Speaker 2Yes, I apologise for that. It's such an important day as well as the 25th anniversary of 9-11. Can you find us a winner today? Are you confident that you'll be able to find some winners at Flemington?
Speaker 3Yeah, well, it looks upon us, program. Yes. It could be interesting if the favourites, by late in the day when the festivities have taken shape, the favourites could be very short on the tote in the last few races. They could, couldn't they?
Speaker 2Oh, yeah, they could be horrific. All the all-up players, the multi-players. So, I'm looking forward to dissecting this meeting at Flemington tomorrow afternoon because usually they say Turnbull Stakes Day is moving day, but I reckon McKay B. Deaver's got a case for that now, in a way.
Speaker 3Yes, yeah, for sure. You find horses where they're, you know, three-year-olds, where they're going to go. Can they run distances? Yes, they can run distances, see how horses have come back from a spell. It's a fantastic day's racing, and it's always better when the races are at Flemington. There's just that little bit extra about them. So, looking forward to it.
Speaker 2Liam O'Keefe's the man who's in charge of making sure this track is ready to go for this group one day. He joins us now. G'day, Liam. Morning, Gareth, Mark. You got a ticket to the NFL? Surely.
Speaker 4I haven't, no. With racing, it's just going to be a little bit difficult because we're putting a little bit of water on too. I would have loved to have gone, but hopefully it falls on a non-racer. That's dedication, Mark.
Speaker 3He doesn't miss out on much. He's just come back from a Grand Prix overseas. Yeah, yeah. Every concert known to man over there, so he's not missing out.
Speaker 4How will this track play? It'll play well. We've railed back to true. We've had a break since Ori Star. We've renovated the track, and it's coming back really well. It's a good time of year for us with the cool season grass. It just starts to turn the last two or three weeks and presents with a nice, lush cover, so I expect it to race well.
Speaker 2Yeah. Where is the rail?
Speaker 4The rail is back in the true position, so we raced here at the 10-metre mark for Ori Star. We renovated that inside 10 after our July meeting, ran Ori Star. Then we renovated from 10 to 30 metres after the big set of jumpouts we had a few days after Ori Star, and it's recovered really well. Beautiful.
Speaker 2So we should be on a good four throughout the day. Any chance of an upgrade, or do you think we'll be right?
Speaker 4Yeah, I think we'll get an upgrade. We always plan to try to get an upgrade halfway during the day to a good three, so yeah, it should be nice. Nice, good going. Should suit everyone. Wind conditions? Wind conditions, 10 to 15 kilometre northerly, so at that wind speed it shouldn't have an impact, but just keep an eye on the windsock at the 600 just in case it does kick up any higher because normally we see that does disadvantage leaders around the circle, and they'll run quite good times down the straight with that gentle tailwind. And where do you want to be down the straight? The straight races are mainly early in the card, so I would think probably the middle, but maybe later in the day. I think there's one sprint race, might be the Bobby Lewis later in the day. They might be more middle to outside.
Speaker 2What mail have you got for us?
Speaker 4I haven't got any mail, unfortunately. Yeah, haven't been able to get anything, but I'll be having She's Alibi, Sir Delius Quinella in the big one.

Speaker 5Okay. Well, I think the Rams are morals, so you're going to go Rams to win.

Speaker 5And then four legs. I reckon you do a little four-legger to keep you excited for the day. You take Rams to win. You take Stafford over one-and-a-half touchdowns.

Speaker 5Aku Nakua, 70 yards receiving, and McCaffrey, four receptions. Yeah. I'll have to dump the ball off, because the Rams there, you'll be all up in Purdy's face, so he's going to have to do a little short dump-off. So that's my multi, mate. Four bucks for you, Mark. $400. Beautiful. You can go straight to the pub after it and spend it on beer. Yes.
Speaker 2Yes. Sounds good. So what about the Rams? Because you're a man that we can ask, and you're probably one of the best people to ask regarding their travel schedule with all the travel that you do overseas. You're not worried about the Rams just rocking up there in the last 20 minutes? 24 hours and then turning up at the Gene, trying to get the job done?
Speaker 5No, I think it's no worries at all. I think they've both done it right. It's either one or the other. You either do it a week out so you can get acclimatized, or you come a day before. A lot of jockeys, including myself, I've flown into Hong Kong. You ride here on a Saturday, even, and then you sleep on the flight over, and you go and ride. Adrenaline takes you a long way, and they're on American time, so they'll be up and about. It's fine. I think if you go, like, three days, and you're not sleeping, then you're in trouble, but you only need a few hours overnight, and you're good to go this morning.
Speaker 2Let's be honest. When you go on holidays, you probably don't sleep for three days anyway when you arrive. You're that excited.
Speaker 5Well, when I go to ride somewhere, I'm too scared to get there too early because there's too much danger, so I like to get there just before I can ride straight away.
Speaker 2Do you go to sleep when you get to Hong Kong or not?
Speaker 5Nah, because you get there, and I have to jump in the bath and have a sweat. You feel it like this. I mean, the Rams all feel it. Like, tomorrow or the day after, you get stuffed, but, you know, there's nothing to prepare for, so you can have to sleep for a couple of days.
Speaker 2Now, everyone knows Mark Hunter's like your coach in a way, so how many winners do you expect your athlete to have tomorrow, Mark? What would be a pass mark for him?
Speaker 3Probably one.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 3One. He's got some handy rides, but I would say he would be hoping that Mbube can get the job done as his priority.
Speaker 2How good is Mbube? Because we had a chat to Lloyd Kennewell. He tells me that you go out to track work to ride. So, he must be pretty good.
Speaker 5Yeah, they're getting out there someday to push him around. Yeah, no, I like him. He's been a horse. I've had a bit to do with him since the start. I've always had a big opinion of him. Look, there's no place to hide this time of year. He's on a cool more path, so that's what we think of him, and if he's going to win a cool more, he's probably going to win tomorrow, and I expect him to be very hard to beat.
Speaker 2Yeah, and Space Rider, he's unbeaten first up. Can he remain unbeaten?
Speaker 5Yeah, look, I've trialled him without blinkers on sort of heavy, round, so it hasn't been the best guide, but I think when the blinkers go on and his first up form is great, so I think he's been up the straight, but he might be a little bit over the odds, that horse.
Speaker 2Yeah, Cafe Millennium, J.D. Hayes gave us a good push yesterday.
Speaker 5Yeah, he's drawn wide, but I'm actually happy to get on him, so I think he'll be back. If the speed's on, he's a chance to run into the money for sure.
Speaker 2And then Autumn Boy and the Maccabi Diva, place chance?
Speaker 5I reckon he's a great place chance. Yeah. It's a cracking race, but he's drawn well. I think it didn't really, you know, I was in that race on Tom Kitt. and our sources back in the field, especially the ones that went on the outside, were getting bashed up and we never got a nice flow into the race. I reckon the ones up the front, apart from the winner, I reckon second and third were a little bit flattering. They had an uninterrupted run. So I expect, I reckon he can turn the table on, you know, Trezor at the moment and Mr. Brightside to run a hole for sure.
Speaker 2What kind of race will it be tomorrow in the Maccabi Diva? What kind of tempo are you thinking?
Speaker 5Well, it doesn't look like there'll be much tempo. I think, you know, if Mr. Brightside leads, we know how fast they're going. But one thing in my final list, I've drawn well. So I can, if they go slow, I can be not too far away. But yeah, it's, I don't look any obvious speed on paper.
Speaker 2Surely Willow won't let Blake Shing get away with what he got away with last year with Sir Dillis, will he?
Speaker 5You wouldn't think so. But, you know, he's first up Sir Dillis after a long time off. So you wouldn't think he'd want to hammer him either. But he's also always ready to go. So I suppose he's coming back.
Speaker 2They're tricky races, these type of, like it is a group one, but it's the start of a campaign for many of these horses in a way as well. You don't really want to give your horse a gut bust ahead of some bigger goals later on in their campaign.
Speaker 5Yeah. Well, you've seen it with Beewark. If you've got a horse that can run over a short trip and it's up and going and race on speed, like there's some, I wouldn't say easy pickings, but there's some definitely several races early on in the spring for sure.
Speaker 2How many, how many cashies today, Mark?
Speaker 5Uh, look, I'm just ducking over to, uh, Fireball SEM Friends now at the, uh, I think it's Pullman. So I'll get that done. And then, no, I don't want to be annoyed. I want to settle and enjoy the game. Yeah.
Speaker 2Who do you follow in the NFL?
Speaker 5Uh, I'm a Vikings man. Okay. Yeah. I did a photo shoot during the week. I had to wear a, uh, a, um, 49ers top, but my missus is, she's Ram. So I went to put it on this morning. She said, absolutely no. She threw a Rams hat and scarf on me. So I went to put it on this morning. She said, absolutely no. She threw a Rams hat and scarf on me. So that's where I'm at. And I'm going to, I'm going to back them. So that'll, that'll help me cheer for them. Yeah.

Speaker 5Oh, it's huge. It's even got a little bit of Superbowl vibe about it. You know, like I'm just, I'm driving down near the G now and there's all people out with their tops on and that. It's just, what an amazing event.
Speaker 2Favourite Superbowl that you've been to?
Speaker 5Um, I reckon it'll have to be the Vegas one. We went overtime and, um, and the Chiefs one. That was just great. I mean, in the city. And it's always great being in Vegas and being there for a Superbowl and then get to, and then to get a game like that was, uh, yeah, that was, that was my favourite for sure.
Speaker 2I can't believe Shaq Fahad has it rocked up.
Speaker 5No, he's not, he's, he doesn't like coming to Australia that much. He reckons they're a fair way behind the Americans.

