Rory Nakaroy, congratulations. Thrilling weekend, Ron, we didn't look like we're going to get that for a little while. Joining you obviously, as always, PGA Sports 101, Ron Claus is going on, but. Yeah, it was another fun watch this year. You know, Congrats to Rory. You know, I know a lot of us thought that and going back to the transfer second, you know, I know one of the big ones people always call out is, oh, you know, winner can't win back to back years. And it's not really that you can. Obviously, these guys are so good that you can't win back to back years, but it's just the fact that this course is so tough. And when you go back and look at Rory's, you know, three weeks, four weeks before, even longer. Like, yes, he was hitting it really well, but then he had the back injury and then he had the 46th of the players and then, you know, it does help. You know, 18 of last 20 have played in, you know, one of the two weeks before the Masters. And, you know, just combining all that with all his obligations, you know, premasters and even some of his quotes, you know, going back to last year about, you know, I guess even me personally wondering, you know, how motivated is he? So when you had all those factors up, you know, it makes a lot of sense that, you know, you're not going to really look at Rory that hard. And of course, you know, golf, those were golf does. And, you know, Rory is just one of the best players of all time and he proved it again. And, you know, I know a lot of Cam Youngbacker is disappointed. And, you know, Justin Rose was right there again. So just another amazing Masters. And yeah, we got another one this week that's, you know, I don't like these signature events right after, but another great field this week. Yeah, we do. I looked at Rory pretty hard, actually. And I joined Mayo for his preview show, built his model and went through it. And I pushed back on like, I couldn't believe the Rory was, at that time, was at nine even. And I just didn't understand why he was at nine. And Pat made a compelling case that like he thought he was going to get out to maybe even 15. On the struggle with that drift is that if you're making early week decisions, it was going to be really hard. You were going to be able to fit Rory on as he drifted. So for me, it was like, you know, if you're making the decision to not even consider Rory, it was to your point one of two reasons, right? It was either going to be just red line the defending champ or garlics the situation. Historically, to your point with the trends, probably would have been okay with that more times or not. But then like the back concerns, I feel like he kind of answered it at the players. Like he just didn't make any pots. Like he was fantastic off the tee, you know, seemed to be like, you know, full health. So, you know, the one trend that trend there that's interesting, the schedule wise, we know we got, we used to have match play in that like not the lead up window, but like I think two weeks before. Now it's, you know, we're kind of like Houston and the Valero. I mean, Rory even called it out like in not everyone can get away with saying that. He's just like, I don't like the two events. I didn't like the two events leading up to it. He had the opportunity access funds to be able to be like, yeah, I'm going to just jump on my private jet and go play a gust of for, you know, a practice round and then go back home instead of, you know, do that a couple of times instead of playing in Houston or San Antonio. So very unique, interesting situation. That's a modifiable trend. But he at least gave us a weekend round because it looked like heading into, you know, Friday night Saturday was like, man, six strokes. That kind of run he went on the end on Friday. Was impressive. And it was there for the taking for a number of guys. There for Cam Young, it was there for Rosie. You know, Scotty did his best bogey free weekend, which, you know, we'll get in the Scotty as we try to handicap Harbor Town here in a moment. Bogey free weekend was impressive. But just it was there for people like Rory played Chris. You know, there wasn't a lot of like theatrics down the stretch, but like again, the chip on 17. And obviously the, you know, the good mess on 12 because he straight up wasn't necessarily going for the flag. We watch guys bail out left and long pretty much all day on 12. And then I think he was kind of trying to go between the bunkers and just kind of missed a little bit and it fell off and ended up being obviously a beautiful shop. But like it was there for guys. But hey, that's everyone needs their breaks. You know, Rory continuously all week found time straw off the tee and playable windows for a second. Cam Young, we call out Cam as someone who's, you know, was, had the Cam ticket. Cam caught multiple breaks where it's like, oh, that ball is going to the woods and it bounces into the fairway. Rosie caught a few of those like that's just going to be cumulative of four days of golf. We're seeing everyone's shots. That's probably happening more times than we know of. In normal tournaments too, we just get to see everything here at the masters, especially when you're at the top of the leaderboard. So yeah, it's, it was compelling as always. And Kutus, Rory seems to be reinvigorated and motivated for sure to be able to continue to build off of it. And the fact, the fact that he took day trips, you know, to Augusta National, I mean, that's just awesome. Amazing. Like I know players don't have time to schedule to do stuff. But like if I was a young player and like I've never played Bay Hill, like, I'm going to go there as much as I can to like that just seems like such an advantage to more you play some of these difficult courses. And so, you know, I'm not saying, you know, that fact had been a ton, but because he's played the course so much already. But, you know, I just think that's something that if I was a player, I would be looking to do not just that of course, like that where you need to learn the course, but some of these other difficult courses seems like it would be a benefit. Yeah, that's a great call out. I mean, it's and I think the other thing too is probably, you know, we heard