[MUSIC] What's up, everybody? Welcome to IJ Game Scoop, I'm your host, Damon Hatfield. Joining me this week are Sam Claiborne. >> I rarely get to say this, but happy Friday, everybody. >> Happy Friday, everybody, and Nick Lemone. >> I'm back, baby. >> We are recording on Friday, early Friday morning, and Justin, just he just said, look, I can't scoop on a Friday. >> We worked with them all week. >> He's got work to do, like this is work. >> This is work. >> Justin. >> We're putting in the work right now, and we've got a great show for this week. We've got lots of fun listener mails this week. What are people asking about? People are asking about, people are following up on something that Nick said recently. >> A few, dodged a fall in this week. >> And I think we're going to have the ruling on Espionage Gates, also. >> Oh, man, let's not bring that one up again. >> Espionage. >> I love the response on that. Okay, well, as long as you have something. >> We totally would have got it if we knew it was an Espionage game. >> I still can't even remember if it was. >> You know, it's CSI or it was prison break. >> It was prison break, exactly. >> But first, we now know when we're going to get our next look at Grand Theft Auto 6. We know when GTA 6 is going to kick off sort of the home stretch leading up to its release in November. And you're going to be able to catch your next look at GTA 6 if you are a Netflix subscriber. So when is it going? This is August 27th, Thursday, August 27th. Netflix has the six hour exclusive on the deep dive into GTA 6. >> I remember you need to sign up for Netflix now so they send you the disc to watch this on time. >> Yeah, and I wonder if you sign up for the premium tier, the old trick tier. Do you get to watch this in 4K? And if you don't, you're locked to like 1080 or 720. Like, well, an ad role in the middle of this ad. If you have the ad tier support version of Netflix. >> You know, no joke in this era of physical media. It'd be so funny for a game to go so in on physical media that they put out a DVD, mail or first. And then you get a demo disc, right? And then you get the actual game, that's a good way to waste some money. >> It is interesting. I mean, just to think of, if you just think of like the trajectory of Netflix and what it is today, then they just sort of like juggernaut that it is and then Rockstar and GTA, kind of GTA, just being the biggest thing ever, biggest entertainment release ever. It has to go really big so it goes with the biggest streaming platform. It's just interesting. >> Yeah, that's what you, I mean, it's like, could they have chosen IMAX, you know, like they want big audience, but they wanted to feel special and big. I mean, it's very Rockstar to do this. I think that it's interesting that it's like, what is it like that you, even if you don't have Netflix, you're going to be able to see this trailer eventually. >> Yeah, it's only an Netflix release is on YouTube. >> Yeah, I mean, that's really interesting. I mean, I think that it's going to make a lot of people just angry because they don't have Netflix. And maybe they can get a free subscription between them. >> Except, I think most people do have Netflix, you know, I think so. >> The biggest subscription. >> And we'll have commercials so you're watching a commercial with commercials, which is, of course, the criticism of the whole YouTube channel. >> This is going to be extremely difficult for IGM because none of us actually have a Netflix subscription, so we all have to draw straws and see who has to pay for a subscription in order to watch this trailer. >> Yeah, well, I mean, I can't wait to see the Saints for our trailer on Hulu. >> No, it's going to be on 2B. >> Yeah, 2B. I mean, I saw like a meme generated of it, but like, are we going to see a Zelda direct inside Peacock or Paramount or whatever? Like, you know, everyone is going to silo into their respective multimedia conglomerates. >> Nintendo would rather create their own streaming service with only the two Arya movies on it than ever go that way, right? >> It's called Nintendo Today Sam. I don't know if you have it downloaded on your phones, but I do. >> Yeah, well then, they did have a Pikmin, Pixar-style short, right? >> Yeah, I was very cute. >> Can you, I can't wait to see more of this game that's not just this people rolling in bed. >> It's going to be great. >> Dude, I mean, I'm ready for it, man. >> We'll be good. >> I'm like, based on, based on like Red Dead Redemption, like GTA 5, I'm kind of soft on, but like, if GTA 6 is derived from RDR2's DNA, like that would make me very, like just the idea of hopefully they implement some sort of the like contextual stuff that was in RDR2. That's what I'm really hoping that they add to this game. >> I mean, the story quality of RDR2 with the aesthetics of Vice City. >> Like, am I going to have to be rummaging around a glove box looking for ammo, you know, in the middle of a police shootout? Like, that'd be kind of cool. >> Yeah. Nick, are you going to Gamescom in Germany? >> I am going to Gamescom in Germany. >> All right, so we will probably all watch this in the same room together. >> Yeah, it's a little bit awkward to give you the scoop nation a little bit of a look behind the scenes. This is a little bit awkward for IGN because this arises at the time when we're just all in Germany for Gamescom on German time. So I think this airs at like 9 p.m., when, you know, airs on Netflix at 12 noon Pacific in the US. And I think that's like 9 p.m. in Germany. And then when it goes wide on YouTube, I think it's like 3 a.m. in the morning for us. >> Yeah, and it's not just what we want to watch the trailer. >> Like, oh, you guys can stay up 30 minutes to watch a trailer with your Colches. Now, it's that we have to actually be journalists and cover the hack out of the biggest game in the world. And it starts with all of our journalists overnight in Germany. So, you know, it's just, we're having fun planning for this. Like, this is a behind the scenes scene that we're having a team out. >> Yeah, we do have people there to let it home. It's just figuring out how to make this work. >> I mean, I'm just genuinely sad that I'm not going to be able to chat about it like moment line now. And as I said, we'll probably all be watching this together. So, we'll have our own private scoop, or maybe we can, we'll all be in our hotel lobby with our Colches 9 p.m. in Clone Germany watching this. >> All right, you heard it here first, everyone. We're using Damon's Netflix subscription for this. >> That's the thing, what wouldn't I ask you to figure out how to sign in? Give us some weird, you know, you can sign your app. >> We're going to have the VPN into the US, the US internet. That's why the disc makes so much more sense. >> Yeah, although I guess I have to give Netflix our forwarding address so I can send the disc to Germany. >> That's right, that's right. >> But also, like, what is, I'm so curious what that six hour exclusivity windows were into whom. >> And what there must have been a back and forth. Like, that wasn't the first time window that they landed on, right? Like, there must have been, like, can we do eight hours? Can we do 12 hours, back and forth, and nope, six hours? Netflix is like, oh wait, we can't afford an eight hour window. I'm sure they can afford it. I'm just joking, but. >> You think they'll be like the theater, shaky cam videos having a first? >> I mean, Netflix.review.1080p.xxmkv. >> So, I love it. >> Netflix pays to have this relatively short window of exclusivity, six hours. But why? What does Netflix get out of it? I don't think people, I don't think it's going to drive subscriptions. I don't think anyone's going to say, I have to subscribe. The Netflix now to watch this GT6 deep dive. I can't wait six hours to watch it on YouTube. >> It just gets so much out of it. It's like this like brand content alignment thing of just making Netflix be the coolest streamer which they, you know, I don't need because they have a lot of competition right now. And then I think it does probably get, you know, if it gets them 25 subscriptions and it'll get more than that, then it's worth it for them. >> I think it's about, it makes, it positions Netflix as a pop culture destination, you know, they're partnering on the most anticipated entertainment launch in history. That sends them a big signal that Netflix is where major media events happen and perhaps most importantly, it validates Netflix games. >> Exactly. And maybe someday you'll be able to play GT6 on Netflix but they have not announced that. >> I mean, you can play the GT several GTA games