This teaching examines word curses, which are spoken or written declarations intended to bring harm, destruction, or judgment on others. Drawing from Romans 12:14, the speaker contrasts the Greek words for blessing and cursing, showing that blessing invokes benefit while cursing pronounces doom. The account of Balaam and Balak illustrates that curses are real, as confirmed by archaeological evidence, but God can override them and turn curses into blessings. When Balaam could not curse Israel directly, he advised Balak to tempt Israel into sexual immorality and idolatry, causing Israel to bring the curse upon themselves. The teaching stresses that curses only land when there is an open door in a person's life, as Proverbs 26:2 confirms. Authority figures such as parents, husbands, judges, doctors, teachers, and pastors can release words with spiritual weight, and fathers or husbands have authority to break careless vows spoken in their households. The tongue is described in James 3 as a fire set by hell that can defile the speaker. Believers are urged to confess, repent, forgive, bless those who cursed them, declare curses broken, and command demons to leave. Protection comes through active, costly righteousness, not average obedience, because with no open door, no curse can land.
0:10
So far we have studied the Karem curse, accursed things, generational curses, inherited curses, witchcraft curses, personal sin curses, and now we're on word curses and that's what we're looking at today, word curses.
0:44
Romans chapter 12 verse 14 says bless those who persecute you.
Bless and do not curse.
1:05
What is the biblical explanation for a word curse?
First of all, we have to examine what the word bless means.
And then we're going to look at what the word curse means.
1:23
And we're going to take that from Romans 12/14 that is telling us, and we know this teaching is based on what Jesus himself said.
Apostle Paul is reminding the church to bless those who persecute you and in general to bless and do not curse.
1:46
So let's examine the meaning of the word bless.
The word bless was translated from the Greek word eulogio.
Eulogio And it means to bless, to praise, or to speak well of to invoke a benediction, to confer a benefit and an utterance for one to prosper.
2:24
And what about the word curse?
The word curse in the verse that we just looked at, Romans 12/14, was translated from the Greek word kataro Mai.
2:42
Kataro Mai And it means to damn, which is to put a curse on, or to doom which is to pronounce destruction.
2:59
So for us to get the picture, loud and clearly word curses are spoken announcements or malicious declarations intended to bring harm, destruction or judgement on others.
3:26
Now, if we use evil words against others, we're wishing them harm.
Evil words flow from the emotion of bitterness, anger, hatred, jealousy.
3:53
I can even add in frustration there, envy or even fear.
It is a wilful pronouncement of judgement, ruin or exclusion from God's favour.
4:14
Now we're going to look at an example from the Word of God.
Let's look at Baloch and Balaam.
Baloch, the king of Moab, was terrified of Israel and wanted someone to put a curse on them.
4:38
So Baloch sent his men to a Pagan seer, or even a magician as the Bible calls him in a certain book called Balham.
And Balham had a really, really good reputation for being able to curse people.
4:58
Numbers 22, verse 6.
Come now, curse this people for me, since they are too mighty for me, perhaps I shall be able to defeat them and drive them from the land.
For I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed.
5:24
Wow.
Balam's ability to do this was real.
Witchcraft is real, and so are word curses.
5:42
But Balam couldn't curse Israel, and you need to understand why that is.
He couldn't curse Israel simply because God, Yahweh intervened.
5:58
You all know the story, right?
God intervened and Yahweh, their God refused to allow it.
He overrode Balham's divinatory efforts and forced him to pronounce blessings instead.
6:23
That's the only reason why Balam couldn't do it, because God forbade it.
Deuteronomy chapter 23.
We're going to read verses 3 to 5 on the slides.
No Ammonite or Moabite may enter the assembly of the Lord Yahweh even to the 10th generation.
6:47
None of them may enter the assembly of the Lord forever, because they did not meet you with bread and with water on the way when you came out of Egypt, and because they hired against you Balham the son of Bill from Pathol of Mesopotamia to curse you.
7:11
But Yahweh the Lord your God would not listen to Balaam.
Instead, the Lord your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord Yahweh your God loved you.
7:37
Amen.
Indeed, I'm trying to drum home the point that the only reason why the curse didn't work is because God disallowed it.
7:53
Did you know that in 1967, archaeologists found the Dear Our Inscription, which is an 8th century BC text written in red and black ink on a plastered wall in Israel?
8:11
It famously recounts the night visions and prophecies of Balam, the son of Bill.
And that's a copy of it.
Balam was a real person doing real curses.
8:32
That worked, and there is archaeological evidence to prove it.
I want you to digest that, because this proves that blessing and cursing is real.
8:56
And I'm not talking about swear words.
I'm talking about the example that I gave you earlier of what a word curse is.
It proves, I mean, we believe God anyway, right?
But this is probably for those of you who want to temporarily believe things in the Bible and then believe other things when you're ready.
9:21
This is proof to you that the season we're in Israel and this is proof to you that Balham existed.
I actually read the transcript of that and it's very interesting.
You should look it up and have a look at it yourself.
9:38
It's very interesting.
But remember, this guy was famous because what he did worked.
It means that we've got to take word curses very seriously.
