Exploring Jesus Part 2: Our Divine Participation in Christ

This teaching by Dr. Obed Ovinga explores the deeper meaning of "this is that" in Acts 2:16, arguing that Peter's citation of Joel represents a partial fulfillment with the same intensity rather than an exact match. Joel said God would pour out "my Spirit," but Acts records "of my Spirit," indicating the current outpouring is an earnest or guarantee of a fuller future release upon all flesh. Dr. Obed emphasizes that Jesus walked the earth as the institutional head without a body, since the Christ is a many-membered body. He explains that "Emmanuel" is not merely a name for Jesus but a corporate constitution of people and a place of authority. The teaching also distinguishes between Hebrew, Israelite, and Jew, noting that a Jew is an ally of David and his tribe, as seen in Obed-Edom the Gittite. Finally, Dr. Obed argues that Jesus is not coming for a glorious church but to make the church glorious, and that the name of Jesus refers to His character and authority carried by a legislative body of believers who take His oath and rule with Him across heavenly and earthly realms.

Speaker 2Who is he that cometh in the name of the Lord? Who is he? Who is this that cometh from Edom? With that coming from Bozrah, this that is. Now, whenever you read the book of Acts and the book of Isaiah, and you see this is that or this that is, he is not talking about just a person as this person, no. In Hebrew, Structure and lexicons, when we say this is that, we don't mean this is it. The Bible says, this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel. He didn't say this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel. This that is, is not this is. There are ways Bible people coined Bible words to communicate the truth of Scripture. This that is, this is that. They are not the same. This is, so in Acts chapter two, the verse 16, he said, let's start from verse 15. Could you read for me? I need to do this quickly.
Speaker 3For these are not drunken.
Speaker 2These people, they are not drunk.
Speaker 3As you suppose.
Speaker 2As you suppose. Seeing it, seeing it
Speaker 3is but the third hour of the day.
Speaker 2Seeing that it is just the third hour of the day.
Speaker 3But. 17. But this is that.
Speaker 2This is that. What does it mean? This is that. Two things. First of all, in the Hebrew language, and in the lexicon and the structure of Hebrew grammar, when you say this is that, it is not, and I emphatically say again, it is not this is. It means two things. First of all, one that is in the intensity of what we expect. But not fully what we expect. So it is a partial fulfillment. Partial fulfillment. with same intensity Joel didn't say this is that go and read the book of Joel what was it that was spoken by the prophet Joel that I will pour out my spirit but now go and read Joel 2.28 can you read it so that we get it
Speaker 3and it says I come to pass afterwards that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh
Speaker 2I will pour what out can I get people who are listening to me I will pour what I will do what I will pour out my
Speaker 3my spirit upon all flesh
Speaker 2go and read the book of Acts he didn't say I will pour out my spirit
Speaker 3and it says I come to pass
Speaker 2in the last days I will pour out of I will pour out of I will pour out of hold on he is not pouring out his spirit I will pour out of my spirit that is the reason why this is that the pouring out my spirit is not the same as the pouring out of my spirit the pouring out of my spirit is partial fulfillment in earnest a guarantee of what is actually to come so when you read the book of Acts and you want to put it side by side what was prophesied by the prophet Joel it was not the same thing Joel spoke about but Peter said this is that this is that but this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel that in the last days of course that is not what Joel said it shall come to pass in the last day said God I will pour out of my spirit upon all flesh Joel didn't say I will pour out of my spirit but he said I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh why because all flesh have not received the outpouring of the blood of God the outpouring of the spirit there's going to come a day in this universe every being called human I'm going to tell you something you'll be shocked you'll understand Emmanuel because he's actually talking about Emmanuel when the virgin not only Mary oh that day they will understand that when Jesus came into the world into this world do you know that the Bible said Jesus had nowhere to lay his head how many of you know that how many of you know that do you know Jesus had many places to lay his head but Jesus was not talking about a physical place where he would lay his head because the Christ is a body his head now needed a body to fit on and at the time when he was walking here in this world there was no place to what lay his head there was no place to rest his head he had completed the work of the head in the death and in the resurrection the Bible said and when they entered the tomb they realized that the shroud that covered his face had been folded but the garments that enrobed his body had been left apart why? the bride, the pregnant bride I remember in the revelation of Jesus the chapter 12 the Bible said and I saw a sign and I saw a sign so the Lord himself shall give you a sign and in Revelation 12 he said I saw a sign and I saw a woman she was a sand clad woman she had a diadem of 12 stars and under his feet was the moon the Bible says she was pregnant I'm telling you when Jesus walked this world he was not called Emmanuel for a reason because Emmanuel is not Jesus the head my God I don't know if I'm talking to a people here because Emmanuel is not Jesus the head I said you would enter into heaven and nobody is called Jesus they didn't get it and I'm saying it again I've been there several times and God is my witness and why would I lie about heaven when all of us will eventually end up there when we meet there and it is not so how shameful it will be he's not called Jesus