg your jockey on. So, to be cool like that, and obviously Rachel was, you're riding a horse that's worth 10 million plus. And if you don't think that is in the back of your mind, well, it is. There's not many Damien Olivers out there that go, now I'm riding the best horse. Life's good, folks. It's much easier. You put your own pressure on. And she went out there and gave it the best ride. But you know what? You can stuff things up by still having the best horse. You still have to give it the best ride. You can get an itchy ass and want to take off. You need to sit. And that race was not, talk about speed maps again, no one had that race doing what that race was going to do. Rachel just sat back, summed it up, didn't overcomplicate it. And I did hear someone say, I don't know where in the social media, she's not into the speed maps. She just goes out, rides a horse. She rode her horse to perfection. And it was a pleasure to be at Caulfield and watch. Do what she did on Saturday.
Speaker 2I think she's like, I reckon she's probably in the top echelon of riders, definitely in Sydney at the moment. She's improved out of sight. Oh, she's riding the house down. Definitely. She's creating history of where she goes. She was the first female jockey to win a Caulfield Guinea. She's the first female jockey to win a group one in Japan. She is a star.
Speaker 11And she doesn't ride for as many stables as the JMAX and those guys and girls do.
Speaker 10And obviously the great thing from a weight aspect, she's really going to get opportunities in those handicaps, those big group. We need her. We need that. We need that. We have Stradbrokes and
Speaker 11Goodwoods and these big races that need lightweight jockeys. She's going so good.
Speaker 2So, Bjorn Baker, I had a chat to him today. The plan is to go to the Cox Plate. Well, they're going to see how he pulls up and they're going to look at him throughout the next week or so. But at the moment, he's more likely to go to the Cox Plate than not.
Speaker 11I'm not bagging the horse, but you look at it. He's had a hard run in the Golden Rose. He's had a hard run in the Caulfield Guineas. It's a very, very easy thing to say, let's run the Cox Plate. But you've run three-year-olds in the Cox Plate. He's a cracker, mate. And one or two. And one or two. So, you know, he can't do any more than he's done. So, you roll the dice and go, let's roll the dice. If it doesn't work, so be it. But it's going to be hard. Three runs in a row to peak. And you know what? Yeah. His peak might have been on Saturday. He has to over-peak at his next start to beat those horses.
Speaker 2Just on the other three-year-old in Blind Rays, like, he was taken on the early part. And I think when you're taken on the early part of a 1,600-meter race and your lungs are opened, I thought he was broken. As they come, like, Sarah Fox got beat 20 lengths nearly. And Trombolt didn't handle Caulfield, but he was beating 10 lengths. And Blind Rays was still there in the fight. Could they go any harder?
Speaker 10I mean, they went hard the start before, too, if we remember when. That was mid-race, wasn't it? Yeah, but they still took him on. They still took him on. And it was a huge win, the start leading into the Guineas. Yeah. I have to say, there wouldn't have been too many horses that could have absorbed that pressure and then kicked off. That, and was still in front with 100 yards to go. You made a really good point that Rachel rode a terrific race on Warwoven. Well, it was just sitting back fifth or sixth completely out of that battle, getting a lovely suck up on the corner. It was always going to win if it could finish off and get the mile, which it did. And it certainly indicates it'd get a bit further.
Speaker 2So who's a better chance in the Cox Plate? Clint Hutchison says you'd have Blind Rays every day of the week over Warwoven at the prizes. One's $11 with bet $3.65.
Speaker 10The other's $6. Yeah, look, I think they've both got great hopes. I think they're both great horses. So, you know, one over the other. If Blind Rays had have had the run that Warwoven had won, would it have beaten it? Probably. So I don't
Speaker 11think there's much between them. If you're talking to three-year-olds and you like the three-year-olds, you have to back Warwoven for one simple reason. He is a winner. Remember this horse was scratched golden, was it Magic Millions morning? He was favourite for the Magic Millions. This has been a really, really good horse. And you know what? If Waller or Ma had it, it would be next level stuff. Let's be honest with it. It's, and J-Mac was riding it. It'd be unbelievable.
Speaker 2Yeah. What about, um, what would you do with a horse like, uh, well, call me coach goes to the paddock, Trombolt. He didn't handle Caulfield. We know he's very good. He won the JJ Atkins. Would you give him another, another crack at these three-year-olds in a Cox Plain?
Speaker 10I know he wouldn't be able to beat, he wouldn't be able to beat those other horses, I don't think. Not yet. You know, tip him out. Chris will tip him out. He'll tip him out, give him a break and he'll come back unreal in the autumn. He's a lovely horse.
Speaker 11The thing, the thing that what you've got to look at now is, and I've said this a thousand times, if you're coming back in Melbourne in the autumn, it ain't, it ain't the autumn. It's summertime racing in Melbourne. It's the autumn in Sydney, but we always category it, categorize it as the autumn. Yeah. You need to be in the paddock now, if you're going to be back in Melbourne to be heading towards Guineas and those sort of races. And you know what? The races like the Australian Guineas are going to be there for those sort of horses to give their chance. So do we go once, one more, do we have another crack? Do you wait three weeks and go to a carbine club and races like that? Well, you can. It's not Christmas. You can. No, no, it's not. It doesn't. You can, but let me tell you, you do eat up into the summer and the autumn next time
Speaker 2around. Yep. You know what, Wayne? I've got to go to a break. This is Giddy Up and the Monday Man's Test. Welcome back to Giddy Up, Gareth Hall. With you, it's 10.31. I've got a, we might go to the oh no's early doors here because it's, because the Turok is part of my oh no in a different way. So roll the, roll the tape, Paulie. Oh no, see you walking around like you're Johnny O'Neill. Lovely, isn't it? Now let's replay the Turok handicap on Caulfield Guinea's day. And it was Lady Shedindah who was able to burst through. And win the group one, defending Changing Colours and Welcome to the Show. The two fairytale stories of that race who just went down. Warning was back and forth. Have we got it ready to go? We have. This is the Turok handicap from last Saturday.
Speaker 5Salty Pearl is sticking like glue the outer. Then came Welcome to the Show. Evaporate back to the fence with Pondalawi. Then came Sun God and Changing Colours. Salty Pearl joined by Welcome to the Show on the outside. Then came Evaporate and behind them, Changing Colours at the hundred. Welcome to the Show. Lady Shedindah was getting out. Welcome to the Show. Lady Shedindah and Changing Colours. Lady Shedindah. Lady Shedindah was burst through to win from Changing Colours.
Speaker 2Wow. Welcome back to, um, Giddy Up. That was your man too, wasn't it? Yeah, so, my oh no.
Speaker 11So, your oh no is you just saw J-Mac then when you were watching Race.com.
Speaker 2Yeah, my oh no has got distracted by a few things there. But my oh no now is me. But the other oh no is like, in a good way, if you know what I mean. Changing Colours and Welcome to the Show. To me, they're the two great stories why I love this game. Like, Lucy Yeoman's first Group 1 runner, uh, looking for her first Group 1 with Luke Cartwright, looks the winner and just goes down. Now, that must be heartbreaking, I reckon. And Welcome to the Show. Tyler Donaldson-Aitken's done a wonderful job with him. Um, and here's some story. Breaks in horses, prepares horses for a ready-to-run sale like this week at Inglis. And this is his chance to win a Group 1. His horse goes like a Group 1 winner, but just fails. I, I. As soon as I went, like, was watching that race and they went over the line, I thought, bloody Waller and McDonald, they could have given someone else an opportunity. They could. They probably should have run her in
Speaker 11the tap, Craig, on, uh, in, in the, uh, what do you call it? The million and a half dollar race in Sydney on Saturday. Because she would have, uh, give them something. But I know what it's like to run second in those, uh, in those big races. And, um, it, it is, you know, when everyone walks up and goes, well done, well done. You run second. Yeah, yeah. You dead set walk away like you have, like your footy team has gotten beaten by one point in the grand final. That's the greatest way to explain it. It is good to a point, but, ah, it's just, it's the so near, but so far. So, you know, it's running second and getting a silver in the Olympics. When you think you're going to run 14th and you run second, that's a thrill. But when you've gone there thinking I've got a big chance and you run second, and you've run second to Waller, J-Mac and Lady Shenandoah, what you're saying, and take another way from them, who was the best horse in the race? The winner. And it was just an amazing, amazing ride. And you know what? How many times do I say it? Go and look at J-Mac and how cool and calm he was. Because if he wasn't going to get out, it was going to be a hard luck story. He just rode to go, I'm relaxed, I'm relaxed, I'm relaxed. And I mean, it must be hard. I've never been out there and done it, but you got, you might as well be relaxed and then just hope for luck. And that was a one out of a hundred chance of happening, but it happened and it's probably going to go down as, well, I'll tell you what, that, that so far would nearly have to be the ride of the year. Let's, let's find a better one under better circumstances in a massive group one.
Speaker 10So there's been a few. It's an extraordinary ride. I agree with you. And look, he gets that, he gets that eye of the tiger, right? Like Zara and Ethan Brown and those guys, you know, he just is. And you could see we had, um, we had sun got in the race that was sort of looming up and then James just said, get out of the way. And it got out of the way and just went whoosh straight through. One thing I want to say about Lucy, she's a hope that her stable gets full as a result of that. Yeah. She's a great horse person, Lucy. And she's obviously, um, in, in a relationship with Blake, who's a wonderful rider and doing a lot of track work for her. So I hope that happens for her. Um, Billy Pierce. He has bred that horse, as I said, the second horse and, and Bray and Ozzie and Billy are in it and with Chris. And so I'm really, really happy for them. Um, you know, being a half to Natoya that won a group one, it's a very valuable mare. And the third horse, interesting, um, guy that, um, we work closely with on our form identified that horse about 18 months ago. And he said, Johnny, you want to try to buy this horse? I think it's a really nice horse. Um, and then, you know, it's a, it's run third in the group one. So, but J Mac and, and Waller, if you go through and have a look at all the results, geez, they're hard to beat. Yeah. If it's Kirin. If it's Kirin or Waller or, or the Hawks or the Hazes or the Moody's or Gay, you know, those, those trainers are the ones that are really hard to beat in, in, in the group one
Speaker 2races. And the better, as I said before, that's why it's my, I know in a way it's like, they get so close, so close. It's so hard.
