Freakier Friday (with Jinkx Monsoon) | 65

The podcast explores the emotional and cultural depth of the film *Freakier Friday*, a modern reboot of the classic *Freaky Friday* that features Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as a single mother and daughter navigating family conflict. The discussion highlights heartfelt moments, especially around maternal bonds and teenage identity, while critiquing the movie’s outdated humor and fashion choices. The conversation expands into broader cultural themes, such as the importance of LGBTQ+ representation, through a deep dive into the show *Hunting Wives*, which portrays women who embrace guns, faith, and independence. A central focus is on actress Jinx Monsoon’s powerful performance in the Broadway play *O'Mary*, celebrated for its feminist themes and complex portrayal of a woman with hidden strength and identity. The hosts emphasize that women’s stories—especially those involving motherhood, self-discovery, and resistance—are vital and must be seen and validated. Throughout, there’s a strong undercurrent of personal vulnerability, with participants reflecting on their own emotional journeys, including imposter syndrome, queer identity, and the need to challenge toxic norms in media and society. The conversation closes with a call for more inclusive, authentic storytelling that empowers women and reflects their lived experiences across generations.

I'd say we're about to get pretty locked the fuck in. I'm ready. We've got business today. Truly. We really do. We've got Jinx Monsoon coming on the pod. Thank God. Period. We'll be talking to Omeri. We also must discuss, we asked the voters at home if we should talk about the hunting wives. Yes. So, you know, you asked. Well, you didn't really ask. We were just like, I think we have to go deeper. Yeah. Oh, deeper. Sorry. Ew. Is that a gun in your pocket or are you just happy to see me? I really hated that, by the way. Okay. Well, let's start with a safer, a safer ground here. And I'm ready. A little freakier, a little Friday. Ew. Ugh. Okay. 22 years after Tess and Anna endured an identity crisis, Anna now has a daughter and a soon to be stepdaughter. As they navigate the challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might strike twice. Do you like the way I said that? Mm. The cast includes Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto, Vanessa Bayer, Chloe Fineman, Sophia Hammons, and then obviously. Of course, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. First of all, I loved it. Yeah. Second of all, Jamie Lee Curtis was put on this earth to play Dr. Tess Coleman, and it's unfortunate for us that we have to. That 92% of her life is spent doing anything else. Yeah. Selling some Activia, too. I like Activia yogurt. Anyway. Okay. Okay. That was old of me. I. Okay. Seeing this movie really unlocked a core memory of mine that I truly, Freaky Friday soundtrack would platinum. Of course. In my house. Of course. I'm telling you, I listened to all that little punk pop, punk pop rock. Yeah? Yeah. I did. You did? What else did you listen to? Your punk pop rock. Well, obviously, Lindsay Lohan's album, and obviously, Hilary Duff's album, and a lot of My Chemical Romance, and a lot of Pinning at the Disco. Okay. Okay. You're right. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. So, what else? Well, you played Daughter to Father once, and you said, she tore. She ate that. Great song, actually. I don't know why. I'm tired of rumors starting. What was your original. Like, original movie kind of memories, lore? For the original Freaky Friday? Yeah. Oop. So, not off book, I would say. So, you're really. No, no. I'm thinking about it. I'm trying to think of, like, what's my, like, first reaction, and it's probably what, like, started a lot of my mommy issues. Really? Yeah, and I love that that through line was kept into this movie. Like, I was horny for Chad Michael Murray being down bad for Jamie Lee Curtis. Especially when she's, like, riding on the back of his motorcycle, and, like, his little buzz cut. Listen, we've talked about a buzz cut. He. Wait. Did he have a buzz cut in that first movie? I think so. I thought his hair was long. I don't think so. Was it? Maybe I'm imagining it. I wouldn't mind Chad Michael Murray with a buzz cut, for real, for real. Okay, well, then cut this, and let me double check. Wait, I'm cracking up. Keep this, because you know who you're thinking about with the buzz cut? It's Jamie Lee Curtis. Oh, you're right. His hair was long, and he had those crazy highlights. His hair was long. Her hair was short. Lesbian. You said, one of those haircuts really resonated with me, and it's, like, the dyke-iest haircut I've ever seen. It got her when a woman had spikes in her hair, and the ear piercing and all that. I was like, oh, this is hot, and, like, this is, like, the mom I want to be. Like, that was. Or the mom I want to fuck. Yeah, and that one shot of her walking with the shopping bags in slow-mo in that dress that they bring back. Yes, did a ton. We should also say spoiler alert. Oh, spoiler alert. We haven't spoiled anything yet, though, to be fair. No, just the dress comes back up, and that's fun. That should just entice you more to go to the theater. Truly. Okay. I. Maybe it's, like, birthday. It's a weekend. But I cried three times. Cried three times during Freaky Year Friday. Three? Did. And almost cried a fourth walking out of the theater, because I was so moved. God forbid I am Saoirse Ronan in Little Women. Oh, my God. I just feel women. Women's stories matter. They just matter. They do. Okay, so the setup in this movie is that Lindsay Lohan is single mom, works two jobs. Loves her kids. Never stops. Punk star in her, like, previous life. And then, like, now record label executive manager in this life. And loves her daughter. She meets Manny Jacinto. And he has a daughter. They want to get married and, like, blend families. But the two daughters hate each other. Which I like how this was, like, almost exactly the plot of the original in some ways. Where it's, like, we're blending families. Jamie Kurtz is getting married to hot, hot, haughty dad. And Lindsay Lohan is, like, really resistant because, like, she's still loyal to her deceased father. And just, like, really sad about, like. Still the loss. But I thought that was, like, such a smart turn on, like, saying true to the original movie. But not, like, a complete, just, like, full remake. Yeah. Especially because we can see how, like, the Jamie Lee Curtis, Lindsay Lohan dynamic has, like, gone into adulthood. Where she is, like, okay, mom, you