him talk about it and it seems so, I don't know, intuitive that you would just go play tournament golf in the mindset of like playing singular ball, right? Like he talked about how like, you know, Jack would would harp on him like, go play, play your practice rounds like it's tournament golf, just play a singular ball, play it as it is instead of playing, you know, getting too cute. Yeah, obviously you get on the green sometimes, you know where the pins are, right? You know, the, you know, six to eight pin considerations that they have on each green complex, especially with all of this history. Yeah, you know, roll some puts to some different spots and stuff like that. But for the most part, play your ball and try it and give it a shot and get ready and obviously it obviously worked for him quite well. So yeah, masters never disappoints. We still landed like the 12 under a spot regardless of what we could have seen. Oh, I understand why people wanted to see it baked out and see what could have happened. I totally, totally understand that. But again, we got keep telling golf, especially in the weekend, like it is a TV product to get the end of the day too. They want birdies, they want some theatrics, they want the Roars of the crowd. All of that lends to, we don't let you bring your phones in. Like you get this higher attention level of the patrons while watching because no one's distracted with other stuff. You know where you're at, you can't be distracted by anything. People are locked in so they want to create that atmosphere and, you know, that sometimes you need some softer greens to be able to make that happen. So like, I don't know, we can bitch him on about a lot of things. The app wasn't nearly as crisp as it typically is. Sure. Totally agree. I just love the event and just I always have like some postpartum when it's over. Just feels like, you know, that build up to it and it's done. It's like, all right. Back to the normal grinds, even though we have, like you said, signature events and I love Harbor Town. But it's a little bit of a lot down. Yeah, and this, you know, I guess getting it to the course, so you want to jump in? Yeah, jumping. Yeah, so this, and I love this course too, you know, I think this is one of the most unique courses on tour. You know, you have all these dog legs, obviously, petai design, all the tea overhead.
hanging trees, even on approach, you have to deal with these fairways that are surrounded by palmettos, oaks, pines. You have all these tricky bunkers, obviously Pete died famous for his waist bunkers. You have the tiniest, second smallest greens on two or 3,700 square feet on average. So yeah, part 71, just over 7,200 yards, a very black course. There might not be a greater contradiction in courses, played in consecutive weeks when you go from the expansive length, the on gelating Augusta National, and then you have this very claustrophobic, concise, harbour town. Like I said, very flat. I think it's the 17th shortest course on two or so. Obviously off the tee looking at a lot of less than driver this week. So agronomy related. So this is one of those courses where we're getting into, you know, mid April here, obviously down in South Carolina. We are getting into warmer weather, but the winter was very cold there this year. So the bermuda grass is still from what I've heard mostly dormant. And so we do have the overspeed again on fairways on rough. The rough is very similar again to Augusta last week. It's only 1 1/2 inches. So another course where you're not really going to be penalized with, you know, as far as penalties off the tee, that there is some water on the course or nine holes with water danger. But if we're looking at just kind of overall, kind of what I'm looking for, obviously this is not a course where you can kind of, you know, bomb and gouge it to death. Distance is very low as far as what matters. Even accuracy isn't obviously with the rough being 1 1/2 inches. Not hugely important, but you do want to be able to position yourself off the tee. So this is a week. I'm definitely looking at distance from edge of the fairway. You're looking to set up angles to the greens and it's it's really a course when you look at the data. It's about the second and third shot. You know, with approach with these greens so tiny, there are a lot of misgreens here. We do have the, you know, course that's right on the coast. So coastal winds are going to come into play. Usually do for at least one or two rounds a year. So I'm really looking at around the green play more heavily. And I think this is a great week for course course. We have the course comp feature in the rabbit hole. So looking at kind of other short positional courses, such field, wildlife, TBC sawgrass, C.I. on colonial, TBC River Highland. So there's a good group of courses that we can kind of use to follow a similar blueprint. And so yeah, middle iron play, you know, when you look at the data again, 125 to 200 yards, 62% of approaches. So looking at those buckets, it's the highest range on two earth, 62% from that yardage range. So these are all kind of the most important things on how I'm looking at this week. And again, no cut event here. We have 82 players. So, you know, we have all kinds of filters in the rabbit hole. If you want to look at small fields, no cut events, signature events that we can kind of take a look at here. Absolutely. Yeah, Justin Thomas was your 2025 winner. This is just a course that's like used to bring in some great lawn shots, some great just down the board, course fit, specific golfers. And that's one of the things that's been kind of taken away from it, from, you know, the move to a signature event. Now, the cool thing is that we get to see, you know, the best golfers in the world, typically, you know, come here and contend, which, you know, was not a spot for a little while that, you know, you were seeing outside of like guys that had like RBC ties, you know, you go back to like, you know, 20s, 15, 2016, all that range is like, you'd get Dustin Johnson here at the time because he was an RBC guy, but you get a lot of other top guys skipping the event. So now we get for the most part, you know, Rory always skips this one