The episode of "The Toast" begins with a humorous self-reflective moment where the host realizes a scheduling error, setting a tone of playful authenticity. The discussion shifts to the viral popularity of *Dancing with the Stars*, particularly Maxum and Merrill’s performance, which sparks debates about physical intimacy, emotional boundaries, and the unrealistic nature of on-screen relationships. The host expresses personal discomfort with the show’s physical and emotional closeness, arguing it’s inappropriate for real marriages and could harm genuine relationships. A serious news segment covers the tragic death of Ken Erker, a partner of Gypsy Rose, on his 34th birthday, raising questions about coincidences, social media sensationalism, and the ethics of spreading unverified details. The hosts emphasize their deep admiration for the show while stressing they are not critics, aiming to avoid appearing hostile. The episode weaves in personal anecdotes—such as flu symptoms, pregnancy, and a fun Costco sushi adventure—adding relatability and warmth. Throughout, the hosts promote various brands and products, including Velvet Caviar, Momentous Creatine, Old Navy, and Rowback, blending lifestyle content with humor. The episode concludes with a lighter note on AI in music, where Kelly Clarkson expresses concern about AI competing with human artists on charts, but the hosts argue that music’s emotional depth requires human experience, not technology. The tone remains inclusive, self-aware, and grounded, celebrating both personal health and entertainment.
♪ Good morning, girlies, it's the tallos ♪ ♪ It's Jackson Claude and where your hoes ♪ ♪ It's your favorite show, the fast by things you need to know ♪ ♪ We'll start your day off swirly, it's the toast ♪ I sound amazing. I fully thought yesterday was Friday night. I was like, "Oh, Claudia, I wanted to send you something." And I was like, "She's off her phone, it's your bot." I was like, "I wonder how late I'll be able to sleep in." That's so funny. I think how do I remember? Well, I feel that just like programming emptied is like, we're probably going to have to start exclusively talking my dance with the stars on Patreon. Because these pros, they don't know how famous they are, they're all up in our comments. So yesterday, we posted a clip about how you wanted to be paired up with Maxum. Yeah. And I said that would get you a beating. Who's in the comments? But his brother, Val, saying, "Max is the goat." So he didn't come for us or anything. But it's just like, I need to be able to express myself. Like, I can't live like this. Or stop clipping dancing with the stomach. Maybe. So viral. It's viral. Like, that's what we want to talk about. But then yesterday, I went and watched Maxum and Merrill's winning. I don't know what it was. It was their contemporary dance. I guess that's when everyone starts getting like lyrical and takes their shoes off. Yeah. And I think that also, it's like a little bit, you get a little bit more creative. And I realized, I don't think I can do dancing at the start of thinking. That's what I've been saying. No, no. Not for like, they were so like instant, they really were like kissing at the end. I know. They were kissing, Claudia. No, I know. And it's like, I thought that was like Riley and Fabula. And they're not married individuals. A thousand percent. And you just, it's kind of like how when you're an actor, you have to be comfortable with the other people. I feel like that guy from desperate housewives. A thousand percent. I can't do just a dancing with the stars because it's like inappropriate to my marriage. Yeah, like, people can't be normal. No, you can't just be like a dance partner relationship. It's like so intimate. It was not normal the way that they were touching each other. And then I also realized whenever they do the judges' scores and everything, like the two partners are standing there like clucky each other. Get off me. One thousand percent. No, the lack of personal space is definitely something you would struggle with in addition to all the other. And you have to constantly be hugging your partner and like holding them for their life. And if you're not like the fans really start to think like they're something wrong or you guys are hating each other, like there are so many theories. So due to the physical touch, I cannot participate. It's true. Because you know, I'm like that woman from 30 Rock that Alec is dating for a second. We're like, if you like touch her, she like bruises. Yeah. When they go to the art gallery and stuff. Like she's just like very fragile. That's me. She couldn't do dancing with the stars. Neither could I. We all have our reasons for why we couldn't do dancing with the stars. Because I was starting to think, you know, like I find fibula to be an inspiration. Podcasts are on dancing with the stars. Yeah. And I really thought like my barrier to entry would be like the physical element. No, like having young children and like the. Casuals. But continuing to complete my sense. Yeah, but that's what you're saying, schedule, right? The logistics of like getting out there. Like do I like especially if I did it when they're older. Do they go to school there? Like I. No. I thought that was going to be the most complicated part, but no. It's there's a weirdness and like we're all just supposed to like with Hollywood. Like we're supposed to be like, this is normal. It's not. The marijuana to the point that I was like, were they dating when they were like. There's rumors about every single person like half the time they're true and half the time they're not like. Yeah, I could see why people might have thought. And the comments were saying, oh my god, remember when we ship them so hard. I don't know if they were married when they were both married with children now. But I hope they were single for what they were doing. And now you do understand like why Brooks sort of like had no choice but to start dating glad. Yeah. It's kind of like a forced marriage. Like you're just thrown into these sort of stressful. So all that to say, like I need the dancing with the stars pro to like respectfully like respect our creative process. What I need them to do is watch all shows that we talk about that. Because like if Derek just watches the clips or just hears a sound like he's going to think that we're haters and maybe it's unclear if you are. I'm still working through my thoughts, but at this present moment, I'm not. Like overall, we're huge fans of the show of them. Like of everything we key on stop talking about it. Like