Hey guys, welcome to Birdie Little Secrets. I'm Cass. That's it and it's time to spill the tea. Hi guys, welcome back to another episode of Birdie Little Secrets. This week we were still Texas 2 step in in Fort Worth. We have not left Cass's new home state. The tournament was a hot one from what I heard. Can you say a comeback? That's all I have. Okay. No great start. That was a great. Yeah, I felt like I had something to say and then I lost it all. But, Russell Henley, hi. Where were you all week? Yeah, no, we just popped out of nowhere. You know where genuinely where was Russell Henley all week? Honestly, I felt like it was the same. Like we were seeing the PGA Championship like deja vu. Like this was playing so hard for these guys. Everyone was so bunched up at the top of the leader. More of you truly had no idea who was going to I heart on my hand on my heart. Did not even know Russell Henley was like anywhere near the top in the mix. He wasn't in the mix, I don't think. I think he had like four bogeys on the front nine and then came out of nowhere with three back-to-back birdies. And was like, hi, I'm here. Hello. Did you guys forget about me because you better not of. I'm about to win this thing. Who's out there playing games? Yeah. Yeah. Although poor air coal because this feels like it was ripped out from underneath it. It actually kind of was like I'm not gonna lie to you, air coal. He was just on fire. Like I saw hit. I saw him on the lead award. I saw his name. I saw him doing really well all week because he was like at the top. Yeah. And then right. He was there. So that's why he saw him. Yeah. He was leading going into Sunday and oh man just nervous. I think he just got so nervous. And when the playoff happened, my heart broke a little because I could kind of I don't know you get that feeling. Like when you when you know the person you're ready for is kind of like not. Yeah. And not even that it's like whenever someone is it's like a story and it's like going to be their first win or it's like so amazing until they get into the playoff. And like the just part of you that knows like she's not going to win this one. Yeah. This is just like I don't know what it is. It's like I guess they break under pressure being in the playoff. They got there. And then all of a sudden it just gets to them. But you just you just know like there's a part of you that knows like okay is Russell Henley going to win this playoff or is Eric Holk in a win this playoff. Who's never won before and then there's Russell Henley who's like his what six career win. It was you know that's that's where like all four days of golf counts. It's not just how you play on rounds one two three. Yeah. All four days every whole regardless of a playoff hole. It's like you got to just say strong until the end. And it really thought he's going to be Eric Holk. But the second I saw playoff I was like oh no. Yeah. I love Eric Holk too. He's just one of these golfers who not many people I feel like no who he is or his name. You remember this cast when we it was the players like maybe two three years ago and he on the 17th green went up. He wanted to do this which I thought was so cool. He had such an interest in what the broadcast team does which is obviously what cast and I do. And with our team on PJ tour live you can literally like look it up. It's super cool. He went up into the tower on 17 and was trying to be a cameraman and try catching the ball that. And then he said I was like I think he said I was like harder to do that than actually hit the ball. Yes. He's like this is harder to actually do than hit the green at 17. It's like. Yeah. No that was so fun. I do remember that. It was really cool. Right. And it was so cool to be a part of that little segment as well. Because he wish like more players would be interested in what we do that right. That's what. But no they're just over here being like don't talk to me. It'd be so funny to get them in the control room and like call some of the shots. That would be fun. And so that cool did and he actually did a really good job. He did. And that's my little soft spot for air cool. That's how I remember him. But he. It other notable things from Eric cold you're like he won his the rookie of the year award. But he was how old was he at the time he was 35. That's right. He. I remember him winning and being like this is the definition of golf. You're 35 years old and you're winning rookie of the year. Like that's how. His mom like really got it off and hasn't she won that before. Yes. She was the L. F. G. A. tour rookie of the year in 1973. See. We know so much about. We're just like his biggest fans. I think. And not to take away not to take away from Russell. Emily because. We've had a great job of Russell. We've had Teal on the pod. Yes. Yes. No, we literally he's the best. She's the best. They're amazing. They're them and their family. But yeah, Eric cold was he. He's one of my favorites. He's his story is really cool. Yeah. Yeah. He just he also always has a big smile. It was pearly whites. They're always. Did you see his hair though? Yeah, I think in a comment on that because that's a choice. Yeah, well, it's something. I didn't really know what was going on with it. It looked very. Millet E, which I think was the vibe he was going for, but I also couldn't tell if it was like ponytail action. That's. I couldn't sneakily having happening over time. Like every once in a while. I'll look up like trying one producer saying they like, oh, who is that? And I'm like, Oh, that's Eric. Well, since when did he have like long hair? He wanted to grow hair. He used to be like very short buzz. I've. And so I feel like I've been watching it happen over time. Yeah, but then this week was really like, oh, wow, like he's like trying to be Gary Kigo. That's what he's trying to be. Yeah. - Oh yeah, Gareth Higgoh was in my group on Sunday, and he's full on man bun moment. - Was he on time? - He was on time. I will say this, he was on time. - And he, he learned his lesson. That is for sure. - Good, good, good and he was still on time. - He was on time, yeah. - He was playing with a friend's snetaker, and I just, oh wait, no, was he? - I'm sorry guys, I literally had so many different groups. - It's actually very concerning how confidently you just said that. - No, 'cause I don't think he was. It was Jackson Super was the other young guy with with friend snetaker, so never mind. That's not who I'm thinking of the group I was with. - He was with Gary Woodland I think. - I don't know, I can't remember. - Okay, you know what, maybe, yeah. Okay, we'll just pull up the pairings and-- - Maybe let's move on. - Let's, yeah. - Yeah. Overall, I can't remember this tournament. Maybe it was just the blur. I was the-- - I was gonna say you're gonna have to lead most of this because you were actually producing, and I was just watching from my couch. So I was gonna really let you take this away, but obviously you don't remember much. (laughing) - No, I promise, I promise. I'll take this away. One thing I do remember very, very clearly though is, and I think it's one of my favorite stories, was Ben Griffin, 'cause do you remember talking with Dana about their car that they won last year? - Yeah. - What was it, the 1992 Land Rover Defender? Beautiful baby blue, gorgeous, apparently. And he told this, yeah, just apparently, at the beginning of the tournament, he sat down in the press conference room and told this story, and he was like, 'cause he was asked about the car, like, oh, how are you enjoying it? And he's like, guys, I have something to tell you. Their car, when it was being shipped to them, to