- I'm not putting my baby in a pumpkin. - Put that baby in a pumpkin. - Who is it for? - Yeah, I'm excited. - The baby's don't want to be in a pumpkin. - I thought Halloween was for the kids. - It's so poor focus. - My kid, trigger treating, does not want to go be staring your spirit of demons in a face. - That's good for some licorice bites. - It just feels a little weird. - Did you ever do a sexy Halloween costume, Abby? - I surely did. - I want to see. - I deleted the one picture on my Instagram 'cause it was pretty boob-alicious. (laughing) - What costume was it? - I don't know if I've ever been. (laughing) (upbeat music) - Welcome back to Always Here where your host Abby Howard. - And Abby Howard. - How you doing? - Woo, we're good, I know. I feel like getting the like two hours to record. It's like so fun, but getting to this point, and like, whoa, a lot has to happen to just like get away for two hours, and I'm like, well, switch gears. That's how I was a few minutes late today too, just like getting, moving all the parts to be able to leave. - All the gears. - I know, like why is it feel like, especially kind of challenging today? - I don't know. - Mom's can't check out even some little bit. - For a little bit. - I know, but we're here, we made it happen. - Yes, heck yeah, we'll always make it happen 'cause we're always here. - Always here, exactly, exactly. - Maybe a fun episode today. We're gonna talk a little bit fall, a little Halloween, a little do's and don'ts, the take and the pressure off of the mothers. - Mostly we're just talking about the things that we're opting out of. - Yeah, which I actually have a lot. - Yeah. - Things have to go off the plate. - We need a pressure-free holiday season. - Yes, I love that. I need to embody that because I feel like, I'll be the first to say that to other people, but then for me, I'm like, let's just, you gotta do it all. - The table's big enough, just keep loading it up. - I'm like, no. - Pressure-free, we have to eliminate things and so these are the things we're just, we're gonna say no too. - Yep, we're gonna say no. - We're gonna do it. - We'll do it. - We'll talk about that later in the episode. But we would love to start an episode sharing the hope and the hard with heart and humor. That's kind of our motto here on this podcast while we're all about. So we'd like to share something that was hopeful from the week and something that was hard. - Do you want to share first? - Well, my heart is I got food poisoning. - That was challenging. - I felt so bad for you. - I think it was food poisoning. - You don't think it ever had? - No one else could say. - Yeah, I don't think I've ever had food poisoning except for literally Sunday night. So just a little backstory. I'm just gonna call them out, Target bought some salmon there and here's the thing, there were so many warning signs. - Really? - I was looking through the packages of salmon and all of them were expired and not even expired by like a little bit, like expired from like September. - Wait, what? - But I found two packages, I found two packages, that weren't expired. - Wait, why'd you keep going? You were digging through it and you said, these are bad, but I'm committed. - I was like, there's gotta be something that aren't expired. - Wow. - Yeah, I guess so. - You had it in your head that you wanted that. - I'm telling you, I should have turned away. I ignored a lot of red flags to get to this point. - That's alert number one. - That was alert number one. I'm like digging through portions of salmon, raw salmon. And I found one, I was like, oh, found a second one. Perfect, that's all we need, two packages, they each had two portions. Get home, start cooking the next day. And I opened it up and my, that's the odd color. - Yeah. - That's a really weird color for salmon. Like gray pink. - Which salmon's like pink, but this was gray. - Yeah. - Gray, gray pink. - Yeah. - And so I was like, well, when I cook it, it's not gonna look like that. - Right. - Perfect. - Well maybe they just think, oh, maybe they use less dye. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Maybe it's just a farm raise, maybe they just ate something different. - Or wild crop, maybe they just ate something different. Maybe they are, I don't know, but my, I'm not an expert on salmon. I was like, well, just cook it. And then I was like, it has really squishy. But I was like, it's not how I normally buy salmon. I normally buy salmon from a counter. And so I was like, it's been sitting in juices. So that explains the texture change. There's always a reason. Keep cooking it. I ate it, didn't taste good. - Really? - Didn't taste good. Didn't like the first bite, didn't like the second bite. I finished it. - Yeah, you're hungry. - I was hungry. - I was so hungry, we had a really late lunch. And I was like, sitting there, I was like, okay, well, I'm full now, I'm fine. I actually did feel fine for a while, for a long while. Because all the family dinner, we had a lot of people over, cooked it all, and then I get myself a bowl. And it wasn't until I looked down at that bowl and I was like, that sounds terrible. I don't want to eat that. And I was like, maybe something's wrong. And that looks to me, he's like, I feel a little nauseous. I was like, me too. And then all of a sudden, I'm like, I can't eat. I'm not eating. And then I was like, I'm feeling like I'm over dramatic. It wasn't until I was nursing and sitting there, I was actually at a new technique covering your mouth helps. - I saw, I was sitting in a braille, you can hold it in. - I was sitting at the kitchen table and like, what's going on over there? - I'm sitting there nursing right there. - I walked over, your face was gray. - I was like, there was no color in your face. - Well, I never, like, I didn't want to check on you. I was like, I'm just going to learn. - We're going to pretend she's like, I want to talk. - I was horrible person. - I was fighting demons. - Okay, I was really just like sitting there with my hand over my mouth. - Oh. - Cause it works a little bit. - Yep. - And then there's no more fighting. - But my dad's like in my ear. He's like, you know, you look like this girl from Ethan. And he's like talking about Flores P.U. And he's like, no, seriously. You look, I'm like, dad, I know who that is. That's a really famous person. - Just like going to the factory like this. - I'm literally like, I can't talk. - I'm just like, taking the shallowest breath in. I looked, I think I looked at you and I was like, I'm gonna throw up. - Yeah. - I'm like, unlatched, fisher, run to the bathroom, puking, but also pee all over the floor. - Yeah. - Dang. And I was just like looking at the toilet. I'm like, how'd I get here? And then I'm like, mad, mad. Cause everyone's over. I'm not walking out with me. - Can we all keep you? - We all know. - I'm not gonna walk out of my pee-pee pants. - Right. - You could hear me. - No. - Oh, good. - I need to tell everyone. - Yeah, everyone. - Well, but you kind of made a couple of comments like, I'm not telling you so good. I feel like I'm not gonna eat that food. That isn't. - Yeah, I was talking through. I was talking to you. - You were talking yourself out of it. - When you had on the couch when you were calling that over, like before you went to bathroom and you couldn't, you're you cause he was at the sink, like washing dishes. I was like, she need you. - She need you. - She need you. And so Matt comes and brings me new clothes and like, bless them, clean up the pee. And then I went upstairs cause I was like, I don't know if this is contagious, but people are probably certainly grossed out. And so then I went upstairs and then I could not finish nursing him. I literally to keep, I would like, unlatch him, send the vest in it, run, puke, and thank goodness for his old friend. - Wow. - That's not your status. When you are nursing and you, okay, puking, but also if you get hit with the number two, it's like you have to go to the bathroom and you're saying, it happened all the time in the morning with the Vee cause you know, it's like the morning time and I'll just be sitting there like, just like, I can't go to the bathroom so bad. - I'm nurse on the toilet before. - Sometimes you have, yeah. It's an emergency. - After the coffee, if it's not timed right? - Yeah. - No, exactly. - Exactly. But if you have like an emergency like that, a bathroom emergency and you're nursing, oh my gosh. - It's the worst. - It takes another level of strength. - Yeah. - I think goodness for the old friend. Why is that stuff not over the count? Apparently it's, you can just buy it anywhere in Mexico. - So next time I'm going, I was talking about, I thought it was over and I was over the counter. - No. - What a prescription. - Really? - Yeah. - So what do people, is drama mean? Over the counter? - Yeah. - Yeah. - That's for motion sickness, though. - Oh, it's different. - Yeah, so friend really knocks it out. - Well, I threw up one, but then I kept the other one down. - Uh-huh. - And it really worked. And then I felt much better. - Wow. - Okay, then you went to the gym the next morning and I was like, is she on drugs? - Is she okay? - The fact that you threw up, got you back in time and then went to the gym in the morning. I was like, "Is she recovered?" And then you came to my house for a play day. I was like, "Colay in bed." - You called me on the way home from that play day. You're like, "Yes, so I threw up yesterday." But like, it's off. I'm on bed. - I'm on bed. - I just had some pop blood vessels in my. - I did. - So many freckles. - Yeah, I was like, "It's fine, you can tanning." - I just pop blood vessels all in my face. There's some like really big ones underneath my eyes, but the makeup really helps. - Oh, it was so crazy. It just came on so fast, it left so fast. - Good. - I really think it was the salmon. - For sure. - Yeah, 'cause there was two packages. One of those packages is not good. I guess Matt didn't get it because he didn't. He ate the other salmon. - Yeah, but he won them from my package. - I mean, if the bacteria was maybe just on whatever, PCU8 and it irritated that belly. - Sorry, that was a really long story about food poisoning, but it was just really, it's my worst fear. - It was, I mean, it was all there, really scary for me. And you guys were all there. It was very public. I felt bad for hosting. I was like, "Well, just vomiting." - What happened after we ate dinner? So we'd already eaten. - Okay, and I was like, "Well, what can we do?" - It was also the first one back too, that everyone was back. - Everyone's back, and it's like. - I have a pretty good day. - That was great. - It was a delicious meal, yeah. - Thank you. I'm eating it now. - Good. - Yeah. - Wow, it was really good. - But no, I felt much better the next day. - Yeah, it was about me at a great play day. - A little hundred percent. I could tell. I was like, "I, she your built a friend dude." I was like, "That's insane." I would at least be like, "Oh, my back is so sore." I just need to sit down. - Well, that's how we went. - When you were sick, like two weeks ago, I was like, "Guys, cancel everything." - She does, if she sings, she can't do it. - She cannot. - She cannot do it. - If you will make a way. - You will. - There's no way. - There's no way. Don't say that about me. - No, it's true. It's a great characteristic. But then when you're like, "I can't," it's like, "Okay, no, no, no, we're not even gonna do it." - That's very nice, guys. - We trust your word on that. - Don't show up. (laughing) - Well, my help on it.