we're fans and I just feel like that's not coming through. No, we're getting like a delicious reputations and like we're not. It's just so hard with the clips. I know, but like we do what we have to do for the sake of virality, you know. Yeah, but at the expense of our relationships and then say we ever do get cast and dancing with the stars. There's going to be no one left. Are you going to look at Derek in the eye? He's obviously going to judge you poorly. Well, he judges everyone poorly and hopefully he can remember my name. We didn't even discuss that Derek again this week called Tyler Cameron Dylan. It wasn't a bit. No, I thought it was a bit. It was giving he caught it so quickly, but he still did it. That's what I interpreted it. Crazy. Genuinely offensive. It's also crazy that Dylan at front went so far last season considering he's no better than like a Tyler Cameron or Vibola. No, he was like dance wise like he was better. But it's a testament to Dengiella. It's a testament to Dengiella. What's your true dancing at the star span? You know, it's all about the pro. It's all about the pro. And that's like what people used to say to me all the time and I'm like, I'm sure it is. But I don't care about pro drama. I'm here for the star. Don't you want to know that what happened, but I'm like, no, actually, I don't care about these people. But you know what? I do. And it is all about the pro. It is. And the pro, the pro sort of maker break. Yeah. So I guess we'll have to clip this because I was a liar. And just know if we do, we're not haters. No, we're huge fans. We're loving our time with the show. It's been, um, it's been a joy and you guys are immensely talented. Thank you for all that you do. Especially the girls who like to do it pregnant. Oh, yeah. Another, another inclusive element of the show. Yes. It's crazy. I have even seen this clip going around of Ezra Freff when he was a young star on Ellen. Of course. Now I chills at the thought of my king being on Ellen, that toxic environment. The couple seconds that I watch, she's seen it lovely. Speaking of kids on Ellen, please tell me you saw that video. It's really upsetting. What? So there was a kid about the piano prodigy. Yeah. So he's grown now, but there was a kid who was like one of those kids who was on Ellen a lot. He was like an insane piano prodigy. I think he like went to Juilliard when he was like six. And he's now like releasing all this footage. I guess his mom has passed away, but like his mom was like insanely abusive, like to get him to that level. So they're like all these, it was like his Juilliard audition. And he like released the full video of like his mother screaming at him, like berating him, like an animal. And he's like sitting there crying. It's the same. It went so viral. It was all over my TikTok. It was so upsetting. And it like turned out like this great kid. And we were like, oh, it's a kid. Like look, he's that Ellen. Like he was already being abused like crazy. It was really upsetting. What is he doing now? I'm not sure. Playing piano. I hope so. Yeah, but like he probably makes you hate the thing. Of course. Of course. That's really sad. No, I didn't see that. But you saw Ezra was on Ellen. Yes. As a youngster. Yeah, and I guess like that's where he should have been, of course. And she seemed to be being kind to him. Like she was kind to most of the kids. Who was she were to Mason Ramsey? Yes. And Dakota Johnson, of course. And she was her to everyone backstage. Of course, slapping the producer is left and right. But most of the time she hit it well. Yes, especially like under the guys like, look at me. These children. Yeah, really bad when like there were episodes when it was she was. Sometimes she forgot like that. Her mask was exclusively for behind the scene. Her mask was slipping. Yeah, and Mason Ramsey. She like couldn't help but hide her like extreme distaste of him. Yeah, like he was she just thought he was like dumb and like ugly. Like she really like did not do a good job of, a job of hiding it. Yeah, but maybe that's why like he is where he is. Well, hopefully Ezra had a good experience on the show. Yeah, I didn't watch the whole clip. No, but he was like a cutie and he had a like, if you're going to be rude to a paraplegic child, like go to hell. To jail. Like seriously go to jail. Yeah. That should be like an official misdemeanor or a crime. Crime. What's what's what's bigger than a misdemeanor? Uh. We plead something down to a felony. It should be a felony. It should be filonious. Filonious Florida. That's us now. Yes. The loading is because now like if we were naming, if we were starting our podcast now, we were naming it and we're like just today like being filonious in Florida. When Jackie and I launched, relaunched our show with a morning toast. We were so excited. There were so much hype. We were climbing the charts. We were number two for like days. We could not beat this other show. It was called filonious Florida. And it became like sort of like our smartness now. What happened to that show? It was like a one season wonder and this always happens with new podcasts. And this was a big one because it was just like a mini series. Right. And the podcast launch, like especially if it is with the network or whatever, like it will automatically go to number one because that's like how trending works. And we just like couldn't crack the show that because of those feelings in Florida. Done nothing spins and made no impact at the time. And nothing like we've made. Oh my God. Fucking filonious Florida. So we never got to be number one. And that's like why we do have this ship on our shoulders. If you guys are ever trying to understand like where we're coming from. But I think it's so important that we've never been number one and that we never argue. It keeps us hungry. Like I've said, like I would always rather be like number two through 12. Like I think that's where you have peace. And I think like to get to the place where you are number one, it requires great sacrifice. Like kind of I'm like not willing to do. Yeah. No, no, no. And at the cost of your personal life. Yeah. So I think it's it's great. They see it. When we were talking about tennis players, like would you ever be there?
