Ahead of the one year anniversary of his assassination, which lands today. President Trump is promising every American adult a $5,000 check if Republicans keep control of Congress following the midterm elections in November. Speaking Wednesday at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, the president said the payment would be called the Trump dividend, with the only condition being that recipients have to spend the money in the U.S. The president did not offer many details on how we'd cover the $1.2 trillion price tag, or get it through a Republican-led Congress. Vice President J.D. Vance defended the plan on Fox News, pointing to revenue from the administration's high tariffs as potentially offsetting the payment. Democrat Senator John Fetterman shocked the nation by making a surprise video appearance at the Republican National Convention last night. The Democrat appeared to introduce and endorse fellow Pennsylvania Senator Dave McCormick. For going party orthodoxy, Fetterman delivered a fiery unity first endorsement for his Republican counterpart. "Yes, I'm a Democrat, why am I here talking to you today? Because, well, I'm a common sense Democrat, I'm always going to stand with America, I'm always going to reject the extremes in socialism, Dave McCormick is the kind of Senator that gets that you're done, and he's going to fight for Pennsylvania, I'm proud to count him as my friend. Fetterman has faced stiff backlash from his party at recent years for cooperating across party lines, despite voting with Democrats nearly 90% of the time. The surrogate mother who refused a California couple's demand to abort a baby after he was diagnosed with a heart defect, is taking her extraordinary custody battle to the U.S. Supreme Court, cultural reporter Megan Basham as the latest. McKenna West, an Alaska nurse who carried and gave birth to the baby in Texas, filed an emergency application yesterday asking the Supreme Court to block a California ruling recognizing the biological parents, Nashine Gilkar and Omar Ahmed, as the child's legal parents. West's attorneys have asked Justice Elena Kagan, who oversees urgent matters on the night circuit, to block the California ruling temporarily. Now, Kagan has not yet ruled on the request. In most cases, the court's emergency docket justices will refer the matter to the full court for review, in order in West's favor would not resolve the custody issue, but rather hit the brakes on the California ruling and bring the surrogate mother back into the fold as the infant child fights for his life. This remarkable custody battle centers around a bitter dispute over abortion, surrogacy, and parental rights. West says the California ruling has left her unable to advocate for the medically fragile newborn whom she calls Gabriel, his genetic parents named him Rumi. The filing reads, quote, "Without a stay, the commissioning parties may halt life-saving care for baby Gabriel before this court can even consider a petition of surgery or bury, much less rule on the merits." When asked about the matter, West told live-action, quote, "Nothing was scarier than questioning my own soul and knowing what would happen to this baby boy. There's nothing they could try to come after me for that would be worth his life." Texas Democratic Senate nominee James Talleriko is attempting to walk back his support of trans ideology in a last-digit attempt to appeal to Texas voters in a Wednesday Fox News interview Talleriko said this, he then disavowed his 2021 claim that there are six biological sexes. Texas Attorney General Andrew Public and Senate nominee Ken Paxden pointed out that, as a member of the state house, Talleriko voted against two bills that would have barred men from girls and women's sports. The Supreme Court blocked a federal judge's decision ordering Missouri officials to use Republican-friendly maps for the midterm elections. Justice Brett Kavanaugh granted a request from a left-wing group to block a lower court ruling, directing Missouri to use election maps from the state's 2026 primary instead of the older 2022 maps favored by Democrats. The block will remain as the eighth Circuit Court of Appeals considers the case. The order is the latest update in a dramatic back and forth battle over which districts Missouri voters will see on the ballot in November. This passed by the state legislature last year and used during the 2026 primary elections were expected to yield a 7-1 Republican House seat advantage. The old maps approved in 2022 led to a 6-2 GOP advantage, adding further complexity to the case, the deadline for Missouri to finalize the ballot was September 8. The city of Denver, along with civil rights groups, are suing the Trump administration to block armed ICE agents from serving warrants at polling places, arguing their presence could discourage people from voting. The lawsuit cites several alleged incidents, including armed agents detaining a person at a San Antonio polling site and ICE questioning an election worker in Syracuse. Homeland Security Secretary Mark Wayne Mullin says ICE is not patrolling polling places and would only be there in response to a threat or to serve a warrant. The administration says there is no plan to deploy agents to polling sites, but is not ruled out their presence. All agents arrested and alleged election fraud ringleader this morning in California. Reporter Zach Jule has a story. James Brass of San Bernardino, California is accused of paying homeless individuals on Skid Row to sign ballot measure petitions using fraudulent identities. Brass was allegedly paid more than $40,000 from an election petition management company for his efforts. The rest took place early this morning when Brass surprised surveilling authorities by leaving his home around 4.45 a.m. he was then arrested at a local gas station. Brass along with two co-conspirators are now charged with conspiracy to commit identity fraud and furtherance of a state felony. A Nigerian chief, Nathan Ogbetue, is drawing eyes after building a palace in Nigeria allegedly with US taxpayer dollars. Associate producer Brooke Morgato has the story. In a viral video showing Ogbetue writing in his lavish motorcade, a videographer can be heard calling him, quote, "half-man, half-god," for building the palace, quote, "free of charge" for the Abatee community. This one viral because Ogbetue is not just a chief in Nigeria, but the CEO of a California Home Health Company that collected more than $34 million from Medicaid, meaning US taxpayers in just three years. Payments made to the company surged from less than $2 million between $20 million. 2018 and 2021 to roughly $17 million in 2023. When Ogba 2A was crowned chief of the small farming town, he swore, quote, "To place the interests of a botete first in all private and official transactions. So help me God." Ogba 2A reportedly paid for a palace, roads, and renovations to the town civic center, which hosts multiple painted murals of the Ogba 2A family and sits beside two golden statues of himself and his wife. The company denies wrongdoing, while experts who reviewed its billing noted major red flags, with one calling the operation "potentially fraudulent." And the pin dragon cycle Rise of the Merlin has erased up the charts on Prime Video, landing at #1 in fantasy #3 in drama and #4 among all TV series during its first week on the platform.