in heaven because you don't know who he is because listen let me take it slowly we are just exploring Jesus we are exploring Jesus I'm not coming to tell you Jesus hey hey you know people Jesus was born of ancient Mary you know all those Sunday school stories already I'm not here to waste your time we are exploring Jesus to explore is not to look for what is on the surface exploration is to dig to find pearls to look for treasures exploring Jesus how somebody exploring Jesus so now watch here the son of man has nowhere to rest his head his head what is this Jesus the Bible says foxes have holes and birds of the earth and birds of the air they have nests but the son of man had nowhere to lay his head come say jesus didn't come into this world as jesus to save himself oh when they told him you physician save thyself that was not his mandate he didn't need salvation he didn't need to save himself they thought they had nailed him on the cross but beyond the nailing him on the cross jesus had gathered all his people behind him collectively laying his hands on their hands and whilst they were nailing the hands of jesus it was not jesus they were nailing they were leaning you and me the bible said we are crucified together praise god so when they say save yourself i'm asking you a question what is the meaning of the name jesus he is come to save his people his people he's come to save his people he's come to save his people from their sins jesus was not a sinner he didn't need to save himself so they were looking on the outward seeing a man that they felt at this point was this advantage they felt that ah he was depressed he was so uncomfortable he was on the cross thinking why in the world did i agree to this to go up this wooden staff to be humiliated to go up this wooden staff to be humiliated to go up this wooden stuff humiliated spat upon why in the world would i ever go through this shameful contradiction of myself but i have good news for you when he was on the cross he was not on the cross alone i together with you we were on the cross with this jesus he was not saving himself people he was saving us now when he walked this world he was a christ of god he was god flesh he was god incarnated he was god that had come in the likeness of men he was not god that had come as man for he was no man he was like men it was like something that's not mean it was exactly what it is jesus came in the likeness of men he had the authority he had his mandate he had his reason to do whatever he wanted to do remember that the word onoma means the character and the authority that the person carries so now watch here when jesus was walking this earth he was the hanging head looking for that body that he could align with he was the hanging head jesus the head you know what he was the institutional head if you can't know christ is a many-membered body the bible said just as the many just as the body many members even soul also is christ so there is christ the head being jesus the institutional jesus the organogram jesus the organic jesus this jesus the christ walk this world as a head only looking for an institution called the church the bible said i will build my ecclesia the bible said i will build my church i will build my parliament i will have the body of christ the body of christ people in authority i will have the body of people that i will sit in sanctum with that is what it means at the name my god i pray that people will wake up to the reality when the bible said at the name of jesus he was not talking about just one man called jesus he was talking about institutional jesus he was talking about an executive jesus he was talking about a body of christ in legislature so that their decisions will now rule the heavens my god rule the earth and rule the underworld at the name of jesus he's not saying that when you go to heaven you announce jesus can you imagine how they see it because they don't know what the church is they don't understand what the church is they don't understand the ecclesia understand the legislative body called jesus the christ where jesus the christ is the head so that at the name jesus what is the name the onoma the character the authority of jesus who are those who have the character and the authority of jesus those who say it no no those who sit in royal robes in the heavenly sanctum in their various ranks of authority passing judgment and ruling with him they are the ones whose words and character of jesus permeating their soul and their spirit and their inspiration would walk through realms and dimensions of glory would walk through the realms of heaven and heaven will not have that only dimensional reality for he will rule and the bible said he will utter his voice from the heavens he will sit in the heavens people and he would utter his voice and the word of god says when he speaks from the heavens it will go as far as the ends of the earth have you never read that before that the bible said that the lord himself shall utter his voice the lord shall utter his voice the lord shall utter his voice and his voice shall reach to the far ends of the earth the lord shall utter his voice when he will speak from the realms of heaven where he will be seated the lord also shall roll out of zion and utter his voice from jerusalem and the heavens and the earth shall shake that is to say heaven will be under his control and earth will be under his control that is what it means at the name of jesus and he's not talking about the person of jesus he's talking about the institution of jesus where jerusalem is the capital of the cosmic universe in that day when emmanuel god with us you didn't get it still because you are looking for a guy called jesus who is called emmanuel but emmanuel is a constitution of people god with us that the pinnacle of god is with me god with us who will call him jesus his father who will call him emmanuel is it the lord that gave the sign or the virgin that will produce the baby who is this virgin was a virgin only jesus no so paul says i want to present you as a just virgin who is the virgin who is the virgin the church oh you have heard that mary was a virgin yes that's true that there was a virgin but that's true but that was not what isaiah was saying i said i was not talking about virgin mary because if he was virgin mary there was jesus was here on earth he should be called emmanuel but never was he called emmanuel so the word of god talks about emmanuel as a being and emmanuel as a location the word of god says oh land emmanuel emmanuel is a land emmanuel is a place of authority emmanuel is like the white house can you read for me as i chapter eight the verse number eight i'll deal with you soon