like when we were talking about Taylor and Tommy. - Right, right, right. - Like Taylor's higher ranks, but I wouldn't want that. - No. - Number 10 is good enough for me. - It's beautiful. - It's brand deals. - It's brand deals. - We're all fine. - I'll take it. - I'll take it. So that's how I feel about the charts truly, truly. - Well, what are the stories like today, number two? - The stories are mixed bag. - In a positive sense? - Yeah, I think so. I wouldn't use the D word. - The rec? - I would not call them rec, not at all. I would call them like a mixed bag of fun. - Okay, Lexus Rose. That was so Alexa Rose, a mixed bag of fun. I would say it. - You wanna get into it? - Yeah. - Without further. - I'm battling some flu-like symptoms in case you guys can't. - Oh yeah, that's good. - I hate to complain about it. - No way, it's good to let everyone know in case they're feeling some sort of way from you. - Oh, am I cutting off like negative or anything? - I think you're hiding it well. - I'm battling flu-like symptoms. - They know you better than me. - It's true. I'm really not well. I hate knock-up. Like the thing is, I have an amazing, amazing job. And I just need to do like the one thing every day. I hate to call in sick. Then I was like, I'll do it, I'll do it. - There you go. - And like he could, I'm sure he would love to. Like come over here and promote the good guys. - No problem. - But like I hate to miss. - Yeah. - So I will just have to bring my negative energy to the show, but just letting you guys know if you're reading like into anything. I'm really not feeling gonna do probably here. Like I'm a little, of course. - Oh, sick. - And being pregnant in sick is dreadful because right now all I really need is to Advil. Like it would, I've got a headache. I've got a back ache and I've got a sore throat. Like an Advil would seriously, like I imagine do for me like what heroin does for other people. Like I just, and I can't take it. And so I'm getting desperate. Ben's doing pressure points on my thumb for a sore throat. - God, your back alley chiropractor. - So Ben is really into like Eastern medicine. And most of the time I roll my eyes at it, of course. But when I'm pregnant, like I kind of have no other option. Like sure. - I have to look eastward. - Break my thumb this morning 'cause apparently it is a pressure point for a sore dry throat. It didn't help, but I'm open to these types of things now. - Have you seen this cure? Well, it was probably like six weeks out. But have you seen like the garlic and honey thing? Are you outside of the talk? I think them hoppers, does it? - What do you do? - So it's like you make a jar like peel, I don't know. Fill up a mason jar with peeled garlic. Pour in honey. You like turn it over and let it ferment for six weeks. - Okay, so I don't have six weeks, but okay. - You don't have six weeks. And then it's like a natural remedy. - Eat the garlic. - I don't think you drink like the honey, you pour it in the, like you pour it. - Yucky. - I'm gonna make it for you, I'll see you in six weeks. - See the things so much. - I've seen it so many times. - And what if you're not sick in six weeks? - Well you should last longer. - You know it's like, oh yeah, it lasts longer. It will be ready in minimum six weeks. But you do it at the start of like flu season or like did it in September or anytime. And you just always have it on hand if you're like a prepared person. - I didn't proactively make my jar garlic, sorry. - It's okay, I'll make it for you. - I'm working on a low-free as well. - Yes, yes, I have a lot of things I need from you. Jackie will also be doing the ads today to make sure to pay attention because I don't have the energy to do them. - I will do the ads today and I'm gonna have a feast with them. - So should we show everyone that feast? - Oh yeah. (laughs) - Without further a doo-doo-doo-doo, it's time for the Thessai stories that you need to know. Today's episode of The Toast is brought to you by Amazon MGM Studios and their new movie Varity. Our first story, major news to wake up to Ken Erker, who is Giffsey Rose Blanchard's partner and the father of her daughter. Like ex-partner, I would say like baby daddy. Who knows? With these two, yes. Has passed away on his 34th birthday. So Giffsey Rose's partner Ken Erker has died. He was 34, he was found unresponsive today. His birthday, no yesterday, sorry, October 1st. His birthday, he was discovered by a family member inside a Louisiana home, a source close to the family, confirmed to people. TMZ was the first to report his death. The local sheriff.
that officers were called to a residence in Raysland at around 16 p.m. And he was found dead upon arrival. So gypsy reportedly sent him a happy birthday text and did not receive a response per TMZ. He was later found by gypsy's brother Dylan and his wife when they arrived at the home. So streets are saying that gypsy sold the story to TMZ, which kind of given the details does track. Obviously people are freaking out about this because what are the odds that like two times now, like someone near and dear to you dies. And the first time you sort of are a suspect and you do end up going to jail. She's an accomplice, right? Do you ever deny that? No, no, and I think like a lot of people felt that it was really justified. So like we don't really care why you did it. But now it's like, well, is this a pattern or coincidence? Because I don't know, the odds of it happening twice are just really crazy. Yeah, it reminds me of this book you had for Redhead's Matt Mabel, where it's just like people around her. Keep dying. And then like and her op. What was she innocent? Oh, actually don't worry. I don't spoil it. And it's Sally Hepworth. You should read it. Oh, okay. I do want to say I think gypsy is innocent. I do. Well, I don't know if you guys know this. I have actually met and chatted, um, quite deeply with Gypsy Rose. And I did not get murderous vibes from her. I really didn't. And I think she like really loved being free. Mm-hmm. She doesn't want to go back there. Correct. Like a lot of times if you saw Shawshank redemption, like a lot of times people get out of prison. They don't know how to act and they actually end up back in prison just because it's like a comfort. Well, not a comfort, but like it's what they know. And I think Gypsy, she came out and was famous and rich. Like I don't think she wants any part in returning to prison. So I can't imagine she would do this. I really can't. But I will say I agree with people. The odds of it happening twice are slim. Yeah, the Saada just is always crazy, right? Because like her boyfriend killed her mother. She went to jail where she got in touch with Ken Erker. Is that how they met? Yeah, they met. She had a different point. Yes, yes, she had a husband actually. So that's who I met Ryan. So the couple Ken and Gypsy first connected when Gypsy was still in