So in true Satan fashion, you all know the story and we just read snippets of it in the verses that I picked out from the first Testament, the Old Testament, Balham couldn't curse Israel.
10:10
It failed.
But in true Satan fashion, Balham, obviously inspired by Satan, helped Baloch to devise a way to curse Israel.
10:30
For Israel to curse themselves.
Should I say?
For those of you who don't know, he told Baloch to use the Moabite and Midianite women against the men of Israel.
10:45
In other words, go and tempt them, go and tempt them into sexual immorality, and then what will follow then is idolatry.
And guess what?
It worked.
So Israel brought the curse upon themselves.
11:01
But they could never say that God didn't protect them from a curse.
He did His best.
And what a lesson for us, eh?
What a lesson that God has provided everything we could ever need to protect us from curse activity and it will be us ourselves that opens a door for it to thrive.
11:28
It worked to a point with Israel that 23,000 to 24,000 Israelites died in a plague caused because of this numbers chapter 31 verse 16.
11:51
Behold these on Balham's advice caused the people of Israel to act treacherously against the Lord in the incident of pure and so the plague came among the congregation of the Lord.
12:08
Thus says the word of God.
So with the word curse that might have been released against you or against I, it doesn't work.
Satan will be on hand to see if he can bring us down another way.
12:28
Word curses are negative, evil, and harmful words released from the heart, through the mouth, or via text or e-mail, and they are dangerous because demons wait to jump on them and put them into effect.
12:55
Just like when we release blessings, the godly spiritual realm catches those words in order to bring them into effect.
It's the same thing, but don't worry.
13:16
Please don't worry.
I need to share this with you all now.
Don't worry, demons can't do what they like.
They can only put a curse into effect in your life if there is an open door.
13:33
Did you hear what I said?
Shall I repeat that?
They can only put a curse into effect in your life if there is an open door.
Proverbs chapter 26, verse 2.
13:52
As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
14:11
It might not be obvious to us, but birds don't wander around or fly for nothing, even though they look like they might be.
And God mentioned the word swallows in this verse, so obviously we have to take a look at what they do.
14:31
And millions of swallows fly around 6, 1000 miles from Europe to Africa every year in order to avoid the cold winters here. 6000 miles.
14:48
So we might look up at them and say, what are they doing?
They're probably just playing around in the sky.
No, no, they're going somewhere on purpose for a reason.
So just like swallows don't do anything without a reason, a curse doesn't land on anyone without a reason.
15:11
This is why Jesus said that we should not curse or put spells on people, but rather bless them.
Because what we say is released with power.
15:27
And if it lands, if it lands, if what you say was negative and full of evil and destructive words, if it lands, it'll be only because there is an open door in that person's life.
15:46
And that's sad because we all slip sometimes.
Do you get the picture?
Do you see what I'm saying?
You just need to be on your slippery slide.
You know the slippery slide that you visit sometimes as a Christian and someone happens to release a word curse towards you, it will land because you're slipping at the moment.
16:11
That's why Jesus said don't do it, because it can work.
Now the Bible gives clear examples of people cursing others as either pronounced judgements or by God or out of anger.
16:31
We all remember that Elijah cursed 42 young boys, apparently because they called him bald head.
Oh, you'll have to read about it.
16:47
They came out of the city, saw him going up to Bethel, that's where he was going.
And they said go on up bald head, go on up bald head.
And he turned round and he cursed them in the name of the Lord, and two shebes came out and mauled them all to death.
17:10
Why did that happen?
Yeah, he did it out of anger.
But you know what?
The principle was there.
Don't disrespect a prophet.
That's the bottom line.
That's why that happens.
There's always a teachable principle behind the reason why these things happen.
17:31
As I said, there are examples in the Bible, you've all seen it, of people cursing people, whether it be out of anger, sorrow, or a message of God's judgement upon their lives.
For example, Noah cursed his grandson.
17:48
Genesis Chapter 9 verse 25 tells us that he said that Noah said cursed be Canaan, a servant of servant shall he be to his brothers.
It's a very interesting topic this is.
18:06
I'd love to go into it one day.
Probably be in Bible study though because it's a bit too hairy for you church people.
It's true though.
Guess what?
The curse worked.
The curse came to pass hundreds of years later.
18:26
The Canaanites who were Canaan's descendants were indeed Israel's slaves and some other gentile nations.
Did you know that?
18:42
The curse says curse became and a servant of servant shall he be to his brothers.
His brothers names were Shem.
Shem is the ancestor of the Israelites and his other brother's name was Japheth, and Japheth was the ancestor is the ancestor of the Gentiles.
19:10
But you know that, don't you?
I just wanted to tell you that the curse came to pass because if you read in your Bible, you'll see that the Canaanites were indeed taken into slavery by Israel and some Gentile nations also.
19:34
King David cursed.
He did.
Yes, he did.
King David pronounced the curse in around 1000 BC.
Second Samuel chapter 1, verse 21.
19:54
You mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew or rain upon you, nor fields of offerings, for there the shield of the mighty was defiled, the shield of Saul.
20:11
Not anointed with oil.
What exactly happened here?
What happened on the mountains of Gilboa?