Speaker 11You can win a thousand group twos, but the grand final, it just, it's, they can be the same horses from two weeks ago and the same race run the same way. But two weeks later in that group one, it is just the next level. And that's what a group one is. And not. Blow my own trumpet here, Johnny, but you're right. If you're going to look at the 60, 70 group ones nationally, in theory, 90% of the time year on year on year, it's the same people, the same people. But then he's saying that Lucy Omen's hasn't got six group one chances over the spring carnival. She had a group one chance on Saturday and, uh, and, uh, and just, uh, just missed. Other O knows who wants to start. I've got a thousand. All right, here we go. Who used to train, um, changing colors? Come on. Chris Waller. Yeah. Well, no one's mentioned that ever. We mentioned it all the time. Do we? Yes.
Speaker 2Do we? Who trained land legend? Land legend, Kieran, uh, Chris Waller. Who used to train it? Right. Chris Waller, yeah.
Speaker 11He had a good day, a good day and a bad day. And that's not bagging, Chris, but I mean, you gotta be fair. What is it then? Well, no, no, stop. No, no, no, no. Blake's trained 27,000 group one winners. He's one of the best ever, ever to train. Excuse me. No, no, no one's going to say that Lucy Omen's is a better trainer than Chris Waller. No. But I mean, when this, when this happens, I mean, we need, not call it out, but we need to say it for what it's, uh, say it for what it is. I mean, we sit here and blow his bags up every single day of the week and you know what? He's got two horses there that have nearly, nearly won a group one and did win a group one. So it's happened to everyone before. It's happened to me once before. So, I mean, I know.
Speaker 10And as we know, I owned a quarter of that horse with the boys and I sold my share to Bray when it left Chris's. I didn't know it was going to Lucy's, but I, I thought it had reached its, as a four, four year old mare rising five, I thought it had reached its peak. I'm out. Well, now it's a six year old mare, you know, running second in group one.
Speaker 2The moral of the story, whenever Chris Waller, gets one online, we better buy it, Wayne.
Speaker 11No, you said that. I wouldn't be, I wouldn't be saying that. Cause Mo, Mo. No, I was only mucking around Chris. No, but do you know what the bottom line is? By the time they finished at Chris Waller's there at the end of their campaign, I mean, he's not sacking them quick. He's sacking them long. He's going the long game. Yeah. And Darren, we, we don't talk about him anymore, but Darren, we used to do exactly the same
Speaker 2thing. Yeah. Well, Chris Waller, he, he got, um, very elegant in Nature's Trip. Yes, yes, yes.
Speaker 11Yeah. No, no doubt. Mate, it's happened to everyone. Bella Nipatina was Kieran Mars. Half yours was Kieran Mars. I mean, it does happen and horses can change and they can improve just going to, uh, to different environments, but it's quite a different ball game today as well, because, you know, it was like a horse I had running yesterday at Seymour. That horse just turned four. I swear to God, it's just turned three. There's 12 months in the middle. It just has to disappear because this horse carries on like an immature three-year-old. That's what Jenny said about you. My mother. Yeah.
Speaker 10Absolutely. Give us some more I Know's, Hawks. You got plenty. Well, the track ratings.
Speaker 11Now, I'm not. I'm not bagging the stewards for keeping it as a good three, but we're breaking track records left, right, and center, so we don't go to a good two, right? We don't go to a good two. Now, the stewards are going to come back and defend hard now and go, oh, you know, the track was only a three, but when it's a seven or an eight or a nine, they look at times of races. So, when you're breaking track records and jockeys are coming back going, track was too firm, track was too firm. I was watching YouTube Sunday where you have the beaten brigade and so many jockeys were coming back saying, yeah, it was too firm for my horse, too firm for my horse. So, that doesn't guarantee to say that it's fast, but we don't use the fast rating anymore, okay? So, let's just get rid of it. My point about all this is get rid of the numbers. We have to stop with the numbers. So, what would you have? Fast, good, dead? No, there's no point having fast anymore because no one puts up a fast, Gareth. No one puts up a fast. So, you start with good. Yielding is what they call it in Europe, which is dead because this day and age, we can't call it dead. So, let's call it good, yielding, soft, heavy because from an eight to a ten, you've got If you just leave it as heavy, it's heavy, it's heavy, and you can decide whether it's a crap heavy or an actual not a bad heavy because an end of winter sand down heavy is far different to a Flemington heavy. So, can I ask you a question on that, Ryan?
Speaker 10Yep, please. If we were to do that, if there's a heavy eight currently and it gets to a heavy ten because they've had another 40 mils of rain. It's just heavy. But the scenario is from eight to a nine, I can scratch currently. Yep. But if it's an eight and they have 40 mils of rain that gets to a ten, I can't scratch. It's very easy. If you want to scratch, scratch.
Speaker 11But you can't. But you can't. But my point is, change the rules. Okay. I'm saying change the one to ten. Fair enough. So, understand this. Every time an industry body changes one rule, it affects five others. So, just by going back and getting rid of the numbers, the numbers are too hard. I mean, you know, don't tell me the curators mightn't have failed. I mean, it's like having a fuel tax levy. I mean, where does the fuel tax levy go back to zero? So, it's the same thing. So, if you 20 years ago had your line right there and you move it now three inches to the right, no one knows any different. I don't know whether it's a four going to a three. I don't know whether it's a three going to a four. Tracks don't walk how they race quite often. And we just overcomplicate so much of this. So, for the layman person, just keep it very, very simple.
Speaker 10You got another I know for us?
Speaker 11I've got a list of them. You've got a list of them here. I'm not getting one today. So, on Saturday, I go to Caulfield and the bloke walks up and goes, Hoaxie, how are you? I said, I'm great. He goes, I haven't seen you for ages. I looked at him. I said, do I know you? He goes, no, you don't know me, but I haven't seen you for ages. G'day to you. Is that what he sent me, this idiot? Like you and I were getting that? I'm sitting at the table. That's the most pointless I know ever. Well, not really. I thought that was quite funny. But only because it's not about you, it's not funny.
Speaker 2But some bloke went up to you that didn't know you. And said, hey, Hoaxie, I haven't seen you. Shut up. Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 11I've got- Gerard does that with me. Federalist, he still does. Federalist and brave one running in the million and a half dollar race on Saturday. I'm sitting at the table and the lady at the table, she owns a great racehorse, she told me. I won't say which one. She said to me, oh, you got a runner in this race? I said, no, no, I've got two. Darren Flindell. Racing. And with- Brrrr. And the woman turns to me while I'm watching the race and says, so how's your dad? I said, my dad's good. And I'm happy to talk to you in about 45 seconds time, but I just need to watch this race. Really? Simon Zahra. Simon Zahra. You're not, no, we're not calling names there? Well, I don't remember.
Speaker 2I don't know. Why do you keep putting Federalist in those races? Let him have it. Well, he nearly should have won. He nearly, but you said- Well, hang on a second. You said he doesn't like the fence and you start from gate one. He drew barrier one. Yeah, you said he doesn't like being inside horses.
Speaker 11He did. He didn't the other day at Newcastle. Yeah. That's what I said. The truth of the matter was we were trying to win that race and he all but nearly won. So the people that haven't watched it, go and watch it. No, he was unlucky. Right? He's a black booker. Right. So you know what the deal was going to be? Run him in that race and then run him in the, run him in She's an Alibi's $10 million race. That was what we wanted. That was our plan.
Speaker 10Little Gary, what's Ritalin?
Speaker 11Didn't quite work.
Speaker 10Can you tell me what Ritalin is? It's an ADHD drug. Okay. They're saying Wayne needs some of that. Yes, yes, yes.
Speaker 11So Simon Zara, he gets a text message from a friend of his the other day. Yeah. And it's, this is how, this is how it went. And I saw the text message. Hey, Simon, Cup Week, any chance of getting some, some tickets for Calvin Harris? Simon Zara goes back and says, how many members tickets does he want? Simon. Calvin Harris is one of the greatest singers slash DJs in the world. And here's Simon Zara going, yeah, I can get him some members tickets. How many does he want? Like, seriously? How many members tickets can you get us? Because I wouldn't mind a couple. Well, if you, if you wrap the VRC, you'll get a few more, Gary. All right then, Wayne, keep going. That'll probably, no, actually I've got one, one more. And we need the, the audio of this. This happened half an hour before our show started. This is what Gareth Hall said, folks.
Speaker 2You know what? I've got to go and get my facial again. I missed that last week, but you should try it. I'll give you the, yeah. Yeah, do that. I've got Calvin McEvoy onto it since he's been joining us here on Giddy Up. What are you doing, you bloke? He's supporting local
Speaker 10businesses in Parkdale. Yeah, you should get one, Wayne. He's supporting local businesses in Parkdale Facial. Gareth, seriously. Is that where you go?
Speaker 11Do you go to Parkdale Facial? No, no, it's one in South Melbourne. Facials. Yeah. Where, where is it? Give it a plug.
