Meanwhile, Russia’s continued attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure contradict President Trump’s announced ceasefire, raising concerns about its effectiveness. Iran-linked Houthis launched a deadly strike on a Saudi airport, killing over a dozen people and prompting U.S. condemnation and Saudi operational changes. Pope Leo is scheduled to undergo lung surgery, with Vatican officials noting he remains active despite the procedure. In a separate incident, a Minnesota teen accused of a school shooting was released on bond, drawing backlash from the White House. The feds raid Ilhan Omar's home, Pope Leo shares a serious health update,
and Trump's new press secretary prepares to take the podium. I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire
executive editor John Bickley. It's Monday, October 12th, and this is Evening Wire.
Federal agents searched Ilhan Omar's house this morning. Immigration reporter Ginny Ter has the
story. A Justice Department spokesman confirmed that Homeland Security Investigations executed
a judicially authorized search warrant on the home of Ilhan Omar. The home of Ilhan Omar was
an ongoing criminal investigation. Multiple outlets are reporting that the search stems
from a criminal fraud investigation into Omar's immigration paperwork, which was filled out by
her late father after her family immigrated from Somalia in 1995. Last month, border czar Tom
Homan confirmed Homeland Security was investigating Omar amid allegations that she married her brother
in 2009 to commit immigration fraud. Omar responded in a statement on X calling the raid an attempt to
target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. She added, I will not be silenced.
Trump announced an energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine,
but how well is it sticking? Foreign affairs reporter Cassia Kiva has the latest.
Russia struck Ukrainian energy infrastructure overnight and into Monday,
despite President Trump's announcement that Moscow and Kiev had agreed to halt attacks on
energy sites. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that strikes hit at least six targets,
including a power plant in Kharkiv, a gas production facility, and a civilian gas station.
Zelensky said Ukraine has refrained from striking Russian energy infrastructure since Trump announced
the ceasefire on Sunday, calling it a potential first step toward ending the war. But the Kremlin
has not confirmed the agreement, with spokesperson Dmitry Peskov saying Monday that, quote,
contacts are ongoing. Iran-backed Houthis attacked Saudi Arabia's King Khalid International Airport
in Riyadh again on Sunday. The Houthis have hit the airport four times in the past week,
five days, and killed over a dozen people, including a U.S. citizen. Hundreds of others
have been wounded. President Trump has condemned the attacks, but so far declined to say whether
or not the U.S. will intervene. Here's the president over the weekend.
Look, the Saudis are good fighters, but I think the attack was a terrible thing.
Saudi Arabia has closed down the airport and flights in and out of the kingdom have been
redirected. Meanwhile, Saudi forces have been working with the Yemeni government to take back
control of Yemen's Red Sea coast, which the Houthis have used to target Saudi oil tankers.
Pope Leo is going into surgery this week to remove a nodule from his lung. He announced
this planned surgery during a blessing at St. Peter's Square. Vatican officials say the nodule
was discovered during routine tests, and the Pope is expecting a week-long recovery.
Pope Leo is remaining active in the lead-up to his surgery, presiding over six audiences today alone,
including one with the head of U.S. military chaplains.
Texas Senate candidate James Tallarico went multiple weeks without a public appearance,
leaving many wondering, where did he go? Contributor Tim Pearce is here with more.
Democratic Senate candidate James Tallarico is back on the trail in Texas after a nearly
two-week absence in the campaign's final days.
Tallarico told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth that he was at home with a bad case of the flu.
It wasn't anything worse than a nasty case of the flu. And so I was in bed and, you know,
drinking lots of liquids. Unfortunately, the campaign made me work from home, so I didn't
even get full days off. But, you know, didn't want to be out on the trail and didn't want to
get anyone else sick. Tallarico's sudden disappearance prompted some rumors that he had suffered a mental
breakdown in the middle of the campaign. His campaign and the facility where he was said to have received treatment denied the
allegations. He was asked about those reports over the weekend.
That's not true. I just had the flu and I feel much better. But it's a good reminder that you can't
believe everything you read on the Internet.

A Minnesota teenager accused of shooting two other teens at a high
school homecoming game was back on the street two days after his arrest.
Morning Wire associate producer Brooke Morgato has more.
The White House is slamming a Minnesota judge after a teen accused of opening fire at a high
school homecoming game walked out of a jail on a no-conditions bond. 18-year-old Adam Abda-Hakim
Adam faces multiple felony assault charges for his role in a shooting during a parking lot brawl
at a local high school earlier this month. Adam was arrested Thursday and posted a $100,000 bond
on Saturday. Adam was arrested on Thursday and posted a $100,000 bond on Saturday. The White House said in a post on X that
the shooting is tied to rival Somali gangs and blamed the, quote, radical left judge for his
release. Adam is set for his first court appearance Monday afternoon, where prosecutors may push for
tighter release conditions. The UK's prime minister has come out with a new statement on the attempted
terror attack at a U.S. airbase. Andy Burnham says Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps
almost certainly directed the suspected terror plot, which targeted a U.S.-run airbase in England.
Burnham said,
quote,
we will not tolerate these threats on our soil, and vowed to crack down on Iran's use of criminal
networks and target their funding. Thirty-five countries, including the U.S., condemned Tehran's
hostile activities in a joint statement. Seven men have been arrested but let go on bail,
and none have been charged yet. For its part, Iran denies involvement.
Anti-ICE agitators attacked and threatened law enforcement in Salem, Oregon over the weekend.
Video posted by the Post Millennial showed a man with a bat knock off the
passenger side mirror of one ICE van. In another clip, several drivers appeared to use their cars
to try to block an ICE vehicle from leaving a parking lot. The ICE officer had to use his vehicle
to push through the others while protesters screamed for ICE to get out. Agents were forced
to deploy tear gas to push the crowd back. Here's what some of that sounded like.
It doesn't f*** up. It doesn't f*** you. It doesn't f*** up.
Salem officials came down on ICE after the clash. Salem Mayor-elect Vanessa Nordyke accused ICE
officers of driving recklessly and said the federal presence has undermined the city's
ability to enforce its own laws. President Trump's new press secretary is set to take the podium for
the first time this week. Trump confirmed in a Sunday post on Truth Social that Katie Zachariah
will start the job on Monday.
And host her first press conference tomorrow at 9.30 a.m. Eastern. Zachariah, a 41-year-old mother
of four, is leaving her post as senior communications advisor at Trump Media and
Technology Group to become the 37th White House press secretary. After her selection was announced,
she called the role, quote, the honor of a lifetime and said she looked forward to working
with the White House press corps. Trump told reporters he expects she'll be terrific.
And finally, and possibly the most important news of the day, all eyes are on Northern California's
campaign for a new world record, including one that hopes to set a new world record. The current
record comes from England, weighing in at a knee-buckling 2,857 pounds.
What?
Horticulture teacher Travis Ginger out of Minnesota, however, thinks he has it beat.
Travis and his father have reportedly driven over 30 hours with their giant in tow, hoping to take
home the grand prize, which could be nearly $60,000. As a pumpkin grower myself, I'm on the
edge of my seat, although mine are not in the same position.