Speaker 3Looks magnificent, Gareth. Yes. Absolutely magnificent. So it will firm up, as Liam said. Nice warm day. Sun baking down on it. Might be hard to make ground. Okay. What about down the straight? Where do you want to be? Well, I thought they might come down the inside half.
Speaker 2Okay. Usually we see them come down the outside half.
Speaker 3Yeah. Well, Liam said middle to out. I thought they might come down the inside half. All right then.
Speaker 2So there's an edge.
Speaker 3Well, it's only small fields until the Bobby Lewis.
Speaker 2Yeah. Let's have a look at race number one. And this is an interesting race to kick off proceedings because there's a few horses here at a big price, according to the trainers that we had a chat to yesterday, especially for Giddy Up Stable Mail. Naval Academy's the favourite with bet 365 at 350. Ruska Roma at 440. Jet Smashers Troll really nicely at $5. Mark Dell at 550. Moby Dick at 650. And Space Rider, the ride there for Mark Zara, $10 into $7 with bet 365 here, Mark.
Speaker 3Got no idea, Gareth. It's a race, six runners. All of them can win. If you wanted to have a small play in the race, which I won't be, maybe numbers one and three. Space Rider, three from three first up. Been trialling, as Mark said, on the heavy ground. No blinkers and not really tested, so no real guide. I think he can go forward here, Park, just on the back of the speed. The way he won that race at Caulfield, sit three wide, just grind away at them. Same sort of pattern. So Space Rider, a good hope. And Mark Dell, gee, the stable have done a fantastic job since taking this horse over. Just ridden way too aggressively last start. Didn't work for it. Willow jumps back on. It'll sit behind the speed. It's raced well down the straight. I thought it had a good chance, but nothing would shock me. If you want to have a play, maybe one or three.
Speaker 2So one and three for Mark Zara, for Mark Hunter. Now, what about Jet Smash?
Speaker 3It's got a chance. It came a long way last campaign. It looks like the leader for Damien Lane. You'd think it. Naval Academy share the lead, the two favourites. Oh, look, you said it trailed really well. It went forward in that trial. Arkansas Kid quickly got to it. Jet Smash was shaken up. Arkansas Kid was under a hold. It tried okay with that raving. It's got a good chance because it will be the first leader. Should be able to dictate. D-Lane will kick away and he'll walk the track and go to the right spot and it'll give you a good sight.
Speaker 2Let's have a look at race number two at Flemington. This is the Mike Maroney, named after one of the greats. And this is over the 1,400 metres you've got for the three-year-old's unit. Five at first. 4.40 is the market leader. And he's the boost horse. You're getting $5 there with bet $3.65. Something's burning. Unlucky last start. $4.60. Big wigs at $6.50. Lara Antepova at $8. And then who are they backing at a price here? Harry Lyme at $12 as well. And there's a host of good dolphin horses with a chance.
Speaker 3It's a hard race. I like Something's Burning. Obviously well documented. It should have won last time. It and Diameter met it in a race. Up in Sydney last year. Diameter was a better run than Something's Burning. But I think Something's Burning just might have come back a better horse. It had trolled really well before that first up win. Given a great ride there. Went to Sandown. Look, you can see what Blake was doing. I think it's a horse you have to get it to switch off earlier. It gets too keen. So he did exactly that. And things just didn't go right up the straight here. It's drawn to be in that three-wide train. I don't know if Phillip Island's running or not. If it does, it'll help generate a bit more tempo. So you're looking for Ben Mellum to just blend into the race in that three-wide. Three-wide cover with clear air. And Something's Burning will run well. Gee, I think Diameter's big odds. This has got the best 1,400-metre form in the race. It ran well down here in the size produce. Went up to Sydney, competing in the good races and ran well. It ran first up. It was just a pass mark, but it had that big weight. It'll be buried just behind the speed barrier one. Need to get clear at the right time. There's a lot of queries at 1,400 metres this race. Unit 5 is one of them. It's got a wide gate. It has to run the trip. It was good first up. It just won't want too much to go wrong from that barrier. And I can't lose if number 15, Athera, wins. Look, I thought it would win first up. If it got by three lengths, you say it just wasn't good enough. It just couldn't go at all. It's a much better horse than that. We'll give it one more chance if it runs back to its home track. So 12 and 2 mainly, 12, 2, 3, and 15.
Speaker 212, 2, 3, and 15. So a couple of good pushes there for a couple of those horses at a price. Athera might be safe for another day. What would you do? Next week at Caulfield, that would be the day.
Speaker 3From the barrier. Well, it's interesting. I don't know why D-Lane's not riding Something's Burning. You'd think he would have had his choice to get onto that horse. Maybe. I don't know the answer to the question. But he's riding Athera. So whether he just thought it was too bad to be true, whether he thinks it's a better horse, I don't know the answer. Would you run it or not from the barrier? If you're going to run it, you'd ride it quiet, let it finish off. So it's going to need everything to go right.
Speaker 2Diameter? Oh, yeah, sorry.
Speaker 3No, you just need everything to go. Right from the gate.
Speaker 2Where does Diameter get to from that inside draw?
Speaker 3No, it gets crossed. Probably gets crossed and ends up somewhere sixth or seventh inside. So you told me Jason Collett's a very good rider. He'll just need the brakes to come in the straight.

Speaker 2Yes. Harry Lyme, they reckon this horse is up to this class, talking to Adrian Bott there yesterday.
Speaker 3Well. That's a 13 we're talking about. Yeah, if Phillip Island doesn't run, that's less pressure for the lead. Harry Lyme will go forward. And I would imagine would find the top. Now, on a drawing Flemington, trained by Gabe Wardhouse and Adrian Bott, I'm not going to tell you that Harry Lyme can't win. It's a harder race than what it's been meeting. But if it spears the top, stays out of trouble, it's going to give you a good sight.
Speaker 2Lara Antepova, the Kiwi filly.
Speaker 3Like a lot of them, has to run 1,400 metres. No real guide first up. Just got into a really awkward spot with horses laying in on it. Never got a chance to wind up. Has some ground to make up off that run and has to run the distance or go forward and get a good run. You'd think $1,400 would suit big wigs. Well, Big Wigs, right, Big Wigs has been going back and running on really well over shorter trips. It ran well first up. It's got to run the distance. Willow's jumped on. He likes to ride horses forward. He rode Big Wigs forward in a recent trial. I didn't think it went as well as perhaps it should have. Now, I think it might need a quiet-ish ride to run the trip strongly, and I don't know if it'll get it from that gate, so that's a watch.
Speaker 2Just back to this favourite. Do you think your gut feel that it'll be strong at 1,400? Oh, yeah. Or do you think the tempo will allow it? Oh, no, no.
Speaker 3It'll be strong at 1,400. It was the last leg of my multi there at Sandown, so it was a pretty brutal watch, but it was powering through the line.
Speaker 2Judah's tree's got still a lot to learn, but it's got plenty of ability.
Speaker 3Yeah, you're exactly right. It's got a lot of ability. It's got a lot to learn. It totally controlled that race at Sandown, was entitled to kick and win the way that they turned out and did. It draws wide. It's another one that we'd be hoping that Phillip Island comes out. It had stride forward with Harry Lyon. I would imagine a park up outside the lead. It's got a chance. Did we get that on record?
Speaker 2Mark said you're exactly right. That's the first time he's ever said that to me. It's a proud moment.

Speaker 2Let's go to race number three, the Captain Teeps. Now, Mark, you were around when this filly was going around, trained by Bart Cummings. What races did she win?
Speaker 3Well, that's – I'm going to go, Gareth, without knowing if it's going to be a race or not. That's the right answer. I'll go with the new market. And the Lightning.

Speaker 2Overexcited is at $4. The horse named after you. Streisand at $5.50. Now, she hasn't got any blinkers on, but we'll get to that. Santono Glow at $5.50. He's won down the straight before. Johnny O'Shea says she'll get out to more of a trip. He hopes this campaign. Lucky Brook was impressive on Dubu at $8. Calamari Ring defeated Streisand down the straight on Dubu at $8.50. Gin Twist. Benny Hayes was at a function there the other day that I was at. He said – I think Michael Falgate was hosting the function, and he asked Benny, what horse do you like for the spring that we should be following? And you mentioned this, Philly. Riverina Lulu at $13. Scintillation at $13. And then big prices for the rest here.
Speaker 3Yeah, I'm going to go with four chances. 2-1-14 – or 2-1 – yeah, 2-1-14 and 9. I'll start with Santono Glow, who – should be undefeated. Her debut – sorry, her Flemington win down the straight. She rounded up Gin Twist and others. Was on a heavy track at $1,200, but she toyed with them. Went back to the Percy Sykes and – gee, she just had no luck. She had the two trials back. Looks to be going well. The outside three gates here have all got good hopes. Lucky Brook overexcited and Santono Glow. Whereas Streisand's going to be back behind them, needing the gaps to come to get into the race. So I'm going with Santono Glow to park just behind the speed, get a good drag. Have clear air and to win, to beat number one, Streisand, who was, I think, the best two-year-old in the country last year. Won the diamond, should have won the slipper. Comes back.
Speaker 2That's controversial. Well. Guesthouse says hello. Got gassed the whole way. It was an enormous run. Yeah, but Guesthouse beat her in a slipper and was probably a little unlucky in a blue diamond. Okay.
Speaker 3That's right. You've been right once. That's enough. Look, she's trialling. They've taken the blinkers off. They'll smother her. They're behind.
Speaker 2Yes.
Speaker 3She'll just need the brakes at the right time. 14, overexcited. I think it's pretty short in the market. Created a big impression on debut. This is a much harder race, but I like where overexcited's drawn. It's drawn out to follow those horses and nine lucky brook. Terrific debut win in a recent trial was an absolute beauty. It's another one. Three big chances have got clear air out wide and Streisand's the one that's going to be back behind them, needing the luck. So I'll go 2-1, 14-9. So just with your tips then,
Speaker 2they've all drawn wide and you indicated that maybe the inside could be the best place to be down the straight. Um, did you ever think about changing your tips because of the draws?
Speaker 3No, cause I'll go with the speed. Gin Twist has drawn the middle and probably has to lead to win. The inside four gates have all got some pace and there's some other speed. Scintillation and lucky brook out wide. Stars of Dom Form is very much inferior to what it's meeting here. It looked outstanding doing it. Its trials have been great. It's got a good barrier to follow the speed. It will get every possible chance, and I think it's the danger. So one to beat six.