Speaker 2Uh. Somewhere in Coventry Street. I haven't been there for a little while. We can tell. We can tell. Why are you getting facials? We're going to take this break on the other side. Johnny hasn't even done his own nose. No, we're going to come back with Johnny's own nose straight after this here on Giddy Up. This is the Monday Means Test.
Speaker 10Facials. Johnny O'Neill's own nose now. I just want to get an update on Streisand. Have you got anything there? Like it was airborne last time and it was disappointing first up. Yeah. And I was going to have something on the weekend. I didn't, but I thought it was very disappointing.
Speaker 11Yeah, she hasn't come back just yet. Drew a bad barrier and was always going to go back. Two were going to go back.
Speaker 10Right. And then the other, I've got a couple of others. Paradoxium. Very disappointing. Led up. Had every opportunity. Yeah, I guess so. Started pretty short. Like, you know, it won very well. Flemington went back, started even money. I thought it was disappointing. The winner was good. And then the other one. And Wayne is known for doing this. But the rail at Seymour yesterday, Cap Day, was an absolute disgrace. Was it? Was an absolute disgrace. How does that happen? Looked like it was an amazing day. Weather was fantastic. Crowd looked incredible. But if you drew in, you couldn't win. And I'm in a position where I haven't looked at all the form, but I just watched a couple of the races. And we're in a position where I haven't looked at all the form. We had a horse in the cup that wasn't good enough. It was heavily backed. Immediate C, yeah. Heavily backed by you, John. No, no, I didn't have a bet. But Brownie said, he just said, look, we drew one. We just had nowhere to go. We couldn't get off the fence. There was a question asked about that. And just forget it went around, you know. So I think anything hard of the rail couldn't win. Having said that, there may have been one or two horses that could get off the rail and get a result.
Speaker 2I think you've said it all there with Seymour.
Speaker 10Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Look, as I said, I saw the guy, the track manager interview before the. Before the races on racing.com gave it a bit of a wrap. And as I said, look, the day looked fantastic and the event was good. I'm sure the crowd numbers were up. The party looked like it was crazy. So they obviously did a good job. But I mean, Celine Gaudre rode one for us. Educated. I think we drew eight or 10. She's had four, four and five deep the whole way on it. Still one. It was too good.
Speaker 2Yeah. We'll take a break. We'll come back with our yes, yes, yes is next.
Speaker 1Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.
Speaker 2I've got a couple. Do you want me to start? You start. I love Jigsaw. What a story is Cindy Alderson take a bow. An eight-year-old first stop. He won seven on the trot last prep. He went from New Zealand when he first group won back home in Melbourne. And then won the quokka. He probably goes to, I don't know what she does with him. Does she go to Perth to try and win a winner bottom? Or she win that slot race again there at Cranbourne? So, yeah, he's great for the, for the game. And like he was racing as a two-year-old. So it's been some job. And my other yes, yes, yes is to my little mate from WA. The one and the only D Lane. Now he put out a release there on Friday night, I reckon. It might've been Friday night. And it reads, and it reads, was a media release by Damien Lane Racing. I'm pleased to announce that I've passed the first stage of the examination process to become a JRA licensed jock in Japan. I recently sat the first exam and was today officially notified in writing that I've passed. There you go.
Speaker 10What'd you say? I don't know. I just, keep going.
Speaker 2Keep going. Is it important to say that this, you're trying to talk. You're trying to talk to the boys out the back. Well, that's what he did.
Speaker 10So tell me.
Speaker 2Is it important to say that this does not guarantee me a JRA jockey license? It's the only stage one. I'm now required to complete the second exam in January, after which a decision will be made on my application. I will dedicate myself to preparing for it. So that is good news for Lane. He's still got a little bit to go. I think Joe Meru passed the first exam. He didn't pass the second exam. But yeah, that is terrific news.
Speaker 10I've got to tell you one thing. Him getting into Japan. Um, if he can do it longer term, it'll just set his whole life up. Not, not that. I mean, he's a beautiful writer. He's got great hands. I think he said already, Johnny. Yeah. Well, he probably is, but like, he's a terrific guy. Good Tigers, man. Good Richmond, man. And a great writer. But that'll really. Yeah. That'll really, that'll really set.
Speaker 11I really think so. I love this song. Keep it going. Turning Japanese. I think I'm turning Japanese. I really think so. Keep it going. One more time. Turning Japanese. I really think so. I really think so. Da, da, da, da, da, da, da. Turning Japanese. I really think so. Great song. Great song. What about your? No sex, no drugs, no wine, no women, no sex.
Speaker 10Oh, please. Shut up, man. You know what that is? That's when you're doing your best work in those nightclubs in Adelaide. Great song. Great song. So I want to just go back to Cindy Alderson. In a really competitive market. Obviously, her father was one of the greats of all time. In a really competitive market where the top 10 or 12 or 13, 13 trainers pretty much dominate racing. Pretty much. Um, she, she's an incredible horse person and deserves this. And then unleashed a horse at Seymour yesterday. Like watch this space for this horse. Valoroso. It's by Niconi. You backed it, didn't you? I didn't back it, but I'm telling you, watch this space. It is a very, very good horse. I hope she gets to keep it because I'm tipping Hong Kong and everybody else will be all over it trying to buy it. Have you tried it before? It was a win. Jeez, it was a win. It's a very, very good horse.
Speaker 11I saw it. I was there yesterday for one race and I only watched my race. And it, uh, and it, and it won really, really well. And there, I walked past Cindy and I said, mate, you couldn't have given racing.com a smile and whatever. Like they had the camera right on her when she won and she was just very nonchalant and, you know, as a matter of fact, and, uh, she's done such an amazing job with this horse. So congratulations. You need the horse to do the job. You need the jockey to do the job. But the trainer has done an amazing job because this horse has done more miles than the Leyland brothers. And, uh, and it is just, I mean, it was clearly the best horse in the race. He's noted about that, but on that race, I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but get those blinkers off Ray Magnerio and you'll be winning next start. He overraced a buggery and, uh. It's Robbie Griffiths, bud. Yeah, I know who it is. I know who it is, but he just overraced a buggery in behind him. And then I heard you earlier this morning, people were bagging Pikey's ride for not going in and out and vice versa. And mate, he was, he was having a stranglehold in behind him and he's just overracing too hard. That horse. You never bagged Pikey. No, Pikey did nothing wrong.
Speaker 10I saw another jet.
Speaker 11Absolute jet. Oh, this will be the first at Caulfield or second, was it?
Speaker 10Sequined. Just whatever it goes to over the carnival, just, just bet up. Make sure you save some money up for that. Wherever it goes, it won't get beat. It never handled Caulfield at all. Yeah. Throwing its head round three or four deep. The boys in the box, we had a chat prior and, you know, it's got that little very elegant head carriage, bit of an issue. So. Great ride, but to be sitting, as you know, Hawksy, three deep chasing, even four deep chasing at Caulfield first time and just to trot up and go bang and win by three, it's, it's a very good horse.
Speaker 11Very good. Just quickly, didn't we have some horses in Melbourne and Sydney on the weekend that were caught wide and had horror runs, but still ran through the line and won well. We had some good horses do it. And most times you get beat.
Speaker 10Yeah. Zara on point Barrow. What about him when he gets his, oh my God, when he puts his head down and, and really has a crack, there's only four or five in the country that can do it like he's a big race winner. Oh my God. And a great and a fantastic, uh, just, just a huge win. Good, good win for the Freedies. And the other horse I wanted to raise that I thought was enormous. And I saw the owners interviewed after it won the last Craig Williams has ride on spirit. Oh my God.
Speaker 11Please. He is riding well.
Speaker 10For any, for any young, you know, we're talking about J Mac for any young kids. And I know Willow would always give his time up, but go back and watch that. Um, huge, huge jockey change to Willow and the owners was so funny. They interviewed him straight after the race. And a couple of them were from Alexander and some for it. And they'd all, we'd booked a local motel and we're down. It was so good. So great for racing.
Speaker 11I Johnny, I actually spoke to Craig Williams the other day. And I said, you got an issue with Gareth or Gareth's going to die about right now. Look at the Gareth thing. Oh, geez. Where's he going? He's never been on the show. He's never, ever been on Gareth's 20 hours a week. Program. And so I do too. And I said, have you got an issue with Gareth? He said, no, I don't. So Gareth, I actually, this is true. I actually went and asked him and he said, he doesn't have it. He said, he doesn't have an issue with you. And we just can't get him on. A lot of people have issues with you, Gareth. Yeah, but Craig doesn't.
Speaker 10A lot do, but he doesn't.
Speaker 11Craig doesn't have an issue with you. Okay. So it's just, you've just been a bit unlucky to get him at the wrong time. So we'll get him on.
Speaker 10We'll get him on. I think he's riding. Let him win a big race. He's riding our grey horse in the Caulfield Cup, St. George. Maybe I could give him a call and ask him. 1058. Come on.
Speaker 2We're going to get a weather report for Saturday with Josh Holtz. I'm going to finish my yes, yes, yeses, but we'll come back afterwards and do that. Yeah, we'll come back with your yes, yes, yeses straight after this. This is the means test. They're off their heads today. It's been fun. Turning Japanese, I really think so. We'll take a break. We'll come back and wrap up the means test straight after this.
Speaker 1Text us on 0499 736 737. Live across Australia, this is Giddy Up! gareth hall welcome back to giddy

Speaker 11dollars worth of damage you know what though he's gonna love living there at 3195 parkdale he's gonna love being down there and you should take him to solarium yes i've got oh noes and yes yes yeses but i'm gonna do yes yes yeses i'm excited you look at the hill stakes on saturday it was worth two million dollars yes 20 minutes before or after you've got the might and power worth a million you've got two serious races why are we not breeding more staying horses yeah because i know that's a no no no there but you get my point you got two million dollar and a one million dollar race of the same horses right we our prize money is so big and we are not breeding enough stays in the southern hemisphere and all we're doing is lining the pockets of all these european people because people don't want to wait and everyone's one by a two-year-old he's not european no no but i'm saying all the europeans bolster up our staying ranks in australia there's not many yours, the attrition's, we know them off the top of our heads.