on Netflix already. >> Mm-hm. >> You can play the, I believe the remaster, right? The remaster trilogy or something like that? >> Yeah, I think so. I think that's right. >> But you know, millions of existing users, they set reminders, which generates engagement, you know, of an opens up their app to set a reminder and then, oh, they noticed some games show or movie that they want to watch, it just sort of like creates this swirling pool of engagement, right? >> If you do, I mean, it just can't happen because it would hurt their game sales to the point that it would be pointless, but what a crazy thing would be for this to come out, even within a year of launch on Netflix. >> Yeah. >> It just can't though, right? >> PS5, Xbox and Netflix. >> Netflix. >> Netflix. >> But they got the trailer. >> They're angling for when they started talking about getting trailer. >> I don't know. It's interesting times. >> I don't know. Yeah, we could, let's stop the Netflix, maybe we can get a special episode of Game Scoop on Netflix. >> Live Scoop on Netflix, you heard it here first. >> But only for six hours, they can probably only afford one hour of Netflix. >> Yes, there you go. >> Game Scoop. >> And I refuse to be in the same room as at least two members of Scoop. I can only handle one at a time. >> Well, you and I are the only two that live here in LA where Netflix is based. That's interesting. Game time, big, big game trailers debuting on Netflix. Not mad about it.
It's just something that hasn't happened before. (upbeat music) - Let's check in with listeners. - Hey, hey, listeners. - Listeners, remember you always reach us at the email address,
[email protected], just like Jamie did, who says hello from an unusually sunny Ireland scoop group. Long time listener, first time emailer, a few weeks ago, Nick mentioned that he was back playing Final Fantasy VI, and that it was like comfort food for him. Do we remember this, Nick? - It's true. - Yes, I do recall. - I think he switched to Splatoon and never went back. That's my prediction. - No, no, no, I'm still playing. I'm still chipping away. I'm in the world of ruin. - Wow, really? - I'm fantasy. - How many ammo weapons have you seen? - I've already killed that, my weapon. - The dog was, I had never played it, but I'd been hankering for a good pixel JRPG, so I picked up the pixel remaster. I finished this game in about two weeks, and as a dad of two, as you are also, I think, Damon, that was pretty impressive for me. The real joybringer was the boosts up to four X experience, Gill, et cetera. They allowed me to play through the game in a way that stood in my limited time and busy life, and at no time that it seemed to ruin the experience. Anytime I got frustrated, I either turned and counters off and progressed in my pace, or simply went on an experience grind for an hour or so, so I could progress the game, relatively OP. Oh, and even when you use boost, you still get all the steam achievements. Why do you think more games don't do this? I think even from an accessibility perspective, these additions help make the game more accessible to more players, a spin-off benefit, is it might even be a way to help the industry get more players through more games? Seems like a win-win. Mainly, I wanted to thank Nick for the recommendation, and I would love to know if this group crew have any other recommendations for games that are dad-friendly like this. Well, it's particularly well-suited to JRPGs, right? And there aren't a lot of those games today. Yeah, and revisiting. This is my favorite topic. Okay. I started IGN as my first role was I was our Cheats Editor, Cheat Codes Editor. And we would get a giant inbox full of cheat codes submitted to us each week. - Nice. - And then I'd go through and make sure which ones were real and which ones were. A lot of fake ones, I've talked about this in the show. Most of them at that time were CMASTER Chief Naked. It's Lara Croft. That's what Chief Naked did. Don't know why. - Little did they know? They just had to wait 20 years to see his butt. - Yeah, that's right. So, and then there was a bunch of fake codes and a bunch of real codes. All the fake is the Seeming Codes are always for WWF games on the news. But they're real. There's just so many things to unlock. So, ever since then, I've loved the idea of just letting people sandbox your game, break it. That's what Game Genie did. That's what Cheat Codes did, especially on the NES because you've got NES Nintendo Power. You get your Cheat Codes, they were secret. Like, you didn't know what they were until you found out somewhere. And so, I love the idea of these toggle menus of being able to turn on cheats in your game. That's, that is 90% of what makes the writers and clear right there, it's accessible. It makes old games accessible and not like the normal way we were saying accessibility. But in the way that, like, some of those games are just really hard to commit a bunch of time to it or visit. Just like the person saying, like, it's really fun to be able to skip through random battles and final fantasy and just read all the dialogue. Like, that's totally a valid way to play an RPG. By the way, you used to be able to do stuff like that way to give G. So, let me get to my final point here, though, which is, I think Cheat Codes are even more fun than that. And when they're hidden and they're found over time, I think they're really cool. And I don't know why we lost our way on that. I don't know why developers got scared about, you know, having their games broke. Because you remember, even I think, I think, you started in a, that was wise a cheat, as you said, or then you started this time in which games like, what's the alien game destroy all humans, so what it's called? Yeah. Just that open world era was all copying GTA 3, which all had cheat codes, right? And so every game, like, kind of had like a batch of cheat codes with it that lets you do big-head mode and do extra blood and just like stupid stuff, right? And then let alone invincibility. So you, and then when you use this again, invincibility mod or like a high jump mod, you can start breaking the boundaries of the game and just mess with 3D spaces, like, I love that stuff. I love how it's discovered over time and I miss that. So I just, this is another call to bring that back. Next best thing that would mean of the Hollywood did this, these games do it, you can just toggle on all the cheats and weird stuff that you want. Like, there's weird stuff in me and also. That's my 10 talk. Yeah, and it feels like a little bit of a cop out in terms of other recommendations because there's, the good news is there's five other pixel remasters that are well worth your time, except, except maybe three. I actually don't really care much for your original Final Fantasy III. Yeah, I didn't introduce the job system, right? Yeah, I even like to, which I know is a little bit controversial, but apart from that, the original seven remastered, like the PlayStation version of seven has speed toggles. It has a lot of bespoke stuff where you can always have your limit break active if you don't want to do max level. I do changing that stuff in seven just by area made it really helpful to revisit. I mean, I can always have a problem with just like load time for each battle, you know? And so, just conserving that by making the game a little bit tighter and then doing a little bit of the speed fighting, I think it's either speed fighting. I might have an auto-battler. Is that what you just said? It has like a four-time speed toggle that you can do. And that helps tremendously. I do like, it's part of my own beliefs. It's part of my own beliefs. You know, you know, you're stronger than the other party. And just like, you can just be like, just win this for me. Give me my potion, let me move on, but I'll never use it. That's one. I do like, though, like we see a lot of JRPGs that may not have the quality of life toggles of like, you know, no encounters or infinite XP or whatever. But I do see stuff like Clare of Scare, Expedition 33, where it's like, your characters are auto-healed after a battle. And I'm like, oh, that's a nice little like quality of life that kind of makes it hard to go back to other JRPGs where you have to expend resources in order to heal all of your dudes, where it's like, oh, I don't have to worry about that. So stuff like that, and then there's like stuff like persona or metaphor, where it's just streamlining the kind of, it's difficult, sure, but I think like the menu navigation is effortless and cool. So there's different flavors. But I would say all of the Final Fantasy remasters are