prison for the murder of her mother. Ken proposed to her in October 2018 and then the couple briefly called off their engagement before reuniting in August 2019. They later went their separate ways again for multiple years during the time Gypsy married and split from her string husband Ryan Anderson. Yes, Ryan, of course. They reconciled in April 2024 and Ken recalled for like how they found their way back to each other. Like I want Gypsy to know there are other men like outside of the two that you met in prison. Well, I feel like it's not like a lack of man problem. No, and that's what's inspiring about Gypsy Rose in general. Is that like you can be this sort of like felon? You need. Lonious Gypsy. Lonious Gypsy. This unique individual. I have not one but two boyfriends like husbands. That's what I feel like when we say to your toasters like it's hard to get a boyfriend. Like it is but looks at Gypsy Rose. Yeah. And you know what? Not to keep bringing it up, but when I did interview Gypsy Rose, I asked her. I did ask her because I didn't want to say like this. I'm like, "How do you keep any boyfriends?" Like and she said, "You just have to be a queen and your king will come." And I thought that was like really amazing advice. That's really beautiful. I just have it, you know. She definitely had it at that time. And some girls like there's all different versions of it. Like, you know, cool girl. Right. There's a girl that always has a boyfriend. Yeah, there are some girls that just like give off great energy to guys. Yeah. I don't know if that's Gypsy's thing because both times she met her. And I think of the obstacles that she has to overcome. Like of course, maybe at first you would think like, "Oh, no. I'm not going to go there. She's in prison." At first, of course. But then like her dazzling smile breaks through. Yeah. And like maybe she's just a great girlfriend. Maybe she's just a great girl. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe not. Yeah. I am not like obsessed with Gypsy Rose in the way. Like culture is obsessed. You are even more obsessed than I am. Like, I'm really out on this. But I can't lie when I saw this headline this morning. I was like, whoa. Yeah, just because like the odds of it happening twice are. Yes. Crazy. They are saying that he died of an apparent overdose. However, this was yesterday. So it seems like more information will come out. It's all going out very quickly. Right. Because people are saying Gypsy like sold the store in the TMZ. And like how you would need to know if like an autopsy if somebody did a drug over to you. Like maybe if they walked in and they saw. It was like needles all over the ground. Yeah. Yeah. And they came to that conclusion. But nothing has been like officially concluded. No, not at all. So my water bottle is frozen. And it's reminding me like when we were kids, when you would take a water bottle and put it in the freezer, like. He's living. He's living. And like on a hot summer night, it would look solely melting. You have this like big chunk of ice. Those were the days. Good time. Do you want? Like it's seriously? This isn't a lead way to drink water. I haven't been finished my electrolysis morning. I'm all out of black. I'm a good. I have a lot. I have a lot. And I have my own lead water. No yours is not frozen. Obviously the producer here prefers me. Thank you. I prefer room temperature. Yeah. So it is bad. It's better for you. Isn't I think I don't quote me on that. Ben just says it's easier to down. That too. Yeah. That's like I like my electrolytes from temperatures I can chuck that. Correct. I agree with that. I agree with that too. But I like my so somehow I can like chug a soda. I don't like warm soda. How's Ben feeling this morning after his big sushi extravaganza Costco? I said Ben went to Costco yesterday. And you know, we don't really have a lot of experience like with Costco. We've obviously been to Costco. You're discovering cops. Yeah. And so like if I've ever been to Costco, it really was not in a meaningful way. I understand that was my experience before the Patreon. Yeah. Yeah. Right. And so Ben went, I forget what he even went for. But like he picked up lunch obviously. And he picked up sushi. And I think a lot of people would be like, Ah, sushi. But one thing about my husband is he stairs fear right in the eye. And he does not care. He fears not. He literally fears not. And he's so excited because he tried Costco sushi and it's like going viral on TikTok. And he said it was delicious. Like he had a couple of notes for like the flavor profiles, but the fish. He said it was extremely high quality. I watch that. Real chill. Like that was gripped to my feet. Of course I was scared. Of course afraid. But I follow this mother daughter duo who is always like trying the different foods at Costco never sushi because they're not crazy. But like the pre-prepared foods at Costco like are some of the most high quality foods on earth. Like yeah. I don't know why everyone was so worried because Ben was he was going to be okay. And one thing we have Ben. He's got an iron stomach. So no negative contra indication. No, he's felt pretty good all night. As far as I know, I did fall asleep literally at like 730. But when he woke up this morning, he didn't have any big news to tell me. Okay, that's good. Everything looks good. So it's got the one to see a lot of approval. Yes. I think he would actually go back. He should. Yeah. Like it looks like no boo. Lunch. Literally. No was disgusting. It's true compared to Costco. So just around of this first story. This is very sad. Of course. Oh, and then there was like also a TikTok live element. The sister went on TikTok live this morning kind of confirming the death. Um, this is where his Ken sister autumn when I'm TikTok live and the night he died confirming his death and revealing that his last words to her were I love you. This whole situation is very smelly. And it rings like the Costco sushi. But at the end of the day, like a man is dead and that's very sad. And he's a child. But everything else around it is very fishy. Going on TikTok live immediately is not like amazing. The streets are also saying Ken's TikTok went live for like a few minutes last night. People are also wondering like why she just texted him happy birthday. Like isn't that her mans? No, so on the TikTok live, the sister did say that he and Jipsy were not together. But they share a child together. Yes. It's a tangle web. She weaves. It's a tangled web. She weaves. So. So. Rest in peace Ken. Rest in peace. And that's kind of all