The U.N. sounds the alarm over a potential escalation in the Iran war. And the Lindsay Clancy trial sees a racially charged twist. I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire executive editor John Bickley. It's Friday, September 11th, and this is Evening Wire. Americans gathered across the country today to mark 25 years since the September 11th attacks, with the largest ceremony taking place at Ground Zero in New York City. Family members of the 2,977 victims read each name aloud beginning at 8.30 a.m., observing moments of silence at the exact times the attacks unfolded, including 8.46 a.m. when American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower. Vice President J.D. Vance joined former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden at the ceremony, bringing the nation's top political leaders together to honor those killed in the attacks. President Donald Trump held a separate ceremony at the Pentagon, while communities around the country also held tributes to the victims and the first responders who died in the attacks or have since succumbed to 9-11-related illnesses. But the solemn ceremony was also marred by controversy after New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez were captured laughing during the reading of victims' names, even as grieving family members openly mourned their loved ones. The footage quickly drew backlash from critics, including Senator Ted Cruz and New York City Councilwoman Inna Vernikov, who condemned the pair's behavior as disrespectful to the victims and their families. The U.N. is sounding the alarm about a potential escalation in the Red Sea. This comes as hundreds of Iranian Revolutionary Guard officers are on the ground with the Houthis in Yemen. The Houthi rebels have seized the Red Sea port city of Mocha, and their hope is to close the nearby Bab al-Mandeb Strait. U.S. officials believe hundreds of Iranian officers are currently inside Yemen working alongside the Houthis to carry out that plan. Meanwhile, officials say around 100 U.S. military advisors are on the ground in Saudi Arabia to help them work to counter Iran's operations. In a racially charged twist in the Lindsay Clancy mistrial, the lone holdout on the not guilty decision turns out to have been the only Black person on the jury. Paula Devlin, one of the more outspoken of the jurors, told CBS host Gayle King that the ages of the jurors ranged from 22 to 75, to 70 years old, with, quote, one person of color. When she revealed that the holdout was a Black man, King appeared visibly shaken. One person of color was a person of color, a woman or a man? A man. A man. Is a holdout juror a person, a Black man? Yes. A Black man is a holdout juror? Yes. Well, I have to sit with that for just a second. The jurors who have been making the media rounds have described the holdout as arrogant for his refusal to cave, to the other 11 jurors. Ahead of today's 25th anniversary of 9-11, a wealthy Virginia school district located just miles from the Pentagon told its teachers not to associate the attacks with Islam or Muslims. The guidance from Fairfax County Public Schools told teachers to be ready to combat, quote, anti-Muslim bias in the classroom and to not connect the attacks with any religious motivation. The guidance obtained by Fox News reads, quote, Consider how you might prepare to stand against anti-Muslim racism, in your classroom. Consider the classroom conditions that you can build to create safe spaces for Muslim and Middle Eastern students. Georgetown University is getting some pushback for giving pro-Iran apologists the stage in a new lecture series. The university's Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim Christian Understanding is hosting a four-part Iran lecture series this fall featuring four speakers who will address authoritarianism in Iran, the country's nuclear program, its grand strategy, and U.S. Iran relations, as well as the struggle for democracy. The entire lineup has drawn criticism over the speakers' ties to the National Iranian American Council, an Iranian-American advocacy organization that has repeatedly pushed for diplomacy and accommodation with Tehran and has opposed efforts to increase pressure on the Islamic regime. Laden Bazargan, founder of Alliance Against Islamic Regime of Iran Apologists, or IRIA, told Daily Wire, quote, when they repeatedly amplify one narrow set of voices while excluding Iranians who, in a letter to Georgetown's president, IRIA, stresses that it's not calling for the speakers to be silenced. Instead, the group argues that Georgetown has a responsibility to have a robust debate. Here's That's So Criminal host Lyndon Blake. The two left-wing congresswomen are peddling claims of a supposed modern-day lynching epidemic, but they're ignoring official police reports and state autopsies that show that most of the tragic deaths were actually suicides. Pressley kick-started the panic on social media, writing that, quote, AOC quickly jumped on the bandwagon, writing, There's just one glaring problem. Law enforcement, medical examiners, and independent tracking data say it's simply not true. As pointed out in community notes on X, most high-profile cases of Black people found hanging in 2025 and 2026 were ruled suicides by medical examiners and police, with no evidence of foul play. Framing this as modern-day lynchings is not supported by official findings. A Massachusetts judge accused of helping an illegal immigrant evade ICE has been publicly reprimanded by the state's highest court, despite federal obstruction charges against her being dropped in 2022. Judge Shelly Joseph faced federal charges after prosecutors accused her of working with an attorney and court officer to help Jose Medina Perez leave a courthouse through the back door during a 2018 drug case. The federal charges were ultimately dismissed after Joseph agreed to refer herself to the state's judicial conduct agency which separately investigated her actions. The proceeding has now concluded with a public reprimand after a hearing officer found Joseph created quote, the appearance of impropriety and failed to comply with the law. Joseph's attorney, however, argued that the case has been distorted and said the hearing officer's findings showed the federal prosecution was quote, baseless. Comedian Chris Rock admits that President Trump got one thing right. Entertainment reporter Amanda Harding has more. Chris Rock doesn't consider himself a Trump supporter, but he does consider himself a Trump supporter. But there is one opinion the president holds that he believes is correct. news. The entertainer discussed his thoughts in a new interview with Variety. I'm not a fan, he said, but it's weird when somebody gets one thing right and the one thing almost clears them of all their other sins. The news is fake. He got that right. Curtis Houck, managing editor of the Newsbusters, notes that Rock is picking up on what's so obvious to others and what will be part of Trump's legacy. The widespread awareness of both media bias and press ineptitude will be one of President Trump's longest lasting legacies, he said. Chris Rock certainly seems to be on the president's wavelength. We have an update in the story of the Amazon cargo plane crash in Miami. Definitive causes of the crash were not readily apparent in the immediate aftermath, but new cockpit data released by the NTSB tells a more complete story. Recordings of the pilot's voices as well as instrument data show that the two pilots ignored at least 11 different scenarios that would normally require a mandatory go around, as in abort landing procedures. 767 pilots are normally required to be fully configured for landing at 1,000 feet of altitude. Flight data shows the pilots were not fully configured until around 50 feet off the ground and were around 30 knots too fast at the time of touchdown. When the plane eventually did touch down thousands of feet farther down the runway than intended, data shows that the controlling pilot did briefly attempt a go around, jamming on the thrusters, but immediately changed his mind and continued to attempt a landing, resulting in the catastrophic crash, killing five individuals on the ground. And Australia hosted its first ever NFL game, last night, and kicked it off with a land acknowledgement. Clay Travis, whose new outlet, Sport & State, is now partnered with The Daily Wire, by the way, highlighted a clip of the moment, noting that, quote, Australia also has a national sorry day where the country apologizes to the Aborigines every year.
