Giddy Up Full Show (06/10/26)

Giddy Up with Gareth Hall broadcast live from Caulfield racecourse on Tuesday, October 6, previewing the upcoming Caulfield Carnival. The show featured extensive interviews with key racing figures ahead of Saturday's Group 1 meetings. Will Bourne discussed Kieran Marr's stable prospects, revealing Pride of Jenny will target the King Charles Stakes rather than the Cox Plate, and defending Sarana's disappointing Turnbull Stakes performance as a forgive run. Peter Moody confirmed both Shiza Alibi and Pounding will contest the Might and Power Stakes, with Shiza Alibi using it as a lead-in to the Golden Eagle. Chris Waller detailed his strong Caulfield Guineas hand, including Trombolt, Central Europe, and Wanwoven, while expressing confidence in Birdman for the Might and Power and Aliana for the Cox Plate. The show covered Carrying Rising's Randwick trial where he finished second behind Ninja, with experts calling it an acceptable pass mark ahead of The Everest. Adam Blenko provided data analysis, highlighting Tempted's career-best performance and suggesting Cosmic Crusader should target the Caulfield Cup. Barrier draws were conducted live, with Wanwoven drawing ideally at barrier 6 for the Guineas. The program also covered Ethan Brown's decision to ride Sarana over Jimmy Star in The Everest, creating jockey changes for the spring carnival.

Speaker 2Yes, good morning. This is Giddy Up with Gareth Hall, live from Caulfield on this Tuesday, the 6th of October. It's a big hello to you listening on your local SEN track at RSN 927 dials. Wherever you may be listening on the RSN and SEN app. If you're listening to us a little later on on the podcast, it's a big hello to you. And of course, watching us on Racing.com. It is a beautiful morning out here at Caulfield as we get set for the famous Caulfield Carnival, which kicks off on Saturday with the running of the Caulfield Guineas. Plus, of course, the Might and Power Stakes, which features the superstar mare in Shiza Alibi. So we're going to be out here this morning catching up with a few of the major players ahead of the carnival. But it is a big show as well. Because we're going to be talking to Zach Purton after he rides Carrying Rising in that trial at Randwick just after 9 o'clock. Plus, all of our regulars on a Tuesday morning. Our first guest, however, is right over here. Will Bourne, of course, the man that is associated with Kira Marr as his right-hand man in a way. His bloodstock agent. He's been here this morning watching over all of Kira Marr's runners ahead of the carnival. Will, thanks for joining us on this Tuesday morning. The bosses in Sydney.
Speaker 3Yeah, he's got an amazing journey coming out of quarantine and parachute trialling up there in those hot trials. So, eager to see Carrying Rising, but equally our horses.
Speaker 2Yeah, amazing journeys in the Golden Eagle, of course. And I was having a chat to Kieran on Friday. He's been into quarantine a few times. And we're going to have a chat with Zach Purton a little later on. But I think everyone's excited to see what Carrying Rising can do today. But I was blown away with what Kieran had to say about Carrying Rising.
Speaker 3Well, yeah. It rang in my, what was it? In the Horses' Gallop, I think seven days ago, it rang to see our parish for an amazing journey when he just kept talking about Carrying Rising. I've got no guide. He got no feedback on those two horses whatsoever. It's this. It's strong. I was like, yeah, okay.
Speaker 2Tempted. Johnny O'Neill said she's the second best horse in the world after watching her on the weekend. Do you think she's any chance of
Speaker 3being in Carrying Rising? Yeah, I mean, you're always a chance when you're that good. Yeah. You know, when she's that good, he only needs to be off slightly. Yeah. But she's going to give him a bit of a start. Yeah. So it's going to be hard, but that's racing, so yeah.
Speaker 2You found the next episode. He was superb there in the Dane Hill. Is there any chance he'll go to an Everest? I'd say no.
Speaker 3No. He'll go into Cornwall and Phil Cunningham's coming down for the race. That's always been the plan, and I doubt they'll waver from that. Okay, then. He was awesome, wasn't he? Good, strong lake, wasn't he? Yeah. Good ride. Strong. I liked, you know, especially Colts when they pin the ears back in. I want to do it. That's the biggest thing. I think that there's nothing better
Speaker 2watching Zara get busy. Obviously, he had to choose between him and Mbube. Obviously, this horse is an expensive Colt. There's plenty on the line, and there's no better person, really, to have on board than Mzara. Especially at this time of the year. He's back to his best.
Speaker 3He got it right last year. What did he have, 10 tyres and Observer, the two Colts? So, yeah, he's strong in the finish, and he's very patient and times it very well, especially down the straight. Pride and Jenny. So, Cox, Plate or King Charles?
Speaker 2Tony and Kieran were telling me King Charles. King Charles, yeah. So, I was talking to Tony. I think he prefers the 1600 to 1600 because the Empire Rose is the big goal instead of the 2000 back to the 1600.
Speaker 3Yeah, I haven't spoken to him about the theory, but Kieran was just giving me the discussion yesterday. They were sort of talking about it, and they've left together. That's exciting. She's come back amazing.
Speaker 2Fetal, really, for a nine-year-old.
Speaker 3I feel like she's been around as long as I've worked for Kieran. I can't remember her not being in the stable. It just feels like forever.
Speaker 2Hey, the 150th running of the Caulfield Cup, Kieran Marr's going to play a major part. He's still got the favourite, Sarana, after it was beaten nearly 20 weeks in a Turnbull Stakes on Saturday. If you're back, Sarana, should we be concerned?
Speaker 3I mean, it doesn't make you feel good. No. But he's a cult. He does have that in him, and it was that kind of race that you could put a line through nearly all of them. Nothing really made ground. It was a high tempo. It was a wet track. And he is a cult, and he's a thinker, and I can see him just not getting into the race and then not getting interested. He would have that in him. So, obviously, if you've taken the future odds, it doesn't make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. Can he come out and just blow them away in the Caulfield Cup? He certainly can. He's good enough to, and, you know, back to the course that he won at. And he is, as I said, he's that kind of a thinker and a cult, and Jack and Kieran have done an amazing job for where we were, you know, eight weeks ago with him to now. So, he's got that in him, and you speak to Johnny Murtaugh, and he did say, he goes, he doesn't fill you with confidence when he works at home. Like, he's not a great workhorse. He just does what he has to, and I can easily see him just spitting in the dummy and not being interested on the weekend. Do we forgive? Do we forgive St. George, your horse? Yeah. I mean, I did expect him to finish off a bit better, but I would have thought that for a few horses in the race. All right, then.
Speaker 2What about Point of Law? He was the horse that Will was able to get a deal done with the King. I don't know how he did it, but he did it. And he's in quarantine at Werribee, formerly trained by the Gosdons. Can he win a Caulfield Cup for a start?
Speaker 3We'll clarify that we can thank Eileen Marr for that. I had nothing to do with that. He needs to get in. I think he's around 20th, 21. There's a chance. There's a chance. We'll know today. He's obviously well publicised. He's very enthusiastic in his work and took it upon himself to do a few extra laps the other day, as we were talking about.
Speaker 2So he did a V-16 around Werribee.
Speaker 3He had the rider on. Oh, did he? Yeah, yeah. He just decided to take it upon himself to do an extra bit of work, but he was fine. He pulled up great. He's a very natural stayer. It was actually, to say the least, it was quite impressive, and he hasn't missed a beat since. So he's a very young horse, only had four starts, and you can see a new environment, inexperienced, so he could easily do that. But he's been working fine since, and he just keeps eating up, and he looks good. He's put on weight, and he's a very athletic, natural stayer with stamina. So if he gets in with 51 kilos. Should we back him? If you've come this far, you just wait until he gets in the race. There's no point backing him. There's no point backing him now.
Speaker 2Is Mitt Allure still your best Melbourne Cup chance?
Speaker 3Definitely. Yeah, he's going really well. He's in a great spot compared to last year, going off what Kieran tells me and how he feels and where he is in the preparation. He's just going better and a happier horse and bouncing off that Brisbane campaign. Kieran, his words are not mine. He's not chasing his tail in terms of his preparation, so he's just spot on for the Melbourne Cup. Is Zara right, or is he just waiting on how
Speaker 2half yours goes on Saturday?
Speaker 3Zara's right. I actually don't know who's booked. He's your best mate. We don't really talk about horses.
Speaker 2Now, Royal Supremacy worked nicely today. There's a few other three-year-olds here.
Speaker 3Has worked nicely, or will work nicely?
Speaker 2Yeah, no. Well, we are live just after 8 o'clock, and he has worked nicely. What else have you got today?
Speaker 3Salty Pearl, tough as hell. He's going
Speaker 2for the Turac.
Speaker 3Sarah Fox in Tornado Valley, Unit 5 for the Guineas. So, yeah, a few horses, but Salty Pearl, I reckon she's a very sneaky chance. She's hard. She loves the track, and you wouldn't dismiss her.
Speaker 2Who rides Warnie?
Speaker 3Jeez, I don't know. In the Turac. You got me on the spot there. I don't know. He's going well. He needs things to go his way, but he's flying. Actually, I've got no clue who's riding. I should probably know.
Speaker 2You should know, but, jeez, your stable's flying. He's a great trainer, Kieran Marr. We all know that. His record speaks for itself. But last Sunday to Saturday, like, Tempted stood up. Obviously, the next episode. Dominated Caulfield here on Manukato Stakes Day. The team seems to be ready to go. Yep. When it matters most.
Speaker 3Yeah, I was waiting for a question there. No. But he's got them firing. Hopefully, it continues through the spring. It just probably reflects the team. Yeah. How's Timmy?
Speaker 2Yeah, good. He's fine. Has Aussie worked out a deal yet with the Everest, or has Simon heard yet? He was flirting with the
Speaker 3idea of an Everest. I'm unsure whether he was going. He's going to go through with it, but, you know, that's between him and Kieran, and they'll work it out. Yeah. Any winners for us? Any winners? I don't know what I've got for you. No. I'd back Salty Pearl and the Turak.
Speaker 2All right, then. Yeah, I'll have her.
Speaker 3We'll have something on Salty
Speaker 2Pearl. Yeah. What about Jigsaw? Great to see him back. Cindy Oldison? She's just behind us. Is she? She's got to kick me, is it? No, it's not going to kick you. Good on you, Will. Thanks for joining us on Giddy Up to kick off the show. I appreciate it. Thanks, guys. Cheers. We'll catch up with you next week. I've got a new segment involving Will Bourne. So we'll catch up with Cindy Oldison a little later on. That's it. There's Jigsaw. All right. He looks a million dollars as well. He goes around the Scalacci first up on Saturday, but this is Giddy Up. Ah, right. We're at Caulfield for Breakfast with the Stars. It is great to have your company. So the big news there, the pride of Jenny is going to the King Charles.
Speaker 1on 0-4-double-9-7-3-6. 736 live across Australia this is Giddy Up with Gareth Hall welcome back to Giddy Up
Speaker 2we're going to catch up here with Mark Sauer at Caulfield Mark you've got the right on half yours in a Caulfield cup
Speaker 4yeah Jamie's hard to go in Sydney so I'm happy to have a go on him yeah I thought his run was pretty good the other day so he's got to be a live chance
Speaker 2yeah 57 and a half do you think you can win a Caulfield cup
Speaker 4look it's right up there but he's good enough we'll see when the final field comes out and Barry's and all that it's probably when you can really know but yeah he's definitely got a chance for sure there's nothing better
Speaker 2than watching MZara in full flight in spring mate do you feel that you're at the top of your game
Speaker 4yeah had a good couple of weeks but like I say primed myself for this time of year so things are going alright
Speaker 2yeah in the next episode did you expect that on Saturday look
Speaker 4his first trial we're all scratching our heads a bit but he got better each one and I had full faith in Kieran you know having him right for the right day so I thought he'd run well I was just I had to see it race day and it was good to see him do that
Speaker 2have you got a ride in the Caulfield Guineas
Speaker 4Caulfield Guineas we're going to see our call me coach here at Gallops this morning so he's a bit of the X Factor one coming through a different path of a Cranbourne maiden win but look he's got a heap of ability so we'll see how he gallops this morning whether we push on they reckon he's pretty good yeah he's he got a bit wrong at Caulfield sorry at Cranbourne so probably didn't see the best of him but just get him to go around this way the best he can so like I say if he can gallop good this morning and then he'll he won't be running unless he's a good chance
Speaker 2no Middle Earth is he a Melbourne Cup ride
Speaker 4I think so it's looking that way yeah Kieran's sort of got one one race pick for him for the for the spring so I like that set up when he's got his eyes on one big race so I thought he ran okay the other day didn't really love the ground he's going to be better than a few of his rivals across the line so I think he runs maybe Moonee Valley Cup so there we go
Speaker 2what else are you looking forward to
Speaker 4Saturday um well it's over the bridge it's probably the week after that's Caulfield Cup uh yeah I don't know I'm really call me coach I'm really excited to see how he goes to be honest so I think he's a horse with a heap of potential so let's hope he goes right here this morning
Speaker 2alright mate we're going to let you go but appreciate you joining us here on Guinea
Speaker 4cheers no worries Gary
Speaker 2Sam Friedman has just watched his call me coach go around Caulfield did he please you enough to send him to the Guineas on Saturday Sam yeah he worked well
Speaker 5um yeah I think we'll probably accept with him this morning for sure and obviously see how he is over the next few days but um yeah he's quite raw you know he probably hasn't had the perfect prep to get to a Guineas but no doubt he's got the ability to be lining up just need to see him execute well and get on the right legs handle a bit of bit of pressure and um yeah he's he's up to the grade just got to get it to work out Saturday
Speaker 2yeah so um obviously you throw him into the deep end but um if if he's good enough you've got to give him an opportunity I would imagine
Speaker 5yeah I think that's it you know like the Guineas is only here once um we think he's got as much talent as most of the three odds we've taken to a Guineas before so Super Seth yeah he wouldn't be he wouldn't be out of place alongside him but Super Seth had had real grounding before he got to the Guineas you know he'd had a lengthy two year old prep he'd come back and run in some high pressure three year old races before he lined up so different um different lead up you know this horse is probably six months away from seeing the best of him um but yeah talent wise you know he'd be up there
Speaker 2he's a cop by done deal so what do you do with him after the Guineas
Speaker 5well hopefully we're entertaining some stud deals would be yes yes yes would be the best result but um don't know I mean look he's sharp you know he ran the fastest last 400 and 200 of the meeting the other night sitting outside the lead in his second start sections of Hawkesbury were good he's got some speed but um I've no doubt in time he'd run 2000 but um you know whether he needs to do that this prep or next prep you know we'll just get through Sunday
Speaker 2were you happy with your filly overexcited in the Dane Hill a little disappointed
Speaker 5yeah she um almost a bit too sharp out of the gates for her own good I was keen to actually get the back of Mark pre-race um sort of ended up well in front and then peeled to the inside which was a bit of a bit of an awkward spot to get to and she sort of even thought she was looking at the other horses looking at the crowd quite raw so I think we'll probably get her back around the bend we'll bring her to the Blue Sapphire Caulfield Cup day still hold yeah good opinion of her but she just got things a bit wrong the other day
Speaker 2what else you got to look forward to during this Caulfield Cup carnival Point Barrow where do we get to see her
Speaker 5yeah well she's dual nominated Saturday the Scalacci and then also the Mayor's Race we'll make a call probably later today on which way we go with her um 1100 possibly appeals a little bit more but um the Mayor's Race probably looks a little more straight forward so work over as she goes
Speaker 2what else you've got there for Saturday to kick off the carnival
Speaker 5um in Karuna she'll line up um more than likely in the Mayor's Race but again she's dual nominated so we'll assess both races um and then maybe VIP he'll run in the benchmark 80-1700 pretty progressive horse yeah he's building a really good record he'll have to step up again with a bit of weight but um he'll be a good chance there and what about the mighty Tom Kitten he was sensationally absent yeah he's been going well so he gave us a nice shout there at the 300 when he sort of loomed up but um you know yeah he ran a good race so he'll probably stay up there and run in the Craven I think it is in a couple of weeks um 1800 group 2 worth three quarters of a million so again just trying to pick off those ones just below the good ones and then hopefully we'll see him down here on the final day for either the mile or the 2000 and um yeah that'll be the plan there
Speaker 2have you got a bet for us punters on Giddy Up
Speaker 5this week I'll wait and see barriers and everything like that but um yeah nothing I'm sorry it's hard to be confident these races on Saturday most of our runners this week are here at Caulfield so I'll have to see the gates first
Speaker 2alright then Sam we wish you the best of luck that's great news call me coach to go to the Giddies hopefully anyway um he's an exciting colt so looking forward to seeing what he can do cheers there we go there's Sam Friedman joining us here at Caulfield it is a beautiful morning we're going to take another break and we'll come back with plenty more on this Tuesday this is Giddy Up all thanks to Bet365 join the conversation
Speaker 1text us on 0499 736 736 live across Australia this is Giddy Up with Gareth Hall
Speaker 6great to have you back here on Giddy Up ladies and gentlemen Gareth Hall is going to be with us he's making his way down from the Caulfield race course place Paul Sebastiani here with you we're about to hear from champion trainer Peter Moody who of course was running his watchful eye over Shiza Alibi and his gun stayer pounding who are preparing for runs further in their campaign in the coming weeks so let's have a listen and watch the vision of Peter Moody out at Pacton earlier this morning with updates on his star mare Shiza Alibi and his gun stayer pounding morning all
Speaker 7Peter Moody at Pacton on Tuesday morning the 6th of May Stable made some pounding and Shiza Alibi both did a nice piece of work on the course proper worked over 7 furlongs Quiggan home 3 they worked separate they didn't work together pounding worked about 400 metres in front of Shiza Alibi at this stage thinking both go to the might and power the group 1 2000 Caulfield Saturday I thought it was good and solid looked nice work from both horses Zach Spain on pounding Luke Nolan on Shiza Alibi so I'm going to Action look good see how they recover here and how they look pounding is going to be first through the gut Look nice and sharp from the old boys No, I just take him home the long way mateo that's pounding I don't know if I've seen him look better that old bugger She's alibi Luke Very happy very pleased Recovery looks enormous Pounding having a little bit more on the blow. That's probably where you expect where we're at now preparation He was obviously good in the fan last week or two weeks ago And she's alibi so listen really pleased with where both horses are at Pounding probably uses the might and power as a lead towards the John Cup And she's alibi uses the might and power as a lead towards the Golden Eagle But very happy with both horses They're recovering He's good pounding having a nice sharp blow, but both in good order Tuesday morning the 6th of October
Speaker 2Good on Peter Moody for giving us that access to his two star Gallopers Especially she's alibi ahead of the might and power stakes at Caulfield on Saturday She steps out to the 2,000 meters for the first time. She dominates the market We're about to hear from Chris Waller who did a media conference after all of his stars that worked there at Caulfield Tuesday morning ahead of of course Saturday's race meeting at Caulfield he had a host of Caulfield guineas chances that he galloped there on the course proper at Caulfield today But he also had Birdman who looks a million dollars Birdman. Of course, he won the Underwood Stakes He was far too good for Cosmic Crusader who franked that form in a Turnbull stake So he will give she's alibi no doubt something to think about but I can't wait to see what she can do over 2,000 meters and it's clear that he's got pounding going around with she's alibi moves because he's a He's the people's champ. rounding um so he'll go to a might and power then go to a geelong cup after that it's 24 minutes past eight as i pointed out before chris waller was at track work at caulfield this morning he's a busy man so he decided to do all in interview with all the media that were there and this is what he had to say this morning after a big team of his work there on the course proper at caulfield on this tuesday morning
Speaker 8morning uh start with trombolt yeah trombolt
Speaker 9had a good look around the track um which is good that's why we bring them here um he's a very talented colt with a group one next to his name he's running the golden rose was certainly a pass mark and he'll appreciate stepping up to 1600 meters here so i hope we hopefully we can see him draw a good barrier which i think will be a big
Speaker 10thing would that allow him to sit a little bit closer because he's got that racing soul he likes to slowly get away and then rebuild but would a good barrier maybe enable him to just be in
Speaker 9the race yeah for sure um yeah good barrier is always important in the caulfield guineas or any race so yeah naturally my horses if they draw wide they'd generally drift back find a spot relax get the first half of the race right and build but you just yeah you're banking on so much luck and speed to be able to win so yeah if he draws a good gate he could be closer and what was it for him to have a look around here and just get acclimatized very very important um yeah so yeah just they just seem to come back on race day and be more relaxed it's no different to us a horse i think they get familiar with with being here before and um you don't want their eyes popping out of their head you want them to be focusing on their racing so it's so important golden rose is obviously a big race but has this one been circled a long way out as well as a grand final yeah it has um jj atkins winner um you hope that they've got enough speed to win a golden rose and i hope they do and i hope they do and i hope they do and i hope rows but I think barrier draws and the likes probably played a part in that so yeah this has been the target race all along. Central Europe looked to work pretty well out there yeah he he was we just got to make sure he doesn't get too fresh he was very fresh in the golden rows and subsequently he led it went too quick so hopefully if he drew wide yeah he can go forward and roll but if not he could just sit in behind the leaders and and conserve a bit of energy because being a son of Frankel and a horse we've got a high opinion of it's such an important race
Speaker 1for him. Warwoven's obviously a big favourite but you said enough that you could get over Warwoven?