King Saul and his son Jonathan died on one of the mountains of Gilboa.
20:31
King David pronounced a curse on the mountain.
He said be barren, let nothing grow on you and in other words, forever.
20:48
Now if you look at this picture, you'll see I've got my little wand here.
You'll see this bit here is the Jezreel Valley, and it is very, very fertile.
21:05
It's in Israel, OK.
And here just, I don't know, north of the Jezreel Valley.
I'm talking about upwards here.
This whole area here is barren.
21:22
The Jezreel Valley is fertile, but that little bit there is barren.
I'll show you another picture.
There you go.
There's a close up look at that.
So you can see all the greenery on certain parts of the mountain, but there's a bald part, and that bald part is a barren part, is the part that David cursed.
21:48
So King Saul and Jonathan fell somewhere along here up to around there.
That curse took place in 1000 BC and today would make it around 3000 years old as a curse.
22:11
And guess what, it still looks like that.
It still looks like that as a result of King David's curse.
I would love to visit that part of Israel.
22:28
So much happened in the Valley of Jezreel.
I would love to see it.
Now let's open our Bibles and go to James chapter 3, James chapter 3, and we're going to be reading from verse 4 all the way down, all the way down to the end of verse 12.
23:20
Have we got it?
James chapter 3 reading from verse 4 all the way down to the end of 12.
Do we have it?
OK, look at the ships also.
23:36
Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs.
So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things.
23:53
How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire, and the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness.
The tongue is set among our members, staying in the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell.
24:19
For every kind of beast and bird of reptile and sea creature can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind.
But no human being can tame the tongue.
It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
24:36
With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who were made in the likeness of God.
From the same mouth come blessing and cursing.
24:55
My brothers and sisters, these things ought not to be so.
Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water?
Can a fig tree, my brothers, bare olives or a Grapevine produce figs?
25:14
Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water.
Amen to the word of God.
Let's consider what James is trying to teach us here.
The human tongue is a powerful force.
25:35
I can light a spiritual forest fire with my words against you.
It can burn for your good.
I can use it to light a fire of good over you, meaning I can bless you and I've lit a good fire to burn over your life.
25:57
Or my words can burn for your detriment.
Do you know how long forest fires burn for at all?
Anyone.
Do you know how long it would take the fire brigade or the fire services to put a forest fire out?
26:20
It wouldn't be.
It wouldn't be within 510 minutes, would it?
It would take a while.
And the thing with the forest fire is it keeps going.
If there's something for it to catch onto, if there's something for it to light up in its path, it will.
26:44
And it keeps going.
You've seen what's been happening in this country, haven't you?
People have lost their homes because fires started in woodland and places like that and wouldn't stop burning.
And some people have literally lost their houses.
27:01
I saw it.
I can't even imagine that happening.
Can you imagine your house burning down?
And it wasn't due to an arsonist, It was down to some forest fire or something.
I'm trying to show you the magnitude of what the tongue can do according to the Word of God.
27:22
Words clearly have a burning, lingering effect.
Word curses are full of deadly poison and we all have the power, every single one of us.
27:42
We all have the power to release words that demons jump on.
But worse than that, what does it mean when the Bible says that the tongue, and this is in verse 6, the tongue is set on fire by hell.
28:04
What does that mean?
I remember reading a commentary on that years ago and then what they wrote was that the tongue itself will be set on fire in hell if it's used for wrong.
28:21
But that never made sense to me.
I thought why just the tongue?
What?
Why can't you say it's the whole body?
I don't understand.
As the tongue gets separated and grow legs and walk into a certain part of hell.
I didn't understand it, but you know what it means.
28:40
It means that if we're using this tongue for bad words, negative words, evil words, if we're using it to speak destruction over people, if we're using it carelessly, or we're using cruel words and we know when our words are cruel, come on, everybody knows.
28:57
Guess what this means?
It means that those words are straight from the realm of evil and darkness.
It's hell itself.
Let us set your tongue on fire to speak the way you're speaking.
29:17
That's what this means.
And also consider this, that if I use my mouth for evil, it turns around and defiles me.
29:37
That's what we read.
It turns around and it defiles me.
And if I'm defiled, what the Bible teaches me about defilement is this.
If I am defiled, it means that I am unclean.
And if I am unclean, it is because demons have entered.
29:57
That's what makes me unclean.
And if I'm unclean, I've opened my door to curse activity.
So it may seem like a cool thing.
30:12
You may feel big and strong lashing out with word curses when you feel like it.
But please know that you're opening a door for evil to rest in your own life as a result of it.
30:27
Hardly worth it, is it?
Proverbs chapter 12 verse 13 says an evil man is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, but the righteous escapes from trouble.
30:48
Amen to the word of God.
We've got to blow up the word ensnared.
Ensnared has been translated from the Hebrew word Yakosh.
Yakosh and Yokosh portrays anything that entangles a living creature or a human soul so that freedom is lost.
31:27
When it comes to word curses spoken by others, the Bible emphasizes the power of words that can be spoken over us for our detriment or for a blessing by people in positions of authority that God Himself approves of.
31:51
Let's take a look at who these people are.