It's your favourite race across all three cards, isn't it? Yeah. Yeah. I love the Phoenix and well done to Ash Baker when he was in charge of the Meadows and Jess Tubbs, I remember.
Speaker 9Yes, yep.
Speaker 2Just during, I think it was during COVID.
Speaker 9It was. Yeah, 2021 was the first. It was the first edition. So plenty of work went into it before then. So you're right.
Speaker 2And well done to Peter Duncan at the time. She was the chair at GRV and also your race club. Yeah.
Speaker 9You're going to give yourself a pat on the back, Jay.
Speaker 2No, not really. But they had the, they had the, they had the courage to go down this path. And I think now it is probably the most talked about race nearly in greyhound racing.
Speaker 9I think it is. And naturally with slot racing, you're always going to get that. You're always going to get the talkability, whether it be the slot holders, whether it be who they're selecting, whether it be the actual dogs in the race, it's, there's always different storylines. And I think as, as racing codes, regardless of whether you're horses or dogs, you're always looking for storylines and something like this definitely provides.
Speaker 2What about turnover? Like is the Melbourne Cup still the number one turnover race?
Speaker 9Yeah, it's, it's right up there. Melbourne Cup and the Phoenix Top Gun was, was really well performed last year. So you're always having, you always want to have these aspirational races that are worth plenty of money that everyone's talking about because they're the ones that are wagered on the most.
Speaker 2Was it difficult to select the eight slot holders this year?
Speaker 9Luckily, I'm not on the panel to, to select it. We have an independent panel just to remove any biases, but that was, to be honest, it was unprecedented in terms of how many applications there were and how much interest there was from people, whether that be businesses, whether it be corporates, whether it be individuals, there was, there was a great mix and that's what the panel wanted.
Speaker 2I tell everyone that there's a lot of terrific slot races going around, but if someone said to me, Gareth, you could go in one slot race, the Everest, I'd go on the Everest because if you get your $700,000 back, yeah, if you run last. So, you know, that would probably be the number one slot race I would go into if I had the opportunity. But the second one would be the Phoenix because there's $1 million to the winner. Yep. It's a $100,000 buy-in. Yep. And the best part about the greyhound industry is that you can probably do better deals compared to the other coats and there's enough money on top here to obviously do a deal with a greyhound that's a serious chance. So I reckon most of these deals, like some would want 50-50, but 30-70 is still a great offer on the table for these greyhounds or the owners and the trainers involved because you get $300,000 for winning still.
Speaker 9In all reality, if you want to take the $300,000, it's still in probably the top 10 of biggest earnings you can take in a single night. And if you're not in the Phoenix that night, you're running for probably $7,000 elsewhere. So it's one of those things that the slot holders... You can't really knock it back. No, you can't. The slot holders have the power. It's fair to say. But at the same time, when you've got a rocket ship of a dog, it's pretty hard to get involved. And this is probably one of those easy ways to get in touch with people and have a bit of fun.
Speaker 2But then you can take a punt, really. Say if you miss out on wrongly accused and he draws eight, then all of a sudden it's game on, isn't it?
Speaker 9It is. Yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 2And then you've got to pick your own boxes as well.
Speaker 9Yeah, I think that's the most exciting part about the Phoenix is the box draw, which you've been to plenty of times as well. Gareth is six days out and the way that it works, is you get drawn out of the boxes, the barrels, and that person goes and gets to select their box. So we've never seen box one not get taken first. But after that, it could be here, there and everywhere.
Speaker 2And there's been some... And I think they're getting better now. But there's been some mistakes that have been made early on in the Phoenix history. So, yeah, let's get stuck into who are the slot holders. Now, I'm a little bit nervous because we did put in an application and geez, it'd be hard to take. It'd leave us out, to tell you the truth.
Speaker 9Yeah, well, I don't think I'd be here. I wouldn't be showing my face. I'd have to have more front than minds.
Speaker 2Show a lot of balls if you didn't put us in the top eight and you still rocked up and you wanted to announce it on this show.

Joining forces, which we've seen on the racetrack a bit, and we're going to see it in the Phoenix as slot holders as well. It's a powerful combination. It doesn't get much more powerful than Greyhound Racing. Second one up is the reigning champs, DB Constructions, who went absolutely ham on course last year.

But you would want to be back and wide and swooping. That's for sure.

Apocalyptic gets a really good draw here this time, and I'm willing to forgive. I thought she is clearly the horse you want to forgive for that meeting there, 21 days between runs. I think she's flying, and I'm trusting that SP. I'm trusting that she's going well. She gets a perfect setup here. You could probably also, I wouldn't knock you if you had a bet on Gangsta Granny. Obviously, you want to trust that she's going to jump, and she's going to put herself into the run. But a high-pressure 1,200-meter race, Apocalyptic's going to sit there, probably lead us back. Worst case, three pairs back the fence and be really, really strong late, Dino.
Speaker 10Yeah, the map's key, like you mentioned. 1,200 should start. Rails and Run, a big advantage. I don't even know if Lady Shenandoah will go around in this race. Drawn 10, going to get a long way back, you dare say. Do watch that, but I think she's gross under this event. I'm with Weeping Woman. I think the new form on the scene. I love both trials. Love the map here. Finds the rails and finds the lead. I think Timmy Clark won't let him go along too quick. I think he can control the race with Weeping Woman. I think the Dangerous Gangsta Granny, your reference SP, is going to own this. Mayor, SP, $3.60 last start on the Missile. Stakes there behind Ninja, I think it was. Obviously, pulled up with an issue or something was wrong there. Back to trials look good. Should find leaders back. I think that's the danger at a big price. And Apocalyptic, you won't read it in your form, Guy, but I'm the number one fan and I'm jumping off on Saturday, Benny. So, that might add some lengths to her chances.
Speaker 12You'll have the army coming down for you, mate. All the thousand of them. I'm with Weeping Woman. I think she gets a lovely map here. I've loved her trials leading into this. $4.20 is a great price. So, I'm with her. I also love that. Gets him with $55. I did take a little bit of the $8 Lady Shenandoah. But yeah, with the rail out 1,200 metres, I just don't know that it's set up either. Like, Benny touched on it last week. She's got identity issue leading Shenandoah. 14 back to 12 just doesn't seem right. And then gate 10, I can just see him. I think there's a race next week, 1,400 metre contest, trying to think what it's called.

Speaker 10Yeah, what price will Manal be in this race, though? She beat Manal 1.3 legs in group three over 1,200 metres on a firm Rammick last start. I know Manal would be right in the market in this. I know. Yeah. I'm just looking at Hedley Grange as well, who we thought last week probably wasn't up to him, but Joe Pride's bringing these sprinters along pretty, pretty well.
Speaker 2All right, then. Let's get stuck into the feature, the run to the rose here. St. Gothard, is he an easy or affirming favourite here with bet 3.65, Zachy Boy?
Speaker 11He's come in just a touch. I think we were up 2.80. It's now 2.60. The one that they had a big crack at is Under Focus. That was a big tip line bet. I think might get out a bit. And they're like a bit of Central Europe too, but it's just the top three.
Speaker 2Gannon?
Speaker 13Yeah, I'd expect some goth art to continue to drift. Put up a short, ridiculous price earlier. I'd imagine he'll start close to $3. Understand the move found a focus, a clear horse that will improve here, better draw, can land closer. Speed map-wise, plagiarism, revengeance, you'd imagine they'll roll forward. Music Time's come out. Is that right? Am I missing something? Or is it just coming out? Scratched. So that's interesting. That's a big change up to the speed map there because I think Music Time is going to be a key speed influence from out wide. It allows War Woven to be more positive now, and you've either got options with St. Gothard. Do they end up going back to the rails and end up being leaders back? If so, he'll be advantaged. You're to Central Europe landing that leaders back role. I think Zach will – it'll be interesting to see what Zach does, whether he hands up that position to J-Mac. But either way, I'm with Central Europe. I think the price is the key to this galloper here, getting around that $6 mark. He was really good there. He does need to learn to settle. And I think Music Time coming out is a slight disadvantage to Central Europe, but I'm on top with him. I just think St. Gothard's the wrong price. He should be closer to sort of $4. Dino, he's been marked up heavily on what he's done, and he could have come back a better horse. But gee whiz, they factored it in.
Speaker 10Yeah, they have. I think your reference is two wins. Yes, they've been solid. But I just referenced their last start win, full lengths. I think you look at that and go, wow. But you look at what he's beaten, and I don't think he's beaten a whole lot. You look at the form around underfoot. Focus comes through kindergarten, form around blue door and co. The next episode, Central Europe has form around wall woven and a couple of others. So I'm in agreeance with you. I'm going to have a really strong two-bet play here, Central Europe and under Focus. I think both will find the rails in running. The key with Central Europe and James Gano, Zach Lloyd is a jockey who likes to find the rails in the coffin, where James is very much so a one-one jockey. You don't often see James find the rails or lead us back. He very much likes to find the rails. He likes to be in the one-ones. I think that will decide for the map. And I think under Focus and Central Europe get the right lead up. Race fitness edge, both find the rails. I think that's the key to Saturday, Benny. So strong bet for me, Central Europe and under Focus, best of the day.
Speaker 12Sounds like I'm on my own here because Saint Goddard is my best of the day in Sydney. Look, I just think he's this, I reckon he is the new cool more horse for me. I was on the next episode. He's been trolling brilliantly coming into this. He's two from two, gets a beautiful map. And then as soon as I saw J-Mac accept on him, I just thought he's going to land in the one-one. I know the others have the run under the belt over him, but horse like Central Europe, I don't love that he's still over racing in the first half of his races. And Saint Goddard is the best for me.
Speaker 2He won't be over racing surely Central Europe when plagiarism is just going to put his foot down throughout. A war woven will go forward. It's interesting that, so basically Dino, if I was listening to you correctly, you basically said that Central Europe's got an upgrade now when it comes to the jockeys.