Speaker 9Well you're hoping with Warwoven that the mile might test him out but his win in the golden rows was very good so he's certainly the benchmark. What does the team look like now? Who's diameter heading in it? Yeah we'll most likely have four runners in the Caulfield Guineas something's burning he was just narrowly beaten by diameter the other day we've had a gear change is to give the rider a bit more control if he can conserve a bit of energy early he could perhaps make the difference up in diameter he won the stud stakes here at Caulfield so he's a very fit horse he was placed as a two-year-old in a group one race so there's a sense of timing there for for a son of Brazen Bow which means a lot to us.
Speaker 10By not running Birdman in the Turnbill gee it sets up a good clash this weekend with Shoes Alibi and a couple of others in the Might and Power are you confident you might be able to cause a little bit of an upset there?
Speaker 9I'm just I'm not sort of thinking about it too much I'm not expecting in terms of like to beat her easily or anything like that but I know our horse runs 2,000 meters so I guess with Shoes Alibi they'll be hoping she gets 2,000 meters so we just have to get her to fail she runs to her ratings we can't beat her but over 2,000 meters it gives us a chance and Birdman's in great form his win the other day was very good and he looks to have come on nicely since that and that's
Speaker 10been franked as well by Cosmic Crusader winning so well in the Turnbill stake so what's been the key to Birdman's progression over the last 12 months?
Speaker 9I guess maturity like he's shown that he's a good horse but now doing it at group one level and winning with a bit of hand the other day was was pretty good to see so I guess maturity and age is the key. You've had a great handle in the guineas the last couple of years have you got the winner in your four? I hope so I hope so I'm obviously the favorites there that we we don't have but they're all well prepared it's a race that's so important to Colts and a race we pick out a long way in advance of the final week of training so they were just here this morning for a good look around but I'm happy
Speaker 1with them. How did Birdman work today?
Speaker 9Birdman was good Craig Williams was aboard he was just full of compliments getting off the horse his action was great. How did he do today? Well I think Birdman has done a really good job he's done a really good job he's done a really good job he's done a really good job he's done a really good job he's done a really good job he's done a really good job his attitude and his recovery all all first class so couldn't have been happy with this
Speaker 10morning's workout. Aliana big tick on the weekend in the Turnbull ahead of a Cox Plate?
Speaker 9Yes she was probably one run away from a peak so that was pleasing to see it was a solid test should bring her on nicely and we've got three weeks to prepare for for the Cox Plate this year at Flemington so exciting few weeks ahead.
Speaker 8Just with Trombo last night having been to Brisbane they say it Caulfield can undo a Sydney three-year-old having been away to Brisbane and had that trip. Does that make a difference on the gate?
Speaker 9Well, I guess you can only really tell about horses when they race under pressure. Even training is completely different to race pressure, but he has got a very good attitude. He's a lovely big horse. He's got all the signs to me to say that he's a good miler. So, yeah, I think barrier draw would be important for a Sydney horse, coming down here, drawing a good gate, where the horses can be held together around the bend and then straightened for home with a bit in the reserve tank always helps.
Speaker 10How many have you got in the tour rack this week?
Speaker 9We're still working out final numbers. Panova will come down from Sydney. Sun God worked well this morning. Lady Shenandoah, we're still working out with her. So, yeah, just a little bit of fine-tuning. Solcombe, pretty important race for him on Saturday just to pass that ballot and get a bit closer to where he needs to be. Yeah, Solcombe. Solcombe runs in the Herbert Power. This year set weights and penalties, which should suit him well. He drew wide in the Bark Cummings last week and the wet tracks we opted to pull out. Yeah, he has to run top three to qualify, so it's an important day for him, but Craig Williams was aboard, very happy with him. He rode him as a younger horse, and he said he's matured a lot. His action was good and also a very fit horse. His story's well documented, but do you feel like you're getting him third up now? Yeah. You should start BC. You've seen the right type of performance. Very pleased with the second up run. The improvement from first to second was great, and there's no reason to suggest he couldn't get back to where he was in his third up run, so that's exciting.
Speaker 2Thanks. Thanks. So that was Chris Waller talking to a big group of the media there at Caulfield this morning. So he's going to have a few chances in the Caulfield Guineas, just having a look at that market now with Bet365. Now, that barrier draw, will be done today at 9.30. We'll take some of that barrier draw. It'll be played live on racing.com. So if you're listening or watching us on racing.com, you'll take the coverage of the barrier draw at 9.30, and here on Giddy Up on SCN Track and RSC 927, we'll tell you what is going on with that barrier draw, but sometimes on radio barrier draw, we can become a little boring. So we'll analyze the barrier draw as it unfolds, and I think Nigel Carmody is hosting today. If he's catching up with anyone important, we'll cross out to Nigel and play that interview, but the barrier draw will be live on both RSC 927 SCN Track and racing.com. After nine o'clock, Zach Purton will join us. So looking forward to that. Adam Blenko is not far away as well. He'll join me just after 9.30. So Pauli Sebastiani, having a look at the Caulfield Guineas market with Bet365. Yes. Well, Woven, he wasn't there at Caulfield today. He's at 250. Blind. Rays wasn't there. He's at $4. Trombolt at $7. Call me coach at $13. Campion D'Italia at $13. Where's my horse? Central Europe's a big prize, $26, after watching him gallop this morning.
Speaker 6How did he look, Gareth?
Speaker 2He looked a million dollars. There's not much of him. Fred Kersley rode him there at Caulfield this morning. Diamond was very good at $13. He worked extremely well after winning the stud stakes the other day at Caulfield. So Chris Waller's going to be hard to beat in a Caulfield Guineas, but Wall Woven deserves to be. He's going to be a favourite after his Golden Rose victory and Blind Rays is the big hope for Victoria. Who do you like?
Speaker 6Well, Woven's hard to go past, isn't he? And we did see Lindemann as a short price favourite with that Sydney form. I know it's the older form, but he didn't really handle that Melbourne way of going when he decided to take a right-hand turn when the barriers opened. So how Wall Woven handles the Caulfield track, which has its own quirks, is one of great intrigue, of course, but there's a reason he's that short price favourite, Gareth, because he's winning the gold. And Rose was spectacular. And he's probably still got improvement to come, Gareth. And if he improves off that run and can handle Caulfield, he's going to be very, very hard to beat. And maybe he can go onto a Cox plate, as Bjorn alluded to a couple of weeks ago, Gareth.
Speaker 2I think that was the interesting interview out of Sam Friedman today, or the interesting point that he brung up himself was basically that this call me coach is one of the, well, he compares it to some of the better three-year-olds he's taken to a Caulfield Guinness, which of course includes Super Seth, who ran down Alligator Blood that year. So that is a massive compliment for call me coach. They gave him a good workout today. So I think Mark Saar put one around his backside just to keep his mind on the job, just to see if he would handle Caulfield. And obviously he's passed with flying colours, so he'll take his spot in the Caulfield. He's well respected in the market. He's at $13. So he's the X Factor. He hasn't met any of these horses that he competes against on Saturday, but it's a big test for him. So it'll be interesting to see how he goes. As I said, Berman worked nicely. I wonder if he can beat Shee's alibis, $1.40 in the might and power stakes. Very unlikely. It looks like Shee's alibi is on track to perform well again. Berman's at $3.25 and then big prices for the rest. And the King Charles, Pride of Jenny at $7.50. Charles, I thought, would just come in a little bit more because he just slaps up the tempo that Pride of Jenny provides him. So he's at $6. Autumn Glow's at $1.25. Personally, I reckon she's very good, Autumn Glow, and she's a special horse. There's no doubt about that. But I've got no doubt she would prefer Pride of Jenny not to be in the King Charles.
Speaker 6I completely agree. High tempo race with the speed that she's going to provide. Did Will have a glint in his eye about the nine-year-old mare when you spoke to him?
Speaker 2Not really. He's got more of a glint in his eye about the next episode because he was the one that picked that horse. And it was interesting to what he said about Saran that I wouldn't worry, just forgive him for that run. It was a complete forgive run. And this point of all is an interesting runner. There's some good judges telling me that you should have backed him at 100 to 1. He has bolted at Werribee and he took off on the rider. They say he got through that okay. He's yet to gain a start in the Caulfield Cup, but look out if he does. So he's an interesting runner.
Speaker 6Okay. Looking at futures markets for the Caulfield Cup. He's a big price, I reckon. At the moment, he is about, what is he? 30 to 1. Yeah. In the markets. Yeah. So he's still got to get a, obviously got to get a run, but definitely want to keep an eye on from what Will has said.
Speaker 2And Wolf Gap is going to the Guineas. So he's going to the Guineas, but I think they're preferring Cormie Coach from that stable.
Speaker 6Cormie Coach is an $11 chance in the Derby as well.
Speaker 2I don't think he'll go to the Derby. He won't, he won't progress that far.
Speaker 6Diameter an $11 chance as well. I don't think he'll get 2,500 diameter.
Speaker 2Um, we're going to take a break. Adam Blenko is not far away and I'm looking forward to catching up with Adam, who has analyzed all of this. All of the data from the weekend with his racing and sports.com team. So he'll discuss what happened there on the weekend from a data perspective, from a ratings perspective. We'll also preview the opening day of the Caulfield Cup Carnival with him as well.

Let's catch up with Adam Blenko from racing and sports.com. G'day to you, Adam.
Speaker 11Morning. How are you? Sounded a little nasally there, Gareth.
Speaker 2Yeah, well, I've had hay fever. It's been killing me, but I've taken some medication today and I seem to be a lot better, Louie, don't you reckon? I struggled yesterday. Um, my eyes were watering. It was like I was Chris Waller after winning a group one. Um, but anyway, we feel a hundred times better because when you're hosting a show like this goes for four hours with two minute breaks and your nose is always running and your eyes are watering, um, and you're always on camera. It's a very, you know, um, very awkward, keep going, keep going. Yeah, anyway, um, you just got to keep on powering through from time to time. And it caught me by surprise because I've never really had bad hay fever before. But anyway, um, it's good to be worth it when
Speaker 11you've got good guests.
Speaker 2Yes, yes. Um, especially someone like you, I saw a lot of your racing and sports.com team out at Caulfield this morning. I, I conducted a few interviews, watched some track work and, um, but everyone's excited about this trial. I know you love your trials just after nine o'clock, Cain Rising steps out at Randwick once again.
Speaker 11Well, well, um, we
Speaker 2might've lost you a little bit. You're frozen on us. So, uh, we'll see if we can fix that problem. Um, he was working beautifully. I think you're back. I don't know if someone called you again, Adam. You're very popular. No, I've been.
Speaker 11Um, I am, I am at all times. Um, no, I got kicked out of my garden cause we've got a tradie around. So I've been squirreled away into the shed. Okay. Um, so that might affect, that might affect the, um, the connection somewhat.
Speaker 2No, you're sounding okay. So, um, what have you made of the news? So Cain Rising trials today. We're all looking forward to seeing what he can do. Um, it'd be interesting to see how he does trial.
Speaker 11Yeah. Well, I think we all hope that he trials woefully.
Speaker 2Yes. Yes. Um.
Speaker 11For the sake of the race and for the sake of the buildup and for the sake of someone who's got four hours a day, as you tell us about airtime to fill him trialing terribly would be, um, would be the best result I'd say for the, for the race, but I doubt he will what with him being a superstar. So no, he should, uh, he should blitz around there and, and look pretty good. And I think we've been saying for a couple of weeks that it's, um, I get the feeling that there's a, which seems ridiculous given how good a horse he is and that he's been the best horse on the planet for two years now, or the best part of two years. Um, I think there's a bit of a point to prove with the camp in general. I think they've probably got a bit of a chip on their shoulder. So I think, uh, we're expecting them to really cut the ribbons in the Everest itself and I, I don't think they'll be playing games in the trial either. I'd expect them to, um, to go and make a right mess of them. Cause yeah, I think they've got a, I think they've got a bit of a point to prove. Do you think that?
Speaker 2Yeah, well, I think they, I think that they reckon they do. He wasn't at his best there the other day when he was here last year, of course, for the, for the, um, for the, for the Everest, but. Uh, they've learned their lessons. They say from last year, they've, he's a lot fitter. They reckon arriving in Australia than he was last year. And even if he does trial, not great. I don't think we're going to be fooled again. Are we really, um, it doesn't really matter how he trials. Um, Zach will play it down when we interview him after the trial, he'll go, I just didn't get on that right leg as much as I wanted him to, you know, and tempted was very good the other day. So he'll play it down. But at the end of the day, if he turns up like he does in Hong Kong, as good as tempted was on the weekend, um, she would have to go to a new level to be competitive with cawing, rising at his best. So, yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 11Is she the best sprinter we've had post nature strip? I think she might be creeping into that space now.
Speaker 2Do you think she is? I think that's, um, there's your number.
Speaker 11So I think she's probably, no, there's one better. So jolly and Jimmy, uh, one, two, four and tempted to join them at one, two, four off the weekend. So career best performance in the premiere. Um, and those closing splits hinted at her being potentially even a little bit better still she'll need to be, of course. Yeah. Um, but she's clearly come back in blitzing good order, but yeah, jolly and Jimmy have been that good and they've run over 125 and six times. And, and I think gig has been up there a little bit as well. And Bellini patina was, was consistent. And then I wish I win is the one horse to have run a pound better than that in the post nature strip era. So she's, um, she's got a pound to find on. I wish I. I wish I win on peak, but I would say on bulk of work now, she's probably, I don't think there'd be too many people that would say there's much between them. So she's, um, yeah, she might be, she's certainly set up to be the best sprinter since nature strip.
Speaker 2And I think it's great for Australian racing there. We've got some horse, we've got a horse that's put their hand up to say, okay, then I am, I'm, I'm a clearly a best sprinter in the land at the moment. And I'm going to have a fair dinkum crack at calling rising. Um, I've gone. Yeah, we needed it. Yeah. We've gone past jolly star and Jimmy star on the X factor coming into Randwick. I'm sort of the unknown I've improved from last year. So is calling rising, but bring it on. And I guess the key to her is drawing low. Um, so she, so she doesn't have to be too far off carrying rising.
Speaker 11Yeah. She'd want to be able to sort of put a latch onto his tail somewhat, at least put a bit of a cross hairs on the, on the middle of Zach's back and see if you can't keep up. Um, and how long can you hold on for and, and sort of tail him and hope that hope to hell that he has an off day and you can knock him off at the death there. But yeah, she did, she closed with real, with real verb on the weekend. The, um, the visuals there were matched by the sectionals themselves. So she's, um, yeah, she's, she's doing, she's taking the steps that she needs to take. And she's, she set herself up to be, I think you're right. If she's, you know, she's already probably we're saying the equivalent of the good sprinters that we've got in there. Um, but she is the X factor as well, isn't she? So she's got, she's got both of them. Those boxes ticked. I suppose Jimmy spent his whole life being something of an X factor horse and he probably hasn't lost it. He was fairly dynamic the other day as well, but I think there's, you've used the right word there, Gareth. She's got the unknown. And I think we, I think we can safely say at this stage, we, we know most of what we're going to know about Jimmy.
Speaker 2Yeah. So, um, she can go above that one, two, four way. I don't think, I don't know if Jimmy can now, but they're going to make a decision with Jimmy star. Like they're trying to get the best possible deal for an Everest. I think they're trying to work. Work out what that is probably getting more for third than second and first. yeah so um yeah and whether they they waste a run in a while enough it's wasting a run but they go to an everest or even a sydney stakes and then go down the straight at flemington or they just can they keep him fresh and have that crack down the straight apart from that i think we know the field um it's difficult for the slot holders to get horses basically because of the carring rising factor and i guess now the tempted factor as well uh so yeah it's not going to outside the top two or three i don't think it's going to be a vintage everest this year
Speaker 11adam no it's certainly a different shape um probably in some sense it is a vintage everest because you'll have the the world's best horse in there which is which is you know rare if you like but it's you're right there's it changes the shape of things dramatically and it's obviously changed the shape of um doing deals and slot holding and such which is um was bound to happen i was sort of it was interesting that the everest sort of came along on the back of black caviar so we we've had a period there even with nature strip in there as good as he was at his absolute peak for much of his life he was vulnerable as well um so we haven't had a sort of invulnerable one on the scene in the time that the everest has existed so it has changed things it is something new in that
Speaker 2sense yeah um that's the everest what would you do with cosmic crusader i think uncle bob will make his decision today we're standing by waiting for him to send us a text does he go to a caulfield i assume
Speaker 11you'll be the first text
Speaker 2hopefully uncle bob a hero of the
Speaker 11west like yourself yes
Speaker 2yes
Speaker 11um um it's a good decision to have to make i would say um i hadn't thought of him as a caulfield cup horse but then i sort of thought i was in the camp on the weekend that he he he got beat fair and square by birdman two weeks ago and it wasn't going to get any easier now with with delius and aliana and co um but he did he took a step up and sort of ran basically the same level of performance that we saw from birdman two weeks ago so he improved again in in a tough 2000 meters so maybe a caulfield cup is is the right race for him yeah um certainly ratings wise there's a big bulk of horses lining up to to run in a caulfield cup better than 115 but worse than 120 there's this massive massive glut of them that that are sort of filling the the caulfield cup market and field at the moment he's now proved that he's a he's a good bit better than that so um and yeah he'd look at half the oars there last year's winner and probably the the pin-up horse and top weight going to to this year's edition and think well if i've got him in the rearview mirror like that And, gee, a Caulfield Cup is very achievable and very gettable for me. So, yeah, he changed things a little bit there on the weekend, didn't he? It was Turnbull Day. It's supposed to be moving day. And he made a big move.
Speaker 2So, Bob asked me what I would do. I said, I'll leave it to the experts, Bob. I'd say I'd go in both and do a Northerly back in 2002. But he was going, like, he goes, I don't know much about the internationals. Spoken like a true Westie. Yeah. He goes, I don't know much about the internationals. He goes, I'm scared of the Japanese. I said, Bob, there's no Japanese, I don't think, in a Caulfield Cup this year. He goes, oh, that's good. And then he goes, you know, can I beat Sir Dillius and Eliana third up in a Cox Plate when they should be a lot better, especially off a fast tempo Turnbull Stakes at their previous run? And if it's dry, does that make them harder to beat compared to me on a soft track? So, he was weighing it all up, Bob. So, if he goes to you from racingandsports.com, because the punters' preamble would be favourite show, and he's listening to you, what would you tell him to do?
Speaker 11Yeah, Bob would be a massive friend of the punters' preamble. I would tell him to run in the Caulfield Cup now. The other thing about the Caulfield Cup is it's first. So, you can run in the Caulfield Cup and you don't have to write the Cox Plate off just yet. As you say, you can go full Northerly if it all works out. So, I would run in the Caulfield Cup because to not run in it would be to forego. To forego it completely. The other thing is, as I say, there's a glut of horses that he's now proven himself to be better than going to the Caulfield Cup. And you're right, Aliana and Dilius, perhaps. I think Dilius was probably a touch disappointing on the weekend, but not so disappointing that his peak isn't still well within range. Aliana looks on track, you'd have to say, to run to her level in a Cox Plate. And I think with the yard, we sort of. They've said Cox Plate the whole way through, and I suspect they'll get it right and she'll peak in the Cox Plate. It's a big performance and then you've got Birdman in there. I think they'd be mad not to come down with Chow Wolf and run his race in there as well. And so, we're starting to put a big bulk of horses in that 1-2-4-5 category in the Cox Plate, which is, you know, head and shoulders above what's going towards the Caulfield Cup. So, I'd be very tempted to take the easier option for plenty of cash and run in the Caulfield Cup with, as you say, out having to rule the Cox Plate out. Because if he won the Caulfield Cup and won it well, he'd all of a sudden be, you know, he'd have that little angle going to a Cox Plate as well. He'd have a lot of fans being, you know, turning around quickly off a Caulfield Cup backing trip. I think people would be pretty excited about that because you have a very different setup then to a horse like Delius, who's only third up, and these horses who are coming off softer runs. So, yeah, I'd be doing that, I think. The more I talk about it, the more I convince myself.