their home in Florida, was a part of a tractor trailer fire. So it was literally burned to like a black ash color. Like it was damaged like crazy. Yeah, it was, he's like, so, you know, I haven't really actually been able to like, - That's horrible. - So is he gonna get a new one? - Yeah, so the Charles Schwab team is working very diligently to restore the restored car, which, that luck is just insane. But he said, he's like, obviously, I have a car, so I'm not like needing a car. I was like, yeah, then Griffin, I think you're okay. - Like, we realize this is not gonna be your everyday. - Yeah, your everyday car vehicle. But the funniest thing that he said was, he was joking with his wife, that they're gonna nickname the car Ashley, 'cause Ash. Did you get that? - I get the jokes, I think. - Did you think? - Okay, good, yeah. - Thank you actually so much for immediately explaining that to me. - Yeah. - 'Cause I really, my face didn't give it away, but I didn't know it. - Yeah. - That is like, if that's a dad, I bet our director, Michael A.C. would have bought that. - Oh, yeah. - That is a dad joke if I've ever heard one. - Yeah. - Ben Griffin looks like the type of guy that would only give dad jokes. - Yeah, I agree with that actually. - Yeah. - He does seem like the guy that's out there just like cracking the-- - That's really unfortunate though. - Like pretty bad luck, honestly. - Yeah, well, he almost this week won the new card. - He was very, very close to defending his title. - Again, like we said, the tournament was in running, there was no one who was running away with it. Obviously it ended in a playoff between Eric Cole and Russell Henley, but Ben Griffin was in the mix. And the car they would have won this year or Russell Henley did win was the, what was it? The, you got this girl? - No, I just wrote it because I'm the stats girl. And I'm, oh, yes, yes, yes, yes, here it is, here it is. A fully restored and modernized 1982 Jeep Scrambler called the Schwab Scrambler. - I love that. - What? (laughing) - Wow, that sounds like a breakfast plate. - It does. It was the car, it was sitting on 18 green, it's so beautiful. I was like, this would be the one I would love. Like the Jeep kind of vibe, I just, in blue, so cute. Yeah. But I guess I just need to win the Troubleshwab Challenge, but, but like you're almost there. - You almost had a birdie. - Guys, like follow us on Instagram, 'cause I'm very close. - Stop with your plugs. - Why? I have to, they need to see me make my birdie. - Okay, but we need, yes, you're right. - I need to see you make your birdie before, like this is crazy. You're gonna get there, Sid. - And then you're gonna win the Troubleshwab Challenge. - And then it's probably gonna light on fire. - Yeah. - Well, that would happen to me, I think. - Or you could go to pretty much any tournament and not any, but I think a lot of them and just make a hole in one. And a lot of times you wanna car that way. - Yeah, that's super, like the Genesis invitation. - Yes, yeah, definitely. I'll definitely target the car tournaments. Like Genesis, Cadillac, Troubleshwab, you know, I'll definitely target those. - Yeah, okay. - And I'll be here to watch, and sure you want, for sure. - And not at all make fun of you when you shouldn't go. (laughs) - Hmm, I said I wouldn't. - Okay, yeah, yeah. - I trust you. - I trust you. - Okay, perfect. - Perfect. Guys, I need to make my birdie first before I have a go-all, Bryce and Dishyambo and try to make a hole in one over my house. - This is, that's kind of what I was getting at, yeah. - Yeah. - Yeah. - That I am not like, Bryce and Dishyambo, is that what I was just to read? - Yeah, I'm around about way, that's what I was saying. - Oh, okay, perfect. - You're just out here trying to win a car. - Yeah. - And I'm here for you. - Thank you. - The support, that's all I need. That's all I need for me. - You're welcome. - Okay, moving on. (laughs) - We're off the rails again. - Today, that's okay. Well, honestly, it's a pretty straightforward, actually that's a lie. I was gonna say it was a pretty straightforward tournament, but that's actually not true, because nobody expected Russell, head and lean, and then he came from behind, totally one, took away. I mean, that was dramatic fashion, if I've ever seen it. And I think everyone was laughing, honestly, in the best way possible. How did that just happen? - Like I would love to re-interview Tiel and be like, "Were you, did you wear a Sunday fit?" Like, did we even expect to be taking pictures? But that's been weirdly happening a lot, I feel. - Yeah. - I think it's the, Burtillo secret blessing again. We've interviewed her, so of course he goes to wins. (laughs) - Month ago, but who's counting? - Yeah, I think though, I was most surprised with his reaction. - Did you? - Yeah. - Did you see that? - Yeah. - I think that's the most emotion I've seen. - And I made it, yeah. - From Russell Henley in like a long time. - Well, he was probably also confused. (laughs) He was like, "Wait, how did I get here?" - No, I mean, that's just the way that this game goes. This crazy, crazy game of golf. It could either be the person wearing a wire winning the whole week, and you just are ready for them to take it home, or somebody that was not in the mix as much as you thought. - Yep. - And, you know, that's what we love it. - It's true, that's why we love to talk about it and work in it and do all the, interview all the wives, 'cause even hearing from their perspective of like, "So he was nowhere near the top. What were you thinking?" Like when he actually was going into Sunday, like with a chance. - Oh, I love when the wives keep it real. - I know, and especially this next Wag, we have kept it very, very real in a very similar fashion to Russell Henley this week. So let's welcome Aaron Reyes' wife, on to the pod. (upbeat music) - This week on "Birdy Little Secrets," we have a major guest, not only is she the wife of a major winner. She's made a name for herself as a professional golfer on the ladies' European tour as well. From hoisting the trophy at the Masters Part Three contest to celebrating a win at a Rodomick, the rise are quite the golf duo. So let's welcome Karika Rye, on to the podcast. - Hey guys, so nice to be here. How are you, Cass? How are you, Sid? - We are amazing. First of all, the fact that we're even speaking to you, we have to pinch ourselves like, - Uh, no. - How crazy is it? I feel like we reached out a week before the PGH Championship. This is a little inside behind the scenes guys that we're breaking down here. We reached out because we just loved you guys. We love Aaron. He's so fun to watch on TV that we're like, we have to get her on the podcast. And then the birdie little secrets effect went into effect. We like to say that. We like to take credit for as many things as we can here. And he wins the PGH Championship. - Yeah. - How can we say that? You can't make this up. I, we're so grateful to have you on the podcast and to speak with you. We'll get into literally everything. - It's nice to be here. - Like we literally can't wait to jump into everything. But to start, we always love to hear about the love story. We have to know how you guys met from the very beginning and we'll get through all the way until hosting a trophy at a major. So start from the beginning. - That's a very long journey. (laughing) - So, Aaron and I, we actually met in 2018 for the first time. So Aaron was still on the DP World tour. He had come to India to play at my home course. So he was playing a tournament called the Indian Open. It's still a part of the DP World, that tournament. And it's still at my home course and it was still at my home course back in 2018. So Aaron actually came to play that tournament and my younger brother is a professional golfer as well. At that time he was volunteering for Aaron's group. 