UFC fighters, though celebrated in the cage, exhibit disturbing criminal behaviors outside of competition, revealing a darker side to their lives. Jorge Masvidal, a former UFC heavyweight champion, attacked Colby Covington in a masked drive-by, resulting in a fractured tooth and a felony charge, though he later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor. Joe Sun, whose career was marked by poor results, was connected to a 1990 kidnapping through DNA and later convicted of torture and life imprisonment, before committing a murder in prison. The story of Joe’s son, who played a minor role in *Austin Powers*, adds a bizarre layer of irony. Another case involves Red Tarzan, a psychotic MMA fighter who committed multiple armed robberies, escaped from psychiatric care, and conducted violent anti-prostitution raids in Russia before being convicted and released. Lee Murray, a skilled fighter who narrowly survived a stabbing, orchestrated a massive bank heist in the UK, was later caught on video due to a phone recording, and sentenced to prison in Morocco. Desmond Green, a fighter with a history of drunken driving, killed two elderly women in a crash and continued fighting in the UFC despite the criminal charges. Lamumba Sayers, a veteran fighter and anti-violence advocate, shot a friend of a man who killed his son during a birthday party, resulting in a second-degree murder conviction. Finally, Kane Velasquez, a two-time UFC champion, chased a man accused of assaulting his son for 11 miles, fatally shooting an innocent stepfather, and was ultimately sentenced to five years in prison. These cases illustrate how the extreme physicality and street-level backgrounds of UFC fighters often translate into violent, unpredictable, and deeply troubling real-world actions.
UFC fighters are some of the craziest, toughest, most dangerous human beings on the planet. These are people who wake up every morning and go to work getting punched in the face, and also punching people in the face. They're built different, they're trained different, and they're wired different. So what happens when they take all that outside of the cage? Well, one of them punched a fellow UFC fighter in the face outside of Miami's Steakhouse and paid about $1,000 for it. Or what about my favorite one where a two-time UFC heavyweight champion chased to truck 11 miles through San Jose with the loaded 40 caliber pistol, fired multiple rounds from it, missed the guy he was aiming for, and shot an innocent man instead. This is Crime is Fun, and today we're talking about UFC Crimes. Man, I love me some UFC. As soon as I started making videos on YouTube and getting a little bit of popularity, I made sure to find some friends in the UFC. I've been watching UFC since UFC 1 when I was just a little guy. I've trained mixed martial arts myself, and from doing the YouTube thing for a while, and podcasts and all that fun stuff online, I've become friends with some of the top fighters in the world. On the unsubscribe podcast, we've had mighty mouths, we've had Don Fry. We're good friends with Chuck LaDelle. My friends and I love UFC. And just like any group of people, people in the UFC do commit crimes also. I thought this would be a good episode because by the time this comes out, it'll be around the UFC fight happening at the White House. Let's jump right into it with a Jorge Mastival. But first, let's talk about crime being fun. Crime is not actually fun. Most of the time, don't do crime. But listen to crime, crime is fun to listen to. That's why you're here, right? Hit that subscribe button and notification bell. YouTube doesn't like me, and they've probably unsubscribed you from me already. Where was I at? Jorge Mastival holds the record for the fastest knockout in UFC history. Five seconds. Not five seconds into the round. Five seconds into the fight. He was fighting Ben Ascran, who was to his credit, elegantly elite wrestler and a genuinely difficult guy to finish. But he ate a flying knee for Mazival and was unconscious before he finished falling. It's probably the nastiest knee you've ever seen, and you've probably seen it. The referee was still moving towards them when Ascran hit the mat. The crowd didn't even have time to react properly. It was over before anyone processed that it has started. Jorge's name is Gamebred. As in bread for this game, he was born into violence in the streets of Miami and trained by necessity before he was trained by coaches. He was built into one of the most exciting fighters the UFC has ever had. I've been watching UFC for 20 years now, and he's probably one of my favorite fighters to watch. At his peak, Jorge Mastival was one of those guys where you genuinely did not know what was going to happen when he stepped into the cage. And that's a rare, invaluable quality in a fighter. You wanted to be exciting. You can't just pull guard the whole time and expect a bunch of drunk dudes to be excited. Jorge had high light real power in both hands and a chin that absorbed serious punishment and was just all around a fantastic fighter and so fun to watch. He also had kind of a complicated relationship with conflict resolution outside of sanctioned athletic competition. As we were talking about earlier, this man comes from the streets. He's not one to be disrespected and just walk away. Keep that in mind as we walk through what happened on the night of March 21st, 2022. Let me give you a little context first, Jorge, and Colby Covington used to be best friends. Rumace and training partners actually. They came up together at American top team in South Florida. Oh my god, I was actually victimized there. Oh, frickin' Chuck LaDelle took me to top team just to hang out with some of the guys there. And Tyrone Spong, who's a several time kickboxing champion, said, "Hey, let me kick you in the leg, donut." Me not wanting to push out at American top teams and, "Hey, what a great idea." Well, he did, and I couldn't walk for three days, it was great. Anyways, Jorge and Colby were good friends at American top team. These dudes were training every day. There's rumors all over the place as to why they had a falling