Speaker 2The great Dean Lester said to me, the late, great Dean Lester, he said, "You know what, Gareth? The most underrated build up or preparation towards a Cox Plate is the Caulfield Cup." He goes, "Most horses, if they're any good, run well in a Caulfield Cup and then drop back to a Cox Plate." But not too many of them do it these days. So, yeah, I think, Bob, like, just reading between the lines, and I can, I could have, I might have misread all of this, but I reckon he'll go to the Caulfield Cup. The 150th running, he gets 56. He probably won't get that weight again. He's better than those handicapped internationals. He's a proper weight for age horse. He gets 56. He's handled Caulfield before. It looks like he'll. He'll still win if he gets. He'll get 2,200 metres and he might be five or six in front, you know what I mean? And hang on for the last furlong. So, yeah, I reckon he'll go to the Caulfield Cup, but I. -
Speaker 11Well, it sounds like we've made the decision. -
Speaker 2Yeah, I've been brave enough just to have something small. I'm in the Caulfield Cup, but I understand if I'm wrong, that's the punt that you take. If I'm wrong, then you do your money. Hey, I've got to take a break, Adam. Don't go anywhere. This is Giddy Up. Adam Blenko is my special guest, as he always does. He joins me on a Tuesday morning. Always fun to catch up with him. And we've got plenty more to discuss straight after this. -
Speaker 1Join the conversation. -
Speaker 2Welcome back to Giddy Up, Gareth Hall with you on this Tuesday morning. All thanks to Bet365. Adam Blenko is my special guest. Adam, thoughts on Eliana's chances heading to a Melbourne Cup? I didn't get a chance. I wanted to ask Chris Waller that question, and I had to get going to get back into the studio. Unfortunately, I didn't get to do that, but I might ask him again. -
Speaker 11I could probably loosely answer it for him. I know that he'd start to um and ah about 58, and, "Oh, it's a lot of weight, and oh, dear." That would be his angle, I'm sure, because he's a. - Trainer. - His job, and he's very good at it, is to be a trainer, and he sits there and worries about all the I's and T's that aren't dotted and crossed. But one, she does tick one big box, which is that she's absolutely good enough. And I think she's a stamina monster as well. I don't think it's a bad comparison with Very Elegant. In fact, I think she might even be a positive comparison with Very Elegant. I don't think an extra kilo would have slowed Very Elegant down that day, so if he wants to pick her for a Melbourne Cup, I think. I think she's probably our best local defence, to be honest. I think she's probably. Certainly in terms of talent, she is, and then you're just betting against, is it too much weight to carry? But I doubt that. I think, and particularly if you look at the modern Melbourne Cup and the way that it shapes these days, I think she's at a huge advantage, and I think she'll stay the trip and stay at Wells. So I would be extremely upbeat is my answer to that. -
Speaker 2Is she a better chance than Sir Dilius and the Cox Plate after watching them on Saturday? -
Speaker 11Yeah, I'd probably have her a shade ahead, but there's not much in it. They're obviously. She was a better run on Saturday, absolutely, but he was only second up. He was second up off a soft run. He didn't improve, but he didn't go backwards either, I don't think, in a very different scenario. So they've been pretty explicit about him as well, that Cox Plate Day is the grand final and they're very, very much targeting that race. So again, I'd probably back the yard in there and say, "Okay, they've set him to peak for this one day." We know that he's got that big peak in the locker, so I'd be very wary of him all the
Speaker 2same. - I've got 50 seconds before I have to take another break, but on your numbers, is he going better than he was in the autumn, Sir Dilius? -
Speaker 11No. - No. - No, he's not, but it's a different scenario. He probably was fine until the weekend, and then he was expected to improve second up because we like to see these nice linear patterns where horse runs first up, then bit better second up, then lots better third up, and he didn't. But he ran much the same race in a very different manner. So maybe that's the platform he needs now to peak. It's rarely as neat as we like to think it is on paper. So yeah, in the right race, set to peak. He's going well enough anyway for me to say that the peak is still within range and he
Speaker 2can do it. - Yeah. This trial's not far away. So Zach Pertin, he's on Carrying Rising in the Mounting Yard, thousands of people there to watch the superstar Hong Kong Galloper trial on a Tuesday morning at Randwick. So we'll touch on that straight after our next break here on Giddy Up. - Thank you. Thanks for watching. Looking forward to seeing what Cain Rising can do on this Tuesday morning. He's got a couple of superstars that he's trialling against, but there's been a big crowd turnout to Randwick to watch him trial. Zach Purton has flown in from Hong Kong. He's with the Clark of the Course as he heads to the Barriers as we speak. So last year he didn't trial great. Zach Purton played it down. Then all of a sudden we all thought there was an issue with him. Someone made up a fake account of me on X. He drifted to $3, I reckon. It was a Sunday night. It was one of the most amazing situations that I've come across in racing. I was ringing JD and the Lindsay Park team, and then David Hayes rang. I said, there's nothing wrong with him, Gareth. What have you put out on Twitter? I said, it's not me, David. I said, someone is just playing one of the greatest ever pranks of all time. The stewards were ringing me. And then people were getting, he was $3 on bet fare. I think he got out to $3 in sports fare. I don't know what happened with bet 365, but they were backing like Giga Kick and Jolly Star, and I reckon Jimmy Star firmed in. And then all of a sudden he was okay, and then he got back into odds on. And then. I thought, how good's racing? I don't think racing can provide a storyline like this, Adam.
Speaker 11Sunday night and we're punting like bandits. Yes, we're going. Over information that doesn't exist.
Speaker 2So what is happening? And I'm thinking, oh, should I back him? Or shouldn't I back him? And I'm thinking, they're lying to me, Lindsay, but like surely something's wrong with him. Like the market can't be this wrong. Anyway. That was a lot of fun.
Speaker 11I do remember that. Group chats lighting up around the nation.
Speaker 2Yeah, yeah. Yeah. It was astonishing stuff. So, um, and Zach had to play like a second, a part to play in this. Cause he can't like, he goes, well, he left to improve to win the Everest after what I felt in that trial. Like he wasn't the horse that I, he wasn't the horse that I know and love. And the David Hayes would come on and go, oh, don't listen to Zach. He plays everything down because he does it in Hong Kong because he's under all this pressure, riding all of these favorites. And so if he plays it down, then he's got an excuse after the race. So. Uh, looking forward to catching up with the champ.
Speaker 11The old, um, very much from the school of under promise and over deliver. Yeah. Zach. Hey, that's a good school to be from.
Speaker 2Yes. Yes. I wish I could take a leaf out of that book. Yeah. Um, the three-year-olds, they didn't really excite you this time last week. Did they excite you after the Dane Hill?
Speaker 11Yeah. The Dane Hill went close. The Dane Hill was a step in the right direction. I think. And even a few of the three-year-old Philly saintly dancer was, um, machine like winning the, the Edward manifold. Um, I don't know whether that's a false Dawn and says more about those chasing her than, than saintly dancer herself, but it was, it was nice to see. She put up the same number actually as global goal in a flight. She did in a manifold looking, couldn't say exposed, but not looking obvious for, for one to take that step. But then the next episode, yeah, he was, um, he put all that trial, all that trial nonsense behind him tells us we shouldn't be taking these trials too seriously, Gareth. Um, yes, but he, yeah, he, he did basically to, to natural fling what he did to her on the Gold Coast so the race day form essentially replicated but he's he's come back he's trained on and he's put up the right sort of performance to look like what a cool more winner looks like so I think that is the um that's the a1 form in in the cool more and how's the stable going at the moment wow that's um he's had a big Saturday there but he's had a big month actually um when you look at all the I was talking about that glut of horses in the Westfield cut Raider between 115 and 120 he trains maybe all of them and the ones that he doesn't train are internationals that he will soon so he's um he's got some serious firepower there I think he's eight wins ahead of the market which for a big prominent stable like him that's in the last month um Bjorn and Anthony and Sam are six ahead of the market and he's eight I think is is where we're at in in recent times so that's they're the hot stables going around at the moment but none hotter than
Speaker 2him I was talking to a couple of well-respected foreign Gurus um about kiramara and they just shake their head in disbelief really because he's just a proper trainer yes he's got a lot of horses but when it matters most I think he's training before with the next episode proves that um he didn't panic after those poor trolls there in Sydney he had faith in that horse he comes to Victoria and he sorts him out and that's a cult so he sorted him out mid-preparation or the start of that preparation he got him fit up and then he was able to do what he wanted on Saturday um Jimmy Starr as well when he never he left never lost faith he he kept to his processes and then Jimmy didn't let him down in the Manicato so he's had a really good two weeks Kieran I reckon um we all know he's he's a good trainer but he he's he's got his team firing when it matters most so they're behind the gates here for this jump out or trial um Louis Clifton my um yard Watcher says he's sweating up carrying Rising I don't know if he usually does that but that'll not so he knows how many people are
Speaker 11there to see yes he is
Speaker 2sweating up you can see that under he's worried he knows he can light up the group he's worried hey do you want to do take your pick before this trial because I've got 10 here we'll roll the music the next episode Paradoxium
Speaker 11the next episode and that one's an
Speaker 2easy one Birdman Cosmic Crusader
Speaker 11stick fat with the bird Birdman
Speaker 2for me there is cane Rising
Speaker 11there is but that's a personal bias not a ratings chat
Speaker 2yeah Middle Earth half yours
Speaker 11half yours aliana
Speaker 2sir delius I'd be aliana at the
Speaker 11moment but there's not a lot in
Speaker 2that war woven trombone I'm gonna run
Speaker 11away from the numbers which is probably foolish um I'll I'll be trombone
Speaker 2going to Caulfield pride of Jenny in the um King Charles char Wolf Autumn Glow
Speaker 11uh Autumn Glow sepals changing colors oh at a mile and in the sort of form she's in changing colors is tempting but sepals has runs on the board and yeah I'll go sepals but that's Mr Monaco chocolates chocolates
Speaker 2and then Mar and
Speaker 11Wallah no um that's a big it depends isn't it conventional preparation Waller unconventional funky Mar I want Mar when things are weird sitting
Speaker 2on the fence can we take this are we allowed to take this trial they're racing carring Rising's gone to the front star
Speaker 12drifting back amazing journey passed on the outside by Angel Capital and head wall is the tail ender coming up towards the home turn 600 meters to go carrying Rising traveling two lengths in front and he steers out towards the middle of the course he's enjoying his work at the moment with the ears pricked in behind was Ninja apocalyptic closer to the inner part of the track Angel Capital comes the widest then jolly star and head wall entering the home straight it's carrying Rising leading by a neck on Ninja looming carrying Rising under a holder Ninja likewise goes up within a neck with 600 meters left to run in behind those then was apocalyptic it's Ninja and carrying Rising stride for stride inside the last hundred but Ninja the outside just in front and Ninja will edge out carrying Rising and win it narrowly we might
Speaker 2get three dollars now with Ninja going past carrying Rising what did you make of the trial Adam no he's gone he's gone um Ninja travel unbeaten record ruined yes yes um who beat him in the trial who beat him in the trial last year no no no it was um it was linebacker it was linebacker that beat him in the trial I
Speaker 11went close yeah so Ninja could win the Silver Eagle um yes yes yes yes uh yeah I don't know what to make of that I'll leave that to um I'll defer to my uh trusted trial sources to tell me what I should think of that
Speaker 2put it this way he can probably trial as well as I would expect him but I don't know Ninjas he's a good trailer so we'll listen to Zach and see what he has to say um but yeah it will be interesting because when we watch him in Hong Kong at least he's been toppled yes yes when we watch him in Hong Kong he wins those trials by 10 doesn't he usually
Speaker 11yeah that's he wins everything doesn't he he's a he's famously machine-like he just turns up runs fast goes back to bed but um someone's run fast which is a very rare occurrence so no pressure or otherwise it's still interesting I suppose
Speaker 2and Ninja went really well all credit to him you would have those I
Speaker 11dare say that they they walk away very very pleased with Ninja regardless as I said regardless of trial or not I don't think you could possibly um walk away without smiling if you were connected
Speaker 2to Ninja yes yes those my racehorse owners will be telling everyone when they go to work mine will just be the world's best just be the best yeah there you
Speaker 11go imagine if we were on a racehorse and we
Speaker 2were on a racehorse in Hong Kong we'd go 105.5 um so there he is like he did sweat up I don't know what did you think of the run let us know 0 4 9 9 7 3 6 7 3 6 on the garage horse and hound text line so he'll come back Zach will talk to the media Angel Capital, I don't know if they want to go down that path with Angel Capital for the Everest. Jolly Star was just behind them. So, yeah, there was a few My Race Horses in that trial. But, yeah, Ninja.
Speaker 11Apocalyptic in there as well.
Speaker 2Yeah, Apocalyptic was the other one. And then Kiramar had his Golden Eagle horse, which is Amazing Journey, that was engaged. I don't know where he was. I think he was out the back, yeah. So he was just having a look around, I would imagine. But, yeah, it'll be interesting to see what Zach has to say and David Hayes. We're going to get him on the phone. Louis is going to try and get him on the phone straight away. But he will be attacked by all the media, basically, to get the word. But David Hayes and Zach Burton will have a chat and then we'll find out a little bit more about Cowing Rising. What other question I need to ask you before I go? The Caulfield Cup's not far away. Have you changed your opinion there? Well, you're nervous. You're nervous if Cosmic Crusader goes.
Speaker 11Yeah, I think, as I said before, I think Cosmic Crusader has better form now than MFJAR has. And MFJAR was the horse that I was most interested in. I suppose Zaran and St George were tracking to be something like the horses to beat for MFJAR in a Caulfield Cup before the weekend. And they probably stubbed their toes a little bit and they probably hurt their chances somewhat by getting beaten down the track there in the Turnbull. It's not terminal, but they certainly wouldn't have walked away having enhanced their reputation with MFJAR. So that's good news for MFJAR. But yeah, Cosmic Crusader turning up would be bad news for MFJAR, I suppose, because he's a very, very good horse.
Speaker 2Yeah, a lot of text messages coming through now. Gareth, you're an idiot. Of course, Ninja's going to show up today. With 36 hours of bidding remaining, the 1% share is exciting. So you can get, I think it's up to 37 and a half. It might go for 250,000 now, especially if they say that in Hong Kong that you can get a percent in a horse. A horse that just beat Kang Rising. In fact, I would just try and change the blurb on Inglis Online. The horse that just beat Kang Rising.
Speaker 11How many, what percentage of the messages that you get into the show, Gareth, start with, Gareth, you're an idiot?
Speaker 2Not much. Do you know what, to tell you the truth, I just made that up for the theatre. No one actually called me an idiot, no. Nice trial by Ninja, but the percentage chances of him beating the champ on race day is the same percentage as my ownership share with him, which is 0%. 0.01%. It's a very good text, Nathan. G'day, Jay. Just pulled up the motorbike in the paddock to watch the troll. Handbrake on there and never was asked for an effort. I've got a feeling there's got to be a record number of framed photos of that winning troll ordered today. That's from Shaga. It's a good point you make, Shaga. There's David Hayes. He's just having a look at his superstar now. And he's got, he's got about six handlers, Kang Rising. Oh, LeBron James. Yeah, he's got some entourage. Hey, any winners for us coming up? Dariz was very good in the Arc de Triomphe. What did you make of his performance?
Speaker 11Yeah, he was magnificent in the Arc. What a way to sign off. My dual Arc winner, the first since the 70s. And so the first, well, the first Colt to do it since the 70s. And now he's off to, you know, it's nice actually, now that they're letting those dastardly geldings run in the Arc from next year, that we've got a proper stallion to come out of the Arc in Dariz. We've got Ace Impact there as well. So a nice little legacy for the Arc to leave before it trundles off to become just another race next year, they tell me.
Speaker 2And he was very good too, wasn't he? Like he, that turn of foot's electric.
Speaker 11Unbelievable. Yeah, to the level of horse that he's able to round up there and round up quickly is, that's outstanding. Like those horses, there are horses there that are getting made to look mid-range and you just know that they're anything but. They're all horses deep into the 120s, Group 1 winners, classic winners, and he just rounds them up. As if they're fodder. So it takes a very special horse to do that. And he is one of those.
Speaker 2Yep. Disappointed he didn't make it to the Cox Plate Dariz, but we might get him. We might get him. He might. So I don't want to take on the geldings in France. I might go to Australia and take on the geldings. But yeah, he's a special horse and he proved that. And he's a trainer. He can train a good horse. And what about his domination of French racing?
Speaker 11Yeah, he's, we talk about domination. Joseph, Joseph's had a breakout year. But Francis, again, similar lines to Joseph. It sounds stupid saying that Francis-Henri Graffard's had a breakout year when he's been outstanding for as long as he has been, which is quite a long time now. But it's been an upward trajectory and it hasn't slowed down this year. And at home in particular this year, he's just been awesome. So Dariz has flown the flag, but he's got Calanda again back next. Two weeks away, Calanda again comes back as well. So one out, one in.
Speaker 2So you think Chris Waller and Kiramar dominate racing in this country, which they do. But Francis-Henri Graffard is double the prize money in front of his nearest rival in France. And that's the legendary André Favre. So that's amazing when you think about it. Yeah, his domination
Speaker 11has been particularly at the top level, which is why the prize money is the way it is. And he's, those big races, so the Marois and then the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, they are worth exponentially more than your sort of run-of-the-mill races there. And he's hit the mark in those big races. So yeah, he's. Yeah, even from a punting perspective, you know, obviously the cat's out of the bag. We're well aware that Graffard can train, but he's still outperforming the market in France as well, which is incredible.
Speaker 2Yeah. Tommy Cochran says, Morning, Gareth. Carying travelled on the wrong leg the whole trial. Definitely not impressed by that trial. Better for us punters. We'll get a better price than $1.35. We'll get Zach Tunbridge. He'll join us shortly to see what he has to say with that market. We've bet $3.65 in just a moment. But Adam, it's always a lot of fun. As soon as Bob lets me know, I'll let you know. Regarding Cosmic. Sit down the line. Yeah, unless Simon Denopolis beats us. He usually does.
Speaker 11He'd know already. He'd know already. He starts the whispers. He tells Bob and then Bob goes.
Speaker 2I just. What was the. Yes, yes, yes. That's a bit. Hey, always a pleasure, mate.
Speaker 11See you next week.
Speaker 2There's Adam Blanco from RacingAndSports.com. We'll take a break. Dean Watling live at Randwick. He'll be joining us. All thanks to Betsy.com.au next. So, Zach Burton's not far away. He's just having a chat to Sky, I think, at the moment. But we'll get Zach. He's usually really good with us here on Giddy Up. But Dean Watling was there. He's our trial guru when it comes to Giddy Up. He's been with us from the. outset. Of course, he does some great work as well with Betsy.com.au. And to get all of his trial information and his tips for every New South Wales meeting, go to Betsy.com.au and you can find Dean Watling's work there. And he joins us now. Dino, hello to you.
Speaker 13Morning, G, and good morning to all the listeners. What did you make of that trial? I'd say a pass mark is probably a way to put it, G. We are on a soft seven track. The grass is pretty long. They haven't cut it since Saturday. Saturday, G. But I think anyone out there probably maybe expected a touch more, G. But I'd say it was a pass mark for Koying Rising this morning.
Speaker 2Was he better than he was last year at the trial?
Speaker 13I think a touch better. I wouldn't say a world's apart. I dare say it was very, very similar vibe to last year. Probably a touch flat off that trial compared to the way he sort of trials in Hong Kong. I know we've got that preconceived bias in our mind of his last dominant win there. But I think there's a couple of factors to outline why he was like that. Ninjas, a terrific trial. A G, we know that. We know he's a very good wet track horse as well. So he's a good guideline. But as we know, G, this isn't race day. This is him at the trials as such.
Speaker 2Yeah. So there'll be improvement in him. And as David Hayes pointed out last year, he is not ready to rock and roll. He's there to trial to bring him on so he can show his best there on Everest day. He had that one run in Hong Kong when he smashed the clock on a real firm track there that day. So it'll be interesting to see what Zach has to say. But I wouldn't panic. But would you take $1.35 about him, Dino, after watching that?
Speaker 13I wouldn't, G. I wouldn't take any money without seeing the weather report. I think if we take anything out of it, if there's a world in which K-Rising gets beaten, this year's Everest, I dare say it's on a soft seven, heavy eight, heavy nine track. Doubt he won't get through it. I just think more so probably brings the others up to him and takes away, as such, his brilliance on top of the ground. So wouldn't take that price. Does he drift? Does he firm off that? I'm not quite sure. I think we might see Jimmy Starr. And a horse I tempted may be firm off the trial, where compared to him, I think he would just stay solid in the market. He's got so many multis tied to him, G. I doubt he can move.
Speaker 2What did you make of the other horses in that trial? So Ninja, as you point out, he trialed excellent. But he always does.