Speaker 2What about this then on the, when you're talking about the calendar, it's like you've got the Alan Brown worth one and a half million. Yep. You've got the Hill stakes worth 2 million and then the Victorian races.
Speaker 1115 years ago, Gareth, they're all in Melbourne running in the might and power and all those races. So it's great for participants. And owners. It's great. Well, that's participants. It's great for the participants. I don't know whether it's as good or bad for the, from the punting point of view, as far as, do you want to bet when it's an easier bet or do you want to bet when it's a harder, harder race? We are now divided. I've said it 300 times. What about from a sporting fan?
Speaker 2You want to, you want to watch the best take on the best. Yeah, to a point, but it's not going to happen anymore.
Speaker 11So it's a dead argument really. Yeah. The bottom line is where it's good is sitting there at Caulfield on Saturday. Every 20 minutes, it was something gangbusters going on. So you weren't waiting 40 minutes. You're only waiting 20 minutes to the next race. It was one after the other, after the other. Let alone the other support cards coming in from all around Australia. What else have you got for us? The barbecue sizzle at Kighton. It wasn't Kighton Cup day. It was just a normal day at Kighton. Good on them for putting the, I'm being serious. Putting, putting on the sizzle and everything like that. I mean, these cunts, no, no. What's the sizzle? What, you've never been to Bunnings? Well, let me tell you something. Can I just tell you, there's a bit of mail around this on the,
Speaker 10on the text message here talking about the sizzle. Well, I'm talking about, I'm talking about the sausages. Well, there was a bloke starving. He was Lee Marvin, the bloke. And you, you've eaten all the sausages and all the hamburgers. That is not true. And he said by the time he got the cue, the 18 snaggers and the four burgers were gone and the bloke said we've run out of food.
Speaker 11No barbecue sauce left you? Nothing. It was, that is not true. So we're just Kighton on a, Kighton on a Thursday. You can just see Hawksy sucking on the top of that barbecue sauce. Bunnings Radio, get it here on SEN track. All your sizzle, all your sausage. You know what? It's the bloody best hamburger I've had. Mate, it was, it was. That means you have. I had one. One what? I had one. My daughter Matilda had one. We had to go back three times. Three times. You had to go back three times to add one. That means you've had three lots. Went back three times because they continually ran out. It was just a quiet day at Kighton. So you know what? Good on these country race clubs for doing what they're doing. We blow the bags of the big city tracks and the big city clubs and everything like that. Yes, yes. We blow the bags. We blow. Mate, seriously.
Speaker 10Oh, come on, Wayne. I've got to tell you. I don't know where you get some of these things from. I don't think what you Osborne people think, right? We blow the bags.
Speaker 11Hiya! Bunnings Warehouse. Okay. So we mentioned Lucy Yeomans and she needs another mention in the yes, yes, yes. Because what she's done with that horse is quite amazing. And you know what? What you said's right. It was her day in the sun and she nearly nailed it. So that was well. Annabelle and Rob Archibald. Well, they've had a shocking start to the season. No, no. They have had. Do you know how many winners they've trained before last Wednesday in town? Zero. Zero. They had a winner last Wednesday at the Kenzo. I know. And then they won the million and a half dollar race on Saturday. You can only run with what you have. So they haven't had a good start to the season. And it happens. It's as simple as that. I mean, Peter Moody's not knocking the lights out, but I mean, it is what it is. You only have the horses you have to run. So Annabelle and Rob's first winner in town was last Wednesday. Then they backed it up on Saturday, winning the million and a half dollar race. So you have your runs. So well done to them. Here's a question I want to ask you on that.
Speaker 10How far would she's an alibi have won that Alan Brown race on Saturday by?
Speaker 11Well, can I ask this question? How far would Lady Shenandoah have won that race by on Saturday? I mean, both those horses could have actually run in it. But we know why Peter didn't want it and Catherine didn't want to go to Sydney because it was an extra trip up and back to New South Wales. But racing was a massive, massive winner on the weekend. And I mean, we could talk for an hour about it. Yes, yes, yeses. But Caulfield, well done.
Speaker 218,000, sun shining, the roars of the crowd. Like when Jigsaw took off. I couldn't believe it was only 18,000. It felt like 38,000. I don't think that can fit too many more.
Speaker 10What about the move of the mounting yard? I know it's been like that for a while. They invested. They invested all the money in the other area back to where it was. 8.50. Got to take our hats off to them for doing that as well. 8.50 car drafts.
Speaker 11So, yeah. How many do you have? None. We also, while we're in the zone of this, we so need to swap the Caulfield Cup and the Cox Plate meeting around. That won't ever happen, Wayne. Well, it can happen. Why? Well, why can't it happen? It won't happen. Wouldn't you rather run the 2,000 and then go on to a Caulfield Cup? And then you've got a Caulfield Cup and there's 10 days to the Melbourne Cup.
Speaker 2What are we talking about this morning? What? The three-year-olds.
Speaker 10Tell you what I want to talk about. $8.50 for a Carlton draft. I can't believe a company that can make a brand that tastes so good for so cheap.
Speaker 2Can you believe that? The Ono's brought to you by the Osborne South Yarra. Enjoying happy hour food specials and footy. I still haven't been to the Osborne. Live and loud at the Osborne South Yarra. They wouldn't let you in with your behaviour today. No. Hey, I've got one more yes, yes, yes before we get Trent Mason Howder on. This is Nifty Parnon after winning the last race at Ascot on Saturday.
Speaker 12I actually came here pretty confident that he would give a big, big sight and Gareth Hall actually asked me during the week what I would do with $100 and I got the first one wrong but I got the last one right. I think the two-year-old would be worthy of an each-way prospect and I do think God's Gate in the last will run very, very well. God's Gate's in front. The post is coming. God's Gate by two to rock and romp fine star. God's Gate's going to cling on. God's Gate all the
Speaker 2way. Is that the same
Speaker 12tone?
Speaker 2No, no, no. So there's Nifty Parnon. God's Gate, $16. I was at my local pub there past Parkdale. What's that suburb? The Morty. Morty Allick. Morty Allick, 3195. And these three legend giddy-up listeners, they showed me their bet slip they had on God's Gate. They were the only three listeners you've got. Yes, 100%, so well done.
Speaker 11You were at Parkdale. Everyone's at Rose Hill and Caulfield and you were at Parkdale. So the Morty Allick
Speaker 10hotel on the water or the one at the top on the hill? The white one. The one at the top. The sports bar, the sports bar.
Speaker 11It's good there. That's the Morty Allick. That's the end of McDonald Street. That's where I used to live.
Speaker 2All right, then Trent Mason, how to join. Just Trent, hello to you from Racing.com. I'll tell you what, he's my yes, yes, yes as well. This man is dominating, breaking all of the news. Hello, Trent. Good morning, boys. As Johnny O'Neill's horse said, he paid $4.5 million to get into the Caulfield Cup. Has it gained a start?
Speaker 13There's a few connections sweating on a run this morning, G, and people are scrambling to find out who's going and who's not. One horse I can tell you that is likely to go is Knight's Choice. The 2024 Melbourne Cup winner spoke to John Simons this morning. He's come. He's come. It's been a true Saturday's run in good order, and they're very much considering going to the Caulfield Cup on the quick backup, and he'll be reunited with Robbie Dolan, who rode him to the Melbourne Cup.
Speaker 10Oh, how good. I definitely need a Panadol in, if that's the case.
Speaker 2I didn't think he was going. No. So you're out. So he's not going. It's unlikely, isn't it, point of law?
Speaker 13Yeah, I would think so, very unlikely. I spent a fair bit of time with Kieran and Jack Turnbull on that this morning, and they've been sweating on a run with point of law, and also Juju Kivo, so even he looks unlikely to get in.
Speaker 2Why does he miss a start after winning a Metrop? I don't know.
Speaker 13Yeah, it's crazy, isn't it? So there's still a couple others. Wooten Verney, Campaldino, one smoother operator. One smoother, sorry, Wooten Verney there. They want rain, which they're unlikely to get, so he might drop out. But yeah, Knight's Choice will run. Treasure of the Moment, what do they do with her? No decision as of last night with her. They won't run her, surely. You wouldn't think so.
Speaker 2No. So, yeah, and then Landledge and Kieran telling us they're going to, they might go to, or Cox Plate or a Champion Stakes, and then go to Hong Kong, so he doesn't go to a Caulfield Cup.
Speaker 13Yeah, that's right. They'll have to pay the late nom, 200 grand for the Cox Plate, but yeah, I just think maybe a, a smaller field, and they can try and get a softish lead like they did on Saturday, maybe, along with Light Infantryman and a completely different race shape, obviously, in a bigger field in the Caulfield Cup. So I can understand that decision. They're going to have a big team in the Caulfield Cup, still waiting on a jockey for Kings Valley, but most of their jockeys have been booked.
Speaker 2Yeah. Who does Harry Coffey ride in the Caulfield Cup?
Speaker 13That is a good question. He's on standby. He was in the mix to ride Royal Supremacy, and then I think Blake was also in the mix for that horse as well. But Jamie Spencer obviously rides. So I think Harry Coffey might ride Juju Kibo if he gets in. If he gets a start. There you go.
