Speaker 2yeah straight to the superstar how have you been kath how you've been usually i usually i interview your co-trainer he just wants to get off so i just thought i'd get straight to the point i apologize for that that is bloody rude of me and you make a really good point so how have you been kath what's been happening have you been keeping out of trouble
Speaker 3yes always always and and thankfully uh she's alibi is going just as well she's also in very good order and has been keeping out of trouble likewise who do you check on first pounding or she's alibi when you go into the stables uh well only she's alibi just because her box is the first one that i happen to walk past but you know there's there's no favorites 1600 meters do you think this is her distance 1600 um yeah it's interesting isn't it i guess we're still we're still learning really and the way that she raced first up kind of made us think that maybe she's looking for that little bit further this time around and and whether she's looking for 2000 so it's it's just going to be interesting i think 1600 last prep was definitely her sweet spot um i think she's really improved out of that first up run we knew that she had a lot of improvement to come going into it and um i think she's tightened up nicely fitness wise so yeah look i think um i think the mile's definitely going to suit her uh and it's just going to be really interesting to see you know whether she shows us that this still is a sweet spot or whether she is looking to stretch out over a little bit further now and what do you think

Speaker 3i'm i'm really hoping that we see a um absolutely motoring home uh i'd say from that nice from that draw hopefully it sort of allows us to build into it when we need to uh you know first up drawing barrier one we sort of were a little bit um hesitant that we were going to sort of get stuck there and not have a lot of room to move when we needed to and then she stepped a little bit slow anyway but uh yeah just hopefully that that draw allows us to be um getting mobile and and building into it when we need to and i think that'll see a really strong late
Speaker 2and what do you think a perfect setup is because uh in history tells you in these type of races especially like last year that mr brightside was able to walk in front now i don't think they'll go that slow um but you're confident if they're only going moderate in a in a macaibi diva her turn of foot will be too good for arrival still on saturday yeah look you like to think so she has shown a
Speaker 3really good turn of foot previously um but like you said you know you've just got to be mindful that in the past when you know a really good horse like mr b's been allowed to get away with some steady sectionals he's still got the um the ability to make it pretty difficult to run him down so you've got
Speaker 2to be mindful of that as well yeah um have you made up your decision what you do with after this before say the cox plate or a golden eagle or that would just depend which race you go to for
Speaker 3your grand final i guess yeah exactly which will sort of all be come a little bit clearer after saturday hopefully yeah um we can't wait to see you at headquarters so
Speaker 2that is exciting you got some nice chances engaged as well there it's flemington on saturday um autumn lover she's always showed plenty of ability she's a big price in the michael moroney what do you make
Speaker 3of her chances yeah she's a really nice filly she just wants firm ground um i think you saw her at a well you saw her sort of a little bit of what she's really got to offer when she won on the synthetic track here um at at packen and when she broke her maiden uh and then unfortunately she ran into soft ground again after that so she'll only take her place there on saturday if we do get um suitable track conditions but i think when you do see her on on good ground again you'll see her really sort of make her presence felt she's going very nicely and she's a nice filly with good ability is she your thousand guineas horse in a way yeah possibly whether she's got the physical strength and maturity to get there whether she's going to be more of an autumn sort of a filly we'll just be open-minded but yeah we we definitely
Speaker 2think she's got got really nice upside to her and honor the basset he went to country victoria and bolts at home how good is he this is a a really good beside and stakes this saturday there's some very promising three-year-olds as you would expect going around yeah definitely um in a way
Speaker 3sort of throwing him in the deep end a little bit but it's probably a good chance to have a look at him and see how he measures up because he's a cult that's sort of done everything um quite easily so far uh with what we've thrown with what we've thrown in front of him so yeah just a nice chance to see how he measures up but again he's he's done everything in a really pleasing manner today group one winner desert lightning you're
Speaker 2happy with him heading towards the bobby lewis yeah we're going to give him a look up the straight
Speaker 3for the first time which will be something completely new and different for him so sometimes with these older horses especially the older geldings you know you just try and mix it up every now and then and um throw them a little curveball and keep them on their toes so i'm excited to see what he makes of that but he's in good order uh he just found that that track a little bit too soft last start as well so he was good first up i think he's going nicely and yeah it's going to be very interesting to see how he handles the straight track for the first time and then your mares in the let's elope stakes
Speaker 2mystery and drama that was scratched yesterday's at a big price and then button up princess and gold medalists who would be your best chance out of those three i think button up princess is going
Speaker 3very well uh she was terribly unlucky at court and she's going to be the best chance out of those Caulfield last start just didn't get a crack at them at all, basically just had a track gallop. So with a little bit more luck in running, I think she can go there and run a big race. And gold medalist, we know that when she gets to that 1,400 metres, she's always very honest. So I'd probably have the two of them, just depending on who gets a better run in transit.
Speaker 2And another one for Wiley Dale Seal. It's Azura heads up to Rose Hill on Saturday. Very good first up. It didn't have much luck there the other day, Caulfield. What do you make of his chances there at Rose Hill Saturday?
Speaker 3Yeah, he's another one that just wants firmer ground than what he found the other day. When he won, he was at Slemington that day when we ended up on a good bore. So providing that he gets suitable track conditions, I think he's going nicely and he can definitely, he finds the right sort of racing grade there. So I think he goes up there in really good order.
Speaker 2So that's race five, number five there at Rose Hill. Now, Kath, if I gave you $100, what would you do? What would you do with it this weekend?
Speaker 3Oh, all right. I reckon I'd be having 50 on Butternut Princess in race nine. uh i'd be having 25 on on alibi yes and then i reckon what's half of 25 12 and a half yes and we split that and we'll just go autumn lover each way and honor the basset each way beautiful all right then um that was some quick mental math from me as well i think

Speaker 2gareth hall welcome back to giddy apple thanks to bet365 this is giddy up stable male danny o'brien he has got his stable flying at the moment he's got some great chances engaged there at headquarters saturday afternoon and he joins us now how are you going danny i'm going well gareth oh that's good mate um let's get and have a look at your runners i might start off with your two-star mayor sass appeal and gold coast bell um what did you make of sass appeal the other day at caulfield
Speaker 4look it was it was first time ever she hadn't run on a good three or a good four yeah um and logan just said she was never really tracking you know and i was actually concerned watching it she got a lovely spot in running but when um you know she'd usually start to lift her rating from the 600 she she was clearly not traveling and um she was brave she still wanted to be there but uh logan just said it was it was a different different feeling for her on a soft seven um she just never really got comfortable so um you know we're getting back to what we know we do well there on saturday which is flemington and a good surface so hopefully she bounces back to what we think is her better form um yeah it looks
Speaker 2like a suitable race for her and you're confident she'll she'll do that on a good track i think so
Speaker 4no no we're very pleased with her uh yeah she obviously had a nice win at flemington first up uh she certainly didn't come out of that run in any way shape or form poorly she's she's worked very well here on tuesday morning so uh we're expecting her to get back to her best there on
Speaker 2saturday can't wait to see gold coast bell she goes around there let's elope stakes you're happy
Speaker 4with her couldn't be more happy you know you know she she built a nice record over the autumn and um she was terrific first up there at sandown um you know she this has been a target race for her from from when we put her out in the autumn to have her ready for mcavi davis stakes day for the let's elope and uh she's going to get there in great shape yeah it looks like she's going to get there in great shape
Speaker 2yeah it looks like she'll be on pace make your own luck once again and be hard to catch
Speaker 4yeah i i think so i think the map looks reasonably straightforward uh broke to atataki's horse that generally rolls forward and takes it up and and we should roll across with it and get that get that um stalking position outside lead and you know from that positioning running
Speaker 2she's got every hope what are you expecting from see what i see first up well we're very pleased
Speaker 4with her too she she's um had a luckless prep in the autumn but ran very well each time she's stepped out uh she's spelled well she's building up nicely her trials have been excellent uh first up in the autumn she all but won a very similar race she just got caught and ran second in a group mayor's race there in the autumn so uh certainly expecting her to get a a nice running transit and be right in the finish would it surprise you if she beat the favorite uh look i think it wouldn't surprise me she she's a talented mayor as i said she raced without luck in the autumn she she's a talented mayor she's a talented mayor she's a talented mayor she's a talented mayor she's a talented mayor she's a talented mayor she's a talented mayor she's a talented mayor she's a talented mayor she's a talented mayor she's a talented mayor she's all but won a very similar race in the autumn so she's she's certainly there with it with her own chance of winning it
Speaker 2i reckon you would have loved one smooth operator to accept in the archer stakes but uh lit still now has to carry what 58 and a half um but lit still is flying at the moment did you enjoy her second
Speaker 4up run the other day yeah she was terrific the horse of kieran's was just too good for us on the day um but yeah you know similar to gold coast bell and a couple others this has been a target for us to have her ready for for maccabi day for this particular race as you said it would have been a lot friendlier set up for us if uh we had the top weight there and and she was only a kilo over the minimum but she's now four and a half over um but it is what it is yeah you just got to take what what the race is and uh she's going to get there in in really good order uh and she's a terrific mayor at flemington she'll be suited getting back on top of the ground she's suited getting out to 2500 meters so she's going to be a terrific mayor and she's going to be a terrific
Speaker 2there's plenty of other positives for her um so that's a good push for lit steel what about in the mike maroney now athira is an interesting runner i know mark hunter was really bullish about her chances first up there at caulfield but it looked like she just didn't enjoy the going there as well
Speaker 4no she wasn't we took um a few there that day and certainly her and sass appeal the the reports from both riders was they never traveled on it um so look she's obviously got the outside barrier which make it even more complicated there's some chance that we we take her out and run her in the guineas prelude next saturday at um at at caulfield because the weather looks good and we're hoping to get a firmer track there at caulfield next saturday and cliff runner
Speaker 2well he did enjoy a heavy ground um there the other day he's at a big price in the mike maroney
Speaker 4he's got a terrible gate as well yeah he has we will run him because we're trying to build him up in trip um but yeah from that gate he'll be midfield or back
Speaker 2and uh get his chance to hit the line how good's this jet smash um showed a lot last preparation son of brave smash your thoughts there and the first look he's got a good record you know he's
Speaker 4um he's six starts four wins uh his last start there at caulfield at the end of the prep he had you know everything go against him still just got you know beaten half a length run fourth so um he's a nice horse uh this looks a really suitable kick up for him um and we're happy with the way he's prepped up his trials have been good and uh expecting him to run well all right if i gave you a hundred dollars what are you doing with it on saturday danny uh it's an interesting one um yeah there's three or four that are all going to start sort of close to favorite um i'll probably think lips deal uh even with the weight i do think she's a talented mayor that we're hoping to run in a melbourne cup so uh even with the weights against her on saturday she has to be very hard to beat in an archery if
Speaker 2further into the spring with her love it the lexus archer stakes race five number two the hundred dollar play there for danny o'brien with lit steel now i've got something i need to bring up with you danny last time we had a chat to you i said you're liking it i think it's seeing more you said on they're they're just first up we'll just wait and see you got a double
Speaker 4early in the spring you are flying a little blind particularly in these maidens like we've got a horse there today that we like um in race one at sea living bridge yeah he's also opening it ends up in the derby now um the market doesn't like him at all um but it certainly doesn't mean that we don't we think he's a nice horse and uh yeah you just don't have a lot of data on your own horses when they're one or two start horses and then obviously you've got to respect the horses from other stables that might be one or two start horses so we're all running nice three-year-olds in august and september and hoping they step out and run well and and you know the philly that won near the other day autumn in grinsing we're really hoping ends up in the oak so um but it you know it's hard to give too strong a push because there's just so many unknowns but um the horse that we're running there today we do like him and uh he had to go back and And I thought he ran particularly well given the way that race panned out. So he'll be a lot more prominent today and I expect him to run well.