regardless of if he wins or not, but, you know, you get a really strong, strong feel now because we have the signature events. So it's hard to pass up that money, no cut event as well. So those things are tough to pass on for most of the field if they're, if they're eligible. So I'll take this back on a let folks know if they are not currently subscribed to the YouTube channel. If you're watching and hanging out with us now, take care of that first. So check that out on our partners over there at Splash Sports as well. You guys help us fill a bunch of contests over there this week. So who knows to you for doing that. Let's look at the betting board. Scotty here. That's terrifying. Scotty between 350 and 4 to 1 using again, looking at our friends over the lines, looking at their betting board here for us. Zander Shoffley, Tommy Fleetwood, Cam Young, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Russell Henley now all kind of 20 or shorter. Ludwig kind of in that range as well. Patrick Cantley who's got a macular course history, especially for a guy who's actually never won here. Always in contention, he's here at 22. More a cow at 2025. Burns, he kind of around 25 to 30. Jake Napp showed me a lot this weekend, very impressed with Jake Napp. I don't know that this is the place for him, but 30s or so Bobby Mack, Matt McNeely, Jordan Speeth, Seaboo Kim who was very much in control here last year until a rough Sunday. Got tracked down. Hovelin JT, Lowry, Gauterup, BG, Jason Day, Bridgman, Rosie, kind of right around 50. And you got to be a pretty good teardrop of guys. Because again, signature event, we're going to have a lot of win equity sucked up to the top of the board here, but you get some bigger numbers on some guys that are interesting course fits. That's your thing if you want to take on Scotty in particular who, I mean, I don't know that there's a bad course fit for Scotty, but you know, it was come off of a master's win here in one of the past two. So, you know, interesting, the board, obviously a decision to be made and again, we'll have without Scotty markets this week. Obviously, we that's becoming more commonplace and I think that's going to be something that maybe people entertain a little bit more because he seemed to bounce back in a pretty big way here. So, definitely shop around here on a Monday morning as we look around. You want to just kind of look here at our tournament cheat sheet. You get just sense of rolling form, who's been playing the best, their recent form as well. The master's data is in here. And if you want to kind of check that out, you could see what that looks like. And then if you just want to see Toronto's point, you know, course history, Flash comp courses. It's a pretty good week for that Scotty again. I've only been here the three times. It's kind of been in the mix and all of them. Good cam young back in 2022 when he was informed T3 here, which is interesting. It seems like a fantastic Russell Henley course. That was well and Ron. I didn't have a taste for on Sunday. Russell Henley starts popping on a leader board at the masters. I don't have a ticket on him. He has someone who is, it makes that click all the time. I could not lose cam young to a back door Russell Henley master's victory. That would have been emotionally devastating. I was not prepared for that. Call him or a cow another. You would think a strong course fit there. Bernie's been okay here. Zander. Here's the can't leave stuff with just a bunch of top 10s top threes. He's been in the mix. Speed loves this place. It's playing pretty good golf. If we could, you know, three X the whole for him, that would help quite a bit. We know the 50 narrative, which I think will be a popular click here. Fits would routinely vacation here with his family growing up. One here in 23s. Been in contention here a couple other times. You can see this here on our tournament cheap sheet. I don't know what to do with what are your thoughts on calling? It was a gutsy performance, I guess. But I, someone made a comment in our discord and people jumped on a little bit. I kind of agree with him. Like, Colin said that his back was okay. And he was gutsy. He performed. But he really said that it was more mental than anything. And then every time we saw Colin, it looked like he was like 95 years old. But he said he told us with his own words, this back was okay. It was more of a mental thing that he just every swing was worried about and he had to kind of get over it. So I was like, is he hurt?
Is it hurting? I don't want to be critical of again, he's in the arena. Back injuries are very, very, you know, touch and go, but it seemed a little bit bizarre. I didn't know what to make of like he just kind of seemed like. Everything was very hesitant. As bad as he looked, I'm kind of shocked he hasn't withdrawn this week yet. And he made the comment too that it was like yes, his back was fine. It was almost like his legs like he couldn't get any turn. And so I mean, he was handsome. Great shots. He was putting the lights out. So yeah, I'm not, I'm not going to judge your question because I've never had a back injury, but I've heard what they can do to people. And so especially on a golf course. Yeah, it was, it was kind of, you know, obviously like in DFS, I didn't completely fade him because you know, some of those big tournaments, you know, you want to get leveraged somewhere and you know, I played him about 5% and I just kind of believe seeing him climbing the leaderboard like that. And then seeing him swing and then seeing him walk and yeah, it did look like you know old man out there, but you know, hey, I'm just going to give him credit for fighting through and agreed. But as, yeah, that's really Scottie thing. I think we can put the whole ball striking thing to bed. You know, he gained 10.25 strokes last week. Almost seven strokes on approach. So whatever the issues were, they are better now. And yeah, like you said, it's, I think we're back to decision time because we know how well he plays his course. You know, this is a ball striker's course. If there ever was one, especially on approach. And so, you know, you got a lot of great course fits, you know, when you look at the