Without going to the justice of the peace of having a marriage certificate. - You can still cover those things. - You can also rent a house from somebody for eternity and say, I'm never leaving. And I think it's a little different. If you own the house and have a little more stake in the game. - I say, I think the house can be on or rented in both scenarios. Like for example, I could put myself out. Dog, when my will is done, my girl, we're not married, but my girl will get every single thing that I have. And it'll be allocated according to the will. When you are married, now the state assigns how your assets are broken up if you don't have a will. So that's the only difference. Now the state says, yo, your shit goes here, here, here, and here, based on the laws of the state of New Jersey or New York wherever you reside. This is what happens. The marriage don't dictate that. You and the lady didn't dictate that. The widow, Malcolm Jamal's wife, was saying, is saying, look, we had a prenup. And he never lived up to the terms of the prenup. And because he never lived up to the terms of the prenup, I need money from the estate. What terms did he-- One of them was the big one was the insurance policy. He never had an insurance policy and pulled up the rest. He never had an insurance policy with her as a sole recipient or beneficiary of at least $1 million. OK. Which-- In the prenup that he was supposed to carry a life insurance policy, her as sole beneficiary, 1 mil. Yep, 1 million dollar life insurance policy naming her as sole beneficiary. And a reciprocal policy on her life. To pay her $5,000 a month as his chief of staff, and to give her $16,000 a year on their anniversary. And also to fund a tax-free retirement account for her and maintain college funds for their children. So those were the things he was obligated to do. So I'm watching people on the internet respond to this in a lot of different ways. Some people think it's important to sue the estate. They make it seem like it's a money grab. I'm like, well, if they had these prenupial conditions, it was for her financial security. And part of why we established prenups is for financial security, $5,000 a month, $16,000 a year on their anniversary. I didn't even know people did that in prenups. So I'm not saying it's wrong. But $16,000 a year on their anniversaries, funding the retirement account for children, college funds, all of a sudden makes sense. And the life insurance policy, I think, is just a responsible thing to do for anybody. Malcolm was making $680,000 a year reportedly at the time of his death. And so just to get you, I'm just adding that because that's been reported. But also I think that gets some context for what he may have been able to pay and also what their lifestyle was.