No, because it's the Winterbottom. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. They can come back home and then do the Quokka. But, yeah, I think that you'll have to do him a pretty good deal to bypass the Winterbottom. So who knows what Cindy will do. But on display will be hard to beat over the 1,400 metres there at Pakenham. But we can talk about another day anyway. Maybe no ballast or something like that. Yeah. Space rider. Jeez, my racehorses are flying at the moment, aren't they? They're doing a wonderful job. And this son of Sooster, he's three from three first up, Michael. Can he continue his unbeaten record fresh?
Speaker 5Yeah, you're right. They're doing a fantastic job. They're extremely progressive for a syndicator. And it's always, when you go to the races and you have a horse full, it's always easy to find your horse. There's always a big crowd milling around the tie-ups. And it's great for racing. It's bringing a lot of people into the game. So, yeah, no, look, I did the form in that race, and I thought he would be Mark's second or third favorite, honestly. And obviously, I shouldn't be a bookmaker because he's the outsider of the field. But I just think he's a group three winner. He's returning as a gelding. He needs good ground. He's going to get that. And he's three for three fresh up, as you said, with Mark on in a small field. So, we're very happy with him. I think he'll turn up and run a very good race. And no surprise if he wins. The 60 doesn't bother you?
Speaker 2No. No. He's a strong horse in the sprint race. Lucky you're not a bookie because you're a punter. And when you're a punter, you've got to make the most of these opportunities, Michael.
Speaker 5Yeah, well, they're all hard to win, but I just thought he was well-placed. He goes like a bomb fresh. And his last fresh run, he won a group three Manfred sitting three deep. So, I think he's well-placed in a benchmark 84.
Speaker 2Can Phillip Island cause an upset in the Michael Moroney?
Speaker 5No, because we'll probably save him. It looks a very busy race. Where does he end up? We'll probably just take him out and wait for a better option.
Speaker 2The Poseidon Stakes are beauty. What did you make of Big Sky's trial there the other day?
Speaker 5I think it was better than what it may look. I think if Lockie Neindorf had have let him stride and run, he was going to lead the trial. He would have led and then won the trial, no problem. But we're just trying to get the horse to settle. And he spent probably half the trial bringing him back. At the same time, horses were making their runs behind him, had momentum up. And his last furlong and half the line was very good. So, I think it was a little hidden. I wouldn't read too much into the result. I think the horse is going super. And, yeah, he's had a long time off. But we've given him three trials. And he's possibly vulnerable. Because he's not raced in six months. And he'll improve for the run. But he's clearly a classy colt. And I can't wait to see what he can do on Saturday.
Speaker 2Do you think he's the best colt in the race?
Speaker 5I'm really hoping so. I just think he's got that X factor about him. We don't quite know where his ceiling is yet. You know, he's had two starts. He won his first start down the straight quite green by two lengths. And then he's got that X factor about him. And his chairman stakes victory was impressive. Like, he won by nearly three lengths. Ears pricked on the line. Mellon grabbed a hold of him. So, he hasn't really been fully tested. He was always the type that would get better at three. Like, compared to Guesthouse, he was quite immature through the body. He had quite a flat wither. He's really come on with that time off and grown up into a masculine animal. So, yeah, I'm really excited to see what he can do. He's a little vulnerable because he's had a tough time. But I think he's just got that little bit of something about him that we'll see it this spring.
Speaker 2And, you know, I reckon Mick Price, correct me if I'm wrong, and we love Mick Price because he says it how it is. I reckon he did say Big Sky was his pick over Guesthouse in their two-year-old season. Would that be right? I reckon he was leaning towards Big Sky. Was it the other way around, was it? Oh, there you go.
Speaker 5No, he was always Team Guesthouse. Yeah. There was never much between them. I mean, this horse was favourite for the Blue Diamonds.
Speaker 2He was, yeah.
Speaker 5The day before he came out. So, that's the sort of level he is. He's got to come back and do it, yes. But he's had a beautiful campaign. As you know, we're very transparent with information. All I can tell you is he's not had a single off day. Everything's been great. His track ride is delighted with him. So, I think he'll show up. If he gets beat for absolute race fitness, well, fine. But he'll improve into the Dane Hill. And then... Hopefully, the Blue Saffron, the Coolmore. So, yeah. Personally, I think he'll go very well. He's just an exciting colt.
Speaker 2I think the most important information out of your comments there with Big Sky is that you were happy with his trial. So, that is good enough for me. What about Bugsy in the same race? Your thoughts there, William's rides from a low gate down the straight?
Speaker 5Well, he hasn't done much wrong, Bugsy. He was mighty tough first up. He got headed to dig himself out of a hole. Did a great job. He's really... He's really come on. He could not be going any better. I think we've got him absolutely cherry ripe. His work on Tuesday was superb. He sat five lengths off a mate and picked him up comfortably. I think he'll enjoy getting on top of the ground. And I think he'll enjoy going up to 1,100. He's just got to be good enough against... You know, it's a new test for him against some classier colts. He hasn't faced these sort of animals before. But he's always shown a lot of ability. So, yeah. I think... I think... I think Big Sky's certainly been a bit flasher in his wins. And Bugsy's been a bit more workmanlike to this point. But he's an improving animal. And a win wouldn't surprise me at all. He's really going the right way.
Speaker 2Geez, I'm excited about a runner here for your stable on Saturday. Think giant. Thor Hammerhansen told me, just wait for this horse to get on a good track, Gareth. And we're going to get that on Saturday, Michael. My man Thor. Yo, man. My man Thor Hammerhansen. I'll be expecting...

Speaker 2Yeah. Hopefully, if he wins... If he wins today, I expect him to get the phone call to come and ride him again in the Melbourne Cup. Hopefully, he doesn't get lost like he did last year. Yeah, no. No. He can stay in Germany. The German gallop is a big chance here, I reckon.
Speaker 5Yeah. Yeah. I already fancy him. Yeah. Look, Nyarko Freud, very hard to beat. Lit Steel. Genevieve Amoos. There's some nice horses that are all in good form. But his horse is on the way up. He's going to be fourth. He's going to be fourth. Fourth run in Australia. As you highlighted last time we spoke about him, we were concerned about the heavy eight track at Sandown. And that didn't help. So, back onto a good track. We're also five weeks between runs there at Sandown. Logan gave him a little message out of the gates. He got keen for the first 1,000. They were dawdling at 14.5 down the back. It was a sprint home down the dip there at Sandown. He got a bit unbalanced. I just think that run under his belt, jauness week, down the minimum, back onto a good track and fourth run in, and second run at a mile and a half, importantly. Just think, you know, he's just going beautifully. He's really in the zone. His work is beautiful. So, yeah, I'm very keen on his chances. I think, yeah, the top few are hard to beat for sure. But he's a quality animal. And I reckon he'll run his best race yet in Australia. And if he does bring his A1 form, he's good enough to win.
Speaker 2He's going to be my player, I reckon, now for the top four, the Idiot Weekend Preview top four. So, if he doesn't finish top four, I can just blame you, Michael. If he does, well, it's...

Speaker 2that barrier. Is she still your best chance despite the draw over the second favourite, Just a Deal?
Speaker 7To be honest, Just a Deal is going to put himself on pace. He's a rock hard fit and be hard to catch, so it's going to be an interesting race because you have one eye at the back of the field, one eye at the front and seeing how it pans out in the straight. So I think Storm Leopard's got more upside, but Just a Deal is a quality galloper in his own right. He's a good Flemington horse and I think he's starting to run himself
Speaker 2into form. What's the race for Storm Leopard? Have you got a big dream for him this preparation?
Speaker 7Got a couple Gary, but we need to get his rating up. So hopefully we're able to, yeah, but the dreams could be busted if we're not able to get his rating up in time, which is fine, but we are hoping that potentially if it goes to plan and we're building a bit of a picket fence, that he'll end up in a race like the Caulfield Cup, but it could be a year too soon.
Speaker 2Evaporate was excellent last week in the So You Think. What's his aim next?
Speaker 7We're going to have a look at the Rupert Clark in two weeks and holding on in the Underwood as well. Because he's at the, he ran over 1500 metres, it leaves the two options open. We don't have to change too much with his training regime in the mornings, but he's pulled up super. It was a good confidence builder for him and hopefully he's able to build into the preparation in deeper races now.
Speaker 2And Chirac Horse maybe as well?
Speaker 7Yeah, he went oh so close last year, so we've definitely got a big circle around the Chirac and even possibly

Speaker 2What was your conversation like with your old man after Carrying Rising did what he did there on Sunday?
Speaker 7It was quite phenomenal. Words didn't do it justice. It was just really summed up in a word that "what a freak" and how lucky that is to have him in his stable. So, the time that he ran and all the chat that's going on, it's great to have a horse of that quality that the world's tuning in and watching.
Speaker 2Can you believe they can go? Well, he can go that quick. What did you think when you heard the time for the first time?
Speaker 7106.1, I went a bit cross-eyed. I thought, "Oh, my God, I didn't know I was going to go that quick." 106.1, I went a bit cross-eyed. Speaker 7I do like the chances of just desserts. I think he's a horse that's... He's a four-year-old and he's the one that is capable of going through the grades, but he just needs to get the first half of the race right. He's got a tendency to over-race, but we're just going to have to see what happens. We've done a lot of work with him to settle and hopefully that's the case today. If he does, he'll be hard to beat.
Speaker 2So that's race eight, number six there at Seymour. If I gave you $100, JD, what would you do with it on Saturday?
Speaker 7I'd go 50 each way, Cafe Millennium. I think he'll bounce back on his favorite track.

He heads to Flemington down the straight on Saturday, and he's superstar trainer Tom Dabinick joins us now. G'day, Tom. Good morning. He is building up quite the following, isn't he, at the moment?
Speaker 8Yes, he's a horse that even if you go back to his early runs, if you saw him win at Geelong, he was held up on that occasion and really showed a great turn of foot to win. And then came back, obviously, and had a good last prep. And we deliberately didn't go to Adelaide and left him here to run at the hometown carnival, Warrnambool, and win the Wongoom. And then the plan was always to have him prepared for this spring. So, he kicked off perfectly. His trial was good, and then his first out run was excellent. And tomorrow, it's his first time to Flemington down the straight, but he's got a nice middle draw. And it'll help us map out, you know, potentially what we might do with him over Cup week if he performs well, like we expect him to on Saturday.
Speaker 2Obviously, we won't know. He'll handle the straight until he competes, but you've had so much experience in this game. Do you think he'll be following down that straight there at Flemington?
Speaker 8Look, the straight is hard to know with horses. I find that he's a horse that around a bend, he really accelerates well off the corner. And so, look, he may be potentially, at about the 400, 500, 400, wondering where the corner was. But I like that middle draw. He can just come out and ride him smoothly. And hopefully, he does, because there's so many, you know, nice options in the future, like, you know, new market handicaps and so forth. So, yeah, it'll be a little bit of a, unanswered question till Saturday, but I'd be surprised if he doesn't. Manicato after this? Yes, that's the plan. So, yeah, which I think will be perfect third up and back to Caulfield. So, it should all fall into place nicely.
Speaker 2I know Mr. Villandis would be desperate to get you to an Everest because I think that the Everest needs a storyline like your horse as well for their big race. Have you taken many phone calls regarding that race?
Speaker 8There has been a little bit of interest, to be honest. Andrew Harrison, the owner of the horse, who bred the horse as well as got the mare, we've been talking about it, as you'd expect we would. And he's probably, with preference, would probably be to keep him in Melbourne through the spring. But at this stage, we're just wanting to revisit everything. After this Saturday and our sights at the moment just sort of focused on the Manicato at the moment.
Speaker 2Yeah. And Kaveri Gill, gee, she did you proud there last Saturday in the moor out?
Speaker 8She got us out of our seat for a few strides. I must admit, when she kicked in, I was take nothing away from the winner though. It was a good performance and we're thrilled for John Mercado, Jamie Mott. So, yes, but Kaveri Gill, it was a big thrill to even run a place. So, we always like to win, but group one, second, she's really had a wonderful prep, really. We were kicking off in Benchmark 70 grade and ended up getting enlisted at group three and a group one placing. So, she's done very well.