Speaker 11It is Skyhook, and it has had significant backing just overnight. They took 320 into about 260 now. The other one I'll mention is NCAP. We took a lot of bets at $31 into 11. But the majority of the money is Skyhook.

Speaker 13I couldn't believe the price they put up. But then you go to hit confirm and you think to yourself, like, why would you do that? It just hates me. Skyhook, Midnight in Tokyo, sandpaper, magnateer. You all have speed. Uh-huh, uh-huh. Gets a nice run. And NCAP gets a pretty good run as well. The only play for me in this race, I'll keep it short but sweet, was NCAP, the place, Gareth. Doesn't like winning races. But if you reference what he's been doing, he's going around in group run races earlier. He ran, what, six feet and not too far behind Headley Grange, Shenandoah, Bayvox, Jolly Star, first up last preparation. 53 and a half kilos here. The place bets are really easy bet to have, Dino.
Speaker 10Yeah, he's a terrific top four horse, you'd say. NCAP doesn't win. But he runs top four a lot of the time. Good to see militarized 20s into 13s as well. So his supporters are out. But gee, and boys, I think there's a good two-bet play again in this race. Skyhook's come back a different horse. I wasn't with him last preparation, but his last three runs were outstanding. His trials have been super. You look at Gate 13, you get worried. But you look at the speed map and there's no speed at all. That's going to force Kieran's hand. And we saw when Kieran goes forward like he did on Bangkok Hottie last week, it's a positive move. So I think that horse rolls forward and goes very, very close. And the savers, Verona Rose, I don't think this is the right setup first up. But she's trolling the house down as well. And I'd hate to see her win without my money on. So Skyhook and Verona Rose, two-bet play, Benny. Yep.
Speaker 12All I wanted to hear from the boys was that Skyhook can come across from that wide alley and find a decent enough spot to be backing him. He's the one for me. His rating's adjusted to that way. He'll look very, very good for this race. Sam Pape will get a nice run. He'll be there for a long way. But yeah, he might be looking for a little bit further.

I think she's pretty much a good thing. She's an alibi. She'll probably be three back, one off the fence. Now drawing barrier five after a few scratchings. Her turn of foot's too good. She's had the run under the belt. And if you plug Autumn Glow into this race, I think she's $1.30.
Speaker 2The key to all of us here with our top four multi, Mickey Gatton, is whether Ethan Brown can get Light Infiltration Man to jump. And if he jumps from gate one, I don't think he'd want to hold, I don't think he'd want to hand up the lead to a Mr. Brightside. The last thing he wants, as Mark Hunter pointed out, is Mr. Brightside going 12 seconds of furlong when he can't sprint. So I think that will be nearly the key to the race in the early part anyway.
Speaker 13Yeah, you'd imagine that Blake Sheen sort of just goes across and Ethan goes with him and then after two, three hundred metres, just goes straight to the front. And that could allow Mr. Brightside, Blake Sheen just to pop off. Do you imagine, where do you have treasure at the moment, gents? So leaders back and then Sir Delius 1-1. Is that what we're thinking, speed map-wise?
Speaker 12Well, treasure at the moment, we're hearing, is on a Caulfield cut path. So I've got her a pair further back than most of us. Well, she's just a terrific gate speed.

Speaker 2Sir Delius could be in trouble if he's slow away because treasure at the moment gets in front of him. And then Lane lets, say, Light Infiltration Man off the fence because Brown doesn't want to be leaders back. And that means he could be three wide.

I thought the trials or the jump outs were solid enough, but maybe that's why they're throwing the blinkers on, just to sharpen this horse up. But I think they're the only two that can win the race, and Gold Coast Bell on top for me.

And then in the boys' race, the Poseidon Stakes G. Had a good bet in Boubet. I think this horse is jumping out like a smart. I'm scared of Paradoxium. I might save on him. But I think them two are clearly the picks. Happy to take on Big Sky and Hard Kick.

Waller down the straight will probably see the best version of him here. And it's a right price to find out. Different form lines as well.

Speaker 11One that Dino just mentioned there, Paradoxium, has been. Obviously, I heard Bjorn give a good push. There's one really early in the day. That's Naval Academy. I think it's about 250 now. And that race one, that's that if you opt in, you just get a bonus bet back if your horse loses. So if you're back Naval Academy and it wins, happy days. If it loses, you get your stake back in bonus bets. You just got to opt in. And there was one in race five that they like, as well. They've gone away from Nyarko Frode, and they like Litsteel.
Speaker 2Yeah, Nyarko Frode will start second or third favorite, I reckon.

Would you say comparing the last 600 metre sectionals over the same distance and track conditions? That's from Marcus. You can all have a go at this question, Benny. What's it for the mug punters regarding what is the most important variable that you take into consideration?
Speaker 12The most important variable for me is probably form, map, and then jockeys, probably third.

Speaker 13And, and the short way of doing that for the punters out there, look at the market and look at your speed maps and then look, the market's going to be a pretty good guide and then you can get, you can go from there.

Speaker 12And just off his, what he said about the last 600, last 600 metre times are very reliant on lead speeds as well. So if it's a slow lead speed, they're obviously going to run home quicker.

Speaker 2i know that they say this every year but this ready to run sale is getting bigger and better each year and talking to the bloodstock agents and a few people that would know better than i jess it is one hell of a catalog this year what are you hearing yeah look it's it's always exciting
Speaker 15getting those first impressions and uh we actually the catalogs actually landed a few days before we went live on the website so that was unexpected but uh we're going to talk a little bit more about that in just a moment we already started getting a bit of feedback everyone felt like a vip um and the commentary is that it's just packed with back type it's it's absolutely water wall quality uh horses and um that's uh i think a mark of the the knowledge of the the vendors those consignors they choose these horses select them for the sale very deliberately they know the sort of page that these buyers are looking for and then they educate them to the standard that we're all familiar with where they breeze beautifully and um go on and do great things on the track yeah i think it's
Speaker 2like you've got a difficult job i'm not trying to take that away from you jess but it's probably an easy sale to market when you have a look at the horses that have been sold from this sale char wolf mr brightside um gringotts they've all won close to well mr brightside's won 14 million char wolf gringotts has won eight million lucky swayness golden 60 one of the great horses hong kong's ever seen and tino foroach war machine warmer uh warmonger which was a classic winner so i think it's really important to think about that and i think it's really important to think about that and i think it's really important to think about the the stars that have come out of this
Speaker 15sale are some of the very best best gallopers that we've seen for a while yeah for sure it is a walk in the park for me i think i'm very spoiled uh promoting this sale because it does my job for me every spring i come on and i'm like oh look here we go again we've got another great one winner this is our catalog this year actually i've got in front of me yes our catalog is he's got an invincible ibis uh so hong kong derby winner on the cover um so poor old mr b and chair wolf were
Speaker 2front cover jesus stiff i reckon aren't they mr bean char wolf but i invincible ibis especially with all the um your asian clients i guess that they will be seeing that and they'll be heading um to new zealand once again because it is a very popular market amongst your asian clients
Speaker 15yeah and look it is uh hong kong asia traditionally have been the biggest buyers at the ready to run sale but i tell you what australia is hot on the heels our last year australians uh were up bigger than ever and stronger than ever it was a sensational buying bench for this two-year-old sale and i think that's a reflection of of the impatience maybe of buyers uh and also acknowledgement of the qualities but people just want to they want to get a horse they want to see how it moves at the gallop and then you know hit the racetrack and and get some results and and the sale delivers that um just time and again i think we've had 33 group one wins in the last five seasons and 115 stakes wins in the last five seasons and the last five seasons and that time i think last season was it 26 uh stakes wins so it's just a it's a it's a high impact sale you come out here you get the horse you get the wins it delivers and so uh it kind of it creates a bit of a market for itself that demand fuels these consignors they go and select a higher quality horse um bring it to the sale and and once again um you know we we go for another round and see those similar results so it's a really satisfying market and uh and while hong kong is strong and you know they've got their boy on the cover you can't overlook the likes of gringotts uh mr b all the others that are doing the job in australia too i think when
Speaker 2we first started to go to new zealand for the ready to run i remember talking to andrew seabrook can you make a good point i think the world is changing and people want um to buy a horse and have a horse ready to go within six or so months and the ready to run sale usually can allow you to do that and you see a lot of the vendors now changing the way that they go about their business like book ones at nzb would be the sale that they want to be at but now you can get a really good price at a ready to run sale if you can do it all right um so yeah it'll be interesting to see what the stats look like in two or three years time i reckon regarding yeah yeah it's a
Speaker 15growing market actually angle would start that's that's gus wiggly down in canterbury he is dipping his toe on this market for the first time he's bringing to only two but two good horses that would be book one horses and he's bringing them for this market floating them all the way up to terrapa for breeze ups floating them back down to canterbury in the south island bring them back up for the sale but that's because it's worth their attention they know that um a two-year-old prospector might buy that horse of the yearling bring it on and make a lot of money with this two-year-old market and so they're um we're seeing a bit of a shift in who actually is playing in this market and uh i think that makes it more exciting for buyers as well so the breeze ups are on the 12th