course history sheet, we all know what can't lay does here Brian Harmon like an amazing run of, you know, top 10s, top 15s. And there's even there's there are some interesting guys in the mid tier JT Postman is one Daniel burger. So yeah, it's it's a week worth some tough decisions for outright for sure. Yeah, I agree. Yeah, I don't mean to be critical of calling. He just was like, I didn't know what to make of what he's saying and then what his back was what he was doing because you again coming into it. If we had no back injury, calling it like 27 30 to one would have been in consideration. The master's is surprisingly is really played well there and continuing to play well. So he is interesting this week as well. I'm kind of with you like I'm waiting for the WD. And obviously, yes, it's a signature event, but like getting up for a major is a different gear than even getting up for signature event, but you could be in a similar situation this week where people are. Has it tends to click on him, maybe drifts a little bit, maybe get some low ownership in DFS again, these are things that could be on the table if he doesn't. I would draw from this event. So curious case that fell bad for him because really like man, he was playing fantastic off to start the year even getting a head into the players, he just been playing so well and you know he was obviously very popular that week as well. So good for him to get out there and post another great finish. I'll be interesting heading into that event next year for sure. So. Alright, let's go through and like you said, you walk through some of the over arching thoughts of what we have here from a less than driver standpoint. You know difficult to gain off the tee because you really. And again, yes, there's no rough penalty, but there's definitely you can you can have some overhanging trees from the fairway here is a tricky tricky spot around the green play does matter because like you said, you just you have these small greens. But it's a spot where like I think bad. I say bad around the green players can be okay, but it's so easy to gain around the green here partially because it's so flat on the greens are so small. So I think you know using some of the filters to see not just who's been good around the green, but specifically it will look to you got more around the green short grass than rough. And because it is easy looking at like around the green proximity from short grass when it's easy, I think those are some like filtering options that I think could be pretty interesting for us as well in some of the core of their courses too. Yeah, and here's a couple other interesting things. So there was a restoration done on this course at the end of last year by Davis, level 3. It wasn't like complete or anything, but they did redo the greens and a lot of the bunkers. And so some of the greens are different sizes than they were in the past and typically when there are new greens, you know, the course does play firmer and for sure in the year that follows. Not sure what the level that's going to be this year, but that's one thing and then as the strength of this field has increased so this has only been a signature event with a no cut for the last two years. And so we've seen scoring go all the way down to an average score of minus 164 per round. And it was always usually around pretty much less than a stroke before then. So, you know, we've really seen, you know, obviously with better players, the scoring ease has less than and so it makes a little tricky if you're using the scoring conditions filter this week. I'm probably not going to mess with that as much because, you know, even if you want to run easy, that's fine. But I'm mostly going to be focusing on, you know, course length and trying to fit those things. And even looking at, I think the signature event filter when you get all these great players together, especially in these no cut, no cut. I know most of the signature events are no cuts anyways, but you know, either one of those, I think is a great look at, you know, just over the last even two years, three years what players do in these types of conditions. And so, you know, the strength is a good call out, yeah, because you can see here too, like our, you know, birdie rates gone up, you know, scoring has been better. You're, again, these are all correlated right the bogie. So, this goes down, dropped, you know, roughly three percent from 2021, 2022 to what we saw last year, again, just that tracks right we have significantly better players and they're playing here for four rounds because you have the no cut. So these things are going to start to change a little bit. So, great call there to by Ron. I wouldn't get too much into scoring conditions from a filtering standpoint. So, back up to off the tee driver distance against some of the stuff is also increasing a little bit because better players, you know, are going to trust their driver a little bit more still significantly less driver usage than your standard PGA torvent significantly fewer, 320 plus your drives, you know, seeing even, you know, middleing accuracy, a little bit above tor average, which again you would expect when you have less than driver. Essentially, that's what you would think they would be sacrificing is, you know, distance in exchange for accuracy. You see that good driver percentage up there too. Again, that's going to continue to track with the strong strength of field. I'm going to approach standpoint. I can see greens in the reg again below tor average against smaller greens, maybe, you know, see a slight change there to hitting greens at a lower clip than standard, even from the fairway. But again, that is trending up over the last couple of years with a stronger field. And you have some other situations in it to and some softer greens stop that'll kind of pop some unique years there. You can see going for the green. It's not something that guys are rewarded with very much like last year, you know, pretty much in line with what you typically see from a going from the green rate that's increased. But again, hitting the green is something that's, you know, not necessarily, you're not necessarily being rewarded for that becomes