Speaker 2I am well, mate. Flemington, you've got a couple of fillies going down the straight. Sintilation, first of all, for Nige and Anthony Mithen. Nigel Austin, of course. Can she win?
Speaker 11Yeah, for sure. Yeah? She's a very consistent filly. As you go through a form, she doesn't know how to run a bad race, and she's just come across a pretty brilliant filly in the Croisette, and she acquitted herself really well there. And that filly subsequently went on and runs her very well in the Moyer. So, you know, she's got great form lines, and she's been down the straight once and ran well down it. So, yeah. We think – I thought she was actually a touch over, to be fair, when I saw the cloak. Yeah.
Speaker 2So, Tana Glow, she's got a big motor. Like, she was unlucky in a Percy Sykes. She won her first two races. Like, how good is she, John?
Speaker 11She's untapped because she's one of those laponic fillies that only does what she has to. And every time we've taken her to the races, she's probably surprised us a bit. But I think we'd love to have started the last week, to be fair, in Sydney.
Speaker 6Yeah.
Speaker 11She just had a little setback in the lead-up to that race, and we decided not to run her. But we'll get her started down the straight, and then she'll probably progress on to a 1,400 at Caulfield and see if she can't stretch out, you know, a little bit. So, we're very pleased with her. You know, she'll be ridden conservatively early and to finish, and hopefully she gives a good account of herself.
Speaker 2Is there a chance they might be too nippy for her over the 1,100 metres?
Speaker 11No, I'd say not first up. You know, like, I think she – she's had a great foundation, and, you know, she's got the penalty as well. So, but, you know, we're very happy with both fillies, and I like where they drew, and, you know, I think she sort of lends herself for them to both to give a good account of themselves.
Speaker 2And the straight, any concern with her?
Speaker 11Well, she's been down the straight once and put a lot of space on them. Yeah, she did, actually.
Speaker 2I apologise, though. There won't be any.
Speaker 11No, no, there shouldn't be no dramas there.
Speaker 2There shouldn't be no dramas. Yeah, she did bolt home, didn't she, there at Flemington. Then we go up. We go up to Rose Hill. Ken Mair-Bay, your thoughts there over the 2,400 metres?
Speaker 11Well, he sort of – when we bought him as a yearling, we sort of bought him as a horse to get to a mile and a half, so it's his first time. He's just taken a bit of time, seasoning-wise. But I don't think we've got a horse going better in our yard than this horse. Wow. He's really been working well, and he's racing well, reeling off really good sections, and he, you know, he came up against possibly the best young stayer in Sydney the other day. So, today – I would have loved him to have drawn just a touch in, just to put him to sleep the first bit, particularly at Rose Hill. But, anyway, I think he can run very, very well. Yeah, I think we're sort of – if he settles and executes the first part of the race well, he's got a lovely turn of speed, which most stayers don't have. And, you know, as a result, I think if he can, you know, run well here, he's got a nice future at a mile and a half.
Speaker 2Can Jamboree surprise there in race number five over the 1,500?
Speaker 11No. No. He's a horse that's very one-dimensional. He loves a mile at Randwick with a bit of juice in the ground where he controls. You know, he's going to get anything but that. But he needs to get started, and he's on, you know, to get back to the big dance later in the season, or the little dance which he runs in. And as long as we have him right on that day where he's been most effective previously, then we'll be happy with that.
Speaker 2And get a fix first up. He's a big price in the last.
Speaker 11I think that's all commensurate to where he drew, you know. Yeah. And he's got the car park, so he'll be last in the six at Rose Hill, which is, you know, that's for the game ones who want to back him at that. So, but as long as he gives a good account of himself, and then, you know, we can progress through the spring and try and place him to advantage, and then we might even see him back in Melbourne later on in the season.
Speaker 2Just need to put a TV in his barn and get him to watch one of his part owners and Tommy Papley play like he did last week. It might inspire him.
Speaker 11I'd like a bit of whatever he was on anyway, Gary.
Speaker 2Imagine getting a fix, winning and celebrating like Tommy. Nash won't be able to pull him up. You wouldn't be able to pull him up anyway, little Tommy Papley.
Speaker 11Well, he's the only bloke I've seen run faster after he kicks a goal than before he kicks a goal. Are you a Swan supporter? No, mate. I wouldn't know the first end of it, but I just, I do enjoy, Tommy Papley's the kind of guy that you would have loved to have played with. Yeah, 100%. He's so good. He's got his chips all in and plays with his heart. So, you know, he's a very inspiring little fella.
Speaker 2He might want to, like, he does some work with us on SEN. He does the Sydney set with Mickey Gannon on a Thursday night. He's a very good judge as well, but I reckon he'd be great at the Staples. You might have to get him down there. And he'll wear a Queensland jumper. I don't think he'd wear a New South Wales jumper, so you'll pass that test. Well, he gets a start anyway. Any winners today at Hawkesbury?
Speaker 11We've got two really nice young horses. You know, we've got a beautiful filly called Seminole who can win, but probably just lacks a little bit of ring craft. And, you know, she'll run very well and has a very bright future. And, you know, obviously our best chance of a horse called Concrete Storm, who was very good winning last start and looks to map well, which is very important at Hawkesbury and looks to have trained on well. So I think if, you know, both will give a good, but obviously the one in the last looks hard to beat at about evens or 65 to 40.
Speaker 2So that's race eight, number 12. Concrete Storm. You've got some great chances at Goulburn and Inquiring Minds and sooner go around in the time on it. Tungari Cup, which is of course a race there that is the big dance qualifier. Your thoughts there?
Speaker 11Well, I think we'll leave Zuna, we'll leave Inquiring Minds at home because he's owned by interests that come out of Bathurst and I think they'd like to try and win their home cup on Sunday. So, and, both races are big dance qualifiers. So, you know, I think that's why they're, well, that's why they're there. And Zuna has been knocking on the door all season and I think he gets his chance on Friday. We've got a very nice maiden horse in on there, up there as well. This is travelling companion. He's not up there because he's limited. He's up there because he's a travelling companion and the races were 50,000 horse called Sea Level. Yes. And I think if your own, if your listeners were to have something on him, I think you'll get a hell of a cheer.

The final will be held on Everest Eve and Caulfield Cup Eve at Wentworth Park. And it will be the final ever meeting at that iconic venue. In Australian racing. And Nick Cowley joins us now. Speaker 15Good morning, Gareth. How are you, mate? I am very well, mate. First of all.

Speaker 15First and foremost, congratulations, mate. I saw the post on social media. Who would have thought, hey?
Speaker 2Yeah, who would have thought? I'm a lucky man, so I appreciate that, Nick. I appreciate that. I think she, do you know what? Demi loves the dogs. So she's definitely coming to Wentworth Park for the final ever meeting.
Speaker 15Mate, it's good that you said that. You mentioned that because you will be there. We do. We did announce last week that through SEN and Rainmaker, we'll be showing the full broadcast of the meeting on 7+. Also on Racing.com, which will be a fantastic great for more eyes on the venue. Tickets are selling like, literally like hotcakes. We cannot believe how fast the tickets are going out the door. All of the corporate areas have already sold out, all the boxes. But there's still some general admission tickets. There's a specific way you can save your own seat for the night. You don't have to worry about rushing back and forth. You don't have to worry about running back or holding seats. So we've got that covered as well. As you said, it's the Million Dollar Chase. It'll be a fantastic night, but it won't just be about racing. It'll be a real nostalgic evening. Plenty of memories from the venues. I'm sure you've got plenty as well, mate.
Speaker 2Yeah, so how many people can you fit in at Wentworth Park?
Speaker 15Mate, we're about to find out, Gareth. I think there are indications it could be 6,000, 7,000. There's talk of 10. It's a fairly spacious venue. That grandstand, I can never remember it being full. But we'll certainly give it a push on October 16. There's that much interest around the event. It's incredible. It really is. I think anyone who's ever been to Wentworth Park wants to come back one last time.
Speaker 2And so like we saw at Moonee Valley when they tore the place down, obviously it's a new look Moonee Valley next September. But everyone was walking out with rails. I remember at Harold Park when they had their final meeting, there was people walking out with everything that they could put their hands on. And basically, are you allowed to do that at Wentworth Park?
Speaker 15Mate, what you will be allowed to do, and it's similar to when we closed Dapdo down last year. After the last race, we'll do the presentation for the Million Dollar Chase. Someone will walk out a millionaire. Then we'll allow every patron who is on track, we'll give them a little jar so they can go out on track and grab a piece of the Wentworth Park track. Put that as a memorabilia, put it on the mantelpiece when they get home. But then after that, another announcement that we made last week was that we're going to have the screaming, Jets play after the last race as well. Play for an hour or so as well. So it's a perfect way to farewell an iconic venue.
Speaker 2What's the feeling like there in New South Wales with the final meeting coming up there at Wentworth Park?
Speaker 15Look, Gareth, there is a bit of sadness, obviously. As you mentioned, Harold Park, it's the same sort of thing. It's historic. It's been there for 94 years. It's a heck of a long time. Everyone does have memories of the place. It's headquarters for Greyhound Racing here. The difference is, though, that it's a bygone era when people used to train dogs throughout Glebe, through Forest Lodge, same as it was for Harold Park as well. Now our epicentre of trainers is Londonderry, Richmond, out that way. We're a regional sport, essentially. 70% of our participants are based regionally. Look, the reality is a lot of people, a lot of trainers, don't like actually travelling into the city on a Thursday night or even a Saturday night because of traffic, because of tolls. These sorts of things. We are moving out of Wentworth Park. It's not our own decision, of course. The government did decide that they wouldn't extend our lease beyond next year. So we decided to pull the pin now, go out with a bang on October 16, the night before the Everest. It'll be massive.
Speaker 2Now, the Million Dollar Chase, we've had the qualifiers already start. The Victorians have hit the ground running. Now, they're going to be hard to beat in the tomorrow final. Jason Thompson's going to play a major part there. And then, and I think Storm Hustler's the 320 favourite with Bet365. Dramatical's a very good dog at 350. He's a pearl 350. Consigliere, that's one of our tips, I reckon, when I was talking to Georgie Ferugia and Jason Adams for the whole Million Dollar Chase series there. He's at 550 to win the tomorrow final. And then you've got the Maitland final, where you've got Sipper on time at 325. The favourite there, Mick. So it's in full swing, the Million Dollar Chase. And you've got the Million Dollar Chase already.
Speaker 15Mate, it is, Gareth. We kicked off two weeks ago with Nowra Heats. We've been to Grafton, Dubbo, all over the place already. Goulburn last Friday. Those dogs that you did mention, the whole idea of the Million Dollar Chase when we started in 2018 was so that the good dogs and the good trainers would take their dogs to regional areas. We raced 14 regions this year before we get to Wentworth Park. Now, Jason Thompson, Anthony Azapati, won at Wagga last week. these guys leading trainers, not just Victorian trainers, but leading national traders they're bringing their dogs to these country tracks to race the people of those regions are getting to see the dogs and then they come to wetworth park and race for the big money consigliere is that one you mentioned formerly with andy lord andy had an enormous rap on this dog thinks it's an absolute superstar it's already one feature race at wetworth park it loves the joint it will uh it'll be very hard to beat when it gets through to the semi-finals for sure and how do you qualify for the semi-finals the the way it's done gareth is we hold as i said these 14 regional events you have heats qualify for a regional final the first three in each regional final advance to the semi-finals on october 9 that night we run eight semi-finals it's cutthroat it's winner only gets through to the million dollar chase final where they get that chance
Speaker 2to race for a million dollars bring it on mate it's going to be some well it's the the final million dollar chase there at wetworth park i think it's quite fitting that you that you win this amazing chapter at this iconic venue with this million dollar race um bring it on i'm just having a look at the market now you got jungle johnny the boys reckon he's complete unders there in the million dollar chase he's at six dogs we know he can run quick and he's broken 29 um but he's got to be able to do that against the quality of dogs that he might be competing in or that he will be competing in in the million dollar chase semi-finals consiglia at 13 to one a star at 13 and off the chart they're giving a good push the other victorian they're at 15 dollars so bring it on mate how do we get a ticket how do we go about getting a ticket for the million dollar chase

