Fantasy Midfielders: Under-priced guns and rookies
49m 59s
The podcast centers on selecting midfielders for AFL Fantasy, emphasizing a mix of premium and value picks. Premium players like Bazlenka and Bontempelli are favored for consistency, though early byes pose challenges. Value options such as Zach Butters and Sam Walsh are highlighted for their scoring potential relative to price, with cautions about tags and injury risks. Draft discussions recommend targeting young breakouts like Harley Reid and avoiding aging veterans like Leigh Montagna. Overall, the hosts stress balancing proven performers with undervalued talent while considering bye rounds and role changes for optimal team structure.
Welcome to the official AFL Fantasy podcast with the Trader. Today with the Traders I'm Roy, I coached Destroyer on here with Warner. Go to the Warner Dogs and Calvin. Coach of Calonator. She's engine room time boys, we're having a look in the midfield today. And I'll tell you what, these options of all levels, clean of price, options of plenty, is that the same? That's what we say, really. Well, that's what we say in the midfield. And I guess, Doug, I know where you're going to want to start. Oh, where do we want to start? Let's start here. Keep on rolling, baby. Roller 22. Eight of them though in the midfield, because at the time when you midfield, we select in classes. We certainly end. I know you can't say it. It's a podcast, but I am with them. No. Without a big blanket here. It is like that, isn't it? It is. It certainly is. And it is splitting here at the moment. There's going to be justifiable top eight names that I have to leave there. I have to leave out at the moment. Yep. And there's guys I like that haven't got themselves under the blanket, but I do have a current list that is sought by everything quite slightly. I like it. You ready for it? Right, let's go. Well, some people think this is a little bit off, but I am rolling with Baz. It has to be. I don't think you need to get pretty with this. You don't? He showed nothing last year to me. He showed nothing when he didn't play. There is though, but I just don't think he's dropping off that much. He might end up averaging like one four or eight or something if there's any drop off, but I've still got Baz at number one. I think the guys are dead. I think he's still hungry to have his hands on the footy at every opportunity. So he's number one. Oh, I like it. And he has to be there. He does have to be there. Number two of gone bond. Who really unlocked a whole new level? He finished very well. He finished extremely well. You'd have to say too, like that average could feel under his, because he's sliced up, because remember he popped that calf. Yeah, he did. And exclusively found one like hell. See, that was another, like we get a bit disrespected with things like that. We broke that. We did. It should have had an advantage to it. Yeah, credit Kelvin sitting in the stand. Sneaking in between. Just throwing going on. Okay, then we've got Dacos, Dawson, Dunkley, Gordon, and then I've rounded it out with Merritt and Coldwell. Oh, both of them. Yes. And that order. Merritt and Coldwell. It's in that order. I need to show a little bit of respect to Merritt. I think so. With this head to head match up with Coldwell. So I've always got very cool issues. Yeah, I snuck him in. For you more than anything. I think he did it too much traction. Remember when he went at the 11th midfielder off the board in that draft the other day? Well, that was the 11th midfielder off the board. Oh, he got a nose in Roy's top eight. Roy, he paid him influence. He was not the 11th midfielder off the board. He was. I guarantee you. I promise. I apologise. I shouldn't have given you that much. Something worth noting there, destroy, of your top six. Yeah. Only Dawson is one without an early boy. Yeah. And that is a challenge here. It is because it makes it all a little bit interesting because I think I'm in the mindset where I'm going to take all these guys on because the guys just out of the blanket that don't have the buy. I think they're really good. Going to be good options as well. Yeah. No doubt we'll have a chat about them as we go on. But that's how it sits at the moment. It's very interchangeable. There's like, you think about the names that I've left out of here that I like. Butters, Bracer, Walshi, even so wrong. Like they're all big names. They could easily be in there. But at the moment they adjust to even Jack's deal I think. So these names that were throwing out there then Roy on this list basically you're rolling 22. How many could you justifiably start? Obviously Kyle said there. Yeah. All those early boys out of the out of your rolling 22 out of your start. No. Yeah. Is there anyone that you might? No. At all. No. No, Coldwell. No. Wow. See Merit and Dawson have popped into my teams. Yes. Yeah. At time. So Dawson's a non-early bi-plier. Yeah. So. But then again look what you're paying for him. It's a lot. So that's what he is. So the only one that has spent time. I don't mind. The team I released the other day that had Merit at number one. Did