the around the green play stuff as well here. If you go into the distribution, Ron touched on this to kind of the 125 to 200 bucket, you know, you think more in smaller course, a lot of less than driver. But again, that kind of leads you into a decent amount from even that, you know, look at that jump from 175 to 200, a pretty decent amount above PGA tor average. So, you know, seeing some early content, I've seen stuff in the past, people talking about yeah, a lot of like wedges 150 in. I mean, yeah, but not like significantly above a PGA tor average event. Actually, the one bucket that's bigger is this 175 to 200. So I wouldn't get two in the weeds on proximity ranges. You just kind of have to be, you know, dial the cross the board on on the approach stuff. Getting to the around the green stuff. This is what I was talking about here. We know we have to lean on a little bit more because we saw greens and reg rate a little bit lower, but we have more around the green shots from the short grass you can see here. 58 56% 56 and a half the last five years were on a PGA tor event that's around 40%. So we have more scrambling around the green shots from short grass versus rough. So that's something that I think we definitely need to look at. You can see the proximity is shorter to again, part of that is smaller greens as well flat greens. And you're going back to the start. It's a little bit easier to kind of make this happen and navigate around the greens here than a standard PGA tor event. So anything you want to touch on there with what I talked about there. I know. I mean, it's yeah, like you said, I think they're going for the green thing really stuck out with me. You know, we have three part five this week. Very difficult to hold these greens. And yeah, like you said, it is very flat. The the amount of short grass shots. I think, you know, these guys, this is nothing compared to a gust of though, you know, where it's pretty much all, you know, flat short grass. You know, these are, you know, a lot of the greens here. Even the screen surfaces are very flat. So, you know, when they're chipping onto these greens, you know, it's much easier to get the ball closer to the hole. So definitely something I'm looking at in our filters with with
shortgrass shots, but definitely not messing with the difficulty level. Probably just taking more of a general overall view of shortgrass and around the green and just kind of saying who's playing well. And I think if you can play well at a gust around the green, you're probably going to be good this week. Agreed. Yes. That's always something that I think of every year and like, man, coming here, you've got to feel like this is around the green shots. Just so different. I don't have to necessarily worry about getting on the top shelf or chasing to a back pain or holding the right quarter of the green, all those things matter significantly less here because of just the respect differences. So yeah, it's, I can't imagine what that's like to play such a shock in the system. Again, across the board here, from what a gust of demands. So let's play around with some stuff. Let's look at the rap home. And with you, I'm not really going to get into again, kind of the foundational conditional filters that we look at, typically you're in these buckets at the top from a scoring condition, course length field strength standpoint. I'm with Ron. I don't think really we need to look at scoring conditions at all this week. I think I would kind of spend more time looking at course length specific stuff, field strength stuff, even if you wanted to. But I would look into some stuff around. Last and driver, I would look into some, you know, less than driver ball striking, some of those types of things. So let's just start there. Let's just kind of weed out long courses and weaker fields. Again, kind of, it's kind of overarching. Just start our look there. We'll back out to the like the last, I like the last calendar year, but you know what I've been doing is just kind of go back and sometimes have these weeks be there staggered a little bit. We reset this because I was looking at something earlier. Another staggered weird. So sometimes you just kick back to the previous year and goes a little bit longer than the calendar year. So get us to some of our master stuff. All right, best golfers in the fields. Roughly last calendar year. It took off my conditions here. I want to look at average short, very short courses, strong, very strong and we'll just go like strong, very strong fields. Pull out the average ones. You kind of got a decent set of data here in this subset. Scotty Tommy Austin Smotherman, small sample, but he's been playing pretty well. Nikolai Huergaard, same smallest sample. He's been good. Yellow Mirage, I think people are going to want to click again in some way, shape or form. That would make sense. Henley JT, Kentley, Seth, Putnam, again, small sample, but he's been pretty good. Fitz, spawn, burns, very hall. It's kind of your line of guys gaining at least a stroke if you want to see T to green in this sample. Again, Smotherman, that's, he's been, what are these Smotherman rounds? He's been a good, a small sample, but he had the week off. See how he's doing. There's the players and the MX. Okay. MX, interesting. Okay. Tommy, Yellow Mirage, again, Seewoo, that makes sense. Seewoo wouldn't pop in the overall because he's bleeding strokes on the greens. More Kentley, Henley, Bits, Love, which makes sense. I think those would be pretty popular names towards the top run if people are not clicking on Scotty or, you know, again, even trying to people float around the without Scotty markets. I would expect Kentley, Henley fits to be pretty popular. Any takeaways from this? I struck as another one too. You know, he's a guy who on these shorter courses, you know, want the best of the players in the world. Love struck this week. It's surprising to classify that a strong field event this year, so that's why it's people are wanting to want to, or this amix on here. That's what's on this list. But, yeah, there's, there's a lot of great course for guys here. And another thing I want to mention, what you pulled up to calendar feature, I think