Look, I don't know how many of these could beat Sabage. That's what he did second up last prep. Back to Flemington 1400, back to dry ground. That first up run was the definition of a non-event. Imagine everything possible could go against one horse, write them all down, and they all happened. So, you know, wet track, bias, wide, tempo. Yeah, you got four for four. Anyway, I think he can bounce back. I think he should be half that price.

And everyone goes to me, Gareth, like, how do you go hosting Giddy Up and getting all of these tips? And I say I just bloody love it. And sometimes, like, you learn throughout the journey that, well, hopefully you learn. Sometimes I don't. But J.D. Hayes, Cafe Millennium, if he didn't talk you into having something each way on the road. Cafe Millennium. And then hearing your thoughts there, Gator, he has to be a player. You'd have your five each way on him, don't you, at $13 with Mark Zara aboard.
Speaker 16Yeah, no, it's a good, pretty handy pilot for sure. But I think the other key to the race is there actually is good speed in it. You know, that's what we thought last time. But anyway, Al Ducas at four wide off speed. They took a sit on a few. I think they all scared each other out of it and advanced by lead in one. Yeah. That's your best chance of winning. I also think it's fast appeals. So I think there'd be enough speed for him. And what we'll know by race six is how the track's playing. If it's on pace inside, obviously Cafe Millennium's got a problem.
Speaker 6Yeah.
Speaker 16If it's a level playing for even run-ons, I think he's massive overs, mate.
Speaker 2The Archer Stakes, it's D-Day for a few of them, most of these horses in a way, because you go, hey, it's preliminary final weekend for these horses. Yeah. Like, if you win this, you're in the big dance, aren't you? The great race, the Lexus Melbourne Cup. But you've found a real D-Day. You've found a real D-Day horse in this race.
Speaker 16Yeah, I think you're right. And it was an easy race to land on for a D-Day. And I think Shoglitz, we all think, is well above average. I mean, you need to be, you know, to even get into a Melbourne Cup. And you hear trainers say all the time, well, try and qualify one. Tell me it's easy to get into. So she gets the blinkers on. She gets the senior rider up. And a little weight swing on some key rivals here. She's only been to 2,500 twice. She's won them both. Look, they all come through the same race, most of these. And I thought she ran as well as any in it. And just maybe on that upward spiral, we know the stable, when they do this blinker thing with their stairs, it can have a significant impact. So, look, I'm hopeful slash confident she'll run really, really well. But it's time to stand up. If you want to be a player, you know, a top 10 hope in the big race.
Speaker 2That's Shoglitz. So that's race five, number six, the D-Day horse there for Gator. Highlight race, of course, is the group one. And it's the Maccabi Diva Stakes. She's alibis the $1.65 favourite there with bet $3.65. Sir Dilius at $4.80. Can Mr. Brightside make it four straight Maccabi Divas? He's $11. Treasure of the moment, $11. Autumn boy, $19. Birdman, $23. Half yours, the Melbourne Cup champ. He's back at Flemington for the first time since that magical day on that first Tuesday in November. He's at $41. Light infantry. And 40-1 Buckaroo at 5. 40-1, another wheel at $71, and she's a hustler. He's the 100-1 chance in that group one. Is there any danger to this mare?
Speaker 16Oh, look at the horse race. Yeah, and Sir Delius is the one-time Melbourne Cup and Cox Plate favourite, so he's no slouch by any stretch of the imagination. So, look, it's not a lay-up, but she's not a $1.05 either. So, the speed will be interesting. I'd imagine it's probably Mr Brightside with, you know, others. We saw this movie last year, didn't we?
Speaker 2We did.
Speaker 16Others taking a sit, you know. So, I think Treasure of the Moment goes forward without wanting to lead same line infantryman and even Sir Delius. She's a hustler's the other one. So, yeah, I think there's enough tempo to make it at least, you know, a race.
Speaker 2Yeah. Poor old Mr Brightside luck. If you're talking tactics and... Trying to analyse how does Brightside win this race. Now, if he gets the run that he did last year, he's going to be hard to beat. But, unfortunately, his major competitor is Sir Delius, or one of them anyway, and Craig Williams knows him pretty well. And so, I don't think he will allow Mr Brightside to get away with the sectionals he did because he knows if that happens, then there'll be no running down the old champ.
Speaker 16Yeah, look, I think that that's all a fair comment. I mean, he doesn't need to be the star he is to get away with that lead and run really well, does he? So, but when you give him that as well, you pretty much give him the race. That's what happened last year. So, I'm expecting a different story.
Speaker 2And light infantryman has been involved in some really good victories at high tempos, but I reckon he's a better horse when he's chasing a hot tempo, like when he's on the back of Pride of Jenny in their running times. And leading, I don't know if that's his go, really. He gets an inside gate, which is a tough gate for him because he can miss the kick from time to time as well. So, tactics will be interesting anyway in the Maccabi Diva, but gate is keen on she's alibi. And then we go to the night watchman, and I think we're heading to Sydney this weekend.
Speaker 16Yeah, so obviously still waiting on a couple of dual acceptors. But race 10 at Rose Hill, I'm going with Sovereign Hill. So, obviously, if you give her on first up, full wide inside, track, had Patton Moore on side last time and had a good run, but liked the late strength. Runner-up from that race came in one last week. So, gets a bit of weight relief too. So, that's second. I mean, had some strength in it with 60 kilos. And it's a race with some quiz. So, race 10, number five, Sovereign Hill. Hopefully, can go out and knock us a quick hundred.

We'll sit behind the speed and Spootplate has very good Athelwolf form. And I want to get your thoughts on Plaintiff's Trial from Rose Hill ahead of race seven. That's from Barplates. Good on you, Barplates.
Speaker 16Yeah, I think Gator's Trial is probably one of the best for that. It was certainly my best in Sydney. Like the King of the Seafoam. Like the Athelwolf. The Athelwolf form. Somehow gets in with 52 here. So, yeah, pretty keen there. The other one was Plaintiff, who I'm convinced is a really good mare. The challenge for her is I don't have strong – look, I'm hopeful more than confident we get a level playing field. If we do, I think she's in this race. I think she's a proper horse. If she gets back and tries to swoop and it's an on-pace inside track, she needs to be Divine Madonna. She needs to be. She just panels better than them. And I don't think she's that. But to answer the question, the trials were really, really good in my humble. Just a question. What are you eating there, Gator? Is it nice? Yeah, no. So I've got some fruit toast here. I'm trying to – and I've got one of those high-protein iced coffee. I'm off to the watch party soon. I'm trying to cram everything into your hour to get to this NFL watch party. But I'm too focused on – Well, it's an NFL game, really. So I don't really have to mix too much with humans. But it should be good.

But a really good, strong win. So some good results, some close seconds yesterday. Could have been a better day.
Speaker 2And that's what our listener said. He said, what a lovely ride by Frosty. When you do the form, Gator, do you factor in who's riding? And do you have a favourite jockey? We nearly get this question, I reckon, every week. Which one? I love asking you because you always sit on the fence. You don't want to upset anyone.
Speaker 16I protest that. I can't use the whip rule anymore, which is a win. But I – No, so absolutely, it's a factor.
Speaker 6Yeah.
Speaker 16But it's just not the first thing I look at, okay? I think some riders have a great rapport with their athletes as well. I think that's more important. Or, you know, sometimes you get a significant jockey change to, you know, maybe a three-killer apprentice to an MZARA or a D-Lane. That can make a difference as well. So little things like that, I find, are more helpful than just, you know, blanket finishing – blanket rules about favourite riders.

Speaker 16Well, he gets back to Flemington and gets back onto a dry track for the first time since he smashed the clock on debut. So he's either a really, really good dry tracker and an average wet tracker or the debut win – I don't know if you can fluke. You can't fluke that sort of time. You've got to be good to run it, right? And whether a few others have caught up with him remains to be seen. But he's in the mix.

If I'm rating them 1 to 5 to 6 to 7, I've got a rough idea in my head price-wise. So more time, a bit more smarter time-wise and for no greater result in my humble.

Speaker 16I tipped him to beat Niko Frod, and he just... He didn't look comfortable in the ground to me. So, I'm glad to hear that that's been backed up. He's run prior to that. You know, he is wide, and, you know, if he has a more economical run, he might have tested St George. St George is the horse that beat all of these last time. So, it's very easy to make a case in.

Lady Shenandoah, I just kept trying to find one to beat her, but I kept coming back to the... when I saw the gate, right? Given what I expect... how I expect the track to play, but I just kept coming back to her and can't believe it. I can't believe it. I can't believe it. I can't believe, you know, $7.50 to find out, you know, she's the one with all the A-plus form. So, I'm happy to come back with her, take a few in the quaddie for insurance.

Speaker 16Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's a fair call. I think if she drew gate one here, she'd be one of the bets of the day, but also a strong D-Day contender.

Speaker 16Yeah, certainly a forgive pile first up. So, way below her best, pulled up lame, struggled well prior to that, you know, she beat Apocalyptic, you know, last prep. So, expecting much better there.