Speaker 13He does, G. And so does Apocalyptic, who was in third. So if we reference our horses' trial, how they race, we know it's a lot different. But they were great. Ninja was terrific. He has had a couple of runs on the belt this prep, too, G. We've got to take that into account. It's a mine, too. Coyne Rising's had one run, a stack of travel. He hasn't had a race since then, where Ninja's sort of up and going. This is his home base. And he's got the race fitness on his side. Apocalyptic, great. Jolly Starr, G. She was doing her own business in behind. That's her typical trials. But I dare say Coyne Rising probably needed that hit out this morning. And he'll be tip-top ready for the Everest.
Speaker 2And what did you make of Angel Capital? Would you go to an Everest with him? Or would you wait and wait for another race with Angel Capital?
Speaker 13No, I've said all along, G. I think a race like this, I think it's going to be a lot of fun. like the Everest is easy. cup of tea his best runs have come when he's high pressure speed on up front and that's when he runs at his best so find the race that's got the most pressure in it and i dare say the everest you got savvy haley you've got a horse like blue door you got car ying rising if you speak about speed there is speed galore there it's whether or not he can pick himself up and run over the top of an g but i think tempted's in a similar box there but no i think the everest is out and out for him and they can go to that 1300 meter race two weeks later as well so
Speaker 2it gives everybody hope i guess watching that trial and i don't think you can read too much into it but um with the way that tempted went on the weekend we all thought rocking up to ram week on everest day on saturday week it's it's going to be a one-man show but there's hope for a horse like tempted i think jimmy star will be locked in shortly um jolly star will be representing chris wallace stable i would imagine and then you've got a few horses that would just need to grow some wings i reckon to compete with a few of those horses i just mentioned they're dino for this year's everest yep i think you hit
Speaker 13nail on the edge i think what we learned this morning is uh he probably needed that hit out if it's a soft seven or worse i think there's a hope for other horses in the race i think a good four any better i think it could be game over i think the two horses you mentioned jimmy star and tempted probably have the peaks to win the race g they just got to figure out if they can land close enough to okaying rising in that what was
Speaker 2it like out there dino how many selfies did you have to take how many people were at ram week
Speaker 13it was huge g it was a stack the parade ring everyone was out there plenty of media i do say i suggest that obviously my racehorse had two horses out here too so they would have had a fair bit of fans out to watch those horses trial but plenty of people in uh zach perdon jackets g i didn't lucky enough to win one there's plenty of bacon egg rolls out there g you would have had an absolute feast on there i'm sure but cracking morning out here g i think it's one of the best things in racing there's plenty of youngsters fans out here too getting photos selfies and that as well g so um no it's outstanding for the game all right jimmy star will be representing chris wallace
Speaker 2in all i've got to see if we can get a zach pertin jacket coming rising jack and i'll ask him on air see he can't really say no we might give a we might give one away and then i can pick it up when i'm in sydney next but um or we can send it to a zach um but yeah i think it's great to see him trial and then these build up to these trials or um this trial each and every year these days is at everyone talking i was even at caulfield this morning they're asking me what time's this trial on gareth um the amazing journey or amazing journey kira mars import uh he goes around in the golden eagle he was out the back just having a look what did you make of him yeah
Speaker 13i need to have another look at the trial g all eyes were on kane rising for myself up front um but typical ma they're never asked he's very much a waller style trilogy never asked for a whole lot out the back so uh through the line the bunch out the back were really good kane rising sort of pulled up a little bit short past the post g um so that's another thing to note out of the trial we do love to see him through the line and obviously getting out over that 1500 meters for amazing journey you want to see his work past the post be probably his
Speaker 2best work beautiful dino um what else is on for you today not much
Speaker 13g not much look at wednesday fields recap all the trials there's a couple of two-year-old trials this morning too g man so we'll touch on them i'll review all that set and yeah probably have another couple looks at kane rising obviously this is the first thoughts post that trial g um we kind of have a couple more looks at the replay and see how we go but i'd say past mark gareth nothing past nothing less um very very similar probably a touch better than last year's trial g but um hopefully no or maybe for the punters out there maybe some text rumors go around that people can get the price but i doubt that'll be happening
Speaker 2this year hey dino pride of jenny comes to the king charles that's terrific news it's going to be someday there on everest day taking on autumn glow and char wolf she still dominates the market autumn glow but she's going to add some spice to that king charles it's good news for char wolf
Speaker 13huge news g he was phenomenal on the weekend i think if chad gets going on the turn in the epson on char wolf he more than likely wins that race his shades will go on he gets prior to jenny i know that's not in the gear changes but his best runs have come with her ram week 1600 meters and then you got autumn glow i think the harder they go she probably goes better too so three horse race g i cannot wait um then you're carrying rising you got a stack of other races 2g so shapes to be a cracking cracking meeting and
Speaker 2we can get all of your work go to betsy.com today dino that's right yep yep jump on
Speaker 13the website g i'll recap this morning trials are plenty of videos out via the socials as well this morning's trials um but yeah grab it all there g and all
Speaker 2on the social media platforms of betsy.com today you keep on dominating dino we appreciate that update thank you g man
Speaker 13thank you for trying to get me a jacket out of zach 2g i'll ask him i'll
Speaker 2ask him go and ask him yourself say go and do an interview for giddy up and say zach i need a jacket um gareth forgot to give me one of your hats last year um and see what he says i'll do my
Speaker 13best i'll do my best good on you
Speaker 2dino thanks for that jimmy star if he goes to the everest trent mason out of reporting that ethan brown won't be riding him because he's committed to saran in the caulfield cup so he'll need a new jock um jimmy star in the everest and luke cartwright gets his chance in a big group one he rides changing colors in the turac handicap and stri zan in the group two scolacci stake so talented rider luke cartwright so he gets his opportunity um on saturday on a couple of um wonderful gallopers informed gallopers as well there at caulfield on saturday now um racing.com they're about to take the barrier draws for the caulfield guineas and also the might and power stakes stay with us here on giddy up on rsn and scn track and you can watch us on facebook we're about to catch up with the champion jock in zach purton
Speaker 1join the conversation text us on 0-4-double-9-736-736 live across australia this is giddy up with gareth hall welcome
Speaker 2back to giddy up gareth hall with you zach pert's not far away he's going to join us after riding carling rising you finish second in that randwick trial behind ninja this morning zach tunbridge isn't far away as well and the barrier draws for the group ones at caulfield to kick off the caulfield carnival aren't far away so um they will start at 9 30 so we'll see if we can watch them i don't know if zacky you can come or louis you can come and put the racing.com on for me that'll be much appreciated in fact i maybe can do that as well but um we'll get that on and uh we'll give you an update there on those barrier draws for the caulfield guineas especially and also of course um the might and power stakes paulie sebastiani joins me paulie what do you make of that trial of carling rising
Speaker 6pass markers dino quite rightly put he's there not to win trials he's there to win the big everest ninja look really really good there was a lot of talk about ninja leading into yeah into into this spring carnival and he looks like he has come back a bigger and better horse but it's it's definitely a pass mark you could see he sweated up on the way to the barriers and showed good gate speed like he always does but the one thing you want to look at is through the line gareth and about 100 meters after the post he was about a length or two clear of ninja after the line which would suggest that he's he's going quite well quite well and he went down to the barriers without too much of a fuss with the clerk of the course and he's he's on track whether or not you take the dollar 30 probably not just yet and the weather watchers will definitely be keeping a keen eye on the forecast over the over the next week and a half but definitely a pass mark would you take the dollar 30 i probably wouldn't for the time
Speaker 2being he's a dollar 36 with the boost you're gonna get a little bit of a boost but i think he's got a little bit of a boost but he's got a little bit of a boost but i think he's got a little bit of a boost but i think he's got a dollar 44 for kane rising with bet 365 tempted at six dollars jimmy star at 15 jolly star at 15 and then there's horses that are not even in the everest like war woven probably not angel capital i don't know if they're going to go down that path you long or not i thought they were but i'm hearing maybe not so he's at 17 dollars giga kick that's wet i reckon jonathan munns would love a slot he's going to trial tomorrow with blinkers on giga kick so it'd be interesting to see how he's how he goes and then you've got horses like saint gothard beam and the next episode definitely won't be going there um so yeah the everest has got two or three maybe four horses that um we can all get excited about but the rest might be just making up the numbers
Speaker 6and you've just revealed as well off socials ethan brown will not be riding jimmy star for those who are just with us and may not have been around at that news he's committed to zuran for the course of the year and he's
Speaker 2yeah yeah exactly right so he's got to get to 53 and a half and i think he was doubting whether he's the right horse or not for the caulfield cup after riding him in a turnbull stakes but kiramar and kiramar is seeing them beautifully at the moment he's on fire i think he reassured that tell ethan that he'll be right come caulfield cup day so if you're back saran i reckon that's the best point that you can get as well that ethan's got the confidence in him to stick with him for a caulfield cup and he's got the confidence to stick with him for a caulfield cup and he's got not go to sydney to ride jimmy star um so yeah so if you're a little concerned about saran or at least the jock has got some faith in him
Speaker 6correct and and the race shape and the conditions didn't help on the day just didn't go a yard and he's a run you can put a line through as the stable quite rightly pointed out and as johnny o'neill quite rightly pointed out as well and johnny's going pretty well on the tip at the moment for the parmesan giddy up i would not be hopping off saran judging by uh that turnbull stakes run just put a line through him and he's got a I threw it and forgive and Hopefully we get a drier track and a bit of a softer tempo in a Caulfield Cup, which by all probability we are likely to get. I don't think they're going to go that hell to Skelter in a Caulfield Cup out in front, would they?
Speaker 2No, no. And you can subscribe now to SEN Track on YouTube. We've got that back up and running. We do. And you can watch the Monday Means Test. So the Monday Means Test, I was talking to Sleve up just before our digital, the boss of digital here at SEN Track. So we'll have the Monday Means Test, the Wednesday agenda. We'll also have Giddy Up Stable Mail, Hunter's Edge and the Weekend Preview. Those will be the five shows that we'll put up as part of Giddy Up on our YouTube channel.
Speaker 6Of course, and make sure you leave a comment in the comment section and engage in the YouTube channel as well.
Speaker 2Now the barrier draw for the Caulfield Guineas is about to get underway, so we'll take a break. Zach Tunbridge from Bet365 will join me after that as we dissect the Caulfield Guineas draw as it happens here on this Tuesday morning. We'll be right back. Unit 7, barrier 5 for Call Me Coach. So they're going to take a pun on him, as Sam Freeman told us this morning, and they'll be over the moon with that gate. That's a perfect gate for him, Call Me Coach. He's still learning the caper. Sarah Fox, one for Kira Mars, got barrier number 10. That's just come up then. What other barriers do we know? So Blind Race 2, Call Me Coach 5, Sarah Fox 10, and Central Europe barrier number 7. Unit 5 is the number one horse. His barrier's about to come up. I'll say hello to Zach Tunbridge from Bet365. He's in Melbourne once again. Barrier 1 for Unit 5.
Speaker 14Hello, Zach. Good morning, G. How are you?
Speaker 2Good, thank you. It was exciting to see Kaling Rising trial. Ninja was too good for him there in the trial. He's still $1.36 with Bet365. Surely, Brayden, we boost him to $1.44, but give us $1.50. Yeah, I know.
Speaker 14Yeah, so the real price, $1.36, $1.44 is the boosted price. And then what? And there's only one other, Tempted, which firmed 8 into 6 on Saturday.
Speaker 2Barrier 11 for Tromboli gets back anyway, but still not ideal. He's wall-woven the favourite for the Caulfield Guineas. He had a lovely barrier in the Golden Rose. He was given a peach by Rachel King. He gets barrier 6, which is a good barrier for him as well. So he'll remain favourite, I would imagine, when they put these markets back up.
Speaker 14For sure, with 6.
Speaker 2Yep. Yep. How long does it take for the traders to analyse these barriers? Draws and then put the market back up?
Speaker 14Yeah, they just wait for this to finish. It shouldn't take too long. I'm talking to them now, but 10 minutes maybe, hopefully.
Speaker 2Yeah, something's burdened that was good there the other day. He's another one for Chris Waller. He gets barrier number 3, which is a lovely draw for him. So most of the big yards have drawn well. And just going through the field here for this year's Caulfield Guineas, it's not a big field for the Guineas. So we've got Unit 5, Warwoven, Tornado Valley, Trombolt, Blind Race, Diameter, Central Europe, Something's Burning, Wolfgap, Sarah Fox and Call Me Coach. So there's 11 engaged in this year's featured group one for the Caulfield Carnival. So Trombolt's drawn the outside. I wonder if he'll leave now in the market. I think James McDonald's been booked to ride him. So he'll come down for the opening day of the Carnival. Diameter, when I was talking to a few of the, I say, rival trainers of Chris, well, they reckon he was the one that worked the best, the stakes champ. So there you go. The barrier draw's now been completed for the Caulfield Guineas. So barrier 1, Unit 5. Barrier 2, Blind Race. Then we've got barrier 3, Something's Burning. Wolfgap barrier 4, Call Me Coach barrier 5. Warwoven barrier 6. Central Europe barrier 7. Barrier 8, Tornado Valley. Barrier 9, Diameter. Barrier 10 was Sarah Fox and barrier 11 was Trombolt. So I reckon Warwoven, he'll go forward. It's a good barrier for him. Good barrier for Wolfgap, Call Me Coach. Unit 5 can land into a really nice spot. Something's burning as well. I don't know what they'll do with Diameter from that gate. They might have to take their medicine and go back. And Blind Race was the other big winner. Barrier 2, Blake Sheen can put him where he wants, basically. So he'll, I reckon. He'll get a little bit closer in the market to Warwoven with bet 3, 6, 5 after that.
Speaker 14Zachy Tunbridge. Yeah, for sure. Hopefully up soon.
Speaker 2Yeah. What about on the weekend? Was it a good day for the bookmakers or a good day for the punters?
Speaker 14I think it was a bit of both on the weekend. Well, you say something like Tempted. So I said before, 8s into 6s. A lot of people just took the $8. I don't know. To me, a lot of people, this might be a market where when it goes final field, they do Ka-Ying out, you know, and they used to do Winx out. Autumn Glow out. That sort of betting as well. But that was a good day.
Speaker 2And bet 3, 6, 5 were the best for Cosmic Crusader all day yesterday. It's $17 for the Caulfield Cup. And now he's into $12. Has there been much money for him in a Caulfield Cup?
Speaker 14Yeah. Well, there was straight after the race on the weekend. But that was about only 6% of our hold that race. No one wanted Cosmic Crusader.
Speaker 2What about for the Cox Plate? Has that changed much? Have they jumped off Sir Dillier's? Have they been back? Have they been backing Eliana?
Speaker 14Not really. No. It hasn't really changed a lot. So you're still getting, what, $4.25 logged in with a boost for Sir Dillier's?
Speaker 2Yeah. So, yeah, it'll be interesting to see what Bob Peters does with Cosmic Crusader. Does he go to a Caulfield Cup or does he do both? A Caulfield Cup into a Cox Plate. So the Barry draws up for the Caulfield Guineas. I think they're going to be having a chat to a few of the major players there that are at Caulfield for this Barry draw. Nigel Carmody's hosting it on Racing.com. And we can catch up with a few of those interviews before you know it. And we'll get a market there with Bet365. She's nice and short. She's alibi for the mountain power stakes. Birdman worked extremely well today. He's in the zone, Birdman. So he's a clear second favourite.
Speaker 14She's a $1.40. $1.40 and then $3.25, Birdman.
Speaker 2She's got to go to 2,000 metres for the first time. Yeah. So very short. Yeah, very short. But she probably deserves that. The way that she went there in the MacGyver David, that extra 400 metres would be perfect if we knew that, say, the Cox Plate was her main aim. But her main aim is dropping back to the 1,500 metres of the Golden Eagle. So let's look at the Barry draw. I don't know if they're going to do any interviews, the Racing.com team. No interviews just yet. Do we need to get a break out? We do need to get a break out. We've got one more break. So we might clear that break and then we'll come back. But Nigel Carmody, and hopefully he's catching up with a few of the major players ahead of the Caulfield Guinea. We might just go into this interview with Sam Friedman, chatting to Nigel Carmody after the Barry draw there of the Caulfield Guineas. Of course, Sam's got Wolfgat Barry of four and Cormie Coach Barry of five.
Speaker 5And so this prep's come quickly for him. You know, he's having to take some steps a little sharper than you'd normally see, you know, ours line up in a guineas. But yeah, he's got the ability to be there. There's no doubt about it. The horses we've had sort of line up in the guineas, he'd measure right up with them. But a little unconventional, his route to get there. But the talent's clear. But it was just a matter of at what speed he was developing that meant we didn't see him. We didn't see him in traditional lead-up races. Yeah, that's it. You know, we wanted him to earn his stripes a little bit. So he's certainly seen a bit of the country. And, you know, he's going to come here Saturday. There'll be a big crowd, which will be something new for him. But, you know, with Jonathan and Rocket, you know, they've allowed us just to plot a path with him. And if we felt he was up to this task, that they were happy to run him. And yeah, we don't think he's out of place. Wolfgat was quite the eye-catcher at Sandown in the McKenzie. What was the evaluation of last? I won't give the honest evaluation. A literal head-scratcher. Yeah, I won't give the honest evaluation on the last run. But our jockey was, yeah, he made an error, which he owned after the race. And he was better for having ridden the horse again and knows that.
Speaker 2So that's Sam Freeman having a chat to Nigel Carmody. But Zach Pert and the Champion Hoop joins us here on Giddy Up after the trial of Koeing Rising. Zach, thanks very much for your time. I know you've. You're busy signing autographs. Always good time for you though, Garrett. Oh, thanks, brother. I've got to get a jacket, a Koeing Rising jacket.
Speaker 15Any chance? Okay. Yeah, no problem. We can organise one for you.
