FFT Express - Beat the Waiver Wire! MUST-STASH Players Before Week 2 | 2026 Fantasy Football (09/18 Fantasy Football Podcast)
11m 2s
In this episode of "Beat the Waiver Wire," Dave recommends targeted, low-risk additions for Week 9 fantasy football. The top pick is Caleb Douglas, a wide receiver with 56% rostered who is available in most leagues and could have a breakout game. For quarterbacks, Bryce Young is highlighted for potential improvement in Atlanta, while Jacobi Willis is considered for Week 3 games. Among running backs, Demon Clayborn is recommended as a safe backup behind Aaron Jones, given Jones’ age and injury risk. TyJ Spears and Emmett Johnson are noted for potential increased touches with their respective teams. Other stash options include Antonio Williams, a fourth-quarter performer with the Commanders, and Michael Mayer, a solid tight end available in 67% of leagues and a reliable replacement for Brock Bowers. Dalton Schultz and Hunter Henry are also noted for long-term potential. Finally, the Chiefs’ defense is the top DST pick, followed by the Giants and Panthers, with the latter offering strong value after a recent loss. The recommendation emphasizes minimal risk, targeting players with realistic upside based on injury concerns, game scripts, and team needs. All suggestions are designed to help fantasy managers make smart, data-driven decisions in a tight week.
Let's beat the waiver wire right now on "Fantasy for Puffer." [laughs] Thanks, friends. [chill music] Oh, we had a very fun mic check, everybody, and now we're gonna bring it over here. Dave, who's there? Hey, everybody. We had a great time before we started recording too bad. You couldn't have been there. But don't worry, we're here to help your fantasy teams by naming a guy that's gonna help you in week 9. [laughs] Now, let's get to it. All right, Dave, who's on the waiver wire quarter back that we want to-- I don't like starting at the positions. There's got to be one guy at the head of the list that everybody should go out and add. And I think that guy should be Caleb Douglas, who's 56% rostered. And yeah, he's already probably been picked up in your 12 team leagues. And maybe some of your 10 team leagues he's still gonna be widely available. But he's the one that I would go and stash. If I had one singular stash spot, he would be a Caleb Douglas wide receiver Miami Dolphins. It should have had an even bigger game than what he had if you want to learn more about that. Read my-- oh, what's it called now? It's like the week two starts and sits from Dave on CBS Sports. It used to have a name. And so I could just say, oh, go read lineup decisions. But we don't have a name for it anymore because SEO isn't a thing. Week two PPR cheat sheet? Nope. No, okay. No, that's just-- but that is a really good tool. If you need to make a starter sit decision and you only have like 30 seconds, you go there, you look for the player who you want to start, it's sorted by game. And whoever's number is higher is the player that I would start if I were you. Oh, is it Heath Cummings week two fantasy predict? That's it. That's it. It's fantasy football lineup decisions. Toughest start, sit calls. Oh, they actually have lineup decisions in the title this week. That's cool. All right, all right, Dave. Okay, the last week too. I don't know. Can we have-- yeah, nobody's reading it anyway. Can we quarterbacks, you say? Yeah, yeah. All right, so there's two at the top of the list. And really, I want to try and keep these lists short and sweet like you. Because then we're able to just give people the two, three players that they can go and pick up. It's not-- if I give you eight names, it's not going to help you. If I give you eight quarterbacks, you're literally going to look at me like I'm an idiot. As if you're not already. Bryce shungs at the top of the list. 48% roster. He's actually halfway decent start this week at Atlanta, although I don't have him as a top 12 guy. He's got Cleveland after that, Detroit after that, a buy after that. I would not start him on his buy. But if he can build off of what the Panthers did in week number one, and that offensive line gets healthy, then maybe he ends up being a good fantasy quarterback after all. The other name on here is Jacobi Berset. And I'm not starting Jacobi Berset this week against Seattle. But I would consider him at San Francisco in week three at the Giants after that and Detroit after that. OK, and he did well against Seattle last part of me last year. So fifth or sixth most points of any quarterback against Seattle all season. How about running back? Never that good here. No, and really with running backs, it's more about just picking up somebody and seeing what happens for a week. Because obviously, if there was a running back that was going to be a starter, we would have picked him up already. So strictly stashed stuff here. And Demon Clayborn makes sense. 10% rostered. This could be the running back behind Aaron Jones for however long, Jordan Mason is out. Now in my mind, I would think that DJ Dallas will be the third down back for the Vikings moving forward. And that means Clayborn is only going to take, I don't know, maybe like 25% of the snaps, 30% of the snaps. But Aaron Jones is literally 58 years old. So if something happens to him, Demon Clayborn is next man up. So for very minimum, taking him and putting him on your bench for just week two, doesn't seem like that big of a risk. If he doesn't do anything, then you can go ahead and drop him and pick up a different running back. But he's the one at the top of the list. The two other running backs that are, they're rostered in 50 plus percent of leagues. But I think they've got some interesting appeal and it's different types of appeal at him. Number one is TyJ Spears with the Titans. And I talked about this with you. If Tennessee's going to have the same game script every week, TyJ Spears is going to play more than Tony Pollard. And then Emmett Johnson with the Chiefs. We just saw this awesome game from Kenneth Walker, the third. We know what happens when Kenneth Walker, the third gets too many touches weekend and week out. When she like to have the backup running back behind Kenneth Walker, the third, it appears to be Emmett Johnson who didn't look bad himself. Both those guys between 50 and 55% roster ship right now on CBS Sports. Other names just to stash Alvin Camera. I know you've heard of him. Jonah Coleman, if you've already got him, great keep him. Deep league stash, Katron