hand that just been so much time outside. It's been wonderful here. I feel like I'm out of a prison a little. Well maybe I shouldn't say that because I've never been a one. It's been really hot Abby. I didn't want to upset anyone's maybe been to prison. Don't want them, I don't want to be on their bad side. I'm not the group of people I want to piss off. I'm just kidding. I got to stop all my head. Anyway, I just feel this is great to be outside. So I got to say. Yep, sometimes yep. Am I hard? Am I hard to say? I was short-tempered this week so. I know and then surprisingly enough I looked at my calendar. Oh that makes sense. Every month. Does that mean you're in the luteal? I'm for sure. Every month I'm surprised by it. You know, and you think after 30, after so many years I'd figured it out and then every month it's shocking. It is a sh- oh my god, I don't know what's wrong with me. I don't know what's wrong with me. And then every month it's the same thing I know. So that was funny and I think it's been my hard like three times because I'm always shocked by it and every time I come on this podcast I'm like oh man, I was just so wish or no wait all week from nothing from nothing and it was my luteal and I was surprised. So here I am. Just saying it again. I hope as I had a good coffee this morning. Oh we'll look at that. Steadfast coffee so. It's so good. I remember I was all obsessed with that honey lavender one they had. Yeah I got both of their seasonal ones because they gave one to Val. I got pumpkin pie. Yum. Yum. It's not too sweet. That's what I really like there. They're really dish nailed it. And then the other one was like a brown sugar sage which I was a little scared because remember we had that sage one. I know the rosemary one. It tasted like potatoes. Yeah it's like dinner. We were like we ate potato coffee. We ate potato coffee. It tasted like a side dish. And we were like yeah Thanksgiving vibes. We had a lot of bad coffee in Newport. They don't know how to do it. I know. No that one was good though I tried. I got it because I was like can I drink that. She was like do you want to try it? I was like yeah. Yeah I did. I waited. I looked at it for an hour. It took her a long time. Really? Yeah Steadfast. That honestly really perked me up. Because when I found out that we did not coffee being this morning I was like that's a bad feeling. It's a really bad feeling. I know. That's when I know I'm maybe addicted. I'm like this ruined my morning. I had a sinking feeling just because I was gonna have to have decaf. I know. I had other beans. I know. But it was just like a. It's your rituals thrown off. Yeah. That's really what I look forward to. So I treated myself. Steadfast is so good. Yeah. If you guys come to Arizona. I went so far away. It's in Nasa. It's so far the way. I went there once three times in one month when I was obsessed with that honey lavender because it was so good. And Kale got the salted caramel one. Which I don't know my like salted caramel. It's just it's not overly sweet in the flavor. How do you like salted caramel? Do you like salted caramel? I'm gonna be pretty darn close. Pretty darn close to what? Steadfast coffee. Sorry to stop talking. When he's talking that's like you got to know. You will be willing. Every time he come over we'll see. I'll expect coffee regularly. I'm just kidding. I had a good coffee. We had to saw a play this morning because it was my mom's birthday. Which is really good coffee there? I thought it was delicious. Yeah it wasn't overly sweet. I had a pumpkin spice latte. It was so good. And we got the coconut lime tart. I love keel and pie. I have to find new that about you. Yeah it's not one it's not something that I advertised about myself. But I do love it. Okay. Yes. I like coconut. Okay I like coconut but then a lot of coconut things to eat I don't like. So I think it's like I'm really picky about kind of coconut I really love coconut. I know. Like there's certain coconut things I'm obsessed with and then other coconut I'm like that's not. I get it. Some of it tastes like sunscreen. Maybe that's why. Like some of it feels a little more artificial than others. Or maybe even the texture of it. I don't know. There's no consistency with me with coconut but I do like some of it. I was delicious. I didn't text your mom. Yeah texture it's a birthday. She's getting older. She's getting older. We love it. Well that's great. Thanks for sharing. Adi did you want to share? Yeah I can share. Adi had kind of a crazy beat last week too. I feel like you had a really clear hope in a heart. Yeah I'll share just because it was a little crazy was I guess it was the day you guys were leaving for Newport. So it would have been like two weeks ago. We had our doctor's appointment. It was our 28 week checkup. Yeah. Or anatomy scan. So we got to do the ultrasound and I was so excited for this appointment. We go in and I could tell something was up in the ultrasound. Like the tech just wasn't like the most overly friendly. She wasn't really saying much. Not even just like small talk like she wasn't making any small talk while she was doing the whole ultrasound. But then we were when the doctor came and told us they said our baby was measuring 8% which anything below 10 is when they start they diagnosed you as fetal growth restriction. And so they sent us to a specialist. Because of that but also they were they noticed low blood flow or restricted blood flow in the umbilical cord. So they're thinking that might be the reason why the baby was measuring so small. And so we weren't able to get into a specialist for a week after that. So that week was very very hard of just the scary feelings of I knew probably the most realistic worst case scenario was that I was just going to deliver early and have a small baby maybe even be in the NICU for a couple weeks. And that would be the most realistic worst case scenario. And um that made me sad just thinking about. And then the day before we actually recorded that the day before my appointment. And I was just that's when I let all the like the lies come in about like really bad things that could happen. And um just not that I wasn't capable of taking care of a baby that was sick or or needed extra help. And so I had a that day was really tough. And then when's the last one say when we had the appointment I woke up. I woke up at 4.30 in the morning because I couldn't go back to sleep because our appointment was at my appointment was at eight o'clock. So it was right in the morning which was perfect. But and I woke up I felt fine. Like I just felt a lot of peace and that everything was going to be okay even if things weren't great that like we were going to be okay. And I went in the ultrasound tech was amazing. They're actually not called just ultrasound tech sonographers. They're real name. Um I learned that. But and she probably was telling me things she shouldn't have technically but she was like everything looks great. Like everything I'm looking at looks fine. She we didn't get any pictures at that last ultrasound and I was like really sad about it because especially when they're like your baby might not be healthy and then they give you no pictures to look at to be like that's my baby. And so she got me like I have 55 pictures and videos on the email them to yeah. So I'm like I have everything I have her feet and her toes and her legs and her hand and her sucking her thumb like it was just so sweet. But then she waited till the very end to look at the umbilical cord because that's what I was mostly worried about and she didn't really like confirm much for me but she was like this is looking good. Like she wasn't like saying too much but I from that I was like this is good and then at the end I was like what from your measurements because usually they like throw it up on the screen and you can see like where your baby is measuring. I'm like what is she measuring and she's at 40%. I'm like what's so different. I would have thought like maybe 12 or if it was going to be a little different but it being that different was just like I was like God works miracles. Also the baby could have had a grocery or they could have just had bad scans. And I was asking the doctor I was like what do you do you think the baby had a grocery or we just got bad scans and she he was like I think the baby probably wasn't in a good position. But I'm like even if the baby is in a bad position can it really be that different. But so 40th percentile and then we go into the doctor and he's like there's no issues with the blood like the the umbilical cord or anything and so it was just like such a huge relief and just like a mental load like it was crazy so how heavy it felt and then the next day I was like I can breathe yeah like it was so weird waking up the next day and just like feeling so much lighter especially after a week of like being in the unknown for sure. So that was my heart and then my really good hope for that and it was sweet too. I mean anytime I feel like you see your your spousal emotional that something it's always a little warm and then the heart especially for people who are and so Blake unfortunately had a work trip so he wasn't able to make that appointment which he wanted to cancel it just so everyone knows and I was like go if there's something bad you can't do anything like it's okay I have so many people here like it's all good. And the the ultrasound tech was like I'm glad your husband went on his trip because everything was so fine but when I called him he was he had just gone through security at the airport and I could hear him tearing like breaking like his voice was getting like it was so sweet just so like he can't see him but knowing like while he may not have shown it exact he wasn't crying every day like I was That like he was like mentally really like just
disturbed by it too, and it was heavy on him. - So, baby's perfect. - Yeah! - He's great! (audience applauds) - Oh, I do have my appointment tomorrow with my normal doctor, so I'm so curious to see what they're going to do. - She's going to be a great experience. - What happens because, did you guys also know I learned this too that your OBS and then your specialists, they measure the size of the baby on different scales? - No. - What do you mean? - They, I don't know, he was explaining it to me that they use different systems of measuring the size of the baby. - Wow, that's interesting. - So, their 40th percentile is probably a little bit different than what the OBS are. - Oh, interesting. - I wonder if they're a little more conservative on one of the sides of. - I bet the specialists are probably more. Like, they're supposed to be super cautious. - Yeah, I feel like there's probably be more strict. - Yeah, I don't know. - Anything, just really. - I only had scans at a specialist the last time. - Yeah. - And they were still pretty old. - They were what? - They said, they said fishers in the 33rd percentile. - Yeah. - I remember with CJ zero, pretty off too. - They knew it was really 10 bucks. - Eight. - Eight. - And we had a scan every other week up with CJ and it's like a trimester and they were. Third size, he was off too. - But. - They were small. - They're two of the best I can. - I'm like, as long as there's no issues with the embellic cord, I'm like, cool. Like that, I don't care the size of my baby. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't any issues that she was gonna have to, if that was the case, she was gonna have to be delivered early. And so that's where I was a little more freaked out about in the realm of also moving into our house and Thanksgiving and Christmas and the baby. - Yeah, you were just thinking, you were thinking about everything. - Yeah, so that's my little baby update. - That was such an easier prayer. - I started crying when you said that text too. - It was so much relief. - It was so really. - And I, like, when people feel it with you it's just, I don't know that I've ever, I mean, personally, especially in like pregnancy and things like that, that personally is one of the hardest things that I've done. Just like in my, like with my body, my pregnancies before. And so I'm like, just watching so many people like surround me with love is like, so like kind and sweet. - Right, I just felt really loved it. - So we were so relieved. - So really, with you, I mean, yeah, we're not supposed to carry those things along, you know? And especially when it's something as big as, you're carrying life, you know? And like the pressure that already is on a mom, just in an exciting ways. But then when things get hard, it's like, we're not supposed to carry that, you know, by or so. So, yeah, it was, we were so relieved. - Yeah. - Thank you needed for sponsoring this portion of today's episode. Abby, did you know that 95% of women stand nutritionally depleted, even while taking a standard prenatal? I did not know that. Most are dose to the bare minimum. And gummy prenatals are often the biggest offenders. They taste too good to be healthy. - Right, needed to spend four years actually working with formulators to break through that ceiling to create their prenatal vitamin. - Needed new prenatal multi-gummy, a prenatal delivering the same clinical dosing standard as needed capsules in a gummy form. You just take three gummies a day with or without food, which I feel like without food is very realistic. Swallowing pills, especially in the first trimester. - Oh, it's pretty tough. - Thankfully though, the needed gummy has eight times more nutrition than the leading prenatal gummy. And four times more than the average of leading prenatal. So, yes, you're taking the gummy, but you're still getting your nutrients. And it's easy to take. The needed prenatal gummy also has postpartum benefits, which is exactly the season that you are in. It supports continued recovery with the same clinically studied doses of full late B6 and vitamin D as the capsules, which is really easy to keep up with even one handed with a newborn. - Give me one right now, toss it in my mouth. (laughing) Head over to thisisneeded.com and use code always here for 20% off your first order. That's THISNED.com and use code always here for 20% off your first order. - So now let's talk about some wild cradies. - Okay. - Yay. - Let's go. - Wow, that's pretty. - That cradies. - You sure are very good. - Yes, please. - Yes, please. - Yeah, tell me about that because I'm curious. - It's so hard to take your baby. - Don't take your baby. - No, just kidding. (laughing) - What's this for there? - Yeah. - That is you. - And another baby. - His first movie. - His first movie. - Her fangs. Can't wait to tell him about that. - He's gonna watch it as a doll and be like, "Hey, do you know anything about watching a movie?" - Yeah, we go. - Okay, I know nothing about the book, except I remember just hearing that it was very sexual and scary. That was all I remember, 'cause it was the first Colleen Hoover book that I ever heard. And I was like, "Oh, should I read this book?" And so I was like, "I don't think you'd like it." It's pretty scandalous. - So what category are you thinking this movie is? - Or like the book is? - Well, you told me about the girl sitting on the stairs. You told me about that. So I was like, "Okay, it's a horror sex book." - Okay. (laughing) - Really wasn't like that. - I would not have described the movie like that. - Horror smut. - That's what I was saying. - Horror smut. - I think it's good. (laughing) I think the movie leaned more way more in a thriller. - Yes. - Oh, that's fun. - Yeah. It was a thriller. It really was a thriller. - That's the things I don't-- - I was scared. It was thrilling. - I don't think people understand that it's a thriller and they're getting very disappointed in like walking out feeling very like disturbed. And like that is the point of the movie. - That is a very disturbing movie. - It's a very disturbing movie. And then the ending makes you, it even more confusing. - So it's just like, it's a movie that you leave and you have to figure out like what happened. - It's like there's like takes like what do you, it's very unsettling. Like you don't know, it's not conclusive. - Yes. - But I will tell you, I thought it was exactly like the book. - Yeah. - Exactly like the book. - They did cut out a kid though. There was another kid. - That's true, the older one. - Yeah. - So she, in the book, she actually two kids died. - Oh, I remember that one. - But I was like listening to people's, this was better on this. - Is that like, it would, the movie, it all moved so fast that it would just start being really unrealistic if like another kid that, like when in a book it's kind of paced out a little bit different than in a, interesting. - So that's like other people's takes on like, it, I felt this too that I didn't feel like there was a strong build up between Jeremy and Lily. - Yeah, Jeremy and Lily. - Yeah, I was kind of first of all like, why are you fighting over this man? - No offense. - What's especially about him? - I feel like he could have been a little more more than okay. - That's just what someone told me when they were like, 'cause I was like, what's the sentiment online about the movie and they were like, everyone's really disturbed. They also think that they could have cast him better. And I didn't think about that when watching the movie or after the movie, but then I was kind of like, you know what, that's actually a good take because they're both so strikingly beautiful. - Mm-hmm. - And also his character wasn't necessarily like, someone that I'm like, you don't fall in love with him. - No, he didn't do these cute gestures to make her like him. You never actually see them talk and then they just hook up and you're like, - Yeah, they didn't miss a little bit of, but I think that's calling Hoover. They missed a couple plot points. - But you guys don't think Josh Hartnet is attractive? Oh, I guess. - I feel like there is more attractive people. - Josh Hartnet was like the hot rob. - Back in the day. - He does not look like that in the movie. - I know, but that's what he looked like in the outsiders. I remember watching the outsiders in the movie in middle school and be like, "Oh my gosh." His hair looked really bad in the movie. - It did look bad. - Josh Hartnet. - Yeah, he does look different now, doesn't he? Still a good looking man, but definitely different. - But when there, when there are women fighting over the guy, you've got a, and there's not a ton of buildings. - I honestly don't think it was the looks at it. - It was like, this character just didn't seem like, - Anything special. - Anything special, the character himself, and I think the personality of the character didn't make a more attractive. - That's really not my critique, though, of the movie. I think my only thing was that they maybe rushed, but I think this is a calling Hoover thing. This is typical of her books. We're all of a sudden, there's like no romance and all of a sudden they're like, yes. - You're like, well, where was that? How are you guys both agreeing to this all of a sudden? Like, no one dropped any hints. No one's like, open that. But I will tell you, first of all, from the beginning, the branding of Verity, it kind of felt like an old-fashioned thriller. Like, the way they did the branding for the movie was amazing. And, halfway, amazing. I was really scared. - I'm crushing it lately. - Yes, yeah. - She's a baby. - I don't know if she's had it yet, but she's like, she's off now. Like, she's not doing anymore. - I think she's pregnant now. - 'Cause I saw her as doing Verity Press. - Oh, she's very, very pregnant. - But like, she's like, on October 4th or whatever the day of Verity came out. She's like, and I will vanish into the cloud of smoke and just posted a little video of her vanishing. - Oh, that's cute. - Oh, that is cute. I thought the movie was incredibly well done. I was very, it was very thrilling. It was very true to the book. And I really liked it. I was like, try to explain it to Matt. I'm like, I actually need 30 minutes. - I was excited to Amber today while we were trying to work out. I was like, so, but she's like, oh my gosh. But isn't she paralyzed? I'm like, well, (laughs) I was excited to kind of feel a little bit bad because I was like, is this, maybe I'm really overthinking this and maybe this should get cut. But, so she was like, the scary villain, but she was also disabled. And I was like, is that a conflict? Like, to pose, like, to, I don't know, I just felt like that was a little bit. I was like, how are we feeling about this? - Was it distasteful or like it didn't make sense? - No, maybe that was just, maybe not the same thing.
the most, 'cause she's like someone that you hate. You hate her character. And you're also terrified of her. And I feel like we worked so long to stop those things. - Yeah, being mean to people with disability. - Yeah. Well, you're also thinking in this. - Is she actually-- - Actually, maybe that's a bad question to also have. Let me tell you, there were some parts where I was literally like nursing fish. I was like, whoa, I was like, no, still. - I knew one of the job skiers was coming and I was like, I was racing myself, and I went this book four years ago. - Yeah, I was, I learned that I really do like to wear hoodies, to movies that are a little bit like this, 'cause you swam on. - I was the last one I watched the house, when did we go with your mom, the housemate? - Oh yeah. I also had a hoodie 'cause there was a sex scene and I'm like, don't look at me. - I won't tell you the same thing. - You realize I do really like thrillers and I liked this type of thriller a lot because it's not a slasher thriller. There's no demons, like it's just very suspenseful and you're like, you're asking questions you're on the edge of your seat. And I didn't think that I'm a psychological thriller. - It is a psychological thriller, yeah. - Yeah, those feel more approachable, maybe. - Oh, it was so good. - I will confirm because I did have this question yesterday and I have confirmed it now. Also, the movie's a little graphic. There were some scenes that are, there was a boob and I was like, oh, there were two of them. - I said, I said, just one on this side and one on that side are for two different people. - She's in a bathtub. - There was two boob's. - Yeah, maybe one at a height. - I think one of hated it. - Yes, there was two holes. - Was there a latch involved? - No, it was good. (laughs) - The masturbation scene was also in the book. I just forgot about that. - I remember that a little bit. - Am I the only person that doesn't know what this is about? - No, I think I don't want the boob. - No, I don't think people didn't read the book and went to the movie and they were like, it's a Colin Hoover. - I was like, we could probably think it's a romance movie. - This is what I will tell you. - We should go in and talk. - Or your warnings for postpartum, if you're postpartum or pregnant probably. - Yes, or have children, or a mother. - Or care about kids. - Or just care about babies at all. - Potential trigger warnings. - It makes me, I forgot. - But I knew what was gonna happen. - Yeah, yeah that helped. - I kind of forgot about some of those things and it didn't register as deeply when I was reading the book, which also was before I had kids. - The registered really deeply, which is why I hated the book. - We watched the movie. I was like, I don't remember that. - I tell you, in half the way it's terrifying, she can be so scary. - Yes, she can't scare the crap out of me. - My last little talk about it, so we don't make this too long. And I feel like you've said this before too, is I don't like, even if it's set in the present day, the present references, call her daddy is a part of it. And hot ones is a part of it. And I'm like, I get, those are like current day podcasts that an author would go on to the publicize something, but it put me back in my world. I was in a separate little world over there that doesn't have those things. - I agree with that instead of myself. - But I was also like, did it? - Yeah, but I was like, go. - Like, I planned these times. - Go on, here. - On the credits, it was like Alex Cooper herself. And then, what's the guy from hot ones? - Shawn Evan. - Himself. - Shawn Owens. Like, I was like, that's cool for new always-year goal, being a movie. - Being a movie with Anne Hathaway. - I don't know. - Let's do it. - Out of the list. - No, that's a good take. - It's good for them. - Wow, well done. - That's something that just makes you excited about like, acting. I feel like I'm like, no, it was so good. - That's