there is to say that's all there is to say rip Ken. At the moment, at the moment. Are you ready for our next story? Alex Earl was spotted out. I need everyone to chill. Zach Bia. Isn't he a professional friend? Okay. I need everyone to chill because he's not a professional friend. Like he's dated Madison beer. Those iconic paparazzi photos of them yelling at each other. He has definitely like dated lots of I think he dated Olivia Rodrigo, a high profile women. He's like a nepo baby, like DJ. He's like literally just sort of it's like faceless, nameless person who's always around. But I need everyone to like use context clues. Because if you've ever seen that episode of Sex in the City, where Charlotte goes to the theater with her friend who she believes to be gay and then as they're getting the cabbie kisses her and she was like, I was wearing my glasses. Alex Earl was wearing her glasses and like great leggings. I'm sorry. This was not a day. This was not. And also her publicist was there. Kate Bailey was there. Like I like how they conveniently left her out of the picture. Sorry, these two were not dating. No, like he's a friend person. He's just like an actual groupie. Yeah, he's like he's a friend for higher in LA. Yes, yes. So it would be like if she were with Jake Shane and they were like 1000% out. Alex Earl's a new man. 1000%. This is so not a thing because that burst. But he is a straight man. Right. Right. Of course, we would know Jake Shane wasn't because Jake Shane is gay. But like, no, when I saw this for one second, I was like, no. And then I was like, oh, wait. No, this is not happening because at first I was like, hell, it is appointed. I'm sorry. Like, no, no, it's just it's not the vibe. But then using context clues, the gray, not even leggings like yoga pants, the glasses, and then the third person. This is not a date. Yeah, no, it's just like catching up with friends. I see friends with sauce. Yes, he's friends with everyone. So and that's her friend. Oh, yeah, right. It was just like when I saw the two of them, I just thought but staff.
maybe Stas had to leave early or something. - Or like, Stas set them up as friends 'cause they're all looking for friends. - Right, and she is spending more time in LA. She is like an apartment there now. - And she's in her friendship era. Did you watch her episode with Jay-Chain? Alex Earl and Ashton. - On the pus? - Yeah. - I did? - Not. I watch so many clips. - They talked a lot about making new friends. - Okay. - It was funny 'cause Alex is in her making new friends, we're talking about her friendship with Stas and how it's been so good for her. And she's not always been like this, but I think this is just about friendship. - Yeah. And I think that a lot of us go through errors. We're like, we're kind of in our friend making moments. You're definitely in a friend making moments. I think a lot of times when you have kids, like you start seeking out mom friends. And so when you moved, when you move, yeah. So I love this, like, make friends. - Yeah, people are trying to make it about Madison Beer and Justin Herbert and Tom Brady. This whole New York post article, they're just like looking for an angle. The first five paragraphs, don't even mention Alex Earl's name. It's just about how Justin Herbert is like, these things seem to Tom Brady. - Madison Beer is like engaged. She leveled up so hard. So they dated for a long time. And if you've ever seen the pop rosy pictures of them fighting, like it's serious. It's giving Wimbledon with Bradley Cooper and Arina. - I love that. - I love that, yeah. And I feel like she was so upset after the breakup. And so you never even know what's waiting for you around the corner, like the glow up of the century. Like he's the quarterback, right, for the Rams? - Uh-huh. - He is so handsome. He's like the darling of L.A. And like why are chargers, whatever it is? And why, seriously, another engaged by that, she's the biggest ring of all time. And she's like at an elite level with like Haley Steinfeld and Taylor Swift. Like, seriously, why would she give a fuck about her old unemployed ex-boyfriend? - No, she's not looking back. - No. - He's not unemployed. He's an American DJ. And he is also a record executive. - Like I said. - Are you ready for our next story? - Mm-hmm. - Ashley to Spell's husband Christopher. - You know what, I can't stand these two. I really can't. - Breaking his silence on the toxic mom group drama. Thank God. - And like we were waiting with Maiden breath for Christopher French. - Who is Christopher French? - I don't know. But she has a like hair care brand called Franchée. And because that's her married name. - It's a good name. - It's a nice name Christopher French. - It's getting American DJ and record executive. - It is. - Like a Matthew Koma type. - He's a musician composer and producer. - Matthew Koma. - Yeah, best known as the founder of the rock band Annie Automatic. - Oh, you're kidding. - No, I don't know. - I don't know them. And Matthew Koma like is like the producer present. - No, Matthew Koma is actually like incredibly successful. But I imagine that this is part of the reason my Hillary and Haley. Nope, Hillary and Ashley at first got along. Like music exec husbands, former Disney Channel stars. I mean, he's finally speaking out. Thank God, I was like really waiting. So he hosts a podcast called "Recovering." - Okay. I assume that's about like recovery from alcohol and stuff. - Yeah, and that has nothing to do with what he said this week. - That's good. - But just know that he has a podcast. Cool. He said we're doing fine. She's a super smart, capable person. And she knows what she's doing. And that's part of what I love about her. You know, he said, I will say, I have no problem supporting my wife completely in her ability to deal with her own interpersonal relationships. And whatever way she feels, she feels is right for her without getting involved or feeling like I have to speak for her. She's a really smart chick. She's a very capable person, which is really what made it so hard. We are very private, but in speaking to something that really matters to her. - I'm sorry, like when you are really private, you can't claim your privacy after you wrote the blog post. - Yeah. - First of all, second of all, I totally forgot that I sprayed so much sure I shampooed in my hair this morning. Is my hair gray? - I guess there's like a one like-- - Don't click Mr. Sheffield? - No, not at all. - Okay, okay. - See, and it's like the top. - Okay. - And then, too. - This is obviously a dig at Team Duff