Allen with the commander, he's 12% rostered and then two IR stashes. You guys are more odds. If you've got IR spots and you're not using them to put guys on the IR, just in case something happens three weeks from now, four weeks from now, James Conner, Adam Randall, two running backs available in 13% not available. Yeah, if they help, what the hell am I saying? In 87% or more of CBS leagues. I've put James Conner in my IR. I might be a waste of time to do it, but I've got him on the IR and like seven of my leagues. So it just makes all the sense in the world to put him there, see what happens. Something goes wrong with Jeremiah Love or if James Conner gets healthy and then gets traded. Oh, baby, you've got somebody that might actually help your fantasy team and all you needed to do, which is put him in an IR spot. I just added him, Adam Randall. Yeah, that's the rookie running back behind Derek Henry. And Derek Henry isn't quite as old as Aaron Jones, but he's older and if anything were to happen to him, like, you know, he wins Powerball. We always say that instead of he gets hurt. Then Adam Randall would probably be the next man up, provided that he's healthy. I think there are two running backs that have an outside, outside chance of getting the starting job without an injury. And they are Christopher Brooks for Green Bay and Kachon Allen for Washington. Allen, I see it. Chris Brooks, I don't. Well, I mean, look, it's March on Lloyd goes out, has a bad game, something like that. Brooks is better, more efficient again. Yeah, but they acquired Caleb Johnson. And I know we're not big fans of Caleb Johnson, but if he somehow gets acclimated. Listen, the Packers were fans of Caleb Johnson during the draft process. They see something in him. He does have some traits. And so I imagine that if something were to happen to March on Lloyd, Caleb Johnson would get an opportunity and it wouldn't be the Chris Brooks show. Let's take a break. We'll be right back with Wide Receivers Titan's DSTs after this. Okay, Wide receivers to add before everyone else does. I already mentioned Caleb Douglas. I got a long list, dude. I know you said no. No, you said short list. Yeah, I don't want to give you all the names on the list. So pick your top five. That's too many. I'm going to keep you on my top two. Right. Trey Harris, 9% roster. That means he's available in over 90% of leagues. We're not expecting Lad Maconkey. I'm also not expecting miracles. Haven't really been a Trey Harris guy. But he's fast. Might be able to catch a football just in Herbert's quarterback. Antonio Williams, probably the more intriguing option. 45% roster, which means it's available in 55% of CBS Sports leagues came alive in the fourth quarter for the commanders last week after Chico Conco got hurt. And he's a pretty solid receiver already plays a lot in the slot. Could be one of those guys where the floor is 10 or 11 PPR points per week. He just did significantly better than that in his debut. OK. How about tight ends? If you need a tight end this week, I still think Michael Mayer's the guy. And this is assuming that Brock Bowers doesn't play as a Thursday. Brock Bowers hasn't practiced. I would be shocked if Brock Bowers played this week knowing how big of a role he has for the Raiders. And the Raiders are 1 and 0. And if they can somehow get to 2 and 0 and start thinking like, hey, maybe we're going to be competitive this year then they're going to want Brock Bowers to be ready to go at as close to 100% as he can be. And Michael Mayer is a really good replacement for him. They just paid him. So I think Michael Mayer who's available in 67% of CBS Sports leagues is someone you can literally pick up off the waiver wire and drop right into your lineup. I like him better than Kelsey. Like him better than Mark Andrews. Name another tight end. I'll tell you whether or not I like him better or worse than Michael. Michael Mayer. Well, I think you got to talk about Dalton Schultz in this segment here because he is literally the next name up. Yeah. So who do you like better? Yeah, I guess Mayer. I like Mayer better this week. But if you're looking for a tight end that you might be able to use for multiple weeks because I mean, Bowers is eventually going to come back. We don't know when Nico's going to come back. Seems like it's a short-term injury for Nico. Then Dalton Kinkade or I'm sorry, Dalton Schultz would be that guy and he's available in 46% of leagues. Hey, if Dalton Kinkade is on your waiver wire, he should probably pick him up. He was in one of my leagues. There may be two this past week. And then there's there is one more. I think Hunter Henry deserves at least a look too. If you can't get your cloppies on Mayer or Schultz, then Hunter Henry, 44% available on CBS. We know that he was the security blankie for Drake May many a time last year. DST is from DAVE. Go ahead. I'm glad you didn't go with my initials there. The Chiefs DST is easily my favorite. And they're startable this week against Indianapolis. And then after that, they're at Miami. And they're at Las Vegas. I wonder if my homes is going to come over and hang out on Saturday before the game. I'll ask them. And if he does, I'll let you know. But the Chiefs defense is definitely at the top of the list. I think the Giants and the Panthers DSTs are also worth stashing. They're not necessarily great defenses. Although the Panthers just gave up 59 points to the Bears. But the Giants, 17% roster, 83% available. I'm good at math. They're taking it on the Titans. They don't score points. I'm still good at math. The Giants DST should be very good in week three. Panthers play at Cleveland in week three.
if it's still Dishon Watson for the Browns home opener, number one, you can probably get tickets for like 15 bucks. And number two, you should start the Panthers defense. They're going to be 92% available. You know, Dave, I'm just going to go ahead and check the tickets for the, it's what week three Cleveland. Yeah. Let's say, would you go if you were within a 90 minute drive of Cleveland, not for $35 just to get in now. That's too much. Alright. You and I could go two tickets. Yeah, that's pretty, I mean, I'm not sitting up there. Let me travel with the team. We'd be 200 bucks. Oh, yeah. Well, that's Nathan. All right. See you guys. That's it for beat the waiver wire. We'll get Caleb Douglas. Go read Dave's articles and go enjoy your, your week. See you later. I'll be back with another one. I'm Benzik. I'm Paul Tobait. Paramount Podcasts.