The race was dominated closer to the inside. Third Horse Confederation wasn't far off key rival Unit 5 here last start. So, the form's easily intertwined.
Speaker 2And also, of course, Liam is keen on Lady Shenandoah. So, there's a few keen on Lady Shenandoah there tomorrow, despite the gate. Hey, Gator, would like to know your thoughts on something's burning in race. Two at Flemington. Tough watch last start, to say the least. Yes, Murph. Yes. Thanks for reminding us all.
Speaker 16Yeah. I tipped the winner, but the first thing I said was, I'll take it, but it shouldn't have worn. I'm happy to sook when I get beat. Don't worry. But I think something's burning should have worn. And the win prior to that over Zambales clearly ties in. So, look, I had real trouble splitting these two. Unit 5 and something's burning. You know, I'm only allowed to have one on top. However, I'm happy to back them both and play some Cornell. Which will include big wicks and diameter.
Speaker 2Hi, Gareth and Gator. My favourite time of the week. Can you get Gator to run through the Scirocco stakes for us? Thoughts on all these horses' chances. That's from Brett from Bull Creek. All right, then. Favourite Lazura first up. Is she a first-up horse, Gator?
Speaker 16Look, she's a nice, quiet trial. She's a good fresh mare. Yeah, she was beaten at Long Odds on first up last time in, but she gave a handy one and since sold three kilos and was just out-toughed a bit. So, fourth top-rated runner. Sleeping woman. Resumes always trials well and has done exactly that again. She's dynamite at the trial. Looks the leader here. So, her and Savvy Halley probably sit one-two. And if it's mad leaders, she comes right into it. On a level playing field, I don't want anything to do with 390. Yes. Apocalyptic and gangster granny? Apocalyptic, well, I thought it was terrific first up. You know, social media lit up saying she's a fraud and got your money again, yawn.
Speaker 6Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 16She was the best run in the race, in my humble. Wasn't given much hope. The trials prior were excellent. Now she doors gate one. Ah, hello. So, she's second top-rated runner. Gangster granny wanted to see more first up. So, she's now in that second layer of chances.
Speaker 2Gators, Scott wants to know, who is your tip in the Bobby Lewis? This is the race dominated by one of the most exciting gallopers in the country. Live another day.
Speaker 16Yeah, so, I think he deserves to be favourite. I mean, I think... Many of us believe he's a group one winner in weighting. He has a good test on his hand here because the straight track on dry ground, little unknowns to him. So, you know, let's see. But you don't get any price to find out. But I think he deserves to be favourite. So, I'm happy to have him on top, but also happy to take some insurance in the wider quaddie.
Speaker 2Alright, who would you take in that wider quaddie then for insurance? Lewis.
Speaker 16Lewis Sunwindmore is absolutely flying and gets back to the straight. King of Brussaux is criminally underrated. Recon. And to a lesser extent, both De Bergerac and Royal Insignia can make cases for. The latter, drier, the better.
Speaker 2What is David like in race four at Melbourne? That's from Mug Punter. That's the Poseidon stakes for the three-year-old boys down that straight. And Boubet is the favourite. Bet 3.65, 3.40. Jesus, a good push from Ben. He's bullish about Paradoxium at 3.80. Michael Kent Jr. said, don't worry about that trial with Big Sky. He's ready to rumble at $5. But in saying that, he's had a long time off. So, he might get tied the last hundred. Steel Will brings the New South Wales form lines for C. Waller at $7.50. Hard Kick gets on top of the ground at $8.50. And then double figures for the rest here, Gator.
Speaker 16Yeah, tough race. Could have easily been the D-Day race because there's just so many. There's just so much unknown. So many unknowns anyway. I've gone with Paradoxium. I'm liking the way he's trialling. That Toddman stakes win, beating Stretton Ruler, who was coming off a big win in Wolf Gaps. Pretty easy to like. So, I'm happy that way. I'm scared of Mug Punter, who actually trialled with Big Sky. He's quick and better than Big Sky. But then Big Sky ran straight past him after the line. So, I'm not sure what to make of all of that. Hard Kick will be fourth top rated.
Speaker 2Yeah. Michael Kent Jr. explained that. Trialled from Big Sky. Like, I think they wanted to lead. It didn't quite work out. And then he tried to ease him back and teach him to get some cover. And then he let him go again. And that's when he went past them after the line. So, he was happy with the trials. Because when you look at it, you think, well, this horse isn't going much good. Would that like? And then you see it after the line and then you hear what Michael Kent Jr. says and you think, well, he's going okay.

Speaker 16Look, I really like him as a horse. He's second pick in this race in my humble. He won well on debut. He beat a horse called Tenenbaum who's in this race. And then a couple of really good runs at Eagle Farm chasing a pretty smart one we think in Tron Bolt. Trialing super.
Speaker 2Second pick. I know you along have got a big opinion on Genesis Runner and Stormy Marco he's just, he's racing Patton Hurts him. Who knows what he'll do when he comes back this time around but that run in the JJ Atkins, I thought he would settle a lot closer that day with Nash aboard and he was way out of his ground. You give her a chance because of the draw mainly and the pattern that you

He won an Oristar here last year and then beat last year's winner of that race, Boomtown Boss who then beat Royal Insignia who's in this race. So, really easy to make a case on the number front. Hi

Speaker 16Yeah, look, he and something's burning, oscillated between top pick and I've just come back to Unit 5 narrowly as a top pick. I think he was the best one in the race last time. The well-backed American Eagle saved a lot more ground than him with a kilo less on a day yet. It was much better to be nearer that rail. So, I think he was the best one in the race. I beat third clearly. So, Unit 5 narrowly over something's burning. But as I said earlier, happy to back them both and maybe play some exotics. Yeah, Unit 5

I see she's at Rose Hill at the moment. So she draws well in an Underwood. She'll be at Caulfield next week. If she doesn't, she'll take on her stable-made Autumn Glow in the seventh stake. So that's the news on Eliana, who I think everybody's looking forward to seeing her return to the racetrack after that performance first up in the Wink Stakes there, Gator.
Speaker 16Yeah, for sure. I think she's down for an exhibition gallop tomorrow at Rose Hill.
Speaker 2Yep. Thanks for that, Gator. How will the track play out at Flemington on Saturday? Previous rail out 10 metres, back to the true. Good fall. Will it favour inside or outside barriers for the group to let to lope? And how do you see the race unfold? I'm a massive fan of Salty Pearl. Can she win a group one this spring? There's a few questions there from Rob.
Speaker 16Yeah, so we've touched on most of them, but I think the track will play really well. I think where we have issues at Flemington when we get strong winds, you know, there's protected ground inside, but history says, you know, eight times out of ten, I think the track plays really well. Salty Pearl, I think she's really competitive here. She's third pick for me and strongly in the mix. And the Maccabi Deva looks, you know, I don't think they'll crawl like they did last year, but I'm not expecting a fearsome tempo. But certainly hoping level playing for your best horse win.
Speaker 2Yeah. All right, then. The Captain Tebes at Flemington. What's Gator's thoughts there for the three-year-old fillies down the straight now? Just having a look at the market here with Bet365. You got overexcited that was impressive on DeBoo at 420. Barbara, they tell him he's come back enormous drysand at 550. So Toto Glow's already a winner down the straight. The Sydney filly for Johnny O'Shea at 550. Lucky Brook 8. Calamari ring at $11. That's beaten Stryzant down the straight. And then Gin Twist at $11. Scintillation at $13. And then Riverina Lulu that won nicely down the straight on DeBoo.

Speaker 2Sorry, who do you think will win the Captain Tebes tomorrow or Saturday?
Speaker 16Not an easy race, is it? Nor is your etymological prowess. However, Stryzant, look, I think I'm happy to default to her. She's got the most runs on the board out of these. The obvious query is not all these two-year-olds come back. We saw Guesthouse do it. We've seen a number of them do it. Pembrey, Chilly Girl, Blue Door. So she's trialling well enough. Happily on top despite the 59.5. So Toto Glow, the danger. Certainly trialling really well. Should be unbeaten. And overexcited is genuinely exciting. And you can tie the form in a little bit through a horse. She beat Ice Lady who had form around wonderful. Sky. So 1-2-14 the order there.

Speaker 16Look, maybe a dry track will help. Debut win was good. Last run, fair.
Speaker 2We've touched on Stryzant a little bit. But it'll be interesting to see what they do with Stryzant going forward. And if she does come back Gator. I've loved her trials.
Speaker 16Yeah, no, she's trialling really well. So Toto Glow, no doubt. Desperately unlucky in a Percy site. Stryzant's trials have been really good as well. So no knock at all.
Speaker 2Thoughts on Athelflade at Rose Hill Race 4. Brother to Athel Wolf. Trained by the same trainer. Has trialled very nicely. Very lightly raced. Six-year-old. Could be a promising stayer. Well, we had a chat to Matty Smith about a week ago. And he did tell me that this is the best stay he's ever put a saddle on. Obviously, that Gallop has had its injuries over time. But at his best, or at her best, Matty Smith reckons she could be a Cups horse.
Speaker 16Yeah, I think she's extremely talented. You know, I just hope they can hold her together. Obviously, a long break here. But she won a Canberra Cup off a long break in April. But she won it brilliant. It wasn't a Cup, but it won at Canberra. I think she's trialling well. It's just not easy to do, is it? First off, what are you hearing a bit?
Speaker 2A Mr. Brightside 10-1. Angela said, sensational second up in a 1,600-metre record. Christmas. There you go. It'd be great if he wins. It'll be a terrific racing story, Gator, if he wins.

Speaker 2How do you think the Rams will play? You're an athlete and you love, like, studying athletes and obviously their preparation. How do you think they'll go just arriving in Melbourne this morning?
Speaker 16Look, who am I to second guess? Some of the best sports science people in the world. But I cannot for the life of me think that's the right way to go. So, yeah, so the 49ers, you need about seven days to acclimatise is the general rule. Everyone's different. Seven to eight days minimum. If you're inside that window, you might as well get there as late as you can, as you want. So that's what, they've clearly gone with plan B. They've got to cross seven time zones, go from summer to winter, or spring, and perform at 10.35 in the morning when they normally play at night. So I have grave concerns about how they'll perform.
Speaker 2If they're a horse, you wouldn't want to back them, would you, with that preparation?
Speaker 16Yeah, it'd be one of those when they let, you know, let's see, let's see El Riffa run first.
Speaker 2Yeah, and then do you know what? They'll win by 10 lengths and you think, well.
Speaker 16And then they're a better, yeah, pound for pound, they're a better team. But I think the preparation, but again,
Speaker 2who am I to second guess everyone? And Gator, Gator's next triathlon, he'll be turning up. He'll fly around the world 17 hours just to come back to get the similar prep. Speaker 16Look, she's obviously flying for the stable. I don't think a dry track can be a real concern. We know she's probably a length better wetter, but she's going well, fit, flying, comes back from weight for age to mare's grade. So she's competitive. I would have had her a bit longer in the market, but she's in the mix.
Speaker 2Does Gator rate the Vic Hustler Syndicate Horse Regal Ambitions win at Sandown yesterday? Does he consider it a genuine 1000 contender? That's from Danny.
Speaker 16Yeah, good win. Flash horse, you know, overcame a tardy start. I mean, probably beat a handy one as well. And I've been studying the times, yes, but the win to the eye at start number two was very good.

Speaker 16Must have a case. You know, she comes through a lot of these, same as Key Roberts has been closer to Guesthouse than all the others and will be on speed.

Speaker 16I agree with all of that. If Drew Gator wanted to be one of the bets of the day, but from that draw, there are challenges.

