Speaker 1show now on giddy up it's time for stable
Speaker 2mail and we kick off giddy up stable mail with the champion trainer chris waller good morning to you chris good morning garrett um were you surprised as a competitor to see cosmic crusader go to a caulfield cup um didn't put any thought into it no he's um he's the favorite now for the caulfield cup and i don't know if you'll go to the cox play but he was good the other day in the turnbull
Speaker 3no he was very good he's a good horse so yeah i just you're that busy worrying about your own horses at the moment um yeah reading the news or listening to your shows it's good to catch up with what's going on the stable mail and i'll see you in the next episode but um yeah they're a pretty good bob peters is a pretty shrewd operator he knows what he's doing
Speaker 2that's for sure geez i love the the performance of aliana um how has she trained on since that good effort in the turnbull she's come
Speaker 3on well yeah um yeah so uh i think the race will bring her on that's what i'm thinking in terms of where she's at in the prep and um ready to peak in a cox cox plate would you
Speaker 2prefer that race to be run like it was there to bring her on for a cox plate like that fast tempo race that was set by light infantry man from a training perspective it's really hard
Speaker 3to quantify um and it's just like footy like some teams might relish a really tough game before the grand final and and some teams um have a like struggle when they've had a soft game before a grand final and i don't think you really know until you play the grand final so oh look there's no hiding in a cox plate and we don't know this year about it but at flemington like is it gonna are they gonna take off early early like they normally do yeah um it's gonna be gonna be interesting is it gonna be a sit and sprint like be the first cox plate that's ever been run like that so yeah it's an interesting one and it'll bring her on and and three weeks between runs is ideal after you've had a had a searching run like they had last saturday yeah
Speaker 2i think it's going to be an exciting race i think it's going to be an exciting race i think it's going to be an exciting race i think it's going to be an exciting race i think it's going to be an exciting race i think it's going to be an exciting race i think it's going to be an exciting race yeah um no pride of jenny she goes to the to the king charles so she doesn't go there but i think light infantry man's become the pride of jenny in a way now yes
Speaker 3yeah so i guess we're a bit more aware of that now and i think once they often those prodigies and leaders can catch off guard that's when that's really hard but once once you know their racing style you can sort of adjust a
Speaker 2little bit can't you i can't believe i'm going to be able to do that i'm going to be able to do that i'm going to be able to do that i'm going to be able to do that uncle tony told you nice and early uncle tony told you nice and early uncle tony told you nice and early that he's going to the king charles yeah that he's going to the king charles yeah that he's going to the king charles yeah he showed his cards too early he showed his cards too early he showed his cards too early i was talking to me yeah i was talking to me yeah
Speaker 3i was talking to me yeah yeah she'll have to be yeah it's it yeah she'll have to be yeah it's it horses have to be fit to race quite a genie. It's as simple as that. And yeah, there's a little bit less speed involved and more stamina.
Speaker 2I was talking to your jock about it. I think he thinks it's a plus because he doesn't have to lead anymore.
Speaker 3Yeah, with Autumn Glow, she bounces so well. So she can get in the slipstream if she needs to or do whatever.
Speaker 2I think the big question out of your runners there on Saturday in the Caulfield Guineas is that, and a lot of people have asked me this, James has chosen to ride Central Europe over Trombolt. Did that surprise you?
Speaker 3It did a little bit. I think it came down to the barrier draws. Yeah. Yeah, so. But it also gives you a good idea, our opinion on Central Europe. So, yeah. Yeah, like our opinion on him has only changed because he failed in the Golden Rose because we just, we overdid it. He went too keen. We had to work hard, in fact, to get outside the leader and then lead. So, yeah, he just did more than we expected. But he's pulled up well and his work since has been good. So it gives you some idea of our confidence in the horse.
Speaker 2Yeah, how do you ride him then on Saturday? He looked like he just loved Caulfield watching him there at track work on Tuesday morning.
Speaker 3Yeah. Has he watched Barry Seven or something like that?
Speaker 2Yeah, Barry Seven, yeah.
Speaker 3Just see what those speed horses do and where he can slot in, I guess. Yeah. He can go forward as we saw, but he doesn't want to go, like if they go slow, he can lead.
Speaker 2But if they go quick enough, he doesn't need to. Yeah. Trombolt, he's got a difficult gait. Craig Williams can go forward from time to time and you don't think he can go forward. Would that surprise you if he did that? That would surprise me. Yes, yes. Do you think he'll handle Caulfield, Trombolt? He wobbled around there a little bit the other morning,
Speaker 3but I don't think that's a true gait. He has done a lot of work left-handed up here, I can assure you that, and there's been no big comments up here. I guess the only thing is when you are back and sort of wide, you lose sight of the running rail and maybe that makes it a little bit harder around Caulfield. Yeah. But yeah. That's why they're on the big bucks.
Speaker 2Yes, yes, yes. They are on the big bucks. Diameter and Somethings Burden, they're both going well, aren't they? They've gotten horses a little bit.
Speaker 3Yeah. If you're coming out of the stud stakes, normally it's fairly good form, but there's just a couple of smarties and well-credentialed horses that they're running against this year. So, yeah, it makes it hard. But look, Diameter, he'll be a rock-hard fit. And Somethings Burden, his form's right next to Diameter, so he just needs to relax a little bit, hence the reason we've changed the bit. He's got a mountain bit on and that'll just give the riders a little bit more control and conserve some energy, but he's a pretty imposing horse.
Speaker 2Yeah. So that's the guineas. What about Burman? Can you beat She's Alibi?
Speaker 3It just depends how good She's Alibi is over 2,000 metres. Yeah. If she's just as good over 2,000 metres as she is over a mile, the simple answer is no. No. If she struggles at 2,000 metres, then of course Burman's got a great chance. Yeah. So it all comes down to how her staying ability is.
Speaker 2Yeah. If the Cox Plate is run like, if that light infantryman does what he did in a Turnbull, would Burman, would Eliana be a better chance than Burman in a Cox Plate because of that?
Speaker 3I'm going to ask you exactly the same question.
Speaker 2Really? I reckon, because I watched Burman in that Aussie Cup and I thought when Prida Jenny and light infantryman did what they did, he just took him outside of his comfort zone, but then in the Duman Cup, he was better, Chris.
Speaker 3I think he's matured the last six months and on that day, I think the track was quite soft. I don't think he's anywhere near as good on a soft track. Yeah. So we'll be hoping for Burman a good track.
Speaker 2Yeah. I forgot to ask you, and I know you probably won't give me the answer, but Eliana, Melbourne Cup, have you made your mind up there yet or are you still waiting to see how she comes through a Cox Plate?
Speaker 3We're certainly waiting. Yeah. It'll be three or four days after the Cox Plate. Yeah. Yeah. It's not high on our priority list.
Speaker 2No. No. Yeah. I can understand that. What about Pinhole? If you win the Herbert Power, would you back him up in a, in a Caulfield Cup? Not sure. He's a good horse. I think the captain's picked him nicely, I thought there. He's done well.
Speaker 3He's not, he's not suited at the seat weight and penalty scale. That's the other thing about Saturday. Still has a few little things wrong in his race. races, I think he's probably more a Geelong Cup or New Valley Gold Cup horse really. It'd give him a bit more time to sort of keep taking those steps on the ladder.
Speaker 2I was talking to Ozzie Kerr the other day and he nearly gets emotional when he talks about Solcombe. Like it's been a massive project horse in a way and he's so proud just to get him to where he's got him, along with you Chris, working closely with Ozzie. They're great
Speaker 3managers of horses Ozzie and he's so proud of the horses he works with, the people he buys for and he's a great man to work with. Yeah, if we can get him to the Cup, that would be great. But he's got to run top three and yeah, he should be getting close to his better form now. I guess you're right, I'm to run third and if he wins the race, it's a bonus.
Speaker 2Yeah. The Turak Handicap, when will you make a decision with Lady Shenandoah? Last night. Yes. And is she coming or is she staying? She's there, she's arrived. Oh, there you go. I should have looked at Riser because you're excellent and I tell everyone you go, what's Chris doing? I go, go to Racing Australia click on the horse and if it's at Flemington, it's in Melbourne. If it's at Rose Hill, it's in Sydney. There you go. There you go. It's that simple. You don't need me. Can she win a Turak? Well,
Speaker 3we thought about that because she drew better in Sydney. But we've got James in Melbourne and we didn't have a rider in Sydney. Yeah. So we spoke to James and asked what he thought and he didn't think it was an overly strong Turak. No. And he thought from the dawn she'd be fine
Speaker 2and yeah, she's there. I'm loving Panova if Pike can just weave some magic from Gate 13. Chris, are you happy with her?
Speaker 3I am happy, yeah. Interestingly, all her wins have come from wide draws. So that was interesting and I think she's two from two left-handed, so no negatives there in terms of coming down and racing your way of going.
Speaker 2Yeah, and you've got Sun God as well. He had a horse with God in its name as well. God's Window that was like, I watched that replay again. I thought it was She's Alibi. What a performance. That's right. Unbelievable really. If it was She's Alibi, it'd be favourite for the Cox Plate God's Window.
Speaker 3Yeah. So Sun God, he's going well. He's got a similar profile as God's Window. They race through the winter and yeah, he's got a bit of acceleration and his run in Sarupa Pike was good. I think the miles suit him better. So certainly a lightweight chance. We're in a good draw. What's God's Window doing next? Probably running the Craven Place. It's an 1800m race here in two weeks time at Rose Hill, all around with one of the two. They swapped them around a little bit.
Speaker 2Will Lindemann bounce back?
Speaker 3He gets every chance to. I think the Caulfield run was probably just not used to being left-handed and back to the home base. Suitable distance. We think he can bounce back, yeah.
Speaker 2Yeah. I'm looking forward to I only got a few more questions for you because I know you're a busy man. Omar Long. How good is he and did he disappoint you first up?
Speaker 3We think he's good. Yeah. And yes he did disappoint us first up. Our conclusion was 1100m was too short. Yeah. He never had a chance to travel, but he might have just come by. Come up. It might have just come up a bit quick for him. So yeah. Yeah. Dented our confidence. Hence the reason we're going 1400m on Saturday. We think it's an easier race than the other race. So yeah, he's got to win us back.
Speaker 2Yeah. There's Autumn Boyke. Is he coming to Melbourne for a Cox Plate? Yes, he will. Yeah, that's always been the plan.
Speaker 3Yeah. He just sort of got stuck in the ruck down on the inside. On Saturday in the Ipsum and just James just said it was just hard to get clear air and get mobile from that point. So yeah, everything's fine. He's pulled up well and he'll come down next week at some stage.
Speaker 2Jolly star. You've locked her
Speaker 3in. Yeah. She yes. She's well. She had a nice quiet trial. So I think we saw Kane rising. If you're having to get a soft track, he's not as effective. Yeah. I heard him talking about the long grass. So I might go out and throw some fertilizer on the grass.
Speaker 2Just ask Michael Wood. Under no circumstances are you allowed to mow that lawn. It's like back in the old cricket days. I don't know if you played cricket there in New Zealand, Chris, but like if you were batting at two Saturdays, you just make sure you set your mate around to put the sprinklers on if you were bowling on the second Saturday. This might be different. We might go and let the tires down on the lawnmower. Or we have to. We could water the track, put the sprinklers on because depending on what weather report you look at, there is rain around next week. Yeah. Hopefully it's too wet to get the lawnmower out there.
Speaker 3Because obviously he's come pretty
Speaker 2well. And Joker's grin. They tell me, I was reading Alex Vlahos there in WA. He was getting a few offers maybe for an Everest, but you're going to go to Sydney Stakes with him.
Speaker 3Yeah, I think so. I know it's a lot of money, the Everest, but it'd just be great to get him back into form and the Sydney City Stakes. It's the perfect race for that.
Speaker 2Hey, I'm going to the races Wednesday, Thousand Guineas. You got anything there?
Speaker 3Not too sure. We're going to work all that out today.
Speaker 2I should ask your wife because she's the punter in the family, but if I gave you $100. She got the quality last week, I think.
Speaker 3Did she? You said it was like $50. It cost her a couple hundred to give, something like that. Still not
Speaker 2happy. It's a winner's a winner. Just happy to be on the board. Yeah. What about if we gave you $100, what would you do with it this weekend?
Speaker 3This weekend? I haven't had a really good look at the form that we do with our form today. We're backing a horse up in the climbing called Wonka. Yes. It's just a fit horse and he's drawn well, so he'll be at decent odds.
Speaker 2Beautiful. Wonka. Wonka race for horse for a Rose Hill there on Saturday. Yeah. I've got a ticket for you for the Greyhounds at Wentworth Park on the Friday night if you want to come. Chris, last ever meeting at Wentworth Park next Friday. Yeah, it's a pretty special day, isn't it? It will be a special night. I know Charlie Duckworth and a few of your team, they've got dogs, haven't they? They like going to Wentworth Park.
Speaker 3Yeah. They're boring to me. Yes, they do. They love it. They get so excited and I just say whatever. But no, we like
Speaker 2the dogs. Beautiful, mate. Well, I appreciate you coming on Giddy Up. I know you're a busy man. You were great with the media on Tuesday as well, so just keep on dominating, Chris. Thanks for joining us on Giddy Up. One week at a time.
Speaker 3That's all we just try and do. Alright, mate.
Speaker 2Thanks for that. Thanks, Chris. Thanks. It's Chris Waller, the champion trainer. We'll take a break. Peter Moody's coming up next. Join the conversation.
Speaker 1Text us on 0499 736 736 Live across Australia. This is Giddy Up with Gareth
Speaker 2Hall. Welcome back to Giddy Up. We're lucky this man is one of our very best trainers because he's great for the racing game. One of the best entertainers. And they tell me at Kalgoorlie he was exceptional last week. I speak of the great Peter Moody. G'day, Moods. Morning, Hawley. How were the gold fields? Oh, it was good.
Speaker 4It was great to have a look around there. First time in that part of the world for me and
Speaker 2nice people and a good weekend. They have 4X on tap. I wouldn't reckon they'd have swan draft, but yeah, straight out of the river. But a bit of 4X available, mate, you'll be happy to know. Yes, that's good. She's an alibi, mate. How is she? She looked enormous. She seems super. Yeah. Seems in a real good spot. Happy, healthy girl. I think everyone's excited to see what she can do over the 2,000 metres. Yeah, me too.
Speaker 4Me too. You know, all the markers and everything's sort of positive about her going there. Two runs at a mile for me. She's been very strong through the line once. You know, Don Castor and the race the other day. Maccabi Diva, so you'd be a brave man to suggest she's not going to handle it, but still
Speaker 2we need to see him go there and do it. Yeah. And then, so she's going to be hard to beat and a might and power. And then I think everyone's intrigued about her going back to the 1,500 metres. So how do you train her to do that? Well, you don't train her. Yeah. That's the
Speaker 4beautiful thing about it. She's trained herself. So that takes the opportunity for me to make mistakes out of a caper. So you don't have to. You keep a smile on her face for 21 days, basically. So, you know, a pride of Jenny scenario or a light infantryman scenario, you probably wouldn't want to see play out. um you know gut busting mile and a quarter back to it but um six horse field you know even tempo everything gets its chance and you'd hope you'd bounce out of it well and you're probably not going to do much more work there than you are in a more pressured two rack handicap or something like that or certainly a king charles um so uh you know i thought it was probably nearly the softest lead in um outside of having a barrier trial
Speaker 2we just had chris waller on the show and he was um we're talking about alejandra and he goes well i just don't know i'm hoping that that that that run there in the turnbull stakes when light infantryman took off that it will just bring her on but i don't know if i was expecting her to be ready to do that so i can either go one way or the other like they're they're different athletes so i've got a feeling that it'll help her on um and then everyone yeah I was talking about oh geez it would have been great to see she's alibi in that king charles with pride of jenny going there now but um as you just pointed out it's it could be a better a better lead-up race being in a micah might and power with no pride of jenny compared to competing her against her over 1600 yeah no i
Speaker 4think so i think so and then having to back up off a gut busting mile in 14 days i think uh off an evenly run mile and a quarter 21 days i think we've struck the right chord to this point and the weather looks good it looks like the track should be absolutely perfect saturday it's a what was a six yesterday five you'd think it would just be a nice four with a little bit of toe in everything should get their chance and you hope they don't come out of a jari and uh and it gives her an opportunity to bounce
Speaker 2back in the 21 days has she showed you anything different this preparation compared to last preparation that this has you shaking your head in disbelief
Speaker 4oh she's pretty stock standard at home she's not one that whistles around the track and says look at me look at me you know she's she's just in a great happy place uh you know watch katherine you're a spin she went a lap and a half on the all-weather track here this morning and just went sort of 18s a thousand and a bit evens the last 600 just to stretch your legs and she just uh you know if a horse could smile she was doing it you know yeah he's pricked just happy taking it all in and just seems in a really good spot so she's going there excuse free you know and sound no soundness issues and uh she's bounced off that mckay be well four weeks uh we haven't had a lot of time to talk about that but i think it's going to be a really good race to do a lot of work with her she's done a couple of pieces of work on the course property i think she's had three pieces of work on the course proper here since that run sort of over seven furlongs on each occasion she's just enjoyed that her recovery is phenomenal and you find most good horses too uh you know you'd think you've taken her for a trot around the bullring um you know the way she pulls up off the back of doing a piece of work over seven furlongs she doesn't got to beat a sweat on her and um wouldn't blow a match out so she's just in a good spot yeah
Speaker 2um your other runners broader waltz luke nolan takes over um can she go one better this time
Speaker 4around oh well great respect for the philly that beat it the other day point barrow she's a very good philly when when conditioned suit and and allowed to run on i was a little critical of ben the other day i thought he should have probably made a bit more of her uh maybe in the early stages of the straight he felt she wasn't stretching on the firm track so i've got to give it a try and see if she can get it out of it well so um you know she goes there in good order and she gets the weight relief oh i think she meets the winner on the same exactly the same terms but um you know she gets the weight relief on the others uh on her ratings uh she looks very well placed again uh she doesn't have to lead but she puts herself in the first two or three regardless and and hopefully she uh gives luke a feel where she can lengthen a bit more than obviously she didn't give ben the other day and yeah and she can hold off the other one but it's a good philly two-point barrow we've seen it start favorite in oakley plates and the likes of that so you know they're two good mares and it'll be interesting clash once again and then there's another eight or ten in
Speaker 2amongst them desert lighting you're dropping the goodwood champ back to 1100 meters that's an interesting setup for him well just uh he missed
Speaker 4the run the other day uh and he's a big boy and it's probably more a hit out for him to ready him for something at 1100 and he's a big boy and it's probably more a hit out for him to ready him for something at flying. Well we've been having a bit of success on Moody on the Mike we've been finding a few there and outside our camps as well Even Mitho's tipping winners
Speaker 2even Mitho. Mitho's tipping 20 to 1 winners in the Rosemont Red so he's going good. $3.78 with Bet365 we're getting that Oh well that'll do it. That'll kick in the bum innit. 100% I might even get the team at Bet365 we can even boost that for the punters out there but I love it Bryna Walton she's alibi Beautiful. We'll get the chocolates and we appreciate your time as always Moots Thanks Gareth have a great weekend. Yeah same to you mate there's Pete Moody there. It's 8.32 we'll take a break we'll come back with Michael Kent Jr next here on Giddy Up Stable Mail Join the conversation
Speaker 1Text us on 0499 736 736 Live across Australia This is Giddy Up with Gareth Hall
Speaker 2Welcome back to Giddy Up This is Giddy Up Stable Mail always great to catch up with Michael Kent Jr who joins us here. Michael good morning to you
Speaker 5Good morning Gareth
Speaker 2This is the race that you've been setting Sabarge for. Can you get the job done now in a Turack handicap?