for you if that's what you're looking for. - Yeah, I think Square Enix is maybe really the only one doing this sort of thing, but they're all the pixel remasters. And then they do it in their Dragon Quest, HD 2D games too, Dragon Quest 1 and 2. Even rebirth and remake have retroactively added an update where you can do max level and like your characters basically invulnerable to everything. So if you just want to experience the story of rebirth ahead of the upcoming release of Revelation, then you can do that pretty easily. - You know, emulators have always had this, right? They've always had a way to kind of patch in some game changes and sometimes it's more organized than others. But what emulators really brought to the forefront was save states and save states are achieved and they make cheats for action games or the accessibility of action games like Zelda 2, much better. Like I know it's not the original experience, but you will be able to beat Zelda 2 or you know, Metroid and Game Boy. Like you can beat these games with save states. It's no problem. And I think that's really good. - You gain nothing from dying 40 times in the motorcycle chase in battle toads. It's better to just save state it and that's how I did it. - Yeah, you can break games in a really fun way, but you have to remind yourself too that like we're not all talking about cheating cheetos here. Like Fallout allows that just by default. That's just fun. - Yeah, just the way it works. - So it's like, yes, you know, it's just interesting that save spamming was, you know, introduced that way. - Yeah. - Save scumming as they like to call it. I think there was a funny stat too that Larry and release that there's, they calculated the amount of times people save state like the hours. And it was something like 14,000 hours or something like that. And they just said, are you guys okay? - Yeah. - Yeah, that's great. - They release yearly stats on follows get three, right? And this crazy stuff like. - It's so cool. - The percentage of people that are playing on a vertical, some sort of vertical screen is like, oh, that's too. - Do you remember in, you were playing Final Fantasy 6, you said? - Yeah. - So one of the big deal things that I always went after when I played that game when I was a kid is that one of the, you can pick up shoes that just make you, I think you float the shoes. And I can, yeah, float shoes. - And it makes you like skip some of the itemy encounters and maybe less regions or something. And then I maybe move faster. And it's like exactly what you're talking about. It's like a quality of life thing. You're like, boy, by mid game, you really need to pick up these things. It's very fun. (upbeat music) All right, this is Masio. I hope I'm pronouncing that correctly. Say, despite being a massive fan for several years, I actually discovered recently I was over 30 episodes behind as I've just been listening too slowly. Which had happened due to being a parent, being a teacher, plus my side project of playing and making YouTube videos for a little hobby channel I have, but usually not mentioned too often as it's so niche, even my niche standards. However, imagine my surprise, when on my ketchup binge, I hear Nick joke on episode 842. During some 20 questions, Juggle, he said, "There'll be some sicko out there "playing all the old football manager games." Hell yeah. Not just playing Nick, but recording and publishing three episodes a week while doing so. And not just the old football management games, but a whole host of other football and soccer management titles and arcade footy nonsense from 1992 onwards. Anyway, thanks for the unintentional shout out. - All right, well. - Whoa, are you transplanting all of your like your franchises from game to game like I think they actually
have some sort of backwards compatibility and some of the more moderate ones, but whoa. I wish. Good for you. I'm glad you found your niche. He didn't provide us this. The name of his YouTube channel, or anything, but I'd be happy to promote that. Yeah, he's playing through all the football manager games and doing videos about them on his YouTube channel. And some arcade footy, which I believe means like, just I don't even know what that means. I guess I guess Megamann soccer. Megamann soccer, but not an arcade game, but yeah. I wish. Okay, Sam, I know you've been away in Kansas this week. Are you still playing Halo? Yeah, I mean, I really can't put it down. I'm loving it. And I can't remember how much I talked about it on here, but that's it though. So I won't go back into it. But I hope people got the chance to play it. And like I know our staff is divided on it because all week I've been hearing from people like it just doesn't look like Halo and it's just not my thing. I'm just not just getting out of the purple ship. What's better after that? That's my big new advice. Okay. And Nick, you're playing Splatoon Raiders? Yeah, I'm in the, I'm grinding the end game and Splatoon Raiders. Once you roll credits, you unlock an extra thing at the end of the game that Logan tells me is the true ending of the game. But achieving that true ending seems pretty brutal for an and like very unintended like in terms of how difficult it is in the end game state of Splatoon Raiders. Sometimes you can't even see your character on screen. There's so much stuff happening. It's it's pretty bonkers. Do you like this game? I love it. I did not expect to like it and like all Comic Con week Logan's like, dude, just just buy it. You're going to have a good time. I was like, all right, all right. And then in the span of two days, I rolled credits on it. And yeah, now I'm just kind of in the state where I'm grinding gear. And I very rarely do stuff like that in games unless it truly grabs me. It's just, it's a perfect like bite size game. You know, if you want, if you only got 10 minutes, you can knock out like four missions in the span of 10 minutes. And it's very satisfying. Failure feels fine because it's like two minute long missions. And so you never feel like you lose all that much whenever you fail. And there's just always something happening. And one of the, one of the things that really surprised me about this game is, you know, there's three different playstyles that Splatoon Raiders introduced. There's a power tank, a speed tank, and a gadget tank. And it's all different types of gadgets and different playstyles essentially. And usually I kind of gravitate towards power. But just for the sake of leveling, I tried the other ones. And they're all fun. And they're all viable. And speed tank is actually the best because you get to move very fast. But yeah, just a rare game where I just think every aspect of it is so strong. And yeah, it takes the best part of Splatoon 3, which is the salmon run and condense it into a single player experience. We give it a nine. It's pretty high score. Yeah, yeah, I agree with that nine. You know, we occasionally play who am I on this show usually at our live events. And my kids like to play who am I too? And I was playing it with Kingo last night and Kingo had picked for me. There's a character in Splatoon Raiders called Shiver, correct? Yeah, he picked Shiver for me. I didn't get it. I'm not super familiar with the characters. Is it a big salmon? I don't know. Is it a person or a see what is it? Yeah, Shiver is one of the mascots. And yeah, while you're you can actually build out like a home base and one of the unlocks that you can pay to upgrade as an arcade cabinet. And there's like six different retro style games that you can play. And you act there's actually a cosmetic that's locked behind getting an A rank in all of the games. Oh my god. I need to get this now. Nintendo designed new arcade games. Yeah, it's pretty they're pretty neat. They're very clever. Wow. Wow. Sam, three of them are just variations of radar scopes. Yeah. Speaking of beating a game to unlock more game, I finished finished Disguy 5 after 60 hours. Wow, you really got to last 60 hours into Disguy 5. I finished the story, which means I've finished about 5% of the game. There's so much to do in the post game. Here's the thing about the Disguy series though. There's, you know, five is one of my favorite games of all time. I think it's I think it's the best Disguy game. They've made two since then. Did you know this? They've made Disguy 6 and 7, which I ignored completely because for some reason, one through five, they use sprites, 2D sprites for the characters. And then in 6 and 7, they switch to 3D models in the battlefield, and it lacks all the charm of the 2D sprites for me. Did your boycott work? Are they going back to