this is another thing that a lot of people may not realize. But if you ever want to check like lead in form, like you can go back to any time frame you want to, if you want to go back, let's, you know, see how players we're doing coming into this event last year, you know, last three months, last four months, start of 2025. There's so much flexibility for you to kind of go in and look at that. And so, yeah, that calendar feature is amazing as well. It's a great call, lead in form pieces. Really, it was nice I used it last week for, you know, for Masters stuff. Yeah, you can manipulate outside of just the, you know, time frame up here or last X amount of rounds, you know, you can move the whole thing back into, you know, just whatever, whatever range you're looking for, I think is great. I mean, you want to build a lead in form model for the RBC this week. You can just look at the last three years and just go back to March, February of 2023 till April of 2023. Grab that data, put it in a model, you know, and then do the same thing for 2024, 2025. And then, you know, put that into your, your data set too, if you want to just build, I mean, those are the types of things that you can, you can do here. So, yeah, I think this is kind of a good foundational way to look at the week. Let's look at some off the T stuff we touched on. And let's go back. I want to keep the average short, very short course length look here. And then you can get into less than driver because you said, look, we were anywhere between like 12 to 15 percent below a PGA Tor average events. And then you can look at a few things through the lens of less than driver. I think you can look at obviously off the T stuff, but I think you can look at a good drive percentage. I think you can look at, you know, a few different things off the T with less than driver. Again, this is mitigating the advantage of the bombers to be able to pound away here. Let's see, let's go back here. Same custom timeframe that works. You probably want. Oh, this is, yes. This is not a huge data set here, but just see who we got here. We'll go back to off the T grab some of these off the T metrics. See who's gained off the T in this situation. Michael Brennan, Seawoo, Marco Penge, Scotty, Sam Stevens, Fitz, Colin, Bernsey, Canley, and Ryan Gerard. You can solve Ryan Harman right there too. And again, this is, you know, again, you can be watching this to be like, this is a useless data set. Look how small the sample is. Totally fair. I just want to show you some of the ways you can go about it and get kind of the most recent guys in this, uh, build your own model the way you want to. Uh, good drive percentage to do this lens of less than driver. Seawoo, Colin, NAP, Yellow Maraju, Burns, Kidiama, Scotty, Tommy. Um, again, you can look at back this up way longer. You can look at good, driver's percentage of small greens, uh, you know, all these different things, you know, just kind of giving you a overview of some of the names that kind of pop here at the top for, uh, for this. And, you know, I would always want to weed out three round samples for sure, uh, and things that are really that small, um, so again, just kind of showing you the viewers, because we're, again, we're noticing, you know, more people are watching this than ever before. We totally appreciate that. Most of you are not even subscribed to the channel. So I imagine you're not subscribed to the channel. You're probably not subscribed to Petsford's Golf. So you just want to show you some of the things that are available here. And again, why would we do this? You know, I don't know how relevant, um, you know, last weeks off the tea data would be for, uh, hard to town, right? Like we want to kind of try to recreate, you know, what we're going to see in the conditions that we're going to see for this week. So you want to try to kind of hone in on, uh, what the setup is going to be. So another way to do this, Ron, you said, comp courses, right? You can go into course specific and look at any course that you want and see we have a button here where you can just literally load the comp courses and it loads all of the courses that are similar to the, um, harbour town, RBC heritage that we have this week. Actually, you can do this too. Just add in, uh, harbour town. So you want to look at who's played specifically well at harbour town.
Harbor Town and the comp courses. Let's mess around with our sample here. Maybe last, it's just like pretty decent sample of courses. Maybe in the last two years, you might get 20 or 30 rounds. Yeah, 30 rounds even for Scotty. So you're best in the field at Harbor Town and the comp courses over the last two years. Scotty Schuffler, Yellow Maraju again, eight round sample, but he's, we saw grass, he played well, saw grass. And play well at, a copperhead too. So that's gonna be popping for him. There's, step again, as you mentioned, JT, your defending champ here. Alex Noren, Tommy Fleetwood, Patrick Cantley, Colin Moore, Kyle Russell Henley, Matthew Fitzpatrick, pretty big teardrop, then we get down into the post-inspawn, Zander Tier. But you know, solid set of data here. This would be to me, I think like a foundational anchor piece at comp courses. And you're tying in a little bit of course history here as well. You can mess around with that sample, but I think this is a pretty good foundational piece of who should kind of anchor your stuff this week. Yeah, agreed. And I think another component this week, especially with the tiny greens is the small green filter. And so, you know, kind of shifting to approach here. That's definitely something I'm gonna look at. You know, looking at those courses that I'm bringing in tiny greens with approach play. And yeah, I'm like going back to off the tee. I'm not weighing off the tee heavily at all this week because again, it's basically, it's basically target golf. A lot of guys just hitting to the same spots and yeah, approaching around the green or the two, I'm really focusing on this week. So, it's like small greens and then we'll look at, we'll back out, we'll go last 12 months and we'll look at approach specific stuff. See our leader A and Stroke's game approach. Small greens, last 12 