Parents.
Parents can curse their children with words such as you're no good, you'll never amount to anything, you're stupid, or similar references.
32:16
And in particular, I'm going to pull fathers out of that, and I want you to turn your Bibles to Numbers chapter 30.
And we're going to read, in fact, we're going to read from verse 1 to 8.
32:36
I'm sorry, I've got chapter 30, verses 3 to 8 here, but I want to push it to verse 1.
Moses spoke to the heads of the tribes of the people of Israel, saying, This is what the Lord has commanded.
32:52
If a man vows A vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by a pledge, he shall not break his word.
He shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.
33:08
If a woman vows A vow to the Lord, and binds herself by a pledge while within her father's house in her youth, and her father hears of her vow and of her pledge by which she has bound herself, and says nothing to her, then all her vows shall stand, and every pledge by which she has bound herself shall stand.
33:34
But if her father opposes her on the day that he hears of it, no vow of hers, no pledge by which she has bound herself, shall stand, and the Lord will forgive her because her father opposed her.
33:51
If she marries a husband while under her vows, or any thoughtless utterance of her lips by which she has bound herself, and her husband hears of it and says nothing to her on the day that he hears, then her vows shall stand, and her pleasures by which she has bound herself shall stand.
34:14
But if on the day that her husband comes to hear of it, he opposes her, then he makes void her vow that was on her, and the thoughtless utterance of her lips by which she bound herself, and the Lord will forgive her.
34:35
Amen to the word of God.
But what does this mean?
What did all of that mean?
Well, you can have a look at it.
34:50
The broader spiritual picture of this passage is telling us that God has given a father or a husband the authority to break careless vows or negative words spoken in their households.
35:10
That's the broader picture.
So if my husband overhears my daughter saying I've decided I am not going to get married, I'm going to do this, I'm going to do that, I'm going to do that, and I'm going to be free to worship the Lord because if I get married then I might not be able to.
35:29
So I'm not getting married.
And that's that.
My husband overhears her saying that he has the authority to say I break your words, you are getting married and any other careless words that are spoken in this house.
35:45
Let's say his wife is under pressure one day.
I'm a terrible wife, I'm a rubbish mother.
I can't do this, I can't do that.
He has the authority to break those words that she is speaking over herself.
In fact, he has the responsibility to do it.
36:04
That's if he overhears.
If he doesn't overhear, then her words stand.
Do you know how many words my husband has broken that I have said?
And mainly to do with things like maybe pain that I might be feeling.
I might say something like, oh, this will never end or when will this happen or something.
36:25
And he'll always, he'll always come back and say it will end.
This won't be for long.
This won't be forever.
You're going to get well.
Isn't that right there?
He always does, but now he knows that what he's doing is breaking my words.
36:42
Maybe he knew that anyway, but God expects him to do that because I have authority to speak things over myself.
Yes, I do, as we will see as we carry on.
36:58
Next example, rulers and judges.
They have the authority to use their words to condemn, which is a curse, or to release, which is a blessing, isn't it?
37:13
You'll come out of court rejoicing if the judge lets you off.
If he doesn't let you off, you are condemned.
That's how it goes.
Doctors, Yes, doctors are traditionally and functionally considered to be authority figures.
37:34
Many Christians receive their words at times as the final prognosis from a doctor.
The doctor said that I should only walk for one minute every day.
So guess what, they walk for one minute every day.
37:51
Don't get me wrong, there are things that the doctor says to do that are right.
But then what about the times when the doctor says, I'm sorry, you are not going to make it past 50?
And you say Amen.
38:07
And you say to him, why do you say that?
And he says, according to statistics and case studies, what you have means that you won't live past with according to what case studies.
38:23
Do you know how many people would accept that and then go home and tell their family?
The doctor said, I'm not going to live past 50.
And he's only getting that information from what he studied.
And can I say, Christians sometimes put the word of the doctor above the word of gods when God himself says that he is the healer, He's the great physician.
38:51
We have great respect for doctors.
And we're not saying that we're not going to consider what they say is wrong with us, but sometimes they speak negative words.
I'll give you an example.
I'll give you an example of Deaconess Hoes.
After she had, was it Johnny, was it Hesbong?
39:10
I don't know.
It was Hesbong.
One of the boys, she said, the doctor said to her, I'm really sorry, but you're going to have high blood pressure now.
And she said, no, I'm not,
39:31
and she doesn't, But it might have been a completely different story.
She said, oh, really?
OK, So what shall I do?
Well, you can start taking a prescription now, you know, to just get ahead of it.
39:52
Isn't that something?
So it's just an example.
But we love doctors.
We love Doctor Hesbong.
We we love, we love you, Doctor Hesse.
OK.
OK.
Who else then?
Who else?
Teachers.
40:08
Teachers are traditional authority figures.
They hold formal power and responsibility within schools to manage classrooms direct learning.
And guide student behaviour.
The words of an encouraging teacher or the words of one who says don't even bother applying for uni cuts deep into the soul of a child and is never forgotten.
40:36
I can still remember what my careers teacher said to me.
I don't want to start.
No political flames in here today, but what she said to me, she didn't say to other people who were from a different nationality.