Speaker 5Well we hope so You'll see last and 12th his first two runs but if there's ever a good last and a good 12th that was him. He was just in very unsuitable races but trying to pick him into this race at the mile they were the obvious ones for us I think the horse enjoys three week gaps between races and he was in a different postcode last start so it just wasn't suitable but he got home in very good splits so hopefully he can take up a more forward spot we've drawn wide-ish and he's not a fast beginner but he just needs to be in touch on the corner and I think he'll go very well. And it's a
Speaker 2tricky ride there for Ethan Browning like a few of these horses you probably need a little bit of luck in the first couple of hundred meters but if he gets that look out is that hope so yeah yeah
Speaker 5like if he can repeat his performance when he was beaten 0.7 in the all-star mile at wait for age well that's good enough to go very close yeah so just need things to work out very happy with the horse and think he's um a bit peaky he was very off in the coat first up he was improving second up and he's he's pretty good so um yeah look fingers crossed he just doesn't get too far back
Speaker 2yeah my producer Louie Clifton said NAFA can win the mayor's race at Northwood Plume Stakes now he's a good judge Michael he's trying to get Mark Hunter's job at the moment but um do you share his confidence
Speaker 5then the barrier just dinted us slightly I know you're only out of the chute there but we're probably inclined just to ride her a bit conservatively first up she's a mare that gets better the deeper she goes into a preparation if she had drawn a sweet gate you'd be one out one back right but from that gate do you risk punching her forward first up she's a little bit rotunding condition look I think she'll run well so if the race sets up where they can run on and she's having a bit of joy three wide cover then then look we're very happy with her um she went to a whole new level last preparation which um you know we're I wouldn't say we're surprised but it's just one of those mares that's just improving all the time and um she's come back super so um yeah I think she'll she'll go well but to tricky speed map for I think yeah
Speaker 2it's probably tricky speed map for on display as well like she was so good there first up at Flemington um she gets a wide escape here at Caulfield but gets Sarah your thoughts there in race number three
Speaker 5well we had barrier four last time we were three wide no cover so um it might be a problem um I think I thought you would have forgotten about that Gator hasn't yeah no no no um it's all good um I'll never go again yeah yeah um and I just probably felt that more because we just needed a win like as Seamus Mill said she such a valuable mare she can land a big group race and she's only a listed Adelaide man at the moment but should have won three group twos comfortably um she's group one place so with her pedigree in her physique like she costs a lot of money if she can land these races it makes her a lot more valuable so um she's the unluckiest mare in our stable that's for sure but I I think I don't mind the barrier you're up to the mile there's pace on and you know she's got that big finish on it so I think you'd prefer to be um down the middle rather than being held up with bad luck so um yeah I think uh we're very very happy with it I think she'll run super and I think Mark's the right
Speaker 2rider for it bring forth our expectations with him first up over 1700 in the first race at Caulfield
Speaker 5yeah just bowling round he'll enjoy further and there's a few progressive types of the better turn of foot but um come back super and we'll enjoy uh 2400 when it comes
Speaker 2around Ken Sambardo when the hill stakes over 1900 meters race seven at Rose
Speaker 5Hill uh awkward draw um I think the horse is flying um I think you know the fact that he could take off at the half mile against Jenny and level up to at the at the 200 shows you how good the horse is going I mean that was against some of our best wait for age miles in the country and he's um a 10 furlong horse so um yeah really happy with the horse we under nard but we just thought well we probably couldn't win or even run second in Melbourne at the Martin power and um for twice the money in what looks an easy option we went to Sydney so I just that start from the 1900 at Rose Hill it's it's a it's a short start to the corner and um yeah so we will see what we do there but maybe luck early and I think the horse will run excellent very very happy with him and uh definitely worth an each way bet and
Speaker 2at Cranbourne Friday night you got bustling and the fracas going around the Apache
Speaker 5cat classic yeah um so we're expecting the track to go to a good four yeah um so that will really suit bustling uh don't think the wet tracks in winter were his forte um he's come back very good um so I think we'll see what we can do with the week very good won both trials um nice race for him if he gets around Cranbourne laugh rackers uh very promising horse prefers his toe in uh but it should be uh you know a track with a nice man to give like a nice safe track um he could run well too but would probably be better on on wetter ground so um yeah well look hopefully Boston can win I think he's going very good if I
Speaker 2gave you a hundred dollars what would you do with it this
Speaker 5weekend Michael we'll have 58 rounds
Speaker 2of barge so that's uh race nine number eight sub barge and the Turok handicap um they tell me charm Stone was close or well you probably nearly could have got us um a slot in the Everest if you wanted it but um there's a few text messages coming through what do you do with her next
Speaker 5she's going to the Sydney States so the consolation on Everest Day um group two worth two million and Chad Schofield's book to ride there um probably one of her career best friends I think with a softer draw I should three white working working working she nearly goes very close I know Jimmy was outstanding but um she was so brave and it's probably the best she's ever pulled up so um yeah hopefully we can uh get one there next Saturday I was laughing
Speaker 2to myself there the other day on Saturday I was thinking geez you got no idea for Thor hammer handsome when think giant loomed up on a heavy track there in the park Cummings I would never have forgiven him if he won anyway he went enormous think giant
Speaker 5yeah he went great look end of prep run in our opinion and yeah I do think he's better on good ground um so um he's done a wonderful job for his first prep and as we know these imports they can only improve their second and third campaigns in Australia so yeah it might be a nice Sydney

Speaker 1join the conversation text us on 0 4 9 7 3 6 7 3 6 live across australia this is giddy up with
Speaker 2gareth hall welcome back to giddy up this is giddy up stable male and always great to catch up with bm baker he's been on fire this weekend and he'll join us in just a moment he just dropped out as we're about to say g'day to one of the best trainers going around he's in for a big weekend he's got the favorite in the caulfield guineas in war woven he's got paradox him in the roman consul stakes and you just had to watch his um social media video day in the life of bjorn baker and this message has already come up um really enjoyed bjorn baker's instagram post the other day which he did with his wife um the one thing i took out of it was i think he really likes paradox him give it strength on saturday bjorn mrs baker did a wonderful job that was box office type of stuff it's got your live um you should do more of that yep uh morning
Speaker 6gareth yes you're talking to me yeah i am
Speaker 2talking to you i said that i love the day in the life of b baker that's
Speaker 6right and everyone's got it there understood man they can log on of course we do a live tomorrow morning we get the truth thoughts all our runners you can have a look at them we don't tone it down and maybe end with the truth a little carelessly we do on radio talking to prominent radio hosts
Speaker 2yes um and uh what i took out of that um piece of content was that paradox him it's going to be mighty hard to beat if he can do what he did there on um the racetrack like he worked there on that tuesday morning at warwick farm
Speaker 6yes i think he will be hard to beat he's in he's uh he's hard not to love i must say he's got just a great attitude he's mr casual he's strong um it was a long time since rachel actually sat on him of course she's not on him on saturday jason collett's on but she uh she was very taken with him in terms of how much she's developed um and his work was was very very good that's that's what we're in the game for to um get some of these fast horses and uh it's always an exciting morning tuesday and he definitely lived up to how i thought he may go how good is he uh well i guess we'll find out over the next three or four weeks but oh i think he's going really well i was very confident first up in the beside and um he's got a really good gate on saturday i'm confident that he's improved from that run and ideally we can i guess uh put a yardstick down going forward towards the coolmore um so no he's exciting he's definitely exciting he's just got such a great attitude so i still think he's going to be a good guy i think he's going to be a good guy i think he's um the best is yet to
Speaker 2come um and i reckon he's a big price for the coolmore i think he's been disrespected in that market a little bit i don't think he'll be eleven dollars after saturday
Speaker 6bjorn i hope you're right um and you can only sort of look into the the pre-race markets we're just sort of at the end of the day you're mindful of it but you concentrate on getting the horse right and getting them down there in really good order i think he's gonna have it's gonna work out a very good pre-race market i think he's gonna have a very good pre-race market i think he's gonna have a very good pre-race market i think he's gonna have a very good pre-race market um four weeks from the poseidon he had a gallop between races last week last wednesday and i think it'll work out well if we can have a nice three weeks from saturday into the coolmore i don't know who sent
Speaker 2this text in double one the last couple of digits but it says tell bjorn baker that war woven gonna get windburned by blind rays i don't know if that's from tren or not um but geez it's it's some build-up the two great mates going at each other um um the sydney colt and the melbourne gelding it's going to be a beauty there on saturday at caulfield
Speaker 6yeah and uh well that's a nice text competition's great that's what it's all about and um you never take it for granted that's for sure but funnily enough when i when blind race one i actually text trent straight afterwards and said gee big win um i thought he had to absorb pressure throughout and was dominant and very soft late so um no doubt he's going to be hard to beat and if you can't uh there's plenty of other good horses in the race too and at a mile it probably changes things a little bit of course we've got to go left-handed and we've got to travel so he'll head down tonight um but i'm confident he's in really good order if anything he might be slightly fitter from that uh golden rose run up to a mile i'm confident he'll be very good at the mile but you never quite know um and he's drawn six of eleven so smack bang in the middle of the field i think rachel will have nice options from there he's got good gate speed but now it's going to be a good clash funnily enough i i went to school with a lot of the owners in blind race yeah um and um i'm hoping it's a very long long journey back to the land of the long white cloud with him on sunday garrett
Speaker 2so he was superb when he won of course the golden rose like his rating was just off the chart are you confident that he can reproduce that type of rating again well
Speaker 6you're always hopeful and no doubt the race worked out well in the golden rose as well there's plenty of speed on he's able to take advantage of his good gate and get into clear air when he needed so visually it was very impressive but also the race did work out from um and you can only go off rating so much at the end of the day they're a figure uh plucked i've got my own personal ratings on those ratings gurus and their ratings are a lot lower than the ratings they give my horses so my ratings for their ratings it all gets a little bit confusing garrison there's damn lie lies damn lies in the statistics and um all i know is i like the i like
Speaker 2the question uh your beautiful wife andrea
Speaker 6is that right
Speaker 2well i think actually her
Speaker 6average average rating well she's betting above her average rating with me that's the truth i love
Speaker 2the question she asked you she goes um when you're watching track work she goes are you do you more um do you take it in with your eye or is it the data and you looked at her and said more the eye i think it was something like that i thought it was a great piece of content it was a great question
Speaker 6yeah and uh well yeah it's funny it's all it's a little bit and i of course you know like any good ponder out there and i've got an algorithm in my head that also does the ratings and crunches the numbers and sometimes it gives me unfortunately something completely different to what most pundits get
Speaker 2what about synthetic hoof filler on both those horses paradoxium and also war wove and what does that mean
Speaker 6well and that sometimes can be seen as a negative but i've got great faith in our farrier and particularly with war wave and if you have a look at them in the yard tomorrow uh for once again you add another uh dimension to the whole ratings and now we're getting into five six dimensions when you look at them pre-race and you look at those those physical attributes like the equilox and you'll see it's very you might need your binoculars to see it um because it's very small so look we're not too worried about i don't think it's a negative at all and once again paradoxium i'm sure he's going to be fine so at the end of the day they look good worked well in the sound can
Speaker 2robust old sandpaper win an allen brown
Speaker 6stakes well very hard drawn 17 and 18 a 1400 at rose hill when you get the gates out and paradoxium draws uh two you're very happy and then you go from being happy to less happy yeah um so it's going to be really hard they'll both probably be able to roll forward but they're probably going to have to absorb some pressure really unfortunate because i think they're both going probably as well as as ever in terms of when i've had them anyway
Speaker 2can you win the last in sydney
Speaker 6yeah and i think regimental colors is definitely some chance she's got a good gate she's had a long time off um and ellipsis also has been sort of a little bit she's been off the scene for a while so realistically they're both probably going to improve from the run but not out of it they're both i think genuine saturday class horses and maybe on the better stuff
Speaker 2later if i gave you a hundred dollars what would you do with it this weekend
Speaker 6oh geez uh yeah tough one um oh i don't want to say either of the cults because then it puts undue pressure how about 50 each way sandpaper
Speaker 2beautiful race 8 number 12 sandpaper um love it and what about today at orange
Speaker 6uh today at orange well we're we're going there with a few good chances not overly confident i think kennedy compound's a good chance camden cove in the same race um ty glitter might need a little bit of luck as well uh she's only going for you but i like you're not the king at hawksbury i think he should be hard to beat in race six over 1100 beautiful and um you
Speaker 2are the king i've got 10 seconds left before i go for a break anything
Speaker 6else uh what else have we got dad now of all those victorian viewers all gonna go have a great day See you, team.
Speaker 1Text us on 0499 736 736. Live across Australia, this is Giddy Up with Gareth Hall.
Speaker 2Yeah, he's entertaining as always, Bjorn Baker. He's still talking. We had to cut him off. He's $100 staking planner. He didn't want to tip any of his cults because he thinks he'll jinx them. But he likes race 8, number 12, sandpaper. But I reckon he's bullish about Paradox. He just had to watch his video there the other day. It's going to be a busy second hour coming your way. Trent Busseton's about to join us. Clint McDonald, Adrian Bottenwill-Friedman. And then we've got Gator's game plan just after 9.30. So it's a big hour coming your way. But always great to catch up with Trent Busseton. He would love to beat. Bjorn Baker at a photo finish, I reckon, in the Caulfield Guineas. He's got blind rays. He's the pride of New Zealand, blind rays. The gelding by Ace High. Hello to you, Trent.
Speaker 7Gareth, how are you, mate?
Speaker 2I don't want to beat him in a photo finish.
Speaker 4I want to beat him by five links.
Speaker 2Yeah, yeah. I'll tell you, he reckons all of his schoolmates are in blind rays. And he was telling us it would be one of the most satisfying victories of his career. But I guess it would be the same for you. You can beat him.
Speaker 4Well, he didn't have very many mates growing up because he was a little nerd. So I think there's two schoolmates in there. And that was about as inviting as a mate.
Speaker 2Did you go to school with him?
Speaker 4No. He's like the way they went to like a private schoolboy thing. He was the equivalent of a private schoolboy. Okay. I went to Foxton High.
Speaker 2Yeah. So it's different. Yeah. Well, he doesn't really come across as a private schoolboy, does he, these days, Bjorn?
Speaker 8Well, he's let loose a bit, I think, obviously, but, yeah, he was a little poindexter.
Speaker 2Yeah. You're representing Victoria in a way with blind rays as well. You're happy with him, mate? I was reading reports during the week and you were telling the journos that you've never really had him better.
Speaker 4Yeah, he's always been prone to, I guess, the equivalent of asthma for humans. Always just had a bit of a cold or a mucus down his throat. He's never looked great in the coat, like, even a month ago, and I think the guys on racing.com and the Fratering, they picked it up, he looked pretty ordinary in the coat at first up, but it sort of looked and thought, "Well, I've got a month to get this right," and he has his coat as it needs to be. Like, he's gleaming and he's pretty happy out, of course, in himself. He's a very laid-back customer that, you know, just plods along that you don't really, doesn't stand out. He's got a spring in his dip at the moment.
Speaker 2Yeah, we might get you, I think you got us on speaker, it's a little hard to hear you, if that's okay, mate, because it's, it's like you're under, you're underwater somewhere. We'll get you, we'll get you loud and clear. I can hear you, but it's a bit faint, but we're talking about blind rays and how you've got him in great shape, that his coat's come back in beautiful fashion. He seems to be over that asthma problem that he had. So. And from gait to, to, it's a, it's a lovely gait for him as well.
Speaker 4Yeah. I mean, I'll just leave it up to Blake. You can go over a thousand different scenarios and over, overthink it and overanalyze it. He's an on-speed horse, so he'll be on speed where that be, whether it be second, third, fourth, or in front, you know, we'll, we'll figure it out. I'm sure Buoni puts his horses up on speed and from barrier six, their horse probably got to make a decision. So. Yeah. And they'll go forward, but yeah, Blake, Blake will figure it out, but it's a nice gait for him.
Speaker 2Yeah. It looks like blind rays are more woven, um, from a speed map perspective should nearly just dominate this race up front. Um, do you think he's a, could he lead all the way or would you prefer him chasing something?
Speaker 4Oh, you're always nice to take a sit and be peeling off something's back. No question. But he basically led the other day from the 600, you know, he was outside the leader and then the. Yeah. The race was sort of turned on its head. Um, so he was sort of, once those other horses whipped around, he was leading, uh, it wouldn't worry me to see him in front, but I mean, I'm sure someone somewhere might be thinking to put a bit of speed in the race because you know, all the mapping and all the mapping experts, once those gates open, it doesn't, um, it can unfold very quickly, can't it?
Speaker 2Yeah. But you think there's improvement in him from his last start, arrogant victory?
Speaker 4Yes, just, uh, yes I do. And, uh, you're obviously going in there trying to be positive and that, but just, uh, in the horse's demeanor and his coach is the main thing that he's, he's certainly gone the right way. And just naturally with the warm weather around third up, you know, he's, he's stood up at a couple of good runs under his belt. So I've got no complaints.
Speaker 2That's, um, exciting mates. And, uh, I think that. I think Mooney Valley are hoping that he can win nicely because I would love to see him in a Cox plate. I think so.
Speaker 4Like it's. It's just a natural progression for guineas winners and that if they're not dropping back to the cool more, um, and look, got to get through, get through sad day, but we'd, we'd love to have him there. And I think he'd, I think he'd run well. And, um, but, um, yeah, if he runs well or if he wins or goes close to it or whatever, we'd certainly be having a good hard look at it.
Speaker 2Can you confirm or deny these rumors that one of your owners, you put him on a media band?
Speaker 4I didn't put him on a media band. I just suggested that he
Speaker 5keep his big mouth quiet.
Speaker 2Like those boxes and fighters. They like that. They have to talk up a big game. Don't know. We're talking about the great man, Jack Jenkins, who is your biggest fan. Trent is your biggest fan. He loves you. He loves you. And he, I don't know how he's got into blind rise, but he's in blind rise. He's been in a few of your good ones. You must look after him. And I go, mate, you left, you left to come on and have a job. Have a chat about this, this horse mate. What an experience. He goes, you know what? I'm, I've been told that I'm on a bit of a media band because I don't want me to jinx it. I said, oh, that's fair enough.
Speaker 4Oh, I mean, he's good. He's very passionate. He loves the game and that, and that's what you need. He's a, he's a character. He likes to run an opinion out there, but he's good. He's a, he's a, he's good at, uh, he enjoys it. So it's good to have him on board and yeah, he's a bit of fun.
Speaker 2Um, it's going to be some party. It's going to be some party as well. If you can get the job done with this horse. So, uh, we wish you the best of luck, mate. Have you got any winners for us at Cranbourne or Ballarat? You've got Dahmer Royale. Um, who else have you got? Hydro Thermal, Pryor Pearl, and then Ashima and Kukui.
Speaker 4Ashina will go around at $2 and she's been beaten 10 out of 10, probably nine of them as favourites. So that's, you'd be steering clear of her. Um, Kukui, no, Hydro Thermal will run very well at Cranbourne. She's got a good run on Friday night, but if I was going to throw one out there, I think immediacy will be very, very hard to beat in the Seymour Cup on Sunday. He had no luck first up, um, and ran very well. So I think, I think he's a, it's a perfect race for him.