'Cause he was a kid. I mean, he's younger to me as well. And this is like almost eight years ago that he was speaking about. So he was like a little baby and he was a volunteer in Aaron's group. So like keeping the score and everything. - Yeah. - So I was just kind of around at the tournament just watching the leader groups and everything but then I kind of got a little bored and I wanted to hang out with my brother. So I gave him a call and I'm like, "Where are you?" And he's like, "Oh, I'm on the 10th hole. You should come." He's like, "There's a nice, like an Indian origin boy as well who's playing here. You learn from him, watch him, watch his game." 'Cause we, both my brother and I, we were like aspiring pros at that time. - Yeah. - So Sam, like, "Okay, I'll come. "At least I get to hang out with you as well "cause I'm getting really bored by myself now." So I joined my brother. And then I started walking with him. And Aaron's mom was there at that tournament. And both of us, we started speaking. She asked me, "Oh, are you walking with someone "in particular in this group?" I'm like, "No, I don't know any of the players "but I do know the volunteer 'cause that's my brother." So I'm actually just walking with my brother. I'm not able to watch the players or anything. So then we started speaking and everything. And then I ended up walking the entire back nine with them. And then on the 18th, near the green, she tells me that I want you to wait here and I want you to meet my son. - Oh my God. - And I obviously felt like a little awkward with that, but then she was so nice. She was so amazing as well. For the entire back nine. So I was good, I'll wait here. And now the really funny part is that somebody that I know was standing next to me watching the groups finish on the 18th. And that person turns towards me and he's like, "If I didn't know any better, I feel Aaron's mom "is trying to set the both of you up." I'm like, "Who is who?" And it was just all this is bizarre. at that point of time. So then I waited on the 18th for Aaron to go and submit his co-card and he came out then his, yeah, his mom just introduced the two of us and then she's like, "My God, I should exchange numbers." That is everything. It feels like your brother was in on this too. I don't know. I think so, I think so, definitely. Probably. I'm very close to my brother and he's always, even though he's younger than me, sometimes he behaves like an older brother and he's just, he always keeps an eye out for me for my well-being. So I wouldn't be surprised if he kind of had something cooking for the long term as well. So we joke that it was my brother from my side and Aaron's mom from his side who played the matchmakers for us. Wow. What a successful matchmaking situation. I feel like we've all been in a scenario where we like me, a mom, or a parent's out and they're like, "Oh my God, you'd be perfect for my son." And like it never actually works out, but like this is perfect. Yeah, that's true. That's true. And the rest is history. Yeah. So, yeah, I mean, we were like, really, we were, I mean, we were good friends for some time. Obviously, Aaron was still on the DP World tour trying to find his momentum for qualifying for the PJ tour and everything. So we were like, touch very on and off because obviously we both were focusing on our careers. I had soon after turned professional as well. He was already on the DP World at that time. So we had like a lot on our plate as well, but I think we remained still like good friends. And then, yeah, just like very recently, he just kind of came back and do my life and it was, it was all very, very different this time. Very different this time. Wow. That's amazing. That's such an awesome story. I wish my mom had those skills of picking people. Like, I love how his mom was like, "My son will be a professional golfer one day and you will too." So I think this needs to happen here. Yeah, guys are going to be, she did ask me, like she did ask me all the questions. Like she did ask me, what do you plan on doing from here on? Where did you study? What did you study? So she got like her information. She was like, check, check. Check the form. Perfect. So I'm curious since you were a golfer, did you ever see yourself marrying a golfer? Or was that like, like almost like, no, I don't want to marry a golfer? I mean, I was, I was never like against it. I was never completely forward. I think I was very indifferent. Yeah. I think for me, what was most important for me that I was with a person who was caring, compassionate, loving. For me, like, that was, that was big. And that was because if a person has those traits, they will understand everything, even if he was to be a non-golfer, they would still understand the part in parcel of me being a professional golfer as well. So I was pretty indifferent to that. Even though like my friend, my best friend used to joke, she's like, I really don't think you should be with a non-golfer because they will not understand your lifestyle. Like, they will not understand why you sleep so much on time, why you wake up so early, why you work out so much, why you practice so much. And I'm like, no, I probably they'll understand. But I think- You can find the right one. In hindsight. Yeah. In hindsight, like, now that I'm yeah, actually mad at to a professional golfer as well, I feel like this, this was the best way to be for someone like me because I'm extremely passionate for this sport and I'm extremely honest to my profession of being a golfer as well. So I think- It's hard for me to imagine now, like, what did life would have been? Had it been a non-golfer that I was with? Right. The good part is I don't have to imagine it so good for me. Yeah, there you go. I feel like golf itself to the sport just honestly takes so much passion to have and takes so much not even like passion itself, but like dedication and mental toughness and it just takes so much almost out of you that I feel like a lot of people who don't know the sport. Me, like, speaking from myself as well, from not knowing the sport, like, until a few years ago, like, I didn't know how much. I thought golf was just like, you're out there as a hobby. You know, I couldn't see past that now, especially being with you in so many wags and like hearing all these stories, I truly have such a respect for how much it takes, especially I can't imagine any relationship as well. Like early on in your guys's professional careers, how did you guys make that relationship work? Because I can imagine traveling to tournaments, your guys' schedules are insane and that pressure can kind of get a lot on each other's shoulders. So how was your early on relationship like? I mean, it was actually very quite smooth because I think Aaron's an extremely understanding person and golf has been a very, very big part of his life and I think he just absolutely loves that part of me where I compete as well. Like, he's absolutely in love with that part and he admires it and he loves to see me compete as well. So there was nothing but motivation from his end for me to keep playing. I mean, he never asked me to be that any tournament really, was always my choice that if I want to come out early on in the relationship that I'm coming out, but he would almost always say, "Why don't you, why are you missing a tournament, clear that tournament?" Even though in magnitude they're not big tournaments compared to the PGA