Speaker 16obviously with uh with harry and the the coffee family um very much involved in the cystic fibrosis community and well done to yourself uh on the interview on wednesday with troy cawson's and carol mcgoy that was that was a cracker with uh with harry and um yeah we we get together on sunday to raise a heap of money and awareness and the cystic fibrosis community comes together to celebrate at albert park uh the palm lawns on sunday morning from nine o'clock onwards so you'll you'll be there yes yes nine o'clock nine o'clock on on the dot yeah the 5k walk starts at 10 but uh it'll be great to see a lot of the the racing victoria community and and racing participants um get around harry and his family for for what is such an important cause and um harry's team he's obviously the face of the event and if you if you are keen to head on down join up with uh team coffee and team country racing victoria at the moment we've raised about 15 grand and we're we're trying to boost that up to to 20 uh by by the time sunday has been run and won and um yeah it's a terrific event like there'll be a heap of activities involved and you just go for a walk around the lovely albert park and um yeah it's a it's a wonderful morning to to get involved and raise some money for what's such a brilliant cause so i think

No, absolutely. Paddy Payne Senior. Paddy Payne Senior. Valet to Paddy Senior. And we send our condolences to the Payne family. And, you know, what a contribution they've made across Victoria over, you know, a huge number of years. Now, Paddy Senior raised 10 kids all by himself after his wife tragically passed away. But eight of the 10 kids went on to become jockeys. And, I mean, their name is synonymous in, you know, cross racing in Victoria. But especially in Ballarat, where they grew up. And so the Ballarat community are feeling it after Paddy's passing on throughout the week. Yeah.
Speaker 2Well said, Josh. Now, there is plenty happening in country racing in Victoria. But it's really going. It's going to be a hot up in about a couple of weeks' time.
Speaker 16Certainly is. Two weeks. Two weeks to go. The countdown's on until the first of the Country Cup. So we launch our Country Cup season on the grand final public holiday, the day before the grand final, of course, on Friday, the 25th of September. The Coal Rain Racing Club, they kick things off with the Coal Rain Cup on the Friday in two weeks' time. The first of 26 Country Cups over the next three months. It's the best time of the year. There's no doubt. There's no doubt about it. And, you know, if you are looking for something to do over the spring carnival, yes, the Metro races are brilliant and wonderful. But get behind these local communities as well. You know, have a weekend away. It's just so much fun. And the economic impacts of everyone attending these country race meetings and the Country Cups in particular are so far, far ranging. We've heard the Racing Victoria team and Aaron in particular talk about the economic impact. We've heard the Racing Victoria team and Aaron in particular talk about the economic impact that racing has on the state, more than $5.5 billion annually. And the Country Cups are essential to that. You know, it might be filling up your car with petrol and stopping at the bakery on the way and, you know, dropping in for a counter meal for tea at the local pub after the races. It's just so important. And the local communities just love having people come from far and wide to support their Country Cup. And there's going to be 26 brilliant Country Cups over the next three months. And there's going to be 26 brilliant Country Cups over the next three months. Across all corners of the state. Manangatang this time in a month's time. I know, Gareth, some of your mates... I've got to get there, yeah. Well, absolutely. I reckon you might have even mentioned that they've found their... Two fresh runs to date have been very good. I know it reads duck eggs, but the first one, he was within two lengths of Point Barrow on debut. That's very, very good form. And last time, just over a length from the winner at Sandown in a good maiden where horses all around him came out and won next start. Her, sorry. So she draws for the right run here. And I like the market move for her this morning. I think she's been about $8.50 into $6. So if we can hold that price, I think we can play at that race. Seven, number eight. Perfect night.

His nose nearly hit the turf just after jumping. And then he was stopped in his tracks when he was building into the race. Now, he wasn't going to win there. But he should have finished much, much closer. The stable's going very, very well. And I think we'll see sharp improvement out to a mile here. Just needs luck from a tricky gate. But up in trip, I do like it. Race one, number three, Phil Harmonic at Royal Donald.

Speaker 17Yep. Sale race four, number two, Trouble in Paradise. I think this is the each-way play of the weekend. First up since May. Jumped out three times this time. And I really, really like the way he rounded off his latest at Pakenham. Under no riding at all. Arguably unlucky not to have won his first two in his debut campaign. I think at Donald and Ararat they were. And at around $11 or $12, I think we can play each way. Race four, number two, Trouble in Paradise.

Speaker 18Yeah, a couple of nice meetings out of New Zealand tomorrow. Hastings, of course, with the listed Sir Colin Meads. And then we've got the Canterbury Bell Stakes at Rickerton, which also holds black type. So this will be a great day. Three-year-olds really on show. And we tend to get that this time of year in New Zealand when we're building towards the 1,000 and 2,000 guineas. But I'm concentrating on Hastings tomorrow. My three bets come out of that venue. They will probably be running on a rain-affected track. I was hoping it would come back a little bit, but it's come up a heavy 10 this morning. Race two is where I'm starting with horse two in the zero. He was a galloper who has trialled up really smartly ahead of this. Went round at Foxton. In July and was really well held to win the trial. And the team have kept him really fresh. We haven't seen him out again publicly leading into this, but I thought it was a really good first campaign from him. He won on debut. He stepped up to open three-year-old company and he was runner up. And then he took on Bell Chevelle at stakes level and only finished five links from her. And she's gone on and won a binary. So I think it's pretty good form for this. Two, four, seven and five in race two is my first bet.
Speaker 2So race two, number two, your second bet there, Jane.
Speaker 18You're going straight to race two. Straight to the stakes race, the listed Sir Colin Mead over the 1,200 metres. And it's a colt out of the Tiakao barn who returns to the races that I'm with. Runner number three in systems of play. He won on debut as a two-year-old and then the team put him aside straight away. And he returns on Saturday at stakes level for just a second race day start. His trial was OK. It was pretty quiet. He finished into third. But I think the key with him is the race that he won on debut has just proved a very very good form race in New Zealand. The filly that finished second to him, Perfect Chaos, come out and won the listed Whanganui Guineas first up this preparation. We've seen two other individual winners come out of the race and another horse that's been stakes placed. So it just looks like the superior form here. So system of play is my bet in the listed Sir Colin Mead stakes. And then I think one of the races of the afternoon at Hastings.

Speaker 18Race eight, which is the Open 1200. And I think it's probably one of the races on the program at Hastings on Saturday. I'm with a mare called Afternoon Sester. She's locally trained out of the John Becker. She's very stable. And she's a mare that's won four from seven. She's never finished out of the top three. She flew through the grades over the summertime winning at group three level and then placing behind. She's a dealer at a mile at group one level. She trawled at Taupo the other day and finished second in behind a horse called Drops of God, who I think is a group one winner in the making. And she travelled pretty sweetly in behind her. She's never raced over the 1200 metres. She is unbeaten fresh up. But it's been over the 1400 metres, not the 12. But I think her trawl sort of proved she was sharp enough for the 12 at the weekend. So I like her. I think she is a really nice mare who will continue to race at the top level in New Zealand. And Navigator is probably the danger here. He's got a really good fresh up record as well. He's a sprinting specialist and he finished second in the group one tab telegraph fresh up last year. So that was in behind New Zealand Sprinter of the Year in first five. So Navigator is certainly the horse to beat. But I think Afternoon Sester is well worth having a look at at Hawke's Bay.
Speaker 2So at 480, around that anyway with Bet365. So those are your specials there at Hastings. You're concentrating on that meeting. Have you got anything at Rickerton?
Speaker 18Oh, look, the Canterbury Bell Stakes for the fillies at Rickerton. And it's a nice field. There's a filly returning again for Tiaka Racing called The Sweetest Thing. And she was group one place. As a two-year-old when she was trained by Royden Burgess. And he's put her in the care of his son, Sam, at Tiaka. So she's having her first start for the stable. And by all accounts, she's worked up really well leading into this. And her trial's been really nice. But Terry Ray's also got a runner in a little bit earlier. I can't remember the race number, but a horse called Mad Max, who was previously with Andrew Forsman. The market really came for it fresh up. They thought that it would win in her stable having its first start. He was just nabbed on the line. But I think fitter, he can probably win one of the earlier races at Rickerton as well.
Speaker 2Yeah. Race two, number one, Mad Max at 3.10. Lara Antepova, do we give her another chance at Flemington on Saturday? The star Kiwi juvenile now at Cranbourne with Tiaka.
Speaker 18Yeah, she was very good in New Zealand as a two-year-old. Of course, unbeaten. But we all know that the form is much stronger when you step up here in Australia. I actually saw her at Mornington last week having an exhibition gallop with a stable mate. And she's... She's done really well in between preparations. She's grown. She's strengthened. She's looking like a really nice athletic filly now. And I thought her work looked really good at Mornington. But she does have to make another step up. I think she's worth giving another chance. But this is probably it for her. She needs to make a statement at the weekend.