Speaker 2So if I gave you a hundred dollars this weekend, what would you do with it?
Speaker 4Blind race into immediacy.
Speaker 2Yeah. So race eight, number five, blind race into immediacy there in that Seymour Cup on Sunday. Good on you, mate. You go and get them on Saturday in that Guinness. Cheers, Gareth. Thanks, mate. Buss it in there. And Clint McDonald now joins us here on Giddy Up for Giddy Up Stable Mail. Hello to you, Clint.
Speaker 7Hello, the great Gareth Hall. How are we today, mate?
Speaker 2Good to see you have a winner there yesterday, Tom Geelong.
Speaker 7Yeah, no, it was good. We've had a bit of a rough cut of late, but, uh, anyway, we got one winner. Probably should have been two. Yes. And, uh, hopefully we're starting to sort of crawl our way back to a bit of form.
Speaker 2I was talking to Muj just before. I'm looking forward to seeing a few more of those clips with you and Muj chewing the fat at the stables. The little clip that I saw was thoroughly entertaining.
Speaker 7There's plenty of fat there. I know, yeah, I don't know about comedy, but there's plenty of fat. Uh, no, he's, yeah, moods is moods, isn't he? Everyone loves moods. Uh, he's like Bambi. So, uh, um, no, it's a bit of fun and, uh, yeah, just throwing a few yarns. And, uh, yeah, no, it was good. It was enjoyable.
Speaker 2Is Streisand the forgotten horse in the Scolacci Stakes?
Speaker 7Uh, I think she's the forgotten horse in the Scolacci Stakes. In all the three year olds, to be honest. Um, her run first up was very, very good. We're always going to ride it quiet. Um, you know, I'd said that sort of time and time again, leading into that race. And obviously we've just gone the wrong part of the track. I think if she had been out with those ticks out there that were sort of the better horses and sitting off them, um, I think she would have been riding the finish. Um, you watch her through the line. She was excellent. Uh, she was starting to really get motoring and, um, she's come on, you know, she wasn't there first up. She wasn't there in the coat and, um. She's coming into Saturday. I feel the last six days she's really turned the corner and she's come on big time. So we'll let the little ones play in the little playground and we'll play in the big playground and hopefully we can be there and cool more, uh, cool more stakes.
Speaker 2Was that always the plan to go to the Scolacci with her?
Speaker 7Yeah, it was. Um, obviously, you know, she had seven runs as a two year old, which is a lot of racing for any two year old. Um, you know, she performed at every start, probably except the last one when she'd gone over the top, which is fine. So we wanted to sort of give her three. Three runs, uh, and have them spread apart, which we have, um, so she's virtually been four weeks into the scolace and that's been beautiful because it's sort of the the race got her juices going she came on from it um you'll see her in the mountain yard on saturday she drops from 59 after 51 and uh we always had in the back of my mind she's not a big field you know uh obviously there's a number of nice horses in it and uh just probably the the negative is the barrier i would have loved to have drawn in and we could have just camped there with no weight and sort of just be stalking jigsaw uh so now we just got to work out what we do whether we go forward or go back uh from that barrier obviously it's not our grand final but we want to look good we want to be strong and finish the race
Speaker 2off yeah so it is a difficult ride really isn't it for cart right from that gate they're going to go quick over 1100 meters so um yeah just i would imagine you'd be trying to see if they can run on a little bit there at caulfield with the rail and the true well we've
Speaker 7got a bit of time to watch the racing and i think if they can run on um obviously you know our whole our whole target has been to get to flemington down the straight yeah uh 1200 and either whether it's the cool more or whether it's the champion sprint uh that will be up to you long um but that's been our whole target all the way along is to get to one of those races in peak conditions so this is another stepping stone um she's there to run well she's there to run well uh it's just that you can't help the barriers they're out of your control but we're not going to cook up um in trying to you know i don't think the burn across and and and take up the lead and we're not going to be able to do that because we're not going to be able to take up the lead that that would be a concern for me because i think if they punch her it's very difficult to get them
Speaker 2back yeah but you you think that she's at her best and she can win this race there on saturday she should have
Speaker 7drawn inside marvel obviously she would be very very competitive i'd say she'd be top two but the barrier does concern me now um of you know barrier eight of a nine horse field you've got spy wire in the middle he's a fast horse you know you'd hate to be three wide up on speed you know it's a difficult task taking on the older horses and doing that i
Speaker 2couple of chances there at Ballarat and also at Cranbourne. I see the great T Bates' colours in golf and also Miss Playlounds. I think they're there.
Speaker 7His colours aren't they? That's correct. That's the great Tony Bates. One of the greatest.
Speaker 2He reckons he needs his own segment on Giddy Up T Bates. I say I'll see what I can do. I've got to talk to my manager but I reckon it'd be entertaining.
Speaker 7It'd be R rated that's for sure. Yes, what do you like?
Speaker 2Do you like
Speaker 7anything tomorrow? They're two nice fillies. They're still learning their craft. They're nice fillies, well bred. Whatever they do tomorrow, there's plenty of improvement to come but it's just a starting point for them. They're there to win but I think a bit of rawness with those two horses. They're still a bit raw so I think just with race experience they'll really come on. They've only had a couple of trials those horses and I normally like to give them a bit more. Diamond Heist has had a few more trials but Engulfs only had the two and I just think whatever she does tomorrow she'll definitely
Speaker 2improve. Okay, Shields and Miss Playlounge
Speaker 7Friday night? Shields' first emergency. She ran well first up and she can run well but once again drawing a bad barrier. That's what we've been doing of late and Miss Playlounge this is a starting point for her. She heads to the Vobis Gold Race in two weeks time at Cranbourne, 1400 which she loves and then she can head to Oaks Day for the Inglis Bracelet which is for Inglis Mares only. I think there's only nine runners in it last year so that's sort of her little program for her. She's a bit difficult to place because she's an 88 rated now you know. She's just got up in the ratings.
Speaker 2If I gave you $100 what would you do with it this weekend?
Speaker 7Go to the pub and drink Kelton Draft. Yeah. I'd probably have a Cronulla, Jigsaw and Streisand.
Speaker 2So Jigsaw and Streisand there in the Scalacci Stakes. Alright mate, we appreciate you coming on. As always, good luck this weekend and we'll catch up with you in the next few weeks, no doubt. Thanks, good luck. There's a great Clint McDonald. 14 minutes past nine. Lucy Yeomans and Tommy Stokes to join me next.
Speaker 1Text us on 04009 736 736 Live across Australia.
Speaker 2Welcome back to Giddy Up Gareth Hall with you on this Thursday morning. It's been a busy Giddy Up stable, mate. We've had Chris Waller, Peter Moody, Clint McDonald. We've had a chat to Michael Kent Jr. Bjorn Baker was as entertaining as always and Trent Busseton. So Paulie Sebastiani has been listening closely and he's got his pen ready to go. He's going to tell us who he thinks the best push that we've got this morning with the $100 staking plans. And this man's always a good judge. I speak of Tommy Stokes and he joins us here as we continue on Giddy Up stable. Mail. G'day, Tommy.
Speaker 9Morning, Gareth. How are you, mate?
Speaker 2Good, thank you, mate. It was a mighty effort, I thought, by Regal Award first up in that high-pressure Sir Rupert Clark Stakes race over the 1400. How's he trained on since?
Speaker 9He was huge, mate. And yeah, he's trained on well. I probably mentioned last time we spoke that we did have him buried forward but there's nothing like race day conditioning so he's taken good benefit out of it and we're ready to front up again on
Speaker 2Saturday. 1600 metres. What do you make of him at that trip?
Speaker 9I've only tried him at it, I think, once at Flemington and he overdid it sort of end of prep run. He ran second so a good horse too and they got the rest of the field. So we're not worried about going up to the mile. He's rock hard fit and hopefully sort of the track sort of plays in his advantage. Last start at Caulfield they sort of get an off the fence later in the day and all the winners come down the middle. So I thought it was a really credible run and I think looks a good chance in a pretty even contest.
Speaker 2Do you ride him the same way?
Speaker 9Yeah, he'll go forward mate. I think we draw the same barrier too in barrier four so he'll land and be right there.
Speaker 2Beautiful. So confident levels high with Regal Award. What do you do with him after the
Speaker 9Turek handicap? I've still got our eyes set on the Golden Eagle. That'll sort of be
Speaker 2his last run
Speaker 9for the prep. Yeah and then you never know we might even freshen up him for the Supernova. Yeah, that'd be good.
Speaker 2You haven't got a slot for the Supernova, have you?
Speaker 9Not yet, mate. No, we have.
Speaker 2Do you want to do a deal right now? We'll take Regal Award every day of the week if we can.
Speaker 9We'll discuss that off air, I reckon.
Speaker 2I've got Superbowl tickets for you, Tommy. AFL Grand Final tickets. I'll get your tickets to the Ashes if you want to go there. Just let me know.
Speaker 9Your offer's tempting, mate. We'll definitely discuss it.
Speaker 2Alright, brother. We would love Regal Award. What about Verzain? She goes around in the Thoroughbred Club of Australia plate for these three-year-old fillies. She's an each-way prize. She'll be third up here. What do you make of her chances?
Speaker 9Yeah, she's been a frustrating filly and just a victim of bad luck. First up, she was just raced over Keane from the inside down the straight and wasn't beaten too far. And then second up at Caulfield in a leader-dominated race, she got back to last and she was sort of second, two lengths off the second-last horse and just had too much work to make up. And I thought she rounded off okay. She's third up, peak fitness, up to the 12 with Blake Shinnerboard, plenty of ticks. So she'll definitely improve and can really see her featuring in the first four.
Speaker 2Should we put Athanatos in our quarters in that final race there in the weekend hustler at Caulfield on Saturday? He's
Speaker 9absolutely airborne, the old boy, but just looking at that barrier 14 sort of deters me a bit, but he's ready to run a big race. Just not sure where he maps from that barrier. He can put himself on speed, but we do have sort of bigger fish to fry later on in the prep. He's going to be targeted for the five diamonds, so we'll have a chat to Loppy
Speaker 2first. Do you go around still regardless?
Speaker 9Yeah, he'll still go around. It's sort of, you know, he needs to run. It's his second race of four starts for the preps, so he'll go around regardless.
Speaker 2In Adelaide, that first race is a good little race over the thousand metres. All they go, I know they've got big wraps on him for Michael Hickmont, but our brave boy, this is a winnable race for him there at Moorfordville on Saturday. Yeah,
Speaker 9apart from Michael's horse, it's definitely winnable, so not sure how forward he's got his horse, but our bloke's rock-hard fit sort of puts himself on speed and he'll be in a long way, I would suspect.
Speaker 2Yeah, you've got chances right throughout that program at Moorfordville. Any standouts? I think
Speaker 9Bohemian Amy was ready to win and Bargain Boy was quite unlucky first up. Senior goes on. I think they're our three, including our brave boy, as you mentioned.
Speaker 2If I gave you $100, what would you do with it this weekend, Tommy?
Speaker 9Mate, when Regal Award's running, we've got to go him.
Speaker 2So race nine, number six, Regal Award in the Turack Handicap. A few questions coming through. Aragog, how did you rate his run the other day in the Super and Pose? I thought he was super.
Speaker 9Heavy track wasn't to his liking and I thought he stuck on really well. I thought he was one of the better front running results from that race and he's sort of on path. He'll go to the Caulfield Classic next, I think it's called, 2,000 metre race and then hopefully he holds up for a derby, but I thought it was a really good run and yeah, he's on
Speaker 2track. And how's Deakin going?
Speaker 9Yeah, he was obviously very plain for the eye in a very slowly run race at Rose Hill at Randwick there, but But he's come home now, we've taken him to the farm, up and he'll most likely head to the Moonee Valley Cup now.
Speaker 2All right, then. Hey, great work, Tommy. Good luck this weekend, especially with Regal Award and that Turok Handicap.
Speaker 9Thanks, mate. See ya.
Speaker 2There's Tommy Stokes there. Lucy Yeomans, what a job she's done with Changing Colours. One of the great stories of the spring so far. As we pointed out, since Changing Colours has changed colours and stables, she hasn't looked back and she gets her chance to step up again. But this time, when a big one, the group one Turok Handicap and Lucy joins us now.
Speaker 10G'day, Lucy. Good morning, Gareth. How are you?
Speaker 2Good, thank you. How's your week been leading towards this group one?
Speaker 10Our week's been good. It's just business as usual. There's obviously a little bit of a buzz. We're a very small stable and very early in our career, so there's a bit of a buzz in the air, but it's just business as usual.
Speaker 2And what a mare she's been, Changing Colours, for you.
Speaker 10She's incredible. Yeah, she's taken us on a real journey and she owes us nothing, but she's definitely earned her crack on stage. That's out of that.
Speaker 2And she just keeps on getting better.
Speaker 10Yeah, she's in a good vein of form. These mares, when they're in form and happy and well, they take some beating and she's just gone from strength to strength. We're very grateful to have her in the stable.
Speaker 2And how confident are you that she can take this next step to group one company?
Speaker 10I mean, I think she's put the writing on the walls. Every time we ask something of her, we raise the bar. She steps up. But we are aware that it's not going to be an end. It's going to be an easy race to win. But she's done everything spot on leading into this. And it was the next nice step for her. And we feel she's right in there.
Speaker 2Would you say her best victory was her last start victory when, despite the gauge, she was given a peach by Blake? But she did it pretty easily, I thought.
Speaker 10Yeah, I think every victory has had its merit. I think we've been very cautious. And calculated as to how we've placed her. We've really taken her through her grades. Was I expecting her to go last start and go and win a group two? In the back of my mind, I knew that she could do it. But those races are very difficult to win. But I think, yeah, it was aided by a very good ride by Blake. But for a mare like her to tick off that black tight brace in that fashion, it's probably the most meaningful win to me anyway.
Speaker 2That's a great opportunity for Luke Cartwright as well. It would be special if you both teamed up to win your first group ones.
Speaker 10Very much so. I think Luke, he's done a lot of work for the stable. He knows this mare. He rode her first ever start for us and then her first win for us. The only reason he got taken off was for Blake. So when she had the lightweight, he was our first choice. We didn't want anyone else on. We wanted Luke. We think he's a great young man. He's a fantastic man. He's a fantastic rider. He knows the horse. He just puts all the boxes for us. So things like me, these owners have given me a fantastic opportunity. And I think he deserves these opportunities as well. So we're more than happy to have him on board.
Speaker 2And are you happy with the gates?
Speaker 10Ideally, a couple further in would have been perfect. But I think it's a nice date for her. I haven't properly sat down and looked at the map yet. That'll happen. You know, this afternoon and tomorrow. Yeah, you know, in a perfect world, I would have liked to have drawn four or five. But I think it's a nice barrier. She's good at backtrack and distance. She really hasn't missed a beat since her run a fortnight ago. I've been looking for every reason under the sun to not run her. Yeah. But she's spot on. I rode her this morning. She was absolutely bouncing. So, you know, she'll need a little bit of luck and she'll again need to step up to another, a level again. But I think she'll be aided by the lightweight. That's why we elected to run in a handicap and not a set weights race. And I think, yeah, with even luck, I think she's up to it.
Speaker 2If I gave you $100, Lucy, what would you do with it this weekend?
Speaker 10I would put $90 in the bank and I'd have $10 on my horse to win.
Speaker 2Yes, love it. Race nine, number 13, changing colours. And it's, as I said, it's been a terrific story. It's always great for the sport. I reckon when you get up and coming trainers like yourself making the most of an opportunity that you've been given with changing colours and the sport needs that. And we wish you the best of luck along with Luke Cartwright in this Chirac handicap on Saturday afternoon, Lucy. You go and get them. We appreciate you coming on Giddy Up.
Speaker 10Thank you very much. We'll do our best.
Speaker 2Yeah, there's Lucy Yeomans. Time for a break. Adrian Bott and Will Freeman to join me next.
Speaker 1Live across Australia.
Speaker 2Adrian Bott joins me as we continue on Giddy Up Stable Mail. G'day, Adrian. Thanks for your time. Morning, Gareth. Surfing Bird second up. Can she get the job done there at Caulfield in race three?
Speaker 11Yeah, honest enough, first up. Just peaked on her run. Condition gave out. She is. Naturally better suited stepping up to the mile. Still improvement to come, but it does look a nice race.
Speaker 2You're backing up Campbell Daniel after last week in the Bart Cummings. He goes around the Herbert Power, which is race four at Caulfield.
Speaker 11Yeah, just taking a little bit longer to come to hand for us. I don't think the racing's going to hurt him. He's come through that run really well. Travelled great in the race. Stuck on well. Some good improvement to come.
Speaker 2Tomato Toasty. We all love them. But. She's first up there at Caulfield on Saturday in the Northwood Plume Stakes. That's a good little mare's race over the 1,200 metres. Your thoughts there?
Speaker 11I thought a lovely race to kick her off in. I thought she'd come back well this time round and improved off the filly that we saw through Queensland. She always runs some honest races, some good form around her. But I do think we've seen some nice improvement.
Speaker 2Bear on the Loose represents your all-stable second up there at Rose Hill in race three over the 2,000.
Speaker 11We'll probably go to the Port Macquarie Cup on Friday instead. Softer track up there. Early let down on the firm track first up. So it was disappointing. Can put a line through that. Hopefully he's been good in his work at home and that looks to be a more suitable race for him.
Speaker 2All right. Then Revengeance and Plagiarism, both big chances there in the tap crag.
Speaker 11Yeah, lovely race. Plagiarism I thought was excellent in the. Golden Rose is one of the best of the on-paces there. Stuck on really well. This probably looks to be a. This has been more of a target race for him. He looks to be better suited here. Revengeance missed the run in the Golden Rose, unfortunately. I thought his second up run was very good. I guess the month between runs is the only concern. But he is going well and there's a bit of improvement to come off Saturday's run.
Speaker 2And then Blessed Eagle and Our Emperor go around the Roman Consul.
Speaker 11Blessed Eagle in great form. He's got to take that now to stepping up sharply in grade. But he's very dominant there at his last start. He's starting to put things together. Racing with a bit of confidence. He looks terrific. Our Emperor just first up had to do work outside a very hot speed and that just found him out. So I'd be forgiving of him. And I think he'll appreciate any soft ground that we can get on Saturday.
Speaker 2You've got runners at Hawkesbury today. And as you pointed out, you've got the Port Macquarie Cup there tomorrow where Bear on the Loose will be taking his place. Any winners there?
Speaker 11Van Hoven's been knocking on the door. He's getting up in trips. So he's probably the best of them.
Speaker 2If I gave you $100 this weekend, what would you do with it, Adrian?
Speaker 11Might have to go with plagiarism. I thought it was a good run in the Golden Rose. He stuck on very well.
Speaker 2So that's race five, number two in the tap crag there at Rose Hill on Saturday. And how is Sir Delius?
Speaker 11Yeah, excellent. That was a nice effort in a tough race that I think he needed to have on Saturday. I felt there was good pressure on and it made it a good stamina test. I think it's really brought him on in the right way. He needed a run like that to get him to where we need him to be for the Cox Plate.
Speaker 2Because I don't think everyone was expecting that. You might set the pace there, but I think everyone was surprised a little bit that Light Infantry Man did what he did. And we had a chat to Chris Waller just before as well. I don't think there were too many that had their horses ready to go for a race like that in a way. So that is a good sign that you believe that he will go on and be a lot better for that tough run there in the Turnbull.