out, but they did. The exact details are disputed, depending on who's talking, what YouTube video you watch, what interview you watch, etc. etc. By the time they were booked to fight each other, UFC 272 in March 2022, there was no pretending that this was just business. These two genuinely did not like each other anymore. In the build-up to that fight, Covington says some things about Mazaval's children on a podcast. In almost any circle or career, that's always a big no-no. You don't talk about other people's kids. I think Colby figured out that being a villain in combat sports pays better than being likeable, so he went with it. Jorge Mazaval didn't think it was a game, though. UFC 272 in March 2022, Covington beat Mazaval via unanimous decision. Covington used his wrestling and his cardio to grind Mazaval down for over five rounds and clearly win. So not only did Mazaval lose to a man he despised, he got outward doing it. 16 days later, on March 21st, Colby Covington was having dinner at a restaurant in Miami Beach, called Poppy's Steak. As Covington was leaving the restaurant, a masked man ran up to him and punched him in the face twice. Bunched him hard enough to fracture a tooth. Covington later claimed in court documents that he also sustained a brain injury and that his Rolex watch was damaged in the altercation. Well, you can guess who the masked man is that did a drive-by knockout. It was Jorge Mazaval. Jorge has got a mean punch on him. Any surprise, Covington, but to Covington's credit, he did not go down. According to an eyewitness named Adam Wise, who was there and talked to local news, Mazaval clocked him about three or four times in the face and he said what stood out right away was how he didn't even go down. Covington does have a chin on him. After the attack, Mazaval posted a video on Instagram. He called it the "Show Your Face Challenge" you said on camera. "I'm from Dade County, you talk that shit, you gotta back it up, that's how my city rolls." I got to ask the crime questions here. What's the point in wearing a mask if you're going to brag about doing the crime directly after doing the crime? And if you want to rep your city, why even wear the mask? Damn it, Jorge. Why didn't you at least videotape the whole thing from your perspective? A POV of that would have been awesome. Unfortunately, it was outside the ring, so he did get in trouble. He was arrested the next day. He was initially charged with two felonies. One count of aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm. And one count of criminal mischief. The criminal mischief charge was because of the allegedly damaged Rolex. He was looking at possibly 15 years in prison for the aggravated battery charge alone. The case dragged on for 20 months. Mazaval maintained his innocence though. His lawyers even maintained his innocence. Then on November 6, 2023, Mazaval walked into a Miami-Dade courtroom and pled guilty to misdemeanor battery. The felony charges were dropped entirely as part of his plea agreement. The sentence was "time serves." Time served, by the way, is defined in this case as the few hours. He's spent at a plea station on the day he was arrested, plus multiple court appearances over 20 months. He did have to pay court costs, which came to just under $1,000. Colby Cummington did decide to appear in court though. He released a statement saying that the guilty plea adds to his streak of consecutive losses, which again, I respect the commitment. Homey got punched in the face outside of state. Chaos broke his tooth, fucked up his Rolex, and still found a way to turn it into trash talk opportunity. Still playing the villain. Mazaval posted on Instagram "Victory Monday." Obviously, it's not a good idea to just go up and punch someone outside of a state chaos. You're probably going to get arrested, but at the same time he was talking about his kids, he kind of had it come in. A couple months later, Mazaval did retire from MMA after a loss to Gilbert Burns. Cummington ended up filing a civil lawsuit for damage and life moved on. I wanted to start it off with that little tidbit, because we're just going to get even more hardcore from here. You see, there's a little bit more to some UFC crime than punching a rival in the face. Damn it, one of my favorite movies from the late 90s was Austin Powers. What does Austin Powers have to do with the UFC? Well, we're going to talk about an MMA fighter named Joe Sun. I need you to do something for me before I start this story. I need you to calibrate your expectations for where this is going because it starts in a place that sounds like it's going to be funny, but it's not very funny, it's not a funny crime. It's pretty messed up, but it does have to do with Austin Powers. Joe Sun was a professional MMA fighter in the early days of the sport. He competed from around 94 to 2002, his career record was zero wins and four losses. Okay, so he is a pretty shit MMA fighter. He actually invented his own martial art called Joe Sando, which he described as a hybrid of Taekwondo and judo. Based on his record, Joe Sando didn't work worth the shit. Whatever Joe Sando was doing, it was not winning fights. It was doing something else, pretty freaking malicious. He is perhaps best known in MMA circles for his appearance in UFC 4, one of the originals in December of 94. He was matched against a Kimpo fighter named Keith Hackney. Now, Hackney was a guy who had already made a name for himself in UFC 3 by knocking out Emmanuel Yarborough. Emmanuel Yarborough was a 616lb sumo wrestler. Hackney was small, fast and not afraid of anything. He and Joe Sun were matched up in the tournament and what happened next became one of the most replayed moments in early UFC history. Joe Sun took Hackney down and locked in a guillotine choke for a brief moment. It actually looked like maybe Joe Sando was going to work. Hackney was in trouble. He needed to get out of that guillotine. So Hackney started punching Joe Sun in the dick over and over. Here's a critical historical note, in 1994, UFC had no rules. Royne Strax Reliegal, the Ed Buds Reliegal, you can basically do anything short of eye gouging. So Hackney just punched Joe Sun in the dick repeatedly until he released the choke and then Hackney choked him out one. Shameless plug, listen to the unsubscribe podcast with Don Frye, where he talks about the early days of UFC. It is in