40:53
I remember and unfortunately I listened because they were an authority.
I didn't realise until afterwards, after school had finished, when I heard about what this person was doing and what they were doing.
Afterwards, I realised that the information I was given was stereotypically biased against my colour.
41:18
Real, right?
Real.
I'm sure other other people can tell you their teachers said horrible things to them.
They'll, they'll never do this.
They'll never do that.
No point in doing that.
You're never going to make it.
41:34
You should just do this instead.
I'm sure you've all been told things by your teachers.
I can even remember being told off by a teacher.
Her words cut deep and I couldn't understand why.
They're authority figures.
41:51
Anyone else?
Pastors, ministers and prophets.
Their roles carry weight, but only when they faithfully teach and apply the Word of God, not when verbal witchcraft is used from the pulpit.
42:14
Verbal witchcraft An example of verbal witchcraft from the pulpit.
If you leave this church, you're going to die in six months because there is a blessing of life on this church.
42:31
And if I can't even carry on with the nonsense or they'll use money, they'll use the tithe.
You know, it's not enough to teach the truth that the tithe is K R.E.M They don't bother to research that.
42:46
They'll just hit you with the heavy and say if you don't tithe, you're going to lose your house, you're going to lose your car, you're going to lose this.
You'll never be blessed.
This that that.
Look, my brothers and sisters, fellow pastors and ministers, if you're listening, if you need money, if the church needs money, just tell the congregation, don't chat nonsense and don't twist up the word of God for your benefit.
43:08
God is listening and if you don't raise the money, shut the church and say to the Lord, I've done my job, ain't no biggie.
43:24
The final authority to pay attention to because their words land you.
The dictionary says that one aspect of authority is the right or power to make your own decisions.
43:47
Now, if any one of these individuals, including you, who are in positions of authority, have spoken anything negative over you, anything evil over you or to you, the words need to be broken.
44:07
And if we're taking this teaching seriously today, we will also have to deal with the following hurtful and evil words that others have spoken against us.
44:29
Who are these people who may have done such a thing?
Enemies, strangers and families.
Strangers.
Yeah, you might.
I don't know.
44:44
Drivers, for instance, You, you cut someone up accidentally.
Of course.
You cut someone up and you can hear the shouting.
You can see the hand waving in your rearview mirror.
The individual is probably word cursing you.
45:01
Enemies known and unknown.
That's a given.
Family also.
Unfortunately, they're guilty of doing this too.
We will have to pay attention to hurtful words that we have spoken against others.
45:26
Who are these others?
People we don't like, people we're jealous of or people we're angry with or have been angry with.
45:43
We have to pay attention to hurtful words that we have spoken against ourselves.
Why?
Why do we do that?
Why do we?
Why do we say negative things about ourselves?
46:02
Do you know that our brain is wired to lean towards negative before positive?
It's a scientific fact.
The human brain has an innate tendency known as the negativity bias, meaning it registers and reacts to negative experiences more intensely than positive ones.
46:31
That's why the Word of God tells us not to be conformed to this world, but to renew our minds, because Jesus is all positive.
46:47
There's lots of training to do because actually you're up against something that is innate.
But I don't want to digress.
I just wanted to expound on that a little.
47:02
I need to tell you that once words are released, you can't get them back.
And we've all said things that we've regretted saying, what can we do?
47:19
What can we do?
There's only one thing we can do, and that is that's if we care.
I'm sorry.
Let me narrow, narrow the bracket here.
This is for people who actually care about having said negative words that they wish they hadn't said.
47:36
OK, right, Because someone might be sitting there thinking, I don't care.
I was glad about what I said, so I I can't assume that we're all feeling some type of way about things we may have said.
If we have said something negative and we we regret having said it based on what we've heard now about the fact that those words have been released into the spiritual atmosphere, demons have jumped onto those words.
48:02
What can we do?
All we can do is follow the Word of God.
That's all we can do.
Why should we follow the word of God?
Because we realise right now that we've sinned.
We've sinned because Jesus said and Apostle Paul reminded us of what Jesus said, to bless and do not curse.
48:23
Now I love that bless and do not curse.
So guess what, Even to bless is a commandment.
When is the last time you bless someone?
Oh, I bless every Saturday.
When Pastor Sue says go and bless someone, that's not good enough.
48:39
We're told to bless because our words have the power to enter into that person's life and to go burning for their good.
Isn't that something?
And that is something I've always asked us to do here.
48:56
And I've always added this might be the only blessing that they've had for the week.
I've always said that.
And this is the reason they may need it.
And once you release those words off, those words go into their lives and start adding to good for them.
49:16
Hallelujah, praise the Lord.
So what do we do if we have released these words against others and we're feeling some type of way?
We got to follow the word of God.
We have to confess.
We got to confess that we've done that.
49:32
We're going to take time before the Lord, and we got to confess that we've done that.
We've got to repent, and then you've got to bless, bless those who you just cursed.
49:50
And if you don't remember, ask the Lord to remind you.
Or maybe you cursed your child on the way to church this morning.
Maybe you spoke evil last year.
Maybe you did it 10 years ago.