Speaker 2I'll let you do that for me. Now, what did you make of the trial? We just lost him. I think he's just had another. He's got a call. Like, he's a busy man. His phone will be going off, I would imagine. He's got to get back to Hong Kong. Um, he played golf there. Yes. today in sydney so he doesn't he doesn't waste any time zach purton so he would have arrived like he would have left after the races on sunday and then he plays a round of golf um gets up early rides coming rising at the trials does all of his meaty commitments and then heads home to ride there of course tomorrow afternoon at happy valley so we might have lost him his phone could have gone flat um but yeah looking forward to catching up with zach to see what he has to say about carrying rising who if you're just joining us was second in that trial behind ninja who tried extremely well but i reckon he was better than he was last year carrying rising and he'll come on big time i would imagine after that trial and he's definitely the horse to beat in the everest he's still around a dollar 36 there with bet three six five that caulfield guineas barrier draw just recapping that we've got unit five barrier number one is zach he's ready to go ready to go sorry mate we just lost you your phone's on fire at the
Speaker 15moment i would imagine yeah it is don't worry but i got your order about the jacket though and we can definitely give you one and you'd be about a two double xl is that
Speaker 2right xl xl these days i don't mind to make it look bigger just to make sure i look a little bit slimmer um and then i'll let me know what size you are and we'll get it i'll get it to you i'll get a large one from my audience as well because the giddy up family love you zach and they're they're already on me back how about us gareth i said that's a that's a very good point they make what did you make of kane rising it was a little
Speaker 15bit similar to last year you know he certainly doesn't appreciate the softer ground um and it was it was very similar this year to what it was last year and there's a lot of grass on it there's the growth there and you know he pulled up having a really big blow he actually blew we're
Speaker 2having no luck we're having no luck with the great man so we'll keep on trying so that's interesting so similar to last year zach telling us he had a big blow um because i thought they might have him a little bit fitter than they had last year because they learned from last year that they probably had him a little bit underdone and that's why zach gave him a good hit out in that first up run when he smashed the clock and broke 106 um so yeah so um that interests me but we'll get zach back on he can explain it all to us and um we'll see what he has to say about the champ kane rising is there a market up yet zacky tunbridge not
Speaker 14yet for the caulfield guineas no it shouldn't be far
Speaker 2away yeah so just recapping that caulfield guineas barrier draw unit five barrier one blind raise barrier number two something's burning barrier number three barrier four wolf gap barrier number five call me coach barriers six was war woven barrier seven central europe barrier eight tornado valley barrier nine was diameter barrier 10 sarah fox and outside draw bolt barrier number 11. so that's not a great draw for him but he does get back anyway tron bolt um great draw for blind raise he can sit right on the pace and blake sheen can put him in the box seat basically war woven will go forward you would imagine from gate number six um i don't know what they'll do with central europe after they took off in a golden rose whether they'll ride him a little quieter um call me coach is learning the game so he's got a barrier five and wolf gap as well barrier four so they will just let him go and he's got a barrier five and wolf gap as well barrier four so they will just let him go and he's got a barrier five and wolf gap as well barrier four so they will just let him go and he's got a barrier five and wolf gap as well barrier four so they will just let it all unfold in front of them unit five will take up a prominent spot something's burning can jump where he usually jumps and be a little bit closer because of that draw diameter will probably they'll probably go full with him i reckon from barrier nine sarah fox barrier 10 makes it difficult and as i said tron bolt barrier 11 so the big winner there when you have a look at it nice and early recapping that barrier draw is definitely blind raise barrier number two and it gives blake sheen so many different options but i reckon what his advantage will be um he'll be two or three lengths in front of a horse like um tron bolt who's got that terrible gate and barry number 11 i reckon we've got zach again
Speaker 15zach you're there brother all right yeah i am i am and i could hear you i don't know why you couldn't hear me but
Speaker 2anyway let's let's try again all right then so um was it a better trial than it was
Speaker 15last year i think it was probably slightly better than what i was last year he seemed a little bit more comfortable with it and i think it's going to be a little bit more comfortable in the ground through the most part of the trial but well he just labors in the ground when you want him to pick up uh he didn't change his leg and then he pulled up having a really big blow um he blew more after this trial than he did after his race um in hong kong so i think when he gets to australia he just gets away from us a little bit all the time yeah which is a
Speaker 2bit frustrating because that was the whole idea let him off the let him off the leash there first up at chart 10 to smash the clock and and complete that magnificent performance and um smash his own track record by nearly a second because you wanted to keep him keep him trim for this um well it was it was but he gets he
Speaker 15gets to canterbury and now he just picks grass all day and i keep telling david stop letting him eat grass he doesn't eat grass in hong kong but he can't help he said he said he loves it i said i don't care if he loves it he's a resource not a pet do you
Speaker 2know do you know do you know why like he's got one he's got some entourage there as well here in australia he's got about six handles so he's got to do something i guess well that's true yeah he can walk him up and down the streets all day that'd be my preference so this time last year he had that jar that he gallops i think on monday before the everest so will you be back to to ride him on the monday or do you just let the track no i
Speaker 15won't do that no no yeah the work rider can do that he's very familiar with the horse as you'd expect um so i will leave them in charge and i'll be back down next friday for the race on saturday did you think who the hell is this coming alongside me well i didn't look to see who it was but i thought someone might be trying to sort of test themselves to see how they could measure up against us and you know they've certainly done that in a barrier trial but you know race day is always going to be a little bit different and hopefully we get a drier track on race day so you're not concerned whatsoever there zach oh of course there's concern you know you'd prefer him to be you know putting five six seven lengths on him and having a nice easy time of things but you know the track's a bit soft and he's had a but he's going to need to yeah you never let him go but
Speaker 2you gave him a good a push after the line as well yeah i did a similar
Speaker 15thing last year just let him do a little bit more work through the line it's only a thousand meter trial and he's running 1200 in a race and you know the way he's bludgeoning he's he's sort of not doing um as much as we want him to do so we'll make him i can do that little bit extra are you scared of anyone of course yeah it's a strong race tempter was very impressive the other day she's improved a lot in the last year obviously makes us a little bit worse at the weights but um she's improved um she's improved she's improved a lot in the last year obviously um enough to to offset that ninja's obviously just draw it up against us trolley star was up on the bridle behind us um you're throwing jimmy star and yeah he's gonna run and and um you know as you'd expect it's gonna be another um exciting race i've got the
Speaker 2the forecast there for every day you'll be right zach it's not gonna rain you'll be right i'll get them to get get the
Speaker 15mile route and drop it an extra two inches as well you'll be on a good
Speaker 2track and you got blue to want to race you in the early part just to keep him interested and then away he goes so um so david wasn't stressed at all either he just thought well this is what he usually does but just you're just going to tell him to feed him less grass at the end of the day
Speaker 15even if he was stressed he wouldn't tell you would he no no
Speaker 2and you know what he'll tell me he'll go gareth i bet you zach played it down and he's trolled no good he
Speaker 15doesn't handle the same track i've been trying i've been trying to tell him for two years he doesn't like soft ground but he's not convinced he doesn't believe me that's why you wouldn't go to rural ask it then well maybe yeah that's might be part of it but this year they had a nice dry track and um you never know he could get a dry track up there but uh we're not going to find out for a
Speaker 2while anyway have you got any other rides on saturday on saturday
Speaker 15week uh i do have a couple i can't tell you what they are um pop-ups doing my rides so all right he's handling that um just yeah matt waiting on another couple as well but i'll let you go yeah well i'm
Speaker 2with the roosters brother and how was the golf in sydney
Speaker 15uh it was good i won five and four so i've got that victory to to uh hang my head on as well yeah it's nothing nothing like um keeping a jockey's confidence up organize i love winning
Speaker 2organize that match race while you're in sydney as well give us something to get excited about yeah yeah okay okay let's tell them you'll go on a slow track over 1400 meters that might like
Speaker 15prick their ears i'd end up with more than a match race you'll probably have another 10 wanting to join it as well
Speaker 2yes yes all right brother thanks very much for joining us mate appreciate it and um no worries he's he's ready to go carrying rising just got to stay off the grass that was the main message yeah exactly that's that's it good on you mate thanks for that thank you there's zach pertin the champion um champion hoop there so he's okay i knew zach would play it down a little bit that is a little concerned but he doesn't obviously handle the soft track and i think that his rivals are crying out for a soft track so they can try and come back to looking at that forecast and i know it's a long way away but we'll be on a good track and um he's going to be mighty hard to catch so carrying rising zach pertin joining me there we're going to take a break it's 9 58 on the other side of it we'll continue on um giddy up on this tuesday morning it is great to have your company and giddy up all thanks to bet 365
Speaker 1join the conversation text us on 0-4-double-9-7-3-6-7-3-6. live across australia this is giddy up with gareth hall welcome back to giddy up gareth hall with you
Speaker 2on this tuesday morning boy it's been a busy day we just had that barrier draw there for the caulfield guineas our racing.com viewers now join us once again here on this tuesday morning we just interviewed zach purton for a few minutes after riding kying rising in that trial there at ranwick today obviously kying rising was beaten by ninja zach says there's no real reason to be concerned he goes it was slightly better than it was last year he he put it down to this basically he said that he thought he would try a little bit better but he was blowing harder than he was after his first up effort there at shard tim when he was racing and he smashed the clock he when he nearly beat his own track record there by nearly a second so that surprised him a little bit he blames that to to kying rising enjoying um enjoying canterbury too much and eating too much grass so zach's asked david if he if um he doesn't have to eat any more grass there that would be nice for him anyway heading towards the everest and he says he just doesn't handle the soft ground so those were the two reasons why he thought that maybe he wasn't at his complete best at the trial but as he got out before he's here to have a look around and a blow out after that travel from hong kong he'll be improved from that trial he'll have a gallop on monday and then he'll get set for the everest and he is a better horse when he's on top of the ground and i think everybody understands that and that's the type of ground that we expect he'll be getting there at ranwick on everest day having a look at that forecast i know it's a long way out what just under two weeks time but it looks like there isn't going to be any rain around sydney for everest day so he's probably going to get that that good four track there um kying rising but it was great to see him at the trials today there was a massive crowd there um to see him gallop ninja was very good um for tommy berry and michael friedman so they scratched him there from the premier stakes on saturday they thought that he just needed a trial so he's on song there for the everest tempted is the clear with bet 365 at six dollars and then you go out to a horse like jimmy star who's yet to be confirmed for his everest slot but it's probably more likely than unlikely that he'll be taking his place in this year's everest um so there that's the that's the last word there from zach purton we might try and see if we can get david hayes or grab from david hayes as well regarding the trial there of kying rising it's three minutes past 10 i'm going to take a quick break we'll come back with plenty more straight after this join the conversation
Speaker 1text us on 0 4 9 7 3 6 7 3 6 live across australia this is giddy up with
Speaker 2gareth hall welcome back to giddy up all thanks to bet 365 it's terrific to have your company on this tuesday morning looking forward to catching up with leon caustance as we celebrate the 150th running of the caulfield cup and also the carnival and uh leon's had so much success during a caulfield cup carnival so he will join me in just a moment we've got breeding and bloodstock with guy moldcaster we'll find you some winners with the midweek master class team um and then we've got the best from the west sean o'donnell will join us after taking out the golden satellite calgoorlie on saturday with what a winner for the casey family and then we'll find you some winners today across the three codes with bag of tips and for our listeners and the viewers there on racing.com we're going to replay that interview that we did with zach pertin went for four or so minutes um and it'd be great to catch up with him once again who discussed that trial of carrying rising he was beaten today once again in that trial um he was beaten this time last year was he i think he was i don't know if linebacker went past him he was um so zach tells us how he thought that trial went today so we'll play that interview again for you in um the next 15 minutes or so but it's six minutes past 10 i remember this call field guineas it was the day that star spangled banner was able to lead all the way with daddy nicola cabord and so
Speaker 16you think last is the field bunched up in the guineas star spangled banner led from carrara manhattan rain denman's been wide all the way into the straight next to clear fast pass uh let's see trusting and so you think still a long way back star spangled banner by two links carrara manhattan rain denman battling away still star spangled banner at the hundred meters from carrara manhattan rain they're not gonna get him star spangled banner all the way over two links carrara second leon
Speaker 2causton's had had some great success during a call field cup carnival and he joins us now leon thanks very much for your time no worries go he was a good horse wasn't he star spangled
Speaker 17banner he was a very good horse yes yeah um it was a privilege to uh to have worked with him
Speaker 2did you think that he would be as dominant as he was over a mile that day
Speaker 17yeah we put a lot of work into him i remember uh we were at romsey at the time and uh i used to get the saddle out i'd say about half past one put a saddle on him yeah and i'd walk him we had a nice grass track there and i'd walk him around the grass track maybe three times three times that night i just stopped to let him have a pick here and there just to get him relaxed and get his mind right you know yeah
Speaker 2and um obviously that was a massive day for everyone involved brad spicer and his group of owners own star spangled banner but i remember working at channel nine during that year and i was just starting off and i and i remember doing the interview with a few of the star spangled banner owners and it was life-changing like all of a sudden he turned into a 10 million dollar cult and these were just mums and dads and i reckon there was a plumber there that bought his share and then all of a sudden he was a millionaire yeah it's a
Speaker 17great story yeah yeah i think brad done a great job syndicating force like you know and you looked after everybody very very well so look it was great all around yeah what do you
Speaker 2think his best trip was at the end
Speaker 17of the day um yeah well he got a mile pretty easy that day yeah and i i thought i thought he'd always get a mile like you know so i thought from 1200 say to a mile yeah it was about his pet distance i'll
Speaker 2say and um did you ever expect him to do the job that he's been able to do at start obviously um anthony myth and told us a story about star spangled banner how he had to take a pun on him and and had some faith in him because it wasn't a great start to his stud career but they persevered with him and now his results speak for themselves
Speaker 17yeah well i think i think when he went to his place um they seem to do a great job with the horse like you know i think they turned him around quite a bit and uh i think cornwall took a big chance but it really paid off yeah i think they worked hard on the horse and they got they got the uh you know the things going afterwards
Speaker 2talk us through helenus's victory in that 2002 caulfield guineas
Speaker 17yeah well helenus was a bit of a rogue early doors yeah and i remember when we first started with him he was very very hard to get into the barriers and i was very good friends with uh mick self at the time and mick was a really good horseman and uh he said look give him to me i'll fix him and uh sort of left him with with me for about three weeks four weeks and the horse came back and he was as good as gold straight in the barriers right out had no problem with him you know yeah um we always thought it was a really good horse uh i think i think we've never seen the best of him really we should have grilled him early to what was like you know yeah because later on we took him to sydney and he turned out to be a bit of a rogue like you know we did everything wrong in sydney yeah started getting really bully and just made hard work of everything yeah he still won a
Speaker 2group one however after in that ornament city didn't he win the the rose hill yeah he won the
Speaker 17rose hill guineas yeah yeah yeah
Speaker 2um yes you spent a lot of time with bart when you're with bart what was his best caulfield cup winner um oh
Speaker 17he had quite a few i look we loved we all loved ming dynasty and you know it was great to see him when like he won two two caulfield caps and yeah i was just it was great it was he was he's a very very underrated horse i mean
Speaker 2yeah and um were you there when let's elope won 91 i certainly was yeah wasn't she a superstar oh
Speaker 17well she just puts them really at the finish you know it was really um she's she just turned the corner i think we put a set of blinkers on her uh after i think you got beat at uh a race at caulfield yeah i think we had a bit of rain i think it was a show day handicap and uh i thought you would just unbeatable that particular day um had a bit of rain i should do a little punting now and then yeah yeah And I lost a bit of money, and that was the end of that. I said, no more buts after this one, you know. But we put a set of blinkers on her, and just before, I think it was the Underwood Stakes at Clareton, she won. Anyway, Joey said, this is unbeatable. He said, this is unbeatable. And he was right. I think she went on and won the next five or six starts.
Speaker 2Yeah, so you didn't back her for the Caulfield Cup after Joey told you to? No, definitely not. Joey Agresta, he was the, he was the, he's Bart's famous track work rider. Bart used to put him on all of his superstars, didn't he, Leon?
Speaker 17Yeah, Joey was a great judge of what the horse is like, you know. Sometimes he'd come back and say, oh, this is not quite right. This is not quite right. And so I'd look it up, the bloody thing. Get on something else, will you? As soon as we got back to the stables, I'd make sure the vet would have it and had a good look at it, like, you know. Yeah. And I'd say, I'd say nine and a half times out of ten, Joey would be right.
Speaker 2Yeah, he's probably the most famous track work rider because Bart used to say that he couldn't do it without him. And it was you and Reggie Fleming. It was some team Bart had there.
Speaker 17Yeah. Look, we're, we're in a good relationship, like, you know. It's all seemed to work really good.
Speaker 2Yeah. So, yeah, looking forward to the 150th running of this year's Caulfield Cup and you enjoying it? Still, mate? Obviously, you're doing it with your son, Troy, and Will Larkin's come along and, geez, you're in some form in the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 17Yeah, look, some of the horses are going good, but you need to have very good, very good horses going into the Cup slot, you know. I don't think we've got a Cup horse there this year, like, you know. No. But, you know, they all come.
Speaker 2Yeah. And, like, what was Bart's philosophy with the Caulfield Cup? Obviously, we know the success that he had in the Melbourne Cup, but he still won seven Caulfield Cups.
Speaker 17Yeah. What can I say? Look, he just treated all the horses the same way, you know. Sometimes you might go three or four months without having a winner. Yeah. And I'd say, oh, what are we doing wrong? He said, nothing, son. He said, you can't make it run. No, no. He said, they haven't got it, they haven't got it. No. And he was, look, he was just so. What would you say? Potomac about it all, like, you know, nothing seemed to worry him too much.
Speaker 2Yeah. No. Yeah, it would have been great to have. Like, I was. He was sort of just at the. When I was at the start of my time in racing, Bart was coming to the end. But some of the stories that you would hear and the way that he would go about it is legendary, of course. And he was the man, wasn't he? Everybody wanted to talk to Bart, especially at this time of the year.
Speaker 17Yeah, well, he never sort of got above everything. Like, you know, I was very, very, very, you know, biased about everything. He just sort of just potter along. And he said, oh, if it'll come, it'll come. Yeah, yeah. What about. That's his philosophy.
Speaker 2Yeah. What a great man. And obviously, you've had success now with, as I said, with Troy and Will. And before that, you were training multiple group. And winners, you've got Superbeck, Harry Jott, Sue Sensation, all business, all nominated for Caulfield to kick off the carnival. Is there any winners there? Sue Sensation was good the other day. And Harry Jott, geez, he's a consistent galloper, Leon.
Speaker 17Yeah, yeah. I'm a little bit disappointed. I thought that he'd sort of fare a little bit better than what he has. Yeah. And he doesn't help himself, mate. He wants to over-race early. I thought he'd settle down. A bit by now. Yeah, I was a little bit disappointed the other day when he raced. I thought that he'd finish the race off nicely. But, well, the winner of the race was far too good. So, I'm just hoping that he'll settle down a bit and put it all together.
Speaker 2Well, you back Sue Sensation up after that. I think he surprised a few with how well he went on a heavy track there at Flemington on Saturday.
Speaker 17Yeah, well, I don't think he's the best horse on a heavy track. The way he raced, like I watched it on TV, and I thought that he might have been a bit stiff. I thought he should have run second right, you know? Yeah, yeah. I think I was very, very pleased with the run. I think it's been his best run for quite some time. They tipped him out for a little while, gave him a bit of a break, and I think it's done him the world of good.
Speaker 2Well, Leon, we appreciate you coming on Giddy Up. We could talk all day, but you've had so much success during this call. The Caulfield Cup Carnival is happening once again. It's a big year for the MRC as they celebrate the 150th running of the great race, the Caulfield Cup. There's so many stories that we can relive over the next couple of days, I reckon, especially for this carnival. And it was great catching up with you, mate. So we appreciate that, and good luck for the rest of the carnival.
Speaker 17Thanks, Gareth. Much appreciated.
Speaker 2There's Leon Corson's there. So interviews like that with Leon is helping us bring. MRC 150 to life as we look back at history and talk to the people that have made the Caulfield Cup Carnival so great over those 150 years. It's 17 minutes past 10. We're going to take a break. We're going to come back with plenty more straight after this. This is Giddy Up this Tuesday morning.
Speaker 1736-736. Join the conversation on 0499-736-736. Welcome to Breeding Bloodstock and Banter with Gareth Hall and the captain.
Speaker 2And hello to you, Guy Moldcaster.
Speaker 18Good morning, Gareth. How are you on this fine Tuesday morning?
Speaker 2I'm very well. They tell me that you had a fun day. There on Sunday, celebrating Henry Field's birthday.
Speaker 18Yeah, well, yeah, it was fun. It was fun. And it was a good grand final as well, Gareth.
Speaker 2Yeah. Did you back the Roosters, Captain?
Speaker 18No, I didn't. But I had to start with the Newcastle team, which was probably quite handy.
Speaker 2Yeah, they were lucky, really, with all of the ball that the Roosters got. Lucky the Knights. They've got big hearts, those Knights players.
Speaker 18Yeah, but to back up about four or five weeks in a row. And, you know, they didn't leave a stone unturned, Gareth, did they?
Speaker 2They tell me a few of the Knights boys like giddy-ups, so they're probably big fans of you, Guy. They would be over the moon that you showed faith in them.
Speaker 18Nah, they've been really good. And, you know, don't you love to see a bit of heart in the sport?
Speaker 2You do, don't you? And they've been, like, the stories of the NRL season. Each and every year, they get, like, it's a bit different to the AFL. You don't usually get to see a team have a run like the Knights. They've had in the AFL, and they get into the big dance. Well, you see it a little bit in the NRL.
Speaker 18Yeah. No, it's been good. It was a very good season all around, really. Yeah. But we've got more pressing things to worry about at the moment, Gareth, because this is when the big dogs come out to play, isn't it?
Speaker 2A hundred percent. What did you make of Kane Rising's trial?
Speaker 18Yeah, I think they got too smart for us all last year, and they probably got a better. But Hayes and Purton wouldn't leave a stone unturned. And you actually saw them, you know, he let them run early in the trial, and then he didn't really do that much on them in the straight, you know?
Speaker 2Yeah, we just had Zach on, and he said, you know what? There's a little bit of a concern. He doesn't like soft tracks at all. And he basically said that David feeds him too much grass when he comes to Canterbury. He goes, you know what? I went and smashed the track record by nearly a second just to make sure that he tied. And he lightens up so he doesn't get away from us like he did last year. But obviously, David just lets him eat all of the grass, which makes my job harder. And I said, well, there you go. He's going that well, Zach. He's telling David how to train.
Speaker 18Yes, yeah. Well, he was giving them the jackets away and signing them and everything. It was all happening there at Randwick this morning.
Speaker 2It was a great advertisement for my racehorse with Ninja going past Kane Rising.
Speaker 18Yeah, yeah. They said there was quite a few bets on Ninja, as soon as he won the trial.
Speaker 2Yeah. So do you think that Ninja won't be beating him in a race? Can Tempted beat him in a race if it's a soft track guy?
Speaker 18I think it's probably going to come down to how Blue Door goes and how it sets up for a horse like Tempted, really. You know, I think if Blue Door can go out and really make them work for the, for the first half, then somebody like Tempted could storm over the top at the end and knock them off.
Speaker 2Is this whether she's close enough, I guess?
Speaker 18She was quite a long way back the other day when she picked up Savvy Halley in one stride, though, wasn't she?
Speaker 2It's a bit different gravy, Savvy Halley to Kane Rising. But in saying that, I think Savvy Halley's going to take her place in the Everest.
Speaker 18Yeah, and she'll generate a bit of tempo, too.