So I don't think there's too much between those two colts. Zach Lloyd gets a low gate with Central Europe. I think he'll be mighty hard to beat, but time will tell. It's based on opinions. You could be right, you could be wrong. Hopefully I'm right. At $6.50, he's a great each-way play. As we continue on, the Spring Carnival in the middle part of September. So Dino's not far away. I wonder what the Mega Boost horse will be tomorrow. If you had a choice of a Mega Boost horse and you could go and ask Zach Tunbridge from Bet365, what horse would you want? Would it be a Live Another Day? Appeared? We'll start off with number five, which is Laxar for the Waterhouse and Bot Camp.
Speaker 19Yep. Usain, three-year-old Colt G, had his first trial the other day there at Randwick, over 742 metres. Ideally, he has a second trial this week or next, but that trial was really impressive and ties in through Crescent King, which will come a little bit further up the order of the list this week. But Laxar goes in the black book this week, G.
Speaker 2You're right. Then what about Lax? Number four, this one for Chris Waller.
Speaker 19Chris Waller, James Donovan, the saddle, has had two trials this prep. The first was on speed but hard-held. Wild Atlantic took that heat out and has had another trial since when it was really, really quietly ridden in behind. It posts the line, G. It was outstanding through the post. It's a full-to-inviable. I think you know that, Galloper G, wears the green silks, the checkered arms. So we'll wait for that, Galloper, to come back. But Lax, ready to go to the races. L-U-X, and that's the number four for this week.
Speaker 2Bohemia for the Curtis team. B-A-U-H-I-N-I-A is your number three trialler from the week.
Speaker 19Well, probably forgotten horse, G. You go back two preparations. Well, the spring last year, it ran fifth, beating only 1.5 lengths in Invitational behind Geringong and Steffi Magnetica, and there was only 0.3 lengths off Arctic Glamour in the Hot Danish. Go to the autumn, and it just didn't come up at all. Ninth in the Hallmark, and then 10th out of 13 in the Hawkesbury Crown Race. So it's just not come up in the autumn. This trial the other day, though, G, suggests it's back in a really, really nice manner. Ice cool took the heat out, but this mare was down the outside and 200 metres past the post. She was galloping away from arrival. So Lee and Cherie Curtis look to have Bohemia back at the best of the time this year.
Speaker 2Number two is M. Bouba, who is the favourite for the Beside in this weekend at Flemington. Trained by Lloyd Kenowell.
Speaker 19Well, I don't ever venture, I don't think I've ever ventured down to Victoria for my top 5G, but I needed a slot this week. It was a little bit quiet up here in Sydney, so I've done the Poseidon Stakes form and looking at the jumpouts there, I could not be more impressed with M. Bouba. I think the latest jumpout there looked as good, or if not better, than Big Sky, who scrubbed a long, lovely debut win, and has been heavily backed in that Poseidon Stakes market. So I thought it was a good one to include this week. I'm keen on him on the weekend. We'll touch on the weekend preview tomorrow a bit, and Bouba, I think it's a really, really smart three-year-old colt for the Kenowell camp.
Speaker 2And number one is Peter Snowden's Galloper Crescent King.
Speaker 19Yep, really, really impressive horses. Gee, a debut behind our Emperor and a couple of other horses. Lady Invictus there too. Spelled 12 weeks and brought back with back-to-back impressive trials. Three-year-old written tycoon colt. James O'Donnell's been in the saddle for both these trials, gee. So Peter only taps James on the shoulder when he's got one going really, really well. First trial was good behind Laxa, like I mentioned. And the latest was outstanding and really, really fast time point. Two and a half lengths on its rivals there at Rose Hill. So Crescent King ready to go to the races. And we know Peter Snowden, he's an outstanding juvenile trainer. And we'll look for James to stick in the saddle come race day, potentially next Wednesday. Any black bookers for us, Dino? We do have a couple, gee. I'm trying to pull up my notes while we're talking about... And Bouba is obviously the one in the Poseidon Stakes. I want her back on the weekend. I think that horse is going really, really well. It's an interesting horse. It's an interesting one tomorrow at Goulburn Race 1, the local. I think it was number two on our list for Maddie Dale a couple of weeks ago. Gee, that's the one we're looking at. It's a Goulburn Tomorrow race number two there. And outside of that, not a whole lot, gee. Forever is down to David with Kemba Graham as well. That Jennifer Eccles gallop of Bjorn Baker, that's probably another one I'm looking at. So a couple, but we might touch on on the weekend preview tomorrow.

Speaker 2Beautiful, mate. I'm glad that you're enjoying the sun there in Dalesford. What about your top five trialers? We'll start off with Lindsay Park's horse, Bacash.
Speaker 20Yeah, Bacash went round at, sorry, I was going to say Flemington, but he went round at Packetham on Tuesday. He's seen a good level of form through his career and returned nicely in that jump out on Tuesday. He was a good scorer, solid opposition there. Jumped well, moved smoothly to the lead, hit the line clear under a straight and full of running. Only narrowly beaten when first up in the autumn and he should be hard to beat to get in the right contest this time round. He had Ray Magnerio and a couple of other nice goalkeepers in his wake there and probably needs one more before he's returned in three and a quarter weeks.
Speaker 2Another one for Team Hayes. Esmali is your number four trialer.
Speaker 20Yeah, the four-year-old mayor, Esmali, has returned to training after a six-month layoff and looks to be in the same sort of form that's seen her win three out of five so far. First time out three weeks ago, she was all over it before being eased late in the second place. On Friday, was happy to sit four out and take a lead early before breezing up under her own steam to take the heat in spite of being switched off and eased late. She looks ready to go now and will be very hard to beat when returning.
Speaker 2Dino found Crescent King as well for Peter Snowden. James McDonald's been riding this gal for a while now. He is your number three trialer.
Speaker 20Yeah, I think the J-Mac booking for both trials has caught everyone's eye. No surprise that the maiden gal for Crescent King has given plenty of time to develop given his size and immaturity when seen on debut in May the 20th. Had a good education with two solid runs on wet ground which may not have really suited but they probably just wanted to get that under his belt for education purposes. Returned around two days ago with a good run and allowed an easy time by J-Mac for a close second. Also allowed to do much more but displayed solid natural improvement on Tuesday with a little tap on the shoulder was all the stimulation that was right to pull clear. Much more than finished article this time around and looks set to return with a strong showing in maiden grade.

Speaker 20yes and a shout out to the boys in uh castle main at the butcher shop there yeah um they've got a share in jimmy um high quality gallop uh jimmy ricard is a lovely race and hasn't been seen since the cool more last november we're a respectable four and three quarter weeks behind ted tyrus and my gladiola uh had his problems since i know he's got some uh foot all the problems um they've been resolved now and uh judging on his return at work farm last week everything seems to be going the right way he settled nicely three to four off the lead um from an inside draw he was given a little rein in the straight and shut down when closing smoothly on the two leaders late it was a very very nice trial from jimmy and uh it's an excellent only gambit for this campaign if he stays sound he's going to be a big player in some of the different leagues and he's going to be a big player in some of the different leagues and he's going to be a big player in some of the different leagues and he's going to be a big player in some of the different leagues and spring races particularly on ground with little give i think okay and your number one

Speaker 18tested him in better company a little bit earlier um he's he's just a little bit raw there at his first run and there's a tight turning track and he just got a little bit lost there so that's why i wanted to give him a little bit more confidence building sort of run which i think he was able to get there last start at kembla grange but you know i do think he's in a better class than the races we've started in um just that haven't really had too many options for him at this point so he's going to keep getting better as he gets over further um yeah there's still some improvement to come but there's certainly some quality there would it surprise you if he won no i wouldn't he's down there in terrific order and you know he's got a lot of experience and he's got a lot of he he beats some sort of handy horses there and some more seasoned horses and he's a horse that's

Speaker 18ming dynasty the only thing i would sort of split them on is that i'm your huckleberry probably better suited at the 1400 meters at this point i think savagram will appreciate getting out a bit deeper into the preparation so he's potentially on a spring champion path and once he gets to that trip at this class that's where he's going to be the most effective he probably just showed that last last start sort of favorite in the up and coming but it's that little bit sharp for him still at the 1300 can you win a run to the rose yeah well that horse plagiarism i just sort of mentioned um in in the up and coming he's dropping back to the 1200 so he's sort of fit and ready to rock and roll and can run a you know make it a nice testing run to the rose um yeah so that may well work into his favor on the day revengeance i'd be forgiving of him first up he sat outside a a bit of pressure there um first up off a long layoff and i think that just told uh i think he can be forgiven he'll be better suited second up for us and can sovereign he'll win the last very good win their last start i was surprised me how well he sprinted i thought he may have been looking for a little bit further now at this point of the prep that would be the only thing that i could have done at the 1200 but um yeah there's a lot to like about that win last up

He says both Sass Appeal and Gold Coast Bell. They're ready to run big races. Michael Kent Jr.'s bullish on Space Rider, but he's $100 staking plan. He says have 50 on Big Sky in race four, the Poseidon Stakes, and also Think Giant in the Archer Stakes as well. And we got a report back from Tom Dabinick with Live Another Day. Looks like he's not going to go to the Everest. They've had a few offers, but he'll be hard to beat in a Bobby Lewis, and then he'll go to the Manicato after that. And J.D. Speaker 22Yeah, definitely. Yeah, the race was run to suit him on Saturday, and it was, yeah, just good to see him be able to finish that race off and, yeah, string a few wins together this season.
Speaker 2Yeah, were you confident in the run?
Speaker 22Not until that last turn when we got past... a couple really fast, and we sort of found ourself on Luke's back really quickly. It sort of gives me a boost of confidence once we found his back as quick as we did.
Speaker 2Did you get to the bottom of him there on Saturday? It looks like he won with plenty in hand.
Speaker 22He's definitely a funny horse. You know, he still had the deafness in on Saturday night, but I think that if you don't keep him at his job, he can switch off, and he only does what he has to. But, yeah, if the right run come on Saturday and he was close enough to him, I think he can do the same.
Speaker 2How exciting is he aiming?
Speaker 22You know, we've always had an opinion that he's got really high speed here at home, and it was a difficult two-year-old career for him to start off in the Vic Breds last season, and it's just... It's just good to have him back now as a three-year-old and showing everybody else what he can do.
Speaker 2And obviously you're the boss now, so Mandy Craven doesn't get to drive these good horses, Amy.
Speaker 22No, I wouldn't say that. I think Ollie's the boss, but...
Speaker 2Yes. How is Ollie, your son?
Speaker 22He's running the show, telling us what we're doing right and wrong now. Yeah, it's terrific just being parents and having him involved. But, yeah, he definitely runs the show.
Speaker 2And how does this race pan out in your eyes there on Saturday? Because you've got a couple of the big guns from the Stewart camp drawn inside of you.
Speaker 22It looks maybe a little bit tricky to map out, and it definitely depends on what their runners decide to do. We just have to drive for the race as it pans out, and hopefully we can just come out quick enough to get in the running line and just start it up from there.
Speaker 2Who's the horse to beat?
Speaker 22It's a tough question because I think the Stewart camp do hold major key in the race, and it just... Their horses are flying as well. The two horses drawn inside me were flying, and also Cardigan Dan ran a really quick last half last week as well. So, yeah, it's really hard to put down just one horse because I think it's whoever gets the right run.
Speaker 2Adelaide Red, has had success at VicBred level before. Can she win the three-year-old fillies final?
Speaker 22It's a tricky little race. It looks like a really even final, and I think whoever gets the right run would win that race.
Speaker 2Yeah. Can you get the right run?
Speaker 22She does fly the arm, and she's been really happy this week.
Speaker 2Straight at the front. Straight at the front, Amy. Would you hand up?
Speaker 22If we can get there and get to the fence first, yeah, it'll play a major role if we can get to the fence. But, yeah, that's a major if, I guess.
Speaker 2Who do you have to... Obviously, the horse is inside of you. Who's your biggest danger to hold you out? James Herbertson, you got him covered?
Speaker 22She's a progressive filly, and she's done a super job, that filly.
Speaker 2Queen of Cs.
Speaker 22Yep. And she's obviously bred to just keep getting better also, and Tina's filly is just low-flying at the minute also. Yeah. And we spent a lot of tickets in the heat to try and get to the fence in front of her last week. So, yeah, it's going to be tricky, and hopefully our little filly's got her game face on. And if she does find the fence, you know, she can get a similar run to what she did in the Breeders' Crown last year, like, they'll know that she's there.
Speaker 2We've seen Matty Craven drive on numerous occasions. If he's giving you any advice, he'd be telling you just to let her rip at the start and lead at all costs.
Speaker 22Yeah, he's given me those instructions a couple of times. But, yeah, it's probably why it works as well as what it does with Matty and I. You know, I'm the conservative one, and he's the one that can get the fire in his belly at times.
Speaker 2Now, tell me this, Amy. Obviously, you're from the famous Day family in New South Wales. You enjoying life in the western part of Victoria? It's probably even warmer than Goulburn.
Speaker 22Definitely warmer. I think this morning Goulburn had a minus five frost, and we're enjoying the sunshine. But, you know, this winter, I think, has been one where I've probably missed home, because it's been so wet down here this winter. But, no, definitely enjoying life down here. Like, there's nothing that you wouldn't enjoy. You know, Matty's family's been terrific in just welcoming me down here and helping out heaps with Matty and I with Ollie. So, there's nothing not to enjoy.
Speaker 2Go and get them, and it'll be a lot more enjoyable if you can win a couple of group ones there on Saturday. Who would be the better chance, Neuro? Guys, before we let you go?