tour, right? But for him, it was never about the magnitude. It was just always about the game and that I'm sure like that has come across like quite clearly with all his interviews and everything that he said. Like just how much the game means to him and not anything else that's associated with that. So I think it was quite nice. I was still a lot more based in India. I wasn't here in America. So I was playing tournaments back in India. He was playing tournaments here and then we used to kind of make things work with the time difference and everything, but it was really nice as well. And you guys have carried for each other, right? At tournaments. So he carried for me last year at the Women's Indian Open. So he carried for me for the first time ever there. I think I only really carried for him at the part three at the Masters, but not to carry him. If there was one, I could pick it probably. I'll just be that one too. Yeah, exactly. And it's such a nice environment as well. I think my only concern with Cadyne for Aaron is that he's a very methodical player and he's very calculative and very particular with things like that you know, that's a lot of pressure. Yeah, not just that, but even in the sense that the way he plans the golf course, the way he plans his shots and everything, it's very meticulous and detailed. And obviously there's some kind of assurance that he needs from his Cady when he's about to execute certain shots. And I'm like, that's a lot of pressure from being given that assurance and just blindly or not blindly be like, yes, that's right. That's not right. What if it's not right? You're like, I'll be here on the outside of the road. Yeah, no worries. Yeah. I'm quite comfortable with that, honestly, but yeah, I think I do enjoy a lot the parts, the masters, like it's so amazing, so special. So I think I'm okay picking up that bag at that course, but that's pretty much about it. And let's not lie, somehow Gado, Major Guts do actually Cadyne and tournament. It's not changing anytime soon. Okay, we'll be watching. Oh, yeah, definitely. I'm actually curious to, before we go, ask more about the part three because we are obsessed with that tournament, like seeing the wags out there on the bag is our favorite thing. It's like our Super Bowl. But how did you feel with Erin on your bag, Ben? Like, was he nervous to Cady for you? Now, I think he was quite comfortable. And I think he was just really special for us. Yeah, it was also like really special for us because the women's Indian Open is also at the same course where we met my home course. So it was just very special for us to go back to that tournament. And both the tournaments are also held by the same title sponsor as well. So it was, it just brought back a lot of memories because the golf course was the same when I had first met him. The back line was the same. Everything was the same. Wow. So it just got like brought back a lot of memories. And it was the first time that I was also coming back to my home course with my husband, like people hadn't met Erin until then. So it was just like, there was so much happening, yeah, there was so much just happening away from the golf. as well, like in terms of up-o-sense space during that week. I think it was, it was just beautiful having him on my bag and sharing that with him. It was really nice. That's so special. Oh my god. So that was the first time a lot of your family met him? It was not the family. My family had met them before, but met him before. But it was the first time that my, like the golfing circle was meeting out. Basically, it was the first time that they were meeting people from my home course. Just everybody, because I've literally grown up at that golf course. I've been there since the age of 12 and I'm 27 now. So I would have then formed like an association at that course and everybody was so excited to meet Aaron, meet my husband and more than just Aaron, like this, because they've seen me grow up as well at that course. So it was also special kind of sharing that with him and for the golfing circle meeting Aaron as well. It was really special. Well, you said your husband, we have to talk about the wedding. I was, yes, how on the like, like, lock we are. I was just about to say, you said your husband twice, I'm like biting at the bit. Like, we need to, like, yes, I love it. How, like tell us everything about the wedding. So we actually had, we had three weddings last year. So we had, so we had, we had a legal wedding and it's crazy seeing it out loud, but we had the legal wedding in last week is. So we just got married at the courthouse there. Yeah, that's so fun. I would have, I don't think I would have ever guessed that word. Exactly. Exactly. Exactly. We got hitched in Vegas. Wait, I love that word. It's so cute. Like, like, we still have, like, just little hot sticker that they gave us, like, maddened wigas. And I'm like, I would have never imagined that I would legally get maddened in wigas. So it's hilarious. Wow. I would have, yeah, I would have never expected you to say that. Okay, wedding number one, Vegas was, was wig is. And then middle of the year, we guys came back to England and we had a much bigger like, like a wedding reception kind of a thing in England. But Aaron's mom was not able to make it to the legal wedding. And Aaron is like very close to his mom. So he did not want to do a lot of things at the legal wedding and almost like save it for his mom to witness it as well, which I think was such a beautiful thought. So we never exchanged the, we never, we exchanged the rings, but we chose not to wear our rings after the legal wedding because we want to exchange it in front of his mom. And we exchanged our louses well in front of his mom because we just, we just want to do kind of make things very official with in-hull presence, most importantly. I mean, she was a matchmaker. So, I mean, really, exactly. She has to be there to see the whole thing through. This is exactly. So, this is so special. I, as someone who like, I love, love, love my mom. I, she would, she would absolutely die to be able to be like a part of the wedding like, like, so that's, that's so special. So, when we, when we then came back to England, that is officially where we exchanged the rings. And from there on, we started wearing the rings. That is where we exchanged the wavas as well. So we had that as like the second wedding. And the third end of Kran Finali was in India last year in November, which was like spread over three days. And that was, that was more like the religious wedding. And, well, that was, that was the, that was the third and final one. And then, yeah, and then we decided we're done for the CONL. And you're like, all right, let's take a break from the weddings. That's so special. It's funny, like, people, like, players on the tour used to joke and then they were like, are you guys having a fourth now? Well, like, no, guys were done. But what I'm going to do is we're about three. That's, it's good. It's like everything was also spaced out every, every two to three months. So it was all like back to back, back to back, back to back. And it's just funny because, coming into this year, Aaron's system messaged me. And she said that I don't even know what to do with my year anymore because you guys are not getting married three times. She's like, I don't know what to plan my year around. I don't know what to look forward to. It's all just like a clean simple year without anything because she was there for all three. So it was, it was, it was amazing. And I don't know how you plan three weddings and your professional golfer. He's a professional golfer