Speaker 2Yeah. It's been interesting watching the slotting. Yeah. A lot of hodlers go about their work in this year's Everest. they put the white flag up and they're trying to do deals basically just to get their money back guy it's been fascinating to watch from afar
Speaker 18yeah i mean i think if you look at it over 10 years gareth you're probably you know it's only going to be two or three or in this case could be even four with k in rising but the whole idea of a slot race is when you get a pretty even market and then you get a lot of a lot of people doing good deals you know but it's very hard when people have basically put their hands up and think they are only going for second
Speaker 2or third like he's he's great to have in australia calling rising and he and he builds up a lot of interest when you've got the world's best horse arrive here for a race like the everest but for the slot holders they'd be hoping he doesn't come back next
Speaker 18year guy definitely yes definitely and especially when especially when you've got a lot of people doing good deals you know but it's very hard especially when the of the 12 slot holders none of them have really had access to it because the hong kong jockey club have got that slot
Speaker 2you know yeah and they just buy the atc slot i think that's the they have to do that so david hayes and the team with k rising get permission in a way to go and race over here so he's not staying on for russell boarding or coming to melbourne for a champion sprint they have to they want him back in hong kong so he has to head back to he's great to have him um he's only going so i wonder how many seasons he's got left in him
Speaker 18yeah i mean the thing is they have to be careful too you know he can't afford to fall down the other side of the mountain you know like he has to race in his peak form for him to stay competing otherwise it's not a great look
Speaker 2is it yeah um what'd you make of cosmic crusader in the turnbull
Speaker 18well cosmic crusader in the turnbull was just about home when they straightened wasn't it yeah i mean they weren't they weren't bad horses chasing him but he just looked like totally different gravy this week didn't he if you
Speaker 2were just watching that for the first time racing you came from england and you were going all right then these are your best weight for age horses and you say yep they're our best weight for age horses and you watch him travel like he did cosmic crusader um and then you say he's probably going to a caulfield cup or a cox player and he will take on these horses again you're thinking that he'd be a dollar 50 you're saying how the hell are you going to turn the tables on him
Speaker 18no i mean you kind of give it to him he just looked um looked so dominant on saturday uh you just couldn't couldn't really believe it
Speaker 2could you aliana went like a horse it's um going to be hard to beat in a melbourne cup guy i'll play it again sam
Speaker 18garris you'd have to ask mr waller to run it in the melbourne cup for you
Speaker 2you know what i was going to ask him today but um because i needed to get back here so to do the show because we couldn't do it live from caulfield so i was doing some interviews and then the boys were cutting him back and then we're replaying it all playing them on the show by the time i got back here but um i was going to ask him that but i didn't get a chance so yeah i wonder what he's going to do because she like when you look at her there in the turnbull um that fast run race is going to bring her on big time i reckon she's going to be hard to beat in a cox plate
Speaker 18yeah but i mean on the uh on the internet and things the last couple of days it looks like there's a lot of people contemplating the cox plate
Speaker 2doesn't it there is there is now would you what would you do with cosmic crusader would you go to a caulfield cup or a cox plate
Speaker 18well i think in bob's world nobody really has a say do they no that's what
Speaker 2i mean what would you do well like uh uncle bob's i think he's enjoying this at the moment keeping it close to his uh keeping the cards close to his chest because um i reckon he'll go to a caulfield cup i reckon he'll try and do both captain
Speaker 18nothing would surprise you gareth no what'd
Speaker 2you make of sir delius
Speaker 18i think he's going okay yeah yeah um but i mean you know like gay waterhouse and adrian bot but you know they know what they got on their hands they probably want to have them ready on on cox plate day and they're probably just chugged along for the first couple of runs so you know like i wouldn't read too much into it um
Speaker 2the other question i'm going to pose you this morning pride of jenny's going to the king charles autumn glow and char wolf it's going to make the race more entertaining but you're like um you've got autumn glow could be one of the very best that we've seen and she's still a short price favorite she'll probably enjoy the pride of jenny tempo that she'll set but i reckon char wolf will love it even more
Speaker 18yeah char wolf's going amazing too isn't he gareth yeah
Speaker 2he was superb there the other day um she's that that epson winner okay it's pretty like she's an alibi guy down the outside yeah
Speaker 18yeah and um and there was a few people that snapped up the 50s and better prices along the way to
Speaker 2gareth was that
Speaker 18you captain no way way too smart for that idea and
Speaker 2like that was you don't get to see too many horses that come from that county and they're not going to get out of the car they're going to come from that camp over in the uk team gosden and then have success over here at group one level so chris has done a great job with him
Speaker 18yeah i think it was about 12 months ago that horse was running in a in a bendigo cup or something you know yeah and he was and he was he wasn't terribly tractable at those sort of stages but they've turned him around and he was simply dynamic
Speaker 2on the weekend i wonder
Speaker 18what he'll do with him um well i don't know if there's that many more handicaps coming up so he probably has to start moving to the wait for age
Speaker 2ranks yes um so there might be a race maybe the champion smile or something for him or a cf4 stakes um later on in the carnival here in melbourne oh he probably might go to a king charles you would imagine the way that he went there the other day um what'd you make of the two-year-old races yeah i thought
Speaker 18i thought they were they were fine i mean it is it's a little bit scary when we had three two-year-old races over two states and we didn't fill a field no you know that that may be that is a sign of the times but um i thought they were i thought they were okay i thought michael friedman's philly was pretty good uh i thought the john mccarl's horse was good in melbourne and uh and the and the colts one was okay in sydney so it'll be interesting to see what happens next
Speaker 2yes shara does the ollie kirk philly that was impressive for michael friedman the animals are okay i reckon yeah that's a good one i think that's a good one i think that's a good one i think that's yeah the annie mackinac would have loved to have seen an animo win one of the early two-year-old races but they're up and running and obviously they've got ability
Speaker 18yeah i think they probably weren't really benefited from the dead tracks on
Speaker 2saturday yeah um and i think we've talked about this as well with these two-year-olds a lot of the trainers are holding them back now so they'll probably won't start to later on this year or even get started saying in early 2027 guy
Speaker 18yeah no there's there's no mad rush and you know the horses run out before the races run out gareth
Speaker 2what about um the ready to run sale that'll happen next week in english you're looking forward to that
Speaker 18guy yep yeah we've got our short list and we've done the videos and uh and we'll just see what
Speaker 2we come up with now is english catching up to nzb or nzb about a few lengths still in front regarding their ready to run sale i
Speaker 18think english are pretty happy that they got kane rising here again and probably half the people from hong kong will be here next week to see the sale so
Speaker 2that all helps yeah they've done it they've done a great job in in getting the the asian buys to their ready to run sale and david hayes found hard kick last year so yep that'd be nice if you could find us a hard kick there guy
Speaker 18it'd be nice gareth wouldn't that we
Speaker 2had sam beats it on the other day yeah we had semi and he did remind me that he he did find me a horse last year that's went on to be a group winner the year before he found me one that went on to be a group winner he did break in char wolf he did do golden 60 so if you want to find like why would you bother inspecting them you just go to sam beatson basically exactly gareth yeah and he'll he'll um hopefully lead you the right way now the tat sales isn't far away there's been a lot of horses that we've purchased from the uk at this sale and um we've got a lot of horses that we've purchased from the uk at this sale and um brought them back to australia guy but it's always at a difficult time of the year because it's in the middle of our carnival are you going back to the uk to try and find a bargain at this tat sale yeah
Speaker 18i'll be going up probably the night of the cocks plate and then be back before the carnival at flemington
Speaker 2the following week okay and so um is it easy to find a horse so you started looking for them at the moment what's the process there well they'll
Speaker 18be there's usually about 16 or 17 horses that we've purchased so we've got a lot of horses that we've got a lot of horses that we've purchased so we've got 1700 in the catalog yeah so so once you whittle them down then you just start churning through them and looking at their form and and hoping there's not too much money from saudi or bahrain or something to blow us out of the water
Speaker 2yeah but you always try and find a couple there
Speaker 18yeah we managed to pick up a horse called pinhole last year and he looks quite a progressive horse
Speaker 2yeah he won nicely there the other day pinhole
Speaker 18yeah let's hope he keeps winning what
Speaker 2happened to the captain's pick last week scratched yeah we all know that we've got a lot of horses that we've got why i don't know
Speaker 18but it's then again on wednesday i've got a funny feeling it might get
Speaker 2scratched again yeah sing your song yeah not seeing much these days so hopefully once we see it in we'll be backing it. And what about the captain's pick this week?
Speaker 18I think Pinnell's running on the weekend. Get on. Yeah.
Speaker 2At Caulfield. Beautiful. Autumn Boy, is he a Cox Plate horse or is he a Golden Eagle horse after watching him on Saturday?
Speaker 18I'm not sure what they're going to do yet though, Gareth, but I think he's probably a better horse out and going than trying to pick runs through them. But I mean, it wasn't anybody's error. It was just the fact the way the race was run and the barrier he had.
Speaker 2Can't believe you're having a whack at the jockey from gate one.
Speaker 18I didn't say I have a whack at the jockey.
Speaker 2Have you got any future bets for us?
Speaker 18No, I haven't. Not one? Not one, Gareth. I can't get them right on the day, let alone try and get them right a month
Speaker 2beforehand. Always a pleasure, Guy. And Trombolt, gate number 11. Can you beat Blind Rays and War Woven still from that gate?
Speaker 18Well, you're going to need it. We're going to need a very good ride.
Speaker 2Yes. Is McDonald riding him or Central Europe?
Speaker 18I don't know. They haven't put them up yet, have they?
Speaker 2No, but you would know, but you're too scared to tell us, I would imagine.
Speaker 18You enjoy your day, Gareth.
Speaker 2Have a great day, Guy. Guy Molcaster joining us there for Breeding and Bloodstock. Zach Tunbridge is with us now. Zach, the markets are up again with Bet365. We'll start off of course after the barrier draw for the Caulfield Guineas. Yep, so
Speaker 14favourite War Woven, you were right. So 262. We do that because our system is based off fractional odds. So it goes up 30. That's when you see something a bit different. 262, but they've put a boost to 275. If you're logged in, you'll see that. And Blind Rays, what did it draw? 2? So $3.75.
Speaker 2Trombolt, $7.50. Yeah, so Blind Rays is firm. Trombolt's gone the other way.
Speaker 14Yep. And then your double figures for the rest of them. Central Europe? What do you think? $26. $19? $19.
Speaker 2You think should be further? Well, he was $26 before the draw. He's into $19 now.
Speaker 14Go through the rest of the field. Alright, so Diameter 12s, Call Me Coach 15, Something's Burning 17, Unit 5 17, Central Europe 19, Wolfgap 21, Tornado Valley 26, and Seraphox at 51. But yeah, War Woven, if you get $2.75, it's still relatively short though, isn't it?
Speaker 2And I think, and there's a few text messages coming through, War Woven and also Blind Rays, they've both confirmed that if they do perform well in a Caulfield Guineas, they would love to go to a Cox Plate. Yep. I don't know what Trombolt will do if he wins a Caulfield Guineas because Chris Wall has always been hesitant. He did start Militarize, but he's always been hesitant to start his three-year-olds in a Cox Plate. So yeah, we'll just have to wait and see. Good on you, Zach. Who do you like in the Guineas? I like Trombolt. You take the
Speaker 14price, yeah? Yeah.
Speaker 2But I think Blind Rays is going to be hard to beat.
Speaker 14Yeah, me too.
Speaker 2I'd take on War Woven. I don't know why. I reckon that was his peak effort there. And they say there's some improvement in him, but I reckon Blind Rays and Trombolt have got more improvement in them.
Speaker 14I think it'll be in Blind Rays' corner.
Speaker 2But they do need to step up because War Woven set the he set that mark in the Golden
Speaker 14Rays. Yep, very impressive.
Speaker 2But whether he can go on with it and do it over 1,600 metres, time will tell. Alright, mate. Good on you. Thanks for that, Zachy. Thank you, G. And we'll catch up with you on Friday. No worries. Thank you. Alright, then. We're going to take a break, come back with plenty more. This is Giddyup.
Speaker 1Text us. On 0-4-double-9-7-3-6 7-3-6. This is Giddyup with Gareth Hall. On Giddyup, it's now time for the Midweek Masterclass.
Speaker 2Giddyup. I'm hearing that Jimmy Starr will be representing the Tab in the Everest. I wouldn't be surprised if Nashua Willer takes the ride as well. That's not confirmed just yet. That's just the that's what I'm hearing on the grapevine. Who are we going to chat to now? It's the Midweek Masterclass. Thanks to Robot Building Supplies. Robot Building Supplies. Helping you get the right products for the job at a better price. Mark Roden joins us from the Kensington Track there tomorrow afternoon in Sydney. Hello to you, Mark.
Speaker 19How are you?
Speaker 2Good, thank you, mate. What did you make of the K-Rising
Speaker 19trial? I haven't seen it. Sorry, I've been a bit busy. What's the story? He was okay.
Speaker 2He was probably just a little bit better than he was last year. Ninja did beat him, however.
Speaker 19That's interesting because you know, he's despite the fact he won the Everest last year, that wasn't his best run of his career, I didn't think. Maybe acclimatising is a little issue
Speaker 2for him. Well, Zach reckons he eats too much grass when he gets here, and he doesn't like soft tracks as much as he likes a good track, so there you go.
Speaker 19Okay, yep. I
Speaker 2think everyone needs some rain to try and think that they're a chance against him, but I don't think there is rain coming for Everest Day. No, no, it doesn't look like it. Yeah. What are you like tomorrow, mate?
Speaker 19Look, this is tough. It's Kensington, rail back in the true. Last two meetings in the true, it's been very fenced in run. Lane one's definitely been best, but Kensington doesn't always live up to previous patterns, so we'll assume the inside's best, or on pace. We'll start in race four. Interesting runner here, number five, great idea. Had its first start, going to see him do me at the end of August at Taree, they took it up there, and he absolutely dominated a class free field. He was well back there. They put him away for five weeks, put him up from 1,400 to 1,800, booked Nash. So it's query, query, query, but it signals intent to me. I think they're going to go forward. If I'm right in saying that's the place to be tomorrow, he's going to be a great chance. He's been backed already, but I couldn't tell you what the market's going to do with him late with all those queries in his setup, but I think you're getting around $460 now. I think he's worth a small bit at that price, but if it could get better, that would be better again, but some of these others like Lyca Storm and Standard Deviation we know about. Botanical Boy has a bad map tomorrow, I think. So yeah, number five, great idea. He's an interesting runner.
Speaker 2So that's race four, number five. What else have you got for us?
Speaker 19We'll go over to race six. This is a bit speculative. Number six, Agent Zero. Really found form over a bit more ground than this at the end of his last preparation, but he had a nice trial. He only trialed over 795, not far enough for him, but he worked home for third in that trial, so that was okay, and he's drawn one. So I expect him to be around midfield or off midfield, but he's going to get that lane one run, which I think or hope will be a plus. Felix Majestic's going to go straight to the front in great form. Not winning, but should be hard to beat again. True to form sets up well, but they're at the head of the market. Just thought at around $13 each way, six Agent Zero was worth a bet.
Speaker 2Yeah, he's into $9 now, Agent Zero. See how Greenman takes the ride, yeah. $13 into $9, so he's had some good backing. Hopefully he got the $13
Speaker 19there, Mark. That was about 10 minutes ago, yeah. There you go.
Speaker 2Anything else, or are we just going to play those two horses, Great Eye, Deer, and Agent Zero?
Speaker 19Scenic Point in the last, number two's interesting, but there's a couple of horses that might take it on for the lead, so I'd wait for Scratchings there.
Speaker 2So that's race seven, number two, Scenic Point. Alright, mate, thanks for that, Mark. Appreciate it. No worries. Thanks, Derek. There we go, Mark Road. I think Louis Clifton's keen on Scenic Point. He said to me when I walked into the studios, he says there's a moral, a Louis the Lip moral at Randwick on the catcher's track tomorrow. He goes, I'm sick of Paulie Sebastiano getting all the accolades here as the best judge behind the window. I said, I want an opportunity, and he said Scenic Point is a, what'd you like, a moral. Yeah, there you go. Use the M word. I beg your pardon? Yes, yes. Thanks to Racing Queensland. You can check out racingqueensland.com.au for where Queensland is racing today. Chris Nelson joins us. G'day, Chris-o. Good
Speaker 20morning to you, Gareth. Good morning to everyone.
Speaker 2Any morals tomorrow afternoon there on the Gold
Speaker 20Coast? No, we're racing on the Polly track tomorrow at the Gold Coast, so something a little bit different. So, no, I'm not going to declare anything on the Polly track. In fact, we're only short and sharp at this stage. Just the one tip, but that could easily change in the morning. Race five, horse number three, Power Rees for Tony Golan and Bally Youngbury. It was a moral beating, I'll use that word again, a moral beating at the Gold Coast two starts back behind Chase and Lisa. Just could not get clear when she needed to. Now, that was 15.40. They stepped her up to 1,800 back on the grass last time. 1,800 metres, way too far. She didn't handle it at all. So, here she comes back to the Polly. Not a strong race. She gets a kilo and a half off of Bella, and I think she'll be hard to beat. So, Power Rees, the only tip at this early stage, but hopefully I can add one or two to that tomorrow.
Speaker 2Beautiful. So, that's race five, number three at the Gold Coast for you, Chris-o.
Speaker 20Yes, on the Polly surface tomorrow. Just the seven races and only 60, 70-odd acceptors.
Speaker 2Small fields. Yeah, it's a little bit different this Wednesday, especially in Sydney and Melbourne. They've got the Kensington meeting there in Sydney, but outside of your carnival, you had your Metropolitan meeting on Monday yesterday with the public holiday.
Speaker 20We did. And that's something I've always liked, Metropolitan meetings on a public holiday. So, I'm glad we're doing that again because we went away from that. So, it was a good meeting at Doobin yesterday and good to see. So, we have to suffer a little bit tomorrow, but there's still seven winners there somewhere.
Speaker 2100%. Good on you, Chris-o. Thanks, Gareth. Cheers. Cheers. Miles Fitzgerald joins us. The Magic Man.
Speaker 21G'day, Milo. Hello to you, G-Man. How are you?
Speaker 2Good, thank you. Eight races at Geelong, and then we get set for their big day after that, Geelong Cup Day. And do you know what? On Thursday or Friday, I've had a chat to Shane Bennett. He's going to give me two tickets to give away for his marquee for Geelong Cup Day. Now, that's valued around $600 or $700. So, yeah, I might do it on Thursday or Friday. I might do it Friday. - Well, you and I,
Speaker 21had fun in that marquee over the years, haven't we, down there at Geelong Cup? And so, yeah, the big tickets you'd want to be getting your hands on.
Speaker 2Are you going this year? Can you do the Wednesday?
Speaker 21Not sure. I might just come down just for a bit of fun and have the Wednesday off. But looking forward to the Geelong meeting tomorrow, of course, and always look forward to catching up with Shane.
Speaker 2All right. Then how do we make some money at Geelong?
Speaker 21We're going to start in race number four. And I think I've found one here, too, that I'm reasonably keen on. And it's a horse called Civic Square, number four. Now, this horse went around as a two-year-old and ran in behind a horse called American Eagle, another one called Judas Tree, another one called Commit, and was there or thereabouts. This is a horse that does jump on speed, just ran out a little bit of juice late, and that was back on the 15th of the 7th. Then this horse has gone to the trials, and a nice trial behind Kieran Ma's Qatar Bloodstock Horse Pursuit ends up here at Geelong, $3.20. With some form in behind American Eagle and Judas Tree, I reckon Greg Durrell's got one here, and a great price. So hopefully this horse on debut, Written Velocity of Chris Wallace, has had a little bit of specking in the market. Its jump out wasn't that strong. I think that it'd have to grow wings to beat this, so it's going to be the best bet of the day. 4-4 Civic Square.
Speaker 2So race four, number four, Civic Square. Lucky Neindorf takes the ride. What else have you got for us, my eye?
Speaker 21Then we go to race six, number two. Now, this is a horse for Smiley Chan. It's called Power and the Beat. This will be the second best. This is a horse that does do it up on speed. He'll be fresh here, gets a nose roll for the first time just to behave, but this is a horse that has run time before. Now, this has been, I tried to get the early price here, it's close enough to $7, Power and the Beat, and he's been hit already into close enough to $5 and even money, and they continue to come for him as well. There's not much in this race. I'm looking for horses that are going to be forward. This horse will probably. The horse does go fresh where he's run fresh before, and he ran in at Caulfield on a heavy eight, if we do have a heavier deck, where he was only two and a half lengths off Clever Trevor, and we know what that form line was like for Paddy Payne. So last start when he was here at Geelong, he won a class one by a length and a half. That was back on the 1st of May. We haven't seen him for a while. I think he'll get the chocolates and still with $5 and $2 each one. Bet $3.65 is a good each way bet.