months, decent sample, Scotty Shephler. Oxchee's been good in small greens. Again, smaller samples for small, they're in Nikolai, Hoigard, Tommy, Bits, Ben Griffin. It's good to see Ben Griffin show a little bit at Augusta. It also gives a whale away with driver and that worked out for him. Hovelin small greens, it's been good. Spawn, Colin, Sep, Brennan, again, another impressive showing for, you know, Brennan as the first timer last week. Henley is a Sune, Kidiama, kind of your best guys there in small greens. Again, decent sample. If you ever want to just kind of weed out a small sample guys too, you can put this minimum around feature in. This will pull any of those guys that, you know, say, less than 16 rounds that pull some of the small data. And again, in these situations, you can really start to see where Scotty separates, which would make sense. Again, greens in reg rate, and these small greens can matter too. I could see his Sune, Scotty, Gour Bjornson's been good there. William Mao's been good. More Kawa, Putnam, Bits, Akshay, Gaur up, Henley again. So again, lots of different ways. Obviously, you're gonna always lean on approach, but we have a low greens in reg rate here too. So if you wanted to go into some of the, going for the green stuff that we touched on, I don't know that I would have small greens filter on for going for the green rate, but that's all here for you too. If you want to get a sense of who goes for the greens and more aggressive, who was successful when they do it. You know, that's all here for you too. Again, I would take this filter off if you were doing it, but as we touched on earlier, low greens, not necessarily low, go for it rate, but kind of a low hit rate there too. - Okay, let's do this real quick. Go back to the filter and just a different way people can look at this because these are harbored on the 11th toughest greens to gain on approach. So set approach, keep the green filter on small, keep that on small, and then go down to approach and set it to difficult and very difficult. And then back out to three years. So you're basically looking at not only small greens, but also greens that are difficult to gain strokes. You widen your sample out a little bit. And again, it's just another way to kind of take a different angle here. Kind of piggybacking off of not just small greens, but also difficult again, like you said, trying to recreate those conditions as best we can. - Yeah, I think it's an important thing to do. Again, you're grabbing some recent data. You know, you're gonna get a lot of driver-heavy courses over the last few months. We don't really want to pull that in. So look, when you get back to three years, people have different feelings about how long you should be going back for some of this. I think part of it is like building a model, right? You're not making every decision based off of this data, but if someone also has good recent form and they also fit kind of this type of subset, I think these are the things that make a ton of sense, right? We feel pretty good about Scotty, Colin, SEP, Russ, Oxhey form. And then it also speaks to their success in the setup where they've had success on approach in these small greens setup. So, like you know, a lot of guys towards the top of the board. Scotty, Colin, SEP, Lipsky, Pops. You know, not a small sample. I mean, over three years it is, I guess, but you know, it's interesting. Russ will Henry, Oxhey, Ashine, Lowry, King Larry hates Sundays at Augusta. That seems to isn't like Sundays anyway necessarily, but Sundays at Augusta have been back-to-back issues for Shane. Zander, Kantley, Fitz, JT, Tom Hogi, Hovlin, Bud Colley, Lucas Glover, JG Spawn. Again, these are elite consistent approach players. And I think this is another great way to kind of look at this week. So again, I know people have mixed feelings about going back to too far. I like it, especially like when you're doing this type of filtering by condition. Like if you don't go back a couple of years, you're not gonna have data that's worth it anyway. So I'd rather go back in the kind of, I think Ron would agree with me, like this is kind of establishing like baseline skill set for these guys, right? Like this is who they are. So this is relevant data, even if I think some people would tell you we're going back too far. I think that that's, I think this is kind of foundational who some of these players are. So this is a great way to look at it too. We could do some same stuff with the around the green stuff. So let's reset. 'Cause I'm with you, we go back to the Harbor Town layout as I highlighted here. We around the green have more around the green short grass stuff, right? So scrambling, percent higher, in smaller greens, those pot ranges are a little bit tighter. I really agree with Ron. It's, I love this, you know, the proximity, the proximity. And it's just so much better of an indicator of actually the skill set, where we're looking at scrambling. It's gonna give us a little bit of putting. I just wanna know who's leaving themselves makeable putts from short grass around the green. So we have more of it, and it is easy to gain that weight too. So if we get into some real specific filtering, so we go into, you can get into smaller greens if you want, but I also just think you can get into it being easy to gain around the green. So we just go easy, very easy. Can you go average if you wanna increase the sample size a little bit? Same thing, we have more short grass. Again, if you just wanna pull out the difficult stuff. I think this is a good way to start. Let's start here. See what we get, we'll back out a little bit, and we'll look into the around the green, and we'll look more of short grass here. So let's back out here, we'll go at least the last calendar year and see who we got. So who's good at gaining around the green when it's not hard, and then scrambling short grass. Again, you can look at around the green, proximity short grass in this setting. Sand has been really good. Yellow Maraju has been really good. Keegan Bradley, Ricky Fowler, Scotty Schuffler, piercing Cudi, Sun J, Ludwig, Michael Kim, JT, Tommy. Anything you would do different with these filters or any feedback here? - Yeah, you