Speaker 3and he shall pass through judah
Speaker 2he will pass through and he
Speaker 3shall flow and go over
Speaker 2and he will now overflow what does he mean he will overflow people he will overflow he himself he will flood everywhere with himself men will see that it was not only one jesus that came down from heaven to this earth they call it the rapture because he had to rapture himself he had to transfigure himself he had to show up not this time like men but actually as god with men and this god with men is not just one jesus when you begin to see who the virgin is and you begin to understand the pregnant virgin of revelation chapter 12. so now can we go eight verse eight slowly come on let's go and he
Speaker 3shall pass through judah he will
Speaker 2pass through jesus he
Speaker 3shall flow and go over he
Speaker 2will overflow and go over
Speaker 3he shall reach even to the
Speaker 2neck hold on hold on come here say come come come say there is the head it records the libra had us there is the neck jesus christ but he will flood himself from land even to the neck you didn't get this the institutional christ the institutional jesus how do you have an institutional jesus he's called christ when men and women will come in the character and the authority of Jesus. At the character and at the authority of Jesus. In the character and authority of Jesus. This is the reason why the devil said, Jesus we know. Paul we know. Not you, we don't know you. Why? Because you do not carry the character of Jesus. Neither do you carry the authority of Jesus. When you carry the authority and the character of Jesus. When the icon of Jesus. When the image of Jesus. We are going to deal with all of these things. So you understand what it means? The image of God. The likeness of God. We now begin to distinct. In which way are we his image? In which way are we his likeness? I am saying, I am going all the year to the end. Maybe with this message.
Speaker 3Jesus all the way.
Speaker 2He will pass through Judah. Somebody says, Is it Judah? In Jerusalem? No. Because you don't know Judah. What is Judah? In the first place, there is a difference between Hebrew, Israel, and Jerusalem. Hebrew. Hebrew. Israel and Jew. Who is a Hebrew? One who is an ancestor of Eber from Abraham. Because Abraham was not a Jew. Neither was he an Israelite. It was his grandson that produced 12 tribes for us to get Israel. So Abraham was neither a Jew nor an Israelite. Abraham was a Hebrew. He came from Eber. Now, who is an Israelite? An Israelite is one that came out of the loins of Jacob as a result of his high ranking when he battled with God and with man and prevailed. Now God changed his name from Jacob and called him Israel. So in Israel, we are looking at the 12th. We are looking at the 12th. We are looking at the 12th tribe. And those who partake in that prevailing work. Israel. Now, who is Jew? The word Jew is the same source from Judah. So what is Judah? Judah is simply an ally of David. This is the reason why you have opened Edom. Being a Jew. A Jew is not one that is only born of God. By birth. So the Levites were Jews. The Benjamites were Jews. Because they now sought association with the tribe of Judah from which King David sourced. So who is a Jew? One that has become an ally of David and his tribe. The Bible says Obed-Edom was a Gittite. He was not Jew originally from Judah but he became Jewish. This is the reason why you need to understand the tabernacle of David so that you can now understand Emmanuel. Because in the tabernacle of David we break tribes and our identity is by our being allies of King David. And we need to understand the tabernacle of David and the tabernacle of David. And what is this King David? The head Christ. The one who changes the form of worship. The one who comes to institutionalize the 24 courses. The one who cleanses the heavens with his blood because his sacrifice is better. Please get this. Now, once you understand that, Jesus, the head, the church glorified for your information. I want to ask you a question. Is Jesus coming for a glorious church? True or false? Can you be loud? I can't hear you. It's false. Jesus is not coming for a glorious church. Tell me what is he coming for? Say it into the microphone. I can't hear you all. Ask me, what is he coming for?
Speaker 3What is he coming for?
Speaker 2He's coming for a church he will make glorious to present to himself. Go and check your Bible. To present to himself a glorious church. He's not coming for a glorious church. Without the temperance of Jesus. In the millennium. You see, you need to understand eschatological order. So you know, the question is, you see some people, they just understand. That's what I want to tell you. Don't arrange eschatology from here we go to here, from here we go to here. Because if your eschatology is, okay, after the church age, that is such a rubbish. That is such a rubbish. Then we go to millennium. After millennium, then we go to New Jerusalem. That is just to help children. It is to help the mind of children. Because in the dispensing of God's work, it is from the heavens. It is not from the earth. It is like what you have done to in the beginning God created and you are thinking about time. But he was not talking about time. He was talking about his house. You need to be at camp meeting to understand these things. Because when I am done everywhere, I will come and finish with the camp meeting here. In the beginning does not mean time. For your information, it was not even at the beginning. It was in the