Speaker 2Beautiful. So that's Power and the Beat. Are they the only two?
Speaker 21I'd have a little spare. I'd expect race five, number one, Turbo Saint for the McDonald camp. Look, this horse won here last start. He'll be the third pick out of probably the three of them. I'd expect to see a bit more of the market go from that stable in the Geelong colours, but Turbo Saint inside draw around $2.70, $2.80 with bet $3.65. That'll probably be the third go if we win the first.
Speaker 2And they tell me you've got one for us at Bunbury.
Speaker 21Yeah, I've got two at Bunbury, and there's two form lines I want to follow. So there's no market out yet there for Bunbury. Race one, number one, Texan C, is what we'll be touching there at Bunbury. Now, this ran in behind a horse called Angel Express, who went around at $1.70. That horse goes around in race five, and it'll be your favourite in that race as well. For the Parnhams, which I know you know that stable well, so we're with Texan C in the first Stevie Parnham and Neville Parnham, and then race eight, number 14, Treasured Legacy. Hopefully that opens up better than even money. So just the two at Bunbury, one, one, and eight, 14.
Speaker 2What did you make of the weekend, Milo?
Speaker 21A good weekend. I think there's plenty of forgives out of Flemington. They did a great job with the track. Plenty of forgives, so a lot of people, a lot of chat about, do we get off Sir Dilius's and half yours's and horses like this? I think maybe that's just one of those meetings you might just need to put to the side a little bit when doing your form and sort of troughs that horses are going to bounce back after that weekend meeting.
Speaker 2Yeah, all right. Then Cosmic Crusader?
Speaker 21Surprise me. And look, so did probably the track upgrade. But I was in Sydney as well. As you know, so I wasn't really aware or across the conditions at the time and I was in flight when those races were happening. So I couldn't adjust at the time, but it surprised me. But what it does do, it sets up for a really competitive sort of middle distance staying races, doesn't it now when we got Cosmic Crusader back and Sir Dilius isn't just going to kick everybody's head in. So I think it looks really competitive at the moment and pretty excited to see the barrier draw in Caulfield Guineas on the weekend. And I think that's far more competitive race coming back to, you know, the Caulfield here, that Caulfield Guineas and what the betting suggests.
Speaker 2Yeah, looking forward to it. Good on you, Myles.
Speaker 21On you, Jay.
Speaker 2There's Myles Fitzler there. Many Frenchies in agreeance with Myles Fitzler at Bumber. He likes race one, number one, Texan Sea and race eight, number four, Treasured Legacy. We go to Mount Gambier on a Wednesday. Thanks to Racing SA, Lincoln Moore joins us.
Speaker 22G'day, Lincoln. Gareth, how are you, mate?
Speaker 2What do you like here?
Speaker 22Oh, look, I think Del's getting into it at an early stage. But I think there's a couple that I'm really interested to see. Well, one mainly. That's race four, number one, Flaming Navy for Travis Stoutel. This horse is, look, on his best form, he'd be better than this. He hasn't done a lot for a little while now. His last win was last December at Gawler. But I just thought Sophie Potter taking one and a half off from barrier eight, Flaming Navy's best would certainly be hard to beat in a race like this. So we know how good Travis Stoutel's stable's been going. And I just think, even though it's drawn a bit of a sticky gate, that Sophie Potter claim will be of much benefit to Flaming Navy. So can you see what price he is before I dive in? So race four, number one, is one of the horses I'm keen to back. And then race five, number two, is another horse that has been out of the winner's stall for a little while now. But Magic Field, he loves Mount Gambier. He's an Andrew Clarking galloper. He's been here six times. He's never been out of the money. He's only won the one race, but he's been placed five other occasions. And I thought his latest effort at Gawler last week was pretty good. He led them up there, was on speed, and only beaten two and a half behind Dampen. So certainly looks his chance to regain. I'm winning for Magic Field. He's been a horse that probably hasn't quite delivered what they expected early because he certainly had a stack of ability. And they tried him in a Lightning States back in 2024, Andrew Clarking. So he's obviously always had an opinion of this horse, but he loves the 900 at Mount Gambier, and I think he'd be very hard to beat in race five, number two.
Speaker 2Beautiful, mate. Well, we wish you the best of luck there. And what was Murray Bridge Cup Day?
Speaker 22Obviously, the weather gods didn't look after them. It was a bit wet and windy. It was a bit windy there, but it's a great result for Gavin Bedge. Good to win the cup there. Noel Callow, his first feature race win back since he's returned to riding here in South Australia. So a great result from both of them guys and a bit of an upset in the sprint. But a horse to follow, St. Lawrence. I think he's got him going really well, Bedgey. We know his stable's been flying, but that was really astute placement and a good ride from Noel Callow.
Speaker 2Yeah, he's got his confidence back up, St. Lawrence. It was a long time in between drinks for him now, but he's put a couple of victories together, basically.
Speaker 22So, yeah. Yeah, absolutely. I think there's a race for him at Flemington in a couple of weeks. Bedgey's got his eye on with him. But as you said, it took him a while to regain, get that confidence back. But now he's got it. He certainly is a horse that might just be able to go on with it and pinch another race over there in Melbourne.
Speaker 2Good on you, Lincoln. Thanks for that. Cheers, mate. There's Lincoln Moore. And that was the Midweek Masterclass. All thanks to Robot Building Supplies. Robots got it and deliver. Speaker 25best bet
Speaker 2comes up in race two
Speaker 25race two yep it's a 1200 meter maiden plate and king karuna second up here for up-and-coming trainer kieran ma i thought the first up run at sale was quite good close off nicely beaten two lengths behind a blanket sort of finish of horses over this same trip in a better maiden than it faces here strips fitted from a good gate owen walsh in the saddle the two runs last preparation the only two runs was career last preparation were both in good two-year-old races it was sort of safely held but one was behind natural fling at caulfield so it gives you an idea of where it was being placed i think it's ready to win i don't think it's an overly strong race here first up and i think it's going to get a opportunity to get the uh the job done so that's race two number 10 do you have a price here i don't in front of me at the moment
Speaker 2it was it hit me i'm just having a look at it now um and it is race two i think it's three dollars 60 now 260 about three dollars 10
Speaker 25three or 20 yesterday so it's tightened in a bit which is good yeah a good bit of confidence now the other one i like which was i'll call it an each way price because it was slightly better than money back race number seven again kieran ma uh young trainer on the up here with another good chance as a cool was five dollars 15 two dollars 20 yesterday so i thought that was a nice little play to beat the favorite here who we share the music now that's a tage weir one start one win beats iggy bammer that horse but that was on the synthetic and just does need to go to another level here as a cool though second preparation six starts through the first prep one at second start went to class one our grade at packenham and one at third start as well and was tested in better racing through caulfield and flemington at the back end didn't quite measure up to the benchmark 70 at flemington but has returned well off a really nice jump out where it was a long way back closing it's going to get back it's going to be hitting the line but i think late in the day that's not too bad so as a cool is uh is the other that i like race seven number six do you have a price for that yes it
Speaker 2was four dollars okay so
Speaker 25money's come for that too so good to see we're in the right areas at the moment and hopefully we can get the job done there so they're the two i don't have my quality numbers in front of me um i'm just having a
Speaker 2look making sure that there is no scratchings here so i did them after

Speaker 26g'day gareth exciting week i'm heading off to the radium but i'll have um one eye on the great racing at menangle and an even better night at melton um i've just got an early start to the race i'm going to be racing with gareth hall and i'm going to be at the fields we'll talk about those soon but some exciting news on many fronts with the second of the uh eureka slots being confirmed this morning yeah and it goes to a horse that i think is destined for pretty big things trained by a young guy who i think is destined we're
Speaker 2going to try and get him on he's just not answering at the moment bailey mcdonough but um he he will join
Speaker 26us so um i've uh been in touch with him this morning but uh bailey mcdonough trains and drives us to the radium and we'll be right back with gareth hall and an even better night at double loo yeah and i'm told after much talk behind the scenes tony lacastro who we know so well as the owner of don hughes Hugo, he's already won the Eureka with Don Hugo. He's trying to win it again, this time using his slot with Double Lou and Bailey McDonough.
Speaker 2It's a big chance, Double Lou.
Speaker 26Huge chance. Blazing gate speed, already a feature race winner at Menangal. He's four. Yeah, he is too. And four-year-olds have won each of the Eurekas so far.
Speaker 2And he joins us now, Bailey McDonough. Hey, Bailey, congratulations. Well done. Thanks very much, guys. How are you? How is he?
Speaker 27Yeah, no, he's really good. He came on from the last trial really well, so I was stoked with that. Sort of just giving a bit more time in between runs and hope to have him peaking at the grand final.
Speaker 26And that's the beauty, Bailey, of getting the slot now, isn't it? You don't have to rush back. You don't have to prove anything. You can build your own preparation, which I would imagine would go New South Wales four-year-old breeders challenge into the Eureka after that.
Speaker 27Yeah, for sure. I mean, like I said, he obviously had that solid trial. And if he can have another one and then straight into the semifinals and all going well final a week later and gives me three weeks to, you know, sort of do what I want until the Eureka, that should be some really good stepping stones for him.
Speaker 2So Adam, at the moment, we've got Double Lou and Lucaso that have been basically firmed up for the Eureka.
Speaker 26Yeah, so they're the only two confirmed at the moment. I think, you know, there's a lot of others that are probably getting close to doing deals, but it's a little bit different. We've still got. We've still got this New South Wales breeders challenge to come. We've got this crucially important Victoria Derby series as well, because I'm getting the feeling there could be three, four, five, three-year-olds in the Eureka this year. So we're going to know a lot more over, I would say, the next sort of two, three, four weeks. But Bailey, from your point of view, he's had a lovely grounding, this horse, hasn't he? And I think that trip up to Queensland, you know, albeit things didn't go to plan in the rising sun, he showed up. He showed us early in that campaign. That win of his to sit basically three-wide the entire race and win in scorching time was unbelievable.
Speaker 27Yeah, no, he was great that night, you know. And Chris Bars, he said it best, you know, horses just don't seem to do that, you know, especially these days. And he's obviously proved that he's right up there with the best. And, you know, I think that being such a big horse, he just sort of, every time he's come back and had a little bit of a break, he's just grown and filled out that little bit more. And this prep's been no exception. And I think he's come back, a little bit better. And the trip's definitely brought him on a heap in terms of his mannerisms. So, yeah, all positive signs with him.
Speaker 26So just take us through the next couple of weeks. When will he trial again? When have you got the first up run slated?
Speaker 27He'll trial Wednesday, next week, trials. And then 10 days later, he'll race at an angle in the semifinal of the British Challenge. And then, yeah, take it from there.
Speaker 2And, Bailey, you've cemented yourself now as one of the best trainers. You've been on the track for a few years now. Have you enjoyed your move from Victoria to New South Wales? And did you expect to establish yourself so quickly in the top echelon of trainers there in New South Wales?
Speaker 27No, I never even planned to be a trainer when I moved up. I sort of just picked out a few horses that I liked and sort of, you know, took them on and just wanted to get my name out there to keep a continuous supply of drives and try and get my name out there each and every week. And, you know, I was lucky enough to, you know, bump into the Reeves family and they were, you know, they've been great to me and they've given me a good chance with a couple of horses and it's proved fruitful. And, you know, I was lucky enough to get a horse like Double Lou so early on and, you know, he's obviously going to take me to the greatest sites that harness racing can deliver. And, you know, a lot of people don't ever get to experience that. So, you know, eternally grateful for, you know, an opportunity like this.
Speaker 26A little bit of Jason Grimson around that. The fact that when, I think when Grimo first moved to Menangale, he planned to be a driver and he's become a huge training force. It could be similar there. But this horse's gait speed is a massive weapon, isn't it? He, there's not many quicker off the arm anywhere, particularly Menangale than Double Lou.
Speaker 27No, he's blistering. A few times he got caught on the inside. He used to be blocked up and he's a bit of a big teddy bear of a horse. So, yeah, he didn't really see him a few times. Like the chariot's a good example. But I opened him up last prep and, you know, he went really good. So, I think, yeah, his gait speed's going to be lethal from anywhere. And, you know, it's obviously a part of his great versatility.
Speaker 2You're getting that big now. You'll be able to poach your father there from Emma Stewart's camp and get him to become your foreman.
Speaker 27Yeah, I'll certainly look into it. But, yeah, I want to say something, but I'll leave that off the table otherwise I might get a call from him later on.
Speaker 2All right, then. And the other big question I've got for you now. So, surely you're not riding scooters again, Bailey?
Speaker 27No, no, no. God, no. They've, yeah, the post-traumatic. He's still definitely well and true there. But I try and avoid them as much as I can. But, unfortunately, everyone seems to be messaging me and letting me know that they've seen a scooter on their travels. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's great, yeah.
Speaker 26I love your dad when I saw him. He was obviously, everyone was thinking of you there for a few days. But then when you were sort of in the all clear, he said, he's forever going to be known as Scooter from now on.
Speaker 2And you recovered pretty well. You hurt yourself pretty badly.
Speaker 27Yeah, I did a fair bit of damage. But, no, I've come through it well. I was a bit slow for a couple of weeks. And, yeah, I sort of found my ground again, which is good. I was a little bit worried for a little bit there. And everything seems to be on the up now.
Speaker 2All right, then. Beautiful, mate. Any winners for us coming up?
Speaker 27I've got nothing actually engaged. But I've got a couple nominated on Pride at Bathurst in the three-year-old. I reckon they'll be, depending on the field, obviously. But I reckon they'll be, you know, running the top three for sure.
Speaker 26All right.
Speaker 27Beautiful.
Speaker 26Keep an eye on them. Well done. Exciting times ahead. And we look forward to seeing him back in action. He's justifiably into sort of second or third favourite. But I'll tell you what, if he comes back and makes a statement early, I think he'll be rocketing up the markets, this horse. He's my clear second pick at the moment. Oh, I have backed him. Yes, I have. I backed him nice and early. I love this horse. I think he's on the way to being in all the Grand Circuit races in time as well.
Speaker 2All right, then. Well, you go and get them. You've got pressure now from Adam Bailey. But we hope you get the job done there in the Eureka.
Speaker 27Thanks, guys. I really appreciate it.
Speaker 2That's Bailey McDonagh. I think it's good that we've got a good young trainer coming through the ranks who has an opportunity to win a Eureka and take on some of the biggest stables.
Speaker 26Well, I think if you look at the two horses so far, they're two of the young stars of New South Wales harness racing, aren't they, in Seton Grimer and Bailey McDonagh. So, you know, there's been, there's no doubt the big, powerful Emma Stewart-Clayton-Tonkin stable have been the absolute prime force in the Tab Eureka in its three-year history. But I can see that evolving a bit. Yes, there'll be players this year, but I don't think they're going to take a dominant hand into it at all.
Speaker 2What about the rev up I gave Paddy Lee? It obviously worked.
Speaker 26Did you see their strike rate? So, Tim O'Connor just sent me through over the weekend since they became the partnership and Paddy will probably say I've taken mum to a whole new level. But since they became the partnership, they've clocked up 200 winners, but their strike rate is 27.7%. That's phenomenal. It does help when you've got Keane Sahara in your backyard. Well, it does, but is she going to, where is she? We haven't seen her for a while.
Speaker 2We'll ask Paddy and Will Rickson straight after this here on Facing the Breeze. This is Giddy Up All Things Tibet 365. Welcome back to Giddy Up Things for Gareth, Austin, Hound, Will Rickson and Paddy Lee. Join myself, Gareth Hall, and Adam Hamilton as we talk harness racing. First of all, to you, Will, congratulations. New South Wales, a big night for them because you were crowned the best drivers in Australia, Adam. With Ashley winning, of course, the Australian Driving Championship.
Speaker 26Yeah, absolutely. And a historic moment, Ashley becoming the first female to win the series as well. She'd finished second a couple of years earlier. And way back in, I'm going to say 2015, Danny Hill finished second as well. But I think it's not only great for Ashley. I think it's just fitting given the massive role that the females have in driving now that that first has been put on the board. And that was a real. It was a really, really exciting series over there. So they don't get a lot of time in the spotlight, South Australia, but it was great racing last Saturday night. And now they roll into the Radiant down at Port Pirie as well.
Speaker 2So well done to Ashley De Loza. She is Australia's champion driver after winning the championship there, Will Rickson. So a proud moment for everybody involved in New South Wales harness racing.
Speaker 28Yep, that's for sure, Gareth. I try to tell you all the time that Sydney's got the strongest drivers room. So she did an awesome job. Pretty hard to win those series. And like, yeah, especially the competition she was up against. So she did a great job and pretty, pretty crazy to even think that that was the first lady to do so with all the successful lady drivers we've had over the years in Australia. There's been, you know, some pretty amazing achievements that women have achieved in this sport. So pretty cool thing for Ash to achieve.