do kind of get on my nerves a lot of the time. Like, I do love you. But it's, like, you are pretty overbearing. And also in real life as well. I did have a moment where I thought that the daughters were going to have, like, a enemies-to-lovers pipeline. And why would you think that? Have you met a teen? They're pretty gay. Have you seen the teens? It's only on Gossip Girl that you're allowed to, like, be kissing with, like, your parents' lover's child. No, I had to remember, like, wait, this is not the CW. Hold on. Hold on. Get me out of the CW brain. This is not Riverdale. Like, but I thought that was going to happen for a minute. And then I came back down to Earth. I thought that. I do not like Jamie Lee Curtis as a person. She simply is a star in this film. Yeah. Also, let's wake this conversation up. When did she get that rack? Oh, yes. Jamie Lee Curtis' tits sit. Actually, you know what? She's had it. I mean, her body's always been T, but I didn't realize it was that T. That T-ful. And I'm going to say this, why I feel like this. Because I watched this, like, Jamie Lee Curtis movie from, like, the 1980s called Love Letters on Criterion. It was really good. But she had a great, great rack in that movie. I did not realize. I did not realize that's what she was working with. I mean, okay, the one thing, one of the things that upset me, it was a very, it's a very kooky movie. You know, and I'm a kooky girl. I'm a zany bitch. But it was a little much for me sometimes. Really? And, like, that surprises me. That surprises me. What do you mean? No, I thought the jokes about, like, old people not being able to use technology, like, all the kids. Like, the food fight stuff. I was like, this is high. This is DCOM original movie, okay? The food fight when the mime says it and then the guy says it. It's like this fucking movie. No, it's that. All of that stuff. It almost, it felt so true to, like, the early 2000s, like, kind of she's the man, like, pranks, gags. There's only one, you know, little runner in this that I didn't, just kind of felt a little bit out of place, like, not fully realized by the end. And it was the, like, pop star of it all. Oh, yeah. Where, like, Jamie, like, Lindsay Lohan, like, is, like, manager for big pop stars, like, going through a big breakup, da-da-da-da. And, like, that's fine. But it almost felt like there's, like, some piece of that storyline that's, like, missing. Yeah. I like that girl, though. She's from Never Have I Ever, right? Totally. I really liked her. But it just, you know, it kind of felt a little bit random to me. Also, like, duh, if your mom works with, like, the biggest pop star in the world, like, hello. I would be, like, I have a cool mom. Well, that's funny. That's funny to me because I was thinking, like, that in current day would make her, like, the most popular girl in school. Yeah. If the biggest pop star, you know, like, all of her friends were at that concert. Yeah. Versus, like, a rich girl from London actually feels a little bit dated. Yeah. I think the thing that also felt dated or just very fucking. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It was really confusing. The styling in Freakier Friday was fucked up. It was. The costume choices were crazy. Yeah. Criminal, in fact. Yeah. Yeah. And I think because we all want to talk, talk, talk, talk, talk about Devil Wears Prada 2 costumes and who was on their Zoom for the Freakier Friday costume storyboarding because it looked crazy. There was a point where it was actually distracting me when Jamie Lee Curtis had two tiny pink ponytails on the top of her head. Yeah. And also. Take those off. For a movie where it's, like, the. Like, one of the daughter characters wants to be fashion designer. And I'm like, this is what you're doing. I don't know if it's your calling, sister. It's not going to work out. I'm not calling you in. I'm not calling you out. I'll call her out. I hated it. Another reason I cried in this was, like, there's something with the first movie that I thought was maybe the strongest part where you really get a sense of, like, the mom understanding that her daughter has been, like, is, like, not crazy. Has been telling her the truth this whole time. Yeah. Her teacher does have it out for her. Does hate her. That same teacher. The mean girl at school really is mean to her. Yeah. And that's why they're not friends anymore. And I felt like that was, like, a little bit lacking in this. Like, we really understand. Like, the girls understand the mothers. But there wasn't quite. It wasn't as pronounced. Like, the mothers understand, like, the girls as much. And, like, what they go through at school. It's more present in, like, what they go through with each other. And, like, wanting, like, the decision, like, whether they will move to London or whatever. And that was, like, really what made me cry is that, like, wow, I really don't want to, like, break my mom's heart and, like, mess up her marriage. And also, wow, my daughter, like, really does. I feel, like, a strong connection to, like, her home. And I can't take that from her. Yeah. Quick spoiler, I guess. I mean, we kind of said that before. We already gave the spoiler. Okay, great. But when. Okay, great. Okay, great. Moving on. But when she finds out the song is about her, that's when I cried. You know I don't play that, Alicia. I said, oh, yeah. That hit home. And then. That was serious. Because for a moment, I was, like, wait, but then, like, Lindsay Lohan needs to have her moment on stage. Yeah. Like, when they switch back just in time. I was, like. Talking about. Talking about her moment on stage, the little white emo girl and Tyena, they aged very well. Oh, the other. I loved their return. The band members. Yes. Yes. Her real name is not Tyena. It was at. Did you watch Tyena? No. You didn't watch Tyena? No. It was that show on Nick. Oh, wait. But, you know. Tyena. I remember her from Team Puppet Suds. Brink. Brink. That decom. Yes, that's what I remember her from. Lesbian movie. Yeah. Oh, my God. Wow, that movie really did that. And Rocket Power really made me gay. What makes you think? - Well, anyway, to bring it back to freakier friends. Friday. Actually, I'm going to say something really straight. Let's talk about Manny. Let's talk about my man, my man, my man, my man, my man. Your Manny, dare I say. It was right there. That's crazy. Okay. You got me. What a zinger. Watching him dance. I mean, I love a Filipino man, but like watching him bump and grind and do his little numbers. Why did you say that? You know why I said it. Lumpia, I ate it every day. We all know. And if you don't know, you don't need to know. It's not yours to learn. But I love him. And I also dance background confirmed. Oh my God. I didn't realize he was a dancer before he was an actor. And I love when they sneak that in. He was like, I do have something on my resume, on my CV, if you will, that we could throw into the mix. I will say accent work. Might not have been in that. Well, that's okay. But it's, I love a pretty face. That's okay. I love a man. Yeah. I also love, okay, I love this runner that like Freaky Friday, Freakier Friday. These are movies about hot dads. Because the dad in the first movie, the stepdad. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Mark Harmon, very hot. Manny Jacinto in this, also very hot. Yeah. That does a lot for me. Not to platform a man, but. That can happen with Manny. I think I would platform him. Yeah. I have to also platform hot moms. Oh, totally. This is a movie about hot mothers for me and hot fathers. No, I mean, it's also, it's first a movie about hot mothers. And then second a movie about hot dads. And then, and you're like, you see, okay, also about hot dads. Yeah. Because representation matters. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, something we haven't really talked too much about is Lindsay Lohan. The Lindsay Lohan of it all. The Lindsay Lohan renaissance of it all. I mean, it's been happening for a while, ever since Irish Wish. So it's like, you know, she's been on the up and up. But like, I love seeing her on my screen. I also, her face looks incredible. It does. And I love her as a redhead. Like that, like the true red. In some parts of the movie, she's like a little bit too blonde for me. Like the real like red hair when she was at the beach, when she was surfing. Also the fact that she was taking secret surfing lessons to impress her daughter. So sweet. Okay. Lindsay Lohan, Matt Rushmore movies. Okay. Go. Okay. Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. The costuming there. Let's talk about cunt. Let's talk about camp. And I love a liar. And who was that look for? I don't know. And then Mean Girls, of course. Um, life size. Yes. She's done a lot of queer films. And then, not the whole movie, but an epic Lindsay Lohan scene is that one scene in Georgia Rule, where she chases after those girls bullying her, hops out of the car, and is like, if you mess with me again, I will fuck your boyfriends stupid. Remember that scene? I've actually never seen Georgia Rule. Oh my god, that's so good. You would love Georgia Rule. You love stories about motherhood. I know, but that's so fucking crazy. Because, like, an audio that's probably going to be really playing in the TikTok audience and playing in a loop in my head is like, consider your nigga fucked. That's basically what she said to these white girls. I know. And then walked away and goes, have a great summer. It's a perfect, I'll send it to you. It's a perfect scene. Love it. Love it. Oh, she's adorable. Okay, you remember that scene. Was that five? Oh, I thought there was only four heads on that mountain. Girl, I don't know. Wow. Okay, I'm going to say exact same, except for instead of Georgia Rule, because I haven't seen it. Yeah. Um, how to say parent trap? Oh, yeah. Yeah. I don't have that, like, deep attachment to parent trap the way a lot of people do. I don't know. I don't know. I don't children on divorce do. Interesting. You've never thought Dennis Quaid was hot then? No. Well, not anymore. Well, he lost it. So what can you say? Jamie Lee Curtis, Mount Rushmore, go. Got the camera. How long? No. Okay. So this week we're talking about the hunting wives and are joined by Jinx Monsoon to talk about O'Mary. So let me say this. Let me say this. Are you looking for a home for your worst opinion? Are you a hater first, but a lover of pop culture second? Consider this a glorified group chat, but we're not calling you out. No, no, no, no. We're calling you in. It's a safe space to talk shit. But of course, from Wondery, I'm Peyton Diggs. And I'm Hunter Harris. And this is Let Me Say This. Let me say this. Let me say this. Do you know what that was? A gun? Mm-hmm. Because we're talking about the hunting wives. Thank God. Finally. Okay. So what I've been describing this show as based on a novel by Mary Cobb, but it's like scissoring, MAGA, open marriage wives. Mm-hmm. Meets sharp objects. Mm-hmm. Or like a little bit of like season one of Big Little Lies. Mm-hmm. Like it becomes like a whodunit. Absolutely. But also it becomes like a real culture, like a zoom in to the lives of women who love guns, love God, and love their husbands. And love pussy. Oh, totally. Well, both. Two things to be true at once. Bisexuals exist most days. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. So it was between you and a host from one of our friends. And I was like, okay, got to lock in. And I did. And I'm going to say, spoiler alert, now we will talk about spoilers, because Brittany Snow, what's her character's name? Sophie? Sure. I need my sister to stop drinking and driving. It is always a mistake. It is always a recipe for disaster when this girl gets on the bottle and behind the wheel. In most cases, yes, it's always an issue. No, for, I would say for anyone. For every case, it's an issue. For anyone, but especially for her. I'm like, we've got high body count whenever she gets a little bit of that liquor and starts powering up that Tesla. I was about to be like, me too, in a different way, but that's too much. It's okay for the show. To be clear, no. Yeah. Yeah. Like my body count sexually. I understood that, but I don't want people to think that you drink and drive because you actually do drive. I do. As a, I'm just driving curious. I drive. I'm good at driving, actually. Rarely. I don't believe. Anyway. Yeah, because you're from LA. Thank you. Well. I know, I know, I know. Okay. Okay. Let's start with wigs. Which one? I'm going to say all of them. So you want to start at the bottom and work our way to the top. Okay. Let's do it. Let's go for it. I, okay. So the wigs on my sister, Brittany Snow, her clip-ins, I was like, eh. But my sister, Malin Ackerman. Malin, mother. That was rare. Rough. What happened? That was rough. Although I do think. The real crime. The real crime in the show. With the red hair, I could see her, and I say this with love, being turned away from the tree pain biopic in favor of Amy Adams. I think she could, I think she could be like in the running. Okay. Sorry. I had to take it there. Yeah. I was like, you know, I have nothing to say about that. Yeah. Great. The other women too was like a lot