Speaker 2Any other news? Jamie Spencer, Johnny, he's got a ride in the Caulfield Cup. One of the great men of international racing. Hang on, hang on, hang on. Is he riding for you, Johnny?
Speaker 10Yeah. No, he's riding for Australian Bloodstock. He's got a great relationship. He's a ripper. He'll come out and have a bit of fun for the carnival.
Speaker 2Did you listen to, on Dean, Dean Evans' Winning Edge Investments, the preview with Luke Murrell and Dean regarding the internationals?
Speaker 10I think Luke Murrell's out of Australian Bloodstock now. Is he? I think he's out altogether. Oh, okay. You shamed him, didn't you? Well, I didn't shame him, but I think he's out. I think he's out. But Jamie's still leading the charge, I'm pretty sure. So there you go. Any other news, Trent?
Speaker 13Just a bit of news from the Graham Beg Yard. Splashback had a jump out this morning. She won her, it looks really good. She resumed in the McEwen and then to the C4 States. So Kuma won't have another run before going to the Melbourne Cup. He'll have a trial before that. And she's a hustler who runs in the Caulfield Cup for Beg on Saturday. Unlikely to press onto the Melbourne Cup. The Zipping Classic is the preferred option.
Speaker 2Hey, Trent, you just keep on dominating, mate. We can watch your work and read your work on racing.com. And you can join us on Giddy Up from time to time as well. So we appreciate you. Thank you. Anytime. Thanks, boys. Here's Trent Mason. How's that? Who's your top seeds for the Caulfield Cup?
Speaker 10Right. Here we go. I think they're laughing at what I'm laughing because I've got one.
Speaker 11It's called Eliana and she's not running. She's not going to the Melbourne Cup either. She should be running the Caulfield Cup. I think Kieran will win the race. With who? Hang on, hang on. You said you were going to run one, two, three.
Speaker 10Well, I'm not going to get a I'm not going to get a run with point of law. Well, that's not my issue. You said you'd run one, two, three. So I think the only horses that can win the Caulfield Cup Cosmic Crusader and then it can't win the Cox Plate. Yeah, here we go.
Speaker 11You're on him now.
Speaker 10Faran. You've got to beat 20 links in a turn. St George. Royal Supremacy. Okay. Kings Valley.
Speaker 2Royal Supremacy with Jamie Spencer aboard.
Speaker 10Yeah. And Kings Valley. Your man. They're the only horses that can win the Caulfield Cup. She's a hustler, can run a place.
Speaker 11That's it. You're going to give Spencer a ride on the day?
Speaker 10I don't think I'll have enough runners. Jamie, I love you mate. You're very tough. No, you don't love him. I'll catch him for a drink, I'll love him at the races. I do love him.
Speaker 11He won't be going to the Osmond. He'll go to the Osmond. No, he won't. He will. I need to front up to you afterwards. No, I love Jamie Spencer.
Speaker 10I love him too, he's a ripper. He's a good fella. One of the best blokes of all time.
Speaker 2Who do you think will win the Caulfield Cup? It's so open. Were you surprised that Cosmic Crusader went there?
Speaker 11Yeah, I was. Why? Well, I thought they'd just keep him to 2,000. So, you know what? It's a great time of year to have these debates. They are genuine pub debates. And when you're in the hot seat with the blowtorch on you, geez, it's tough.
Speaker 2What's Bob say about Federalist?
Speaker 11Well, He's running good. He's a class one horse. You should go take him to the railway. Well, we could take him a lot of places. But the bottom line is, he's a gelding at 10 starts. And a horse like him could win a Doncaster in the autumn and just go bang. So he's going to go from the Scheisenhaus to the penthouse quite quick. Are you tipping for the Caulfield Cup? I really don't know. I think it's so open. And it's going to be such a good race. And they got 18,000 there last Saturday, and they're tipping a belter for this weekend. So hopefully the weather's going to be-- the weather gods are going to be good. Because it's quite amazing, isn't it? I mean, you look at the weather we had seven, eight days ago. We had three inches of rain. And Caulfield had three inches of rain, sun, wind, everything fantastic. And the track race so much better. When we have conditions leading into the track, leading into the big race days, it makes it so much easier for our curators.
Speaker 2I've got to take a break. We need a weather update heading towards Everest Day with Josh Holtz. No, Josh Holtz. He's a racing man from Channel 10. He'll join us next.
Speaker 1Love it. Text us on 0-4-double-9-7-3-6-7-3-6. Live across Australia, this is "Giddy Up with Gareth Hall."
Speaker 2Welcome back to "Giddy Up, Gareth Hall." Wayne Hawkes, Johnny O'Neill with you. Now, he's the greatest weatherman going around. He's a superstar, Josh Holtz from Channel 10. You know why he's great? Because he's a punter. Is he? He's one of us. He does a great job with Sandra Sally on the Channel 10 News.
Speaker 11Sandra's a great racing fan, too. Is she, too? Yeah. Absolutely she is.
Speaker 2And Josh joins us now. Josh, welcome back to "Giddy Up, mate." We appreciate you. Thanks for joining us.
Speaker 14G'day, Gareth. G'day, team.
Speaker 2Good to be with you once again. What kind of track will we have on Saturday at Randwick? I'm asking for a friend.
Speaker 14Asking for everyone, I think. The buzz around the Everest this year is just absolutely fantastic. Once again, we love to see it. Look. Today, the week looks like being Tuesday tomorrow. We've got a trough of low pressure in front moving across New South Wales, so that instability increases. Look, I just want to put this out there to the punters, because I think there'll be a lot of them jumping on the Bureau website this week to see what's going on. And when you look at the rainfall, you'll get an amount on the right-hand side. So on Tuesday, it says 7 to 25 millimetres. It's really important, guys, when you're looking at the forecast to remember that the 7 is a 75 per cent chance, and the 25 millimetres is a 25 per cent chance. So just always remember that. It doesn't mean there's going to be 25 millimetres, so just remember that. It is still going to be insane at the wettest day of the week. Look, I think personally, looking at the forecast, we're going to get around about the 15 millimetre mark. Then Wednesday, don't worry about it. You've got a shower icon there, possible shower. It'll be essentially dry, so no dramas there. Thursday, I think, looks pretty good as well. There might be the odd shower around. But it's not going to be Armageddon or anything like that. Where we're probably going to look at the forecast in detail is on Wednesday for Friday and Saturday. That's where there is quite a bit of discrepancy about how much rain that we're going to get on those days. And as we know, as race goers and punters, rain on race day means a lot. So the track can deteriorate rapidly if we do get that rain on race day. Look at this stage, I'm not hitting the panic button. I don't think there's any scenario where we're on a good four come Saturday, just because we don't have that fine dry weather during the week to dry out the track. So I think we're definitely going to be on a soft track. At this stage, my best forecast would be we're going to be on at least a soft five, possibly a soft six. But if we get that rain later in the week, then the track could get a little bit worse than that. So fingers crossed that doesn't happen.
Speaker 11Wayne. Josh, the question I was going to ask you was sun's one thing that dry out tracks, but the biggest thing that dries a track out the quickest is wind. Is wind. Or is there any forecast of any type of wind to be fair?
Speaker 14Yeah, no, the winds don't look overly strong, Wayne, at this stage, it looks pretty light on this week. So as I was saying, just with this particular forecast, I don't think we're going to see any drying conditions with the sun or the wind in particular.
Speaker 11Gee, I'll tell you what, on Saturday at Caulfield, there were so many people that come up to me and said, if the track ain't perfect, we're all on tempted. And the other thing is just quickly- What do you mean?
Speaker 2You reckon tempted will beat carrying rising?
Speaker 11I'm telling you. I'm telling you, half a dozen people walked up to me and said, don't worry about carrying, tempted. If there's a bit of give in the track, she's the one. And the other thing that we didn't actually, we didn't mention Josh was, why wouldn't Cindy Alderson be kicking up for a spot in the Everest? Because that horse has earned its chance. And here we go. All of a sudden, Josh has said, might be a five, might be a six. We don't know at this stage. It could change the whole thing around because if carrying doesn't like the wet track, everyone that's been avoiding carrying for the last six months, we look at that race going, oh, maybe we should have had a cracker.
Speaker 2That's why, that's why Johnny went with Jimmy Star.
Speaker 10All I've got to say is we've still got to beat it. I don't care what the track's like, it wouldn't make any difference. I wouldn't- Yeah. I tend to agree with that as well. I think it's going to be hard to beat. Yeah. And I think we're all, you know, we're trying to get the Star beat, but if it's three or four links off its best, it'll still win.
Speaker 2Will it be cold on Saturday? Do I bring a jacket or what do we do, Josh?
Speaker 14Yeah, it'll be about 22 degrees, but it'll probably, the winds will be onshore, so it'll feel probably a little bit cooler than that. Will it be cold? Still not, still not cold, cold. Not Melbourne cold, you know, when you get a flood going through.
Speaker 2No. What about, what about Caulfield Saturday?
Speaker 14Yeah. And look, I've got some better news, guys, in regards to Melbourne, funny that. So we've got a great forecast this week. There is a little bit of shower activity as we get through today and tomorrow, but look, not much to speak of. And then we've got some beautiful conditions for the rest of the week. A little bit overcast Wednesday, but then sunny Thursday, Friday and remaining fine on Saturday. So I can't see any scenario. We're not on a good fall come Caulfield Cup day.
Speaker 10Beautiful. That's what we want for Zahran and for, for my grey horse, St. George. If not, Josh, we need you to get the Channel 10 chopper for us and go up and down the straight and dry that out. We sold that.
Speaker 14Oh, you sold it. Yeah. She's gone.