Speaker 26Yeah. And Gareth, I think one of the. one of the great things about it is just never too late to start in the sport so ashley's not from a harness family she i think she was working in a retail store she you know she used to ride horses and stuff like that but then she started working with grant and trista dixon when she was 19 and it's all come from there so are you telling me
Speaker 2i'm still a chance
Speaker 26maybe not at your age maybe not at your age although patty with the strike rate they've got it if they can uh if they can apply that to you if you gave
Speaker 2it a crack well patty can't even get a winner despite their strike rate being at 27 since he joined the ticket there with marg lee um patty you're out of form but now you're back in form with a big night there at geelong
Speaker 29yeah no we fired a shot g it was finally uh yeah good to uh to get back into the winning circle and and win a couple of handy races um and then do it twice in the one year as well with both horses which is quite a good achievement from mark is it true that you
Speaker 2went up to jason grimson after the race and said where's swasey's heart no
Speaker 29definitely not i think that's the first time we've ever beaten uh one of jason's horses home so we were no we're just more than happy to um yeah beat him home for once knowing that yeah he's got a true team and um yeah i thought swasey was still a terrific good run um he set the tempo up and he was still coming on the line
Speaker 26i want to dissect that race with um both yourself and will in a moment and and the trotting race as well but firstly back to the winner i mean there's marvel and there's marvels we're talking about a horse in jillaby nitro who was an outstanding young horse and you know i mean will's been really close to the horse at different times as well so but to come back i mean this is up with as satisfying as it gets isn't it to be winning races like this with a horse who started racing seven years ago
Speaker 29yeah 100 it probably just goes to show like um bulletproof boy and triple a and the max delight like um probably more now than our horses are racing to the peak of their powers the older they get and i know he was like a three-time or a two two-time group one winner at two but um it just goes to show that um the breed of our horses now and um the way that racing's got getting quicker that it's still a fantastic effort to be able to get horses to race this well at the peak of their powers um
Speaker 26this far into their career an imperial monarch a trotter that you've i know the team's always had a good opinion of it's um it's been sort of a bit of a struggle but i think it's been a bit of a slow burn but um once imperial monarch got around and and got in front of rocking with attitude it was always looking good in the run patty
Speaker 29yeah that always helped sort of having the 10 meter advantage on her and um being able to move around the field pretty easy and and probably get a first easy 800 of the race and then start to get going from there it was always going to be tough for um for her to beat him but she was also mighty in defeat as well and um yeah it's just he's probably mixed his form a little bit from time to time but yeah i think he's probably racing a real purple patch at the
Speaker 2minute i reckon um back to the paces i reckon swazy was okay
Speaker 26no he was definitely okay i mean you he needed he needed the run obviously he was he needed the run and that and that's how jason drove him isn't it you know he no he didn't travel he was asking him even at the what eight nine hundred he was sort of throwing the reins at him and asking him but in typical swazy fashion on the home turn he was going to run last and he he's coming back on the line and he's beaten what a meter and a bit it's still concerning a little
Speaker 2bit how he's got no disrespect um no disrespect patty but jilly b nitro
Speaker 26going past him yeah it is
Speaker 2yeah but so he can't win a victoria cup on that unless he improves out of sight you just wouldn't
Speaker 26think he'd go to a victoria cup would you like probably if he's going to go to new zealand i imagine he'll he'd go back home have another run or two in man angle um he'll obviously come on a lot from that i'd say i'd say he's going to go to new zealand i'd say he's going to go to new zealand he's got a pass mark but his next run is going to be like he's got to improve a fair bit on that on his next run type of type
Speaker 2of performance in a turnbull yeah
Speaker 26maybe well i thought he went even slightly better than sir you know comparatively but yes um and then what do we make of minos because on the home turn minos was just gonna win for fun but he he didn't ping did he well
Speaker 28yeah i thought he run his race in patches a little bit like at one stage i was watching him thinking that uh he was traveling and was going to get sprint lane and when in other stages at like sort of the 600 he was off the bit so um he did trial a bit that way where he could uh lose a little bit of concentration and stuff so i thought he was probably a similar thing to swayze i thought he was a pass mask but i also thought that he was there to win if he was good enough as well so um you know mick stanley's bloke and nitro were off the fence and come the widest so you just can't take anything away from them like minos and swayze didn't have to really be opened up too much to find the defense even though um they run a pretty solid after that so yeah i thought their runs were both okay yeah i
Speaker 26think maybe maybe both being first up and virtually a track record time you know you've just got to be a little bit forgiving of them but i think what it really underlines is how far ahead leap to fame in captain's mistress are on the rest at the moment um and now we go back to what we made of kingman who i thought was well he was a lot better last saturday night the king's back well what are the ball what did you think will yeah i
Speaker 28thought uh he showed really good signs to be like a 26 third quarter and him just be bolting the way he was in that in that quarter and then obviously um looks as though he found the line pretty good so i mean you'd have to be happy enough going off that run to be you know definitely going into the victoria cup with a bit more confidence so yeah it didn't surprise me he had a he had a very soft run but um he showed good signs
Speaker 2653 three's own last half but um and the way
Speaker 2he did it i agree with will like he was he was running over the top of them down the back when they're running those times so he
Speaker 26was and he pulled a length off the mayor the mayor was probably given you know as easier yeah time as possible it turned into a 600 meter run home um i mean let's get to the real question though can he possibly beat her in a victoria cup he's he's got a lead to have a
Speaker 2chance if he draws one and she draws 12 i'd back him yeah yeah would you like um is that the only
Speaker 26way though probably
Speaker 2she's unbeatable in front over 2200 meters oh no i know
Speaker 26totally if she gets in front of him you just can't see a scenario where he can beat her no so but if what about if it's the other way around will yeah it's
Speaker 28interesting like if you drew really good you're still going to have maybe three or four other chases in the race so it's like dangerous so one of them's really quick off the gate so i mean the draw is going to be vital but um if he brings his best form i feel as though he can beat her but if he's in that best form i just don't know if he's going to be able to i think i want to see him do it before you would go ahead and say he could but like he's his victoria cup run last year if he repeats that like he could definitely beat and even what he did at shepparton that night when leap of fame got on his back he still held him off like when he's right he's incredible horse so um it's good for the race that he's come out and put a good run in and and he's definitely going to be down there that's for sure yeah i
Speaker 26think i think you're i think the signs are really good and and it's what we needed to see from him i still think we don't know if he's back to the horse that he was that's that's the thing what's he going to do off the pegs um all that sort of thing i thought we might have seen dangerous in the smoking up sprint he was nominated on saturday night but he's not coming down here um fighter command has drawn two in that one uh what else have we got uh our sunset delight is in three sir jimmy's in six ultimate barney's drawn eight bulletproof boys drawn 10 and hesitate draws 11 and we'll have a look at the derby heats and and other things in just a moment but yeah i mean the victoria cup is is hers to lose
Speaker 2isn't it yeah she's just and as will makes a really good point the army of the grimson runners is going to help her cause as well because there's going to be pace on regardless um yeah hey we're going to take a break we'll come back and we'll have a look at those derby fields next here on giddy up and this is facing the breeze all thanks to garrett's horse and hounds join the conversation text
Speaker 1us on oh four double nine seven three six seven three six live across australia this is giddy up with gareth hall welcome back to
Speaker 2giddy up adam hamilton you have a look at the fields there for the derby and the oaks yeah i'm coming up at melton on saturday night the heats they
Speaker 26are yeah absolutely so um key in the derby heats race two is heat one will be sniper draws one good opinion of him big step up though cardigan dan two uh andretti for grimson hart draws four uh soho charmer out in six mount barker boys seven enjoy life nine um katari rimu interesting runner across from new zealand nice three-year-old like been running in the really good races there adds a lot to the derby but draws 10 kate gaff to take the drive uh heat two good quality here brooklyn dan one soho trump two le cardinal three uh then we go to better left alone eight love be up to me nine most exciting out in 11 and then heat three palladium who i think will be as hard to beat as any if it brings that queensland derby form well let's draw on the pole and should be winning race for the third heat a chewer magic in four nimble who did beat palladium in the carousel final but draws out in five seaside boys seven dynamite dan in nine and then we go to the oaks heats which are at the back end of the program their races uh eight and nine uh delizioso draws one willow's girl will probably be favorite from two preeminent out in nine ripples draws out in seven uh cyclone jenny nine and then in the second heat jason grimson's bought the queen's gambit down draws inside the back row better beach will be the one to beat there from barrier two so um the derby's a lot stronger than the oaks to be honest and and just quickly on the dullard trotters cup as well you've got jillaby dream lover and imperial monarch there patty and jillaby dream lover draws to use her gate speed in three
Speaker 29yeah um she probably just raced a little bit flat through the sires but um yeah her bloods weren't ideal we just had a bit of an issue going on there so she'll trial tonight at terang and um hopefully look like she's
Speaker 2um back to where she needs to be beautiful and um patty you've got you've got something to going on pretty good there at terang
Speaker 29yeah we've just got the the uh the train uh stallion tender like you you take your hat off to all the the studs and that that give the opportunity to um to give your stallions to raise your club money so like right eye by abiske elder baron zeus help is on its way act now um marriage hanover soho lanakai copy that the locomotive fast as the wind and war away needy so they've got a really good option there at terang so it'll be up on their terrain harness racing club facebook page so if anyone wants to go to those stallions it'd be nice to uh support the club and um bid on those stallions beautiful
Speaker 2and um we've got the radiant this saturday nominations have been extended but i'm think i've got it i think i've got angus garrard there i think how are you looking there jay you confident well i don't know yeah we're gonna see if he can we can steer him but they tell me he worked the house down on saturday so um we've got a good trainer tyson link very good trainer yeah well
Speaker 26he um of course he's got a good course tyson owned trained uh yeah in cypher bred it um prepared it early and and it went on and won yeah uh eureka as well so good luck there that i think the signs are you're coming right at the
Speaker 28right time
Speaker 2are you are you doing
Speaker 28anything saturday night will uh yeah i'd say i'll be at home okay
Speaker 26so you're telling me i'm a chance got a big night coming up at menangle garrard okay well he's got
Speaker 2yeah
Speaker 26um
Speaker 2no 10% of 50 000 i'll double it to 10% so there you go surely angus will come anyway yeah
Speaker 26well let's hope you get angus um because alex ashwood's going over to drive for that'd be good to
Speaker 2listen be some pace off the
Speaker 26back yeah and uh and seton grimer as well there'll be more we'll
Speaker 2be going 23 off the back so
Speaker 26look it's great the club deserves massive credit for it and um and yeah i can't wait to get over there it's a it's it's their version of birchip isn't it
Speaker 2yes and skinny dippin takes out the wa oaks
Speaker 26yeah and a cornella for team bond another big win for um for denny roberts as
Speaker 2well any winners for us patty um maybe
Speaker 29just follow keen passion through the oaks gee she's um done a really good job over the last month but uh friday night fields aren't out if ruby ruby's dream draws the front row she'd be hard to beat you've
Speaker 2done a great job with her yeah yeah about time you tip us a winner what about you um
Speaker 28will i got a drive in about 25 minutes time gareth that's one it's last three in melbourne called um out of baron den bay i think yeah uh it's pretty short but i think i'll
Speaker 29win all right then hey hey gee quick one for you a couple of weeks ago young jack kelly wasn't happy that we were you know potting him about having to leave uh danny's hometown but he said you know he might have been ran out of town but he said he took
Speaker 2yeah that's a very good point he makes jack kelly and um and he won a nugget
Speaker 28too gareth he won a he won a nugget oh did he really you might have forgot
Speaker 2that well i have forgotten about it tell him i don't watch tell him i don't watch newcastle much much anymore and
Speaker 28cameron hart also mentioned he won an olive oil there too oh did
Speaker 2he too yeah um and now he said he
Speaker 28pulled
Speaker 2gary hall's pants down to win it yeah but since then he hasn't been able to realize they they work they leave him three wide without cover and the other question is how is your love life will i've had a lot of people text me uh yeah nothing to report no very quiet no there you go well i won't give you up just yet i won't give you up just yet but come clean otherwise i will next week i've heard you have found love yeah no that that ain't true so uh all right then yeah i'm not sure where you're getting that info from but it's all right good on you brother thanks for that i'm winning form yeah strong winning form they they can't come at me really because they know that i know too much they're getting a bit smart for their own good these days those two well that's good that's that's what we want a bit of confidence all right then any winners
Speaker 26from you adam uh no i just let me let me dive into these uh melton melton meeting and we'll uh we'll chat later in the week mate can't wait for it good on
Speaker 2you mate thank you there's adam hamilton we'll come back with plenty more straight after this join the conversation
Speaker 1you live across australia this is giddy up with gareth hall welcome back to giddy up now we're
Speaker 2going to replay you the interview that we did with sack purton straight after that k-ing rising trial today we had a little trouble getting on to zach but eventually we got there so here's a replay from early on this morning with my chat with zach pert the champion hong kong rider after he trialed the champ k-ing rising i reckon we've got zach again zach you there brother all right
Speaker 15all right yeah i am i am and i could hear you i don't know why you couldn't hear me but anyway
Speaker 2let's let's try again all right then so um was it a
Speaker 15better trial than it was last year i think it was probably slightly better than what was last year he seemed a little bit more comfortable in the ground through the most part of the trial but he just labors in the ground when you want him to pick up uh he didn't change his leg and then he pulled up having a really big blow um he blew more after this trial than he did after his race um in hong kong so i think when he gets to trailer he just gets away from us a little bit all the time yeah which is a bit frustrating because
Speaker 2that was the whole idea let him off the let him off the leash there first up at chartin to smash the clock and and complete that magnificent performance and um smash his own track record by nearly a second because you wanted to keep him keep him trim for this um well it was it was but
Speaker 15he gets he gets to canterbury and now he just picks grass all day and i keep telling david stop letting him eat grass he doesn't eat grass in hong kong but he can't help it he said he'll he said he loves it i said i don't care if he loves it he's a resource not a pet do you know
Speaker 2do you know do you know why like he's got one he's got some entourage there as well here in australia he's got about six handles so he's got to do something i guess well that's true yeah they can walk him up and down the streets all day that'd be my preference so this time last year he had that jar that he gallops i think on monday before the everest so um will you be back to to ride him on the monday or do you just let the track no i
Speaker 15won't do that no no yeah the work he's very familiar with the horse as you'd expect um so i will leave them in charge and i'll be back down next friday for the race on saturday did you think who the hell is this coming alongside me well i didn't look to see who it was but i thought someone might be trying to sort of test themselves to see how they could measure up against us and you know they've certainly done that in a barrier trial but you know race day is always going to be a little bit different um hopefully we get a drier track on race day so you're not concerned whatsoever there's ack oh of course there's concern you know putting five six seven lengths on them and having a nice easy time of things but you know the track's a bit soft and he's had a good blow he'll improve but he's going to need to yeah you never let him
Speaker 2go but you gave him a good push after the line as well yeah i
Speaker 15did a similar thing last year just let him do a little bit more work through the line it's only a thousand meter trial he's running 1200 in a race and you know the way he's bludgeoning he's he's sort of not doing um as much as we want him to do so we'll make him i can do that a little bit extra are you scared of anyone of course yeah it's a strong race tempting was very impressive the other day she's improved a lot in the last year obviously made just a little bit worse at the weights but um she's improved um enough to offset that ninjas obviously just try it up against us jolly star was up on the throttle behind us um you're throwing jimmy star and yeah he's gonna run and and um you know as you'd expect it's gonna be another
Speaker 2um exciting race i've got the the forecast there for every day you'll be right zach it's not gonna rain you'll be right okay no
Speaker 15worries i'll get them to get get the mile route and drop it an extra two inches as well you'll be
Speaker 2on a good track and you got blue to auto ratio in the early part just to keep him interested and then away he goes so um so david wasn't stressed at all either he just thought well this is what he usually does but just you're just going to tell him to feed him less grass at the end of the day
Speaker 15even if he was stressed he wouldn't tell you would he no no
Speaker 2and you know what he'll tell me he'll go gareth i bet you zach played it down and he's trolling no good he
Speaker 15doesn't handle the same track i've been trying i've been trying to tell him for two years he does a lot soft ground but he's not convinced. He doesn't believe me. That's why you wouldn't go to Royal Ascot then. Well, maybe. Yeah, that might be part of it. But this year they had a nice dry track and you never know. He could get a dry track up there, but we're not going to find out for a while anyway.
Speaker 2Have you got any other rides on Saturday week?
Speaker 15I do have a couple. I can't tell you what they are. Pop-ups do all my rides, so he's handling that. Just, yeah, waiting on another couple as well. All right, we'll let you go. I'm with the Roosters, brother.
Speaker 2And how was the golf in Sydney?
Speaker 15It was good. I won five and four, so I've got that victory to hang my head on as well. It's nothing like keeping a jockey's confidence up.
Speaker 2I love winning. Organise that match race while you're in Sydney as well. Give us something to get excited about. Yeah, yeah, okay, okay. Tell them you'll go on a slow track over 1,400 metres. That might, like, prick their ears.
Speaker 15I'd end up with more than a match race and probably over a another 10 wanting to join it as well.
Speaker 2Yes, yes, yes. All right, brother. Thanks very much for joining us, mate. We do appreciate it. No worries, mate. He's ready to go, Carling Rising. Just got to stay off the grass. That was the main message. Yeah, exactly. That's it. Good on you, mate. Thanks for that. Thank you. And when I say Carling Rising, stay off the grass, not Snoop Dogg type of grass. I mean, eating grass. It's 11.50. This is what happened at Kalgoorlie there on Saturday in the slot race, the Golden Saddle.
Speaker 30And he's the king of Kalgoorlie now.
Speaker 2The man that they call Donger, Sean O'Donnell, because he's now won a Haddon's, a Coolgardie Cup, a Boulder Cup, a Kalgoorlie Cup. And a Golden Saddle now. So the big five, he's won all five of them. The Haddon's, the Coolgardie Cup, the Boulder Cup, the Kal Cup, and the Golden Saddle. And he is a superstar, this man. And he was aboard at Wanna Winner there on Saturday. And he joins us now. Congratulations, Sean. Well done.
Speaker 31Thanks, Gareth. Thanks for that intro. That was very kind of you.
Speaker 2Yeah, it was a big effort by that horse. Obviously, it worked out beautifully for him because it was an S.O. Donnell special. Gate seven leaders back. And the only place you wanted to be is on the fence there on Saturday.
Speaker 31Oh, absolutely. It was a very fast lane on that track on Saturday. And obviously, new sensation would be leading with Carl, the other horse, Mitchell Payment's horse, coming out. And I thought, if I can get leaders back and I can get a bit of room, he's going to be right in the finish, which, geez, he was right in the finish, right? He blew them away. He did. A very nice first ride on the horse, I could tell you that.
Speaker 2And so, that's when you're at your very best. I don't know if I've known any other jockey to jump on a horse for the first time and just wins. It's quite, it's unbelievable, really, Donger.
Speaker 31Yeah, it has happened a lot in my career. I'm not too sure why, but, hey, look, I'll claim it, mate. It's a good thing to happen to me.
Speaker 2So, from the gate that you had there on Saturday, was it just plan A and forget the other plans just to get to the fence there on Saturday with the other guys? With the way that that track was playing?
Speaker 31Yeah, absolutely. That was number one top priority and the ones inside me were a slow way and, obviously, Noski soared forward on sensation. I was able to get that beautiful breeze right up in behind him and once I got there and I had a man crush outside me with Holly Nottle on it and he looked like he was struggling at the 500, so there was no panic for me to try and manoeuvre or get out. I could just buy my time and, as you said, got out at the corner and it was all over, getting to the furlong.
Speaker 2And it must have been one of those rides there. It's a million-dollar race, so it's a good race to win for a jock and watching it, there was no other. It looked like you were home a long way from home, if you know what I mean.
Speaker 31Yeah, absolutely, and I totally agree. What an incredible race to win, the slot race and the golden saddle. Yeah, very honoured to be asked a ride, want a winner, and, look, he had the right. He had the right race all over. Since I put one around his backside at the 200, he just accelerated that strong. As you know, when you're not a horse, when they accelerate that quick, they have to be good, like Morton's horse, I thought it'd be a big chance, which he ran really good, a mortal bliss, but my bike was just too powerful.
Speaker 2Yeah. And what was the crowd like there on Saturday?
Speaker 31Yeah, it was very good. Hannon's day, not so much. It was a bit quieter, but I think the golden saddle and the Cal Cup and the Ron Sayers sprint and it was a fabulous meeting to be at and I think the whole crowd, the whole town, sorry, got behind the race course club on that day and it was a sensational crowd.
Speaker 2There's no stopping you either, Donger. You're just getting better.
Speaker 31Well, I turn 56 next week. 56? Yeah, I'm just. I love. You know me, Gareth. I just love racing. I love the horses. I love the industry and I just never wanted to stop, but one day I know it's going to have to stop, but until then, I just. No. Handle bars down, mate.
Speaker 2Well, there's a few that have retired lately, like Hawley started off, then Pete Nucky retired, Jason Brown's been retired in recent times, Shooter McGruddy's still going, Troy Turner's still going and, of course, yourself, Paddy Carberry's still going as well, so there's no stopping you old boys.
Speaker 31I think we're all in the same boat. We love riding and we're all quite light and obviously weight and injuries stop people riding, but. at this time in our life, we're still loving it and if you're getting the support, Gareth, you're still able to do the job, you know?
Speaker 2And you always find a good one, Donger.
Speaker 31Yeah. It's been a bit of a habit of mine which I'm very grateful for. Just the people I ride for, they've got a lot of good owners that buy horses and I'm lucky enough to now and then pick up good rides for other people. I don't know why. It just happens and I'm very grateful for it.
Speaker 2Have you got any winners for us at Bunbury? You ride Forever Elite, Shooters, Tokyo, Stormlord and Uncle Jared there tomorrow.
Speaker 31Yeah, Stormlord's run was. He run six out of six, but it was a very good run the other day and Uncle Jared, I was just held up on the fence from barrier one. He run fifth. It was a very good run. Tokyo Fire's always around. Yeah, they're nice horses, but you're looking to be top three for sure on those ones.
Speaker 2And have you got a horse that you're looking forward to for the carnival there in Western Australia?
Speaker 31Yeah, well, 2Darty will be coming back after his little spell and Jay Session is galloping up nicely again and I'm sure the Casey crew will have a nice ride somewhere there for me because Willie and Chris can't ride them all. So, you know, and I pick up rides from Danny Morton as well. So, if you're there, you have a chance to pick up something.
Speaker 2Yeah, and I forgot to mention Paul Harvey as well. He's still going around. He's had a few comebacks, however, the Pontiff, hasn't he?
Speaker 31Yeah, well, he had that bad shoulder injury like I did a few years ago, but yeah, he's back and willing and he's a happy chap. Old Pont, he's having a few laughs and he's riding a few winters for Harrow and different people. So, it's good to have the Pont back.
Speaker 2What was the jockey's room like when Pikey just went for home there on Cosmic Crusader and the Turnbull Stakes?
Speaker 31Mate, we were all cheering because, you know, the horse is from WA. Pikey's WA man and he loves WA and we thought it was all over at the 600 to be truthful. He was just smoking the pipe. It was beautiful.
Speaker 2And geez, he's up and about these days, Pikey. He can have his own radio show.
Speaker 31Yeah, he likes a bit of a chat, but, you know, he's like most of us. We all stay humble and not big-headed and yeah, good luck to him, mate. We, you know, anything to do with WA over Victoria or anywhere in Australia, we're all backing for him.
Speaker 2Good on you, brother. Hey, well done, mate. You're a sensation. Great for the game. At 56, still going strong. So, you just keep on sparring there, Donger. Well done on the weekend.
Speaker 31Thanks, buddy. I really love talking to you. Take care, buddy.
Speaker 2Good on you, mate. There's Shawnee O'Donnell. What a winner. Two-gold in the golden saddle. Daily wrap. Thanks to Lilydale Instant Lawn, Australian family-owned quality turf delivered on time every time. Our roots run deep. Paulie Sebastiani, a winner to leave us with.
Speaker 6Just one. Bet boost horse today, mate, at Mildura. We will lob down there and we'll have a bet in race number three and we'll be with number four, Royal Turf. Paddy Payne and Jack Martin can buy and get on.
Speaker 2We've got the Wednesday agenda tomorrow. Looking forward to that. Troy Causton. Haven't we put him on the map? He does TV shows and everything now, Troy. Sponsored by Ford, too. Every time I turn. Yeah, we might get David Hayes on. Looking forward to that and Calvin McAvoy will join us as well. Thanks for your company. Catch up with you tomorrow, hopefully from eight o'clock.