it. So I have flirted with the idea of that. I don't like chasing Uniques but when I see someone as good as Merit who I think is going to have a good year at 2% ownership. There's where I don't mind finding a Unique. Someone like that. But Merit's the only one I've considered. My current team has none of the my role on 22. I've considered Error when I know he's got the early boy. Yeah. But I feel like there's upside in that. Oh, there is. One or two. He obviously had the same. But he still won two. Sin desa start with. Yeah. But would you be surprised if he went at 110? Do you know there was. There was time. Because he's down at before. I've pumped out the role on 22. There was one time. There was one time. One time Error sat at top. Did he really? Yeah. Really? Yeah. Right. I don't know if there was a little glitch in the crowd here. The mic, right. But yeah, so no, Dog, I think there is huge upside with Error for sure. All right. So let's look at the value then. So we'll bounce around a couple each year. Kevin, you're in charge of the midfielders this year. I love the midfielders, Dog. You do. It's where I start. My team. You normally start in there. You don't run anywhere out of there either. So I'm going to kick it off with the value of Zach Butters. Now obviously priced at 100. 99.9. Which is under the 1060 did the year before. It's that early run that's going to give you another line here. So I'll remind everybody. Oh, the Green Moe. Kangaroo. Kangaroo. Kangaroo's bombers. West Coast. Richmond. St. Kielder. It is just the juiciest of juice. Yeah. And he will be the front runner and getting amongst that. Now he does cop tags. That's the flag with him. Yeah. Well, we do remember. Oh, yep. So it's July. I don't remember that. Cop detention against Hawthorne as well. He meets them around straight after the Green Moe. So yes, he could have well be averaging 110 leading into those games. Yeah, I think he will. So just a little flag on him. But I think he's a very popular pick. Everyone's doing it at this point. Well, I'd like to think so. Even the way they're going to tweak their style of play is going to suit him incredibly. Like he's going to have a huge year. Contract year. Yeah. No, no. It's still boxing. That's very good. Those pale boys. Who are you saying, Roy? Well, she, I know I'm going to be quite predictable with that. But Sam Walsh. Early by? He's hadn't only by it. But he's the only early by midfielder that I'm really considering because he's had an uninterrupted preseason. And when Sam Walsh has uninterrupted pre-seasons, that's where he is next level. Like that's where he's a 110 guy, which would leave him hugely underpriced. In 2024, he averaged 106. That would have him as the sixth highest mid going into this year. And he's capable of certainly adding to that as well. So, Walsh at that price is an incredible bargain. Now, at this stage, I have decided I'm going to probably sit it out until after he's. Oh, okay. First buy. I think. I think that's the approach I'm going to take. Unless. Yeah. Scores. So he's got rich many around one. Yeah. Then the boy. He's missing that. Followed by Melbourne Kangaroos. Do you know him? Melbourne. Which should be pretty good. Yes. Melbourne is a team, I think he bullies. Like I think he's got incredible history on Melbourne off the top of my head. That's a nice little run after that. Oh, it certainly is. But yeah, he's definitely a value pick. Right. I'm going to have to say, Dassy Parish, Sean and I, if there's a bomb of something with everything that I say all the time. Well, there he is. He's getting annoying. Oh, it's actually relevant. Yeah. So, Parish is priced at 72.4. To be exact, only played in three games last year when it ate five. Obviously injury issues is something there that's been sitting with him for a bit. And games played has not looked very pretty. But this preseason is going all right. It's true. Dog's not making that up. He's not legit right. He tore up there. We've seen him do hundreds before. Like that one. I like that one. I said average lucky. He's actually a fair way under what he's actually what he's capable of doing. Now, do I think he's going to hit those numbers? It can probably get close to the hundred maybe. But there's enough value there to be going. You can start that. No, early buy. Do you know what I like about him is? Well, what number binana are you seeing there? He's got to be right up there. So, in the first couple. Third. What did he say? Second. What? I don't know. He probably does play. He can play the half forward role. Right. No, don't want that. Because I think he talked about Coldwell. Coldwell Merit Parish. Yes. Right. Iron there. Probably Durham gets a bit of a. Yeah, so he's going to have to do something else other than just me, isn't he? Yeah. And everybody that's sort of half forward. He's also just safe of any form of attention ever. Yeah. Yeah. Now I reckon he's a great one dog. I think he's an easy pick for us. And I think you'll be obviously he is super popular. Yeah. But yeah, I think we all can all can go on. Do that. He's in a third of teams at the moment. Yeah.