Coma, because he got involved. - Right, oh, I forgot that Matthew Coma did start making content, but the thing is it's over now. So like you just coming in a year later, 'cause we were actually sitting in this studio. - Yeah. - So it's been almost a year. - And to let us know that you're not saying anything and that you didn't say something. - Yeah, to release a whole podcast telling us that you're not talking. - I don't think so, but I don't know if it was on the podcast. - Whatever, to release a whole statement, just to say that you're not saying. - Yeah, I'm all set, that is a way to my time. And now I'm just re-reminded of the fact that like, she did this thing, she played the victim, and then she sold a TV show. - Yeah, and they're making a TV show about it. - Which is crazy, 'cause like in that time, Hillary Duff has like completely revamped her career. She's releasing new music, I just saw a video. Her tour was so unbelievably successful. And it's like, the more we like move into this, like Ashley Tissel just continues to look like a bigger loser. - Hell. - To take the L exactly, even if the show comes out to me, like the next hunting wives or whatever, it's like the origin story is dark. - I know, but like I know where we landed on the situation, like where did the culture land? - With us, because it was kind of like a bait and switch. At first we were all like, oh my God, look at all these girls being mean to Ashley Tissel. And then it was like, well, wait, like people started to learn more about the different members of the group and like how things went down and some of like the background. And then it kind of like flipped on her. And I think she acknowledged that too, and that's a little bit of what he's saying. I think she thought she was taking her power back by selling it to me, it makes her like a bigger loser. - Well at least she can be a paid loser. - That's true. - A moneyed one. - Because you can only be such a big loser like when you have money. - And the thing is like this will be a great show. - Conceptually. - Conceptually, like I don't like the origin, but like yeah, toxic mom, friend groups. - Some of them are famous. - You're like the music class drama. - Mm-hmm. - How is it going down at like that? - There's so much music class drama to the ones that I go to because I cannot sit on the floor. Like that's the drama. - Oh, where are you shuggling? - Just, I'm in a place in my life in like my journey where I can't do floor time. - Yeah, I didn't really like notice it yesterday. - Well that's good, like my back was breaking and also with my flu like symptoms like. - Yeah. - You know? - I was saying I didn't even realize I was sitting on the floor, which is good. - That is good. - No, I'm gonna be aware. - Yeah, and like with coxidinia, pregnancy, there's just like a lot of things that limit me. - You need like a little chair. - Imagine I bring my own chair. - Do it. Well, I'm gonna have music class and I'll give you a chair. - Great. - Yeah. So yes, I'm very much the target audience. - For this. - Do you get lower? - You do look really low. Oh my god, you need help. - Let me just bring it back up. - I'm cracking up. Now you're sitting by the night you're sitting on the floor while talking about sitting on the floor. - I didn't even notice I'm sitting on the floor. - Do you think it's like slow? Have you been like that the whole time or do you think you slowly started to? - I think it was slow. - And it wasn't one big drop. - No, no. - We would have seen that. - And then by the end, I'm like, am I in the floor? - That's funny. - So yeah, we've heard from Mr. French. And I was definitely waiting for this so I'll sleep really well tonight. - Yeah. Are you ready for our fourth story? It's actually sort of related to something that we spoke about previously, which was Ben's John Ticasco. Because Guillermo Rodriguez's salsa brand launches nationwide after selling over one million tubs. - Wow. Oh, so I guess like they've had a huge boost in sales since dancing with the stars. - Yeah, but they haven't even mentioned it. I guess he did bring, did he bring some Whitney, some of his salsa? - Maybe. - I just thought maybe it was like from home. - They're doing a good job 'cause I've just sort of seen for myself on social media and now being like a Guillermo fan that he has a line of salsa. And I'm like, "Oh, that's so smart." And then Ben sent me a picture yesterday that he saw at Costco. And I don't think he bought it. And I'm now like remembering him saying, as we were eating dinner, like I wish I bought that salsa. - I could have used some too. - I haven't heard much, but I imagine it's delicious. - Yeah, because I was having tacos last night actually. And I realized like one clean swap that I haven't made because I like the toxic version is-- - It's Tocito's salsa. - And chips. - I'll juicy that chips. - I will. - I will not. - I'm fine with that. But I have yet to find people like to say like, "Oh, get the ready-made salsa." For, you know, they're cold sauces. - The pico de gallo. - Yeah, but like those go bad quicker. That Tocito's salsa never goes bad. - You guys, the Tocito's salsa. - But I always know I have one in my house. - We can't be perfect, obviously. And like you don't have to swap everything in your life. And I think that if there's something like you can't quit, like your joy, we're not taking the count into the joy that the Tocito's salsa brings you. Tocito's salsa, I imagine it's like full of preservatives because yeah, like it could survive-- - It knows it was bad. - It could survive a nuclear war, but it is so fucking delicious. And you know what, like that's okay. - And I don't want to buy fresh salsa like every time it's going to be taco night. 'Cause I only use a little bit like the my-- - No, this shelf life is so convenient. - My habitual use of it is perfect for my life style. - Don't beat yourself up. - But I was just thinking that yesterday, like I do need to find a clean, like a better salsa. - The thing is I think that like clean salsa's are more so pico de gallo. And like I'm sorry, those two are not the same thing. - No, when it's more so, it's like buying herbs. Like they're gonna go bad so fast. And I'm not gonna use-- - Before you have a chance, yeah. - So I could check out Guillermo's if it's shelf stable. - It wasn't in the refrigerator section. Now that I'm thinking about the photo that Ben sent me, let me see how that-- - I love that. - Let me see how that works. - Oh, he did, okay. - So we're on box. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - So that's good to know. I sort of like need primal kitchen to make a salsa. That's maybe when things will change for me. - I'm pretty happy with where I'm at with my to see what's in salsa. I don't want to get better. Like I had actually for like a snack yesterday, like to see dozens all of a sudden, like, it was just an amazing way to live your life. Like it was just good old-fashioned fun. It's like salty and it's just, they do it well. And I don't want to look at the ingredients. Like I can't be perfect. - No, it's true. I just like, I made such a healthy dinner last time. I was like, this is not-- - Congress with the rest of your ingredients. - This is not me standard. - You'll be okay and you look great. - Thank you so much. - And how do you feel? - You're fine. - You're fine. - You're fine. - You're fine. - You're fine. - I'm like, oh, I'm still using to see the salsa. If people knew that about me. - It's not-- - It's sort of like-- - It's on brand. - It's on my street class and percent. - In the clean community. - Well, Guillermo's launching nationwide. I think that's wonderful. This is just another example of how the show, like really has such a positive impact on local communities. And I love it. And you know what? When Ben goes back to get more sushi, I will tell him to pick it up. - Yeah, it'll be in Kroger. And I don't know why he didn't. Like Ben is not one-- - He's like a big commitment. - Not only that.
Like me, I'm like, I'm sweeper, I'm cardboard. I'm like, forget it. Ben is more is more. - No one, it's like you're allowed to buy a jar of salsa. - Are you though? - No, you're not in my house. - You're allowed to. - No, not if it's not to suit us. But I could see to stedos making an acquisition. And I just wanna say this also being named gear, most is like a great name for a salsa company. - Yeah, no, it's very synergetic. - Okay, we'll have to do a Patreon Costco test taste test. - It looks good. It looks good. - Well congrats, seriously. - Yeah, I didn't know that was happening. - Minoiva. - Today's episode of The Toast is brought to you by Rothy's. Rothy's is the shoe for everyone. Oh, she's not talking about-- [LAUGHS] You didn't even know we brought up this story. She never wants us to talk about it. OK, sorry. Kelly Clarkson loves AI, but says AI artists shouldn't be competing with humans on music charts. Are there real AI artists already? No, except for I'm so glad my traveling made it to the big game. And I've never heard an AI song. First time in San Juan, mi ego, capital of Puerto Rico. Yeah, I don't know if there's bands who are making ways in the industry, but I guess that is the future. Yeah, so she was on Miss Colch, and she explained that while she loves AI technology-- And spanking her children. She doesn't feel AI artists should be competing on music charts with humans. She said, here's the thing, I love AI. They are very amazing things with AI and obsessed with. But also, and I'm very into it artistically, too. I have fun with it, just like everybody else does. Are people in the industry using AI? I feel like they're all always making their statements about how it's bad for the water. Ooh. She said, but when you see AI artists competing on a chart with humans, I have an issue. I think there should be a separate chart. OK, but what about human artists who are using AI, like you just said? Not only that. And again, are there AI artists yet? Is this a problem? But also, like-- and I'm going to actually disagree with Queen Kelly on this. The truck drivers aren't having to be on separate trucks with robot driving cars. Correct. And I don't know, the thing about music is sort of like the best song wins. So putting separate categories in charts-- I don't know, I just feel like it's not a meritocracy. I agree. And I think at the end of the day, AI music can really only be so good, because music and art is one of those things that needs a human touch, right? So like, I actually don't think that they pose a real threat. AI artists pose a real threat to human artists. I agree. Because music is all about that. We were saying like, Instacart, human connection. It is. And like, what the person has been through. Right. Can I relate-- what has AI been through? Nothing. Nothing. Except for like disrespectful people. Not saying please and thank you. I think I'm the most respectful user of AI. I'm not. And I feel like that's what keeps me from becoming one of those people who has like an AI best friend, or like an AI boyfriend. It's like, because I don't talk to them. Like, I talk to humans. Like, there's no delineation. I know you're a machine. But when the war comes, you're going down first. That's fine, honestly. Like, I really don't think that I would do well in any war. Like, I don't like food rations. And I'm certainly not like getting into combat. So fine, take me down. They're going to say, yeah, and I think mine will spare me. Like, I feel that for my own help, I think it's actually very easy to quickly become one of those people who's like talking to chat about like therapy stuff and like issues they're having in their personal life. I actually don't use chat for that at all. I feel like the fact that I don't say, please, and thank you. If I was seriously asking you, like, hey, can you please measure this for me? I would say it's so differently. The fact that I don't helps me delineate between what is real and what is AI? And I think like people who are so polite, like the same way you would talk to a server, you would talk to your chat. No, sorry. Chat's not real. Chat's not a person. You don't have to give manners to chat. I just, it's in my nature to have manners. And I'm proud to say that I don't talk to chat about like personal, emotional stuff.