This dog's got a good record off an inside draw. 12 starts, one win, five minor placings. It's not a prolific winner, but its run four starts ago was really strong. I think it maps really good here. Just a really good each-way value play. So, race two, number one, federal blonde is the first of my plays, G-Man.

Speaker 23Yeah, that'll kick the night off beautifully. Race six, number one, Roma keeping. It's been good numerically. Without winning in its last couple, but I think it draws beautifully here. Gets a really nice map. It's a dog that loves drawing an inside box and should lead ping and lead. So, Roma keeping on the drift. I think it's out to around $2.40, $2.50, but I think this dog's ready to win one. And I love the move back from Q1 to Q2. So, race six, number one, Roma keeping.

Speaker 23The next one I've got is a dog that's in good form. I had it as a best last week. It's saluted. Race eight, number two, Tuckaroo Road. It's won three on the bounce. There's a good one in this, Dalgety. It actually beat our dog that we had as a best bet last week. It's a New Zealand type. It trialed really well. It raced brilliantly, but off a wide draw, I don't know about it. So, I'm happy to be with race eight, number two here, Tuckaroo Road. Got great early speed, learning the two-turn caper really well. Improves run by run time-wise. And I think around $3.50 is an absolute bargain, to be honest. So, race eight, number two, Tuckaroo Road.

Speaker 23And we rounded out with the best bet on the program. In the lucky last. Race 11, number three, Oliver Go. It's been well-supported. It's run second in three of its last four starts. But the big thing here, it races against an inexperienced greyhound in Nangar Rookie, who is fast. It's got a dog drawn outside at Zipping Alcaraz, who's not quick, and a dog inside who's not quick early. So, the two will lead. The three will sit on it and mow it down. The small field is absolutely perfect. Race 11, number three, Oliver Go. And if it gets beat G as the best of the night, I'm happy to cop one next week when I come back on.

Speaker 24Yes, I do, mate. I'll start off with Sandown. There was one that we mentioned yesterday on our weekly chase show that we're keen on race two, number two, Mi Amigo Diablo. This is that race, Gareth, where you qualify at sail and then the final is run at Sandown. This greyhound comes from that series with Ruiz. Really good form at Sandown. He's won four races there from his five career wins and was shopping around the $2.50 mark, which I think is certainly more than fair. So race two, number two, Mi Amigo Diablo to start and Cheeky Chompers was the other one we mentioned yesterday. Look, he can be a little bit hit or miss in terms of his form, but race nine, number two, his win there four starts ago was excellent at around 29.30, so good speed too and that's the key to him. Just needs to be left alone early just to get out on the bunny and if he can do that, He'll be tough to beat. Q2. Yeah, keen on Roma keeping as well. Race six, number one. Speaker 25Yeah, super. I'm enjoying every moment of it, actually. We're based in Gawler. It's so ideal to work the horses. The track's just over my back fence, and yeah, it's all working out really well.
Speaker 2Sure, are you missing Albany?
Speaker 25Oh, always. You know, that's home for me, and the weather there is just second to none for training horses. And yeah, I definitely miss it.
Speaker 2Yeah. So we get to see your star, Smoochino, back at the races. He goes around the Wiley Handicap, which is a listed race over the 1,100 metres. How has he enjoyed his new surroundings there in South Australia?
Speaker 25Yeah, he's fitted in really well. Like, I was a bit worried about training him from a race course, because, you know, he goes to the races, and it's overwhelming for him at the track, and even back in Albany when I took him, to the track to Gallup, you know, he's even sweated up there and stuff. But he has just taken everything in his stride. He's much more relaxed now, and I think it's actually been a good thing for him to be here, yeah.
Speaker 2Do you think he's improved then, Indy?
Speaker 25Definitely mentally, for sure. You know, he's had those just still green moments at the races before. We took him to the trials a couple of weeks ago, and he had a little sweat, but he's still a good guy. But not like he normally does. So hopefully he's, yeah, a changed man.
Speaker 2And Austin's making the trip to Adelaide to ride with 62 on his back. In fact, he was at the trials there as well to ride Smoochino.
Speaker 25Yeah, he flew over, stayed with us for a few days, and rode some track work, and, yeah, got his opinion on a few horses. And he said he'll follow Chino wherever he goes. So he's, yeah, flying in tomorrow. Okay.
Speaker 2Do you think he could make the move as well?
Speaker 25I hope he will. Like, there's a massive opportunity here for someone like Austin. And obviously he can be based here with us. And, you know, Gawler needs sort of a jockey here 24-7. I think he would really kick off over here if he did.
Speaker 2Yeah. Can he carry 62 and win?
Speaker 25Obviously, first up, it's a big ask. It's just his raw ability is going to get him there if he can handle it. But hopefully the track firms up a little bit. So that's on his side too. It's nice sunny days all this week. So, look, he's going good. His work's been good. His fitness levels are good. I don't see why not.
Speaker 2Yeah. It is exciting. So what's the plan with him after that?
Speaker 25It's a hard question to answer this because he's, every single prep I've had him in work, I've never planned his preps. So I've always just gone from how he's done in the paddock when he's ready to come in, how long it takes him to get fit, to the trials, how he is. Like, he is the priority. There's always races, you know. So I'm just going to. You know, we're going to do the weekend, see how he goes, see how he pulls up, and then we'll look. But we'll definitely have to go east, wherever that takes us. I'm not sure yet.
Speaker 2Could you go to a Manicato if he wins nicely?
Speaker 25Yeah, we have looked at that. Obviously, it's a weaker group race. Yeah, if he wins with 62 and if he wins comfortably, I don't see why not. That would be a possibility.
Speaker 2Exciting times. Andy, what about Mr. Popcorn going around in that third race in Adelaide at a price?
Speaker 25Yeah, the big boy. The other day, he raced over 16 at Morfettville, and he just got too strong early and sort of ran his race early. But 16 is always too short for him. So I thought, God, he took forever to pull up. And then he came back to the yard, and he was still going past the finish post the other way, pulling. So I'm like, no, we just need. We just need to step him up to 25 where he's comfortable, and he's done a lot of work behind the scenes. So, you know, he will be the last one standing if everyone's tired coming up the straight, that's for sure.
Speaker 2If I gave you $100 this weekend, Indy, what would you do with it?
Speaker 25I would put definitely 50 on Popcorn.
Speaker 6Okay.
Speaker 25Probably like 25 each way. I think he's been working super. But Chino's actually paying quite a bit, I thought, $390 or something like that. Yeah, I'd definitely put probably the rest on him.
Speaker 2Beautiful. So race three, number four, Mr. Popcorn. And then on the star, 50, the win straight out on race seven, number one, Spoo Chino, with a man with a unique riding style that I love, Austin Gallardi. Speaker 17Yeah, a bit of rain around. It doesn't obviously handle the rain that well at Kalgoorlie. A few comments from jockeys said that it's not that good underfoot, so hopefully it improves by the time that the saddle rolls around, and we'll make a decision which horses we take up there.
Speaker 2Yeah. If you've got a really good one, you'd have to make sure the ground would be okay, wouldn't you?
Speaker 17Yeah, well, I wouldn't be taking any top liners there myself after the weekend, but all it takes is a bit of sunshine and some love and care, and it should be pretty good to go, I'd hope.

Speaker 2Yeah, what about Boy Crush? Very good first up. Can he win again?
Speaker 17He was very good. Barry is not ideal Saturday, but I feel as though he's the class runner in the field, Adam's horse looks like it's got ability, but potentially might need a little bit further, so he should be able to get across the field and make his own luck in running, and hopefully if he sort of comes through that last run well, which we think he has, he should be competitive again. And the Coppola Stakes is the feature. Rissoles was very good the other day. Yeah, she was really good. There wasn't big numbers in the nomination, so we threw one in, and she was going to trial on the Monday, so we give her a spin around and thankfully bought a check home, and 1,200 is more up her alley. I think it's a nice race for her if Willie goes on. So that's always a positive, and she's been good in between runs. So hopefully she can put a nice run together. She's won at stakes grade and beat some nice horses. So hopefully she can do the same come Saturday. What about Hedderwood later on in the day? Like him a lot, actually. I think he's a very good chance. He's drawn ordinary, but there's plenty of speed in the race. And if you rule out his last run where he got caught four and five deep, the start before he got held up terribly and should have won. So he's probably one that I reckon might slide under people's radar and think he can run a big race.
Speaker 2I love it. If I gave you $100, what would you do with it on Saturday?
Speaker 17I'd have backed the long shot one, mate. I'd be having something each way on Hedderwood. Yeah, I think he's a really good chance. Hopefully it plays out that way. 50 each way, that'll do us nicely. Anything at Northern? Got a couple in at Northern. Run Rupert runs a nice horse. Hopefully he can. He's won a mine run, Rupert run. Yes, he should be able to bounce back from a disappointing run the other day. And just yes was very encouraging last Wednesday. So he should be hard to beat as well.