sprites? I have not heard of that. Back to sprites, no. But I enjoyed 5 so much and I wanted more, even though there is all this post game stuff. I wanted more of just the main sort of like story grind. And I'd hurt I'd actually heard good things about 7 that fans actually like 7. So I gave it a shot. And I'm enjoying it. I'm actually liking it. Okay. Is that going to be your game's calm game? Your playing game? It might be my, yeah, I mean, yeah, I'm starting it now. So it's probably going to be my game's calm game. It's true that I would if if I were given the choice, I'd rather have 2D sprites, but they still use the same great to be art in like your character portraits during conversations and menus and all that stuff. So you still get to see that they still do all this crazy over the top special moves. It's just with 3D, you know, polygonal models now. But it's the setting is like ancient feudal Japan, which I like and the music's great and still has, you know, cute characters and funny dialogue and all that. So I've resigned myself to accepting the 3D models and just I get to play and a new, a disguised game that's new to me. Who owns these now is Stagger Atlas? Well, it's Nipponichi is like the developer and I think they're the publisher too. Wow, okay. I think NIS, right? Is that what Nipponichi stands for? Okay. Nipponichi software America publishes them. So nothing on the horizon in the Dyskaya series. This is the latest. Well, they just put out a new game called Dyskaya Mayhem, which is a dynasty warrior's like. But it's all, yeah, I don't know game. I hear it's just fine. Whatever. Not a tournament strategy game. You know, I've only ever played the original Dyskaya and because I do love tactical strategy games like this, like tactics, RPGs, like Final Fantasy tactics. And I really liked it. But then when I discovered that you can go into your items and those are their own dungeons, I was like, I think this is too much for you. Like, is it? Do I need to do that in order to get far in the game or can I just experience the story and I'm good to go? Because I want to give this another shot. Well, you're gonna, you're just playing through it. If you were just playing through the story missions, you're gonna hit brick walls, or it's just gonna be really tough. But if you got you, that's fine. But like, finding the side stuff that I don't need to go into my basic sword at the beginning of the game and to send down the level 100, right? Okay, cool. You can replay any previous story mission. You could grind that way if you want. Do you recommend the first Dyskaya? Which one should I start with? If I had to choose the best one, plus all of the previous playable characters are all in there as just free DLC and Dyskaya 5 complete. So I would just go with that. Gotcha. But 3D self-shading looked pretty good when we were just looking out there. It doesn't look as style. It's just not the same as the 2D. Sure. Yeah, I'll be the first to understand that, that complete. I ran into that situation with Tactics Ogre Reborn. I think that is a better version of the game, just in terms of quality of life improvements. But man, I really miss like, if you compare like the character portraits with the original, like, Super Famicom ones, it just is like, man, these these had style back in the day. Like, they look so good. You know, we got away from Final Fantasy, or sorry, Final Fantasy, Castlevania being sprite-based. And we've come so far around to the other side that I barely even expected to look that way anymore, even though there are games that are Final Fantasy, sorry, Castlevania likes that are still pixelated. But the New Castlevania, we're just ignoring it now. I mean, I don't know. It used to be a big downside that it looks cool. The New Castlevania is made by people who made the pixel of Castlevania game. It drives me crazy. That's what that's out. Is that in September or October? New Castlevania. I want to say October James. Die, monster. What is a man? A miserable little pile of secrets. But enough talk. How about you? Okay, extra curricular activities. We all saw Spider-Man, correct? Loved it. Yes. We all liked it. Yeah. Yeah, I liked it quite a bit. I liked it so much. Karato on our video team just told me it's his favorite superhero movie of all time. Yeah, he says his favorite overall MCU movie, I think. I'm not going to go that far. Although, if I had a hard think about it, I don't know what I would pick. I used to like the winter soldier really because that's my favorite. That's right. That's right. I don't know if they're good anymore. The thing that really grabbed me about this was what I was kind of expecting it to going in. And that's that it felt more like Maya era of comic books than anything because it had characters from all over Marl. Finally, showing up for very little reason other than they're in New York City. And just, you know, Spider-Man is just around them and interacting with them. And the one that is kind of spoiler is, you know, Punisher. Just drive around doing Punisher stuff. It's really funny. Like it's just like that's what that Spider-Man felt like back then. And they're not good matches for each other's styles, right? And when they're in the same comic together, it's just funny. And that's how it worked in this movie. It felt great. Yeah, this isn't a criticism. You know, when I saw that from the trailer when Punisher was in it, I was like, it's weird to have Punisher in a PG-13 movie, especially coming after what was this short. One last kill, yeah, that's like so crazy violent. - I feel like Spider-Man would have a problem with how Punisher handles. - Yeah, so that's how it works in the comics. Punisher kills a bunch of drug dealers, and then him and Spider-Man have a little caper about stopping Obgoblan, you know, it's crazy. - Yeah, but here, he's played for comic relief. - Yep. - But it also works. - It totally works. - Yeah, I mean, I don't know how they go back to the hardcore Punisher style after this. - I don't see it. - Burnthall, Holland, and Zendaya are having just a wild summer in terms of what they're like. - Dude, they're bank, that bank they're making has got to be nuts. - Yeah, people can imagine. - It's going on over for Zendaya and, I guess, the verdicts out on whether or not Spider-Man might show up in Doomsday. - I did it say, 'cause I had to pee so bad at the 45 minute mark that as soon as the credits hit, I booked it out of the theater, 'cause I know that there's a post-credits thing that it shows, you know, Spider-Man will return in Doomsday. - No, I didn't say that, but let's talk about the post-credits thing. Let's get into some spoilers. I think everyone has probably already seen this because this is the biggest box office of all time. - Yeah, people don't like apparently us bringing up the numbers, but it's true. Statistically, you might have seen this movie by now. - Yeah. - So the post-credits. - That's actually me. I've seen the movie 900 million times. - Well, we'll find about five minutes talking about the spoilers. - Yeah, okay. - So Nick, you know how Ned has like a Spider-Man tracker app? - Right. - But they show just the app, and they're like locating him, and then they show that, oh, Spider-Man's out in space. - Yeah, he's not on Earth. I looked up the scene afterwards. I was like, okay, what did I miss? - But Spider-Man's been in space before, 'cause he fought Thanos on a planet somewhere. - Yeah, he's been in space with it, so. - That's all happening. - But in the comments, when he's out in space, that's when he encounters the symbiote. - That's why it's confusing. - Oh wait, I don't think you can show this. - No, I don't think you can show this. - I don't think you can. (laughing) - Oh, that was a great day of scoop moment. A real scoop, too. - A real scoop, too. - I love it. - I love the tenacity, Joe. - That was great. - Great. - We love the speed of the b-roll. - Yeah, but no, but I think you bring up an interesting point, which is like, is this hinting at Doomsday? Is this hinting at, you know, what is it called? Secret war? - Secret wars. - Secret wars. - Secret wars? - Or is it just hinting at spider-man fighting a symbiote in space? It could be all those things, you know? But it's probably just that he's like, he's like Thor had to pick him up on the way to fight Doomsday. - All right, Dr. Doom. Someone can correct me. I think in the actual Secret Wars comic, he was in space, and that's when he encountered the symbiote. - That's right. He's fighting on another planet. - Not Doomsday, but Secret Wars next year, bring the symbiote back to Earth, and then finally they can get Venom