like, how? It's literally how you're like, I'm so glad it's done. Yeah. I mean, yeah, it was, it was definitely a lot as well because it's like our families are really widespread. So like my entire family is still in India. His family is still in England. One of his sister is in Kenya. We are in US. So it's like everybody's everywhere. And then trying to get everybody to keep coming to different places. It was, it was a lot. At least they had three options, you know. Yeah. Just try and make it one of these. Exactly. Exactly. But it was, it was amazing. Like looking back, it obviously felt like so much at that point of time because I was still trying to play tournaments. I was still managing. And obviously it was, it wouldn't have been fair to pull Aaron and do it too much because it's, it's like a year-long commitment. So and then he's being tournaments as well, traveling as well. So it didn't feel right to pull him too much into it. But I think that is where like our families came in really clutch. Like Aaron's family, extended family, my family. Everybody was just so helpful, so supportive. So they're the ones who kept going for the food tasting, cake tasting. They're the ones who did everything really because we were like, so it was, it was like a very big team effort. Yeah. You're like tasting the cake. You're like, oh, this was a great pick mom. Yeah. Awesome. On your wedding day. Exactly. We had, we hadn't tasted our wedding cake flavors or anything till the wedding day. Oh. So it was, it was very, very interesting, very interesting. Wow. That is quite the married story. Again, starting off strong with babies. I just like from the way that you guys met to get a married and biggest first, like I'm obsessed. That me too. That's amazing. But like I want to switch here super quick and ask what like life is like outside of golf. What are some things that you guys do that you put golf in the rear-view mirror and you don't even talk about it? That's a very good question. You're not doing professional golf first. Like any hobbies that you like to do to just like, uh, for, or just, I think like sometimes, I mean, we do golf all the time, but sometimes when we don't, I think we, we, we like to cook, like a nice dinner together. So then we make time to make something nice, uh, together and then have it. Some, we enjoy movies. So we, we do a lot of movie nights. Aaron is big into gaming, like with your games, God games, board games, like he's, he's big into gaming. So all these guys are into gaming. Yeah. I think that's like the one thing that always is like, like, like, the, Nick Taylor loves his Mario Kart. Like, just all these players are just obsessed with gaming. Isn't there like a call of duty group of boys that I'm pretty sure there would be. I'm pretty sure. So, um, so then we end up like having like gain night and then we order some pizza or some takeaway food and then, um, just play some FIFA together, call of duty together. Oh my god. I'm not, I'm not like super into it, but, uh, because he enjoys it so much. Yeah. I can, I can do this way. I can, I can lose for all sacrifice for you. Yeah. That's so. So very normal home routine activities. Yeah. Exactly. That's a normal. Yeah. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. Just the way you, yeah. Cause it's also that I feel like with with the amount we travel, we're, we're barely home. Yeah. And then when we're home, we just really love to like connect to the house as well. Cause then we also leave the house for like a month and a half, two months sometimes. So it's like a lot of time away from our safe space. So we, we just, we just really try and do things to create some nice memories and just like really calm down in the house instead of feeling the need of again, getting dressed up, going out to something expensive, something, I mean, we do that, but not, not like it's, it's not part of our life. Yeah. Um, yeah. All of that. Yeah. As a fellow homebody who doesn't leave my house as much as you do, um, I understand. Yes. Yes. I totally get where you're coming from. Because the whole life here, it's a nice place to reset for you guys as well. For to get back out on the road and on the course. Like, I feel like that's almost better for your guys' game as well, to be like just totally relaxed and then go back out and be able to play your best. Definitely, yeah. Definitely. Yeah, that's so true. I'm playing all the time. So I'm just recharging. Recharging. Lloyd Nezlete. No reason. But actually, I want to, speaking of you guys being home and recharging after having three iconic weddings, heading into this year, did you think this year would be as crazy and hectic as last year? Did you think it could get even more hectic and crazy? No, we didn't. No, we actually didn't think we thought it would be a nice simple year. Just regular tournaments going back at home. But I think that's also just a beauty of this game. Like, nothing. In Aaron's famous words, nothing is given. You always have to work towards it. So, I mean, the year just moved in a very different way for us, very early on. Because Aaron was struggling a little bit with his neck, with his back. We had to withdraw from a few tournaments. It took us a lot longer to get back into a routine of just playing consistent golf. Because his body wasn't holding up that well. So then things kind of weird off in a completely different way than what we had anticipated. But it's also crazy, like how quickly it's turned to again, a completely opposite direction with now him being a major winner and everything. And it's, we did not see it coming this year. There's no way we saw it coming this year. Because generally there's like a lead up where people kind of judge who's going to win or who's going to do great by their run of events. And Aaron wasn't exactly like a strong contender there because we missed a few events. We were not in the signature events. The body wasn't great. Maybe the scoring could have been a lot better than maybe where he was last year. So I mean, from the typical sense, like we did not see it coming by any means. Like we never doubted that he could do it. But we just didn't see it coming this year. And at the back end of everything that happened early this year. Yeah. And so you said you're not able to always go to all the tournaments or you kind of pick and choose. So what about the PGA Championship? Was it just because it was a major that you were like, I'm definitely going to this one? Or did it just happen to be? Or I think I was more like picking and choosing early on in the relationship. Because I was still in India. And it was like a lot. But now I go to most of them. Yeah. I go to most of them. Maybe I miss a couple when my family is coming and visiting here. Then I kind of spend a little bit of time with them. So like I was in there at the Zurich. This year. So like maybe a couple of tournaments like that, I'd miss. If Aaron plays in Canada, I wouldn't be there in Canada because my brother's coming. So just things like that. But most of the times now that we're married enough moved to US, I'm there with him. Okay. So at what part of that weekend then? I know you said you didn't see this coming. But was there a part of the weekend where you were like, wait, maybe you're going to do this and you're going to hold on. Yeah. I want to make her trophy in the air. Okay. I think at what point? Yeah, definitely. I think the way Aaron played on the first day, on the second day, there were like, there were strong indications that he can do this. And it's also that, Aaronimink was, it was just leveling the playing field for everybody. That's why nobody was