of, it's like almost, it's not like the high hair, like from like really Southern debutante stuff, but it was just like. Okay. So where is the part and where is the hairline? Cause I'm really not seeing either. But there, Malin has that friend in it, the one with the bust down. I don't mind her. I don't mind her. And I don't mind her topping her husband. Representation, spoiler, whatever, topping happens. God forbid. But I love watching a woman strap a man down. I think that we needed to see that on TV. We didn't need to see that one random loose dick that comes into frame. Oh, I finished. I finished the series. Oh yeah. Oh, of course. Well, what was crazy, this man opens the door, butt naked. Dick out. And it's like, why do we have to see that four different times? Why is it cut back to this? There was no need. Sorry, this is about women. This is women's business. I'm like the aerial in the front, keep it there. It was a lot, even for me. And I'm obviously, I'm pro nipple, by the way, if you haven't guessed it about me, but the dick actually, I said, well, that's where I've had enough. Not like the 1400 murders and insane copy in this show. A lot of murders in this show. Oh, so, no, like, like every time. You watch, you press hunting, you press play on hunting wives and you say, wow, couldn't get crazier than this. Oh, it does. And they walk into a kitchen with a dead body. I was like, girl, who's going to be left in this town when they're, when they're through that? No wonder everyone has a gun. Everyone has to die. Everyone gets got it's basically, it's so crazy. Oh, but I have so much fun. All the vehicular manslaughter though, really did keep, I was like, dang again, there's so many ways to die in the hunting wives. They have nothing new. Nothing changed. It was unreal. You know what I want to talk about? How this is Brittany snow. Oh, Brittany snow. I love her in a queer role. Yeah. And you might think this is our first one. No, no, no, no, no. Because were you with me when we were watching that one pitch perfect scene in the shower? You know, David Guetta? Yeah. Bulletproof. And then in, um, John Tucker must die with now known Sophia Bush, huge lesbian now. Oh, that was also a moment where they practice kissing many such cases. Sophia Bush, sexy voice, very sexy voice. Yeah. She did some voice work in Incredibles two, I think. And it was really good. She made some choices in life, but in, you know, that's how, what cheating and affair. Oh, I know. You're not about to say anything lower. Hey, Hey, Hey. Oh my God. And he, what was I going to talk about? She's scrambling girl. Mixing cards. Okay. Okay. She was also, she was also really gay in hairspray because I think it's pretty queer to have a crush on Zac Efron. And it's also kind of gay to be a bully and she did both. So bare minimum buy. Hmm. So keep it up, Brittany. So she's good at playing a Like, I love Brittany Snow. Name your favorite Brittany Snow movie. I don't know why I bucked up like that. Well, The Pacifier, I think. That's your favorite, Brittany? Not Pitch Perfect? No, I wasn't really a Pitch Perfect girl. Really? That's my mom's favorite movie. Really? You know those. Come on. We love Alicia, but let's be real. That actually does shock me. Okay, I need to have a moment for people, i.e. me, who started watching Hunting Wise and then had to press pause and turn on the comeback. Yeah. The comeback on HBO, the Lisa Kudrow, iconic, iconic show that also Malin Ackerman is in. And I was like, I got to just see. That's Juna. I got to go back to like, what was it called? Room and Board. I've got to revisit the comeback. I have not watched the comeback, but I need to. And is the comeback coming back? It is. Okay, well, perfect reason. Iconic, season one, 10 years. Season two, 10 years. Now, forthcoming, season three. Yep, and no more Hunting Wise because everyone's dead. Not everyone. Not yet. There could be a season. Season two, couldn't there? I have to see if Dermot Mulroney gets to be president of whatever the fuck. Yeah, he's fine. Of the town council. He's sexy. He is. He is. Okay, season two. Give it to us. Green light it. Come on. Oh, my God. Okay, okay, okay. Anything else you wanted to share? About watching Hunting Wise and then pausing? Anything else you wanted to bring to the people? Cover your ears if you are in a car with family. Representation matters. Okay. And I have to be honest because I did the artist's way. And so my truth is I was like, these crazy lesbians, this nuts show, the Hunting Wise is insane. And then I did pull out my vibrator. And you know when you sometimes like, sorry, mom, dad, but sometimes when you, they're not listening, when you come and you're like, that wasn't right. Okay, we got it. Okay, sorry. Sorry. No. It's a family podcast. Yeah. Sorry. This is like an all-out. Maybe we take it out on that. Okay. My goodness. It wasn't right. It wasn't right, but it like had to be done. Someone had to do it. Stronger than the troops. It had to be done. It had to be done. Legally. Someone out there is like, thank you, Peyton, for standing on business. For the first time in history. Most people out there are like, take her mic away. I love a key. And that's what we're getting into right now. We're already in it. We're already up. The key has begun. With us today, we have Jinx Monsoon, who is an actress and currently starring on Broadway in O'Mary, only eight days after closing Pirates. Yeah. So, we love a working woman. Yeah. Nobody wants to work anymore. We have a very important question that we ask everyone who comes on the show. Do you consider yourself a lover or a hater? I consider myself a lover with a hater rising. Love. Because I do have a dark side to me. Yeah. And, you know, she serves her purposes. But I've learned to let her out when absolutely necessary. And a big part of, like, learning that control is quitting drinking. Because your darkness slips out. Wait. That's. Totally. Every woman needs a darkness to her. Yeah. I think. Well, it's the only way to survive, honestly. Yeah. Yeah. In this economy. In this economy. With the terrorists. With the terrorists. With the terrorists. You need a dark side. Are you a. Follow-up question. Are you a lover or hater of presidential assassinations? What's the context? You know, I really grapple with this. Because it seems like, so far, none of the bad ones have ever successfully. been assassinated, right? It's only been ones that were trying to cause positive change. So it kind of makes me wonder, like, what's going on that. Yeah. Only the nice guys get assassinated. Like, anyway. But it's such a loaded