Speaker 11She's gone, unfortunately. Gareth won't need it. Even seven and nine share one in Sydney these days. Yeah. Gareth won't need the chopper because Gareth will be in the limo hugging Jaymex, so you'll be nice and warm to get the races from Gareth.
Speaker 2Yeah. be it Everest or Caulfield Cup day?
Speaker 11Actually, I've got a flight booked. with Sydney. No, I'm going to stay home. Yeah. I'm going to stay home.
Speaker 2Josh, any specials for us, mate? We know you love a punt.
Speaker 14Look, I think Carl Jung-Rosling will be hard to beat in the Everest, that's for sure. King Charles. My horse is going pretty well at the moment. Who's that? He's running out at Tamworth today. It's a horse called VeloCet. He's only had a couple of starts. He won his first maiden at Dubbo a couple of weeks ago, which we're pretty stoked about. So he's in today up to a mile out at Tamworth and Race 5. Beautiful. Tamworth tipping.
Speaker 11He's good, this bloke, isn't he?
Speaker 14Tipping him at Tamworth.
Speaker 10He's got the weather. He's tipping horses. This is the best ever. Giddy up, Josh.
Speaker 2Thanks for that, mate. Just what we do, boys. Thanks, lads. We appreciate this, Josh Holt. Hi, boys. It's Pauline from Ipswich here. We've got about five minutes of questions. If you compare the results started between Kieran and Team Hawks, there is nothing between them. Can't believe I'm saying this, but Waino might be right. That's from – who's that, Pauline? Pauline or Shane? I don't know. Spot on, Hawksy. Where did the horse that sat outside blind race and pestered run, Stone Lars?
Speaker 11That annoys me.
Speaker 2Was the trainer or jockey question? Wouldn't have. What else have we got for you? How good by Team Friedman to spell, call me coach. Just a great decision. We'll make a wonderful autumn three-year-old.
Speaker 11It's that time of the year where you have to decide what you're going to do. I mean, the filly of mine that won on Saturday, Cooker Casley, we haven't mentioned her, but the kitchen cupboard, she's –
Speaker 10What is it named after?
Speaker 11It's German and Norwegian for kitchen cupboard or small little kitchen cupboard.
Speaker 2Is that a – Tell you what, it's a nice horse. Is that a Coolmore horse?
Speaker 11Now – Cooker Casley. No. A Coolmore as in three weeks' time? Yeah. No, no. Cooker Casley, officially right now, is on the way to the spelling farm. Okay. So we're stopping with her because you need to give them a spell because, as I said to you before, it's autumn racing and summer racing, so she's had two starts, two wins, and there's a million-dollar race coming up in three or four weeks' time, but whatever it is, she's got to do it. Is that where it's going? No, it's going to the paddock. Oh, right. Because you've had two runs. You can't keep going to the wheel.
Speaker 10No. Tempted to go in there anyway. Yeah. It'll go to the –
Speaker 2No, no, you're talking the three-year-old filly race here in Melbourne. Oh, okay. Gents, Sir Dilley is an absolute top pick for the Cox Plate, second coming of Fiorante, and Johnny Larchie said it was the second coming saintly. The more you bet, the more you win. Where would you have Ethan Brown in jockey ranks? Personally, I love backing him. He's top three for me.
Speaker 11Agree. Well, as far as improvement, if you're being fair, as far as improvement goes, Ethan Brown and Rachel King are two jockeys that have dead set wherever they were, they've jumped panels in getting towards the top of the tree.
Speaker 2100% on our King Wayne. You said that she is one of the best jockeys in the country. Tell me a better one right now. No, I don't know too much about the jockeys racing outside of Australia.
Speaker 11I don't either, but I'm saying tell me who's better than what she is right now.
Speaker 2Well, Safi Osborne won the St. Legend there the other day.
Speaker 11Not the same class.
Speaker 2Every three. Three-year-old has performed well and a Cox player has become a quality stallion. All too hard. So you think Octagonal, Seamus Award, Castle Vecchio, Savabill. I hope Wayne trains the last one every weekend. Actually, he's happy and funny today for a change. First time I've watched you blokes. I don't think I'll work Mondays anymore. Great banter. Wayne Woolwoven had synthetic cool filler first time. Obviously, no worries. When do you have to worry about that?
Speaker 11Well, when it's there as a gear change, which I don't like people seeing that because people overthink these things. I mean, they're animals. So they have issues. Now, that'll be no different to any human athlete going, I need the podiatrist because my foot is not 100% when they're running and using their feet. So this is the day-to-day stuff that we deal with. Yes, what it tells you is the horse has got something wrong with its foot, but it might not have. Well, it might just be a one-off thing. It could have been having a roll in the sand roll and ripped a shoe and just ripped a bit of foot off as well. It's only, when I say foot, as in toenail. Yeah. So you could rip your toenail or your fingernail and it'd be not so bad. But if you go close to the quick, that's the same thing that happens with the horses.
Speaker 10I was reading up on Paradoxium and I might be incorrect. It might've been the previous start, but I think it definitely had synthetic cool filler. No, it did for the first time. It did. Here we go. So that may have been an excuse for it. Hey, boys, we've run out of time.
Speaker 2We've got to run through. I just want a one-word answer if we can for our seedings. This is for David King. He loves this part of the show. Cosmic Crew. Oh, Caulfield Cup. Cosmic Crew. Crusader. And who are you with, Johnny? Zaran. Zaran. Everest. Kaying. Tempted. Coxplate. Serdelius. Birdman. Aliana. Victoria Derby. No idea.
Speaker 11Well done. It's worth three million. Should it be 2,000 metres? We'll talk about that in the next couple of weeks.
Speaker 10No. Skua. Victoria Derby. Two R. How many
Speaker 11courses does the Caulfield Guineas go on? It's going to run the Derby. There'll be very few, wouldn't it?
Speaker 2Coolmore Stud Stakes. Coolmore. Satana Glow for mine. No. Kieran will win that. The next episode.
Speaker 11Satana went pretty good. It's a good horse. Went pretty good. And goes good down the straights. 100% it does. Melbourne Cup. Joseph O'Brien. Got no idea. I'm going to trust my instinct.
Speaker 2Is your instinct good? I reckon I might have.
Speaker 11I reckon. You do facials and live in Parkdale. I reckon J-Mac.
Speaker 2I reckon J-Mac might be one on my Joseph O'Brien.
Speaker 11Oh, J-Mac. J-Mac O'Brien.
Speaker 2I think there's five hopes in the Melbourne Cup.
Speaker 10Who? Defiantly. It can't win. Chocolates. Yes. Middle Earth. Yes. Knight's Choice. Okay. And Point of Law. There you go. There's your five hopes in the Melbourne Cup.
Speaker 11Question without notice. Knight's Choice. What was the weight he carried and what weights he carried this year?
Speaker 2I think he hits 56 in the Cup. Does he? The Caulfield Cup. I've got to tell you, it's flying. It should have won on the weekend. Yeah, rang good. Rang good. Always. Good pleasure, boys. Something for the battlers. I don't have, I don't have
Speaker 11my winners this week, last weekend.
Speaker 10Flying Wayne. Got a nice two-year-old running Wednesday called Soldi, S-O-L-D-I. Okay. What colours? Which a few of my lunatic mates, Johnny Icon and Carlos, Jason Castagna's father's in it with me. Okay. Tiger's Colours and it means cash in Italian, apparently, or money in Italian.
Speaker 11Nice horse. Can run a place. It's been a great show this morning, Gareth. Yes. How do you know, Gary? Little Gary. How do you know? Little Gary. Little Gary, eh? Do you think so? I only let my mates call me Gary.
Speaker 2Don't you, Gary?
Speaker 11That was Gary, folks, on Giddy Up, and he'll be back after the break. There you go.
Speaker 1Live across Australia, this is Giddy Up with Gareth Hall. It's now time for the Monday Breakdown with Mick Gannon.
Speaker 2We're going to break down what happened at Rose Hill with Mick Gannon's horses to follow. G'day, Mick. G'day, G. Sorry, the boys ran over today. They're on fire, so we just had to keep them galloping like Land Legend did there at Caulfield. But what did you make of Rose Hill? Yeah, let them run. What did you make of Rose Hill?
Speaker 15Yeah, really good meeting of racing, G. He played pretty fast. Pretty fast, but there were some average rides. There were some good performances, and I think you'd suggest that the best horses got the job done. So, yeah, it was a really good meeting.
Speaker 2Wayne's hanging around to see what you say about his horse, the one, that three-year-old that he sent to the paddock. Cooker Cashley. Cooker Cashley, yes.
Speaker 15Good horse. I think I tipped it to Wayne during the week, so that's good. He'll be happy with that.
Speaker 2Did you back it, Wayne?
Speaker 15No, I didn't back it.
Speaker 2Did I see Jane Hawke celebrating at 1.30 that you posted? They're on social media? What? 1.30? Was it Jane or Claire?
Speaker 11No, Claire it would have been. Yeah, Team Hawks. Jane was tucked up in bed on Saturday night. Yes, yes. So it wasn't Jane.
Speaker 15Hey, Wayne, the team's flying. Absolutely well done, mate. So the team's going really good.
Speaker 2Must be all the data you're using, Wayne.
Speaker 15You've got your tactics right. Sorry. Why So Hard was good, too, G. And to Wayne's credit, he actually gave me a nudge about his horse and said, watch him because he's flying. And he was exceptional. Bumped into Satana Glo, who she's airborne, but fitness edge there. He followed both of those.