And I think that like when one does, - But I'm like, you know, more sound of mine than most. - But I think when you get to a place where like you're actually like talking about your feelings and stuff like I actually think that's bad. I know like therapy can be like inaccessible and perhaps unaffordable, but like I would definitely encourage you to talk to a human being. - But no, I, not no period, no comma. I've heard of people like using chat as their therapist, famously Craig Connover. - And I didn't necessarily hate it. And now I'm curious if I like put into chat like a conflict that I'm having, like some conflict revolution, like resolution. I wonder what their vice would become like. - Yeah, but you're coming at it like completely unemotionally. Whereas like everything you talk about in therapy is like so emotional. You're just like looking for a conflict resolution. Whereas like people in therapy are like, but my feelings. - No, maybe I can't see it clearly 'cause I'm too close to it. - Maybe. But I just think like certain things like music are better with a human. - Yeah, but like, when it comes to math and robotics, like yeah, if I'm a mathematician, I'm quaking. AI is making me quake. - Yeah. - If I'm an artist, a musician, a therapist, I'm okay. I'm not losing sleep over AI. If anything, I think AI can help me make, like Kelly said, make my job, make me do better. But no, I don't think they're taking my jobs. But like if I work in an assembly line at a factory, I'm going to night school, you know? I'm figuring out an alternate plan. - Yeah. But which industry, I mean, I guess coal mining is sort of AI proof. Which, okay, if you're an athlete, I feel like that's also like AI proof. - Kelly makes an interesting point. She said, it's basically like having Olympics and then you're having robots compete with humans. Well, who's going to throw a further? Oh, I wonder. - Okay, actually, you know, when she was talking about two separate charts, I was also thinking about two separate Olympics. But I was thinking about parallel Olympics. Like why can't parallel Olympians perform, excuse me, not perform, compete in the regular Olympics? - 'Cause is it considered an advantage to have like a metal leg? - No, but I would have to like look at the stats, but are they just not, like would they qualify? - Would they qualify, right? And it's like then they don't even get a chance. - Right. - Fine, okay, fair, fair. - But that's not what AI is, 'cause AI has like all the capabilities. - Right, so like yeah, they could start putting like AI robots like on the field and-- - Like that's not interesting. - No, it's not. - 'Cause you'd like to learn about the athletes, like what have they been through? Who are they dating? And like we said, AI really hasn't been thrown up. - And like you want to see mistakes. It sort of makes the game. - True. - Like we watched on Sunday night. Ravens versus Cowboys. - Right, and then there's like a comeback and a setback, AI can never. You know, I do think there are industries that are proof. We've said many times being daily pop culture podcasters is sort of an AI proof job. But we use AI here sometimes to like, you know. - Yeah, ask questions. - Yeah, it helps us with our show, like our fact. Sometimes we make images for our social media. We one time did that episode where we had chat, create a episode of The Toast for us. And we like followed its outline. - Did we like it? Okay, let's do our final segment of the week, which is Queenie and Weenie of the Week. And every Friday, Jack and I like to wrap up the week, giving out an award, Queenie of the Week, and Weenie of the Week, it's pretty self-explanatory. If you act like a Weenie this week, you will be the Weenie. Like it's sort of an unavoidable thing, but don't be worried 'cause you could also be Queenie the next week. It's a seven-day title. And actually this week, I've decided sort of, we're not doing Weenie because it doesn't feel in line in the spirit of who our Queenie is. So I've actually found out this morning that Brooke Ebby, who if you, you might have followed her on social media or you've found her on the toast, like what was it, like four years ago? I kept getting tagged in this TikTok and it was being, it was a video from this girl named Brooke, who had just been diagnosed with ALS. And she basically was like, here is my bucket list. And one of the things on her bucket list that she wanted to do before she passed was coming on the toast. So Jack and I were like, all right, it's okay. I'm like, no problem. We had her on the toast. She ended up like after that, kind of having like a hugely successful careers like an ALS advocate. She was like on the today's show. She just really never stopped. And I follow her and then the last year, you can see like her condition really deteriorating. And so she, you know, was confined to a chair and then to the bed and she was wearing a breathing tube. And then I found out this morning that she passed, which is so sad and just really upsetting because I remember when she came on the show, just I remember thinking like how unfair it was. She was like our age and her whole life like just changed in a minute. Like she found out this thing and she knew she was gonna die. And she had such an amazing attitude. Like she was like, I remember asking her and I felt bad, I was like, I don't know if I should ask, but I was like, aren't you scared? Like when you think about the future, like what do you think of? And she was like, I don't really think about it. Like she just had a really great attitude. And I remember like, she was so funny. She was so funny and she never like lost that, even when you see her social media posts, they're like kind of crass and you're like, oh my God. She never lost her sense of humor and it's just a really big like loss for everyone. And I think like we could learn a lot from her, which is why I will not be doing Weenie this week in the spirit, even though I just know she would have loved it. And she probably would have wanted me to make Derek Huff, my, but I won't, I won't. So I just wanted to like let everyone know. I don't know, I just, I think it maybe happened yesterday and I saw it on Instagram this morning that she did pass and she will be missed and she was a Queenie and she's kind of our first ever posthumous Queenie. - But she is a Queenie. - She is a Queenie. So rest in peace Brooke, we loved getting to know you. You are an inspiration to really everyone. And a Queen, a Queenie. - Yeah. - And with that. - Beautiful. - Thank you guys so much for listening to The Toast and Learning Morning Show. Where we do live at the past five stories. You need to know everybody through Friday and YouTube. So every watching us on YouTube, please try for describing this video thumbs up. Oh, also like in the spirit of Brooke, like make a donation to an ALS. That's like what's her big thing. Like she really felt like ALS could be cured if they had better funding. Like she kept saying that like she was like wishing a Kardashian would have had ALS just because of like the attention and the money it would have brought her. Which was like also a kind of crazy thing to say. And I was like, oh, so make a donation. Things went, no, no, no, no, no, no. I was like, guys, I was like, leave the five story of you about a beautiful stunning and wickily town to be our hubby. Guys have an amazing weekend. And we will see you back here on Monday.