Speaker 11Yeah, no doubt of it. Worked out well this morning. He's terrific in his action. He's just been a little bit fresh those first couple of runs. So as I said, I think he's been in need of that.
Speaker 2All right, then. Thanks for your time as always, Adrian. Thanks, Gareth. There's Adrian Bott there. And that wraps up Giddy Up Stable Mail on this Thursday morning. Jesus, it's been a busy show. Paulie Sebastiani so far.
Speaker 12Very busy. You've charged your way through Stable Mail, Gareth. Plenty of staking plans that we will get through and people can listen back to all of those on Apple and Spotify as well. You just follow Giddy Up with Gareth Hall. And YouTube. And YouTube as well, yes.
Speaker 2I think we're going to put Giddy Up Stable Mail on YouTube. So I think Louis is going to text Slevin. the man who's head of digital. And they're going to put that on YouTube. So if you can get home tonight, if you missed it and you're just joining us now, you can watch it on YouTube. Just subscribe to SCN Track. Now, Lucy Yeomans, she said she'll have $10 in changing colors and $90 in the bank. She's a lot smarter than us when it comes to money. Bjorn Baker, I reckon he wanted to tip his Paradoxium, but he went with Sandpaper, $50 each way. Clint McDonald should have the Quinella, Jigsaw and Streisand in these Scalacci steaks. Don't mind it. Chris Waller, he doesn't really like tipping. Let's be honest, Chris. But he did say if he had $100, he would put it on Wonka at Rose Hill, race four, number four. Pete Moody's keen on an all up at $3.38 with Bet365, Bridal Waltz and DeShiza Alibi. Michael Kent Jr., he likes some barge each way, $50 each. On that galloper, who else do we get? Neville Parnham will join us later on. Tommy Stokes, he loves Regal Award. He tips Regal Award all the time. Trent Busseton is keen on blind race in the Caulfield Guineas into immediacy in the Seymour Cup. And Adrian Bott, you just heard him there straight out on plagiarism race five, number two. So there you go. What was your best push?
Speaker 12Blind race. Yeah.
Speaker 2It's going to be a great Caulfield Guineas.
Speaker 12It's going to be spectacular. The two Kiwi mates going head to head. They'll be ding-donging up the straight blind race and wall woven. And I'm of the belief they'll gap the rest. And it could very well be a photo finish, Gareth, in the Caulfield Guineas on Saturday.
Speaker 2Good on you, Paul. We'll catch up with you as the show unfolds this morning. We're going to take a break. David Gately will be next with Gator's Game Plan.
Speaker 1Text us on 0499. 736 736. On Giddy Up, it's time for Gator's Game Plan with David Gately. And hello to you, Gator.
Speaker 13Oh, hello, mate. You're off your deathbed, I hear. That's great. Yes, yes. What a trooper. Resilient. Do you know what?
Speaker 2There's nothing better in life. Poor old Demi's crook now. But there's nothing better in life once you've been a little crook. I mean, you fight your way through it. And then you, like, you feel. You feel 100% better. And you can get out of bed. And you're not feeling like crap. And you're not tired. You just, like, your health. It doesn't matter how much money you got or what you're doing in life. If you haven't got your health, then you're buggered. You're sometimes just so grateful for being healthy, basically.
Speaker 13One of the great quotes. Never, ever take good health for granted. One of my favourites.
Speaker 2Yep, yep. Hey, I can't wait for Saturday. It's going to be a beauty there. I think now, like, we always. And I know we're in the racing bubble. And we do a racing show. But we've always been like, oh. The spring carnivals arrive from Maccabi David Day to Turnbull Stakes Day. And we had Manicato Day there on that Sunday. And we've had some good race meetings there in Sydney. But I reckon once the footy season's are done and dusted, Gator, like the NRL's finished up now, and you get to Caulfield Guineas Day. Racing owns Caulfield Guineas Day until that Champions Day, the final day at Flemington. It's the number one sport in the country.
Speaker 13Yeah, the focus, the spotlight does shine. I didn't know they were still playing rugby.
Speaker 2That's interesting. Yeah, it's Rugby League, Gator. Rugby League, yeah.
Speaker 13Oh, Rugby League. I'm just writing this down.
Speaker 2L-E-A-G. And the NFL's on. You like the NFL.
Speaker 13Oh, yeah. It's awesome. What a great sport. And AFL done and dusted. So, yeah, the spotlight's on us. So, let's make it shine.
Speaker 2Now, with Gator's game plan, he's the coach, the captain coach. We go through some key categories. And then we leave it up to you, the selectors, to ask Gator a question. Now, who is your best bet on the weekend? Who's the first athlete you'll pick in your side, Gator?
Speaker 13All righty. Race six, Rose Hill. Horse number 14, Totono Glow. I think she's a really good filly. She proves that first up. She gave two and a half kilos to another smart one. You know, I'm excited and beat her at faster times than Paradoxium and Co. And then drops four kilos here. I think she should be unbeaten. I'm surprised she's not favorite. I think she's better than Paradoxium. And I think she'll beat him.
Speaker 2Yeah, there you go. I know B Baker's really bullish about Paradoxium. So, it's going to be a great race because both those three-year-olds, we got a good guide, didn't we? Because they both competed down the straight.
Speaker 13Yeah, that's right. On the same day. And look, it's not the be-all and end-all, but it's really helpful. It is. You know, I think. And look, the advantage for Paradoxium is he looked green as grass up the straight. So, I think he could have potentially, that gives him upside. So, potentially, he could have run faster, gun barrel straight with added experience. So, he is a danger. Don't get me wrong. I just think she's better.
Speaker 2Yeah. And how do you think these tracks will play at Rose Hill and Caulfield?
Speaker 13So, this is interesting. So, if it's mad up and in at Rose Hill, that's advantage Paradoxium over Saturno Go. But I'm not expecting that rail two meters. Generally, a really fair track at Rose Hill. Especially if they get a bit of rain, which looks like the latest is there is a bit sprinkling around. So, I'm hopeful and confident of a level playing field. Caulfield, well, there's a lot of protected ground. You know, they've been, what, 11 and 13 meters. So, you know, some nice weather Friday and Saturday. So, look, I'm really hopeful of a level playing field there as well.
Speaker 2The toughest race for you to work out this week with the long division race is the Group 1 Turek Handicap. And the Bet360. Firemark, it agrees with you. It's $6 the field. You can boost Lady Shenandoah to $6.50. Now, she does come to Melbourne. She's in Melbourne now, Lady Shenandoah. So, McDonald rides. She's at $6. Regular Ward at $6.50. Evaporate, $7.50. Changing Colors at $7.50. Warning at $10. Sabarge at $10. Salty Pearl at $11. Ferocia at $15. Sungold at $19. Some good horses here at a big price. Panova at $19. Welcome to the show at $20 to $1. Von Hawke at $26. And then you go out to like two darn discreet at $26 here, Gator. What have you come up with here?
Speaker 13Well, it's, yeah, long division for a reason. Firstly, I just want to give you some synonyms for bullish. Yes. So, buoyant, confident, optimistic, sanguine. Yes, yes. Positive, upbeat. It's a terrific race, but it's a challenge and the market's telling you that. And you just referenced, I mean, how is Von Hawke $25 to $1? $25 to $1. $25 to $1. $25 to $1. $25 to $1. $25 to $1. $25 to $1. $25 to $1. I think it's a great race to have a play for the exotics. Obviously, you know, one pool, there'll be big dividends there. Or big pools. Not necessarily big dividends, if we all agree. But it's potentially a great race to play. As for working it out, I'm going to stick with Regal Award on top. But there's no way in the world he'd be solo in any of those bets. I thought he was really good first up. You know, there was. A really good value play. And I guess he proved that. He ran better than his prize. There's plenty saying that I was wrong. But I thought he ran really well. He ran 47.1 first 800. The Cronulla were wider. Probably in the better part of the track. And he went down swinging. His two mile runs have been really good. Von Hawks, criminally underrated. Lady Shenandoah didn't beat Regal Award home last time. But she probably wasn't in the A-Ground either. She came up inside him, in fact. Two Dana Scrooge flying. Evaporate, forgive, job later. Savage, changing colours, yes, but under. And even Warnie, who's eighth top-rated runner, you can make a really good case for.
Speaker 2Great race. So with the Oz Racing fam, as I keep on saying, on a Wednesday night, Gator will do the form for Sydney and Melbourne. He'll send out their punting bible for the weekend. And this week, in some races, you're given your top eight selections and then a blurb to explain why you like these horses. So it's a terrific tool for your Oz Racing fam. And if you want to get with Oz Racing fam, you just go to the website, that's right, Gator, and you can sign up, www.ozracingform.com. So, ozracingform.com, and away you go. And it's interesting, would you take all of those eight horses you mentioned in the quaddie?
Speaker 13I'm thinking I'll probably get down to Sabarge, probably changing colours just for a bit of insurance. Yeah. Then take a second quaddie with probably our top five and a third. And then take a second quaddie with just much, much skinnier. You know, because if we, you know, and you take that, well, I take it for, you know, sometimes a thousand or a couple of thousand percent. Yeah. And even if it only pays a hundred or two hundred bucks, It's a good day. You know, if you get that 10 or 20 times, it's a good return.
Speaker 2Yeah, it is a good return. Now tell me, this Gator, your D-Day horse is Cormier, who had big reps on him, I reckon, at the start of his campaign, but he really hasn't lived up to them just yet.
Speaker 13No, look, he hasn't. But he's taken on the A pluses, you know, in short course races. He was outspared in a very fast Golden Rose, you know, back and under pressure. They were just too fast for him. What I liked was on and through the line, right until the camera went, of course, to the manning out and the celebrating. Yeah, yeah. Because that's awesome. Yeah. So, but he was powering through the line until the camera left us. I mean, it's horse racing, but who am I? And now he gets to 1800, drawn closer, and he gets away from the A pluses. So, look, Stormy, Marco ran every bit as well as him, pretty much every time they've clashed. So there's not a lot between them, obviously. But he draws well, and Stormy does not. Look, I think you run a great race here. You were keen on him. I'm going to say bullish. You were keen on him at the start of the spring than I was. But I'm starting to turn around, as long as he stays away from the A-places.
Speaker 2He needs a firm track. That's what he needs as well. Yeah. I think that's where he's at his best. So he has got them in his first couple of starts, however, this preparation. So, yeah, it's interesting to see how he does.
Speaker 13He has 30 degrees Saturday, Sydney, but there is some rain about. So just keeping on all of that punters.
Speaker 2Yeah. Chris Waller said that with his $100 staking plan, he'd back Wonka in that race. Okay. Which prickly is. The Caulfield Guineas is your highlight race. It's going to be a great race. I'm looking forward to it. It always is. There's always so much in trade, especially when you get a good Sydney colt come to Melbourne. And the Golden Rose winner this year will be rocking up to Caulfield. And that's Warwoven. He's at 220. We've bet 365. Blind race, 360. Trombolt's at $8. But the intrigue here is that McDonald doesn't ride Trombolt. And he had the choice. And he rides Central Europe. $15 Central Europe. Trombolt, $8. Wolfgap, $17. Cormie Coach at $21. And Unit 5 at $23. The start winner, Diamond, is at a big price at $23. And then Tornado Valley, something's burning around the $26 quote. And the roughy of the field is Sarah Fox. It's $61 here, Gator.
Speaker 13It's a good race this year, isn't it? You know, it can have holes in it. It can have a tail to it, let's be honest. But this year looks a strong rendition. I saw Blind Rose win at Caulfield. I said, how the hell are they going to beat this thing in the Caulfield Guineas? He just absorbed pressure, raced away. Jockey looked to be reading a book the last 100 metres. He was the softest wing you'll see. It was outstanding. Then Warwoven goes to a Golden Rose and runs the time of a proper racehorse. And, you know, if they're eyeing off a cock's plate with these two horses, I don't have any reason to doubt them at $1600, that's for sure. So I've flunked back to Warwoven just because the clock was too fast. You know, the time was too slick. So two over five, gap rest. Trombot's got a lot of ground to make up on Warwoven. Call Me Coach at least has a lot of upside. And Diamond had that A form. There's a two-yard over a mile. So he's in the conversation for exotics. But I think it's two and or five, gap third.
Speaker 2So you suppose. Are you surprised that James McDonald's riding Central Europe?
Speaker 13Well, based on that, yes. But, you know, I'm sure he gets stuff wrong as I do, as you do. And most humans.
Speaker 2When you look back through your data. Yeah, your data. Super Seth was a super horse. He won a Caulfield Guineas. When Sam Freeman's comparing Call Me Coach to Super Seth, it's one of the better three-year-olds that put a bridle on. Jeez, you do take notice, don't you? Yeah, I do. And I'll say that you've got him fourth pick. So he's at a big price when you take all that information in.
Speaker 13Nice punters. Yeah, 100%. And if there's anyone with the surname Freedman who talks, I tend to listen. I think I was 17 or something when Torific lined him up and thought, how could this Lee Freedman bike? It's a genius. So, and then Richard got on. He's a lot of media, Richard Freedman. He was brilliant. They just have enormous knowledge. So when they talk, I listen. And this horse isn't exciting, done to a three-year-old, isn't he? The sectionals back him up, you know, so there's some merit on the clock to what you're seeing, which is a great combination. So look, he's fourth pick given his upside. He obviously hasn't achieved anywhere near what War Rover and Blind Race have yet. But again, ratings are great for after the race. We need to find the winner before the race.
Speaker 2A couple of questions for you. With this race, War Rover, like that was an enormous peak in the Golden Rose. History tells you, Gator, with the way that you do the form, is it easy for a horse like that to repeat a performance like that and produce another number similar to what he did there in the Golden Rose?
Speaker 13Well, I think the asterisk on that is, was just that really, really fast speed, right? So there aren't too many races. It's not real world, you know? So there aren't too many races where they're 46 and change, first eight under. But which sets you up for a really fast time in saying that he was, it's not as if he was out the back and letting it all unfold and run over him. He was within four or five lengths of that fearsome speed and still quickened and won by a good margin. You know, there was substance to him late in that race again on the clock, despite the fast speed. So to answer that, if you're running faster for longer, there's a really good chance you're a really good athlete.
Speaker 2Yeah. Um, how do they ride him? Does he go to the front for you? Woe woven or does blind race kick up?
Speaker 13I wouldn't have all woven leading, um, first go 1600. I'd imagine their plan would be riding behind them, but things don't always go to script. You need a plan a and a B he was up outside the speed when he won two back. Wasn't he? So I think he can cope with that. Um, I think blind race probably has more, uh, first, first 600 speed, but, um, yeah, it'd be interesting.
Speaker 2What about, um, the night watchman? This is the race that we try and find you a winner in the last race, either in Sydney or Melbourne. I think we're going to call field on Saturday.
Speaker 13Yeah. Tough race. The last, isn't it? The weekend hustle. You can make a case for a lot of them and similar to the track. There's a number of horses in there that are 20, 30 to one that certainly going to go in my quality. Um, but, uh, I'm a big fan of in Zuto. He certainly doesn't always turn up every single time, but he's first up. Um, and I think that run was an absolute cracker. Uh, it was a thousand and one or something. And 10, I was against came through inside them up the straight and was terrific through the line. So clearly he's come back super the last time we were second, I'd be beat all by bird, man. There was something, uh, some are tipping to give she's an alibi scare. So she's like, it's great form. I think he's over the odds around $8 and again, no way in the world. He'd be solo quality, but he's top pick. And, and hopefully. Uh, yeah, he's around $8.
Speaker 2I think in Zuto there with bet three, six, five. All right. Then Gator, that's a look at some of our key categories there for your game plan ahead of Caulfield Guinea's day and Hill stakes day there at Rose Hill. We'll take a break and we'll come back and we'll get your parlay before we get into the questions on the garage horse and hound text line.
Speaker 1Text us on 0 4 double nine 7 3 6. Welcome back to Giddy Up Gator's game plan. Um, Giddy Up always brought to you by Bet365 now Gator, your parlay, please. Yeah. It's good feedback
Speaker 2from, uh, you were good last week. You were good last week. And I tell you what, no wonder Will Friedman didn't want to pick up the phone before you came on. Cause he trained Jenison Runner of course. Oh yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 13Yeah. He's a great guy. He's a great guy.
Speaker 2He's a great guy. He's a great guy. He's a great guy. Yeah. He's a great guy. He's a great guy. He's a great guy.
Speaker 13Oh yeah. No, it was beaten what 0.04 of a length and I still copped. By that horse that
Speaker 2Chris Waller's tipping, um, on Saturday Wonka.
Speaker 13Some good feedback there was, um.
Speaker 2Was it positive feedback or negative? Like what else? What more can you do Gator? You can't carry them.
Speaker 13Yeah. No, I thought he'd win. So I guess, I mean the option is you can always.
Speaker 2You were bullish about his chances weren't you? I was bullish.
Speaker 13I was bullish. I was bullish. Um, you can, the option is you can always just not listen and find your own winner. Yes. But the other two won and, and the, what are we still, the balance is what three, almost
Speaker 23,301. $3,301.80. Yeah. And 80 cents.
Speaker 13Yeah. That's important. We get that newspaper always wanted. Now this week, uh, call field race one, number six, VIP into race three, number five on display into race eight, number two, wool woven. Parlay two, three.
Speaker 2Beautiful. Um, and I think in Sydney, have you got a parlay two and three or you just, um, cause last week you went, you went, you went to two state type of parlay.
Speaker 13Yeah. No, it didn't. It almost came off. We've got 0.04 of a link faster. It would have come off. Um, now I'll give you a Sydney one. Just give me a minute. All right. Then do you know what?
Speaker 2You can think about that. All right. And then after the break at the top of 10 o'clock, you can come back with your Sydney parlay. Deal. Yeah. Yeah. I'll give you a minute. I'll, I'll give you a minute.
Speaker 13Okay. Okay. Okay.