And the paperwork went through the other day. It was quite a celebration by the family. He's often never again. Is he really? Yeah, so he's often never again. Okay. Dig it at least. Yeah. COVID year. What is 20 minutes? What was it? 30. It was just not human. Like, it was not a human effort. What did he do that year? Don't take me back. Don't do it, dog. Take me back. So, 2020, they applied. He had 37. And it just sat there for weeks because the season was paused after a few days. I was thinking to you, June. What's the thing that we got back on the tour? I was such a bad dad that day. I was a mountain biking and a mountain bike track. And I could feel my phone going off in my pocket. On a good son. And it was like, dog and their eat. I was like, okay, this is either going to be really good or really bad because I knew that Spud team of these were playing. And oh my god, I thought he was taking the mickey. Oh god. Oh, but we're picking him. It's going to be good. So, we have to see this preseason that gets through those games. And so, even if he wasn't a magnet in the middle at the first set of bounce or center ball up, I've taken him off for a reason. He's in the tank. Good alright, back to K. I'll give us another name made as a very mid-fielder. And we'll probably go through a theme of these underpriced premiums. We are. We're going with Sarrong, who's priced at 93 down from 104 and 108. Yeah. Thing is here, only 13% ownership, which is incredibly low. Considering the run they have at the start as well. People have lost confidence in their competitive. They have. Now, he hasn't forgotten football. This is the number one banana at the docker. Yes, it is. Clear number one. Yes. He hasn't forgotten football. No. He can go 104, 104, 104, 104, 16. Easy again. Easy. So, he's 13 points under. And like he said, I love his second and third game. Yeah. And he's in. Because he's a dude with a ceiling too. One of the, he could pop a 140 in one of those. Yeah. Yes, big time. Tag watch would be a concern for him. Yeah. Because he used the number one tag five there. Does that midfield get a little bit busier now? You've got Hayden Young back here in there. Well, they even had Young. Like he. No Jackson. Even Hayden Young gets attention from time to time. Yeah. So, I don't know. I think he's clearly 10 points under no early boy. 13% ownership. Yeah. I can't believe it's that low. Move on. Right. Yeah. Well, I'm going with Jack Steele. Like the man of, we know he can score as well as anyone in the game. He's done it before. Last year, his numbers were down. He still did well to finish where he did. Because he was pushed out of the midfield. He had some horrible little roles there. Precise, it looks good. We know strapping tapes equals bad scoring. Yes, we do. And there's been no strapping tape to this point. So I think he's going to be thrown in the middle. He's going to be the biggest filler of the void creative vibe. Big time, Petracker and Clary. Yep. I think he's going to embrace that. And I think he's going to be really good again. Oh, the clear cut number one banana. I think so. Yep. So, yep. That's an easy pick for me. He's still a lead point per minute guy. And I think it's going to be racking up again back in the middle for Steele. What do we need to say in the precease? Well, that's a good thing. I think that's a good thing. Why does sometimes Errol get sat on the cold wing? Don't I gloss over the other day? It's thirsty. Yeah. He was hungry. He is thirsty as anyone else has. Let's look at him. We've got the biggest Gimme Picker the year I think. And that is Jagger Smith. Now Roy you're celebrating every time you watch the good training footage from the blues.
and then ran any chance. But it's just the West Coast factor. If he's there, you just might need to do it. And if that fits your structure of what you wanna try to do 'cause he's currently not in my side. - No, I think we'll regret. - I don't know if I'm overthinking that. - Well, I kinda think we'll regret not doing it when the guys we've taken a punt on for cheaper are out by around four or five. And he still just ticking over his 55, 60, weak in, weak out. Probably worth the extra 100k. And I think so. - Now it's got to February. We need to start getting a little bit, more sensible with some of the things that we think of in the season. - Oh, yeah, silly things. - I've done it. - Dan Annabelle. - Does he genuinely play for Brisbane? - No, he doesn't. And it's real disappointing because we had our points. - He's gonna make the grand final team destroy. I don't know. I don't know about that. I've seen some best 22s leaked. - Leaked. - Yeah, leaked. Oh no, I feel like I'm gonna, and it was, he's not there. - Isn't he? - Yeah, he haven't got him in. Now that he's a gun team. - That he's a gun. - That he's a gun. - That he's a gun team. - But like people like Ashcroft have just come in and played every game. - Well, the Estadstown. - Remember he was gonna be subbed though? Just ran away, and then he's a laid out or something more than anything. He was right. - So how are they going to do that? - I don't know, yeah, he's still what. - He's what? - It's like he was not a writing him off. But I think we've, we've done all of our little glass half for everyone's playing, everyone's scoring well, and all that sort of stuff. I think we just probably temper some expectations with a lot of these points. - So it's gonna be far easier to lock your spot into Richmond, Esseren and West Coast. - Yes. - And Brisbane. That's what we're saying with that one. - There you go. - So yeah, there's gonna be a few there. And I think our structure, if