saw on the course page how close they're hitting it. Obviously that's because the greens are so small here, and they're chipping much closer than a normal week. But yeah, like you said, I'm just taking kind of the broad view. I'll make my own every week I do this. I'll make a little mini filter, where I'll take the exact percentages from rough sand, short grass, kind of build like a little mini model. And I'll do the same this week, but yeah, I'm keeping the filters pretty wide and I like how you do it there. - Yeah, I think, you know, again, we want to attempting to recreate what the conditions are going to be this week. So you can mess around with sample size here. It's actually a pretty decent sample size. And I think you'll see some correlation to guys who've had success here in the past. Because again, what we're trying to do, right? We're trying to pick winners, trying to build the FS player pools, build betting cards. You want to have some things that are a little bit predictive when you've had some course history repeaters here, whether it's guys that were coming here. Before we were doing signature events, we've had success here the last few years. I think this is a good way to kind of go about it. Before we wrap anything else you want to show the people?
- I think we're good. Obviously there's a lot of other filters. I think this is a spike approach week. So floor ceiling filters are great look as well. Yeah, that's probably the other main one I'll look at. I think even if you wanna look at finish position no cut events. I think these are always unique where guys play a little differently. They only have four guaranteed rounds. So yeah, a lot of different ways to look at the no cut event thing too. - Yeah, just for care we'll look at short, shorter courses and see who's spiked on approach. Again, I absolutely love this filter. Are this view, you're not looking at it. You a thousand percent should, I would say, no matter what you're looking to do, speculation wise, but I mean, especially if you're looking down the board and trying to find some viable punts in DFS, you really do need to swing for the fences. You need to find some guys that do have upside and you hear people reference spike weeks, spike punting spike approach. This is the data that actually backs it up. So you look at this. - Just really quick, especially if you play showdown, like this is the tool I'll use all the time. So you're just looking for guys you can pop for that one round and so guys who have a higher spike rate on these approaches, even you get into two and three strokes around, same thing for punting. That's what you're looking for. Maybe a bad putter, but you're just looking for that one round. I know showdown was getting very popular, especially it was last week. I think that's contest yesterday had 40,000 entries. And so these are the types of things that will give you an edge on the other field, other people who feel. - Yep, totally agree. You know, see, who's gained the last calendar year, percentage of rounds, these guys have gained on approach. But to your point, you wanna crawl up board here, board of the ceiling outcomes, right? Nikolai Hoigard, we're looking at guys that percentage of rounds gaining two or more. Hoigard, Scotty, Oxhey, Cam Young, Xander Shoffley, C. Wilkim, Victor Halvin, Cory Connors, and Nico Achiboriya, guys gaining north of 20%. You know, one out of five or more that are gaining at least two shots on approach. And you can start to see some of the ceiling outcomes for guys when you get even higher. Which, you know, you wanna take a look at this week. This is just on short courses. So, you know, if you wanted to pull that filter off again, you wanna put any of the other filters on, do this in small greens, do this with strong fields, do this in signature events. You could put any of those conditions on and drill down here. So, definitely, definitely we're checking that out. Gina makes a good point too. Like, looking at comp courses, you asked any value to looking at comp courses by stat, like comparing a different set of courses to each specific stat you're looking at. Yeah. Look, if you're looking at comp courses, you know, there are times where I'll see a comp course on the list. I'm like, I don't really, it doesn't track for me necessarily. But then I would understand maybe what the approach demand is or maybe what the around the green demand is for that course. I think that's a great way to look at it. Same thing off the tee. Because maybe it's a less than driver course. So, again, you can look at kind of capturing more of that information specifically by doing some other filters, but I don't think it's a bad way to get a little bit more granular. It's something that I model, but it can be, like, there's a lot of things I look at that don't go in the model that are tie breakers or Toronto's point building little sub models. I'm like, OK, well, actually, if I put these stats in my model, but like, what if I just built a model around just those stats? And I want to highlight those because I think those are kind of like the main things this week who pops in that. So those are things that I like to do quite often. So it's good call, Gina. Again, the beauty of this is there's so many different ways to go about it. You don't have to just use our models. If you don't want to build your own, we have that on the site. We'll have an article up on the site probably tomorrow that'll show kind of cumulative rankings for us, myself, Ron, Andy, Pat Mayo, like our consensus model basically. And then Andy's writing a regression report on the accuracy of the models that we are posting, too. So you get a sense of, all right, who's doing what? Who do I like? Where are there outliers? Because Andy and I build models together on Tuesday sometimes, we build them very differently. That doesn't mean that one's right, one's wrong. But we build them very, very differently. And you'll see that reflected, I think, in the expert consensus stuff, because there'll be some outliers. Ron and I will be way up on the guy. And Andy isn't even having the guy in the top 60 in vice versa. So how we do those things, how we get there is very different. So check it out.
