Ilano Marce says she's moving out of DC Michigan Senate candidates square off on the debate stage, and a Virginia lawmaker is involved in a drug bust. I'm daily wire executive editor John Bickley with Georgia Howe. It's Thursday, October 22nd. This is evening wire. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar sat down for an interview on MS now amid the federal investigation into her immigration background. But some of her answers invited more suspicion than clarity about the allegations against her. Here's the moment Chris Hayes asked Omar about her controversial marriage to a man alleged to be her brother. He was not, you're not related to him at all. Not that. That's, there's just a weird kernel of truth that's through some game. Not through my knowledge. That answer was panned online and even got a comment from President Trump. They asked her if she was married to her brother. Do you know what she said? She said not to my knowledge. Not to my knowledge. It's not a good answer. That's an answer that a lot of us assume. Republican Mike Rogers and Democrat Abdul-El-Sayed took part in a heated debate last night in the final stretch of the campaign for Michigan's open U.S. Senate seat. The debate covered issues from economics to health care, but the fireworks really came when Rogers pressed El-Sayed over his ties to Islamic extremist groups, particularly the Muslim Brotherhood. Here was some of that. So being got off by the Muslim Brotherhood, having donors to his campaign from Hamas, that's support, Hezbollah, is not a problem. If you are going to go to the United States Senate, we need to know, are you for America or are you for these terrorist groups overseas? You can grin and you can smile and you can talk real pretty. But I'm going to tell you what, that is a risk to our national security. As a matter of fact, the New York Times gave him an option to condemn his comments. >> Time. Thank you, Congressman Rogers. We're going to have to. We're going to have to do this. You can get other talks. >> No comment. >> El-Sayed accused Rogers of religious profiling. He keeps raising this question about this association with an organization I've never been a part of, because my mom who's a nurse in Missouri, it doesn't make any sense. And it's actually really quite beneath you, Mike. It's really quite beneath you. >> It's not. >> To call in any question, my loyalty to the Constitution, I'm talking. I'm talking. I'm talking. >> Oh. >> Excuse me. Yeah, go ahead. >> Can I have a few more seconds? >> Yes, go ahead. >> Thank you. To bring in a question, my commitment to the Constitution is really beneath you. I am proud of America, I'm proud to be an American, I'm proud of our Constitution that guarantees all of us the right to pray, as we choose to pray. And the question that you would ask that, I think is actually really quite shameful as somebody who's actually served under that Constitution. It is shame. >> Jameson Rogers, you now have 30 seconds for a rebuttal. >> You know where the uniform in the United States, proudly, as my son did, my wife served, my brother served, my father served, so you could pray anyway you want. And I know you want to make this about you being a victim. This is about an ideology, an ideology that's banned in five Muslim countries. An ideology that's banned in another six different countries, an ideology that is very concerning to law enforcement in the United States because they use it for funding overseas operations. >> Congressman Ross. >> That's the difference. >> A newly released documentary features three men who allege they were paid for sexual encounters with the late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, including one who claims he was 17 at the time. The 30-minute film released by the young Turks presents the men's account of alleged encounters with Graham who served on the Senate for more than two decades. The allegations have not been independently verified in the provided report and does not include a response from Graham's representatives. Graham died before the documentary's release and was a prominent conservative lawmaker who opposed same-sex marriage and other LGBTQ-related measures during his political career. Virginia Democrat Powerbroker Louise Lucas has been arrested by federal authorities, contributor Tim Pierce as more. >> The 82-year-old state senator was indicted on five counts, racketeering conspiracy, conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute marijuana, conspiracy to laundromoney, conspiracy to commit honest services fraud, and maintaining a drug-involved premises. Lucas, who has been one of the most prominent and powerful figures among Virginia Democrats for decades, was the subject of an FBI raid earlier this year culminating in her arrest this morning. Six others, including Lucas's daughters and grandson, were also charged and arrested in connection with the alleged scheme. U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche said at a press conference Thursday morning, the Department of Justice intends to prove that Senator Lucas violated the trust of the people of Portsmouth and Chesapeake, Virginia and of her state Senate colleagues. FBI Director Cash Patel said Lucas accumulated nearly $5 million in ill-gotten gains through her criminal enterprise. A Democratic candidate for the Westchester County Legislature was detained and later released after a physical altercation with the mother of her Republican opponent during a campaign forum in Yonkers. Kisha Skipper, who is challenging incumbent James Nolan, says she was not arrested and was released pending the outcome of an investigation. According to local outlet Black Westchester, the confrontation began after Skipper was pressed about alleged questionable campaign donations and went to the bathroom, where Nolan's mother, Donna, and another woman allegedly followed her. An argument escalated into a physical fight, though the available reports do not establish who initiated the violence. Donna Nolan was taken to a hospital by ambulance while Skipper later posted a video from an emergency room wearing an arm sling. Police did not immediately respond to her request for comment. Judge Chief Legal Officer CJ Mahoney responded, saying, quote, "This ruling and the attorney general's approach to this enforcement make it all but impossible to do business in the state
New Mexico, Meta has stated that they will appeal the ruling. A new poll finds most French people see a link between immigration and the violent unrest gripping their country. France has reported its first human case of the Shaman de virus, a livestock disease, after an infected man in his 60s died earlier this month. Authorities suspect he contracted the virus from a biting midge in Eastern France where it had circulated among animals this spring and summer. The World Health Organization says the case appears isolated and is unlikely to lead to wider spread. And French officials say they've identified no risk to the general public. The patient had a serious underlying illness that made him more vulnerable to the infection. Shaman de primarily affects cattle but has also been detected in other livestock across Europe, including horses, sheep and goats. A Massachusetts judge has ruled that the holdout juror in the case of Lindsey Clancy, Michael Deserunville, cannot be probed by the defense, home page editor Jordan Schroeder has more. Clancy's defense team, led by Attorney Kevin Reddington, had sought to question Deserunville as well as cease his cell phone for evidence, alleging impropriety in his election in conduct as a juror. Judge William Sullivan has now denied that request, writing, "because post-trial information potentially affecting juror dose impartiality cannot be used to attack the determination that a mistrial was manifestly necessary. Clancy is not entitled to an evidentiary hearing on that issue." Falling her highly publicized mistrial, Clancy will return to court on November 2. And an Irish government-backed consent campaign is drawing major backlash for a PSA ad, warning children they don't have to hug their grandparents, associate producer Garrett Fantime as a story. The 25-second ad from We Consent, a project of the Dublin Rape Crisis Center, shows one grandchild happily embracing visiting grandparents before another appears uncomfortable with a hug. A voiceover then says this, "Not everyone wants a hug, even from the people who love them." Dublin City councillor Gavin Pepper took to social media following the spot, saying children should learn about boundaries, but argued that a hug from a loving grandparents should not be portrayed as, quote, "strange or suspicious." Many online have pointed out that attaching the idea of consent, which has a sexual connotation to the situation depicted is entirely inappropriate. The ad also features a somewhat strange casting.