you're looking at that, a lot of people are probably three rookies on field type thing. And then your other five players on field are probably the Enterprise premiums. And I think there is gonna be that, the M5 is that super value player. - Yeah. - Which, no, it's not. - It's interesting. I think that's where that is. - Yeah. - That's certainly how I'm looking. - Well, of course you are, because you're pretty smart, just drawing. And got really good feedback on your team. - You did, it actually. - It actually did. - It was weird. - All right, let's look at some draft stuff. Now midfielders obviously in draft. They're gonna take up a fair bit of the chunk of your first few rounds, because they are the most prolific scores. They're the ones that if you got captains on, you're probably gonna have a few a lot safer with as skippers. And yeah, that's what we're doing. We're not sort of probably saying anything out of there. Draft as well, we start thinking about the actual job security, but actually playing games. That's an important factor there. And hopefully with these midfielders that we are gonna get them from there. But we're looking at how we might adjust things in our draft rankings early on. Let's look at a playout that's going up. And a playout that's looking down. Let's start with the ups though. Who you got there? - Well, I'm going back to Harley-Reed. - We're fair. - With the 67 next week's name. 30 breakout on the card. - What do you have it? - 67. (laughing) - Actually, I should've just said 66 points every time. - I'm not casting a road line. - Oh no, Roy, you gotta stop doing it. - I'm trying to be cool and hip when you're-- - Come back to school. There's nothing. - Yeah, the kids. - It's that razzles the kids up more in class than doing it. - He's like a poorly-sarned, a poorly-sarned kid away from it. - Yeah, sorry, kid. - The cool kids don't do it anymore. - I know, that's why I'm just-- - I don't need the new party. - The kids are too good at it. - I'm not too good at it. - Harley-Reed, he's 20 points under what he could possibly be. A great little one to bump up with a light pick. - Yeah, great. - Are you confident? Like, it's one that, yeah, it's a punt, but it's one that you're not probably-- - It'll barely be a punt at the stage you take. - Yeah. - Exactly. - Hey, boy. - Hey, young, for me, now I don't think he's going to come out and set the world on fire, to be honest, but that's 63. - I agree. - Like, I mean, you put 20 on that without him thinking. - 30. - Yeah, so, yeah, and it will push that 30 years forward on. - He's shown enough over the years as well, hasn't he? - Definitely. - He can score. - Yeah, the thing I like about him in draft as well, I would not be surprised at all if he ends up with DPP, and it could be on the end of the ground. - It could be. - It could be, honest. So, yeah, I think he's just a great one. I'd love to pick him up with a later sneaky pick. - After you take Harley-Reed Care, you might consider Joey. - It's a late pick job. - You know what? - I know. - Joey. - So, he didn't play, so therefore he's got a zero average next to his nothing. - And depending on how dirty draft he is, - That's a good idea. - Is going to have to pick him. - A few years. - A few years. - Depending on his face draft. - He went at 90. A couple of years ago. - He's got the yoke and dirt. - Like, is it? - He's a really good player. - Can't play. - Like, people laugh about it. - The dude's a bull. - He is. - Like, he's an old school flat track bullie out there. - It's a draft watch one, - Yeah. - Because Rolls - is going to be another part of that. - Yeah. - It's where exactly what he does. - And he's body, which has already got issues. - Okay, he's on a deep pine. - All right. - Where we go for a down. - On someone that you're sliding down, - the order based on their average and what they did last you. - I'm dropping Leiba, who was, he was a ton last year. - What did he play his half back? - Well, before that, he was 98. So we actually exceeded what? - Well, he thought he would. But the dude's about to turn 34. - Yeah. - So he is not going 100 this year and he needs to be bumped down. - Yeah, he's good to watch. - That's an easy one. - Yeah, I can't see the value in him at half back. That was really interesting. - Yeah. - Is that happening? - Well, that happens. - It's not his style. - No, it's not. - It's not gonna be the Kangaroo. - Anyway, I'm looking at a dog down as well. Kennedy. - Oh, I'm a massive Kennedy fan. - But that comes from. - Straight midfield, 97. - We just didn't see him being the straight midfielder. Did we last year? Like that was the thing, like that. - Yeah. - That would have been a nice, well, we would have performed a lot better if we'd picked him at the circle last year. - Yes, exactly. - And then we talked about him and we just go, "Oh, it's just not happening. We couldn't see it." - And Hockey's Rolls fluctuated a little bit, but gosh, when he had-- - He sat on the pawn a bit too. - Didn't he? When he had a good roll, he showed he can still score really well. But you're not launching in at the 90s. - No way. - And expecting him to back that up. - You've done two dogs. I'll do another dog or next dog. That's Jack McCray. - Oh, that's the commoner of these, you one. - 91. - Yeah. - Or Jack. - And now he's mid-owningly obviously. - He's flying on track. - Oh, no, that's the thing. Like, maybe this is not a great one to be saying, you know, just, but my adjustment is more about going, "I just don't want shares in that. I just don't want any thought and risk because we saw what happened in round 24 when he was vested like he was