Speaker 11Just a bugger with him. He's sort of like three weeks behind, three or four weeks behind where you'd want him to be. So first up. Is he Cornwall? No. First, no, he's a miler. I'll tell you what he is. He's a dead set Ramwick Guineas, Rose Hill Guineas horse for next autumn. So now we're at the, do we run and give him another run in a couple of weeks time or do we just put him away? He's only had one start and one. We put him away. It was a hard effort to be eligible for Benchmark 66 to run the Roman Consul. And he gets clear room and gets crack and he goes close to winning that race. So if you didn't watch his race, go and have a look at him. He's the, he's a lovely, lovely horse. And yeah, I was talking to Mickey on, on Saturday morning and we were, I was telling him that he goes pretty good. Yeah. Well, well done Wayne, that's enough for you. Thank you. I wasn't actually hanging around to talk to Mickey. I was just packing my bag up. I'm excited. Did you listen to the means test this morning, Mick? Yeah, unbelievable stuff. It was my second best, my second best performance ever. Do you know why? Do you know why? Haven't done the first one. See you boys.
Speaker 2You sound like David Taggart today. I am like Santana glow. Would you, she, should she be close to favorite for a cool more after watching her there on Saturday?
Speaker 15What price is she for a cool model? Bring it up now. If that's really, yeah, she's $5, $5, 50 cents. So she's second favorite. I think that's appropriate. Um, yeah, she was really good there. The race did. The race did sort of pan out really well. Like the reason I took her on and pay Antonis on the Sydney Cedric, the way he was keen to be with her. And I just thought, right. or 1200 metres, I think. The ride was tactically inept, to be completely honest with you, Gareth, like on Paradoxium. There's no need for a low draw to go that quick. And not just go that quick, continue to go that quick to the 400 metres. So you could have given that horse a breather at some stage, didn't have to lead, was, you know, there to win. And unfortunately, that just went way too quick. Set up well for Satano Glow. Yeah. So full credit to everyone that backed her there. She's a good horse. Should she be second favourite? Yes. The next episode, is he a genuine good track horse, Gareth, or is he just doing his best on rain-affected track? I think St Goddard's probably still very much underrated for the Cornwall. Right place, sort of right time. Give me genuine Switzerland vibes, this horse. Three-horse race at the moment. I don't know who else you could have in that from what we've seen. So the market is all over that.
Speaker 2What did you make of the Hill Stakes?
Speaker 15Yeah, really good. Congratulations. Congratulations to Mitch Freeman. I think Attrition just prepped up beautifully, good to go. I couldn't believe the amount of money. And speaking of Zaki Tunbridge on Saturday for Giddy Up Saturdays, it was 98% of money for Lindemann. That was ludicrous. So I think the easy bet became Attrition at that price because, you know, obviously he had the wood on it last start clearly, and Lindemann had to bounce back. So those two were good, but Attrition was just the best source on the day. And Lindemann will just keep sort of knocking around in these B-grade sort of events. But, yeah. He had his chance. Lindemann, Attrition, too good. Horses to follow? Yes. She's an artist. Speaking about rides that weren't ideal. Like, Dead Set has been beaten 0.74, could have won by three. She's airborne. She just needs a steer. If you go to watch that replay there overhead, she was in front or nearly in front. She was top two, top three in run, you could say, after 50 metres. And she ended up third last on the other three-rounder metamark. Yeah. Remarkable stuff to finish. So, follow. She's an artist. She will be winning races for sure. What else can we follow for the meeting, G? Baron Gary, exceptional. Just spotted a lead of far too big a start. 55.5 kilos versus Anthracite. He'll continue to win races. Just sometimes it's not your day, G.
Speaker 2All right, then, mate. Well, we appreciate your time, as always. We'll catch up with you throughout the week as we continue the build-up to what's nearly the biggest week in Australian racing, Everest Week and Caulfield Cup Week. And so I can't wait for the weekend preview on Friday. But we'll catch up with you. Give us a call tomorrow, G.
Speaker 15The barrier draw. We'll know more about the Everest. We'll dissect all of that.
Speaker 2Yeah, 100%. We'll do that live as we watch that unfold with you, Mickey Gannon. So, yeah, I'll book you in there. That's much appreciated, mate.
Speaker 13Giddy up. Giddy up.
Speaker 2There's Mickey Gannon there, the star of Giddy Up Saturdays with Myles Fitzner. Now, you can tune into Racing WA TV on 7plusandracing.com, your ultimate destination for everything racing in the West. Pete Anthonis, hello to you.
Speaker 16Morning to you, G.
Speaker 2Hall. WA have got a new people's horse.
Speaker 16A new people's horse? I thought it already was. Yeah, it was, actually.
Speaker 2Yeah. And do you know what? People were knocking us when he was getting beat. But you just had to keep the faith. Bassett Hound. Oh, what a champ.
Speaker 16And, look, he's still got plenty of improvement. This race is incredibly fascinating to look at, just purely because there was a very heavy downpour between this race and the race prior. All of a sudden, the track started to really slicken up. Seemingly, horses that were able to build momentum and come wide into the straight were suddenly favoured, which makes the day incredibly difficult to assess. And even just this race, you're looking at it going as good as Bassett Hound was, and like Clockwork, he's obviously a very nice horse in its own right. They've both had divine belief come off their back from last and clear last and run them within a length. So you're looking at this race all of a sudden going as good as the first two were across the line, divine belief has either come back incredibly well off what's been a very, very messy preparation so far and has improved out of sight, coming from a very unfavourable position, typically for that mare's career, or the first two have basically dragged her into the race and all of a sudden the top three have run very good sharp splits. Now, you're going through the times on what would typically be a soft five track, and perhaps these times are a little bit, you know, we need to just tinker with them a little bit, given that rain that I mentioned beforehand. But the time itself is probably pretty much within, you know, what you'd expect to be standard. It's pretty much bang on from what I've got from 1,000 metres for that sort of class going back in the past. So, look, it's a difficult race to assess. Look, clearly Bassett Hound's going to improve. I think he's still much better over 1,200 metres from what I've seen to date, and a lot of clockwork as well. Just that horse dropping back to 1,000, I was speaking with a few of the punters there on course, and probably everyone was trying to wrap their head around why you would go back to 1,000 from the 1,200 when you're probably looking at being more a strike weapon going up in distance. I think it's actually a really smart little bit of training from, from Nicky Grantham in that it's probably going to keep an extra bit of sprint in her legs. So, this is one of the more interesting races I think we've got for the entire spring, and we've got it on opening day.
Speaker 2Can they feature in any of the group ones, or is it too early?
Speaker 16I've been getting an eye on them both. Like clockwork is a very impressive mare. She's got a very strong front end. I would not put anything past her on how she looks. And Bassett Hound's still just, you know, he's still not the furnished article. I've listened to Paddy Carberry speak about him a couple of times in the last week, and obviously, you know, the inclinations people want to talk about Joker's Grin. I just don't think you can really compare them in terms of the sort of horses they are, and, you know, they've both got a really good finishing burst on them. But Joker's Grin's a much different shaped animal to what Bassett Hound is. I don't think anyone really knows what sort of horse Bassett Hound is. I don't think he knows what the sort of horse he wants to be. It's just that sort of horse that's still just improving with every run and still trying to work out exactly what it means to be a racehorse.
Speaker 2What about Big Red Zoom? Mitchell Pateman can't do anything wrong at the moment.
Speaker 16No, the stable's humming. Big Red Zoom, really nice type. He was obviously one of the more difficult horses to get a read on into this Max Simmons. Only had the one race that was at Bunbury. You know, it was only, what, 58 days prior to that run there, and really it's difficult form to line up. But it was a very strong performance there at Bunbury. It was the best of the day figure. So, you know, you couldn't really knock a horse on what we'd seen there. Look, the race really did. One fold for those horses on pace to a certain degree. Dawn Dancer and Maria Lucia really set the tempo and they had a bit of a gap there. It just meant that Big Red Zoom got the inside run. But you're not knocking what the horse has done because, look, Boy Crush was there to try and run it down. A fire of Pitcher Coles was probably one of the biggest flashing light runs of the day. And I think my immediate reaction looking at the horse pre-race was, well, he needs two runs at least. So it would not surprise me if he goes flat there next time out. I think he'll be a betting opportunity because the run was so obvious. But Boy Crush, Big Red Zoom, both very nice three-year-olds all of a sudden, physically well-developed. And Oren Bell's improved significantly from when I last saw her. And I'm not sure what to make of her run because she was three-wide no-cover, but he's a Machino who was four-wide no-cover, kept going. But Oren Bell, I was surprised how much more she had to come. I thought she might have been more screwed down physically. But, look, it's just that time of year, isn't it? You don't know exactly what anyone's grand final is. They're in W8 because of the way that the calendar now works. These three-year-olds have so many options going forward. So trying to piece together how all these horses fit in the scheme of things, it's going to be the challenge for the next couple of months.
Speaker 2Horses to follow.
Speaker 16Look, I thought On Patrol was a really good run out of that last race. I think a lot of people look at Fine Star and the fact that that race is a bit of a mess. But I really like the trials of On Patrol going into that. It had a small wager and was never in the race the way that, full credit to Stevie Parton, he got God's Gate over the line this time. He was leading and just basically schooled them. So I think On Patrol in the last is probably one that I'll be following. As I said, I'll be just leaving a five-digit goal for now. I'll be looking for two runs from now. But I'll have something on Boy Crush again next time out. I'm taking the towel that horse paraded there on the weekend, Jay.
Speaker 2Beautiful. I love it. Jason Lyon, great to see him riding in WA as well. One of my favourites. So there you go.
Speaker 16Yeah, he wasn't afraid to put the hip and shoulder in. I'll put it that way.