Speaker 1join the conversation text us on 0 4 double 9 7 3 6 7 3 6 live across australia this is giddy up with gareth hall welcome back
Speaker 2to giddy up gareth hall with you this thursday morning this is giddy up stable mail thanks to no i shouldn't say this is gator's game plan all things about 365 on this thursday morning gator um i was so excited to get your sydney parlay thank you
Speaker 13right um that's interesting and noteworthy so certainly saturno grow race 6 number 14 race 7 number one linda
Speaker 2man race 6 number 14 race 7 number one yes yes seven
Speaker 13by one yeah and race nine number eight jerry gong
Speaker 2race nine number eight beautiful so race six number 14 race seven number one and jerry gong race nine number eight your parlay in sydney love it um but you're more confident there at
Speaker 13caulfield um look i am um just because i i think i know uh where the horse will be and what the track will be yep yep
Speaker 2morning gator and gareth what are your thoughts on warning going into the turac
Speaker 13yeah look you must have a case i mean all these form into times with the um gate one by race nine will that be the right place he certainly can be within striking distance he's going well um so he's one of many i can make a case
Speaker 2for gareth any this is from mark from williamstown any truth in the room a gator is dodging heading out to the western suburbs on saturday and sending the b team led by mark almost to put up with all the ferals in newport for the tab live cross i it's i don't know if there's any ferals at newport it's one of the most beautiful places i reckon yeah no that sounds
Speaker 13a lot of fun i've got a lot of right up your alley yeah
Speaker 2right up your alley newport i reckon
Speaker 13no no i said affluent yeah yeah the different a word there but you gotta use words
Speaker 2that we can understand and give you
Speaker 13understand yeah i'm sanguine about um about saturday no um yeah so we'll see what happens i've been out the west many times for uh yeah for on a saturday and had a really great experience so that i think that's unfair criticism of uh um but mark is a trooper as well we might be on course
Speaker 2there we go hopefully they uh put the heater there because you look cold there yeah it was
Speaker 13frigid and they put us right in a wind tunnel so it was great and then um then our ceo jumped on telly and told me i was on too much that was good it's good feedback because it's what i wanted i
Speaker 2was reading an article i think on betsy.com today you're even getting quoted now as the ambassador for the one pool yeah i'm gonna send another
Speaker 13invoice in this i think yeah let's see how that go hey g you
Speaker 2this is for miss from bathurst ask gator what he thinks about welcome to the show gee i love this horse just keeps on winning golden cup form is good for my man froggy's you another group one gets in great with 52 and a half gee
Speaker 13you can make a good case can't you um just so genuine that horse and being a handicap that brings him back into it um he's running the golden cup was really good with plenty against and then winter fleming can be a good field so um can make a case for him
Speaker 2him as well morning lads flying for fun in the scalacci for me one hell of a seventh last start and with fresh air this time it will go bang that's from rocket good on your
Speaker 13rocket no i agree uh it was a very very good seventh back and held up she looked absolutely full of running um but just had nowhere to go one of my favorite things is when they're hammering the line under no riding under their own steam they're obviously flying so can she run past jigsaw he's hard to run past yeah um but uh she's second pick and i very nearly had her on top i just i just kept coming back to jigsaw by default in that he keeps winning he's
Speaker 2a beauty isn't he jigsaw like he's eight years of age and cd reckons he'd be ready to go in that scalacci it's an interesting race what do you make a stride in that race i
Speaker 13don't know so she had some excuses uh fresh you know the action was wider on the track she raced tight she had 59 and a half but they weren't real jet you know real big excuses and we're talking about jimmy star and i saw it the other week and they weren't um your cardiac arrhythmias exactly yeah you know your real track bias so i don't know she did certainly trial well before that but when a two-year-old becomes a three-year-old or three becomes a four-year-old and they don't immediately hit the mark they were at i get i do get nervous
Speaker 2geez i had my spies at cranbourne and i don't want to give away my sources gator because sometimes people don't know what they're doing and they don't know what they're doing and they don't want to um they don't want to be revealed in a way which is understandable but they're good enough to provide me with information to tell my friends here on giddy up the the mail is and we'll get robbie griffiths on tomorrow but the mail is ray mcnerio has never
Speaker 13been better he's trying well isn't he so um he's a good fresh horse obviously if he can fly home and just miss jigsaw in a crocker he can he can win this i guess
Speaker 2yep hi lads what's the scenario where jigsaw gets beat um he's a few months
Speaker 13older than he was um but gee there's nothing to off the trials that says he's gone backwards look he's not black caviar he's not unbeatable um but he has a fabulous will to win um and he's won what seven in a row yeah record yeah do you
Speaker 2trust lindemann to bounce
Speaker 13back yeah i do so the the general rule of thumb with him is um as long as the track's dry you know soft fives about as wet as he wants it um so if the rain comes problem um but if it's a dry track um he genuinely when he fails he has genuine excuses as long as if he doesn't try so i'm expecting him to bounce back asterix track rating hi g please
Speaker 2ask gator central europe can improve with the kind of run than leading midfield and give cheek down the running with jmax magic that's from smithy from rothwell and queensland good on you smithy yeah i'm
Speaker 13certainly expecting a better run i mean not many can do what he did there um unless your name is brazil bay might empower haylist black caviar you can't not many do it um and he just wasn't good enough to do it like 98 of these athletes um so yeah he on his previous run he's he's certainly in the in the each way mix exotic
Speaker 2this is more of a statement from one of our listeners lindemann she's alibi carring rising multi get you five dollars 80 with bet three six five the greatest bet ever yeah look
Speaker 13i think it's you're gonna run for your money that's for damn sure so but lindemann if it hammers right and you're in trouble um carrying rising but it's like groundhog day wasn't it yeah um this time last year and they've spent the last 25th telling me how great a trial it was um anyway he still won the everest last year so let's see what'd you
Speaker 2make of his trial i haven't asked you that
Speaker 13yet for his class of horse um average for a class one horse he went great yeah
Speaker 2there you go but like they just give him a gallop there that they could go quicker if they want but i
Speaker 13guess so yeah i mean i've seen it yeah he's one of the old six world records he's katie ledecky isn't he yeah he just mucks around
Speaker 2he's probably been told by the the racing authorities just not to show off at the trials people hope so because regardless if you're going to go and see the best you want to go and see the best you want to go and see the best you want to go and see the best you want to go and see the best you know and these the last last trials that he's competed in sydney um he hasn't been in his best that's as chris waller pointed out we might need to make sure that um we put the tires down of the lawnmowers there at randwick if the grass is we need the grass long
Speaker 13yeah the grass is too long yeah what a beautiful game we're
Speaker 2in like you tell me another sport that can have a narrative like
Speaker 13that like no that's a good one yeah um yeah
Speaker 2gator thoughts on machine gun gracie and the herbert power unbeaten the trip loves good ground and was strong through the line last start yeah
Speaker 13she was quite good wasn't she i mean she led at an even speed and there were three horses faster than her that's a problem but look um she's getting fitter i guess she's she's in the mix if it's a leader's track hey presto she's she's a live hope on a level playing field you'd have to think uh there are stronger chances fifth top rated runner race
Speaker 2number one at cool field um dingo goes vip race one meet some handy progressive horses this weekend so what are your top three gator in that race yeah i think
Speaker 13it's a good benchmark 80 isn't it i'll give them that um
Speaker 2i'm thankful that you acknowledge a good benchmark race usually you're critical of those poor old benchmark horses competing on a saturday but
Speaker 13yeah yeah no on a corporate guinea start look i think look i'm on record i think 27 races on the saturday 23 of them should be benchmark 56 or better yes um jokes but yeah look this is this is a strong race because of that reason you've got the up and comers i mean vip to me uh incas atar or something classic gems been group one competitive um and just desserts comes off a terrific win even that interesting down the bottoms trial really well so look i'm going to tip vip i think he's a group horse so um i do wish he drew a little bit better but um can only have one on top and i'm going to stick with him i was really keen on him last time his first up win prior to that was dynamite
Speaker 2so that's a look at the first race at caulfield say gate is keen along with dingo and vip we're going to take a break and then we'll go through all of your questions we continue Continue on with your questions. And they are flowing through. Why wouldn't they be ahead of a big weekend of racing on the Garrett's Horse and Hound text line? It is great to have your company. This is Giddyup. All thanks to Bet365.
Speaker 1This is Giddyup with Gareth Hall.
Speaker 14Swings in front by length and double vision. Kukuka Cashley takes a rails run. And Shahamur gets to the outside. At the 150, Love Story, a narrow leader. Kukuka Cashley races up on the inside now. And Kukuka Cashley seriously challenges Love Story. And Kukuka Cashley the winner. The horse named after a Swedish kitchen cupboard.
Speaker 2Yeah, I thought I've seen it all. But obviously we haven't. And Kukuka Cashley will be going around at Rose Hill Race 5 number 11. And Ben from Warrnambool says, G'day lads, love your work. What's your thoughts on Rose Hill Race 5 number 11? Kukuka Cashley was really impressed by a debut win. And Love Story franked that form. I know that if you're on the fence, like I could have won on the fence again on the Kensington track. Stop having race meetings on a Wednesday at Kensington when you can't make up ground. It's pointless. It's not fair. Anyway, where was I at? So yeah, Kukuka Cashley, can he win their gator?
Speaker 13On Saturday. Oh, is that a horse? I thought we were playing a game of Scrabble. Yeah, yes. No, that's good. Yeah. It was a nice win. And then, yeah, I mean, not only was Love Story heavily back to beating, they gapped third. Love Story, as you referenced there, went to Kensington yesterday and won really well, albeit patting on. So there were a couple of run-on winners later in the day. But I take your point. I think Track Bias is my number one. If I could pick one thing to fix, that'd be it. Now, anyway, I've got Piedmont. On top, for what it's worth, I think he's way over the odds. And can we? I've got 10 over 11. Good race, though, the Tap Craig.
Speaker 2Okay. So Piedmont there for Kiramar, around 650 there with Bet365 in that fifth race there at Rose Hill. Mr. Gator, two quick ones. Number one, outstanding work last week, but I can't find your quad numbers on your G1 email.
Speaker 13Been a lot of feedback. A lot of feedback for the quaddie, for the AusRacing fam. And I think I'm going to bring it in. Obviously. It's just a challenge.
Speaker 2Don wants it in, so.
Speaker 13Don, yeah. But a lot of feedback, a lot of emails from the AusRacing fam. And I take that on board. The challenge for quaddies on Wednesday is the scratching epidemic and the dual acceptors. But we can always go wide and then have a skinny one. So I'm a work in progress. I think it's coming.
Speaker 2And personally, Don, if you want my advice, you're probably not asking for it. But I'm going to go with it. I'm going to go with it. I reckon with Gator and AusRacing, as I mentioned with the Bible that he produces for the AusRacing family, is that, so for instance, Caulfield, all right, first league of the quaddie will be race number six. He's given you Jigsaw, Flying for Fun, Ray Bigniro, Inca Runa, and Streisand as his top five. So then you just work out how many you want in that league, read his analysis, and then you've got his numbers there in a way, Gator, I reckon. You can have as many as you want, or you might just want to play Jigsaw one out.
Speaker 13Yeah, it's here. Don't think individual, you know, you put your own flavour on it. I think that's the way to really enjoy the sport, rather than sort of blindly following, I think. And just make sure you're learning all the time. Like, I'm still learning. I still, I now know stipulation doesn't handle a heavy tense. That was good.
Speaker 2Yeah. And what about last week when we thought that stipulation would, and the winner wouldn't? Yeah. That's a good answer.
Speaker 13I'm on by 15.
Speaker 2That's good. Always learning, mate. We always are learning. Powderfinger back together as well. This is from Don. This is his second point. Powderfinger back together. Don't ruin a great era of music or keen to see what they've got. That's a good question.
Speaker 13Yeah. No, good to see them back. They had a little meet up. They had an album with Paul Dempsey from something for Kate. That was worth a try.
Speaker 2So you're happy to see them back then, Gator, basically?
Speaker 13Oh, I think they're better independently, but each to their own, right? It's just an opinion. There's no right or wrong.
Speaker 2Can you please ask Gator his thoughts on the following? I'm all over Stormy Marco. Half of this field is out of Maidens. Stormy Marco clearly has top form.
Speaker 13Gator's thoughts? Yeah, I think it's the right form, you know? So, Cormier and Stormy Marco come through the hot, fast Group 1 Golden Rose. Both looked all at sea in a faster run, 1,400, but warmed up late. Go back two runs, Stormy Marco's all but winning against the B-grade here. And he gave them all what? Four, four and a half kilos. Yeah. So, I just think it's the better form.
Speaker 2And I'm surprised this is still with Bailey. Surprise Gator is on Warwoven, even though data says Warwoven rated that well. However, you can't tell me taking $2 about a horse first way around Melbourne way, especially with the way Blind Race won. Caulfield brings horses undone first time around. Blind Race has my money.
Speaker 13Yeah. I mean, that's a good case. There's certainly a way to find it. We'll find out. They'll race each other shortly. So, I think you can make a fabulous winning case for both of them. I only get to have one on top. So, I'm going to tip Warwoven just because the win was too fast. I take that on board, though. He wouldn't be the first horse to come to Caulfield and, you know, become undone. But more often they handle it than don't.
Speaker 2I like this text message because Garth and Gator, man, are you giving Wolfgap any chance? To run over the top of them in the Guineas? Well, he hasn't had much luck, Wolfgap. And I don't think it's been his fault this time in.
Speaker 13No, I agree. It was terrific first up. Went back, saved for one run and rushed home and made that mid-race move last time. And, you know, I know there's plenty of analysts out there who think it's a good idea. I'm not in that camp. You know, I think that one run is enough to make on a horse. So, if Blind Race has a case, and he's ridden that way as he was first up, he must have a case, I guess. Yep. Morning, Garth.
Speaker 2What is Gator's thoughts on Proxima Dea? He's unbeaten, this filly. I think it's a huge Oaks chance.
Speaker 13Yeah, I'm interested in her to some extent. I was surprised she came up favourite, to be honest. Yeah, so was I. Yeah, just call me and install me, Marco. As a reference, come through the A-plus form, don't they? And the fastest races. But look, she's really promising. She beat the older horses last time, giving them a, you know, she had a kilo and a half above weight for eight. It's not easy to do. Yeah. So, sixth top-rated runner. If she wins, I'll admit I was wrong and learn something.
Speaker 2Hey, Gatorade, what are your thoughts on Sun God rising to 1,600 metres in the Chirac at a juicy price? That's from Jack from Seaford. Good on you, Jack.
Speaker 13Yeah, again, it's that race, our long division. I can make a case for him. He wasn't in the A-ground last time. He gets to 1,600. Would have been a target race for an elite stable at targeting their athletes. So, good case at a price.
Speaker 2Gatorade, I'm keen to get your thoughts. And Fireball Miss in the last of Corfid, I think she's pretty good.
Speaker 13I think she's pretty good as well. Whether or not she can beat these in the weekend, has to as a four-year-old mare. First up at 1,400. I think she's entitled to be a little bit of a price, but I do also have a little bit of time for her as a horse.
Speaker 2So, Barge, Tim says that Michael Kent Jr. has been saying all along that the Chirac is his race. I mean, $11, I reckon he's a big each-way chance. Do you agree? That's from Tim.
Speaker 13Sixth top-rated runner, ran well, fresh. Got lost in the Rupert Clark. Happy to forgive. He's got a nice weight swing on Evaporate from the autumn when they clashed. And they crossed the line with Tom Kitten, who just ran well in an Epsom. So, yeah, in the quarter.
Speaker 2Rhino Bulls says, I like Geron Gong this Saturday. Best horse in the race and gets in with 54. Has trialed like he could run through a brick wall. Looks sharp and ready. 550 is too good to be true. I think you agree. Agree with Ryan.
Speaker 13Yeah, I loved the trial. She went super. Arabian Rose trialed the same day. And I know trials aren't everything, but Geron Gong was electric and Arabian Rose was solid. Arabian Rose has run past her before, though, at the end of last prep. So, I don't think there's a lot between them. But I think the most salient point is the weight. Like, she's a 103-rater. So, she's probably the best-weighted runner on the card, on two cards on Saturday.
Speaker 2Jeez, Keith is a forgiving man. He says, G'day, lads. I'm giving Tornado Valley one more chance. Well, good luck with that, Keith.
Speaker 13Yeah. Yeah, I'm a forgiving man. You know, I can forgive a lot of things. But Tornado Valley's not really one of those.
Speaker 2No. Just on display, Gator, what about four runs second up for Duck X? Are you sure, Gator?
Speaker 13Yeah. Look, I did look at that, obviously. But I think she's had excuses in a few of those. I don't think she necessarily is flat, inverted commas, second up. But I take the point. I do wish she drew a little bit better as well. But, yeah, look, she's a similar price to Skybird last week. And hopefully we can get the same result. We just need a bit of luck early. Something she didn't get last time.
Speaker 2Good morning, G-Man and Gatorade. A couple of each-way plays. Love to hear your thoughts. Rose Hill, Race 8, Seppels, each way?
Speaker 13Yeah, I'm a Seppels fan. And his Rupert Clark win last year was, outstanding. He's run this year and it was really, really good with more weight. He just and ran into, found one better, you know. So his 1,400-metre record, let's have a look at it. Seven starts for five wins. The misses were said first up second, and a second, excellent second, in a Group 1 Stradbroke against the pattern of the day.
Speaker 2Rose Hill Race 9, Miss Free Love held up for most of the Caulfield Straight last run. That's from Liam. Good on you, Liam. Thanks for that.
Speaker 13Where does she get to from that gate is my only query. Like, I looked at that, and the first thing I saw was, looked at the gate, because I thought the same thing. She can win second up wherever she goes. She can still win. She just needs more to go right now.
Speaker 2That's a perfect example there of Black Bookers. Like, Black Bookers are great, but if she draws better, you back her. It's difficult to back her because of the map at the end of the day. She might run a big race. Yeah, she's in the corner.
Speaker 13And we'll know the pattern by Race 9, because we get a lot of races on Saturday. We do. So we get a good guide on the pattern by Race 512. She'll be good.
Speaker 2Morning, Gary. Morning, Gator. Bridal Waltz v. Point Barrow. I reckon Point Barrow gives her windburn again. Thoughts? That's from Wigger.
Speaker 13Yeah, look, she didn't give her windburn, but she beat her. You know, she ran past her. Bridal Waltz was fighting back on her through the line, because that's what she does. She's a bulldog. There's clearly not much between them. They're one-all when they've clashed. And they meet similar weight terms. I just don't see a lot of pressure on Bridal Waltz in this race. But I think they're both really, really good mares. And I had trouble splitting them. So, again, I only get one on top. Narrowly went Bridal Waltz.
Speaker 2Team Salty Pearl want to ask you about Salty Pearl and the Turak. Craig Williams on her back at 52 has never raced that light in her career. Your thoughts there, Gator?
Speaker 13Yeah, so her handicap gives her a lot of hope. She was quite good last time. Others were a little bit better, but she ran well. All her form, well, not all of her form, but some of her form ties in with a couple of key rivals here, including Regal Award, who's on top. So, case made.
Speaker 2Hi, Gene Gatorade. Your thoughts? And Fiery Fun, race two, number nine at Caulfield?
Speaker 13Look, I'm potting all of these. There's three or four of these in this race that come off really good maiden and lower class wins. But looking through the form, any time those beaten brigade have clashed with the good ones, they've been well beaten. So, I'm going to risk them. But, again, I want to reference how much I get wrong. It's a lot.
Speaker 2So, Kuma, race four, number four in the Herbert Power.
Speaker 13He might be ready. Great trial before a nice work late fresh. Squeezed out, key stage, naturalism, good late. He's only been beyond 2,000 metres once, believe it or not. And his win in the Ramsden with the big weight was excellent. He beat Pounding, who just ran by some good ones in a group one, didn't he?
Speaker 2Persian spirit. Is he like one of those gunners? What type of horses? Or is that a bit harsh?
Speaker 13I have concerns about where he's at. I went back and had a look at his win at Flemington last prep and it was phenomenal. But he hasn't really hit that mark since, has he? I mean, he's run well. I don't think he's the same horse he was. I'm surprised he's favourite. I'm just unknowing about whether to have him in that wider quad. He's seventh top-rated runner.
Speaker 2And we haven't mentioned this, and this is a good point from one of our listeners. No mention of Birdman v. She's Alibi. It's going to be a great contest, but as Peter Moody pointed out, this is a lovely. They're not going to go quick, I wouldn't imagine. And she'd just be too quick for them, won't she, She's Alibi?
Speaker 13Well, I think so. I mean, again, there's a way to find out. But she was brilliant, you know, second up, getting it to 1,600. Everything about her tells me she's a 2,000-metre horse and there'd be no betting cocksplate if they. If they went that way. Birdman, obviously the win. When you're 1,400 to 1,800 second up and you give Cosmic Crusader a win, Bern, you're going well.