in a spider-man movie. - Yeah, well, let's see Spider-man. - I mean, that's, that's gonna be the movie that makes a billion dollars for Marvel. Like, it's like one opening weekend. If they get, if they get MCU Spidey with Venom in one movie, it's like, all right, that's gonna make a trillion dollars, man. - If they get the dance scene, right? They have to get that dance scene, right? - That was the dance scene. - Which is crazy, like, it's like in Hollywood, it isn't all, aren't all things possible through money? - Mm-hmm. - Like, how have they not gotten Venom and Spider-man together since Spider-man 3? - Yeah, it's so crazy. - I know, it's funny. - Like, Marvel and Sony have to do that, like, Ryu and Captain America, like, handshake from the Marvel versus Capcom, like, splash screen. Like, they say, what if we set aside our differences to make one trillion dollars? - Yeah. - All right, just the sweds. - We really want Madame Webb. That's what we have before Venom. Let's take a break there with Madame Webb. - So then the other spoilery thing that is worth bringing up is that even though there was an X-Men crossover, I don't think it paid off in any way that's gonna help with X-Men or Doomsday for now, 'cause it just seemed confusing, like, I kept on expecting, oh, I mean, it just, they just basically had, like, a Mad Lib Psychic character. You didn't need that, right? Like, it didn't need to be Jean Grey. Jean Grey, as far as I know, she's not famous for having a sister that she had to save from the Spider-Man cops. None of that really checked out for me, but it would have been cool if, like, at the end, it was like, you know, all the sudden Professor X is realizing there's like two only two mutants on Earth, and she's one of them, like, something like that would have been a really cool tease of the X-Men universe, right? - Yeah, I also think, I think they flat out said, before it was released, that Sadie Singh is not Jean Grey. - Yeah, I love that shit. - They just lied. Like, and I get it, like, you want to, like, hold things back, but tiptoe around it. Don't just lie. - Yeah, I mean, maybe they're out. Is that, like, Jean Grey is actually, what is your name, Funka Jansson, respect that? - Yeah, that's actually Jean Grey. This is, this is Jean Grey, you know, Earth. - Three, one, three, or whatever. - Sure, it's gonna be. - It's interesting that, you know, I, going into this movie, I thought, well, obviously, MJ and Ned are going to remember Peter Parker, but that's not really out, like, MJ doesn't, Ned does throw a handshake, which I think is a little too easy. - Yeah, it's very sweet. Like, it is, like, sweet, and I also like Tom Holland's four years of just being Spider-Man, is a really good plot device to get them, like, him exhausted, but also the city's cleaned up. Like, that's not cool. - Yeah, that is a premise. And then I really, and then obviously, that's the video game I want to play, right? And then, I meant, like, Hulk was a little bit strange in this movie, too, but, again, I like how they're all in it, though. I think it's kind of a sad update for Bruce Banner. - Yeah, yeah, not for like, he was smart Hulk, and then he's been, he's got his inhibitor, and he's like, he's a professor, and he's working hard, but now, nope, he's just, he goes rage, rage is out his Hulk again, and he's all sad and worried that he hurt everyone, and then that's it. He doesn't get any sort of, like, happy wrap up. - Yeah, yeah, that's a good point. Yeah, when they're dragging him away, he's like, well, did I turn you, buddy? - Yeah, it's like, I mean, it's more sad, yeah. - It's kind of looking like Grandpa Ruffalo, so it's like, how many times, more times, he's gonna play the Hulk? - Yeah, yeah, interesting. - Didn't he have a son? There's something like that in one of these-- - Yes, there's a backyard barbecue scene with him and the kid at the end of, maybe She-Hulk series. - Gotcha. - She-Hulk. - I mean, are we brushing that aside? Like, what's actually canon now in MCU? I'm like, so kind of removed from it. I'll watch the latest Marvel nowadays, but they've gotta be nuts. - And then now that we're moving away from the spoilers, I did think that it was cool that Tom Holland looks like his age. He looks like he kind of aged with Spider-Man the right way, and he looks young, but he looks like he's interacting with kids who just graduated college, and I love all that, it's like the best part of the shows, movies Harry Potter, when they just curl up, and they go up the same age as the people around. I just think that's cool, they did that well. Sometimes it's un-very terribly, and it was unwell here. - I thought, as soon as they introduced Gene Gray, then I thought for sure, she would make MJ and Ned remember. - Yes. - No, but they don't do that either. - And where is, so what's the in-state for Gene Gray? I guess she's just in a park. - He's on a bus heading upstate, probably, maybe towards some mansion. - But that's the thing, like if there was any implication that X-Men were involved in this universe, it would have to be that they're being injected from another universe, right? 'Cause that's what they've been showing. It's like beast is like on a satellite at the end of the marbles, and like, you know, the Doke-Dumsey trailers are showing all this stuff. I don't know. It's just confusing to me. - Yeah, I mean, they had it. - Very strange, what? - Quick aside in regards to Gene's power. If you want more of Gene's power and how she kind of like teleports from person to person, really weird aside, my boss here at IGN, his name's Gabe. He goes, "You got to watch this Denzel '90s flick called Fallen. It's about a New York detective who's chasing a serial killer and the serial killer is revealed to be a demon that hops from body to body based on touch." And it is literally the same exact thing. I was like, "Oh my gosh, whoever the screenwriter must have just watched Fallen because this is a one-to-one of how this power works." It's kind of neat. So if you're looking for more of that kind of thing, and it's a pretty solid like seven rip off, what we're checking out on Netflix. - That's great. That's a really good shout-to. There's some really, I mean, since in the middle of a Spider-Man movie, you get a little bit numb, but there's some really good shots like that, like there was a top-down neighborhood, full of people where that hopping was happening. You can see everybody's choreographed acting it, and then in the end, credit scroll, they show the people as a big block of names that were jumping. - I think they call them the inhabited. - Yeah, and it really stands for people, maybe a hundred people. - Yeah, which I'm assuming they're like dancers, right? - Yeah, exactly. And then I think that you could probably rewind and pause and see a lot more happening in this movie because when you see that inhabited real, it's like, "Whoa, that's more than I feel like I saw." - Yeah, I mean, think of the choreography of like, how would the next person know to be inhabited? How they figured that out? I wanna watch some behind the scenes stuff on that. - Definitely smart stuff. Like these are some smart filmmakers and the whole movie just felt stupid and clever and they're right, they're right polls, you know? - His final fight with the hand is great. That's great fight scene. - Yeah. - And then just seeing the Punisher go against the Hulk was so awesome, like-- - Yeah. - Yeah. - Yeah, it's like one of those things that I just can't believe we're seeing this in a big movie with the Punisher against the Hulk. It's awesome. - Yeah. - All right, that's Spider-Man. Brand new day, we liked that a lot. I also saw minions and monsters, it was fine. - What is that?