Insane. As I know, Don Fry's story, my son wanted to come have dinner with us after we did the podcast, because everyone loves Don Fry. And I says to Don as he's sitting next to my son, what's some good advice that you could give a 16 year old man right here? Don Fry looks at my son and says, "Just don't be a little queer." Oh, Don. So Joe's son went 04 over his career, retired from fighting and moved into entertainment. He had some small roles in action movies throughout the mid-90s, then in '97, he got his most memorable part. He played random task in Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery. Random task was the henchman. He was big. He was silent. He was deadly. His gimmick was throwing his shoe as a weapon, which of course if you're familiar with Austin Powers, you know it's a parody of James Bond. In James Bond, they had the character odd job that threw his hat and cut things up. It was a good bit. I think it was a solid joke. Mike Myers had it going back then. That movie was a sensation, it was a huge hit, everyone loved it. Joe's son got a couple of scenes in in a moment of recommendation, and then he kind of faded back into obscurity. He wasn't really in anything after Austin Powers. By 2003, Joe's son was essentially done. He wasn't fighting anymore, he wasn't doing any movies, shit, he wasn't even getting commercials. He was the guy that was in UFC 4, got punched in the dick, a bunch, and then played a memorable character in Austin Powers. And it sounded like that was going to be his whole story. But in 2008, Joe's son got arrested for felony vandalism. It's kind of a minor thing to catch a felony for, but in the state of California, when you are charged with a felony, you have to give your DNA to the state. So they booked a man that took a DNA swab and then it went into the state database. Well, his DNA matched a sample from an unsolved case. Mind you, this is 2008, when he submitted his DNA, the cases from Christmas Eve in 1990. 18 years before. What had happened was back in 1990, a 19 year old woman was walking near her apartment in Huntington Beach, California. It was around 12.30 in the morning on Christmas Eve. She was enjoying her night when suddenly a car pulled up and two men stepped out of the vehicle. She didn't know what to think at first, but the two men grabbed her and forced her inside of the car. They started driving, she was terrified, she had no idea what was happening. The two kidnappers stopped, drug her out of the vehicle, and for several hours, they beat her pistol whipped her and gang, whipped her at gunpoint. The attackers took turns violating her and told her repeatedly that she was going to die. One of the men who was later identified as Joe's son counted the bullets and the gun out loud in front of her, making sure she understood exactly how many times she could be shot. They even penetrated her with the gun and told her to beg, they may believe that she wouldn't survive the night. Yeah, that's right, this terrible UFC fighter and pretty terrible actor was a monster. Sure, evil, well, they ended up not killing this poor young lady. They loaded her back up into a car, drove to an unknown location, pushed her out of the car naked, tied her pants around her eyes as a blindfold and told her to start walking. Before they drove away, Joe's son told her, it's Christmas, this is your lucky day. No arrests were made in 1990 and the case went cold. For 18 years, that woman knew what had happened to her and nobody was held accountable. And Joe's son got caught destroying his roommate's car, gave a DNA swab and 18 years of getting away with the end of the database match. He was convicted of torture in 2011, the raping and kidnapping charges have mostly expired under the statute of limitations. But torture had a longer window and prosecutors got him on that. He was sentenced to life in prison. It gets even crazier, like I said, this dude's evil, he's a monster. One month into his life sentence, Joe's son was at Wasco State Prison. His cellmate was a 50-year-old man named Michael Graham who was a convicted child molester. On the afternoon of October 10, 2011, 30 days into Joe's son's life sentence, guards found him standing at the door of his cell. They walked up and they said, Joe, what's going on? Well, it didn't take long for them to figure out that his cellmate, Michael Graham, the child molester, was lying on the bottom bunk unresponsive. He was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later with the calls of death being blunt force trauma. Joe beat the dude to death. With the trial, the defense argued that Graham had been the aggressor, the son had been defending himself. The jury found him guilty, the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter read the murder. He was sentenced to an additional 27 years, which didn't really matter, because he was in prison for life anyways. I guess one good thing that can come from this is a dude that touched kids is dead now. The judge at sentencing said the original rape and torture conviction was, as monstrous and despicable as anything that the court has ever seen. The prosecutor at the manslaughter sentencing called son a rapist, a torture, and now a killer. He is currently at the high desert state prison in California, and will be there forever. I gotta tell you about one of the most chaotic human beings he was ever competed in mixed martial arts. And I say that as someone who has done a fair amount of research into the MMA world, which has produced some genuinely chaotic human beings. This guy's name is, "I am going to mispronounce the hell out of this, just like the new generation of Calisco Cartel, fortunately they haven't killed me with a Flamethrower, so I'm doing something right. Alisco." This guy's name is kind of sounds like Viet your slob, that's it? His nickname was the red tarzan, I like that one. He's Russian and enormous. His