FFT Express - Beat the Waiver Wire! MUST-STASH Players Before Week 5 (10/09 Fantasy Football Podcast)
12m 22s
The transcript offers a detailed fantasy football strategy for Week 5 and beyond, focusing on key stashes and starting options. The Chiefs' defensive unit is highlighted as a top-tier defensive stash due to favorable matchups and consistent fantasy point production. Among quarterbacks, James Wright, Kirk Cousins, and Aaron Rogers are recommended as reliable, borderline starters with strong matchups. Kyler Murray is deemed a risky start due to poor performance, but could be a viable stash if Jefferson returns. Running back options include Keaton Mitchell and Will Shipley, both offering upside in specific game scenarios. Adam Brooks is presented as a sneaky running back stash with injury recovery potential. Wide receivers like Khalil Shakir and Roman Wilson are emphasized for their target volume and matchup advantages, while Antonio Williams is seen as a viable backup for the Commanders. Tight end Tyler Higby is recommended as a high-availability, high-floor option with strong potential in Buffalo and Rams matchups. The advice is tailored to help fantasy managers navigate roster decisions during critical buy weeks, with a focus on value, matchup efficiency, and injury risks. All recommendations are grounded in current game schedules, player availability, and historical performance trends.

We're going to give you the advice on who to pick up, four weeks six and beyond, but also some guys that can help you here in week five. Dave Richard, who is the best player or players to stash? I love it when I can recommend a DST that's on by because everybody's dropping them. Everybody who misses this video won't even have a thought to pick up the Chief's DST, but they've got the chargers in week six. The chargers have allowed at least 13 fantasy points to three of the four defenses that they faced. I think it'll be four out of five after week five. Broncos are going to be a good start. So I kind of like Kansas City is a great stash going into week six. You can make the move on Saturday afternoon. All the slubs in your league, they've already dropped them and moved on from them. Go pick up the Chief's DST, pause the video now and go pick up the Chief's DST and then come back because we've got a bunch more names to tell you about. Like who Dave? Let's how about we go to the quarterbacks. What do you think? I think you could get away with starting James Winston this week. I think you could get away with starting Kirk Cousins this week and I think you could get away with starting Aaron Rogers this week. And I think you could use all three next week as well. If you've got Joe Burrow, if you've got Jared Gough, you're starting Kyler Murray for some weird reason. Those three QBs are good replacement options. James has the Saints in week six, Kirk Cousins has the Bills in week six. Aaron Rogers has the Bucks in week six, the Saints in week seven, and the Browns in week eight. And dare I say Aaron Rogers is look pretty good this year. So these are quarterbacks that I would say are slam dunk, must start types, but they're all kind of on the fringe of a borderline starter for week five. And they're probably going to be in that same range moving forward too. And I want to make a point about Kyler Murray because I know he hasn't been good for a fantasy and he hasn't run for more than 17 yards in a game yet. He's only played two games and both of them were without Justin Jefferson or with Jefferson playing almost zero snaps. So they get New Orleans this week, hopefully with Jefferson and then a buy. It's hard for me to tell you, you know, to start him and to stash him whatever. I just want to point out with Kyler Indianapolis at Detroit and Buffalo the three games after the buy. So that's a phenomenal and I'll have Jefferson unless Jefferson gets hurt this week. So he may not be the worst player to stash too if you have the roster spot. All right, running back Steve, you know, last week you told us to pick up Keaton Mitchell and he was probably the best running back for them in a 62% roster or something like that. So yeah, I'm Syracan bang that drum again. Yeah, but he's already roster in 62% of leagues. If he's out there, pick him up. I don't know if he's like a super high upside fantasy running back, but any running back that can get you in the door for double digit PPR points is absolutely worth stashing. So you can look for him. He's got the Broncos this week, the Chiefs next week and you might look and think that the Chiefs is a bad matchup. When the Chargers are trailing, this dude's going to be on the field a lot and we saw that as