able to separate themselves. So it was not that there was one person that was like running away with the trophy, by Imagine. That was nothing like everybody. This was like the most condensed leaderboard we've seen in a very, very, very long time. Like nobody's able to separate neither on the first day, neither on the second day, neither on the third. There's no separation happening. So I mean, when I also saw the leaderboard and what it meant and what it was trying to say about the conditions of the golf course, I think that was the second part where I was like, this can happen. And if it happens, this is the best course for it to happen on. Because nobody's separating. So like, then how do you separate yourself? Like, I was asking him these questions, like kind of for him to introspect and think, how he can separate himself. And that is like a little bit of the conversation we had after the third round when he was just like, do shots of Alex. And then again, like a very condensed leaderboard still. But I think with just the way the course was set up, I think that also made me feel that it can happen this week. Yeah. Everyone was struggling out there. I mean, he was an insane tournament. And to see Aaron work his way literally to such a great position that on Sunday. And I love hearing this phenomenon behind the scenes like conversation that you guys had. Because he, the way he spoke about you after his round, I mean, it melted the world's heart. Like, he was just like, I credit, I credit her. She just gives me so much advice like on the course off the course. She just helps me so much. So I love hearing that you were you're kind of like, yeah, what can we think about here? How do we get you to pull away from the group? Like, are you do you do you see yourself as such like a big part of his game? Like he said. It's social answer that now. Now that you've asked me that, but, um, well, I think, yeah, I think in bits and pieces, there's obviously like, I just, there's always something or someone that keeps being added to the team that kind of helps you get to the next level and get to the next level. And that's just how things goes. And I think that maybe with me being also added to his life, there's like a new perspective for this game that has come. And maybe that could have been like a refreshing change for him. In the same way that it's been a refreshing change for me to have Aaron's perspective on golf, on how he sees the game, how he prepares for tournaments. It's, it's something that I would have never heard before. And maybe the same way the things that I tell him, it is something that he hasn't heard before. So I think and also like we both, it's a new perspective and it's like both of us are professional golfers. It's not like he's taking advice from, let's say, an amateur with a high handicap, because that is when it can feel like less relatable, but it can, it's very credible when both of you are at, at an equal point of your profession. Like you both are professional golfers and that's, that's like equals. No matter which tour you're on, I think every tour demands something and it doesn't discredit, discredit any tour that's under it, because it's like every tour needs something out of you which challenges you. So the challenge never stops. No matter how small the tour is or how big the tour is, that's, that's one thing that's constant on each tour, I feel. Yeah. So yeah, I think I would have just a little part to play. I think it has credited you as being better at golf than him though. I think he's literally credited you that. He's too kind. He's too sweet. He's too sweet. But I mean that conversation was like that you explained that you had kind of going into Sunday, just seemed so important and he was so locked in on Sunday. Yeah. Like I was like, oh my gosh, can we get a smile? Like I need you to feel the excitement that I'm feeling right now and I'm not even playing. I don't even know you. But when he sent that 68 foot put on all the 17th hole, I literally, because I was working the event. I was in the truck and I was just like, I, oh yeah, okay. What are we watching right now? This is quick. Just gave this little fist pump and I was just wanting him to jump up and down and see. No, I think that's that's something about Aaron. I was even saying that they do a couple of people. I think he's he's a very respectful person. And I actually remember asking him, he was playing last year. He was playing in Abu Dhabi. And he was in that playoff against Tommy Fleetwood. And he he sunk like a nice a nice part to win that tournament. And it's a Rolex World Series event as well. So like a big tournament, big now in the field. And all he gave was like the smallest fist bump that you almost have to like really squeeze your eyes and be like, where is that fist bump exactly is that a fist bump. And it was it was and I asked him, I'm like, is it? Why wasn't there something more like did you not feel that because it was it was one of your biggest wins at that point of time Like until last year with such a strong field He's like he comes is it's he's like babe, you know, I just I just didn't want to be disrespectful towards Tommy Because he's like he's worth just as hard and I don't want to like shove this win in his face and be like come on I won like I beat you like he didn't want to do that But obviously if we put in love I'm just out of I know such a good person and that is that is what he thinks that is what he thinks That is why there was like no major celebration on the 18th either because there are still two groups that are left A hundred that are finishing and there are these were also the leaders of the day before So he wouldn't he was not jumping around or throwing first bombs and everything although like it was I Think his name was already written on the trophy when he finished so that all those things really already happened So it's it's quite official right, but it's it's I just out of respect He wouldn't he wouldn't jump around or throw fist bombs or shout or he wouldn't do any of those things You would you wouldn't see him do any of that So it's that's that's just I didn't feel like that's just how he thinks Yeah, that's just how he thinks and how he operates and he doesn't want to change it and I don't see any reason for him to change I built Yeah, I honestly I cast and I talked about it to in our episode. We were just like he The amount of golfers who spoke after the round about him and how amazing Aaron is and his character just shows like like you were saying all of this like it just proves how honorable and humble and Just yeah, like cast was saying he's just the his characters and just incredible and it speaks for itself I mean yeah from start to finish like his like using the iron covers and The two gloves and just like his stories about like when he was super young like we obviously geeked out when he won and Did a super deep dive into everything Aaron rise so that we could talk about But it's just like everything I was actually I was actually listening to a little bit of that yesterday And you're in the room and I think you guys you guys kept saying that Like the look in his eyes a worship What is he? His wife and it was like cracking at that He was just laughing so hard. Oh my god Because I was I was listening it in the room yesterday last night. I'm like, let me just see what the build up is and It's like all the seats nice. We need to know a little bit as well before I get into a podcast and that's what I was doing and he was just cracking up so hard Oh my god stop watching you know No, but it is true. I mean you guys were because like you said that we're