Speaker 19Yeah, only small fields, Gareth. But I can see two or three that are hard to beat. So starting in the first race, one number one, throw at the stumps. He's the winner of 13 races. And he's back to a zero to 58 here. Yeah, his most recent form hasn't been that flash. But he has been racing in stronger company, including a second on Jumping Power 2 during the recent Darwin Cup Carnival. I thought back in this grade. He'd take plenty of beating in what doesn't appear a strong lot. So race one, number one, throw at the stumps. Go to race four. He's short, but he'll be winning number one, Golden Tunes. He's had two starts in Alice. He's won them both by big margins. And I just can't see him having his colors lowered here. Race four, number one. One for your multiples or your all-ups. And in the last, I like the just-turned-four-year-old Laws Wars. Had three starts in Darwin pre-Carnival for a win, a second and a third. The placings will be. Behind some pretty handy gallopers in Rivers of Babylon and Garrix, who were placed in three-year-old features during the Carnival. He hasn't had a run for a couple of months, but I think he'd be too good for this lot. Race five, number one, Laws Wars.

Speaker 20Yeah, that would be my starting point, which is a little bit of a frustration for my, uh, one potential bet on the day. But, uh, look, we'll just see how things unfold. I look, typically this rail position, the last few meetings has played very even, but I'm with, Terry, we're getting towards the end of the season, so we're starting to see a few of these races play a little bit one-paced.
Speaker 2Let's have a look at the feature in the Coppola Stakes over the 1,200 metres, which is race seven at Belmont tomorrow. Just having a look at the market here, we've bet $3.65 for this feature. You've got Snowdome at $3.00, Rissoles at $3.40, Haida Gwaii at $5.00, Fast Flicker at $6.50, Jack, Ginevan, $11.00, and Triple J at $19.00. Silver Eye at $23.00. Ah, are you betting? I'm betting into this race here, Terry.
Speaker 21Absolutely, I'm betting into this race. I, uh, I've actually spoke to Pete about this one pre, so we won't, we won't, uh, feign surprise when we both tip the same horse here. But, um, I'm super keen on Rissoles. Uh, I think it's your best bet in the card, to be honest with you. Gareth, uh, there's heaps of speed on here, and I know you just said you want to be, um, I know I just said you want to be on speed, but there's also races where speed maps allow you to make a little bit of ground. And, and this is one of those races, there's about four or five litres. Snowdome. This is your obvious set weights and penalties horse, and I, I completely get that, um, but I don't think Rissoles is going to be too far from Snowdome in the run with the way this is going to be, um, with the way this is going to be shaped. And Rissoles' effort over the 1,000 was, was super fresh, so you put her up to the 1,200 metres, you put the speed on, you put William Pike on top, Rissoles has to be favoured for me. I, I was happy betting north of $3.00 with Snowdome. I knew we were always going to see well above that, but, um, yeah, pretty keen to make Rissoles a, a fair result, and I think the big fella's with me.
Speaker 20Yeah, absolutely. I can't relate to that. add anything more to this gareth look i'm looking at the price of snow dome and i'm just trying to work out in what world he gets a suitable speed map here unless they just all think there's so much speed in this race that they just all hand up immediately but is he going to have enough gate speed to cross kelvinator um he's got horses out wide like guinevan like haida guai he's got sky duke on the inside he's also got fast flicker who will probably try and just hold up a position early so they're going to have to do some work early on snow dome and the price just looks well and truly too short rissole's big flashing light there first up we have to remember she won first up last prep g but that was off a trial and that first up run was for all intents and purposes a trial i think this is well and truly the best bet on the day in fact it's my only bet on the day because a lot of these races i've just gone through and found the market and very close to the market but this one i clearly got a difference with the market so rissole's best of the day for

Speaker 21bets uh well that is my main play for the day in race number four i would far prefer this horse was over the mile cosmic waltz is flying but um i just couldn't mark a second favorite so when you mark anything to beat a horse that you know he's going super you're always going to find it pretty short and we're getting north of three dollars so again um basically my day if i can back cosmic waltz and rissole's if one of them win i at least will finish square on the day that's sort of how i'm attacking proceedings but the former round chinkway stella the former round silent diva who should have probably won last week um it's just really just better than the streaker god's your second favorite back to 1400 i don't think suits and i think it's a very good horse anyway uh margusa can't lift its legs i respect its ceiling and i respect the fact simon miller had a treble midweek um his stable might be starting to tick again um but i just couldn't mark a second favorite so if mcgrady can find the breeze outside allentown or if a few under him kick up and he has to land maybe in fifth one off i think he wins from either spot so pretty keen on cosmic waltz from there gareth um i bet i wasn't planning to have but in race number three arcadia knight coming up at three dollars fifty plus now across uh across the agencies is going to be a good race to get me as well um the trial was super beating home opportunistic who obviously came out and won a uh cool guardy cup last sunday won it really well beating the jester's son um arcadia knight won that trial with jefferson sang aboard um a lot of these horses are towards the end of their preps well arcadia knights probably um the fresher horse who's probably they've probably got some type of hopes of grabbing something low level over the summer carnival maybe with arcadia knights so um i'm just surprised at the price i thought we'd always be sort of 240 and i wouldn't be interested but that's of a price we can have something on and in that same race gareth there's a horse last time i took this at one at 20 to one speed dream was about a year or two ago um the old leg the old legs might not have that much left in it but it is an incredible record this horse he's three from six when he's off seven or eight days and then he's something like three from 50 or 60 um when he's not off seven or eight days so um and he's his efforts off seven or eight days a while he beat home correct choice he's second to love and war he is awesome boy he last time he was off seven days he won it 100 to one so um we're not going to get 100 to one this time we should see 20 30 plus i reckon he's not going to be supported but look i don't know if the old legs have one more win in them but i can't be losing when he's at that price off the quick spin so something small speed dream same race if it wins we'll be rolling

Speaker 20just a battler pistol can i throw out a little bit of devil's advocate for this horse chantal was backed into favoritism versus olaf the snowman last time out and now gets what i think is a positive jockey change with holly watson jumping on if this track is playing on pace like it will be we're assuming it will be i think chantal's too big a price the gap between them is far too great i know all of the smoke snowman i was on last time out so i'm not knocking the horse at all but he still does a few things wrong especially early in his races and there has to be a chance that chantal finds the front here way too easily and just goes along goes through the gears and proves hard to catch and i think the form around chantal is actually better than the market's giving it credit for so if i needed to play in that race and i'm still might to be honest i still might have something on chantal at the price who does mitchell pateman

Speaker 22wiley handicap there on saturday yeah it's a small but select field obviously only for nine runners and a bit of quality there but i tend to agree with you regarding uh smooth But, you know, when you look through his form, that Quokka run, and then his two subsequent runs in really good races there in Perth were full of merit. I think he certainly used his class. Sure, he's got to carry a bit of weight first up here over 1,100, but his trial was good. And, yeah, they want to get him to some good races over there in Melbourne, and I think he'd be very hard to beat.
Speaker 2They backed him in the Quokka against a far better field than this, and he missed the kick. And he wasn't disgraced. Yeah, Austin Gallardi rides here. I know he's got to carry 62, but he just loves to get out and run. And, yeah, $4, like I think he's better than the Philly Bassett babe, surely.
Speaker 22Yeah, she's obviously an exciting Philly coming through the grades, but she has to really step up in a race like this. And, yeah, I sort of, when we were talking on the Frontrunner podcast yesterday about it, I sort of had that feeling we might be kicking ourselves if we let him go around at $4 and don't have something on afterwards. It could be one of them situations where he does really show his class. And, yeah, $4 might look like a gift.
Speaker 2Yeah, what are you backing there tomorrow, mate, before we let you go?
Speaker 22Yeah, a couple I like. The main one I like early on is Boyd in the opening race, race one number three for Stephen Theodore. We know Theo really likes this horse. He won his first two races for him at Swan Hill and Ballarat on the synthetic, and then he'd come home and just forget he went around in that Morphaville race on a very, very wet track. He was bogged down near the inside, and there was a total forgive. He makes no secret that this horse gallops as well up the Murray Bridge Hill as anything, and I think he'd be very hard to beat, race one. Number three, Boyd. What else do you like? And then the other one for me, yeah, sorry, mate, a bit of value later in the day for Will Clark and Charlotte Sorby. I thought Talisay was probably ready to win race eight, number 16. This is a filly that you would have seen over there in Melbourne as a three-year-old. She ran really well through the Victorian Oaks, and that was when she was with Byron Cosmanis. She's now joined Clark and Stable, and two runs have been good. She was really good first up behind Jacks on Ice, and then last start was well beaten, but was behind a horse that's in red-hot form in fast tempo, so I think that's the right sort of form that now that she gets out to 1,800 at an each-way price, I'm happy to be with Talisay in race eight, number 16.