starting sub." - Yeah. - Well, look, what's there? Oh, I don't know. The Saints and the Midfield, like it's going to be a bit of a-- - Jack, Jack's not tracking in a great direction. I don't think. - No. - Easy. - No, I'm not gonna see you with the head. - You're not doing it in draft. - Yeah, a fair bit of adjustment of these will be from injuries as well that we've got to look at, but like we always say, do you draft as close to the start of the season? - Yeah. - Just ideally even it might be after opening round because some of those ideas-- - Oh, that's true. - --will actually help you out. Especially if we're seeing a bit of a change and we're gonna talk Rucks and the next podcast, but, you know, those Rucks rules, do they change things for midfielders as well? Like, if there are fewer stoppages, and it may not be by much, but if there are those few there, that's a few less disposal. That's a few less tackles. That's a few less things that are happening. So maybe, yeah, a little bit of a watch on that, but still, your midfielders are the ones that are gonna be scoring you. - Yeah, you got a knowledge. - The points along the way. So yeah, get your draft league set up now at fantasy.ofl.com.au. Pick your date, get your league members all together and get ready to rock and roll for what will be a pretty fun season? Of course, once again. - Got a question for the traders? Tweet the boys at afl fantasy or head to facebook.com/afl fantasy official. - All right, we've got plenty of questions through, so we're trying to answer as many as we can about the midfielders. I do feel like the position, though, is a fairly in classic and even in drafters, just, you know, straight back. Straight back. - Let's go through, you're probably gonna do a ride. I don't think there's gonna be too many different players mixed up in here. However, you can obviously find your little bit of value when you need them and confine them. So afl fantasy on x and also, you can find that on Instagram too and don't forget there is the other social media channels like the Facebook page for old people like Cal. - That's it. - You use Facebook still? - I love it. Observer AFL once in a row. - No, which big three score more? Okay, so it's combos here. Green, Callahan and Clary, Anderson, Rao, Petracker. - Anderson, Rao, Petracker. - So we haven't talked about-- - I haven't talked about-- - My, I mean, my opinion. - Haven't talked about most of these guys throughout this. So let's talk about GWS to start with. Green was a 110 guy. - Yeah. - Where's he now? - Look, he's not that anymore, unfortunately. - No, he's not. - Yeah. - He's 100. - He's a 90 score more than him. We'll leverage more than him. - Yes, he will sort of take a bit of a step there. - Yeah. - And Clary had that bit of a calf set back. Like, does that help? Green? A bit? - I don't know. - I don't think it does. He's always gonna be in there. - Yeah. - But yeah, it's the goal coach. - The goal coach combo is better. So, why Anderson, Rao, and Petracker? Now, on that two, like Anderson, for example, he looks like he could be some value.
- Yeah, good boy. - Good boy, good dude. - Especially at the start of the season, I think he might go a couple of whack-wacks. - They've got good games, don't they, Cal? - So it goes for them. So they open with Jolong, which is gonna be tough. But after that, they go West Coast Richmond. - Yeah. - And then the buy. - So you could Roy, you could for a two week play. - Yeah. - Blow, you could be winning the car. - Yeah. - 'Cause right off, Anderson will go one, 20 in those two games. - You would think so. - So Anderson went at 99.5. He'd gone 100 plus the two years before that. Missed out on doing the three, the try-affected because he had 48 in round 24. - That was inexcusable. But so, you could reassess at that buy round. If everything, all the ducks are in place and you can cover that, you could just go, oh well, that's fine to keep him for the week. If disaster had struck and you desperately needed points, you could then flick him, I guess. - You definitely could. - I've heard people talking about doing it and I can't blame them when you have a look at that draw. - So they share that buy with Hawthorne. - Yeah. - We probably don't have anyone from there. Sydney, if you wanna go away from Gould and then Bulldogs. - Yeah. - It can be covered. - The move is in play. The move is in play. - Jim's Jets does say it's a perfect line for a pod play to start the year. So could be you. Well, you talked about having merit. - Yeah. - For the two percent ownership. - Yeah, I don't mind it. I don't love the bomber's fixture to start. That's the only thing that would stop me do it. But yeah, there's gonna be some people that you can pick in the midfield that are pods that are not out there, season-recking pods. They're like, they're gonna be good players. - Deal says, could you start read and parachute expecting 20 points upside for both? - I agree, there's 20 points upside to both. - There is. - But I don't need to be-- - Can you do both and yeah? - I don't need be going parish out of those two. - Chase in the 20 points, I reckon you'll get it. - I think you'll both of them. - Yeah, if that's what you want. - If your maths works and that's what you want, I reckon you're doing pretty well. Mitch has said, what's the most expensive play you'd consider starting with an early buy? So Sam Walsh, Procitor 93, Callahan at 99, Gould and 102. So there are quite a few. - Yeah, I heard. - And that out there. - The expensive I would consider is Gould and-- - Because he will be atop 8. - Yes. - The other known as we mentioned that. - But you'd