like, even with the honesty, I'm like, I didn't like the movie, but that storytelling was amazing. Like, objectively, it's just a good movie. Like, you can just appreciate everything that they put into that. And like, you know, the intentionality behind the, and the acting and all that. Like, that's just so well done. - See you out. - I only cost hundreds of millions of dollars, of course. - What? - Amazing art. - There's so many movies nowadays, you're like, that was such a waste of my time. That's so bad. They didn't put any money into that. Dang it. (laughing) - Oh. - Okay, sorry. Wow, that's crazy. - That's good. I'm glad we started off with that. - That was really long story. - I would like to talk about the Gypsy Rose Addie Thosin. - I would like to talk about the Gypsy Rose thing too. - We had a really crazy incident a couple months ago where a family member was in a car accident, but thankfully they had a tracking app that alerted the entire family that a crash happened in the moment of it happening. Immediately, a family members were called so our emergency responders. And it was very comforting knowing that, even without being able to physically notify us themselves that apted it for us, something that's really cool is that Hey Polo is this solution for families. Hey Polo is a family safety app that keeps families connected and safe without making anyone feel monitored. You receive general alerts when someone arrives home, leave school or work, or their batteries running low. As a wife and a mom, I always want to know what's going off my family and where they are, not because I'm curious, just because I want to know that they're safe. I can't imagine the peace of mind that comes with being able to just know gently at the tip of your fingertips. And you can even choose exact location, general area, or private mode. So the person that's sharing is always in control. I'm assuming when our kids are teenagers, they're not going to love always having the exact location, even though we'll probably require it. But it's nice that you can always feel like you're in control of what is being shared, yes. Send an SOS with your exact location in an emergency or use call phone to reach a loved one even on silent or do not disturb. Plus, a single subscription covers your whole family or group with unlimited members and unlimited groups. There is no questions asked. 30-day money back guarantee included in the subscription. Thank you to heypolo for sponsoring this portion of today's episode. - Give a backstory of Gypsy Rose from the beginning. - Oh, I feel like most people know, do you not? - I mean, no. - Okay. - The way are you kidding? - Her mom had a bunch of husbands by proxy fixed. - Yes. - And she hired her boyfriend to kill her mom. - Well, no. - She didn't hire him. She just, no. I think it was like, they didn't-- - I know she had teamed up. - They teamed up. - Okay, perfect. - I mean, but also she was severely abused. - She really abused her entire child, right? - She didn't know how old she was. She didn't have any teeth. - She didn't think, no she didn't have any teeth. She didn't think she could walk. - 'Cause the medications were like ruining it. - What stuff did her mom convince her that she had? - She couldn't walk. - Wow. - I mean, she was manipulated to think that she couldn't walk. - She didn't wheelchair. - Was this in Missouri? - Yeah, there was a fire house in Springfield. - In Springfield, okay. - There was a couple shows based off of her story. - Yes. - The act. - The act is good. - The act. - And then there's obviously like documents. - What's the one with Amy Adams? - That is about Munchausen's by proxy. That was very good. When we look it up, if you're looking up Gypsy Rose, I'll look at that and you'll look that up. But she was very abused. Like lots of things. - That's insane. - Which I don't even know how you get away with all that going. - Sharp objects. - Sharp objects with Amy Adams was really good. - I think she was very tactful about it. She switched doctors a lot. - Yeah. - Like, she knew. - Her mom was crazy. - Yes. - She was chronic. - Yes. - Yeah. - She was sick. - She was evil. - That's extremely crazy. - Yeah. - So Gypsy Rose went, she got convicted. - Yeah. - Obviously she didn't do the murder. - Was it clean? - Was it clean from murder? - Yeah. - So she put guilty to second degree murder and was sentenced to 10 years. And that was in July of 2016. In December of 2023, she was really some pearl. - Oh my gosh. - Ken and Gypsy were first engaged in 2018 to 2019. While she was in prison, they got back together in April of 2024 after her split from Ryan. And then they have a daughter that was born in December of 2024. - That's not that her dad passed away. - Yes. And so, news broke October 1st that Gypsy Rose's fiance, boyfriend, not sure, has died. And that news goes around. What is your first thought? - Originally I was like, oh she for sure killed him. Originally off the jump. - I think everyone has to be everyone's first thought. - A murder of death? I mean, I don't know, that's a lot of parallels. But now hearing that he was her pen pal in prison, I'm like, no, he could have been on drugs. - He what? - He died of an overdose. - Right. - That was an out of place. - Did he have a history of that? - Yes, he was actually found with a lot of narcotics around him. And this is getting released later. So I feel like the biggest thing is like, that day that it was announced, there's no details. So then like a lot of people's first initial thoughts is gonna be like, right. Something suspicious happened here. I mean, when you hear Gypsy Rose and you hear someone's dead, you're like, okay, surely something weird happened here. But Gypsy's brother, Dylan and Ken's boss, went through an unlocked bedroom window and found him unresponsive in bed. Deputies reported suspected drugs paraphernalia in the home, including syringes, a spoon and a powdery substance. Narcotics investigators have taken over the case. And they, the police say there's no evidence of foul play. - Wow, well that's horrible. - Okay. It's really sad that I've been saying about it because that's horrible. - Yeah, I mean, it's really dark and really sad. - There's not a ton of the opinions to say, but I think it is horrible. - An interesting thing to think about is that this person who was abused and then decided to kill her mother and went through that and then was in prison for a long time, she gets let out of prison. She becomes an influencer. She becomes in the spotlight. I think she didn't mind being on a plane, didn't she?
- I don't know if she's not in this world, or. - I remember everyone was just being like, "Jipsey Rose, about to talk her way back into prison." - Yeah. - Like, so what did they show say? - I know, I honestly was like having mixed feelings of even asking her, 'cause I was like, "This feels out of my wheelhouse." (laughs) - Yeah, out of my wheelhouse. - It was a response to some of those things. - But also just like, man, I don't wanna take advantage of someone that's like, - Yeah, I felt the same thing. - Really not okay. - Yeah, I think that's like the really interesting situation of, I mean, this happens with a lot of like, a lot of documentaries are made. A lot of these things where we're like, publicizing these situations that have happened. I mean, I'm a fan. I like watching that stuff. I like watching documentaries and crime shows, and things like that. But it makes you think like, should we be putting these people on a pedestal? I mean, it's something bad happens, and we're like, "Oh, they did it." Because that's just our first reaction. Everything is breaking news now. - Sure, of course. - Yeah, I don't think I can even speculate on that one. - But I have to speculate on it. - But it is crazy. - That is crazy. And gosh, I feel so sad for their daughter. - Same, and Gypsy. I feel bad. I think too when people obviously clearly in her life, she was never raised with a parent that guided her and loved her and taught her how to make decisions. And so then she goes to jail, and that's where she's probably being taught a lot of like life skills and just normal everyday things. And then she gets out and she's put into the world. And I'm not saying she shouldn't be, like she earned her freedom back, right? And then it's like, hey, you know how to figure everything out for yourself. And you're an adult. So you can make adult decisions, but you've never been taught, you've never been guided, you've never been loved. And now here are people that are like, I'll give you the world, I'll give you the, you know, and just like, I can't imagine being her and having to make decisions like that. Oh, and now you're a mom. And now you have this whole other world, which is amazing and a gift and a blessing. And I'm sure in so many ways, like her daughter, she's daughter, right? - Mm-hmm. - That has to be saved for life, you know. - But it has to be also so complex for her with her daughter. - Yes, I just can't imagine having to process all these things and now she's living in a house with an addict. Like I just can't imagine all that within four years, you know, and just, yeah, I just, I feel like hearing that, I have a lot of sympathy for her because she's just trying to figure it out. - Yeah, Gypsy's pushing a change.org position for this proposed law that's Kenan's law. She says Ken was heavily harassed online in the platforms, kept answering the reports with no violation because they, because they review each post on its own. The law would make it for platforms to look for patterns and repeated harassment. Authorities haven't connected the harassment with this death, but then there's also some family drama with Ken's sister told the Daily Mail that the family is disgusted with Gypsy's statements and she accused Gypsy of seeking the limelight and said the couple had been split for more than a month because she is just not publishing this thing about Kenan's law now after he's died. But yeah, so there's a little bit of unclear status of if they were together or if they were not, and what that looks like. - She could still be sad that he died. - Yeah, it's a problem with their child. - Why are they upset about that? I don't know, to me, that seems a little, like you're reaching for hairs. I don't know, to me that I'm like, she's allowed to be sad that he died. And also like, how was she making money? I don't know. She's got a lot to figure out in her life. So I think we can have nothing but empathy for her. I don't know her. I don't know the situation, I don't know the people, but that shows that I'm a Zary. - No, I think she lives in Louisiana, is that what this means? - Gosh, I wish her the best. I always think about that. I remember when I started when I graduated college, I had just grown up in such a bubble. And my whole life was a bubble. Then I go to college and I'm more in a bubble, and I'm in a story and I'm more in a bubble. And then I gave my first job in the service industry and it was so good for me. Because I'm like, for the first time in my life, I'm meeting 30-year-olds, 40-year-olds, 50-year-olds, 60-year-olds who literally just were never given the same opportunities as me. We're never taught the same way as me. There's just such a clear difference there. And these people are really trying to work hard and change their lives and make directional changes for life and sometimes later in life. And it was so inspiring to me and very eye-opening to me. I think it taught me a lot of empathy for people because there are a lot of people out there just are not taught. And then they're just left to figure it out on their own. It's like, if I had never had any direction in my life and I had to make every decision for myself and it was just figuring it out as I went, the things that I would have chosen from 16, 17, 18, 19 to through my 20s would have been absolutely insane. And I would have definitely been where those people were at that time too. So I don't know. I can't imagine being in gypsies. I'm like, I probably would have, I don't know. It's like, you can't judge the decision she's made. I've never, I've never been in any situation like that. Right. I just can't imagine she's just trying to figure it out. Anyway, that was really fun. I feel like I can't talk. That's so weird. I feel weird. Do we seem weird? No. No, I