That's the new it's the new minions movie which I never seen any other minions movie. I think like most A people I find them pretty obnoxious But I had heard that this one is actually good and it has monsters in it like monsters and Kaiju so yeah I want to see it, but it was just fine. Okay. It was just it's not. I did said you watch it so lower with your Now you got to explain your kids what cthulhu is like what is cthulhu dad? It's a little bit of a misnomer. It's called minions of monsters, but really you know the minions are they're wandering the earth looking for an evil master Because you know the Sam the minions come from the despicable me movies, right? There's there's the scientists they help out right? Yeah, who is Steve Carell? Okay, grew But in this one this is before that they're wandering the lands looking for a new master and they end up in Hollywood in the 1920s I think and then they just get sucked into the movie industry and they just make movies and then one of them has a passion to make The his own movie and he wants to make a monster movie and it's like halfway through they introduce monsters Okay a little bit of a misnomer. It looks like a little bit of a love letter to cinema. I mean kind of I mean there's some good movie gags in there as well. This is this is a direct. Obviously parody right here. Um the Outch that looks really painful I watched 15 minutes of three different movies on a plane And that's because Southwest needs to sort out their shit They don't have screens on their planes. You're supposed to use your phone. I'm fine with that for like united when that happens But Southwest just doesn't have the internet infrastructure to do this So I'll watch some of masters of the universe. Okay. It's pretty good. Pretty good. I want to watch more of it I watch two two and have stars out of five according to Nick. Yeah. Yeah Um, I'll finish that up though. And then uh, did you review it Nick? No, I just said on my letter box. Yeah. Okay. I'm pretty pretty. I'm pretty diligent about my letter I'll watch a little bit of mild ass. This was a pretty funny start to it Which is like mild ass. Yeah, that's like a body swap movie. It's like a woman meets her Boulder but it's an Aubrey Plaza vehicle where it's like she she kind of like Time leaps, but it's like drug related where she talks to her like her young self. It's funny. It's funny Then one more time it's called mild ass. Yeah. Yeah That's cool. I think I think the pause that you're adding between my M-I-L-L-N-S is really adding a lot of M-I-L-D. Oh, mild. No. My. Oh, my. Oh, my. My god. It's old space. It. That's okay. It's a great conversation. Yeah. Um And then I watch all of Pretty Woman, which I've never seen before which my wife apparently knew every single line of and it was great Wow, so okay. Okay. That's interesting. Pretty woman holds up today for someone who's never seen it before. I thought it was pretty funny. Yeah He's just like Richard gear. Richard. Who? Oh, man. Like talk about a person who kind of disappeared right after the uh Yeah, the universal rumors that were completely founty and funny in Chicago and 2004 maybe Yeah, yeah, Julia Roberts. That was a long time ago, David. I know that was just last year. And Resident Evil 4 is coming out next year Um House of the Dragon finale is on Sunday Yeah, I like I like the last episode So spoilers for the last episode of House of the Dragon. Wait, wait, Nick, have you seen it? Yeah, I assume Sam has seen it. Yeah, I love I'm loving this show. I love zombie sunfire Going back and agon just crazily shouting as his zombie sunfire burns the army. That was great. That was great Yeah, so is that was that dragon just just sleeping it off? I think so Okay, that's fine. Yeah, just regenerating, but not every half of its face. Yeah, I have for the space sky Everything's magic. I like that. Yeah. Um, are you guys watching the new season of sugar? No, is it I mean, hey kid, we it's killing. Okay. Yeah, like it's absolutely fantastic I saw like it had the boat. I was like, I don't know if this will make sense for me to watch because it had a big twist right now Yeah, I was already but no, they work in the twist into a new noir season and a really cool way And I was like well the reason I started watching this because it had like this incredible Metascores around like everybody's like loving it. Okay, and so um, it's just it's just midseason right now So it's like people haven't done their seat their free cap reviews, but it is so good and Colin Farrell is so good It's it's been a killer season so okay. I will watch them. I have I'm on there. I can start sugar. I'm on it. Oh, so you haven't seen season one Nick Okay, it's oh my god. Yeah, you yeah, it's very good. You will you will like it a scoop gem I'm on record saying Colin Farrell might be our best actor working today. Yeah, that's what that's what my wife was saying too Just like so impressive all the time. This is the same person as a penguin. Yes. Yeah and Not we're not gonna dwell on this too much, but I'm on book five of dungeon crawler curl nice I'm like pages away from the end of the first book and confused because I'm like there's no way any of this is getting wrapped up Yeah, you just have to go right into book two. Yeah, we're just going to book two I do I do appreciate now he's I'm on level six Which this isn't a spoiler they talk about this lot level six is the hunting grounds. Oh yeah, it's where it's going People other like tourists are in the dungeon now that are hunting the crawlers But I appreciate that it's like level three where it's not a complicated level. It's just kind of a it's a jungle Like level where book three is this really complicated train system book four is this At a bubble wrap world at or every bubble is his own like four quadrant area It's really complicated now. We're just back to just a regular jungle with some towns. I appreciate Oh, well, maybe I'll get to play the pen this weekend because I mean they might have it at california extreme. Oh We also have an email from Greg and London who says long time listener first time writing huge fan of the pod you guys do a great job Saying that you have ruined my life recently after hearing your reference a few episodes back to dungeon crawler Karl I thought I'd give it a listen and add the audio book series to my listening long list I have now listened to over a hundred hours of the series just in july I'm about to start book seven. It has become totally all-consuming. Oh, that's both a strong recommendation and a strong warning to everyone out there in scoop nation I love that. It is that good. Well, thanks for propagating that name. I think damon you for the person that brought that up I know I know Justin was on to it too. Just imagine a year or two ago and then I just got into it earlier this year And I mean, I got all my friends that know anything about games reading it and now there's kind of an impromptu book club happening around me in my life Which is always a it's like it's just like thought I see your spider-man. It's like Pop culture is like so unified right now. It's kind of weird. I also just love the story You know, it's the author just he self-published it during the pandemic and then it yes slowly built and took off Just like I love the story of the director of obsession first feature film made for less than a million dollars I love that stuff and I can't confirm it's just like every airport I've been to and I've been to a lot Recently it's just right there in their core book store. It's like good good good for the author like that. But that's all the money Another email from Ryan from the Toronto area says like Damon and many others recently I've jumped into dungeon crawler Carl in the last episode. I was shocked to hear Damon was already on book four Here I am and still on book one Again, I'm on book five now we have a toddler and I get a bit of gaming in each night for an hour or two Once the babies down. I try to read a couple chapters in bed each night But find that end up doing less or none at all because I'm tired. So my question for Damon in the group is how do you guys balance gaming and reading? What's the typical day or week look like for those two hobbies amongst all your other responsibilities as much as I want to read I find I still prioritize gaming So I'm curious if you all have these same internal battles. I do well Ryan. I like I'm listening to the audiobook So it's a little bit different, but I have a long commute. I have an hour long commute each way to the hygiene office That's perfect. I'm listening for two hours a day 10 hours a week in my car Exercise time is really good for listening to I listen to podcasts and books then But I I can't fall asleep unless I'm reading so like I usually it helps read to read something boring unfortunately But that's just like part of my routine. So give video games before bed like absolutely wake me up Like so I just can't I used to be able to just play games until 3 a.m. and pass out But like have to go to bed because I have to wake up early and so I have a routine and so I go through books that way and then If I'm really into a book, unfortunately, it just makes me stably I typically read in bed. I try to do no screen time before bed as much as possible Try to get away from using my phone before I fall asleep. So I just Use a like Kindle basically and just kind of lay in bed and read a chapter and then that's I try to limit myself to one chapter that way. It's like a nice clean stop point But yeah, I used to have to commute way further So I do more audio books back in the day, but now it's a little bit harder for me. Mm-hmm. And then of vacation I love having a book exactly like Dungeon color color carl because yeah I do like like when you're jet lagged especially like it's really helpful to read instead of doing anything else So you can try to get back on your schedule without a bunch of light in your eyes and stuff So that's been nice and then reading on the beach or like I would just spent the past week at oh yeah Visiting my family and there's a nice porch, you know in the countryside with a beautiful view and just reading on that is much better than being on my phone And our listening to music or anything just it's a very unplugged state to be look My wife is a voracious reader. She's always reading. She blazes through books and she looks down on me for listening to an audiobook Uh, yeah, I totally get that it's not the same thing I like I don't think that I'm reading a book by listening to an audiobook However, like I've said before I think Dungeon color carl is a special case scenario the the narrator Jeff Hayles is Incredible it's its own experience listening to those books. Well you you know that the Hatfields have been