It doesn't matter.
50:08
It really doesn't matter.
Replace it now with a blessing.
Bless and do not guess.
But what about the words that I said that I didn't mean?
50:31
I love that no one's supposed to know that you didn't mean it when it came out your mouth like a dragon.
You're dodging flames.
But you didn't mean it.
OK, that's an afterthought, right?
50:49
That's an afterthought.
But if you really didn't mean it because you know that can happen, you get caught up in the moment.
Sadly, Satan has already caught hold of those words.
He's already.
He's already grabbed them.
He may have even been the one that initiated them.
51:05
Remember, the tongue is set on fire from hell.
Unfortunately, he's got them and he's ran with them.
He's causing trouble now for the person you spat it AT, and he's turning around and defiling you at the same time.
51:21
He's doing as much damage as possible.
You may have said it last year.
I'm telling you, if those words haven't been broken, they're still travelling.
They're still travelling.
51:37
It really doesn't matter if you didn't mean it.
So what should we do then?
What should we do?
Romans chapter 12 verse 21.
Do not be overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good.
51:53
If you know that you have released evil, if you know you've done something evil, if you know that your movements were inspired by hell, overcome it now with good right now.
52:11
Don't wait another minute.
Put the fire out.
How sad.
Isn't that sad?
You know you may have just released it out of the heat of the moment and gone about your business and got on with your life.
52:27
And those words are still working hard against that individual, trying to find a gap in their lives to come in.
So incredibly sad.
Satan will do as much as possible as quickly as possible with what you release from your mouth for harm.
52:49
He doesn't wait until tomorrow.
It's immediate.
What do you say about them?
Excellent, excellent.
Don't be overcome by evil.
Overcome evil with good.
53:06
Overcome.
Get over it with good and not evil.
Did you curse your child this morning on the way to church?
Last week?
53:22
Last year?
20 years ago, did you tell them that they're stupid?
Well, bless them now.
Oh, they moved out.
53:39
Call them or text them and say I just want to bless you and tell you I love you and I just pray that God favours you and I'm proud of you.
53:54
Overcome the evil with good.
If you told them they're stupid, tell them they're intelligent and gorgeous.
It's true.
54:15
It's true.
Overcome evil with good.
Now suppose you overhear someone speaking evil about you, or you've heard through a third party that someone said something awful about you.
54:36
They've literally uttered word curses about you and that person.
Just they just couldn't help it.
They had to tell you.
Maybe they were gossiping, but maybe they thought, no, I have to tell this person what they said.
54:51
They need to know what they're saying behind their back.
What should we do?
What should we do?
Well, this actually happened a lot to me a few years ago.
55:11
I'll talk about one situation.
There was a certain group of people who would get together and did exactly that.
I didn't have a third party coming to tell me what they said.
I had the Holy Spirit.
The Lord told me what was going on.
55:29
Now, I didn't understand why at the time, why He told me.
I thought it was maybe for me to, maybe it was my duty to exercise the truth of the gift of words, of knowledge.
So I contacted a couple of those individuals and I said the Holy Spirit told me that this was said, that was said, and that you would get together with certain people and this would happen.
55:54
And was that true?
The person would gasp and say, yeah, it's true.
How did you know?
The Holy Spirit told me, I would say, and that would be it.
56:11
Then there might be a sorry that they were partakers of it or but that's not why the Holy Spirit told me.
I thought it was, but that's not why He told me.
He was giving me the opportunity to denounce and to break those words.
56:29
That's why He told me.
Otherwise we could say the Holy Spirit's a troublemaker.
Like he wanted me to get into some beef because why is he telling me that?
56:46
But he was telling me as a mature believer that operated in that gifting.
I'm telling you what's being said because word curses are being released against you.
You need to go and break those words.
57:02
I'm going to tell you the truth.
I didn't know.
I didn't know.
I just thought it was all about the Holy Spirit tells us to see what people are saying.
You know, she's like an Elijah character.
Elijah character.
You can go and talk in your bedroom and the Holy Spirit will tell you what she said, what you said.
57:18
Oh, gift, gift, gift.
That's not what it's about.
That's not what it's for.
No.
You see, sometimes the life of negative words and the demons charge to follow them can even come through a text.
57:42
Did you hear what I said?
You can be word cursed or negative and destructive words can come through a text.
They don't have to be said, they can be sent right now.
57:58
I dealt with one a few weeks back and I told my husband I may have told Deacon essays as well, I'm not sure.
But as soon as I read the words in this text, my legs felt like heavy weights.
58:14
Like I was wearing some socks with five KG weights in them.
I'm not kidding.
I remember sitting at my desk and like whoa, my legs, my legs felt really heavy.
58:29
The Holy Spirit spoke to me and he told me to break the power of the words and things returned to normal.
58:49
I said, I reject and cancel your words.
These words are not from God.
I break the power of your words in the name of Jesus.
59:06
No, and that's what we've got to do.
There's no point in going to fight them because of what they said.
The thing you need to fight is in the atmosphere.
59:22
There's no point.
No point, this is going to take some training and practising on your part.
But if you believe the word of God, if you think back to Balham who was famous because his words, his curse words landed, you will train your mind to think as God tells us to think.