have this, I was thinking about this today. I think you have more energy than normal and you maybe have like a tiny-- Yeah, here's the thing. So you guys, your energy's a little embarrassed, maybe. Do our energies feel unbalanced? Yeah, I'm feeling a little bit. We can keep this in because I think the audience should know that we're a little unbalanced. We feel weird. We feel weird about it, too. So I want to validate if you feel we're listening to this. We also feel weird. We also feel weird. We feel it. But I was thinking about this in the shower because I was worried that this was going to be my energy for today. Interesting. And I was like, something that Abby brought to light about my own personality is that if I don't want to talk, I just don't talk. That has happened to this job. But then unfortunately, this is my job. It's to talk. So yeah, admittedly, I freaked out some people and I just do that. [LAUGHTER] They just in that time, we've all been over and you've just gone take a bath. I'm like, where'd she go? I've done-- but I respected that. Taking a bath while you're over? Yeah, but I was like, no, she should. Really? I realized I did that. It's been a while without taking it to an extreme. But on Sunday, you weren't feeling well. You weren't talking. No, I'm not going to talk. But I felt it. No, I really freaked out our in-laws, though, because they don't do silence. Exactly. Exactly. So there's something wrong. My family does silence. My family does silence and it freaks break. Blake out. OK. He's like, well, get out of the car. He's like, did you know we didn't talk at all in that car, right? No one said a word. I was like, Blake, it's geared by that? Yeah, that's funny. He's like, yeah, that's it. He didn't want other people to fill it. Yeah, yeah, because he's at the talker either. I'm not even aware of it. But you've made me more aware of it. Where it's like, hey, if you have a headache, it's fine enough, you're on, but maybe just tell them that you don't feel good. Oh, yeah. And I was like, OK, because I need to realize that people were thinking about it. If I just want to opt out, apparently, I just opt out of dialogue. That's so middle child of me being like the piecekeeper. I'm like, oh, thanks, sir. I didn't even-- I was like, no, I just don't feel-- like if I have a headache, or if I just-- Honestly, no, it's literally if I just don't want to talk. I just won't talk. Which is a fully appropriate response to things. Utter silence. You should not change that. Utter silence from the peanut gout. So now we're going to need you to walk in. Walk in if you're full. And I think I need a beef stick, because I've had a lot of sugar and a lot of caffeine today. Would you like to go get one? In my blood sugars, I can tell are just unbalanced. That's what's wrong. Do you want to go get a beef stick? I already had one today, but I just probably need another one. Yeah, I should get one. I'm really feeling wacky. I'm going to go-- I really feel like-- I'm in feeling wild. So I'm going to get a beef stick, I'm going to be sick. She came in, she was just talking like this. She goes, do I see any hyper? Do I see a weird today? I really had two lattes. Yeah, I had a whole bunch of pastries. Before I came here, I had a beef stick on my knees. Here's the thing. I actually got all my talking out this morning. Thank you to cash up for sponsoring this portion of today's episode. Matt and I are always talking about how we are going to teach our kids about money, even though they're only toddlers and literally a baby. I know. Because in this day and age, it's so confusing. With credit cards, everything is digital. And you don't actually see that transfer of money exactly. And so we want to make sure that we're teaching our kids about finances and financial literacy. And that's why I'm really excited about what cash app has developed. Cash app now offers managed accounts for kids ages 6 to 12 that grow with them all the way to adulthood, all with no subscription fees. Because building money habits shouldn't cost extra. The account runs through you, so you're not just watching from the sidelines. You're actually in it with them. And that's what makes it a real teaching tool. Every time money comes in or goes out, it's a chance to talk about it together. You set the spending limits, and you can lock or unlock your cash out visa card anytime from your own app. Automate their allowance and track the flow of money in and out together. Kids can start building real savings habits early by earning interest on savings. So when you're explaining the difference between spending now versus saving for later, they can actually see their money grow. Whether it's birthday money from grandma, allowance for finally cleaning their room, or saving up for something they really want, you see it all and help guide the decisions along the way. Their savings, habits, and history carry forward every step of the way from a parent managed account at six to a teen account at 13 to a full account at 18. It's structured independence. They get real life practice with money, and you're right there with them through every stage. Download cash out today and open a managed account for your child. Visit our link in bio. So hopefully, my parents-- - I always pair those together. It's a good pairing. - It's a good pairing. Yeah, I hopefully my levels come back in orbit. - You know what, you can just tell your blood sugar is a little crazy. - Crazy. - You're wrecked up. You're wrecked up. All right. So this fall, we're doing a lot of--
- No, this fall we're not doing a lot of things. - That's exactly right. Ladies, do you look at the internet and you're like, "Oh my gosh, that's a great craft." Oh my gosh, that's a great activity. Oh my gosh. - I'm gonna decorate with my two homies. - Oh my gosh, the money, look at that. And then you're like, "Ah!" Hey, guess what, we're not doing it. - Take a deep breath. - Yeah, we're not, we don't have to do it all. - We're not doing it. - We're gonna pick and choose the things we don't wanna do. We're gonna pick and choose the things we do wanna do. - We're not gonna be there. - We're not gonna be matching. And that's the name of the game. - That's actually my first one. - Okay, so let me hear it. We have some things that we're not doing this fall. - I'm not doing a family costume. And I wasn't, I've opted out every single year, but then it's been randomly sprung on me by my husband at the last minute. And this is my declaration, no family costume. And here's why, it's actually not for me. It's for my kids, because my kids are at the age where every person in the world that sees him asks them, which is sweet. What are you gonna be for Halloween this year? Every single time I'm like, what's it gonna be? - Right. - It's always different. - Every time it's different. - Usually it's something we don't have already. And I'm like, they're gonna be whatever they wanna be that day and that hour. And you know what, they might switch halfway through. That's what they did last year. - They did, they did, they did do it 180 halfway through. - They were slinky dog, but then they were hulk. And the front half is slinky dog. - Yeah. (laughs) - And you know what? I'm just like, I want, this, the holiday is for them. The holiday is for the kids. So they are going to get to choose whatever they wanna be that day and that will be what they are. And there's no way I'm gonna force them to coordinate with each other. And there's no way I'm gonna try to whip something out for me and Matt at the last minute too. Except I do think Matt and I will do a couple's costume. - Yeah. - 'Cause we can agree ahead of time. - Well, last year, I'm sorry. Killed when I came to costume, no other don't costume. And I thought weird, I surely did. They opted out and you have to respect that. But then I thought weird, I thought weird. That's on you. So this year I'm like, I don't think I've got it. I was like, we've got to do a costume. And I'm like, what is that with our husbands? - I just really love it. - But they never want to plan it. I'm like, what are they doing? - You don't plan it. I'm the queen of just taping something to my shirt and becoming that thing. - That made you feel weird. That cost you. (laughing) - Let me go down the list. I was in trouble. - I didn't actually know you were in costume until last episode. - I was just wearing a red tank top and I taped fire to my chest. - And you took it off before I saw you. - Yeah, but everyone else was not wearing a costume. I ripped that flame off and I threw that tape in the trash real fast. He said, this is embarrassing and Caleb was just left to be a fireman by himself. (laughing) - I'm taking it off. - I'm taking it off. - I'm taking it off. This is Benders. The year before that, we were the Hungry Caterpillar book. See you day, we did buy him a really cute costume. And then I wore a red dress and I taped white paper scenes to me. - Didn't we do this last episode? - I don't think so. - Do you want to talk about your Halloween costume? - Yeah, I know. - No, I think we were just talking about it. - Oh. - Because I'm just, I always, one year I was Hayley Bieber. I just taped a Drew House ticker to my body. Like, I'm just a queen of taping things. That's what I do. - That's what I do. - And every year, Caleb, like, that's woo. And I'm like, I think it works. - I think it works. - Then that's on being type B. I liked what you said on our call that. You feel like in your line of work, you have to do a family costume. - Yeah, there's this pressure. - Like, there's a pressure. - I've never felt that person like that. - Really? - Matt felt that. - Every creator. - Matt showed me all of these people. He showed me, I'm pretty sure, like the LeBranze, the Fish Bam. - So do like a week of Halloween costume. - He showed me all these people and I'm like, Matt, that is amazing for them. - Like, that is incredible. - That is incredible for them. - Yes. - Do you have you met us? - Our podcast is called Unplanned. - Right. - Hello. - Right. - We're not like that. - We're not. And here's my other thing. I don't know where to do with the costume once I have it. - I'm scared about it. I'm like, what do I have to find a place for this? - No, I'm not keeping it. - No. - No. - No. - Yeah, I never even in college, day of us making my costume. Like, I would go to Michael's, cut some fabric tied around my waist and I was a caveman. You know what I mean? - Like, it was never a- - Did you ever do a sexy Halloween costume, Abby? - Surely did. - I wanna see. - I deleted the one picture on my Instagram 'cause it was pretty boob-a-licious. (laughing) - It was actually just a lot of chest. - Except for our podcast. - I was a snowflake. And I actually thought it was really cute and killed that it was stupid. I bought silver fabric and I tied it around my little band-o top and it wore a little white mini skirt. - Cute. - It was a lot of chest bone. - A lot of chest bone. - Yeah, but it was little, you know. I deleted it from Instagram. And then the year after that, I was a hot cave girl. I remember that. - Yes, kill was a hot caveman. (laughing) - It reminds me of the year before Blake and I started dating. I was on the dance team at Missouri State. So we had a Halloween party that was before the church Halloween party. Same night. - Did you do a costume 182? - Oh. - Yeah, I had a little pumpkin dress. - Oh, it was like tight. - Body calm, baby. - Body calm, just orange dress, pumpkin. - Pumpkin. - And then I was, where's Waldo in a cat, cute long sleeve shirt? - Oh my gosh, that's funny. - You're like, I'm gonna throw it in my crowd. - You're gonna have to throw it in my crowd. - Dressing for the audience. - Yeah. - Blake was Dr. Seuss, I'm pretty sure. - That's cute. - Did you ever do a sex? - No. (laughing) - No. - I've only gone with the church parties. - Perfect. - No, I was sandy, but not like, like, I mean, I was fully covered. - Yeah, that's good. - Yeah. - That's good. - That's good. - That's good stuff. - Fully covered, sandy. (laughing) - I want it to. - Yeah, yeah. So yeah, feel me costumes. I'm with you on that. - Yeah. - I've done them under pressure from my husband. - We're on doing it in the internet. But this year, I'm not doing it. Maybe Matt and I will do a couple costumes. I think that'd be fun. I think he really wants to do Mario and Peach and I was like, yeah, that's fun, but then I have to wear a gown. - So maybe pick something to do. - Might need to get a hoop skirt. - I know. I was like, I don't know about that one. I really wear like sweatpants. So, sweatpants. - What can I take for sure? - Okay, my first one is I'm not carving a pumpkin. - Mm-hmm. - And I said this, it killed me. He said, why am? - Mr. Fall. He loves the fall. - He loves holidays. - He loves holidays. And I said, that's fine. 