Reggie Dawson here, your host of the Being On Stage podcast. What is up? Listen, I missed podcasting yesterday. I've been doing a podcast now since the beginning of July every single day, and I missed yesterday. So I'm going to tell you a little bit about why, and then, of course, I'm going to teach a lesson having to do with it that you can use for performing. So yesterday, I went back to selling my products. Which I mentioned. I mentioned on the last podcast, I sell beard care on the side. I love this podcast. I love coaching performers, but I also like contributing to my local community, and I'm pretty passionate about the beard that I've grown. So yeah, I sell beard care on the side, and I was at a mall yesterday doing my thing. And it was the second day of a weekend event, and I came home afterwards. I didn't come home yet afterwards. I went to dinner with my mom, just like I do every Sunday. And we came home, and we had to get to work. on Saturday. It lasted a little bit longer than I thought, so we were a little behind in our preparing for our daughter to start homeschool, start school today, Monday, August 12th. And so last night, we're like crazy trying to print everything and get everything organized just for today. We're taking it slow. We're doing it day by day for now just until we establish what her pace is going to be because we're new to homeschooling and she's done an online school thing before, but it's a little too rigorous for her. She needs to slow it down a little bit and really take the time to understand things just like we all do. So I was up late and 11.20 comes around. I looked at my wife. I'm like, babe, I didn't podcast. And she's like, we are mid-print. I'm still putting together materials. My wife and I have an arrangement. I'm going to plan and organize everything and then she's essentially going to teach it and spend the time with my daughter. While I go to work and thankfully she's doing that. I'm having fun today hanging out, hanging out with my daughter while she's getting started on it. But thank God my wife's going to do this for our daughter because our daughter needs that individual attention and that time to really just take the time to understand. So anyways, last night, you know, in preparation and everything, I kind of got lost in doing the family thing and taking care of, you know, the responsibilities I have to, you know, as a father to my daughter and everything like that. And one of the reasons that I, you know, one of the reasons that I do this podcast and that that I coach performers and I have this dream of, you know, being able to coach performers full time and, you know, feed my family with it is so that I have those opportunities to, you know, sit there and homeschool my daughter and spend time with her. They were gone for five years because of a financial crisis we had. And so I didn't get to spend a whole lot of time with her between the ages of six and eleven. So now I'm trying to soak in as much time as I can. And homeschool seems like a really great option for her. Plus, I maybe small amount of selfishness wanting to spend more time with her while I can. Because of my work schedule, if she went to conventional school, I would never see her. She'd be off to the bus around the time I'm waking up and she'd be going to bed before around the time I'm coming home. So I there's no way around that. So anyways, you know, in preparing everything, I completely forgot to podcast and I didn't forget. It wasn't really the time. I was like, I'm going to bed. I'm going to bed. I'm going to bed. I'm going to sleep. It wasn't really that I forgot. I knew in the back of my mind I had to podcast. And the same thing with you, you know, you get going on something, especially when it's a responsibility that you have to your family, to your kids. You get you get going on something. There's going to come times when you just can't rehearse or, you know, and that's OK. I want to say that's OK. I equate my podcast to your rehearsal because it's something that you should be doing every day. It's something that you should be, you know, working on and putting the time into. And that's so I can attribute my podcast to your rehearsal. My performance is when we get on the phone and talk for, you know, half hour, 45 minutes and get you going on your dream. That's my performance is when I get to work with you individually. My podcast is like my rehearsal. Oh, speaking of if you want to work together, you can hop on my calendar for a 30 to 45 minute call. Absolutely free. Go to being on stage dot com slash calendar and just put in your details and I'll call you. Don't even worry about it. I got you. So anyways, you know, we're preparing and everything. And I when it comes to your family, I guess this is where I really want to go is when it comes to your family. Family absolutely comes first. And it's something that you shouldn't have to be reminded about. It's it's something that, you know, it should just come second nature to you that if you have a responsibility to your to your spouse or to your kids or to your parents, even to, you know, get certain things done for them or, uh, to help them, that absolutely 100 percent of the time comes first, because truly the the the freedom that you would have as a performer, you know, getting to live the life that you love, getting to perform wherever and whenever you want. And I say wherever and whenever you want, because, of course, you're going to get booked. But you have the power to control how often you get booked, where you get, but you have that power, especially as you really get going and you learn how to, you know, how to how to really use performing to support yourself. The freedom you'll experience is is absolutely phenomenal. So the reason that you want the freedom is so that, you know, if your family needs something or if you need something or your kids or whatever needs something, you have the availability to do it. I mean, yeah, you may be on the road. I get listen, I get it if you're on the road. But if something comes up, you're going to do everything in your power and you're going to do whatever you can to help your family. And that's that's kind of where I was at last night is it wasn't like an emergency situation, but it was my daughter's going and going into high school. She's homeschooled and high schooled. And so it's a whole new experience for us all. And there were things that had to get done. And because of, you know, other events that happened that weekend, I didn't get it done previously, but I had to get it done. And it became of the utmost importance because, you know, it was less than 12 hours away. And turns out we had to rent a little bit more and organize a little bit more than I anticipated. And yeah, that's all in my control as well. So the second lesson here is, you know, you should probably plan your day to include rehearsal as well as the other things that you need to accomplish. So there's a twofold lesson here. And listen, yes, I'm telling you about my day. Yes, I'm making excuses. Yeah, whatever. But I also want to tell you that without a doubt, no matter what family is important, and they're going to come first sometimes. And some people are going to give you crap for it. And you cannot buy into that crap. You have to hold strong to your beliefs and your morals that your family comes first. So if someone gives you crap for missing a rehearsal or taking time to take care of your family instead of your career, you take that finger right in the middle of your head. No, no, no. Just, you know, everyone needs to be reminded of that. Remind them my family comes first. Listen, I love this band. I love this group. I love this performing. I love rehearsal. I love what I do. But when my family needs me, I'm going to, you know, when I have things I have to take care of for my family, I'm going to take care of the things for my family. And so that's that's what I want to. That's it. That's kind of what I want to get off my chest today is, you know, yeah, I missed it last night. I missed I missed podcasting. I planned a podcast. But this preparation for my daughter's really came first because that's like that's the reason I do this podcast anyways, is so that I can have that freedom to homeschool my daughter and spend the time getting the preparation that she needs so that she can have the education and the life that she deserves. And that's my spiel for the day, I guess. So thanks for tuning in. If someone gives you crap for putting your family first, I honestly I would just they don't deserve your time. Truthfully, if someone gives you crap for putting your family before your before yourself and before them, they don't deserve you. Keep on shining.