probably pick Walsh ahead of Gould and-- - I would for the value of it. - Yeah. - Yeah. - I like both of them, but I'd definitely only have one of them. - Yeah. - Have we not given Callahan enough love, like 99? What does he go to though? - If Callahan didn't have an early buy, I'd be giving him a lot more love, but I don't think he's much better than that. - So he can be a one 10 at some point. - Yeah, definitely. - I think he'll be 105 this year. - Yeah, so when he's lost 15 games last year, he was 104. - Yeah, that sounds about right. - So he got off to a slow start. - Yeah. - Actually a hot start. - Yeah. - Then a slow start. - Yeah. - And then he hit that 105 mark from here. - I was the fan. We talked about him hard last preseason. And he didn't disappoint. - Yep. - Mason says, "So he's the best mid from 400 to 600K. "Currently have will broady, but not convinced." Yeah, I'm not convinced. - I'm not convinced. - I'm not convinced of many guys there. Unless someone pops their head up later. - I can't offer an alternative 'cause I have not shopped in that area and have no interest in shopping in that area at the moment. - It feels like there are guns and rooks or the, as we say, the underpriced premiums and rooks. - Yeah. - Gentome man, can you fade Cold World with Parishback? Now that's probably the thing about Cold World. Is that things are gonna be different. - Might have been inflated by that lack of passion. - The stats there though. - No, I haven't set it to this one yet. I've put it on this podcast. - Oh, what was it? - 16.5. - Yeah. - Something like that. Hang on, I'll rip it down, don't we? - So he's ownership of 16%. - Too high. - I'm saying yes. For a guy that is frequently injured. - Well, I'm not doing it. - 16 games in the last two years, his average of 116.5 when he's gone 60% CBAs or more. He's gonna go 60% CBAs. - He's built to score. - He is. - He's got runs before that in five game run. Before that injury, it was 117.8. - He's very good. - Right, I'm not saying that. - But then it's, yeah. - So you've got a Parish factor there. - So what's he priced at? - So he's priced at the 104, so 103.6. - That's more, that's a lot. That's a lot. And with the risk of Parish returning, the risk of injury. - Oh yeah, I think that might be not as much for him. - He's alright, isn't he? - No, no, I'm not. I just think 16% is way too high. And there's a lot of people that would take advantage. - I'm surprised it's so high, to be honest. - But dogs talked it up, it's easy. - No, it's not more. - I think other people love as well. Which I've seen, which makes you feel like I want to get off. Because so many others are thinking about it now. - Yeah, I can. - Don't know. Right, David, who's a third midfield rookie with comfortable with fielding? Sharp and Jagger are locks. But the third is a bit up in the air, with Ulyndin defense, Annabelle in there for me currently. But I don't know if he gets a game, yeah. So could this be if we did get those defender for peace that you might have a, well, it doesn't matter who it is, but a midfield, a like, you know, Jagger Farrow for the ball. - Yes, definitely. One could slide in for sure. We should have no trouble with that DBB link. - Yep. - Because you got Grille as well. - Yeah. - Right, here's one of those ones in that really mid-price range from Sebastian. Wanna know your thoughts on Cully? Is he someone cheap enough for what we could get after one to three rounds if he's going well in the role is good? And that's probably a really key part to that that you get him after. - Yeah. - You see that it's okay. - Yeah. - The role is good. - You don't launch into that one? - No. - But you could, if, yeah, he could force your hand. I don't think he will, but it's not one you'd take a risk on without saying it. - Like he's 514K. - Yeah, it's a lot. - Yeah, it is. - It's a lot. - He's, is Haley Reid not, why is Haley Reid not getting any love? - Well, we're getting rid of you today. - He has that a bit of you today. - Yeah, so don't worry. We're seeing what you're seeing and he does deserve the love. You could do it. I'm not telling people not to. - No, no, no. - For the record. - No. - But if he puts 20 points on his average and all of a sudden he's the highest score at West Coast. - Yeah. - Right, is that really gonna happen? - And we talked about. - Cool. - It's probably on that West Coast pod. What is his career ceiling gonna be with an average like him? He's got the tools Roy. - He does. - He's a good guy. - He does. - But does he, like, you know, at the moment? - At the moment. - Yeah. - You think this is my score rate as twice. - What if on the off chance, like Eagles are actually going well on the scoreboard? Haley's obviously having a good game for that to happen. - Yeah. - What's the first in your position would do? - You're a spot on Roy? - Just take Haley out. - Yep. - And he'll get, like tag on. - Yeah. - That's the other thing he's a hot-edged. - Yeah, and then you get stuck in a couple of negative reasons at all unravels. So I'm a big fan of Haley Roy. - Rickenies awesome. I reckon he looks really fit too. - He does. - But it would be a no for me to start. - Rowan Lockout does say, or what's your current midfield structure? It's looking like I'm currently going for premiums. One mid-pricer and three rookies. And that's probably about where, but how do you define that mid-pricer, I suppose, is the price of them? - Well, for me at the moment, that's parish. - Yeah. - So are you calling him a mid-pricer? - Well, I think so. - Yeah. - Oh. - That's what it is. - Oh, oh my gosh. - Oh, I can't. - What a dog. - Smoy dog. (laughing) - Is