recently as last week. How about those Eagles running backs? It's Will Shipley 62% roster, just like Keaton Mitchell and then Damian Pierce. I don't know if I'm buying into it, but as far as stashes go, they would make the cut and if you desperately need somebody in week five and week six, Will Shipley for what it's worth. Jaguar is this week tough matchup. I admit that's going to be rough. Caroline and week six might not be as bad. But the one that I'm stashing this is this is a sneaky stash at running back Adam. Okay. He is available in 90% of CBS sports leagues. Chris Brooks of the Packers. He started for green bay last week. He got hurt, led running backs in snaps in the first quarter. It sounds like he's got a shot to play this week against Chicago. Definitely would have a shot then if he'd missed this week, he'd heal up. Dallas and week six Detroit and week seven, Caroline and week eight. We don't know when Josh Jacobs is coming back. I think we know what we're getting with Marshawn Lloyd and Caleb Johnson. I think Brooks can end up being a sneaky running back to put on your bench and just see what happens. Sure. Over the next few weeks. Josh Jacobs 89% roster, Zach Charbonne 84% roster. So in the shallowest of leagues, take a look and see if they are available for you. And we'll take a break. Yeah. I was just going to name a couple of other running backs. Yeah. I mean, maybe people need running backs. I don't know. It's fantasy football. Everybody's getting hurt. Austin Eccler, look good last week. Giants this week, 49ers next week, 12% rostered. If you're not going to start them, I'd rather carry Brooks. And then the two Giants back up, Snagy Harris and Tyrone Tracy. It looks like Cam scataboo is going to play. But in the event that this limited non-contact Jersey that he's wearing in practice somehow keeps them out, you're going to make a beeline for Naji. And he's out there in almost 85% of CBS leagues. Yeah. It's good point. All right. Let's take a break here from running backs. We'll go to wide receivers and we'll be right back after this on fantasy football today. Express. We are back. And they have wide receivers. There's so many of them that are rostred in like half of our leagues. Who's the best one to go get? Double track for Tyree kill for some foremost. He's at 56% on CBS Sports. He's lower on other sites. But stash him if you can too. If you had to stash him or Chris Brooks, for example, I think I'd rather stash Tyree can just see what the news is over the next five days or so. Plus not everybody's going to be going crazy to stash Chris Brooks. Let's face it. But Tyree kill is out there. And then I'm just going to give you some names. Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Roman Wilson, Keenan Allen. Yeah. Michael Pittman's out for a few weeks. So I don't know. I think maybe Roman Wilson is the is the best one. We don't know how long DJ Moore is going to be out. And you might feel comfortable starting Roman Wilson as a number three wide receiver. But if there's no DJ Moore, I'm going to want those receivers from Buffalo this week. And then also moving forward for however long that DJ Moore is out. I prefer Shakir over Keon Coleman. I'm a little bit worried about the matchup Keon Coleman would draw if DJ Moore were out. Now if DJ Moore plays, I actually like the matchup for Keon Coleman because he'll be away from Trent McDuffy in theory. That's how it'll be. But Khalil Shakir, mostly a slot receiver, a guy that Josh Allen has just tons of rapport with. I think that he's the one that could end up getting the most targets of all the Bill's cats pass catchers. Just as he did when they played against the Rams two years ago, had over 100 yards in that game. I believe he scored two. A different situation sort of because DJ Moore, if he plays, obviously that makes an impact. But Khalil Shakir is somebody that I would double check for. And maybe even consider as a number three receiver this week, same thing with Roman Wilson. And Roman Wilson does have some staying power because I think he's leapfrog Michael pitman on the Dupchart there in Pittsburgh. And then Keon and Allen limited in practice. He's somebody that I think fantasy managers and full PPR leagues might gravitate toward as a number three receiver. I've got two other names for you. Antonio Williams with the commanders. Terram McLaren doesn't look like he's going to play in week five. I don't know when he's coming back. Safon Diggs is looks like he might play although he did not practice. He did not practice today. The commanders beat reporters seem cautiously optimistic, very cautiously optimistic that he'll play. If he if both those guys