Speaker 2You are going well, aren't you? Would you take $1.35 and put her in your multis?
Speaker 13Yeah, I could, for an interest. Yeah, you know, it's not going to retire me. But I could do that for an interest and a bit of fun.
Speaker 2Yep, yep. As Moody said, like, She's Alibi into the mare that he likes, he likes their brighter waltz. Like, yeah, $1.35, if you think she'll just turn up, it's just a little bit of extra value to your multi. Chris from Sydney says, Chances of linebacker in King Pedro?
Speaker 13King Pedro's first up off a little setback. I might want to see him, but he's a good horse. Linebacker, I think, can win. He was good in the bill, Rich. He was first two at first two home. He copped a balk at a key stage. He gives a weight swing on General Salute, who had a softer run. Second pick. Baron Gary as well.
Speaker 2I didn't know what to do. Yeah, go ahead. He's the highway horse, isn't he, that steps up now?
Speaker 13No, midway. Midway, yes. Yeah, we're above highway grade with a midway.
Speaker 2Yeah, Baron Gary. And you've got the side streets coming
Speaker 13and then the laneways. We've got the exotic dance and then the bird dance coming and should be good. Baron Gary's really promising, isn't he? Covered ground, both runs back, strong wings, good horse. Comes up a notch for sure. But, gee, the market will be fascinating with him dropping five kilos here against Stars in Their Eyes and Anthracite, Mr. Riz, who all have that Ather Wolf sort of form tied in. So, fascinating race. I'm going to tip Stars in Their Eyes again, but it's getting close to D-Day him.
Speaker 2All right, then, let's run through the rest of these questions. We're not going to get through all of them. We appreciate you joining us on the Garrett's Horse and Hound text line. And this is a good one. If We Call Me Coach is within three lengths of all woven at the turn, does it have the smarts to run them down, look super when it's let down? He's the X Factor, isn't he, really, in the Caulfield Guineas?
Speaker 13Yeah, that's right. So, he's the one with all the upside. He hasn't reached their mark yet, but he's looking likely to sooner or later.
Speaker 2Is Bjorn in the last at Rangwink becoming a thing, especially in the Derby colours? Ellipsis in race 10, a good thing, lightly raised, good trials against overpass and linebacker. First up, record three starts for two wins in a minor place.
Speaker 13He likes the trial. I like the first up form. I think Café Florin would be near favourite in this. That's the horse that beat him first up last time in. Over the odds, double figures. One of our better roughies, I think.
Speaker 2Keita, your thoughts on Militarise. Interesting to hear Waller has set him for this race, but he's on the quick back up. Is this some of Waller's magic? Well, he's had a little bit of time to weave some magic with Militarise, and he's been good, but he just doesn't win. So, I don't know, Nick, what do you think, Gator?
Speaker 13Yeah, he doesn't win. No. Yeah, that's a problem. Yeah. Because that's really what we're trying to do. Yeah. Look, he did cover Granite Epsom around well. Third pick, he'll go in the Coddy.
Speaker 2All right there, morning, Gareth and Gator. What about Suntora and Tomato Toasty? That's from Dino from the Gold Coast.
Speaker 13I can't forgive Suntora after the last effort. Effort, inverted commas. You missed the bunny ears with that. Other horse's name was?
Speaker 2Tomato Toasty, first up in Caulfield, yeah.
Speaker 13I quite like her as a horse. Whether or not she can beat these two, you know, namely Point Barrow and Bridal Waltz, means to be seen.
Speaker 2Third pick. Hey, lads, thoughts on Unit 5 this weekend in the Guineas? Had a ripping run first up, a whisked short, then second up, no luck at Flemington. Thoughts? Yawn. Yeah.
Speaker 13So, no. Not for me, but, you know, been wrong before.
Speaker 2Pinhole gets his chance to win there in the Herbert Power.
Speaker 13Yeah, quite like the horse. He's got form around King of the Hill, who was one of the favourites for a Caulfield Cup a short while ago before he went amiss. So, he beat a good one, I think, last time. I mean, stars in their eyes, who we just referenced. So, he's strongly in the mix.
Speaker 2Morning, Gene Gator. Currently listening from 30,000 feet, en route to Bathurst from Perth. Could you please ask the great Gator if he thinks Barracks can run into the placings of the Roman Consul? Which horse? Barracks. That's one of Johnny O'Neill's. He goes on to say, Ricky, who's in the air. Go on, Ricky. They have a great opinion of it internally and glad it knocked the maiden over last week. That's Kieran Mars, of course. Nash wrote it the other day, yeah.
Speaker 13Yeah, the home of Esty. Look, I think the maiden win had merit there. Some substance on the clock. Four lengths and change off the next episode's easy to like.
Speaker 2Yes. Race two, number 14 at Rose Hill, Street Force. It's halved its quote since market opened yesterday. Looks hard to beat. That's from Joe.
Speaker 13Your thoughts? Yeah, look, I'm a big fan of the highways. And what I like to do each week for the AusRacing family is identify one race that's going to win. The one in the race that I mark as the highway overs. So, in other words, you know, it might even be a good horse in a highway.
Speaker 2Jokes. A Kosciuszko horse, you know.
Speaker 13Oh, yeah, Kosciuszko. That's a race, too. So, he was terrific last time. Raced fastest time. He was my highway overs comment. So, I'm not surprised the money's come in.
Speaker 2All right, then. Then we go to High Garth. Where does Gator Dog have 60s? Rated in the Allen Brown. That's from Craig from Tamworth.
Speaker 13Look, a bit underwhelming so far. But on his day, good. So, outside of my top, where is he? He'll be sixth pick now.
Speaker 2Campbell Danio's like a standard, bro. They just keep backing him up to get fit.
Speaker 13Yeah, I don't think that was a question, but.
Speaker 2No, do you? What do you think of Campbell Danio? Do you think he can be in the money, in the Herbert power?
Speaker 13Not on form.
Speaker 2Yeah. Solcom any chance? That's from Buff.
Speaker 13Yeah, getting fitter, much better last time, yeah, can make a cut. case for him to run well.
Speaker 2What about Diameter in the Caulfield Guineas?
Speaker 13Yeah, can make a case for him. Good tough win latest. His two-year-old form at 1600 was right at the top of the tree. A few of these have clearly come on, you know, since the two-year-old days, but I can make a case he's competitive fifth pick.
Speaker 2Bruce from Perth says, I'm on the way to Adelaide. Can you ask Kate if Cosmic Crusader can win the Caulfield Cup Cox Plate Double?
Speaker 13Cool. We spoke about him and had a reference to a horse called Northerly. Yeah. A fighting tiger.
Speaker 2Now, just got to get this on the record. We're not saying he's as good as Northerly. No, no. We're saying, yeah.
Speaker 13No, no, he's not. But, well, if he does this. He might be. Well, he might be. If he can win a Caulfield Cup at 56 and a half, come back and win a Cox Plate, all of a sudden you're having those conversations. I mean, Northerly was running down Sunline, for God's sake, you know, and matching motors with the long rows. So, real proper horses. Gee, he was a good horse. This guy is as well. Uh, look, I'm a big fan. He'll be, he'll be strongly in, in the thought process for the Caulfield Cup. Let's get through Saturday first.
Speaker 2Now, I'm going to take a quick break. On the other side, we're going to come back and recap your best bets, if that's okay, Gator. Roger. All right, then. David Gately, Gareth Hall with you. This is Gator's game plan. And this weekend, we've Bet365 and races one, two, and three on Caulfield Guineas Day. If your runner doesn't win, you'll receive a bonus bet back. That's right. Miss the winner and you'll receive. Receive a bonus bet back. Head to the rewards page in your Bet365 app to opt in. Eligible customers only. Terms and conditions apply. What are you really gambling with? For free and confidential support, visit gamblinghelponline.org.au. And some great news here. The Six Horse Challenge is back. So, get, um, give Bet365 Six Horse Challenge a go this Saturday. If you're an existing customer, submit your selections for a chance to win $100,000. Don't worry if you don't get all six right. You'll receive cash if you correctly pick four or five winners. Now, that's subject to availability. And the races this week are Caulfield Race 7, 8, and 9 and Rose Hill Races 7, 8, and 9. We'll come back and we'll wrap up Gator's game plan next.
Speaker 1Text us. On 0-4-double-9-7-3-6-7-3-6. Gareth Hall with you.
Speaker 2David Gately with you as well. And as I mentioned before, that Six Horse Challenge, which is exciting, is back with Bet365. So, you get a chance to win $100,000 if you can pick the winners in races 7, 8, and 9 at both Caulfield and Rose Hill. David Gately's about to wrap up and give us his podcast. Hale once again. But I've got to get Gator a Giddy Up hat. Now, I forgot mine today. They're $35. And where do we get them from, Pooley Sebastiani?
Speaker 12You head to merch.sen.com.au. It is all available there with all the SEN merchandise. The Guts Up Stubby Fireball Stubby Holder as well. You can get a whole heap of stuff. The Giddy Up cap is what you want, Gareth.
Speaker 2Gator's game plan. We could call like a. Maybe some merchandise. What merchandise would you buy? What would you buy from Gator?
Speaker 12A singlet. It's got to be a singlet, Gator, doesn't it? A singlet? It has to be the singlet.
Speaker 2Yeah, but we could get a Gator's game plan and say bullish or something like that. I don't know. Hashtag data. Hashtag data. Data. Yeah, I like that. Hashtag data. That could be your merchandise, I reckon.
Speaker 13Hashtag data. I like it. I like the singlet idea. I still think it's a fraction overdressed, but sure.
Speaker 2Yeah. No wonder you're cold there.
Speaker 13Yeah, no wonder.
Speaker 2Yeah. Yeah. Just recap your parlays, please, David.
Speaker 13All righty. Caulfield. Well, parlay 2-3 win. So, Caulfield, race one, number six, VIP. Race three, number five, on display. Race eight, number two, is War Woven. Now, in Sin City, we went with six by 14 to turn our guy. Seven by one, Linda Mann, into nine by eight, Jeren Gong.
Speaker 2There you go. Geez, I like Stu's comment. He goes, Gareth, I'm from country New South Wales, and I can't stand the crying from Gator when it comes to the highways. It's something we get up for each week. Yeah, same. No, I think you're misinterpreting.
Speaker 13I don't sleep Friday nights because of the excitement of the highway.
Speaker 2Night's choice. Can it win a Herbert Power? Big run there the other day, the Melbourne Cup champ.
Speaker 13Define big. I'm going to buy you a dictionary. It was a solid run. I thought it was fine. No, that's not me.
Speaker 2I'm just reading the text messages. Yeah, okay. Yeah, no, all right.
Speaker 13No, that's valid.
Speaker 2Humble apology. Enough time to edit there, and then.
Speaker 13Yeah, no, good. No, it was. I thought it was a solid run, and. Solid. I think he's competitive.
Speaker 2Yep. That is it. Hi, Gareth. The Alan Brown stakes is worth. I am rapping. Yeah, sorry, sorry. I can't. Do you know, I feel bad not reading all these text messages out, but that's a good one. Yeah, I know. We're still going. No, it's good. Yeah. I know what he's trying to say. Alan Brown's worth one and a half, and the track's only worth a million dollars. It says it all, really, don't you think? I think it does. So, there you go. Hey, Gareth, you have a wonderful day. You keep on dominating, being the man that you are, and we'll catch up with you on Saturday morning, the RSN 927 listeners with the Melbourne Forum panel.
Speaker 13Bring on Saturday.
Speaker 2Thanks, mate. Yeah, are you at Flemington? I mean, Caulfield Saturday? Oh, you can't go to Caulfield on Saturday because it's not one of your tracks, so.
Speaker 13Well, I've been advised just via email today that we may be out there on course, so I'll just do what I'm told, mate. We'll see what happens.
Speaker 2Where are they going to put you? In the tap-a-ray or somewhere?
Speaker 13No, just with. Yeah, you know, with the rubbish bins. That's usually, like, with Oscar the Grouch, that's sort of my set-up.
Speaker 2The Blue Army leading the Green Army into one of their tracks there. You know, I never thought I'd see that, but anyway, that is good. Go and say g'day to Gator. Hey, good on you, brother. I don't think that's mandatory. See you, mate. See you, mate. This is David Gately. 10.40, we'll take a break. We'll come back with trial time next.
Speaker 1Text us on 0499 736.
Speaker 15736. Now on Giddy Up, it's time for trial time with Dean Watling.
Speaker 2And all thanks to betsy.com.au. Dean Watling will go through his top five trialers. I wonder if he's got Kang Rising or Ninja in his top five. And then after that, Mandy Morton will join us. So looking forward to catching up with Matty and then we've got Bag of Tips. We'll find you some winners today across the three. Coats are racing in Victoria at Kytan. Luke Ovenessian will join us. Bronzy Nuenberg, Amanda Rando. We'll hear from Michie Abay and Georgie Ferugia as well. And then it's a big final hour coming your way. Mike Nebo from NZB along with I was just no Jess Gow today. So Mike Nebo will be my special guest. I'm looking forward to that. A legend of the Bloodstock game. He's been a long time employee employer at New Zealand. Bloodstock. So looking forward to catching up with Mike. And then it's the Thursday form lounge kicking off with Giddy Up stable male for WA Racing. So we'll be catching up with Neville Parnham. But it's now time for trial time. We'll play this thing again, I reckon. Thanks to Betsy.com.au. Dean Watling joins us. Hello, Dino. Good morning, Jay. How are you? I am very well. I'll be sending you a Giddy Up hat. Don't worry about that. It'll suit you, I reckon.
Speaker 16Thank you, Jay. Thank you. Well, I got no hats left, Jay. No hat today. So your timing is impeccable.
Speaker 2No Christmas tree.
Speaker 16No, Jay. And to be honest, since the Christmas tree is gone, my form's slumped a little bit. So I might have to bring the Christmas tree back.
Speaker 2Tennessee Dream, Toddy Howland is your number five trialer.
Speaker 16Yeah, Tennessee River. Sorry, Jay. I've given you a bum steer there. But Tennessee River. Is the name of this galloper. We'll touch back on the first start for this horse's career. Three-year-old filly. She debuted in the Woodlands listed race there at Scone. Was expected to do things. Ran fourth, beaten 2.2 lengths. That's a nice enough form profile. Spelled 18 weeks. And back-to-back impressive trials. The latest behind Hillier, who's group three galloper. Gee, this horse is a maiden. It's out in the bush. I think it goes to the races very soon. And mighty hard to beat Tennessee River. Two words. There you go.
Speaker 2Thank you. There's a lot of great text messages coming through for Gator's merchandise, like Fifth Top Raider and a few others. It's good. I wonder what we could get you for your merchandise, Dino. Like grouse, this grouse form or something like that. Who's number four? That's not a bad one, G. Yeah. Who's number four for you?
Speaker 16Number four this week is Ellipsis, G. So fitting that this galloper runs in the last on the weekend. So we get to know straight away if I'm any good at these trials. But 18, sorry, 37 weeks off. The scene, two trials. There's been a gap between the trials. Five weeks between the first and second trial. But the second trial, clearly the pick overpassed to answer the boomer in this heat. Down the outside, fastest last 600 metres and second fastest overall time of the morning. Like that profile. Yes, drawn sticky on Saturday. But this five-year-old mare is going very, very well.
Speaker 2Ellipsis. Number three is one for Michael Freeman.
Speaker 16Yep. Fitting G, home and dry is the name of this three-year-old filly. She was. I was in a report back in the first preparation Two trials looked exceptional. Something's gone amiss there. She's been sent to the paddock, but she's back bigger, better, and stronger. First trial, very sharp overall time. This is a nice heat, and she did it in dead set cruise control. So look for a second heat. Michael often gives his horses, sorry, two trials G before it goes to race day. So home and dry sits in the back pocket for the next couple of weeks.
Speaker 2Beautiful. Bear Robertson just text through, and this is a good one. Yours can be giddy up with Dino. This is fascinating. That's a good one, G. I like that one. That is good. Gano likes that one too, so I don't mind that. Fascinating for Dino. I love it. There's a few text messages coming through regarding that, so we might get that organized. AWA, they've got their good mare that was sold, now with Don Thompson. She is your number two trialer.
Speaker 16Speaking of fascinating, G, this is a fascinating setup. Super Smink finds its way into the John Thompson stable. Obviously, you mentioned there being. Here, there, and everywhere, all over the shop, and has a six-year-old mare. It is a bit of a different sort of stable chain to John Thompson, but I love this trial. This was in behind Ellipsis as well. Out the back, not asked for anything, G, but watch through the line. About 300 meters past the post, this mare is humming along. Goes around on the weekend in the Nivison, drawn poorly there, but John Thompson's a terrific trainer. He's a really good first up trainer, so I wouldn't be surprised if she runs into the numbers first up. Super Smink, fascinating.
Speaker 2And Nobler is number one. This is number one for Chris Waller.
Speaker 16Yeah, well, we hear this all the time, G. These imports, they get better in their second Australian preparation, and this is case and point. A really nice first preparation. It was up and down the Hume Highway, Melbourne and Sydney. Has good form around Mr. Miller and Co., and then around King Pedro as well, G. So off the scene 14 weeks, back-to-back impressive trials. The latest was outstanding. Punched a gap between them and rocketed away. So I'm not sure what they're doing. Up this time of the year, 1600 meters looks to be its go. Maybe they look at a similar setup to maybe, I don't know, G, a gong or something along those lines. I'm trying to think what there is later in the season out of that 1600 meter trip. There's plenty of options, but what I do know is Nobler is going very, very well and is number one.
Speaker 2And I think we should be backing from your trial black book.
Speaker 16Yes, there is, G. There is a couple today. Rivalina goes around today in race number five at Hawkesbury. Really, really good. Really nice filly for the Richard and Will Friedman camp on Saturday, G. Don't know if you remember, but a couple of weeks ago, our number one horse was Wee, Wee, Wee, trained by Jason Arden. Goes around in the Niversen. Fascinating horse. Outstanding price each way here. Was 71s all in. Now around 26 and 7, I am going to back that horse, G. I might even pop it in our top four multi. But they're two for the weekend.
Speaker 2Brave, brave. Mercy McCool. Mercy McCool, Dino.
Speaker 16Yeah, I don't know anything else, G.
Speaker 2I beg your pardon. Have a good day, Dino. We'll catch up. Jam of LD. Yeah, we can get all your tips and selections on the betsy.com.au website.
Speaker 16Au revoir, G.
Speaker 2Au revoir. Yeah, very good. Very good. Thank you, Dino. Have a great day. Thank you, G. See you later. The Andre Favre of tipping, Dean Watling. Nanny Morton is about to join us.
Speaker 1Trial time with Nanny Morton.
Speaker 2Hello to you, Nanny boy. Good morning, Nanny.
Speaker 17Good morning, listeners. I won't go into the French.
Speaker 2No, no. We'll start off. You did live in France, didn't you? Anyway, we'll start off with your top five trialers, and we'll start off with number five, and it's one from the Busset and Young Camp, Sumo Sandy.
Speaker 17Yeah, sorry. I was in Europe for a long time, and I can speak a lot more French than the last couple of words I've heard go across. Yeah, yeah. I won't bore the listeners. Yeah, we're going off to, well, who was number five?
Speaker 2It was Sumo. Sumo Sandy for Busset and Young.