that a bird crashing into the window? And what dog the dog's thinking he's gonna eat it for lunch? - The real tough cavernous. - Hey, you got him? - He's got any. - Don't act like you. - Oh, happy with these work, though. - Man, damn. - Fly away, little birdie. - Haley, that was intense. - It was. - Yeah, parish is my, yeah, he's a guy in my traditional mid-priced spot that I have in the midfield at the minute. - Kale, when you must have a fan here in Chloe. - Hey, Chloe. - Who's the biggest trap and treat for the season? - Ooh, yes, trap and treat. - Trape and massacre. - I'm not gonna be near you, you're under a fan as you're ready, trap and treat. - Who's a trap? - Oh, there's a, put me on the spot. I'm gonna go, Will Brody's a trap. - Okay. - Yep. - Treat? - Yeah. - Just looking at my team. - Okay. - Kale, he's a treat. - Yeah. - Yeah, he will be a treat. - Hey, she's talking about midfielders. Good, they're up. (laughing) - Have you got a midfield treat? - The smack out there. - Butters, Gordon. - What's the doorstep? - We got Gordon. - I've got him. - He talked him down, though. - And Chloe's no longer a fan. (laughing) - Might have reala that. - Grannie wants to know, could you peek Hayden Young over Sarong? - No. - Sarong goes better here. - But like, he's right. Young is cheap, but it's not cheap enough. He's not enough value. - No. - Young still priced at 80 cents. - Yeah, he's not priced off that average of last year. - Oh yeah. - So no, I'm bigger on Sarong than Young. - Sarong's only, what have I got there? Like 50, 60 came more. - Yeah, yeah. - Ben, is there a two-week play on Anderson with Run then Into Walsh? So, this is a question that does get thrown out a little bit from people. Can you do that? I think we did see Chris the winner a couple of years ago do that with Tom Green. - Yes. - And it worked. - It did. - I think too, because that's when he got injured as well after that, so it sort of made it work even better. - It did, it worked even better. - Yeah, so you need a little bit of luck sometimes, but.
So planning ahead too far ahead in fantasy. It's like dangerous areas But I really like what you're thinking there it might get to the point like I said earlier on you might take Couple of one twenties from him here Yeah, and then you look and you're fielding still fielding 21 or 22 players and you just like oh well, I can cover him easy enough something or Pump out a 90 or something and then you still got him coming out of that Boy, so you might not have to trade At that time you might still be able to keep him if you're in luxury mode and you've off through a great great start You want to just keep chasing points within you in yeah, you could so that's it's known as a man-made green mile Yeah, right? It's when you can construct it yourself. Yeah, okay, so you're going west coast Richmond Yes switch to Welsh. Yeah, you go Melbourne North Melbourne. Yeah, so you've made a mile You've made a mile and you can do that. I don't mind but sort of a trade Yes, and you've made a mile so yes, you can do it and you will have actually Made some cash out of your mile too. Yeah, it's like down great This is very craft not following the yellow regret following the green road Could you actually do a little set of trades for this sideways So you made a mile a very big mile 1,000 miles You could be on to something you care. It's out of the bag Sam parry was so he's still in one material could you go with him? I Guess the only thing is that like If you don't have I'll say I've got butters I'm picking butters over steel Pricewise and it's that's how you ranking them but could you go that cheap as your top midfielder? I think you could I think it leaves you slightly weak though I reckon steel is a good second or third one. Yep to have there agree Cold well or Merit Roy you're ranking Merit ahead of cold well and the Rolling and he's cheaper as well. So therefore the answer would be Merit for you. It is care How does he not come out angry and just go doose doose he has to think he will he has to yeah Like of all the what went down he has to come out firing. I think he will I think he's gonna be really good. He got sacked as captain. Yeah, didn't he know what he stepped down That's the same thing. Yeah, anyway, he's coming out and going bang. Yeah Merit Locky wants to know why is nobody taking bond in their team So just paying his part. He's a lot. He's actually at a hundred all Evan isn't it? Yeah He's too much for me with an early buy yeah I cannot possibly pay that for someone missing that early agree We're gonna have to get him at some point. Yeah after he's buying like around 16 Yeah, he's got a nice little juicy run happening then right and we're wanting by that point Yeah, there's reasons why he could be picking him though if you're thinking like what do you go out a couple of years ago like hundred and seven I mean, yeah, like he's a beast like and the way he finished the year makes you know that the 111 is possibly under it is It is under yeah, so it once again if you want someone who should shouldn't be as unique as they actually are That's it. That's a good one So GWS first up for him. Yeah, he's a tough one. It is Jimmy goodman Once did I patty Kouten on his back grips? He's he worth it and does he improve this he improves has to be the others Yeah, he can push it you do it. He could push back towards a hundred Well, he's actually cheaper than you mate while she yeah, he is He's another one who's looking super fit 89. Yeah priced at yeah, so I Think he's looking fit too with old. I think while she's gonna out average Creeper I think so but creepers more of a draft