and our book encourages because Kim influenced what my wife is reading right now, which is what the series called? - I don't know, it's a fantasy series that's definitely gonna be turned into a HBO series. - That's all I hear about, because that came directly from y'all, then there was this thing where she was like, well, I don't know whether to go like, she's listening to the audio book of a current one and reading a prequel. That's where this is what's happening right now. So, I hear a lot about it, but I try to be like, well, if I'm gonna read these, I don't wanna know too much, but then I'm like, I'm not. (upbeat music) - Okay, before we jump into 20 questions, do we need to address Svina's gate? - Oh, God. Well, I thought it was interesting because I think in your brain, you were like, this is an anti-terrorism game or it's kind of a military conflicty game. - I mean, they're a key for Sutherland is ahead of an anti-terrorism unit. In 24, 24 was the game, for the game. - So, he's always trying to stop a bomb from going off. He's always taking into, I know, disguising himself as another person and sneaking into another country, he's not doing that. - But then the counter point is, they literally are just working in an office with a screen spying on people. Then the whole game takes place in that office. - Yeah, yeah, sure. Well, so here's two things I would say. - But you were thinking of the bomb type of espionage where it's like, he's not a spy. - I wasn't thinking of it. You were trying to determine if it was a bomb game. So even if I had said, yes, I don't think it would have helped you. I don't think it would have helped you get to 24. - Us knowing the ant, us having a yes to espionage would not have helped us in that situation. - What I would have preferred is that we ask the question, is this a vampire game? And then you would have said kind of then we would have got to key for Sutherland. - I thought you were gonna say, what we would have preferred is if the game was by on a commando. - Always prefer that. - Wait, instead of espionage, I should have asked, has anyone in this game ever played big boss from Metal Gear Solid? - Totally, totally. - Was that only in the set up to five? - Only in ground zeroes and phantom pain, yeah. - He's in phantom pain ulcerative. - Okay, okay. The other thing is that 24 was a 2000s era game. I think it ran the bulk of that decade. If you went back and read everything that was written about 24, all the reviews and all the articles, how many times do you think the word espionage would have popped up? - I don't know, maybe when they were viewing this game, they brought up tactical apps, espionage action as the genre. - It's the third person shooter. (laughing) - You didn't get there. I don't think you knew it was a licensed game, but I don't remember now. If you had known it was a team show of the 2000s, then it would have been lost, prison break, or? - Lost came up, but that didn't help us before. You think that licenses are gonna help us, or I think that, but they don't, because I didn't know there was a four dog's game. That's, there shouldn't be. It's like a Bernstein Bears paradox for me. I'm like, what's that game out? - A real quick Google search of 24 of the game from GameStop. It's little splash page and Google says, step into the thrilling world of espionage action. - Oh my God, okay, all right, the game. (laughing) - I submit. - This is great. You guys win. - Okay. - The espionageers win. And that brings us to this week's video game, 20 questions, who comes from Cacheer, says, I have a fantastic suggestion for video game, 20 questions. I'm going to be a freshman at NYU this year, majoring in game design. And my submission, redacted, is the game. I dedicate my passion for being a game designer too. I mean, huge fan of the podcast. I hope that you all will discuss a game. I help create in the future. And with that, let the question begin. - Any clues there? - This game is the game. He dedicates his passion for being a game designer too. - Okay. All right, I gotta burn one question. Is this an espionage and/or military game? - No. - No, and I know it's not. - Well, definitive, no. - What if his passion for game design came from how bad this game was? Like, I need to correct the universe. I need to write things, right? So, if that was the case, it might be Bonanza. - Is this game from the '70s, '80s or '90s? - No. - Okay. - That was just a joke. I laughed at it. That's why we don't need emails. That was good. That was good. That one got me. - Okay, so it's from the 2000s or from the distant future? - And not an espionage or military game. That's super helpful. And then at the same time, not helpful at all based on our previous experience. So, let's do, is this on, is this, did this appear on a PlayStation system in any manner? - Yes. - Was that PlayStation system originally, did the game originally appear on an even numbered PlayStation system? - Yes. - Oh, two or four, probably a four, if they're just gonna be a freshman in NYU, it's important to remember that I'm now getting to a point where I was like, okay, the PS4 might actually be people's first console nowadays. - And that's a case of this one. - Might be people's paper console too. - Let's see, is this game made in Japan? - No, that's five. - A lot of first-party PlayStation four titles are Europe, right? - Is this just horizon? - Even if it's the start of it or in the middle of it, is this just part of a series? - No. - Wow, that's unusual. - Not a series. - Is this a PS2 game? - No. - Okay, PS4, stand-alone game. I'm thinking, and maybe it's on other systems, it could have been on other systems. I'm thinking it's an indie. - Have we asked if it's exclusive to PS4? - No. - Go for it. - Is this a multi-platform game? - It is today. - Okay. - Okay, so it was ported. - Nice platform exclusive at the time. Now it's around it. - Maybe it's like Ghost of Sushima, or like that era of PC PS4, 'cause there's a lot of those ports. - Wait, so, and that would still be fine because he said not in Japan, right? So we want a Western developer like Ghost. - So God of War, Ghost of Sushima. Do we know if it's published by Sony? - No, we do not. - We need to know that, so. - Yeah, was it published by Sony? - Yes. - Okay, I think it's gotta be one of these PS4 games, then. Like one of those ported to Steam games. So let's see. - Did this get a port to PC? - Yes. - That's 10. - There's not that many games that are like that. There's Horizon. - Was this, right? There's Last of Us. - Horizon, Ghost of Sushima, God of War, Last of Us. And not a part of a series, so it's standalone. - How weird is it that all those are Western developers games too, like Sony's stock of games and so. - I wonder if it's what's days gone. That's the only one that I know got ported to PC that doesn't have a sequel. That's the only one that stands out to me as like not having a sequel. - It's gone. Yeah, it has to be not part of a series, yeah. - That's it. What else is there? - Does this game feature Freakers, Damon? - No. (laughing) - Okay, so it's not that he's gone. What, okay, what is it? - Maybe a lot. - Yeah, I mean-- - Happy Horizon, can't be Ghost. - Returnal? - Returnal, 'cause it's sequel, isn't really a sequel, it's not really a series. - Yeah. - That's good. And you're really coming way up through this fast. I need more coffee. - Is this, is this a-- - Well, it's a roguelike, right? - Yeah, that one's