topic. Because that's, like, in play right now. You know what I mean? True. Very in trend. We're like, ooh, hot topic. Assassinations. Assassinations. Oh, I thought you were going to ask a follow-up. Oh, it's hot. No. No, now I'm afraid. Why? Why? No, it's just me. It's just, hey, it's just us girls, okay? We can talk about assassinations openly here, all right? Well, it's a safe and brave space. Yeah. It's a safe and brave space for women with dark sides, which is what we just said. But, well, we can skip it. Okay. Yeah, yeah. All right. Now you're like, what the fuck was I? Was it a dark one? No. We were like, so let's go back to your relationship with your mother. All right. We obviously want to talk about O'Mary. We saw you on August 6th. You started August 4th. And we'd both seen the play before. You'd seen it before, right? Yes. Yeah. You rocked our world. Oh, thanks for that. No, I'm an evangelist. I'm telling everyone I know, go see O'Mary. Yeah, yeah. I feel like it's also one of those plays that you don't have to say anything past that. Like, go see it. You're welcome in advance. It's actually so much better that way, because I went to see it knowing nothing about it, just that cola's cola. The cola wrote and starred in it. And this was when it was off-Broadway. And that night was just, I mean, I've been saying this to anyone who will listen, but I told Cole that night off-Broadway, take this role and this show and do absolutely everything you can with it. Yeah. Get everything you can out of it. And only then call me, because I'd love to play this role. Yeah. Like, I, the second, I mean, we were 20 minutes into the show, and I was like, this is such a brilliantly written show that I already know how I'd play everything differently, and it would completely work. And that wasn't to say, like, I should play this role. It was more like, when the writing is so good, and if you look at the shows that have stayed around for a long time, it's because the themes are universal, they still apply today, and the writing is so good that you. You can put multiple people in multiple roles, and it shifts the perspective and tells a whole new story without having to change the language or the direction. Yeah. And honestly, the language and the direction is tense across the board. Across the board, period. I wish I saw it with Titus, too. I didn't get to see that run, just to, like, I would watch this over and over and over again just to see what people do with it. That's the thing, and that's what makes, in my opinion, that's. That's what a really good script does. Yeah. Because when a script relies on a certain actor, and that actor is the only person who can do that script, then it's like, okay, well, that's a good script for that person. But Cole wrote a good script, period. Yeah. Yeah. And we love them. But what was the audition process like? They called me, and I said, yeah. Period. Oh, period. Say that. Say that. Say that. And every camera, please. It was like this. I don't like to. Oh, gosh. Anyway, I had finished my Carnegie Hall show. Yeah. And my agents took me out to lunch, and I told them I absolutely have to take August off. And I was stern about this. I was like, I have not taken any time off, and I have to take August off to get through the rest of the year with my holiday tour with Vinda LeCrim, which is very important to me. Mm-hmm. And I said, the only. The only exception I will make is if O'Mary calls. And they looked at each other, and then looked at me, and they said, well, we wanted to tell you, O'Mary called. Oh, yeah. And I was like, okay, start the negotiation. So I knew in the end that it was very likely that I was just going to keep powering through. But I couldn't have meant it more. Like, there's. When something just feels kismet and cosmic, it would be so silly not to go full throttle with it. You know? What sign are you, I wonder, by the way? Virgo. Virgo. Thank God. Virgo. Cancer rising. Okay. Leo moon. Leo moon. We've got some representation here. I know. It's a nice chart, right? It's a good three. It's a healthy three. Wow. She's a Leo. I'm a Virgo rising. I'm a Virgo rising, too. No, I'm a Virgo moon. That sounds harder. Sun? Taurus. Taurus. Thank you. I get along great with Leos and Taurans. Taurus. Tauri. Tauri. Yeah, I don't know if that's the word, actually. I just had to check, because I almost pinned Aquarius answer, but. Well, I live with an Aquarius who's my best friend, and I've picked up a lot of traits. Oh, okay. Yeah. I've taken on the lifestyle a little bit. Can you tell us about how you got into character as O'Mary? I read that you're kind of inspired by Emma Stone in Poor Things, like a shade of that. Yeah. More than a shade. I feel like I saw that movie only recently for this very reason, because I describe my Mary as someone with all the upbringing of a very refined woman, but everything she's been taught is just to be a wife, so she doesn't have any real skills outside of that. She doesn't have much education. beyond being a mother and a wife but um she taught herself how to sing and i can't give too much away about the plot but like you know i i play with the idea that all of her hidden talents are things she taught herself and in that is where her agency lives so um you know i feel like that i feel like most of my strength comes from who i am on stage because that's where life makes the most sense to me these days um so what i've been saying is mary my mary todd is an adult woman with a baby brain and that's essentially what poor things is and i've been dissecting that movie since i saw it you know like i immediately loved it and then i started thinking why do i love it and is it is it good that i love it and i this is how i handle movies i like i think about them way too hard for way too long yeah i did do a little bit of like so where does my feminism lie often not on the right side of history if we're just being okay sue me i don't care um you know i want to talk about your dressing room is there anything in there that would surprise us or anything that feels really special to you well um it was decorated by amy sedaris who is just a demigod on earth and um so there's a lot of quirks like a big old-fashioned tin condoms container and it just says condoms really big apparently that was that's like my favorite thing in the room and it was cole's least favorite thing in the room but but originally when i came in it was all light pink light bulbs yeah but i like really dim lighting so i changed out the light bulbs what i like to do is like one of every color like a rainbow of light bulbs and then just one