are out, I'm going to love Antonio Williams as maybe even like a low end number two fantasy receiver because we saw last week eight targets. That was a game where Diggs played McLaren didn't play. Got good volume. We saw him connect with Jayden Daniels back in week one. There's some goodness to his game. And he's not somebody that I would necessarily be afraid to pick up and just carry up to Sunday morning. And if we learn on Sunday morning that McLaren ends up playing and Diggs ends up playing, then yeah, of course you're not going to use Williams. You might even cut Williams. But if one of those guys are out, this matchup is favorable. It wouldn't surprise me if Antonio Williams would be worth possibly using this week. I would much rather carry the Bill's wide receivers, Roman Wilson, probably Keenan Allen moving forward as well. Because once those commanders receivers get healthy, I don't know if Antonio Williams is going to be helpful. And then there's one other guy I need to tell you about Homer Simpson's favorite player, Dante Myers. And I say that because, you know, Dante has spelled DOH like no. If there's no T Higgins and no Jamar Chase, this is the number one receiver for Cincinnati. He's fast. He's quick. He can line up anywhere. He's got almost a 70% catch rate. He's got a low A dot. But he's averaging about 12 yards per catch because he leads the the Bengals in yards after catch per reception. And he's got a 25% explosive play rate. I am very intrigued by Dante Myers. But there is no long term with him. He is definitely more of a week five play. If one of the Bengals wide receivers, Chase or Higgins misses the game against Miami. If there was more of a long term prognosis and maybe Higgins was out for a while or Jamar Chase was out for a while, I'd be much more interested in Dante Myers. Okay. Jamar Chase did practice today. He's still in the concussion protocol though. See Higgins still we don't know if he's going to be able to play. So it's very interesting. And I read a quote on this morning's show about Dante Myers from Zach Taylor, their head coach.
saying just how explosive he is. - Yes, tight ends to snatch. - Stats bear it out. Teacher Hockinson is the top tight end, but he's already rostered in 55% of leagues. He was second on our tight end stash list last week. So pay attention to this list. Michael Sicki is right behind him. He's 64% rostered. So okay, you might not be able to get Hockinson. You might not be able to get Kiseki. Who do you go after? I would look to Tyler Higby. And I know there's a chance that Colby Parkinson plays, but Higby's out there in 80% of CBS leagues. He and Stafford have connected for a long time. Figures to be a high scoring game against Buffalo. That bill's defense just is not very good. And I think Tyler Higby could end up getting, I don't know, a floor of four for 65 for 50. Somewhere in there, it's not a huge number in full PPR or half PPR, but that's the floor. And the ceiling could be a touchdown, plus maybe 20 yards on top of it. Higby would be the tight end that I would look to if I were looking for someone to replace somebody this week. And then potentially next week as well, with the Rams going up against Arizona, should be another game where they can just do whatever they want. And if Higby is the top tight end there, then he can be somebody that helps you. Maybe keep that name in mind. If you're rolling with Hawkinson as your starter this week, if you're rolling with Laporta as your starter this week, because those guys aren't playing in week six. - Anyone else Dave? - That is. - I think we're good. If you want to double back to the DST's, the chiefs are my favorite. The Colts, the Panthers. They've got some decent matchups coming up in week six. Panthers actually, Philadelphia, Tampa, Green Bay, week six, seven, and eight. All three of them have yielded double digit fantasy points to DSTs in three other four games. - Oh, okay. - And so if Caroline is going to get a little bit healthier coming out of the buy, I know their top corners won't be playing. Maybe there's something there where the Panthers could be a buy week DST. If you can't get the chiefs, you could always go with the Panthers. And I saw someone drop price young in one of my leagues. I'm going to stash him if I can pick him up. - It'd be a mistake. - Yeah, yeah. I don't think there's any good about it. That is a mistake. - Yeah, I know. I get it, you know. It's got to make these tough calls during the buy weeks. So I'm sure whoever did that does not happy about it. - All right, we'll talk to you tomorrow on fantasy football today. Thanks so much for watching this name. See ya. (dramatic music)