slider for me. Yep. Don't want it But I think he's definitely yeah gonna put some points on that for sure Ah oska says he's guns and rooks away to go. I think we've sort of come to that conclusion a bit every week There are some guys though that you need to seriously consider with that mid price value. Yes, don't go overboard Just one or two. Yes, and young's name has popped up a few times here must be a few three-o supporters. Maybe I don't know Not he's just priced at that 87. Yeah. Yeah, right. He's an interesting one wind haga Can you fit him in we had as a fitting with the new St. Cure the midfield mix well think it's his role he played well in their last year So he's not gonna find his way out of it. Yeah And someone I mean is probably gonna throw away the tagging roll is such now do you think yes? I think that's gone Let's hope so yeah, that's not good for anyone. No, no him at sort of an 82. Yeah, does he go into the 90s? He should hit 90 nice one to bump up in draft, but yeah, Jesus take a It's he need to be going a hundred yes in classic. I think for that to be a worthwhile pick if you're gonna say that Yeah, and someone like that where you're humming and aaring if you then tell me they've got an early buy I'm just like okay. No, thanks. Yeah Cisco Hutch horn Francis If he wasn't under done because of the run seriously consider that yeah Like you think someone like a horn bag a Run like that he could just come out and blow it out of the park or smack it out of the just too many What if question marks clouds hanging over him at the moment with that little foot injury? It's it's really keeping on keep it on Mark Kenny celebration is saying will Ashcroft will every will Ashcroft will average 110 yep But is the early buy enough to not start with him if you think he goes at 110 you start with him and ignore that early buy I think he can go 110. What's he priced at 90 seats? You you start that you where you hit on that if you think he's going at 110 especially if he's obviously gonna do that over the first couple of rounds Yeah, yeah, okay, yeah keep him in your mix, but once again, I just don't like thereby. No, not at all He had some low scores to he did you very low scores. Yeah, they have to be a thing in the past now It is 41 61 66 66 and that's why he's a bargain yep Yeah, he's definitely unders he's not doing that rubbish. He shares the round to buy with Guys there that we Who do you prefer out of him and Welsh? Oh, okay, hmm I don't know it's a very great question. Yeah great question. I know I don't have an answer for you. No Flip the coin and expect it to it's very probably probably Ashcroft Yeah, maybe Duke Newcombe average 80 6.4 last year. Yeah, what does he do this year because I know he's a good option He's unders it's about 94 isn't he I think so Just yeah The way the hawks go about it. Yeah, and he's a tackle machine he's used He's a no for me. It's early boy. Yeah, but yeah, he's a good player and he's unders. So is our midfield gonna look vanilla? Is or there's just a few options though that I think the Differences might just be slightly between who you're peaking Will we have the same midfield no? We want there's gonna be more Differences than we expect in people's midfields. I think through these value premiums with cold I think our backline will look similar. Yes. Yeah, yeah Rucks would be interesting, but midfielders. I think that's where we got to get a little bit of outside of Jagger obviously and then whatever rookies get named But as is probably the only one that The consensus sort of pick yeah you guys would be surprised who I've currently got sitting at m1 So it's different to what you put up on a fill calm. Are you a few days ago? Yeah, well every time I go to the toilet One truck you need to Do you want to know or should I keep it a stop? Yeah, tell us concrete feet. Oh, Rachel So we haven't given him much love here. No, you're trying to keep it a secret. Oh But then I decided I share I'm racial yeah, so I've got racial and so wrong so he can go better. Yeah, but what's gonna happen with the Freodoccas 4% ownership. Yeah, well they score great points. Well, I think they have to I think they will and I just love that their second and third Round I think they could get me off to a superstar and if Braille's already annoying me by then I could have a luxury trade he could and just get on someone who's killed at the Tednerly by maybe construct your own Scarlett Harden. Yes, yes you can Yes, man my green mind. Yeah, that was the midfielders plenty to chat about there plenty to think about over these next few weeks as we lead into round one So make sure you're getting your team sorted at fantasy. FAQs
Baz is ranked number one because he remains hungry for the ball and is expected to maintain a high average, despite some concerns about a potential drop-off.
Sam Walsh is underpriced and has had an uninterrupted preseason, which historically leads to elite performance, making him a bargain even with the early bye.
Zach Butters is popular due to his favorable early fixture and potential for high scores, though he is noted to sometimes attract tags, which could affect his output.
Darcy Parish is underpriced but comes with injury concerns and potential role changes, such as playing half-forward, which might limit his scoring upside.
The early bye complicates picks, as many top midfielders have it, leading managers to consider alternatives without byes or plan to trade them out temporarily.
Managers often aim for three rookies on field, with the remaining spots filled by premiums and a super value player at the M5 position to optimize budget and scoring.