that gives off like real light and that's what i hate the one i do my makeup um but it just looks like a witch moved into uh you know a really well decorated airbnb oh love it's so queer to love like anyone that turns on so you're loving this you know this bright light anyone that turns on an overhead light i'm like you're so you're straight you and you've got to be careful yeah but i hate overhead lighting too okay ally ally thank you i um i it's just like i don't know when you turn on multiple lights in a room it looks so intentional it looks like i have decided to make the lighting a part of my storytelling in this room an overhead light just is you utilitarian it's like in the theater we call it work lights yeah you know what i mean and that's all i use overhead lighting for oh i gotta screw in something turn on the work light no it keeps nine to five and i don't i don't want corporate culture in my home i don't like fluorescent i don't want to hear a buzz no are you like a candle bitch though would you do oh yeah well which i am i have a bad history with forgetting to blow them out okay i do put them in the safest place to put them in the safest place to put them in the safest place to put them in the possible because of this but i've got a bad track record so i try not to light candles um unless my very lovely friend assistant is around because he goes behind me you need a safety for it okay got it i have a um speaking of queer things uh what other political figures do you think in history might be gay well there's a lot of speculation of homosexuality in um royalty yeah and if we look at what we are seeing today with the exorbitantly wealthy and how they just in front of us create their own rules yeah and just behave like raging hypocrites but then pay people off to leave them alone about it it's like okay so wealthy people have probably always lived the way they feel like doing even though they imposed things on other people yeah so i'm guessing there were a lot of gay kings and queens that we just don't know about but you know it all gets rewritten so who even knows anymore but i have to think that i'm i know i've thought about this before i mean like queen elizabeth had to be by at the very least like at a bare minimum i mean she yeah like she had to have some dom-top energy to do what she did you know what i mean and i've always said that no i see that okay you don't think marie antoinette was by um you said political figures and i'm thinking like 300 years ago i think um i don't know in recent history i think um it's pretty i just wish justin trudeau were at least trans amorous you know like he seems pretty down oh yeah yeah i don't know what goes down in canada but i feel like i've spent some time in canada there are a lot of people who are pretty books fly to canada okay um are you watching the hunting wise anyways that like reminded me any of those words the hunting wise oh gosh no no that's okay i hate that's okay i know i am so pathetic when it comes to consuming current day coke culture especially tv when i go home i play my video games for a little bit i watch a episode or two of cheers okay the bar where everyone knows that's what i'm on right now um but i i like to watch shows i've already watched or like remember from my years that calms me down and then i'm ready for bed but i do keep up with horror and some um superhero movies like i'm ready for bed but i do keep up with horror and some um superhero movies like i'm like i like marvel the only news tv i've watched in the last two years is agatha all along you want to talk about that what you're saying just reminded me of themes in the hunting wives so it's just like republican scissoring like a ton like that's pretty much they create you know i mean that's what's so freaking wild it's like okay so take someone like caitlyn jenner who had this moment where she like kicked open a door yeah and then walked through it and we watched you all try to slam it behind her and that's essential and we just were like okay so gobble gobble not one of us get out of here you know like it's like that's how the ultra rich behave it's like once they cross the threshold for themselves they're like oh my god then they close it behind them and that's just not how we're gonna survive totally quite literally yeah yeah yeah yeah so we kind of kick the door open right now yeah we need to obliterate the doors yeah we need to stop opening them and just freaking battery ran out ram them you know we need to take a bazooka to those doors and destroy the frame that they were built in you know yeah we should have those doors we should have those doors we should have those doors we should have those do you remember the um the little dangly what are the wait is that what they're really called hippie beads that's the only thing i don't know i don't know their government name i just know that i love it no i love them online to make outfits out of them my dolly parton look on all stars seven was made with door beads we all the beads on my dress because we couldn't afford to you know yeah my god what she did which was hand sewn glass beads everywhere so we just used a bunch of uh door bead i'm the power of yes yes i love it is there any moment in history that you would like have wanted to be present for well i like to say that it only very recently became safe for me to exist so i also have thought about this and i um i would love to live in the 1700s in the french court pre-revolution as an ultra wealthy trans woman you know we have to talk about what body would i be in when i go back because it's like there's this part of me that's like i have always had this weird familiarity with the 20s and 30s and the vaudeville era and the burlesque era probably because that's what drag queens do today you know you look at our careers and you look at what burlesque entertainers did in the 30s and that we're doing the same stuff you know and we can pick up our show and go on the road with it because it's just us you know and um i thought about if i went back there how the hell would i not get murdered immediately you know i mean we asked a similar question time travel is not something the visibly queer i think think about the same yeah no it's like when people tell me they love a sock hop i'm like i don't know we wouldn't have been on the same side of it so those questions are loaded i i i think i'm thinking more into the future these days i'm thinking more like i would love to go so far into the future that the issues we're dealing with um that we've always dealt with really like if you look back in our recorded history we're