life reads like his dad said, "Hey, just go fuck shit up." And by all means, he was just a chaos demon for years. We're going to call him Tarzan, because I am not going to keep trying to pronounce his name. In 2009, Tarzan completed his very first professional MMA fight. His opponent was a young Belarusian heavyweight named Andre Arlowski. You may know that name. Arlowski became the one who went on to become the UFC heavyweight champion of the world. At the time of this fight, 99, Arlowski was just making his professional debut. It was literally two guys meeting each other for the first time at the professional level. Tarzan and Arlowski. Well, old Tarzan knocked him out. He was the first fight of the future world champion, and yet he got put down. This is how Tarzan announced himself to the world of mixed martial arts. So Tarzan fought professionally for about seven years, compiling a record of 14 wins and 18 losses. He was a hard fighter and his loses were often spectacular. He wasn't defensive genius, but he always brought the fight to his opponent. He developed a reputation as someone who would walk through punishment to land the big shot, which made him simultaneously very exciting and very beatable. Somewhere around '06 or '07, things went sideways for him. In 2007, Tarzan was arrested in St. Petersburg, Russia for armed robbery. Not one armed robbery, but wait, there's more. Multiple armed robberies. Specifically, he had been robbing mobile phone stores. Multiple mobile phone shops across St. Petersburg were calling in saying this giant fucking dude with a gun came in here and stole a bunch of stuff from us. I guess phones were a liquid commodity and easy to sell the time. Maybe he just walked past the phone store one day and something clicked in his brain. I don't know, he just robbed phone stores, that was his thing. They kicked ass, lost more than he won and liked to steal phones. He was arrested, brought before the Russian courts, and what happened was the courts looked at him, and his behavior, and his statements, and his general presentation. And they said, "This dude's fucking crazy." He is legally insane. They said, "Yeah, this dude's not mentally competent to sand trial in any traditional sense." So instead of prison, they committed him to a closed psychiatric facility. Now, a reasonable person, upon being committed to a psychiatric hospital instead of prison, might recognize that this is in fact a better outcome than prison, and might behave accordingly, and might do the work to demonstrate improvement so that they can get out and keep fighting people and maybe steal more phones. Well, he was not a reasonable person, but he definitely did want to steal more phones. He spent several years in psychiatric care. Eventually, the evaluation was that he had improved enough to be transferred to a low-security psychiatric hospital. The moment he arrived at that low-security facility, he just broke through a fence. Like physically just ran through that thing, and escaped. While a fugitive from the psychiatric institution, he robbed another mobile phone shop. I guess it's he was in the crazy house for a couple of years, the iPhones had gotten slightly better. He had a type of crime that he liked, that was his crime as fun. That was his fun crime. And then he just goes a little bit more on his, he flees the country across the border from Russia and Norway. You know, the smart play here for any criminal is try to keep a low profile. You've been committing arm robberies all over Russia, you know, be quiet, have your documents ready, say as little as possible, and draw zero attention. You know, be the grey man, don't stand out. Well, Tarzan arrived at the Norwegian border, covered in neo-Nazi tattoos. He walked up to some journalists who were president at the crossing, and announced loudly that he was not a nationalist, but a racist. He claimed to the guards who were not letting him in or away at this point, that he was seeking political asylum. Well, they just sent him back to St. Petersburg. He went through the course system again, it was charged with escape, the additional robbery, and the illegal border crossing on top of the original charges. Seeing his allies crazy, but not that crazy, I guess he went to prison for real this time. Oh, but in crime as fun, fashion, this story is not over yet. He was released in 2016, and upon his release, he began conducting vigilante raids on brothels. Let me just say that one more time, upon his release from prison, after the arm robberies, for the psychiatric hospital, after the escape, after the neo-Nazi tattoos, after Norway departing him, he decided that his next project was showing up at establishments he identified as brothels, and doing whatever he felt needed to be done there. Why yes, he was scaring the hose. The Red Tarzan anti-prostitution vigilante, that was his chapter after prison. Let me explain what I mean by brothel raids. It's May 2016 around the time he just got out of prison, as middle of the night in St. Petersburg. A group of men show up at a brothel, not as customers they brought a battering ram. They go straight through the door, and the crew pours in to the brothel. The man leading the charges, former MMA fighter and diagnosed schizophrenia, Tarzan. around this time he was also calling herself the son of the ancient