'Cause every time that I do carve a pumpkin, you end up carving it. So I'm just not gonna put the pressure on. And yeah, we talked about this. I don't think knives run children of our children's age. Seems like a good idea. - Oh my God. - Can you imagine the knives? Oh my gosh. - Not sticking my hand in there and pulling out the goop. I don't want that. - I don't want that. - I always had to clean out Blake's pumpkin growing up. 'Cause he didn't like it. He was like, it's so gross. - And I was like, you're a winiest. - Yeah, you make fun of Matt sometimes 'cause he doesn't like the feelings of stuff on his hands. - Yeah, it's kind of the same way. And if Matt gets in me on his hands, that those fingers are out of commission. They'll be out here. (laughing) He can't touch anything. And I'm like, these are, you can move 'em. - I know. I'm like, I don't want to touch. I don't want to get out of my hands. 'Cause I have to get my hands wet. And like, I've already washed my hands multiple times. I don't want to do them again. You know, I don't want to do them again. - I don't want to do them again. - It feels like a big thing here and there's a big thing. I have to mentally jump over them. - We're not carving them again. - So we're not carving them. - So keep in mind, it's-- - It doesn't work here. - It's illegal in Arizona also to have a pumpkin on your front porch, I believe. - Check me on that. - I think, yeah, I wonder if that's in all of Arizona. - Maybe just to have one in the car. - But also, if you carve a pumpkin here and put it outside, it's a big relief. - It's disintegrated. - That pumpkin, yeah, that pumpkin now look like it did. - It actually stained our porch. - Yeah. - 'Cause we left it out there, right? - And surely. - Yeah, you're getting that mold on our porch. - Yeah, so get in there. - Be sure we did. - Uh huh, yeah, I don't wanna pick up the moldy pumpkins at the end of the season and put them in the trash. - No. - Pumpkins will be inside and they will be fully as is. - They will be far informed pumpkins. - And if anyone's carving one, it's Caleb, but I'm not buying the pieces. - I know Matt's not carving a pumpkin. - Okay, next thing we are not doing this fall, we are not taking my kids to spear Halloween. I will not be going there either. - We are not doing that. I'm personally I'm scared. And so, surely my three and four year old will be terrified. - Right. - I feel like they're gonna ask a lot of questions too. Like, why is there a baby that's decapitated here? - That's dehumanized. - Like, right. - Why are things, they would have a lot of questions. - Uh huh. - But I'm like, yeah, I don't know. This is evil and scary. - I know. I got a whole spirit of Halloween. I'm like, who's this for? - You would think it would be fun to take your kids there. - Right. I asked Caleb today, I said who was, I feel like when we were kids, I thought Halloween was for the kids. And now as an adult, I'm like, was that always true? Or just as culture has shifted, isn't Halloween not really for the kids anymore? Like, it's so horror focused. - Yeah. - Like, there's a fun, you know, I think there's a fun part of Halloween. Like, it's so fun getting into costume as a kid. It's so fun trick-or-treating. The little ghosts and like, some of the little spooky things are cute and fun. But the demonic horror of it all nowadays is so intense. I'm like, my kid, trick-or-treating, is not wanna go be staring your spirit of demons in the face asking for some licorice bites. I don't know, it just feels a little weird. - It feels a little weird. - Who's that for? Matt and I did go to horror nights. We did not bring our children. - You're an adult. - Yes. - Yeah. - That's what I'm saying. There is a Halloween aspect for a adult. - Yes. And I even, I'm like, oh my God, if you're an adult and you like that, like your own little Halloween party with your friends. But the, I don't know, a lot of it I'm like, is it not for the kids? - Oh my God. - I forgot Bella through such a fun Halloween party where she hired people to be zombies. - Oh my God. - Oh my God. - That's so hard. - It was so fun. Yeah, not for kids. That was an adult Halloween party. - Yes. - Right. And I feel like there's a distinction. But I feel like the blind are getting blurred. Like, the place where you're taking your kid to get a Halloween costume. - Yeah, don't take your kid. That's what I'm saying. If you're gonna go get a Halloween costume. - You gotta go by yourself.
You can't let them pick you can't let them pick it out there. You're like I want to be Paw Patrol And you go in and it's like your soul was just sucked out of your body literally I'm like that is insane she got a little like God that's insane Unfortunately, you're now even possessed and they go we were looking for Chase. We will be performing exercises of and I'd like to Reveal that and then they have a Jesus in a way not Mickey Mouse next to the amputated body parts You're so right. We need like a children speed spirit of Halloween light and we will take our kids there And the spirit of Halloween heavy heavy Spirit of dark dark spirit of darkness spirit of darkness That could be the adult holiday and the spirit of Halloween to be the kids holiday I will say I hated going to horror nights and I might also opt out of that For the rest of my life. I've never done any horror. I think Matt just wanted to cuddle me Yeah, I'm like Let's cuddle on the hay ride baby Let's get some apple cider and call that to me. Like I don't want to cuddle what I'm sweating Fear and that is really straight demonic. I'm like actually not even kidding I've only really ever seen like two scary movies and what's I've one of them was in high school And I was at my friend's house. It was Annabelle and they were like all these guys and girls over and I I picked a phone call from my mom. I picked up and I go like call my mom and I was like oh You need me to come home right now I Like to be I like the feeling of being scared. No, I like it. I'm like as adrenaline see. I hate adrenaline. Okay, yeah I like it a little bit what recently did I get a Yeah, that's right. It always makes me feel like I'm gonna throw up Matt and I took me wait Maybe we should just talk about all the things that Matt take took me to that are really terrifying We could put on patreon. Yeah, we can put on pretty good. Okay, like I was put in a cage. I Wanted out you paid money for that. Yeah, yeah, I didn't like it. I was scared. What did you do? I had to go down the slide by myself in a cage No, this was in the haunted house. There's so many and you didn't know the logistics of that I will I'll I'll disclose them. Okay, perfect my second. Well, they're not doing I'm not decorating Okay, that's just like really screwed you have me I understand but no we live in a small house. No, okay I am not gonna buy specifically Halloween. Yeah, and specifically I mean just honestly fall in general. Here's what I do to decorate for fall I get the miniature pumpkins I love putting them around my house. I have two hand towels that are like flannely cute plaid That's deck and I'm lighting a candle and that candle is running 24/7, but I'm not getting Candle I got a full toxic one. Let me tell you okay. I did and I've gotten three of them I got a full talk. It's the only season where I buy full-talk scandals open your windows I was kidding. No, I let that just a bass. I'm like go me the furimones I'm not getting the seasonal pillows because what do you mean? I'm gonna put a pillow off for three weeks and have to store it for a We're gonna have that just makes me stress where am I gonna store it? I don't know I'm not putting anything on my front porch. I want it I've decorations that will rot and I could put in the trash Okay, um, I actually switched my my angle up this year decorations are really cute But that's why I said that's the only thing I'm ever gonna decorate. Yes, it doesn't come inside I don't want any decorations inside my house except a Christmas tree. Mm-hmm. Nothing else. Mm-hmm. Nothing else Yeah, it makes me feel cluttered and stressed and when I even honestly decorating that porch Freaked me out really bad. I was really freaked out Yes, I was like where am I gonna store this? I think that's like a type B person's nightmare because in my head I'm like I have to get a basket to put this in I'm not gonna Next year for us in Arizona in in all of our homes. There is no storage here There's no basement. There is no attic. Oh, there is no place to put it. No I'm disclaimer. Yes, so I told Matt I was like we're gonna have an oct and Matt actually really likes the decorations, which is so unlike him He was like he did a great job out there Bare minimum right, but he was like I was like we will have an October setting a November setting a December setting and then a spring and a summer setting. I'm immediately stressed. I know I know Yeah, but I am gonna buy it all in one go Okay, and then all stores together. Yeah, and I'm uncomfortable with it But then I also gave me the past to not put a single thing up inside my house See that's yeah, that's what I'm filming. I'm like you need to tell me I have to go spend money on stuff It's expensive that I don't want to spend money on dude It's expensive and then I have to store it and then I have to remember to put it out every year And then I don't want to have to store it I have to store it well because I don't want to get destroyed in storage It's just too much. I know I'm gonna get the candles and the little pumpkins that I can put in the trash At the end of the season I might have to cut this for next year, but When I actually got really shamed when I was buying my Halloween decorations because I went to Hobby Lobby And I was like, where's your Halloween decorations? And they're like we don't do Halloween And they just kind of like looked at me and I was like I Understand Respect that I like me neither I hate Halloween. He said I was testing you No, I know it's like I literally was like wait a minute. I have come to Halloween I said my mom was with me and she's like you never did Halloween. They're like no They did used to do it. Oh interesting and now they don't do it at all I'm like what about even just some a black and white or black and orange table runner. Mm-hmm. No, no not that I said I'm on business with a lot of it. I was like well, I got my November setting there. That's cute. I love falling But I did feel a little shamed. It's just like I just want a couple spiders. I know It's like it's what's in drenched list. They're jealous. Thank you drenched list I love the decorate for Christmas. That's the only holiday where I'm like I will put stuff out and store it because it's It's part of it. It's part of it. It's a whole season. It's more worth it. Right. Yeah, I'm sorry So I'm not doing that. And if you're with me, don't feel like you have to decorate just because the stores have been pushing Halloween decorations since June The final thing I'm not doing which you kind of gave me this idea, but I also had already opt out of it. I'm not putting my baby in a pumpkin Put that baby in a bag No, my baby will refuse the bottle. You go step on me. The babies and focus are so cute So cute, but not for my baby. He wouldn't he would not like it and I didn't work for my baby Who is it for? It's not for the baby not for the baby and the babies don't want to be in a pumpkin. Let's just speak for all babies I know they don't want to be in a pumpkin and Maybe someone can AI Fisher in a pumpkin for me That's a great use of AI that to me. Do you remember when those This is like way before it's time, but when you could take a picture and put your face on the dancing elves Yeah, my grandma says those and yeah, we should do that with And he could dead he still goes cross-eyed everyone to all of me No, we can't we cannot be putting in a jacket. I did a