still two groups behind him So there was so much time like way more screen time for you and Aaron than like a typical win because it's like usually the last group And then they get their hug and then they do the interview and they we go off air But you guys had two whole groups to play so it was just like the camera kept going back to you And I think the golf world loved it because it was all over social media after obviously we loved it I'm like trying to work actively in the truck for the tournament, but I'm like only just watching the cameras that's following you I'm like okay, let's go back to that. They're so cute But no such a special moment and I'm glad that I'm glad that Aaron heard our words about how amazing he is Yeah, yeah, it's it's been it's been phenomenal honestly Well, we're both so incredibly happy for the two of you and Thank you. Just want to get into like you and your professional career as well because I think Like you said both of you guys being professional golfers when you guys speak to each other about golf and about like the round and everything to make each other better It's not like you're speaking to an amateur. You're literally you've won eight times in India You're on the ladies European like this is you have such a substantial career like how has your career been yeah, like we just want to hear we don't get to talk a lot of Golf like from this perspective, so we're so excited. Yeah Well, I think So even even for me like I kind of caught into this sport accidentally It was my brother who picked up the sport first and Purely again by coincidence like we were just on like family vacations in Singapore He goes into like a golfing store Just randomly starts hitting golf balls there and seems to be like a little bit of a natural because he's making contact and he would have been probably seven years of age Then he was after my dad's life to bring him a golf said he's like I want to play I want to play and I really want to play And then that's I go God. There's no way like I now really have to get him a golf said So then dad caught him the clubs. He started playing side enjoying the sport I was playing a little bit of tennis at that time And then my parents thought it would be nice for both of us to be in the same sport so we can share it together with each other So I kind of shifted to golf as well and well that's that's pretty much outside for me I was I was 10 years when I started playing and my brother was eight so Again, it's it's been over like 17 17 years since I've been playing as well And I've been a professional for Nine years now, so I don't professional pretty pretty young at 18 And had a good good amateur career. I was number one in the country as an amateur represented the country at the World Championship as well as an amateur and Then I turned professional finished number one in India in 2017 and 2019 I think I was I was one of probably I think the youngest Number one in the country at because I would have been I would have been I think 19 when I got to number one in India So then I was doing it 19 and it wasn't this I'm let me just say that can I just like really this is incredible Yeah, maybe I don't want it out That's incredible Keep going to hear like everything Yeah, well pretty much from there on then played a Little bit on the ladies European tour and I had some good finishes Multiple top 10s on the European tour and then Obviously then COVID hit which kind of threw everybody off the moment and there was no golf that was happening things changed quite drastically For everybody and then yeah, well, I think then then Aaron came into my life as well Eventually so that changed a lot of things as well But that's that's pretty much been like my my journey with the game and just how things have moved for me from my profession front Yeah, well, you're sounds like you're so successful. Do you you're gonna continue playing or Like professional golf or it's are we are we just things so like I'm still I'm still a professional in India And I do intend on playing whenever I go back home Okay, it's funny that I was I was actually supposed to play like a qualifier for a tournament this week It's so there's there's a tour in America. It's quite popular. It's called Anika wap t and it's it's a tour by Anika sorenson So it's it's quite quite proper quite credible So I was gonna play a tournament on on that tour it was working out perfectly because it was it was like 30 minutes away from TBC Craig ranch and Colonial and we are intention was to play both the tournaments before the PGA championship happened And well then that happened and then everything again changed Oh my god, and then We we decided to withdraw from the tournaments and they're still that entire bus of having just one of major In our lives within our families. So there's just so much then again going on and I'm like oh god I think I have to withdraw again Well, it's nicer use of flexibility to do that. This is a very good year to yeah Absolutely, absolutely But okay, so I'm still actively playing so we love that. Yeah, yes. Yeah. Yeah, so I do I do still kind of going Pretty much every day whenever we're back home. I go in practice with Aaron at the golf course I traveled with my own golf set so The week the week of the PGA because I was expecting to play a tournament. I Found a golf course which was seven minutes away and I would kind of go in practice there Monday through Wednesday, so I would drop off Aaron have breakfast with him go and do my practice Aaron would go play Come back pick him up So like we had that in dire routine Which is still like something we do when we're on the road like I travel with my clubs. I play I try and find a golf course around. So still try and be like very much in touch with the game. And in the off season when I go back home, there's still like a lot of tournaments on the Indian tour. It's called the Women's Golf Association of India, WGI. And there's still like a lot of tournaments that Artur has in India at that point of time, like August, September, October, November. There's a lot going on. So I try and kind of catch up with the second half of the year over there. So it's like a nice mix of just life and then professional. Because we're also like newly married. We just celebrated our one year of legal anniversary. So it's all like still. And now he's like, I'll meet you when I was well. And that's just-- So can all of it. So can all of it. Yeah. This is just intense. So TVD, you're just figuring it all. Yeah. You're just rolling with the punches. Exactly. Yeah. Just rolling with how life is moving really. But yeah, I think it's very fortunate. Yeah. It's very fortunate. Yeah. Yeah. I think so. But it's been amazing. It's a beautiful journey as well for Aaron and me to share together. And I think we both believe strongly in collective growth. Like, he doesn't see my success any different than his. And I don't see his success any different than mine. Like, we work as a-- Just as a one unit. So I don't feel that if I'm not playing at ornament, I'm compromising my career. Because I also realize that I'm probably building something a lot better for our family, which is the two of us. So I think-- and he thinks the same way as well. Because in India, there's quite a big tournament now on the DP world that happens. It's called the DP World Championship. And it's literally the week after the women's Indian Open. But he would still rather just carry for me. Like, that's what he did last year as well. Like, he just carry for me. Obviously, he has to mispractice. And then he's not prepared to play next week. But that's also like his way of saying that I