Slavic God per run. I don't think the dudes run the broth over prepared for this level of opponent. But he would just crew round up everyone inside of this hoe house. Inside of the building it ended up being 10 women and one man. Tarzan and his crew made him strip naked and then march outside down to the police station. Officers were chilling doing their thing, drinking coffee, probably filing some reports. When 11 naked people just walked in, you know, being escorted by a jacked Russian dude who believes Jesus Christ was a Masad agent. Tarzan runs out the door and in the same night, he immediately tried to hit a second brothel. It turns out he had teamed up with a Russian musician named Stan Selov-Beretsky, like a D-list celebrity in St. Petersburg. They ended up launching a full, anti-vice crusade across St. Petersburg at brothels, illegal casinos, gambling rings, drug deals. His knowledge of all these locations that he stayed later on came entirely from stories he had heard in prison. He ended up doing this for like two years and in 2019, he was sentenced to three and a half years in a Russian penal colony for breaking into a brothel, beating up pimps, and the charges do say this, dragging sex workers around by the hair. He served less than a year at this penal colony and the conviction got reversed on the technicality. His statement walking out of the courtroom was glory to the revolution. And then in 2020, he's a free man could have done anything in the world. He helped a guy try to sneak into a stony own and inflatable raft, but the ores broke. The current ended up carrying him into a stony and border guards. At that point, he went back to compete in MMA. His most recent fight on record was in 2022 and he won. And that is the story of the Red Tarzan. Let's talk about Lee Murray. Alright, here we go. Get comfortable. This one takes a minute. Lee Murray was born in South London to an English mother and a Moroccan father. He grew up hard the way the lot of kids in South London in the 80s grew up. And because of this, he found fighting early. A lot of street fighting. He was involved in road rage incidents, pub brawls and general low level criminality that tends to cluster around young men and environments where those things are normalized. He was not by any stretch of the imagination on a path towards anything good, but he discovered MMA and for a brief shining window looked like the sport might save him from himself. He had a place to let all that anger out and people to beat up legally. He wasn't just good at MMA, he was pretty damn good. He was extremely smart inside of cage and powerful before he even reached the UFC. When he did start fighting professionally, he compiled an 8-2-1 record in smaller Europe and British promotions. He was on a real trajectory to be a UFC star. Along the way, he even knocked out Tito Ortiz, not in the ring on the streets. After UFC 38 in July of 2002, there was a gathering at a nightclub in London. Tito was there and at that time was the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. I'm going to get chucked on here sometime to tell you guys some Tito Ortiz stories. They didn't like each other very much. Anyways, this time, 2002 Tito was one of the most feared fighters on the planet, chuck said he's a big pussy though. By multiple accounts, including from people who were there and later confirmed, by Dana White himself on Joe Rogan, Tito got into a situation with Lee Murray outside of the nightclub and Lee Murray knocked him out on the street. Lee wasn't even in the UFC yet, he knocked the fuck out of Tito Ortiz, the heavyweight champion of the world. Dana White's commentary on this years later was he got into a street fight with Tito Ortiz, knocked him outside of a nightclub in the UK. He's a scary son of a bitch. That was Dana White describing Lee. He said he is a scary son of a bitch. Lee Murray eventually got his UFC contract and Dana White seeing him knock out Tito Ortiz on the street, probably got a little bit of due with it. And for his debut, he did what any reasonable conventional fighter would do and given the opportunity to make a first impression on the biggest stage in the sport. He showed up dressed like Hannibal Lecter, okay, that's actually pretty cool. He was wearing the mask and the full costume. He walked out into the arena as a fictional cannibalistic serial killer psychiatrist and then he went on to finish Jorge Rivera with a triangle on bar in the first round in two minutes. But his UFC career only lasted one fight. This was because he had a prior assault charge in the UK from a road rage incident which mean he couldn't get a USV set of fights state side. The UFC was only in the states at the time so they couldn't use him. He ended up signing on with a British promotion called Cage Rage and in November 2004 he fought a young Brazilian who was just starting to build a serious reputation on the European circuit. This young Brazilian was Anderson Silva. You guys probably recognize that name. He was a man who would come on to become the UFC middleweight champion. He ended up holding that belt for seven years. The longest title reign in UFC history. This is another one just like Massive All is so fun to watch. He embarrassed his opponents so through really sometimes they look like they've never trained to day in their life. Anderson Silva and his prime was the most dominant fighter the sport had ever seen. In November 2004 Silva was fighting at Cage Rage 8 for the middleweight title. This was pre UFC just so he could build his reputation to get into the UFC and he was already a monster. Lee ended up going five rounds with Silva and lost by unanimous decision. This ended up being Lee Murray's last professional fight. On September 28th 2005 Lee Murray was at the funky Buddha nightclub in Mayfair London. He was celebrating a birthday party with a British model named Lauren Pope. Thanks for growing pretty good. He's hanging out with models, drinking some booze, but apparently a fight broke out outside the club. This was not unusual in Murray's friend group. Fights tended to happen near him the way rain tends to happen near clouds. And he got involved but then he got stabbed in the heart. Not like near the heart, not in a lung, not adjacent to the heart. He got stabbed in the heart multiple times. They rushed lead to the hospital and he underwent emergency open heart surgery. He needed 30 pints of blood. If you are unfamiliar with how much blood you need in your body, 30 pints is twice the amount of blood. They essentially replaced his blood supply. They couldn't ever figure out who stabbed him, the dude ran off and was never found. Somehow Lee Murray ended up surviving. Yet you would think after he being stabbed in the heart multiple times and somehow surviving, you would rethink your life and not do what he does next. That's in five months after nearly dying outside of a club in a drunken bra, Lee Murray began planning largest