Speaker 17Sumo Sandy for Busset and Young on Monday, yeah. Likely race five-year-old Sumo Sandy is not without ability and has returned in good heart this campaign. Was a bit tied through the line with winning his first jump out, but the time was okay. On Monday, he switched from the turf to the Sinto. Unfortunately, due to the weather again, we've had more Sinto trials lately than we've had those on turf. And was soon in command before going up and strongly through the line, displaying considerable improvement in his fitness level in the process. He looks ready to go now, and he's always been a good horse fresh, so watch out for him in the right grade soon.
Speaker 2Okay, Waterhouse and Adrian Bott have got better by far as your number four trialer.
Speaker 17Yeah, better by far was good first up in Sydney when beaten by a guy up at Going Places that subsequently won well again on Monday. Last Friday, he was happy to sit outside the leader before taking up the running in the straight and continuing. Strongly through the line, under a good hold, had the better of quality gallop up Oak Hill and pulled away late. Oak Hill wasn't pushed out, but neither was this fellow. Better by far will be breaking his maiden very soon. He may have three narrow seconds to his name, but he's never been beaten by a bad horse, of course. Yep.
Speaker 2Kieran Marr's got Parrish at number three.
Speaker 17Absolutely. Up in Sydney, that one. There are no interview reports these days. A large number come from the Joseph O'Brien team, as we know, in Ireland. Another such new arrival turned up at Randwick on Tuesday, and he's well worth noting, Parrish. Okay. He ran well on debut at two before his form tapered off slightly, but then when he stepped up into handicap company at three, he just kept on improving into a third at Royal Ascot. And a number of those horses that finished behind him have won again since. He's now with Kieran Marr, and he made his trial debut on Tuesday at Randwick under James McDonald, which was also. He was also notable. Restrained from the gates, he was keen enough, but had the perfect trail and soon settled nicely in the box. Had to be taken back to get across hills and into clear running, but picked up very nicely when he pushed through a gap to score clearly. It was only his first trial. Very nice piece of work, and I'll be monitoring his progress closely.
Speaker 2Mr. Whiskers, number two for Charlotte Littlefield.
Speaker 17Yeah, once race winner, Mr. Whiskers created a good impression when winning at sale on debut recently. Overcame a slow start. Slow start from the inside draw, which isn't abnormal for debutantes. Tags will tell you that all the time, that when they draw one on debut, they're often looking at the starter. He was able to kick through, though, and lead before kicking strongly in the straight and running on well through the line. He jumped a lot better from a wide draw on Tuesday and was soon on the speed, whilst happy to stay well off the inside. Never given his head and traveled very well throughout. Chet Stanley even took a sneaky peak of 100, and Mr. Whiskers won with plenty of time. Plenty at hand. Love it. This is a three-year-old with plenty of size and scope, and while he's damned as a full sister to Fox Wedge, who was a group one sprinter, Mr. Whiskers looks to have a lot more stamina to offer.
Speaker 2All right, Ben. So that's Mr. Whiskers, number two. We'll take a break, and we'll get your number one trialer for the week next here on Giddy
Speaker 1Up. Text us on 04009 736 736.
Speaker 2Matty Morton's with me as well. Your number one trialer is Kevin Daffy's 0-2 Good.
Speaker 17Yeah, I've been a big fan of 0-2 Good for some time and was disappointed with her jump outs last campaign, where she failed to win subsequently. She's moving a lot better this time around, and I think a return to the women's store won't be far off. She traveled smoothly in second place throughout, when asked to do very little first time in timeout, and stepped up again on Tuesday, went straight to the front, traveled comfortably under restraint, and worked her line very well from the 300 when asked quietly. That's as good as I've seen this mare trial for some time. The time was also excellent, and she looks in great order for her imminent return.
Speaker 2That is great to hear. One of our favorites, 0-2 Good. What about some winners from your black bookers?
Speaker 17Well, Gareth, I got on a day or so ago, and the prices have been down. I've been knocked off everywhere, so I'm not sure about this little treble that I've got going. I've got Kite and Race 5 today, number 11, Caddington. It's been smashed. Race 2 at Cranbourne tomorrow night, number 10, in Atizzi. It's been absolutely monstered. And Race 4 at Cranbourne, number 12, Jumsar. It was beaten by a very good one first up.
Speaker 2So what race 2, number what there at Cranbourne?
Speaker 17Race 2, number 10.
Speaker 2In Atizzi. Okay, yep, yep.
Speaker 17Now, for those partners looking for a little bit more value, I'm going to the last race on Saturday at Caulfield, and number 16, Lord Penman at 20 to 1.
Speaker 2Yep, I love the way you're thinking there. Lord Penman in the last at Caulfield. Hey, trial guy, you just keep on dominating. We appreciate your time as always, and we'll catch up with you next week.
Speaker 17Thanks, Gareth. It's been a very busy week, and the Newmark sales continue. We're a $9 million yearling we sold two nights ago.
Speaker 2With the man that you've got an apartment in Mayfair, you're the only bloke that could afford that type of yearling taking on Sheikh Mohammed. Us battlers can only dream about it, but we appreciate your time, trial guy.
Speaker 17Thanks, Gareth. We got knocked out of the water there, so they're different pockets than me.
Speaker 2Thanks, mate. There's Matty Morton, trial guy. It's quickly approaching 10.58 on the other side of it. We'll find you some winners with Bag of Tips.
Speaker 1We'll see you next time.
Speaker 2It's right on 11 o'clock. We'll find you some winners today across the three codes with bag of tips. And I'm really looking forward to our chat with Mike Kneebone, a legend of the game when it comes to the bloodstock industry. Obviously, he's been the head auctioneer for a long time at New Zealand Bloodstock and I'm looking forward to catching up with Mike a little later on. We've got the Thursday form lounge as well. We've got the Giddy Up stable mail for WA and we'll catch up with the legendary Neville Parnham who will go through his runners on the opening day of ASCOT. So looking forward to that. But let's get stuck into bag of tips on this Thursday morning.
Speaker 1The Giddy Up bag of tips for Oz Equipment Rentals. Supplying equipment to the construction, mining and roadworks industries.
Speaker 2ozequipment.com Bet365, thanks to bag of tips. It's Bet365, brought to you by Bet365. The Ultima Hotel in the heart of the Mallee and Oz Equipment Rental Supply. And race 7, number 11, Swift Circle. That's a good meeting at Kighton. Race 1, number 14, race 5, number 11 and race 7, number 11 and he's quaddie. First leg, which will kick off in race 6. He likes 7, 8, 9, 11 and 13. 7, 8, 9, 11, 13. Second leg, 1, 6, 8 and 11. 1, 6, 8 and 11. He likes 7, 8, 9, 11, third leg. And he's going to come home with three horses in the last leg. 12, 13 and 15. Luke Ovenessian at Hawkesbury likes race 3, number 5, Van Hoven. And race 6, number 8, Master Yoda. So 3, 5, 6, 8. And at Orange, he likes race 4, number 9, Gosh Almighty. And I think it's Inyun, race 7, number 5. So race 4, number 9, race 7, number 5 at Orange. Michael Heaton at York today likes race 6, number 2, I'm a Soul Man. Race 5, number 2, Spanish Armada. And race 4, number 8, Who Says Yes? So 6, 2, 5, 2, 4, 8. Rebecca Hill at Ipswich, thanks to Racing.com. Likes race 5, number 3, in Pendore. And race 3, number 7, Star of Paris. So 5, 3, 3, 7. And Darren Carroll in the trots at Kilmore tonight. Amanda Rando, thanks to Harness Racing New South Wales, the home of the Carnival of Cups, where Australian music royalty meets quality harness racing action. Race 4, number 11, Alta Sierra. And race 6, number 4, nothing but waves. The tips there at Pendore from Amanda Rando. Mitchie Abea joins us now. He's done the form for the straight track at Kew Parklands today in Kew 2, all thanks to Racing Queensland. Check out racingqueensland.com.au for where Queensland is racing today. Mitchie Abea, hello to you. Hello, G-Man. Good to be with you, mate. I'm ready to go. Where do we start with your place?
Speaker 18I'll fire off these pretty quick. Kew straight race 6, number 7, Hunter Caron. Hopefully it puts its best foot down. Forward and can salute around $2.90. Draw as well. I think it'll be really hard to beat race 6, number 7. Race 8, number 8, the Doggo tipped four starts ago and it got the chocolates aces up here. Harbed its price, opened $8, now into 4. Draw's really nice. Back to Kew straight. I think it'll be right there at the point end. So race 8, number 8. Then we go to Kew 2, Parklands. Now, best bet on the program anywhere tonight, race 2, number 1, Javen's shot. Won impressively two starts. Back off the same draw, 29.82. Box 1 stats, 15 starts, 4 wins, 5 minor placings. You look at anything out wide of box 4, it's had 40 starts for 1 win and 10 minors. So beautifully drawn off the inside. Race 2, number 1's the best. Roll over to the value play. Race 5, number 2, party with Tom. I think this dog's really well drawn. Goes well at the track, good PB, and should be awfully hard to beat. And then I've got two dogs at odds for us. They are race 9, number 2, 5 birdies. Round $15, forgiving its last run after a quick back up. It's a big chance to run into a top 3, top 4, if you want to take that way. And then race 10, number 2, Misty Rico, to round out the program, 5 bucks, draws low. Been banging on the door due to win one.
Speaker 2Beautiful, mate. What's your very best?
Speaker 18Race 2, number 1, is the very best Javen's shot. I like it a lot. It gets its chance to make it 2 wins from 3 starts. It'll be my launch for the night.
Speaker 2I'll be watching you tonight, mate. I've been listening to you there on the Lids 5. I'm about to go.
Speaker 18I'm about to go and get a haircut, G. So, just so I can look good for you, mate.
Speaker 2I appreciate that. Go and get them, brother. There's Mitch here. I will, I will. Georgie Ferugia joins us. Q2 in Sandown. He's got tips for us. Take it away, Georgie.
Speaker 19Yeah, g'day. We'll kick off at Sandown Park. Race 3, number 1, Lush Hour. Graham, we mentioned yesterday. Absolutely grows a leg when it's drawn closer to the fence and it gets its opportunity here. I think it's really well graded. It's graded in a race where it'll be tough to beat. Trainer John Barber has had an amazing run of late, obviously, with impetuously winning the Emerald and then the Bendigo Cup. He's got a good team of dogs, and I think Lush Hour will be tough to beat. It was $1.90 out to about $2.10 now. We're happy to have a play there. Race 8, number 3, Lakeview Ian. He's probably the most interesting runner of the night. The favourite in the race is a dog called Whiskey. Whiskey is Gareth, who's 500 and 600 metre form. He's excellent. He's a greyhound that probably tracks about four or five metres of the fence the whole way around. It's debatable whether he's going to run out the whole 700 metres. Lakeview Ian has got exposed form over 700 metres in good time. So I think he can just get underneath him here and be hard to beat. So really happy with around the $3 mark. He's probably our best on the program, race 8, number 3. And the two of the park lands that we like, race 3, number 5, Roma Keeping, is the class runner and I think can offset the box draw. Race 10, number 1, Unique Reward has been racing so consistently drawn well and will be tough to beat. The odds have come out for the Million Dollar Chase semifinals for tomorrow night and Jungle Johnny has come up $1.40, Gareth. They have not missed in his battle with Arisa Sparkles off the chart. There's a little battle off the chart in the market with the greyhound drawn next to him, Ritza Sophie. Off the charts, $2.40 for those that are keen, $2.50 for Ritza Sophie, who won't show the speed that he will. And then she's a very, very strong greyhound, but I'll tell you what, it's really hard to tip against off the chart. So we're keen to have a bit of a play there, but we'll be on air with you again, I think, tomorrow before our podcast, yeah.
Speaker 2We'll be able to buy one of those apartments at Wentworth Park if off the chart can win the Million Dollar Chase. Well, you can, all the money you put on that dog, God bless it. Just got to get to the final. Good on you, Georgie. Thanks for that, mate.
Speaker 8Talk soon, brother.
Speaker 2There's Georgie Farrugia there. We're going to have a chat now to Mike Kneebone, who is a legend of the Bloodstock game in Australasia, especially. But he's been at NZB for a long time now. He's their head auctioneer. And when you talk to people in the racing game, especially in the Bloodstock game, it doesn't matter where you go. They speak so highly of our next guest, and he joins us here on Giddy Up. It's great to have Mike Kneebone on Giddy Up here on this Thursday morning. Mike, hello to you. Thanks for joining us, mate.
Speaker 20G'day, G, and thanks for the introduction, mate.
Speaker 2Very impressive. Well, you've had a wonderful life. You've won this beautiful game that we love.
Speaker 20Yeah, absolutely have. And it's great being based over here in Australia for the last 10 years. Previous to that, I was in Singapore, of course, and have been with the great firm and the wonderful Valor family for many, many years. So, yeah, every day is different, mate, and looking forward to a few more.
Speaker 2How's the world changed now? Obviously, you said you were based in Singapore, and there was a lot of business done. How's the world changed now to Singapore, especially with NZB, and not just at NZB, but in other organisations in Australasia? So, is there still a market there? Have they just decided to race in other jurisdictions? How's that all worked now, especially with this Asian market?
Speaker 20Yeah, it's an interesting one, isn't it? And, you know, one of the great shames of racing is Singapore not racing anymore, and also Macau. And then, last year, Penang finished up after 180 years of racing there in the Pearl of the Orient up there in Malaysia. But it's like everything, you know, like, there's new people coming through, there's new countries developing. And, you know, once the racing is in people's blood and they love the ownership of horses, it's very hard to take that away from them, even if the racing has been taken away. And we've seen that. And Singapore, with a lot of owners racing horses in Malaysia now, but they're also looking at Australia and New Zealand and showing a lot more interest there. We have a group, I think, of nine coming down from Singapore this year for the first time in a few years. And you've obviously got people like Benny Kwok, a massive player in the game in New Zealand. So, yeah, there's always one door closes and another one opens. And of course, we've seen China really, really taking a big step forward in the last few years as well.
Speaker 2What other countries in Asia do you think that might one day take over from Singapore? Obviously Malaysia, but they tell me there's racing in Vietnam that could get bigger as well. Is there any other countries that we don't know of that have started to really take a liking to this game?
Speaker 20Yeah, well, Brent Thompson and I would love it to be Vietnam because we've done a few travels up there in the last 20 years and looked at a lot of bare land that just hasn't developed into anything. And there's always people saying that they are looking forward to building this and building that there in Vietnam. I think it is a tough one there, just with the structure of the country. I think Thailand is certainly a possibility and there's a beautiful, new race course being built up there about three and a half hours outside of Bangkok. And they do love their racing. They're great animal people. And I think that they're a big chance. I think also Philippines are up and running and have been for a long time now. And they're doing a really good job, G. As well as Indonesia, look, they're smaller markets, but they're certainly worth following up. And of course, we've still got Japan, and Korea that are absolutely massive, not to mention Hong Kong.