dealing with the same shit it's taken 2 000 plus years to learn nothing yeah you know our technology evolves but our way to communicate doesn't it's it's mind-boggling so i i like to think you know because every decade we take a step forward that can't be denied you know like i wouldn't be who i am right now if we weren't taking steps forward but it's like a two steps forward one step back system that we don't have time for anymore like we ran out our own clock yeah with our treatment of the planet so i'm more interested to see do we ever figure it out or is this it you know and i don't like to think that pessimistically i like to think me being here right now is how we avoid that you know like i think of everyone i know who is actively working to put out positive vibrations that people can take and pay forward that's the only remedy we have because like i don't have three trillion dollars to fight this you know oh you don't oh broadway is different there's a lot of people who are like i don't have three trillion dollars to fight this this is a loner we'll get some no um you know speaking of uh you did a great interview with z-way and of moments particularly went viral where you let's say cleared jk rowling did you expect that kind of response and for it to go as big as it did i never expect anything i do to get any response i got so used to doing things that i thought was brilliant and just no one saw it you know that now that people see it i i'm always shocked you know i'm still like i can't believe people are still talking about my judy garland snatch game because i was very proud of that but i didn't know it was gonna you know be the thing for the next four years three years of my life that i talk about incessantly but i love talking about it so it's no big deal but the z-way interview i was like there was a time in my life i was so terrified of z-way because i did not believe i could match her confidence and the energy she brings to an interview and when i got the call to do it i was like i'm ready now i just felt like i don't know you know when you know you when you're proud of yourself from the inside out it's easier to trust yourself and that's the biggest thing i give myself these days that i was lacking in the past is like the imposter syndrome is getting quieter and quieter um and as a virgo i need objective facts to point at and say this is why the imposter syndrome doesn't get to tell me what to do anymore because you know enough people i like and respect are telling me good job kid you know so z-way is she's become a fast friend yeah and i just think she's another goddess on earth like we're so lucky that's so beautiful i love like the imposter syndrome getting quieter and quieter you have to eventually quiet it down or you'll never know you'll never appreciate when you actually make it to your goal like i had set broadway as the goal for myself as a kid and so when i made it there as soon as i started second guessing myself i was like are you telling yourself broadway's not even good enough you know like you can't even take a moment to pat yourself on the back you made it where you said you wanted to make it at five years old and now and now you're picking it apart and i had to just like start to freaking relax you know yeah yeah have you done the artist's way the artist's way have you do you know what it is i feel like something is pinging in my brain oh good here she goes she's like the witch's road am i gonna basically in the best way oh my god it's like a self-help book by julia yes i have heard of this book i most likely own more than one copy i think i might have read chapters from it in college but um uh you know i used to drink heavy so memories get kind of like wooshy yeah yeah well there's a lot of um similar language too in terms of like if you are or someone that is an a.a. it's a little bit different but a lot of similar language to that that can feel um helpful for some people but i do i'm almost positive now i've read parts of it yeah i don't know that i read the whole book that's fine you don't really have to enough now but memories are i'm like john wilson's performance art history class it's coming back to me it was a very um artist's way type answer but yeah i don't know she loves the artist's way type answer but yeah i don't know she loves the artist's way type answer you know i was trained in a lot of different schools of theater yeah and i was also trained at my school to self-generate work so if i use language that sounds familiar it's probably because i was taught it at some point and now i forget which is the stuff i got taught in college and which is the stuff i learned along the way yeah lately i just say it all goes into the blender last question rank these redheads for us please reba mcintyre prince harry marcia cross victoria from twilight and julianne moore okay um one more time the list reba mcintyre prince harry marcia cross victoria from twilight and julianne moore okay so i'm gonna do julianne moore is one perfect thank you two is reba three is um marcia marcia marcia cross marcia cross who's marcia cross she's from desperate housewives oh wow open the school oh my god i'm keeping her at three prince harry at four and um i mean he's just guilty by association yeah let's round up but i like that he's like you know he's trying to undo right is he still trying to undo it i feel like he's just on swirl twitter now okay well he's just at beyonce yeah with megan four and then anything twilight is five for me but my mom's gonna be so upset is she my mom my mom loves the twilight series am i your mother yes my mom my mom is an astounding woman i love her so much she we haven't always had a she's an interesting lady when when i came out to her about um when i told her i was going to begin my medical transition i told her i believe i might be undiagnosed intersex and she said as if well you know i'm intersex i'm like no mother no i do i feel like it would have come up between us before and she said yeah i found out two years ago and she said yeah i found out two years ago i have a testicle and and you know up here and i was like so you found that you had a testicle and you sat on it for two years before you knew i was going through no you didn't call you didn't write no that joke um so yeah no uh my mom loves twilight and vaping wow oh my god wait your mom is a beautiful woman yeah well thank you so much for coming on jinx where can everyone follow you oh uh you uh at the jinx on instagram and then everything else is at jinx monsoon i believe there's i don't know google it i believe now these days if you google