59:57
Whenever these words are flying, say what I said.
I reject your words.
These words are not from God.
I break the power of your words in the name of Jesus.
1:00:13
Swing your hand around if you have to.
I break the power of your words in the name of Jesus.
Make it real for yourself, because what's going on in the realm that you can't see is real.
Hallelujah.
1:00:30
We need to do this also.
But why do I need to do it?
I'm not really that way inclined.
You need to be inclined that way because evil words will stand if they go unchallenged.
1:00:49
I agree with discussions.
Hey, hey, hey.
It's about something you said to me last night.
Can I, can I just talk to you about that?
You know, we, we married people.
We're really good at that.
Something you said to me, Can we talk about it, please?
We're, we're good at that.
But I'm telling you, if they accidentally released something that pierced you like a knife, break the words.
1:01:15
But please don't go in their face and do it.
Don't say, hey, I want to talk to you.
Those words are not of God.
I break your words.
I break the power of your words.
In the name of Jesus, don't do that.
1:01:30
That, that.
No, that's a joke.
You can be in the kitchen, you can be outside, you can be anywhere and break these words.
You know why?
Because the words that were sent, that you felt were destructive, follow you.
1:01:48
Isn't that true?
You know that feeling when you can't shake it?
And it's like, like, what's the problem, man?
And it was just words.
What's the problem?
Oh, if we don't challenge those words, they stand.
1:02:05
You can get your apology later.
What's more important is what they're designed to do in the spiritual realm.
So if we know that curses have been spoken against us, we have the responsibility to forbid and to cancel those evil words and to break their power.
1:02:33
Agreed.
It's for your own good.
Now, I want to take you through some steps.
Now, this is only applicable if you believe that it has happened to you.
1:02:50
There are some things that you need to do #1 and this depends, number one, depends on how severe the words were.
If you can see that things in your life have changed negatively since the individual cursed you, and if you have anything from that individual in your possession, throw it away.
1:03:16
Throw it away.
Why is that, Pastor Sue?
Because anything that came from them to you has their words.
Their words are sitting on it.
1:03:32
It's connection.
Do you remember what you learnt last week about leprosy?
There's a spiritual principle with that.
Throw it away.
If they word cursed you, wished you the worst harm, I hope that you lost your job, you name it.
1:03:52
If they said all of that and then said I was only joking.
Joking.
Oh, I've heard that before.
I'm only joking.
No, no, you're not.
Well, if you think that's a joke, you're not feeling well.
1:04:09
And if you have anything in your possession from that individual, get rid of it.
Get rid of it.
That's number one.
As I said, it depends on how severe the words were that they said.
If they spoke an ending over your life, if they wished you financial ruin and hardship, if they said I hope you become poor tomorrow because of what you supposedly did to me.
1:04:35
Anything like that that's serious, that's severe point #1 if you notice that things are now happening negatively around you, look for something that might be theirs in your possession or that they gave to you.
1:04:50
Get rid of it #2 forgive them with words.
Remember, we're overcoming evil with good here.
Forgive them with words from your heart.
1:05:06
And if you don't mean it, don't do it until you're ready.
And then when you are ready and you forgive them with words, ask the Lord to bless them.
Jesus said an apostle Paul reminded us of his words Bless and do not curse #3 declare the negative words that they spoke over you, which are curses.
1:05:45
Declare them broken.
I gave you an example of how to do that.
Declare them broken.
Break the words #4 confess.
1:06:11
Open your mouth and say that you are blessed by the Lord and that through Jesus Christ you are a partaker of every spiritual blessing and of the blessings of Abraham, who the Bible tells us was blessed in all things.
1:06:30
That's why we say we have the blessing of Abraham.
OK?
It's because he was blessed in all things.
There's your scripture reference to.
Go and look it up in your own time.
Amen.
You got to confess that you're blessed.
If something was confessed for your detriment, confess the opposite.
1:06:53
Amen #5 then you can command every demon to get out of your house, which is your life.
Do you know that's what your house is spiritually?
It's your life.
Remember, Jesus is stronger than a strong man that was in a house.
1:07:12
He was telling us that he was in someone's life.
When the Bible speaks about your house that way, it's speaking about your life, not just your body, your life.
After you've done those four steps, yeah, you can command every demon to get out of your house.
1:07:32
But if you don't feel confident to do that, then find somebody who is in the Deliverance Ministry.
What about protection?
What about protection?
1:07:49
What can protect us from the witch's curse or from word curses, from our enemies or from random people?
What can protect us from a curse of a modern Balham?
1:08:06
Well, first of all, we can't go around worrying about things like that.
We're going to get paranoid.
What did you say?
What did you say?
Did you just word curse me?
Did word curse me?
You won't sleep at night.
Don't.
Don't.
You will know if someone word cursed you.
1:08:23
You won't have to investigate the words and say sorry.
Say, say that again.
You said what?
Were you angry when you said those words that you know?
Don't launch an investigation.
It's OK.
You'll know if it's a word curse.
1:08:40
We'll get paranoid if we keep reading into everything.
So where will our protection come from?