pumpkin. He didn't like it I put Griffin in one and I learned my lesson. I was like he hated that. I did try to put him in it naked and it was very cold So, you know, I wanted to do that but the carbon the pumpkin part. That was the hard part I didn't do it exactly I know we didn't put the didn't want it. I was like, should we try? I love when people do it, but you don't have to let's just let's just say right now Don't do it It was a nightmare It was messy. It was messy and the baby was pissed. It's a baby is so Baby is happy like that's gonna be hard. No, they probably a yeah the smiles on that baby. Yeah, that is not real My third one I'm not gonna buy every pumpkin flavor thing at Trader Joe's Why? Because it's got it crazy. Caleb will be so disappointed. I went in there I wouldn't put on pumpkin stuff and I was like I'm so excited and then I go in there and I'm like, I don't want Who's gonna what what is a pumpkin cracker gonna do for me? What am I gonna eat that with and I'm even gonna taste the pumpkin? What's a pumpkin hummus? That sounds gross Who wants that? It's gone too far. It's gone too far. Have you taken a sample of your husband? I did talk to him about on the phone. He did agree with me. Really? They're burning me out and I love I love pumpkin I want the pumpkin ice cream. I want the pumpkin Joe Joe's. I want the pumpkin breads. I Do not want anything else. Really? That I can think of off the top of my head I was like you love a good Trader Joe seasonal item. Hi jingle jangle. You guys go crazy for that We went so crazy that when you had it really been able to eat it the same About like eight tens. It was like scarcity of mine. So I'm like go before it's gone No, we had seen in our house. We had some in our house for like a couple weeks You're like how is it still here? We would eat it and it freaked out We had like four or five tins in our pantry, and I was like we got to make a lot. I will say the snacks that I go for in your pantry Our ones that I think I only like that. I'm in there. I'm like I don't think any of those have gone since I Eating all of your snacks. I was thinking about it. I'm like if I did it what I eat every day I couldn't. I had six skittles and then I had six skittles. I had four chips I can't track the blood sugars Never good Never no, but you always feel the day
- I think I've gotten my body used to just stop. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's me. When people were like, "Oh, that'll wreck my stomach." I'm like, "Well." - Oh my god. - I actually see a brown. - Ain't nothing new for this gut. (laughs) - It's always a little back-handed when they said, "Oh, yeah, I could never eat that." And you're like, "I could fix this." - I am right now. - It settles really well over here. - My body loves it, loves it. - No, I remember distinctly going back to our in-laws round, it was probably one of the fall months. And there was pumpkin Cheerios. And it was like, "Those are for Caleb." (laughs) (laughs) - They had an assignment. - They're real kids. - Caleb loves the pumpkin. - The pumpkin tortilla chips? - Horrible. - Who's eating those? - Who's that for? - That's for money grab. - Do you know what I mean? - We're gonna stick to the basics. - For's, it's gone too far. - Pumpkin cream cheese, actually that's good. - That's good. - On a pumpkin bagel, I love that. (laughs) - Pumpkin cream cheese, I love it. - I actually, I actually like that one. - Okay, well. - Well, there's no consistency there, so, you know what I mean. It's all right. I mean, hypocrite. - We are hypocrites. - I will be a hypocrite about that. And you could show me something to be like, "Oh, I actually love that pumpkin tortilla chips." - You're like, "Well, let's put in the bag." Why did they make that pumpkin? (laughs) - All right. - Well, we're gonna hop over to Patreon, talk about. - What we are gonna do. - Yeah, so if you need some inspo, go to Patreon. - These are things that are worth it in my mind. - I think so too. - Thank you to Hungry Root for sponsoring this portion of today's episode. Ask, ask, ask, Abby. Hi, Abby, Abby and Abby. This is Bella. I'm just calling because I'm getting married next March. And my fans and I are trying to just budget well and plan. And I wanted to know your top two wedding must have and two things that we shouldn't waste our money on. Love you all so much. Thanks, bye. - Here's the thing that I regret from our wedding day that I wish we had. I don't necessarily wish I had a videographer. That's not necessarily what I wish we had. I do wish we had more video from our day of. So if you could either like hire a content person to just go around with your phone and take tons of video of like behind the scenes with your friends. - Do they do that now? - Oh yeah. - That's more of a thing. - Yeah, and you could even just have one of your friends do it. Like designate someone in your wedding party to do that. - But I really am sad I don't have more video footage from the day. Like I'm really grateful that our father and law says - It wasn't that thing then. - No, and the whole thing was so weird. - Which is so weird. - There's like really beautiful curated wedding videos which are so beautiful. And if you have the budget for it, do it. But if you're like pinching pennies and looking where to cut costs, like I don't know how often you're gonna sit down and watch your formal. - But we just gave a family member our camera and we're like recorded and then matted it into a video. - Exactly, so I'm like, I wish we did something like that where we just had someone low key like we had hired them to just do it and get video footage 'cause I do wish that we had more. But do spend money on a good photographer because your wedding photos are like the piece of your day that you will always look back on. You will share, you will post, you will print, you will look at, you will put in books. And like those pictures are so precious. I love my wedding photos. So I do think you should spend on good photos. - This might be bad, but I don't, if you're trying to think, if you're on a budget, I would say don't pay for someone to do your makeup or hair potentially. - Because I feel like you wanna look like yourself. Like, however you normally do it, just do a little bit more special. Do all the steps or whatever it is. But I just feel like sometimes I'm like, you wanna look back at your pictures and see yourself and then I feel like, I don't want my kids to look at my wedding photos and be like, who'd at? And so they always see our wedding pictures and they're like, where's that dress mom? Put that back on. Don't ask me to do that. I just feel like if you're going to, if you're gonna let some things go for me, that would be something that I didn't, that was something I didn't pay for it and I don't regret that at all. - Yeah, I think the other one is decor. I'm sorry, I don't think anyone paid attention to this. If you're on like, you're trying to do a budget wedding or like even, like we picked a very beautiful venue that kind of spoke for itself. I didn't really worry about bringing in brint tools and backdrops and frames and tons of stuff. Like we had flowers on the table that were really pretty and simple and like just did the basic nice linens that they offered at the place. - Yeah, florals. - Yeah, florals, I think, you know, that can be your decor. But I know a lot of people spend a lot of extra stuff on like little gifts for your bridal, all the people coming, like don't, I don't care about a gift. I don't want to coos you with your name on it. I don't want anything with your branding. If you don't, if unless it's like, on a really expensive, really beautiful, well done wedding. I've never used a coosie in my life. - Never used a coosie. Yeah, like that stuff is nice if it's like a black tie and that's the expectation is like, hey, this is a really formal event. I want you to spend a lot of money on your outfit and then they come, then those things are nice to have. But if you're just doing like a really formal wedding, the atmosphere itself, like good music, - That's what I was going to say. - And a great ceremony is all you need. You don't need all the extra stuff. - Do spend money on DJ. I think having someone to actually read the, I mean, if a party is important to you. - Yeah. - To be like, okay, we need to switch the song up and this is what they need. You kind of need something. You can't just like, let a playlist run and do that. Like there isn't art to that. And I was really glad that we had a DJ at our wedding. - Oh, yes. - They like kind of just, they orchestrate the party. - Yeah. - And that was so fun. - That was important to us. - It is, and the bad stuff. - But just letting it hurt the party. - Yeah, don't just let up, I mean, you can. But I would say it's worth your money to not just let a playlist roll. - Yeah. - We also, okay, this is another one. If you want to save money, don't do a sparkler exit. Because it actually costs extra money for your photographer to stay extra hours. A lot of times. So like we had our photographer stay for the first hour of the reception or dance party and then leave. It costs extra for her to stay the whole night. And then you also have to pay extra for the sparklers. And we didn't do an exit and I'm like, it was fine. Like that's really mostly for our Instagram picture, right? It's like the sparkler exit. And you just spend money on that and they're not cheap. So I don't know, to me, I was like, we don't need that. - I would say with that too, not as many people. Only your core people are gonna stay till the end. - Right. - Like your friend group and your family. - That's it. - And then you're wedding really early. - Yeah. - I went to a lot of people that did not have exits because people were gone. And they paid for the exits. Like they had all the stuff there. - You were by seeing these sparklers. - Not ours because we ended that nine. That was a good time. For like our started to leave. I wish our wedding started a little earlier. But it was a Friday wait wedding. So it couldn't start earlier. But just the night went so fast. - I wish we had a videographer too. It was like probably a fourth to a third of our budget to get a videographer and so we didn't do it. And because I had the thing, I was like, we're never gonna look back at that. Like I told myself that. And now I'm like, I would. I actually would. - Yeah, I don't need the fancy video. I just want video. Like I just want something. Like I want to see, I would remember people dancing and like doing stuff. But I don't have any iPhone pictures. Like it was Boomerang. - Oh yeah. - It was like Boomerang and I'm like, that doesn't give me anything. You know, I just wish I had saved videos from people's iPhones. - I think a big thing with the decor too is that a lot of your venues have decor you can use. Like a lot of them have a storage area that people have left stuff. And so I would dig through that with whoever your coordinator or planner is if you have one. And I gave them pre-write, I bought zero decorations. I was like, whatever looks good. Put it on the table. - Just use it. Like all the candles and all the table numbers and all the things. Like I know you have to have that, but you can do that way, pair down. We don't do table numbers. - You don't have to do super expensive invitations. We did a seating chart. We wrote it on a mirror. So I found a really pretty mirror at a thrift store. And we just had someone with good handwriting write the seating chart on the mirror. Or actually. - I've seen those. - No, I printed it on really pretty paper. And it looked really cute. I just taped it to the mirror. So it looked decorative, but it cost like no money. I don't know, you're just gonna get crafty. - Yeah. - But not too crafty. Unless you're really good at crafts. - So let's do a lot of DIYs. - Well, you're really good at it. - Hi Abby, Abigail and Abby. My name is Iona. I love watching your greatest podcast. And my question to you guys is what would you do if you feel tension between your subterm law and how would you address that? Thank you, right? - If you feel what? - Tension. - Like between each other. Like if we had tension with each other, how would you address that? - Say something wrong? - Yeah, are we good? - They feel weird. Are we good? - They feel weird. Are we good?