That Western Australian visitor, mate, but I just think Signature Scent, if you forget that last start heavy run failure, the form prior to that is terrific. Like, first start, three starts ago, you know, that's outstanding form, and also just remember back in the autumn, it produced some of its better ratings when it came over to South Australia, Gareth, so I just think last time I looked, I think Bet365 were about $9. I just think that's an each-way play to nothing, so really intriguing little race, but I'm with number six, Signature Scent.
Speaker 2So, Signature Scent, we're getting, what, $9 with Bet365. So, recommendation, the stable, mate, at $6.50. Smooth Chino, $3.60 now with Bet365. Bassett Babe, $4.80. Watch Me Win at $6.00. We tipped the horse at about $7, came into $3 something. Just had zero luck, total forgive run. Second up form, hasn't missed a place. And most importantly, strong barrier too, mate. So, this is your map horse. Again, I think we're getting about $6. So, I think we can start off the day with a nice each-way play with perfect line. Perfect. Now, G, race. Yeah, sorry.
Speaker 2I said that's perfect. Next one, please. Yeah.
Speaker 24Now, we're going to go to race two, best bet of the day, number four, Money Honey. On its debut run, it was runner-up to Bugsy. Now, I've got that horse running a really good race tomorrow at Flemington. Now, it then resumed with a really comfortable win at Cassiton. So, obviously, it's come back in fine fashion. This isn't a strong race. On my map, I have it stalking the leader. Todd Pannell. I think this is a good bet at $2.25 or better.

Speaker 24Yeah, mate. Let's go to race four. We're having a throw of the stumps at race four, number two over Yonder. Now, this horse is resuming. It's proven. It's more than proven against horses in these. It does race well fresh. Awkwardly drawn, yes, but I think it can get cover just off a solid tempo. Handles a sting out of the ground. Last I looked, I think we were getting like $16. So, I've actually got it rated $5, Gareth. So, race four, number two over Yonder, an outstanding each-way play.
Speaker 2So, race one, number three, Boyd and Talisay there for Lincoln Moor. And then you've got race one, number two, perfect line. Your best is race two, number four, Money Honey. You're like over Yonder at a price race four, number two. And in the features, signature. Set in the Wiley Handicap, race seven, number six. Anything out wide before we say goodbye, Heath?
Speaker 24Oh, Gareth, I've got to mention one in the run to the Rose. I have got a really big opinion of number 13, Castillo King. I'm not sure whether tomorrow will be the day, but when I last looked at 365 in futures markets for the Golden Rose, had it $26. I think that is a great play as a futures bet. And just hope it draws a better gate in the Golden Rose. But I still think it will run a really, really good race tomorrow. And I think there will be no $26 available.

Speaker 25Yeah, cheers, Gareth. That was some good results. And it sounds like a few of the listeners got on. I think unbridled storm was $7.50 until about $3.80. And Modella, I think, was $4.40 in the morning when we spoke. And she came into about $2.90 and won. And then Lindemann did what he does and lit all the way again in that race. Didn't quite get the $12 we got last year, but $2.90 was still a pretty reasonable price. So, yeah, it was nice. Unfortunately, we couldn't get four from four with natural fling not quite getting there. But anyway, we won't complain too much.
Speaker 2You've got some races that we're going to go through and have a look now. On a Saturday afternoon at Rose Hill, we'll start off with the Scirocco Stakes. Now, this is an interesting race. Lazura's around $3.20. We bet $3.65. Weeping Woman, $4.20. Lady Shenandoah, $5.50. She's had good backing despite the gate. Apocalyptic at $6.00. Gangsta Granny around $9.00. And then Plaintiff, we know, is very good on her day, $10.00. And Savvy Halley, I reckon the Mulberry slot there for the Everest, they wanted to go with Savvy Halley. They probably were a little bit, well, they were disappointed first up. She did have excuses, but she'd want to run an improved race this time around if they're going to consider her for an Everest. She's at $17.00, Dino. Who do you like here?
Speaker 25Yeah, interesting, interesting race. You know, Lady Shenandoah's got that big weight and I've got her mapping sort of three wide, no cover. And it's a pretty sort of messy map for her. I wonder whether they wait a week and go to the 400 next week again. this picture might be a scratching. You know, Lazura sort of had a couple of really quiet trials and got beat first up last prep in what was a suitable race. I just wonder whether she might need a run despite being favourite. Apocalyptic, you know, is a horse that we've followed. We backed her at sort of $26 in futures to win the flight states last prep, last year. Love the horse. But I'm just not convinced she's quite come back as well as she has in previous preps. And like you mentioned, Savvy Helly, Gangster Granny, they're all just a bit of a question mark on how well they've come up, some of these horses. The mare that I'm really interested in is Plaintiff, sort of double figure odds. She settled seventh in her first trial, ran second, beaten a long neck, ran plus 10.1 the last 400. That was the quickest of 27 trials on the day. Then she got back to sixth in a Randwick trial over 1,045 metres. She ran third, beaten about half length. They ran plus six the last 600. And she ran alongside Hedley Grange, who we saw come out and win it first up at Group 2 company last Saturday. Four wins and a second from the five career starts, including a Group 3. She gets back Plaintiff, but she's just one of those fillies that's a mare that's a real winner. And I just find, you know, even though she's somewhat up in class here, I just think there's some question marks over those at the top of the weights about whether they're really going as well as they can. And she's going to stand out to me at the trials. Plaintiff's sort of each way a double figure odds. I like her here.
Speaker 2Yeah, it's a good push for Plaintiff then in the Scirocco. Then we go to Flemington, the Archers race five. You win this, you're into the Melbourne Cup. And the Arco fraud just keeps on going. Keeps on winning for the McEvoy's at 360. Let's steal. She has to carry 58 and a half, but we got a good push from Danny O'Brien yesterday on Giddy Up Stable Mail. Chocolates at 480. Jennifer Moose around that $6 quote. And Michael Kent Jr. was bullish about the chances of Think Giant being on top of the ground tomorrow afternoon at 650 here, Dean.
Speaker 25Yeah, only two editions of this race in this format since it moved to September. Both of those winners came off a 2,000 metre run last start. Revolare last year came out of the same 2,000 metre race that Let's Deal, Ginny Vermoose and Chocolates ran in a fortnight ago. And that to me doesn't look like the right form race for this. You mentioned Danny O'Brien. He could be in for a really big day on Saturday. I've got Let's Deal rating on top. She placed in sort of the Galilee finals in the St. Linger as a three-year-old filly on a group three in Adelaide over 2,500. She absolutely bolted in on Melbourne Cup day last year over 2,800 at this track by three and a half lengths. Second in the Royal Higgins. Fifth in the Sydney Cup last year. She's now a five-year-old mare, I think, at the peak of her powers. I thought she was really good. Second to St. George last start. And she's been set for this for a long time to qualify for the Melbourne Cup third up. I think it's just really ideal for her. I think the dangers of those that sort of finished just behind her in that race last fortnight, Ginny Vermoose and Chocolates from the Kieran Marstable are probably the two. Chocolates has had two runs over Flemington, 2,500 and won them both. And Ginny Vermoose ran fourth in this race last year. But Ginny Vermoose is a really good race. But I'm pretty keen on Litsteel. I think she's been set for this. And I think she's going to prove really hard to beat.
Speaker 2So a good push for Litsteel there in the Archer. And then in race six at Flemington over the 1,400 metres, you've got Sassapille that's the favourite. Dani O'Brien reckons she can bounce back after disappointing there the other day. But it was the ground, he reckons. So she is on a firm track again on Saturday. She's at 2,800. Just party 4,400. Fancify at seven. Lim Saltero, $11. And we got one hell of a push from J.D. Hayes yesterday with Cafe Millennium each way at $12 here, Dean.
Speaker 25Yeah, like I said, I think Dani O'Brien could be in for a big day. And I'm keen on Sassapille here. One of the keynotes I took at that Caulfield meeting a couple of weeks ago was there were a lot of horses you could forgive. That track was a bit shifty. And you just had a lot of really high quality horses that didn't run up to their best. I think Sassapille is a group. One mare for the future. Her wins in the Desirable and the CUNY last prep were really impressive. She rated really high and very good sectionals. I've got a first up win rated really well as a second highest rating run. And then you'd expect her second up to bounce back or bounce up from that. And she was just below par. I think it was the shifty track. That just wasn't her. She rated a lot lower than she usually does. And if she comes back and rates where she has around winning those two black type races last prep and even her first up run, I think she's going to be really hard to beat sort of controlling the speed up on top here. Logan Bates is the ideal rider for the Flemington 1400. And I think she's going to prove really hard to beat in a day where Danny's got also like Jetsmash and Gold Coast Bell as well. And he's sort of got at least four really, really strong winning chances, I think, at Flemington on Saturday.
Speaker 2So Danny O'Brien to have a big day for the winning edge investments team to win the Archer Stakes with lit steel. And of course, Sassapule to win the race after that race number six and the Scirocco with plaintiff there, the team Snowden. She's alibi when the Maccabi Divi or you think Sir Delius is a chance to cause the upset or Mr. Brightside to win this race again?
Speaker 25I do think she's alibi when she's just a superstar mare. She's ready to go here. She prepares for the Golden Eagle, but she's just a bit more forward than some of the others, I would say. And Sir Delius will run a really good race, but he's more being targeted at Turnbull than the Cox Plate. Mr. Brightside is an old marvel. He was an incredible first up. But I just think she's alibi on the ratings. He's got a fair bit on these and she should be able to slot in and get a really nice run, sort of one off the fence with cover. And I think she'll dominate them on Saturday.