Our protection comes from living and walking in righteousness.
1:08:59
But you need to hear me on this kind of righteousness because I don't think we all share the same interpretation of righteousness.
Righteousness and living righteously before the Lord is not average obedience.
1:09:18
Did you hear me?
It's not average obedience.
Living righteously before the law to a level that you're protected from random word curses and a whole load of occultish things that goes on in the world is active and costly obedience.
1:09:51
Did you hear me?
Your righteousness has to consist of and be made-up of active, not passive act.
And costly.
1:10:07
It's got to cost you something.
Costly obedience.
That's the opposite of average obedience.
So hear me now.
Average obedience will not protect you.
1:10:26
Why should it?
If you've got average obedience, you've got doors open.
Facts.
If all doors are closed, there's nothing left for you to do but to live as a living sacrifice for Jesus Christ.
1:10:44
What else is there?
If the doors are closed, what else is there?
You understand what I'm saying?
It can't be normal obedience.
It can't be average.
You got to go further than that.
If you're going to go up against the devil and his hordes, you can't be living normal.
1:11:06
You can't just think that one day at church is enough because that doesn't cost you anything.
That's built into your schedule, mate.
That doesn't cost you anything.
You grew up like that, so it's part of your your mentality.
1:11:23
Church at the weekend, that's normal.
What might cost you is going to a Bible study.
What might cost you is attending a prayer meeting.
What might cost you is fasting on the Thursday.
You understand what I'm saying?
For those of you who have the questions.
1:11:39
What will protect me from these word curses?
The righteousness of God will protect you living righteously before God, but not with average obedience.
And you all know the difference anyway, don't you?
1:11:58
You all know when you're chilling versus when you are applying yourself.
You all know.
OK, Well praise God, we understand.
Now remember, if there is no open door, the curse can't land.
1:12:14
If there is no open door, the curse can't land one more time.
If there is no open door, the curse can't land.
Isn't that wonderful?
1:12:30
Now, that's really important because you guys, some of you guys have spent the last few weeks breaking curses.
What's the point if it can all happen again?
But you need to understand how it can start again.
No open door, no curse.
1:12:46
Praise the Lord now for us going forward, us going forward, we can't do anything right now about what people said about us apart from what I said you need to do, which was in your own time.
You go and break their words and all the rest of it.
1:13:03
Or perhaps you sat here and done it already because you know exactly what someone said.
But for us, we have to watch our mouths because Jesus said, and it's recorded in Matthew chapter 12, verse 36.
But I tell you that men will give an account on the day of judgement for every careless word they have spoken.
1:13:29
And we're not talking about careless words like, oh, I want to dance.
Oh, I'm going to run up the stairs.
Oh, I'm going to run down the stairs again.
Oh, oh, I'm, I'm speaking carelessly.
No, that's, that's not what we're talking about.
We're talking about saying things that cause harm to others carelessly because you don't care about what comes out of your mouth concerning that individual.
1:13:53
Jesus says there'll be a reckoning on the day of judgement.
You can't just go around speaking horribly about people.
And we receive that in Jesus name.
To be continued.
1:14:26
Praise the Lord, Praise God.
Podcast Summary
Key Points:
A word curse is a spoken or written malicious declaration intended to bring harm, destruction, or judgment on others, flowing from emotions such as bitterness, anger, hatred, jealousy, envy, or fear.
The biblical Greek terms define blessing as speaking well of and invoking benefit, while cursing means to damn or pronounce destruction, as seen in Romans 12:14.
Balaam, a real pagan seer confirmed by the Deir Alla inscription, could not curse Israel because God intervened and turned the curse into a blessing.
When Balaam failed to curse Israel directly, he advised Balak to tempt Israel into sexual immorality and idolatry, causing Israel to bring the curse upon themselves.
Curses only take effect when there is an open door in a person's life, as Proverbs 26:2 states that a causeless curse shall not come.
Authority figures such as parents, husbands, judges, doctors, teachers, and pastors can release words that carry spiritual weight, and fathers or husbands have God-given authority to break careless vows in their households.
The tongue is a powerful force set on fire by hell, and using it for evil defiles the speaker and opens doors for demonic activity in their own life.
Believers must confess, repent, forgive, bless those who cursed them, declare curses broken, and command demons to leave, while pursuing active and costly righteousness as protection.
Summary:
FAQs
Confess it to God, repent, and then deliberately bless that person with your words. If you don't remember who you cursed, ask God to remind you, then replace the curse with a blessing.
Unchallenged evil words can stand and give demons a legal right to work against you. Breaking them cancels their spiritual power and prevents them from taking effect.
First, if you have anything from that person, throw it away. Then forgive them with words, declare the curse broken, confess that you are blessed in Christ, and command every demon to leave your life.
Yes, negative and destructive words can be sent through text or email. The same spiritual power applies, so you should reject and break those words in Jesus' name just as you would spoken curses.
Your protection comes from living righteously before God with active, costly obedience—not average obedience. If there is no open door in your life, no curse can land.
Numbers 30 shows that God gives fathers and husbands authority to void careless vows or negative words spoken in their household when they hear them. They can break those words so they do not stand.