would do the same thing for you. So I think just when you kind of live your life with seeing each other's success as your very own and give each other the credit and the understanding for your own success as well, there's no need to feel competitive. There's no need to feel my career. His career has to be separated from one another. Because you almost feel like one person when you're out there. And I think that's also such a beautiful journey to share in my opinion. And then it has been so far for me as well. Yeah. Yeah. That it like why am I emotional? Literally. Oh, that's incredible. And honestly, as you were speaking even earlier in this interview, I could, it just you saying this, I could feel that as you were speaking. Because you, I think, didn't even know you were saying like, we us together. Like you just kept using those words. And it just proves. Like it just shows that that is how you guys are in your relationship. Like it is a we, you guys are a team. It is. I think it's, yeah, it's a big part in the way we converse as well. Because I remember after he won the PGA, there were a couple of times where I'm like, how does it feel? You're, you were a major winner now. He's like, nope. He's like, we are a major winner now. So it's almost like it's, it's just the way we talk to each other the way we speak with each other. It's, it's, it's, there's never a you and an I, but there's always like a very strong feeling of just we. And it's, it's amazing. See, we stand 10 toes on what we said in our, yeah, Aaron, we're talking about it. We're shitting over you. We're shitting. This is what we're talking about. Yes, we're not making this up. This is like goals. It is. It is who are listening to this goals. This is what you should be looking for. But I think that was just so beautiful. And it translates up in the three. Yes. Seriously though. It just translates across every, every platform on TV screens, on social media, like we can, you, everyone can just feel your guys' love and support with one another. Even like Sydney was saying, like, you are so humble when you talk about yourself, but you like light up when you're talking about him. So it's like, let's just have that dynamic where you support each other so well. And it's so refreshing to see. And we're so lucky that we got to see a little bit of it. I feel so lucky. You know, little secrets. But we do have to ask one last question before we let you go. Actually too. One, did you guys get Chipotle after the PJ Championship? We have to know. We did? Yeah. Okay. So it was, it was like crazy after the tournament because we were there at the golf course to the midnight. Oh. We left it like about 12, 30 a.m. because of the level of engagement that we had. And then we only slept at like 4 a.m. in the morning. It was intense. But then on the Monday of the tournament, after the tournament, we went and got food at Chipotle. So we did do that. I'm glad that you got your Chipotle. I have a bit of evidence. Wait. Okay. You have to send it to us because we need to see it. I love it. That's so funny. I love that. It really was like top one of our top questions. Did they actually go get the Chipotle after the tournament? Yeah, of course. I mean, I don't want to hold me to that. No doubt. If I tell him that we're going to Chipotle, he's not forgetting that. It's like, don't worry. Yeah, we are. That's a yes right away. That's amazing. Awesome. Awesome. Last thing to say too, with all this, like just for our listeners, with this intense happening after he literally won the PGA Championship, this is how amazing of people you both are, especially you here. And I'm always walking with him. I almost always walking all 18 with him. And it's funny because he finishes his round. He comes, he sits down. And he's like, you know, I hit the shot on the first. And it's like I have to pretend I didn't see it. So I'm like, oh really? I'm like, what was the yardage? I'm like, what did you end up? Be while you have like a rangefinder out there. You like, you know exactly what yardage he lived. What club he probably hid, what the shot did, what the ball did. I have all the info. But I have to have to behave like I didn't see it. I'm like, oh really? Did you miss that part? I'm like, wow, like how long was it? But it's like when he was good enough. I bet. And I'm like, ah, that is amazing. One of the best British secrets, yeah, I think. Yeah, seriously. I can just imagine every dinner for you guys. It's like you just be like, oh no, how was golf? I don't like what did it go? Did you play today? Wait, that's amazing. That's such a good British. It does go a little bit better. You just know exactly where to stand so we can't see you. Yeah, well, I know that. (laughing) - And we loved it. So yeah, just a great conversation. And we were just so grateful to have her on. And so this week on tour though, we are looking ahead to the memorial tournament presented by Workday. This is another iconic event on tour. Guess who's the defending champion? - Oh my God, I have no idea. Who could it be? - Oh my gosh. - Scottie Schuffler. (laughing) - Can you guess it's Scottie. What's new? - Scottie Schuffler. He won the 2025 Memorial Tournament at Murphill Village Golf Club up in Ohio. - Dojo, dojo, hi-o. - Yeah. - That's the one where they do the milkshakes, right? - Yes. - Mm-hmm. - Yep. - Love to see the milkshakes out there. I love when we see all the social posts of like the players making their own milkshakes. I don't know why I love that, but. Really makes them relatable. - Yeah, exactly. Seeing them drink a milkshake. (laughing) - I love it. - No, but this is, you know, a long standing tournament, lots of tradition here. So it's always a good one. And I don't know. Are we gonna, is Scottie playing these defending, right? - Yeah. - Yeah. - He should be playing. - Is he gonna take this one home or? - Ooh, well. - I think it's time. We did the math last week. We showed the stats. - Yeah. - We did the-- - We showed the timeline. - Yep. - Let's go, Scottie. - I know, it's about time. - It's your time. - Yeah. So honestly, though, this is actually very, very random. And I wanted to mention it earlier in the episode, but you know, who is also a golfer whose crossed my desk is Dan Brown. Oh my God, how are we about to wrap up this episode and not talk about Dan Brown? - He, we commented on, 'cause Dan Brown, funny enough, has done so many little, like, pieces with the tour where he's gone into, and he's an English man. And he went and, like, went in eight far-pages. - New Orleans, he's like eating all the food. - And he just, like, does these features-- - I wonder how they do it. - Is it like a sign up? And he's like, me, pick me. - What I do it, like, pick me. But yeah, he went, obviously, to in Fort Worth to the rodeo, a barbecue. I just watched the feature, and I'm like, this, how have I never heard of Dan Brown? And why am I now his number one fan? So we commented that. And he responded being, like, we said, is Dan Brown our new favorite golfer, and he literally commented back and was like, yes, he is. So, this is officially a Dan Brown podcast. - This is a tour of this day and age PJ Tor, 'cause he smoked cigarettes on the course. - Oh. Have you ever noticed that? - We know I didn't. - Yeah, your boy lights it up. - Oh, he's my boy now. - When he's walking from the tea to the green. I'm telling you, he does. - That's so funny. Wait, yeah, so this is now the Dan Brown fan podcast. Yeah, we're not just per- - A couple of weeks ago, when we were talking about getting drinks with Seewoo, add Dan to the mix. - Yep. - We would get happy hour with Seewoo Kim and Dan Brown, Sydney.