Speaker 2This ready-to-run sale, NZB's led the way in this part of the world. But I remember talking to Andrew Seabrook, the CEO of NZB, even a few years back when we'd been heading to this sale. And I don't know, it's got this, with the record that it's been able to produce with the horses that you can purchase from this sale, and with the way that the world's changing in a way where we're becoming impatient. So we want to see, we want to see these horses at the races a lot quicker than say buying these yearlings. Like, have you been surprised with the way that this sale's developed over the years? And it's now hovering in a way book one at Karaka in January. -
Speaker 20Yeah, a hundred percent it is. Look, I guess it's like anything when you've been around something for so long, you don't see it changes as radically. But look at the 30 years that I've sort of been involved with the really, ready to run it's become one of the great sales in the world it um it just it's an incredible sale uh the team at New Zealand bloodstock the the their innovative um ideas that they come up with every year to just improve it year on year is is just something to behold really and um you only have to have a look at like the results of last night in Hong Kong one of the great uh racing countries of the world and you know the Kiwis took home uh three uh races last night there that were graduates from the ready to run sales and another two that were from the yearling sales or trials so um we've just got this this huge machine of um horses coming through graduates uh right throughout the world now and um you know we can talk all we like about um you know what what we're doing and and what we're trying to do and what we want to achieve but at the end of the day it's about the horses and it's about how they perform on the world stage and you know really there's um nothing better than seeing the results that you see out of Karaka and uh even in the last couple of years the group one winners are mouth-watering and
Speaker 2pound for pound as you point out when you have a look at the honor roll there from that sale like you can try and find a wild wolf or an antenna or a Mr Brightside um golden 60 came from that ready to run sale um they tell me there's some wonderful graduates coming out of last year's sale and that's just to name a few and I know and you would know better than anyone when it comes to the Asian market they love that don't they because they think at the end of the day it's the lucky sale if you can produce these horses and they'll keep on coming back yeah they do
Speaker 20um and you know as I say um and you know as I say it it is because of the graduates it is the way they perform but it's got a lot to do with the Kiwis as well yeah um not only their proficient professionalism uh the way they present the horses and don't forget a lot of these vendors have been doing this for a very very long time it's not an easy sale to put a horse forward to gee yeah you um if you have a look at the sailing sales we probably have about a 10 withdrawal rate uh by the time we get to the post and that is the reason why we need a big book of horses for the ready to run because uh by the time it gets to the ready to run sale itself the dropout rate is somewhere around 15 to 20 percent so it's very important that we have a big catalog it's it's a a sale that um takes a lot of detail a lot of work to get those horses to the sale so that's that's the reason why we need a big book of horses for the ready to run because by the time it gets to the ready to run sale itself the dropout rate is somewhere around 15 to 20 percent so it's very important that we have a big catalog it's it's a a sale that um takes a lot of detail a lot of work to get those horses to the sales in great shape and that's why i feel that the uh new zealand sale has got that genuine edge about
Speaker 2it and these australian horses a lot of aussie bred horses which surprised me a little bit that head to your sale there this ready to run sale um so like what's the process for them when do they arrive in new zealand obviously the breeze ups are next week monday and tuesday at tarapa and you can watch them on racing.com and on the nzb website i think it's on sky racing as well but when do they these horses do they get prepared in australia or new zealand for the ready to run
Speaker 20yeah good good question um i think that um well the australian bred horses is a huge part of our ready to run that's why um i think the new zealand sale now has become the international sale of the world uh for the southern hemisphere and i think people need to understand that our our vendors are buying these horses as many of them as weanlings uh new zealand bloodstock air freight may bring up to uh 50 or even 60 weanlings uh from sales throughout australia over to new zealand um to prepare them specifically in 18 months time for the ready to run so those horses are getting the best of everything they uh you know like it's difficult to see the difference from uh when they buy them as a weanling and bring them to new zealand and put them on that fertile soil that that wonderful uh climate that everybody talks about new zealand it is a real thing and um we we just see such improvement in those horses the bone structure uh the the powerful muscle that they grow here in new zealand and get ready for the sales so um there are horses come over from the east of australia and the west of australia and the yearling sales as well but this is a sale that people are buying the horses particularly for the ready to run market it's not an afterthought it's not something where they think um gee i didn't do that well um at the yearling sale or i don't know what i'm going to do with my horse in six months time these vendors uh know within two in two years what they are doing with their horses and what sale they are aiming for and that's what's made the nzb correct yeah and a lot of australians
Speaker 2like the australian increase in spend has um been dramatic really it's it has risen quite considerably over the last couple of years especially as well so what would your advice be to the aussie buyers out there so looking at a ready to run horse with these breeze ups because this it's changed with the way that they present them as well and there's all these data that you can get um and i think that's a really good point and i think that's a really good to help you make the decision that you need to or that you're happy with so if you can identify one of these horses yeah sure
Speaker 20well look the first thing is that the australian market is is so important to new zealand um they're right on our back doorstep it's so simple you see how many horses we have uh week in week out fly over for races and then come back again it's a very easy trip for the horses uh i think with australians the main thing they need to be looking at apart from the quality uh is the value um the new zealand dollar obviously at the moment i think it was it's at about a dollar 24 so there's your new zealand bloodstock air freight and new zealand bloodstock insurance paid for already without even starting um but i reckon it goes even deeper than that gee i think it's about the prize money structure between the two countries and because the new zealand prize money is so far less than the australian prize money the sale itself becomes very very genuine because the vendors in new zealand they really have to go to the post and sell i know the horses are close to profit they're they're not far away from getting to the races but it takes an awful lot of money in new zealand to win uh when you've got that market at the ready to runs and you've got the clients ready to buy and uh i think that australians the same as uh everyone right throughout malaysia and and hong kong and you know new zealand i mean the new zealanders are no shrinking violet when it comes to buying either um this this past year they spent uh over five and a half million so um it's the value i think and um it's there for everybody to see and
Speaker 2i think people have got confidence too in the nz vendors who it's an art really to get these horses prepared um and as i said that they've changed the way that they go about getting these these these horses ready to breeze up um they're not going as flat out as they used to like um yeah they're really looking after them so to make sure that when the trainers get the horse from the breeze up sales and they're easy to get ready in preparation for their race start so um i think that everyone's come a long way when it comes to that as well mike
Speaker 20yeah absolutely i mean the in the whole of the southern hemisphere the the uh the racing people and you know not taking anything away from the australians and not being too biased towards new zealand which is hard for me to do um the southern hemisphere horsemen and woman are outstanding and that is why they're so good on the world stage uh when when they go international to to race meetings in japan or america or europe or or hong kong um our brand is so good and so strong uh in the southern hemisphere uh and the new zealanders and new zealand bloodstock in particular they're so good they're so good they're so good they've made the way in in two-year-old sales uh nobody's really replicating what we have done and because we're so innovative and we're changing ideas and getting new markets all the time um we're going to be very very hard to catch and and i think that's a great thing because uh we have the numbers and uh and our horses are proven
Speaker 2um bring on the breeze ups there next week and then i'm looking forward to the next week and then i'm looking forward to the next week and then i'm looking forward to the next week as well mike and um for all of the australians watching today they can give jess gower and the new zealand bloodstock travel team a call and they can look after their travel preparations um for the sale because when karaka is buzzing ahead of whether it's january or november for the ready to run sale it is a wonderful place to be
Speaker 20yeah absolutely it is and um you know just that that whole theater of uh karaka it's a very intimate setting there and um and it's a magnificent place to work and you know when i started with new zealand bloodstock however many years ago it was there wasn't even such a thing really as a marketing team and now they drive everything and just do such a brilliant job and that's the way the whole world's going i guess gee yeah
Speaker 2100 thanks very much for joining us on giddy up loved your insights and um we'll catch up with you soon mate thanks for that mike
Speaker 20good on you and all the best to

Speaker 8morning i'm well made
Speaker 2aurum bell i can't wait to see her back at the races in the max simmons stakes see what's your expectations with her first up
Speaker 8oh look she's uh been going really well uh yeah trolled up really nicely the other day probably wasn't any more than what i expected and brad took the initiative of uh taking a trail there um there was a couple of she drew out a bit wider in that race in that trial and uh um there was a lot of you know fast horses underneath her and he he thought that there'd be probably a good chance to sort of give her a sit in a trial because every race every trial she's been in so far she's just been electric out the gates and let them up and um yeah and won most of them except for their last start in the karakata but um so he thought i'll just sit her in and just see if she can um you know find the line which um she did did do that quite well but um she'll improve immensely out of that because she was a bit she'd been covered you know a lot of the much bigger and stronger horse and um very thick um so she was carrying plenty of condition and um yeah she's she's improved off that and had a good gallop on tuesday morning and um she should be better again and better again after this saturday but uh they haven't sort of given us the best of the barriers but um that's gonna with a lot of speed in the race too that's gonna sort of uh yeah make her make her work um yeah i don't know what brad will do on it but uh
Speaker 2what do you want him to do take a different win yeah i know so like do you want to if you go forward and get a gut buster first up would you be disappointed or would you prefer to take that risk out of play and go back and let her run home if you can
Speaker 8uh won't be going back no she's too brilliant for that she was um she'll she'll jump and run and um if we give her a bit of a squeeze what like he said to me after the trial he said i could have led those horses but yeah just didn't think we were doing the right thing to sort of give her that kind of uh head out first first up when she was going to just need the trial and um so yeah i had a similar situation uh a few years back with snow dome he was quite a fast horse and in the same race he started first up and he went forward a couple poked up underneath him he sat three deep punching the breeze and still won the race so um you know i i think she's if she gets caught 3d it will say be it you know um only come around one corner and um i'm guessing that she's she's probably as quick as most of them in the race but it's just they could be a little bit annoying if uh if they poke up i guess yeah i'm
Speaker 2excited to see what she can do and um what do you reckon her big grand final is this prep nifty uh look
Speaker 8you know we've got to see we'll obviously feel our way uh she's um look there's the placid arc obviously it's half a million dollar three-year-old race so 1200 meters i mean that's that's certainly certainly a race that we would have to uh strongly consider um uh but we'll uh there's a race called the winner bottom
Speaker 2there's a winner
Speaker 8bottom well yeah that's probably uh yeah you don't dismiss those uh opportunities but um yeah at the same time she'd have to be winning these three-year-old races pretty comfortably to be entertaining that you know but um she showed last prep that she was quite smart and um she's a stronger version of her but i do expect her to sort of need the run saturday and improve immensely from it so uh hopefully we can um we can see a great run from her and uh from there we can um we can obviously uh plan our uh put a bit more planning into where she's going to be at the moment i'd say she'd go saturday and then probably into the belgravia or if we don't go to belgravia we'll wait a week and go into the class the prelude plus about prelude and then into uh the placid arc i guess but uh you know there's also an opportunity to run in the prince of wales at wait for age so over a thousand meters you know there's all that that sort of option there as well but uh we'll see how she goes saturday and then uh how she pulls up from it and where i think she's at
Speaker 2in the prep always exciting to see these two-year-olds step out and um i know simon miller and sean casey think that they are the the kings of training the babies but you've got one here up nice and early turning point nifty what can you tell us about this two-year-old by playing god yeah i think he's pretty talented yeah um
Speaker 8again he's drawn the outside barrier so they haven't been very kind to me there again but uh um look uh he's trolled up really nice i trolled him in blinkers the other day just to get a bit of a feel with him but steven said he was you know just wanted to get on the chewy a little bit with him so we decided not to go with him and galloped him without him on tuesday morning and he he uh he was uh actually worked worked a bit stronger and a bit better than the three-year-old that he worked with so who i think is pretty nice horse but um uh he's um he's going really well the horse and um two-year-olds races you know they don't usually sort of sit back and come home you know so i would think that we're probably in a position where he she he's going to uh roll forward and um and see where he finishes up and um if he gets in or gets outside the lead or something like that you know he'll they'll know he's there mitch mitch pavement's horse has been pretty impressive in its trials so i'm expecting it to be the uh the one that we've got to get past yes what's
Speaker 2he doing of like like he's just he's he's flying the young man he's a trainer on the rise he's just he's um he's become um um it's quite unbelievable i'm so happy for him but what a performance by the young man it's good for the game to have a new trainer coming through the ranks they're nifty a hundred percent
Speaker 8you know there's a few young trainers that are doing yeah doing really well and um uh you know they're they're the next generation of trainers that we need in west australia because folks like He's getting a bit old, but, you know, he's doing a really good job. I tried to pinch a bag of oats off him the other day. No, he's doing a good job. He's doing a very good job, and he works real hard. He was always a good rider, and he
Speaker 2knew when they were going to win back in the day, so he was always going to make a good train, and obviously he's committed, and the results are speaking for themselves. But we're back in turning point. It sounds like you're keen there. Race 1 numbers.
Speaker 8Yeah. Yeah, let me tell you, he's a lot better trainer than he was a jockey.
Speaker 2He probably wouldn't admit it, but he would admit it now. Now, what about if I gave you $100 this weekend, Nifty, what would you do with it, with all these runners?
Speaker 8But I think they're all about the place. I don't know what prices they've come up at, you know, but I think the two-year-old. I would be worthy of an each-way prospect, and I do think God's Gate and the last will run very, very well on Saturday.
Speaker 2The boys love God's Gate. They tip on my show, Pete Anthonis and Terry Leighton, so they'll probably tip it again, God's Gate. So God give it strength, Nifty.
Speaker 8Well, he'll be a lot better horse on Saturday than he's been in recent starts.
Speaker 2All right, then that's all we need to know. I love it. I'd love for you to beat Miller and Casey there in the two-year-old race, to shut them up. We're turning point. And then away you go with Orin Bell. Yeah, sounds good, buddy. Good on you, Nifty. Great to catch up with you, mate. We appreciate you coming on Giddy Up, as always. No worries. There's the legend, Nifty Parton. We'll take a break. We'll come back with Chris Nelson and Johnny Kelton.
Speaker 1Live across Australia, this is Giddy Up. With Gareth Hall.
Speaker 2This is Giddy Up. And it's time for the Thursday Form Lounge. Will we continue on the Thursday Form Lounge? All thanks to the Rising Sun Hotel, South Melbourne. Backing winners with premium steaks, high-quality service, and the thrill of every race day. As we told you there yesterday, or the day before, the tab have finally locked in. Well, they've confirmed themselves that they'll be teaming up with Jimmy Starr. Giga Kick will go with Coolmore, it looks like. And the other slot, Cabela's for Bjorn Baker, I'm hearing. James Harren, they're doing a deal there with Derby Racing. So that means Yulong are the only ones, really, that we await to see who they're going with their slot. So they've got under focus their three-year-old or Angel Capital. I think it'll be out of those two. So that's the story there with the Everest make-up. You can check out racingqueensland.com.au for where Queensland is racing today. Chris Nelson joins us. G'day, Chris-o. Good morning.
Speaker 21Gareth, how are you going?
Speaker 2I am well, brother. Eagle Farm, looking forward to getting there on Saturday. Hey, and well done on the synthetic track yesterday, the Waller debutante. The way it went at $5.
Speaker 21Yeah, we got one right and one wrong. We got the first starter right, but unfortunately the other one didn't get the money for us. So we'll take 50% with a $5 winner any day of the week. First sighting of the new season two-year-olds at Eagle Farm on Saturday. Sorry. Probably no stars in the making amongst those. But it'll be good to see them go around and we'll get stronger and stronger as we get towards Magic Millions, obviously.
Speaker 2Donna Stainbridge is going to be hard to beat, I would imagine.
Speaker 21Yeah, she's got a few in the race, hasn't she? That's for sure. They haven't trialled all that well. I'd say Kelly Schweder's one's trialled probably best, but the time was very slow. But look, we see that this early on with the two-year-olds. They don't run any smart times, that's for sure. So we'll see how we go there on Saturday.
Speaker 2And Donna, of course, trains all the Mashani horses now. So that's why she is well-represented. Now, where do we start with your plays, mate?
Speaker 21Well, race four, horse number six, Graffitude, is an ex-Victorian that Tony Golding's now got his hands on. And I thought it was really impressive. We were talking about this one a couple of weeks ago at the Saturday meeting at Eagle Farm when they ran at the Gold Coast. It was a secondary meeting, heavily backed to win a maiden off a really good win on debut in Victoria when it was unlucky. Just landed a great spot behind the lead and was quite strong to the line. Just wanted to lay out a bit in the straight. I think it was a good run.
Speaker 2Thanks a lot, Gareth. There we go. There's Johnny Kelton. in there join the
Speaker 1conversation text us on 0 4 9 7 3 6 7 3 6 live across australia this is giddy up with gareth hall welcome back to giddy up
Speaker 2gareth hall with you great to have your company on this thursday time for tassie time the views are better tassie the perfect place to race maddie reed joins us hello to you maddie boy g'day maddie oh there you go we have got you it was just a beautiful picture still picture of you i don't know yeah there you go brother how are you
Speaker 22i'm alive i've got a pulse i'm moving a bit more than that johnny kelton head that you just had up yeah yes yes
Speaker 2yes um well done to james johnson i had a chat to him there the other day he's a man of few words but he's got a ride in a melbourne cup now
Speaker 22he's he's sort of old and wise beyond his year james you wouldn't know that he's as young as he is but um we sort of thought going into the spring g whether not only james and i guess jackson radley too would get the opportunities but but how they'd go if they did and kind of they answered that question didn't they what a story i think he started a couple of years ago on melbourne cup day when he had his first ride james i mean it's easy to forget that the kid hasn't even been in the saddle for two full years so he's just doing a magnificent job and he's got a lot of work to do and he's got a lot of work to do and he's got a lot of work to do and he's got a lot of work to do and it's a it's a dream come true for him and yeah for jackson radley fourth in that epsom last week on plymouth that triple figures are very close to running into the money too so uh we're all very proud of uh how they did last week and how they continue to perform
Speaker 2just back erica burn burke the irish girl there at lonsess and friday nights these
Speaker 22days yeah she was a little bit slow to sort of start the season ebb with a stack of placings but it's all come together for her and she had a treble last week a double the week before that and i think six winners in total since they've come back to lonsest and so um look she's a jet she won our premiership last year she's got a really strong book of rides in in lonsest and uh tomorrow night there's a few i've found for her so hopefully she can uh continue her good run g what about
Speaker 2the trials at longford
Speaker 22yeah there was a few good horses going around there i suppose the big watch um for us was asphar who trialed over 1400 he had that failure on the on the wet deck at mornington on grand final day but um glenn stevenson's keen to persist with him and head to the geelong cup he was happy with his work there at longford so a couple of weeks he'll be into that geelong cup he's got that 2400 meter run under his belt now and steve-o has a knack of getting them to perform for their grand finals he normally does that on his on his home tracks down here whether he can do that at geelong remains to be seen but good to see as far as back and gets to sort of cash in that golden tickety one with the lonnie carter and i think that's going to cup win earlier this
Speaker 2year any winners for us coming up friday
Speaker 22night gee whiz i'd like to hope so gee we're well and truly overdue i'm going to give you a couple at each way odds we'll go with smithy in the first uh for john blacker um it's a get back horse we'll need to circle them at launceston which is always tough to do but i really liked the run last week and i think getting up and trip back on the grass um that's him and first leg of the quaddie race five material madam there's been a couple excuses for that horse in both runs this preparation soft draw i think he gets a chance to run a race for us at each way odds great
Speaker 2work mate looking forward to him dogs as well with the saint ledger and the laurels at hobart tonight as well so it never stops mate we appreciate your time about to have a chat to jesse bazan next and uh she's got her team flying so looking forward to catching up with her in just a moment
Speaker 22sure does thanks jay got you
Speaker 2there snapper reed maddie reed joining us there now jesse bazan joins us here on giddy up jess thanks very much for your time you're very welcome um you scratched silver dagger at flemington there the other day was it
Speaker 23just too wet yeah it was it was um it was too wet there was there was too many variables there um she took a couple of days to settle in and um we thought rather than take the risk we'll uh wait for another day which uh i think may be a blessing
Speaker 2in disguise hopefully yeah so what do you do with silver
Speaker 23dagger now um so my partner neil has uh taken her to his mate logan mcgill's there okay yeah um so she's there at the moment uh we'll wait a couple of weeks there's a couple of nice benchmark races sort of geelong cup day um that we can have a look at there and uh then moving forward hopefully push on to the great race on okay would be the dream yeah
Speaker 2there you go you must be happy with the team that you've been able to establish jess i'm really
Speaker 23happy we haven't we haven't been operating for for that long really and and i feel like we've just been able to establish a team that we've been able to establish sort of gradually built up the quality in the stable um we're chock-a-block full and we've got so many young horses coming through it it's getting really exciting how
Speaker 2good is this six-year-old mare flying concello oh
Speaker 23she's an absolute ripper isn't she yeah um oh mickey stringer he he's done really well to pick her up and um bring her over and he spelled her at his place for a really long time and she's just come along in leaps and bounds since she's been here she she's not the easiest sort of to uh deal with yeah um but i think we've we've got her worked out and she's just yeah we're absolutely fine
Speaker 2and so mickey string is the greyhound trainer so what did he how did he find her
Speaker 23yeah so he's a hall of famer yeah legend yeah purchased her online he he likes the horses as well obviously um he had her trained there over in melbourne for a little bit where she was um sort of not quite as settled i think she's he brought her back home and thought she'd be a bit more suited to the environment here we've sort of got our own farm here and she's out in the big paddock and she's she's got her space she she's not boxed up and i think it it suits her she's yeah she's a really happy man now
Speaker 2awesome so what's the main aim for her this time around she trialed nicely there the other day i saw there at
Speaker 23longfoot yeah we were um absolutely wrapped with her i sent dozy out for a for a soft enough trial um didn't didn't ask him to do anything on her basically and um yeah look to trial her again and and have her ready to rock and roll for a good wood and hopefully she's uh competitive against some of those good sprinters this time around
Speaker 2yeah so a good wood and then a new market the tassie new market of course so that's
Speaker 23exciting yeah it's really exciting it's um it's it's just nice it's just nice to have horses that um yeah get you up in the morning and get you excited and and with good people involved as well it's um yeah it's great to have nice horses for good owners now
Speaker 2jess you've got three strong chances there friday night at lancest under the lights linda in the second regal hunter in the third and then you've got a two-pronged attack attack in race six in cool heart and street diva if i gave you a hundred dollars what would you do with it on friday night i'd
Speaker 23whack it to win on a linda beautiful
Speaker 2beautiful place at linda as well so that's race two there at lancest and friday night so um what about cool heart or street diva can you split those two
Speaker 23um well they're both really consistent mares um they've been great for the stable we we own them both um but robin road street diva really well uh last time out so if she can give her a nice ride again and she gets a little bit of luck pushing through i think she'll be right there and um dave's got a great association with cool heart she'll she'll be tough as nails as well so um i i'd love for our apprentice robin to get her first winner on one of our horses that she's put a lot of work into so um yeah that that'd be brilliant if that could happen but you know that's racing so we'll see yeah
Speaker 2that's robin lynch is speaking of your apprentice from ireland that you've taken on
Speaker 23yeah yeah she um she works really hard she's um a really really lovely girl really kind girl and um she she's having a real crack here in tassie so um it'd be it'd be great to for her to get a
Speaker 2first winner the irish girls go okay there in in tassie so um
Speaker 23absolutely yeah we brought her over we said just uh just just come coming over obviously the girls don't get much of a chance over there um we sort of said to her we've we've got erica over here and uh she absolutely flies over here so if you if you keep an eye on her and um take take note you'll be on your way
Speaker 2yep so um just follow erica burn burke who's the leading jock these days and tassie who's from ireland of course hey um yes great to have you on giddy up your team's flying um you're having results everywhere you go so we wish you the best of luck going forward for the carnival can't wait to see what silver dagger can do um when she gets the chance to perform back in melbourne and um good luck on friday night we'll jump on a linda in that second race
Speaker 23terrific there we go yeah