Speaker 26Yeah, look, just ask Maccabi there. The betting flux is going to be great. I don't know. I think you'll get better than the $1.75 floating around for She's Alibi just because Sue Dillies is first up. Right side, probably one and a half to two and a half lengths off his best form, even though he's a good sort of rubber stamp go-forward horse. Big question is, do you need to run a big overall number to win this race? There's not a lot of pace in it. So, look, I think I'm not a massive same-race multi-person. I just don't play them. And just as I'm talking, I see... Until tomorrow.

Speaker 26Until tomorrow. So, Sue Dillies running in the top three. And I was going to take Birdman in the top five, but he's just coming out. So, there goes that idea. Hey, go back to race four down at Flemish in your way. And with the Sydney Colts Paradoxium, who's trialled really well. His data was fantastic up here in that trial. I think Steel Will has been missed by the market a bit. He sort of won really well first up at Wyong here. And then he just sort of got home over the 1,300 metres. I love horses going back in trip down the straight. Benny Mellum and Chris, well, they're hugely profitable combinations. So, I'll be following into them. And then up here, we've got the run to the Rose, which is the feature up here. Gee, first six in running at Rose Hill tomorrow. I don't know if you've got those track stuff I said pretty earlier.
Speaker 6Yeah.
Speaker 26And I think you'll probably see St. Goddard one out, one back. The problem is, is they're going to hum along in front. You've got the plagiarism from Waterhouse and Bott and the horse music time out wide coming across. They like to go hard in there. So, just think a horse first up, like St. Goddard, as good as he is with J-Mac in the saddle, and he's going to mat well. I just think the pace of the race, unlike the Maccabi Diva, I think there's going to be a true test. And I reckon a horse like Under Focus, he'll probably have St. Goddard's back. I reckon it just plays a little bit into his space. So, I'm backing him on an each-way basis, my man.
Speaker 2Yeah. And I know that you lot have got a big opinion of him and Chris Lee's prepared. So, it's a good race. I think Dean Watling was playing those two horses. Under Focus and Central Europe as well. Yeah.
Speaker 26Central Europe being on the fence probably free back the rail. And Dino's right. They're the two horses that are in that spot. If Central Europe gets off the fence, yes. Just whether or not he can get off the fence. But Zach Lloyd's in the saddle, and I don't think there's anyone riding better than Zach Lloyd at the moment in the country. He is absolutely flying. So, he'll get every chance.

Speaker 14Yeah, we'll go to Hastings. Hastings, race six, 10 foot tall. This horse, the heavy track, she will love it. Back to the mile, on a freshener, Michael McNabb on. There are so many positives that this horse will run well, and I think she'll be winning.
Speaker 2Race six, number 10 at Hastings. Then we'll go to Rose Hill next in Sydney.
Speaker 14Race seven, Lazora. She's the best mare in this race, in my opinion. It's a very good field, but she was sensational in the autumn. She was good last spring. Jaymack on. I've liked her trials leading into this, and I think she'll be hard to beat.
Speaker 2So Lazora for Jaymack and Waller first up, and then we go to Flemington headquarters, highlighted areas, of course. We've got the first of the, well, we've got the group one, the Maccabi Diva stakes.
Speaker 14Yeah, got the Maccabi Diva. I like a horse that's not... Not being spoken about, but I think he's a great place bet, another will. Okay. I like him. John Allen jumping on for Kieran Marr here. Just forget the first up run. When he was in Brisbane second up last campaign, he went a huge race in the Kingsford Smith. Second up here, I think he can run a really good race and turn his form around, and he's a great place bet, so another will.

Speaker 2I'm excited about this program tomorrow. Beautiful day in Melbourne town. We're back at headquarters, the home of racing. We've got Sir Delius and She's Alibi going head-to-head in Maccabi Diva. A wonderful group of three-year-olds. There's a lot unknown there, which I think is exciting as well. And then the Archer, you win that, and you're into the Melbourne Cup. So for a spring afternoon, football finals as well, that'll be on later that night. There's plenty to get excited about, Lee.
Speaker 27Well, you're right, Gareth. I mean, as you said, the footy finals for the AFL are in interstate this weekend, in Friday, and also Saturday night, as you said, up in Brisbane. And then we've got all the Americans in town watching the great game this morning. So hopefully they'll stay on. A lot of people have rang up and coming along because they've come down for this game today and they're staying on. So I think we could get 10,000-plus easy.
Speaker 6That'll be great.
Speaker 27When you think about it, it's going to be 21-22. And you just rolled off some of the highlights. I mean, you know, the Crown Maccabi Divas, probably one of the best Maccabi Divas I've seen in recent years. I know Chris Waller's taken three out, unfortunately. He's taken Buckaroo and Birdman and Eliana out. But we're left with a field of 10 with nine Group 1 winners. And wouldn't it be great to see Mr. Brightside win four in a row in the one race? The last horse to do that was Winx.
Speaker 6Yeah.
Speaker 27Winning the Cox plate. So it'll be a rare, a rare feat. And I think everyone will be cheering him home for sure.
Speaker 2You'll have to name a bar. I'm afraid if he can do that.
Speaker 27Talk to the Hayes boys. Maybe they might shout the bar.
Speaker 2Yeah, yeah. That'll be doubtful. But anyway, now, and then the Archer, mate. It's an important race because if you win this, you're into the Melbourne Cup. And to be honest, these horses competing in the Archer won't be winning a Melbourne Cup. Well, you never know, but it'd be unlikely. But it still gives them a chance to live the dream and to get into the race that everybody wants to get into.
Speaker 27Well, that's right. And we've got... You know, a lot of local golden tickets now. And we've added the Geelong Cup and the Moonee Valley Gold Cup. So we've got the Archer. Then we've got the Cummings coming up. So plenty of opportunity for, you know, local connections to get in. I mean, Litz Deals, a half-sister, the Vow and Declare, she'd be popular. The Arco Frods, I think, won his last four on end. So there's some good stays in there. So let's wait and see tomorrow and see who salutes, who gets the golden ticket to go in. I must admit to Poseidon. I've touched on them before. The Poseidon and the Captain Tebes are at Group 3 level for the first time as they've been elevated. And, gee, that's really going to shape what the Coolmore looks like, you know, on Derby Day. They're top-quality fields, those two races. We're seeing Streisand resume. But there's some really good horses, some down from Sydney as well. So looking forward to those early in the day. And the other one we've got to mention, Gareth, is for the first time. The Michael Moroney is being run. And, obviously, in tribute to the great trainer, Michael Moroney, won a Melbourne Cup with Brew. He won a lot of Group 1 races. And he was a resident at Flemington for many, many decades. And, look, we're honoured that we're able to name the race after him, Race 2.
Speaker 2And from a spring racing carnival perspective, especially for your great race, that Melbourne Cup, it's a very important weekend in Europe. This weekend, both in Ireland and England. And then the weights come out next week, don't they, for the Melbourne Cup?
Speaker 27They do. We've also got our late entry closing on Tuesday. So there's a lot of action, as you said. I mean, Joseph's got many runners. He's got a runner in the UK, St. Ledger, on Saturday night, Highwayman. He's got runners in, there's a race called the Group 3, Kilton and Stakes, over 2400 at the Currah, where he's got multiple runners, Sons and Lovers and Goody Two. Two shoes that ran second in the Cup last year. We'll be having her, probably her last run before she comes out here. James J. Braddock. And also in the Irish St. Ledger, he's got two, Trust Your Instinct and maybe Sons and Lovers. And actually tonight, there's a horse called Winday running in the Group 2 Doncaster Cup. Yes. That's trained by Emmett Mullins, who's actually Willie's nephew. Yeah. And he still has a hope to maybe come out. So plenty of action. Aidan's got... A few runners as well. So you're right, it's an important weekend. And definitely be watching not only Flemington on Saturday, but also across in Europe.

Speaker 28All right. Race two, number two, enjoy life. I think it's the best of the night. I think it'll be leading. I know Emma Stewart's got a lot in the race, but it's the one that leads for mine. And it'll be awfully, awfully hard to beat. So I like it. And the one that's probably a little bit surprised at the price is I thought Pastor Dunbar was about an even money chance in race five, but they're betting a lot better than that. So he's a really, really nice horse. He is. So they're the two.
Speaker 2And what about today, more importantly?
Speaker 28So today, Wagga, got the train, trying to drive her in the car with me. Very, very keen on banded eyes in the last.
Speaker 2I looked at that race. Co-captain's going to be hard to beat. Does he think he can sit outside of that? Now, he's not. Absolutely.
Speaker 28Absolutely. Categorically, yes, he did. It says it's working as good as Wicked Confession. Yes. And Wicked Confession was so good last night.
Speaker 2I know Wicked Confession is our horse that we won the Melly Bull Cup with, and then we didn't get a share, which we should have. Yeah. But 26 off the back, geez, he put the foot down. We could go 26 on the way home and win, don't you reckon, DC?
Speaker 28Has to make a statement for next week. Yes. Just needs the right draw, and geez, she was a good one.
Speaker 2She was sensational. He's always boisterous anyway when he's on the track. That's the way he drives, and you wouldn't want to change him at all, would you really, Albie?