Speaker 2Yes, I will. I'll pick you up from the airport. We'll go straight there. Now, what do you make of this Doobin card? How do you think this track will play?
Speaker 26It should play pretty fair. The weather's been okay this week. Not as warm as it was last week. So maybe a shower about. They're tipping maybe 9 mil, 0 to 9. So they're keeping the powder dry there, the Bureau of Meteorology. Nothing so far. It's all been all coastal. So we'll see what happens over the next couple of days. But I wouldn't think if we got any, it'd be, well, if we got much at all, it'd make much difference to the track. So I think we'll have a pretty good surface there come Saturday. Big fields, lots of scratching is probably still to come. So we'll see how things go.
Speaker 2Where do we start with your plays then, mate?
Speaker 26Race two, horse number two, or number three, number three, Live a Little for Tony Golan and Bella Youngberry. This one's been going really well, as we know. He's had the four runs this preparation. He won the first of them really well at 1,200 metres. Sorry, he ran second at 1,200 metres, having an off day today. And then he won his next one. He went 1,200 to 1,600 at Eagle Farm. He won that well. His last couple over the same trip have been very good. He's busting to get out over 2,000 metres and he finally gets that on Saturday. So I think he's in the right race. As I said, Bella Youngberry will take three off. I think he's very, very hard to beat. Live a Little, race two, number three.
Speaker 2Yes. What else have you raced for us?
Speaker 26Race six, Michael Friedman's mare, number two, Cinder C. Now, she resumes here. She ran some really nice races last prep. She's got Bella Youngberry to ride as well. Now, the trial at Deegan Bow Desert it was recently, she finished close up there behind Spicy Martini, who's since won a trial this week, and Queenstep, who won at the Gold Coast last Saturday. So the format of that trial has been good. She sat out the back. She did a good bit of work late in that trial. First up record's good. She's had three goes for two wins. I think she's a good bet each way. Now, there's a couple in this race obviously hard to beat. Speedtacular is one of them. Dominant Darcy, the other one, both from the Tony Golan stable. But I think if we back Cinder C each way, we will get a return because I can, I'd say she'll be running top three, put it that way.
Speaker 2All right. Love the confidence. Sarah, anything else for us, mate?
Speaker 26Yeah, we'll go with race eight. Horse number eight, Zupa Fund. Now, one for Kieran Marr. Now, Kieran Marr and Joy Williams, they don't combine that often, I think seven times. And they've won four races when they have combined. Now, they do that here. This horse has been going okay without breaking the clock or running really quick sectionals, but he just found a beautiful race come Saturday. Gate number two with the two kilos off, I think he looks well placed to race well. The market's found him as well, unfortunately, but that's the way it goes sometimes. Race eight, number eight. A lot of people like the Zupa Fund.
Speaker 2Let's hope it's a fill up there on Saturday, Chris.
Speaker 26Yeah, let's hope so. I've got a couple of roughies too. Oh, take them away, brother. Got one absolute bolter. Yes. Gold Coast on Saturday. Race six, number 13, Storm Stout. Could start 100 to one, but its form is a lot better than it reads on paper. And the Sunny Coast tomorrow night, first night meeting of the new season. Race eight, number eight, Kowloon Magnate. Scratched from Ipswich yesterday. Gets an extra few hundred metres and that'll suit nicely. So race eight, number eight. Sunny Coast tomorrow night.

Speaker 2What did you make of the end of the Davenport synthetic season there on Wednesday?
Speaker 27It was a bit of a fight back by the bookies, G. Well, a day means anyway. Yeah, good fortnight for punters. Two weeks in succession in Davenport. I think there were about 11 starting price favourites and there were a couple of blowouts there yesterday. Really good day for Chloe Wells. She had three winners, one of them for her dad, Dean, and Bolt Instinct, I think, paid nearly $80 on the best of the three totes. So I think that the main takeout from the stretch of Davenport after the track issues was that the track raced really, really well. The first winner on that, the program yesterday, Glory Mission, who's a really nice horse going forward after a few setbacks, nearly broke the track record over 11.50 that was set a week earlier, or a fortnight earlier, sorry. So Davenport gets a spell now. They're back the week before Christmas for their Sheffield Cup meeting, which is the last one before the Davenport Cup in early 2027.
Speaker 2Now tell me, Matty, and I've had a few people ask me this question in Tassie. It's been a trial Wednesday afternoons over Sundays. So what has it told you? And I think the most important KPI is turnover. Are more people betting on Tassie racing on a Wednesday afternoon than they are on a Sunday?
Speaker 27Yeah, early indicators are a positive, G. We've sort of, most of our sort of August Dana's in now, and I think we, barring that Davenport meeting that we missed there, we've had August as a sample there. And the numbers are up on a Sunday, which is not really surprising, and sort of what we were expecting. So feedback from the industry is pretty positive. I think most trainers and jockeys and stables would rather be heading to the races on a Wednesday and keep the weekends free. Of course, you've got a race where it works best for everyone, but early indicators are positive for the thoroughbreds. And of course, the harness have kind of jumped into that Sunday afternoon slot that's vacated by thoroughbreds. So it's probably going to be something that we'll see more of down here during the wintertime, G. I don't think it'll be Wednesdays over Sundays all the time. And of course, we're about to start our night racing season, but I think sort of maybe May to late August, early September, I think we will see probably some more Wednesday thoroughbred racing next year.
Speaker 2And what are you expecting Wednesday night when you kick off the Launceston night season?
Speaker 27Yeah, it's great to have the night racing season back, and we go a fortnight earlier than we did last year. So 22 meetings. I think we've got 12 of them on Friday nights. There were plenty of horses trialling at Longford on Tuesday. I think we nearly had as many horses trialling on Tuesday as we did at the races on Wednesday. There's plenty of stables itching to not only get back to the grass, but getting back to Launceston. I think it's most stables' favourite track. You get the night racing, and that's our premium slot for wagering. I think the location in Tassie is favourable for most stables too. So look, the program on Wednesday, I think the highest class rated, race of the night is a 68, so I think we'll see some good Good, some good numbers, some nice progressive horses coming back. And it's sort of a marathon, not a sprint as far as the night racing season goes. So if the numbers aren't exploding on Wednesday night, they won't be too far away. But I'd expect them to be very healthy. And it's great to get back under lights after Wednesday night. We've got an AFL Grand Final Eve program on the Friday, which will actually be broadcast on Racing.com as well.
Speaker 2That is sensational. And in the trots, Tammy Langley's flying.
Speaker 27She is, yeah. She had three winners last Sunday, G. I think we're kind of racking our brains here as to whether there's been a female overall premiership winner. And certainly in modern times, there hasn't been. And the premierships down here have been dominated by the Yoles for a long period of time. Tammy's now in a battle with Wayne for that premiership. And she's just got the upper hand. So her team's firing Horatius Speculo, I think we spoke about last week. He was a really impressive winner upon returning. And we're sort of at the pointy end of the season now. We're a little over three months to go. We'll start to come into some of our really, really good races too. So I'd say that Tammy's in the upper hand as far as the premiership battle goes. But I expect it to be neck and neck over the next sort of three and a bit months.

Speaker 2Have you enjoyed it, mate? You do a lot of work for the rat race as well.
Speaker 28Yeah, yeah, loving it. Absolutely wouldn't change for anything else.
Speaker 2Yeah. So how did you get involved in the sport?
Speaker 28My family used to be involved a little while ago. They used to have a stable and a house out at Carrick, which is just 10 minutes out of Launceston. And yeah, we've sort of just grown up with them. And then my dad used to work for Barry back in the day as well. So that's how I sort of got involved.
Speaker 2Yeah. And is this your first drive in Victoria tonight?
Speaker 28Yeah, it will be my first. Yeah.
Speaker 2You're looking forward to it?
Speaker 28Yeah. I couldn't really sit still this morning. I'm over it at the minute. I had to go help Liam Alder out at the Craig Turnbulls. He's worked there today. So I've just gone and helped them this morning.
Speaker 2Yeah, Craig Turnbull. You wouldn't want to help him too much. He stole all your time. He stole all your money, basically.
Speaker 28Yeah, he did. In recent times. Yeah, true.
Speaker 2Yeah. Can you win tonight?
Speaker 28From all reports, from all the trainers and all that sort of thing, yeah. She's definitely going pretty good at home. I was happy with her trial. She needed a good hit out. She normally races better backing up. So everything's well. I think she's in with a good fight.
Speaker 2How do you drive her tonight?
Speaker 28Well, she'll have to come with one run, I reckon. I don't think I'll be putting her into the race too early. And from what I've been asking around here, Kilmore's not a great track. You can come real wide and sort of get home. But, yeah, we'll see how the race is run. I reckon there'll be a bit of tempo on. There's a couple of good types. One of Emma's and Stanley's, they go pretty good. So, yeah, she should be going all right.
Speaker 2And this is actually a heat. For the four-year-old mares as well. So it'd be great to qualify in a way as well.
Speaker 28Yeah, exactly. There's only two weeks. So I think it's top six. Go through. And they race next Saturday night at Melton.
Speaker 2Yeah. And Joshie Duggan trialled her for you there the other day. What did he say?
Speaker 28Yeah, he said he was pretty happy with it. I think she's got a gear change tonight, which might sharpen her up. She sort of last 50 just sort of needed the run. So she's. Sort of didn't finish off as well as we hoped. But now a little gear change tonight, and she should be sharp enough.
Speaker 2Well, you've hit the ground running, mate. 21 victories this season. Are you a better driver or footballer?
Speaker 28Oh, God.
Speaker 2They tell me you're a star. Who do you play for?
Speaker 28I'm not much of a footballer. I love the Testonians.
Speaker 2Yeah. In the, in the ones?
Speaker 28Yeah, in the ones.

Uh, he's got a big weight and although I'm probably not as across the WA form as well as the SA, I didn't think he necessarily stood out as being clearly superior to a few of the other horses in the race. Who are you tipping in that race? Uh, I'm going to go with, uh, my mate, Terry's horse. Watch me win. Okay. Uh, he's got a pretty good record around this track. I think 1100 meters is a, is a good, uh, so I'm just saying g'day to someone. Yeah, g'day mate. Johnny, can I have a selfie, Johnny?

Speaker 29He's got a good record over 1100, 1200 around Morfaville and he, he sort of got himself unstuck at Caulfield last start when he over raced off a slow tempo. Uh, so I, I think there's speed will be pretty good here. Real deluxe. He's got a fast mare and she's got a whitish gait, so I can't see them going slowly. I'd love to watch me win just to sit back and do his own thing. Even if he's last or second last coming to the turn and just see if he can wind up down the outside of them. Uh, he ran a huge race this track and distance during the Adelaide carnival when he carried 60 and he only just missed and I could envisage him doing something similar again here. I've got about a minute left, Johnny, your best comes up in race four. Yeah. Harmonic dancer. I know he certainly hasn't been Hunter's best mates during his racing career. He's been rolled a number of times as a short price. Favorite just fancy. He wasn't handling some heavy tracks during the winter. He had a couple of runs in his previous prep, went awfully and then just got turned out and jumped out quite well leading into his first up run. And I thought he ran a cracking race first up, probably just had to give Daisy do the card into the race and that cost him victory, but they cleared right away from the rest of the field. Thought that was strong form. And I thought if he ran like that, he would almost certainly win this race. And your next, the other one that I'm, I'm, uh, it's probably best. I'm pretty keen to say I'll be hard to beat you sexy thing in race six. I know she had a use of the bias last week, but she won by five lengths and she's on a quick backup.