a roguelike, but I'm just trying to think of anything else that could be in this bucket, but that's the only one that stands out to me. - Yeah, I mean, is it rogui? - Is it rogui? - No. - No. - No? - Oh man. - I just don't know. - Are we replacing roguelike with rogui? - Yeah, rogui, 'cause I don't know when to use light. - Rogue light or light, yeah. - It's smart, you're first, this is the new Metroidvania term. It's gonna be the all-erage. - Yeah, exactly. Metroidy is a better term too. Okay, we're missing something really obvious here, but it can't be like a sly or something like that. Oh, what about dreams? - I don't think dreams is on PC, though. - I don't think so either, but it's gonna be something that, well, yeah, the PC usually indicates it was successful, right? - Yeah, there's only a handful of them too. - That's what I thought about, what about Spider-Man? - It's definitely part of the series. - Yeah, it's part of the series. Let's see, maybe we can distill it down to like game type. Maybe heavenly sword or something like that, that was like, I don't think of that as a border. - No PC port on heaven, my sword. - Definitely not. - No. - Okay. - Shoot. - Do you play as a human in this game? - No. - No, okay. Is it like an astrobot type? Nack has never been ported as far as I know. - That is a sequel. I mean, I know. - Not a human. please.
four. So you have animals in humans, robots. Should we eliminate two of those or one of those categories? Yeah, go for it. Well, how many categories do you want to get rid of? We can say humanoid shaped. Well, I don't know if that counts for robots. Are you an animal in this game? No, are you a robot? Yes, that's 15. Shoot. Okay, we play as a robot. Oh, what's it? Detroit become human? It's gotta be. Is it Sony published that? Yeah, Sony did. What? Really? Does this game feature narrative alternate choices by based on button props and QTEs? Yes, you've defined the game. That's the same name. Is this game Detroit become human? Yes, it is. The game that cashier dedicates his passion for being a game designer to you. What is what are the studio like, what are they doing? Yeah, do they exist? They're making that star wars. Star Wars eclipse. Yeah, eclipse. Okay, so this is the heavy rain people, right? Yeah, they also apparently made a game as a service like two years ago that just got cancelled. Like that just got shut, but I'd never even know about that. So it's crazy. Interesting. Okay, okay. So in the go prophecy, heavy rain, beyond two souls, Detroit become human and now star wars eclipse. Was Indigo prophecy like a TV show tie-in one? No, no, it's just something. What am I thinking? It's called Xbox game. It's called Fahrenheit in Europe. Yeah, Fahrenheit. So foreign over there, they're like, what does it even mean? It has an extra zero sometimes. It's crazy. Yeah, I like this game. I think it's pretty solid. I think it's definitely one of the best games at this studio made. I think I prefer this over the heavy rain. I think it's their most successful game. Okay. It's crazy. Just looking 10, 15 years back, how sometimes games look like they were just made by a slightly less funded developer now. Like these graphical changes. Yeah, they don't look that much worse, right? Yeah, yeah, like they're fish and voice facial animations. Yeah, this is 2018 PS4 and then it came to PC the next the year later. I didn't know that. Did you know that, Nick, that this is on PC? Yeah, yeah. A year later. Oh, yeah, that seems weird. Well, you did a good job guessing it because I wouldn't have done that. That seems like it would have been a big deal at the time. Yeah, that's why it's like kind of blowing my mind. Like I didn't think that it was that feels like a horizon zero dawn era thing. Right. Do that five years after the game. What happens if you fail pouring the water during the QTE? I think this game is a little bit goofy in terms of some of its subject matter. But apart from that, I really do appreciate how it does. How it handles the like different paths for choice in the game. Because once you like roll credits on the game or you get an ending, it shows you different paths that you can take and shows you like the first step in getting into that pad. So it's like, Oh, wait, how do I get over there? And then it kind of gives you a little nudge in the right direction, which I really appreciate. And there's some really cool like capture stuff. Plus you got what's his name? Mr. Krabs in this as one of the cops. What's his name? Mr. Mr. Krabs voice actor from SpongeBob. What is Mr. Krabs? Clancy Brown. There you go. Clancy Brown. Well, nicely job. Yeah, we got one. It's been a while. Thank you for the suggestion, cashier. I hope you have a great year at NYU coming up next. Good luck. Yeah, seriously. Have great semester. That's all the scoops that we have for you this week. Thank you to Sam and Nick. Thank you to Jobbert working behind the scenes to make this episode possible. My name is Damon, this is iJane GameSoup and we're out. How long do you think it's gonna take me to figure out a game per per year for us? It didn't take me that long. All right, I'll look myself up. Although I think it's interesting. Well, something that we'll discover there are down years where you're like, yeah, I guess it's this game. Yeah, yeah. I mean, I was already talking to my mom a little bit actually about like, do you remember me being around games at this year, this year? You know, like certain things, like this Pac-Man, I was like, I'm pretty sure I played that when I was three. And she was like, yeah, was that this person's house and you were three. Spider-Man scores biggest first week in box office history. Crazy. Crazy. I don't think it's still going to help Doomsday though. Yeah, I mean, Helen, I were talking about this Spider-Man, a Batman, or a mortal. Everything else is like, that's fine. I mean, Spider-Man had those amazing years that we're not amazing, right? They can screw that. That's true. Andrew Garfield. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, maybe those did well at the box office and I don't remember being that way, but they felt a lot like the bad Batman movies in the 90s to me. The first one did well enough to get a sequel. Right. Yeah, I like, I think it performed, but it, their quality varies, right? But I believe they perform in the box office, regardless. I mean, getting Avengers to be the most popular thing on the planet with the Avengers they chose is shocking, right? Because Captain America and Thor and stuff are not the popular Marvel comics of my German and wasn't before to me either. I know. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I used to complain about on a Game Scoop. I'm like, why should I care about these characters? I like the X-Men and Spider-Man litter on it, you know? And it's like it's getting us to care about them was the trick. And it's because they wrote good storylines and they got us to care about them at school. My garage is loaded with arcade machines right now from other people because we're bringing them all to California extreme tonight. Well, that's another thing I forgot to bring up. You know, at the end of the movie, they don't really wrap up damage control. Like, damage control is still there and still going to be hunting Jean Grey and now I'll probably be hunting Spider-Man. Yeah, it's interesting. She's supposed to be super powerful too and you can see by with the jumping, but like Professor X is good at finding other mutants, right? And it's like, I was really hoping they'd set up like a little thing like she's like, I can sense other people like me out there. Yeah, that'd be cool. Because we know there's one other mutant, right? It's Kamala Kamala. Right? Right. And Beast. Yeah. Well, yeah, they've hit into his bubble for that one. But literally like the weekend after this movie, they're like, by the way, we cast Emma Frost. We've cast Cyclops. So yeah, as I'm like, all right, well, that cats are back now. I didn't look at any of those actors. They're all young. So it's actually going to be like a young atmosphere. They're all young. Yeah. And Cyclops is one of them. I saw them a frost one. Correct. Yeah. Crazy. That's crazy. So Jean Grey and Cyclops are now cast. And apparently Indy Navaretti has also been in talks with Marvel too. For what? From obsession. No one knows, but she says that she would love to play Mystique. Mystique. Yeah. Good. We missed all the morning meetings. We did a good job, everybody. Success. Success. Have good weekend stuff. Yeah. Have good weekend. It's a good. Enjoy. I'll let you know if Dungeon Collar Carl is at X. Cool. Bye.