cash robbery in British history. The target was the greatest cash bank in Tundbridge, Kent. This bank was by all accounts completely unremarkable. It was a dull flat roof brown building. Kind of building you drive past 100 times and never look at twice. It just sat there on a road in Kent looking like it might be a medium sized warehouse or maybe an office for a company that didn't have much of a marketing budget. Inside though on any given night there were tens of millions of pounds of cash. This particular depot processed in sword currency for the Bank of England for major financial institutions and for supermarkets banks all sorts of businesses. It was one of the central nodes in the physical cash distribution network of the United Kingdom. Well Lee Murray had figured out what was inside of it. Bro, after being a professional MMA fighter, nearly beating Anderson Silva, knocking this shit out of Tito Ortiz being stabbed in the heart multiple times, pulled an Ocean's 11. He put together a team that planned for a month doing extensive surveillance. They understood the layout to the building, the schedules and all the security protocols for the guards. Well this was because just like Ocean's 11, they had a man on the inside. And after watching every heist movie ever like me, Lee understood that getting into the inside wasn't to defeat the physical security. It was just to get the dude done like the door who they knew inside. Well it turns out they didn't really know a guy on the inside. They just found a guy on the inside and they kidnapped him. This guy's name is Colin Dixon, he was the depot manager. On the evening of February 21st 2006, Dixon was driving home when he was pulled over by man he believed were police officers. They even had the cherries and berries in the uniforms. Well Dixon had no reason to doubt them, but it turns out they weren't police, they were Murray's crew, they were doing an Ocean's 11. They ended up blindfolding this poor manager and took him with them. They went to the manager's house where his wife and their young children were and took them to. With the Dixon family as collateral held at separate locations in genuine fear for their lives, the crew brought Colin Dixon back to his own workplace in the middle of the night and made him open up the building. Dixon and his crew wearing ski masks and firearms took 14 members of the night shift hostage. They zip tied him, put him in a dark room and secured the building then started loading the money. Unlike Ocean's 11 Murray was recognized on security footage, Murray was really good at this. It turns out he was later identified on the security footage as the man that detectives nickname stopwatch. This is because on the CCTV footage, you can see him constantly checking the time, monitoring the pace of the operation and keeping the crew moving. He moved it like a precise military operation, you get in, you get the money and get out before law enforcement could respond. God this makes me want to watch heat so bad. If you haven't seen heat, you're wrong, go watch it right now. They ended up being inside the building for less than an hour when they left they had loaded 52,996,760 lbs of cash into their vehicles. They had to leave behind 154,000,000 lbs because they couldn't carry it. Oh they definitely wanted it, they just ran out of room. The bags of the vehicle that they brought was only sufficient enough to move 53 million. They left three times that behind, they just couldn't fit it. This is simultaneously the most impressive and most maddening thing about this heist. They pulled off one of the most audacious robberies in the history of Britain with military precision and the limiting factor was that they didn't bring enough bags or cars. Boo Brad Pitt and George Clooney wouldn't have done that. Boo Brad Pitt and George Clooney would have brought a big ass van, two vans, so four days after the high sleeve Murray was on a plane to Morocco. He held dual citizenship through his Moroccan father. And under Moroccan law, Morocco does not extradite its own nationals. He knew this. Part of the plan. Just like Brad Pitt and George Clooney would have known. But he got the money, he went to Morocco and became legally untouchable. The camp police launched a massive investigation. It involves 300 officers for insect scientists, and it. had international coordination. Most of the giveaway vehicles were found within days. I guess, unlike the town, Ben Affleck and Jeremy Renner would have poured a bunch of other people's hair from a barber shop all over the car than sat it on fire. Anyways, their car still had 1.3 million in cash still sitting in it. Some police raids were covered another 9 million in one location and another 8 million in another. Over time, 36 people were arrested in connection with the crimes and seven were eventually convicted and sentenced. Their combined citizen added up more than a hundred years. Lee Murray, though, was beyond reach. Morocco confirmed a citizenship and refused extradition. But he ended up being tried in Morocco in a Moroccan court under Moroccan law. How did he get caught? Well, he wasn't George Clooney in Brad Pitt. Well, before the highest, Murray was in a car accident and acting as he's always acted, which is very erratically, he fled the scene. He left the car and everything inside, including his mobile phone. At some point before the robbery, he had accidentally hit the record button on that phone during a conversation with a fellow plotter named Lee Russia. Yeah, he self-snitched. Him and this Russia guy had talked about the robbery in great detail and his phone recorded the whole thing. The police found this phone in this abandoned car after the car wrecked and they had Murray on tape. Pretty much admitting to everything. I never said he was smart. I just said he was a really fucking good fighter. Because he self-snitch, he ended up being sentenced to 10 years in Morocco. In 2010, he did attempt to escape from prison and his sentence was extended by 25 years. I don't know how, but he fathered a child in prison in 2010. He participated in a showtime documentary called Catching Lightning in 2023. 