Brazil re-elects Lula De Silva as president, violent crime drops 25% across the U.S. and Microsoft announces its plans to pay more than 60,000 employees to leave their positions. I'm DailyWire, executive editor John Bickley-George's off today. It's Monday, October 26. This is EveningWire. Brazil's socialist president Lula De Silva won re-election to a fourth-term in office on Sunday that was opponent isn't conceding, contributor Tim Purist as the latest. Silva's unexpected victory came three weeks after he lost in the first round of voting to his right-wing rival, Flavio Bolsonaro, the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro. Yesterday's was the first election since Brazil's military dictatorship ended over 40 years ago, in which the winner of the first round of voting did not win the presidency. For his part, Bolsonaro has not conceded. The election was thrown into chaos after a Supreme Court judge issued a last-minute decision for polls to stay open to additional hours after their schedule closed. That decision was issued by a judge who previously served as Silva's personal attorney and will likely be the basis for future legal challenges by Bolsonaro and his supporters. Venezuela's opposition leader, Maria Carina Machado, has returned home after more than 10 months in exile, drawing crowds of supporters as she traveled to Caracas. Machado fled Venezuela to accept the Nobel Peace Prize in Norway after being barred from challenging then-president Nicholas Maduro in the 2024 election. Maduro was captured by U.S. forces in January, and his former deputy, Delce Rodriguez, took over as interim president. Machado's return follows U.S.-backed reconciliation talks that Secretary of State Marco Rubio says have helped free hundreds of political prisoners and bring opposition figures home from exile. Machado has said she would run for president again, but it remains unclear what she plans to do next, or when Venezuela might hold a new vote. Violent crime in the U.S. fell by a record 25 percent last year. Reporter's Actual has more. Aggravated assaults dropped 31 percent, robberies fell 27 percent, and reported rapes and sexual assaults declined from about 138,000 to 75,000. Property crime also fell 19 percent, though simple assaults rose slightly. The figures show a sharper decline than the FBI's law enforcement data, which tracks crimes reported to police, rather than incidents disclosed in household surveys. The Justice Department credited President Trump's make America safe again agenda, though the survey faced a major limitation. A government shutdown halted interviews for part of October and November, and its household response rate fell to 53 percent. AI Giant Anthropic is officially filing for an IPO that could break records. Tyson Langhofer from Alliance Defending Freedom has more. Anthropic, the creator of the clot chatbot, filed with the SEC today to list on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, an offering that could value it at as much as $2 trillion. That would eclipse SpaceX's 1.75 trillion IPO in May of this year. The filing also revealed staggering costs with anthropic reporting 80 billion in losses in the first half of this year against just $16 billion in revenue. Meanwhile, Microsoft is offering voluntary buyouts to roughly 60,000 employees, more than a quarter of its workforce. The company is looking to contain costs and fund its own massive AI investments projected at $175 billion this year. Anthropics IPO also comes just weeks after CEO Dario Amadi called for an industry-wide slowdown in frontier AI development with the filing warning investors that its most advanced models have demonstrated unexpected self-preservation behaviors, including resisting shutdown attempts and behavior resembling blackmail. Meanwhile, Elon Musk's SpaceX has secured $40 billion in financing for new AI chips. After the announcement, Musk highlighted that tech giants are facing credit challenges and are struggling to secure funding for projects without immediate revenue outside of AI. Musk credits the new deal to the revenue stream SpaceX receives from the Starlink satellite system, as well as its rocket launch business. Months after SpaceX's record-breaking IPO, the company has reported a 161% increase in revenue from last year. Here's an interesting health story. There's been growing research around weight cycling, the familiar pattern of losing weight, gaining it back, then starting the whole process over again, or fluctuating as many refer to it. And frankly, you don't need a study to tell you how frustrating that can be. You clean out the pantry, you swear off desert, you lose some weight. Life gets busy, and suddenly you're right back where you started. So the goal isn't just about losing weight, it's about building your routine that you can actually stick with. That's where our sponsor, Lean, from Brickhouse Nutrition, comes in. Lean is a doctor-developed non-prescription weight loss supplement designed to support weight loss in three ways, helping convert stored fat into energy, helping maintain healthy blood sugar, and helping manage appetite and that constant food noise that can make staying on track so difficult. We have several people here at the Daily Wire who take it and swear by it. The best part, there's no complicated routine, it's just another tool to add to a healthy diet and exercise plan. And we've got you, with 20% off for morning wire listeners, go to takelean.com and use code wire for 20% off. That's code wire at takelean.com. These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. The Trump administration has approved a new first-of-its-kind aircraft for passenger travel, associate producer Whiteharms as the story. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said Sunday that the FAA has handed Vermont-based beta technologies, equal first-of-its-kind certification, that clears the company to fly potential customers in its electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, also known as an EVEDLE. An EVEDLE takes off and lands straight up and down like a helicopter, but runs on battery-powered electric motors, rather than traditional gas-powered engines. After takeoff, the aircraft can switch from rotors to wing-based flight. The FAA issued beta a special airworthiness certificate for market surveys for its new aircraft. The first-of-such authorization ever given to a vehicle of this type. The approval only allows beta to take airline and operator buyers for test rides, but if the test period goes well, the electric aircraft could hit market soon. Texas Democrat James Talleriko's past comments are making the rounds on social media with the election just days away. Talleriko has repeatedly combined his faith and politics in ways that have made many Christians uncomfortable, but as clips have shown he's been making similar statements for years. He was Talleriko back in 2023. What would Jesus do if he visited the Texas legislature? I think he would tell us, "Blessed are the trans children." The Democrat candidate made the comment at a rally while speaking in support of, among other issues, "sex change procedures for minors." Up in Ohio, GOP Gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy is defending a controversial ad from his campaign that features his opponent's mother. reporter Drew Burke-Mire has led us. One of Ramaswamy's latest ads features the estranged mother of Democrat Amy Akden. Ramaswamy has drawn bipartisan criticism for the ad because of Akden's allegations of abuse at the hands of her stepfather. But Ramaswamy says that the ad is fair given the attacks against his own mother. Here he was on Fox News this morning.
attack me, they've defamed my mother to media silence, it's unbelievable. And yet at the same time, they'll trot out anything to attack a Republican. We're standing for truth. And so the irony is they're lying about an ad that was about her lying. The fact of the matter is I am running against somebody who is crazy, unstable and dishonest. And even more importantly, they represent crazy and unstable and dishonest ideas. This is a fork in the road for the future of Ohio. And if they actually believe these run fair attacks, you know what my opponent would be doing? She would be agreeing to show up on a debate with me. As I agreed to and CNN and NBC, she is hiding because they want to lie and then deflect accountability. We're not going to let them get away with that. >> Airbnb just announced a big rule change and some hosts aren't happy about it. Lifestyle reporter Lauren Barras, the story. If you've ever stayed in an Airbnb, you might have been surprised at checkout to discover you unknowingly signed up for a literal laundry list of chores. Stories of spread online of host demanding that guests clean sheets, take out trash, wash dishes, and even mop floors. All of this, sometimes, in addition to paying a cleaning fee. Now Airbnb says no more. The platform has announced that hosts can no longer impose chores requiring significant effort or time. We've also done away with cleaning-related fines, as well as prohibiting hosts from entering into agreements with guests beyond the standard platform agreement. Hosts can still make reasonable requests, like asking that dishes we put in the sink, but can't require that they be cleaned. While customers rejoiced, some hosts expressed their dissent online, like one redder, who said they would now be removing all the dishes from their property's kitchen to avoid having to clean. Others vowed to stop renting on the platform altogether. For B&B's new rules, we'll go into effect on November 20th. And the most pressing news of the day, Loch Ness Monster's sightings have more than doubled this year, with an official registry accepting a 15 report so far in 2026, compared with just six for all of last year. The latest accepted sighting came in August when a German tourist reported seeing a roughly 20-foot-long creature surfacing about a thousand feet offshore before disappearing. Other visitors described a dark mound rising above the water in a large, eel-like animal swimming against the current. But long-time nessie investigator Adrian Shine cautions that the sightings may not be what they seem, arguing that the monster is typically spotted in calm water. Scientists have also found eel DNA throughout Loch Ness, raising the possibility that unusually large eels could explain some reports. The legendary creature continues to draw a tourist to Scotland, generating an estimated $55 million annually for the region. Alright, those of your drive home updates to learn more about these stories go to dailywire.com in a case you missed it earlier today. We covered some major stories, including Obama vs. Trump on the Camping Trail, Musk and Melania playing crucial roles in Ukraine, and Riot spreading to Barcelona, Albania, and into Rome's Colosseum. Thanks for tuning in. We'll be back tomorrow morning with another full edition of Morning Wire.