Speaker 2Hey, good on him. Good on him. Hey, good on you, Pete. It's going to be some carnival. I reckon, like, hopefully, Jigsaw, Ray McNerio, Stapardi, these are the horses that I know a great chance of heading to WA. I'm even hearing Aussie curse thinking about taking Buckaroo for the railway and the northerly. So I reckon it's going to be a healthy representation of Eastern State Gallopers heading to Western Australia.
Speaker 16And look, after the way the track's played the last couple of years, why wouldn't you? It's the best-performed track in the country, Jay, and I'm still sticking by that.
Speaker 2Highlight for you on Saturday?
Speaker 16I was watching Mitch and Josh Pateman celebrate Basset Hound. I didn't watch the race. I was watching them, and I got more entertainment just from watching Mitch trying to use Josh as a. I'm not sure what he was trying to. But he still gets the shell alien.
Speaker 2Yeah, he's on fire, Mitchie Pateman. He'll draw me for an extensive chat tomorrow. Hey, good on you. Thanks for that, Pete. Thanks, Gary. We'll find you some winners today across the three codes with bag of tips next.
Speaker 1The Giddy Up Bag of Tips for Oz Equipment Rentals. Supplying equipment to the construction, mining, and roadworks industries.
Speaker 2ozequipment.com We'll find you some winners with bag of tips across the three codes, all thanks to Bet365, the Ultima Hotel and Oz Equipment Rentals. The Bet365 Boost Horse is Japanese mockery. unbelievable it could be the omen bet today $2.75 there with bet360 Is that you, Paulie Sebastiani? It is. He hasn't missed of late. Not a namesake either, Gareth, after today.
Speaker 5I promise it's not.
Speaker 2All right, then. This man's dominating. Geez, I'm loving his work on RSN SEN track on the first word on Saturday morning. And himself and his brother, Trevor, just gone to new levels on correct weight. What a show they're doing there for us. And he joins us now, Nick Noonan. Hello, Nick. And you nearly got the cash in the last race. I couldn't believe it. I thought you were home there on Seymour Cup Day.
Speaker 17Yeah, good off-line, Mickey. Yeah, we went close. We're into the final now, so we're off to Oaks Day. And we've got to maybe plot a path on how to get there now. But it's a good problem to have.
Speaker 2What about today, Bairnsdale?
Speaker 17It's a tough meeting. There's a bit of rain forecast as well. So if that hits, that's probably going to make things even harder. That boost horse, he's a pursuant stalloon. And they love the wet. So maybe you're hoping the rain does come for Japanese Mock Island with the best bet in the first race in Passio, race one, number 13. Just happy to forgive last start at Bendigo. He was slowly away. He did his best work late in that race. And that was a much stronger race than what he could test here. His runs prior at Mornington, they would sort of stack up in a race like this and have him clear favourites. So I was happy to make him the best of the day, race one, number 13.
Speaker 2Beautiful. Next best?
Speaker 17Or the value? I've gone with the value for today. I thought it was a pretty tricky punting program. But I think race eight, number eight, delightful journey. Pretty much had a bite. Last start at Moe, he just went around for a trial. Had no luck in the straight. He's got a good record at Bairnsdale. He likes wet ground. And Bairnsdale is a track that favours horses on pace. So I think he can get right near the speed and give you a good sight at some each-way odds there, race eight, number eight. In terms of a quaddie, playing skinny enough early, they'll come home a bit wider. First leg will go two and three. Two and three. Second leg will take three and four. Three and four. Third leg will go five, ten and eleven. Five, ten and eleven. They'll come home a bit wider in the last with one, seven, eight and.
Speaker 2Sixteen. Yeah, one, seven
Speaker 17and eight there for the last.
Speaker 2Nice, yeah. Hey, mate, a lot of fun across the weekend. As I said, you've been dominating on all your platforms, but especially on SE and track and RSN. So bring on this week. One of the great weeks.
Speaker 17Looking forward to it. It was deep into the international form last night.
Speaker 2What have you found?
Speaker 17Gee, I like Point of Law. I really like him as a horse. It's just a matter of what races he gets into.
Speaker 2Moonee Valley Cup. If he gets into the Portfield Cup,
Speaker 17he might be a great bet somewhere else.
Speaker 2Yeah. I think he's going to Moonee Valley Cup on the way to the Melbourne Cup.
Speaker 17Yeah. Okay, well, I think I'll be on. All right, then.
Speaker 2There you go. Good on you, mate. Thanks, Gareth. There's Nick Noonan. Luke Ovenessian likes race one. Number one, spends a lot. Race seven, number seven, Athena's Treasure. Good morning to you, Jane Ivel. Good morning to you, Gareth. How are you? I am very well. Jeez, Y-TAC was great again to go back-to-back in the Livermore Classic at Group 1 level on the weekend.
Speaker 18Yeah, he's been a very good horse for Lance O'Sullivan and Andrew Scott. He has a bit of a walk. He's a good horse, to be honest, and he's sort of proved, particularly on Saturday, that he's the best wait-for-age galloper we have going around in New Zealand at the moment. So he did, obviously, the Howden Mile into the Livermore Double. Did exactly the same thing last year. And I think the only other horse ever to do that is Melody Bell. So she was a pretty exceptional race mare. But look, he's just been terrific. Look, if you look at his record, I know I've spoken about it before. He's just incredibly versatile. He's won Group Ones at 1200 metres, winning a race. He's done it on the railway in New Zealand. He's represented New Zealand in a quokka over in Perth. And now he's winning Group One races at 2000 metres. So he's just a real marvel for the entire team. He'll have a little bit of a freshen up now. And then I think he's going to head to Trentham in December and go back to the mile at Group One level there. Tuxedo, he had every chance. A peach of a ride by Opie Bossom. But I'm not sure that maybe taking the blinkers off was probably the right idea in the end. He didn't actually travel any kinder without the blinkers on. He's a horse that travels quite firm on the bit in a race. And he still did that minus the blinkers. And he just hit the front a long way out and stargazed a little bit. So he certainly didn't concentrate to the line, Tuxedo. And we'll see him in Australia next. He's heading to a Five Diamonds. So that's the path they're electing to take with Tuxedo.
Speaker 2Craig Grylls had a good day. And War Princess just continues to get better after taking out the Spring Stakes there at Hastings.
Speaker 18Yeah, Craig, look, he obviously has been the leading jockey in New Zealand for the last two seasons and won premierships with absolute ease, to be honest. He's actually started the season a little bit slow this year, probably off the back of two incredibly busy seasons. But it was a good day for him in the saddle. He picked up the two stakes races. And War Princess, she's one that's really flying the flag for the father and son training partnership of Peter and Trent Didham. Trent's only been in partnership with his father for about 12 months. And she's really the horse that's putting their name in light. She's got a terrific winning record. And she just keeps stepping up when they ask. She's now a dual group three winner. It'll be interesting to see whether they look at something a little bit stronger for her over the Christmas/New Year period. But she is headed to the paddock now to have a little bit of a break. And they'll sort of bring her back for summer racing. I thought there were some good runs in behind her. Amazing Son was really eye-catching for Lisa Ladder. I thought that his late sectionals were super and affirmative action. Looks like he's come back much better this preparation as well. So they're certainly horses worth following.
Speaker 2And then annoyingly good performance of the week. National tiles, annoyingly good products, prices, and service. It was land legend. But I reckon War Woven for mine. And that means it was a big day for New Zealand breeding, especially with Cambridge stud, because that's the home of War Woven's old man sort of state.
Speaker 18Look, I mean, obviously sitting with my Kiwi hat on, it was just an incredible weekend for New Zealand based stallions. You've got War Woven, who, as you mentioned, sort of state Cambridge stud. He's now a dual group one winner. And he's doing a terrific job for sort of state. But Blind Rays by Ace High finished into second. So it was a New Zealand based stallion, Quinella. And if we're being really cheeky, we can claim Bjorn Baker and Trent Busseton as well as expat Kiwis. You can have Bjorn. You can have Bjorn. And then Chris Waller and James Macdonald took out the two rack as well. Stop it, Jane.
Speaker 2And they've got you, Jane. Jane Ivell just brings a smile to my face every time. Such a beautiful lady and great tipster. So that's from one of our listeners, 432. I don't know if that is your beautiful husband or not. But anyway, you got a fan, Jane?
Speaker 18Yeah, I might have paid Brad to send that one through.
Speaker 2Hey, but you make a good point.
Speaker 18But no, it was a good weekend for Kiwi based stallions, I mean, even up in Sydney, you had Proxima Dea, who's by Tarzino, and Setono Glow, who's by Setono Aladdin, who stands at Rich Hill Stud. So I think you could be pretty proud as a Kiwi breeder or a Kiwi stud owner on Saturday with some of the results that we saw on the track.
Speaker 2I've got a minute left. So thanks to Lillydale Instant Lawn, Australian family owned quality turf delivered on time every time our roots run deep. To wrap it up, who's a better chance if they go to the Cox Plate War woven or blind raised?
Speaker 18Well, that's a head over heart. One for me. Look, my head tells me that War Woven's a pretty exceptional colt. I think he'll put up a fight in a Cox Plate. But I thought Blind Raised was brave at the weekend. He did a little bit of work early, and I think that probably told in his run in the finish. And Blind Raised is actually the grandson of a Kiwi mare called Sea Change that I looked after in her career. And she was a dual New Zealand Horse of the Year. So my heart tells me that it would be amazing if Blind Raised could win a Cox Plate.
Speaker 2Hey, Jane, thanks for joining us as always. We appreciate your time.
Speaker 18Yeah, we'll see you a bit later in the week.
Speaker 2Yeah, there's Jane Ivell there. Thanks for your company on Giddy Up. It's been a busy show on this Monday. Have a great day. Catch you again tomorrow.