32 million dollars from the highest has never been recovered. Man, we are talking about some characters on this episode, but we're not done. Next up, let's talk about Desmond Green. This dude was a stellar fighter in the UFC also. He went 21, seven in his professional career. But he did a little crime too. On August 18th, 2018, at approximately 6.15 in the morning, he was driving his 2011 Dodge Durango on Interstate 75 and him broke Brian's Florida. It was early morning, nothing too fancy. Schools were just opening in a couple hours and people were starting to move around to go to work. Green though was shit-house. Toxicology later confirmed he was over the legal limit for alcohol. He also had some nose knot shows in the car. That's right, a plastic bag of white powder that tests a positive for cocaine. Well, because he was on blow and a bunch of alcohol, he drifted out of his lane into the past of a tractor trailer. The tractor trailer hit him and the impact triggered a chain reaction crash involving five vehicles total. One car was knocked into the crash barricade hard enough that it flipped and inside the car were two women. Those two women were granny is a 67-year-old and a 76-year-old who were both from Miami. Them being furloughed ladies died in the accident. Two other people aside from the grannies were seriously injured and taken to the hospital. Green, like any freaking wreck involving a drunk person, had minor injuries. Dude, from being a cop, I can tell you, and from knowing a bunch of other cop stories, the drunk people always just bounce around the car but they end up killing an entire family. Life is funny like that sometimes. Espolice and first responders were on scene as they were actively working the crash. Two women were dying right beside them. Green was observed throwing a metal object over the highway barrier wall. Well, officers not being fucking idiots, went and got it and it ended up being a weed grinder with residue inside of it. There's these old ladies bleeding out to seriously injured people. Five cars flipped over and he was thought, well, I need to get rid of this weed grinder. So because of the giant retard he is, he was charged with 20 counts. Two counts of DUI manslaughter, four counts of DUI causing seriously bodily injury, five counts of DUI causing property damage. Possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license. That's right, his license was suspended at the time of the wreck. Wait, that's all of it. To sum it all up, he was driving illegally, drunk, on cocaine, on a suspended license, and killed two people seriously injuring two others. Well, he posted a $194,000 bill and put not guilty. And the UFC who has cut people for far less kept Desmond Green on the roster. He fought in the UFC one month after killing two people and then fought another five months after that and then fought a third time nine months after the crash. Hey, when one of those fights? His last UFC fight, those in May 2019, almost a year after he drove drunk on cocaine and killed two elderly women in a Florida interstate. On January of 2020, Desmond Green was arrested for driving on a suspended license while out on bail, facing charges for killing two people while driving. But yeah, he was just doing whatever the fuck he wanted to do. His bail that time fortunately was revoked and he went back to jail. Doing research on this, I can't find if he ever went to jail or not. As of today, June 9th, 2026, I got to looking around his Instagram. He's on their training to fight it looks like as of 10 weeks ago. I don't know what the outcome was of him getting drunk, doing coke, smoking weed and killing people. I don't know what it became of that. Your guess is as good as mine at this point. I researched this stuff for a while and I can't find anything. What about Lamumba Sayers? Lamumba Sayers Senior was a professional MMA fighter. He competed in strike for us. You guys might remember that. At one point, it was UFC's main competitor. It was eventually absorbed into UFC. As of 2024, Lamumba was still fighting in bare-knuckled boxing championships. He won his most recent professional fight in May of 2024. Our dude was competing at 47 years old man. That's old for fighter. He also founded and ran an anti-gun violence organization called Gloves Up, Guns Down, Head in the Hood. It was ran out of a gym called Heavy Hands, Heavy Hearts in Aurora, Colorado. He worked with young people trying to give them the tools and the community to stay out to recycle a violence that claimed so many young men in that environment. By community accounts, he was genuinely committed to his work in helping young men. People said it wasn't just a side project. It was central to his identity and he was doing a good job. His son, Lamumba Sayers Junior, was also a mixed martial arts fighter. The sun was also an anti-violence activist. It was a father and son working the same calls and the same community. In August of 2023, though, the sun, Lamumba Sayers Junior, he was 23 years old and was killed in a shooting. A man named Tyrell Braxton was convicted of that killing and sentenced to more than 16 years in prison in 2025. A 28 year old man named Malcolm Watson was a friend of Tyrell Braxton. Braxton was the one who I just said shot the son of this UFC fighter. On August 10th, 2024, Lamumba Sayers Senior attended an anti-gun violence rally. He went there as himself, which was the man who runs gloves up, guns down. He was the father who lost a son to gun violence and was an advocate for the community. He was there doing the work. He dedicated himself to just spite losing a son to gun violence. The rally was over, everyone was packing up. So he left, got in his car and drove to the Paradise Island Water Park in Commerce City just outside Denver. 