me it'll just link you and everything but just it's jinx monsoon but it's spelled j-i-n-k-x don't forget the k i paid extra for it so please use it thank you so much and go see oh mary and go see oh mary you know what i'm gonna say it was my birthday hello duh wake it up it's my birthday sorry i really fucked it up i know i didn't mean to do that i'm sorry i thought it would be like a cunty little tap and then stop tapping more oh i'm getting in trouble now everyone's got a gun in my head it's a hunting wives all over again oh my gosh okay well why don't you tell me how my birthday party was yeah because because i don't remember i just remember you coming up to rachel being like eyes closed being like i think it's time to go so i think so too my sister i was like good for her and i knew and i knew i said it's i gotta go home now i'm a working mother yeah i gotta go home and see my baby um okay but i do have to i need to shake the table a little bit okay i need to i need to declare martial law not how that works actually but whatever but i do think if you are rsvp-ing for someone's birthday if you cancel if you like can't go for whatever reason valid or not valid if you can't go within like five or six hours don't text the person the host being like i can't come unless unless it's like a dinner party where it's like okay you like there's like a place setting for you or something like that other than that just text the next morning and be like hey i'm so sorry like something came up the last minute because and i really believe this and it like it's actually hurting my feelings i think that if people cancel before the party and they like bring that to you it's like they just want you to like make them feel better about bailing yes a hundred percent and it's like no i'm not gonna do that yeah i'm really not it doesn't affect your night because it's not like you have to update the reservation it's not like you have to call like call to change things so it's just it's solely selfish yeah i couldn't agree more i and again i think this applies if like you truly like have something else to come up that's like so important and like normal or if you just truly are like bailing and both are fine but like don't bring that to me the day before or the day of yeah because it's just i don't like that anyway that's no no no i'll just add up yeah shoulders back to these up yeah say it with your chest yeah i will actually well i don't have any personal updates that need to be recorded on a podcast but i do want to talk about little miss demi gavotto some legends are returning talking about lindsey lohan talking about demi gavotto talking about mary todd lincoln mary todd lincoln a legend returning yeah i've always said that um but her new song fast goes fucking hard to me oh i like it it's very everyone's like the charlie xx of it all so god forbid she keeps up with the times i want her successful i saw her come out um at the jonas brothers concert i can't believe they got her and nick in the same vicinity but is it still that toxic i i like to hope so a girl can dream it can't be that bad still everyone has moved on um i don't know but i she did like a little camp rock medley and i was like oh this is for me that that bitch can belt i love me some of this levato elevatics if you will you know who i hope is somewhere choking on his own spit who her ex-fiance the one the one who posted who went and had himself paparazzi'd at the beach where he proposed to her after she broke off the engagement what she was right to do i hope he is somewhere getting a bug caught in his mouth that is true looney tune behavior i would do it i hope he trips and falls in front of a group of middle schoolers and gets made fun of being bisexual is dating a guy like that though like i get i get now why she did it you kind of have to date a man either a woman or a man with a lot of drama and that's bisexuality a quick demi levato with mount rushmore though speaking of not this song it's good but not like that are you are you levatics no oh that's fine you were like miley we were over here yeah when she was bullying demi i didn't know what to do that felt like a child divorce all over again i always bring up the fact that she bullied her on youtube that was crazy made fun of her gap and then she got it closed i stand with both of them i don't know how um cool for the summer does that mean anything to you yeah okay falling over me does it mean anything to me i remember when you lived in bushwick and every time i walked into your apartment i would hear that song yes i yes it means something to me whoa lower the gun and put the machete to the side kick it to the side holy shit we're done here we're wrapped that's enough for this week oh literally that's all for this week as usual we are too online The discussion highlights heartfelt moments, especially around maternal bonds and teenage identity, while critiquing the movie’s outdated humor and fashion choices.

FAQs

The movie follows Lindsay Lohan as a single mother who works two jobs and is deeply loyal to her deceased father. She meets Manny Jacinto, who has a daughter, and they plan to marry and merge their families. However, their daughters hate each other, echoing the original film's theme of family tension. The story explores themes of motherhood, identity, and understanding between mothers and daughters.

The main cast includes Lindsay Lohan, Jamie Lee Curtis, Manny Jacinto, Vanessa Bayer, Chloe Fineman, Sophia Hammons, and Julia Butters. Jamie Lee Curtis plays Dr. Tess Coleman, a role the speaker says was 'meant to be' in the film.

The speaker cried multiple times because of emotional moments, such as when the daughter realizes her mother's song is about her, and when they see the deep connection between mothers and daughters. The film's portrayal of a mother understanding her daughter's truth deeply moved the speaker.

The speaker criticized the costumes and styling as 'crazy' and 'kooky,' especially noting Jamie Lee Curtis' pink ponytails and the overall fashion choices felt out of place, particularly for a film about a fashion-designer daughter.

The soundtrack, especially the theme song, plays a pivotal emotional role when the daughter realizes it's about her, triggering a powerful emotional moment. The speaker notes it reminded them of childhood memories and punk rock music from the early 2000s.

The speaker appreciated the realistic, adult dynamic between the two actresses, noting that Jamie Lee Curtis is overbearing but loving, reflecting real-life parenting experiences. They also felt this added depth to the film's authenticity.