Yeah, I think that's a good line yeah because it kind of feels a little you know, it's not like what's wrong What's the matter? It's a matter Things feel a little weird That's all that's like that I feel like when you have like a A decent relationship. It's easier to sometimes point that out to just be like hey everything Mm-hmm, or if you feel like there's something on your end you can be like hey I feel like maybe I said this and it could have come on Yeah, I feel like a lot of times like between us like usually we're going before and saying like hey that That came off wrong. That came off wrong or yeah Mm-hmm. Not that it happens very much, but like If you think that there's something internally that you're like I it could it's probably it might be this then just lead with that That would probably be The best way to go about it. Yeah, I were stepped. I'm sorry, whatever All right, last one. Hi Abby Abby and Abby my name is Lucy. I'm 21 and I was just wondering what is your favorite book of all time? Thanks mother podcast to watch every week I honestly think I'm the book educated. Has anyone here read that book? Is that a yellow color cover has a pencil on the cover? Yeah, yeah, it's right. It's a memoir. It's really crazy. Really? Yeah, I mean, it's the top of like a bunch of I'm not the first person to say this is the best book I've ever read But it's literally just this woman's story of like she was raised in like an extreme like they were like Survival household like she didn't even like I think on the back of the back blurb on the back of the book is like she was in a college classroom and she was never like allowed to go to school like she was kind of secluded and They were talking about the Holocaust and she raised her hand and she was like hey like I don't know like what's the Holocaust like she said that and She was asked to leave because they thought that she was being disrespectful. She like literally did not know as a 20-year-old and never heard of the Holocaust Whoa, and so it's like this woman's journey like to getting educated in like her her story's crazy It's so well written. It's beautiful and I read that when I was in college and That book I still think about a lot like that was what six years ago Wow, I love to read it. Yeah, yeah, it's really interesting I think my favorite book. Okay, listen. I'm new to reading new to reading she just learned how just learn Thank you I'm the nightingale. Yeah, that book was so good. I can't wait for the movie to come out I think the Dakota fanning the fanning sisters are in it. I think they're the main characters. Oh, they're actual sisters Yes, it's not the best casting. I read it Don't read it like why you're pregnant. I will say there was something. I read it while it's devastating It is devastating. I was just solving three different times in that book But it evoked all the emotions and it was so good. That was a really good. It was so fantastic and also World War 2 Maybe we watched the movie Nuremberg. Have you guys watched that movie? I don't know. It's on Netflix I don't know. It might be top five movies. I've watched in my life It's an amazing story It's so heavy. It is but it's nothing that you haven't seen before when it comes to World War 2 It's about the trials of It's the Nuremberg trials. So it's when they prosecuted Hitler's Team basically after I don't know much about that. I didn't either and it was so well written that acting was amazing Well, the story time was amazing. That sounds like something and there were a couple plotlines in it that you're following that I genuinely didn't know how I was going to end And you don't like it's so good like the follow is one of the psychologists who's going in there and like talking to these guys While they're in jail waiting for their trial and he's like trying to understand and getting the heads to help The prosecuting team and so he's like speaking with these men that basically led the Holocaust and it's So fascinating. That is crazy. It's really good Yeah, we were just talking to our friends who went to Germany and they were like talking about how they had gone through some of the camps And I was like I don't I don't know how I could even step in there and like yeah, that is heavy, but they're like it was they they said it was a really like I don't know what the right word is, but like it was a sobering. Yeah, it was a very like neat like they're glad they did it Uh-huh, but like they preserved it. I mean that's such an important history You know, I mean some period of ground for so many people. Yeah, it's like that's so heavy. They said they said you walk in and you like feel the heaviness I heard guys. Yes. I have chills. I don't think I could it was well not to get into this movie But last thing I'll say about it when they're in these trials It's the first time there a lot of people are hearing about what happened at the concentration camps Like I don't even think I've registered like oh while this is going on people don't really know what's going on Yeah, because a lot of movies and books are from the point of view of someone in camps, you know And so you just I feel what the night and girl it is a different angle. It's a different angle And so this was like oh wow these people a lot of time these people are finding out for the first time like what actually happened And it's just like interesting. It's I can't imagine the shock in the horror. It's such a good movie. Highly recommend Nuremberg on Netflix I don't have a favorite book. I'm with us. I was trying to look through books. I've read you have a favorite nothing jump to mind Verity when you read again What's one that you recommend? I don't know when I was looking at these. I really liked the perfect marriage when I read it. Yeah, that one's good I feel like you like free to make up fatton's books. I do like freedom of fat and I feel like they're nothing crazy But they're really good quick We're looking for like a darker book to read darker book to read. That's a good one Like I want to kill our book like you mean one killer book killer But as I was scrolling through a book that stuck out to me That we all read I want the invisible life of Adela. You like that one? No, not really But it just is sticky out in my brain of like a very interesting book that we read Yeah, and think of that one really bothered me. It's memorable. How does a memorable book thought for the writer? I remember that it was right when we moved to Our current apartment and I would wake up in the morning and I would go out on my balcony every morning and read it So I would get it done before we had get it done with get it done Like to read it. I was like gosh, I had so much time in my life back then. I wasn't even pregnant But we're a child, but I would wake up early and read my book and start my day And that was my book I've been watching Kayla fans YouTube videos. I like her videos. I watch them all she was gonna read ten books in September and I was like 10 bucks I'm telling you these people read so many books my good read says I read 50 books This year? No, just in general Started reading. Why did you start reading before Brielle before I was ever pregnant Brielle When I moved here, I thought you were here maybe my goal this year was 25. I remember when I used to you reading nights How that I was thinking about the other day too, and I was like we could never do this never again You can't lie to your and your babies are sleeping to the nights Just leave our babies like put them to bed and come back and yeah, you would sit and have snacks and I read about one book a month since you started book club good boy. Thank you. Thank you How many months is that 18? You're crushing it crushing it. I read the two on my own in there 20 bucks. That's shocked me when you read on your own. Thank you. Yeah, yeah I'm gonna make a song Would you a recipe? I do. I made this big chicken Over the week, which big chickens always, you know, could be dry. It could be dry. Drives the bone and I made it For our friends. I came over for dinner. I was like, I'm really sorry. And then I took a bite of it. It was really good Now there was a story. Yeah, preemptively. I was like, this isn't gonna be good But I was such a last minute thing that I just That's what you said you wanted to do. You guys have really been reaching my goal. So anyway, this big chicken turned out really good I think it's because the seasoning mix is really good. It's got a lot of brown sugar in it Oh, I didn't expect that. I know it was really good on the chicken because it was brown sugar paprika It was like a warm warming spices and then some herbs is really good. So I'll share the recipe for it Yeah, yeah, I actually had leftover seasoning because I mixed it all together in a bowl And then put on the chicken and I had leftover and I sprinkled that seasoning mix on my asparagus and that was really delicious Brown sugar on asparagus crazy really good. Imagine like asparagus. Oh really? Yeah. I didn't know that I'm he'll eat it I liked roasting it with tomato. I don't think I make it good. - Have I shared Mike's yogurt bowl recipe before? - No. - Okay, and this is funny, I'm gonna call him Mike's yogurt bowl. - Mike will do? - Yeah, he's on his protein goals. He's really, they're locked in over there. - They're still locked in. - But I was at their house and I was still so hungry. Not their fault, they made so much food. I just sometimes bought them with it. - You're supposed to part of it. - Yeah, I was nursing a lot. - And he was making a dessert. I was like, can you make me one of those? And it was so good. It's literally vanilla Greek yogurt, which you could use plain Greek yogurt too. Honey, mini chocolate chips, almond butter, the almond butter is actually key and a whole banana. This dessert will stick to your ribs and keep you full all night. - Oh, for if you're nursing through the night, it will really keep you full. But when you think about it, that's a very satisfying and sweet dessert, but everything in it is like. - Good for you. - Yeah. - It's got nutrients. - No problem, yummy. - Yes, it's so good. - I love eating a bowl. - It's surprisingly delicious. I feel like people would give me yogurt recipes. I'm like, keep your yogurt to yourself. - Yogurt. - Keep that yogurt over there. - Put it over there. - 'Cause yogurt for me normally was just something I had to get down. - Oh, interesting. - This I like crave. It's good. - There's these chobani yogurts. Have you had these? There are, okay, so there's the way it goes to one. It's a triple zero. And then there's the chobani ones next to them. And they're like four or five dollars more expensive at Sam's and Costco for the box. - Oh. - But it's like $18 dollars a box. - Oh no, they have gross flavors of them though. - They're delicious. And it's thick in there. It's almost like a cheesecake texture. - Oh, oh, oh, in the glass jars. - No, no, they are in the package. It's like very cherry mango. - Yeah. - Vanilla. - Yeah, okay. - And strawberry lemon is so good. - Okay. - No, they're really good. - What would I ever do with the cherry and the mango though? - I give those ones to the children. (both laughing) - The berry one's good actually. - Okay. - It doesn't taste like cherry, it tastes like berry. - Okay. - It's really good. - And the flavors are good. And it's thicker texture. And if you put chocolate and stuff in it, it tastes almost like a little cheesecake. - Mm. - 'Cause it's really thick. - Okay, I'll have to check this out. - And it's filling, it's 20 grams of protein. - Ooh, yeah. - I know. - They're like really filling. - Anyway, what are we talking about? - That's our recipes. Thank you guys for tuning in. I'm gonna bring my better brain next time. - I'm gonna try to keep my energy, but maybe bring it in a little bit. - I like it. - Are they too reading? - Oh yeah, I'm reading a book. Have you guys started it? - Yeah. - It's got delivered today, it should be. - Okay perfect. - The woman's 16%. - Okay. - Cabin 10. - Cabin 10? - Yeah. - Yeah. The beginning starts off and you're like, is anyone alarmed by what just happened? - Yeah, I'm like, where is this gonna cut? Is this coming back somehow? - Something happens and no one up. - Like none of the characters reacts like something happened. That's my opinion on it. - Okay. - I'm like, should we. - Is she crazy? Like did they not happen? - Should we call the police? - Yeah. - More. - More. - Yeah. - Anyway. Yeah, so we'll see. That's kind of our thriller book for. - I think it feels like more of a mystery. - Yeah, I like it. - Um, By Ruth Ware, the woman in Cabin 10. - Uh-huh. - So read the book club book if you want to participate in that. I just had my first baby this July and have enjoyed the girl's sash mom talk on quiet days at home. You are all so relatable and have made postpartum just a little less lonely. That's really sweet. You all seem so genuine and fun and I'm just a little jealous. I'm not friends with you in real life. So grateful. I found the podcast. - Oh, that's really sweet. - Thank you. - Congratulations. - Yes, seriously. Um, I wanted to say this too. It's like no one's, actually like noticed maybe that it's come out a couple of times. So I'm like, he's reading it. But it does always come out every month and I'm not sitting in the alarm. So it does come out on the first. And every newsletter has all the recipes listed in there from the whole month. So if you want to go back and you're like, oh, I don't remember what episode that was but I knew it was around this time, you can go to that monthly newsletter and all the recipes are listed there. - Beautiful. - I'm proud of you. - Thanks. I've had a lot of fun writing it. If there's anything else you guys want to see on the newsletter, let me know because, yeah, I'm always open to feedback, but it's been so fun. - Yeah.