28 year old Malcolm Watson, who was friends with a guy that killed his son, was there attending a birthday party for his five year old son. The UFC fighter walked up to Watson at the party in front of Watson's family, in front of Watson's child, and in front of everyone at a little kid's birthday party at a public pool on a summer afternoon. And shot Malcolm Watson in the head at close range with a ghost gun. Yet he pulled out a 3D printed gun and shot this dude at close range in the head three times. The gun was never recovered though. Witnesses, of course, saw everything, though. There wasn't any getting out of this for the UFC fighter. They described the birthday party, the children, and then this random man walking up and shooting someone in the head and walking away. Prosecutors argued that Sayers believed Watson was connected to the death of his son, and that Watson, as a friend of Braxton, bore some responsibility. Witnesses to the attack also said the same thing. This is a revenge for Lamumba Jr. On April of 2026, Jury convicted Lamumba Sayers senior of second degree murder. He was acquitted of the first degree murder charge but convicted on second degree, along with tampering with physical evidence. As of this recording, he hasn't been sentenced. That's gonna happen later in 2026. Oh, and let's talk about my favorite story. It's not nice, but it has kind of a happy ending. Kane Velasquez. I'm gonna give you the ending of this story before I give you the beginning because the beginning requires context to properly understand, I think, and I want you to have the full picture before we get there. On February 28, 2022, Kane Velasquez, a two-time UFC heavyweight champion, one of the most decorated and respected fighters in the history of the sport. Guide in his car loaded with a 40 caliber handgun and chased another man's truck for 11 miles through the streets of San Jose and Morgan Hill, California, fiery multiple rounds at someone. He missed the guy he was trying to kill. He ended up shooting an innocent bystander though, a man named Paul Bender. Paul was the intended target stepfather who was just driving the truck. He ended up being hit in the arm in the torso. Kane pled no contest to attempted murder in March of 2025 and was sentenced to five years in prison with credit four times served. He had spent eight months in jail before making bill and had approximately two more years to serve. Actually just got out recently. Why did he chase the dude for 11 miles while shooting at him? Well, I'll tell you why because it's not a complicated story to understand emotionally, even though it's kinda complicated in a bunch of other ways. Kane was born and raised in California. He became one of the best heavyweight fighters who ever lived. He beat Junior Dos Santos twice. He beat Brock Lesnar twice and held the UFC heavyweight title with the style that was relentlessly athletic and technically demanding the way that heavyweight simply were not supposed to be. He was a wrestler who could strike hard dude, a striker who could wrestle and a pressure fighter with an elite cardio at 265 pounds. He was there for a little bit genuinely the best heavyweight on the freaking planet. He ended up retiring in 2019 after a knockout lost to Frances Nagano.
Which, there's no shame in that in a gun who's a fucking animal, too. He docks out everyone. Well, a few days before February 28, 2022, a man named Harry Gellart was arrested. Gellart was the adult son of a woman who ran a home daycare in San Jose. The daycare was attended by Kane Velasquez, young son. Gellart was charged with sexually assaulting Kane's 4-year-old son at the daycare. The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office sought to have Gellart held without bill. That's because this is California, a judge, overruled them. Gellart was released and was placed on home detention with an ankle monitor. He was ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from any child under 14. Well, Kane Velasquez tracked down Gellart's location. He found the truck that Gellart would be in and on the afternoon of February 28th on a public road near an elementary school that was letting out for the day. In traffic with other vehicles around, hit the gas and started a chase. He chased this kiddie didler for 11 miles. He went through two cities while firing his handgun at the truck the entire time. The truck ended up having not only the kiddie didler in it, but two more people. It had the bad guy's mother and stepfather in the car too. Kane unfortunately did not hit the guy he was aiming for. He hit the stepfather twice in the arm in the torso. Stepdad did survive and unfortunately the bad guy wasn't hit. The police ended up catching up with Velasquez and at the end of the chase he was arrested without incident. When investigators searched his phone, they found google search made the day before the shooting that were looking up sexual assault cases were victims family fights back and sexual assault cases were victims family retaliates. I mean, he had been thinking about it and planning it. This could come up in court's premeditation. The MMA community's response was immediate and overwhelming. I'll be honest. I was on his side when I figured out why he was shooting at the guy. Fun razors went up for him within hours and fighters wore his name on shirts at events. Many of the figures who covered the sport went on record defending him and the general sentiment was we understand why he did this hell like I said I understood it. The DA statement was pretty blunt. He said the defendant decided to become judge jury and executioner. His actions endangered and I said by standards including young children and their parents who could have been injured or killed as he shot at his intended victim. I mean the DA is right like a bully could have went off and killed some other kid. I understand where Kane's head was though at that time. Two things can be true. Anyways, Valesquez pled no contest in August 2024. He was sentenced to March 2025 to five years with time served. He was released on parole in February of this year. Harry Gullart, the man that Valesquez was trying to kill, is still awaiting trial in the child molestation charges as of this recording. He has not been convicted of anything yet. I don't like California justice system things most of the time. You'll know that if you watch my main channel. Well, that's the UFC crimes video. I told you guys crime is fine until next time, don't nut out.