beginning. And until you understand the Hebrew construct of what the beginning is, when the head of the house used his transformative fire by reason of the cross to change everything and declared himself as the beginning and the end. Because the beginning is a person. It is not a time. Yet without him, there is no reference to time. You can never know time until you reference the transformative fire, the sun of righteousness. You can never know time until it is referenced to Jesus. His death. His resurrection. His pre-incarnate self. His phanerosis of manifestation. And his ruling power in that day in the new Jerusalem. These are the references of time. Not the one you call here chromatic. No. That's not time. In the beginning, he was talking about a person because a person had declared himself I am the beginning and I am the end. So within him, God created. Without him, nothing was created. That was created. You don't get this. Within Christ, God created. This is the reason why there is an untranslated word in Genesis chapter 1 which is the Aleph Tav. In the beginning, Aleph Tav. Because Aleph is the beginning and Tav is the end. And it was within Aleph Tav that God now picked various letters and cast his spells of creation. Be at calm meeting. Because we'll be dealing with the power of spelling. Spell Tav. You will have to know how to pick various consonants, compound it and cast it as words. Then your spell is cast and it will manifest. If you don't have trained ears, you can't hear what I'm saying. And it was God that cast the first spell. HE PICKED himself and connected everything to himself called the connection to myself and said be and that is light when everything in the scattered domain before time have to find themselves connected in God there was no light everything was darkness what is darkness when all the particles that are supposed to coagulate in God are scattered until he steps on the cosmic table and say gather together and let's do something I pray that you're hearing what I'm saying this is casting spells that was carried out by God in the beginning so let's deal with Jesus exploring Jesus Jesus the head the body the son of man has no place to lay his head why because when you walk this earth he had no body he had only the institutional head he was looking for the institutional body and this institutional body was gotten when he carried a people and said I have a plan the plan is that I have come in the likeness of men I am not Emmanuel yet but God must become like man so that man will not take on the totality of the imago Dei of God his dominance his ability to subdue to Kabash to bring everything under his authority and his domain and this was a plan by the cross so that if the devil thought ah this was what he was up to he would not have crucified him because in the crucifixion was his own silent sin for the rest of the ages I pray that you get this from today at the name of Jesus he was talking about Emmanuel at the name of Jesus is Emmanuel what is at the name of Jesus at the character and authority of Jesus he will speak from Jerusalem and all Judah his allies the Jews who are seated with him in Jerusalem in the realm called Zion he will speak and all heaven and earth and under the earth will bow for he has sworn by himself in the book of Isaiah I think the chapter 48 that by me on me will swear like a house one oh I pray that you got that he swore by himself that by him I have sworn by myself the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness and shall not return that unto me every knee shall bow and every tongue shall swear swear to to me you don't get it this is the head I have sworn by myself that everybody they will do what shall swear like I have sworn to myself you see many think that they're swearing they're swearing his authority is the oath is the mandate that holds everything under it is a means by which nothing can be put in deception it is a means by which God cannot lie for I have found my holy ah servant and with my holy anointed oil have I anointed him for God has sworn to David that he cannot lie it takes swearing not to lie it takes a way to swear not to walk in deception so he swore by himself that everything will come and swear to himself why because when he swore by himself he was looking at the head when he took his own swearing so that in the end the president takes the oath of allegiance and the swearing by carrying the scepter and has his cabinet ministers also come together when he has sworn to himself and has the nation he has a cabinet group a legislative group a people of authority who would also come and swear to him according to his allegiance to the people so what the domain of the presidency when he had the scepter of allegiance and authority swore to the nation everybody is supposed to come and align in the character and in the authority of that swearing my God I pray that you can see this that you can see this when you know this all evil spirits will identify you oh why because the oath Jesus took you are taking the same oath how many of you have taken you see you have people who are working about claiming they are Christians but they have not taken the oaths of Jesus you are not in the character of Jesus neither are you working in the authority of Jesus Jesus has taken an oath have you taken the same

FAQs

Dr. Obed is a thought leader, apologist, author, and president of Christ Cosmopolitan Incorporated, a ministry focused on the fullness of Christ.

In Hebrew context, 'this is that' indicates a partial fulfillment with the same intensity, not an exact or complete fulfillment of a prophecy.

Acts describes pouring out 'of' the Spirit as a partial, earnest guarantee, while Joel prophesied pouring out 'the' Spirit fully upon all flesh.

Jesus, as the head, had no body—the church—to rest upon, symbolizing His search for an institutional body of believers.

A Hebrew is a descendant of Eber, an Israelite comes from Jacob's 12 tribes, and a Jew is an ally of David and his tribe, Judah.

Emmanuel refers to 'God with us' as a constitution of people or a place of authority, not just the person Jesus.
